I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Okay. Um, I guess before we get started, we do have one introduction. Things look a little bit different up here. Um, Michelle Hill has stepped down from the Indiana board. Um, she's still going to serve on the Ohio board. Um, so we have a new member on the Indiana board. Mr. Cyber, would you like to stand up and introduce yourself? >> John Cyber. Live there in College Corner. I've been on the College Corner Ohio board for 30 years this year. So, I'm filling in for Michelle. So, thank you very much. >> Again, just for clarification, Ohio gets they get elected in Ohio and then

Ohio appoints two members to our board. Um, so that's why it's a sudden change and you really don't see anything about it in the news. So that's the way it works in the short story. So moving on to then uh agenda. The only item we're adding is item 14 and that is approval of the cost of overtime for the K9 that serves here uh with our SRO. I'll entertain a motion for the movement to the agenda. >> So move. >> Susan with a motion. >> Second. >> With a second. Any questions or discussion? All those in favor? >> All those opposed? Okay, moving on to building updates. We'll start with the middle school. Um, our eighth grade enrollment is 87. Ninth or seventh grade is 96, sixth grade is 100. That is 283 right now.

It's three less than all classes at this time. We are wrapping up our checkpoint two for iLearn. Um and then we have asked our teachers right now to set goals for the checkpoint 3 and communicate those goals with us and the students. So that would what that looks like is like an art teacher would take a goal from standard from checkpoint 3 and make that a goal in their classroom to just make sure it's um more communication with the students so that they are um encouraged to do their best on our next checkpoint. Um for scheduling a big one is we've been working really hard to try to um go away from block. And so that means if you're not familiar with what block is, that's four periods a day. That's about um 80 so

minutes. And we're trying to get back to a schedule where they would go to classes, see math class, English, and social studies and science every day. Um we're working with the high school. It's difficult to make that work. Um so we're very thankful that the high school is willing to work with us to try to make that work. And Mr. Jones is also working a lot with us. So, we've got a few ideas and we're still trying to push through those. Uh, we've been working, Mr. Reer and I recently went through some of the handbook and we'll continue going through that. Um, and then our most recent goat was Miss Carter. She is, she was given the goat from Bev, who is also a goat. She um, for sure she's everybody knows that. Um, but

Anita has been with us forever and she is an outstanding teacher who really does think outside the box like this says, but um, she goes above and beyond. Um, she's also taken on a lot of leadership roles this year, which is really important to, you know, it's reflected in her classroom also. And then you can see we are always active with students. Okay. Uh, high school. >> First, let me say welcome, John. Good to see you here. Our uh enrollment is holding steady several months in a row now. So, very excited about that. I did just put a few pictures in uh and we'll give you an update on a few things going on. There's a picture several pictures of our students against destructive decisions. That's the SAD group and uh in January they made

cards for children in the hospital. Uh I would like to say thank you to our custodians and maintenance staff. If you didn't get a chance to come to this building during the week, we weren't really in school for four days. It was ready on Tuesday. It may have been ready on Monday. I didn't come on Monday because the Bay County was under under the red and I couldn't travel. But when I got here Tuesday morning, sidewalks were cleared, parking lots were cleared. Um they did an amazing job and even though city roads and county roads wouldn't pro uh wouldn't allow us to come to school and send the kids, we were ready. So, I would like to say thanks to those guys. um had some great things happen in the last couple of weeks with

a couple of our athletes and uh teams. Noah Reffett, as you know, um took first place in the sectional in wrestling. He's our only wrestler that advanced and then this past weekend he was wrestling at Richmond and took third place. So, he gets to go on to the semi stage. And uh congratulations to Noah. As you also know, our girls basketball team won their sectional. Has been a while since we won a sectional. But I'd also like to point out that the band has been supporting our football team and our both of our basketball teams all year. They sound great. So, there's a picture of the band in there. Very proud of them. Our cheerleaders who are also a part of our winning efforts. Pictures of them. And then there's a couple pictures of our

elementary girls who attended the cheerleading camp and that was a lot of fun to watch them cheer the other night. There's some academic team results there for February. They're still in season. They'll have some more. Uh then there's the picture of the girls at the sectional at Hagerstown. And then there's the home events coming up. Uh, I will tell you. I'm not supposed to tell you, but I think Brian's working on changing the boys basketball game that's supposed to be at home on Saturday. He hasn't made that definite. So, I will definitely be trying to push that to a date next week so that we won't have to be in several different places and can devote our uh fans and and efforts to the girls in their sectional game or their regional game. I'm sorry.

Any questions? Thank you. Yes. Good evening. Our enrollment stayed exactly the same as last month at 332. We have some we're starting testing season, so that's a lot of the upcoming events. We also have our kids heart challenge at the end of the month that we're looking forward to. Students of the month are listed there for courage and common sense. Um the next three pages show we just finished I learn checkpoint 2 testing. So it breaks down each grade level and shows like the state average compared to our school average. Um checkpoint one and checkpoint two are different standards. So all three checkpoints they'll test on different standards throughout that grade level and then when we get to the summitive that kind of tests the whole year. So apples and oranges when you're looking at

I the checkpoint one data compared to two. So we will analyze that this month in our PLC's with the teachers and kind of make goals for how to improve the data for these standards as well as looking at the standards that are going to be taught and tested. later on in the year. Do you have any questions about the data? And then we just have some fun things that happened around the um building this last month. We have a great sunshine committee and they roll out a cart every few weeks. Um this last week since it was all about our snow days, they um passed out hot chocolate and donuts and Mrs. Marie dressed as a snowman while playing great music before the kids came in. We um were all about the Hooers and their

big game and the school um all the kids in the school created goals and they put them on t-shirts and we displayed those. Our kindergarteners made little football players and we're practicing writing their sentences. We celebrated the 100th day of school, but in order to do that, our um kindergarteners had to spend a day saving zero the hero. Um so they did all kinds of activities counting to 100 doing different things with one to 100. Um had lots of great volunteers that came in and helped out with stations and they had a really good time and they saved him at the end of the day and they were able to celebrate the 100th day. I said earlier our h heart our kids heart challenge is at the end of the month. We kicked that off

and um Mrs. Treadway told us on Friday that we've already raised $11,993. So they're almost to their goal of 12,000 and I'm sure they've probably exceeded it by this point. So I think she said the largest one we had was 14,000. So our goal is to surpass that this year. So it's been a a good event. questions. >> Corner. >> Good evening. Enrollment is the same as last month, so that's positive. Um, all of our upcoming events are surrounding the I read and testing season, so pray for us. Um, those are our character trait winners for the month of January there. We just celebrated them at the pep rally on Friday. Um, our checkpoint data is in. We did do some makeups today and finishing up. So, this isn't completely uh complete, but I just

want you to take a look at the state versus the school or the corporation. Um, I was really I mean, checkpoint one we weren't so impressed with, but checkpoint two I felt like our students and staff really showed up. So, um, we're proud of that. You take a look. My one I want you to take a look at is third. Look at uh the schools 49% in the blue. That's that's intense for math. We really really proud of that. So, there's lots of other things to be proud of, but I just wanted to point that out um this evening. Um if you look at our pictures, um I had students submit what they were doing on their snow day. So, I made videos and we got to at least enjoy uh each other through that

way. So, we submitted snow day pics and uh we submitted chore pics. So, you could see some of our kids helping. Um and then reading pictures. they were reading at home. So, there's a lot of those kind of pictures. And we also celebrated the 100th day of school and we did 80s day um because there were 80 days left. So, we had some fun with that. questions about Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Moving on to accept donations. We have a total amount of $650 with a motion. >> Second. >> Jerry with a second. Any questions or discussion? All those in favor? >> I. >> All those opposed. >> Moving on to consent agenda. We have a claims docket of 1,510,6982 26. There's a lot of names to review there. and couple out of state

trips. I'll entertain a motion. So move >> second. >> Daryl with a motion. Susan with a second. Any questions or discussion? All those in favor? >> I. >> All those opposed? One abstain. 501. Moving on to old business. College corner board updates. >> Okay, I'm going to do it today. It was a very basic meeting. Not a lot going on. Uh the one thing that will happen this week for next week, uh a letter, this is for Ohio kids only, grades 7 through 11. Um a letter will go out to them. uh advising them about the college credits for Ohio and um so it has to be sent out by March 1st. The students have to fill it out and return it by April 1st if they're interested. So if you know any Ohio kids

between 7 and 11 um they will if anybody is interested if we get any meetings back then there's a personal meeting with that with whoever replies to the letter. So, especially 10th and 11th year kids, this is it's a really good deal. They can take classes at my end and get credit for them now and the state of Ohio pays for it. So, it's a really good deal. So, other than that, it was all general school board stuff. All right, moving on to new business. Recommendation to approve year-end transfers. >> This is what >> this is just something that we do every year. So move. >> Second. >> Is this the funding that we're moving? >> No. >> Mitch motions. >> So I have Susan with a motion. Daryl with a second. Any other questions

or discussion? >> Okay. All those in favor? >> I. >> All those opposed? Six. Seven. Moving on to item 10, 2026 season lawn care contract. And you have a recommendation. Computer all of a sudden doesn't here. I got it. Now it's trying to open. Does everyone have the recommendation in front of them from uh Jeff >> Ciqua? Go ahead and read it. >> Okay. This is to the school board. I would like to recommend recommend that we continue to use Johnson's Lawn Care for the 2026 mowing season. Over the last 12 years or so, we have developed a great relationship with them, and they go over and beyond their duties. Not only do they do a great job of keeping up on our landscape, but they also help us when we are in a pinch

with plowing and other miscellaneous items. I hope that you will consider my recommendation for the 2026 ming season. And then the other bits are attached and then each bid is per mowing section. So essentially each week >> is it attached somewhere? >> It should be attached to the lawn care contract. Should have had several >> go on down past the recommendation. You have the camera. >> Yeah. >> And then just over here and trying to scroll down. >> Okay. >> Thank you. Perfect. Okay. Based off that recommendation and looking at the other, I'll entertain a motion for the 2026 lawn care contract. And you make a motion for >> recommendation Johnson. >> Okay. >> So, a motion by Jerry, second by Drew. Any other questions or discussion? And that's to approve Johnson Lawn Care Service.

Any other questions or discussion? All those in favor? I. >> All those opposed? Moving on to item 11, 2026, season herbicide application. And same thing, there is a recommendation in there from Mr. Ciqua. I will read it and it's to the board. I would like to recommend that we use Hunley lawn care in landscape for our fertilizer and herbicide treatments this year on all of the playing fields and practice field. I look forward to working with Adam Hunley as we have in the past and there's also all the bids that we received attached. There we go. I'll entertain a motion. So moved. >> Is that to go with the recommendation from Mr. Cir or Hunley? >> Yes. >> Have a motion by Susan. >> Second by Mallerie. Any questions or discussion? All those in favor?

>> I. >> All those opposed. Any abstain? Okay. Moving on to item 12. Approval to void checks that are over two years old. >> So move. >> Second. >> Motion by Daryl, second by Drew. Any questions or discussion? All those in favor? >> I. >> Those opposed? >> On to item 13. Recommendation to approve the 26 27 school calendar. Again, we have there should be three options listed under option A, option B, option C. Which one's being recommended? Yeah, >> we are recommending option A with some changes and that's the uh student start the teacher start will be on August 3rd, student start be August 5th. We um we had nine nine teachers, six administrators that we went through and uh to pull apart all of the different options and uh I mean the the

uh 10day late start we just couldn't get it to work out. I mean looks wonderful on paper but um first semester been 78 days versus 102 for second semester. And uh one of the questions was well can we can we go into January to finish off first semester and unfortunately with high school classes dual credit classes things like that you got to kind of be on the same schedule like the uh colleges to um get things to attend and so on. So um but we then looked at option uh C which was adding five days to the start was um the 10th August 10th for teachers. Um the only issues I mean that the balance is the u you know 85 95 days for a semester second semester but also uh you know we lost

a couple days of winter break. Um there's just you know some other things that just we just didn't work out the way the the days fell. Uh they kind of as committee thought that that first option of the traditional start on August 5th for students is was the best option. So, can I ask questions? Yes, >> please. >> Do you have a problem with that? Is the 85.95 the deal or is 2 days of Christmas break that you then don't have to go in August the big deal? >> I think I mean there was there was a bunch of things there. I mean, it wasn't just that, but >> I'm only asking because I did my personal survey to teachers and mine came up C strong >> with uh five day with a start a

week later, miss a couple days of the Christmas break. With Christmas being on Friday, still get to go through the new year, you finish by Memorial Day still and you got your five snow days built in. I'm just trying to understand why cuz we've been trying to August 3rd is crazy to me to start. It is >> and it's still close enough to your testing that your kids I also have heard that once you do testing then it's kind of what do we do now? Well, >> no, we're good. We're constantly pushing for the, you know, excellence in the in the classroom. So, it's a testing. We're just and we're looking towards next year, >> right? But, you know, an argument about Kurt, but anyway, but that's still close enough to that testing that I

don't think you have to go a long time after your testing's done. I'm just wondering why they wouldn't want to do the option C. Well, I and all I can I mean I can speak on behalf of the the nine members that the teachers that the effective members that were on the board I'm sorry on the committee and the six uh administrators. So, I can't speak to I mean, everybody's got my email that if they wanted to say, "Hey, this is what I thought, but we kind of let the union uh the association know, hey, this is who's on there. Please, if the teachers have any suggestions, let one of these individuals know or let the principles know and notes we had. >> Madam, am I allowed to ask questions? >> Did you guys know

the schedules? Or were you on the committee? >> No. No. >> Did you know these three different schedules? >> I had heard about three different schedules, >> right? >> But didn't attend. And to be honest, I didn't volunteer to attend. >> Right. But I would think I'm just speaking I don't know where the union leader is, but I would hope that you would get input from more than nine teachers and the school system has got as many as we >> don't know. I've been I've always been adamant I don't I don't like starting the first week of August. >> What's the later start date impact athletic eligibility? What what kind of impact we talk? Well, if I mean, if you go to that second week, um you're going to run into um you know, the

start of the fall sports, uh which if you're gonna have people that are still on vacation, whatnot, they won't get the 10 days in the the 10 practice days in. So, this guy, we got we get them in in town. We get them in their 10 days and then they can start with fall sports, >> right? Okay. When I was in high school, we changed my high school. We changed my vacation because I knew I had to go to football practice starting August whether we were in school or not. >> Is there a certain date you can start practices I assume? >> Yeah, it has nothing to do with school. >> And the plus five snow days are just we have them hanging out there. Is that that just that was just that just the

plus five was just where we we moved the start date. >> Okay. >> Just added. Yeah. >> Okay. So, if there are snow days, it basically puts us into June. Well, if Yeah, if we don't have enough makeup days, >> the last day is the 28th, >> right? Because we still have on that we still have the >> last student days 27th, >> January 18th, >> um, February 15th, and March 29th as those as makeup days. >> I know >> kids don't catch a rash going to school in June. for the >> I feel like this the option C looks like it checks a lot of boxes >> and I don't know administrators back there I'm assuming what if we had six administrators I'm more than willing to listen to your I I just I

don't understand why we want to go on August 3rd I mean you that's the hottest month of the year and we're going to go right off the bat and I know we've done it for years I don't understand it for years Uh, I mean the main thing is I think the option A always aligns with the career center. That aligns the closest with the career center and that's why it always gets what's that? >> That's odd. A does. >> Yes, >> A. And that's why it's that's why it's bumped up in the past, >> right? And we have how many people out of our school system that goes? >> Right. >> At the high school. >> Well, this still says it. >> We offer trans. >> Option C still follows. It says follows traditional calendar

in alignment with Fed >> is what it says >> on their brakes. >> Okay. >> I mean, I'm fine with going with the recommendation this year, but I I feel like I I don't see any big flaws on this. >> If I'm the only one, I'll let it go. But I know you guys have >> I agree. >> We said that last year, Drew. Well, we'll do it this year, but next year we'll look at it. I've been on here two years, and that every year Yeah. We'll look at it next year. It's brought up every year. I mean that it's just too early. >> When when does the career center actually start? We know a date because I don't see I see the notes but I don't see any actual date. Daryl, she's trying

to get your attention. >> Yeah. So, you got one student would be affected. >> So, is that what you said? >> 71 this year. transportation and they're all juniors and seniors. Maybe not all have >> transportation, >> but if they want to ride from here to there, we provide that transportation. So, um, August, they they start in August. Uh, first student day is the 5th of August. >> That's the technical school. >> What's that? >> The career. vocational. >> Yeah. >> What's the makeup of your committee? I mean, how many teachers from >> uh nine nine teachers uh from all the different I mean from different buildings? >> You don't have school that >> you don't have to break down how many high school teachers. How many middle school? How many elementary >> two from

the high school? teachers in high school. >> So, three elementary, >> three elementary and middle school, two middle school. >> Seven. >> Who we missing? >> Well, did three come from college corner and how many from No, between the two of you there's three. >> You guys have anything to say? I mean, I'm I'm all ears. I'm just trying to figure out why we have to go to school the first day of August. It's what the committee voted for. I mean, there really wasn't >> Right. But I normally like when someone says, "This is why we recommend it. This is why we recommend it." And it was just looking for input. >> Well, I think one that was suggested keeps the semester's balanced better than any others. You don't have to provide transportation to 70

to 80 career center students a week in advance. And then what do you do with those kids at the end of the year when they've already gone to school their legal 180 days? Do they have to come to high school for half day? Those are things we'd have to discuss. Um we have great air for not an issue. It's going to be an issue in September as well. Who knows what our climate's doing now. It's uh it's strange, but that's that's why I I like staying on the same calendar that career center uses. If they decide to move back, then we can move back. That's that's my opinion. >> It's always been always been a controversy every year. Yeah. >> All right. How many students do we have in the school system? >> 176. >>

And we make a decision on 71 every year. I don't think that's even my point. I think it's just too early one. And then on the other side, it's like those kids are going to get provided transportation, >> right? >> And man, that's a gets towards spring, that's half a day off, only half a day of school. I will say those kids who we are providing transportation to, if we would go later, we we might also worry about some of them getting here so they can get on our transportation because I doubt if we're running buses, picking them up at their homes, the juniors and seniors. instead of going to the career center, which careers, that's part of the first part of your career. Be on time, be responsible. In the meantime, we do have

a recommendation from the committee for option A. So, I will entertain a motion. And now we can have a disc. If you get the motion, then we can have discussion. >> We have as much discussion as you want, Darl. >> I'll make the motion so we can discuss. >> I'll second. >> Put me in your favor. >> No. Susan, your motion. Drew with a second for option A. >> Which one should >> A Susan? >> Right. That was the recommendation, right? >> Right now. >> All right. Any other questions or discussion? I agree that every year it's >> we go to the same discussion. It seems like the career center that moves up, we're always in line with the career center >> and we've offered to meet with them at least have one representative from

our board and whoever goes over there, they were all in favor of it. Always got no, we're not going to do it. We're not leaving. Why? I don't know. >> But I do feel like the career center in the last 20 years has kept moving it up, moving it up, moving it up. >> I think the whole state has. >> It's not just right here. It's the whole state. >> Most of those that are moving them up are going almost through a full calendar year kind of thing. They're doing they're going more in the summer and more breaks and things like that. We're kind of a hybrid of go early, but yes, still get your summer. >> And if you're on any statewide schedule, I don't it doesn't have to be school or anything like

that. You I think it you drop back a day for every year and then seven year you jump seven seven days, but this doesn't seem like it jumps seven days, >> right? Well, if you look at the difference between A and C, you're either getting out the 21st or the 26. You're just robbing five days in the end of the year. But you know what I'm saying, >> right? You're just starting a little later, finishing a little later, but you're still done by Memorial Day. I mean, the kids, even if we have a snow day, they still would be that Friday and done Memorial Day if you had multiple snow days because we have three, some of them built in. If you took a couple days in December in that week where they're getting off

the 21st, which is a working mother's nightmare, um if they went to school the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd, you could take that off of August and still keep your days, >> two days, >> still get out time, >> but that would that be a week then for Christmas break or winter break? Uh well they would they would go on break on Thursday. They had have Thursday Friday the whole following week >> seven >> and come back >> on well if it's up to me they come back on the fourth but doesn't say >> they do the fourth >> teachers come. Oh no. For teachers come back and then >> it's coming >> back on the 5th. >> Is there always a teacher work day? I don't feel like there was this year. >> Well, we

moved teacher work day because uh it was originally um on the 18th on that first >> um option. >> Okay. option A and then uh we move that then from there to the fourth right before we come back the students come back um in the teacher contract they get four work days a year I don't want it to feel like I understand all the discussion I don't want it to feel like we're taking anything away from the calendar committee and their decision. Um the only question I would have for maybe teachers and staff would be do you feel like your opinion is being heard? I know you said you didn't >> I didn't to be on the committee >> but do you feel like if they were to ask like >> did you get input?

I if they were to ask I I am certain they would entertain whatever concern or suggestion but I think the board's captured the essence of what's happened over the years. We have been following the career center schedule and um Darl what you said I've been at these board meetings enough times I've heard the conversation I've heard you initiate let's meet with those decision makers at Whitewater Career Center. So, >> we've made the attempt a couple different times for that. >> I stored to make the only thing keeping them from starting in July is the Faget County Fair. >> That's a fact. Here's where I hear from teachers is these even if you have a committee or whatever. For example, I just asked the two teachers that were here, did you even see these options? I

can tell you for a fact my son didn't see these options. I showed them to him once I got the packet. Um just we're I'd love to see what the what the school would have at least give them a chance to say this is what we would prefer. >> Well, I kind of I mean that that was our our intent to um because I and I I have the committee right here and that my intent was that hopefully those teachers would go back and share with their staff. I understand. I would agree with you. >> You know, we had a mixture from each building, right? You go back. So, I mean, you know, the fact I mean, that's kind of disappointing that that didn't happen. There was a communication gap there. Um, which and you

know, I wasn't here last year for the discussion. Um, but I've already told that, you know, I told the group, I said, "We're going to start on the, you know, the 27th 28th here pretty quickly so we can get that ahead." And um you know and because right now I feel I feel like we're kind of I mean we are behind a month more or less because I looked at the board minutes from last year and it was January had gotten approved. So I'm like we're now in February and it's like now we're starting to have the discussion. So I you know it's kind of been I've been feeling like I'm playing catchup. I'm trying to get a lot. >> No I understand and you have been >> but I will also tell you we

felt that it was pushed down awfully early last year and it was same thing. We didn't think there was any input. It was just here it is bam bam and it was voted and we kind of said let's slow our roll a little bit. Well, and I think and and hearing what you're saying, I mean, and we can I mean, when we look at 2728, it would uh not be that hard to put it into a I mean, because I got I got Lisa who's probably the best secretary I've ever had is going to be able to, you know, put this into a Google, you know, form that we can put it out to everybody and say, "Hey, and Grant, this is your committee members, but here's thoughts on that that we can we can

put the options on and move. it can be done relatively quickly and you can gather all of our data for us and put it in graphs and say this is x amount of people answered. Um you know because I mean unfortunately I mean um I I like I said we had hoped to get more communication to our teachers from our teachers but that that fell short it looks like. >> Maybe I'm not used to it. >> Not used to it. >> Not used to what? >> Input. >> Oh well >> maybe that's it. No, I'm just guessing. >> They have a Google form last year where everybody gave their opinion. We did that last year. >> How' that work out? >> And we still landed on the same >> same place. >> So, yeah. So,

I don't know if I guess there's not a perfect solution to it. We're just trying to do what's best for our students and families and and >> you can work on getting a meeting with FA King. >> I will work on that. But I thought even I don't I mean Susan in two minutes came up. Let's go Monday, Tuesday, have a teacher day on Wednesday, make them come back on Monday. There's three days there. I don't know why we still need a Monday after Easter when you've had the full week before Easter. Um that you could get it backed up a little bit and so you weren't going. But I will also know just for you elementary principles, my wife informs me don't ever start kids on a Monday, the first week of school. So

I understand and appreciate that that it's every day week, first week. So I will tell you I'm aware of that. But I don't care. >> I think it's crazy that we started. >> We appreciate the input. Okay. And I know we're running late, but I would love to see a poll that if you handed these three out or even another option with you take a couple days in December, do your teacher day that 23rd, take it away from the fourth, make the kids come back the fourth, get rid of the Monday after the thing. You've got almost five days right there. Or add one more day to the end of May. That's your Monday or Tuesday and you backed it up a week. So, can I safely say the 10day late start is off the

table? >> Yeah, I didn't think I >> just want to make sure. >> Okay. >> At least I'm just speaking for me. I don't But I think you're right. That the differences in the semester there I think were significant. I do have a motion by Susan, second by Drew for option A that the committee recommended. So at this point I will entertain a all those in favor. >> Say I say do we need to do a show of hands? All those in favor? All those opposed. >> Still can't. >> Is that Is that a John? Was that a opposed? >> Yes. Yes. >> Okay. So, that motion does not carry. >> So, let me ask you this, Steve. Are you ready for us to look at C or do you want some time to look

at it and come back next month? >> You know what? Um, I I with the group is I I'd like to get back and what I'd like to do is get an email out tonight before I go home to the calendar committee and get back together, but we've got to get more input from teachers um the rest of the teachers. >> Yep. >> So, and find out because >> is this how does this affect us right now though? >> Well, I mean >> because like you said, we approved it in January last year. Here we are in February. So far, no approval. >> Yeah. I mean, I would say that it comes back in March and but I know at that point people are already planning vacations, whatnot. Um, >> well, I guarantee no one's

planning a vacation in August. >> Spring break and fall break aren't going to change. Right. That's the only two I really right. So if we can make a motion table until March, we can revisit this and I will have we can get maybe a breakdown. Lisa can help me put it out on like a Google and then get input. >> I'll help you. I'll spread the word if anyone should be coming. >> I'd like to make another motion for either one of the calendars. I'll entertain that. However, if not, I'll entertain. What's the possibility if if option C did pass of of working with because we have in the past made some changes after we little individual days or have you have to on snow days. So what do you do then? >> So we

we have two options right now. either entertain a motion for another calendar or entertain a motion to table this until next month. >> I don't think there's much effective if we decide till next month to say this is to vote on next month. You tell me differently, but if it's only the vacations that people can't book in August or >> I just don't want to any committee moving forward. I don't want to waste trust in committees saying all right the committee brought us this. They also brought options though to vote on like something >> but their recommendation was for option A. I don't want to lose trust in the staff the the committees that work hard on this stuff. um >> could they're devoting their time and effort >> their input >> if there's another

reason besides the career center which is what I'm mainly hearing and to pull other teachers like could that committee >> well that's where like I said that's where I kind of disappointed in hearing our two teachers that didn't really hear about it >> a third teacher with Jordan because that's kind of the goal of the committee was you guys come up with it, we take it back to the buildings, then it comes back and and we give input at the meetings and I don't it does not appear that that happened. I'm not saying it didn't happen, just doesn't appear right now that that happened. >> Yep. >> So, um and like I said, the only thing I had from athletics was I know Mr. overhaul was very worried about the five day the the um

the not starting on that early one for that 10 days where those athletes need to get those 10day practices in. So, I know that was that was a concern on his part, but that was a conversation he and I had that if we if we start on the uh what the going to the uh 12th on this day uh first student day the 12th, he was worried about students not having their everything ready to go on final forms, their physicals, all that stuff because they're not going to be thinking about it. So, >> and I don't mean to be a stickler, but I'm telling you this was the most complaints I got from teachers as a board member last year and I stuck up for administration. I said, "Listen, I know something went out and

there was an email that went out. That's why I asked whether there was communication this year or not because I and then I had to fall and say, listen, I was told I was showed the email that it went out." Now, it went out a year before like the fall of 24 deciding 2526 calendar, but it still went out, >> right? >> Um, and so I'm just trying to respect those folks that have come to me and say, you had your chance to speak up, >> right? So, all right. So, let me put this out there hypothetically. Let's say I go back, I clean I'll I'll clean this up. kind of listen to Sus Susan and uh because she had some good ideas. I'll clean it up at least that I can get it out

and we'll put it out to all I mean all the staff. >> Yep. >> And get feedback and if that is and this I'm just throwing it out. There's spitballing here is that if it comes back that a majority of the people want that early start on that on the 5th go with it that would that would that you already >> so well >> yeah but you can bring that back up >> bring it back up >> I move to table the u approval of the 26 27 school calendar until next meeting >> second so I mean know we can we can get that like I At least we can we can get that done. So >> So motion by your second by Susan to table this till next meeting. Um any questions or discussion?

I do have something that I think Mr. Jud did bring up. I think it was Mr. Jud brought up a very valid point. Um the transportation for the it doesn't matter towards the end of the year. everyone's going to be in school at the end of the year, but at the beginning of the year, the five days, say option C was the choice. So you have the 5th, which I'm going off the fifth because that's when Fate County starts the 5th, 6th, 7th, 10th, and 11th. So you got five days there where the our school would have to provide transportation to and from school for 71 kids. We cannot tell those 71 kids figure out a way to get to school, then we'll get you over there. We can't do that. We would have to

provide that transportation to and from school for those 71 kids if we went if option C was the option >> doing that anyway. >> Yeah. >> Well, I just and I would ask if he would stick around, Mr. Jud, out of those 71 kids that go over there, how many actually get on one of our buses and ride over there? Because I would guess it'd be about half. Actually, it's more it's more or less all of them because they do not they do not want our kids driving. >> Oh, okay. Well, that's good to know. >> So, how many drive here drives the question, >> right? So, how many of those drive here versus take a bus to get here? >> That would be the question to ask. >> Yeah. We just wouldn't be able

to say figure out how to get to school, >> right? If >> they don't have a car, I'd like we'll have to provide bus, >> right? Sorry. >> Sorry. Do you go over to the You look like you were involved. You go to the career center. Do you drive to school and then you get on the bus? Then you go. Right. So if we did that August 5th for you and kept you that same >> for me, but for other students that can't make it here, their parents have to work or something like that. >> Love to hear from them. So it's been open. Those that's really kind of what we're to try and decide. Start on the 5th or start on the 12th. >> I don't know. I want to >> No, that's all

right. I'm just I asked you. I put you on the spot. >> Students, which ones ride the bus to school, >> right? >> And Mike and R. Randy ought to be able to tell us that. >> We should be able to find that, >> right? >> But there has been also times that the other boys have went and picked him up, somebody else, and brought them to school when they couldn't get to school. Sure. >> So, I mean, it's not the end of the world, >> right? Okay. So, I have a motion by Drew to table this until March. Second, Susan. Any other questions or discussion? All those in favor? I. >> All those opposed. 86. Okay, moving on to item 14, approval of the cost of overtime for the SRO's K9 state statue. Um,

we I had a meeting um Lieutenant and I had a meeting with Sheriff Adams and the state statue that basically um a K9 handler uh SRO K9 handler um is supposed to is required to be given overtime for basically taking care of the dog the animal uh outside of the school hours. Um so um Sheriff Adams had a you know plan he said if you guys can you know help us that'd be great and so we are uh would like to cover the the nine months of while the sky is being used here um since she is greatly I mean just a valuable asset to our building with what you know the service that that he and she provide for us and we fig that's the least we can do to help support our SRO

and uh it's a wonderful dog. That'd be that' be a good thing. So >> that for nine months a year, >> well it's it's it's budgeted for 12, but since the nine month school year, we would cover those nine months and then the sheriff's office said, they will cover the other three months when they not being when Sky is not being used in school. >> I was covering them before that. So, >> they've always had K9. >> I'll entertain a motion first. Let's >> and then >> I'll make a motion. >> Then we can have discussion. >> There you go. >> Did you get a second? >> Susan with a motion. >> Second. >> Allergy. >> Mallerie. One second. Okay. Now, questions or discussion? >> Same question. >> Just who was covering Last who was

taking care of that funding that >> it it was taken out of the budget of the the county sheriff. >> County budget. >> Yes. >> How many hours of overtime a week would that be? >> You have those numbers. Guess I need a number. >> Even a total would be fine. I just >> a total of the entire year. >> A total of what we would be paying >> 8,4546 months. >> 8,450 96. And what's that coming out of that be coming out of what's that >> is that what covers the SRO position? Is there enough money in there like to cover that >> this year? Yeah, >> this year. But what about I'm just thinking moving forward if next year we don't have the money in that security grant. >> Well, I haven't even

applied for next year's yet. I don't apply for that till September. >> I'm sorry. I don't apply for that till probably July. >> How many years has the dog been in the building? year, >> two year year two. >> So, this is the second year. >> Yes. >> So, they paid it the first year, right? >> I mean, $8,000 sounds like a lot of money to me, >> but there's a grant covering it >> for now. >> So, could it be a >> You don't lose that. You don't use it, you lose it. Well, that's that's part of it, but also I mean, like I said, with you know, just the service we provide because I, you know, I I asked the sheriff, "So, what's what's the other option?" He said, "Well," he says, "It

might be where we just can't afford the dog to be at school." So, it's like I said, we have a service that is, you know, been provided and if we can help support that, we should. Now, as we go into next year, as we look at budgets, well, that's I mean, we do have some areas we have to cut. But, I mean, that's that's what that's across the state. >> Why all of a sudden, if they were paying for it, why all of a sudden do they need us to pay for it? >> Well, because they kind of are hitting the same budget crunch as everybody else is across the state with services that are they're they're provided. Um, so it's everybody's hurting and you know, like I said, the fact that dogs here with

us nine months out of the year. Um, >> so is this for from starting today till the end of the school year or is it for the next school year? If it makes any difference, when we applied for the grant, we were supposed to start using that money in September because we were planning on having two SRO's, we're still sitting on one SRO. So technically, the money should be there to take care of this dog stuff this year. But when it comes to next year, if we're going to continue to do the same thing, I'll need to know that to apply for more more money. >> But when you apply >> because that money for that second SRO is just sitting there. We're not doing nothing with it because we don't have to. But you

didn't get the same amount this time around as you did the first time, right? >> I got more this time because we were talking about still covering >> Mr. Shoemaker's half and this new person, but we don't even have a new person. So, we we should still have >> money sitting there that we thought we were going to use for the second SRO that still doesn't exist yet. >> But we already approved the potential what in October the potential hiring of a second SRO. So if they fill that then >> then I mean we would pick up paying then but we're not paying anybody now. We haven't paid anybody else. We were supposed to be paying somebody since September. >> Well I'm saying if we've if we commit to paying overtime for this K9 >>

it would take money out of that but >> for five months though >> we haven't paid our for five months. So I don't know about half a year. What were they going to make? >> But like generally with the SRO's we pay half they pay half. So, I don't know why we wouldn't do that now with the dog. We pay half, they pay half. >> So, is the 8,000 half or all of it? >> Nine months. >> But is it half of it? >> But it would be like we pay we like we would pay half of that. If it's just for the nine months, 8,000 for that nine months, then if it goes by the way we operate the SRO's, we would pay for they would pay for it. >> Well, we're only that's

just the overtime on it. I don't think we're paying any standard time. Uh that's yeah that's just for >> pay over time. >> Right. >> So and it is not a state statute for the K9. >> It's not >> I have a little bit of familiarity with K9 programs. It is not a state statute. It is a I don't even know if call a case law um as far as and it says up to a half an hour is acceptable by um labor laws something along those lines >> Per day. So, I know >> there's some surrounding counties that just say their K9 officers don't have to work a full shift, but they get paid for the full shift because those hours that they're not actually there, they're supposed to be taking care of their

dog, training their dog. So they might be a 10-hour officer per shift, but they're actually only covering the road, working the road for maybe nine of those hours to avoid pain. >> Just >> Well, I think we need to know if we're paying if the 8,000 is half or all of it. >> 8,000 just for 9 months. The full amount is 11,270 328. >> That's still not answering my question. Is it half? >> No, that's what she's answering. whole is basically >> in other is 11,000 pay the point that we should maybe only pay for half of it. or what? >> We got a grant. The grant pays 50%. We pay 50%. That's the half. >> And so the 8,000 is half. >> 4,000 would be half >> that the school would pay and the

other four would be paid by the Department of Homeland Security. >> Grant money. >> So if we agreed to pay this, would it start today and end in May? >> It's for the 2026 calendar year. Oh, so it's not even counting >> budget goes on a calendar year, but we have enough in that grant now to cover this overtime. Plus, if they do put in second SRO, I know they've tried to hire and they haven't got one, but >> if they hired a second SRO, we only have for three months >> for this grant. >> Yes. >> But there's what we're going to get next year. >> We know that it's there. Michael budgeted in Steve, >> so this is for overtime. Are you recommending that we need the dog that much and you're asking

us to fund that need inven resource? Yeah, I like I said, I mean the dog is a valuable resource for us >> and if we can help support that as part of our SRO's duties, >> um I I >> I think we should. >> Okay. >> Um but uh I mean I I understand what Susan's saying as well is like is that is that the half? Is that the you know where we're at on that? Um, so you know, we're going with numbers on what Sheriff Adams, which we can they look and say, you know, go back to him and say, you know, this this is what we can do. This is the best we can do. Uh, it is a new grant, so we have the money to do it. Um, and as uh

Mr. Rester said was that knowing that's coming up, he can put that into the grant going into the the following year. So, I mean, I'm sure they're like every other small agency, school, whatever right now money, but >> do they need us to approve this tonight? >> Is it? >> Yeah. I mean, I think we're we're helping the community. The dog's helping us. Sounds like a win-win for the time being. through putting guarantees on what happens next year. >> Right. Right. >> So, should we make the motion for one year? So, it they don't expect this to be an ongoing thing. >> Well, if we approve it, it sounds like >> it's for >> Mike would need to know in what? September. >> July. >> Okay. You know, in September, right, what we get. >>

Yeah. because I apply in July and then we find out how much we get in September. >> So you would need anything >> you would need to know. Well, it also depends on if the county is able to provide us with a second SRO, which they've been trying. So it just hasn't worked out for whatever reason on their end. So >> So you said this grant money is only there for three months, right? >> Is this grant money only there till the end of the school year? The grant money is there until August 30th or 31st, >> but say they got another SRO. We only got three months of school left basically. >> But yeah, we we're only responsible for the SRO during our fees during to months. >> And they don't care that we're

using that money supposedly for a three year three months past that grant aotment when the grant would be done. >> I guess you know what I'm saying? >> Yeah. Because like when we apply for the grant, it says, "How many SRO's are you expecting?" And I put down two, but it said, but I I could probably contact them to see if I could change that to multiple, but when we pay, we pay the sheriff's department. We don't pay the individual, >> the lump sum. >> Yes. I mean, I can check it. I can do my part to check into that part of it, too. That's because when we make a payment, we just make a payment to Franklin County or I'm sorry, Union County Sheriff's Department. >> And we would make that payment before the

grant's over. >> Yes. >> And you say we need the resource with you. We'll worry about next year next year. But >> one other question I have regarding I mean this money amount plus the safety grant. Is there other things we could spend money on that would make the school safer? For example, the dog is not preventing people from coming to the school, but locks, cameras, more secure doors might >> the dog primarily for drugs. We only got we only got approved for our SRO partition, >> but paying overtime for >> that's part of the SRO >> because we didn't ask I remember when the dog came on, we didn't ask for the dog per se. It was just kind of the county put the dog with >> Yeah, I agree. But in terms of

like the locks and all that, that's all mechanical stuff. This is personnel. So our safety this would not >> talk to I guess personnel. >> Okay. >> I just wanted to ask is >> No, I get you. I get >> we can make the buildings more secure and safer for our staff and students. >> I totally understand. >> But when we applied, we had put other stuff on there, but they had cut that by millions and millions of dollars. So not one person who applied for the safety grant got a 100% funding. Uh they only thing they did was they would they approved each person's number one and our number one was SRO and you didn't even get 100% of your number one. We only got like 92% of what we asked for for the

SRO. >> Yeah, we have a Susan, would you like to adjust your motion at all? I mean, right now it's just a pay for >> So, just to be clear, it's for next year. It's for the 26, 27. >> No, it's for this calendar year from now till December 31st, 2026. Okay, >> that doesn't make sense to me because we're not here in the summertime. >> But we wouldn't pay we wouldn't pay >> we're only paying until 9 months. >> We're only paying till the end of May. >> Okay. >> So, and then the end of the year >> when the SRO is not here with the dog, we're not paying overtime during that period. >> One quick question. Does K9 go to all the buildings? >> Yes. Yes. >> Yeah. He keeps her in

the trap. >> Is it she right the dog? >> Um she's only deployed when needed. >> When needed and he's done um you know >> we've done we've done locker sweeps and look back sweeps and she comes in and does those for us. And then um there that we've set up. And then there's also times where like when students are in class, he'll go ahead and bring her in and just run her run her through some walkers on just randomly. I say I just wanted to be I wanted to bring this forward and be transparent with our entire community, our staff. Um because if we're spending money towards one thing that just want to be clear where that money's coming from um because I don't want to make it seem like we're giving money to

someone and we can't give raises to our teachers. So I want to be transparent where that money is actually coming from. Sorry. >> Grant. >> I ask about going built from one building to all the buildings. That dog goes in the gym down there and steps on the Ohio side. Are we going to get back up? We're going to get feedback from that like we did with Ohio students. I'd say hell with it. Say you're sorry. It's a lot easier to say that, but God the way people are is crazy. >> I think that would have to be a conversation with the sheriff. So, and and in my part, you're you're uh that dog could be looking after and protecting whatever Franklin County kids. That never came up before, but I did. This is nuts.

>> As far as my motion goes, I just want to make sure it's only for this nine months from now until the end of the year, not an ongoing thing. >> We can do it again. We're going to do it again. >> Okay. So, I have a motion by Susan for to approve the cost of overtime for the SRO K9 through the end of 2026. I have a second by Mallerie. Any other questions or discussion? >> I said we're going to do it again. It needs to be brought up at least what? November, October. >> Yeah, because we'll need to >> Well, July him put it in the >> f out in July. Great. in June. >> Okay. So, motion by Susan, second by Mallerie. Any other questions, discussion? All those in favor? >> I.

>> All those opposed. Moving on to public participation. Um signed up superintendent's comments. >> Um thanks for having me. Um hey uh couple things. Um and uh you know I think Mr. Jud covered, you know, basketball. Our girls are are playing uh Heritage Christian in Greenfield Central. So that's four o'clock on uh on Saturday. Um I did talk to uh Mr. Rester and Mr. Rester today because one of the things my wife and I talked about, and I don't know if it's possible, we talked to um our transportation department today that my wife and I were talking on the way home was that it would be great if we get like a fan bus And I, as I told the roosters, I was like, I'll be more than happy to write the check for if

and it'll cover the bus, all you know, the driver, all that stuff to get a group of kids out to the game because I'll tell you is that on Saturday night, I mean, we had chess painters there. Um, we I mean, the the kids were actually alive. I mean, it was it was great to see. I mean, they were excited, they were happy, they were smiling. um they were a little nervous about the you know the the coat's coming off but it was it was fun. So um but you know I I I will make that offer and we'll put it out to the kids that we're going to have to have a minimum number though because I don't want to drive a bus for two kids. Um but Joe said we could you know

we could do a bus 48 about 150 bucks and I said I I will cover that. Send me the bill if we can get a group. Um hopefully they sell the tickets in the in the athletic department so we can get them out there. Um I I was at the wrestling I don't what what do they call the wrestling barn over there after way after school >> and uh because we have a we also have a wrestler going to to uh semi-ate and u you know we talked about we had a great conversation about changing the culture >> in this district and uh because you know we talked about I mean somebody said it tonight is we don't we don't win a lot you know there's none very often and it was like you can

tell because the kids don't know how to get excited at the game. They don't know how to, you know, and I know Mr. Ashbrook, your son, is once get the Patriot patrol started again. Um, you know, just those those bleacher creature types that come to everything, they get excited. They, you know, you know, because as I told Mr. Jud on on Saturday night, I said, "Here's the thing." I said, you know, in 20 years, kids aren't going to say, "Man, you remember that biology test we took? That was great. That was the best part of our year." but they'll remember, hey, remember we, you know, had sectionals and we all had, you know, painted our bodies and we went to the game. We got to get to where it's a memorable memorable experience. Um, so

that's what we've been working on. Um, so, uh, like I said, I'll put it out there that, you know, we the Jones Foundation will pay for the fan bus. If we can get, you know, if we can get a full bus, that'd be great. So, and I'd much rather have kids riding the bus out there rather than driving themselves out there. Um 70 is is and I don't know if we go across 70 to get to Greenfield, but I apologize to my car every time I get on 70 because it is the worst road in America. So um so we're we're there. Um like I said, student section is great at fan bus. Uh we did get um a waiver for those two days after um so we don't have to make up those those

final days. We are losing President's Day and Good Friday, but we did get granted a waiver to uh not have those two additional days. So, our school year is it be a normal stop. Um, I had a great opportunity to meet with Lynn Sheets, which some of you know Lynn Sheets. Uh, he came in last last week and met. Um, they had a lot of information. I told my son I have to start meeting with you like weekly or something just you give me this background on a lot of things. So, um, but that's I mean that's really just it's a great place to be. Um uh once again, I mean, we're just moving forward and trying to do the best we can and uh provide as many opportunities for our kids because, you know,

I said it today. I've said it a number of times that, you know, with our students that we have here, the support we have from home, community, school board, there's no reason why this is not the district of choice. Not for just the county because we're there not a lot in the county, but for the area >> is getting kids from Fate County, getting kids from Franklin County coming up to us because we're we're doing better things and we will continue to do better things. So, um that's like I said, just the whole idea of changing a culture is is key and that's what we're working on, not just athletics, but academics and everything. So, that's it. Thank you. >> You couldn't agree more about the culture. >> Yeah, we're working on it. We're working

on it. >> Any board comments. Not hearing anything. So, we'll adjourn the regular meeting at 8:21. There is an executive session to follow. We'll go down to the room.
