001[music] >> Mhm. >> [music] [music] >> Mhm. >> I'm going to wipe my nose before we go on. Put that behind you. Okay. Everybody ready? Let's go. I'm going to call the Lanesville Community School Board of Trustees regular meeting 7:00 p.m. Uh May 19th, 2026. The second uh order is the Pledge of Allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Okay, the third item is approval of minutes from the April 21st, 2026 board meeting. I had a couple of updates um where it said that the who was present, there was nobody present. And then one place it said that Ryan Lynn led the discussion, was actually Ryan Apple. That's only updates

002I have for that. Any updates? If not, could I have a motion and second to approve? I'll make a motion to approve the minutes from April 21st meeting. As amended. Okay, as amended. Yeah, I'll second. Any discussion? If not, all those in favor say I. I. Opposed, same sign. Motion passes. Also want to mention we had executive meeting on April 29th and May 5th, no official action was taken. Uh the fourth item on the list is approval of claims and payroll for the month of May. Could I have a motion and second to approve? I'll make a motion we approve the claims and payroll for the month of May. Do I have a second? I'll second. Um any discussion? I've got one question. The new Yale um they said robes for is that the teachers'

003robes? >> Yes. >> Okay, yeah. Okay, cuz I thought the students got new ones every year. No, they do, yeah. It's the Get them cleaned? The teacher robes got >> Will they Thank you. That's They were banned. Any more discussion? If not, all those in favor say I. I. I. Opposed, same sign. Motion passes. Okay, the next item is principals' reports. And uh neither Dr. Holder or Mr. Miller can be here today, but they did send me reports to read. Uh first I'll start with Dr. Holder. We are down to our final days. Teachers and staff appreciation week was great was a great way to start off the month and thank everyone who has an impact on the school. We want to thank the PTSO for a great week. We are looking forward to a

004fun-filled week packed with field trips, special activity celebrations, and making wonderful memories together as we wrap up in another another amazing school year. Just a reminder, sixth grade graduation is at 9:00 a.m. Uh on that last day of school. Uh K to 5 awards are at 12:30. Doors will open at noon for the awards and at 8:30 for graduation. >> [clears throat] >> Mr. Miller's report, sorry I'm not able to be with you. I am at the senior awards ceremony this evening. We are gearing up for graduation this Friday at 7:00 p.m. Doors open to the public at 6:15. Hope to see you all there. This class has really been wonderful and I will miss seeing them around the halls next year. I'm thankful for I'm thankful to be wrapping up my second year as

005principal Lanesville Community Schools and I see us continuing moving forward with great things to come for our school. Thank you to all the great teachers for helping us prepare these seniors and all of our students for any areas of life that they choose to tackle. He does have two presentations tonight. Uh the first one is Miss Casey Hulsong uh who is going to go through and uh share with the board and the community some uh improvements we're going to make to the library space. Uh we're really excited about that. Miss Hulsong? Okay, thank you. Um over the past few years, the library has really been changing. Um we have been shifting from a traditional quiet room of books to a lot more than that. Um on the elementary side specifically, we've been focusing on collaborating

006together. We really have a big focus on learning our passions. It's the first one. And then that hit that present button. Once it comes up. Um we've been really focusing on learning our passions and just making the library a place where we can explore and figure out who we really are. Um I want at the end of the day for every student to understand that the library is a safe space for them, no matter who they are, no matter what their interest is. That is a place where they can always feel safe and comfortable. So we're changing our mindset about how we use a library. We have a promise, it's in my library, I'm safe, I am part of a community. In my library, I can read, I can explore, I can think, I can

007create, I can grow, and I can aspire. So it's a it's a learning resource, it's a collaborative place where we can innovate together and figure out our identities. So it's no surprise um cuz we've been talking about this for a while. Thank you, Audrey. Um that our K-12 building has reached its capacity. Um we've had to rethink how to use the space that we have right now in new ways. And instead of envisioning this as just a space problem, I started thinking that this could actually be an opportunity. So in addition to that, Indiana has placed these this great need on these um graduation pathways that are going to get our students career ready by the time they graduate. So my idea is to create a future-ready media center that will connect our entire school

008community. Um you can think of it as a collaborative learning hub. It's a flexible instruction space. Uh, it's pathway centered and it is student driven. So, this space would support many functions. It'll have flexible mobile desks, standing workstations, which you can see off to the side. Um, a butcher block work table for kids to create, make, and build, and a comfortable collaborative, uh, seating opportunities for them to just be independent and to explore. This is all happening on the high school side first because this is where we can make a change right away. We're thinking of pulling our study hall students from our basement where they have been for many, many years up into the library where they will be able to use these four zones. The traditional zone up at the top where they'll

009be able to do what you would normally do in a library, read a book, study, just kind of decompress. Over to the side, zone two is a collaboration space where they will have one of these TVs where they can work on projects together, they can build their presentations. Zone three and zone four over on the side, one is a self-help station where they can learn more about who they are, what they need, and just kind of be independent, figure out where they are, what they're doing, and and just a a self-help place. And then our project maker space, which is really small there in zone three, but that's going to grow. I could see that being a really, really big part of our library as we are able to get more funding for this. Um,

010but it'll be a place to create, to build. Hopefully, we'll add some robotics and some more. We actually have 3D printers already that we can put in that space and just consumable supplies so that kids can come in and do their projects together. This would all happen during their study hall time so it's no change in our normal schedule. It's just a resource that they now have access to immediately. So, with all of this, we have to change the space. So, I am asking for some funds. All of this will come from either the funds that we already have in the library or on the high school side of the building, from an endowment that we get through the Harrison County Community Foundation, and then also we're asking for some grant funds to match the

011funds that we can provide from our Harrison County Community Foundation. This is so exciting to me because not only are we going to transform the space, we also have an opportunity to tie in the graduation pathways and offer an education pathway to our high school students, which will allow them to not only use this space, but also go into our teacher resource center within the library, use recess resources from it, and then be able to come over to our elementary side and work with our kids. So, this is 100% hands-on and a unique opportunity. We have a very unique opportunity at Lanesville because we're a K-12 building and that doesn't exist anywhere. And we have to embrace it. We have to remember and get on board with community again, and I think that this is

012an amazing place to start. We start with our kids because they're at the front, right? And so, being able to get this started has me so excited that I just I can't even sleep because I feel like this is just the best way to get our kids connected again. So, thank you for listening. I hope that makes sense, but if you have questions, feel free to ask me because like I said, I'm so excited about it. I just want to share it, and I think that we have the potential to take it from a small pathway so far. We can do so much with this if we can get year one to really work like we think it will. Thank you. Okay. Okay. >> [applause] >> Casey. >> [clears throat] >> I have a quick

013question. You sure? Um, so you're requesting the for the our spendable amount of money that is in that fund and then a grant as a second. So it's two pieces. >> The endowment is we have about 6,500 available in the high school library endowment. So I'm requesting six of that. I will be taking 750 out of library funds and then we will be using about 3,000 from our high school supply fund. Harrison County Community Foundation will match all of that with the grant that I've proposed. Um, but I do need the board to please sign off that it this is something that you guys will support us in in doing. What's the total cost then? Total cost is like 19,500. And and for me, when Susan first pitched this to me, um, I got excited

014along with her because in my six years here, that high school side of the library has been vastly under utilized. Uh, if if utilized much at all. And um, we're going to move the study hall up there. We're going to try to bring um, some life to that area and she did a wonderful job researching how to help fund all this stuff. Um, wonderful job coordinating what the spaces would look like and and I'm really really excited on this opportunity. Thank you. Thanks, Casey. And then next we have uh, Miss Heather Perkins. She's going to share with you guys a possible trip with our band students. Uh, if you remember last school year they went to Washington D.C. Uh, it was a wonderful trip. Really good for our kids uh, to experience another city. Uh,

015many had not men, and so uh she's uh exploring another opportunity. I'm actually going to walk over there. So, just a really quick recap for people who didn't know. Um last year this time last year, Bobby and Isaac were in front of you guys as two students telling you about the Washington D.C. trip. We still talk about it even today. So, just a quick recap from my perspective, I was on cloud nine the entire time. These kids not only um got to play on an actual stage and experience um music from a different point of view that's not like what we have here. They got to meet a whole bunch of other students from New Jersey mainly. Uh they got to see history come alive in front of them because majority of them have never

016even thought about going to Washington D.C. It was just an incredible opportunity and also the kids still talk about the one trophy we got, which I call the good citizenship award. Because they're just like, "Oh, we're actually good kids." And I'm like, "Yeah." >> [laughter] >> I wouldn't have taken you 12 hours away out of your parents' house to just have us run amok. So, I kind of took that as a building block and a launch pad to make this an every two-year trip is what I'm hoping. As a band teacher, from my perspective, the judges gave me some great food for thought that I really took back this year and try to utilize. One piece that they told me that I'm telling everybody is um as a band teacher, I thought I had to

017look at the whole picture of the piece of music. I thought they had to get the right notes, the right fingerings, the rhythm, and everything. And one of the judges looked at me and was just like, "You don't need to do that first. Why don't you just focus on the rhythm and teach the kids how the piece goes? Then let them discover the rest of it. And so that's kind of how I approached it this year and boy did these kids take off. I I can't even begin to tell you the vast improvement that these kids took. Plus it's a different culture in the band room since we took this trip. And so the kids came in hungry to just work. So I am taking that and launching into the next place I would like

018to go is New Orleans. So in this presentation I'm going to tell you basically how this came about and why do festivals and then obviously fundraising. So PAC Performing Arts Consults Consults um they are they do this for a living. This is what they do and I just signed up and they give you a phone call and they're like okay, what do you want to do with your kids? What do you want to accomplish? Um so we tailor made a really cool experience for these kids. Um New Orleans is one of my favorite cities because it is alive with music. And the band kids get to go experience music. I do a lot of jazz music in the music classroom so I am just chomping at the bit to take this group to the city

019where it all started and jazz music is our one claim to fame music in the in America so I want them to go see what this is about. Um So basically this is the itinerary that we have put together. We leave on a Wednesday April 14th and we drive all day. It's loads of fun with a bunch of teenagers. So and it's at a the hotel that they do that we will be staying as a really nice hotel where you get in quads so there'll be four four kids to a room. So, the first day what we decided to do is I want them to experience New Orleans. So, we are going to start with a swamp tour. And I've never been on one before, so I don't know what I'm getting myself into. So,

020hopefully we survive that. Um basically you just get on a pontoon boat and you go down the river and somebody guides and tells you what's going on. Uh the next place where we would be going is the World War Museum. And I do want to make this cross-curriculum. Um so, I'm planning on meeting with the teachers to try to come up with like different activities for the kids to do while we're down there. So, like the World War Museum, I want to work with our history teachers and come up with like a scavenger hunt for the kids to do while we're there. I want kids to see that this is not just a music trip, it's an education trip. So, and then PG version of the Mardi Gras country. Um so, there evidently is a

021gigantic um museum-like place where they get to see and interact with how Mardi Gras like basically just takes over New Orleans. And as a keepsake, they get to create their own Mardi Gras mask. And I'm hoping that we can have those Mardi Gras Mardi Gras masks made and then we feature them at our last concert. >> [clears throat] >> So, and then this is day I'm excited about. So, when I was talking to PAC, I was like, "I want to spark the kids' imagination. I want to show them something different." So, one cool thing about PAC is again they're tailor-making this to my request. So, we are going to go to the French Market which has all the people are just lined up all over the place just performing on the streets. Um when I

022went down one year, there was in front of one of the buildings, there's a junior high jazz band and they were just playing on the street and I took a video. I still have that video. So, the kids will be able hopefully will be able to see people performing on the streets. And then we would be walking to Preservation Hall and then they get their own private concert for 45 minutes. And with that, it's with a trained jazz musician and then they get a Q&A session with that jazz musician and learn about Preservation Hall. So, I'm super excited about that. And then we are This is brand new. There is a cooking school that you can take groups to down there. So, the kids get to learn how to make some authentic Cajun Cajun food.

023Which um hopefully you don't burn it down. So, and then I don't know about the walking haunting tour um because I was talking to some of the seniors and they were not happy with that. So, that may be scratched on the list. Um but it's just you get in a you basically just walk around New Orleans and they tell you ghost stories. And then obviously we're going for the Crescent City Music Festival. Um this one's different. They will actually place like um groups. So, we're right around intermediate to proficient level of bands. So, we will actually be competing against bands that are like us and we get to perform for 30 minutes and then the judges come out, give us some feedback. They make audio recordings like we did the last one. And then uh

024we go back to the French Quarter and kind of hang out until the ceremony. The awards ceremony is actually on a steamboat. So, the kids will be taking a tour down the Mississippi while they have an awards night. So, but I'm not in it for the awards. I'm in it for the um experience for the kids. So, if we win award, great, but I'm just excited about this opportunity. And then we come home the next day. So, they put together just an incredible opportunity for these kids, basically doing exactly what I asked them to do. Just having these kids immerse them in music culture. Uh the trip is $1,400. Unfortunately, it went up because the economy. Um they were very open and honest and said motorcoach has raised their rates. Um it's still cheaper drive

025down there. Gas prices. We just don't know. But with that, I do have fundraisers and Sorry, in in mind. I actually the first one is sponsorship is what I want to do. One thing I know about Lanesville, I am a Floyd Central grad. We paid for everything at Floyd Central. There wasn't a lot of help with raising the funds. One thing that I have learned about Lanesville is it's very community driven. And so I'm really hoping that these kids, if they do the work, they should be able to get enough sponsors to be able to help them go. So, it's there's a company that this is what they do. So, I've already talked to them and lined them up. They're helping our athletic department. So, I'm be using them. That should take care of the

026$1,400 in theory. But we also have our coffee fundraiser and then the bake sales is what we got planned for it. So, we should be able to raise the $1,400. And then I just want to end with telling you why these trips are important. It's a wonderful incentive for the band program and it's great recognition. It's really hard to have a band program in a area like this because I did graduate from Floyd Central, so I know. Um I do lose a couple kids to Floyd Central's program every year, as sad as that sounds, and I hate it. So, I need something to spark the kids' imagination, their willingness, and their wantingness to continue in the band program. Plus, it the community that it builds, these kids become family when you go on trips like

027this. And so, I'm hoping that we can continue this tradition of every other year going on a trip just to help that community stay as strong as I've seen it this year. So, these are important opportunities for the kids, plus half these kids don't get out of Indiana. So, this is an opportunity for me to take them somewhere and learn about history, more about music. I'm looking at a military band in the next couple of years. There's a military band trip in Virginia, which is another opportunity for a lot of history and good solid music history. So, these These trips are just a lot of fun. I wouldn't take any other kids with me cuz band kids, they soak this up. So, How many kids would go? We at least 50 people to go. 50

028total people, kids, sponsors, everybody, chaperones. Yep. >> And it's $1,400 the whole trip? >> Yeah. With seriously Yeah. I'm going. >> [laughter] >> Really? I personally think it sounded cheap, but that That was me. But that's the bus trip, everything. That's the whole thing. >> That's everything. Pat Pat does an incredible job putting this together, and they make sure that it is to go. They This guy that I talked to this last time, he's just like, "Bands Bands and performing art people like you and your community are why we have a business." Wow. Because it's cuz they want to provide these opportunities for kids that don't get that opportunity. No, I get I just I'm just debating the price. I'm thinking, "Okay, wow, good deal." That's everything. The kids are panicked, but >> [laughter] >>

029Yeah, okay. I'm going to say if you got any other questions, I will try to answer them. I want to make a positive comment. I went to the spring concert and the band played and I was impressed. Thank you. They were very, very, very good. >> The The feedback that I got from the judges at Washington is the reason why I feel like we They really gave me some great, helpful advice. In fact, one of the judges, he was so impressed with our kids, he took me to the side and was just like, "Tell me more about your group." So, we I sat there and talked to him for almost 45 minutes and he gave me some great pointers and stuff to do work with the kids and it was just great for me as

030a band director to try to figure out how to keep moving us forward. So, thank you. Well, the middle program was good, too. I'll give you that, too. I I was I was at that. It was exciting. It was good. >> You did good. It's like herding a bunch of cats, you know? It's like herding >> It is. You know, it's But, I wouldn't do it >> got them all in there. It's all good. Okay. Do we need to approve that? Approve that? Well, there will need to be an approval for an overnight trip. You want to add it to the agenda now? Are you ready to vote now? Go ahead and I'm I'm okay with you guys ready to cuz it's not sitting on the agenda now. Does the disbursement of library funds need

031approval? And the grant application? No. You guys sign on the grant application, but that doesn't need an official approval through the board. Who make a motion? To approve this. It'd be nice if I could get approval tonight so I can start planning parent teacher meetings. I'll make a motion we approve the overnight for the band to New Orleans. I'll second. Can you put dates? April 4th April 14th April 14th 2027 2027 2027 through the 17th. Yeah. 18th Any more discussion? So, I I a motion motion and a second. Any more discussion? If not, all those in favor say I. Oppose same sign. Motion passes. And now that it's been approved, I'll I'll pledge the $140 a tenth of the cost of your trip. Okay, thank you. I appreciate it. Thank you. Thanks Tony for putting

032me on the spot. Thank you. >> [laughter] [clears throat] >> Um and that concludes the uh the principal reports. Okay. Um Number six is superintendent. For myself, I just want to thank again the PTSO for everything they did for staff appreciation uh week. Really, really wonderful. Um thank you guys. Uh special thank you to Bud's Pfifer Jewelers in Corydon. Um they reached out to me and they donated a $100 gift certificate to every staff member that we have in the corporation uh to use on anything in their shop. Uh and so there were a lot of $100 gift cards that that went out to every staff member, custodians, and and you name it. Uh so really, really want to thank Bud's Pfifer Jewelers. Um next month we're going to get a a little presentation by

033me. The state of Indiana passed new A-F accountability models for schools and for school corporations. Um we have not received letter grades since 2018. They have been frozen ever since then, and so when you look at at Lanesville Community Schools and you see a B uh at the high school level and and I don't know what they are even uh because they've been locked in since long before I got here. But there's a a new model uh that that just got approved, and so I'll present to the board on that in June. Uh it's vastly different than what we had before. Uh and just a reminder, and I know that Mr. Miller mentioned it, but graduation is 7:00 on Friday. Uh doors will open at 6:15. I'm support kids. That concludes my report. Okay, the

034next item is number seven, the PTSO report. Okay, so we did have a great teacher appreciation week and we wanted to thank all the sponsors, Starlight Coffee, Mack Construction, Gunther's Chop Shop, Bova's Nutrition, Carley Purvis and Lydia Halbert, Zack and Kelly Snyder, Bud's Buy 4 Jewelers and also thank you to the high school student council for the desserts provided throughout the week. We also had our last Eagle days of the school year and we will hopefully continue that next year for the junior senior high. And then um for the last day of school we're going to have our um last car rider greeting. If anybody still wants to sign up, please do and dress like summer break. Mr. Bridges, you've been on summer break now for 3 years? 4 years? It's been wonderful. You should

035show up on Friday. >> Summer break, I've been on summer break for a while. >> [laughter] >> Who did the Qdoba today? Did you guys do that? No. Okay, that was pretty nice. I didn't eat the Qdoba but I saw it. It was nice. I didn't have any either. No. Um We do have We voted and we do have two new board members for the PTSO. Our new secretary is Carley Purvis and then our new treasurer is Genie Wilkerson. And then um we are going to have a drawing for the gift $100 gift card for everybody that volunteered throughout the year. We have Friday our last volunteer opportunity, so we will um um do a drawing for that, and then we will get in contact for whoever volunteered, and they win the gift card, so

036that's all we have. What was Mrs. Wilkerson's position? Uh, treasurer. >> Treasurer. Yep. Sorry to hear that. >> [laughter] >> Thank you. Yep, thank you. Okay, number eight is public comments, and there's nobody signed up for the first one. Number nine, approve summer contracts for Whitney Carver, Leanne Guesswine, and Hannah Miles. Could I have a motion Let me ask about that. Dr. Applewood, what what Okay, when do we when do we do that? When is summer school? We start just about the time school gets out. Okay, so it's the first week after your school's out, so it's the next week, obviously. Okay, and it goes for the week? Yeah, um, and they've got, depending on what it's going to be, um, with I-read those that need to to make up, they'll have a few opportunities

037to uh test uh, during that during this time frame. >> what this is for, the I-read kids that did not pass? >> Yes. Okay. >> Yeah, for the most part, yeah. And then some second graders do some remediation on it as well Okay. for the next [clears throat] year. Got it. Do you know how many kids that is at this point? >> not. >> Okay. Isn't it just 4 days? Typically, yes. >> Tuesday through Friday. >> Yeah. Are they half days, the 9-12? Is that what he said? Is that Okay. Okay, could I have a motion and second to approve? I'll make a motion to approve them. I'll second the motion to approve school summer school contracts for the three listed teachers. Any more discussion? If not, all those in favor say I. I. Opposed,

038same sign. Motion passes. Approve our number 10, approve high ability contracts for Kate Acton, Winnie Carver, Leslie Hodridge, Brook Brook Brook Kramer, and Bethany Miller. Could I have a motion and second to approve? I'll make a motion to approve the high ability contracts for the teachers listed there. Is this for next school year? No, this is for summer. This is for summer. This is for summer programs. Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'll second cuz I understand I have two granddaughters that are attending. Any discussion? >> [laughter] >> If not, all those in favor say I. I. Opposed, same sign. Motion passes. Number 11. It is not. Uh discuss or approve time tracking and absence tracking system, Red Rover, and what was the other one? That is correct. Um and then the other is Frontline. >> Frontline,

039yeah. Those were the two that we were able to uh to get pricing from. Currently, we've used a system for years and years and years in Miss Terry Dye. I know I saw her in here somewhere earlier. There she is. At one point in time, she was our sub coordinator. She can tell you it's a a chore and a half. Right now, Miss Donna Belcher does it for us and she's done a a wonderful job. Um that is currently $3,500 a year uh plus a a cell phone reimbursement. Uh the other component, which currently are unrelated, but through this process won't be, um time clocks for hourly employees. They currently check in and and do all that with a system called Time. We were looking at a few options that would combine those things for

040us, cut out that that need for the sub coordinator, even though like I said Ms. Belcher has done a wonderful job. A lot of early early hours trying to to get subs for people. What these two systems do is they allow a teacher to put in the sub information in the system and it immediately then contacts people that are eligible to sub. Uh it goes through and it sorts the days that they mark that they can work and can't work and do those things. Um It also does the time cards. The clocking in currently use badges on on that K-Time system. So it combines those two things. Uh both systems do that. Uh Ms. Similar has spent a lot of time talking with both companies, presentations from both companies. Um looking at the two different

041systems, there is a significant price difference in the two and honestly um Red Rover is considerably cheaper. And I think you guys have had that documentation uh for that. Not only that is the fact that she also liked that system better. Um currently we're spending on the combination of those about $7,500 to $7,600 a year. Um just some information between the the first day school and the 14th of May, we've had 584 sub requests from teachers that have been filled. Some of those uh not some of those but some others are from people who don't get subs um because of their role. Uh so we've been over over 600 so I know that's a lot for Ms. Belcher. Um looking at some holidays, those kinds of things. Uh total we've had over a thousand days

042taken off during the course of this year. So, that's a lot of a lot of coordination. Um the time clocks will be about the same. The system will change, but but nothing for our employees will change. And we honestly have just gone to time clocks here in the last few years. Uh that's gone pretty well. Uh we still have some hang-ups every now and then, but nothing too dramatic. Um if you look on that second page with Red Rover, you're looking at pricing down at the bottom. It's got the standard total um for the setup and then uh the subscription. And then the discounted total uh $3,260 uh for the setup and the subscription is 56 60. Uh so, you're really looking at essentially price-wise the same. >> 89, yes. So, you're talking 89 20

043for the one-time and then after that it's 660. >> Yep. And we're currently paying about $7,500 a year Okay. For those two. And the other guy was like 10 grand or something like that. >> Correct. $10,820. Yeah. And so, it's significant >> that Carrie likes? And and yep, and Ms. Simler liked Red Rover even better than Frontline. Uh so, that really just kind of uh I set it up for her. She spends a lot of time does a wonderful job. Um she's spent a lot done a lot of legwork talking with other school corporations on what they use, what they like, what they don't like, saying this is what we've got. Uh hours and hours and hours she has put into this. Um and and I'm pretty confident that for us um moving to that

044system would be very beneficial. Um I said as soon as a teacher sits it in, instead of requesting to a person, you know, and and who knows what's going on, person's asleep, whatever, it automatically then sends it out to everybody that that is eligible to to get that um that sub day. And then once they get it, then it shuts it off. Uh if it opens back up, it sends it straight back out. It sends teachers notifications of, you know, it's been filled and all those things. Plus uh administrators, it takes away the way that we do it now, and we've done it forever. You have just paper sheets. And you've got to sign them and send them in 15 different directions, and uh this would electronically track all of that, so everybody can see

045it, everybody can pull it up. Uh administrators will still have to check, sign off on it. Uh but it just it really streamlines this process for everybody. It also cut down on office help that we had. >> Yes. Okay. So, it would save us money or actually time. Yep. Like with the Elena doing things in the elementary office. Okay. Yep. So, it's 5660 after the initial of setup. Correct. >> point on. >> discounted total, yeah. >> And we're spending 7,500 now? Between that and the the uh time card system. >> Okay. And that that is the combination >> This takes away the time card system. Yeah, but you can see right there the absence and the time tracking, and it breaks it all the way down across for you. And then it gives you the

046discount, the the 26. 49% discount, and uh 34.67% discount on the subscription, and then it gives you the setup discount as well. That's a 1-year subscription? Correct. Do they guarantee this price after 1 year or or are we locked into that or I don't I don't know if they'll guarantee it. The uh that that part um I think as things move, it might shift a little bit. Um but even after that that one-time connection fee, you're still looking at two grand less than what we're spending Yeah. I get it. >> So, even if it does bump some as the years go by, Yeah. It's still less than Yeah. They would have to be approved every year, though. Yes. Okay. Yeah. >> So, we can look at it every year. If it looks >> Correct. >>

047nasty, we Correct. >> with it. Okay. And you know, with the the information you guys have there uh gives you what Red Rover as if Red Rover absence does leave request for staff, automated approval for leave request, notifications and scheduling of subs, reporting leave information, and then that integrated with Voice and then the time tracking time tracking for regular hourly users, extra duty tracking for any users including teachers, substitute time tracking. So it gives you all of those things. Do you want to go ahead and vote on it tonight? If you would, it would be Yep, so we can make sure we get that price locked in and try to get some things set for next school year. Do Could I have a motion and second to approve Red Rover? It looks like the setup

048cost are $3,260 and the first year is 5650, sorry, $5,660. Could I have a motion and second to approve that? I'll make a motion to approve. I'll second the motion. Any discussion? Um we're going with Red Rover because currently HR feels Voice isn't serving our needs as effectively, right? Voice right now only does K time. That is only the time clock. Yeah, we've got a completely separate entity. Okay, that's Okay, plus we can combine the two services. Yes. Okay. You have second? We got a second. Okay. Um any more discussion? If not, all those in favor say I. I. Opposed, same sign. Motion passes. Okay, number uh 12, the first reading of policy 4307, wireless device. State [clears throat] legislature this year um passed legislation that requires cell phones from the start of the day

049to the end of the day to be completely shut off, put away, uh and not accessible by children in the building. That includes cell phones, smart watches. If you've got a Fitbit that gives you the text messages, that as well. I've never seen anybody with meta glasses, but whatever that is, that as well. Anything that allows you to communicate with somebody else that is not a school issued device. Your device you're you're no longer allowed to have. There were really two different options. Um One is it is not allowed on school property. The other is it is, but it has to be put up during school hours. Um For us here at Lanesville, the second is is by far and away our best option. Um We've got a third of our kids are out of

050district kids. We've got a considerable number that drive. Um we've got a lot of kids that do after school activities, sports, those kinds of things. And so it's not really feasible to say that you cannot have those things. Um I'm going to read, since it is a new policy, I will read this to you. It's in in singular. A student may bring, but is prohibited from possessing and or using a wireless electronic device which is portable and is capable of providing voice messaging or other data communications between two or more persons and include cellular phones, tablet computers, laptop computers, digital cameras, gaming devices, and or smart watches, or any similar device that is connected to a self cell telephone, a cell tower, or the internet during the school day. A student may use such a

051device if a teacher requires use of school supplied devices or a school sanctioned device for instructional purposes only. During the school day, the wireless devices must be stored stored away in and then that is going to be determined by school administrators. Whether that's in the locker, whether it's in backpacks, that that may need to change as things go, but it gives them that flexibility. Powered off and inaccessible to students. This policy is not violated if the following in the following circumstances. When the student has been given permission from a teacher to use a school sanctioned or school provided wireless device for educational purposes during the school day. The student is authorized to use the wireless device at an appropriate time during an emergency. The student's use of a wireless device is to manage the student's

052medical condition as documented by and pursuant to an order from a licensed health care provider. The use by the student of the wireless device as part of the student's individual education plan or 504 plan. The use of the wireless device by the student is necessary for language translation when no school managed device is available. The student uses an unobtrusive audio recording device for note taking or personal learning assistance as long as the device captures only spoken word. Uh personal or audio does not capture, store, or transmit images or videos. Is visible to the teacher when in use. Is provided for inspection by school officials. And is used in a manner consistent with recording audio provisions of state and federal laws. A recording made by such a device will not be used for a disciplinary evaluation

053or supervisory purpose against a student or employee. A student may be disciplined including suspended or expelled for using a wireless electronic device in a manner for violating this policy and may have the device confiscated by school administrators. The device will be returned to the parent. Um This policy is from the Indiana School Boards Association. Um Really they they had two off two options like I discussed. They took the lead on this uh for school corporations, but it is state statute that um we need to by July 1 have something in place. So, that is the first reading of that proposed policy. Dr. Apple? Yes. Um the way I understand the law that when the governor uh approved it and it was written, it's it's bell-to-bell, no wireless device bell-to-bell. So, if if we take the

054the route that we're going to let them lock it up in their backpack or put it in the How do we ensure that bell-to-bell they do not access that device? If that device is is seen, if it's out, then they're in violation. Uh it would be the just the same if it were prohibited. You said, "It is not allowed to be here." We're not going to search, you know, their backpacks or but if it's out, then then they are in violation. Uh and so, the leeway comes through the administrators and that is if it's locked in and we've got lockers in our lower grades and some elementary grades as well, where typically you would have cell phones and every student has a locker. Uh and so, the discretion will be is it there or is

055it in the backpack? And there there are variances. Uh you know, if you ride a bus and the bell rings and you have to go to your locker to get it and locker jam, whatever might be. And so, you have some of those things that you have to worry about and think about, uh but it would be just like any other contraband. If it's seen, then it would fall into those categories. Again, if it's state law and it's bell-to-bell and we opt to take that liberty, is is the school under any obligation to the state of Indiana for proper enforcement, compliance with options A through F? Um I mean, I I understand what we're trying to do, be fair, but yet abide by the law, but this could be a and it will be a

056royal Oh, it it will. Some It it will be a botherance. Uh a lot of corporations are taking the backpack route. Uh some are taking the uh the the locker route. Very few that I know of. Initially, it had to be Uh you had to buy pouches. Yeah, the pouches were some vendors that the school controlled and locked it and you That that came out uh of the legislation because it was a significant cost to corporations. Okay. And plus you can buy the the magnets to unlock it on Amazon. Pretty cheap. Of course you can. And so, [laughter] you know, uh you know, that's significant there. And then you also have the issues where at the end of the day you have to unlock it and you've got 700 kids trying to use three different

057posts to unlock it and the bottleneck that caused So, all that came out. I just think the ease in implementation is going to be how effective we are as a school corporation of informing and educating the parents that this is a state law. It's not us. Correct. >> We're trying to make it as easy as we can for them. Yeah. You have kind of Audrey, I'm going to put you on the spot cuz I know you deal with this all the time. You have It's kind of a you kind of started something [clears throat] like this now, though, right? I mean, we done something similar to this, not quite as stringent. Is it? Yes, no? Tell me. Okay. Okay, but that'll be gone now. Okay. So, you Okay, and you're going to have to monitor

058that. You and Eric and everybody else, teachers as well. And on the elementary side, we've got fifth and sixth graders and fourth graders. >> That's all got to be monitored. Okay. I mean it I think it's a learning experience to try to see how this works the first year and then you tweak it as you go. Yeah, if something doesn't work right, then you're going to say, "Oh, we've got to fix that." So, we got you know, so you're going to have to And it is state law, you got to do it like like Donnie was saying. It ain't us, it's school it's the it's the state law that says schools have to do that. So, we'll abide. But you're going to have to enforce it. And that is Indiana code 20-26-6-40.7. Okay, so that's

059the first reading number 13. First reading of the revised policy of 22-60.1b. Yeah, and that comes to the um some revisions through some legislation. And really it's just some word changes. Um They were highlighted in what you were given. And so the the first change it changes the word beliefs to claims. A person who claims to have been discriminated against on the basis or disability. And so beliefs is now taken out of that through legislation and becomes claims. And then on page four um any corporation again that's a highlighted area. Uh any corporation employee who directly observes unlawful discrimination retaliation of a student is obligated in accordance and then it scratches out with this policy and then it puts with policy 226. point 01 section 504 ADA prohibition against discrimination based on disability. So, it

060adds those words. A little bit farther down where in the investigation and complaint procedures it takes alleges out and puts in claims again. On the page before you, Ms. Bolden, there was a bold in there. Very bottom. Which page Page two. Do that one. >> On page three at the bottom. If during investigation of alleged bullying Yeah. They added They added bullying. Okay. the word Uh the addition of the word bullying And then on the OCR complaint section, uh really all that is is the Chicago office is no longer in business. And so it changed it to the Denver office. Um a little bit farther down, it strikes out this policy and puts in policy 226.01 again. Uh right above that, it takes out um 34 CFR 104.31 104.39 and it makes it 34 CFR

061104.31-104.39. Um down a little bit farther um it adds information management down in the retention and investigate investigatory record materials. Um on that next page adds the word the on L. And then on the last page um towards the bottom it adds information management um on the documents ESI in those places and then plus adds the words personnel files and student records. Basically changing wording. Yes, it is. It's It's clerical errors. That's what Neola does for you. Okay. Uh whenever law changes, and so a policy has to be slightly adjusted, it does that for you. Okay. So that was uh number 13. Number 14 is the first reading of the revised policy 55 uh 17.01 bullying. Yeah, and on what you have, if you look on your second page there, it strikes out on step

062two where it was within and then we you put number business days before the that is all gone. It is now added before the end of the next instructional day. Uh before you could say two days or 48 hours or whatever. It it tells you before the end of the next instructional day. And then that's on that notification. Coaching is That's the codes at the bottom. >> Yeah, codes at the Yep. Yep. On the on the first one the Where's the number? 50 the 504. All three of that policy it talks about the compliance officer. Is the compliance officer named anywhere in our policies? Yes. Um Miss Seymour that or the HR director is the compliance. Okay. Okay. He knows that. Does she know that? Does she know that? She knows that, right? >> Correct.

063>> Okay. I'm just making sure. I asked the same question last year. >> Okay. Yeah, I think you did. Yeah, I think you did. Any other questions on those? Nope. Okay. Um any more on the first readings? No. We would just have second readings and vote on next time. >> Yep. Okay. Uh number 15, approve FMLA leave for uh Lacy Drexler from 9/21/2026 to 1/4/2024. Could I have 2027. Oh, 2027. Sorry. 9/21/2026 through 1/4/2027. Could I have a motion and second to approve? I'll make a motion we approve the FMLA leave for Lacey Drexler from 9/21/26 to 1/4/27. I'll second. Any discussion? If not, all those in favor say I. I. Opposed, [clears throat] same sign. Motion passes. Item number 16, approve FFA state convention June 15th through June 18th. Where is that? Um I'm

064guessing Well, you switch between Louisville and Indy. Indianapolis. It's the state convention. Okay, state. Okay. Okay. Yeah, good good job. I'll make a motion to approve the FFA state convention. Can I have a second? >> I'll second. Any discussion? If not, all those in favor say I. I. Opposed, same sign. Motion passes. Approve the position of substitute custodian. And this one, I just want to talk real quick. Uh it's real important to us. We found over the last several summers, um we have such a short window for turnaround. And like everybody else, custodians take vacation days. And uh that's the time that we we cannot afford to be short-handed. Um and we have found ourselves in that in that boat several times. Uh and we had a an FMLA, an injury, a workman's comp claim

065a couple years ago. Uh and so to allow us to to plug somebody in on those days, uh just to prove that position. So, it's just a general position. You plug it in. It's just a position that you're going to plug in as needed. Correct. Okay. And then, if approved, then we'll get to 18. Can I have a motion and second to approve? I'll make a motion that we approve the substitute custodian. I'll second it. Any discussion? If not, all those in favor say I. I. Opposed, same sign. Motion passes. Now we get to number 18, approve Heather Baker as substitute custodian. And really that will be uh for the summer time. That's the first one that's going to go into that. Yeah. And and that will be heavily used in the summer time. Okay.

066Now that we've created this position, what's How's the pay range based? Uh they will be at that at that base rate. You start at the bottom? Yeah. Okay. For custodians? Yes. >> Okay. Do I have a motion and second to approve? I'll make a motion to approve. I'll make a second to approve Heather Baker as a substitute custodian. Any discussion? If not, all those in favor say I. Opposed, same sign. Motion passes. Approve the retirement of Mary Jo Conder as full-time cafeteria staff. Ms. Conder? Tim, you want to say you want to come up and say something? >> [laughter] >> Or at the Wait, she signed up. She signed up for the end of the month. She's at the end. She wants to talk Well, if you want to wait till the end, go ahead,

067but I I'm going to say something first before you come up while you're walking. If I have to do this, I will, okay? But I don't know how long you've done this, Mary Jo. Bless your heart. Cuz I'm going to tell you what. That position is not an easy position. She runs into kids every She sees every kid every day that we're in school. And some of the most of those kids are pretty good. Some of those kids are not too good, but most of those kids are good. I agree. Most of the parents are pretty good. Some of the parents aren't pretty good. And that's that's the tough part of the job. Yes. >> But you always keep a smile on your face. I try. As much as I can tell anyway. I don't

068I've never seen that you haven't had one. I just want to thank you for putting 25 years of that job in. That's a tough one, okay? You've done a wonderful job. My kids still talk about you. As they and you >> Yeah, good. It's all good. It's all good. They still love you. They do and they just they're going to they always remember you smiling and stuff and you know. And I think I think that people need to understand that these positions are very very very very important to our kids. To see someone like you that takes this job very seriously and loves their job. And I know you did. I just want to say thank you. For doing that. Okay. Try to make me cry before I get started, Tim. >> I'm not trying

069to. You're going to make me cry and I'm not going to do it either. Did Did you harass him as well whenever his account went negative? >> Hey, wait a minute. Before you [laughter] leave, you make sure my money stays in that account so you don't take Okay? Make sure I got like 10 bucks in there. I got I got to harass today. >> Did you get that? I did. Just don't take my Okay. Whoever's taking over your job, make sure they understand I got money in that account, okay? [laughter] Go ahead. I've gotten a couple of texts. Okay, just make it to Yeah. Yeah. Okay, I'm going to start by saying how blessed I've been to have had the privilege of working here for 25 years. With so many friends and sweet students. I've

070been here for some of the happiest and saddest times of my life and my school family was always there for me. With a hug and to share in my joys and sorrows. This has always been a close and loving community school. The keyword being community. It is not a dictatorship. It was always considered such a coveted position if you were lucky enough to work at Lanesville School because there were never any job openings at any level. Now it seems that we're never fully staffed. Doesn't that make you wonder why? If I hadn't been here to appreciate how good things everything was in the past, I probably wouldn't be so bothered by the chaotic cluster that is here now. And I firmly believe that the Lanesville way was the best way. Nobody's ever excited about change,

071especially when everything seems to be running so smoothly. I tried to accept the changes we were told needed to happen, even though I was confused as to why they needed to happen. My confusion soon changed to anger. I was angry at everybody, and angry that I had to be here where my happiness had been taken away. Then I became frustrated because no matter who I spoke to, my concerns were never validated. My frustration fizzled out, and the only way that I could get through every day was to give up. Not cry anymore, and not care anymore. And that hurt my soul because I've always given everything for this school that I loved. One of the results that we've had to endure in the cafeteria is a consistent disrespect and excessive noise in the cafeteria. For

072instance, I've had to attach a speaker to my phone every day because the volume is so loud we can't even hear the phone ringing ever. When the town is testing the alarms outside the sirens, we can't hear it in here unless the door is open. That's a safety hazard. When my kids were in school here, they had assigned seating every day. And if they earned it, free seating was awarded every Friday. We had expectations for the students and there were consequences if these weren't met. Kids appreciate discipline and structure. In the past, you could always feel the happiness everywhere you walked in the school. From the faculty and staff and of course the students. >> [snorts] >> But now it has become an institution, not a community school. With school pride, we used to work

073together as one strong unit. And now there are separate teams. And that has taken away our strength to be the best that we can be. If this mindset of separate teams continue, everyone ends up on a losing team. I know that my opinion probably doesn't matter. I'm only a lunch lady. And I'm easily replaced. But keep in mind that everybody is replaceable. No matter how big or small your job may be. Something [snorts] that needs to be remembered is that even though a person may be qualified for a position in black and white, does not mean they're qualified in purple and white. And to you, our elected school board, who we trust to make the best decisions for our school. Shame on you if you don't stop this foundation from crumbling. Shame on you. One

074of my favorite senior students that has known me her entire school career told me recently that I've always been a bright shining light here. And that lately she's noticed that I'm not shining as brightly as I used to. My plan was never to leave here until I was really old, like Tim did. >> [laughter] >> Show the kind of respect to my head. But I can't do it anymore. I hope that I've made a difference to somebody, hopefully a lot of somebodies in the past 25 years. Part of my heart will always be here. But I'm tired of fighting for what I believe is best for the school. This little light of mine, I need to let it shine somewhere else before it goes out. And my sweet grandbaby has sped up my escape plan,

075so I'm grateful for that. And I would like to say to April Holder, you win. You wore me down. I'm out of here. Thank you. >> [applause] >> Thank you for 25 years. Um Tim, you got anybody else? >> No, I'm good. I gave my spiel a while ago. I did my spiel. Uh can I have a motion and a second to approve the retirement? I'll make the motion to accept the retirement of Mary Jo Conder as our cafeteria staff. Our cafeteria staff. I'll second the motion and move that we accept the challenge as well. Okay, any discussion? If not, all those in favor say I. I. Opposed, same sign. Motion passes. Approve the resignation of Teresa Barnacle as cafeteria substitute substitute effective immediately. Could I have a motion and second to approve? I'll make

076a motion to accept to approve the resignation of Teresa Barnacle as cafeteria substitute effective immediately. I'll second the motion for you. Any discussion? If not, all those in favor say I. I. Opposed, same sign. Motion passes. Approve the resignation of Karen Zip as part-time cafeteria staff effective the end of the 25-26 school year. Could I have a motion and second to approve? I'll make a motion. I did. I'll second it. Any discussion? If not, all those in favor say I. I. Motion passes. Okay, number 22, approve Karen Zip as as a cafeteria substitute for the 26-27 school year. Could I have a motion and second to approve? I'll make a motion to approve Karen Zip as cafeteria substitute for the 26-27 school year. I'll second that motion. Any discussion? If not, all those in favor

077say I. I. Opposed, same sign. Motion passes. Uh number 23, approve Patricia Umsteadter as full-time cafeteria staff. Could I have a motion and second to approve? >> I'll make the motion we approve Patricia Umsteadter as a full-time cafeteria staff. I'll second. >> [clears throat] >> Any discussion? If not, all those in favor I. >> I. Opposed, same sign. Motion passes. Number 24, approve the resignation of Rachel Buckley as elementary instructional assistant. Could I have a motion and second to approve? I'll make a motion. I'll second it. I think she they're moving, I think is Rachel's I think that's the reason, yeah. >> And Rachel's done a nice job as far as I can tell. I She's been here a couple years. Uh Dr. Apple You did that, yeah? Couple years? >> Yes. Yes. She's done

078a nice job and I want to thank her for that, too, so. All right, I got a motion and second, right? >> We got it. Okay. Any discussion? If not, all those in favor say I. I. Opposed, same sign. Motion passes. Um approve the resignation uh Pamela Toby as special education teacher, grades five through eight. Could I have a motion and second to approve? I'll make a motion to approve the resignation of Pamela Toby. Do I have a second? I'll second it. Any discussion? Yes. Pam Toby, PJ taught for 12 years here in our special ed department and she did a wonderful outstanding job. And um I just want to thank her for doing a great job for our kids. She loves her kids. And uh when you take on this position, when you teach

079school you love your kids. It's why you do it. And uh in her particular field there's a there's a close relationship with her kids that travels with her for the rest of those kids' lives and her life as well. So, thank you, Pam Toby, for teaching special ed at Lanesville Community Schools. I worked with her as a teacher. She was wonderful to work with. We clicked. And uh she worked very hard for her kids, but worked with me to get the things done that she needed for her kids and what I needed for the her kids in my room, okay, which were my kids, too. And I just want to say thank you, PJ, for doing what you do. She's going to teach someplace else and and I wish her all the best from Lanesville

080Community School Corporation. Thank you for being here. Any other comments? I have a motion and second, right? Yep. Okay. Um any any more discussion? If not, all those in favor say I. I. I. Opposed, same sign. Motion passes. Number 26, approve Isaac Casabella as baseball assistant coach. He was approved as a volunteer coach on uh 3/17/2026. Can I have a motion and second to approve? I'll make a motion to approve Isaac Casabella as baseball assistant coach. I'll second it. Any discussion? If not, all those in favor say I. Opposed, same sign. Motion passes. Approve the hiring of Chris Gebhardt as seventh grade boys basketball coach. Can I have a motion and second to approve? I'll make a motion that we approve Chris for seventh grade boys basketball coach Chris Gearhart. I'll second that. Any discussion?

081If not, all those in favor say I. I. Opposed, same sign. Motion passes. Approve an athletic sponsorship package fundraiser. Explain. That is uh what we've done for years and years and years. Depending on the level that is is donated by either an individual or organization, you get a banner or something along those lines for advertisement. Could I have a motion and second to approve? Wait a minute. Is it all sports? Yes. Would you like to play? No, I'm good. I know what you're Motion. I'll second. Sorry. I'm making a motion to approve the athletic sponsorship package fundraiser. I second. I'll second. Any discussion? If not, all those in favor say I. Opposed, same sign. Motion passes. Number 29. Approve the disposal of the following: three filing cabinets and six chairs from maintenance department, two tables,

082two shelves, four filing cabinets, and wooden cabinets from the FFA room. Could I have a motion and second to approve? I know George is cleaning out the building out there. >> It sounds like It's all broken. It's broken stuff and yeah, you know, yeah. I'll make a motion motion to approve the disposal disposal of all those items you just listed. I'll second. Any discussion? On on the inventory listing process, have they raised the dollar threshold? I know it at one point was ridiculously low, and then I think it was allowed to be raised so you didn't have to go through such a hassle of setting up an inventory on every desk and chair is the inventory like a 10 or 15,000 dollar value. I couldn't tell you off top of my head what it is.

083I really couldn't. We've always just gone through this process. Because it's public funds and so we want to make sure that there's public In the old days if it was declared off you declared obsolete and you decided if you were going to sell it auction or if it had no value dispose of. And I know they've raised that threshold somewhat. I'm not concerned with it. I just This is just an informational question. Discussion's ended. Okay, we have much we have You do you called for discussion. >> Okay, any any more discussion? If not all those in favor say aye. Aye. Opposed same sign. Motion passes. Okay, um on the second additional public comments Mary Jo do you have anything else to say? Do you have anything to say on your public comments? Okay. And the

084next is Chan Bailey. >> [clears throat] >> First I'd like to thank you all for giving me the opportunity to come in and speak. I understand this isn't the forum to address most of what I have to say but since it was addressed here I asked if I could readdress the statements that were made so my gracious way of allowed me to do that so I'll try to make it quick. I know I'm at the end and everybody's ready to get out of here so First I'd like to say Miss Condor thank you. I know that you took care of Justin he's still a very finicky eater and you slid him some things that some extra chicken nuggets cuz he didn't eat the other things you and Miss Snyder are always so good to him.

085Thank you for all that. And Mitchell as well he ate anything you gave him so. Um so the last meeting there was discussion on the condition of field one at the Little League. Uh it is by far um it's not in the best shape as the others. The reason that is is because generally they play about one or two games a year down there. We do our best to schedule all the games we can for those boys on the high school field. Working with from Mr. Lambertus, I've scheduled for the last 12 years. From Mr. Lambertus to Zach, we do our best to make sure those boys get to enjoy uh playing on the high school field. I know my boys did. Um in saying that, my boys also played on field one. Um it

086was a more of a uh privilege to get to play on the high school field not to feel entitled. Um we do the best we can do to work around their schedule. Their schedule is first. People come and say, "Well, why can't the middle the school incorporate the middle school program here at the school?" Well, if you add two more middle school boys teams and a middle school girls softball team, a JV team, and a varsity team, it's virtually impossible to get them on one field. And now you've got now you basically have cut ties with the Little League, which there's no ties there. We've always worked with everyone to make sure the girls have priority at the Little League. No matter what happens, if they ever rain out, those girls come first. We cancel

087our games, they get filled for. That's their field. In 2016 or 17, I believe the school donated $40,000 out of a I don't know the correct fund, but it wasn't a gift from the school, but it was from a First Savings Bank thing. I believe Mr. Pete might have had something to do with that. Likely he did. That they asked for a press box and a changing room. And that's what they that money went towards. So, the school has given money for that. Um yeah. But honestly, I I'm glad that I wasn't at the meeting. Cuz I wouldn't have handled it the right way. Give me about a month to think about it cuz I know what goes in down there. I know what those 11 board members and their families, their kids, their wives,

088their parents come down there and do. The coaches that pitch in to help. And we have tournaments down there they were there at 2:00 in the morning getting water off the field and back at 6:00 so they could finish up and get the games going for the tournament we had. Um I'm just a phone call away. All someone had to do was call me. Ask me, "Hey, why is this field look this way?" Like frankly there was some weeds growing on it. It's not ideal. But it's a baseball field. Rain, grass grows. We can't stay on top of it. We got 15 other acres that we're trying to mow, weed eat, keep up with and seven other fields that get used daily. Um so I guess I'm kind of picking up where Mike Sasmore left

089off last meeting talking about purple pride. Go look at Lanesville. All I heard the last meeting was if you go down there and look at field one that's not purple pride. Well, the amount of hours that are put in down there weekly is purple pride. Those people are down there Monday through Friday, sometimes on Saturday if you throw in the hours they coach, work concessions and everything else. There's nothing for the people to put in 20 or 30 hours a week down there. And they do it because it's purple pride. So it's not has nothing to do with we don't care about the middle school boys. Nothing has changed and quite frankly we looked into fixing the field which I could have shared that information if any one of them had asked. It's to put

090the the material on the field that's needed that's $20,000 used $35,000 new. So we can't justify where do we spend the money? That's our priority coming up. It's to get that field ready for those boys. Um but in saying that, they had the the the Excuse me. Seventh [clears throat] grade had 13 games scheduled this year. They had seven at home. Two ended up being played down there. The eighth grade had 14 games scheduled, eight home games, and one ended up being played down there. And I believe that one I'm speaking of they've now moved to the high school field tomorrow night, weather permitting, so they can have their game on the high school field. Um but to to say that to put us in the same sentence as New Washington, Clarksville, Charlestown, Jeff, it's

091not comparable. Those greater Clark schools, they all have turf fields. We're not greater Clark. You know, we're not going to have it. But I did call to get a quote. It's a half a million dollars, roughly, to turf that infield down there on field one. It's not feasible. Not doesn't make sense to do it. Obviously, we're not going to do it. And we're not going to probably turf any of the others. We have turfed some of the home plates to try to make it a little better um for all the kids. Since 2014, there's been almost a half million dollars worth of improvements down there. $479,893.61. And that's attributed to every board member that's passed and all the ones that are there now. They've all worked their tails off down there. So, you get to

092the part where it kind of is more appropriate for me to speak out here. Why does the school adopt it? They don't have a field to play on. We try to do our best down there to accommodate them, and it's generally if there's a misunderstanding, and quite frankly, this last month we've had more questions about it than I've had in 23 years that I've been involved. Everybody knows what goes on, and we do our best to make it happen, and make it work for everyone. Um >> [sighs] >> I'm not a genera- generational Lanesvillian, but I'm proud to be part of Lanesville, a small part. I'm I'm 23 years in here and and it's it's I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. But the division and coming to a school board meeting to speak on

093something that's totally irrelevant to the school when we're just a phone call away. Any of the 11 and other board members would have been more than happy to have taken a phone call to discuss the situation with anyone that wanted to talk about it or any situations that are coming up. We do our best. We We mess up. We learn every year. We've had meetings with parents trying to figure out the best way to handle All-Stars and anything else that that comes up. We don't want issues. We want what's best for the kids. That's our future. I do. Mr. Pete's favorite quote he would always say was two kids are our future. You know? And >> [clears throat] >> I'm not up here on a soapbox looking for a pat on the back for myself

094or for those 11 board members. I just want everybody to know that what goes in down there is more than just one field. We do our best to make sure that they're all taken care of and that one has been neglected and I'll wear that on me for the grass being on the infield because >> [clears throat] >> the company that used to spray our fields doesn't spray the infields anymore. So, I said I'll take care of it. Quite frankly, never got to it. So, that's on me. We have since had a board member spray the field. There's grass is dead, but now it's coming back with all the rain. We'll do the best we can to keep the grass off the infield. Um Cord and South and North, all their middle school programs are

095ran through their youth leagues. So, it's not just Lanesville. We're not trying to hold on to a take anything away from the school. If the school comes to the league down the road and said, "Hey, we're ready to adopt it." I mean, whatever's best for the kids, you know? I'm sure the parents would love being able to their kids to ride a bus to a game to New Washington and not have to have them there by 6:00. So, I'm sure whatever they come up with they'll be more than happy to do. Um but I do want to say on that purple pride thing, there's a few people and companies that have made that $479,000 less than it than it would have been if they hadn't donated. It's Mack Construction. Any Anybody that works for Mack

096Construction in this community, but especially the Caldwells and the Tiers, have done more than people ever would would know about today. Um Rusty Crozier with CNR, Daniel Ware with Ware Brothers, Chip White with Chip's Lawn Service, Mike and Mandy Wolfe who always make sure we don't run out of popcorn, and Nick Nick and Lisa Romeo who have been tremendous. All those people and I know I I didn't want to name anyone cuz I know I forgot somebody and if I did, forgive me. It's not deliberate. But I wanted to name those ones um and tell them how much we appreciate that uh all they've done. But um I'll just leave with this and I I again thank you for your time. What I've learned over my 23 years of being involved in youth sports is

097that those who complain the most volunteer the least. Thank you. Thanks, Jan. And I'll I'll say thank you. Uh Jan, I'll say thank you to what you guys do down there because it's wonderful. I I Here's what I like the best though with T-ball and the gravel thing, it's great. I love it because I have seen more dust and fun. I mean, the kids are having a ball with that. I'm seri- I'm not making a joke. It's It's It's funny because they play in that gravel and it I'm going to tell you what, it's great. So, I'm going to thank you for what you do cuz you know what, we got something coming up. Schedules coming up and you guys are going to be doing what you do again and I'm going to tell I'm

098going to speak for myself. Thanks for what you've done over the years. It's always gone off well and you've done a nice job and I appreciate it. A lot of good people. Yes, you do. You absolutely do. Okay, I don't have any more for the additional public comments. I want to just recap. We had a I was a I was asked to sit in with the high school strategic strategic planning committee. I sat in on my first meeting. It was very enjoyable, nice experience. They talked a lot about some of the things my daughter-in-law brought up about teachers having the freedom, which is is indicative of Lanesville schools, to to think outside the box and do things for our kids. It was neat the way she tied it into the strategies that that Robin talked

099about. One of the things they discussed is the SWOT survey. There were some issues in that that were brought up about the high school administration that were somewhat critical, but they took it constructively and it was a great collaborative effort and I want to see more of that in the school corporation. Okay, number 31, German. I need a motion and a second. I'll make a motion that we adjourn. Second. I'll second it. Any more discussion? If not, all those in favor say aye. Aye. Opposed, same sign. Motion passes.
