Monday, November 24th. >> No, we're not. >> No. >> Sorry. >> It's 6:28. >> Oh, this regular board meeting on November 24th at 6:30 p.m. I aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for its one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all. By focusing on excellence in education and providing opportunities for all students to succeed, we strive to be the best small school in Indiana. >> We start off with our student spotlights. >> So for student spotlights this uh month, we had a very hard time narrowing it down to one because we have so many great things going on. So, we wanted to take time to celebrate several groups that uh have had some great accomplishments. First of all, we want to recognize our student

council who obviously did an awesome job with our uh clothing drive which uh recently concluded donations to the Shepherd House. Uh we had a lot of students that participated in it. We even had a sixth grader that went above and beyond and um some great contributions to it, which is an example of how our Eagles care for one another. Uh in addition, we've uh recently had um our football season unfortunately ended early, but our football players specifically a group of seniors uh that's hard to name one because it was a group of four that grew to a group of 15 have going to participation events on Friday nights in the tournament and supported other schools even to a point that principles have taken the time to reach out to us as a school and say,

"Hey, your guys were here. They were great examples. They were supporting uh teams in a great way and we really appreciated that." And lastly, uh the conclusion of our musical uh last week or a week and a half ago, I guess. All of our kids did a great job in their performance and some people really shine. >> Great things for great things are happening. Thank you, sir. Next, I'd like to share our staff spotlight with you. In this case, it is Boston. She was nominated by one of her students and she said she's my piano teacher and she is really nice. I can tell you this lady is as black and old as they come. She spends tremendous donates tremendous amount of her time uh to several different uh programs here and most importantly to

our kids and we can't thank her enough for all that she does. celebrations. Anything you want to share? I don't want to take anybody's uh uh we were just excited to have our veteran ceremony back. Mr. Fley took the lead on that. So, it was great to um get that going. Our kids were terrific. We got really good feedback. hoping to grow on that next year. Another celebration I guess on our side that I didn't mention already was uh we recently uh have started a thankfulness program uh that hers uh introduced the group uh in the secondary group and she was concerned about how it would go over that that it wouldn't necessarily be um uh it would be geared more towards an elementary. So, she wasn't sure about participation. Uh, but the the participation

has been overwhelming and our kids and our adults in our building are taking a great amount of time to appreciate one another and share their thankfulness. As is evident, if you walk through our halls, you'll see that there are turkeys on the wall at each uh door and feathers on those turkey where people have taken the time to to recognize specifically things they thankful for for people. Like I said, the worry that it wouldn't be uh secondary enough so to speak, but it really took at all levels which has been pretty exciting to see. >> Thank you, sir. Couple things I'd like to share is I'd like to draw your attention to our new art hanging on around the room. Uh these pieces are from our elementary artists. Excellent. We would also like to congratulate

uh Mr. Nate Thomas and all the people who helped with the production of women did a great job. Musical was very entertaining participate. >> You did a good job. >> Would like to uh wish all our winter sports and athletes good luck. Uh they are all up and running now. Matter of fact, Saturday I went to watch wrestling team and they went 4 and one starting out the season. Exciting to see that. Uh since we didn't have the opportunity to recognize them before the 11th, we'd like to thank all our veterans. And when I say we, just as a board, um, I know the school did couple different programs for Veterans Day, but we would just like to thank our veterans in our community and those who are employed here at Smith Green for their

service. Then the last thing, we would like to congratulate all the students who were inducted into the National Honors Society last Wednesday. We are very proud. to see all those students involved. >> Oh, sure. Okay. There are no public comments addressing items on the agenda. So, we can move to the consent agenda and table. >> I would like to draw your attention down to proposed field trips uh June 2028. Uh the want to take a trip to Italy. This is not a go. Obviously, they're just asking for your blessing so they can see if there's enough interest to obviously you guys bless this closer if that trip's actually going to happen. And then the last thing I would just like to bring to your attention is fundraisers that have come up here. Once again, I

really like the the new fundraiser attachment that we have on here. I think that would be beneficial forward. >> Any questions agenda? >> Motion to approve second. All those in favor? I to the person. >> Couple things I'd like to draw your attention to. Mrs. Stephanie Bowser, language arts teacher at high school, a student resation effected January 15th and also Brandon, junior high math teacher resation that was effective November 14th. And then retal for their service. Students make a motion to accept the personnel report. >> All those in favor? business. >> Business. Um, we've asked for your approval for amending the 2025 2026 elementary parent student handbook. And I'll ask Mr. This is Mrs. Al has been working really hard after our title audit to get some things tightened up and improved upon with our

title program. So, um all it is is it's our title one parent involvement policy explaining to parents what our title program is, what their rights are as parents. So, um originally I had it in our draft for next year, but we went ahead and amended it for this year so we can get it updated on the website. Recently we've been kind of having these presented for review and then on the following month I noticed this time this was the first time across just a more than anything. So just the consistency I think would be so this isn't this isn't next year's handbook. So I'll come with a proposal for that. This is just to add the parent. >> I was I'll be back next month. >> Motion second from the handbook. >> I'll motion to

approve the amendment of the 2526 CES parent. >> All those in favor? >> Yes. Next, we are asking for your approval for a 2% raise for our nerfed salary schedule and then also that includes transportation salaries. I'll make a motion to approve the 2% non-certified second. >> All those in favor comments there also is none. Um, so we can go to principal accept. >> I'll keep it real short and sweet. Um, Melissa and the high school counselors and I met last week to talk about course offerings for the upcoming school year. So, we're excited to look at that and um, you know, everything that we can offer kiddos. We have some new legislation that Right now, uh, starting next school year, students who are in grades 5 through seven and who score in above on

the island have to automatically be enrolled in an advanced math course for the following year. Um, so currently we don't have that in place. So next year we're looking to offer advanced math at the junior high for every grade. Um, with the fact that kids will take algebra one and eighth grade year. So we have to look at the curriculum for grades six and seven because there's standards that have to be taught that seventh grade year to prepare them for eighth grade. So, we compact some standards and um we're going to kind of pre on how that works, but um we're working on that force progression and we're excited to be able to offer that for kiddos. Uh we're working on aligning our reading intervention program for the junior high. We're going to start doing

some back testing um just to look for some gaps and um working with our English teachers and special ed teachers on what that intervention program should look like. Um And I just want to mention that we are excited. We're looking at our data uh so far for K through five and our reading intervention data and we're seeing the fruits of our labor. We're seeing our kids grow and we're more meticulous this year about looking at that data, but it's a celebration to be here almost toward the end of the semester and start to see some really great growth. >> So how will the like the differ from say that we have? >> Yeah. So, um, it's sixth grade year. Those kiddos are going to see sixth and seventh grade standards. >> Um, so it's going

to be a little more rigorous. Seventh grade year, we really want it to be a pre-alpha focus, which the pre-alggebra standards and the eighth grade standards are similar. >> Um, but then that eighth grade year will be algebra one. So, it's going to we're just being more meticulous because what happens is sometimes when we offer honors courses, we don't drill down into the standards and um so 8th grade math, there are geometry standards that kids have to have as prerequisites for high school geometry. And often times when we put kids in algebra one, we forget about some of those eighth grade standards that fall off. So, we're really looking at each course, each level, and making sure those standards all get are all accounted for. So just be more meticulous about it. >> And for

the superintendent report, uh once again we are considering from Smith from the special co-op. If you remember we did this once back in November 2024, but we sended it when there was a change in leadership. We hopes that there be some price controls in place as well, but unfortunately that didn't seem to happen. So once again looking at the coal. So if we do completely withdraw the 2027 2028 school year >> again it has absolutely nothing to do with the services but has everything to do with other than I was late and I missed about half the meeting at this rate. >> That's all I have. >> Um I went to the musical I thought it was fantastic. Thomas does such a good job and it was great and it kept my two-year-old entertained for

like half. So, um and uh Miss Palmet is um pretty great. She was around back when I did plays and musicals, too. She was just a wonderful human. >> Uh student council donations, that's super exciting. We got kids doing those kind of things. So, thanks for sharing that. >> Thank you again to everyone, especially the ones you never see. The sound was better. The lights are better. >> All of that investment. >> It was so cool. It was way better than it. I mean, I could imagine went really well. Congratulations to Delaney who I saw got chosen to go do a day of study with Heather Hedley who was in town was in the international Broadway star and she got a day of personal attention. So good for her. Congratulations. That's all I have. Congratulations

of course the art and I had a quarter of some of that talent that did that. But anyway, and then I'm excited. Congratulations and stuff on that. Hope everybody has a great holiday >> and time off. >> Well, with that, we'll call an end to the Monday, November 24th regular board meeting at 6:48. I could hold back.
