001You good? Got us. All right. Thank you to DI Architects, Mr. Begley for leading this meeting. I turn the floor over to all y'all. >> All right. Well, I'll just kick it off real quick. So, we are This is been a labor of love. We are getting into that final stretch. Uh, I always say the most important part of the construction project is the design phase. The better you you dial it in, more accurate you get it in, the better price we'll get because we we have a better defined product that we put out to bid and get more people to to bid on it. Uh, we answer all those questions about timing and phasing and that takes a lot of the unknowns out and gets us better pricing with the general contracts. It's been
002a great experience working with these guys. Uh it's they have a team of people. U I'm always bouncing ideas off of them. It's been great working with Morgan and Mike Schultz. And they've been with the kids. They've been with the coaches. This thing is light years. This has gone through a lot of models, >> a lot of different models. It's gone through the scrutiny of what can we afford and it's kind of all come down to what we need, what's what what's going to help our school tunnel monster student athletes and students meet their goals. Uh financially responsible, something we're going to be proud of and it's going to be a great facility. With that, I'm going to turn over to DA to kind of work us through. >> All right. Uh again, we appreciate
003everyone's efforts to get us to this point a lot. Sean Ted us when he brought us on board that we are going to have to know when to tell people enough is enough or we have to stop or we can't afford that or we have to pull things back and so is the team. So we're at that point where we think we have a footprint that works for the budget that gets almost every need that's been talked about. a few things that we've had to make some tough decisions on, but I think that at the end of the day, it's going to be a really, really nice community. Um, just some timeline stuff. We're we have two more hearings with the town to go through that part of this process. There be a couple things
004we're going to show you today that are a direct result of feedback that we've heard. Um, but we'll get into that a little bit more later. Um, but with that, I'll let Rich start to walk us through the plan and then we'll do some fun flyounds. We have some samples of finishes here, try to hold those to later because everyone wants to play with them, but if you want to touch and feel, go ahead. We'll catch you up on this. >> All right, we'll run through this real quick. A little update. Um, starting with the site here. Not much has changed in concept with the separate bus um and parent drop off, separate lanes for that. main thing that's really changed is um kind of yeah that connection was not there um but basically just
005that parking lot is paired back with primarily the concept >> just the connection has been >> so this right here is not not and and for financial reasons and it didn't meet any needs of the traffic extension >> we talked with Bow going on a great deal about it. I mean, it would be a nice to have it would entail. We have a fiber optic line back there and there's also good amount of utilities that have to be moved. So, >> water detention >> and water detention is it's a big price tag or a convenience drive seem to make sense. >> So, what does a traffic flow look like without that? >> We walk through or probably be good. >> Yeah, we can kind of walk through. So, um, buses will come in off, uh,
00635th Street here and, uh, filter in in front of, uh, Wilbur right. So, kids will exit the buses, um, as they park in front of Wilbur, right? So, middle schoolers will walk in, high schoolers will navigate over here, uh, back to door H. So, they've got a little bit longer of a walk, but it's not much longer than where some of our buses right now park. um traffic flow for um uh the middle school drop off will funnel behind the middle school as it currently does uh and circle around here. So there'll be a nice little traffic flow. Um so if someone wanted to drop off at both the high school uh in Wolveright, they still have that double option to drop off here and then we'll have drop off that comes in off of
007Colombia and circles around here. Um I know the traffic study guys don't necessarily like the drop off here. they want it in front of the school, but we really kind of have the option to do both. Uh we can funnel traffic in front and then back out onto um Columbia Avenue from there. Um all of this kind of parking here will service this building, so it'll be central office staff. We might have some teachers uh park there during the day, but we're going to try to leave that open enough to create enough workflow for central office as needed. um that that space now will be, you know, as you'll see when it's not being used as a boardroom, it's going to be a great facility for professional development. And one thing I would add on
008there, something that, you know, has been important to me is to have a completely separate bus drop off and car drop off. Right now, we don't have that. Right now, we drop off in the back of the middle school and then we do uh we we move we turn around and we drop off by the school. This is going to have much less moving parts. We'll all pull in. We'll stay there until a designated release time and then we'll release all at once. The buses will stay there until everyone else is cleared and then we'll leave. So, it's going to be a much less moving part with the buses. Much safer. >> So, right now like uh back of the school buses and car riders co-mingle back here in the mornings. We won't have that
009truck dropping onto the middle school. >> And Wilbur Wright will have drop off that is not impeded by the buses themselves. Uh the little third through road between the two buildings will be closed off before and after school but available you know weekends um evenings during the workday. We we won't have traffic flowing back and forth uh between the >> buildings like we do now parking lots are downturn and drop off and pick up and then get off >> and the buses are parked on the bottom of those two parking lots. >> Yeah, the ones closest to the building. >> Is that similar to Frank Hammond how that's done in front? >> They haul around the the the circle. Yeah. >> Yeah. similar buses closer to the school uh which is what the traffic study
010is a great point is they have multiple places where they can drop off the back by the cafeteria they have >> so who's parking on the one closest to Columbia then the bus drop off >> that would be staffing staff parking so remember we got >> I think they would probably be here earlier so they'll be walking >> correct correct yep and they'll learn I mean we had a parking lot in no where you had to cross the bus lane and our staff figured out pretty quickly. You could come in before the buses came through or you could come in after the buses came through, but if you tried to do it in the middle, it was okay. >> Does a majority of staff park here though, not up here? >> Yeah. I mean, we
011have quite a bit that park in front of the school, but we'll still have some that park out there. There is a walkway. It's not painted on here, but there's a walkway that goes in the middle that's painted. Um, but again, our staff get in 7:15. The buses don't be here till 7:30. So, you know, the work day starts for teachers at 7:15. So, they got to be in the building already by that point. We'll have some staff still coming in. But, um, >> is any of the parking changing down there by the softball fields, like the batting cages down there? >> Yeah, that's changing over here. >> Right there. Yes. >> No. No. That's the same as it is now. >> Yeah. Current current state. What >> what we're kind of giving up is
012some parking in this area right here. Um, obviously that's going to affect baseball, little league, and that stuff, but there'll be some parking still available. So, >> and all of this parking, including the new 35th Street, are all available when they're not in use by us, which in summer. >> Well, my only concern was this past week at Wilbur Wright, there were about 15 buses back here because of the swim meet at the high school >> and then there was also a middle school basketball game. riding three additional buses plus parent parking plus there's a girls basketball game I think that night. So what would we do in that type of situation? >> Well, that's something where again the bus parking lot would be gated. So we can coordinate that with the athletic director that
013all the school buses drop off and they go into that area, >> not back here. >> And I will tell you guys, we work very hard to try to mitigate those buses and tell those drivers from those other schools to park elsewhere on our campus. >> But they Yeah, I know. >> They drop off early, they go to the farthest spot, and then all a sudden it starts spilling in. >> So, and we're constantly hounding the schools, hey, can you move your driver, move your bus? Um, we do the best we can with that. >> Where do the middle school um visitors or like if somebody's picking up a sick kid, where do they park? On the side now or >> hook mark up on that? >> Front in the front. Okay. similar to like
014um at Frank Cage during the day when the buses aren't there, you could use that for uh temporary car parking. >> Just trying to think about the questions we're going to get. >> I asked the same question as we don't have it here, but we do have some diagrams that kind of highlight different. All right. So, inside the building, um, actually, we got some loes again, but um, essentially this is not the footprint hasn't really changed much since the last time we talked. The biggest change being the removal of this sort of Yeah, the sticks bill portion of the building that was off of the pool. Um, really for budget reasons, but that allows most of this entire building to be generos in that kind of custom shape. So, um, but primarily the rest of
015the footprint has stayed the same. Okay, there's a blow up plan. Kind of walk through a little closer, make it a little easier to see. Um, we got second floor is really just the east half or the east quarter of the building. That's the second floor admin suite there. We'll get into some more details here, but just to kind of show you the extent of the second floor in relation to the building on the first floor. Um, so this is starting on the east side. Um, so there's kind of two entry points. There's the this long corridor that runs the length of the multi-purpose multisport buildings. U, so that's really your entrance and access for the multisport. This entrance is primarily intended for admin. Um, we've had a lot of conversation about how these doors
016work. So there's been a little bit of a revision there recently. Um so really at the moment the the intent is that this area gets totally locked down and it's really just for admin. >> It's really two separate facilities. >> Yeah. >> Central office's own facility that is is basically sectioned off. >> You'll have to see after this we'll do a video walk see how those really. So all everything up front is what takes you upstairs to admin and this is taking you to the multiport. Um These spaces here support the multisport as well. There's two locker rooms and two toilet rooms. They're both accessed off of both sides, so the public can access from the lobby or all these can be accessed as well off the the gym space. >> Um, and then the
017other last door is to the weight room. So, this area up here is all for the weight room. Um, that back tan area is the stair secondary stair that goes up to the end of the suite. Uh moving further down the middle portion of the building that's the multisport gym. So that's your basketball, volleyball, tennis, all that. Um that's these outer lines are sized for tennis. So just showing you how big those spaces are. Bigger than your average gym space. Um two storage rooms as well, whether it's for um sport specific or portable bleachers. Um those two rooms there and there's another one that's off the north end there as well. um 60 meter track straightaway along the top there. So kind of interesting part from this line over is the twotory grand space and
018then that end of the runway is actually under part of the admin context on the storage. One of the biggest facilities so much >> those are the size of classrooms. >> When you think about all the stuff that the pits were high, you know, all those things take up a good chunk of room. >> And then the left left half of the plan is the the turf. So again, that's 40 40 yards plus an end zone. So there's technically 50 yards long by a full standard width. There's some additional striping lines on there for other sports, soccer, baseball, softball, kind of just tick marks. Give you an idea where those are bases as well. So it's not full on striping that allows you to do those um sports and events as well with soccer as
019well and some corner kicks and all that kind of Are those are those yard markers? 10 yards. What? >> Yeah, these are quality size. Are there going to be yard markers? >> Um, we did talk about that. Yeah, it's not to this level of detail in this plan, but yeah, we did talk about that. >> Well, one, it's they theirs is very small. >> Very It's very narrow. It's very limited. I mean, we want to balance out the markings with getting it too too busy, >> right? We're going to do a yard numbers just on the north end >> because if you put on the south end, it >> interferes. So, it'll be >> football, baseball, softball, soccer, >> an ultimate frisbee for the kids who want to play. Well, one one thing also is,
020you know, the with the flags and we're throwing the having them be able to throw that in there. It doesn't damage the floor. >> Go over the right on the floor in the gym. It's all those little marks. Those are from when they miss. >> So, this is a great place for them to >> Did you guys say that the the two basketball courts are are lined for tennis? >> Yeah, they're the outside lines. They won't allow tennis to be played on >> and not >> when would we use those for tennis >> like in gym class? >> You could use them in gym class. We can use them for training. Uh we can use them as needed. So um they're multicourt spaces that we can use if we have bad weather, if we have
021training that we want to get done in some of the other parts of the season, we'll be able to use those. When you say that's the tennis line, is that the baseline? >> Yeah, this is kind of the >> How close is that to the storage? >> Uh, probably five or six feet. >> That would be where the fence would be. >> This is the B. This is the base of the ser. >> This is your safety run. >> Okay. >> Yep. >> It's a full size tennis court. Got it. No, I thought he was playing the big lines. I'm like, guys, >> no. That's your That's your >> I got it. I got it. >> Any other questions here? >> This you'll see a lot more. >> So then moving upstairs again. Just want
022to point out that is how it's going to flip in the next sheet to get a little bit closer up so you can see a little closer to some of the details here. Um, so this is that plan rotated just again just to make it a little bigger. This little part is on the first floor. Just a little snippet of the first floor to show you how that relationship works. So there's a lock ve front and then the inner lobby with two elevators and then a stair that goes up and that leads you up to here. Um, we've been talking about security and how these doors lock. This secondary wall may go away. Um, but >> I think yeah, I haven't discussed, but we that's since we're able to section off the whole downstairs now
023and secure that. We that upstairs door is not as necessary. >> So, that's kind of working through the the final details on. Um, so again, that may go away. The rest of the suite is still locked down. There's the main reception area, a secondary door, and a third door. So, the suite is still locked down. >> Then all the key cards. >> There's really no way you could get that wasn't locked. >> Folks coming in for a board meeting would come in. The only place they would have access to are the toilets, board. >> Yeah. So really the intent was to get that um second floor lobby direct access to the board. So the the public function up front here, the two toilet rooms, public access boardroom and the board counter room with secondary access
024off the back of the door as well. Something to point out as well is the windows overlooking multiport. Really cool view putting that on display. Really show off the whole facility. Be much easier to see in 3D. Want to point that out there. spaces. >> Um and then so every other visitor then would come in the pink area there that's the main reception um to the main office. Um the registar the uh HR department there in the light green the business office business finance department in the light blue superintendent at the backside there in the dark blue and the teaching and learning on this um in the dark green. And most houses are pretty um pretty similar. So these things could change over time. There's nothing making this a finance office. There is that flexibility
025just kind of how we have for the current program. >> We just moved our a lot of our exceptional achiever over to this building. Is there room? No, they have their own >> they are director of exceptional achievers assistant director and then that teaching and learning suite is actually where stacies would go. Yeah, there's a few of these open areas that are kind of for assistant or secretary kind of if you want to subdivide those department. So there's one there, one in the middle and one more at the end. It also it also helps let in some natural light since some of these spaces are kind of buried but you'll see when we do walk light at the end of the tunnel to let some natural light everything else um in the orange is a
026multi-purpose or flex office. So those could be conference room frames. I just want to point out this the flex office is for when you know if the speech pad has to come over and they're going to have a meeting. If if Bill has a a financial firm come in and talk to us, we can slide into the conference rooms or the flex spaces. We think we think Sean's going to wind up in one of those flex spaces. Now I go back at the snack area and people's lunches are wind up in those spaces. Those really are for kind of the room of requirement for what we decide and if we grow they could be offices if we you know need it for a different purpose storage whatever they could be auditors too comfortable. >> No
027no we we plan each room >> yeah each room has its own HBAC controls. We plan to set that on whatever the appropriate >> in the board room. It looks like you have what? Seven chairs. We obviously have more. Is that just >> So that would just be the board and Angie. >> Is that the >> That's the current plan in this draft. And then everyone else would sit. We would probably put tables for everyone else in that first row and then set the crowd. But the >> more we we could if if that is really something we want, but the cost of that das for every seat we go gets more expensive. Our team some of our team would be happy to give up their spot and move down to a table. So >>
028help kids, you know, >> yeah, the room is quite it's a good size space. So there's that >> and on that same wall you take out the chairs and turn it 90 degrees to the right pockets where it'll be large display. So then during the day it's turned into area or whatever big space you need to and then they can get up go through the they can there's a there's a door that goes up that they can go pick up a lunch go back their lunch. So we have people there all the time. I know you know you guys the legislators that came to Keriz LGI this would be a perfect space for the entry level drivers training you can host it we want to be able to put regional meetings in this space we
029also want to be able to host many conferences where we use this space PD space the high school and the PD space and the PD center to be able to have multi multifunction And then last the last thing to point out here is that kitchenet space. So there are doors on the other end. So it can kind of serve the office sweet depending on multi closet >> in the boardroom. >> We don't have that at the moment. Um >> probably could. >> You have that bump >> on that back. >> Our thought was we have this large storage room across the hall as well if you want to chairs that kind of thing. Um but we could >> probably work also. That's the tech. >> I've also seen where you put a coat rack right
030outside all the gents on this area. >> I just can't picture how you get off the elevators to the reception area. And then this was just um again one of the things we're trying to work through um the function of the the toilet rooms inside the office. We we started with two and we looked at larger with showers since there is an athletic facility that's set up for us to use. Um this is kind of what we laned in the middle at the moment. Still gives you um an additional toilet room with a shower but doesn't take up that extra flex space. So it just kind of sh I when we were doing this I thought that people in the also want two separate male and female bathrooms but actually people said no I'd rather
031have you might need a space where you have privacy one might be upset and need need a private area to go to I have shower Well, they're individual. These are individual drying rooms. Yes. Right here. >> And this one, if it goes real sideways, you have a shower in there. >> I don't think that upset. >> We just need a private space, >> right? There's a private thing I thought is nursing mothers. How about those glass? >> Those glass walls that we talked about the other day. I thought about we do have nursing mothers currently within here. >> They do need a private space. They don't have to be crying in there, but >> they need a private space and a sink. I think you're >> Yes. >> Yeah. But with the the shower is
032something that once we realized we really don't think two toilet rooms on this side of the suite is enough for the amount of people that are going to be in that area. and counting on the public restrooms is interesting depending on what parents we have in what other people. So, but the shower piece given that the weight room is below one of the job benefits very easily could be you run down you get your workout in over your lunch hour you run shower and you're available day like today we've been in most of us have been in this building at least 12 hours as of right now and so to have the chance to get a workout in get a shower be ready for the board meeting whatever community I've been other school districts will
033be the only room it won't have anything back at the high school then that will be now >> wrestling >> Wilbur right will not lose correct will not lose it quasi >> all right and then we got a Couple exterior shots here. We do have this in the walk through. We want to highlight a few things. Um as part of those um a bunch of things we've been looking at kind of the height of this masonry. So this is previously what we had started as um and then we're also exploring some color options as well. This is just kind of showing those options. We did um the signage is removed for this exact portion of the project. Just want to point that out. something in discussion, but we're not showing it in this current version.
034I think Kim's also working. I think we need to have a larger discussion about who's going to manage. Um, we haven't had a chance to talk to you guys about that, but we need to figure out what is something that makes sense to have you guys do for economical reasons versus what makes sense for us to do not just for economical reasons, but just for control. We didn't we haven't really had that discussion. And our director of communications in a great way and to benefit all of us is very particular about these things. and she decided that she was going to be real nice during that meeting and just let it go. But then she went home and she was like, I can't let this go. It's my whole job. So >> with the town
035permitting and signage, it's a big drawn out process. So we pulled it out of project. >> So it'll be it'll take time. >> A whole separate permitting process gives everyone time to tell what it's going to be. >> Exterior exterior. >> But but we also may want to manage our interior as well. Sure. >> But probably Toronto's will. We'll work through it. All that to say, we have to figure out where that line of responsibilities and part of that line of responsibilities at the fine arts and then over on the back of the bleachers project. >> They charge us every time for >> No, no. They're good about that. And one one place we get charged is when they a big project like this, they have to have their engineers come look at our engineers
036and they have to pay an outside that. But they've been very good to work with a little bit more context, but this is the northeast corner of the building. So we'll go right on the right high school existing building on the north end of the building there. But really just want to show kind of pay attention to this brick line there. That's what we previously showed, but again, a cost more effective cost measure. We looked at maintaining the brick on the front since that's really the prominent front face of the building, but lowering it on the sides down to table height roughly. So, that just lowers the amount of brick, which is more expensive than the metal. >> I'm going to guess that's probably about a half million savings ballpark based on an amateur look.
037Is that is that pretty close? >> It could be. We're going to It's something that we're going to price as an alternate, I think. So you guys have the option to decide what you want to do on those costs. >> That pays for a lot of stuff inside that building for kids. So that's why the break is a big deal. >> And and going through and and having a detailed planning phase where able to kind of identify things what we'll do as an alternate and then you know we've done we've had some pricing come in a little high like oh we're not going to be able to do this. But we've had some come in nice like oh we're going to be able to do this alter this. We didn't eliminate the brick all the
038way down to the bottom just because maintenance, you know, when you start cutting long or shoveling, we don't want to damage the metal when you dent it up. >> No, I think I think it's an incredible compromise based on the metal white. I didn't ask that the other day, but is that metal white or is it more of a >> We don't have exact sle manufacturer actually get it, but the intense is a white or light gray. And that's because it goes with the theme on the high school. >> And then there's one more view here as well. It gives you a little bit more context on the site with the pool edition. That's the original option with the full height masonry versus the lower option. So quite a bit bit different but um still
039makes it still works and just quite cost savings to reduce the amount. >> Can you go back? >> Yeah. So the exterior of that building will be like a aluminum >> metal building. And and how long does a building like that last Right. >> Yes. Over time, like brick building, you don't really have to do much with the brick over time. 25 years eventually the paints and coating on that metal eventually you're going to have to recol I always see us like thinking about like that paint trim on the exterior of the high school >> which is why we have options it's pink it becomes pink >> and then my guess my question is does the cost of breaking that building versus the maintenance of that building offset each other at some point >> or
040is that like shortterm decision ision for a long-term decision. That's my answer. >> Yeah. No, I I appreciate that. The I mean, we're talking six figures for brick all the way up. I think that the codings on the building in 20 years from nowhere near like a shortsighted decision maint I I will add have some say there is no rule about having metal building but if they decide they don't like metal building they just may not vote yes so we do have to be conscious of that >> they allegedly have some not in their code or anything >> but part of that's why we really thought at least >> but if you the number of people that will see it from these sides is significantly less than the number of se people that will see
041it as they drive past on. So the front really is the priority out of all these worlds a little bit more. Um, and then the only thing to point out as well is those red canopies. You do would want to propose using the red just to really highlight those entrances on the left and the middle and that could be a totally different color that would never be paint wouldn't fade really long but you're just looking to highlight those features. Okay, I think that's all the flat images and that can do the walk through which will help quite a bit as well. >> Like the first version because you create an issue as you get up to that create >> the higher you the more structurally. That one kind of fits the context of the adjacent
042building with the higher sections that are metal. >> But that's the side that's least that's least be seen less by our people. I feel like that nobody cared. But that other side is going to be seen >> much more. And that has to be. Yeah, >> that has to be >> that that's the goal is to have a few of these sort of aesthetic kind of finish alternates in here that we have some optionsing through floor. We're probably going to have an alternate in there for that as well. If we couldn't do brick all the way up on the sides, would could we buffer that with another color or >> they said they blend color up to that next that next line in there and then have basically brick an adjacent color and then the
043white at >> look at this mass probably >> and and honestly school board I'm curious to know what what you think because we are going to go out to bid with alternates and if they shouldn't be alternates and this is your prerogative. This is really the time for you for you to tell us. Um but I wanted you to have options. So I'm the one who made sure they put the chair railing thing in because it really is very expensive to to break up and and it offers no structural advantage to this building. This is as much of a public the exterior matters. It will matter. I'm one of five and I'm just saying this that I the more brick the better just in my opinion. I'll take the three days of complaints on social
044media for low brick and then never hear about it again. >> I don't know. I think I I think the longevity of the building I I personally prefer at least the higher up that goes >> we just said like longevity wise I mean if it's is it structural or it doesn't >> I do think we have to >> it has to look nice and >> I agree but I don't I don't think it looks bad >> what I what I want to ask the LA is can you can you go back to the one that wrapped this this guy I didn't see a version of that on the opposite side >> it wraps it goes So when you all three sides would be Oops. There it is. >> There it is. >> It doesn't drop.
045>> When you go to the back side, you have it go halfway down the building and then drop to the lowest course. >> It's Yeah, it's just different because of the hallway. So it's >> kind they bring the whole Thanks, guys. >> Can I ask another question? That island that's right there, is that really an island that's going to be there? >> This one? >> Yes. Or is that just The reason I asked this is because I have three teenage drivers that would pull in there. They would cut over that island and drop the kids off of that door. Those the entrance to the >> gate there's more. >> Yes. No, I'm talking about like >> that's this island right here. You're looking at >> that island. Yeah. Okay. There will not there won't be
046student access. >> But is the drop off? Is this the drop off? >> But what about on the weekends? >> Yeah, on the weekends >> or when they come in for games if they ever do games there. >> This is my concern about that island is somebody's going to cut right through there to drop their kids off. >> I would love to have zero islands. >> I I just think that's going to be >> that was going to require somebody but we're already seeking impairments again. It just feels so >> Do you think there's a chance it could go? >> We haven't had anyone drive over other islands in the district. >> I mean, there's a curve and such there. >> Not that bus driver want to disclose. Yeah. But so legitimately though, if they're
047worried about the snow plows, that's a pretty legitimate reason to try to get a variance because those little that's going to be a nightmare for >> um we have to have a place to stack. >> We we can make it work. I mean, what what do they want? Is it aesthetic? Like what's the town's kind of >> reason for aesthetic green space? You know, you have these big heated black parking lots. >> You guys remember at Wheeler? So Wheeler has that front side of where you can park here and then you can pull around up, but on the other side is the middle school and then there's like a drop off over here. Almost everybody cuts through there to get to the top part here to drop off. That that's my only concern is like
048the other use of like if it really do have a game in there for like bitty ball or other things. >> Yeah. >> Parents are going to >> come through there. I just think that's a thing we have to think about is the actual drop off usage of it at some I know it's not a main drop off but it will be used as >> yeah should be one >> you see what I'm saying that is one way >> one way out >> in in the evening they would come in and they would be able to drop off here and this loops around this >> at least that's >> they're not going to be >> yeah if there's not a gate >> yeah they're going to cut right through down >> they keep the gate
049closed >> if you keep the clos we'll work through that as we go. >> Just something to be aware of. >> And that island right there >> people will cut through. >> We can we can make this as nonversible as we'd like. because it'll be sidewalk, right? I mean, you'll be able >> There is. Yeah. Back to the the brick conversation as far as I I the alternate doesn't prevent you from having this discussion later and deciding, but it puts tangible value to it to know what you're deciding on on a project of this size. is when we're doing alternates, I want to make sure they have meaningful dollars. I don't want to do an alternate that's going to save you $5,000 on a project like this that doesn't make any sense. So trying to
050find chunks that we can, you know, find some significant savings if we need it. That's that's one way to approach it. There's not a lot left in this building to attack. At this point, we've gone very lean with everything. So that I would I would recommend keeping it, having that conversation, let everyone have more information, better decision about the >> Yeah. It's one thing to say no and you don't really know because we're off the budget. It's another to say no when you find out it's a half a million dollars and we probably pause intermittently. We can print out materials. Um this 3D just shows one of the options but interior. Um, so as we enter the multiport, this is their right side. This is that long hallway. So quite a bit of things happening
051here. This is the kind of the hallway that leads to the weight room. quite a bit of display. >> Those are student congregation points. I I don't know if you noticed, but sometimes off to the right here is training room, kind of a remote training spot. Um, so here are those two public toilet rooms. Locker rooms. This is just representational exact. >> How much bigger is it than our current? >> Uh, like 50%. I think the current one's like 5,000. This is 8400. So, >> and then with the weights and the following, we have an acoustical engineer on the project that's designed sound treatments. That weights is actually going to be on a slab on springs. So, and rubber. So, a lot of that sound's going to be absorbed. And then the sound treat. >>
052And I'll be moving the weights from the high school. depends on whether we depends on what we have in the contingency plan. >> I think the high school's preference, you can correct me if I have it wrong, is brand new rates. Uh like any program we want and what I've explained to them is that is not currently in any of our plans. But if we have money left over, everything comes in under budget is something that we will talk about at the end. But at this point, given given brief feedback on the brick and the likely that the town will go to work on us, it seems unlikely that we buy new weight equipment immediately, but I don't know the age of that equipment at some point. It will also need to be replaced >>
053and the expense of moving it, >> the cost of moving is not not that great. I mean, it's that's minimal >> compared to what it would cost us to fill this way.$500,000 away from >> Yeah. I mean, >> we'll be looking at at least two, we'll have to get two new racks to fill this space, just the way it's designed. Uh, but like our weight sets in the middle, the racks that are in the middle, those are two years old. We just bought those. >> The biggest pieces are the racks themselves. But just so everybody's on the same page, we're kind of tight on the budget here. You know, there's a lot of wants and so we have working equipment and we'll just have to plan out. Mike and I've already talked about plans how
054we'll replace rack after rack over time. >> And it's not like we're putting 30y old racks in a brand new space. >> They were purchased in like 2010. So they're not they're not they're not old >> and they're safe. >> Yeah, they're in working condition. Yeah. I mean they're they're not >> there's nothing wrong with it from a physical standoint at the end of this way room. There's two straightways kind of in the middle >> during the day. The class will consist of both utilizing all the spaces you see workout in here. They can go do they take PL boxes out onto the multi-purpose floor. They can take five boxes out onto the turf floor. They can do sprints on the 60 yard track. most of the flooring in this area will be the dark
055and the light and then I just did a small accent strip right along the lines on each side and then in the center there you can see those areas of the logo it's additional acoustic absorbing platforms and we'll put the logo Black and white. around this hallway here. Break up this super long hallway. Right now, we're showing a pretty secondary flooring option just to be able to have that It's kind of the main wall between the two entrance to the multisport of the turf at the other end here. >> Lots of natural light. >> He knew it was there. the >> intention is to let students when they get dropped off the bus. >> No, they'll come in a for security purposes. I mean, I don't have any issue with the weight room being here
056personally. I'm just asking about would it have been less expensive to flip the wrestling and the weighting the high school >> or is there a reason a strategic reason? >> I think from the perspective of the board to put this type of money in, you want every athlete to have an opportunity to use it. >> If we would have tucked the wrestling room down here, I think uh we would have been look like we're spending money in a weird spot. >> Okay. >> And also, so it's not very open space. The other the other issue is is you know the design of modern weight rooms being near these turf facilities because of low impact training but also the space to actually train and we've had an issue at the high school. We're running out of
057space in the center part of that building to do that with our numbers. So we needed to get this weight room near some turf. >> And will PE classes be used in this facility too? >> The weights classes are basically our PE classes at the high school now. I mean we have very very limited PE courses. So but yes they'll I mean PE will be able to use this. Middle school will be able to use this but yeah I mean >> 500 kids are going to our weights program a day. That's the bulk of our physical education in high school. >> That's awesome. Like I said I don't have any issue with it. I just want to know the strategic decision. >> Yeah. With that large of a group touching this building every day. I
058think we're we're putting our best foot forward on who's getting to use it. And you think they'll be fine with the seven minute passing period to get from their current locations to here? >> When we finished that baseball field doing the parking lot, I saw go check out >> upgrade at the high school because there's so many wrestlers now. Well, we're gonna we're gonna we're going to turn the current weight room into an additional wrestling space so we can split up boys, girls, um, and have have a little bit more room for them. Yeah. >> And then just at the end here is where it connects back to the pool. So, these are kind of the two main doors on the west end, but the turf on the left is multi on the right. There
059are lots of divider curves in here to kind of subdivide all the spaces. They're kind of hard to see. So, it's a little easier to see. Um, there's also batting cages as well. There's four black sort of boxes here. >> All these come up and down. at the end here. Padding all the way around the whole lower portion. These are all translucent panel windows for natural light. Quite a bit of natural light. So kind of the the red is really the boundary outer boundary. This is the actual tennis line. Six per court over here is your windows up to the courtroom there. Really good visibility and then all the way at the north end here portion and then it goes down to lower portion thereable seating. available for >> a freshman game in here. It's
060nice adding there's some correct me if I'm wrong. There's some teams that will bring their freshman their JB and varsity. >> We'll look at some lower level events down here. Um but we're going to have limited scoreboard and limited bleachers. So it's just going to be freshman level and down. >> But you'll be able to accommodate that kind of stuff. >> Correct. Ingred, you know already with volleyball you what our current setup you're doubling the time that you're there because you can only do one match and then you do two or two and then one. here. Now you have the >> question I already have. Funny story. Uh, I won't point out the garage door at the end of the track is a nice tool to have for runoffs. >> So, that can be opened
061up and they can run off into the parking lot or out out of the street. Just gives a little bit of a buffer there when they're training so we're not running into a wall and then vice versa, they can run into the turf and have a runoff there, too. But if we're packed in there for some reason and we got to use the turf and there's decent weather, you can always run out. A lot of schools have done that. We've we've looked at some of these facilities that have some runoff space. >> We will right now we're probably going to have to have another person just dedicated to this space here. We already have a person who's doing the MTS current office security. Yeah, it's all connected to the high school. >> It's physically connected
062to the high school. It's not physically connected to the middle school. Go back out and run. We'll go back out and come back in through the different perspective. with a larger canopy. Now here we come in the admin entrance. >> We can we haven't put the >> you said these are these are completely separate there there will be some type of accessibility there. is accessibility if we go into the via key or something if we need to. Otherwise, that's locked up to the public. For all intents and purposes, yes, there are two separate facilities that you had mentioned earlier. >> Right now, this is going to be kind of public. So, anybody that's coming in to go to the admin will be able to walk in and they'll get a video camera. >> So, kind
063of the same setup we have here Paige up to Courtney or whoever is monitoring the phone >> and then she'd be able to buzz me just like she does now. They don't have access. That door right there is locked >> from both sides. >> So, they can't get into this. >> They can't get into work. Nobody from in the school can open the door and let something >> okay. Someone from admin wanted to come in and they >> walk through without having to walk outside. They >> have to walk outside. >> Yeah. So there is access via that but not for the public. It's not like you said somebody can't open the door with their >> should be locked. They can't unless you want. >> So at least you have the options. >> It's just
064more understanding like the physical capabilities of >> Yeah. one of access. >> One of the things that we've struggled with is we had to have we had to have that door originally as with a panic bar because they needed to if they needed to have a wait room. So Rich really did got his pencil out and made some things happen. So we moved that door up so that's not 50 ft anymore. So that has to be as >> it was really important to try to keep that door because we wanted to make it more convenient so that you didn't have to walk outside. >> We've been going back and forth what that door should look like. I I kind of gave him a picture of the whole office where it looks like part of a
065wall. >> We're still going to talk more about how it's going to look. I think having there gives you that flexibility. >> Yeah, you may want to use this. There's a chance to use it off. >> You want to limit the So this is your main lobby. Quite a bit going on here, too. This is the So, it's kind of like a twotory portion that looks up into the That's the main reception area. So, lots of visibility there. Those are the two elevators on the right. We're doing one of the elevators as an alternate. Just so you guys know, the rale behind two elevators is if you have one elevator, sometimes you have no elevator. And these are we have to be in compliance with public access law. So we have an elevator go down
066but I don't know chair lift striker chair pulling people upstairs carries people. >> It's all it's all bad compared to just having a second shaft what we built. It's part of it. It's just a matter of that >> and we can spec it so it's reputable that during the swim meets that kind >> and break it pretty >> and they break and and that was one of the reasons with this door. >> Well, we can lock them though, right? The elevator. >> Yeah. Yeah, we've done that. >> But you have people that need to get up there. >> Not, you know, >> since it is upstairs, we're trying to make it as visible as possible so you know where you're going. >> I was impressed by the software. the detail process we have to have.
067>> I can see >> it's still a little slower today. >> So when you get up here, if you turn to the right, you have to card in and this would be the public facing to the left. Yeah, >> that's kind of your secret back door for staff. >> So the staff comes up and they just get in their office. >> And then this wall is what we talked about removing possibly that's part of the discussion from the door. Ideally, we would remove this sectioned off >> and it opens up that that too >> because during the we didn't want you saw the swim meet this weekend. You have a wrestling meet. You got kids that got two hours of nothing to do. They start wandering into this area. >> So we want to be
068able to secure down and keep it as its own facility that shares a space with the other. But either way, this brings you up to the same access point here right across the kind of boardroom. There's those windows over sport. So, I get a really cool view there. >> Yeah. >> So, we put up glassboards in the professional development space. People if you're working and collaborating and developing breakout sessions there then you can turn those >> those chairs 90 degrees and now you have a professional development in place. There'll be pockets where you can plug in your HDMI or plug in a microphone. So, Chris could be up there podium presenting from the the professional development side on that long wall and then there'll be pockets up in the front where you can plug in
069the microphones >> compared to all of the other spaces in this building. This is this is literally your house. So, if you have any questions or thoughts on the room or the setup, >> let us know. >> Well, I I just like the fact that it's it's still multiunctional. Like, somebody might see that and say, "That's ridiculous. Why'd you put all those chairs for a board meeting?" Like, that's you weren't thinking ahead. It's like, well, no, this is also a presentation space. It's a PD space. It's >> And we also said we probably wouldn't have all the seats out for We only have like the front half of it probably tables in the back. >> The storage were right across the hallway. We were able to move things in and out >> and that's up
070there. You have storage really do anything. >> This is Max. This is Max lecture. >> For a board meeting, we'll have our admin tables up where those first few rows are and we won't start the room until the middle. And I think we'll still have standing room only at the back. I mean, I don't think our I don't I don't know that our intention is to give us significantly more seating capacity than we have now unless you know it's going to be. But the nice part is we can swing chairs out more people show up. We have the ability to accommodate more >> and we have space now in the rest of this area for on boarding of new employees, interviews, um talking to parents really needs a a sweet area where you can meet
071with employees on board. >> I mean you do all that. >> Yeah, they do all those sorts of meetings in the PD center now that even this space so that we can get more employees in for example our our our 401b provider is about to change. We could have every teacher in the district come in shifts like five by five level. conference rooms accessive sessions. >> Where did you guys land on our debate of where to put that? I'm curious. Blackout, right? >> Right there. And then we have a remote power switch down presentations or anything. gives you some options. >> And then out across the hall here is that kind of a transaction window. all day. >> Just grab and go. >> Or you have a coffee maker up there. >> The table changes
072from last So this would be the non board events coming here access to public access. That's where Courtney would and if you turn you mind. Thanks. Yep. Still have the public display which is so much more popular than you would ever know. Like anyone who gets caught kind of waiting to meet with one of us or whatever, they become transfixed on that day. I still want to take a look at a few more options, but >> our mechanical closet our mechanical closet doors are instead >> it Yeah. All right. >> This is just We're still looking at some options on these doors, but just to kind of give you big hall there with some windows at the end. kinds. >> We have I think the floor plan is easier to demonstrated on. But if you
073look if we were having an expulsion examination, we would probably do it in this conference room. >> If we needed to have another party, we could put them in one of these flex spaces or one of these conference rooms. So this is uh part of my part of my suite is a conference. There is there's my conference room. There's a conference room down here for HR. So we have spaces within the the building that we need to separate. Great question. It sounds like just from what Colleen was saying, little silly things like, oh, the table's different. I know that like that that the staff has had a ton of input on this down to that kind of minutia level of, you know, where you want some of those things and how you want them to
074look and you know, you guys are going to be living here. We're going to be here once in a while. But I think that's something to consider from our end, too. I mean, we want to ask these questions. A lot of this is for for public, you know, facing. why'd you do that or how'd you do that? Um, but I think it's important to know that they've really spent a lot of time because this is going to be there every day. Um, so I think aside from some some of the aesthetic exterior things and we'll discuss it, but >> yeah, it looks great. And like I said, layout wise, I think it's more important to get their feedback and there you guys your guys input on this than ours, you know, as long as you're
075happy. I like the addition of that board. So you could post some of the required things that we're supposed to post on that. I just saw there's a board outside of your area. >> We we have not discussed it. >> I don't even know what the usage is. Like I couldn't tell you how many staff members Yeah, they use it quite a bit. >> Yeah, they all do. Yeah, they do afterwards. >> So, I think the middle I think the middle school PE classes use it a little, >> but they one of the things that is true is this big wave room is closer. Again, Morgan and Boyon would have to work through the logistics of how to share, but I came from a smaller place where middle and high shared one traditionally considered high
076school weight room and it was beneficial to both parties. So, that's something that we could work through if there's an appetite for it. I couldn't begin to tell you what our middle school uh athletic department or PE department really desires. Like I Morgan, I don't know if you guys have even had preliminary. >> Well, we run a futures program that brings over the middle school kids before school in the mornings and that is filled up every every session. So that's two and three days a week. Uh so middle schoolers are in there before school. Um capacity wise, I mean it would be very difficult, but there could be some times where we share the the weight space, but traditionally they haven't done that. They just don't have the knowledge and the experience at that developmental
077age to do those things. They're doing more PVC pipe, air squats, push-ups, crunches to develop as opposed to picking up weights. So, it's not really conducive developmentally for them to be in there. But we can use the turf space to do those things and build those skills before they ever transition into the weight room. So to answer your question, we haven't really >> come upstairs >> and you come out of the elevator up the stairs. Would it make more sense to have these doors here than here? >> Because right now it seems like it's open. You would get down this hallway. You get into the kitchen. would be secured down there. >> We can't >> ideally Yes. But you that's your second mean. So you have that free passage to that love to get out.
078>> But all of this and all of this >> you can't get back around. This is this is where the door is. So you can't get back around to any of this. You're right. That kitchenet is exposed. They can come to it from this side. We can lock those doors. >> So >> those doors will remain locked until we >> Yeah. We can lock we can lock both of these and and our people can use this entry. I mean it's right next to >> it's Yeah. But I think I think we also noted that and had a conversation about it and we knew the egress thing. I just don't like people. >> No, understand. >> But it sounds like you guys already. >> We don't either. >> Open finance. These guys even measured all of
079our equipment work. Yeah. Furniture wise, are we going to use what we can and then you'll have to buy some? We >> Yeah, >> we've got I think you guys have put in the budget to give the office. >> Yeah, I mean I know there's some stuff you could use, but a big that's a much bigger space and there's a lot of things you're just gonna you're just going to need to get new. We haven't had this conversation yet, but just so we are exploring different options for what those office doors and windows look like. >> Yeah. But all of these things too, like you know, there's aesthetic challenges, but also those doors are cheaper than those doors. over a lot of doors. It's a huge savings, you know, and it's like the glass doors
080are are, you know, significantly cheaper than I kind of like the one on the right. It gives us natural light. >> Yeah. The trick is >> option two. >> It kind of gives you a little privacy. Uh we still get that natural light that comes in. That's the thing. I hear it from everyone. >> Window. A lot of people are doing that >> the problem is >> the stuff we have you can't make all you can do on these windows things slow the progression through so these won't be bulletproof >> but they're that I voice that >> still trying to work A lot of security. >> Yeah. >> Again, I think some of the some of these aesthetic choices are going to be more kind of the staff needs and the staff wants versus me
081as a board member going, I don't really think we should have this. I'm like, I'm not in there with like, you know, >> well, one of the things you talked about was actually wind up having all glass. you kind of lose use of that wall option to get you get the natural light. >> Oh yes, >> do you want to talk through each of the samples that you brought kind of where they'll be and maybe have a little show and tell on on those pieces so that you guys can see carpeting choices are going to be and uh some of the flooring treatments and some of the paint colors in the building. >> Sure. So starting on this side. So I started on the administrative side over here and then when you progress over we
082move into the mult center. So we have all this tile and restrooms. This is the floor and then this is the wall tile. And then I put in the administrative. will be your toilet partition. It's plastic, highly durable. It's going to last you for 50 years. >> I am working with the staff to not graffiti. I have a large stock. Thanks to the room back in any case that we're seeing throughout the rest of the space will be all down so you don't have to worry so much about we're going to doz as your first option and then I'm thinking polish concrete alternate. Um we're still working through that to see you know any resilient doesn't seem durable enough. So polish concrete makes a little sense to me. Um but we'll let you know what
083options. Um we have epoxy going in your locker rooms. and the training room on the first floor. This one will be for the locker room and restroom. This one a little bit more. That's for the train. Uh we're doing wall tile and pattern in first floor. Yes. So it goes up just wall just to add some durability and some interest into this space. The rest of the walls will painted black and then in the lock bench top. So again, it's really durable. You don't have to worry about graffiti or anything like that. Metal lockers and then multi flooring. It's rubber type material. It's not going to be wood. We have some wood ceilings. It's actually made of metal. easily accessible. You can pop the tiles up. So, you don't have to worry about >> Does
084it have a grid? Just like >> it does have a grid. >> I have not seen those. That's really cool. >> Where is that? >> The admin lobby. >> Okay. And then when you go upstairs, you can see that >> cool. That was wonder, how are we going to access that? >> And then all of those benches that you saw, I'm going to find a wood tile that matches the other durability there. And then the interior will be solid surface. Feel free to take a look. >> Sean, do you want to mark any watching? >> I took my keys and utility knives to it. I didn't bring my blow torch, but I >> we throw somebody that I bought a house from had three boys and they dropped silverware on their vinyl tile and damaged
085it. So when I put LBT in at work now, we throw scalpels and silverware at it and whichever one lasts >> two I can upgrade our color choices. >> What feedback, if any, does the board have for DLA or for us as we consider taking this out to bid very soon? >> Do we have any requirements for fire resistant wallpapers? I see a miss on the wallpaper a lot. It sounded like just the facade was the only issue. >> I mean, you guys are great. Other than that, I don't there's nothing that's >> there changes you've incorporated. >> That's great. >> And the town the town may make it not optional and you may make it not optional and that's fine. But I know that if we get away with the smaller course of brick
086then waits this back on the table for Morgan and the kids. So >> you're also looking at it. It doesn't have any I don't know what the the plan is site plan is for landscaping but you guys are looking at the building. >> There's green space along that long along that long side. So you can break that up with landscaping. It's not shown in the photos, but >> that could be easily broken up. >> They have their landscape. >> Well, I think also signage and branding and all those things are going to make a difference as well. Like it's kind of hard to look at the the gray on gray, you know, because of course you see the red like, oh, it's gray. Yeah, that's going to fade. We had a giant process. >> Yeah.
087And it's we can do that. >> But I'm just saying that because I know those things will make a difference, too. You know, it's like, oh, this looks terrible. just like a big >> side. And I right now rules that campus rules about signage and light so that we can survive our own signatur things like that. >> We're going to show red numbering sequence building it was a whole >> it was a huge project but when you look at at a room it means something. So when you get to a room like this electrical So that number there that we're able to identify first responders understand what's >> PA system or whatever >> PA systems all be uh over internet so has a very good plan. He's very thorough about how he lays it out.
088So, we have the the just drops right into a 2 by two grid, plugs into a cat 56 runs back and then it holds an IP and >> goes right into I've learned a lot about all that drops right into same thing with cameras. It drop those drop right into a 2 by two bridge and run back to the idea. The fire alarm is going to run off panel or >> I think because it's connected, it'll run off the >> So when I do a fire drill, you'll have to leave the building. >> This might sound like a stupid question, but the kids are aligning the hallway. Like let's just say they're lining up to go leave the building. Okay, so they're all lined up and they're plug they want to plug in their laptop
089before they go to the next class. They're going to have outlet somewhere, right? Or some code. >> Ton of them. Okay. I just want to be sure. So, I always think there's never enough outlets. >> So, under the benches, they'll have USB >> USB chargers. >> Okay. Thought I'd ask. >> And traditional plugs like at an airport >> always want to plug those laptops in to charge them before they go somewhere else. >> Phones. They're not charging. >> They are charging their laptops. It takes my kids. >> Yeah. teacher and she said she actually had a kid write a paper that was written completely on the phone with >> Oh, I believe it. >> And she goes, "It's pretty good paper." >> I believe that >> we talk a lot about design, but we did
090we do have a sound engineer on a project with the sound transfer in terms of way down and an audio. So, the boardroom is as big as it is, you're going to be able to hear clearly. You're not going to have technical problems or anything. A lot of it is going to be kind of just self-supported >> and making it a useful professional development space. Again, I'm not criticizing the folks that put this room together because it does do almost everything we want. But one of the downfalls to this room is if we wanted to break off and work in groups, the only TVs that are usable are that one and that one. These other TVs you can't do anything with. They're are plugged into the main system only. This space we can do breakout
091sessions. People can move over. They can take over a TV. Our employees people can do professional development in there. It's going to be a state of the art being people and stuff. And people are your teachers and you have a place where you can professionally develop it. Your stuff is any any monster athlete or student is going to be able to reach their peak. Great things. You got a kid. able to get home. >> I mean, I think a great point. What if you say you wanted to have like five teams on here at a time? >> I mean, obviously, the goal with with the the design of the facility was to be able to get all of our athletes through earlier in the evening so they could get home as opposed to having groups
092coming in at 9:00. And really now, January, February, March is the toughest time of the year for us with our current fieldhouse alignment. Girls basketball's over now, but if they've gone another week, you know, indoor track has started full swing. Baseball has their, you know, conditioning, softball has their conditioning. Um, you know, we still have boys basketball going on. We have eight wrestlers still competing for semi-state. Um it's, you know, we have a lot going on in February and it's it's a tough month to get everyone through. So >> that's that's the bigger story to tell rather than, you know, like what we decide on the facade. It's like why did you do this? You know, the proverbial why why did you why aren't you paying teachers with that money? Which we know the answer
093to, but you know that that's going to be the question like this is a waste. This was a this was a luxury. You didn't need it. And to have those reasons to tell the sir, no, we do. and and you know >> yeah having kids come back to the high school at nine o'clock during on school nights five days a week is >> inappropriate kids >> and another big point is this goes back to doing this through last year we touched every academic space in the district updated flooring we've updated lights we've updated data we've updated everything in the academic space >> and ours Mhm. >> Extensively. So, it is time to touch this and and you know, competitively other districts have done this. And >> I mentioned it before, it's like you said that
094it's like, yeah, but right now if you're like, if I'm moving, I I'll drive another half hour to work. I'll go to Crown Points. They got the facilities for my athletic kid. You know what I mean? That's a consideration. So, every school district we compete against around Indianapolis has put in new weight rooms recently and it's been their biggest draws and and we need to refresh ours and this is our opportunity to do that. >> Nolesville just opened theirs few weeks ago. I mean, we could go through the list. I mean, it's Indiana has become big on these weight rooms because they know the athletic competitive advantage and and and we've got to keep up with the Joneses a little bit. >> Are there any other questions from the board? Is there anything else you
095guys need to tell us? Thank
