001Okay. All right. Work session board of trustees to order. Show that all are present. >> I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> [clears throat] >> Put the real fast. Sorry. Make sure we didn't miss what happens here tonight. There [clears throat] are a lot of exciting things happen. I want to kind of go over a timeline view all what we've been doing so far in the last year. We've been working with architectural u and I know I want to you're up against a hard time right >> you're up against a hard time of So you have to add anything. >> Yeah. You could just speak up just a bit because
002the mic's behind you, Sean. >> Okay. >> Go ahead. >> Turn around. So I just want to kind of talk about the timeline of a few things we've done over the last year and what we're going to Rich has much more detailed presentation but I first introduce you Rich is one of the his specialty is auditoriums and field houses. So he brings a lot Brian has been the project lead and Keith has been on this We talked a lot about the day. Ed Wright, he's principal PLA and kind of overseas. Great work with PLA. They're here all the time. I spent more time with my family. Uh with Brian and my family the last week and a half. So kind of talk about the timelines. I do have draft on here because everything has been
003changing uh based upon this towns of different items. But you get into it. Uh the parking lot we across the street putting back some items to do the day and that prior to shut it down. Uh the tennis facility we're that's been awarded. U we're getting contracts ready and we're looking to start that moving towards the spring. The contractor Pier will starting water and some of the equipment and things will lead to that project. Uh the traffic flow um we'd like to get that going in March because ultimately we have to have we have to refer some things around. We need a place to park the buses in order We need to vacate the tennis courts. We need price department buses. So, we need to move some things around in order to set conditions for
004the following project for uh new multi-purpose building and for central office that we need. So, and again this this is January 27th, 2025. the design of this. This is just big pieces, but it kind of tells a story about how much we've been talking with all the stakeholders in there. We've been talking with students, we talk to the staff, the coaches, uh, and try to get a master plan of the improvements to the school district right off. Uh, you can see here where uh the tennis courts uh and that design is completely different than what we had new multi-purpose uh and then we've determined that we're going to coate central office into uh the new multi-purpose building. If you look across the street on Columbia, you can see that we've made a new utility field.
005So, soccer and baseball use that use that outfield and wrapped up that parking lot. Uh and then we're going to create that track. And I kind of talked about this the athletic parking improvements. Uh that's that is complete. We completed that for just under just over 1.5 million. Uh we completed the here's what department looks like. So that's going to add another 100 spots for different events, different sporting events, different school activities by either the high school, middle school students be uh I I'll frame it this way. I I build it principles running. The intent right now talking to Mr. M. The intent is not to, but if there were for some reason some sort of event or some one time thing, there could be some reason now for athletic events. It's perfect storms where
006we have swimming going on. We have theater event going on doing something. you throw in a little league game park gets to I think when we did host the sectional basketball game was all the way down. So this is going to break rely uh relieve that that stress that we have on the parking uh the tennis facility again we want to get that going in February and with completion in in uh end of July of 26. Um we're at 3.765 million and this will be these will be post tension concrete courts. Um, so we what's not included in there that I will do is I have to paint the courts and do that separately. Um, and not [clears throat] not with Pangier as the contractor. So you can kind of see how we had a
007bunch of different designs. Right now this the this is 10 courts, not 12. Um, and this is kind of a overview of what it would look like. So the last thing that I sent to the board was that it was owned by a different group, but you did some subsequent research that said it may in point of fact be owned by BP. >> BP. Yeah. >> Yeah. because on the ALTA survey going back to the 70s it said NIPCO um originally and then but but looking there's some uh there government websites that I looked at and it looks like it's u I think it's jet fuel that goes up to a hair. >> What so I know there's a bunch in Highland and Earth that are being shut down. Do we know if this monster
008one is >> I don't know. So that's what I think we should find out because it might give you guys more flexibility and the builders and construction if we know because there are developers in Griffith and Highland that said they've been contacted by BP to tell them that those pipes are being shut down. These might be coming towards us. So >> those so I don't know the geography well you know you know But I'm wondering if all if that pipe is between the refinery and the airports like I don't know if Highland and Griffin Griffith are geographically in the same >> it would be but again >> it's even the same kind of fuel in those pipes that are being shut down >> because I got a notice but it wasn't about jet fuel it
009was a leaking pipe that they're gonna reurface or something like they were going to resurface and now they're just going to shut it off and then reroute. >> Yeah, that's the thing. I don't know. Let's find out. >> So, we just call the location service and they'll tell I'll dig into it. >> Okay. >> Uh traffic flow. And so, we've come up with a a bunch of different ideas. I mean, this thing might have changed a couple times since we we've last talked. Uh but we're we're talking with um you know the principles. I'm going to sit down with the SRO's. We sat down with maintenance folks to kind of get because we got to push snow somewhere. But we're looking at uh creating this additional parking. But essentially what we want to do is
010uh create some larger linear distances to get more of our traffic off of Columbia. Um, so we'd have the ability to queue people to come in, drop off, and then go back out and they can drop off in this area and come back out. Um, or they can drop here. Uh, we drop here. This would be the new bus parking lot. So, we could pull come in. We have a separate line with a gate right in this area where we could come in. We're going to park facing this way in the morning and and then we can release all at once. Then all the students from the middle school go over there and then we've created some large sidewalks so the students can come over and cross over into the high school. >> Is that
011on top there by the right basketball courts and play area? >> Uh that's another thing. So this this uh that's a great point. This road here would be going in the current. So we making them a new playground and that's something that they've wanted to have for a few years now. >> So that road's just connecting it. We're not using that for traffic flow and use it. >> It gives us the flex flexibility if we wanted to that these these folks can pull in here and then go out and we're looking at making this uh just a righthand turn here so they can't turn left to slow down the car as exiting. >> Right. So John White if I'm coming like >> yeah you go through the south lot >> Wilbur Rice they're going to
012have two uh places they can come in they can come in on 35th they can come up on Colombia they can come down on Columbia, they can come in at stall room and drop off, come down to the light and leave, or they can come up and turn in and drop off in the back and then go back out. So, the second option is more advanced now. You go around the west side of the high school. Right now is what they're doing is they're coming up the west side of the high school. >> Yeah. and they're going and they're coming here and they're dropping off and they're coming back out or unfortunately sometimes they they mingle in because right now the buses come in and drop off here then turn around and then drop off
013at the high school which I I personally don't like because we have a lot of moving parts and we're working on doing a different drop off procedure. So yeah, currently the people that drop off here are coming up from the south and they still could technically come up from the south and drop off here and then go back down. >> We had Yes. Put a gate. We were going to put a gauge in it. >> Um yeah, we talked about putting a gate so this could be blocked off if we wanted to or >> Yeah. Right there. Right there. >> Right there. Yeah. So parking in the front of river right it's where >> parking in front of Right will go right here. >> Okay. So in the morning it would be impossible but during
014the day they just walk across the bus parking area. >> Yeah. And there's a sidewalk for pedestrian flow from that parking lot to the building even when the buses are there. Is that middle area parking lot right there? Yeah. Or sidewalk. >> Sure. They'll have they'll have access to the building even as the bus sees >> that like human that like the visual where the buses can go in one way and then people park on the other side. the buses coming in that front parking lot and that's a project we did a couple years ago where we moved the dumpster and by moving that dumpster we that freed up we had a a I think she does the fourth grade back there and then she also has on the east side that she's able to
015do that it's tough right here because we getting curb cuts with the town is is difficult and they always tell you um when you're trying to lose weight you don't uh add a loop to your your belt. So getting a curb cut is difficult with the town. So it's something we we're trying to explore. >> So the high school bus riders would be dropped off at the middle school then or where they >> Yes. They would drop we would come in, we would pull in here. I'd like to start doing what a lot of schools do is they pull in within a 10-minute time frame and we could do that and they just stay there. the kids stay on the bus until we release and we release all at once. The reason I want to
016do that, it's less moving pieces because right now um you can kind of envision we come in here, we drop off, so the buses are stacked here. You got kids getting off, you'll have a parent sneak in and they get behind the buses and then they'll try passing a bus and you have a bus coming south. Um, so the big thing we wanted to do here is completely two separate drop off areas because right now a lot of people will get behind the bus and sneak in and then it it creates more moving parts. The kids that get the high schoolers that get dropped off, where's the walkway? >> They would have a walkway, right? Okay. So, they can get in here. They can get in here. And remember that multi-purpose building, they're going to
017be able to come in probably through an entrance in there. Yeah. Slide right into the building there. So, they won't be outside as as far as it would be. >> Yeah. Right now, if you looked at the bus lot is right here. So, it used to be all your middle schoolers were walking out this way, coming to the bus, walking out this way, coming into the bus. Now, the high schoolers, now the middle schoolers are right there. The middle schoolers have it's a little less distance to walk. So, this kind of shows the phasing of it. This is our current layout. like like I was saying, area one and area two, we really need to get this moving so we can get uh the parking lot established for August 2, 2026. And then this area,
018we're going to have to do another season on these tennis courts because the other ones won't be done. So this tennis season, the state finals is June 13th, the 26th. [clears throat] So after that is over, our graduation is a week before we can turn area three and area 4 over and start construction. So, the multi-purpose building, this number has gone up, it's gone down. We've combined the uh central office into it and we anticipate that would be a savings about 1.1 to $2.1 million by colllocating them. Um, so we right now we have the hard cost of 23 million and then u architectural fees is in that $2 million. So, we have 25 million budgeted right now. Can >> I ask a quick question about the parking? Um, how how is are we losing
019any spots? Are we gaining parking spots? >> Uh, I think that I have those numbers. It's a net increase of >> 100 additional partners. what we're showing currently is 100, but I think we're going to dial that down, but it still will be a net gain. We're probably going to be in that uh 30 to 50 range. >> And that does not include the new 100 spots in the parking lot that it's just so by the time we're done with this, we'll be up over. And I I think it's a good point for me to turn it over to Rich because again we have had so many discussions and the mechanical meeting generated a lot of good discussion about moving things. We tried we did look to say hey we have the energy center. Can
020we tap into that? Do we have the capacity in which we could utilize um the existing boilers and chillers? But we don't. Um so this this uh presentation is is leave my microphone on. >> Yeah. I didn't stop sharing. get our design. Kyle asked me, "Guys, I'm going to say this so you guys can weigh in on this. They won't be able to take the 3D walkound that that we talked talked about." And and what they explained to me was you've got to get a little bit tighter on the design. And then once we lock in some of these elements like where the where the power plants going to be, what our office layouts are going to be, then that is something that they can put together for us once we get to that point.
021And they're very close to that point. Um, but they just need a little more answers out of our team, I think, to be able to put together that. >> We're very close in a couple seconds. >> Okay, great. Okay, I see. Right. Good. >> And we had a we had a just a few hours ago. Uh so things are still in motion. We're still working through things, especially after yesterday with the mechanical conversations. But give you an update where we're at. Um so basically everything on that top rectangle is a pre-manufactured or pre-engineered metal building. Um the rest of the portion down here, this small area is kind of stick built since it's such a weird shape. It's kind of, you know, got to be custom made for those um weird shapes. But the pro
022majority of it is in that pre-engineered metal building. So the left twoirds basically up to here, that's a twotory full volume twotory space. That's the the multi-port portion. The left half there is a is a turf. So um synthetic turf indoor and that's a 50 yard deep by a full width. So it's essentially half a football field. uh 40 plus an end zone. So almost half a football field, 50 with hands. So up to there is all uh turf. Then the middle part is the multisport. That's more of a um you uh multiport athletic flooring. Not real wood, but it' be like a rubber with vinyl or rubber or vinyl. Still working through that. But um the big outline you see there is tennis courts. So it's a size for up to two tennis courts.
023That's probably the biggest size. As you can see the basketball volleyball in the center but shorter uh but basically it's can fit up to the full range of every the outside boundary needed for tennis. And then up at the top is a 60 meter running track. So it's just a straightaway not a full not a full track but still gets them uh enough distance to do the sprints and the standard indoor 60 meter race. Um, so kind of the left half of the track is is full twotory. The right half is actually under the under the second floor. Basically everything from this line over is a actual two-story portion of the building. Um, so upstairs is the admin, which we'll talk about in a second. And then the rest of everything down there is athletic.
024Basically everything in red is the athletic space. Um, so over on the right side there's a new main lobby here that's kind of a secured entry that goes up to the admin. There's a grand open stair as well as an elevator that goes up um right there and it's meant to be locked down so no one coming in admin can't get into the rest of the school. Um then back just beyond that is a couple public toilet rooms and locker rooms. The locker rooms will serve the wait room during the day or and then athletics after after hours. Um that big space is a weight room 8,500 square feet. So it's about size one and a half times what they have now almost two times. Um so it's a it's a really nice new facility
025for them. And then a couple other storage rooms off the multi-port. One of the recent developments that came up as of yesterday was putting some mechanical space up above that. So we'll see that as well in the next um next slide. And then down here again this is kind of a connection piece to connect back to the school. Uh so this is kind of the end right where the pool uh the pool wing starts to where the door is just to connect a straight shot into the new building. Um up at the top there's dance studio that's the full size they need the little dash box inside there's the full size they need for their competition. Next to that is a golf simulator room that's got two fullsize golf simulators in there. So it's size
026for that. And then the this little triangular piece is the a new location for the athletic office. Um so that covers the floor. >> I have three questions. >> So are we keeping the weight room at the high school as well as this an additional weight room? >> No. >> Okay. >> What they want to do is uh one of the biggest sports that's going in Indiana is girls wrestling. So right now they are they would like to convert that into additional wrestling space. >> Okay. >> And how many they have 60 on one squad and >> I think right now u I'm speaking for Mike but they are I've been there after school they are having different stages of practice. I think calling right from after school probably till I'm guessing here but like
027six o'clock at night because they have so many people. >> So and this gives us the flexibility because we we could hang uh happen to have a mat hoist that we could put there. So they could have a mat here if they wanted to have a match here. um if they wanted to put some seating in that weight room, they could do matches in there and it just frees up that that uh the gym now cuz that's one of the things it's you're always competing for space and who's going to get priority. So now you have a wrestling meet so now the basketball has to get off but if you were able to house that inside that additional room it gives us that flexibility. >> Second question is the 60 meter track. So, is there
028is there a wall at each end of those 60 mters >> because it's not super functional if you're >> they can run off onto the turf. >> Yeah. The other end. It's all netting. >> Okay. >> Yeah, that would be intended to have to run this way. There's a garage door at the end, but >> yeah, >> probably more feasible. Yes. To have them run that way and have them run off. >> Okay. Um, that's one thing we always have large pieces of equipment or they may be moving some of the uh the pits around and just having the ability to have a garage door and get in and out of things. >> There are divider curtains uh kind of hard to see but to split to separate the turf and the gym and then
029the gyms from each other or the courts from each other as well as from the track. Kind of hard to see, but >> and then last question is if um the high school students on the bus are cutting through that building, what path are they taking? Where where how is that? How would that work? >> They would they'll be coming right off of here. Walk right down there and come right in here. Go to [snorts] door right here. Right now, this is the door they're coming in. >> You got a few options as well. You could they could still cross here. Yeah, you do have a couple. I don't think I don't think they have door G opened in the morning. >> Buses don't drop off there. >> We we don't drop off there now.
030Um but I don't I don't know if that obviously the way we run the school have may have to change a little bit on where they're coming in. >> Yeah, multiple options. And I should point out too, there are kind of two separate entrances. We're envisioning one just for athletics to keep them kind of out of the the admin in case you want to keep that a little nicer and keep it locked down. Um, so it gives you the couple options as well for that. >> So the the middle court court area that is multi-purpose and that other sports can use it. >> Yeah. Basketball, volleyball, wrestling, dance, cheerleading and all of them that space. >> So how do the tennis nets get in? So Erland had So True Blood Fieldhouse at Erland has tennis
031nets and they're on casters. You roll them in, you lock them in place. >> Okay. >> And you play with them and then when you're done, you unlock them and roll them back out of the way. >> And then, you know, volleyball probably have the post and the I don't know if the basketball goes will roll in or if they'll be attached to the ceiling. So everything is movable and and and >> different teams throughout the year can use different parts of it depending on >> Yes. Yeah. you're going to be a foot of snow out and the golf team's playing Pebble Beach on a single and they're and they're getting, you know, or there's two feet of snow and the baseball teams getting because there's going to be nets that come down over the
032turf area and they're getting 200 swings in on a day where it's below >> and can play reasonable catch indoors. I can tell you as a baseball coach myself that time of year the grass is terrible, you can't be on it. We'd like to play a catch on a parking lot somewhere, but there's always a car there. And now they can go in there and if they hit a curve on the ball, nobody cares. >> Been talking with the the baseball and softball and soccer, they they in athletics, we are pretty good with hardwood basketball space. This just takes a lot of people off it. Dance doesn't have to go on to the gym floor. They'd have their own space. Now, um, if you wanted to have, this is a perfect place that you could
033have a, um, freshman basketball game. So, now you're doing freshman JV, varsity, probably one night. Um, the the soccer team, the big thing is they want to be able to do corner kicks. So, now they can practice doing their corner kicks. And another thing we talked about doing is putting a huddle camera in there. So, now they can film themselves and then go back and watch them and and see how they're doing. And you know they can it's this place where they can obviously practice but then they can go and see how they're practicing. >> Rich. >> Yeah. The the field what is it lined for? Football obviously yard yard marks. >> Yeah. So and this is early still. We're working through the details but at the moment yeah it's got the football there. There's
034baseball and softball and they mentioned soccer. The soccer would be and how exactly we do it. We got to work it out whether everything's striped or not. You know, we may do tick marks for certain things. Um, we got to get to that level of detail like for the, you know, the pitching mounds, you know, exactly how we do that is our next step to kind of work through. Got it. >> Um, you know, exactly how everything what color. >> Yeah. Question other questions. >> Is that enough storage? I feel like there's have enough storage. That's something that we talked about at Nauseium about, you know, where can we get more storage >> where, you know, and and you're going to see that too when we go upstairs because that was a big thing of
035record storage of having enough office space. So, that was that was another key component of of storage for central office because and it'll be nice for me because if they can't store it like Shauna, can you go push this at the service center? >> That'll be in the next step, too. We have a list from uh from the athletic director with very specific requirements on each sport. We're going to try and lay out each one and maybe even subdivide it more. might end up being four rooms instead of three, but we're certainly looking at and part of it is one of the advantages is, you know, a high jump pit, bault pit, they're very expensive and we get we use them in the spring and they, you know, they sometimes sit out during summer and
036kids use them or they don't use them and they just get weathered. This facility, their storage, that stuff all comes in here. They can use it pre-season in there. we can store it in there most of the year so that we're not it should elongate the duration of those pieces of equipment that that can be most expensive especially those pits for attracting and then with the parking lot project we just completed that we added on storage there and and we're going to we're being a better neighbor because that stuff was getting left out weeds were growing around it because it was hard to mow now we get all that stuff inside it's going to be much easier for us to maintain the the in once it's paid, we don't have to know that. >> We'll
037get into more detail, but just to kind of show you where that second floor falls, u basically that right third of the building, as I mentioned, um this will be that additional mechanical space that we just kind of um worked through adding today, yesterday, and today. How does that compare to the existing? >> That's more space. >> We're right now about 8,000 square ft and this is 21,000 square ft. So it's we're doubling it >> bigger. We're bringing I mean we're bringing exceptional achievers in but we imagine Sean and part of his team can utilize that flex space. We are we're [clears throat] building more um professional development capacity so that we have a PD center which is great but even when we hosted the Lake County superintendent when we get over a certain size
038get squeezed in there and if you guys have been in the Crown Point uh central office they have that great PD space that is multiple rooms that have these dividers that buy you some some crowd capacity. That is also part of the vision is to be able to hold some some larger PDS um in this space in addition to what we do for board meetings. Okay. So to walk you through a little bit closer detail on this. This is the upstairs plan. This is rotated just to make it fit as big as possible on the sheet. So the left half here is the second floor. This little bit u is the first floor. Really just to show you how the first and second floor relate since you are up on the second floor for admin.
039Um want to show how that relates. So again, the dedicated vestibule and lobby for the admin center that has the stair that comes up. So up on the second floor, kind of a grand um you know, somewhat open grand um to really kind of emphasize that so you can see that so it doesn't feel like it's totally closed off on the second floor. Um everything is colorcoded by department. Orange is multi-purpose. So as we just mentioned, kind of the the new board and professional development suite here. Um, kind of the main program in the in the middle there is boardroom. For some context, this room is probably about 1,300 square feet. So, that is about 2,300. So, almost double for the room itself. And then there's multi-purpose room off the back with that said divider
040wall. So, that could extend that even further if you have bigger meetings or it's still a fully functioning pretty large conference room as well. So, gives you a lot of flexibility there as well. There's another um closed off dedicated conference room for the board after before and after meetings um that has direct access to the boardroom can still be used by staff during the day as well. Um and then a kitchenette as well. So if they're professional development with lunch or something, it could be stored in there out of out of sight. >> Um can anything kind of support the hospitality function of >> all has to have space. So again, everything there in that orange is that um support those functions. The rest is kind of the enclosed uh admin suite. So uh visitors
041will come right up the front and then there's a reception area right at the top of the stairs. Just inside there is a registars's office. Around the corner there in the light green is the HR department. So two offices, a conference room and then a reception area there as well. Um down the corner is finance office. So, five offices there as well as an open area. Um, then down around the corner, superintendent's office. And then at the backside here in the darker green, the um teaching and learning uh teaching and learning department. So, uh kind of broken up by department. There's nothing really physically defining them. So, there is flexibility in that. You could take this office or that. It's not super defined. The uh the open reception areas are kind of strategically placed as
042well in the middle for flexibility. So you can evolve a bit if you need to. Um, and again, the four orange offices in the middle there are flex spaces. Could be an office for Sean when he's there or uh, you know, could be conference rooms as well. So, and I'm here every day, so I'm either sitting in here or going down to the break room break area and getting my laptop up and looking for the printer. So, it' be it would be nice to to have a place just like a little docking station. >> Um, the technology guys come through on the same they're always looking for satisfied to do their work while they're in the office. >> Main priority is to get all the dedicated staff but outside perimeter with the window. Um that's
043why those kind of flex space are in the middle that they don't have a direct window. Um we're certainly looking at you know some kind of transparency between the offices to get some natural light but kind of the nature of the metal building the stuff inside it's a little bit more challenging to get light but and this have Melissa coming over here as a registar she's been at the middle school and when she's moving over to the high school now she's taking up a conference room and one of the thing one of the hardest things in moving her is every single time I went to go over to there someone was using that conference room so it's going to free that back up >> and get that back to the high Rich, can you talk
044about the this the side of the building and the exposure out into the facilities so the board has a sense of of that that >> Oh, the windows. Yeah. >> Yes. Great point. Uh and we do have a 3D I can show you too. But um yeah, one of the priorities was putting this space where we're um on the back side looking into the gym. So all these little rectangles here are windows overlooking that. So really putting it on display. So, anyone coming up to a board meeting is going to get a full display of that whole gym. So, um I can show you in 3D a lot a lot more interesting, but um really putting it on display. >> Two bathrooms enough for all those people. >> So, there's two bathrooms that are Go
045ahead. >> No, those are Yeah, there's two private individual staff toilets that are kind of locked in the back and then there's um the public toilets as well. Oh, I was just >> full on with five units or five fixtures a piece there and >> um two more private. So, really the the intent was to have the there's doors three sets of doors locking off that admin suite so nobody can get up there. Um ideally, you know, we'd lock off the wing, but we need we need this for egress for the multi-purpose places, but everything else behind it is locked off. So, they kind of have that flexibility. to inside the suite of the public. We talked about the fact that if we're having a contentious meeting in the conference room, like an expulsion meeting,
046it'd be [clears throat] really rough if we took a break and everybody had to go to the restroom. >> Yeah. >> Not great. >> Yeah. And I know we got three ways you can sneak out, too. So, >> hostile situations, you can get out multiple ways. >> Any other questions on this? Yeah. Let me >> I will attempt to do this real quick here. Bear with this is very early stages of development but to give you kind of an idea of what it looks like in 3D. >> Okay. So, this is a really fun program we can uh kind of walk through in 3D. Again, still pretty preliminary. we're trying to work through. >> One one thing to note is we're we're trying to match up that architecture of the existing building to um you
047know it ties in. It looks much like what we have over at the at the pool. >> Yeah, there's very consistent um aesthetic around this campus. So, we're trying to pay respect to that and make it fit in as well as we can. Um so, there's kind of that um brick base at the bottom and then the metal up top. So, this is all the pre-engineered building, but trying to make it look as nice as we can. Um, so you'll see the there's kind of a red bands that go horizontal and vertical. So, we're using some elements to kind of recreate that um with the vertical down spouts from the roof to create that look that's on the pool and most of the building. Um, but then yeah, so this would be the main facade
048looking from Columbia. So, really trying to overemphasize that. That's the admin suite up top and your wait room down below right here on the right. That's the new drive that connects back behind. >> And we've talked a lot about the sound treatments to make sure that sound in the wait room is not bleeding upstairs. >> So again, here's those two entrances, the main administration entrance and then a separate multiport entrance off to the side. Um side here. >> You got the key. >> Thank you. fully artistry at its finest. >> That u kind of twotory grand entry. You can see up to the the boardroom upstairs and this would be the locked vestigages so people can really only get in here and there'll be more security to it with the aphones and buzzers and all
049that, but at least physical barriers as well. >> Are the elevators to the right? Yeah, there the two elevators here are just I was gonna ask there is there will have to there has to be we're going with two because one breaks down. >> Yeah, >> that's been a problem with the pool. We have one there and it goes down and Otis is still in business, >> I think. Yes. So, some of this is still a little a little crude as it's in the earlier stages in this 3D realm, but um so again, as you come up the stairs, there's a reception area into uh the admin suite and then this is the the boardroom. So, keeping the public right up front display here. So, you come inside the boardroom set up with to kind
050of show you maybe a typical board setup and how much space that would be and how much we could fit. Again, these are those windows looking forward. So, you get really cool view into that. Put that on display here as we >> Can I see my flux office? >> Keep going. This will be much more refined and and detailed. >> I apologizing. This is amazing. help. >> It's gonna be even way better. >> Yes, it's great. Thank you for doing this. >> On the track. >> Yeah. >> So, inside here would be a place for the athletic part of the building. So, the way from over here, there are some garage doors. Um there's some garage doors overlooking the so the class can go do speed work and then they can come into the weight
051room and go back and forth. So, it's an easy flow. right now he goes he has a pretty good distance and they're doing it on the um they do it I've seen him do it in the commons I've seen him doing on the gym floor but this would give them an ability he just puts the doors up and people can come back and forth athletic entrance action portal piece here sides multisport gym And the red line here is kind of the extents of what tennis needs and then basketball further in you can see basketball tennis layer but it won't be hardwood even though it looks like it >> right. >> Yeah like this it might look thick to it. your two main courts here. You can see up to those windows all across the top
052to the admin suite. This is the running track on the other side. So dry at the end there. Yeah. So you got extra runoff. The curtain divider curtain up is segmented as well. So it's a small portion. So they could just raise that part. >> Kind of hard to see. You can see this how high up the divider groups would go. And as someone mentioned earlier, there will be there's four batting cages as well. Everything can get tucked up high in the ceiling. So it's out of the out of the way if you want the whole thing. And then back here to see what 50 there. It's very tall in here as well. If you look at essentially the end of the volleyball court, uh if you drew a line straight up, it's 30 foot
053clear at those ends. So in the middle it's like 45 ft. So it's plenty plenty tall for all these sports. Um >> basketballs can be >> Yeah, we put those back. We we'd have some bleacher area so we could do freshman wrestling um freshman wrestling JV you know >> and then uh go to the the turf to the west field co on that wall. So the intention is we we will host events like you mentioned >> we have the flexibility too. Yeah. They wouldn't it wouldn't be a varsity event. >> No. >> Uh but a perfect example would be um you know my my secretary Ashley her daughter's wrestling and she went to her first wrestling tournament and she goes it was all day. I like well welcome to wrestling. >> Yeah. So, you're the
054more mats you could put down, the quicker those those meats go. Uh, and this could be something where you could have bleachers and you could put four mmats down. You could have four mats over to the middle school. So, you could have certain weight classes in the fieldhouse, certain uh at the middle school or over at the high school and and you can run your your matches a lot quicker. Gives you gives you a little bit more flexibility there. Plus, I mean, depending on numbers, again, there'll be a a mat mover up in the ceiling, so it could be put down. There's times you might have to have a practice there, but I don't, but they have that they have the space and the flexibility to do that. They might have a meet, they might
055have a tournament. Um, and then the far end over the turf, there's batting cage nets that come down as well through or >> so I'm hearing a lot about flexibility. Um, one of my biggest concerns only be because like after the fact you hear stuff, you know, from the community or I heard so and so talk to so and so talk to coach and, you know, coach didn't really like the end result. And I know we're getting as much input as we can on this. You've heard from coaches, you've heard from staff, you've heard from students, adults, you've heard from students. Um, I just want to make sure that we're doing everything we can because I'm You just hear that like, well, like the soccer and and baseball thing. Well, you know, Pop didn't really
056like it after, you know, that kind of stuff. You're like, well, you know, cuz somebody said and somebody said, I'm like, man, you know, then people tell you like, well, did you know because they didn't really like that and I'm like, they're not. They they talk with the coaches. They got input. They didn't just decide like we're going to knock this down and do this. Like, you may not love it as a parent. Like I know parents were like, "Oh, that sucks that we got our little soccer facility knocked down and you know that's how they they view it." Um, but with all these things like offering the flexibility, offering, you know, uh, access by the community, offering, you know, I I I just want to make sure that, you know, it's it's more asking
057that question for for public um, knowledge. But I I feel like you guys have had a lot of input from everybody and a lot of stakeholders. And you mentioned students specifically. >> Yeah, I would say there is no way possible I'm going to make everyone 100% or happy. Uh if we talk to uh football, they would say we want a 100 yard football field in here. Um we have and I I have there's a budget too that we we have to keep in and a footprint too. Yeah, >> we are very limited. we are very limited on our our footprint and uh we we have talked to everyone and I think the proof that we've talked to everyone and try to get the the best possible facility for the best uh for best value is
058this thing has changed I don't think no less than two dozen times >> and we we've you know we've met with you guys are meeting with Mr. Schultz on of tomorrow >> with the weight coach to go over how everything's going to get put in. Um you know multiple coaches meetings uh Ed did led some meetings with the students and getting their input. Um you know we have we've talked about it and then you know Dr. Hicks comes on board and say hey what what if we moved in together >> right >> and that does a couple things. It's we are uh sharing the space reduces the cost a couple ways. One, it's we're colllocated. Two, this becomes water detention. And one of the biggest drivers in the cost has been underground water detention. We
059had to put uh underground water detention in that parking lot. What is that? $15 a cubic foot around that. And and by making this into a detention pond, that's much much cheaper. And that just frees up the the dollars. >> Yeah. And I guess part of it too, part of my line of questioning here is, you know, when when the public does ask us this, like, how could you like why didn't you make a full track? Why didn't you make a 100 yard field? Why didn't you make a basketball court and put, you know, all those things, >> as you mentioned, somebody's going to be thrilled like, well, this is terrible. Like, what a waste of money. And it's going to be posted. We're going to get those questions. And I just want to know
060that I can tell people, listen, there was there was meetings, there was public meetings, there was, you know, input from students and coaches and players and the athletic director, and this was the best of all possible worlds. And again, that that's the point of this. So, you know, someone's someone's going to say, well, why don't you just focus on on this sport? Why don't you make it a basketball stadium or, you know, a basketball arena? Why do we have to do all these things? It's like because that's not what the point of this was. So just to be able to tell that story for us I think is important to to really understand. I mean that's a great point. Like already it's been two dozen times that we've talked about it and try to make
061this not mediocre for 50 thing but the best thing we could do for all these sports involved. >> Well >> Sean, can you hear me at all? >> The reason I wake up in the morning is to give a school of monster student the best possible conditions for their education and and we've done a lot of things in the classrooms. uh by improving bring those up to uh the lighting standards, the acoustics, the the mechanical, the air quality, uh the technology. Uh but I also want to see every school ton of monster kid that comes here in any sport has the ability to excel and be the best person they can. And this touches every sport. And if it doesn't touch the sport, it frees us up, >> right? In the facilities that we have
062that they have more time on there at that facility. So I can tell you with uh I've done a lot of complex things before in my life. This has been one of the most complex uh where we have asked for so much input and and we have not been afraid to all right you know prime I had mission creep the other day but I had I had some ideas of of with the mechanical of we are doing the best we can to make this a a fantastic facility where every student athlete can come in here and excel and any and another thing would would and again I build it. Mr. Nolan runs it. Um and so is Mr. Schulz, but this is a great thing. I know there will be people that would want to
063rent that turf space. >> Yeah, >> I I know. And and that's something that they're going to have to do. The two spots right now that get rented the most is the pool and the auditorium. Uh I could imagine this would be something else that would people would want to use. The other thing that we had talked about initially is we've had because we didn't have enough facilities. It's not only because these students are part of their sports, they need time to be home and study. They're we're a job is to educate and if they're in the gym till 10 o'clock at night because we don't have enough space, that's a problem. >> So, I think this solves a lot of problems and it's definitely best for our students. One question about budget. You mentioned
064the budget. Is the technology part already in this budget? like are they going to have cameras and >> yeah and there was a lot of you know we do have to sit down with Y to get his um how he wants to run the data and put the the technology in there. Uh a lot of a lot of things we've done so far is um we've the auditorium is perfect example as part of the project. We ran the wire and then the wires there uh and then his guys came along and plugged the cameras in. So he he did a lot of that on his own. But the the part where hey everything's ripped open. Let's get the J hooks in and let's run hundreds and hundreds of miles of Cat 6 cable. That was
065all done um as part of the project. And we would do that as part of this project. And and that's the thing that we can talk with, our director of technology is like, okay, where do you want the baton passed off? You want it laid out this way? Uh are you going to put the cameras in or you not put the cameras in? just question safety and security and make sure that's something that we can afford in that part too. >> You know the interesting thing about the location of this facility is that the technology team has two different directions uh to bring data runs in from both their technology building. They could they could creep across that parking lot through some conduit or they can come out of the high school or they could
066come out of the middle school but that would require a little bit of trenching. I mean there's just they they should have plenty of options to keep this viable from >> we've run that fiber optic cable from the MDF and that was part of the learning commons project. Um so one of the things we've done is um the different IDFs are built and now we're we're about third of the way done of getting those newly IDFs wired to the classroom. We from the MDF in the high school, we could run fiber optic there. Speaking for York, he may say that we're tapped out there or we could run it over from um his his building, the MTS building. >> Okay. Just curious to touch base. >> Ask a question. Did we factor in the cost
067of tearing down this building? Is that included in the budget, too? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> And the retention also the whole kid can move. Yeah, that that is a big money saver. I mean, Jim Glascott, he's the civil engineer, but do you remember what he said our detention footprint went down to by having this? >> It was uh one and a half million by >> cost. Yeah. Cost cost, >> which which is nice. [clears throat] And and I I'll say this and and this is a public. The thing that keeps me up at night about projects when we're doing something outside is water detection. I mean, we have that's a big that was a big line item on the baseball field underneath right field. We have um in that utility field for soccer and
068baseball and it's in that right field area. There's like two Olympic size swimming pools underneath. >> Not that not that big. >> It's it's big. >> Yes. And and that's expensive to do and especially if you start doing it over uh under excuse me under parking lots then that gets really because that's all concrete. >> It gives me gone over this through storage. Mhm. >> Yeah, there's three separate rooms at the moment, but we may still subdivide them a bit, but >> it depends how Michael wants to do if we want to give a sport, you know, cuz sometimes people start bringing more and more stuff and take the whole thing, you know. So, >> yeah, two two down here and then one more almost. So tenatively, what did you guys say for this in
06920 in 26? June of 26 until we start. So it's a two-year project. >> Uh we think we can, you know, again, I want to be >> no jinxes. >> I want to be like new hope. >> They have a two-year timeline. They they're going to work at the front end of that two-year timeline in hopes that we have it available sooner, but it's a con it's a big construction project and you just don't know what's going to happen when they turn the first double. So >> yeah. Yeah, that's part of this too. Like you know, you're talking about water detention and you're talking about Cat 6 and like all that stuff's expensive, too. That and that's takes a lot of time and that's, you know, the public doesn't ever understand the nonse the nonsexy
070stuff. You know, you throw a coat of paint up every but it's like you're spending a lot of time and effort and money to knock stuff down to dig holes to put that in. And I, you know, that's part of the story as well. I mean, it's just again talking it out and so we can tell people this like, "Hey, man, this wasn't just throw up a a metal shed." Like, >> and it's a great point because right here we have fiber optic cable running. So, >> yeah, >> there's and then you don't see it on here, but there are electrical transformers that are going to need to be moved. Yeah, we had meeting with the engineers this week with Sean and his team and so it'll be new uh electrical service, new gas service,
071new water service, rerouting some of the existing underground a lot of underground like you said. See that's big costs, right? >> Yeah. And that's something one a big cost that the hot and chilled water go from the energy center which is a part of the middle school goes out along the west side of the tennis courts. You can see it on a snowy day because it it warms up the the snow melts >> comes around down the parking lot and then it goes into door G goes upstairs and there's pumps there. Those have to be moved and that's because we don't want to build over pipes that >> may need to be serviced at some point. So that's that's another thing that we have to to do. >> So the traffic flow we are going
072to be using this space here right this building >> the the existing parking lot pretty much >> parking lot. Okay. So we cannot we can finish the the traffic flow project prior to knocking this down. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> I think I think correct me if I'm wrong. I think we can do all of everything that we've described, move into the new facility and then knock this building down and uh and and build the extension. >> And that's another thing you it's nice to do. It's um no one likes being in a building that's under construction or having a a remodel. Um, it's nice where it's just, hey, it's done. All the furniture's in and then we just come over with some, uh, you know, moving equipment and get everyone out and it's then it's
073all vacated. >> Sean, can you hear me? >> You mentioned, you know, some of the tournaments that could be held hosted there. Do we have or do we need concession stand base? >> We talked about that. they they would be able to go down to the existing concessions off the existing gym and and utilize those. >> It's hard to see it from the renderings, but that building actually has a hallway into the existing high school. >> So, you could >> you put a couple directional signs up and send them to the already exquisite popcorn maker that we have. >> They could go right here. You go. Yeah, they go right down. They could come right. So you could have seating here and here, go right out, go down, and then their concessions would be right
074there. >> It's just a priority for the little brothers and sisters. >> Yeah. Yeah. Well, it's a talk about the storage. We talked about the high jump pits. They're big and bulky, but they're also magnets for those little kids also to jump on. And then, you know, someone gets hurt, having the ability to close them up and put them in a in a locked door. We had it when I was at Lake Central, we were in that fieldhouse and they were a big pile and they're like a mountain and every basketball came you were chasing 10 kids off the mountain of high jump pits and it was I remember a couple kids got hurt. But to your point, you're watching wrestling match on the multi-purpose space, unless it's rented out or there's athletes over on
075the the the, you know, third football field, kids are going to play tag over there and run around and it's it's a quasi outdoor space in this beautiful space. I I don't know if you guys have ever been in a in a a practice facility like this, but the one at Purdue pregame, people will go in there and you'll see little kids just running around the facility because they can. And you know, it it has this cool factor that those kids can go and and play and parents can focus on whatever's in front of them. And it it's going to be a really neat facility >> and we would only be using it for compet a competition or a game on very limited basis. It's it's mostly for practice and preparation. >> And how many
076square feet is this building? >> 100,000 total. It's on the bottom up top corner. 101,190. >> So the weight room's 8500. >> Yep. Lot of time to flux, bro. You're good. >> That's great. Thank you for all the work. And >> the presentation and the 3D >> 3D helps a lot. >> It'll be nice to move out of this building. Sir, >> we do we could show you some finished product photos as well if you we want to do that. >> Yeah, we have some other projects that we've done in the past >> just to give you an idea of what >> that we when we were this has been a long road. When we first started doing this, we did some tour of different field houses and we we went over to uh Wheeler
077uh theirs and theirs were built back in the 90s and then we went over to Crown Point and they had just built theirs and one of the biggest things they complained that we didn't build enough turf was the first thing. Uh, and then we went over to Home Fostmore and like, "Wow." And, you know, looking at the the plaques at DA and like, "Well, let me see if I can reach out to these guys." And I found Ed Wright and I gave him a call and said, "Hey." And yeah, this was what we did as Ben. >> you guys just did take a key. >> Okay. >> Sorry. >> Points third. >> It's not marked. >> And it's not marked. >> No lines. Yes. >> Yeah. Get ready real quick here. Yeah, this one is
078on the floss. This is probably one of the one of the earlier ones at least 10 12 years ago now. Um but yeah, they have a full more emphasis on track there. They got the full 200 meter track there. Uh that's inside the fieldhouse. Uh again, dance studio. They have separate dance and cheerleading rooms. uh their weight room again similar but uh second floor weight room overlooking overlooking the fieldhouse there. Um athletic training one thing we didn't mention but we do have a remote training uh [clears throat] >> room in this and part of the addition that was one of the try not to double up everything. We did talk a lot about what's here versus in the other part, but again, we do have a small athletic training. Um, athletic turf as well. They
079their synthetic turf indoor. It's a little bit smaller. So, there's a little bit bigger than that. Um, >> and they've hosted scrimmages for freshman games there. >> Oh, this the second floor. >> Uh, Haniga, this is up near. a bit of a halt here. This one, they actually had an inflatable dome that collapsed in an ice storm. So, this was a their replacement for that. Again, they're they're all similar, but have a little bit of unique touch. Everybody treats them a little bit different. Um, this is actually their competition gym. So, two of the courts or the main court over here is is real wood and they have bleachers that come out from both sides. Um, since it's really their main gym, which sometimes it is, sometimes it's not. Um, but this again got a
080full 200 track here, four quarters, another similar with the weight room upstairs. Couple multi- this multi-purpose room actually overlooks their football outdoor football field. Pretty cool. UK key as well. This was our most recent completed one there. Blink away East. This was a wait room newly renovated weight room there. A lot of times too, we're doing the indoor turf track, but you kind of have both. You got a physical track and a turf area as well. So, added bonus there. And then we have some admin suites as well, just to kind of show you that. This one's been knocked out very recently completed. They took over an old totally different purpose building and made that their admin, district admin, um, and professional development. They got quite a few different variety of spaces there and main
081entry there. offices upstairs. This is similar. This is at their uh junior senior campus, but their main office kind of right up front as you enter the school. So, branding, you can see graphics, things like that. It's all stuff we'll get into at the next level as we talk with you. Oaklan. So, this one's under construction right now. This is uh all the walls and roof are up at this at the moment getting on the next steps there. entry to that. They've got another second floor. They have two separate uh weight room and fitness center space. Quite a variety. This one does not have wood floor. They have separate wood floor gyms at this school. >> And then as well, this one is under construction now, too. There's kind of a little race going between
082the two. beyond know you guys how to do that. >> Right. >> So, just to show you what we get the finished product. Again, this one's under construction right now, too. But this one's out of the Nook. So, all over the place. Certainly a popular topic in most schools. This is quite a song. >> That's what happens. >> We got a few musicians in the office. I think it just highlights the the next level brand with track. Yeah, we I will say we had we started with 200 track. It just as we mentioned the the all the conversations with what's really the most important. It shifted and changed sizes and shapes and over and over it was what's really the most important of the staff and kept going back. The other things were sort of
083more important than that track. Yeah, >> it does. It does have a track, but it's >> Yeah, it's not actually. >> These are all intended for hosting meets full on indoor meeting. >> That's what I was going to say. Not really a need for us. >> I think if we compete in indoor track, it's on a limited basis. >> It's a very short season. >> Yeah, >> it's a very short season. And I I don't want to speak for our the monster track coach, but I'm married to a track coach. And um they they want to be outside as much as possible. This allows them they can practice handoffs, they can practice hurdles. Um I mean, I've watched here at Monster and at other schools where they're setting up hurdles in the hallways after school
084and doing them. They won't have to do that. They can they can practice here. They can practice starts. Uh they can do all those things. Your distance folks and again my wife is a distance. They want to be outside. They do not want to run inside. Right. So >> yes. >> Ice. No. >> Yeah. >> Where will we be our cross country kids be running their races with all of the new >> you know where where we have home cross country? Because you know like the middle school would run around where the tennis courts are if we when we moved the test. >> Yeah, we did. >> I And the reason I know cuz um Ryan Ridgely was coaching and we had to cut a gate into the fence down at Frank Hammond so they
085could have the course down there. >> Not sure where their home course is. We don't we didn't have >> that's what I was wondering. >> I think so. So I >> in the past I believe we had a course on Centennial Hills but I don't know if we had one active this year. >> Lake Central had a onsite course but they had all the all the property up on the north side. Um, Crown Point goes to Lemon Lake, Valpo goes to Sunset Hill. So, a lot of the cross country um teams that I know of um go to different different parks in the area. I'm not sure what we do with cross country. I do see them go down to I see them running down Katennial Park, but I don't know if we have a
086project. patient practicing anymore, but >> I saw a bunch of those videos there were a lot a lot of windows. Do you guys feel like this plan has enough windows? >> Yeah, >> it's not going to feel dark. >> Hopefully I we are looking at uh basically between each bay maybe together. At the moment, we're showing kind of in between each bay of cow wall trans translucent panel window on the north and west sides >> and it's a it's not glass, >> it's translucent. So, this helps with >> it's a little different with systems a little different with the metal panel. Um, >> but yeah, there should be lots of natural light here with with this much window. those skylights above are those >> No, at least regular lines. >> Okay, great. >> Yeah, we're
087we're having that was a big topic of conversation. Minimum roof penetrations as possible. >> Yeah. Was there any conversation it's kind of like maybe it's not an option because of budget exterior not being met. >> Well, there's >> Yeah. We >> we did we initially was we were thinking pre-cast that most of these other field houses are pre-cast concrete but going to metal it's a little bit less expensive. >> Yeah. We're and we're trying to show on the two main sides at least the at least the base course of brick. >> Yes. Yes. So the white is it'll be base grade protect with balls, you know, ball in the walls >> and from the exterior part. That's obviously fine with weather and conditions and erosion, all that over the years. I mean, the stuff's going
088to last. >> Yeah. And there's some brick saw out front, right? >> Yeah. three quart similar what when what lake central did their addition they had brick up to a certain point on the and then it was all like that metal metal siding >> yeah I don't think it's going to look like the cory it's going to look like a shed you know right it's a flat panel it's insulated so nice and it's sleek >> yeah that was one of the things we concrete. >> That was a budgetary item. >> Yeah. So, looking at, you know, kind of half two/3 the front really trying to develop the front the side as well around around the side. Um but yeah, I mean really it's you know budget concerns other than going all the way out just
089to keep it the bus lines are flowing. Hey, is that is that something that we could consider doing an alternate to do the brick all the way up to the front >> or is that >> um >> your concern for longevity or aesthetic? Okay. >> So, what would you like what what they just mentioned even in the front? Would you like to see it all bricked in that front facade or would you you know >> I Yeah, I I think that would go a long way. I don't know if it's an option. That's why I just brought it up. We just saw half a dozen others and none of them are metal. I I sort of knew I figured that this was why because otherwise we're going to choose to do it this let's be
090honest. >> It was it had to come about cost. >> Yeah. And that was with setting the parameters around the um the coaches. So whatever we do, it's got to fit inside the box. How we move things and slide things around, but as soon as you start moving things outside the box, like at the dance floor and the athletic office, that that stick is going to be expensive. >> Yeah, >> we can do a few things with college. me. >> Yeah, we're going to try to spruce it up as much as humanly possible as we >> and a lot of the lines, the horizontal lines, you can see kind of dialogue with the existing building. So like those reds are going to kind of match what's on the pool, the heights of those kind of
091match what's happening on the interior. So there's rhyme and reason to it that you may not see in this 3D rendering but it's like British set kind we talked about it tying it into the existing architecture >> and we know the town will expect that from us as well >> they have their they have expectations >> in that that's another conversation that I think we should have I mean ELA is a part of the community uh with talk about the town but in expectation wise they're going to want to use this, right? Is that fair to say that? What do you mean? >> Oh, I don't know. >> I I think I what I was talking about was their expect their expectations on anything that we do that is architecture and nature is does it
092tie into the aesthetic that you already have existing? >> That y is that is there an expectation by the town that residents will be able to use this? >> Yes. >> It's interesting. I mean, >> they mentioned at le Dr. Heler left it was um about the softball fields and all of that. >> You weren't there, were you? >> It was you, me, Mike Schultz, Mr. Nolan, and some of the town council members. And somebody at that table brought that up and we immediately said this is for school town only use but it was brought up that I I can't recall who it was. Um Joe Hawer was there Shenan Chuck Gardner. >> Well there's been this desire for a community center which probably why this is coming up. you know, how High Thailand has
093one and they have one, you know, right? >> And we were talking having discussions about um the CBPA that there was some mention of like, well, why don't we the town could take us to turn us to the community center, you know, to have facilities for the community. And I I think as long as we're clear on that, that this is a school facility. Um, again, and this is all part of us getting our story together and making sure that people understand how we're presenting, what we're presenting, and you know, how this money is being spent. It's not town money. It's the other part of it, you know, >> and it can be rented just like the rest of our >> right. I mean, and that goes through the facility use process. I mean, they
094have to they complete the form of what the use is going to be for. They have to meet they have to show uh that they have a certificate of insurance for their event. We have to make sure uh it meets our our minimum coverage of $1 million per incident, $4 million aggregate, and you have to have all those things in mind. And that gets signed off by the principal whether or not they're going to to use it. I would say this though too at Crown Point and talking with the athletic director, there's kids in that thing at 5 in the morning and there's kids leaving there at, you know, 8 9 at night uh during the winter. You know, I walk by there, you know, this was last winter. I remember walking by there at
0958 at night and there was, you know, 60 football coaches in there. So, it it's used all the time. So what I'm trying to say is if we're if the whole purpose of this it's getting used all the time for for our student athletes for for our kids. >> Yeah. I don't even This is like a walking track so could come in and I you know and and they could use the gym the the weight room and stuff like I don't >> and we we did that at Lake Central where we let people come in to to walk on the walking track but that could have be if I mean there's a security piece that would have to be obviously looked at >> because I guess when you get into our fieldhouse you're really in
096the whole building >> but in in our current gym that that gym would be perfectly good for walking. if we ever wanted to explore doing that. >> It's just it's kind of that question kind of little devil's advocate stuff, but that's not my expectation at all. >> Not mine either. I'm just glad because otherwise then we got to be talking to the town about money. >> Yeah. >> No, >> we we have the um the pool gets used by the town. The tennis courts are are used by the town. um we have a a a very good relationship with them and using that and you know we we plan on continue to do that with the the new tennis courts and also uh the biddy ball I don't think that's through the town um monster
097youth basketball it's a different >> it's a different entity but but there are kids and they're using our gyms on uh Saturdays and Sundays to play >> we will work to be a good partner as we have ever been. I mean, I guess that's the thing that that I want to make sure I say out loud while we're in this meeting is we're going to work through iterations of this where if the park board comes to us and says, "Hey, we want to do an event. Could we use your facility?" We'll make sure they make meet the requirements. We're not saying they can't use it, but our intention is school town of monster students and cool town of monster extracurriculars using this facility a majority of the time and other things may be considered as
098it fits into the schedule that already exists for Okay. Thank you guys. >> Thank you guys. >> Yeah, you'll watch it on the way. >> It's live for a little a little while longer. >> Sean, your computer's muted. >> Okay. >> Thank you very much. >> We have to start really understand how to answer those because you know people are Thanks guys. >> So I'm glad we're all on that. I think it's part of the communication piece that we have to tell stories like anything else, but when you're spending that money and that you're making that kind of mess, you know, and and you and listen, I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that you guys have been talking about this long before I arrived and public meeting after public meeting and
099gring this process all the way. But you're right, somebody's going to point. We didn't know. They just >> they just bulldozed the the good looking tennis courts. So, you're right. We we've got to work on how we message this out so that folks who don't have kids in the school and and the majority of folks that are our neighbors that may not watch our online meetings have a sense of, hey, this is the why and the how and the put a lot of effort into exterior and all these other priority education >> this is creating life balance for our kids >> and that's why we're focusing on it but I do think that's one of the keys to that although I know we've invested a lot of education. We can also use some of the
100strategic plan data and talk about you know this is the number of percentage that our community members who were part of our initial 2022 surveys. This is what our students think. This is what our parents thought and use that as data to show that these are some of the things that fits into our strategic plan based on what our community told us they wanted. But like you guys mentioned, you know, these kids can't practice until 6 because there's no space. So now they got to wait and they can kind of say sit around [music] here or something go home. You know, there's all kind of logistics thing and just that >> I just think of the timing are a challenge that that we should be very thoughtful about because when our funding is getting cut
101and then people are going to say why are you spending all this money right now? Um we have to be very clear on what our because there are people that are going to hear this and it's first time despite all of the conversations and despite all the work and then you'll notice that every meeting I always go back to now this is from the $62 million bond that we passed in December of 2023 after 18 months of meetings and just so people know this this started four years ago. >> It's so neat to see it come to fruition and you're right no matter what we do but I think we can make a bigger effort by not just mentioning the meetings we know watch it. So, so are you you guys want to do like
102a newsletter to the town written forum? >> Well, I think you have to I think you have to cover all bases. I think we're going to do something with that that talks about various things. This included um you know referendum stuff just tidbits like what it's paying for kind of highlights because it's it's you have to keep that going. I think you have to have an online presence with this. I think yeah, you said social media once once um videos are a part of this that look nice and you know talks about it and I think that's an opportunity to explain why are we doing this you know as as a video and and one of my my issues with those are sometimes they're like well if you look at facilities and you click down
103to this menu and this page and then there's a there's a drop down menu it's over here stuff like that needs to be page >> you know click it >> yeah this is the story we're telling What you're saying is don't bury the leaves of your life. >> It happens a lot. >> You know, even even with people, I I don't know. I didn't know there was they're on there, but they're not. As an example, some of this stuff isn't as easy to find as we all think it is. And when you're in these four walls, I do not know. You have to look at that outside perspective. >> And I think to Chris's point, we have to we have to focus on the educational benefit. You know, um >> um If you look at
104our high school social media page, every kid that gets signed to play sport in a college is recognized. And that's fantastic and it's exciting. >> But we also have tons of kids that have academic scholarships and none of them are recognized. They're recognized by the student Instagram page, but not by our high school. And that's that doesn't sit right with me, you know. And I know it would be a ton of work to recognize all those kids, but also focus and I feel like you lose that on social media a little bit. >> We do have those academic that academic honors uh event that's in towards the end of the school year. That would be nice to highlight it from there because those kids are the ones who get like the Lily. They're all announced
105the big ones are announced at one meeting. Yeah. >> So it' be nice to promote those kids and >> at their signing day a lot of the speech and debate stuff too though. I mean there there's some of it that is touched. Um but again that's that's clubs and organizations as opposed to specifically >> one you know one group of kids or one successful student or you know >> I think one of the twins that's the drum leader whatever in band I think she's going somewhere to do that there's definitely kids who are doing a lot of really cool things you know in addition to sports >> maybe we need to leverage the student clubs to help with the social media Yeah. Well, also with the social media that I was just mentioning earlier, it's
106it's so great, but be careful what you wish for because it's it's so hard to I mean, I'm following it and there's sometimes 10 posts a day from School Town of Monster, Monster High School, Prank Ham. So then it kind of does get lost and I can see why we're I don't know the balance of over messaging and messaging and we want to make sure people know but it has it has become and Kim is doing an A+ job but now >> everything's available and I wonder how much of that gets lost because of the amount. >> I don't know. I don't have the answer. I >> Well, we talked about that before that you know I I think we did an initial deep dive into it. It's like, do you realize how many streams
107you're communicating? We had like [clears throat] 20 or 60 or some crazy number that we're not using or people are using all the time. There's so many that >> we are better. We're streamlined. >> It is. But I was saying at the time we first started this because I think this was when we before we had the ambassadors, we went to that um at the ISBA. >> Yeah. >> And saw that we're like we need to do this and this was when we really need to do it. And there was no kind of communicating that stuff. Um, but when we first did that initial audit of it, it's it I believe the complaint was, believe it or not, we had like we had like 30 or you know, pages, websites, feeds, Instagram, like that >>
108all the different flyers going, emails. >> So, that's that's part of it too. I agree with you. Like, but I think something like this in the mailbox for as much as people say don't read mail, everybody's going to get that and take a look at it. And there are residents that don't utilize social media and don't go on the school website and don't receive each jar and don't receive emails home. And and we we are all attached to the school town of Monster. I'm I'm attached as an employee. I'm attached as a parent of students. I'm attached as a parent of athletes. Insult athletes everywhere. But wait, but >> and a property tax and I'm a property but but if I were a property taxpayer who didn't have this connection, how do I learn >>
109right >> all of the good things? This is still a very great way for somebody to spend five minutes thinking about us, thinking about the good use of taxpayer dollars that we engage in and knowing that, hey, this is, you know, if you always put in there at the end, this is how you get a hold of us if you have questions and and those sorts of things. So, you know, this is a way to reach out to everybody that isn't us, who doesn't know these things and lets them understand, yeah, Colombia is going to have a lot of uh a lot of construction trucks over the course of the next two years, but this is so that our kids can can have a more efficient practice time and get home to to do what
110I can tell you as a parent, and those of you that are parents know this isn't like homework. Like those kids, they got to go home and crack those books. It takes some time and effort. And if you're getting home at 9:00 at night, I I know my kid, he's going to stay up and do his homework because he knows that's the priority. But then he's going to lose a couple hours of sleep and you repeat that pattern, it starts to erode everything that our teenagers and and and pre-teens are doing. So, you know, I think I think we need to get this message out into mailboxes and ramp up our social media uh work. And we have a great partner in in Kim Pirate to do that work. And um I think we have
111some community assets. We have the the Richmond area career center kids that are able to probably do some some promo pieces and some pieces for us. So, >> why would the Richmond area kids want to >> I did I say the Yeah, sorry. Old habits, guys. You caught it. >> It's been a while. The Hammond Area Career Center. Yeah, that's good. >> So, do you think is reasonable to get something out in the spring before the big construction starts? >> How often did you guys do that? >> Just yearly. >> Almost every >> It's I mean, it costs money and that's another >> Yeah, it's because you're mailing to every household in Wester. >> Yeah, but I think the bulk mail rate is not unreasonable. I think what I think what drives the cost up
112is are we going to do it inhouse? Are we going to have it done for us? How what kind of material are we going to put it on? We can start specking that out and getting a sense of what it looks like to try and do it inhouse and and do we reach a tipping point where we need to subcontract it out so that it looks better and gets more efficiently delivered and those sorts of things. >> Good time to do that. >> I was going to say time cost. >> I did it. printing. >> No, Tom printed it, but I did the writing and the design. >> But Tom Yeah, Tom did it. >> Um, still um Printing did that for us. Printed it for us and mailed it for us. >> Oh, we
113we have a relationship with a couple different vendors that we we can do other work with. We can find out if this is something that they're capable of. I had a company that I used at at my previous uh school district where we fed into the Richmond area career center and I can kind of find out uh if that's if that's something we want to consider as well. >> Another thing we kind of had talked about before is some sort of like a town hall meeting. And two examples when we did our first ref second referendum and Dr. Hendrickx had to go back out and explain why we needed more money. Um the board uh I was not on it at the time went to different places and had meetings >> and took questions, took
114a lot of angry comments, but it was a Q&A with a presentation. Then last night, the coffee with the counselors, they did a whole presentation. They're going to try to make it more like a quarterly thing where they communicate and let people come in and ask questions. Last night was all about all their different boards that they have and how you get on and who's on it. So, is that something we think might be good if we get to the point where we can show the video? Do you think people would come? Do you think >> Yeah, >> I I think you don't know until you do it. You know, I don't think like if it's hot button stuff, people people come out. We could we might do we might do it and announce that
115we're going to start, you know, a presentation about this project and kind of updates on on where things are financially and how we're doing it. you know, starting to tell the story, you know, it's like, well, we'll do it in the auditorium and maybe 20 people come. Maybe it plays this path and there's, you know, pitchforks and torches. I don't know. I think you guys got to go and see what it looks like because I don't I don't know that there's there's an anger about this. I don't know. There's, you know, I mean, usually that's when people come out in droves. It's like >> it certainly is, I think, a good faith effort to do our best to read to see. It's the good faith effort would be mentioned. >> I would definitely focus, >>
116but I don't think we have to go to every school like we did with the referendum, but if we I think we did three I don't know. I can't remember what was a facil it was a facilities update when Dr. Henders did it to show the waterfall and show all that to different community members. But may maybe also wouldn't you love to show off the auditorium right now? Our auditorium is beautiful. Um, maybe we could do something where even like showcase students singing or playing an instrument or something to start the meeting. >> Yeah. >> Then some kind of PowerPoint thing. Sorry, Sean, you're planning to be involved. But then show facilities updates and then Q&A. I would I would also recommend that we start documenting it could be a picture some of the problems
117here just so that you have something to fall back on if somebody were to ask us like I know we have HBAC trucks here all the time but you're sitting with a friend or bugs or whatever else is here >> you know I'm hearing people respond to pictures >> I can videotape pictures my hand while I walk around here knocking all the >> way as a side >> that waterfall picture is still one of the most poignant things people remember from that referendum >> and if you're gonna we're talking about changing the layout of our school town of monster and this building support we have support for why we made that decision because like you said you drive by it you think it's fine >> right >> this generally with everything you know I think
118it's about telling the story why this is a need not a want you know why are you buildings. You don't need it. >> We don't need it. Like why do we need this? And that's what that's the what we need to tell people. >> May I ask those questions since you're here, Sean, is you know we talked about overright and refocusing some efforts over there at some point. Um do you know what that might look like or what we're thinking or >> what what I'd like to do um one obviously the playground so they have a little nicer area We we did seal coat it and make it nicer, but make a whole new start for it. Uh learning common update that uh there's some art rooms and some classrooms that uh could use new
119flooring. We've had pretty good success with taking the casework and repainting it, saving some dollars there, redoing the case work, redoing the the ceiling, you know, just sprucing it up. We've already done the lights in the whole building. U also uh we we did not do the lights in the new gym. U the one so it is pretty dark in there. It would be nice to redo the light lighting in there. Uh we've had some voltage issues that we've had electricians come out. But I mean it's if if you go way way back that used to be an open concept um building and when it was open concept you had floor pockets with conduit running underneath. Well that conduit is starting to fail. So now now it's closed. You have walls going up and over.
120So good assessment of the electrical would be good. Um they can always use more storage. They have I'd like to take their m their instrument storage and move that into the room sort of kind of like what we have in the percussion room >> um at the high school >> back to school >> uh do some sound treatment spruce up that uh band room um and and then take that music storage and just make that general storage because right now you have a super supervision issue where you have to have someone down there watching kids get the instruments out and then They they can't be in two places at once. So they they got to be back and forth. So those are the things that what they're going to do with the middle school. We've
121redone all their freezers, all their uh coolers. So all these serving lines. >> Yeah. Giant refrigerators mechanical stuff. I like >> the chillers. So we've done all the the that room has been all done. They have all new furniture uh in in the whole we just put in new bleachers. We redid the the gym floor. Um it' be nice maybe get new scoreboard there that one week. Um these they they got all new light bulbs so they can change those out and I bought all new faces for it so they can swap those out because it >> proced so those are some things we could could do there. >> I noticed. Oh, and then also the the guidance office do face. >> Okay. Thank you. That's like 1980. In the high school when you walk
122into the left now, they have that big black wall with a big Mustang. That's very nice. >> That was an athletic. I didn't have much to do with that. >> Oh, it's very nice. Looks really >> We helped move a couple things. >> I worried about it. It's fabric. >> Yes. It looks really nice. That would be nice in the cafeteria in the middle school. Not fabric piece, but a black wall and all that looks really nice and it's like it draws your eye to it. >> All right. So, you're going to touch base with Kim. >> I'm going to touch base with Kim. We're going to start to get cost estimates for an every person in our geographic boundary mailer and we're going to work with DLA to find out what sort of amazing
123video compilation they put together for us. I'm going to be super disappointed if we don't sick beats over the top of it like you did for the presentation tonight and we'll work through kind of how we want to proceed with an event. What I hear you saying is let's have an event. Maybe we say secondary and elementary different nights and we invite some of our groups to perform to make it kind of an event. >> I wouldn't even say just parents. I mean anybody in the community that wants to come comes. >> Interesting. Yeah. It was like an open like >> Yeah. Yeah, because what we've done in the past, it was an open for it was an event that anybody can come to and ask those questions and present to. >> Again, we can
124our parents will be in the know if because we're good at communicating with them. It's the non parents that we want to have more. >> So that might be a postcard. So So maybe we have a twopase approach. We send a postcard that invites them to two or three or however many dates we decide that we're going to do this thing. um that we're still conceptualizing. And then we hold those. We communicate with our our current families and then we communicate it to everyone else via, you know, 3x5 postcard. These are the dates. Come learn about upcoming schools of monster construction projects or or however we want to couch that renovation. Usually the town doesn't let us do much for news you can use, but they will probably let us put that in the news
125you can use to say open house, come learn about, you know, just a little thing. They don't want us to do it all the time because it's for them. But that I think they would let us advertise. >> Well, I bet officer G would do that news, the crime launch. >> That's what I always look at every time. I just don't the one thing I will kind of advocate there is by putting it news you can use I don't want people to think oh this is a thing for the town then >> right well that's another reason we don't like they don't want we always try to be separate >> but if they say >> but I mean the flip to me though I I don't know that we would need to go to that
126extent and send out cards and invites and make it you know a formal thing like >> we can have this meeting and let people know and pass the word along and I I don't think we need to send out postcard invites to everybody. I think doing this newsletter is important. I think bullet pointed stuff is important. I think something like that if we were going to have this meeting and that we'll just say we're going to have a meeting in the auditorium that stuff you can get out through social media through and again it needs to be out there and send emails like that that word will get out. I don't think you need to sign postcards or something like that, but if you guys think we do, >> if we put signs on all
127our again, I'm just saying what we did. We put signs on all the front of the schools, but I the news you can use, you can reach everybody and you can say, >> I'm not going to post. I just want to make sure that people don't think, hey, >> money, so probably good. >> Well, because then people like, hey, they're building a community center. >> Well, we could they can we can I'm telling you. >> Yeah. All right, we'll work on that. But the newsletter, I think we can start from >> I think that's the priority and that's the focus and then go from there. >> Yeah, I think if we're gonna if we're going to host an event in the auditorium, the first thing we probably need to wrap our arms around is I
128couldn't tell you off the top of my head and I doubt you could sitting here what the performance schedule for that facility. And >> yeah, >> listen, asking a play group to strike a set so that you can have a community meeting. I feel like we'd all be in a lot of trouble. >> Can we use the sets and dress up and costume? >> I like I like it more when John says Hamilton. >> It's not hard just to close the curtains and >> Well, because that screen is now in the front. >> Yeah. So, >> he thought that through design. >> He did. He did. And >> that was I learned a lot on that project. straight. >> I learned all >> the the pit, all the the pockets, the projectors. How many people
129can we get at the high school 250 in that new space that we'll be defending after it's been built today. And the problem with the high school PD space is nobody can ever find it. >> I know it is. Yeah, it is tucked away. >> Okay. Well, let's work on that. >> Okay. >> All right. I'm sending Dub 756. So, we got 30 seconds to say whatever else she wants to say. She wants to know the end time. >> Happy Thanksgiving. Thanks. Good. They have to not be >> just a
