This is the next generation language access. And  basically this program is made for the bilingual   and multilingual students at DPS. And what we  do really they they would receive a very high   quality of interpreting uh services. I mean  they're going to learn how to become [music]   certified uh interpreters. Most of these students  uh they are bilingual as I said multilingual   and they are already helping their family members  [music] when they go to the hospitals when they   have any other needs you know in the community  but right now they are becoming professional   in doing so and they can make money they [music]  can start their own business. I think our goal as   educators and as a district is to really really  uh use the assets that we have in our hands and   right now it's our

ELLL students [music] with  the multiple languages and cultures that they can   you know um just contribute to the community.  I took the same program training before them.   So uh this program have [music] a many  benefits. So among them we can tell they   they can work as contract interpreters for any  any agency and that they can also work for DPS   because they are lo few interpreters out there on  the field and our students speak many languages.   They know the culture. They have been DPS so  they can help us in the community as a out person   outreach person for the district. I am called  to many schools and I cannot do it by myself.   Basically, I was pushing this to have student to  do the things I do so they can be able we're going   to rely

on them in the coming days and coming  months. I just want to tell you know how wonderful   how excited I I am because uh I worked as an  interpreter in the community. I know the need [music] We are now the innovativemies of the  Dayton public schools are in phase three   of the Ford next [music] generation learning  academy program. And what that means is we are   actually meeting [music] with eight tactic teams  that are writing the master plan. And so that was   so important [music] and so valuable that we now  can take it back and actually implement it to make   [music] sure our students are prepared for college  and careers and can really support this workforce.   We are equipping our students [music] with the  necessary tools that they need to be successful.   It's not just about

um the [music] data that goes  on in high school. We're talking about reaching   our kids outside of four walls to obtain uh a  career for themselves later down the road. Okay.   Uh I feel like it was really good to be in this  room. I got to meet people that I never been in   the room with before, [music] different  principles, people behind the scenes that   I don't even know about and really like get to  see what goes on outside [music] of just what I   see inside my classroom. I think overall it was  good to collaborate, [music] you know, bring us   all together. We got industry partners here. You  have teachers, you have directors, our chiefs,   principles are all coming together [music] and  we're all sharing our different experiences and   expertise along with our students giving our

students [music] a voice to be able to share   and speak on their experiences and the things that  they want because it's not just about what we see,   but also want to see it through their lens as  well. because [music] sometimes we get so far   disconnected, you know, from being  a student and I think that's huge   to [music] have all parties all on deck  to collaborate. So, this was awesome.   Well, I [music] first would like to thank  the hundreds, literally hundreds of partners   that have come now to over 10 meetings with  us [music] to put all of this together. And   from the bottom of our hearts, we thank them. For  any community partners that haven't been engaged,   we would like you [music] contact us. We have job  shadowing, mentorships, internships, all types of   things that they

could provide. [music] All of  that helps. But the biggest thing is when you   hear about the innovativeies of the Dayton public  schools, [music] be sure to spread the good news   that there's plenty of about what it means to  support a district [music] that's on the move   and making transformations that not only helps  our kids, [music] it's helping the entire region. [music] You don't you don't want you [music] Heat. Hey, Heat. [music] Heat. Hey, Heat. [music] [music] I'm a part of shared governance [music] and  we are talking about a steering committee.   We're talking about how to put people into  successful [music] roles and how we can   all communicate through different teams so then  we're all on the same page for the actual goal.   It feels good. It feels really really  good honestly. And it only feels

good   because at the beginning I was confused.  [music] Didn't know why I was here.   Just know my life coach brought me. Now it's  like I know exactly why I'm here. I know what   we want the end goal to be. [music] And I'm really  happy to see that what I'm saying in my opinion,   my comments are building into that final  presentation. I'm really excited to see how   it'll all come out. Honestly, like being here in  the process is totally different than seeing the   final outcome and not knowing the conversations  we had, the different meetings, any of that. So,   I'm really excited to see how the work  will actually come out and turn out.   My group is working on establishing a framework  for partners. [music] Work on how do we create a   database of all of the

partners at all the  schools in the district so [music] we can   create some standard operating procedures  on how partners interact with the district   and with [music] various schools. Who are the  contact points at those partners? What areas or   what buckets do they interact with? Is [music]  it an attendance situation? Is it an academic   situation? Is it college and career readiness? The  way we're approaching it at Ruskin, [music] the   way we're approaching the InnovativeMies of Dayton  public schools work is [music] through two paths.   We have an experiential path. We are getting kids  out into the world and we are bringing experts   into Ruskin [music] to try to raise kids awareness  of what is out in the world, what careers are out   there when they graduate, when they're adults. The  other path is the academic path. [music]

It's one   thing to try to create a high school cla  high school classes that will help kids   once they graduate. It's another [music] thing to  be able to prepare kids for those classes. That   starts with us. [music] That starts with us making  sure that our academic program at the elementary   level is tight. [music] That we are making sure  that kids are meeting benchmarks and are able to   work at grade [music] level so they are  successful in middle school and in high school. [music] Good morning, DPS. Morning. I can't hear you.  Good morning, DPS. Good morning. Welcome to this   year's annual team vote march. Y'all look so good  here today. Give yourself a round of applause.   You're here to cast a ballot for the first  time. I see the bands got new outfits on.   I see

internationals making their debut,  their dating debut for the first time.   Man, y'all showing up and showing out  with pride. That's what it's all about.   I want you to know that today, the fact that you  are fired up, ready to go, and vote is powerful.   Your ballot is your access point to democracy,  and voting is the entryway to power.   want you to know that today is a  moment that you'll never forget.   Today is all about you. At this moment, you  are making an affirmative decision to take   a stance in your way of life. You're going  to make decisions that are going to impact   your neighborhoods, your schools, your community,  and ultimately your way of life. Regardless of how   you vote, I want you to vote your community.  I want you to vote your neighborhoods. I want

you to vote your values. Those are things that  make you who you are. If you vote for people   and issues that reflect those, you will never go  wrong. I want you also to remember that there's   an election at least every six months. That  means that the energy that brought you here   has to keep you in the same moment even after  you cast your ballot in this election and the   one that follows and the one that follows and the  one that follows. That energy is what is going to   make you become or assist and impact in the very  change that you want to see in your community. [music] You can go ahead. He's right there. Everybody down here ready? Yes. Call to order Dayton Public School Board  meeting roll call. President Bailey here.   Dr. Goodwine here.

Mr. Lacy here. Mr. Smith  present. Miss Reinard present. Mr. Walker.   Uh Mr. Walker will be absent today.  Excused. Miss Garrison present.   Six present. Pledge of allegiance. To the flag of the United States of America   and to the republic for it  stands. One nation under God,   indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Our mission is to inspire, educate, and  empower. Our vision is to inspire, educate,   and empower scholars for lasting impact.  Our purpose to cultivate a supportive and   engaging ed educational experience. All right.  Uh are there any bargaining units here today? No. Thank   you. Uh if there's anyone to be heard from  the public, uh you have limits of 3 minutes.   The president has the discretion to  extend the time. When your time is up,   you are to stop speaking. It is inappropriate to  address any

matter involving pending disputes,   grievances under a labor agreement, disciplinary  actions involving an employee or a student,   ongoing labor negotiations, concerns, or  matters that have already been settled and or   any matter which because of its nature is deemed  appropriate to be discussed in executive session.   The purpose of the public hearing portion  of the meeting is for the members of the   public to express viewpoints and public  concerns. Treasurer, is there anyone?   Yes, we have photo of them. Uh,  Dominic Settles. Dominique Dominique. Cynthia Jensen. William Jensen. Sarah Ling. Uh, my name is Sarah Ling. I am a literacy  specialist at Wagamin Middle School. Um, I was   hired in October of 2025. Um, and um, I was hired  as a long-term sub because I needed to have some   things worked out with my license. I've  been a licensed teacher

since 2010. Um,   I have I've been teaching for 14 years and um, so  I was hired as a long-term sub and I was under the   impression that I I was told that once I got  the license I would be given a contract. Um,   that did not happen. Um, however, that is  not that's just some background. Um the   what I think needs to be addressed is the  treatment that these teachers are getting from HR.   The very unprofessional and very rude and  disrespectful behavior that has been happening to   me personally. And I know I'm not the only one. I  have been talked down to. I have been told that my   time as a teacher wasn't real  teaching. I have been told that I have been told that um I am the one at fault  for this whole

situation going the way it did   where I have been nothing but transparent  and communicative and asked questions   for the purpose of understanding. I've  gotten nothing but runaround and disrespect   and it is shameful and it is destroying the self  [sighs and gasps] the it is destroying teachers self self-confidence when you're constantly being told  that you are not good enough you are   not communicative enough you are not  respectful enough you're not whatever.   It hurts in a way that I can't  necessarily put into words.   And I know I'm not the only one. And the result  of all of this is that the kids suffer because   you're driving away veterans who want to work with  these kids. The best part of my job is the kids.   and I can't do my job properly because of  this treatment that I

have been receiving   from HR and from central office. It is shameful  and it needs to be addressed sooner rather than   later if you want to continue reaching those goals  of benefiting those kids of making sure they get   what they need to be able to get out of school to  graduate and to be successful successful adults.   The bottom line is it doesn't matter to me  even that it's it hurts me. That doesn't even   matter to me. The bottom line is it affects  the kids because I can't do my job well and   I don't want to be here because of the treatment  that I have received. And so when I can't do that   un your time is [clears throat] up but  I'm going to let you finish your state.   And again, I know I'm not the only

one. There  are other teachers and and we're all burned out   and we're all tired from getting runar around  and being talked to as though we don't matter.   Thank you. What's your name again?  Sarah Ling. Okay. Thank you. Thank you. Treasure, do you have That's  it. That's it. Thank you,   Mr. M. Okay. Thank you, [clears throat] Dr.  Bailey. I think there's a  correction to the date of flying.   Is there a correction? The flyin date I think  was April. Oh yeah, it is. But I don't you want to say something.   So is this a correction or it's a correction?   It's a it's a correction. We can

go ahead  with that. Thank you. Appreciate it. Okay. Do we need to vote on that? Is that We're  just voting on E. I mean C, correct?   Um, President Bailey. A to C.   Can we uh A and B is just a notice? Yeah, those  are just notices. We're not So, we're voting on C.   Just see. So, was it moved and second? Mr.  Lacy, yes. Mr. Smith, yes. Miss Rainard, yes.   Uh, Miss Garrison, yes. Six yeses. All right,  moving along really quickly. We just keep going.   Mr. Lacy, I I do not have anything. All  right, Mr. Walker's not here. Mr. Smith. Um, I don't I

think I What about I say, did did  anything happen this week? No, I just get out   here and enjoy some some some spring sports. That  is what I did. I went to saw some middle school   sports. That was kind of cool. So, get out there  and check that out. Um, as always, appreciate you   guys. Have a great week. All right, Miss Reinard.  Thank you, Mr. President. Um, a few things. Um,   I just have a quick legislative update on Senate  Bill 311, which was kind of the education omnibus   bill. It, uh, passed or it went through its  third Senate Education Committee hearing.   Um, so it's moving along. We're grateful for some  of the provisions in there. Many of the provisions   in there, it's kind of a cleanup bill. Um, one of  which is the additional lensure

flexibilities that   is given um, to teachers. Um, and as a factual bit  of information that I'm sharing with the public,   um, there was a new coalition that was unveiled  last week and it's the Ohioans to Protect   Public Services Coalition. This is a statewide  coalition to educate Ohioans about the impact   of eliminating property taxes. And I just want to  give notice to people about the coalition. Again,   the name is Ohioans to protect public services.  And um there is there are restrictions that board   members are bound to um in their official capacity  about advocating for um uh ballot initiatives.   Um but we are able in our capacity to provide um  neutral factual information regarding the impact   that eliminating property taxes may have on  the district. So I'm sharing this coalition   with the public and you can Google

it and look  at it and find the factual information there.   That is all I have, Mr. President. Thank you.  Dr. Goodwine and Squire. No comments. All right,   Miss Garrison. Yes, thank you. I  just wanted to give a shout out to   the uh debate planners and organizers and  volunteers. Um everything went well as I observed.   Um just a snippet of the middle schoolers and the  high schoolers um battling it out on the issue.   So, it was a well uh ran event that continues  to grow. So, kudos to everyone who um   participated in that and continue to volunteer  to give our children space to grow and develop um   when it comes to debating uh the issues. And uh we  had our business advisory committee meeting this   past uh Friday that went well uh too and looking  forward

to um moving forward with that committee   and uh engaging and adding some more uh bodies  to that committee as well. But we definitely hit   the ground running. So thank you uh Miss Miner  for your attendance and your feedback and your   excitement most of all. So uh that's all I have.  Oh, and I also wanted to thank Miss Sarah Lane,   even though she left, for um coming up to speak  publicly because that's a difficult thing to do.   A lot of times people choose to, especially staff,  choose to do that um behind closed doors, but   she did it publicly and definitely want to make  sure that we take a closer look into everybody's   concerns um if you do decide to bring it to  our attention. So, thank you. All right, Sarah. I will say I think this

is one of our shortest  meetings ever. So I will be Don't jinx it. Yeah.   So to say no, I feel like I've jinxed it. Um but  good evening board members and board leadership   or district leadership. Um I have two really brief  announcements. Uh the first is the student debates   uh this weekend was so fun. And uh I just  want to give a quick shout out to Dr. Shei's   team. I think specifically uh Miss Tiara  McGee, if I'm saying her name correctly,   uh was a big uh proponent and leader for that  effort and it was so exciting to see how proud   those students were and also the debate coaches  who attended. And so that's the first thing   I was really excited to share um and give a  shout out for. And then the other one is

our   department every year is required to do either  an internal or an external assessment to see   how are we serving the district also how are we  aligning more specifically towards our standards.   um we align with institute of internal auditor  standards and it's very rigorous and so we have   completed that self- assessment and we will be  presenting the results of that self- assessment   uh at our next audit committee meeting. So  I'm really excited to do that and excited to   share the information afterwards with the  full board at the probably the next board   retreat or you know whenever we can do that.  So thank you all and that's it. Thank you.   Mr. Wford, are you representing Dr. Jones today?  You don't have nothing. [laughter] Come on, man.   Appreciate it. Nothing. That's great.  Nothing. Come on. Yeah. All

right. Well,   that was your your moment. [laughter]  Um, Madam Treasure, I have nothing. Miss. Okay. Um, uh, and in honor of Dr.  Lawrence, who's away at a conference. I wanted to   uh invite everyone to the art show this Saturday.  We're excited about it. It'll be a K12 gallery,   a district-wide art show. The art teachers have  worked extremely hard, so we want to support them.   We have a lot of activities this weekend. There's  also a community cafe where our parents and   community members can give us feedback on our  planning uh moving towards the academy model.   Uh it was at the Dream Center last night and on  Saturday from 9 to 11 it will be at Thood Marshall   and then we'll have several others next week.  Central State West will sponsor one Melddale   Career Tech and the

Dayton Metro Library and we've  got those dates on our website and the Times. So   we want to encourage the community and an most  exciting thing that's happening next week. We   definitely would want to invite all of our board  members and community members to visit our high   schools during their decision day. Uh, as we move  into the academy pathways, all of our freshmen   are selecting their pathway and being notified  of which academy they'll be a part of. So,   it's going to kick off Monday at Belmont at 2:00.  Um, then Tuesday at Mound Street at 9:30. There'll   be Tuesday at Thood at 1:30. Wednesday at Styvers  and they'll do a different type of ceremony   at 9:30 in the morning. Dunbar is Thursday at  2:00 and Metal Deal is Thursday at 10:00 a.m.   So, I think I've got

all of them, but it's  going to be really exciting. We'd like to   invite everybody out to the art show, our  community cafes, and our decision days. All right. Uh, I'm going to try to make some  of those baseball games. Heard you tell me the   Belmont was doing pretty good, so I'm going to  try to get out there this week. Uh, thank you for   everybody that has come out today. And I hope you  guys have a beautiful day. We're getting out of   here a little bit early other than our executive  session. So, I hope you're able to enjoy the day.   Pursuant to section 121.22, 22G2 of the  Ohio Revised Code. I move that the board go   into exe executive session. This meeting  is being held to consider the appointment,   employment, dismissal, and or compensation  of a

public employee. So move second. Second. President Bailey. Yes.   Dr. Goodwin. Yes. Mr. Lacy. Yes. Mr. Smith. Yes.  Miss Rhinard. Yes. Miss Garrison. Yes. Six yeses.
