001Welcome everyone to the regular meeting of Smith Green Community Schools of Monday, March 16th, 2026 at 6:30. Please rise to the flag of the United States of America and to the stands one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all. Mission of Smith Green Community Schools by focusing on excellence in education and providing opportunities for all students to succeed. We strive to be the best small school in India. Please join me for a moment of meditation. >> Thank you. >> Yes. I uh you want to take one and pass it down? I wasn't sure if the digital fortune works, so I printed copies. Um Addison Reed is one of our student spotlight. She couldn't be here tonight. Jillian Wright is the other. Um they're both seniors. Um and they I'll read your photo, but you
002can see their artwork um here on the slides. Each year, our art students participate in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Since 1923, the Scholastic Awards have recognized the vision and talent of our nation's youth. They are the largest, longest running, and most prestigious program of their kind. This year, 2,270 artworks were entered. Only 649 received honorable mention silver keys or gold keys in recognition of outstanding creative achievement. This year, our students had a goal to earn 20 awards. They actually won 22 awards, and we even earned one writing award. Awards are broken down into categories. Honorable mention silver key and the top award students can earn is the gold key. While all our art and writing students deserve recognition, Jillian and Addison led the way with a total of 11 awards between the two
003of them. Addison earned five two honorable mentions and three silver keys. And Jillian here earned one honorable mention, two silver keys, and an impressive three gold keys. To add to the excitement, Jillian's gold key artworks will advance to nationals in New York City. If you have not seen any of their work, I printed it there for you. It is the pictures do not do them justice. Um, you can save the date though for Sunday, May 3rd. That's our annual art show here in the library and Jillian and Edison and all of our other art students will have their artwork showcased. They are truly creative and talented. I'm super proud of them. and I'm just going to brag on her even though she's gonna be so mad at me. Um Julian and Addison are both in
004our top 10 as well. They were notified that they're in the top 10. Um these two young ladies probably just about as much as any other students that I currently have in the building have applied for probably every scholarship in Northeast Indiana. They have been finalists for the Lily Dominant. Jillian was just a finalist for the Chapman scholar, which if you're not familiar is a full ride in PFW. Um so they haven't had big hit just yet. They've gotten down to the wire for all of them. Addison and Jillian were two of the three for Whley County. So really impressive feats if that tells you just how really strong these youngies are. So just super proud. You have to come up. >> Now you have to >> I'll take it. I'll Okay. One, two, three.
005Perfect. >> Thank you, dear. You're free to go. Oh, I think >> girls. >> That is awesome. amazing stuff. >> Some of her artwork is I mean huge though, so it's really hard to capture the details. And if you come into this school, you really should peek through the art room right now. All of the seniors are painting their ceiling tiles. >> They're some of the best I've seen. >> They're so cool. >> Next, we have staff spotlight. And I am pleased to announce that Kelly back was nominated and selected as our spotlight of the month. Um, this is what was said about her. She is very thoughtful and nice and she goes above and beyond. She is always friendly and greets the kids in the morning with a smile. A few days ago, she
006called me after the bus route to tell me there was a large screw at the end of our driveway. So, be careful. So again, other celebrations don't want to steal any thunder. So Mr. G, anything you want to share? >> We just are finishing up our I read assessment. Um we passed 23 of our 25 third graders that had to retest which puts us at 98% for the year so far and these kids will continue to test but that's a great success. They also passed um all of our fifth graders that um needed to retest which means that 100% of our fifth graders that don't have special ed exemptions have passed. So that's commendable as well. Um we just finished our mother son bingo last weekend. Had 147 kids and their uh moms come to
007do the bingo. Our PTO has been a great asset to us and that's one of the one of the activities that they do just to get the families engaged. The last thing is Battle of the Books. We hosted our first Battle of the Books with our students. Battle of the Books. Uh kids could volunteer. They had to read 12 books and then there's trivia questions about the books and the teams compete against each other based on the books. We had 15 participants in second and 10 participants in our fourth and fifth grade team. So it was just our inaugural year. I would anticipate moving forward that it will get bigger, but it was a great event last Thursday as well. first in >> um yeah, I will save a lot for some of the updates
008from my principal report, but um I know that we have a separate spot for donations, but one of my biggest celebrations is the wrapping up of our athletic fundraising campaign. Um and actually more has come in even since my report was sent. So, we're just right at about $130,000. Um and several projects are being completed. So, um I will bring the project next month so you can kind of see what's done because a lot of them are in the works so I can kind of give an update to that but a lot of um big donations from families and local companies and a lot of people have reached out for some ongoing ways to support the the athletics program. Um in addition to that um tomorrow Missy Boffman and I will be going to um
009to a meeting around lunch because someone got wind that my next move was going to be to work on the arts and um we have some potential donors to cover the $80,000 auditorium project. So hopefully the following month I will happily share that I'm going to get that covered. >> So um pretty cool things happening uh in the great >> Thank you very much. >> Um I would like to draw your attention to the new artwork hanging up from our local artists at the elementary. I think they do a fabulous job. We'd also like to uh thank and congratulate coach Garmin and the staff and players for their season. Uh I see great things out of that program and I'm excited about the future. And then we also like to uh thank the new era
010new gen for their putting on a great show invitational. Also a lot of people put in a lot of long hard work to make that happen. So, thanks to all those people who are involved in that. The only other thing I'd like to draw your attention to is some of our donations that we've received uh that's worth celebrating. We received a $20 donation from the Joe Hudzman Memorial Scholarship to the football team. We also received $125 to the FFA team at Chair Bus again from the Joe Hudzman. And then of course, Mr. Hers kind of alluded to it with the athletic fundraiser donors. What did you say? Over 130 now. >> Just just right at $130,000. Yeah. >> So very impressive. >> Including baseball ticket booth. all those generous donors. >> Yes. Next, we have
011special presentation. We're highlighting our focus on our new strategic plan. Mr. Gaff and Mur will present the communication market today. So, as you may have noticed, um, we've tried to take a much more significant social media presence this year. Um, especially moving into a potential referendum this fall. Um, letting people know about the great things that we've got going on within our building. Um, because a lot of opportunity, there's always a lot of opportunity for the people to be in the building. So, we like to share out those great things. So, um, hopefully you noticed an increase in our social media presence. Um, part of it was aligned with Miss Hersh and and her ability on social media and then my secretary that we hired this year is also very good at social media. So,
012it's worked worked well that the two of them can kind of tag team um a lot of the initiatives that we've got to communicate out what's going on. So, >> yeah. So, what I put together for you just really quickly is that um what our three current communication goals are. And I'll just kind of quick go through those and then I think Mr. G's going to add up some information for you. But um you'll see the first goal is to develop a clear and coordinated district communication plan that supports transparency, consistency, and stakeholder engagement. So, one of the things that we've really focused on, we're still revising and tweaking our plan. we could look at it and we kind of step away from it, look at it again to kind of try and figure out
013what we want to have and that will all be wrapped up here in the next few months. But um one of the things that is most easily seen is that um if I go through each about each quarter um you can see that the traffic on parent square alone has increased quite a bit. So, while we're seeing more posts, about 100 more posts, that means our teachers are also using it. But you'll see that the actual engagement and interaction from families has also increased just as much. You'll see that the snapshot here, and this is just a screen so that you can see 99.8% of our families receive information through parent square. That's incredible. Um, so, and that's pretty darn near perfect. And sometimes it's just that it gets kicked out. Um, a bad email,
014a typo, those are things like that. systems are down. We actually get notified of that, too. So, um, when I was running, um, messages and alerts and reminders for our PSAT day in the fall, I was able to run a report to see who didn't get it. So, it got kicked out. So, I was able to go right in and make sure that they got it directly. So, um, super helpful in that regard. In that same breath on the top of page two, you'll see what this kind of looks like. So, increased engagement. And this includes the the rate at which they're opening the messages, that two-way communication, which I think has probably been the most beneficial to us. So, right away, if we're posting something for SAT, for example, just using that as the
015running example, if I want to post it, um I can add um Mrs. Ston, the secretary at the elementary, I can add the counselors. And so, anybody who is added as a manager, can also interact and answer those questions quickly. So, it's just really user friendly. you'll see that the overall rate is just up. Um, this streamlines messages. So, while we don't necessarily need to have the consistency in the lines, what it's doing is we're interacting at a more consistent rate. So, it's not a okay spike, we're in a busy month and everybody gets 100 messages on one week. It's been more consistent because we've been able to kind of schedule those out, set the reminders, things like that. So, it allows us for some RSVPs and things like that as well. Um, goal number
016two is that unified marketing plan. And this is where we're relying on social media. So, this bottom box is not parent square. This is just our chair bus go. This is just from the junior senior high side. The elementary side is even more. Um, the junior senior high kind of had a little bit more of a presence because they interacted with athletics um and theater and different pages like that. But their rate is up even higher. you will see that in the last um just few months here we are up 61% from where we were this time last year. Um and that's not just likes. So it's interacting, it's sharing when we post um you know what our kids are doing. Um families are sharing those so then they're getting that action. So then they're
017coming back to visit to see what other updates are going on and we're trying to consistently post. So you'll see um that's quite a quite a bit of a difference. That last goal then um is just establishing um more connections through um active education, collaboration and external partnerships. And this is where we really want to rely on that digital communication. It's a lot about storytelling. Um our families and our potential families really want to see what our kids are doing. So when we have the community foundation posting on social media that our kids are finalists, that activity went through the roof, right? when our kids are out doing things um in the community, those those are the those are the things that are getting us all of that traffic when we're doing things like that.
018So, we're trying to work closely um with anybody who's sponsored um not just for athletics, but um I know that the suicide awareness has their event coming soon. So, I've been trying to share that. So, then not only are they going to their page, they're going to ours. It's all about networking of course, but that gets us all that traffic and then it shows that our kids are supporting other groups and things like that too. So, we're going to continue monitoring. We talk about it pretty regularly. Do you have anything to add? >> Yeah. The other thing that we've done is made ourselves available to the community organizations. both have presented the Rotary, had conversations at churches, several of those things because I think if we rely only on our social media, only our digital
019communication, there there is a population that we leave out. Um, so I think it's important that we also get staff out amongst the community to have those conversations as well. And they've been very appreciative for us to um come and meet with them and answer any questions that maybe they have over different things that are going on as well. >> Yeah, we've talked about some mailers too. We haven't done that yet, but we talked about bringing some of those back for school. >> Any questions for us? >> I have one on the wheers having social media pages as well. what are we doing to coordinate and make sure that things that we're putting out there from that aspect align with everything else that so one thing that's in the plan that you'll see when we
020roll out is unified wording in the names of our different pages and and I don't remember what we agreed upon as our as our but tennis bus So when someone wants to search something specific, they know which hashtag you go to essentially. Um so that's one of the biggest things. Um having coaches on parent square has helped us significantly because it used to be that every sport had their own different way to communicate. Um parents now have become reliant whether it's Turners in the elementary or archery club or one of the athletic teams. Everybody has access to square the information has come out in the same same form which I think has helped us with our communication with our stakeholders as well >> on our side for some of those larger teams too uh we
021have it is an expectation of the coach to have certain they have to so you'll see teams are starting more of our teams are starting to we started with the high school you'll see them in junior high now you they should be getting weekly updates with schedules and schedule changes and things like that and Kilgore and I just in case one of us are out in the event that we have to notify for cancellations and things like that and are doing the same on social media so that we monitor so that one of us is always aware of what's being posted as well and that's kind of in our communication plan too. So we will be working to clean some up. What happened was I think before I came into the picture too here in
022the building um there were old accounts because people were kind of just being willy-nilly about creating. So some of the names are old and we can there will be as much, you know, consistency across the board, but some of those actually aren't available as usernames. So, we're just working to kind of gradually clean some up. I've reported some old ones to clean them out. So, that way if someone just went to Google, we start bumping up the the list a little bit more. So, some of that's going to take a little bit of time, but we're working on it. Trying to get some teachers to work on some of that. Um, those weekly I know we have a lot of weekly newsletters, the junior high and elementary, and just kind of make sure Yeah, even
023at the end of the year we had to especially on Facebook go through there were multiple elementary pages and go through and you know you send them a certified letter go through all these steps and then finally they'll clear it out but it's a it's not necessarily an easy process to get a page. >> We're trying to work on getting everybody's logos updated. >> Um so I know baseball just has theirs nice and we kind of cleaned up the page so that the page is different than the athletics. So, you know, we're throwing. >> Um, yeah, just baby steps in that regard. But >> the other thing that I think that it would be really nice to see is results, >> you know. So, it's like it's very difficult if you're not necessarily, you know,
024100% engaged with that activity to find out just the results of whether it's a wrestling meet, a baseball game, you know, football game. A lot of times needing to go to other resources to find those type of things. Uh if we could integrate that into our page, I think that would be >> we just talked about it and I because there's been a shift away from Twitter. It used to be Twitter was where all the >> the results were posted because it's linked to a lot like event link and so now to get those results we someone has to type them up and send them and so and then share them. So, but it's something that Busco Athletics could do if we make an expectation that coaches report. Not every coach posts regularly enough yet,
025but we have a lot of new coaches. So, that's where I'm just the baby steps to get that consistency for sure. That's why we I don't know if you guys have noticed, but like >> I would say Octoberish we started weekly. >> Every Sunday morning I schedule here are the the weeks out. So, save creates that and then updates changes and that's scheduled weeks in advance. So that goes out. So stuff like that we're going to try and just keep adding to it. >> So results is definitely a good one for sure. >> Especially those big >> used to be able to go to the newspaper but now >> correct you know most information is not updated in the newspaper. So and if you're outside of Fort Wayne it's not generally in the news either.
026So >> yeah on the radar for sure. Keep them coming on you guys stuff like that. We've got a list. >> Yep. And I I get those questions, you know, a lot of times people reach out, hey, how did you know something something new >> like that? I don't know. >> Well, and I will tell you just just so you know, I mean, this doesn't help everybody else in the world, but they are always on the morning announcements, always the next day. And so we were when we were talking, it was kind of if you're for the morning announcements, just >> put it out there. So just harder because it's we type out those paragraphs and talk about it and then acknowledge the kids. So you'd have to condense something to kind of put it
027out there even if it's a which we did try to do on Instagram, you know, throughout the quarters through events, but that doesn't reach everybody. So, >> I wonder in the world of AI, >> you know, is there a way to tie that together? Hey, make a whatever 20 word summary of our and highlight our, you know, our announcements and have that thing just automatically feed and, you know, drive some of that. >> Yeah, definitely. >> I'm definely I know nothing about I mean seriously not but >> it's great. It will do a lot. It's just it it's the time it takes to do it too to be quite frank. The logistics of it when I'm standing at the end of the track during a football game on Friday night I have the time to
028say end of quarter one here here and here. Hayden does not right. Um if I'm sitting and watching a basketball game you know fine but we can't be everywhere to know who did what. And that's the tricky part. And that's where when it used to be linked, it was so much easier. So now we're relying on the coaches. And if you're away, then we're relying on the away coaches, ladies. >> And I remember when uh I was coaching the high school golf team, we had another whatever software >> application that we had to actually log >> um like a paragraph of what that what happened that night and it got automatically sent to the newspaper. Yeah, we don't have but we'll >> we'll make it an expectation of their responsibilities. Just how we get it
029out there will be the next step of that. >> Thank you guys very very hard aspects of our You know, we're always constantly working very hard in the classroom to make sure our kids get educated, but there are so many things that go on beyond that people are investing some more efficient familyorun You name it or just every process we do in general constant always trying to thank you guys. Next, we have the consent agenda, sir. Um, and I just like to draw your attention down to proposed fundraisers. We sign up bid for the archery club, flower sales for the FFA and a ticket entry ticket question agendas. Next is a personnel report and I'd like to draw your attention that Mr. Foot the girls tennis coach has submitted a notice of resignation. Also like
030to point out that Mr. Gaff be a change placement from chair elementary school principal to the business manager. Miss Cook resigned as the girls basketball coach and then Mr. Robin Miller or excuse me Robin McGuire submitted her letter of retirement she's custodian >> I do not think I >> thankful for her years of service and what she did for this community and for our kids to learn Much appreciated questions or concerns on the personel report. Well, they finished the session. After approving, the governor has signed 28 bills that um had anything to do with children of some sort of fashion. Um all of them have been signed in by the governor um between February 24th and he just signed one as of March 12th. signed some um biggest one is amending Indiana high school equivalent
031C diploma program eligibility um is now extending from June 30th to 26 through June 30th of 28 um department of education matters creating teaching and learning framework for the implementation of mathematic standards we kind of talked about this at our last board meeting that it's been literacy recent recent years and now we're making that transition to that so they have passed and the governor just signed up on the 12th of March. Um, school board candidates specifying that if there's more than one candidate for a school board office with a certain designated group of candidates, they shall appear in the order within the grouping in alphabetic order according to serving. This is very important. >> Um, that has now been signed in. So, how you're listed on the ballot makes all the difference how you're going
032to get voted for apparently. And then the wireless communication device policy, which we have spoke about multiple times. Um, did get signed in. Um, and the governor has approved it. Um, and this just basically states that students aren't going to be able to have their phones in classrooms. So, whether we get lockers or whatever, but I think Busco has already kind of had that policy in place. It's just making sure we're implementing it um across the board. So, those were kind of the highlights of the 28 bills that were signed into law. >> Thank you. >> I shouldn't have any more reports, but they special. >> Yes. Next, we ask for your approval of the sher construction bid for the second grade restroom project. >> Questions or concerns on the restroom bid project? >> Have
033these restrooms been renovated? the same restrooms you >> That's what I thought. That's what I thought. They have not changed. And when we did our walk through three years ago, they're definitely an area that were of concern. >> They're actually in worse shape than they were three years ago. Just the partitions and stuff that were in there are unrepable. So, the continued wear and tear splitting where they're rusting, hinges breaking, stuff in the floor collapsing, the I mean it's progressively getting worse. One of my concerns, Paul, uh, is that we only receive one and I believe I mean, we always try to have three bits. Um, and I think that, you know, the the number came back um surprise some of us. And I really think that and I know that you pushed to try
034to get some additional ones here. I really think that we're going to need to or I would like to see that we push for some additional bids here to make sure that we really are in the ballpark. I don't know. I'd like to see us venture outpost this time of year. >> When you put a bid out, just anybody can jump on it or do we send it to certain places? How does that process work? >> Uh yes to both those questions. Um there is like a almost a national bid service that goes on throughout the state. And then also each company who's done projects before gets an individual bid invitation to let them know project if you're interested. So it goes out to everybody and then we have a preid meeting where contractors will
035come here actually walk the site look at it take pictures out and they get a copy of what the architect put together. So we had several contractors do that as well. >> They came to the pre >> how many did we have >> uh at that time that came to the pre and then once they leave you know they can call and contact they need clarification if they want to come back out take more pictures or whatever the case may be. Um so we are anticipating at that time getting at least three bids. However time We only received one from one contractor, but we had multiple people look at the project. Even at the time when I saw those numbers, I reached out to a local contractor, keeping our fingers crossed, who's done business for
036us before, came back very I think a phenomenal job. um they looked at the project and they think that particular work either way I mean we did do what our due diligence did meet all the legal requirements you know it's you can't make people bid project they may not be interested >> right did are we able to why why does Barton co believe that we didn't get any additional do they have any feedback or feelings of >> um I kind of asked uh Mr. Weer at the time why there was only one bid and he at the time he was a little surprised as well openings um you know he said he really didn't know Could be because there is some work out there and people are busy. It could be just because the scope
037of the work that some for the bigger companies it's not really worth their time. Dollar figure isn't because we're kind of in a small narrow niche. >> You know, for some of the smaller companies it's too big of a project. For bigger companies it's too small of a project. kind of one of the reasons why we got one from they did on our last project. They did a great job and they just kind of help us graces. Did you consult with any other districts around us about >> anybody? >> Yeah, most of those multiple multi-million pushes back. continue to rise. Unfortunately, that's kind of what we're seeing everywhere right now, but if we wait longer, I mean, we had this bitted out three years ago. >> Uh, the first bid that went out that I
038could find was in 2016. >> Okay. So, it's been 10 years ago, >> then 2017, and then 2021. Those were all Yeah, I agree with that. I don't want to wait. I mean, I'd love to see more, too. I would, but I also don't want to put it off for another year. >> And do we have by asking for more? You know, we don't want to do business with them. We will do whatever. >> Yeah, I mean certainly I would like to see some additional bids, but I would like And like I said, they're busy. Everybody's busy. Even the town just don't fall. Hey, great. >> Well, it will be this summer. summer basically June early July construction and then this particular and cutting through that cutting through Christmas shift higher We've been looking at
039the screen since 2016. >> We just need a motion. A motion to approve the construction shingle construction bid the second grade project. So we'd like to pursue getting some additional to ensure that we are in a the appropriate financial type of time frame shoot possible or is this something that we're going to look at next fall or I would say as soon as possible. Um, if we could do some due diligence right away, then try to pursue some other contractor bids and potentially get it on the schedule. That would be my preference. We'll see what we can do. Thank you. Thank you. >> Uh the next thing we ask for your approval to add login access to Star Bank website for Mrs. uh to grant just to let you give a little background to accessoration
040accounts website. >> And this is just let you know this is again one of those things we're trying we're just trying to because she would have work and then all of a sudden have to come back to her desk. She loves app of the revised 2026 annual appointment. This is back in January, but because of some staff changes, we're asking for some rearrangement because unfortunately here therefore we'd like to add Mr. G since he's being appointed as business manager as of today. I'd like to add Mr. Gaff as the treasurer also include him and authorizing signing of checks for corporation also authorized to sign extracurricular checks including authorization for checks and contract agreements and purchase orders and then obviously to put Mr. Gaff on the in Starf. >> Do you expect any of this transition
041to happen prior to July 1st? >> Mr. Daff still has his responsibilities principal but as time allows we are pulling in to conversations. For example, I had a meeting West and Mr. Cle special. So some of those things some motion >> motion to approve the revision of the 2026. All those in favor. Next, we ask for your approval and blessing on the creation of a new sixth grade transition teacher. This will be a teacher salary, whatever he or she is hired in at on our teacher scale. So, motion to approve the new transition teacher position. Second favor. Next, we ask for your approval to purchase a new 81 passenger school bus. This is a bus that is on our school replacement plan. But please note that buses are almost two years out now. So, if
042you put this um we do get put in line. We do lock in the price of that bus, but we will not receive that bus. and we'll pay for it at that time. >> And just let you know, we try to place our orders before I will motion to approve the purchase of one new 81 passenger bus. All those in >> Thank you very much for that. I'll let you know that we're getting this in just in time because pricing change upoughly about next time at least 12. >> Uh the next thing we have for you is the first reading of the proposed elementary student and parent handbook very own Mr. is here to answer any questions that you may have. >> I'd like to self-report. I forgot to highlight the network and internet accessibility
043policy. So that's about three pages of library for you that Mr. updated. So I don't think I highlighted that in the packet. Sorry. But that is new and updated. Um the other highlights are fairly minor. Um crisis hotline number has changed. um long story behind that, but the short story is that our fifth grade is now adopting the same program that we adopted a couple of years ago, San Diego Promise, um which has a 24hour monitored hotline that our parents, students, community can reach out to anytime and get support through that. Um so now we have that added to our handbook. Mission and vision statements now um go directly with district. Um, attendance now meets our new legislation. Just changes some language with unexcused absences. The 170 days of school accountability. Um, electronic devices. Same
044thing. Matches legislation. It's not new at the elementary. It's always been bell to bell, but uh the big addition is smart watches. Um, language on that has been added as well. Um, synchronous learning language changed a little bit. Just clean that up. Diagnostic services with our school site language cleaned up a little bit. Student medications are language cleaned up a little bit. Like I said, the network and internet acceptable use policy has changed. Um, and the title one policy that Mrs. uh wrote up for us that I actually brought to you a couple months ago is in there as well. So, not huge changes, but just matches our legislation changes things up a little bit. The one thing that kind of jumped out at me was regarding the lockers >> and and I'm I'm assuming
045but do that. Um we talked about a student shouldn't use a personal lock to secure a school issue locker. Do our aletics not use it >> issue >> and in elementary of We had boxes and so >> Oh, right. >> So, it's a little different on our side. So, that was actually something that earlier this year, it's one of those situations that comes about for the first time where kid threw a lock on his locker and the teacher came up to me, hey, do we have something? And and I go and I look and we don't. So, there we go. Not an issue that comes up very often, but >> now we got motion to >> I don't think we read the next item on the list is simply a presentation of the 2526 membership
046Mr. did put this together for you to kind of look through and questions kind of recap for you. Our total count for February 1st, which is our second count day of the year, we had 11 students from our October one count. Information from October one count date, we have 848 students that live within our Community Schools District. We have 259 students attend from outside the district. So kids who transfer to transfer their child to Smith for whatever reason and 13 of those uh students are transferred to other school corporations. These are uh our students but have special ed or west. because that's where your particular specialized program is housed. And then where do the students come from? You kind of look back through there and see where he's sending us students from And that's sir
047all we have new business other business we have none >> public comments we have none >> principal reports fourth and fifth grade concert this Thursday at 6:30 if you're looking for something to Wait, wait, fourth and fifth. Have we got any information on it? >> There's been stuff coming up in Paris. >> It's on my calendar. I do. So, okay. >> You probably said it three times before my calendar. >> Okay. Round up. April 9th and 14th from 8:30 to 2:30. people are getting their reservations. I think we're close to 40 kids right now that are signed up to attend. Um, and then the last thing, do you have details on the fire department? >> It does happen. Um, our fire department is hosting um a statewide training in our auditorium for firefighters. Uh, I
048could not tell you exactly the details, but I know that any opportunity we have to get our first responders in the building and using our facilities is great. We're going to have people from all over the state coming in to use our facilities for that time. Otherwise, what firefighters do not >> sir? That's all. >> Uh, yeah. I just want to kind of celebrate again some of the things that we've had going on our show invite. I don't know if you guys have been in the building when that's happening, but it is a welloiled machine. And sometimes I want to ask that whole crew to do all they're just they're just really they literally leave the building. You would they use my own office this year. You would have never known that they were in
049offices, the gym. It's it's incredible. Um and being able to host so many people like we just said is such a cool thing. Um they ran a cheer camp this year. Um they did things a little bit differently and I it was I think there were more people for cheer camp than they were homecoming. It felt like almost they were packed in the gym. It was pretty cool. Um and our cheerleaders got to participate in the family meeting and and it was a really cool thing to try and and the numbers increased. So that was really great. Um I just want to give a public shout out to Jeff Clark, our new wrestling coach. Um 12. We've got wrestlers coming out of the woodworks. Um, and he has been really positive and has seen a
050lot of success and I just look for that program to continue. He has been a great addition to our athletic program. Want to thank everybody um Erica especially the board, Dr. Boy, for just kind of letting us try this year doing uh synchronous learning on our side of the building for both PSAT and SAT. Um, the feedback I was really I held my breath. I was worried that someone was missed the message that they were going to have kids show up. I mean, I didn't sleep before either night this year. And it was the exact opposite. A lot of parents said, "Man, I remember we had to schedule on a Saturday. We had to go. What great ways to keep the kids in the building to give them the time and the space. Um, we
051had to delay that this SAT day." I was I'm going to tell you how I felt, but it wasn't pleasant. And it was awesome. The kids did great. They took their time. They were not rushed. Um, in the cafeteria. April, everybody just made it work and uh being able to put like some serious value um on those tests are really important, especially with the change in accountability and everything else we got going on. So, thank you for letting those kids have that time. We're going to continue to hopefully do that then next year and moving forward. So, really, really important. Academic Super Bowl kicked off um and already has placed third in our competition. Archery, another program that just continues to grow. All three teams are have made it all the way through and they
052just keep winning. Um, every time there's a competition, my I have a half a page of announcements. It's awesome. I'm actually I was invited to archery practice on Wednesday night where I will be dressed and learning to shoot. The kids are going to teach me archery. So, I will be at archery practice till 7 o'clock. Um, I already spoke about the athletic campaign, but again, uh just constantly constantly amazed um what what our small doesn't feel small uh community does. I just amazing. Um Rotary auction is tomorrow night. If you're out and about um stop by um it's a really cool event. My first one was last year and they just Thank you so much for not just us at the school but the whole town which is has been awesome to watch too. Speaking
053of Rotary, I'm happy to share that this year um it's been several years my understanding I have to double check with Austin but um they have not sent students to the RIA camp which is a national camp every summer I'm sure and uh we're not only sending one we're sending three sophomores um and our bus is So pretty excited about that. Um and then Wednesday is our top 10 or annual lunch at St. James. So just some really cool things happening. So just thanks for the support. I know you guys make really decisions and you can see it as you're processing and thinking loud and um but it's been really cool to see a lot of things come to fruition now that this is coming to the end of the second year here. Um things
054that you know we wanted to I know is constantly feeling it too and we talk all the time about the changes but I just it's really cool to like be able to walk out of here like yeah they got us. So thank you a lot of lot of new stuff you know when you're asking for synchronous learning for PSAT some people are like okay but it's working and it's helpful so thank you >> uh just real quickly today was the last of our four So, I want to thank the Lord. Those have been such a blessing for us. Um, today today looked a little different than the past three have in that we um kind of put the ball in our leads courts and said, "Hey, these are some outcomes we want for you and
055your team to accomplish and they built their agendas and they got it done." So, that distributed leadership piece was really cool. Um, so good day for that. Uh, end of year testing window is coming up. So, Troy's been working with elementary that Melissa's building out her calendar. Um, but we know that this time of year just goes super quickly with everything that we have going on. We are starting to uh talk about summer school plans. So, so I read remediation for grades two and three. Melissa's got her plan together for the high school. And then we're also starting to talk some professional development. So, it's kind of exciting starting to think about next year already. >> Thank you. Uh just a couple things that already talked about this but tomorrow just spring break it happen.
056I encourage you and then again the top 10 And I would just like to say what a very cool neat tradition we have here at school high school that kids top 10 kids in the class get to invite teacher or some adult that was influential within our school to brunch with them. It's just really to see what uh congratulations to our student spotlight winners and Jillian. Wow, what an amazing amazing work. Even printed out, it looks amazing. I can't imagine what it actually looks like in person. Um from the staff spotlight, uh Mrs. als I know her bubbly personality well. So I can only imagine how she is a treat for the students that she's serving. Um donations, you know, we we talk about we are blessed to get to talk about donations every school.
057Uh you know, this one obviously with everyone's intense effort uh is amazing. The the outpour from the community uh into our extracurriculars um building projects uh is just phenomenal. Uh I if somebody would have asked me at the beginning of it what I would have thought, I would have probably guessed half that number. So to to get to that scale I think is just amazing. So kudos to the team involved and the way the way they went about it and drove it. So and and obviously thank you. Thank you to the donors. Huge huge impact on what we have going on here. I want to say congratulations to all of our winter sports and extracurriculars. Uh I know I I was able to watch, you know, many of these sports throughout the year. Um and
058I get such enjoyment of watch some of them, seeing them early and then seeing them later and seeing the improvements uh there. I don't we didn't have necessarily anything uh you know super amazing happen this year for anybody, but I I seen the growth there and those programs which is is very it's nice to see and I obviously support the wrestling program and uh what Mr. is doing there as well having seen it firsthand. Um, congratulations to Miss Maguire. Um, you know, I I get so it is amazing how many times we we get to cross this bridge from a retirement and listen to the number of years that some of our staff has here. Uh, and it's it's amazing because those people were here still not that old yet, but Um amazing just to
059be keeping that um those individuals inside the walls and wanting to stay here. So great to hear. >> Thank you. Um and then I thought the test score was pretty exciting, Mr. G. So thanks for telling us about that. I um I hope we keep heading that direction. It's pretty amazing. Um I heard that the new era invitational went great and I I'm sad that I didn't get to see it, but um I heard great things. Fang was also great. and Mrs. Tab um doing what they do on the weekends and the extra time. It's just cool to see Busco doing those things. And then all the artwork was awesome, too. Um and Mrs. Magguire holds up or Miss Magguire holds a special place in my heart. Like you said, sometimes we mean getting lunch,
060she always made you smile. Like she always just makes you feel good. Um and so I wish her all the best. >> Very good. Congrats to all the award winners from the art department. Is she going to New York to adjudication? >> I hope so. >> That'd be pretty neat. So, congrats to them and everything mentioned. That's all I have. >> Senator Julian Kelly and congratulations. I think she started graduating and I remember all the time she was talking for lunch and she was always spread them down >> give you a hard time too as you walk. >> Yeah. And then donations like that's again incredible >> every you know but this one too is just amazing. So >> yeah congratulations to the art students again. It's nice to see a bus driver acknowledged. Um,
061you know, when we talk about our staff's life, it's not just teachers making a difference, but those bus drivers make a huge difference uh in our kids lives too. I'm sure you've all been touched by bus driver even extracurricular activity or something like that and they spend a lot of extra hours outside just the morning and afternoon. Um, we're rec we're talking about Robin um and her commitment to our school, but Mr. you spell the name of the year to his passing was sad in my opinion to our school. He was he was a big part of it. Um and I think it's awesome that we received some memorials in his honor. Um just remembering what a big part he had as a shot teacher um in our school. I mean I thought that he
062was a big part of that at the school um when we were in school. Um I agree the Iron I test scores 98% passing 100% pass which is awesome. Um kudos to everything we're doing. I think making whether it's on the reading side, the math side, and I know Miss Al has had a big part of that as well as the buying from our principles on that end as well. Um, you set out a pretty lofty goal for your athletic goal. Uh, you didn't just hit it, you surpassed it. So, hearing, you know, you're already working on your arts money. That's awesome. I love the fact you have a plan for what's next and what you want to tackle next the next project. So, kudos to you. Congratulations. It was a it was a big
063number and and you you nailed it and then some. So congratulations on that. I know we do have a great PTO here. You mentioned the the mother son bingo. Just the nice little things too the PTO does for our teachers and our staff. Um I think it's great to highlight them because sometimes there are unsung heroes often. Um you know so so thanks to all that. I know we're getting to the end of that school year. So I just want to say you know good luck to our teachers as these kids start getting swirling in these last few months and the principles and everybody else. But um spring break, I feel like that last stretch after spring break is when that last month gets a little swirly for everybody. So good luck to all of
064you and thanks for for all you've done so far this school year and all you continue to do. >> Uh our next uh regularly scheduled meeting will be on April 20th. With that, we will adjourn the regular school board meeting at Smith Green Community Schools of Monday, March 16th, 2026 at 7:37. >> Thank you guys. >> I'm
