the best move ever made quiet over there didn't have a high school and it was a little tough you know but i had the only basketball team that was ever over there and i i told ted i said i can coach but i don't want to know ted was a good hard uh nose principal he uh taught many many many kids he worked with many kids my name is teddy love canton illinois of canton athletics and uh he's going to be dearly missed in this community first met ted at western when i was in college and then i applied for a job over here he came here i did teach him shopping middle school she worked for you she worked for me and good solid teacher she she never i i never had a complaint
ever in crystal and uh probably one of the toughest things for me to do is let her go out to english hall school because she she was just a bright light all the time you know she just loved kids and uh just outstanding personnel i i want to echo that too because i worked top with crystal for almost 10 years great lady lord canton loved the cubs um [Laughter] mary jane watson yeah i taught with with mary jane um she was one of the kindest nicest most devoted first grade teachers between her and ben's wife they were the dynamic duel for for east view school she was just the sweetest kindest person i don't even know how to say that my wife thought the world well of her and i like said they're side by

we have teachers that are seasoned veterans and teachers that are that are almost brand new and it's been a good group to work with and putting a lot of new programs together and putting programs together to try to boost our enrollment from the eighth grade as they enroll at the high school level and shout out to those those individuals that are working so hard to continue to boost our enrollment as a cte program they're doing a very good job and so are you jay and so is her little where she is um but her name just left me isn't that terrible i'm telling you julie i'd like to add to that i think there's one i've been on a lot of committees but i think this is one of the best committees i've worked with
because they're all right working hard and i said it's kind of interesting because i never see one person never looked at the clock to see the time it is they'll stay in work so they get the we can't forget jeff he's doing a good job too with us um any any other school like to say something i would like to give a shout out to um actually the high school and stacey murphy and the food pantry that they've provided holiday meals at thanksgiving and at christmas and they reached out to all the other buildings and offered to provide meals to some of our families and so i just want to give a shout out to them and let them know that when i've delivered those meals at thanksgiving and today our families are very grateful
and it's just it's been a gift for them and it's been a gift for me to be able to provide that so thank you for that that's a wonderful program out there mm-hmm wonderful stacey murphy and kelsey everton yeah yeah i'm sorry that's okay anybody else nope okay uh recognition of bulls tree service who donated their time and equipment to help install the new fork truck battery that was previously donated by carol fitzgerald of kemper construction inc uh jay do you know about that like on the library on that so okay um i i don't remember exactly what the cost is i want to say it's around six thousand dollars to purchase those batteries it is not cheap and you cannot move them by hand they're extremely large and extremely heavy so between both tree
service and kemper construction we were able to get those replaced and get our forklift operational with no cost to the district so very grateful for that and very appreciative pretty sure the only thing you left them with is the forklift that needed the battery so it's a little difficult to do it so well that's probably very good i thought about that i had a pound so that's why they cost so much by the pound spin river college foundation dual credit scholarship uh recipients uh cynthia adams gave the clark jocelyn dyers jersey delts ella dixon joshua fuller ashton hand jennifer hernandez katherine jett alexander johnson sage kinser alexandra lincoln felder alexis rivley brad grady smith and audrey ward that's quite a few kids absolutely it's good we're glad to have that uh are there any requests
for the audience to address the board very nice move to content consent agenda we'll be doing 9a through uh 12 f are there any questions jeff do you have anything to comment on you can set agenda money nothing okay i'll entertain a motion to accept the consent agenda so move second yes yes jane lewis yes tom snowman yes okay moving on 12 g consider approval of the canton track repair bid to track services company in around any questions any motions i'll make a motion to approve motion by mr keys second second hi ben bishop no discussion please call the role matt keys yes jim bishop yes yes lauren coleman yes yes mike cruz yes leonard yes moving to 13 a district metrics report do you have anything to report on that no i believe it
was in our packets going to 13b library per capita grant report i see the library in there it's crispy right hello you guys are moving like faster than i've ever seen before nice job you haven't been to my meeting all right um as required by the per capita grip um stipulations i need to address the board once a year so this is your yearly howdy do um i shared with you this year in your board packet the library's policy and procedure manual and i did that with a clear intent to discuss book challenges um i'm not here to push a agenda of any kind political religious or what have you um in fact when i'm working i try really hard to be switzerland my opinion doesn't matter my personal opinion doesn't matter on a lot
of topics i look for items that are critically well reviewed that meet curricular objectives and that accurately reflect the world that we live in now with that said however i do need to admit that i am a staunch advocate for our students right to read and access information and that is the purpose of today's presentation the american library association's office of intellectual freedom has shared that they're seeing a precipitous rise in the number of book challenges especially to books about race and lgbtqia plus topics as a member of the board of iowa the association of illinois school library educators i can personally attest to the fact that schools all over illinois are getting an increased number of book challenges in fact i'll just published a statement that condemns recent efforts to remove materials as a
way to support our members who are undergoing these challenges fortunately um in canton or cuba my previous position i never had to deal with a formal challenge to book my material however if that time does come i wanted to make sure the board was aware of what the policy manual procedure is and it's on pages 15 through 8. concise the person making the contact me issues not resolved in a conversation with me um i would then provide the complaint with a request for reconsideration for at that point in time i would take it to the building principal and the superintendent and they would appoint a small committee and the plan details who would be on that committee to review that material and to make a recommendation and this is so that the community has a
stake um or has an opinion to say this is or is not acceptable so once it's um the committee has reviewed it they make the recommendation and then um the school generally follows the advice of that kid although they don't have to the superintendent the principal and i could with your support make a different decision this is not a process that i've created it's one that many school libraries use and in fact i've got it from a school library textbook i fully acknowledge that parents should have the opportunity to define for the students the children in their household what is appropriate for that household however i do not think that those parents should be able to dictate to children in every other household because not every home is the same not every parent is the
same and not every child is the same there's a common expression in libraries that books are like mirrors and windows like mirrors they help reflect what we observe and know about the world we live in it's important that children read or listen to stories about someone like themselves because no matter what their race creed religion or gender orientation is children who feel left out of books risk feeling like they've been left out of life if it's not acting as a mirror a book can be a window that allows us to view and understand lives that are different they must provide a diverse range of experiences opinions and perspectives to be a true window these windows into other worlds allow our children to gain empathy and understanding should an item in a school library ever be
formally challenged i hope that i have the support of our administration and the board to follow the reconsideration policy and defend our students right to read i know that sounds like a big bummer of a topic but really it's not it's a choice we have to make to defend our students for you so thank you for your time i wish you all the happiest holidays if you ever have a question um or concern about an item in the library please don't hesitate to bring it tonight thank you very much thank you very much 14 a future board retreat so i had a question since last month's meeting about potentially retreat so just looking for guests on if we want to have one and if we win well um i think we were in the beginning
when i got on the board we did them fairly like at least twice a year i think probably if we maybe we should have one um when are we gonna have everybody back in town about new year's eve [Laughter] are we gonna go with leonard or what so um because you know we need the big barn when you're back leonard i'm back i'm back in march uh middle of march [Music] think leonardo be here oh you too yeah we're gonna do it we could do it how about um look at kind of our before look at our um calendars at i know kind of early end of march first of april so we can put it on the agenda again to set a date in february if that would be great yep that'd be wonderful
everybody have a better idea thank you and then maybe we'll know where we're headed in those months okay b um here is our press packet it is very very long all the policies that the school board association like for us to update we're going to discuss them like we did no it took us a while to get through them they are you can get them if you want just read them over i think uh basically 90 of them was just beat on court cases and periods and commas and take out and put in the those kinds of things so if you have any questions contact dad that's right this is this is the longest press plus packet that's ever been put out and it is in response to many of the acts that were passed
by our state legislature in the past year so this is the first reading yeah the first reading and then next week next month we'll vote on 14c is my discussion with additional projects at the capitol memorial stadium 14 see be still right all right let me correct sorry that's what we had yeah because [Music] which one do you want first build this one [Music] it's probably the overall yeah right now it's okay okay i'm all good [Music] i sat with you [Music] well we previously talked to the building grounds committee uh meeting about uh removing and replacing the paving that's in front of the walkway at the stadium and part of this project then would be to remove all the blacktop that's in front of the stadium bleachers including that area around the concession stand
including the walkway that goes east out to the east ticket booth and including in the stair exits at the uh what i call the finish line bleachers that are at an angle during this work we plan to remove the existing stairs that go up as you've all noticed over the years trip hazard the top trip hazard at the bottom unequal steps we like to get that all repaired with new aluminum steps that meet the disabilities act during this work we'd like to remove a portion of the accessible platform and a portion of the accessible ramp to allow us to bring concrete trucks from the east side all the way down where the paving has been removed and allow us to start pouring at the west side by the uh right in front of the concession
area and then work our way eastward so that we can have the concrete board all at once another part of the project would be removal and replacement of the fence that is around the track itself this work would have to be in conjunction with the paving work in front of the stadium there's that whole stretch of fence that is adjacent to the track between the stadium bleachers and the track itself the project that you just approved is scheduled to begin i believe july first the project that we're discussing tonight would be to put out a bid for paving that area in front of the stadium and it would need to be done first would plan to start around may 24th whatever the final date for the elementary track meet occurs and then we'll start demolition
of the the stairs and the paving itself um the new fence would be a three foot six three foot six hive fence as it is now and the fence would actually enclose the eastern portion of the track which it does not do at this time that's all wide open when you come in through those east gates you could get right on the the track itself most tracks that i've been around anywhere totally enclosed and that's what we'll do that's part of this we're going to run the fence all the way down yes to the start of the yes on the uh we'll be putting in some new dream pipe uh to allow drainage under the bleachers so that the track itself slopes in toward the football field where there are drains the new paving we're
talking about now will slope under the bleachers where there is a drain pipe and we'll connect to that drain pipe with some new inlets we plan to bid the project to general contractors probably issue the project in january receive paving bids in january or february not sure the timing quite yet the revised estimate of cost is about 294 thousand dollars for for the project [Music] does that want to we we probably should get in on now and live the way prices have been going well we had the reason we wanted to go ahead and bid exactly right the reason we wanted to bid the track surface was there's price increases come almost monthly on these chemicals that go down the epoxy for the track well here are things so now we're in line for the
track surfacing of july 1st but we need to get this project down in bid before prices will begin that's right and same with the fencing around the track now is the time to do it if we're going to do it anytime soon otherwise we get to an issue of replacing the post between that concrete walkway and the track surface itself basically we'd have to tear out things that we recently replaced that's just on the home side right not going to replace any pencil over oh is it no it's it's for the entire track including adding if you think about the the track the section for the 100 meter dash where it comes out in the background right now that is has no fence around it so it would extend it and go around that also
just be careful just be clear 294 or 394. well be clear i heard what he said that i have something else written down from the meeting so well we made adjustments okay since our last meeting yes we did okay 294 is the project budget so that includes that includes the walking aisle as i call it the stationary paving yeah um this was the previous when we were in committee was 393 was the estimate at the time that same like for like is now 294. that seemed like for life is but if you recall at that meeting we also included a new fence yeah around ingersoll middle school oh that was in this was the okay that's the previous that's the big difference that was 590 000. got it got it got it got it and
there was some concrete work taken out yeah we took out the concrete and the concrete finish remind me how we pay for this this would be facility sales tax money yeah yep all right okay and jeff do you recall i'm looking up here what are balances in that fund right now [Music] so the two together we're gonna have a little over seven hundred thousand one point three yeah part of the track resurfacing is anticipated is paid for out of s or two funds i believe about two two hundred thousand of that roughly about two hundred thousand uh but we did have the maintenance grant to pay fifty thousand dollars for this project as well as we approved the life health safety bonds for about ninety thousand several months ago so that's about 140 right there
straight up then the one percent sales tax would cover the rest of it and we have a healthy 1.3 in there right now and that facility sales tax revenue is up that i think i've mentioned it before from the past um we're capturing about ten thousand dollars a month more than what we have previously right now yeah we're doing very well what a 102 is this past month and you know a year ago at this time the 76. wow and dollars and cents why is the biggest concern is with the projects we have proposed through the yes or money that's for funds right the costs continually go up that is over the course of the next two to three summers doing that work so you know we will see if we continue to do this
you know if we go over those extra funds which we have then um the that facility sales tax money go continue to go up and down um if we really needed to we do have about just under 1.7 million dollars also in working cash it's our hope and plan to not touch that but if we did need to for something the board wanted to do that would also be a possibility we can do a transfer from working cash so the two two funds can combine puts us at about one to about three million dollars cash on hand right now well the markets are still volatile right now we've been taking bids throughout the fall some uh they seem to come in okay but some are bloomed up so yeah it's a really hard to predict
right now yeah and i i mean we can't put these out for bids it doesn't mean we have to accept any bids the boards choose to reject those um out of all these projects i think the most critical one timing wise is that perimeter fence just because of the other work we're doing with the maintenance grant get that done before we do so our question to you today is what bids would you like us to seek would you like us to see the entire package or just parts of that package i think we need to go with the whole package you know later on i just don't like the idea of waiting if we can get a bid now and some of the options in it i think they'll touch on was the aluminum stairs
um going up and up into the bleachers and the platform some of those things don't add much money compared to just you know removing and putting back i think there's thousand dollars difference roughly or a little more you know versus just pulling the old and putting them putting them right back versus adding the new i think like an old man like me i'd appreciate this good good steps well i think i think from an obvious stadium gets used right it's used obviously a lot in the fall and a lot in the spring we've all been to the stadium the walkway in front of the bleachers we don't have a good walkway from the far end right it's just gravel it's hard for people to come in there and if you've got any kind of assistant
walking in it's almost extremely difficult to come in that end right so we do need to take care of that it is a big investment in that stadium but it gets used and we're going to put even more pressure on brad to use it even more in the spring than we currently do today right right but it's uh it's an important piece of the school for sure i think the one that was on there was the ims fence around that track and we just didn't feel like i mean as a committee we didn't feel like that's some place we wanted to go spend 80 000 right there's plenty of other places in the buildings to go spend that money right but the high school track itself is i mean that gets used and it's important
so for your english home building but we're fortunate to have have a place where those kids can practice but yeah i i agree with you 80 000 that's a lot for that fans i'm not sure it's the same purpose so so your question is do you want us to decide just some guidance on you know what what you want us to bid out if you if you want to bid out the whole you know proposal or if there's anything you want pulled off of it or how'd you like force to proceed i'll make i'll make motion that we uh we don't need them no no no we just need to give them guidance okay do you want to guide them first yeah i opened my gap while ago and i still feel that way about
it i think i think we're good in the long run we're probably gonna save some bucks uh i just don't think uh the kobe business is gonna do anything except drive prices higher than what they are right now well and there's quite a bit of coordination i feel between the insulation of the paving the fence and then the track project so we're going to put the fence and the paving together yeah it all works together that all works together yeah so we'll put it together right you want to get it because i didn't find that keeper then he's kneeling matthew yeah i mean obviously i'm in the committee our recommendation was yeah was to go with this stuff together yeah mr snowman mr barnard hey loser winner you lost him do you want to put
it together and better get it i'm fine with putting it together and bidding it seems seriously to do it separately and then end up and cost us more okay all right thank you very much how's the drainage on that on the football field that type of thing i know that was built in 1960 because i worked on it how do we know who to play [Music] is sloped the right way the drainage issue we have as you know thomas that's part of this is under the bleachers that just floods and turns into a mess in the rain and we want to clean that that that mess up the drainage was put in just after i quit working because i want to go back and start teaching them but i just wondered how that held up
over those years well when we redid the track surface room and senders to the two minutes of paving and with mid 90s uh we put in all new drainage and it's holding up just fine yep so your work made it to the mid 90s that's great well done yes good job tom yeah thanks tom the key to the drainage work in this document is to get it to drain where the new sidewalk is going to be and how it's attracted i think the most interesting thing is all the stuff that tom's done well the nice thing about the kids can play and not get their shoes money is that what it is a great school kid underneath blinkers all right thank you very much thank you information items distribution percentages from the full from county
school facility tax this is just an annual update on what our percentages from the county facility sales tax it's uh just over 46 this year [Music] uh mike matt myself and mr hewlett met with dr perry and a couple people from his group gave them an update on the midline eye conference meeting from december uh three superintendents from other districts or representatives were not at the meeting so i can't say any big decisions were made or much was accomplished other than more discussion long story short it's the hope and the intent to have everybody represented appropriately at the january meeting i believe it's january 12th at that meeting we'll have more discussion and take a straw pulling essence on who wants to consider expanding the mid-illini and if there's any hard no's at this time
we are aware of one hard note which is metamora nobody else has said no yet 100 so it takes at least six votes to expand um so no votes and that option would go away hopefully in january i'll have the more um accurate update for you do they do they have any idea who who wants to come in um there's been some different districts talked about and speculation there have been no discussions yeah that'd be a little premature at this point yeah yeah i would say that the group that dr perry is part of and the district when we had a committee that looked at it i don't know eight nine ten years ago same similar names so yeah similar names to that committee yeah so but again it's ted says it's a tough hurdle
right so within the bylaws of the conference you've got to have six yeses to even begin to entertain that next set of options so if you get three member schools who are a hard no on it it's a you know we have to be other options you go look at and we don't know what those are yet so okay 15 c 19 testing program ted asked me to give everybody some information an update on covet testing program currently we've kind of partnered with college they have a community testing site uh so we've had some staff go out there and utilize that [Music] for our own program uh there's been a couple of different options one was the shield testing and that was where they sent somebody here we partnered with that was only a one
time a week type of event they were really overbooked and so we actually got in this information to go with the midwest coordination center and that is where we have to do our own testing ourselves they don't send anybody but everything else is free besides that so all the scanner equipment the training the test materials uh the online portal uh to get consent forms uh everything the shipping everything is paid for the only thing that we're gonna cover and we're gonna use three funds for that way this helps with that continuity of services that we need to hire somebody which we have a posting right now for a full-time paraprofessional to help us out with that this will help us which i gave you some information on the testing aspect but also it's going to
help us with three different kind of areas one gives us a test to stay plan which we followed is these and idph's guidance on create a test to estate plan i think that was from part five whatever guidance was sent out i can't remember all the names now uh but we followed that we worked with katie lynn at the health department she has approved that i give you some of those uh points of that it also will allow us to have a student opt-in so once this is up and up and running we will invite families that if they want to opt in for their students to be tested weekly we would do that so this could help all three of those areas now with tests to stay that only involves kids that are exposed
in school so it's not if somebody got it at home that they can test to stay here it's only if it was exposure at school okay which right now after because each friday i post all of the numbers that would be about 50 of any of our quarantine students that are exposed at school so that would give those families the option to test the stay we would follow the test estate plan that was uh adopted approved by the bolton county health department so as soon as i can get someone hired i'm going to have them probably work from seven to you know two thirty or so seven to eight they can test any staff and get that taken care of that way uh you know staff doesn't have to try and make special arrangements arrangements
throughout the day and we can test our own people and then any of the tests to stay students we can get them tested before school starts as long as they have that negative test that first negative test and they keep negative then they can stay in school so as soon as i can get somebody hired for this and trained which there is some training involved which is provided by the lab that we work with so that's an update on our cova testing program covet is a huge concern still in our county numbers are very quickly on the rise david is always about a week behind i'm on a weekly county cove task force meeting last week since every monday afternoon last week it was about 180 cases per hundred thousand this week it jumped to
six hundred and eighty uh so canadian was considered high 680 is extremely high so it is cases are increasing um in our county and it is a concern we need to keep close eye on not available [Music] all of our extracurriculars too depends on if it's inside or outside it's just inside outside uh there's no contact tracing but if it's inside it's a school as long as it's properly wearing masks during that event or activity then yes it would apply okay i mean we have junior high teams that are shut down right now right now right so it's only vaccinated or kids who have had it in the last 90 days so in this case the rest of the students on those in those programs could test and theoretically test and stay if they follow
you could continue to run practices and compete yeah so there would be a short window when they wouldn't be able to be at school or compete while they're getting their first test to weigh down the results once they get that first negative test then they can return and they test on days one three five and seven or you know if it's a we can't send tests on friday saturday or sunday so if it's one of those days then then monday would be the next qualifier i understood okay how long does it take to get the results 24 to 48 hours but it depends on the volume of testing and that is just up to the lab so the results are in through the portal so a parent would of course get their results and also
a test coordinator that we would assign per building to get that so it's very very limited on any results you know not everybody's going to see that within our school community it's only select people that we would use so just take me through an example student gets contact traced tuesday afternoon they can test that day or they have to wait three days two days one i mean what if we have somebody available we have somebody to run but they stay out until they get three tests still i see a negative test okay got it until the lab comes back correct and in theory within 48 hours then that's that could be back thursday correct good as late as friday right got it as long as that we have that first negative test that puts them
on the test to stay program awesome awesome awesome awesome and of course there's other parameters no symptoms things like that yeah so and this is this is huge for us right now because the other issue we are having is um the county pool county health department has requested that any student that has a symptom is out for 10 days negative test or an alternate diagnosis we have been following negative tests alternate diagnosis or you know once they were symptom-free they could return so you know if the student has a headache that is a symptom and they were to get sent home they would be a qualifier to be out for 10 days one thing that's nice about this is that i'm going to upload you know all the names so everybody's in the system so
at any point if somebody gets called if i get called about my you know daughter was exposed at school i can say hey all right we can tell that parent go online do the consent we can get them tested as soon as possible the next available time that we have somebody okay it's good very good thank you it's got to be incredibly disruptive the way it is today i'm there a few hours a day each week 40 kids or 28 kids some days or today we had five so it has been very frustrating really appreciated imagine the teachers have to deal with this so it has been very frustrating trying to get this in place with the issues that we had with shield testing thinking we had it um and getting ready to get rocking
and rolling and that following through and then trying to get set up with another vendor so very excited to get the program going i think it's nothing but positive for our students it'll help our staff out as well that uh require a test weekly test we can have that taken care of for them and they don't have to worry about going somewhere and that can be something that we offer often you know provide them so just purely the expense of it right of itself yeah correct alone the inconvenience and we'll say finding somebody to do the job has been the challenge we posted a part-time position and had zero applicants so we have to to a full-time position they have extra time we'll have more students last time we looked we had one applicant so
hiring people right now is a challenge yeah i have spoken with that applicant she is not an officer by pro so we're contacting them as they apply and giving them information how to become certified so if anyone knows anyone who might be interested in employment how we call me as you showed them how to be researched by paraprofessionals we can keep them busy we have subpositions going and filled every day the other questions will be testing nope appreciate it thank you thank you very much new graduation requirements i'm up next no you're returning and asked me to give you an update regarding public act 101. zero five four and what the new grad requirements so here we are and i give you a summary on each of the major areas which there are four right
now that's coming down uh with next year's ninth years we have to provide a course year-long course that has i've heard anywhere has to be a year long or it's a unit of study uh that it's intensive instruction computer literacy uh not sure what computer literacy is defined at yet isb has yet to give us exactly what that means i believe we have some of these already out there uh you're squinting your eyes man i'm gonna let you finish okay like these are the most computer literate humans that i've ever walked the er kids in our school i mean that's correct so somewhere basically what this is we're gonna get a compliance and be like this year-long course has a intensive unit of computer literacy instruction in it i believe that a lot of our
tech savvy teachers are already doing this probably but at some point we're going to have to say you know this class now it can be an already existing class that or that fulfills another graduation requirement for example it could be english one it could be you know uh you know a math class that is you know has whatever they're going to define as an intensive unit of computer literacy instruction that has yet to be determined i just looked while you guys were talking about something else i lived online and they haven't posted anything yet which leads me to another thing they also district shall provide an opportunity for every school student to take at least one computer science course aligned to rigorous learning standards of the state board of education that was supposed to be
on or before december 1st 2021 that has yet to be released on what those standards are i just did a look as well and had a review process but i don't think they have actually said these are the computer literacy uh computer science uh standards yet i believe that we already have one course this is just that we have to provide the opportunity it doesn't mean that every kid has to take one we just have to provide at least one year opportunity a computer science course i believe we already have two so it's just a matter of us cross-referencing when they put out these are the illinois computer science rigor making sure that what we have at the high school mr mulholland is teaching works so i think we're okay on that one uh the
two years of lab science all of our sciences already have some sort of laboratory in there okay i'm back in all honesty i'm sure we have districts in our area because we have staff capable of teaching those things right is there a chance to i don't know it's a chance to reach out to normal standards and absolutely i think we're always open to that for any class that's gonna i mean for districts much much smaller that's going to be difficult on some of them to have a staff just capable of doing some of those things so or they offer it online what are you offered online yeah which that's yeah sorry about that well any other questions for 10 000 an hour [Laughter] next one is the laboratory science all of our science courses already
have some sort of laboratory projects assignments in them again it goes back to the definition what do they consider as a lab science compared to a regular sign i think all of ours are going to be fine it's just a matter of when they come out with what's lab ratory how much time the number of projects what is it uh i i did a little you know my own research on that and it's it's all over the place it doesn't give you like a percentage or anything yet so any questions gonna be interesting i'll be honest now it says 2028 2029 for ninth graders i did also a little bit of research and that is supposed to be and 29 is a drafting error and it was supposed to be sooner so they said to
watch out during this legislative session that a bill might be going through to make that sooner just wanted to give you that heads up this is where in addition to other grad requirements so in addition to your four years of english three math so on and so forth there's going to be two years of foreign language yeah it was better than the four so now there are some exemptions on that regarding ieps now this one is going to be the most interesting to kind of pull off now this is i went out and met with the counselors and talked with jay and right now if we just said out of our number of students who is already meeting this because then that gives us an idea of how much of you know the challenge is
going to be right now 10 to 20 right now 10 to 20 percent of the kids are already doing this because right now in spanish 2 and german 2 there's about 70 some kids so that's about 10 but talking with the counselors there's a few kids that end up taking that second year after you know a year or two afterwards not very many but just there's a few so that gives us that 10 to 20 are meeting this now there's going to be some that are exempt because of you know their individualized needs so you know this is going to probably impact you know 60 to 70 of our kids that are going to have to now make a choice of not taking basically another elective or study hall and have to take two years
of foreign language we don't we'll figure it out but we don't have i know we don't have the sections available to necessarily do that yet do we you do not have the sections available because they're teaching three and four spanish three german four and four so the sections are not out there for them to add this in there is there a proficiency test that some kids can take if they're bilingual at home good question i'm sure you could you could almost because that's kind of principal discretion on uh proficiency but the number of kids that would do that right now we don't know i mean we don't remember one or two a different language with their grandparents too that we don't even know about true and i think this is one we want to keep
a close eye on especially if they change the dates um assuming we will need to hire additional at least one additional foreign language teacher maybe more so i think we need to be ahead of the curve on this we don't want to wait until the year yes these are not easy for teachers to hire right no these are not and everybody's going to be looking for every every student has to have that requirement that is correct well shoot when i suppose my foreign language is english [Laughter] [Music] what did they use human yeah matt this is also another opportunity perhaps if we stay ahead of the curve yeah i think they used to count some type of drafting language or something as a language years ago sign language can be as well but there is
something in oh that's what you said if there if a student has an iep they could potentially get events yeah some of those yet to be determined where that falls on the iep team to make that decision but i know that that is out there because i read that in uh the statute it has to be taken at high school not middle school it's another that's an option that the counselors and i did talk about only thing that if you're gonna allow credit from ingersoll is that teacher there has to be certified or endorsed licensed to be teaching at a high school level how we give credit to our math kids spoon teacher does do we have foreign language at spoon at all do we know i mean it's one of the other ones you
can do a bit [Music] languages in there as well that is an option we talked about teaching one and two and we let those students do an independent study type of thing to get if they're interested in years three and four that is one way to get some sections back yeah yep makes sense so the counselors are aware of this they're you know they're thinking of options and you know they even we walked through a couple of different student schedules to really see how this would impact you know a student and you know they're going to have to come back and make some different choices that uh to not take an elective or study hall to get this included i mean that's it it does it locks them in from basically if a normal student
takes study hall each year they have about 11 elective year choices right now so that's going to take them down to 90. [Music] keep you posted on that especially if that timeline does change so that'll ramp things up a little bit here yeah my concern is those dates were supposed to be a graduation year not a freshman year so i considered being moved up by four years yeah because it's right now how it's worded is for ninth graders starting in 2829 2029 28 29 yep starting but like tad said there's something i read two different articles out of the new springfield decatur down there that said that that was a drafting error so that there will be a bill to correct that which i've not seen anything on if that's if yours is what you
said we're four years away right i mean you're four years away from this well it would be probably 24 25 25 it might want to survey how many teachers are out there in the college of these changes a 25-26 class right for six seven twenty eight nine that's four years as long as they're on the four-year plan yeah hopefully okey-dokey the other good news here future agenda items anybody have anything they want particularly hearing none i'll entertain a motion to enter into those sessions at 7 57. matt second then emily please call i couldn't hear you yes yes for me yes would you have done it oh yeah one hundred percent i know a handful of people around okay we're live we're back in session at 8 42 i will entertain a motion to consider
a agreement in lieu of expulsion for student number so moved second yes mike yes jane yes tom i will entertain a motion to close the meeting we'll move in second okay meeting is adjourned thank you everybody merry christmas have a happy holiday happy holidays you
