Motion carries 70. Next item, consider the approval of the transfer appropriations in major fund accounts. Uh this is something we do every year to kind of balance the books. Um so nothing of real significance here. Just need to get some of the budget lines uh balanced out. Any questions or discussion hearing? None. All those in favor signify by saying I. I. All those
opposed say sign. Motion carry 70. No other action items. On the discussion information, first one, policies 0140. >> Yep. In your board packet, uh actually you got two policies and I included a memo in there as well. Um just an update on um two items. First one is filling a board vacancy. Um there's been some changes in the law um where board members would have the option of declaring for a political party. Um if that were to be the case, it uh would mean that um we would not follow the traditional means of filling that vacancy then um of the remaining board members selecting from applicants. And so if a board member were to choose to elect to um affiliate with a political party um and then they would step down or you know any
of the other reasons why they couldn't fulfill that term, it would actually go back to the um whichever party um in the county to fill that vacancy rather than a fee for the board. And so that's the first item. U the second item in is just a prepayment of invoices and claims. And it's been a minute since I lasted this. Um uh this is a new policy that's not currently in place and so this is a recommended that we just add this policy to our um to our policy handbook. This was recommended by Julie Slavvens and basically it speaks to if you recall at the end of the year we always ask for approval. uh we would still continue to do that, but basically just puts in place that um we could pay claims that
we should at all cost to make sure that we're getting approval from board members before that we would pay those claims. Um I didn't do a very good job explaining that at the end of the year sometimes claims will come through before the next board meeting will occur that we have to pay out prior to the end of the calendar year. And so we always at the end of the year, I think it's usually in November or December, first meeting in December, we ask for your approval to do so. basically this policy just saying we should continue that practice of asking for your permission before we do so. There's been a few instances in um other school districts in which this policy was not in place and districts were just paying those things out without
asking for permission to do so. And so Julie's recommending that we put this policy in place. Just reaffirm that we do passport and request your permission to pay out claims before the end of the year. >> So nothing is obviously changing from before. It's just giving us more um >> putting in policy. Yeah. Putting writing. Okay. >> And so again, not that hopefully anything happens, but if I were to step down, Jessica were to leave again, new folks that come in, not already having that piece in place, you've got it in board policy to know this is what we would expect you guys to do. >> So with filling the board vacancy, we still have our other policy as well as far as how the school board moves. >> Correct. >> Process if they don't
declare a part. >> Correct. And >> that still is in effect. >> Correct. And again, it's not it's optional. You don't have to declare a political affiliation. If you choose not to, then it would revert back to what is currently in place. So if somebody declares a party, whether Democrat or Republican, and they fulfill they fill that seat, it doesn't have does it have to be somebody that declares their party though? presume. >> I'm assuming it's going to be someone that Yeah. is a part of their um their affiliated party. Correct. >> But I I I guess they would have the option of it not being in that case. Um >> yeah, it says that the vacancy would be filled by the affiliated political party caucus under state law providing for the party caucus to
fill vacancies of elected officials. So I mean looking for somebody they would want somebody to declare their party before they appoint them. >> Correct. I'm sure that's the way that >> sounds like train wreck. >> Yeah, >> that's exactly what I'm saying. [snorts] >> So anything else? Any other discussion? >> That's that's sorry that's all I have this evening. There being no further business come to attention the board a motion to adjourn is in order. So moved >> second. All those in favor signify by saying I >> I same
