001Call the meeting in order. We have a quorum. Start with the pledge of allegiance. >> Pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Okay, there are a couple amendments to the agenda. Um, other than one you got in your packet, you should have got a copy in front of you. um a bus 92 trade in for a new mini bus. >> Uh they're looking at about $1,500. Um it is not roadw worthy. Uh it's got an electrical problem. It's got uh uh the tires could be much better shape. Uh and right now it's just completely dead. It's going to have to be towed off the premises, but they're $1,500 and they'll uh bring

002that when they bring the new bus. And then the second amendment is the additional donation of $200 from teens in the driver's seat for FCCLA uh safe driving campaign. And then the college core presentation will not be tonight. It'll be a later date. Those are the only the agenda motion. >> Second shot. Drew second. Any questions or discussion? All those in favor? >> I. >> All those opposed. >> Okay, moving on to public participation. >> Oops. I do not have anyone signed up for public participation. So, we'll move on to building updates. I'm just going how I have them stacked up here. We'll start with the high school. Good evening everyone. Um, for the first time in a long time, our attendance stayed the same as uh previous month. So, we're still at 3:39. I

003think we might have enrolled a student today. We weren't in power school when I checked, though. I have a picture of a group of students from the FCCLA who visited the uh Cincinnati Museum Center. Actually, that might just be um some of the FCCL a kids and kids from Jennifer Brandon's fax classes, but uh Jennifer said the Oshwitz exhibit was amazing and our kids represented our school and our community with a lot of respect and she's very proud of him. We turn the page, there's a picture of Tanner Paddock, our outstanding cross country runner. He was 29th at the regional and he finished 171 out of 250 at state. Tanner told me he got stuck stuck in a pack and couldn't get out, but he had a [snorts] great time and he's looking forward to

004next year. I would congratulate the classes that you see in the bottom picture there. Our uh student council sponsored a pumpkin decorating contest and our first place winner was Mr. um was Mrs. Red's class. You see they had several little pigs. They did a great job decorating. And then Mr. Ashbrook's SRT class came in second. They actually had a pumpkin lifting weights. So we had a lot of fun with that. We're looking forward to next year. I think Ashley, you were the leader of that, right? >> Carla. Whose idea was it? Was it simultaneous? >> Yeah, I think >> we do a lot of >> They sync up very [laughter] well. and uh I think there was some um worries that it wouldn't go well. It went fabulous and so we're looking forward to doing

005that next year. There's our first uh inter mural team winners pictured there. Uh I'd like to thank Jordan Ashbrook for taking time to organize and run our inter mural program. It's first time we've had intram murals for a while. We didn't have a whole lot of participation, but every SRT group um had a team, and if you look at those kids, a lot of them are are freshman or sophomores. So, um we're looking forward to doing some other sports and inter murals. Um I'd like to thank our custodian crew and our maintenance crew. There's a couple pictures there. There's a picture of the floor. You have to look close because at the bottom is the floor that has been polished and sealed. At the top is the old floor where it was just waxed over

006and over and over. And you can see how it yellowed. Our cafeteria floor is now white instead of yellow. And it's beautiful. And uh it's time inensive. It's labor intensive, but they did a great job. We will find some time to do the rest of the hallways in the building when we get a chance. But we're we're preparing for new furniture in the cafeteria. We have painted the walls gray. You can see that we're working on some signage. Um some branding of the cafeteria and I think our students are going to be very proud of the finished product. So like to thank the board for allowing us to spend some money on the cafeteria. And if you turn over [snorts] the last page, there's some upcoming home events that maybe you would like to attend.

007We'd love to see you there. Um especially the fall play this weekend. There's a show at 7 o'clock on Saturday and one at 2 o'clock on Sunday. So you have any questions for me tonight? >> What is the fall play? >> Oh, you had to ask me. >> McBth. That's right. >> Okay. Thank >> you. [laughter] Spirit up. It's a com. >> Okay, moving on to the middle school. Um after steady enrollment last month, our enrollment did take a hit. This month um we are down four from last month. We are down. Um there are eight there from last year. Our first thing we have up here, we had red ribbon week. Uh we're decorating contest sponsored by um prevention and secure with K uh Ranker Payton donating that big blue trophy you'll see is

008the winning SRT group. Um we had just finished a door decorating contest um about three weeks prior to that, so they turned around and did it again. Um they're really having a lot of fun with that. As you can see, they were awarded it on our dress up day before break, so they are in costume, a lot of them. Um we did um a lot of different groups dressed up for for Halloween there. Um and had a lot of fun with that. We are finishing our iLearn checkpoint one this week. Um we did have a lot of students out last week. Um and so we're we still have a lot of makeups to do before we can get your results in. Um but those checkpoints allow us to check check progress on specific standards and

009provide some intervention um to students in need. Um we are looking at using SRT time to to provide some targeted instruction um to students where they need help. Our school counselor and social worker have been working on uh body safety lessons with students. um it is a mandatory program that we present to that um but they did get information and opt out sheets sent home. Then we have some upcoming events there. Sports are going to start next [cough] week. Winter sports with boys basketball. Um we do have a parent who's hosting a Christmas craft workshop for UCMS students. That'll be the 22nd. And we have um drive a Ford fundraiser that's going to be at our buildings um for our athletic department. Um but I threw that on there because it'll be out our building

010on that same day the 22nd. Any questions? and moving on to college corner. >> Good evening. Um, enrollment's about the same as it was last month. We actually gained a student but had passed two. So, we've kind of evened out. Um, a couple of upcoming events. Spellb is the 17th um of November. So, we'll be heading over to um Richmond. That's where I've seen Mr. Jones, I think, before on several occasions. So, um that's just kind of full circle there. Um December 16th is our Christmas concert. So, we will be having that in our gym. Those are our character trait um winners of the month for October for knowledge. Um a couple of you were talking about the penny supper. Um a rough estimate about $5,000 profit after we kind of take out everything. Um

011and $1,200 went to the health and family and that has been done already. So, um it was a great great turnout. Um, we had 20 items in the auction and most of them sold for 200. Um, and just a little bit less maybe on a few. I got a really good coconut cream for 50 because it was at the end. So, uh, I'm still eating that every night. But, uh, yeah. So, it was a really good event. Um, those are October pictures there. We did a lot of firehouse um, visits in October. our fourth grade traveled um to interview um some different elderly members [snorts] um and did like an interview with them and then wrote essays about it. So you can see one of our fourth graders there. Um and then we did have

01294.8% attendance for conferences by parents and then we also are finishing up checkpoints. Uh math overall we were really impressed with. We started that first and we were riding this really good train and then um we took the language arts test and across the state is it is a lot lower um and so is ours. So I think ours just kind of aligned with what was happening in the state. So we're going to start unwrapping that and seeing how we can uh better suit them for the next year. >> [cough] >> 249. Sorry. >> Oh, yes. You're good to go. >> Our enrollment is 328. We're up one from last um month. We have some great upcoming events um in the next couple of weeks coming up. Carnival this Friday. We'd love to see you

013there. It's a really great time. Bring your children. Um, we're hosting the Wizards. Uh, Mun County hasn't had the Wizards in probably 10 years, so we are bringing them back. We have players from all of the schools, so we're quite excited about that. So, get your tickets and join us for that at in the high school gym next Wednesday. Um, and then Thanksgiving break students of the month. Um, you can see our display there and I listed the names for initiative and flexibility. They're they we do we announce every Wednesday the kids' names so they hear them on the announcement. So we will spend the rest of this month announcing those for October. Student council um did a canned food drive last week and they collected over 1300 cans, 1,319 cans and that went to

014the local 4C's food pantry. Um it was really amazing. I have a lot of community members that didn't have students bring even bringing in cans. It was just a really great um event and they I can't I think it was fifth grade ended up with the most cans. So, they are going to get a pizza party out of it. I have pictures from Halloween um from different classes and grade levels there. We did that before um fall break. We started an attendance incentive to try to work on our tardies and our absences. Um, last month we started at October and third grade was our winner and we'll do a little incentive for the grade level every month. So, they're going to have popcorn this week. Currently for the month of November, first grade has taken

015the lead. So, we'll see if they can hold out for that for the rest of the month. And then I also posted our iLearn checkpoints. Very similar to Christina. Our kids did amazing in math. um language arts not so well. Um we started to dissect the data. We'll dig into it next week with our teachers, but you can definitely tell the language arts test like I think 25% of third graders passed it statewide. So it was a little defeating, but then when you dig into it, I think we'll see some some things and see what we can do to make that better. But I think we're doing a lot of in-house progress monitoring as well and I don't feel like overall we're that low. So we'll see. We'll see what the data will give us.

016Any questions? [clears throat] Okay, moving on to accept donations. Um, I'll just go ahead and read this. The Union County Musical Department would like to thank Dennis and Suzanne Brack and Susan Brack for a donation for the musical from the Steven Brack Memorial Fund for $3,600. Um, the musical department is extremely grateful for their support in the musical arts. So along with the $3,600 plus the $200 donation um for the FCCLA safe driving campaign, uh the total amount is $3,800. >> So move. >> Susan with a motion. >> Dave with a second. Any questions or discussion? [snorts] >> All those in favor? >> All those opposed? Okay, moving on to consent agenda. We have a claims docket of1,322,44.91. [cough] >> Dave with a motion. >> Second. Jerry with a second. Any questions or discussion? All

017those in favor? >> I. >> All those opposed? Any abstain? >> So, uh Ryan, would you like to introduce your new coaches? >> Coaches here. Um got our new head coaches for softball and baseball here tonight. Mr. Eric Coyle, Mr. Ryan Nehoff. I'd like to welcome them to the board. [applause] Obviously, they'd like to see your faces out of ball games this spring. Absolutely. >> All right. >> That's okay. >> I know you guys aren't new to the community, but welcome to the positions and good luck. >> Thank you. Okay, moving on to old business college board updates. >> Our meeting is moved to Thursday this morning. The Ohio School Board conference is usually this week. So, we just put it in our agenda [snorts] in our schedule early in January and they moved it.

018So, it's next week. So, we went on moved it to Thursday and left it there. Um, so I don't really have an update, but Susan and I did win re-election and we'll be welcoming Shannon Maddock to the board in January and Mike Sims will be retiring. >> Congratulations. >> And moving on to new business, uh, high school student council sponsoring veterans breakfast uh, tomorrow. Want to speak on that? Yes. Yes, we are going to have a breakfast at 10:00 at A400. Kahila is going to bring their coffee and student council members are going to provide food along with uh Aaron Overhold as a last minute uh bringing her baked egg casserole. So, please come out and join us if you'd like to. Uh, one of the things that we're doing this year, student council, is

019we are really trying to be more present in the community and uh, please follow us on the Patriot Press and if you have ideas or concerns, please reach out to us. >> Thank you. [snorts] And that's at 10:00 a.m. when you hear enter through the gym doors. >> Yes. >> Just making sure anyone listening at home heard that clearly. So, >> absolutely. [snorts] Please join us. >> All right. Moving on to the Ohio aortionment. Only thing I have are all the uh policies >> unless it's something unless >> you need table that >> sorry >> okay I'll entertain a motion to table that until And I need to know other than Dave on that >> Well, no, I take it back. I think he's >> there's three. We'll see if y'all can meet this weekend

020before Thanksgiving to get that. I thought of this morning, but that was great. >> Yeah. I wondered when I seen this nobody's eating that yet. >> Yeah, I'll entertain a motion. >> So moved >> to table until >> second. >> Susan here with a motion. Susan with a second. Any questions or discussion? All those in favor? All those opposed. And moving on to item number 11. Uh first reading of volume 38 number one and first reading of volume 38 number one file two. Again those are um just first readings. I should have got plenty of paperwork on those. Correct. So, we will not be voting on anything on that tonight. Uh, so moving on to item 12, which is the superintendent's comments. Uh, a couple things we looked at um after they kind of helped

021deliver board packets uh this past week and uh we would love to be able to go like digital to where we can just send it to you and instead of getting a big you know uh because when you look at I mean printing this off you know times however many and it's a lot it's a lot of paper where we can just send it digitally if you have a laptop [cough] not uh we talked to our technology department, they can provide one. Um but it can just be emailed to you or I mean I'll have to check and see what the correct you know privacy wise all of that but to get it sent to you digitally rather than run it off every every time we meet. I don't know if you'd be in favor

022of that or >> I definitely would be. >> I think it's a good idea. >> So we used to get all the policies through email. >> Okay. >> Our the school emails. >> School emails. That would be perfect because I think I would save a lot of time copying, a lot of money from copying and uh you have it right there in front of you or for the meetings. So you get it, you know, well before and then have it for you in front of the meetings for the meetings. So um just let us know if you need a laptop or if you have access to one already. >> Can we just get a printed copy of like the agenda at our that night >> just so we have something to write on just to

023make notes? >> Yeah. So, one thing just to keep in mind, we've talked about this in the past. And so, some of the information that you provide to us falls under the um records request, you know, like that's one reason we're not allowed to we haven't in the past been able to email everything out because we've asked about it before. So, I know everybody's driven these things around and handd delivered them places and so I would just make sure we check with the attorney. So things like board polic like policies that were got pages and pages of we can get to you but some of the other things more delicate stuff we we can run copies for you. >> So okay that's that sounds perfect. Um staff handbooks. Uh we talked about that. Uh couple

024things that have come to me is that we have one um I guess the handbooks. Uh we have some things that we got to take a look at, dress code, policies, things like that. Um give me a little bit of time to get more [snorts] familiar with it and we kind of bring it up uh hopefully like December and I can have a better idea. Give me a chance. I've been doing a lot of reading and staff handbook wasn't one of them just yet because it was enough other stuff I had. So uh give me a little bit of time and uh if we can, you know, just uh bring that up in December that'd be great. uh the family handbooks. We've also had a number of the principles talk to me about um you

025know possibly splitting that up because I think there's just one right now if I'm correct and if we could have one separate basically for every you know each school um I think be more user friendly for our parents but that's just I mean from place I've been before so I don't know if that's a that's a possibility or not. uh I can work with the principles on uh looking at that and you know redoing it because I I guess it's pretty lengthy right now. Um but if you got a kindergartener in first grade, you don't really care right now what's going on at the high school, what their their policies are. Um it's good to know you're, you know, 8 n 10 years, but right now you just want to know what's what's happening for

026the elementary school and so on. So if that's a possibility, I'll I'll I'll work with our um administrative team and we'll we'll get going on that. to be separate. >> What's that? >> Used to be separate last year, the first year. >> So, go back to being separate. Yeah, that's so um any other thing is as I've said is that um you know before the meeting started, I have been given such a warm welcome uh by the whole community. Um was at the penny supper on Friday night with JV in the varsity game on Saturday. Um we got plans to be at the play on Sunday. So, um, a sports banquet to me is just it is, uh, you know, as I said during the interview was that was one of the things we're looking

027for that small community, that small town field. And I definitely got it. Uh, because I mean, it's just it's everybody that comes up to me and and introduced. I may not know them, but they've seen my picture somewhere and they're my best friend. So, it's uh it's just it's been great. I I mean once again I appreciate just uh allowing the opportunity to be here and um just thank you. >> I don't know if you wanted to we talked briefly before the meeting um about keeping the recognizing the students of the months um for the school. I don't know if you wanted to touch on that. >> Um well I'm going to ask and I know because that's one of the things been been requested is to to have a students of the month board

028meeting. I know uh Dan um null had some ideas and was making you know the plaques and all that but um other place I've been we we can do it in a different way um which one of the things we did up in Richmond was uh I started a it was a future red devils uh where there was one student from each of the schools which six elementaryaries the Hard and the middle schools and they'd get a certificate they'd get a shirt that just said you know future redevil And then you'd recognize them at the uh like the either the football games before the football game started or during the basketball games when there was a uh like a boys and girls varsity game on the same night like a Friday or Saturday. They have

029them come out and students here already get in free but uh the parent one one parent would get in free as well. And so they get the certificate, a shirt and they get a uh a little uh ticket to go get a hot dog, drink, and chips at the at the concession stand. And it was kind of a neat thing um you know what we did with the the high school there watching I mean high school kids would be cheering for the you know for the little ones. Um it was good. It was it was it was a lot of fun and uh I I don't know if that would I personally I think that would mean a little bit more having your peers and everybody cheering for you rather than coming to a board

030meeting not with strangers per se but with you know the adults it's like oh congratulations you know. Um so just I mean there's other ways to you know to do it um which you're going to work with the administrative team and we'll figure out what you know what's a way that we can do really really really celebrate um get people excited um you know just uh make it a you know a whole family you know deal but also just like I said get a bigger crowd to cheer for them. So um I'm I'm open to suggestions uh and we can uh we can work with it. So it's uh we can get shirts made. We can get I mean And the nice thing is I mean everybody in this uh district the district is a

031future patriot. So it's uh that's a that's a great thing. So but uh I mean and that's not the only way to do it. There's other ways to do it. But uh you know I say let's let's make it a big deal. Let's you know really really get those kids out. And um I I would love to start showcasing you know some of what what's going on. Uh you know maybe have the middle school choir uh music class singing the national anthem of the basketball game would be great. I mean, there's a lot of stuff we can do to just kind of really show that, hey, we're awesome and uh, you know, show everybody else that we're awesome. So, just a thought. >> Whatever you think. I mean, I like the idea that we're recognizing

032students, but I agree with you. It probably more something that your peers were around than the 18 of us in this room or whatever. >> Right. Right. And that's Yeah, it it'd be great. So, um, and I like I mean, we at the JB game and and the varsity game, we had good good turnout, uh, for the first game of the season, and I know it's going to keep getting bigger and, um, keep keep, uh, going from there. So, keep getting better. >> Thank you. Uh, moving on to board comments. >> I just want to congratulate Christina. Friday night was just wonderful and the amount of money made was terrific. It was really a fun fun evening. >> But I couldn't do it without the community support that we have and just all the great

033people that help put it on. It's uh it takes all of us. So >> it's it's fun and I'm so glad you were there. >> Oh, it's great. And maybe next year we do like a layaway for the pie. [laughter] >> I told my husband I said my pants are getting tight, but like I can't let this pie go to waste. It's $200. [laughter] So, we're going to eat two pieces every night if we have to. >> Well, Chelsea got one of your mom's cakes >> and she called me while she's eating it. She said, "This is the best thing I've ever ate in my life." [laughter] >> Is it expensive, too? >> Next year, you guys will have to come to get one. >> Yes, I've been there. Sorry. I'm sorry I missed it.

034I was away on business, but it is a good night. >> It is good night. >> Y thank Carl and Ashley for your work with the But the student council with everything you're doing, but especially the veterans, I think you got they sent out uh letters to veterans and stuff. Plus, they're doing the breakfast and I think it's great to honor them. Really pull the kids into that. Thank you. I actually had those same things written down. We appreciated getting a veterans card in our mailbox. Thank you for that special touch. I've also asked many times if we can move the podium to it to like the side so we can see everybody. >> Just have Carla sit on that side. [laughter] And then we got away with a good [clears throat] bargain at the

035penny supper because your husband didn't fit us up, >> but my mom did. You know, >> I did see her doing, which it was her dessert, so that was even better. I told Ryan, "Sit on your hands and quit waving to the kids." Cuz one time I think we bought something for $300. So [laughter] anyway, thank you all that I mean the the Veterans Day thing that's of course just super special. I feel like in years past, not just here, but other places, it's kind of gone to the wayside. I felt like we're very patriotic right now. And I think that's um important. And thanks for all you do for the penny [clears throat] supper. I know it's gone on for 80 or 90 years, but I even remember when I taught there, you know,

036like the preparation for that and collecting donations for weeks in advance, um [clears throat] it's always very impactful. And I also just want to say to remember with Mallerie not being here tonight, keep her family in your thoughts and prayers. That's the only thing I have. Um, anyone else has got anything else? Um, just want to recognize all of our maintenance um, and janitors in the school district. Um, constantly keeping the school looking good. um watching them how quickly they move in, especially out at football games. Uh cleaning up the uh stands. There's always a lot of trash. So, um [snorts] they do a great job um just keeping everything looking good. Uh and then just to some of the local community members, pastors, everyone that was willing to step up last week. Uh, I

037know it's not it was not an easy week. It's still not easy. Uh, but just goes to show you how good this community is, how quickly everyone's willing to step up and help. Um, so anyone at home listening that helped out last week, just thank you. Um, and just keep taking a m like Jessica said. So, um, thank you to the middle school for getting all that organized as far as helping the students out. I know, um, it was hard seeing some of our students, the pain they were going through last week. So, uh, I think they were taken care of last week and thank you for the middle school for doing that. So, that's all I have. Sure, I'll need to thank someone again next next month, but we'll get to that. No other

038comments. We'll adjourn at 7:34. >> I would like to say don't get used to
