I'll call to order the uh uh school board public work session for Tuesday, October 14th. Um first item uh on the agenda is Dr. Glaze with the House of Representatives voter information. >> Yes. Um I several of you shared uh the mailer that came out um a couple of weeks ago. Ironically, I got the same mailer uh as well. Uh different representative, same mailer. Uh so that's just kind of uh uh the way that that's operating. And again, so it's all, you know, has the same information of course. Uh but again, um there's nothing really specialized, you know, about individual districts or anything within that. So um basically, it looked much like this. I've I've erased uh names and such uh to protect the innocent and uh and so but basically this is the flyer
that most people received and and I think what what caught our eyes and you know caught my eyes as well uh was this figure of 640 million and the 5% increase and um and we've had a lot of conversation you know around our meetings and everywhere else about um our current financial situation and and where we are. So I I first want to say that what they've put out there is not dishonest. It's not wrong. It it is it it is out there, but there are some other things that are going to come into play uh with that that figure. So part of what I wanted to do uh today was just kind of break that down a little bit and kind of talk that through. Uh so again once once I mentioned what I
mentioned before it's kind of the same mailer sent by local representatives uh funding increase uh for K12 64 million or 160 640 million I'll get that out and then you know information about it being nearly half of the state budget and then educational accomplishments. All of that was in within that flyer. And u so we talked a little bit about um you know again it's just kind of a standardized form letter that they're sending out and uh certainly understand um you know trying to get their information out. I know that um a lot of the representatives are catching some heat because there are a lot of schools that are in the similar conversation that we are in. And uh so I first want to start things out by saying thank you to them because across
the board uh state funding in in a lot of different departments and a lot of different agencies at the state level was decreased and we did get an increase and I am thankful for that. Um it it again um I I I would I would hate to sit here and try to figure out how we were going to move forward if we would have had a decrease in funding and also the hits that we've had with property taxes and everything else. So, um again, I want to thank them for for the increase. Um and uh and then really what we're going to try to talk about a little bit is the accuracy of the statement and then just kind of breaking down the numbers. Um, I've shared this with you all. Uh, this was part
of my budget uh, presentation, but we get this from the, uh, from the Indiana Office of Budget and Management. This comes out pretty quickly after they've approved a budget. So, we have a general idea of how school funding is going to operate. So, as you look down here, um, they do, uh, projected enrollments. Um, we we fortunately we were above that that number. So that's great. So that that's a positive. Uh but um you know that's that's again one of those things that has a factor in how we are funded. Uh as you're looking down here really at the bottom line we're looking at this uh 5.6 increase for 2026 budget year 2026 and then a 2.1% increase for budget year uh 27. And these are just general estimates. These are not, you know, and
and honestly, when everything works out, they're pretty close. I mean, within $15$20 of of of this total is really kind of where we end up. So, they're pretty accurate. So, breaking this down just a little bit, and it looks like I have lost some zeros here. I'm not sure exactly how that happened, but anyway. Um so as we are looking at um the tuition support we're talking about uh 6 and um 40 million which is the 5.6 uh% increase. And one thing that that they failed to mention was the fact that we um did have within that funding formula we have the curricular materials. So essentially curricular materials were was a separate by line in the budget in the past and what they wanted to do was to um what they wanted to do was
to put that into the funding formula. They've that's a been a thing that the Indiana General Assembly has done for several uh different um for several different um budget years. And I I have my suspicions on why they do that. I I won't share those because they're just strictly my suspicions. So, as we're looking at this, we're breaking down exactly how much money per student we're talking about. So, we're talking about $462 per kid. Uh, then it's important for us to take away the $160 per student that is allocated for curricular materials. Now, in in our situation, we spend more than the $160 uh dollars. Uh, elementary, middle is pretty good. where we we end up going over is really in high school because we offer a lot of dual credit. We offer a lot
of of uh courses that again their their materials are expensive. So that's additional um additional dollars that we have to spend. So as we're looking at this, so the real increase after your takeaway this is 3.5%. Um, and I would say in a normal year we would be thrilled with that. Um, and that, you know, again, it's it's it's a decent amount of new money. Um, however, with the increases on property taxes, we planned uh to lose and and our budget states that we're going to lose an additional $287 thou,000 uh really due to the homestead credit kicking in uh this year in in in 26. So, uh that has an immediate impact on us. So after you take that away because you know we have to use we will have to use some kind
of dollars to replace those dollars we're losing. So essentially um we will have to use use that you know use what we would have received in the education fund to really supplement what we have in the in the operation fund. So, it means we're going to have a little bit higher transfer rate than what we've had in the past. Uh, but again, this is just what we have to do in order to pay the utilities, keep the doors open. So, our actual increase really is about $85 a kid, which is about 1%. So, that would be the the the percentage of new money that we have. It's around 130,000. Yes. >> To the previous slide, we have more students than they projected. >> Yes. >> Does that help? This math is different, right? Yes. Does
that help us? >> It does help us um to a degree. Uh however, what what happens is um we still have to make up for for those losses that we're getting in in operation. So, we do get some more dollars in in the education fund. Um but there also there are there are expenses that need to come out of there like around 260,000 for for um for textbook for curricular materials because we did not have enough funds when we projected our budget to cover curricular materials. when we when you see the 26 budget, we kind of we we gave a really rough estimate, but it was a low estimate on what we spend for curricular materials. So once we did get that additional that additional revenue, a lot of that was taken up because of
unfunded part of material. >> So the $160, everybody in the state gets that regardless of what they're spending. >> Correct. Yes. Correct. So to say to answer your question, yes, we did get more money. Uh unfortunately, we also had to spend it on curricular materials. Not unfortunately, it was also it was kind of it was uh handcuffed into that into that silo. That was a bad example. Anyway, so and uh so for uh 2027, uh you might notice that there's that 2.1% increase. And again, there are times uh in in our recent past where we would have been really happy with that. Um but again, the the additional transfer that's going to be coming out of um it will have to come out in order to balance things in the operation fund. Uh really puts
us into kind of a negative scenario. So, you take that $187, which is just dividing the allocation by the number of students that we have. Um, that drops things down to negative $87 per student for 27. uh in order to make up for those property tax losses. I will use this example as well and I'm using very conservative numbers because um the uh vouchers always cost more than what they initially think and uh so they've estimated it to be around $90 million. Okay. Um it's always been more. Um, so basically, but I'm taking that number. So, um, so 90 million and then so that's really about $82 per student, per Indiana student that will be lost due to voucher expansion. And uh, so could we have used that $90 million? Yep. Sure could have. uh
and uh but that that expansion is taking those dollars away uh from really all public school students. Um and uh and again it's good for the press release. It's good for that kind of information, but in reality it is continuing to take dollars away uh from public school kids. So kind of using the big dollars here. So we're we're deducting curricular materials. We are, you know, deducting the voucher expansion. So real increase statewide is about 374,000 or 374 million. Um again, a big difference about half of really what it is. And uh and then this this number of course does not account for any kind of property tax losses. So in additional funding that would be the number So, one of the one of the other comments in there that the educa education is nearly
half the state budget. That's accurate. Um, and that's a very true statement statement. In 2008, Indiana, we were kind of in the same situation we are in right now. Property taxes were high. They were trying to create some property tax relief. So they shifted um the the liability for property on of property taxes and moved it to a statewide sales tax. So essentially what happened is they took that that 1% that they're collecting at the at the state level and then they're distributing that back out to all the schools to pay for the full uh tuition support of the student. back in back in the day when I was a lot younger and didn't have as much gray hair, um it was kind of a 5050. So, what would have been considered our education fund
would have been funded about 50% from the state and about 50% from local property taxes. So, when they made that shift, then it centralized the funding to the state level, which is what made it 50% of the state budget. So again, when we before the school had a little bit of a little bit of power to keep the local tax rate in hand and uh and try to make things work within within that budget. Uh so once this moved to that sales tax model, then that whole system changed. And uh so again, that's where you get the the the idea of the money following the state. So because that's just coming straight out from the state, they just divide what they what that funding resource is out by the number of students and and there
you have your funding. And uh one thing that I would really love and I I didn't see that in the in the the notes or in that that particular flyer is I just really want to thank Indiana educators uh because um you know again the the people that are in the trenches uh deserve the pat on the back and uh and I certainly appreciate what our educators do and and certainly when we're looking at some of the national games that Indiana's that I I do think that that's uh a lot of hard work from some really great educators in the state of Indiana and uh I I just feel like that uh it'd be nice to have a uh thank you in there and a flyer from, you know, from people who uh who are
elected officials. Again, uh you know, part of the humility is, you know, yeah, they they may may have had some some input in on on policy, some other things like that, but the people doing the work always deserve more credit. So, anyway, thank you educators for those educational accomplishments. And that's it. You guys have any questions on that? Um, we tested about this today, but has the new AV officially been released? It has been released. >> Yes. >> A bit ago. >> Yeah. And it went up 1.1%. Do you know the dollar figure? It was not much. >> Yeah, it was not. >> It wasn't a large difference. Not a large. >> I think we're hearing that it hasn't released to us, but it has. >> Yeah, >> it was released some time ago >>
when we did the draft agendas or the draft budgets. >> It was late. Typton >> Tiffan County was one of the latest to certify the net A. >> So, and I think it was the end of last month. Usually is supposed to come out and early August. Is that right? >> Yeah. And uh we didn't get it until near the end of class. >> And the DLGF has um if you go to that website, you can sign up for um alerts from them and they will send you an email that tells you this should have been released to the school. This should have been released to your municipality. This should have been released, you know, so you can click on it and >> be disappointed. So, so yeah. Yeah. >> But no, we have them.
>> Yes. >> Yeah. >> So, anyway, that's that. >> I know we haven't asked any questions today or anything on money, so I just want to make sure everybody's good. >> Everybody, any questions on this or anything before we move to the next agenda item? >> All right. Well, thank you for that, Dr. Blaze. Appreciate that. >> Um, Dr. Hecman is uh next on our agenda with the 2025 spring survey results. >> I am going to screen if that's all right. >> Yep. I need to relinquish. >> Yeah, I can do that. So I present a video because people tend to pay more attention to the video than they do to me. And so um I will show the video. This is also what I want to send out community updating on why we do
these things. I think the more time you're showing people we look at these things, they matter, your voice matters. It's import We try to do that as much as we can. We do that with the staff. We did it the other day. And so that's just piece of what I want to send out here. >> Does this go on the website? >> This would go in an email, I think, thanking everyone for kind of why we thank you for taking survey. than that. Get back from >> Yes. Yes. It'll be part of the November newsletter, >> but somebody in another state couldn't see it. >> Yeah. There our newsletters are all posted on the website. They are, so you could just go on there and see it. Yeah. >> Okay. >> For some reason, it
didn't go on there. >> Okay. >> All right. Absolutely. >> Sure. How >> I'm still feeling complaints about being out of candy at the end. >> I know. >> I give them I've been giving them Scott's name. >> Yeah. >> Don't worry. Next year there will be an abundance of candy. >> I'll have a secret storage again. >> The golf cart full of can. >> We'll still pass it all out. >> I know. That's the thing is that doesn't matter how much the start. They got to pace themselves and but there's always so many more at the end. >> I had to catch a break. >> We'll have tons. >> All right. On the wrong one. >> So, it is going instead. I don't know where it was. >> Nothing makes me feel more like
my father than to be struggling with technology. >> I know it. I know it. All right, I got it. Only took four tries. falls. what it is, why it matters, how we made my own partnership in the spring Before diving into the founding ideas between family school, collaborating school program relationship from about 65 Stanley shared that question already. While our train expressire authentic together. They ask for flexible meaningful notigation. All student goalent learning at home. Many parents have like students also said they appreciate learning at home. They're getting clear information. also said to each other framework district collaboration across department. That was a nice preview. Um, so I will try I will upload and I will send it to you guys tonight. Having technical problems with it. um that was almost so we've gone through
our second spring survey zeroed in on what fall survey we took that data um we made building level changes middle school due to that students um really voiced they wanted input on things they want to be part of things they want to be seen and so we kind of created a little advisory group just helping us get information out share what they want to share and help make decisions um we also started a group group which had and it's been great input and a lot of these things we're talking about directly relate we're able to talk about a lot of learning at home making and directly um moving forward I think that this next round completes the full cycle we'll be able to compare the 2004 data 2025 data and that'll be very beneficial um
I think to see where we also zero in on those three areas decision making learning at home volunteering and able to focus on that I think this is going to be a extremely helpful tool next summer. We're kind of developing our strategic plan forward and we're going to be able to align data and significant data by that point data point and spring. So I think it would be very effective and um we information as much as we can with staff but I'd really like to continue sharing it with and I think it's really important that that they know when they're doing a survey it's not just you know being glanced at the side that we're doing something and You guys have any questions? >> I have one question. Are we >> um so as far
as knowledge transfer, so something's working in a parent communication from a teacher, do we have a library or an online place where other teachers can go and look for resources or templates of things to use? I some people may be teacher may be more creative than another. Are we trying to keep content that could be reused and help the teachers communicate better on the home stuff? >> Yeah, I think when building level I know speak for the middle school. I think you'll see a lot of that great team meetings. You'll see a lot of that with PLC work. Okay. >> Um as far as like throughout the district I don't know and grade level so different sometimes too but I think that we do share in that. I think that one thing we did our
we had our survey go out for the fall 7:25 on Monday and it's been great. I So, we've had 75 parents already do it, which is a great job. And one thing that I'm seeing consistently is the um parent square that has been really beneficial. And then on the staff side, the beneficial of we're all using kind of the same thing. Now, I think universally using that same tool, some of that communication is extremely effective. >> Thank you. >> Does that go out as an email? How you're communicating? Yeah. >> Yeah. So, we sent it out. Dr. Bla sent an announcement just kind of saying, you know, we're doing it again. Gave some brief insight into why we're doing it, which I think is also important piece, not just throwing it out. Here's the survey.
Here's how we're using it. Little introduction. Um, after that, we had our principal send it out to our community. So, you did your community survey, your staff survey, and your student survey. And they're all the same questions, maybe word a little different, um, but they're measuring the same thing, six categories. And so the student one will go out Wednesday through Friday in grades four through 12 and this meeting one went out Monday and the staff went out Monday. We had about 35 staff and about 65 parents but it goes out with an email the link they click and it's done through um University of Dayton. I still have the tools for research and it's done through politics which is you know the top confidentiality and it's able to do a lot of this for me.
I just wonder I mean because to go out Tammy and I aren't parents of any kids so >> yeah we didn't see it >> twice maybe three times from the middle school to high school and I think I received >> So do you do it you do it once for your middle school student and once for your high school student >> and we and we also will send out reminders um you know for people as it begins to close because we're looking at closing it over the end of fall break. Isn't that right? And is this through what is it called? Power something. >> Parent Square. >> Yeah. >> So that's how it goes out. >> Yeah. We send it through our staff through email. And for the students, what we'll probably have them do
is um send it to teachers and they can either um type it in or scan a QR code, but community it went out through. And one thing is um the first time since we've been doing it, it will automatically translate in Spanish. and we had two um families that um I'm gonna have John for me um that we have that's great that we're actually having you know that use that's awesome >> right I will send you a link when we get it uploaded >> and sorry technical difficulties and let me know if you have any other questions about it but once again um thank you for letting me do it I think it's a great tool thank you >> for all together the video that's a lot >> well I wish I would put a
little more I'll get it to you guys. Thank you. >> Thank you. All right. Um, next item on our list is to review the board agenda. Um, we've got our normal pledge and and uh tell u vision statement which Tammy is going to lead for us this evening. Um, she drew the short straw tonight. Uh, that will go through tell me something good. Uh, the blue future awards uh any comments from the community. Then we'll move into our consent agenda. uh Dr. Glaz's report, uh Brook's report, and then um second reading on batch seven, and then um new business would be the adoption of the budget, um approval of the retirement of Dr. Glaze and subsequent rehiring um after a period of time. And then uh recommendation for uh the assistant superintendent uh that was
in your packet. And then uh just an acknowledgement of the first reading of batch 8. I did want to thank everybody for uh leaning in on uh policy D600. I know we want to get that tightened up before next month's meeting. So early communication was really good and I just appreciate that help um because I have no idea what I'm looking at when I look at that. So somebody who's done the work is is uh always always helpful. And then um the only other thing on our both on our public works session agenda and on our um regular agenda would be the advisory committee um that's meeting on 9:22. It is the second meeting of the uh expense reduction review uh committee and in your packet there is an agenda um for that group that's
uh that's meeting on the 22nd. >> That's actually a typo. It should be 9:27. Sorry about that. Yeah. My fault. >> A 1027. Yeah, let's try 102725. Thank you. >> Wow. >> Yeah, I was really uh really >> it all cylinders right there. Yeah. Sorry about that. >> Yeah, next meeting 10:2725. My apologies for the record. >> Um and uh there is an agenda in in the uh in the packet. So, um any questions on the agenda for the next meeting? >> Nope. Anything? All right. uh then I would say the public works work session is adjourned and we will reconvene in 25 minutes for our regular meeting. Thank you. Uh, welcome everybody to the Typton Community School Corporation School Board meeting. I will call the meeting to order and Tammy is going to lead
us in the pledge of allegiance and the vision statement. >> I aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Division statement is growing power of nation. This is really interesting. the voice behind. >> Did somebody say theories? >> He's got a side hustle. >> All right. Thank you for that. Um on to the next part of our agenda. Uh this is a tell me something good. this is an opportunity uh for the board to speak into something they've observed uh in the in the school community um and uh and talk about that briefly. So, I'd open that up to the board if anybody has anything for tell me something good. >> I have
one. So, I always So, um I think when we look into filling roles that have been filled by the same person for so long, that comes with um a lot of apprehension. And I just think that Colin Quinn has done a phenomenal job as our um new high school athletic director um wrapping up all of his fall seasons. I know personally, I've seen him working the ticket booth. I've heard him be the announcer. Um, he has been here later than I think anybody most nights. He's unlocking the doors in the morning, locking the doors at night. Um, he even drove the bus for the tennis team. Um, I don't think there's anything that man's not willing to do and I think that's phenomenal and we had um, a really good hire there. >> I would
recommend or call out, I guess, the uh, the boys soccer team for their sectional championship. Um, and I would also uh want to reference um it is an excellent example of what happens when a structure is put in a middle school program that feeds into a high school program and Dave Maddox and Adam Tragasser and a few other people that have been in the middle school um um working those kids and now they're flowing into Eli and David's group and um it's really really good to see them have those results and um that would be my contribution for tell me something good. I I I just think it's great that they've accomplished another sectional um championship in soccer. >> I had an opportunity to visit the Tesso movie night with the elementary school and I
just want to shout out to Tesso. There's a ton of work that goes into that group doing things for our students, for our families, for our school. Um, particularly that evening, I think the thing that I enjoyed is families, all demographics, could just come out and enjoy a free event and it was a beautiful night with lots of activities and so huge thanks to Tesso and everyone that was a part of that. >> Anybody else? >> All right, next on our agenda is uh Blue Future Awards, which is probably why the vast majority of you are here. Um, unless you're interested in our consent agenda. Um, so I think I'm supposed to lead that off, right? Okay. Um, so mine for um this this month. Um, I don't know. >> Okay. So, we recently just
ran uh two weeks, the Typton Community Theater just ran two weeks of the play that goes wrong and um I was uh the stage manager for that production and I had the privilege of working alongside Luke and Bella and for the first time we have run a very technical program, two weeks of tech week, um six perform or five perform six performances and we ran it all with students. in the sound and we ran without mics dropping, mics popping, a very physical show. We had actors flying off of things and uh these two did an amazing job um with highmaintenance actors and actresses of of making sure that every bit of our sound um was was spoton. So, I wanted to call out both of you and the Sparks program and Mrs. Wallen for just
an amazing job um in a really um I I would say it's it was an intense environment uh for two weeks of tech in the auditorium. So uh my blue future for this uh for this month goes to Luke and Bella uh for their roles in the uh spark program for um uh the play that goes wrong. Thanks. And Luke did a great job on the drums uh for uh the concert as well this week. So last >> Thank you. I think that right just said he said me first. You like it better. Oh, it was Brian. Sorry, Brian. First, I'd like to call Josie Butler and Kennedy Lancaster to the front. No reason for you to sit while I'm talking about you. So, it seems like uh every year we spend a little bit
of time talking about our our golfers because they always seem to like, you know, do awesome things. Um and this year is no different. So, um, Kennedy and Josie both, uh, advanced out of the sectional in girls golf, and like that's kind of easy to say, but we are in one of the toughest sectionals in the state of Indiana, probably the toughest in the state of Indiana. And, uh, that's no small feat. They do it regularly, it seems, so it's it doesn't seem like a big deal, but the amount of work and and time and u, you know, being able to hold it all together through that. Uh, this year's sectional contest had some weather and some stuff that that made things difficult. Um, but both of these ladies, uh, you know, powered through it,
showed grit and determination, and represented Typton, uh, really well. Um, so I wanted to recognize both of them, Josie and Kennedy, for advancing to regionals. Next, if Emily is Emily here. Oh, Emily. Emily, Mumbau, Isa is here. Quinn and McKenna. Two out of four. Ain't bad. So, these uh four students um each year the Indiana Association of School Principles um holds uh what's called the Indiana Rising Star Award. And really it's up to me as the as the principal to kind of look through our class and find four juniors. So class of 27 this year um that would be kind of on a short list to be uh nominated for Indiana academic all-star their senior year. So um looking at this um like obviously GPA plays into that, SAT plays into that. These all four
of these people have over four 4.0's. They've got great SAT scores. But I was blown away. I I had a little dot system as I was looking through all the things that they were a part of. Be it extracurricular activities, um NHS, uh student council, uh we've got the mayor's youth leadership. I mean, anything that I could put down there, these four seem to have a dot or multiple dots, um in that area, and it just speaks to the amount of uh of work they do. They could show up and do the school stuff and be really good at that. Um, but they're also the people that are at the forefront and doing just a ton of stuff for our school and representing Typton High School how we want them to be. So, um, Quinn
is preparing for regional soccer and I don't know where Emily is. Probably getting ready for sectional volleyball. Yeah. So, those two are not here, but congratulations Isa and Then I have one more. I don't know. Is Phil Morgan here? I think I saw Phil. Well, I want to recognize Mr. Morgan. I try to recognize the staff member as much as we can as well. And Phil is someone that or Mr. Morgan is someone I think deserves a lot of uh recognition at Typton High School because he's kind of again one of those gap fillers. He's doing a lot of the stuff um that if somebody won't, Bill will step in. This month I wanted to highlight uh Phil's involvement with the recycling program. He took that over from Mrs. Warner who got it up and
running and he now organizes the junior class to get all the recycling through the corporation in the blue bin out back making sure that gets um all emptied. Uh so we're being environmentally conscious and recycling. Uh but it also provides juniors the opportunity to make money for their senior trip or if they've been transfers in, they can also do recycling to help pay for their cap and gown for recycling. So just wanted to recognize Mr. Morgan for everything he does for Typton High School. So thank you Phil. Good evening. Um so I this evening I'm three out of five is my percentage for the night. Uh but I would like to uh recognize this evening the collective no Dr. Hackman is is four out of four. I'm three out of five for my uh staff
and I'm recognizing today the TMS athletic director which at this point now is a conglomeration of five human beings. So if I could have Linda Sprinkles come on up. Tisha Glaspurn come on up and Martha Burrus come on up as well. The people who are not here this evening of course already mentioned one of them. Mr. Colin Quinn exactly who's who's working right now. Uh and then uh Missy Henry could not be here uh either. So, um, as I know all of you guys are aware, but of course letting the room know as well, uh, we no longer have an official TMS athletic director who is a member of our official office staff. And I'm going to be honest, it was the number one thing keeping me up at night in August of this school
year. Uh, just saying, "How is this going to work? What's going to happen here?" And I had no reason to worry because much like the Power Rangers, when five people come together as one, we can do great things. Uh maybe if you need an earlier reference, uh Captain Planet, okay, and the planeteers, okay? Uh so I wanted to introduce I'm trying to get all the different generations here. So Voltron, I don't know, whatever the point is, uh five people did a lot. And so I kind of wanted to recognize those people. Those who are here, we've got, of course, Miss Martha Burus, who was already doing wonderful things in our concessions. Uh she had already before uh you know, we're talking about this working the different events, setting up, tearing down, cleaning, and of course
just serving everyone. But she also took on as uh part of just kind of the shuffle of everything uh making sure that uh we were keeping everything stocked and uh ordering those things and communicating of course with our financial department. Um she also does a wonderful job. Huge shout out here. She trains uh a couple of students who are part of certain clubs at Typton Middle School and then whenever she does that those students who are working who are helping out in there uh their clubs get 15% of the profits that evening. So, in fact, our team at concession stand is also uh, you know, fueling some of the work that our our clubs are doing. So, Miss Martha Burr does a wonderful job at that. Uh, Linda Sprinkles in a lot of way is
my right-hand woman. Okay. Um, there I think it was like the second day of school and I turned to her and said, "I just need you to handle the finances of this for me." And goodness gracious, right? Does a phenomenal job making sure that we are on top of everything that we need to be on top of, ensuring that we are uh ticketing appropriately, following internal controls. Uh she also, huge shout out if I didn't say this, I specifically made sure to write it down. She is our ECA transportation coordinator, which is a huge uh time commitment. Uh but essentially, if you're riding a bus and it's not during uh the official school day, uh she's the one who's making it happen for you. So, uh you know, big uh thank you to her for
that work, which is often an unsung sort of thing. Uh Tisha stepped in specifically during this fall season and is essentially our full-time event athletic director. Um, of course, uh, Miss Henry, who I'll get to in just a moment, uh, normally would be able to help out with that a little bit more, but she was too busy making sure that people were bumping, setting, and spiking, uh, up at the high school. And so, uh, Telicia said, "Well, you know, put me in coach." And she was put in. I'm not sure that I heard a single thing that was a negative thing about our events. And that's largely thanks to obviously her efforts. Um, while I'm in front though at the other uh couple members of our uh uh Power Ranger team, um Colin Quinn already,
like I mentioned, shout out this evening for him. He's done a phenomenal job at this point. He's scheduling our events uh for our winter seasons. He's going to be coordinating practices. He's also hiring and training coaches, all of which takes a huge strain off of me. Um honestly, he's a little bit like in a bowling alley, you know, that machine that puts the pins down at the end that you just kind of wait for. He's the one who puts all the pins down and then the pins are all set up and it's all thanks to Colin that that ends up happening which is really phenomenal. Um and then kind of the person who ends up being the glue who connects all together is of course Missy Henry who of course kind of took on the
teams athletic leazison role. She does so many things behind the scenes that honestly a lot of people don't even know. Um physicals making sure that coaches get official communication about stuff. Whenever there's a parent has a question or a concern she's that first contact point. Uh she's phenomenal. And actually the anecdote that I kind of want to end on, she told me that a couple weeks ago um there was a parent who had some stuff that was going on. Emotions can get high around sports for, you know, obviously appropriate reasons. And this parent was communicating with her about just I'm really frustrated about this and frustrated about this. And she turned to the parent after listening to the concerns and echoing them back and talking about some things and she said, you know, at the
end of the day, I'd like to remind you why are we here? And the parent responded. And Miss Henry of course was asking the question for this reason for the kids, right? And that helped the parent put in perspective. At the end of the day, we're just here to put together a program that's going to serve our kids, serve our families, make sure that we're creating a phenomenal program at Typton Middle School. Missy Henry is leading the charge on that, but she's got a team of Power Rangers, Voltron, whatever you want to call it, okay? Uh behind him. And so I want to say thank you to those people. And here's to the winter season coming up. So thank you ladies. Let's see. And I've got Linda. Here's you. Martha, here's your Delicia. There you
go. >> I'm going to be recognizing our Tipton Way team tonight. Um, last year after we did a spring survey with our students, it came out that a lot of our students wanted to be more involved in getting information out, more involved in the kind of information that got out. And I kind of thought about it and I had some specific students in mind that I wanted to try this with. And my ideas were we could bounce ideas off of them. um we could um promote our PBIS system and we could also possibly have a monthly kind of um news show and I bounced out of John let's said let's do this as a pilot program this year. I reached out to um some families over the summer and not only were they excited to
do it, some even offered to come in during the summer. And so we started the beginning of the year and I knew that I had picked trustworthy students, I picked responsible students, I picked energetic students and creative students and I wasn't sure how it was going to go at the beginning of the year. And right away it took off and I can say what they're doing and their um just their energy to do it, the ideas they have, it's just been fantastic. And so we put out our first kind of news um segment um the other day. We learned a lot. Um we did an interview with a new teacher. Um we did some old I grew up with the um the more you know PSAs. We did quite a few of those and um
we did a date line where we looked at some mysteries that were going on in our school and just promoted the great things that not only these students are doing but all students are doing. Um after that first time it showed uh they came to me with a million ideas and we sat down and not only did we look at them we looked at kind of how are we going to do these? What's the message we're trying to get out? What are the resources we have to use? And so really using some problem solving and some critical thinking in doing it. Um, these five have been fantastic and I'm gonna call them up one at a time. And first we have Annie Hair. Annie Hair is not here, but Annie is our student safety um
student school safety specialist. And so she this last time kind of updated some things to remember in order to keep our school safe. Next we have Campbell Gand. I think one thing that you do great is probably keep the other ones um their energy is usually up here and you kind of keep them leveled out. One thing that I said is I needed responsible students to do this and those would be students I could trust to go out and do things for me and one thing the other day is we were talking about possibly doing some filming at the end of the day and you informed me she had school work to do and she couldn't do it and that's the exact kind of person we're looking for as well putting the things that are
important most. But thank you Campbell. And next we have JJ Adams. JJ is one of the first students I thought of um uh when I was trying to put this together and JJ is always cool as a cucumber with what he's doing and he is up for anything and um just all around a great student, trustworthy, I can count on him. I don't think I've ever asked you to do something and you said why am I doing that? Um so he is just fantastic and greatly um appreciative to have you on the team. Thank you JJ. Next we have Evan Hunt. >> Um, Evan's been great. Um, Evan's learned, I think, a little bit about filming, right, Evan? And Absolutely. And so he knows how to hold the camera. How do you hold it? >>
Yes. Yes. Not like Monroe. Um, and he has done just a fantastic job. He came the other day. He had some great ideas and we're working on them, put them in place for October. But I mean, I can't express just the excitement that I was worried I'd have to go drag them out of class to come down and do things and just the energy he's bringing has been absolutely fantastic. So, thank you, Evan. And last, we have Monroe Stewart. Come on up, Monroe. Monroe, we kind of filmed our first segment where Monroe hosted a talk show with one of our new teachers and I can say she did a thousand times better than I could ever dream of doing at that task. Um, she was following up telling the teacher how wonderful it is to
have her at Typton and how, you know, we want to make her feel welcome. Um, Monroe also uh is not what you would say you're not going to be controlling the camera anymore. Okay. So, um but absolutely fantastic, a great sport about everything and once again they came down had great ideas. If you guys have not watched it, um it was fantastic. It was fun and editing it was a blast and they're going to learn more about how to do those things and more about getting information out that the students want to get out and they don't have to hear it from boring adults like John and I. So, thank you very much, Monroe. Thank you guys. All right. For the elementary this month, we'd like to call up Angela Meister, Jessica Higin Bothotham, and
Sarah Kapper. If you guys could come up. So, one of the beliefs we have at uh or that we encourage at TEES is that if there's a need, it's not outside anybody's job responsibility to meet that need. Um over the last couple years, uh these three ladies have um worked hard on beautifying our uh outside landscaping right outside our prek rooms. Um they noticed that there was kind of overgrown, lots of weeds, and uh Jessica, I think, initially went out there, started pulling uh pulling weeds and ended up with a quarter zone shot or something to to that Yeah. to that effect. and she's like, "I'm done with this." So, uh, then that's when Angela and Sarah kind of picked it up and and I've seen them out there working a couple different times on
days that we have off u planting flowers and making it look nice. So, now that we have three prek rooms right there and our families are walking up to those those doors every morning, um, it's a nice uh little uh addition to to the landscape out there. So, thank you ladies for for taking that and and just stepping up without being asked and going above and beyond. I have 100% of my people here. So, I nominated her off. Um, so I'm pretty proud of that. Um, first of all, I would you might have read the paper. You might have heard uh about the accomplishments of our distinguished board president here. Uh most recently he received the gold seal leadership certificate and that's through the Indiana school board association and that's uh for being part of
the presidential leadership seminar uh regional board uh president's roundt and also being involved in the PD conference and we're going to talk about that a little bit later and then also being part of the annual meeting of president's breakfast which is like really early in the morning at the uh school boards association conference. So I I applaud him for attending that because I would have a hard time getting there. Um and you also did also received the outstanding board service uh for uh award for district five which is the Indiana school board association uh district that we are a part of. Uh so I wanted to congratulate him for that. But I also wanted to talk a little bit about the other things that Rob is doing. So Rob is actually presented on behalf of
the school corporation at the AI conference. He also joined uh Scott and I at the uh at the annual meeting for the schoolboard association. We talked about the the great things that are going on with our attendance and the cool things we're doing here at Typton. And uh and just recently he he worked to uh learn everything there is about budget and has a micro credential now in budget. Uh so he's going to do the budget for next year. So, uh, so Scott, I'm I'm making that resolution right now that that Rob's gonna take care of the budget. So, uh, I think it'll be great. 2027 will be awesome. >> But anyway, I want to congratulate Rob and we thank Rob for being a great board president, being a great leader, and he's taken this
responsibility and just run with it. And, uh, this guy knows a lot about everything going on in this in the state. So if you ever want to know about the inner workings of Indiana government, it's all good. So thank you. >> All right. For those of you that were here for blue futures, this is your cue to go ahead and go or you're going to get trapped into those budget conversations. But congratulations to all of our blue future award winners. >> Thank you. I didn't know this was to look at the agenda a little closer before. >> All right. Next item on our agenda is comments from the community. We had no one sign up this evening. Uh so we'll jump right into the consent agenda. And on that we have uh the approval of
the uh agenda, the approval of the minutes uh from the work session on um regular session and executive session on September 29th and our special meeting on the 23rd. Uh we have approval of claims from payroll on September 12th, payroll of September 26 and payroll of October 9th and then the uh AP claims for October of 2025. We have the approval of the personnel report which I will read at the conclusion of this. We had no approvals of field trips in this month and we did have an approval to accept some uh donations um on behalf of T-Mobile and a couple others u that were uh included in your packet. So um with that I would take a motion and a second to approve the consent agenda and then I will read the personnel report.
>> I move to approve the consent agenda. >> Okay. >> All right. I have a motion and a second to approve the consent agenda. All those in favor, please signify by saying I. >> I. >> Any opposed? >> All right, the motion carries. Our personnel report for uh October. Um for certified staff, we have the recommendations for uh Megan Cherin for a temporary third grade teacher. Um in classified staff, we have a medical leave request for James Boss, who's one of our uh corporation bus drivers. We have a reassignment of duties for Heather Goodnight who's moving from uh TMS third shift custodian to the elementary school third shift custodian. Um and then the recommendation for Eli Bogard uh to be the Typton High School athletic uh custodian. On ECA staff, we have the res the
following resignations. Ryan Bergman is the sixth grade boys basketball coach. Gracie Phillips for seventh grade girls basketball coach. Milin Swan for the ninth grade boys basketball coach, Autumn Ringson for the sixth grade girls basketball coach, and Alex Reddd for the assistant swim coach of Typton Middle School. Those were all resignations. Uh, the following are the ECA recommendations for Emily Buyers as the co-sponsor of the National Junior Honor Society at the middle school. Craig Leech for sixth grade boys basketball coach. Sam Phillips for eighth grade boys basketball coach. Miranda Sylvie for the girls uh varsity basketball assistant coach. Carrie Capshaw is a sixth grade girls basketball coach. Uh Bryce Brown, seventh grade girls basketball coach. Olivia Gonzalez uh for the girls varsity softball head coach, Ashley Roberts for the girls varsity assistant softball coach, Corey Fernung
for the eighth grade girls basketball coach, uh Jai Fiper for the assistant swim coach in the middle school, McKenzie Hoover for the varsity assistant swim coach in the high school. transfers uh for the ECA staff would be Don Mackes transferring from the middle school basketball to assume the role of the ninth grade boys basketball coach for the 2526 season. That is our personnel. Boy, the room emptied out. Um the that is our personnel report for uh October. I just noticed um we don't have a seven seventh grade boys basketball and I think we do have it. I think Ryan >> I just not that wasn't in there. >> I also want to highlight that Colin wrote all of his recommendations. I thought that was cool. >> All right. Um so um next on our agenda
is the uh superintendent report. So Dr. Glaze, the floor is yours. >> All right. Awesome. Uh and just to kind of give some updates here on our re-rofing project. Hopefully you're seeing that there are things moving forward with that project. Um I did send in the weekly update that we are not uh at the Barney school, so we are not purple. Um so we will be replacing some of the metal that was installed incorrectly. And uh so we'll all be uh tip and blue here in a couple of weeks. So uh that is going well. Um they the infer roof is complete except for the metal around the around the edges and also the gutters and down spouts. So those will be um that will be taken care of here in the next few weeks.
Uh they started to work on the academic wing and uh luckily with them not having to do a complete tear off all the buildings can be occupied while we're doing this. Um I'm not going to's occasional boom. Uh but for the most part, it's been a pretty been a pretty good experience for everybody. Um so we are still ahead of schedule, which is where we want to be. Um the one blessing of having a pretty dry fall is we've been able to get a lot of project done. Uh chiller install is going to start on uh I believe Tuesday. Um they've got to pour some concrete and demo the old chiller and all that. So uh there'll be lots of things happening here next week over fall break. Got that chiller get installed. Want to
congratulate our our boys soccer team. Uh great game on Friday. Terrific crowd on a Friday and or on Friday on Saturday. Uh so just congratulations to them and along with what Rob said, we're we're always thrilled to another sectional championship. So, congratulations. >> When do they play again? >> They play on Wednesday. >> Yes, they play Christian as well. Yeah. And it's there, right? >> I also wanted to make sure we uh we acknowledge Co. Uh so he is a sectional champion um in in individual sport. Uh oftent times we forget about these individual sports kind of like along with anybody to Congratulate the sectional championship. That's that's excellent. Congratulations to um upcoming events. Of course, we have Paul rolling around here. And oh, don't anyone forget daylight savings time. Um and then we will
plan to have a tenative agreement. We'll kind of be in touch on that. uh if we can have I realize it's probably going to be relatively short notice whenever get to that point. So as long as we have a quorum we'll be fine. Uh so uh essentially what we have to do is we have to have our tenative agreement meeting 72 hours before any kind of a vote to ratify a contract. Um so it could be as late as 72 hours before the November meeting. It could be earlier depending on how negotiations go. Uh, but I kind of want to just put that on your radar. Uh, and we'll keep you posted and try to figure out a time where we can have that that um what we're looking at on our upcoming agendas again
hoping to approve that collective bargaining agreement for 5.6. Um, we may be looking at some additional appropriation resolutions and education and operations. We we kind of we brought this up last year about this time because we're getting to the point where our expenditures are getting near the end of the year. We will just keep an eye on it. We'll have more information on November. What we don't want to do is we don't want to go over the appropriation because that's bad and the DJ gets mad at us and state board mad at us. So we want to make sure that we don't do that. Uh for the most part though keeps a really to really tight look an eye on on all of those incumbances and dollars that are so we'll know a little bit
more in November. I just want to put that out and also you've missed having some really good data conversation from Mr. Gorski. So we're going to talk about attendance and we're going to talk about some iLearn data uh coming up in November. And uh so always always to know where we're standing. Um I know preliminary feeling on attendance is really good. So I think that everybody will be uh everybody will be very happy to hear how attendance go. >> And that's it. >> Thank you. I would share that um during our time at speaking on attendance with ISBA, the amount of school corporations that came up to us after that presentation and it was really a privilege to be able to brag on uh Mr. Leech, Mr. fly day, the middle school, the elementary school,
everybody who um picks up a phone and calls a family member in our community and asks about a student because we care about the student. And that was the number one thing that people took away from our presentation was that we had building administrators who would pick up a phone and call and say, "We noticed so and so isn't here. Is everything okay? What can we do to help?" And that was one of the core differentiators between an email blast or a text message. So it was great to brag on you guys um and gals for um for the period of time we were up there and and it is making a difference that that uh human touch is really you'll see in our data a big element. So thank you for for doing that.
I know that's not high on everybody's list to do every day but it does make a difference. So yeah. Yep. All right. Uh next was um in our packets was the departmental report from uh Mr. Jorski uh from Adam uh from Stephen and again from Colin. I do want to thank Colin he's not here but it is nice to get that update and kind of see in one place all the things that are going on and um so I don't forget to go to the soccer game on Saturday and things like that. So it's good to know. U did we have any questions or comments for anybody on the uh departmental reports question? Okay. Well, then right moving right along, Brooke, it is uh on to the financial report. >> Thank you. Um in the
education fund, um revenue slightly exceeded expenses by just around $13,210. We ended the month with $933,635. For operations, we did make a transfer of $100,000 from education to operations and expenses exceeded revenue by quite a bit, 339,000. Um, we did finish the month with $56,440. Um, the rainy day fund balance came in just over 1.5 million at month end, which will reimburse from the GEO bond to get that back up to where it needs to be. And debt service um remained at a,58,2619. interest revenue was $17,282 for the month. And then um we have a meeting scheduled with First Farmers on October 30th to discuss our interest arrangement that expires on November 1st. Sorry. >> You anticipate any change to that agreement? >> I mean, they're still going to do it, but the rate might
be different because Oh, that wasn't any other questions for Brooke. All right. Uh, moving on to old business. Um, in your packet is batch seven of the updated CCHA board policy forms and administrative guidelines for second reading. Um, if no changes are needed, um, I need a motion to adopt batch seven of the CCHA board policy, administrative guidelines, and forms and the retirement of the NEOLA policies listed, uh, at the bottom in in your packet. >> I move to approve batch number seven. >> Second. >> All right. I have a motion and a second to approve batch seven. Are there any questions or further comment? Right. All those in favor of approving batch seven, please signify by saying I. >> I. >> Any opposed? >> Motion carries. >> Um, new business. We have the uh
adoption of our 2026 budget, capital projects plan, and bus replacement plan. Um, these three things were presented last month during our work session and our public hearing. Um after these plans um and the proposed 2026 budget are adopted, the budget forms will be submitted to the uh Indiana Department of Local Government Finance uh via the gateway portal along with all the accompanying resolutions. Um then around December January, the DGF will provide our 1782 notice that will provide the approved tax levies for the operation and debt service funds. So, I need a motion and a second to adopt the 2026 budget, capital projects plan, and bus replacement plan. >> I move to adopt the 2026 budget, capital projects plan, and bus replacement. >> Second. >> Thank you. I have a motion and a second um to
approve the uh the budget. Any questions or further comments? >> All right. All those in favor of uh the approving the adoption of the 2026 budget capital projects plan and bus replacement plan, please signify by saying I. I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. Budget is adopted. Um and then we have in our packet uh is a letter of retirement from Superintendent Dr. Ryan Glaze effective May 29th, 2026. Uh Dr. Mr. Glaze has served as our superintendent here at TCSC for the last six years. And I would ask for a motion and a second to approve uh the letter of retirement from Dr. Glaze. >> Yeah, I'm just >> I move to approve the retirement uh letter that's given to us by Dr. Glaze. I have a motion and a second to approve the retirement of
the superintendent. Uh any further comments or questions regarding that. All right. All those in favor of approving the retirement of the superintendent, please signify by saying I. >> I. >> Any opposed? >> Are retired. >> All right. And then uh the recommendation for uh assistant superintendent. Also in our packet is a recommendation to hire Dr. Glaze as our assistant superintendent on a one-year contract starting July 1st, 2026. Now, a complete list of all the duties and job expectations are included in your packet. And they these all fall within the transition plan that we all discussed in May of 2025. Uh the transition plan is a cost savings to the corporation of over $52,000 and it is recommended that the board approve um the plan as as written. And so I would be um looking for
a motion to uh recommend Dr. Glaze for the assistant superintendent role. >> I move to approve the recommendation for the assistant superintendent of Dr. Glaze for the 2020. >> Second. >> All right. I have a motion and a second to recommend for assistant superintendent. Any questions or further comments? >> I have a question. What are you going to do in June? There's a uh you haven't been >> gone 30 days. >> He's working on his golf game. >> Yeah. >> Oh, that's like a legal illegal thing. >> Yeah. >> He's going to join the >> He's looking for a new golfer. >> He's going to be second in the Elks >> competitor. >> Yeah. That won't strain the working relationship. >> Reigning champions. >> We all know we drive by your house. We see it.
So, all right. Um, so I lost my way, but I think we had a we had a recommendation to approve. All those in favor, please signify by saying I. >> I. >> Any opposed? >> Welcome back to the team. All right. >> So, and then uh there's no um uh action on the next item, but it is the first reading of batch 8 of the CCHA board policies and administrative guidelines and forms. Uh within that packet, you'll see the adjunct teachers D600. So, please continue to uh dialogue with um uh the administration on making sure we get that um settled and we get that right. Um but also included in that packet are internal controls, use of credit cards, collection and forgiveness of debt, unpaid meal policy, investment income, time and effort, debt management, cash
balance and liquidity, and criminal organization activity. Um and so uh those will be up for uh second reading and approval in our November uh meeting. Other matters to come before the board. Uh we have the October 27th uh 2025 expense reduction review committee. I want to thank everybody who's taking part of that. Um it is very very helpful and that uh that meeting will be October 27th and then um the 20th through the 24th is fall break. Again, the 27th is the expense reduction review committee at 4 pm. November 2nd, we we welcome in daylight savings time and uh November 11th is our staff professional development day. I would again encourage you as a board if you are in town that day to look at Mr. Jorski's email and come in and at least sit
through one of those. Um they're really really good to see what our teachers are learning and how they're sharing with each other. Um and then we'll see each other again that evening for the November uh monthly board meeting. So any other matters before the board. All right. I would look for a motion and a second to adjurnn. >> I move to the committee. >> Motion and a second. All those in favor of adjournment, please signify by saying I. I. >> The opposed. We are adjourned. Thank you.
