001[Music] thank you [Music] happy birthday [Music] thank you [Music] let's see [Music] let's see [Music] thank you [Music] let's see [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] everything [Music] thank you [Music] thank you [Music] let's see [Music] foreign [Music] thank you [Music] let's see [Music] foreign [Music] foreign thank you [Music] let's see [Music] thank you [Music] foreign like to call this meeting to order welcome to the school City of Hammond Thursday September 29 2022 Public Work session if we could all stand and recite the Pledge of Allegiance allegiance of the United States [Music] thank you roll call trustee Miller president trustee Candelaria president trustee Blake King we're here trustee Murphy president and trustee solo also present all five accounted for superintendent Miller good evening tonight we have a public work session and I do like to
002explain to anyone watching that there's no voting there's no voting that occurs during a public work session these are purely opportunities for administration to present information to the board so that they can take it in so there'll be no voting tonight we have a couple topics tonight Dr ship is going to present our plan for how we're going to handle Student Success and student challenges in the school year and then we're going to move directly into our school Improvement plan presentations you can't see it yet but we have every principle represented here in the audience from our yes 18 different schools shout out to team Elementary who all have the same t-shirts on so love that unity love seeing that spirit and a real school Improvement plan is a very long document that has a
003lot of technicality in it so what you're going to see tonight is a summary of that plan highlighting how each building is addressing the district challenges and goals and what they have chosen to tackle as a challenge or a goal for this upcoming school year so the the presentation should all be in the same format and like we've done in the past years I would ask if if the trustees can just take notes and submit to questions to my office afterwards because we'll keep this moving because it's already going to probably be a two and a half hour meeting at least if everything just goes as smooth as possible so to prevent it from being a four-hour meeting if we could do that and I will I will in short order get those questions to
004the appropriate principles and get you official replies from each school after that time so I think that explains it all and I will go ahead and turn it over chip are you ready all right so I'd like to introduce Dr Cassandra Shipp our assistant superintendent of academics good evening to president zuno Board of Trustees superintendent Miller tonight you will hear an overview from each School principal how they will support the district goals the district goal number one is by Spring of 2023 we will see a 50 decrease in the number of community complaints related to culturally and sensitive practices as measured by school Studio Hammond complaint process documentation as of to date School City of Hammond this past school year had a total of 32 complaints building level professional development took place at each school
005there was also a book study that our administrators could participate in we also had the bridge to better Conference in October of 20 1 and the cultural competency sessions at our school City of Hammond professional development week that was held in the summer our Dei champion held sessions to address that so that was the way at the district level we wanted to continue to support the decrease in complaints from our community and our parents go to by the spring of 2023 100 of the schools will Implement an effective mtss model to meet students academic behavioral and SEL needs as evidenced by documentation of committee meetings and student data at the district level um this past year all schools have established the mtss team that process started in October of 2021 and it ended in March
006of 2022 all building principals attended an mtss training that was set up by our mtss coordinator we also established and hired for every building student support specialist which you have heard SSS several times uh we also have an academic support uh district meeting that's held with the SSI I'm sorry the student support specialists and every week the administrators receive a Weekly Newsletter uh that's emailed it's usually emailed over the weekend so when they come in on Monday they see all the different supports tips that they can use in their building that all was done in 2021 2022. go three by the spring of 2023 we will see a 10 increase in our students growth and proficiency levels in ela and math state level academics this is data that has been shared with you for the
007past few meetings we've held so I won't go over those again so you had a overview of iLearn data from Mr Adam White this one is the math again this was information that was shared in previous uh work sessions and I will not go over that again he also talked about the iready data from the past year are not students performance as you know we just closed our window uh with our students and we'll be preparing data for you pretty soon on that for anybody watching can you explain real quick the difference between iLearn and I read yeah there's a lot of tests on here I learned data as our state assessment so that's something we are required to take by the Department of Education and iready is a local assessment we take to see
008where our students are for reading and Mathematics and that is to help our teachers know where our students are ready to receive instruction and and if they are at grade level it has lessons in it to help them and if the students are not at grade level it provides resources and tips on how to help close that Gap hmm again this is our I read data this is shared this is our past data for our third graders who are now fourth graders and some might be fifth graders I am is again a state um assessment and as for our students that our special needs that will not take part in the iLearn State assessment again this is information that we share with you previously and this is the ISTEP plus again this is another state
009assessment for our high school students and these other students that were retesters this information was also shared with you in a previous board meeting our goal for school each school will share their goal for action steps so in this goal for you will see the uniqueness from each School of the goal they selected and the building level action steps that they would do to achieve that goal again Mr Miller went over um that all questions can be emailed to him and he will email email those out to the principals each presentation should take about five minutes from each building leader as you see the order of the schools all elementary will go in Alpha order then middle school then high school and then Area Career Center first up is Birds Hicks Elementary School Miss latara
010Smith [Applause] good evening superintendent Miller I'm Board of Trustees my name is latara Smith I am the principal Burns Hicks Elementary School where Tierra Redman and Marilyn Hampton are our assistant principals I'm here tonight to present to you our 22 22 23 School Improvement plan as you can see on the first slide uh before you is our two-year data demographics you can see from last year to you to until this year um we have a decline of approximately 50 students um when you go to our gender population um we've held pretty steady between our percentages between male and female students I thought that it was kind of ironic that the percentages have switched throughout the years from the 51 to the 49 um our largest ethnicity population is our African-American and black population which is
011at 66 percent this year followed by our Hispanic population at 29 once again um our demographics seem to Hold Steady throughout the years moving on to our exceptional Learners and special education students we've seen a decline from 10 to 4 and we attribute that largely to our sixth graders where our largest population of special needs students last year and they've transitioned to Middle School our English language Learners um it's up by 13 this year we have seen a decrease in our quali our free and reduced lunch population and as a tribute to we think that a lot of our parents did not take opportunity of completing our friend reduced lunch our textbooks application we know that's something despite us getting the word out um last year we had a better success of getting them to
012complete that so we know we're going to continue to do that for next year as well um you'll see our two-year data our Mobility rate for our data demographics um the seven um 0.65 we see that that's holding um steady from previous years 11 it was increased last year and we think that that was contributed to the pandemic and a lot of um families moving in and out of the community um based on their needs moving on to our district goals um for the first goal of uh decreasing uh the number of community complaints by 50 our building level action steps are to do a book study as a whole staff um it will be the book of cultural responsive teaching and the Brain by zoretta Hammonds and we also plan to maintain an inclusive
013curriculum that remains respectful to similarities and differences by using a diverse range of resources for our students and we also planned we're really excited to use the feedback from our our Equity audit I have upcoming there but we actually had ours this past week so we're waiting to get um the feedback from that moving on to the second goal of uh having 100 of our schools Implement mtss our building level action steps are that our MTS team will meet twice a month to discuss interventions and supports that we offer to our students I'm our second action step is that we are very fortunate to have a student support specialist in our building she meets with daily with students for lunch bunches small groups and individually for social emotional learning support we've also Incorporated social stories
014and talking circles for conflict resolutions those have been really successful especially at our intermediate levels our fifth and sixth graders we were able to add character strong curriculum to um our building this year which is used daily in our classrooms and that's also for that SEL support and Care develop character development we have a sixth grade leadership team um the Bulldog boosters but we may change that after we get some input from our students this year but that's been successful and they will also be um pure peer tutors for some of our Primary students we'll also use the mtss tiers of interventions outlined in our code of conduct on the next slide you'll see our two-year data goal for goal number three um this is our data from our iLearn assessments on the bottom table
015gives you the overall proficiency rate for each of those areas Ela and math okay for the third goal our action steps um it's broken down between Ela and math for ELA we plan to have literacy professional development for our teachers with the district instructional coach and that started this past month we also have heckerty curriculum available for our kindergarten through third grade students we're fortunate to have a third grade transitional classroom with targeted instruction this year that's to help our students especially as they prepare for the I read assessment this year we also have two RTI parents who work with select second third and fourth grade students um providing intervention for them in reading and I already learning paths encouraged for at least 30 to 45 minutes per week for math we have a building-wide
016focus on fact fluency our teachers are using Envision Quick Check success and to differentiate their instruction within the classroom and also once again we're encouraging that iready usage every week um this next slide is our goal for um and this is our building level goal and and we consistently strive to have that average of 95 attendance and we've been struggling the last couple years where we're moving um close to closing that Gap there so our action steps in order to achieve this goal is to adhere to the to exclusive ham and attendance policy and also during those daily and weekly outreaches to our families from our attendance team we're also providing resources to our family systems with the barriers you're in in um communication with our mckinney-ventil coordinator from the district as well as the
017north Township Trustee and other um resources that we can provide to our families we also have our school-wide PBIS which includes incentives for our classrooms our students and our families and we were very proud to have a glad to see you campaign where we welcome our students to the building each day all of our class our staff members are on board and recognizing that our students at our school we let them know that we're happy to see them and I think that's it I'm clicking over here thank you have a great evening thank you very much [Applause] no that's not I can tell some jokes while we wait okay [Music] is there anything on the back of the shirt just on the front I didn't miss the back there your hair's in the way sorry
018all right all right awesome awesome I caught just a glitch of it as she walked away and I was like wait I think there's something on the back too those are awesome yay [Music] perfect we just wanted to stand out a little bit good evening superintendent Miller presidents will know uh trustees uh it is my privilege to present Edison school Improvement plan my name is amyos I am the principal at Edison Elementary my assistant principal is Stephanie kovacic so you'll see our two-year demographics here you'll notice a slight increase in the total number of students from two years ago until last year I did want to highlight our ell our ell population and our special needs population as they are above that 10 percent um so we do have a high population of both special
019needs students and ell students our two-year demographics for transgnc um from two years ago there has been a decrease we went from six percent to 4.9 percent which is always our goal we want our Edison students with us from kindergarten all the way up until sixth grade so we're excited to see that and focused on goal one which is the community complaints Edison didn't have any formal complaints last year however we do hear concerns from our parents um we do want to be proactive in addressing those things so we have two strategies that we are implementing this year the first is to really focus on that front office staff and pulling them in for monthly meetings to one address um parent check-ins with them our parents communicate with the front office quite frequently they are
020the first line when our parents come in and they hear a lot from our parents so looking at trends that they're hearing from our parents is going to be important and then also providing them with professional development geared towards customer service skills is going to be helpful as well the second focus is engaging our families we feel like when we engage our families in the educational process we are less likely to have concerns brought to our attention we're going to do that in a variety of ways including coffee and conversation with the principal both in English and Spanish with the help of our ldp team we're also having a partnership with Purdue they're willing to come in and provide Spanish 101 for Willing staff which we're pretty excited about and then Outreach to our families
021to get them in volunteering in our building our second goal is focused on mtss so we are doing monthly mcss meetings to address concerns with students we're pulling in our school psych our office manager who's focused on attendance we're looking at behavior and things of that nature and then in addition to this we're adding two new programs to our PBIS so we have a support our students initiative to pair students with higher needs with a trusted adult in the building and then in addition to that we also have a student mentorship opportunity for our sixth grade students to really focus on building their leadership capacity as well this is our two-year uh data from um iLearn so we knew that kovid was going to have an impact on the academics I did want to highlight
022however the areas in green which is from last year we've seen an increase in our cohort data and our grade level data in every single grade level so we are moving forward and we are hoping that we can start to close that Gap this year as well our goal three is a 10 increase in growth and proficiency on Ela and math to address that at Edison we're really going to focus on professional development for our staff and doing a better job of differentiating that for them so in K2 we're going to focus on building teacher capacity with science of reading and three through six we're going to focus on data um on the uh standards and essential need we're going to focus on common assessments for them in addition to that we also see a
023need to address vocab so the common vocab in kindergarten through sixth grade is a need in my building so we are going to have an Ela Cadre and a math Padre with staff on there to come up with common vocab some sometimes you'll see one teacher may use the term um borrowing and another teacher may use the term regrouping and we need all of our teachers using the term regrouping so that our students aren't confused on those State assessments and last year uh the past two years actually our goal was centered around attendance um to see a seven percent decrease in the amount of students missing 10 or more days we did hit that goal last year um by decreasing it by 22 percent um in looking at our I ready data there was a
024glaring need to make an adjustment to our goal in looking at our third grade cohort we feel like they were most impacted by coven they're the group that missed all of those foundational skills both behaviorally academically um and so we really felt a need to address that within our building we had 99 third grade students of those 99 49 of them fell two or more grade levels uh below of the 99 we had 66 students who were two or more grade levels below in phonics which was scary when we know that students who are not reading proficiently at the end of third grade are more likely to drop out and they're more likely to not be successful in reading for the rest of their life so to address that we came up with four specific
025things we wanted to pull in parent support as well the first thing is that all of my third grade teachers have started remediation with the students immediately it's geared on Phonics so they have already started meeting with our students all four of them agreed to do it which is incredible and they are meeting with students twice weekly for an hour in addition to that we are pulling in parents of those students and we are going to hold three parent meetings where we are teaching parents how to help their students at home with phonics in addition to that we have an instructional coach who is co-teaching in one of the classrooms with the highest needs and we are also in consultation with our speech path because we see a huge issue with the speech as a
026result of our kids were listening to letters and sounds through a mask so there's some confusion with each articulation with a lot of our third grade students as well so that's our plan for this year thank you thank you [Applause] good evening superintendent Miller president zulno and School Board of Trustees my name is Regina grohart I'm the principal at Franklin Elementary and Kate Osan is our assistant principal tonight I'll be sharing what Franklin is doing for our school Improvement plan so looking at our data we notice that we do have a shift in Trends while we're still predominantly Hispanic we did notice that we are having a decrease in our Hispanic population and an increase in our black and African-American population in addition we have almost doubled in special education students and when you look
027at our special education students and ldp students combined this accounts for almost one quarter of our students um so looking at our Mobility rate we have actually had an increase in Mobility from 20 21 to 21 22 a four percent increase and we attribute this to our close proximity to The Whiting School System for goal number one for supporting the district and decreasing the number of community complaints at Franklin we are having ongoing professional development last year we had several professional development sessions with our Dei champion and this year we are going to be a doing a school-wide book study so not just the teachers but AIDS cafeteria custodians everybody will be included with a book titled culturally responsive education in the classroom and Equity framework for pedagogy we're also incorporating restorative practices with students
028staff and parents we saw this we did this last year some uh when we had some issues with parents students things like that we brought them in and actually did restorative circles with them and it was very effective um we even had cases where we brought in HPD safety officers because we had some issues with fights and things happening after school and we were able to see a decrease after that because we were able to bring everybody together and just kind of talk it out and figure out what the root problem was and help them solve it for goal number two for implementing effective mtss We are continuing professional development with mtss coordinator we are having professional development with either Innovations or learning or threshold learning we're still kind of working out those details but
029both of those companies specialize in helping train teachers for more strategies with our students with special needs we've had a drastic increase and are looking for that support so we're going to be putting that in place for our teachers and staff we also have monthly mtss meetings to discuss our students academic behavior and SEL needs during those meetings we look at what's taking place during morning meeting to address those social emotional needs interventions that are taking place in the classroom we have mentors for a lot of our students that are having some of those Behavioral or attendance issues and community supports for our families to help assist them at home outside of the school looking at goal three at our iLearn data for ELA and math if you look at the last chart that's our
030overall proficiency rate we are increasing our proficiency rate it's just not quite at 10 yet but we're heading in the right direction so you can see an Ela from the 20 20 21 to last year we had an increase of almost four percent in math we had an increase of two percent and for both passing Ela and math it was almost four percent so while we're headed in the right direction not quite there yet so in order to support this and continue to improve teachers are implementing 30 minutes of small group focused instruction daily so they're using their iready data and what they're seeing in the classroom to essentially build an RTI within the school day so they're meeting with small groups in the classroom focused on the exact skills that those kids need while
031other students are working on i-Ready and the skills that they need we are also using the Hagerty program for phonics with our primary grades and using it as RTI support for the older grades as needed Franklin's goal four focuses on decreasing the number of physical aggression disciplinary infractions so if you look at our data keep in mind this goal was written before covid so we had no idea that this is where it was going to lead us however as you can see for last year we had zero so that looks great that we had nobody being two years ago oh two years sorry um so we um didn't have anybody with infractions but keeping in mind we were only in school April through June and there was only a fraction of the students that came
032back so that's why in parentheses underneath when we initially made this goal there was 38 disciplinary infractions and that was the highest group out of all the disciplinary infractions in our system then last year we also had the addition of sixth grade so the initial data was grades K through five so that's why it's broken down differently on the right hand side so K through five there was 34 6th grade is three for a total of 37. so we attribute this to last year was the first year they were fully in school so they were readjusting to school and getting used to being around peers and things again so we're not entirely surprised that there wasn't a big change in that but we are hopeful for this year because at Franklin what we have done
033is we are adjusting Staffing in multiple grade levels so that's already taken place continuing to implement restorative practices we really want to get to the root of the problem of why these behaviors are happening so we can change the behavior just giving a consequence isn't going to change it so we need to figure out the why behind it and help those students out we also are one of the only schools that has a licensed counselor in elementary she was hired before the student sports specialist position came about so she is also our student support specialist but she was in place through the Lilly Grant prior to that so she is helping us support students and families with those chronic behaviors and we are continuing to work on professional development for staff on de-escalation techniques for
034when our students are having some of those big emotions and that's it for Franklin thank you thank you thank you I like the tie Ray [Music] um good evening School City Administration superintendent Miller director Salinas the school City Board and my wonderful ADM colleagues behind me okay um first I'd like to publicly thank you Miss Garrison our wonderful AP she's the best in the business also our unending support from our teacher leaders Sam Thomas and Rena Horgan also School leadership within the building and our great all-around Harding staff so this is a quick shot of our demographics from past years and I'm putting it through to this year we had enrollment decreased in 2021 but it climbed up again back after covid we have a very high minority population very high free and reduced population
035and special ed as well so our current demographics are 689 students African-American students are 33 percent Hispanic students are 42 percent multiracial nine percent our white students are 16 with the mobility rate of about 5 percent uh we have a high number of students families of color and we have free and reduced number which was 70 a couple weeks ago and it's probably Higher by this point and a very again High special ed population and our El population there's our transients rate about 5.1 percent okay goal number one um so we are trying to reduce our cultural and sensitive practices our first action step is to continue staff cultural conversations cultural awareness and connections with my staff and with our families we want to continue connecting you'll hear that a lot tonight I I did
036that last year as well it's still very important to me we want to continue also parent and staff cultural conversations we've had coffee and conversations with our family facilitator and our SSS person which is our student support specialist we want to strengthen relationships in our community we had 21 parents show up at our first meeting which is fantastic live 21 live parents it's just a really good way to start the year but since we have a population of of 84 percent of families of color and students of color it's significant because we have a very large white staff population and it's important to continue to connect and remind us that we have to connect with our students and families all year long that's very important to me our second goal is focused on the mtss
037practices and our first action step is to continue our daily morning meetings we have to continue to connect with kids every single day we have to discuss issues set goals and growth mindset today I watched the kindergarten class just listen to each other and connect with each other and it's a great way to start the day our second action step is talking about discussing and implementing what we call restorative practices that's where we build and maintain and when needed we repair our relationships with adults and children and it's very important for children to see adults doing that our third goal and here's here's our I learned data you can see that uh we uh increased significantly in a lot of ways we can look at every column on the right side in 2122 and see
038that it really increased a lot in fact our scores are the highest in in Hammond for the math and the reading so I'm very proud of my staff we still have ways to go but we know that we're on the right track our okay our third goal of course is to increase our iLearn uh testing scores we want to research and use science of reading and science of reading activities this year it starts with the phonemic awareness which you first saw my colleagues discussed we've already implemented K1 and 2 hegarty phonemic awareness um daily practice and we want that to continue and support that in the upper grades as well we also want to analyze our class math data and reading data research differentiated small group work and Implement stronger remediation and enrichment work k-6
039we have a Grade Three sentencinal teacher this year with our ldp background he's helping us transition this year welcoming supportive and emphasizing growth mindset it's a really great way to start the year okay here's our fourth goal last two years our our goal is parent engagement and we kind of Switched our Focus to attendance because we felt that the last two years you can see that our attendance has dropped we went uh we were 83 percent two years ago and we actually dropped the 76 percent this last year we had a lot of kids that missed five days at a time because of covet it just really hit us very hard in our building we still feel like we need to connect with our kids and our families but now we need to connect with
040them to help them so they can be in school more our school support specialist did this last year in a very small scale and helped those groups that she worked with so here's how we're going to do that we started by forming an attendance team our attendance team is talking with each other looking at data analyzing that data um with with the tenants and tardies and absences and communicating with families more consistently this is something that we're trying to do better if we don't communicate with our families well and actually reach out to them and actually talk to them it's going to make it very difficult but our school support specialist showed us last year that when she did that with the classrooms and kids she was working with and the families they really wanted
041to come to school and the families did everything they could to do that so that's part of our plan we're also going to keep working with those families setting goals setting some incentives and helping students improve attendance once part of the staff will focus on absences part will focus on charities so with all of our efforts this year we are continuing to build relationships first connect with students and families and Harding is moving the needle with our goals and our growth thank you very much thank you thanks Ray [Applause] good evening superintendent Miller we pulled us down raised really tall good morning or good evening superintendent Miller president zoldo and Board of Trustees I am Katie pienta I am the principal of Joseph Hess Elementary and my assistant principal is Steve Grimm okay you're gonna
042have to use the clicker clicker thank you looking at our demographic remained roughly roughly last year we had 708 students this year we have 698. looking at our demographics we have roughly 39 of our population black or African-American 41 Hispanic or Latino 13 white 7 multi-racial um looking at our English language Learners we have roughly seven percent our um special education population at roughly 13 percent and an increase in our free or reduced students at 65 percent this is our transgnc data you can see that we increased slightly in this area for goal number one with um a decrease in the number of community complaints we are looking to do a 24-hour response turnaround when we are communicating with parents that reach out to us we want to make sure that we are communicating with
043them in a timely manner to make sure that their concerns are are heard we are also having monthly stakeholder discussions and so we are combining these meetings together so that's a combination of our PTA our family facilitators and also our administrative meetings so that way we decrease the number of times that we're trying to ask parents to come into the building in hopes to get more people out at each meeting we're also going to give our stakeholders an opportunity to share so it's not just an informational meeting they can also Express concerns share ideas that they have and ask questions we also have an opportunity for anonymous reporting and this is through the district stop it app where parents and students they can download this this app and they can actually report to us anonymously
044um any issues of bullying or other areas of concern for our goal number two for mtss our student support specialist is joining us for our data driven discussions this is a monthly at those meetings we discuss our Behavior data and we discuss possible solutions for those things we're also looking to do more Community Partnerships so we have partnered with a local church to do a mini up program where they come into our school and they're volunteering to work with our kindergarten students so we're really excited to get that started um also we have a partnership with crown counseling so we have a counselor that is in our building several days throughout the week and can meet with our students our PTA is booming so we are excited about that we just had a PTA meeting
045this past week where we had local law enforcement come to that meeting as well and they passed out information and gave away things to the kids and then also talked about some things that are of concern to our building in particular like social media this is our iLearn data um as you can see over the course of the past two years we have made some gains we're really excited um as you can see at third grade in math we have already surpassed that 10 goal same thing in fourth grade math and fifth grade reading and then if you're looking at those overall totals we've also suppressed that in math for the overall totals as well so we're really excited about that but we know that we still have work to do to get those proficiency
046levels up so in order to do that um we have an RTI interventionist we're also going to make her our instructional coach with that we're going to also be able to hire an additional an additional RTI para professional um so we're excited about that we're going to use our iready standards Mastery data points as a common assessment to discuss at our data meetings and we're going to do focused weekly walk-throughs in our classrooms for goal number four um we were looking at our discipline especially our out of school suspensions we want to get that number down as you can see for uh 2020 2021 that was um covid year and our students were out the majority of the year with less than 50 of our students returning that year to in person so we do
047not have any infractions from that year last year we had a total of 59 students who received an out of school suspension and of course we plan to lower that um this year so how we plan to do that is through uh the use of the character strong curriculum we do that in our morning meetings daily we're also going to bring back our PBIS assemblies we're really excited for that um we're going to do data sharing through our plc's parent and student surveys so that way we can Garner their feedback as well um to see how they would like for us to improve and we're going to incorporate restorative practices as well thank you so much thank you thanks baby mm-hmm good evening good evening president zul now Mr Miller Board of Trustees good evening
048buenas noches I am Sarah Kyler the proud Panther principal of Irving Elementary School also in my administrative team is Mr David Alvarado and Mrs Jennifer Meyer as you can see our current enrollment at Irving has dropped by about 30 students which makes sense because last year we had five sections of sixth graders that have now moved on to the Middle School our largest subpopulation is our Hispanic or Latino demographic making up 65 percent of our student body this is followed by our black or African-American demographic equaling 20 percent of our students 23 percent or 167 students at Irving are English language learners additionally not represented in this data but I wanted to share that we have 243 students that are now enrolled in our dual language immersion program at Irving in grades Kinder through fourth
049grade that equals 48 of students in those grades and 33 of our overall student body and we're currently at a waiting list for Kindergarten [Applause] for goal number one some of our action steps to see a decrease in the number of community complaints is similar my colleagues we focused on our front office staff so we hired a full-time bilingual family facilitator and we increased the bilingual staff representation in the main office as well we are also planning a cultural competency professional development for first semester we're working on a diversity and inclusion parent survey that will go out in October and we have big plans for April which is celebrate diversity month for goal number two implementing an effective mtss system our action steps are that we have established that Committee of building stakeholders we do
050hold monthly meetings with data specific agendas and that documentation really highlights individual student needs and supports you can see our I learned data here that there is an increase in the cohort and grade level data similar again to my colleagues um some things that we're doing to reach that 10 increase in student growth is we are having professional development that focuses on differentiation and small group instruction we've adjusted our instructional box during the day to allow for targeted vocabulary instruction phonics and phonemic awareness as well as dedicated time to math fact fluency Additionally the administrative team is working hard on progress monitoring for instructional expectations okay Sarah can you just just fine for anybody watching what differentiation really means it sounds like an education word absolutely differentiation is making is making for our different levels
051of learners is that a district-wide district we an issue I I would just say that it's a district-wide expectation that we differentiate in every every explain it again please so I said we're targeting extraction for our different levels of Learners it's also for our students that learn in different ways mm-hmm for goal number four we are focusing on an increase in our attendance percentage to reach 95 percent in 2021 the number of students we had that missed 10 or more of the school year was 192 students and we averaged 91 in our attendance rate in 2122 the number of students who missed 10 or more decreased to 71 however our attendance percentage overall um moved to 89 because we had a lot of students missing those five days for cobit like my colleague also mentioned
052this year we're trending at 92 percent which means we're on the upward swing and we're going to continue going upward with the following action steps we've identified that Target group that missed 10 or more last year once we remove the withdrawn students that 61 students and we're having meetings with those parents um to be proactive at the beginning of this year additionally once a student reaches five seven or ten unexcused absences we have action steps that we take in the front office quarterly during the school year we provide education to parents via parent Square on attendance matters and we also have recognitions and incentives for students with good attendance and that's how we're doing at Irving thank you thank you [Applause] good evening oh gosh she's taller than I am again I'm Dr Eisman principal
053at Jefferson Elementary School and I have Marlisa Wright is our assistant to the principal am I doing this right oh it is good no it's not the wrong way at the wrong way yep there we go all right so our two-year demographic data is to help pretty um stable however we have had a slight decrease in our students this year down from 470 but our ethnicity and racial balance seems to be just about the same with our highest population being Hispanic or Latino also our number of exceptional Learners has stayed just about the same but our free reduced lunch rate went up a little bit with the 64 percent although I want to Echo what some of my colleagues had said I don't think that a lot of parents are filling out those forms um
054like they used to in the past so just getting on that a little bit more to get that that accurate data for free and reduced lunch for us our goal for number one by the spring of 2023 we've had all of our students have been trained in professional development on cultural cultural competence equity and social justice we have dedicated time in each one of our staff meetings we have staff meetings each month and we have a professional development each month we have dedicated time that's just specifically on addressing those issues and so as new faculty come on we'll continue to train and onboard them in restorative circles and restorative practices and our communication with families will still be provided in the language that are native to our families including ASL for our students that have
055parents who are deaf or hard of hearing for our goal two for our Jefferson mtss team consists of our school psychologist we have a certified trained interventionist who does our interventions and so we have developed a specific data way of looking at our iready data so when we sit down at our grade level team meetings twice each month we actually look at individual students and brainstorm ideas on how we're going to address those specific needs special deal students that are three grade levels below and so as you'll see in the next couple slides our fourth grade last year took a kind of a dip and I learned and so I'm really targeting personally those parents in fifth grade so for our goal three um raising our 10 increase which we did uh classroom teachers are
056continue to implement structured data meetings and looking at that iready Diagnostic and we'll start to look at that standards Mastery we also departmentalized in fifth and sixth grade and my fifth grade teachers looped up to my sixth grade which was really helpful not only with the teachers knowing the academic needs of the sixth graders but also in understanding what those kids need socially and so our behaviors have um our sixth graders are real leaders this year they're doing a great job so as you can see our two-year data for goal three we did make that ten percent increase um we'd have a long way to go we understand that but um at least we're moving in the right direction so our goal for we're going to be working with a to z in the past
057two years this is the end of our three-year sip plan the past two years the goal was to reach 100 on the family-friendly survey of parents stating that we understand what they need and so this year we're going to work with a to z and I'd like to get back to how we were pre-covered of having coffee and conversations I mean I'm out there in the mornings greeting all the students and talking to the parents and at the end of the day but just opening those doors and so we've sent out volunteer letters for people to come in and we have bins in each one of the classrooms for just easy volunteer things so if the teachers want to take that and hand that to a parent that just wants to come in and help
058we've got that all ready for them and then some data keeping and that's all I have thank you very much thank you [Applause] they had friendly family schools designation is one of the things you know we hired A to Z to investigate the parent and um interaction that I challenge them could be deliverable as a result of that work that we could have all of our schools meet the rubric criteria to be family friendly schools good evening superintendent Miller Board of Trustees my name is Mary Reichel I'm the proud president president I don't need that responsibility I'll be the principal of Kenwood Elementary School my assistant principal is Kate Osan okay as you can see we have our two-year dated for our demographics and while our demographics had ruined relatively unchanged we did have a
059slight drop in enrollment and like you've heard many of my colleagues say we did have a slight increase in our families who have applied for that free reduced priced meal we are still challenged with making our families aware of that that they still can apply for that and hopefully to get some accurate data on our free and reduced so in an area where we have seen quite a significant is our Mobility rate two years ago we had a six percent Mobility rate and you can see last year we had a 17 which is a significant increase for us for goal number one in order to help decrease the number of community complaints um Kenwood staff has made it a priority to make the phone calls for every one of our students within the first few
060weeks of school so each of our families have received a positive phone call from the teachers and that's to help us set the tone for the school year to let our parents and our families know that we are there for them to support them and it opens a line of communication for us we're also going to be utilizing characters strong as part of our SEL curriculum during our morning meeting Maybe hmm okay we're back on track Maybe maybe not fermented back for you no it's not working we should be on goal number two there we go okay goal number two is focusing on our mtss and at Kenwood we are going to um participate in an ongoing ntss professional development with our coordinator our team at Kenwood is also going to participate in monthly mtss
061meetings which includes our Administration our student support Specialists our RTI professional and our grade level teams and during these meetings we're going to meet monthly to review and discuss data relating to academic behavior and SEL needs there we go all right on this side you can see our two-year iLearn data and I'm proud to say that even with a significant increase in our Mobility rate we've seen growth in our Ireland scores for goal number three in order to continue this growth teachers at Kenwood are going to provide a minimum of 30 minutes of small group instruction tailored to our students needs daily we're going to use iready performance checks to be our progress monitoring for that we are also looking to hire an additional RTI aid for our building in order to help better prepare
062and to um adjust for our students who are performing below grade level dancing hmm hold up I'm sorry okay for goal number four um for Kenwood is to achieve that 95 attendance rate one more slide before that if you wouldn't mind back so this is our two-year data you'll notice in um two years ago our attendance rate was in 96 but I think it's important to notice that um this was a time of we were virtual and attendance was taken a little differently during this time um students had to just log into our Google meet or submit one piece of work in order to be considered as in attendance so that was a little different for taking attendance and then last year um we did drop to 90 however I'd like you to notice that
06310 of those absence that we had were due to covid and then we had an additional seven percent that were due to some significant medical needs that some of our students had during that time so for us to in order to um address that 95 attendance rate our office staff is daily making phone calls to students who are absent thank you we are going to be utilizing interventions based on the code of conduct the attendance policy adopted by school City this year we're also going to do perfect attendance awards for our students quarterly and we also have attendance initiatives based on kind of competitions friendly competitions within our school so this the classroom who has the most or the highest attendance excuse me will be receiving rewards weekly for them and I'd also like to
064say in the past two years have been pretty difficult for all of us but I'm incredibly proud of our staff and our students for the progress they've made and that we will make this year thank you thank you [Applause] good evening president zono superintendent Miller Board of Trustees I am Jackie Ruiz principal of Lincoln Elementary School my assistant is Jessica Silverthorne and I am here to present Lincoln's School Improvement plan as you can see here in our data technographics we pretty much stay the same from last year so if you go across the board we have the number the 553 students and this year 552 we also have the 68 Latino Hispanic students in in population and we also have 20 percent of English language learners we have our goal number one in order to
065do the um you know for the district goal of decreasing the number of community complaints uh we're going to do a couple of things uh first of all just like the other my other colleagues have said we're going to do positive notes and phone calls weekly we are going to build relationships and continue building them with our families uh specifically with some of our students that were with us last year and now have gone to the next school and so we still have students in our building and with others in like the Hammond Central and Eggers or Scott Middle School and so they we want to connect and we want to still continue to build those relationships and get to know them just by just by name we are also creating robust classroom libraries with
066books that are specifically targeted for cultural backgrounds and still sharing with all of us our backgrounds and how unique we are to and as individuals for goal number two with the implementing of mtss again many you have already heard this from my colleagues but we're using that character strong program we are applying those lessons learned in school every day we're also making sure that our small groups are being implemented so that our students can build healthy friendships and we are constantly monitoring interventions for students to make sure that they are thriving and not just thriving for Learning and being active learners here's our data for the ELA and math as you can see we are going in the right direction we are growing you know we're moving forward and um and as you can see
067overall we have you know some areas where we still need to work on but in overall we're heading in the right direction so what are we going to do about that using that that data that we have we are going to use the win time the what I need time specifically and strategically for the students to make sure that they're getting those interventions that they need in the ELA and math and we're also trying to connect subjects such as science and social studies to try to connect and make those uh curriculum and make it robust and making that the skills go together and so that they can problem solve and they can think so we're trying to make the connections happen with all of these subject matters not just focusing on just Ela and math
068so for our goal at Lincoln we just want to communicate with parents you know last year we just said you know what we need us to start communicating and what's our form you know the format well it's parent square and so we just want to make sure that all of our parents are on that and so that was the goal for last year and it continues to be the goal for this year so we like to get them all to be on that parent square and what we noticed is that sometimes we try to log on and do things with their phone but they have to go on a computer a laptop or a Chromebook and we try to explain that to them and so we're trying to make those connections for them so that
069they can truly be using parent Square in order to be communicating with us and so what are we doing well we're analyzing the data you know we're looking at at the parents what they're using we're looking if they're looking at email or if they're using the app or if they're texting you have to remember that all parents prefer to communicate in a certain way and some of our younger parents that we have they will go right to the app and they don't really want to look at the email but they'll communicate with you that way so we're looking at all of that and making sure that we understand what our demographics are and then parents that are not using the parent Square we're offering training sessions and we're having them come in so that they
070can understand how it is so efficient and Easy in order to communicate with us so that way we're always on the same page and we're not in in different directions thank you for your time thank you good evening superintendent Miller and trustees my name is Alan walzek I'm the principal at Morton Elementary School and I am very pleased to also announce that I have David fazzini our rock star assistant principal there you go sorry that was very close to the Macarena I think though all right um so if you um look back or look look across our uh our demographic data there's not a whole lot of change except for two areas I want to highlight I want to highlight um our exceptional special education population we did have a large decrease in that area
071and that's mostly due to the matriculation of students to the middle school as well as some transuncy as well the other area I'd like to highlight would be um our um free and reduced uh meals as well the students that qualify there's a there's a large uh discrepancy there and we feel that that's also as my colleagues have said before the fact that the parents are not filling out the documents um so that's something we need to do a better job of keeping track of um you can see here that our transgiency rate is relatively stable roughly a percent difference between the two years so we're addressing the first goal which would be the um the complaint goal that's a district goal the way that we're doing that is we are having our SEL lessons
072implemented in the classrooms to ensure open lines of communication and build relationships between the students and the teachers we're utilizing character strong we have our student support Specialists that assists with implementation of that particular program she does a wonderful job she's already trained our staff and we've had several meetings kind of reiterating the importance and also how to use that curriculum our building was one of the top three in participation for the unconscious bias training so shout out to my staff members for that um and then one other thing that uh I do personally I'm out front every day rain or shine greeting students opening car doors and greeting my parents so I want to be visible to the community and make sure that everyone's comfortable coming to me approaching me uh with their concerns
073the second goal relates to the mtss goal in the area of behavior we did create our SEL check-in team to address some of the high frequency kids that are frequently frequently coming into the office so we do have teachers that reach out to them regularly and check in with them also we provide professional development for our teachers that would uh that is led by our student support Specialists and our instructional coach to basically help them understand that that SEL process and what that means we're very family friendly School our PTA and family involvement has really skyrocketed since last year we just had over 40 families attend our minute to win at PTA night last week so we're very proud of that as well here you can see our our data it's a very similar Trend
074to several of my colleagues we are increasing in several areas however we do know where we need to grow and we are being Diagnostic in that regard so here um you could see what we're doing to address that area we have professional development set up for our entire staff and one-on-one Support also myself an instructional coach meet regularly with the assistant principal and staff members to disaggregate all of our state test data as you can see listed here last year we had a focus on data meetings this year we're utilizing the district mtss cycle and that's what we're doing to kind of dig in to see where our kids are falling behind where our strengths are where our weaknesses are and what we can do better to support our students foreign so our final goal
075is our building level goal we've been working on attendance for the last couple of years this year we are narrowing down uh kindergarten to third grade we're striving for 95 in that area so you can see um on the left we have kind of a breakdown of those grade levels and then on the right we dug into the actual effect that covet had on our attendance last year we noticed that it did have an impact but it wasn't highly significant so that being said why are students not coming to school and what are we going to do about that the ADC is absentee absent due to covet exactly um that's so we wanted to create an attendance committee and follow up with our our students the office does communicate daily with students that are absent
076and I know this because I do have parents that call me frequently and say I know my students and not here and then that's how I know that we're getting through to those kids and then they send in the the correct documentation there's been several instances where you know they're they're sending in their doctor's notes and it's because they're getting that contact um we're also creating a PBIS initiatives and incentives we want to make school fun we're getting back to that that convocation and those Awards monthly for kids that are doing awesome in school in the behavior and academics we also have been sending home our attendance letters and we want to focus on family involvement we've actually gotten some guidance from the A to Z consultants in this particular area we want to have
077a a series of meetings where we invite the families into the building and focus on the importance of attendance in those primary grades because we know that those are the most important areas and the most important grades and if students aren't in school they cannot learn thank you very much thank you wow good evening president zuno superintendent Miller Board of Trustees and my colleagues I am Allison lenzo I am the principal at Frank O'Bannon Elementary School and my amazing assistant principal is Miss Joni Denny so as you can see from the data that was shared with our demographics we have had an increase of enrollment by 60 students however pretty much across the board with our ethnicities free and reduced lunch special ed and ldp populations it's been pretty consistent O'Bannon is one of the
078highest free and reduced lunch schools so every year we make phone calls to those families who haven't completed it so right now we're currently at 78 percent so my office staff will be making those phone calls in the next few weeks our transceancy rate last year was 6.7 percent prior to that I believe it was um seven percent so it went down a bit so with Goal number one as you can see with our um Community complaints what we're doing at O'Bannon is that we um have a power of positivity challenge we started this last year so we have a spreadsheet that every teacher fills out weekly and I check that and they make one positive context so it could be a phone call a parent Square message a postcard so last year we had
079over 1100 positive contacts to our families we also have positive office referrals if you follow our Facebook page I post those every Friday afternoon or evening teachers and administrators receive cultural responsive professional development last year provided by our um d e I'm sorry Dei champion and we will continue that this year as well and that's represented on our professional development calendar and then also since the district is tracking complaints we track those at O'Bannon as well last year we had six complaints this year so far we've had one and only my assistant principal and I see those but we do follow up with the parents and teachers hold a meeting if needed and then also come up with a solution to the problem for goal two um for our mtss at obiano like everyone had
080said earlier we have the character strong we also do morning meetings we're very fortunate it'll be on that we have a licensed reading interventionist and we have an aid so we have that support with two adults in the building and then we also have a licensed student support specialist as well as an aide so the students have that support as well we have our restorative circles conflict resolution with our students in fourth to sixth grade to try to prevent those future behavior issues and we started that last year we're going to continue it this year every classroom office even in the cafeteria we have a peace Corner everywhere it'll be on in where students can go and cool down if they're frustrated or if they're sad they could go and refocus and there's a timer
081inside that tub there are fidgets in there paper and it's just an opportunity for them to refocus and get back to learning as the timer's like four minutes so they're not there too long and then this year we started restorative discipline exit tickets that students complete on a Google form so if they make a poor choice what did they do what could they do differently next time for goal number three we want to see a 10 increase in our student growth on Ela and math so as stated earlier by many we were going to continue the i-Ready Pathways and math and reading we hold data meetings with our students at O'Bannon every student has a data folder and the teachers hold those meetings with them and students also have goal sheets and they color them
082in depending on the grade level like kindergarten colors them but the older students they write a reflection and then also we take that and bring it back to the staff meeting so like next week is our first I ready data meeting with our staff um we share those i-Ready reports with our parents they were just sent home this week and we also recognize growth with our students on our announcements so the kids names are announced and then they get to come pick a prize from our prize box we have hegarty instruction and then we continue with our guided reading and guided math groups and this is our data for I learned for the past two years and similar to my colleagues we are making girls so we're proud of that and we're just continuing to
083go in that direction for goal four we focus on our special education subgroup because in the past we've noticed that we weren't passing our students with special ed needs didn't pass at a rate we wanted them to so our goal was to have five percent or more of our special ed population pass the ELA part of the iLearn test so our teachers of record work with their students who have IEPs two to three times a week off of their pathway off of i-Ready now so they have their IEP goals but they have to be exposed to grade level work and standards so we want to make sure we're looking at the growth pathway as well we have resource time in our teachers schedule so they have one-on-one time to meet with small group and meet
084those individual needs and then we also have a data tracking sheet where the teachers track what lessons they were working on for iready and then they also tracked their progress on their IEP goals and we're very proud to say that last year we actually met our goal of 10 increase so this year our goal is to make an additional five percent increase so we're still keeping that five percent goal and I'm really proud of everybody for all their hard work and dedication at O'Bannon thank you good evening Board of Trustees superintendent Miller good evening it's my first time so all right I am Melinda Hawkins I am the proud first year principal of Wallace Elementary and Mr Charles pudgorny is my amazing assistant principal um if you look at our data demographics the one thing
085I do want you to see is our increase in enrollment last year we were at 383. this year we are at 467. um about 40 of those students are housed at Columbia because they're part of the Head Start program but even still that puts us about over 40 kids in our building so we are very proud that our enrollment is going up and our teachers are adjusting very well to that so we are excited about having more children in our building all right District goals for the first goal um to see a 50 decrease in the number of community complaints um The Wallace staff is going to continue to receive ongoing professional development and we are actually going to be starting at the end of October a book study with the book titled better than
086carrots or sticks restorative practices for a positive classroom management and this is a book that I read and I thought it was powerful and I think that our teachers will be very responsive to it because it goes through and it helps the reader develop a non-confrontational rapport even with the most challenging students and it prioritizes relationship building and mutual understanding which is something that our students and sometimes our staff can even struggle with um so it's something that we're all going to be trying to improve and then every week Wallace teachers and administrators make two good news phone calls to families and that was one of my non-negotiables coming in as the principal uh was that our parents needed to hear positive things about their children and the data is logged by all the teachers
087it's tracked and then it's shared with the staff so they can see who's getting positive phone calls it could be as something as simple as your student helped somebody tie their shoe at lunch today but parents like to hear good things about their children and we have a lot of really amazing children that we want to brag about so we are implementing that for goal number two for implementing mtss to meet our students behavior and SEL needs we do obviously character counts just like all of my colleagues previously mentioned every month we focus on one character trait this month was respect next month is responsibility and something that we do is every day teachers staff recess aides custodians anybody in the building if they see a student making a respectful choice they put their name
088in a respectful bin every day our MTR our student support specialist pulls four names and those four uh Monday through Friday get a special treat Monday is mindful Monday they get to have a lunch Bunch with our student support specialist Tuesday is um tasty treat Tuesday they get to pick like an airhead or a sucker on Wednesday they have um uh uh I cannot remember because I'm nervous so um on Thursday it's thankful Thursday and they get to eat lunch with someone they're thankful for and on Friday they get fast pass Friday they they get to go right up to the front of the line to get their lunch and that is a hot commodity um and we are actually having a major um focus on being kind and making good choices that's like our
089theme of our building is be kind and make good choices and we are focusing on teaching our Bobcats how to repair relationships when they're broken and really thinking about how their behaviors affect other people all right um if for goal number three a ten percent increase what I do want you to see is our overall proficiency um we started from the bottom and we are going up and that's what we are concerned about we grew 14 and a half percent um in our overall Proficiency in English and language arts and a 7.3 percent increase in math so we are very proud of the hard work our teachers and our students are um you know they're amazing um we are going to be having our teachers to to continue our growth our teachers are going to
090be meeting uh weekly with each student to go over their data um from their I ready learning path because we believe that it allows students to reflect on their performance and it helps them take ownership of where they started and where they're going um we also are going to do weekly walkthroughs with uh myself uh Mr pudgorny and our amazing instructional coach Amy Sweeney and we are going to be focusing on these four objectives the one I want you to highlight and really pay attention to is the consistent cognitive engagement we want our students to be cognitively engaged in all of the instruction that means that they are asking questions participating in the discussions and they are leading the discussions not just participating um for goal number four are um goal is attendance we we're
091we're we've got a lot of work to do and we are excited to do it um we were at 93.6 and last year we were at 87.9 but as you can see on the graph we had 140 students out due to covid and that equaled 618 days of missed instruction due to covet uh so we know where our you know Achilles heel was and we are doing what we can to fix that and daily our office staff and administrators myself and Mr podgorny anybody who is marked absent if it's not excused we make a phone call before 11 o'clock because one we want to check to make sure that the students are okay the families are okay and two we want them to know that we see that their child is not here um just
092like my colleagues were outside every single day welcoming the families opening doors we pay uh very close attention to welcoming welcoming them by name because we feel like it's important for the students to know that we know who they are um we also take daily attendance percentages and then at the end of the week we share that with all of the staff and the class with the highest attendance percentage if you follow our Facebook you will see it um at the end of every week the class with the highest attendance percentage uh everyone is entered to win a raffle for a gas gift card for their parents just because we want to acknowledge the effort and commitment that the parents and families take sometimes it's hard to get your kid to school and we want
093to acknowledge our parents and the hard work of getting their students to school so that is it what can I do to you thank you [Applause] thank you like Mr Salinas I believe that concludes our Elementary yes presentations correct can can we give a special Round of Applause all our elementary leaders well done that presidents all know this is we're past the Midway point but I would recommend we take a five minute recess before we do middle in high school I agree all right thank you thank you foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] thank you foreign [Music] foreign [Music] thank you [Music] they will return to
094our regular programming I believe we have our middle schools it looks like Edgars is next yay [Applause] good evening borders are Steve superintendent Miller I'm Angela Johnson and I am the proud principal of Eggers Middle School and I am accompanied by Miss Carlita Royal who is my assistant principal and Miss Yolanda Williams who is the dean of students so when we're looking at our two-year demographics um obviously there was a consolidation so Edgars went from 748 to 9 10 but even with that consolidation pretty much most of the population stayed roughly about the same um we did kind of highlight the fact that our special ed population did increase about four percent and also our English language English language Learners increased 10 percent so those were the major changes in our two-year demographics um our
095Transit transciency rate so my supplies aren't updated but our transgiency rates stayed about the same it was 4.2 percent and 4.5 for um last year um and so and keep it in line with our goals for the district our first goal um how we are addressing our community complaints and culturally and sensitive practices at Eggers is that we are starting monthly professional developments on cultural competency and culturally responsive teaching with staff so we've kind of reached out to the National Education Association for some um supports with getting those professional developments set up we are focusing greatly on increasing parent involvement and engagement so Tuesday is our meeting with a to z they're going to help us develop some ideas we already have to get parents engaged so we've been focusing on teacher student relationships but
096we also want to make sure that we have those parent relationships and the implementation of fat Friday which actually begins tomorrow with our Dean so it is a program where we have targeted our students who need a lot of support and academics behavior issues attend evidence issues and SO meetings have been set up with a team of their teachers and the dean and monthly every Friday they will be meeting with different groups of those students and also tracking them because we have night school detention every Friday so those students who are like consistently repeat offenders of night school detention where I'm trying to be a little bit proactive they're doing small things now to get detention but we don't want those small things to get into big things so a lot of those students um
097and their parents are invited to back Friday um the second goal that we have our mtss goal um in line again with the district um is that we have our building coordinator or our student support as Dr ship stated um has been hired we've collaborated with her to create um a calendar so we have quarterly PBIS incentives that focus on academic growth so those students who show academic growth have those PBIS incentives and then the monthly incentives for behavior and citizenship so one of the things we did was we used to have the will of Misfortune but now we actually purchased a wheel so that the students can actually spend that will and you know whatever it lands on if they have earned it that's the incentive that we make sure that they get um
098we also have a tiered mentee and Mentor program so we know that there are three tiers to mtss so each of us on the Administration staff and our SEI um uh coordinator person he we all have chosen at least one student in each of those tiers to Mentor so we meet with them um as needed or of course those who are like in tier three might we have a more specific time that we meet with them weekly um just to you know touch base with them keep track of how they're doing in school and that they know that we're keeping an eye on them so our data for proficiency and growth on the state test what I highlighted was when I started at Edgar's we were sixth seventh and eighth grade so I started um
099focusing on that sixth grade cohort because I knew they would be with me the longest so in 2021 their proficiency was about 13 in ela and five percent almost six percent in math they increased in the ELA and kind of held steady and math and then their overall um performance or proficiency went up about one percent so um we just really happy and proud of them for you know sticking it out and and bearing through with us um during covet and everything else um the third girl goal or how we're addressing that is making sure that we recruit and retain highly qualified staff there's been a lot of Staff turnover at Edgars um so when we get good people we're trying to keep those good people there um so doing anything we can to make
100sure that that staff stays on board with us we're going to continue with our targeted instruction and focusing on test taking strategies looking at restructuring our master schedule those minutes of the day we really want to try to embed more remediation time in that schedule to produce more growth and more time with students and then we have the before school and after school tutoring cohorts that we will be beginning soon hmm so um our two-year growth data for our goal for so our goal for was to increase our growth by five percent on i-Ready because we know that if we increase the growth then the proficiency um will begin to catch up so um again looking at that cohort that sixth grade cohort when they were seventh grade um on those benchmark assessments where they
101have really increased um their growth um even switching tests so I'm really proud of those students for for doing that and how we're going to continue that growth on those tests and hopefully it'll translate into the the iLearn assessment is that we're going to continue with weekly um grade level meetings to disaggregate student data and I want you to to be aware that that's not just academic data but it is discipline data it is attendance data as well because we do kind of want to look at you know if there's any connections or trends that we see with specific students quarterly data Dives to determine what standards we need to reteach review or remediate um we have weekly talk uh walkthroughs with our staff and they know that we're targeting specific instructional strategies on those
102walk-throughs and then we've created the data walls in some classes they have enough wall space for it but other classes they may have a binder um but we want to make sure that that information is always in front of teachers um so that students are not just looked at as a percentage or a number but they know exactly who those students are that we need to Target and keep an eye on and track so that is what we're doing at anchors thank you thank you um good evening superintendent Miller any Steve School Board thanks for having us tonight appreciate that okay uh Mrs Dylan is my assistant principal I'm Andrew merritten principal at Scott and Mrs Kemp is our dean of students really a fantastic Trio I believe we work really well together really proud
103of our team this year are demographics for 2022 and 23 as you can see the negative um in the parentheses there we've pretty much gone down in every area of population wise a little bit in each area the multi-cultural multiracial areas gone up a little bit but across the board we've gone down with uh our population so for goal one of our building level action items of me coming in as new principal from the first month now I think I really wanted to focus on creating a positive culture at Scott and so some of the things we are doing increasing parent communication I'm looking at incident reports bullying concerns and making sure that we follow up with these items in a timely fashion so when a parent calls in we get back to him as
104fast as we can we look at everything with Fidelity and provide respect and due diligence to everyone who has a concern at Scott one of the things I like to do is to meet the kids as they come into the building every day it's something I've been doing for a long time in my career and I just feel like that's a really positive thing the first you know person that a student sees and a parent teach each day should be the Principal I like to put a smile on their face before they get into into our front doors we are trying to increase our communication as well this is a super important that we reach our parents so they know what's going on in our school like most schools we're using newsletters open house and
105parent square has been successful this year we have action plans and goals that will be established with the family coordinator in our school and A2Z we are creating an action plan as well the goal is to accompany that a survey we just sent out for open house and we're getting the data gathered back actually the results are pretty promising and we're going to have additional surveys throughout the year to get more information from parents and how we can better serve our community um and my favorite thing that we're doing this year is to our second semester we're bringing a student Runner program this is something that I did in my former School essentially what happens is there's a couple of students each hour that's in there in the office we hand pick them those students
106uh the teachers help us they recommend these kids and what they do is they run passes but more importantly they're involved in our office and it just helps us build a connection with kids uh in my in the past I've done this it's been very successful goal number two we also have an interventionist um Mrs Boyd is our interventions at Scott Middle School and she is involved in all day long she helps kids and she helps in a number of ways and so when kids come back from suspensions or to prevent suspension she's working with these kids on a regular basis and the idea with her is that she it prevents things from happening and then when students come back from when they're in trouble she gives them a smoother transition so they can increase
107their their ability to be successful as they return Scott PBIS is another area that we really want to use this year like a lot of the other schools we feel like rather than focusing on that negative we want to be very positive middle school kids feed off of positive energy and so every Friday we give Awards to students we say their name on the PA system and more importantly we just want to reinforce that positive behavior in our school goal number three uh our team name is Scorpion stat team it's essentially a data team of leaders in our building also including Dr Rausch and what we are doing is looking at every area in our school Behavior instruction attendance and all these areas and figure out how we can provide interventions and increase in every
108area within our school after school tutoring will be up and running soon teachers are applying for that and so we're really excited about this and a lot of the students will will recommend for these programs and really try to promote um by looking at our data and this year I really wanted to increase our participation rate in testing get as many tests completed and so we have that good data that I think we're we were highly successful this year I'm very proud of Mrs Kemp my test coordinator we're in the high 90s almost every kid tested our school which is really impressive I think also creating a professional Library I'm a former English teacher so I really believe in talking to teachers about the important issues like Equity cultural responsiveness I think that having the
109in-depth conversations with staff is we're really where you're going to grow where you open up a dialogue and move forward in that direction and number four professor Professor math and Ela interventionists provide daily support for staff and students interventions are are super important at the middle school level they provide extra support for our teachers and we're looking at actually getting another interventionist soon hopefully be approved by the school board those folks are extremely important to our school also we're looking at some software programs like formative and writable to help our long-term subs and to fill in the gaps for teachers so they have more resources in the classroom and also looking for ongoing ongoing special education departments support we feel like special education is extremely important in our school and we need to work with
110them very closely to serve as our students the best we can and textbook professional development is provided by the the district and there's a lot of great opportunities this year that we're going to be incorporating including it also formative provides from a professional development as well so we're happy with the support that district has supplied helped us with this year moving forward and as you know we all have tiered inventions interventions for for students and we this applies to academics as well as Behavior Uh we play students in these intervention areas and we move them up and down based on our performance we feel that it's the best way to service kids thank you very much thank you [Applause] good evening president members of the board superintendent Miller my name is Dave Verda I am
111the proud principal of Hammond Central High School you click enter by clicking so here on the first slide here you'll see uh my team members here we have four assistant principals and one athletic director uh Jen Reiser who's the 12th grade Eddie Garcia is over 11th grade Dave Boris hits his 10th grade and Damika Harrison is ninth grade and then we have Chris Moore is the athletic director I'm very lucky to have each one of these on my team each one of us specialize in a different area and we all complement each other very well looking at the demographics here we're sitting at about uh 1916 and I pulled this or if you looked at the ADM in February we're up about 94 students here um we're equal would you look at the male and
112the female students look it down we have about 55 Hispanic Latino students for about 33.7 uh black or African-American students uh and if you look at our exceptional Learners we have 290 or 286 uh we're up about 1.5 percent there that our English English language Learners we have 242 and then our Mobility rate was about 13.7 last year and it's down to 12 this year I'm looking at goal number one with the community complaints uh we're really going to focus on uh making sure we continue to collaborate with all ham and Central stakeholders our Multicultural committee that we formed there at Hampden Central our Student Government it just makes sure we're getting everybody's feedback making sure we're listening to everybody and everybody everybody has a voice uh again we're going to make sure that our
113curriculum that we Implement into classrooms is Rich we want to make sure that we have powerful professional development usually stem from the district and led by the district and then we want to have monthly meetings with our our front office ladies because we want to make sure that even though we get yelled at times we're smiling we have great uh customer service we want to treat everybody with respects whether you're a parent a guardian a grandparent or a student everybody gets treated equally and fairly there looking at goal number two here uh dealing with mtss uh we're going to continue to work with the mcess administrator from the district level meeting uh make sure we have all the expectations aligned all of our teachers attend professional development over effective tier one instruction we have to
114make sure our tier one instruction and that's just everyday classroom instruction is Meaningful we're being consistent in what we're doing inside the classroom and then we want to make sure that uh we pull out those tier two three tier three students that really need that extra support make sure we identify them early we have a student uh support team that we would look over at tennis we look over uh discipline data we look over grades academics and we want to make sure we reach those kids early enough so we can provide that support uh goal three here we want to see a 10 increase with student growth and Proficiency in our Ela and math on state exam State assessments and District assessments and we're talking about the PSAT sat ASVAB and I ready um again
115we have a professional development calendar already set all the way till January okay with research-based academic interventions a lot of those interventions are in our sip we want to make sure that we're uh we are year two of uh project-based learning problem-based learning with new tech so we're following their lead making sure our teachers are receiving that professional development and that we are trying to increase the communication to homes making sure that our parents are involved in coming in for meetings or uh just simple conversations on the phone with them and then we're getting ready to start our after school tutoring next week uh focusing uh obviously English and math and then we're going to do some SAT prep and ASVAB prep and we're working together with Morton on that as well and then uh
116goal four here is really geared towards our uh sophomores and our freshmen and our special needs students we want to we are a project-based uh learning school problem-based learning school with new tech so we want to make sure that we're implementing that in our sip because we hope to be fully uh new tech by 2024 so we're going to be tracking these students here in getting our students our special new students more engaged in the classroom more Hands-On and we feel like if we could pick up that engagement that it's going to reflect on assessments as we move forward uh so we want to make sure our our tors are making sure they're meeting with the students they're having checklists going over what needs to be done inside the classroom checking out projects we want
117to make sure that we're providing incentives to our students as well as we move forward if they're hitting that criteria we are a atsi school for special ed so we're in a position now where we have to show some growth with our special needs students on those State exams so we're hoping if we could bring that problem-based learning project-based learning inside those classrooms getting those students more engaged more Hands-On that it's going to reflect on a test and we're going to see some growth and that is all for him essential thank you thank you sir good evening superintendent Miller president zuno Trustees of the board welcome I am here to represent Morton High School I am the principal of Jeremy Hicks and our leadership administrative team at Morton High School includes uh 12th grade assistant
118principal William dankle 11th grade assistant principal O'Brien page 10th grade assistant principal Christine wheeler 9th grade assistant principal James Pintor and athletic director administrator Sean Kinsey so as you heard a lot of the goals we have aligned as a district and our secondary schools have aligned them so the next four goals that you will see will have the caught up with the demographics first yeah there we go we'll have the 2023 uh going into the demographics are student population as of our student count was 1 640 students there's about an even split with male and female students with the highest population DNR black or African-American population with 44 Hispanic or Latino 39 percent white population 11 and multiracial uh 4.87 close to five our students they receive special education services or exceptional Learners or at
119about 19 English language Learners remain at about five percent and are free and reduced lunch students that receive free and reduced lunch are at about 65 percent our transient C is a little bit lower than last year we're closer to 20 percent uh currently it's about 15.39 percent by the spring of 2023 the goal that has that addresses the culturally insensitive practices and cultural competency I do want to recognize our A to Z Consultants uh that are here Dorothea Williams and Jim dilday who we've worked real close with uh last year and especially this school year I just want to recognize them they're here but they have been instrumental in encouraging our school looking at different pieces of culture parent engagement surveys family involvement just those different pieces that have helped us as a community
120uh just really focus and laser focus our practices so thank you for being here tonight uh the things that we've done at the building level is continuous collaboration with our Community Partners and committee to check just stakeholder input to present and form and monitor the implementation implementation of rich rich culturally responsive teaching practices learn through professional development that is either at the local building level or through our district level and then continue professional development and capacity building so we're fortunate to have instructional coaches in our building that really drive that instructional practices uh in turn that our teachers and students benefit from our goal uh the second goal deals with mtss meeting the students needs and behavioral and SEL needs and how we're going to look at that is looking at our data which will
121come from student meetings and student data so this year we're lucky to have a mtss social worker Miss Laura Nunes who hit the ground running she has a group of students that she's been working with directly in small groups and providing those social worker mtss interventions our goal is to develop ncss team which we do have and we've really refined our practices from last year to this year where we have a Cadence of meetings where we look at specific data to measure how we're doing and that's the data is going to drive what we're doing collaborally create and Implement SEO activities which are done on at least Fridays we have within our advisory time and then we do a daily peppered in with our classroom lessons goal number three is the increase in growth and
122proficiency as it relates to English and math professional development has been established as mentioned by my colleague Mr virta the calendar for professional development is outlined for semester one uh and it's based on research-based academic interventions we are driving that uh training of our teacher leaders in differentiation which you've heard tonight of instruction not all Learners learn the same and we really have to look at the specific niche of each each student establishing those effective methods of analyzing our data now we're starting to get some baseline data points as we're starting to end grading period one and we're closing in on those data points where we can measure throughout the year and then as mentioned after school tutoring is going to kick off shortly where we're going to have some geared interventions to support our
123students and specifically in addition which would be a new thing supporting that sat preparation which is a huge Advantage for us as a school goal number four uh deals with the failing grades of our students that receive special education services our goal looking to decrease the amount of failures for that student population uh how we're going to do that at the building is develop a consistent schedule with students for monitoring and support implementation use of Plato and Remediation classes to support those students that were not successful possibly the first time and then also look at collaborating with special education and content Area Teachers to support our students on a more laser focused level thank you thank you [Applause] good evening superintendent Miller um administrative colleagues I am your final administrator to present and of course
124the least typical because my my slides are a little different and my Approach is a little different like in everything but um we did get news since we found out we were presenting that School City of Campus was awarded from the idoe on September 9th was the gala and we had 88 students that participated in this won't sit here maybe well um but crossing the Finish Line initiative that Governor Holcomb pushed through with covid so students who were a little bit short of getting a technical certificate or credential or the Indiana college core could participate through Vincennes or Ivy Tech over the summer right after their senior year and get free tuition books all their fees were paid um and we had 88 students do that I'm still waiting on them to provide me who
125they work is when sweet they left us if they signed up on their own or um through our schools so they they're providing us with that data but they did recognize us as a district they were all ham and kids so while they probably came through the career center um it wasn't Lake Central and I don't know if you get the idoe newsletter but every week Munster was there um with they they had the most kids but we actually ended up receiving the award for the most completers in it so it's pretty exciting we did get five hundred thousand dollars that we were were just talking before this meeting we're going to put towards furthering those sort of initiatives by getting some Transportation hopefully some white buses that will do professional no too far do
126professional development uh get our students to their internships and their testing to get those credentials and then acknowledge the teachers see I knew it would acknowledge those teachers that helped us get there so anybody who taught dual credit is already getting a stipend but teachers who are providing dual credit provided dual credit or credentials through the year that got us this award we would like to provide some of that Financial reward to them as well you look like you want to add something Mr Miller okay so for our that was just exciting and we just found out they kind of Blindsided us with it and um we weren't aware it was coming or why they wouldn't tell us in the whole lead up so um it was great news it's great for our district and
127now that you guys know I'll I'll put it out there and get some publicity behind it so our data demographics are pretty much the same um I gave Dr ship some green papers that'll be the next slide but you know our enrollment is steady uh we have more females still we're still the highest in our Hispanic population we have doubled our special education numbers which is really exciting and our our teachers are getting support and learning to meet their needs uh it it's really cool to to get them in programs and equip them with the skills that we offer at the career center that ell number is not correct it's partially because we rely on other districts reporting their numbers to us so now that adm's over and they've compiled their numbers we will have
128a better ell number represented in our chart um free and reduced lunch that's typically him and students only as well in there because the other districts do not have to report it to us our next slide Dr ship is gonna this is my working spreadsheet I apologize when I linked it it has new and returning students from every school in our totals but Dr Schiff is giving you a a much better one that's easier to read but if you if you wanted all the data you could look at this one um we have 10 high schools that are coming to us in 14 pathways through enrollment um overall Hammond is 33 of our population at the ACC we do have the highest number of Hammond students with 146 coming from Hammond Central 66 coming from
129Morton they are represented in every program um there is no program that doesn't have Hammond kids in it and we did open it up in the past two years that Hammond Central or Morton could come in the AM or PM whatever suited their schedule for their other courses so that's helped um we love seeing them there our low enrollment programs are digital design which it used to be graphic design early childhood education uh our hammond-based I.T software development and that's because it's brand new so the students who opted into the computer science pathway should come to the career center it's not an application program they don't have to apply they don't have to contend with anybody it's just for him and because it's such a hard position to fill a qualified computer science teacher in
130any one of the there's 10 Pathways within computer science it's a hard job to get a teacher for that is really going to benefit our kids so I said well how's it at the ACC and then the kids can come and it's so it's just for him and students radio and television which is so exciting is is historically low it's got an amazing facility you were all there to record your graduation speeches again just slow so we're gonna um our goals which are on the next uh page our first one is we did that clna process that I presented to you where we we don't do a school Improvement plan we do a comprehensive local needs assessment and then develop goals and align our federal funding to support those goals and the first one um
131with our stakeholders is to increase enrollment in those low enrollment programs so there's branding initiatives there's um engaging more employers to get the word out we just have to create and disseminate clear descriptions of what's going on in our classes so that the parents want to be there the narrative has always been that college is the answer and and sometimes it is right and sometimes it's not and we have these great things that they can do that's not post-secondary education within high school so we just have to let them know that we're not less than um sometimes we're more than because they do both they they get gainful employment and add back to our region so aligning funding to that for digital design early childhood education radio and TV and then it won't take much
132funding to get the school city of ham and kids through the door it was just a new thing that we're housing at the ACC so I'm sure that class will be full um within the next school year our second goal I'm sorry guys this is not what I'm used um is ensuring that 100 of our programs are converted to next level of study you didn't know um next levels of study is the huge transition that Career and Technical education went through in the state under the push of the governor's Workforce cabinet and essentially it allowed us to service more students and get more students through our programs with graduation qualifiers and credentials so they become a Career and Technical education concentrator and attained the Dual credits and credentials in one year as opposed to two
133so it totally reframed the Area Career Center and it's format because students used to come for two years outside of Health Sciences which includes CNA and EMS and Welding all of our programs can be completed for graduation and credential and dual credit purposes in one year now and they will have a selective Capstone where they apply they're interviewed they have to do a resume because they're going out in the field they're doing internships they are they've met the qualifications that most of our sending school districts sent them for and it allows us to put our best and brightest out there in the field for those um cap Stones so our teachers are developing a rubric all the other things are already in place when it comes to the second year Capstone for all of our
134programs and placing students out in them so outside of welding and Health Sciences everyone will have a Capstone our next goal is to increase the percentage of students participating in 75 or more hours of work based learning by 10 percent so that is a lot we are um developing school-based Enterprises where we can it's much more complicated than I ever um there are a lot of pieces they're supposed to be 100 student run so we we've created a position that we presented it in a board meeting at the end of last year and funded it out of our grant that will essentially be someone with business skills and business knowledge to guide our kids in this because it's not supposed to be the teacher and it's not supposed to be me it's supposed to be
135the students that are managing these businesses so everything um will have school-based Enterprises that allow the students that are in that Capstone to run them Auto construction Cosmo culinary digital design radio and TV and we're starting within our building in the district so you guys will get ads for them bring your car into the auto shop um and then and then hopefully branching out to the community once we get those models in place through school-based Enterprises so aligning funding to that and our final goal is to develop a systematic approach to professional development with 100 participation um as you know our teachers at the ACC are not classically trained so a lot of them they're pedagogy uh Foundation is based on a Ball State program that's only one year long so constant and they want
136it they want the support to reach these Learners the best so we are going to identify with team leads we're going to the CTE conference that the state puts on as a faculty next Friday and Saturday and hopefully we'll identify something that they can all buy into and want and I can support them with that and align funding to help them Reach more and more kids and that's like thank you Mr President trustee Blake King Mr Miller is part of the report yeah that's not a problem I can get it put up in the board Jacks yeah my observation is we're still students outside are still outnumbering our Hammond students by quite a bit when I if I'm looking at these numbers correctly and um perhaps we can talk about this in the future thank
137you thank you I'd love to see it bursting into seams with him and kids you know me um the last part tonight is Dr ship you're going to close us out sure with the song why not let me say a few things while she's coming up here one of my impressions of the the presentations that we just saw is that we don't have school leaders here in Hammond that are just sitting around in their offices we have school leaders who see the challenges in front of them that are identifying them collaboratively going with their school leadership teams and coming up with interventions and solutions to problems to try and sometimes they they're effective sometimes they're really effective and sometimes the next year you got to revise and come up with something new but that's what
138I see I don't see passivity here I see leaders who are concerned about our kids and are doing and taking the steps they need for our students to be successful in Hammond so my hat's off to you guys it's a it is nerve-wracking to come up here in front of the board and and talk about all the things that you're doing but I think anyone watching this would be like wow like the leadership in Hammond is really moving things forward so I'm excited to support you [Applause] foreign excited to support you I know Dr ship is as well and we're gonna we're gonna we're gonna continue to improve and grow and and meet the needs of our community and kids so that said Dr ship so today I'm going to share academic support guidelines this
139did not come just willy-nilly this really took um multiple months to really work through this uh this document was also shared with the principals in the spring of 2022 for feedback but this document is to give guidelines and really give a process to if we have to retain a student we have done the work we need even through mtss even through tutoring that we have a document that we follow a unified document that if we have to retain as students and the process that includes a parent being involved from the beginning and not told at the end of the year that their child is being recommended to be retained uh this document is broken down between Elementary and Middle School uh the page that you see right now is uh the elementary level and it
140goes from kindergarten I'm sorry I can't see this where is it I don't see it you might need to refresh your screen but it's it's in the public yeah it's in public content for tonight's meeting why why is it important why isn't it just part of the uh saying as the other presentations are it's there just refresh your screen it's it's refer to my screen what's it called academic support guidelines I see at the bottom thank you he's in the library and apologies and where no we're we're the other school Improvement plans were there's two new documents at the bottom I had to get out of board docs and get back in in order to get the document out we have it now all right so in section A you see that we are addressing
141our elementary grade placement especially for kindergarten because we haven't had a clear process as far as saying what we qualify as students entering our schools at kindergarten and if we have a request for early admission Mr Salinas has worked on guidelines of what that is so we are just officially putting things and our guidelines in print for everyone to be aware of what they are uh you also will see for grades one through six uh I'm paraphrasing how we will place our students age appropriate in their classes and that goes for students especially if they're coming from out of state and this other state might have different requirements of how they Place students we are now clearly saying how exclusive to a Hammond we will place students by age appropriate classes as you look at
142section B promotion of students annually is desired and should be placed on the following criteria so if we look at kindergarten the student must meet the minimum kindergarten Indiana academic standards in language arts and Mathematics by receiving a grade of satisfactory number two the student must demonstrate Proficiency in the kindergarten Indiana academic standards as demonstrated by but not limited to report card grades progress reports i-Ready scores teacher input social and emotional development input in grades one through six number one the student must receive a passing grade of D or higher in Reading Ela and Mathematics the student must also maintain a at least a d average in all other subject areas combined number two the student must demonstrate process towards Proficiency in the grade level based on the Indiana standards and it must be demonstrated
143but not limited to report cards i-Ready pathway I learned scores grades three through six I read three District assessments and social emotional development input if the student is in the mtss process the reason we added that because we know that our schools are doing a lot for mtss process so when this was developed I sat down with the mtss coordinator and looked at the timeline and calendar that was shared with them to make sure we're all in alignment together with this document as we move further when you think about the timeline and how we start this process and how this process will end the timeline for elementary will start October and go until January during this period teachers will complete a student intervention referral information sheet and all those documents will be the second attachment
144in the um uh that we'll share with you tonight all the documents that it makes reference to after the teacher completes the student intervention referral information sheet the teacher notifies the parent during the first grading period of the report card of the student's progress and possible retention and it is a form that is completed which is the RTI form to say that we are now officially adding additional services to support that student the reason this is important has been shared tonight because next pretty soon will be in the month of October pretty soon our marking period one is ending and our teachers will have the data the principals have had the data talks they have started the interventions and this is the time to bring parents aboard to let them know where their child is
145standing and the interventions that we're putting in place because our goal is not to retain but bring that parent alongside us as we put extra interventions and supports in for them number c students will receive academic supports in the mtss cycle which starts uh cycle two and three and that starts uh in October right now they're currently in cycle one and those were the students that were targeted last year that were shared I think in a previous board meeting that at the end of the year a list of students that were still academically or behavioral behaviorally struggling that list was already created so when those students returned day one to school they immediately received academic and behavioral supports and they are currently in the mtss cycle one number d letter d the teacher identifies students
146at risk retention based on limited growth and notifies the building principle and at that time when they fill out the document remember at this time currently they are talking about their students we are officially just putting things in documents and having those talks and filling out those forms at that time the MTS says will be notified by the principal that now we have these students that need to be a part of the mtss cycle too during the third marking period and this is very important and that starts in February for our district letter a teacher sends out intervention conference notices to the parent the mtss team meet with the teacher and parent to continue the modification and intervention plan so at this time the parent is still involved they're informed of the interventions they're getting
147updates if the student is making progress or not the teacher will implement the intervention plan as soon as it is completed by with the team the teacher will Monitor and evaluate the student's progress and document it on a form that you have with you have tonight she will meet with the student intervention team so that once that team meets create these interventions the teacher will go back into the classroom I will Implement and monitor to see how the student is progressing or not and the teacher will go back and meet with the team and give them feedback of where the student is this also allies to the mtss process so this will not feel like another layer to the administration Administration and the teachers the teacher meets or calls the parents to review the progress
148of the student intervention plan uh will be done twice during the third marking period during the last week of the third marking period the teacher meets with the student intervention team to discuss the progress of the student throughout the third marking period the mtss team will review all the documentation and make a decision as a team so not one person will make the determination if a child is retained uh the parent-teacher conference will be held at the end of the third marking period the teacher will review the students proficiency levels and concerns of the parent again the parent is still a part of the process as we try to put supports around the student because our goal is not to retain retention of students will be discussed and the determination will be made to continue
149and revise their intervention plan so we're still in that third marking period during the fourth marking period the mtss committee will have a meeting to to determine the final list so a third time at the fourth marking period if you think of the time of the year that is the time where the team needs to come together and determine all the documentation all the interventions uh behavioral attendance is this a child we need to recommend for retention and as you keep following down it is a process and forms for the school administration and teacher to complete and submit to central office for us to review and make the final determination um and if you go a little bit further I know um I kind of don't want to disclose it now but you will see
150a grading scale and I know pretty soon Mr Miller will probably share with you in a future a more updated grading skill for the district that will reflect our weighted and unweighted grades in our high school so we can have a complete K through 12 grading scale that actually acknowledge our unweighted courses and our weighted courses in a nutshell that is the academic support guidelines that I'm presenting to the board tonight I think it's very important that if you retain a child we have a district-wide policy that everyone follows and it's not uh one school is doing this and another school is doing this this shows that we're being intentional it shows that we're blending in our mtss process it shows that we're trying to involve the parent in the process if we're going to
151retain their child or not so trustees I know that's a lot to take in but we wanted to at least put it in front of you because it is something we intend to implement this year um because we have it ready and like Dr ship said the principles were presented in the spring we spent a lot of time on it and we think it's fair I mean because it doesn't really kick in till after the first grading period anyway so we're not behind they well really and truly with it hmm okay I guess that takes us to the end of the meeting do I have a motion to adjourn well let me let me end with some good news so we had three of our staff members nominated as influential women of the year uh
152Miss Dado Miss Lydia McNeely who's our College and Career in his counselor and Audrey Randall who is one of our career center instructors and she just won uh the influential woman of the year for education congratulations to Audrey oh exciting and thank you for all your hard work everyone we appreciate it have a good evening [Applause]
