we have some technical difficulties but our fabulous derek kinsey has got us up on web apps i believe so bear with us as we make sure that everybody can hear us yes uh before we call for the pledge of allegiance i'd like to read some new language that we have on our agenda and also mention that our co-worker mr schwetzenberg is out with comey in accordance with the los angeles county department of public health each person attending a redondo beach unified school district board meeting is required to wear a face mask that properly covers both the mouth and nose for the duration of their time within the redundancy unified school district district office building and meeting location legitimate requests for exemption based on a medical certification from the health care provider or other condition should
be submitted a minimum of 24 hours in advance for verification when an exemption is validated other means of protection such as a facial shall be utilized any person not wishing to comply with these masking requirements may still submit written comments to the board electronically via the subject okay and with that we have dr l and who lead us in the pledge of allegiance this is friends i remember your heart lighting again the united states of america and to the republic for just one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all okay in closed session report i'm happy to report that dr steven amber keller earned an above average evaluation of superintendent of schools for the redonna beach unified school district for the 20-20-21 school year by the rvusd board of education for the
terms in his contract dr fellow will advance the next step with his salary schedule thank you dr keller ford also met with staff and discussed public employee discipline and dismissal and getting direction so now i need a motion and a second for the approval of the minutes from the july 27 regular board of education meeting all of us in favor say aye okay supports the board we have this report from the bulletin play field presentation by curtis spain project engineer from geocenter consultants and josh melendez community outreach specialist from mirawaka communications thank you very much thank you very much for your time today my name is josh melendez and thank you my name is josh polinis and i am the public relations specialist for mayoral college mediation also very as a project manager for not
only the fulton field project but as well as the beach city's enhanced watershed management program i'm accompanied by my colleague for stein from geosynthetic consultants who is the firm that are designing and developing the plans for the enhanced watershed management program along with the fulton playfield that used to be important but just a quick just a quick historical acknowledgement the enhanced watershed management program is developed by the beach cities watershed management group which is comprised of the cities of redondo beach manhattan beach mimosa beach lawrence and the la county flood control district this program is used to develop and determine which projects around the south bay communities can be used to capture stormwater runoff as well as address and meet state and other local regulations regarding stormwater ownership and with that i will be passing
along the presentation to my colleague who will give you more technical uh uh report on the fulton playfield multi-benefit infiltration all right thank you josh uh good afternoon growing members my name is curtis fan i'm a project engineer with student network conference but like josh we recently completed updating the beach city e1 which is really a planning document to help the city the beaches identify the most popular solutions to improve the water quality um here in the south in the santa monica bay so as part of the um process we identify a lot of projects that we believe are going to be the best combination to help the cities achieve the objective and field and play field won't identify infiltration project is one of this which i'm really focusing on my presentation today so this
project is located at the port and blue build which is a couple blocks away from the office here it's a city on plane view utilizing by the city's lv president as well as the nearby schools uh so there is an existing flood control detention basing already under the play field that is constructed back in the early 2000s so what we're proposing is to modify the existing infrastructures to adding an infiltration element to it but together this project can be treating uh 465 acres of drainage area from redundant beach and manhattan beach in addition to providing infiltration benefit we're also adding some service beneficial elements uh which i am going to teach on the next slide but this will be mostly focused on providing additional community benefit to the project for the project we're targeting the
complete uh around by the end of 2028 at the latest and we'll anticipate a construction period to be less than 16. so here is a scheduling the subsurface that layer of accuracy so he see here there is an existing uh detention basing which is the cn color on the middle of the basin but what we're proposing is to add 13 deep injection drywalls connecting to the white to the west side of the play field and it's going to be connected to the basin so in this setup you know all this drive will be covered under the existing playground so you will not be able to see them above ground and they are underneath they're taking the water that is already flowing into the detention basin and capture our feet and then incorporate into the ground
so that we're removing them from flowing down um continue going downstream into the uh coronal gene which is essentially given to the centromere phenomonica bay um so here is a layout showing uh some positive options about uh above ground features so here we're only proposing to them at uh five to six uh targeted retention cells around the uh uh the ireland and ridgelands and we're also adding an oceanfront garden missing part of the play field so these are kind of an above-ground surface green uh still water management system that takes in using native draw tolerant plant and also you create a little bit depression storage so that you can receive the surface runoff from the roadway so those are going to be being supplementary to the underground surface or nandi uh last but not least
we're also proposing to add some outdoor access equipment to the bottom or to the southeast corner of the playfield to providing additional community benefit to the residence annual students um here is just a highlight of the two key benefits this project we're providing so the water quality wise we're able to capture treat more than eighty percent of the runoff coming from the 450 or 165 acres of germany area so this roughly means we can you know completely retain stormwater from eighty percent of storm that's flowing from the uh coming important regions and hopefully with this project can contribute to eliminating or reducing the need of the exposure following the major solutions another key benefit is that we're able to check for anticipation capture around 130 acres of water and this water will be captured and
infiltrated directly deep into the ground closer to the main sea level so this means that this water can help to mitigate the sea water insurance problem that is which is a potential threat to the groundwater water supply for the exploration of the west west coast base and broadway restaurant um so besides that the water quality and what is supply benefit we also anticipate this project will provide a lot of community investment and initiative solutions and most of these are associated with just adding the green wings the plants and also removing the impervious surface the addition of the infiltration element can also further increasing the flooding management capacity of the existing infrastructure and lastly we're going to add in the outdoor access equipment to provide provide additional recreational opportunities to the residents so we're we're presenting
this project here as part of our community engagement outreach member for the project so uh the city of redano beach already submitted a measured williams clean water um funding to the los angeles county we just admitted that last week uh so moving forward this project will undergo through a competitive competitive review process to receive the funding from the city to uh from the county to continue moving forward in addition to foster playful we have a lot of other projects is also identified in the beach city events which is shown on that here so moving forward we're willing to continue collaboration and communication with the ariana beach unified school district as we also continue implementing standard projects here providing benefit to the cities one of the another potential project here at nfi is the glenn henderson
uh we're gonna add a similar project here that is uh amazing that i think is amazing adjacent to the think elementary school so we're excited to continue working with the board to move forward on other projects and i'm going to talk back to josh to post in a better nation so we have an interactive website that we're going to be expanding upon right now we have the fulton play field that we did add some information about the glenn anderson project and we will be more than happy to do a separate presentation for glenn anderson once we have more of those uh information ready for you to present them whenever when we have time available we also have our email address info at beach cities or and we have our hotline 424-271-5072 case for any end
up letting you know the question but uh just like curtis with bloomington we're here to work with the community and especially so a lot of time in advance we want to be able to partner with a lot of stakeholders that have a lot of uh uh interest especially with open play field and uh commonly shared uh uh fields as that and i just wanna also let you know we actually had some communications in the ballet christian academy there um and they were on board with us and now gave the letter of support to us to continue and actually uh seek additional funding to measure them i'm not sure if anyone had any questions i'm not sure if that's part of the presentation thank you so much i just want to thank you for bringing this
to us and informing us about this and i would look forward to seeing and hearing from you about the anderson park project as well i just wanted to say these are always the types of things we look for our planning commission to be incorporated into projects because this type of infiltration is absolutely critical um drought but also to reduce all the water inclusion so it's a really smart investment in our infrastructure i appreciate that for doing it i would love to see this everywhere so thank you for forging ahead and look forward to seeing the nipple method thank you so much for your time thank you thank you appreciate it okay next up we're hearing about the 2021-2022 independent study program by dr susan wiles assistant superintendent of educational services and mr yen's brand director
of alternative education thank you so much members of the board leadership team dr keller they usually say hi to ricardo but he's out in the hallway and our friends online of course is here in the room i have the distinct pleasure of talking about isp with you with dr wilds and uh this is gonna be short and sweet and uh allowed time for others throughout the afternoon and um so we're gonna get started with isp and the kinesthetic program program so uh recent legislation we'll talk more about that in a second it was passed ab130 and there are two very distinct models um in our district now we have two choices as a student and family there's of course the traditional pre-coded learning model monday through friday with all of your teachers or teacher if
you're in elementary school and you're all the subjects and classes that you would like to take and then of course now there is the isp model uh it's important to know that there's a difference between the k through five learning platform which will be schools plp some of our students and families learned with that last year and apex a program we really like with regards to the rigor and the challenge and engagement of the secondary level and it's also uh we'll talk more details momentarily but it's a acer g at the high school level and there are some ap and honors courses available great so one of the biggest questions we get is are we doing distance learning like we did last year and the answer really is no um and the reason that is
is because the distance learning education code that provided us the ability to do that has been sunsetted so it's sunseted on june 30th of 2021. so to kind of give a little context to kind of where we are with independent study we need to talk about assembly bill 130. assembly bill 130 is the education finance uh budget trailer bill that was adopted on july 9th 2021 is kind of an emergency measure it went into effect almost immediately so this legislation impacts several different areas but including independent study which is we've always historically offered when a student would be out in the classroom temporarily for a variety of reasons this legislation we're going to talk about today is applicable to the 2021-22 school year only it allows students to participate in independent study when a person
when in-person instruction would put the student's health at risk as determined by the parent or legal guardian so just a reminder back in 2020 21 we did not need to necessarily take a daily attendance in independent study but we rather we were tasked with tracking student engagement back and now back in 20 now back in going forward in 2122 we are tracking student attendance and we are attendance reporting in fall so this is an independent study so let's take a look at what's left over from the traditional independent study and then what was new and added in 8130 so some of the carryovers this has always been an effect it's an alternative classroom instruction not an alternative curriculum we are still following and we are held to the california state standards we've got two types
of independent study programs the traditional um typically the full the full breadth of what students are studying as well as course-based individualized study in certain area in certain areas it's available to students in grades k through 12. staffing ratios are still held same under ed code it is voluntarily enrolled voluntarily in voluntary enrollment therefore we can't just decide pick and choose who we want in and place them in an independent setting important to note um and you'll notice that i did put lists that we've listed the egg codes along each of these but one thing in particular that's always been an effect is that special needs students cannot participate in independent study unless their iep specifically allows for such participation so that's really important and that's the work we're doing with our special education department
is doing with our families right now so what's new in ad130 so now we're allowed to offer independent study for students whose health would be put at risk if they were to come back in person again that's determined by the parent and the guardian we also have and you'll learn this in the middle there's some new requirements for districts in terms of independent study one is limited live interaction interaction and synchronous instruction and oftentimes people ask what's the difference well live interaction means um you and i are emailing back and forth to each other we could call each other we can go online and check in to do attendance synchronous instruction is i'm going to go live and there's going to be two way back and forth and we're going to we could do lessons
in social emotional we can do um group peers check in it's it's the back and back and forth those requirements vary by k brainspan k tk to third grade um the regulation state for daily live instruction it's minimal but it's daily in grades four through eight it calls for opportunities for interactions whether the students engage in them or not that's up to the student and we're required to have weekly live instruction so one at least one time a week and at high school it it narrows down even further some some form of weekly interaction which is again we're required that these courses provide the same access to students in our regular high school they need to be g and a new provision is that we have to very carefully monitor how students are succeeding or
not succeeding in independent study we're watching very closely with even with one day of students not engaging or not turning their cameras on for attendance taking then we're going to institute our reengagement strategies so we the district have to have procedures and to make sure this is a successful program for the students who are enrolled in it we also need to make sure that we have a plan to transition students back in person if it's not successful or parents are seeing that they're having difficulties at home as well we also have a requirement as the district to document students participation in live interaction and the synchronous instruction for every day of independent study and we have to maintain written um computer-based evidence of the student's engagement dr wells all right so continuing on as you
can see we're now in the parent engagement phase of this we were required by av130 to reach out to all of our 10 000 plus students and families here in our school district to let them know about the opportunity to attend the isp program and that went out a couple weeks ago uh last week we had a zoom in informational meeting uh about 80 plus families that expressed interest again and then we have an opportunity over the next few weeks to have either small group conferences or individual conferences with families to talk a little bit more about the program introduce the isp teacher our counselor operational staff that will support the isp program and then within 30 days of enrollment or the start of school there's a written ingredient that we have ready to go
that must be signed by the student family and our staff and last but not least just to give you a sense of where we're at i mentioned the 85 number or so earlier it's a good distribution as you can see across all grade levels um obviously you see a little bit higher in the second grade and there in the 10th grade uh base grade up there as well but we have about 85 students we've added a few over the last few hours but we're now in the place um where we're going to start reaching out to families to schedule meetings and those conferences that i mentioned and then uh we're gonna get ready for the first day of school next monday wednesday for our independent study program so any questions that you may have about
isp here in our district we have one one question yes what happens if a student goes back to school and changes their mind are they able to switch into isp it's probably the most important most common question that we're seeing these days they do have the right to request to enter the isp program or leave the isp program at any time of the school year and we have to address that within five school days but let me add this i highly recommend for our secondary students most especially those at the high school level that they make it at least a semester commitment because if they do decide let me give you an example of a junior who may attend the first few months of the school year and october november they say you know what
this isn't for us we really want to go back to campus we miss our friends we want to see our teachers the courses don't necessarily align perfectly because you're going to be using the apex learning platform versus the syllabi content standard skills concepts that our teachers on campus are instructing with so hope that makes sense so it's particularly important to think long and hard about this at the high school level a3g courses ap honors et cetera and integration back on the canvas this is a question about the community is if a student has covered positive or is exposed and vaccinated is this the program they would use if they were out of school sometime it would visit here to the quarantine process just as we did last academic year and then teachers provide independent work
makeup time for those students to get back into classes as soon as they're allowed to with regards to safety and health thank you it's not a temporary do high school students have the ability to still play sports and participate in independent studies it's a crazy question yes yeah i'm sure you've heard that one a lot athletics and extracurriculars are available according to the california department education language headquarters to attend to extracurriculars and athletics athletics probably one of the most common questions but but we highly recommend again the philosophy is i'm sure we all agree in this room getting kids back onto campus uh being with their peers being with their coaches being with their teachers and experiencing uh what we all enjoy about being in person thank you and this is a choice which students
and parents can make it is definitely a choice not something we are forcing anybody into it all right thank you thank you guys very much thanks uh i know rick is gonna come here a bit of a slide in a second i was gonna cover a lot of room here uh we're excited to have our schools opening next wednesday uh we're excited um enough to keep sharing this with our families for those who choosing to come back it's great to see approximately my students uh will be in a city that works for them and for everyone else coming back it works for them we're excited to have them back uh just be clear they covered it really well dr wiles and mr grant that you know there's the traditional learning model or of course the
independent study program we uh i have today the uh we're done dr wallace going to share a little bit about the backpack giveaway that we had today have a parent come up to me today and say hey um i just want you to know we're excited about the independence study program uh you know we don't want our kids essentially having to wear a mask so thank you for giving us an option they said it's not the ideal option but it's going to work for for my family and so what would share parents if that's the case we've got the independent study program for you whatever works for you we have a program for you um and so with that i wanted to show you this slide i think that all of it will um kind
of highlight all the measures we're taking and so the first one is of course from the california department of public health now accounting and public health and that is the mass mandate indoors uh they've given us the auction outdoors and so we've taken advantage of that there are some places that are continuing the mass outdoors we're going to give staff and students better options um and as the oscar shares there that's such a good change so obviously the sport has been willing to have continued conversations uh and and institute a special board meeting when necessary will things change we talked about uh new guidelines and um directives from our um our friends in california and electronic departments remind families that have started to left there my family's doorbells have social events and athletic events i
think it's really important um we always say you know the synergy of school and community and um we have seen plenty of coping cases uh begin outside of our school walls and then on our campus and so we would say uh parents we need your help we can't do this alone uh this is a synergistic relationship so please do your best to follow these protocols and guidance uh as well vaccination i think you know we provided multiple opportunities with our friends at the city's health district we have a vaccination of 12 to 17 year olds staff members um and of course families physical institution the the county has made one of its recommendations where possible repeat apart is ideal in the classroom most of our spaces will actually have that but not all of it
we're going to do the best we can and hygiene we've been relentless about that wash your hands multiple times a day uh as you know we we still have a doorbell here but we the doors are open the school sites doors are open we will have uh follow-up a protocol for coming into um the campus for the district in other words the health screening tool and taking your temperature but i'll talk a little bit about our kids if they come on campus in the new school year we have limited uh volunteers on campus that's a new piece from the alien county department of public health that sort of confirmed with them that we can start to bring back volunteers on a gradual basis which is exciting alpha excuse me ppe uh dr although here is
our ppe uh aficionado and we have more than enough pppe to begin this school year well air filter filtration and classroom ventilation is something we've taken very seriously most of our classrooms have american air filters we must stab them in the windows opening the doors and really trying to do our best to keep that interview quality um the passive screening we're going to ask parents to add home and staff to sell screen at home uh we are sending that out to all the parents to our principals the screening process uh similar to our the app we had last year but this is going to be done at home valley county department of public health has allowed us to have this option either to do it at the gate or at home some districts are going
to do it differently we're going to start by having this passive approach for our students coming to campus obviously the active screening will happen for visitors or volunteers along the campus so a lot of this information will come from our principals and so we ask our parents to follow that script um obviously minimizing congregating crafts that's a big piece that we're all trying to embrace indoors in app we follow all coded reporting contact tracing as i was sharing earlier on the civilian is an expert on this now and have a quite well versed while working with allie county department of public health so we do pay attention to exactly this process and then of course follow up on student employee absences um this is uh obviously to follow up uh play the guidance but it's
also because we care we want to know how people are doing and team um actually follows up personally with our positive cases to ensure they're doing well even after they have a negative test and just to be clear i'm going to send out a letter version of this on friday to all parents and staff just summarizing this entire slide and reminding everybody of our process and our protocols and i just i really trying to do what's best what's safe uh and what's doable to get us the ticket in the door to have school reopen uh in person so we're excited about that we appreciate our staff members for working hard to make this happen and then um we're gonna say it right here i'm going to introduce to you three new staff members administrators in
our district and the first one i'm going to introduce you is precious young who's a new program specialist i wanted to come to the microphone here and introduce yourself welcome president thank good you board members and everyone sitting in front of me i am excited to say that i have passed through a very rigorous hiring process and i am a new program specialist in the special ed department just a little bit about me really at the core of my values i believe that all students have a maximum potential and my role is to support them in getting there and so that is what i've dedicated myself to for 22 years i come from compton unified school district and i'm bringing the same energy and dedication to redondo beach i'm committed to the work that we
do in the special education office as well as the collaborative work we do with ed services and just to support the entire vision of redondo beach i really look forward to being here for a long time the welcome has been very warm and positive and again thank you so much for having me here this evening and having me here as a partner with you all also with us is dr jessica gabriel she's the best thank you so much president flynn's members of the board i'd like to personally thank you for everything you do for our district it's evident that you guys put kids first and i'm so proud to be part of an organization that leads that through and through i come to you from torrance unified school district where i served the last 13
years in multiple capacities specifically serving students with special needs and their families supporting students with autism and significant behavioral challenges truly is my passion and i look forward to bringing my skill set to support our usd on a personal note i was born and raised in torrance um i went to ucla for my undergrad i got my degree in psychology and my education and i'm a board certified behavior analyst and i went on to get my doctorate at usc which is ultimately what led me here because i did my dissertation on the inclusive practices of gen ed teachers to support students with special needs in their classrooms and when i interviewed our usd gen ed teachers i was truly blown away by the culture of inclusion that was evident in their responses so i'm so
excited to join the district um that exudes such a high caliber that sticks to the research i'd also like to thank dr wesley for the rigorous hiring process it's clear that that's why i'm surrounded by a truly remarkable leaders in our field so here's to a great a great year thank you so much from ferris middle school our new assistant principal ashland reynolds good afternoon everyone i first want to thank our board president and all of our board members for allowing me to be here today and speak my name is ashlyn ramos and i am so honored to be here to introduce myself as a new assistant principal at paris middle school i'm entering my 11th year of education this year i started my teaching career in washington dc and eventually made my way back
to california where i was born and raised i started my career in elementary school education and was an administrator in middle school and high school and i just really loved the middle school level it's right there in the middle and just the unique needs i i really enjoy that grade level so i'm excited to be the new assistant principal at paris middle school and i truly believe that i'm only standing here in front of you today because of the it's a very important role that education has played in my life um i i believe at my core that education saved my life and and although that's a story for another day um education has just been a staple in my life and i believe in the value of an excellent education and as the assistant
principal of paris middle school i will ensure that i will ensure that every single student that walks into our doors every single day will receive an excellent education i want to close by thanking dr wesley and dr keller for this seamless and very rigorous like my colleague that process hiring process and i want to thank the board for allowing me to be here today and i'm so excited to see you all on our campus this year thank you [Applause] you don't need to stay for the entirety and then finally for everybody to hear more about i'd like that dr wiles to share a little bit of update about our backpack giveaway help today it was just so fun so yeah today from 8 am to 1 30 pm uh rvusd and our district administrators um
carried on a tradition that was set forward by dr albert several years ago and it's probably one of the most joy-filled ways to start the school year so we welcome students to the south bay adult school for our annual backpack giveaway we sent out over 1 100 invitations to students to eligible students across the district we offered new backpacks we offered school supplies disposable masks and the ability to participate in free vision screening and really make sure that every student was set up for success to beginning to begin the school year so as of 1 30 p.m we had 408 students come and their families come through to gather supplies vision to learn partnered with us they screened 143 students of those 143 40 of those students ended up needing glasses the vision to learn
is going to provide glasses for all of those students and have them ready to go um as they return to school so well thank you thank you raymer thank you dan for being there and taking a shift um thank all of our administrators it's a hard time to be away from your campuses but um we really appreciate everybody and dr keller who is selling the backpacks what's the sell out there for now and just with that just a reminder of what we do here care even um a time like this and parents and families really appreciate so i wanted to compliment stat thoughts to go and do programs like this today and thank pta and stuff pta and also been great partners for that background program it was a wonderful morning a reminder getting back
to school and seeing kids smiling faces okay um and fantastic new hires by the way i'm sorry they left we could say that it's wonderful to meet them thank you dr wesley for that rigorous process okay so now we move to the hearing section members of the audience may address the board on any topic regardless of when their boundaries listed on the agenda however due to brownout regulations the board cannot engage in public discussion of an item's not on the agenda so if it's not on the agenda which refunds the board of detention may be investigated by the administration and a report reached the board either publicly or privately in a future meeting from visitors shall not accept big c three minutes unless the time limit is waived by a majority of the board the
board shall limit the total time republican put on each item to 20 minutes with more consent the president may increase or decrease the time allowed for public presentation depending on the topic and the number of persons wishing to be heard also as a reminder we are we do have an indoor basket requirement so even when you speak if you can keep your masks over your nose and mouth we appreciate it i have four advanced first written requests where they were received my first one is from monique grant so i was unaware every word meeting so i just want to let you know that i didn't know i i thought that i could speak on two agendas and i'm not i can't get in here all the time like most parents maybe but i wanted to
see if i could please have the opportunity to speak if you don't mind pulling the microphone down so everybody can hear you at home too closely though i'm very nervous this is some i'm doing a deep breath what's wrong with the same connection yeah i just got to stick to my paper so i think that's what winning the groups are about is better than that offend me and i think if i stick to this i won't get emotional easiest my name is monique grant i'm a parent of two children an incoming kindergartner and fourth grader here at washington anyone who knows us knows that we have always supported the staff with help greeting them with smiles speaking to them with kindness and love i'd like to thank you for beginning this meeting which i i
didn't get to see because i thought i assumed that i would be in here at the beginning did you open with the pledge of allegiance we did yes as we always did that was my opening um beginning this meeting with the pledge of allegiance as we are reminded that we are one nation under god as i begin i will share isaiah 41 10 do not fear crying with you in luke 21 15 for i will give you a mouth and wisdom which all of your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist as i watched the last board meeting on july 27 mr witkin began in fire insurance policies and legal liability mr webkinzet said if we do not follow the mandate and a teacher got covered and very sick and died like how
does our legal liability differ if we hadn't asked in the same teacher about sick and diet and that doctor annette nelson responded she spoke with ventura last winter and last month and would um the insurance would not cover them if they are not following the guidelines mr wink also asked but if we follow them then will they cover us dr alfred said yes doctor uh ralph mr stretzenberg stated does our current insurance have a cap on it or is it just shared with school policy this is towards the opening so i was watching this and um i bring this up to all all who are listening it couldn't be more apparent that our current board members are more worried about their liability and these extremely poor choices that they are continuing to make for our
health and safety for our children it's a sign of weakness and a sign that our board members know these current guidelines that they are being enforced on our children that are being enforced on our children are causing them to question and worry about their choices and at what cost our vendors our board members are beginning to question themselves and their liability because a lot of us are displaced in your choices and how you continue to choose and handle the care of our kids while being educated i don't have the time up here to talk about all the positives in our district which are many i need to speak about the ridiculousness but hypocrisy selfishness and lack to follow other facts rather than the up and down nutshell for quote of 19 that the ladc ph
cdc and who are now starting to backpedal in their data i need to address the board's lack of courage to encourage being the change we need an example to our kids that is okay to be different and start advocating for full day mascot food this isn't new anymore first it was just two weeks then three months not anymore when school shootings were almost on a regular happening in our country we trained the teachers and the adults we didn't send our kids with bulletproof vests from the campus more people have died from covered vaccines than coping it's not our duty to know why we are being misinformed your duty is to focus on the children's education not forcing them to wear a mask and not their vaccination status my kid's pediatrician at ucla medical center here
in dunder told me that my children should not be given this vaccine it is clinical trial we do not know that know this soon what the side effects are and if you're vaccinated you can still spread coping there is no proof that a child has infected a gender cause of death in any school in the world mass we know our numbers are minimal to what our what the heart of los angeles are coping with but i believe you continue to follow the lacd ph only because of your own liability issues we are celebrating we please start advocating more for us mr elder looking at said looking at the virus has killed over six hundred thousand not this is at the last meeting six hundred thousand not including the ones who've gotten sick and that your
primary goal is to give our kids the best education possible with the new variant mass are the way mask are the way to do it mr whitkin said delta is extremely contagious and who knows the course it will take mr whitman and mr elder is delta spiking is there a separate new test for the delta variant how do you know without mask without any mask on our kids that it won't be safer than you want until you actually try it it is time or you are as our board representatives leading the care of our children out of your own fears again because of your liability and personal concerns according to the cdc that you all reference to as credible they announced on july 21st of this year in a lab alert on their website which
i have here changes by withdrawing the pcr testing that was being used because it couldn't differentiate between covid and the flu influenza that alone should shut all of this down the case counts are absolutely inaccurate mr keller positive notes you opened up with last week the drinking fountains i want drinking fountains and water spouts too for our kids it's great but if you're believing what you're bored and your bosses are saying to you it makes no sense if you are scared of far more to scare the delta variant why are we opening water fountains to pull mouse downs while we're drinking it's confusing all right can i make sure that i get a merchandise how much longer do you have 32 minutes rachel said rachel lemon said that she does not believe in going against
the lacd ph guidelines that is for many as many parents that are against mask wearing that there are more parents in favor of masking the kids i can tell you right now that is not true rachel parents like me who prior to today haven't had the time the courage yet to speak up who would lose their jobs that they left work to advocate for their kid's rights health and safety or to help their watch kit watch their kids to be able to take these talk to take these meetings or even shoot over an email you're sorry if a statement simply isn't is untrue don't try to make it out that we who believe differently or strongly from what you sit up there and say are not hurt but we do count we don't and or
don't exist as members of this community we are here and doing something of the work that you two should be doing for our kids the more the board members sat up there and said that they wouldn't consider resolution for advocating for full day optional math squaring for our students and staff when school started in person last year they couldn't put their books inside of their desks but they could read and write at their desks they could eat nutrition with their friends but not at lunch at school with their friends from other classrooms stop following this nut show an lacd ph stop the insanity for the kids and staff stop this back and forth and step up and make masks wearing optional for full day i won't read from this right now but i do know
that you guys have the choice to you guys went out of the guidelines last year to not do plexiglas and i'm sorry i you know i don't know all of this stuff but i i do know that you guys do step out of the guidelines and i'm asking you to advocate for our kids you guys say framer even said that you know you guys think it's a small cost to get the kids back on campus to wear masks i you know i felt like that but it's been a year and a half and i haven't said anything everybody was the unknown but this back and forth we all know it's common i know we all have common sense in here and of course we all care about our children i want i do want to
say please let me finish everyone is asked mister she had a degree in fluid dynamics okay any watch many videos i need to ask what is the dirtiest part on on the human body let me tell you it is the mouth i don't think anyone would sit here and smell their anus or previous parts all day but that seems disgusting but your mouth is the dirtier dirtiest part on our body dirtier than our private parts why would we sniff the bacteria on our mouth all day long and force that on our children it's not a small cost and there are a lot of my friends and parents here in redondo who don't have the time why when we pick up our children when we have the same news the cdc website that not hand washing
or surgical masks actually prevent me from getting infected or prevent spreading did anyone know here that cdc about a month ago changed the required requirement for hospitals and clinics to count a covet case if you are now vaccinating you don't have to register that person as a coping case if they have coded even if they are dying this is on the cdc so why do you think people are saying that unvaccinated people are filling the hospitals it's because the cdc has literally changed that there are changes i understand you guys have responded very well i said i didn't have time for the positives this wasn't like a negative showdown for me so it took a lot of courage for me to come up here and state this but i am speaking on a lot of
behalf of just people i know i don't know people in this room i'm speaking on behalf of my children they're in kindergarten income in kindergarten and fourth grade please be the change be different teach your kids that it's okay to be different kids are not dying from covet it is not normalcy i know rhaegar said that you know there's normalcy i do want to say it is not normalcy i'm like my fourth grader watching or give a presentation or summer bridging with a mask on you can't hear i have a kindergartner who needs the social development we know you know you guys know these things i don't have to ask that so i don't i'm just questioning our board members i really am questioning and i just want you guys to question yourselves i know
that you guys have liabilities i know that every job my own husband is coming on everybody's door for everybody but what's it going to take your jobs are for our kids safety and education i understand that but when are you going to stop following lacd ph and bowing down to this it must be so frustrating i just hear your frustrations ramer at your meetings i know it's excruciating exhausting you said it's exhausting for us parents too so i'll leave it at that and then my other one is short it's just about the critical race theory and it's very important for me because i do have elementary students in it if you would please let me speak is this another three minutes because i think how many people i can cut it down to three minutes
all right thank you thank you very much yes i know that the crt curriculum is not has not yet been adopted but it's under the review by the committee i have taken the time to read these lessons and learning plans from the website in the curriculum grades k through 5 as they are currently affecting my two elementary would affect my two elementary age children for the grade levels kindergarten through fifth there are at least 31 lessons on gender and sexuality meaning what could you please clarify because a lot of these lessons i'm about to address with you are vague and leave a lot of unexplained before even beginning to possibly think about adopt this curriculum jobs and gender stereotypes i'm not going to do the grades you know it's k through 5th okay what do
halloween costumes say gender should it limit you what are the political gender biases among young students gender separate dialogue groups pure exclusion the web exclusive curriculum has proven to counteract gender bullying in the early grades what's so bad about that's so game exploring gender stereotypes and stories kinder this is kinder through fifth children will engage in a creative writing geared to fostering individual identity and resisting social definitions of what and how a boy how a boy or girl should be role exclusion early grades lessons to confront gender stereotypes these are all gender and sexual identity sexuality gender inequity why would you teach about transgenders to third through fifth graders when there is a current law until at least 18 years of age of sex change for a transition this is law was put into place
to protect children in their underdeveloped minds both mentally and physically it doesn't make sense you would be overstepping my family's right to teach about this when my children are when i feel my children are aged to be given a lesson about transgender people genders how many genders these things are these lessons are very vague how many genders will this curriculum be teaching it doesn't state which ones when i spoke to dr toronto in june i asked him once the earliest sex ed is taught in our schools he explained in fifth grade boys and girls are separated male and female how would you guys do that how would you do that anymore accepting this our schools don't get to choose or have the right to teach our children in kindergarten about gender and sexual sexual identity
it would be overstepping just a couple other gender bias and homophobia in sports third through fifth grade third through fifth grade what might become of our school district if you adopt this lesson will boys and girls locker room become co-ed will bathrooms become unisex will you then protect rights for the lgbt students to enter into bathrooms that they should not biologically be in would you put my daughter at risk and being the same bathroom with the opposite sex and it be tolerated that would mean putting children at risk in an unsafe situation i pray you truly think about the consequences of this crt curriculum and what it will support we already know our children have to hide behind mass but will they one day be hiding in privacy to change clothes besides the opposite sex
there are at least five lessons on religion this is public school we don't pay you to teach about religion which leads me to this lesson art and lgbt writes study of symbols i'll leave it with this k through 5th gender and sexuality teaching symbol kindergarten teaching sexual teaching symbols as a type of art will focus explicitly on the way symbols have been used to advance lgbt visibility and awareness of fights for the lgbt rights since this curriculum would include lessons on religion and symbolism for lgbt then i would assume it would be taught that what the original rainbow symbol stands for if unfamiliar it is a biblical symbol and the bible reads in genesis 9 13 i set my rainbow in the cloud and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between me
and earth will you also teach the symbolism from the bible when it comes to the rainbow what it means white anti-racist biographies white privilege right race this is an elementary school please let me finish race and privilege poster i don't want to let you finish this one is racist my wife will be racist if you bring this into it please do not bring this curriculum into redondo beach unified school district i beg you to please say no to this curriculum do not i just have one last thing two sentences they say no to critical race very curriculum if there's extra funding for this please say no protect our children and let them think for themselves do not and let them for themselves without looking at skin color early learning of gender sexualization division segregation conditioning
coaxing them indoctrinating them making these decisions for our kids that you shouldn't have the right to as parents to thank you very much thank you very very much for letting me speak that long and i don't want to have to send emails i'm not an email or not one i'm there to help the principal and do a hands-on art lesson with my kids and i'm hoping to get back on campus but i just i really want you guys to work i don't know how much you i know how much you guys have done i do want the kids on camera i don't want my child in independent study i when i try to email you guys i am going to be honest i have not been getting answers in emails i want they get a
phone call like i get i ask what is the protocol or if they don't have a mask on or just different things you know that though and i know you guys don't have all the answers but i felt it upon myself i was convicted i don't want to feel convicted as a parent to send my kid to what i know they love i don't cry for myself this is this has nothing i don't put a mask on all day for my kids but this is this is it i'm not uh 1.1 percent remember you said for the mass rally i guess that was going on outside i said that there were that many more parents that were that want there to show up i just want the parents hopefully i'm going to get the word
out to start watching these board meetings and think outside of the box sometimes we need to think outside of the box of what's going on because it's not consistent and i don't know if any of you guys have done medical degrees but i sometimes there are certain board members who sit there slouch down head down look weak you need to be strong for our parent for our school please keep fighting for our schools we've given you more than many of you allowed his time and maybe change your words and your time and without engaging on non-agendized items i would like to say that you'll get some clarification i'm not familiar with what curriculum it is that you believe that we are considering the theoretical toronto's in charge of it this year the crt curriculum the
critical rate period for justice oh i didn't get to announce that it came out in an email to everybody from the district i'm sorry you don't want to wear it i mean you're very busy learning for justice.org i got it two days before school dialogue yes i'm very familiar with that email i'm familiar with it i'm not too busy to be aware of what's going on it has not everything that is done and when we're going to have a discussion at a future board meeting how something actually becomes a class and a curriculum all of that happens in the public eye in a board meeting nothing has happened or been adopted and dr keller i can't really engage in a back and forth video on this listen but i do want us to please clarify
in whatever way we can about what is actually happening because uh this is you know what it is okay foreign it's heart-wrenching what's going on we all know it don't look this stuff in our school dr wise so i oversee our department and myself personally oversee all curriculums all curriculum adoptions we currently do not have any critical race theory of curriculum adoption committees going on we are not considering the adoption of critical race theory that is not something that is taking place right now in our district and i will them the only time that has come up is that a board meeting or if the parents sent an email it never came up during or as an equity committee and i sat on a committee and the learning for justice social standards was something that
they're looking at nothing that is in the process of being adopted and the letter clearly stated from being considering standards so nothing has been done thank you clarification okay next up we have sheila garcia well um now i have a lot of more questions than uh so one question i have is i have two topics do i get three minutes for each topic or is it just one because i'm just making a public comment it's a public comment that the rules are that you get three minutes for both and after three minutes we can see if there's a builder who's been at home so i was trying to time it i don't know if it's going to go over but i you know um so first of all um i'm a mother of a middle
schooler and i don't want everything to be negative but i have some facts that i wrote down but now that i heard from mr alder i don't like um that you mentioned vaccinated unvaccinated i think that is a divisive term that's just my opinion um the racial equity committee had someone that is actually promoting black lives matter um in regards to the mass i wanted in writing that you will assume all risk and liability in perpetuity if my child is forced to wear a mask denying his civil liberties which result in his mental or health physical well-being are affected adversely this includes any and all medical risks including skin rashes decreased oxygen levels ingesting of his own mucous bacteria i hereby advise and give you notice of elected public officials who took an oath to
uphold the constitution your obligation and duties are to educate our children the tenants of our american history your federal dollars coupled with federal authority are to be spent in accordance with the department of education your role your authority entails the promotion of informed patriotism patriotism essential to preserving liberty implementing equal access to education and safeguarding students constitutional rights essentially your job duties and those of your teachers is not to engage or spread anti-american ideology your obligation is to keep a school environment a political therefore changing the school's curricula emphasizing priority to racial issues is deemed unconstitutional children and teenagers grow stronger when they feel accepted and supported by the community embracing ideologies propaganda curricula or indoctrination is not your essential purpose therefore your call to action is to address acts of discrimination based on differing
personal traits abide by the department of education office for civil rights enforcing title vi civil rights act of 1964 title ix education amendments of 1972 you are responsible for addressing all harassment incidents of which you are made aware or have reasonable awareness i'm giving you notices back today okay next we have julie beltman can we take this thumb drive out and put another one in no you cannot is there another hole for that we have a security lock on that one you have a lid we have a security lock on that so what does that mean you don't have the ability for you to give a powerpoint presentation as a part of public transport there's nothing in that natural map that will allow okay well i don't need the mouse we could just take out
the mouse okay guys i was told that when i speak i could take the mask off the beginning over your nose and mouth please okay so i'm standing up here tall today because i am not so tall and i'm thinking that last time you did not actually hear me i was here two weeks ago to date and i spit out fact after fact after fact of public health and health information and at the culmination of your meeting which i watched on youtube you completely ignored everything i said everything we all said i'm a public health expert i went to the number one school of public health in the united states i have been practicing public health and functional medicine and i'm a health expert and a registered dietitian here in the south bay for 21
years um let me just see who's here are there any medical doctors in the room are there any people in this room that have studied immunology please raise your hand we are in a school setting how about epidemiology does anyone know what mitochondrial dysfunction is okay these are things that i talk about every single day so let's since no one else in the room knows any of these items to get any hands raising let's just assume that i am the health expert of the room okay i'm just going to take it on myself to educate the educators because it seems like you're missing a few pieces i echo everything the two women said before me everything i thought they did a phenomenal job she obviously sat and watched your board meeting and and took notes
on everything you said because david is so worried about your insurance policy wait until we sue you all for making our kids sick for psychological repetitive stress on making children wear a mask this is a problem you as the first girl said your mouth is the dirtiest part of your body do you want you are all sitting there sniffing your butt and your poop basically we all learn are there any science teachers in the room anybody we learn that we inhale oxygen and we excrete our waste and you are voting permanently to make our children breathe in their waste does anyone in this room have common sense i ask you i voted for some of you specifically because i thought you were here representing us and you know it was really nice to hear the
other people talk about all the positive things that you've been doing but it's unfortunate that we're here focusing on the negative i love to hear that you're going outside the box and you're allowing no masks outside that's fantastic but what about inside last night there were 17 and 500 people getting together at a gathering called the hollywood bowl every single night i am not finished and i am definitely going over is there a motion to extend her time i don't even think that was three minutes i don't know i don't know if that's held here i didn't see the timers from the beginning because your wires this is a back and forth we're not allowed to engage in yourself it's not an educational setting where we can raise our hands and respond so it's a
misnomer to lead people to believe that we can respond do i have emotions all right you're welcome to submit any comments you have in writing this matter of public comment or come back and i'm going to speak for my son he's next i'm going to take this time so i'll take another during this video yeah um the government timer for three minutes please did you have a new censorship yada newsome the governor does anybody know him in this room i'll just assume that you did he does not make a law does anybody know how the system works governors don't make a law public health departments don't make a law the governor specifically said it himself i can't make a law so i hope you'll follow my suggestion this is not a law you have the
opportunity to pull back against the system that is trying to create harm to our children you guys if you could really do go against the green go against the grain other school districts have made the mask a choice you have the opportunity you don't have to follow the public health department the barbara ferrer ernie just said if there's one covid case the school's going to be shut down go against what she's saying she does not make the law you guys work for us if you make these mandates i'm pulling my kid out of school tomorrow and we're all gonna follow and there are hundreds and thousands of us and you will all lose your jobs because there will be no funding so think about the whole picture and if you think one person can't make
a difference rachel think about your ancestors what did hitler do one person six million people extinguished from one person they're my ancestors too they're my ancestors too barack obama had a party this weekend they didn't wear masks they called themselves sophisticated well you know what my kids are sophisticated too and they're not going to wear a mouse our kids are all going to go to school without masks and you are not allowed to touch any of them you are not have anyone in this room ever thought that i have a minute and 10 seconds left you work for me if you don't remember i pay my taxes to pay all of your salaries so i am allowed to speak because i'm only on minute five you gave the other girl 10 minutes give me a
break okay i want the same respect for our children that barack obama had at his party and that governor newsom had when he went out to the restaurant with his friends we don't want our children wearing nests if you want to have fear and be afraid of a virus that is your opportunity to do whatever you want to do it's your right but my kids we could care less we call it schmovid we don't isolate we get together and we socialize because we have something called an immune system and we take care of our immune system and we don't have fear and i'm not going to go into the vaccine but as she said more people have died from it and the vaccine is actually causing the delta variant and it will cause the lambda
the gamma and every other variant they come out with before the end of 2023. if you read science like i do you would read the pamphlet i've read the patents for the vaccine it says it blocks your natural immunity i read the insert that came with the pfizer shot it says you will no longer have immunity and so this whole thing has been wear and asked for two you know it's we're gonna do this for two weeks everyone's fine then you're gonna wear a mask if you get vaccinated you don't have to wear a mask suddenly even if you're vaccinated you wear a mask now we have another variant let's wear the mask again when is it going to end and how much can we take and how long are you going to let this
affect our children anytime i see a child wearing a mask all i could think of is child abuse you cannot instill child abuse on our kids it is not acceptable and we will not stand for it and if you think parents can't do anything i am sure you have all seen food labels that say this has made this was manufactured in a phyllis facility that also treats peanuts why is that because of moms moms fought for their children and they got that on the label and we will not stop and we are only growing in numbers and you have this opportunity to teach the children about health and fitness and sports and building a strong immune system but instead you're putting fear on them and you're making them inhale poop it is absurd that you
can even go to that level you the pcr test the fda already declared it bonked it doesn't work it is 35 false positives and if you allow kids to get tested once a week to go to school then of course the numbers are going to go up and then of course they're going to say there's more common cases because one third of them are not actually coveted cases so the numbers are going to keep going up this is a game and if you can't read between the lines because there's so much censorship you're not going to learn the truth on cnn on nbc or abc or la times or new york times they are all owned by the same person i don't know how monique found out her information the first girl that spoke for
a long time because she's a parent and if she i'm a health expert so i understand she knew everything that was truthful so the information is there to be had if you are willing to open your eyes common sense that is giving you this is not open we're going to ask you to please wrap up your comments i'm going to wrap it up right now i'm gonna wrap it up right now israel was the number one nation in vaccines they vaccinated almost 95 of their population and now they will not let anyone in the country if they have had the vaccine because 85 to 95 of the people in their hospitals are vaccinated they got all their numbers down and then they went back up why did the pfizer ceo step down the day before
the vaccine came out why is he not getting vaccinated read between the lines common sense and 300 emails i have read from you about we care about the safety and the health of your children this is not congruent with that comment care about the safety and health of our children stand up and push back we are not la we have our perfect little community stand up and keep our community pure and let everyone make their own decision for their own children you are not a board of health you are a school you do not close the school down and make requirements when kids get the flu have you ever done that povid is a variant of the flu that is it go to the cdc's website and learn the real statistics and please vote for
our children's health and safety by being intelligent and using your common sense and not just doing what you're told because the people that did what they told ended up with hitler and that is where this is going if you do not stand up for our children thank you next up we have devin alvin well i love you i was at the system okay all right do we have any other advanced written requests nowhere else okay moving on to the communications guidelines we have the red on the beach teachers association and since you're no longer speaking you might be represented well i'm gonna leave because i have to take my child to register for a real school where they are allowed freedom and choice um but i will be watching the end of this all of
it and i hope that you actually think last time you didn't even converse you said what should reimer said what should we do david said we can't go our insurance and someone else said our school we can't go against the public health department yes you can you have the right it's called a free country make your own decision uh let's see am i ready to go with this here there all right uh good afternoon dr keller board members and members of cabinet my name is sarah robinson and i am the president of the redondo beach teachers association as our members are preparing for the beginning of the new school year they are also reflecting on what we have all been through over the past 18 months one of the things that helps us re-energize and
refresh ourselves for the upcoming year is a recommitment to our values as educators rbta is a member of our state organization the california teachers association cta represents more than 310 000 educators across the state from urban to rural elementary to higher education we are the champions of public education public education is the foundation of our 21st century democracy our public schools are where students come to be educated in the fullest sense of that work including as citizens of this great country as educators we strive every day to make every public school in college a place where we prepare the nation's young people to contribute to our society economy and citizenry our members are committed to making sure all of redondo beach's students get the public education they deserve we hold these values because all students
regardless of family circumstances where they live where they were born how they look who they love or the language they speak have the right to a public education that helps them reach their full potential but that full potential can only be reached when all students can see a future for themselves where they are safe supported and free from discrimination or unfair treatment that is why as members of cta we are committed to the fight for racial and social justice is a commitment to equity and fairness and treatment and this opportunity for everyone recognizing that all is not equal social justice means that we work actively to eradicate structural and institutional racism classism linguism ableism ageism heterosexism and religious bias and xenophobia social justice means that we as educators are responsible for the collective good of
society not simply our own individual interests the actions we take in the fight for social justice may vary from member to member based on our own personal experiences our backgrounds and our classrooms but the foundational principle that all people deserve respect opportunity and fair treatment is at the cornerstone of all that we do on behalf of the members of rbta which includes classroom teachers counselors school psychologists speech and language pathologists school nurses and teacher librarians we are looking forward to a safe healthy and in-person school year thank you so much um i don't see anybody from csea or aft oh sorry welcome all right good afternoon dr keller dr l turn dr wesley and board members my name is patricia moreno and i'm black blanco and i are here representing aft and our members i
am the aft secretary and hello my name is yes i hope you all are well um to begin this past year has been probably one of the toughest unprecedented year we all have had yet our child development teachers have been resilient through it all furthermore on behalf of a team and our members we want to thank all of you for supporting the rbusb child development centers thank you for approving the raises that would greatly benefit all of our members and seeing the value in hr development centers and teachers uh we look forward to everything you will do for us and for our district um thank you so much thank you very much for downloading i'm gonna bring some positive um good afternoon you guys my name is kimberly kiwis i'm your president for the council
pta um thank you dr keller board members and cabinet for letting me be here to speak i want to start off by saying how excited i am this afternoon after spending two long days at our uhs and after registration in the spirit we're both in person with our kids welcoming them back with their families seeing smiles through their masks they're just so happy to be back to god i mean my heart goes out and i feel so good and and i want you to know that all of your unit ptas have been planning this day for a long time and it's finally here and now more than ever we need your support join your ptas become a community member you can do that by going to rbpta.org slash membership and all of them all the
the ptas are there and i'm also here to present dr keller with an exciting gift um proudly at the district office all of the units will be presenting this beautiful banner that welcomes our families back and these are all the languages spoken at um our bus state and the community so each unit will have this banner and we'll hold along hang it proudly and i want to thank tjen lover and heather willoughby for researching this banner it took a while to get all those names and all those um nationalities on there there's even sign language on there so um thank you and i look forward to seeing you guys in person thank you can i leave that there thank you very much yes as well how many languages there can you know how many are
represented that's fantastic says welcome in all of those languages thank you very much are those all languages research spoken by our students it's our family our community yes each school is like a little bit different so just try to add as many thank you very much i don't see are they yet so moving on to general consent uh does anybody have anything they want to pull from my general consent hearing them can i get a motion and a second to approve 10.1 to 10.2 all those in favor okay on to action items 12.1 this one is going to require a row from vote to adopt resolution 2022.01 to establish new funds student activities special reserves fund welfare bentley this is you yes thank you uh this is um there were some changes in um uniform
requirements and as a result we are bringing our two middle school esds as well as our nhs asp into our district funds and they're no longer considered a separate judiciary so um using fund 008 we're asking for your approval and the reason we're using fundamental date of our general fund which is fund 201 is to create transparency and separation under coming so that we're better people more readily able to evaluate asd funds specifically separate from in general this is asbe just at the high school or at the middle schools as well both middle schools and rnhs anybody have any questions so we'll do a role called both mr witkin fema mr elder waller and i also say i said the motion passes 4-0 12.2 recommendation to approve approved professional services agreement with innovative and get
a motion in second place second okay just you as well there charlie that's me no okay stephanie wilde sorry so innovate ed is an educational consultant company that works to provide professional development to district and school site leaders as well as school site leadership teams that helps build their capacity around systems of continuous improvement so this proposal outlines professional professional development for us as district leaders coaching it all through wellness to the district school site leadership teams that will help us design implement and refine school improvement plans and data driven cycles to increase student achievement staff recommends you improve this purpose have any questions so i absolutely support professional development particularly during these incredibly difficult times in education or challenging times like i should say but do we have any way of measuring the effectiveness
of this program and seeing the impacts we get a report later on absolutely so we do so after every professional development we always do uh survey data so we want to see uh not only does how effective was that particular survey uh that particular professional development unit so that we can change and make adjustments for ongoing professional development we can track it over time this particular one will also have each schools and for us as a district our actual continuous improvement cycle that we will be designing right we'll have the data that goes with that as well thank you hey questions all those in favor say all right congratulations 12.3 recommendation to approve agreement with the new teacher project for rica i can't even read my classes of k-5 ela curriculum adoption can i get
a motion second please okay so that's me again so the new teacher project that was known as tntp is a national non-profit educational research company their job is to partner with schools and districts to provide consultation in high quality professional development and training so this proposal for tntp is to provide professional development for myself my department and for our ela k-5 adoption committee to provide research best practices that we are ready for our adoption and so that we are familiar with the primary best practices around primary infinitive awareness bonus and elementary literacy instruction so this professional development and support will increase the capacity of all committee members in order so that we may better cultivate and make recommendations for an elk ela curriculum adoption for you all staff recommended your approvals i just want to
say i'm very happy we're adopting a formal ela curriculum it's a it's great to have that finally so thank you for putting this forward and look forward to the results just a clarification this is the first step and what will be a pretty exhaustive program in actually adopting a new career anytime we adopt anything there is a very lengthy process um and this is about just the first step so we anticipate any sort of especially ela adoption this will be a neural network that will explode again feedback from the board the community or the teachers with a full stakeholder committee yeah we're happy just to chime in here with any sort of curriculum process and now that we have so many board members we're happy to have dr ross do the visitation on that process
because that's very important for some of the public to understand absolutely nuts and what is there and what is it and where people can go if they have questions that would be great we would recommend that you know why uh september meeting or meeting in september so the school year started that's all we would ask all right um september meetings any other questions about this contract okay all those in favor say aye assets 12.4 recommendation to approve agreement between rbufd and the clear recovery center can i get a motion in a second please hello okay so this is a proposed one-year agreement with clear recovery so clear clear recovery has agreed to help us address the mental health needs of students at the secondary level specifically our uhs for the 21-22 school year they will

a great partnership we have with the city with this program because programs like and cdc are absolutely critical for working parents i know there's there's always a wait list a lot of these so anytime you have an opportunity to expand and i completely support that uh yeah this is great and i'm really happy we're doing this thank yeah i just you i just made one thing i just want to compliment staff because this is we're still under a registered culinary process here and it's not as easy as just putting the rep program at our school site we have to work very closely with them and ensure that all protocols are being followed so i want to complement stem because this is just not an easy at all in our sites this is a lot of
work of sas part even though it is cities program yes okay all those in favor say aye okay motion passes four zero 12.6 except the initial proposal of the california school employees association chapter 57 csea initial initial reopener proposal for negotiations to the rebound innovation inside the school district can i get a motion then hello okay after probably presenting the california schools employees association's initial proposal at the left board meeting staff is recommending that you acknowledge receipt of and accept cse's 21-22 sunshine foreign negotiations questions well does in favor say aye aye she passes 4.7 adopt the initial proposal of the virgin beach unified school district to the california school employees association chapter 57 motion in second please okay after publicly presenting rbusd's initial proposal at the left board meeting staff recommends that you adopt
our bsd's negotiation proposal to csea so that we can begin 21-22 negotiations and we do have our first name set for one day any questions all this in favor say aye okay tentative agreement for reopener negotiations with the redondo beach teachers association and we're going to be unified school district for the 2021-22 school year motion and second place this is a tentative agreement signed agreed with rbta for the 21-22 reopening negotiations rvts in the process of ratifying this agreement which also need to take place before the agreement and calendar are finalized and when that happens we will post the 20 20 22 23 calendar online send it to all employees and call parents and staff has recommended that the board adopt the negotiated 4.9 tentative agreement for success or negotiations with early childhood federation aft
local 1475 afl-cic to redynam beach unified school district motion in second please this is a scientific agreement with aft for the 21-22 succession negotiations that were dissipated aft has informed us that they have received udanis ramification for this agreement and so once the board upon the votes to the doctor it will be part of it all those in favor say aye aye special motion passes 12 10 coded safety protocol side letter agreement with early childhood federation eft level 1475 and over donna beach unified school district can i get a motion and sentences similar to our involvement we attracted without internet this is a sign sign letter agreement that we reached with aft regarding the reopening of cdc um in the fall so like next week 21 22 school year still under some public constraint so
the details in an assigned letter outline safety protocols such as cleaning supplies math clearing screen self-screening protocols and lead rights and staff is recommending that board adopt the negotiated side letter agreement reached with 18 questions all those in favor say aye right she passes 12.11 mlu agreement with hermosa beach city school district for the 2021-22 school year in the redondo beach unified school district support and credentialed librarian services for remote from most of each school district motion all right um so last for meeting you approved in aw that we have rbca that outlined our viewer's commitment to our certificated librarian as she provides support and services to her most of these city school districts unless they don't have a certificate of librarian um which is a requirement for iphone so this is an mlu with
hermosa beach city school district which outlines the details of the support of services that our certificated librarian will provide an amount that they will pay us for that service his staff is recommending the board of ducks the negotiating and we were carmosa beach cities all those in favor say aye and 12.12 can i get a motion sending for the approval of approve the provisional internship permit request for certificated employee um it's rare that we bring your request as such for a provisional internship permit but we'll have difficulty hire a teacher than we will and in this case we've had difficulty hiring special education teachers last year and this year particularly because we had six um special ed teachers retired last year and so this is a recommendation to the lord to improve a provisional internship
event for a special ed teacher at one of our elementary schools and um she just simply needs to complete her she didn't teaching what she was unable to do because of coding and so with the fact that they're able to apply for this internship permit then she would do her student teaching sorry she would teach for us to get credit for her student teaching thus allowing her to apply for her credential and it should all be done in the first trimester so staff is recommending that you approve the provisional internship permit requests which will allow us to apply for this permit and then lego and then answer questions all those in favor say aye motion passes that's all the action i would like to say thank you to all of dr leslie and all of
our partners there's a lot of hard work that come into a lot of those negotiations that we're simply an action item but thank you very much for all of that hard work uh moving on to discussion items i don't know if i need a motion or something to discuss do i no no we're just getting the first reading of the board policy and administrative regulation 6158 for guardian independent study so this is a first reading of board policy administrative regulation 6158 independent studies so this is going to found some very familiar for instance from jen's and my presentation earlier we're presenting this first reading to align board policy 6158 with education code 51747 as amended by some of the bill 130 and that mandates that a governing board adopt a policy with the specified requirements
as a condition of receiving state apportionments for independent study students this amended board policy includes all of the mandates of assembly bill 130 around offering horse-based independent study the criteria for determining whether a student should continue an independent study and all other new regulations that were outlined in medicine with them this is the first reading and i'll come back for a second reading as well does anyone have any comments or questions at this time i need to discuss it great job i'm pointing it out earlier thank you for that okay moving on does anyone have any correspondence they'd like to share okay board member reports i'm going to start with you mr ellen just want to say thank you to all of our figures staff parents everyone going through the process of getting ready to
go back to school right now i know how chaotic that can be particularly these challenging times so it's an incredible amount of work and we do it so well it's not perfect it's not flawless but it's really worth it we get to see these kids back so i just want to say an incredible thank you to everyone making that happen and we're just going to do all these negotiations and i also really appreciate that everyone's kept the eye on the kids um you know we're all a team and i really love that spirit i love being able to support that any way i can so the next couple weeks will be i'm sure a little bit chaotic but uh thank you everyone for making that happen thanks i am i feel that we i need
to address performance made to the board today um and i appreciate the heartfelt comments that are made to us um they're helpful it's good to hear other people's opinions it's good to hear community opinions that are different from each other if not even from our own we don't have to have the same opinions what we do have to have is a common source of decency and i know as a board we expect that from each other i know as a school district we expect that from each other and i do not feel that we should expect any less from the parents of our children that come here to speak to us and there were speakers here last time and there were speakers here today who were not portraying what we hold ourselves to be and
what we expect from our students and that's not okay it's not okay not to wear a mask when you come to speak to us despite being told several times it's not okay to come and yell at us that does not get your message across any better it's not okay to attack people personally to put people down for what they look like what religion they are or what color their skin is that is not who we are as a community and as a school district and i am embarrassed by some of the comments that were made today um and i know that because it wasn't agendized we cannot as a board discuss it so i'm leaving you with my thoughts on what it is but i feel like it can't go left unsaid that um certain
comments are not appropriate um i'm gonna leave it at that thank you rachel uh normally i don't have a report i wasn't going to have one but i really appreciate what you just said rachel um i echo everything and the only small thing i'll add to that is i i agree like i welcome opposing opinions and that's what public comment is for and i'm open to having my mind changed as well but i hope people out there watching um do not take what comes as public comment as fact because there were just many things said today that were absolutely baffling to me i have no idea where they came from i know that certain things based on my line of work that related certain companies were demonstrably false so i hope people are aware of
that and i'll leave it at that thank you both i appreciate everybody's comment especially this is not an easy time it's not an easy job and uh public school is for the public and there is public comment and there has to be compromise not everybody is going to get their way no matter how much they yell it or scream it or threaten with it but we have to do a duty fiduciary morally and as representatives of the community to listen to all opinions and make the best opinion that will keep our students safe and our staff safe and i feel honored to work with all of you who make those opinions and um we try to keep order i apologize for allowing them to go over time i don't you know it's a balance there's
always an option for the community to reach out to us to put it as a matter of public record and writing you can do it privately as board members you can come and speak but it is not a an open mic session for people to spread fear i hope because i don't think we have a lot to care in our district we have a lot of good in our district and as we can we will address and i know this district addresses any parental comment or concern and picking up the phone and having a conversation i applaud our staff for doing them and being willing to have that conversation that i know we all are members as well so um very excited to welcome all of those that have not come back to work that
are coming back to work next week and we're going to have our kids back on campus we're going to work together to have an amazing school year we've got a lot of acceleration and a lot of great plans and i know our teachers have been working very hard to get this day so i look forward to welcoming that and i thank everyone for this okay calendar of events so coming up we have the first day of school on august the 18th we're back here on august the 24th it will be um open session begins at 4 pm that time it should be live on youtube we apologize for any technical difficulties but thank our amazing ita department for getting us online we have three holidays in september labor day the 7th and the 16th and
then we'll be back here on september the 28th when our open session begins at 5 pm so does anybody have future agenda items they'd like to have discussed i do have one agenda like the board to discuss um vaccine requirements for staff okay and i'll take a motion and a second for a german all those in favor say aye hi meaning to try thank you you
