Allegiance, please. Pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Great. Good evening. We will call this meeting to order at 5:32 p.m. Reflected we do have a quorum. Um, delayed additions, there doesn't appear to be any. So, with that said, would someone like to make a motion to approve the agenda? I'll make a motion to approve the agenda. Motion made by Bunch. >> I'll second. Second by Longy. All those in favor signify by saying aye. Aye. Opposed, same sign. Motion carries. Um, there aren't any bodies signed up for the public for any public comments on agenda items, so let it be routine matters. Minutes of regular sessions of March 19th, 2026, claims 54339,

00254588, and payrolls for March 30th of 2026 and April 15th of 2006. Or 2026, sorry. I'll make a motion to approve the minutes, claims, and payrolls as presented. Motion made by Bunch. I will second. Second by Longy. All those in favor signify by saying aye. Aye. Opposed, same sign. Motion carries. Letter C, communications, Mr. Mahaffey. Hey everyone, the highlight for the month that we want to be sure we publicize is that our athletic department in our high school is going to be hosting their inaugural Raider Day of Caring. So, it's the first time that we put this on. And this is going to be an opportunity for our high school athletes to come together and do a service project within our community. And they've chosen that for this year the service project is going to

be done in partnership with a Kids Place, which is a local business here in town that does a great job providing child care for our for a lot of our families here in our community. And um our high school athletes will be uh taking June 24th from 8:30 in the morning until 1:00 in the afternoon to give back to our community through a lot of hands-on service projects that day to support local needs like lawn and landscape maintenance, organizational tasks, or house maintenance. Uh I would say contact Coach Buening uh if anyone has questions about that. Um but again, uh it's a it's a day for our athletes to give back uh to our community. So, we're excited about that. Uh look forward to uh seeing our athletes going out and doing that here within

our community here. Also, we just want to point out a couple of other things. Um in our middle school, we had seven of our sixth-grade students receive a perfect score on their recent ILEARN checkpoint 3, which is very rare, very proud of that. Got kids probably sitting in here today who've been practicing for their ILEARN coming up next week. And uh we're excited to see how you guys do. We know you guys will do a great job. We know you've been working hard. And we're really proud of the job those sixth-graders did on that. We also want to talk about at Huntingburg Elementary, our uh math bowl team had a great performance where they finished second in their division recently in a competition against a strong field. Uh and all of those competitors are listed

there in the the agenda. So, uh we thank them for their strong performance in that. And at Holland Elementary, we also want to draw attention to their math bowl team who finished first in the red small school division at Cedar Crest. Want to congratulate them in the job that they did as well. At this time, the highlight of the night is having Hunt- Huntingburg Elementary come and present to us a lot of the exciting things happening within their school. So, we're going to call Principal Anselment uh up to the uh podium there and uh take over and show what you guys got going. I'm going to move so I can see the projector. Thank you. Um thanks for being here tonight, kiddos and families. We appreciate it. Um so what we wanted to kind of

show you a little glimpse of some things that go on at Huntington Elementary. Um we are working our way to be We want to be a lighthouse school with Leader in Me. Um and one of the most important pieces of that is that the students are taking that ownership in their learning. Uh it's not just the teachers making the lesson plans, but um these guys know what they're doing and why. So um we have just a couple pictures, a little um presentation, but then we're going to turn it over to the kids. Um they're going to be seated by you and sharing um their own leadership notebooks with you. So basically what it is um we track, we document um their learning, their progress, um achievements, and why we want to increase that depth of

the student empowerment and ownership. Um it says they're actively using their binders because they use them um sometimes on a daily basis um definitely a weekly basis um teachers we have even one in the room they hand back, you know, test kids track it um they know how they did um instantaneously. So we want them to know where they are and where they're growing. And that's just a cute picture of a couple of our um first grade kiddos. Um this was back in the fall. They were preparing for student-led conferences. So it that is important to note um that was new this year kindergarten all the way up through fifth grade um each presented their um uh notebooks to their parents through student-led conferences. Okay. Here it goes. Um so why this matters um so

whenever, you know, the student is engaged and they're reflecting in their own learning, we're building uh the habits that strengthen their achievement and their independence. So um we want their hands in it. They're learning how to look at data, their performance, they're learning how to set goals, smart goals, and teachers work with them, you know, to cuz obviously kids might say, "I want to read a thousand books." Well, that's awesome and I want you to, too. But, we help them to develop those goals that they can obtain and then be super proud of. So, and finally, just some other pictures. We have another layer to this called buddy classes. So, each grade level pairs with another grade level and they do other activities through the year, but we also every once in a while bring

them together. So, this is looks like fourth grade and first grade coming together. So, fourth graders are sharing their learning, their education with the first graders. First graders are sharing theirs as well with fifth graders. So, this happens building-wide, which is a really cool practice to bring our kids together and let them share. And I love the bottom says, "HBE students are not just learning, they are leading their learning." Okay, so we're going to get in the action part of this, which is the fun part. You guys are each going to have a couple kiddos. I do have it I've got it listed who will sit with each of you. But, this isn't agenda. This is what we Some of them might have something a little bit different in their notebooks cuz teachers did create

some that were just a little bit more personal to their grade level. But, the students have their own their own little agenda they'll walk through, they'll greet themselves, greet you, introduce themselves. But, it does give you as an adult some questions that you might ask. You do not have to stick to this by any means. They have a copy in their binders. But, just any questions that you have about what you're seeing or what they're showing you, feel free to ask them. They'll be happy to share. So, I'm going to introduce the kiddos and then seat them next to you and let them share their learning. Any questions on that before I do? Okay. All right, you guys ready? Mhm. Okay. Um all right, I've got kindergarten student uh Piper Payne. And I learned that

Piper Piper sparkles um shining in the sun, so Piper um is going to go with Mrs. Kippenbrock. If you just kind of wave at them, they'll bring their binders. Yeah. I like that little dress that you have on there, girl. That's cuz she was ready. Okay. Um we have two first grade students. I've got Avery Schuckle and Ralston Foose. And Avery and Ralston, um you're going to pair up with Miss Bench over there. All right, GUYS. UH second graders, I've got Maya Sparrow and Kaylee Shetty. And you guys will pair with Mrs. Longhi. And third grade, Hudson Combs, Jocelyn DeVillis. I have you paired with Mrs. Schwartz, so let me get her. Let's just scoot over. Fourth grade, Cameron Sparrow and Braylon Schwinger, you are with our superintendent, Mr. Mahaffey. All right. Nobody said sorry.

Um and fifth grade students, Lexi Modis and Aiden Hoaxing, I have you with Mr. Minky over there. All right, guys, go ahead and get started. You can have them even just sit on either side of you. That's the easiest. So, do you want to send one of them first? Or do you want to sit on this side? There you go. Okay. How are you guys doing today? What your name is? I like your dress. Okay. What do you want to learn? Awesome. Okay. I'll be a leader sitting crisscross applesauce. Tell me a little bit about me. All right, on Montana, huh? Hey. I love the mountains.
