All right. Welcome to the Wawasee Community School Corporation May 12th, 2026 regular meeting. Um don't really have any opening comments besides welcoming everybody. We've got a lot of good news items to go through, so we'll get after it, but let's start with uh pledge of allegiance and a prayer and then we'll get going. Please rise. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> And the vision statement >> Our students are accomplished, well-rounded citizens who positively impact their communities. >> Let's all stand and let's pray. And let's pray. Heavenly Father, we come before you this evening and we're just so thankful for the opportunities that are before us and the celebrations

for the things that are behind us. And it's as we're coming towards the end of the school year, we're just so thankful for the growth that our students have shown and the the strength that our teachers have shown and resilience and we're just so proud of our schools and our community and God, we're just so thankful to be a part of it. And we're just also thankful for the opportunities that we have in front of us. And opportunities to make decisions for students and decisions for families. And we just pray for wisdom and strength that we do these things in the benefit of our families and for our students and for your glory in your name. Amen. >> Amen. Okay, Dr. Olds. >> [snorts] >> We have a lot of good news to share tonight.

So it's so exciting. Thanks everyone for coming to be part of it. We're going to start with the fact that the high school super mileage team placed first at the 2026 Shell Eco-marathon at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. They competed against 75 vehicles and they were first. Isn't that cool? From 56 different institutions and six countries. So big congratulations to the students, Mr. Coblentz, and their crew. Let's give them a ROUND OF APPLAUSE. >> [applause] >> WE MIGHT TRY TO HAVE THEM COME TO A FUTURE MEETING. IT'S really cool. >> didn't we beat some universities and stuff, right? I mean, we >> You know that Jeff, yeah. >> That's so cool. >> That was amazing. This needs to be a big celebration. But we have many things to celebrate tonight. So we'll keep moving. Uh Wawasee

also had six students participate in the Kosciusko Student Venture Challenge, a program designed to encourage and develop young entrepreneurs right here in the county. After going through an 8-week boot camp where different mentors from the community help lead facilitation, they created and launched their own real businesses and presented them to a panel of judges. A total of $14,300 was awarded to bronze, silver, and gold recipients. Mr. Chad Hoffert is here tonight, their teacher and coach, and he's going to tell us a little bit about it and have who won. Come on forward. >> Hello, my name is Chad Hoffert. I'm a math teacher at the high school. And this is sort of a new thing for Kosciusko County. So, we thought maybe we would kind of explain Hey, Reese, go on up. Kind of explain

a little bit about what it's about here briefly. But, um as it was said, it's to cultivate entrepreneurial entrepreneurial mindsets in students to develop businesses that will hopefully be planted here in Kosciusko County in the future. But, a lot of them, you know, you got to start small, but it's going to give you that idea of what you're going to do when you when you get more of a chance when you're when you're older and so forth. So, we met for we had eight 2-hour sessions where all the participants from Kosciusko County met in Warsaw. And they would just brainstorm, hash out ideas, and and come up with plans and designs. And it was everything from just kind of a concept to actual like businesses that were launched and in practice. And um and then

in March there was a judging. And in April there was a showcase in Winona Lake for the community to come and and kind of see what had been done. So, this is the second year that we've participated in it, and we had um we had six students participate. And during the judging, they can actually earn monetary prizes for their business as an investment in into the business in the future. And so, we're pretty excited to be a part of this. And I want to make sure that I thank Tina Schmucker and Jeff Wallmer for allowing the time for the students to be away from their classes once a month uh, for a couple hours uh, to do this and um, I'm going to briefly just kind of introduce the ones that we had doing it

this year and then I think uh, Zach's going to share just real briefly about what he kind of learned through the experience. So, we had Max Taylor and Preston Shear with their uh, their company is called Iconics Media and I'm sure many of you have seen their work um, at different events with all the video editing and so forth and and so forth. Uh, Zach Kreider with KH Power Washing uh, Reece Beasley, Reece B Baking Carson Shear, Dockside Movers and Jack Shoemaker um, had Boat Uber and um, so it was uh, it was really neat because like I said, some of these were just like things that they had thought about doing and now they're actually given a chance to put it into practice um, and so forth. And we actually Weston Plikerd was part

of it last year and I forget I forget what your uh, business was last year but uh, he was part of it and uh, went through the whole uh, the whole pitch process as well. Um, so Zach, did you want to say something to Reece? No? Okay. All right. Zach, go ahead and kind of share your experience. >> Yeah, so it's uh, it's a 8-month program. Once a month you go to Warsaw High School and they do a class. It's really cool because every month they bring in some business owners and you get to meet some of like the top guys like Zimmer Biomet and it's really cool just to sit back and listen to their ideas and then also what you're learning about businesses like the the marketing and the business and the the

outflow and how everything happens. And then I just kind of like to sit back and and compare and you know, how did these top guys do that and how can I put that in my business and how can I learn about business? And it really helped me with with my power washing stuff, get more clients, get more leads and plan on doing it again this summer and hopefully I can get some more clients. >> One more thing, I just wanted to say we uh, we had They have different ratings. We had out of the six, we had four gold ratings and two bronze ratings. And so they all, you know, did an amazing job. So >> Thank you very much. >> Good job. >> [applause] >> Thanks for representing Wawasee so well over there. That's

great. Wawasee Early Learning Center received a $1,500 grant from the Kosciusko County Community Foundation. This grant is to purchase child-size carpentry workbenches and age-appropriate tools for the three classrooms preschool classrooms located in our district. The next item is about the American Welding Society certification tests. Here's some pretty amazing numbers, so listen. Nine Wawasee, two Goshen, and two Fairfield students took a combined 43 of these tests. All 43 were passed and earned a certification for students. Each student received at least two American Welding Society certifications with three students earning three certifications, four students earning four, and two two students earning five. So I think that's very cool. Let's give them a round of applause. And now for one of our favorite parts of the year, the Turnaround Achievement Awards. The Turnaround Achievement Award recognizes one student

from each school in grades five, eight, and 12 who has made a positive choice about his or her educational future. The school's principal and staff members select the deserving student. The turnaround can occur in behavior, attitude, attendance, or academics. The principals are here to introduce the Turnaround Award winners from their schools. And after the introduction, students, remember to stay up here to receive your award and a Joe's ice cream gift card. We will begin with Mr. Casey from Milford School. Come on down. >> Good evening. We told Carmela she doesn't have to say anything. So, Carmela Moreno is our fifth grade Turnaround Award winner. Couple of quick notes. Couple of quick notes. She's very quiet, but the strength that she carries throughout her time at Milford shows with her positivity in her in her attitude.

She's a hard worker. Mrs. Van Laken is here. The celebration mom is here. We're super excited. She's like, "I don't have to say anything." I was like, "No, you do not." And so the point that I want to make is like she has this strong desire to learn and the development that she has accumulated over the time as a student at Milford is awesome. You can't put it into words. The development from kindergarten all the way to fifth grade. And so a couple of big things I wanted to point out. She asks questions. She gives her best effort. She shows up every day. And she just is who she is. And she crushes it. So, Carmela Moreno, let's give her a round of applause. >> [applause] >> We'll do. Dr. Wilfong, we'll do a picture

at the end of the >> Yeah, yeah. >> Okay. Next we have North Webster. >> Hello everyone. This is Kaylin. I would I'm excited to introduce you to her this evening. Kaylin is a fifth grade student at North Webster and she is our winner for the Turnaround Award. Um and and I think all of us know, but maybe haven't always experienced, you know, sometimes there's challenges outside of school and sometimes life can be hard. And sometimes [clears throat] when things are challenging, that can make school pretty challenging. And Kaylynn, I think you remember you've had some challenges at school over the years, haven't you? And sometimes when things didn't go your way, that kind of made you grumpy, didn't it? And sometimes maybe you would argue or not or or get really frustrated and have

big feelings. Well, I want you to know I want you to know that your teachers and I have been so impressed with you this year because things are different. You are trying so hard to keep your emotions under control. You're trying so hard to do things on your own and to try it yourself the first time and to listen to teachers. But one thing Kaylynn that I know is always been true about you is you care about other people and and you want to be a good friend and want to help other people. And so myself and all the teachers and staff have noticed that about you, that you're a caring person and a good friend and that you've tried so hard this year to do the right thing. And so all of us unanimously

wanted to pick you to be our Turnaround Award winner. Congratulations. >> [applause] >> Syracuse Elementary. I'm proud to introduce Liam Lease. I'll try not to cry, but if I do, just punch me out. All right. So, um I met Liam last year, of course, my first year at Syracuse and um we got to know each other really well. This year, not Why don't I hardly see you at all for some reason? Um so when I was reflecting back about that, I just really I thought about what a positive attitude you have. And I decided to write three words about you this year. Calm, encouraging, and reflective. Very welcome. And I also asked Ms. Coverstone, her three words were compassionate, intentional, and determined. Do you believe all of those things? >> Oh, yes, ma'am. >> Wonderful.

I asked Liam what he thought about the award, and he I'm just >> going to be honest. >> Okay. He said, "I just I kind of wish I wasn't getting it because last year I had a pretty crap year." And um Liam, you went through a challenging year. But because of all those traits that you have, you made it through. And I want you to know that that's kind of how life is. It's a life lesson. >> [clears throat] >> You're going to have a crap day, and you're going to use that determination, and your calm, to get through it on the other side. Okay? You got it. >> I love you. >> [applause] [applause] >> Middle school. >> Hello everyone. We at Wall Was See Middle School have chosen Kyra Williams to be our

Turnaround Award winner. This is my first year, and so for me, my experience of Kyra has always been a pretty amazing kid. One of the first encouraging notes I got from a student this year actually came from Kyra um to tell us that she's noticing the changes, and she's excited, and she was very supportive of a new principal in her building, and I thought that was pretty wonderful and wow, this is what Owasso middle school kids are like. I'm so excited for her to go to high school. The sky's the limit for her. And then in talking with teachers and hearing more of the stories of all of her students, I found out a lot more about Kyra's journey. And so I've brought Mrs. Bontrager with me and she's going to share a little bit

of the story of Kyra and how Kyra fits perfectly with the Turnaround Award. So, Mrs. Bontrager. >> All right, I'll try not to cry. I'll do my best. Um, so I had Kyra last year in seventh grade. Um, school wasn't it really her favorite place to be. Um, but I got her got to know her better and [clears throat] she came to understand that just life and school haven't always been the best things for her. Um, but through it all like in math class, I had her in math, um, she had a heart of gold and she just wanted to do her best and she wanted to get her work done no matter how hard it how hard it was or however her day went. Um, and when she knows that someone cared and she

just showed up and she'd always give her best. Um, I've seen Kyra over the past 3 years. We've talked about sixth grade and now she's an eighth grader. She has just grown tremendously maturity, um, her determination, her resilience and her willingness to keep trying even when things are tough, um, have been incredible to watch. Um, she has made so much progress not just academically, but as a person who believes, um, more in herself and her ability to succeed. She's so deserving of this award, uh, cuz it just represents her hard work, her growth and her strength, her strength she has shown along the way. I couldn't be more proud of her and everything she has accomplished and that's why she's our award. >> [applause] [applause] >> All right, high school. >> Well, good evening. Congratulations,

guys. >> Um Well, let's see. High school, our Turnaround Award recipient is Colin Fiddiki. So, this is probably the first year in my 7 years as principal where I haven't had like multiple conversations in my office with the Turnaround Award winner cuz typically the the student who's won this has had some behavioral issues, especially early on in high school. And so, like at some point Mr. Perch says, "Can you help me out?" And so, then I like to build that relationship and um and get to know the student. And then by the time they get to that senior year and they've turned it around, like I I know it. I've seen it. I've kind of been part of it. I felt it. But it's totally different with Colin. Um Colin's struggles early on in high

school weren't behavioral. They were just um as Mr. Snyder so eloquent eloquently put it, um sometimes things happen to us in our lives that are totally out of our control and they happen to us and they can we can allow that to allow that to beat us up. Um which that happened to Colin early on in his high school career. Um things that were kind of out of his control that just beat him up some. And so, his soph- freshman year was not great. Sophomore year was well, a lot of D's. Um some F's, right? And so, Mrs. Puckett, um guidance counselor, when I had said this to the guidance counselor, said, "Hey, who are you guys thinking for our Turnaround Award winner this year?" They said a few names and like I had to

look up like Okay, what's the story on Colin? I mean, what I see is how the kid's got like straight A's or all A's and B's. Um kind of what um Mrs. Antanello was just saying. It's like, "Wait, the dude's got all A's and B's. Last year as a junior, he had all all A's and some B's." But then I heard the story and then sophomore year I see all the D's. I was like, "Wait a minute. This kid said after his sophomore year, like, "I want to change. I want to be different." And I And so then he actually took precalculus in summer school so that, right? So that he could take calculus this year. And now, and I don't If you guys want to ask questions, I don't know, but now he is

going to Purdue to study engineering. Like >> [applause] >> Um So it's It's pretty awesome uh to have a kid who he's just an awesome kid. A lot of kids going through something like that in their life, we can see it We see that come out in behaviors and the way that they conduct themselves, and often times they're making poor choices that we we see at school. And just to know that we have a student who who went through that maybe he's done stuff, I don't know. Maybe he's made some poor choices we don't know about, but it never to the point where his behaviors came out at school outside of just not being focused academically, maybe. Um And so it's just uh and personally um I don't know. Guys, actually I have chills right

now talking about him. So I'm proud of you, dude. Congratulations, man. Fire away. He's all yours. >> [applause] >> Why don't you guys make a semicircle in front of the board and we'll take a picture of all of you, and then you can shake hands with the board when you're done. But why don't you go Make it We'll make a circle over here. Okay, yeah, go ahead. Yeah, shake hands with the board now. That's great. Congratulations. Good job. >> You do? You have it? >> Why not? >> [laughter] >> Do Do you want to say something? >> Oh, hey, great. Okay. >> You know what? This young lady would like to say a few words. >> It's true that I struggled in my school. It's true, but sometimes I got better at it and I

just got better every single day, but I still struggled. I still try my best and treated everyone right. Just like our life goals spread pledge, I mean. And it was really hard and I really wish others would treat other people right, but I can't make people do what I want. >> You can only control yourself, right? Good job. >> Thank you so much. >> Oh. Aw. >> [laughter] >> Families of award winners and other students here welcome to leave. We know that students need to get home and do their homework, right? So, you know. That's fine. But, thanks for coming everybody. Couple of the things that we have some donations we'd like to recognize. Wawasee High School Academic Hall of Fame received $700 from All Points Media, the Kiwanis Club of Lakeland Kiwanis Club of

Wawasee, and the Culver Family Foundation. Titus Funeral Home and Earthwise Waste Removal donated $590 towards Wawasee High School Teacher Appreciation. Wawasee Baseball received $500 from Smart Cabinetry. Wawasee High School Athletics received a $9,844.63 donation from Bert and Blew Dixon, Sutton and Bloom LLP for the wrestling program. DECA received a total of $3,875 from Jim and Kathleen Gillette, Sutton Realty, Clayton Garden Center, and the Carrenstro Family Foundation. Wawasee FFA received award sponsor donations totaling $1,325 from Joseph and Myra Sands, Lakeview Farms, Randy and Aldona Warren, and Slip Precision Ag, Arlen and Shirley Bobek, and CTB. Also, thank you to Harvest Coffee and Market for their $20,000 donation to Wawasee Community Schools. This money is earmarked for the Milford Collaborative Park. We thank these groups for their donations and the support of the students and the school

district. So, thank you. >> Okay. I'm going to need a Do I have a motion to approve the good news items as presented? Have a second? >> Second. >> All those in favor of approving signify by saying I. >> I. >> Opposed, nay. Motion Carries. We are on to Patreon comments. Sorry, I lost my place there. All right, we're Patreon comments. >> [clears throat] >> Good evening. Hershey, I'm just kind of want to add on to the good news. Recently, we just had our building trades banquet to honor the students of our our program and I want to make sure that we make mention of that. This is one of the largest crowds that we had in many years. Don, you were you were there. Appreciate you coming in and and I welcome any anybody

from the board of administration to come. We get a bunch of food and listen to the stories of the students that that come up. But, it was it was a fantastic banquet. Big C Lumber did some sponsorship. They got some clothes for the kids, work clothes that has our new emblem on it. We had some door prizes. They weren't little door prizes. They were three, four hundred dollar door prizes, too. So, the community is supporting this. So, it was it was fantastic to see that. One of the other items that we do every year at this banquet is we hand out our scholarship and our scholarship is funded through the program. Nothing comes from the school. We have a percentage that comes that we add to the build itself and we were able to give

away $2,500 to Addison Hatfield. And so, that works out great and it's open to all the students on that. If they're going to go to college, it goes towards their tuition. If they're going to go right into the field, we let them buy tools to to get started. So, they they have tools. Anytime you go to work, you got to you got to provide your tools. So, it worked out great. He's going to go into the HVAC um world. So, that's going to be uh a high-tech job for him. He's He's He's going to do fantastic. So, that was that was great. Uh Zade Rollston was our outstanding student award, too. To get that to get picked out of amongst all those kids, that's that says a lot of the dedication that he put towards

that. So, um we were able to recognize him as well and all the hard work. We do have an open house that everyone is welcome to come out to. It's on May 28th from 3:00 to 6:00. Uh it's uh 12111 North Hamel Court. Basically, it's out in the Whitetail Run addition off of 300. >> Say that again. >> Uh 12111 North Hamel Court. It's a Milford address, but right off of 300 in the Whitetail addition. Just pull in down there. So, that's May 28th from 3:00 to 6:00. So, I encourage everyone to come out and and see what these students were able to do. I mean, they they took a pile of material and a hole and put a house in it. I mean, what else can you say? I mean, it's it's it's fantastic.

So, um the other thing I want to recognize this year, we had uh uh our new instructor. And this will be Ed Waltz's last year. He's been here since 1993. He took a brief uh retirement for about 5-6 years and uh we were able to talk him into come back and help rebuild the program. We're able to get uh Josh Gunkel in as our new instructor and Ed worked with Josh to uh show him the world ropes. Josh is doing fantastic. We're excited. He's got He's got big shoes to fill uh with Ed leaving, but Ed's been here a long time. Long time. So, we owe a a debt of gratitude to him and especially for coming back. So, we're going to try and talk him into He's on our advisory board. But uh full

circle on that we with our banquet, you know, the the FAA did the uh um the plants in the centerpieces. So, you know, we we we're trying to keep everything into the CTE program there. But uh next year welcome everybody. I want to encourage you guys to go to the uh open house, but I just kind of wanted to add that to the good news. So. >> Thank you. >> Appreciate it. >> Full circle, too. It's kind of interesting full circle. Um Ed's kind of stepping back. >> Mhm. >> But he has Josh, right? >> Correct. So, Josh >> a student >> Yes. >> of his in building trades. >> Absolutely. I Ed Ed was my instructor, too. So, it's uh I've I've been uh been part of the board for 25 years now. And

uh so, it's uh it's been it's been great. But uh yeah, Josh was a a couple years under me and one year under me and now he's taking over the program. So, it it's exciting to see see what it is. So, but uh >> You're trying to get him to stay at on the advisory board? >> I would hope so. I would hope so. There's there's a lot of knowledge that sits there. >> Sure. >> Yep. So, but no, it was it was fantastic. So, I encourage everybody to come out. >> Thanks, Ed. >> Thanks. >> Anything else? Okay. All right. I'm moving on. I have to put my glasses on. Okay, we are into reports. So, we are next up is our learning report. Dr. Wilfong, sorry. >> Well, thank you very much. Uh

board um I'm um we are partnering with Ball State University to participate in their teacher residency program, uh which is a more immersive year-long approach to preparing future teachers. Uh the full memo is in your board packet and it was also in uh for the work session. Uh I learn uh grades three through eight finished last week much to the celebration of our students and teachers. Uh, due to the standard setting requirements at the state level, access to Ilearn assessment scores for ELA and math will will be delayed until August. Um, Ilearn and uh, biology uh, and US government uh, which happen at the high school are uh, continuing this week and will finish up by Friday. And just in time to start Iread three retakes for grades uh, two and three. So, those start

this week. Um, any student who uh, did not pass in grade three has uh, two more opportunities to pass. Uh, one um, after some uh, intensive remediation that happened um, during the first uh, third grade test. And then one after the summer school session. Uh, and grades two, they'll have one more opportunity to uh, retake the Iread three in second grade. Uh, the summer learning lab which is uh, replacing our summer school. Uh, that's the partnership with the Boys and Girls Club. Uh, they current we currently have a very strong enrollment. Uh, registrations are still open uh, until this Friday but space is limited. We currently have 81 students enrolled and we have space for 90. The exciting part uh, of this is that um, there is going to be a full day program. So,

students will um, will have transportation provided in the morning. Uh, there will be the morning summer learning lab session where they'll do math and ELA. And then uh, they can either be picked up by their parents or stay for the afternoon where they do more club like activities, games, enrichment activities and then the bus will transport them home in the afternoon. So, we're really excited to provide that for service for many of our our parents. And that is my board learning report for this evening. >> Thank you. >> Can I say something? >> Yeah. >> I read everything that you sent us. So, that's what happens when you're the newbie. Thank you to Mr. Snyder back there because you're going to host the Ball State thing, right? It's at your school. Is that correct? >>

Yes. >> Sorry. >> I'm like, okay. Yeah. So, thank you for doing that. I think that's a really cool thing that you're doing for future educators. It is. >> Yep. >> Okay. Um we're on to the superintendent's report, Dr. Woodward. >> Yes, I don't really have anything for tonight other than to say I love the good news things that we do here at these board meetings, and it's just another uh testament to the great things happening in this district. So, I'll just say that again. Lots of good things happen here every day for kids. So, very good. >> Okay, next we have the group action items that were it was [clears throat] in our board packet, and we've all had a chance to review, and much of this was talked about at the work session.

Uh so, do I have a motion to approve the group action items as presented in the packet? >> I move to approve the group action items. >> I'll second. >> Uh all those in favor sign with sign signify by saying I. >> I. >> Opposed, nay. Motion carries. Now, we are on to additional action items, and the baton goes back to Dr. Woodward. >> Yes, uh Dr. Penrod's not here tonight. So, the financial report, uh if you can put Yeah, there you go. We did a review this at the work session. Um nothing's changed since then. Things look right on uh target for this time of year in terms of percentages of the funds that have been used and what is remaining and encumbered. So, I would advise or recommend that you approve it as

presented. >> [snorts] >> Since the work session, did any other questions arise? Okay. Then I need a motion to uh approve the financial report as presented. Do I have a motion? >> Yeah. >> Do I have a second? >> Yep, I second. >> All right, all signify their approval by saying I. >> I. >> Opposed, nay. Motion carries. >> This one? >> Consider Wait, yeah, consider MOU for MHT services. I am requesting approval for the MOU with Tony England for the MHT supervision services and consultation. This agreement formalizes the services that are being provided and ensures we have appropriate documentation in place for the supervision and consultation support connected to our mental health therapy services. This is especially important as we continue to support staff members who are working towards licensure and need appropriate supervision

hours while also ensuring that our MHTs have access to consistent professional consultation. Um I recommend the board approve this MOU with with Mr. England for MHT supervision services and consultation. >> All right, do I have a second? >> Second. >> All signify their approval by saying I. >> I. >> Opposed, nay. Motion carries. And we're [snorts] on to Neola updates. >> Yeah, so um reminder when they print it, it's attached to your board agenda, but it's this big. But, I didn't uh we did have it at the work session, too. And so, if there are no further clarifications needed, I would uh ask for your approval as presented. >> You've been working on this since day one. >> Yes, this is the second group, and there was a lot to get caught up on, but

[snorts] I'm feel good about it for the new superintendent who There will be a new packet coming from Neil on the regular update, but it'll be a small one, so. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Do I have a motion? >> I will >> To approve the new annual updates. >> Approve them. >> Okay. Do I have a second? >> read them. >> All right. >> Yes. >> I did. >> Yes, I bet you did. I believe you. >> I'm new and you're new on the board. >> I believe you. >> Do I have a second? >> Second. >> All right. All those approved by signify their approval by saying I. >> I. >> Opposed, nay. Motion carries on the annual updates. >> Just a reminder that those will be found on the website then. All

the board policies as they're approved get transferred to the school website. So, anybody who wants to look them up, feel free. The next item is asking for your approval of the position of 6-12 assistant athletic director. At the work session again, we went through all the rationale when we put why we posted it when we posted it and about finances and the responsibilities of the position and the interviewing process and all of that, so. Uh I would ask for your um approval as presented. >> Yeah, I I just had a question on that. >> Yeah. >> Can you clarify um cuz it's an administrative position, correct? >> Right. >> And it's not a certified teacher. Correct? >> No, it's a certified like administrative positions are considered uh certified. Also, but yes, it's an administrative position.

>> Um but the pay would be on the administrative side? >> Right. >> What's the pros of that other than >> I think because of the intense supervision that the person has to do and they're in charge of like crowds sometimes. So I think it's helpful to have a background in school law and have studied, you know, those things that can occur and to be knowledgeable when you're supervising a large group of people. I guess I would also just add then the hours are, you know, there's a lot of extra hours and when you're an administrator you're just expected to work all the hours. It's just part of the the job, I guess. So you know, athletic events can go on into overtimes and extra innings and they're on weekends, they're over holiday breaks. There

There's just a lot of those extra things. So I guess for those reasons in my past it's always been an administrative position. >> Okay. Thank you. Any other questions? Okay. Uh I need a motion to consider assistant athletic director 6 through 12 position. Do we have a motion? >> I'll make a motion. >> I have a second? >> Second. >> All right. All those signify All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. >> All those nay. Motion carries. >> [snorts] >> Uh that >> Thank you. The next item is um permission for the Wawasee Performing Arts Center task group that's been meeting um to begin the 501c3 formation process. As you'll recall they were at the work session and did a presentation, had a nice uh PowerPoint that was attached to the work

session agenda um with their thoughts and um dreams for the future. And so there are many details to still be worked out and our school attorney is looking at one of the first documents that we've received from them. So but this is just um kind of approval to get it started uh for so that they know that the board is supportive of this kind of process. So, I'd ask for your approval of that to begin. >> Questions? This is basically just approval to begin the process. >> Yeah, and probably we don't even really have to have this as an action item, but I think it strengthens it for their group. Um, they've applied for a larger grant, as you know, and so I think it strengthens it to have this approval from you as a

board. >> Yeah, I think I mean, we don't they don't need us to approve the formation of a 501c3, but I think it helps their story to know that the schools were were connected on this. >> Right. I think so, too. Right. That's accurate. >> It was presented very well. >> Yes, they did a great job. Yeah. >> Okay. We are supportive. I just Okay. Do I have a motion to I don't like the word permission cuz you guys can do whatever you want, but the uh school >> We support it. >> So, we're making a motion to support it. >> Support permission of the of the >> That's a good way to put it in there. >> Well, a CPAC task group to begin 501c3 formation process. Do you have a motion? >> Then

I'll motion. >> Do I have a second? >> Second. >> All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. >> Those nay? Motion carries. >> All right, the next one is the gift card resolution for the turnaround award winners. It was in your packet. Um, we just have to [clears throat] have your approval uh for the State Board of Accounts so we can give them those awards. >> Have a question about that. >> Yeah, go ahead. >> Is it for any dollar amount for a gift card? >> Yes, it is. It's for any Yeah, it is. >> What happened? Somebody did something very bad. >> Uh you can imagine. That's exactly right. Yeah. >> A lot of $5. >> Yeah. No, I've seen um resolutions that have long list of $5, you know, gift

cards they're getting for people. >> Okay. Uh do I have a motion to for gift card resolution for the turnaround award winners? Do you have a motion to approve? >> I make motion. >> I have a second. >> Second. >> All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. >> Opposed nay. Motion carries. >> Thank you for that. The students were great, weren't they? That was awesome. The last item I think Mr. Wirebaugh and Mr. Drum are here. Maybe Mr. Drum is doing this just to talk about it new uh Transfinder transportation software. Yeah, come on up in case you have questions to the podium. So, we already use My understanding is we already use this software, but I think this is an upgrade. >> We did. This is an upgraded version of it.

It was in place before I came. >> Okay. >> And then they moved to uh Easy Routing. >> Okay. >> So, I'm just here for the the motion to move forward in switching the software program to a more friendly use software. Um I think you guys have all the prices and everything. >> We didn't have this in time for the work session. That's why I asked them to come in case you had more questions about that. >> I mean, what what made us switch and switch back? I mean, I'm just just a little curious. >> So, it's an upgraded version from what they had prior to me coming here. Easy Routing is what I started with. The uh the software is it it is more user-friendly. It communicates better with Skyward that we already use

now. Um it's just more more efficient. Uh the routing as far as like you don't do four steps just to put a kid on the bus. And then with the whole Skyward communication, it's uh we have 3 days usually before it actually comes in from Skyward over to our routing software. By that point we've already heard from a parent like three or four times, "Hey, can I get my kid on this bus?" So, we're hoping to just streamline that process a A more. >> So, with this software, is it more like an hour it dumps back and forth between them, do you know? >> Nightly. Yep. Okay. >> In terms of cost, how does it compare I mean >> The I think the contract for Easy Routing was like 14,000 a year. >> This is

six. >> This one is 6,600. >> Oh, okay. >> The initial startup cost is 16,740. But that allows them to set up the routes that we have [snorts] now. And then it also um sets up our GIS mapping uh with Kosciusko County, all the data conversion, and um the training and hosting of software. >> So, going forward, it's the 6,600. >> Yes. >> Okay, that's pretty Okay. >> And Transfinder is a very >> well-established transportation software. >> Okay. [snorts] Any other questions, guys? Uh do you have a motion to consider Transfinder contract as a transportation software? Do you have a motion to approve? >> I'll make a motion. >> And do I have a second? >> I'll second it. >> All those in favor signify by saying aye. >> Aye. >> Opposed, nay. Motion carries.

>> I think the last thing is the out-of-town trip on your agenda for Milford students. So, teachers, Mrs. Van Lyken and Miss Seizlo, are requesting permission to travel to Dearborn, Michigan, on May 22nd. This is an annual trip for the fifth graders, and they will visit Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. So, we'd ask for your approval for that. >> Okay. Do we have a motion? Do we have a second? >> I'll second it. >> All those in favor signify by saying aye. >> Aye. Opposed, nay. Motion carries. Um now we're on the other items. I don't think we have any. We're good. All right. I need a motion for adjournment. I have a second? All right, all those signify All those in favor signify by saying aye. >> Aye. >> Opposed, nay? Motion carries.

Thank you, everybody.
