both students are recognized and then i'll take a picture and i'll send it to parents tomorrow congratulations hello i'm amber taggart i'm the principal of the elementary school i think it's odd i just think i need to be loud which i can definitely handle sam is a joyful and friendly kid we can count on him to be a listener a great helper and to include others we are so grateful for his kind and gentle nature he puts a smile on many faces each and every day he has the best smiling eyes too with this mask on everybody knows when sam is smiling we love it all right so let's celebrate sam zoe come on up all right zoe is always the first one to jump up and help another student no matter the size of

the problem or the person needing the assistance she recently extended her generosity beyond just helping in actions and donated some of her personal savings for others zoe's embedded zoe embodies what it means to be a member of a classroom community instead of just a student in the room she always looks how to help let's celebrate zoey good idea i love it all right thank you so much good evening everyone i'm margaret sarros the principal at the intermediate school and i'd like to first invite jillian hannah to come forward jillian is an exemplary student and a friend to all she has straight a's and an and is an accomplished reader jillian has persisted this year to master her multiplication facts and always puts in an extra effort to fix mistakes on assignments in order to push

herself academically her polite behavior and sweet nature make her the perfect role model for her peers jillian loves science especially learning about space she is highly organized we know jillian will soar to new heights and i had an opportunity to see her today with a team for battle of the books and all she did was encourage her teammates and always gave her best effort so i'm really proud of you congratulations [Applause] addison polk please come up addison is new to our corporation this year addison has risen to each challenge that that entails addison's go-getter attitude continues to impress mrs koontz each day she loves that she isn't afraid to ask questions or communicate concerns she always gives a hundred percent effort and is friendly and helpful to her classmates and we're so proud to have

her at our school keep up the great work [Applause] well i was telling uh dr taggart how cute the little guys are the high school kids are cute too i'm ron schreiner the junior senior high school if you don't think they're cute you know it's going to be a long day so uh we have some kids here that like all of our principals could say there's so many kids we could nominate and multiple people could nominate the kids that come so really happy so we'll start with mia mia russell um and this one's a little bit unusual because mia you're nominated not by a teacher but by mrs courtney fitzsimmons who's our food services director and she would like to nominate mia who she just met like in the last two weeks and that is

also unusual but the the reason for nominating mia is because when the junior student council sponsored the iced coffees at breakfast which is a fundraiser she jokingly asked who wanted to come back and serve lunch since we were several employees short that day and mia jumped on the opportunity saying that she was in the culinary class fourth period fourth hour and we worked it out with mrs heim and sure enough she came and you worked two lunch periods um and uh mrs fitzsimmons was very impressed with her knowledge of food service um sanitation kindness to staff and willingness to help without hesitation so she's really grateful and all of us are for that opportunity to work with you and very personable and giving and thank you mia there you go thanks for that just saying

out here and next jt if you would come up mr jt downey you can go over here if you want and there there are lots jt was nominated by ms mowry uh one of our special ed teachers and there are so many great things to say about jt he is a role model for both other peer tutors in the special education student and the special education students in her classroom jt handles all situations with grace and maturity he eats lunch with the special ed students that he helps at least once a week and more often and is always down for whatever activity they are interested in so jt is a wonderful peer tutor this year and has done a great job of teaching lots of life skills like sportsmanship to the students and other things

and he's just proven himself to be a leader and a role model over the past two years of working in ms mowry's class so jt thank you very much thank you [Applause] okay so those of you who have come just to be recognized you are welcome to stay for the rest of the meeting but none of us will be offended if you take this opportunity to go about your evening so it's completely up to you and thank you to shelby johnson and all of our administrators who work so hard to put these awards together they are truly a bright spot uh in our meetings good job [Laughter] all right so we're going to move on now to communication from the audience current agenda items and we do not have anyone signed up for that this

evening so we'll move on to new business uh presentation by laura falk on diversity equity and inclusion thank you for the opportunity to provide you with a brief update as to what we've been can you hear me okay i'm just going to hold it look margaret thank you for the opportunity to provide you with a brief update as to what we've been working on over the past several months regarding inclusion diversity equity access and social justice before i proceed i would like to describe the various lenses i have used in this work namely that of an equity lens and a construction lens the equity lens is a must as it reminds me to be aware of my unconscious biases how others perceive these this work how others come into these spaces and how each other's

culture influences their lenses as well my construction lens has been with me ever since i was a child as my grandfather black man who owned his own construction business built many houses in and around lansing michigan we all learned about how important it was to have a house with good bones and if we ever found a problem we could never just patch it over and move on we were always taught to spend the time and effort to identify the concern figure out how to make it stronger and replace the broken parts with more durable materials and it's these two lenses that help me to know to be able to do this work we must first examine the foundation part of the support structure for this work is creating spaces and opportunities to build connections compassion

understanding and empathy this is the only way we can progress part of our support system is our community i've been working on developing strong relationships with the following community partners dr paul and purdue's college of education we were included in their most recent 100 thousand dollar grant award to develop their diversity at purdue literacy library we are currently working with various staff members from westside to come up with lists of various culturally relevant and rich resources that will be purchased with part of this grant ms darien thomas thompson sorry associate director of diversity initiatives with purdue's business opportunity program at cranert provides support and mentoring for black and latinx students at purdue in the crane management school of management she and i held an informational session for freshmen sophomores juniors and senior students where they

learned about the program its benefits and scholarships and had a chance to speak to a few westside grads who are currently enrolled in bop this was followed up with an informational session regarding the bo bright futures scholar program a one-week free summer camp for rising black and latinx students rosemary cheek wallthor director of diversity at ivy tech and i meet once a month with other diversity directors in the area to discuss future partnerships opportunities and ideas to work in this type of work that we are all in tsc lsc and westside were invited to take part in a working lunch with dr john gates and members of purdue's equity task force where we discuss their findings and recommendations and the many ways that purdue could help support our area students from our marginalized groups from

this has come new connections to create informational sessions regarding purdue's summer college for high school students as well as connections with dr john gates in the future peyton stovall from purdue's athletic department and i have discussed having their athletes come over and work with our athletes on how to manage microaggressions experienced on and off the field the next step in our foundational building process has been to build a more folk more focused equity teams starting internally i saw that each building has its own ecosystem of needs and we have to honor those needs as well as bring the buildings together to work as a collective unit so each building has a team of no more than 15 people these teachers represent grade levels specials essential life skills and special education we also have an equity

team of 11 sophomore junior and senior students from cultures ethnicities etc that are represented in the junior senior high school finally we have our administrative team as well as our parent equity group who will be meeting once our building level teams and administrative team have had a chance to work on various training and information gathering so we may have content to discuss and share with our students families finally we are working on equity training and the four pillars of deep diversity within these groups as this is vital to ensure that we have those supports in place before we move on to the why the how and the what in the next few months we will be working on the following leadership practices with each of our groups fostering communities of practice understanding the emotions of

ourselves and others how our biases can cause prejudice without awareness the importance of our villages belonging drives human behavior how power is the dividing force and finally the cycle of socialization now i had a slide that showed the process of what we were doing and it was very small the school board does have that and i can show put that up on my website so that you will have access to it but um there's a general timeline it was very small in general to give you an idea of the process and i want to be clear to everyone who takes a look at the slide that this looks seamless every step will take time and tension and effort like the steps in the engineering design process this list will not necessarily always be in sequential

order what we have discovered is that sometimes we have to move backwards if we need if we need to in order to move forward if you would like to learn more about what i've been up to week to week i try to update our web my webpage on a weekly basis which you can find under the general west lafayette school corporation website under office of diversity initiative you can also subscribe to my twitter feed and instagram page where i share relevant information regarding this type of work thank you for your time and thank you for the opportunity to be part of this important work [Applause] does anyone have any questions for mrs phone question the reception at purdue and in your meetings there i mean i know that they've made a pretty important initiative as

well how's that how do you feel about that i've actually been able to connect peyton from the athletic department with dr powell over at college of education so that their athletes can read through the read-alouds if you look at app produce purdue diversity at purdue.com they have a series of by content either race ethnicity culture social and justice action they have books that are underneath all of those headings in that you can also find videos of um area and local businessmen our own miss rosa is one who is featured as reading aloud a book and what they do is you can play that to for your students they can they have um guiding questions and then with that the college of education teacher cadets have been writing lesson plans that are associated with our indiana

standards so peyton is now having some of our um well-known athletes doing the read-alouds so that's been a nice connection in addition to that i've been working with the black cultural society center um the latina cultural center it's just been growing as we meet i have the opportunity to meet more and more people so the the partnerships i feel that we are working on as a collective are just creating that net for our students do you um can you maybe touch on what's happening with our professional development day coming up right now we are working with um dr aziz over at uh she's located in indianapolis and her company's name is virtuoso education consulting right now what we are really going to be looking at is what i was talking about referring to in the

in the presentation which is the um we have to start with our leaders so we're going to be working at development with the staff in terms of again working not only with our unconscious biases and information about microaggressions we will also be working with learning about the culture of our students in your classroom and really not only learning about that top level of the iceberg that we talk about with culture but the deeper levels that are underneath that children sometimes as well as adults sometimes don't reveal and it's not outward so until we can get that work we really want to understand that and have a good meaning because if we just keep producing things and keep doing things the way we are without really looking internally as well as at our students we will

not be able to really make progress in this area a couple of times i there are a lot of very helpful information thank you so much for putting them together another thing i like to give you feedback is my third grader and a sixth grader had your classes and you kind of bring some talks to their classrooms and not sure how the routine goes like you do it a week a class by class but anyway they both love your classes and i think you use the language and the examples that they can understand to you know to learn something for example or generalize and for everyone else it wasn't in my presentation because i know it was in a time constraint i could talk forever on this topic but um we went i developed kind

of guidance lessons like our counselors do and we i was able to go into all all of our pretty much 98 of our k through 6 classes and from kindergarten through third grade we all read a book called the judgmental flower and it really dealt with just not being judgey but being curious when i really appreciated it was that the elementary school staff helped teach that lesson too and it was a whole effort because they thought of things that they could bring out in the lesson as well while i was teaching it and so that has just made my content reach richer so that i can do it in the future and then fourth through sixth grade we talked about the various stereotypes that we were knowledge about when we were kids and they were

shocked when i heard that boys were better athletes and the girls they were offended and then also that boys were better at math than girls they were like no everybody was like absolutely not and i was just telling them that the idea of prejudgments moved to stereotypes which moves to discrimination which moves to policy and that's dangerous that's a dangerous president so having those conversations were interesting and very revealing and helpful because we talked about those differences in foods that people bring and instead of approaching it with an eu they could approach it oh that's cool what what is that so they were able to see that some of their their fellow classmates were affected by that and so hopefully that is helping bring that conversation into it as well so thank you i heard

from somebody about some incidences they didn't feel comfortable i wonder in that situation and whether they should the students so we are talking with the students too to make sure is this what i i'm assuming that if someone has an issue or question and they don't feel come is that what you were asking okay so we are talking with the students that's one of the things that our that our board wanted us to look at is forming a student advocacy group where we could have those conversations if students don't feel comfortable going to adults again that's a product that's going to that's our what and will be in the future because we have to train our students find the program to help that and then develop hopefully an intake form where we can have an

anonymous kind of intake and then if they wish to be contacted by a student or a staff member they can then put their email or phone or contact information we can follow up with them thank you okay so we'll move ahead on the agenda uh our coven 19 return to in-person learning and we're going to look at an updated plan tonight dr greiner yes so we i included we included in the board packet the recommendation for the board to adopt uh regarding revisions to the return to in-person plan the kobe committee met on february 2nd to discuss the recent indiana department of health recommendations and the most recent webex was on january 27th and those webex's are typically bi-weekly sometimes weekly but mostly lately by bi-weekly and the recommend latest recommendations were to change return

date for cobit positive from 10 to 5 days members of the recent district coveted meeting included corporation doctors our building administrators our corporation nurses the district administrators and our board representatives as well we discussed current numbers and recognized a decline and we talked with the doctors regarding their perspective uh with regard to whether or not what we felt like we saw with declining numbers is that what they were seeing based on what they're studying and so forth and the doctors suggested also that the school's transition trends trends transmission remains minimal and that really a classroom spread appears to be zero which we would expect based on the fact that we are universally masked the national state district you see declines at each level and the doctors did suggest that we continue they continue to monitor

this to make sure there are other variants that come out updates from the principles we ask them what's working and what is challenging the main thing that we heard from principals was more at the elementary level with regard to mask fitting for the younger students and then we asked the doctors do you have concern based on these recommendations from the indiana department of health and they expressed they do not have concern at this time they think that it's logical that we would move forward with this going down to five days but they also said they would continue to monitor and that when we meet we would continue to discuss whether or not what we are doing is working if the board were to approve this plan revised plan today so based on input from all

in the meeting coupled with the recommendation of our medical professionals and consistent with the indiana department of health which was from the presentation on the 27th of january the recommendations are to change the staff return from covet positive from 10 days to 5 days change the student return from covid positive from 10 days to 5 days doctors and nurses felt it best that we implement this moving forward once approved and not work backward because the plan is not approved yet and so therefore you would look at moving forward so anyone currently under quarantine they would remain the course stay the course and then moving forward if we are to quarantine students and or staff then they would come back on day five if they are asymptomatic we'll monitor the data of course and adjust if

necessary and that is the advisement of our doctors and they will watch closely with us and for us and our nurses so it's my recommendation of course the board will have discussion uh that we the board approved the adjustments made in the return to in-person plan i'd like to add one other piece and that is the nurses and doctors actually took what we discussed we were going to put in place and they worked and tweaked that plan some language in that and then sent back to us so it truly is a collaborative effort and we're very comfortable with that but we do have dr biancoli here in the audience too uh if the board has questions okay so we'll get a motion on the table first approval move by mr marley second second by mr

shot okay i'm sure we have discussion any questions um go ahead dr yin thank you dr yeah is occurred this time the school uh restrained the discretion of determination for teen time based on individuals face reveal or masculine effectiveness exposure intensity and a situation so it's a kind of a general i wonder whether there's any specific guideline for the family that say what are there any like preferred masks oh and what will be considered as intense exposure what kind of situation you know people will have shorter quarantine time yes things like that i just give the public some guidelines so people can avoid those situations so they are less likely to have a longer quarantined time absolutely great question we have dr b who's going to respond for us thank you doctor doctor maybe um

so yeah so the the wording of that it's a lot important but i think the biggest thing about this is i think five days will work if we allow our nurses to still have some discretion because obviously the standard 24 hours fever-free that is still part of the return i don't want a febrile kid coming to school because they're probably still quite contagious it also depends on the kids symptoms so if i have a kid that is asymptomatic but is positive and we know that because they were tested because mom was positive they're asymptomatic i think likelihood with them wearing a mask of them spreading it to somebody else is pretty low if i have a kid that is still coughing a ton and hacking i think the likelihood of them spreading virus particles is

probably a lot higher so so i think part of it is depending on the nurse's discretion and i think the nurses and the teachers will pick up on those kids that are still quite symptomatic um i think the part about the mass efficacy really the big thing is a well-fitting mask so and a mask that a child will wear so if you have a mask that is it's an n95 and it's perfect but you have massive gaps like like i saw in some of the olympians yesterday um probably not going to be super effective or if the cable will not wear it because it's uncomfortable probably not going to be effective so really i think that is the big thing um some of the contacts at home will also depend too so if you have

a positive two-year-old that will not wear a mask at home and big sis is still continuing to be exposed i think those are the type of things that we're trying to have the nurses um give them some leeway to kind of tease that out and they've been doing a fabulous job for us so far they really have contacted every family and figured out okay who's positive when have they been exposed when have they been quarantined and so they are still kind of teasing that out and figuring out when should your five days start but i think also again if we want to allow the whole point of five days is we want these kids back in school do we know that they learn better here but we also want to protect everybody else and make

sure we're not spreading it so i think if we have those kids that are we feel we probably should not be here we want to make sure that the nurses and the schools have that discretion to send them home also for the kid that just doesn't feel better at five days we want them to have that discretion as well that if they if you're not feeling good i always tell people you're not going to learn well if you can't you can't stay awake at school and you're feeling cruddy so um so i think those are kind of we don't want it to be a hard fast the only question i had is why if we had a student that was positive two days ago is there any way we can look at a five-day return

if they're asymptomatic because we're i just heard that we're we're staying with 10 days for any student that was positive before now i think i think the big thing with that is not we're trying to we know everybody is doing so much work right now with contact tracing and calling people so i think we were trying to spare the nurses and the administrators that time and effort of contacting all those people that are in quarantine so it's just easier to have a start set date and say going forward we're changing it but we're not going to call the i don't know how many kids are currently in quarantine or isolation so i think it's mostly a time saver because they're already doing so much work that's the reason i ask you that i want to

make sure that everyone understands why we can't or we're not looking you know we're not changing the 10-day right before today correct and we had talked about that last week and we said well one we don't have border purple so we can't say at this point going forward but starting today if it is approved we we would go forward i mean they checked in with the nurses first thing is is that still preferred is there a way that we should communicate that is that i think especially for some that yeah i believe that was what the nurses felt would be most appropriate in yeah so i don't think that's a medical decision i think i think it'd be a tough one i think technically it's our policy so i mean very it could be our

policy so i think if everybody wants to do that i think it might open floodgates a little bit though so that i think is a real administrative decision i think it's important too to recognize that that does also open up error when you're trying to process that many students through in a period of time and our nurses are already processing people who are newly ill and testing positive and then communicating and doing everything they're required to report legally to the department of health which is substantial so i i think i mean we're probably talking about for many of our students very few days that would be additional i understand and really appreciate the students desire and the parents desire to have their children returned but i am concerned about the burden that places on our

medical personnel and their ability to do their jobs well for children who are newly ill those are my two cents i don't do dr energy you have an opinion on this that's basically exactly what the committee discussed is that we wanted to make sure our nurses were free to continue to focus on what they had to focus on moving forward because again the idoh stresses that you can lighten up these guidelines to the point of five days you can never lessen but you can always go longer so we the board could decide when we're done talking today that we're going to stick with the 10-day and so we just want to make sure that there's not error where we want very guidelines too because we're over then we're focusing on backwards and forwards and we

really need to be focusing on making sure that we're making those sound choices moving forward did i say that fairly based on what the discussion was at the medical okay thank you and i know the nurses have been calling during our snow days and trying to keep keep that there's a lot on their point so i would support that as well and it was um dr ian that's a great question and all of you that have asked that because actually mrs whitt had asked the question earlier too um it's a day or two and so it it really makes sure that we're focusing on the good health moving forward as well so and because that's kind of the dialogue i mean they had healthy dialogue administrators nurses and the doctors and they kind of determined

that was probably the safest best way to go uh if the board again we didn't want to be presumptuous either if the board votes tonight to approve that plan how many students are currently quarantined i don't have the numbers today i can get those and give those to you but um i can tell you that in the report that we did i remember wednesday they were like a third of what they were two weeks prior so it actually brought this up a couple weeks ago and looking at the numbers locally i believe the idoh had said we could go to five days but we just knew the local numbers were so high and so many kids out as it was that with omicron like raging we just really didn't want to so i do believe

over that two-week span we're following the statewide trends and numbers significantly dropped okay on 114 161 on 121 these are quarantines and then it went down okay i don't have the latest i'm sorry there was one other way that even went down lower so you can see that we truly saw the decline and recognize that as and then of course our doctors and nurses have been following that nationwide county-wide and so forth and see the same thing so thank you thank you are there any other questions any comments everybody prepared for a vote on this thank you dr mancha thank you um so we'll move ahead to a vote all those in favor of approving the return to in-person learning adjustments to plan please say hi any opposed hearing none that motion carries we're going

to move ahead to the coven 19 sick bank and dr greiner moving right along with cove issues correct so we had a discussion the corporation discussion meeting on january 20th and i was uh afforded the opportunity to attend that it was a great meeting i really appreciate that i was invited to attend um one of the items that we discussed was pertaining to covet specific to sick days and the teachers wanted to know is there an opportunity for covert relief related to sick days and so after healthy discussion and collaborative discussion we determined that we were going to make the following recommendation um a lot 250 days for a covet relief sick bank open uh it's open to both teachers and support staff as in that day uh it can be as up until we

run out of days to recuperate some of those days that teachers have lost due to quarantine and or staff um include the opportunity for this to be retroactive with correct um i lost my word documentation thank you and then individuals can request up to three days after they've used two of their own days and then once the bank is depleted uh it's it's gone it's no longer available so we would put those 250 days in we would use esser funds uh to uh util the sr funds would be utilized to cover uh the cost of this relief bank and we've provided in your packet as you know policy or guidelines that we would follow so it's my recommendation that the board accept this proposal um we're gonna move uh motion for approval move by mrs

austin second by dr springer discussion any questions comments [Music] and you know it's kind of out of their own control in that case i wonder whether we will consider to give people a longer time to recover because currently we have in fact three vice versa yes so you you i think you're asking why the three days is it possible to even do additional days i wonder what if people need a longer time to recover then what will they do so i believe the sick bank would probably apply to in some situations the regular sick bank if they run out of sick days certified staff yeah applied to the sick bank for the teachers yes we don't have a sick bank for another staff i think the thought here why would we only have a limited

number of days and be fair to everybody it was easier to say everybody could get a maximum of the three days to give some relief to everybody and we help every smaller chance to help everyone yeah is that does that answer i want to make sure i'm answering your question [Music] so they can still use their sick days and then if they run out of space we have some employees that have requested an unpaid leave and so those opportunities would still be there but this is a way to give some relief to everyone after we kind of collaboratively discussed the challenge okay thanks thank you are there any other questions comments all right all those in favor all right any opposed hearing none that motion carries we will move on to online summer school and

mr olehil today we're asking the board's approval for the 2022 summer school program last year we had a social studies summer school pilot program that was successful we offered it through canvas using our own west lockheed instructors and we are proposing to offer that program again this year continuing it as a pilot program and also to continue our use for indiana online academy and to renew our agreement with them for other summer school classes and or those social studies classes that don't that aren't qualified don't make the threshold for the 15 minimum that you have to have for your own in-house program just a little background on this the summer school program has an allocation from the indiana department of education each year we have to submit our summer school plan including our estimated costs

by the first of april once all schools have submitted those estimated costs we get an estimated reimbursement amount sometime in may at the conclusion of summer school and once all schools have submitted their final cost report at that time we will learn how much we will be reimbursed for the cost last year we were reimbursed at a rate of 60 percent from the ido appropriation and because the sr3 provisions allow for summer school to be part of the learning laws component of that grant we're we are able to recuperate the remaining 40 in that way so we would uh ask the board to consider approving this social the social studies pilot program for 2022 and also indiana online academy for the remaining courses go get a motion please so moved moved by mr carpet second

by mrs austin discussion any questions about the fee and so basically kind of addressing it so it's okay then we got some three first right that's true but so then there's also a fee like a 50 dollar fee and students withdrawal after the course begins then for that and we open pay for that so students need to take some responsibility if they change their mind after the course starts right so in the paperwork that's going to go out to students very soon about summer school they will be informed that if they the fee you're referring to is a 50 fee if the student withdraws from the course after it begins that if they do that that they're going to be assessed that fee by the school corporation so that would be the responsibility of the

student if they withdraw from the course otherwise the course fees uh are again we follow this process of submitting our costs to the doe getting reimbursed a certain percentage there's no other fee to the students okay tester to re rephrase you said if students withdraw after they register and after the course started they have to pay them right because the con the agreement that we have with indiana online academy charges a 50 fee for withdrawing from the course after it begins but we will assess the student that fee if they do that what that's mean so we'll give them that we'll charge them the future okay thank you yeah thank you any other questions okay um take a vote all those in favor all right any opposed hearing none that motion carries we will move

on to school bus purchase and mr slo yeah on the school bus uh high-end purchase i'm going to recommend we table the reason is this port just well he's going to have at the end of the week and there's the weather and everything that hope didn't come in and as we looked at it today there's some questions i have on it i need to talk to doug caldwell a little bit more so i'm not comfortable making a recommendation so i'd ask that the board would table this any action on this for tonight okay do we vote on that do we vote on a table any opposed hearing none you table that motion until later date next in march back to bring it march okay all right we will move on to robotics short term plan

mr oldham yes actually i i'm going to turn the floor over to mr steve florence and mr brad thompson who many of us know for their long service in west lafayette schools mr florence is a teacher for many years mr thompson also has been here as a tech person and works with the athletics and and robotics teams they're here to tell us more about the robotics team uh how things have been going the last several years and and to propose some potential uses of happy hollow space for their program mr forbes tip well good evening i'll use my teacher so 32 of my 40 years of teaching work in the scholarship and i started providing so this is our 23rd year and it's been the most enlightening and enhancing and everything i could ever think

of for students because of the fact we do everything they learned in school we can bring together it's math it's communications it's everything the graphic designs all the momentum so in order to get into a lot of that you really need to season so what we're proposing right now is we rent space uh at the old cts building which is on the corner of jager and we've been there five years now because of the fact that we have out of our own any space that we have school will be so we've been thinking about being able to do that right now we have a game you're building a robot for right now kids are doing right now in our space that is the ceiling in our spaces our goal is eight foot six inches tall

all right so in order to play the game we need a little taller space so if you're proposing if you could for a short term between now and the end of april to use on the upside of this wall over here the old cafeteria there's an 11 foot ceiling in there on one part of it we'd like to be able to set up a practice in there and be able to use now it's not like something we would use 80 hours a week or anything like this it could just be a few hours during the week to be able to practice and be able to work with get the kids to do their practice their game and figure out what to do and i can get more into robotics and all that's going on but

we set our proposal i think you all have a copy of that and kind of explains a lot of things we do we my personal thing is this is probably the most effective perfect schools can ever do but i also have been doing it since a long time i've got every high school in this whole county doing it now i ran an instrument i've been a state director for five years the thing is what it does for kids important to me and where are they going to go what can they do and i without the help of other adults like brad and a few engineers from around the community here we will be able to do this i really love the fact that we right now talk about the high school program we actually do

programs from fourth grade through high school and we're also going to expand that a little bit more down to the westside elementary school eventually too but one thing is you're just not enough for me then theoretically i'm retired and my kids are live action this is what i do as so i think at this point again we're just looking for approval for the short-term plan to allow us to borrow the cafeteria space for a little bit and then again maybe some discussion around looking long-term getting us a place where we can be back in the schools having a better presence and connection and relationship because again we're all we're doing this for your kids this is a a school activity that we run for your kids so we want to make sure that we have

all the resources that we need to best serve as many of our kids as we possibly can so i guess at this point you're asking for a motion to approve the short-term usage of the cafeteria for your current game in this building yes so we'd ask for a motion from the board okay uh can i get a motion please move by mr marley second second by mrs austin um is there any other question anything we'd like to know we're just talking now about the first item which is the use of the cafeteria for this short term any questions anything you'd like to know you keep it's all about the experience then the robot okay so let's go ahead and take a vote on this one all those in favor all right any post hearing none

the short term plan for robotics here at happy hollow is approved so we'll move ahead to the long-term proposal don't sit down mr florence mr o'hall no i just wondered if you if you would like to share in any more detail um what what you envision uh perhaps give a little bit of explanation as to what space you might propose to use and how you might utilize it so again the plan hopefully we've all seen it had a chance to look at it but we are proposing that we kind of take over the cafeteria the kitchen and the art room across the hallway um that represents almost uh 100 of our current space which will be great as again we've got more support in the schools um with mr chris woodard at the high school

looking at pulling in some other staff at the intermediate school in elementary school to really help increase our presence at those buildings which are just going to keep our numbers going up and up and up which if we're going to do that we need more space what we have access to right now so the intent would be we'll set up the practice fields for our high school competition and our junior high program over here in the cafeteria and kitchen as well as space for our elementary lego teams to meet and then across the hall in the art room we where we set up our machine shop where our junior high and high school teams work on actually going and fabricating all of the parts for our robots okay um we any what questions we have

this is not a voting item we're just here to have a conversation does anybody have any questions for mr florence about the long-term proposal i haven't looked at the building at jaeger and cumberland in several years but when our company was looking for space we walked through there and it did not strike me as the optimal environment for children to be hanging out in for a variety of reasons is that still the case we needed a basement so we yeah we are kind of it's us and the building maintenance people are down in the basement so we're mostly kind of off on our own it's okay space it's not necessarily ideal but it has served us reasonably well for five years we're just looking for something a little bit better and better suited to what

we really need to run an effective program and say also maybe four or five years ago that steve and his group talked about challenges and being you know when this high school opportunity wasn't wasn't there anymore and i appreciate the fact that this has been a program that's been such a uh an important part of our our kids over the years and uh they've been patient as they can be i think at least in terms of even it's just very difficult and challenging to find a spotting five years ago we really couldn't do that the way that they wanted to so i think it's i think it certainly bears our consideration as we move forward to look at this but it is a it's a pretty legendary program here frame but it doesn't come see

do you need any uh like in some with any equipment any power upgrades for the department of choices faces baseball something and inside the pull umar there's already a 220 here and we need 220 to run a cnc driver that we have and uh we don't think we'll have to do is run one more leg of wire because ours is three-phase and that's all the different parts and uh that would be i try to talk to some biggest people and they thought that they could take care of that and we'd be willing to pay for possible things we also we talked about earlier about these electricity views we don't need that many hours but we still would like to be able to contribute and currently there's no custodial service in this building and i know

we have somebody who comes in last week and i also want to bring up the fact that every meeting one of i'm very big on safety about things being and uh you know it just break but i can't say enough about for it's enough if it wasn't for helping us financially we wouldn't be able to space out i don't want to spoil too much of what i'm going to talk about when we talk about our committees but one of the things that came up during a meeting i had was the state needs to focus on vocational education and um of course sheila quaker jumped on that and talked about the career academy but um i know that high tech industry can't exist without machine shops and that kind of work and as we move forward

a lot of people who know a lot about that are retiring and it's getting harder and harder to find skilled machinists so that's it enough so but my thing kids is my experiences we want to provide experiences i worked with senior design mechanical engineering for six years i had so many kids that didn't know what children in the bar how to write down so and i feel like we have a lot of that problems going on today because they just don't get experienced so we need somebody in a lot of ways we've had a lot of facts public speaking this is our program that we've been doing for about 20 years is award-winning even at state level beyond even at the national championship if you want to see a trophy case full of trophies we've

got our team did for their service to the community and how they provided i'm so proud of the fact they didn't know many robots we haven't competed with this [Music] transportation you know i when i was teaching it was easy to one of our coaches one question for you this building is used by other student groups in the high school and i would imagine there are others who would like to use the space i know you're very concerned about safety is there any concern on your part about being a good neighbor to other groups who may want to use this building okay mm-hmm [Music] i always do they talk to them there are you know band fencing clubs over here there are several other groups are there any other questions all right thank you so

much for being here tonight thank you thank you all right so we're going to move to item 8 the safe harbor before and after school care and mr slim yeah we have a renewal agreement before your safe harbor before and after school child care this is required by indiana code that we provide this kind of service either we need to do it as a corporation or we contract it out so for many years we contracted out several years ago we did an rfp and we changed providers and went with safe harbor it's the same group that tsc uses in their buildings so the renewal of the same terms i mean they pay us 250 a month during the school year in the summer program at 650 they have programs at the intermediate school and at

the elementary school both we currently have 17 participants at the intermediate school and we have 40 which is a capacity at the elementary school and understand amber said she even has a waiting list for students there at the elementary school and it'll be up to safe harbor to determine if they want to take more and that's usually depending on their staffing if they can handle more students or not there's also a summer program we switch back and forth between the buildings this year summer i think it will be at the elementary building for the summer school program they do help with homework as is necessary our administrators you know are on top of the program if they hear complaints or things they deal with it you know with the staff uh i mean we don't

necessarily supervise the staff because they're not our employees it's safe harbor employees so but i as far as i can tell what i've heard from the administrators we've had success and they're happy to have them in our building and recommend that we renew for another year for approving safe harbor before and after school care contract moved by mr shot and second by dr springer okay discussion and questions just wonder about the feedback from the families who are using these surveys and also you know there are some other options for example and i think the neighboring schools have the chess start coach in their elementary school and some i'm not sure whether current about my kids are younger at that age they have they hosted their classes in other elementary schools after school but we don't

have that option somehow we don't allow them to have the chest class in the building and also you know right now there's a wonderland just next to our elementary school and they provide a dancing technology classes media creation and you know many other options i wonder whether there's a collaboration between this safe harbor and the wonderland so if kids want to do you know one hour class there and come back or something like that whether there's a you know collaboration between them whether parents have options to do so and i think it's um i don't want to put them on the spot but in general it would be our building administrator's responsibility to kind of make sure that the enter and exit from the schools in a safe fashion for children is it's really false

to the building level would would one of you mind speaking to that question and um because of state mandates because they are monitored by this date as a child care organization we have to have a needle that if they're not coming right up 2 30 we have to have an adult taking them to check them into that program so our fire director actually blocks the few kids that are acquired to their door and checks them in and then their parent checks them out so they have to follow policies of their own to be permitted to be a child carer organization in our school center and they are monitored by the state i believe it's annually but i'm not sure perhaps that way um so actually justice who we work with is phenomenal she's always told

us when they're coming she takes care of everything because it is on them to make sure that they're following all the requirements and she'll let us know if there's anything structurally that has to be done by the prisons if we have you know like an exit sign that didn't have a life that would be our suffix and that would be something that our school would have to have done anyway so we haven't had anything like that but um but those within those are the kinds of things that she would ask us for assistance with otherwise it's all locked up did that help answer your question so in i in venice i know and because my kids are in different buildings so i sort of know you know the comparison so in bayless it seems to

me it will be quite easier it's easier for kids to participate in many other after-school activities you have like a basketball and you know writing basketball choir and many other things and i assume if okay that go to this safe harbor they can transfer in the building to different buildings yeah they can yeah it's easier for them to do this kind of transit so basically they can participate in warriors activities at the same time you know stay in the safe harbor when they are not in those activities but i just wonder for elementary like welles because seems to me safe harbor is our only choice to those parents and there are other outsider providers who provide you know educational enrichment to programs but somehow you know i wonder whether parents have the option to join

both or they have to do this kind of transfer you described and i think they would have a transformer we do have students that only go on certain days of the week and then they their parent takes them to other programs like what you're speaking of but i do um i'm also not sure if you can answer them i think in the contract we have to have just one provider for child care and this is a mandatory part process of school to have a child care service for families that need them but i hear i corrected her i hear your question being can the two entities work together so that students had the opportunity to go to wonderland that would have to all be discussed with athlete justice so currently what's happening she's the director

of state park so currently what has been happening for instance today we have students that after school went to sand harbor we had students that were signed to go to chess club and we had students who were taking advantage of the wonderland opportunity at chess club in the quarterman we dismissed through the foreign had a representative who accepted children checked them off the list and took them with them now that was us turning over responsibility to those people that carried that agreement as far as whether they can come back after those opportunities and go to safe harbor that's gonna have to be an agreement between parents in that age so we we are part okay thank you for the clarification so basically the the they can if only they talk to the safe harbor manager

whatever okay thank you and the people so based on your knowledge and parents are happy with the safe harbor service because before i remember there was a wonderland and i heard some people are not that happy so that's why we switched to steam popper i'm not sure i just it's probably not yes we are happy with the new vendor as opposed to the old one wonderful yeah before it was a wonderful so something right i think i think that i think that issue is passed though and we would want to move forward and discuss our current vendor and not okay sorry wage any commentary on a previous one sorry that's okay because right now i'm not using this so i really before we vote i just want to know you know do people uh have

people happy with it and because i feel making decisions for many families i think that i really appreciate um dr taggart and mrs soros for so carefully managing the safety of our children after school in your building so thank you for that very much and your feedback here tonight are there any other questions on this particular topic okay uh if we're prepared to vote all those in favor of approving safe farber's before and after school care contract any opposed hearing none that motion carries we will move on to the west lafayette youth baseball program and mr oil health yes today we're going to ask your approval for elise for west lafayette youth baseball formerly known as west lafayette little league the reason why we're bringing you a different lease now is because last year the

entity changed its name from west lafayette little league to west lafayette youth baseball it's now associated with tippecanoe county youth baseball and softball the terms of the lease are pretty simple we lease the little league fields in that area to the youth baseball for one dollar per year in exchange they maintain the grounds and do the upkeep of the trash removal and of course our students benefit tremendously from the west lafayette youth baseball and softball programs and we would like for that to continue so we we ask your approval of this lease which again one dollar per year uh it automatically renews uh for through each year up to three years so again emotion moved by mr marley second by mr carpent discussions questions been in that facility 50 years right i was i was

the first losing pitcher [Laughter] it is a wonderfully well used facility and appreciated by the community space for our pe class and to teach kids baseball things like that not that i'm aware of this is shot we've used it for our field day we've used it for our teaching classes but it's not an ongoing use but we'll give you guys have accessibility okay thanks third grade kickball permit yeah yeah because i didn't even know that's part of our property so i thought oh that's nice and uh so yeah at some point if our kids can learn the baseball even in the pe pass it will be nice they do and each at each building level there's a unit on uh baseball and softball in pe okay and pickleball too if anybody's interested i've heard a

lot about it okay uh does anybody have any additional questions on this topic all right all those in favor all right any opposed hearing none that motion carries we will move on to report um information to the board on the february adm count and mr slow okay we have the february one count which is the account in february gives your funding from january through june your account in september gives you funding from july to december so it's kind of a number we like to watch so what the number we have we had a reduction of 13 students from the fall till the spring so compared to a year ago we had a reduction of five it went down if you want to go back a year before that it went down 40. so i don't

know we've maybe stabilized a little bit the unfortunate part is the stabilizing is all a lower level than we were from our to 20 adm count at that point we were 23 42 so our you know we lost around 84 from uh students from 1920 school year to 2021 then 21 22 we went down six but then evened out in the fall february count so but it impacts us you know we get six thousand two hundred ninety five dollars per student from the state so you know this is for six month period so you're going to lose half of that so you you know our reduction in revenue will go down about 40 000 from the january through the june payments from the doe it's not significant amount but you know it's con some we

have to to watch so we're down 13. we were down five last year so it's um you know it is what it is and uh we move on hope our enrollment could grow back in this fall any questions for mr slope yeah well from the in the fall of 19 compared to the fall of 20 we went down 84. and then in the spring time uh with the february cow in 20 compared to 22 we went down 40. so we dropped off i mean that's the change now you know you have people coming in and people leaving so that's what the net result is when you factor all the ins and outs from the enrollment numbers and i know that you do a nice job tracking those do you have any thoughts on where they

you know where i mean you have two you know students that graduate you had some that went home school we have international students that leave and return we've had some you know with housing particularly probably with apartments you have more mobility so you have students of maybe you know their department here they move over to lsc so they transfer over there or they maybe their parents bought a home in tsc in the county kind of hard to find a house in our district to move into so they maybe move into the county so they transfer over there so you know our principals use you know they track that they see who moves and you know it's not it's unlikely and not often that somebody leaves because they're unhappy it's because of circumstances in life their

family things change or they graduate thank you any other questions for mr slopes yeah i also appreciated that you carefully check the categories for their leaving and coming and you know different categories and so sounds like when they leave and the principal did talk to them about why they they you and things like that for them you mentioned that they bought a house they changed the apartment and so yeah i wonder by any chance if those people bring our feedback and they'll be helpful to to learn probably mostly it's not because of ours but if there's anything you know we can improve and that will be helpful to get that feedback well it seems like most the categories are circumstances that we can't change i mean if the the parents move or they graduate i

mean just kind of you know start like well am i going to stay or am i going to go i mean it's more or less well this is my life circumstance change my family situation change and they don't often have a lot of choice so but but no i mean if there is opportunity that we sure would encourage them to stay i mean if we could and we want them to stay but uh life changes and you have to move on and it may adjust okay thanks any other questions comments from mr sleds okay we will move on to uh personnel report and dr reiner i would just like to recommend the board approve the items in the personnel report can i get a motion please move by mrs alston sir second by mr shot

questions okay all those in favor of approving the personnel report any opposed hearing none a personal report queries and then we'll move on to accounts payable and mr olha thank you so the accounts payable this this time we're asking for approval of total amount of three million fifty five thousand seven hundred fifty five dollars and seventy eight cents of which nine hundred forty five thousand seven fifty five thirty nine is payroll payroll deductions of 444 455.35 other claims of 911 228 40. weveck claims of a hundred five thousand nine thirty thirty two and construction projects six hundred forty eight thousand three hundred eighty six dollars and thirty two cents a few claims of note uh voucher number 51 45 henriette group for 70 is our quarterly property and casualty insurance payment claim number voucher number

0855188 edf inc for 110927.05 is actually part of our natural gas bill which is divided into the gas itself and the delivery of the gas let's see matrix trust companies a new new claim this month it's actually a 403 b contribution from an employee it's the pepcu 403b option 2031 dollars and 94 cents i've mentioned this one before number 5264. it's all 51 10 llc is office pride custodial service 9848.48 so those are the major claims of interest and so can i get a motion please big bills move by dr springer second by mr carpet questions discussion um and yeah i'm that i kind of have a suggestion but you don't have to address it uh like very soon i noticed that there are a lot of abbreviations in the in the concept table and

so i wonder whether you know sometime in the future we can prepare a code book for those frequented charities it's very those with a bigger amount so it'll be helpful for the current and the future board members and the public and probably for dr greener as well because he's new you know some operations may not be what his father is before and so yeah otherwise you know have to there's so many numbers quite overwhelming and so many entries and so i i feel many times i have questions here and there i feel uncomfortable to keep asking you this and that i'm not like questioning those costs i'm just trying to figure out you know what they are and kind of educate myself so i wonder whether it's possible at all in the future we have

a sort of code book to explain oh this abbreviation means this oh like history what's about your gas oh where the vendor is and that sort of thing yeah kind of a code book yeah and we could consider doing something like that okay yeah another thing is the last time we talked about the and the officer the board officers are reviewing the legal service you know the activities stuff and i wonder whether well so that was in the note that i sent out to the board giving an update about our process on that and it looks like that we'll be ready to show that and have that conversation with the board in march so that was in the one i sent out last week that outlined upcoming things um that was yeah we would hope

to be able to do that in march we we really placed a priority on letting dr reiner get uh six days in the chair before he started and then we had a winter storm yeah to really keep things interesting for him in that first week so yeah that's the that's the timeline for that but that is not uh something that the board officers will have that access to the information yeah we're working on what that looks like and what different things are so as officers and then we'll bring that to everybody to have a conversation okay yeah i also appreciate the you know the board officers uh and consider the community feedback and uh regarding you know the attendance of attorney to the regular board meetings and i feel you know when there's no legal

issues being discussed we don't need to spend the money on that yeah i mean i think that the officers uh made that decision you know thought that that was appropriate for our meetings so yeah yeah thanks another last thing is uh for the ether funds and you know part of the purpose is to address the learning laws and so i heard from the community about you know what exactly the programs we run to use a ease our money to address the learning losses and those we we must be doing it but you know not sure exactly what when which ones are the ones we are running with their phones things like i'm not sure if that's exactly an accounts payable but do you mind answering the when you might how you might answer uh questions

about the spending of s or money sure well with respect to learning loss at this point we have had some expenditures related to summer school from last year and other programs that will specifically be funded by sr3 the learning loss component are being vetted at this time dr greiter coming on board there's going to be a lot more discussion very very quickly about what those are going to look like okay we really appreciate everybody's patience letting him but i will say that they have that was one of the first things those guys when they we met said let's get that on the agenda that elementary and intermediate principles have been they've got some ideas and so it is on the agenda and will work swiftly to begin developing and finalizing plans that they've been working

on and then report accordingly yeah thank you so much i just yeah i just you know learned in my from my past year of experience serving of serving on the board i feel you know schools have done tons of things but sometimes you know the public may not know so it will be helpful for people to know you know since being being done and you know what kind of resources people can use and things like that so okay so we're a little off topic but how about if we take a vote to pay our bills all those in favor any opposed hearing none that motion carries we're going to move ahead to committee assignments and this is really just general information there's no exhibit um it is normal uh following the organizational meeting in january

as you all know that the board chair will work with the individual board members for committee assignments uh and that has happened this year i'm very grateful to all of you for your participation in that process no board member is forced to be on a committee assignment all board members are consulted with their interests and their availability and every board member has the opportunity to request and also to refuse aboard the committee assignment if they choose to do so and so i just express my gratitude to all of you for making my first time through that process go smoothly and also to let our community know that those board committee assignments are available on the board uh tab on the website so if anybody's got any particular questions pertaining to board member committee assignments you

are welcome to reference that and send me communication if you've got questions about those or to individual board members if you've got thoughts about their committee assignment and things you'd like to see there so we'll move on to board and superintendent reports and um we start with you mr karpick i will be involved with the swedish lafayette schools education foundation is meeting on thursday alumni also on wednesday probably the two things i have nothing else to report mr marley nothing new to report mr shaw no committee uh report but uh do you want to report out on the 2022 isba leadership academy that five of us took part in virtually over the last couple weeks mrs whit mrs austin dr springer dr yann and myself it was hosted by steve horton the new director of

board services with ispa as you might recall he was hired last november from the ohio school boards association replacing michael adamson who had retired it's a two two and a half hour session we covered three topics again it was virtual um so again as as good as it could be from a webinar standpoint i thought steve did a did a nice job the first topic was teamwork and communication uh specifically dealing with the different styles of communication and how to effectively communicate across those different styles we heard about passion and commitment opinions formed without adequate evidence respect and disrespect personal agendas and improving relationships we all took a personal survey to determine if we were a taskmaster enthusiast analyst or a mainstay the second topic dealt with evaluations and we were reminded that evaluation is

an opportunity for collaboration and continuous improvement and should align with the strategic plan we reviewed the state standards for school leaders those are human capital management instructional leadership personal behavior building relationships culture of achievement and organizational operational and resource management and finally we touch briefly on strategic plans uh reminded three to five goals are ideal and a strategic plan and that they should be smart meaning specific measurable attainable relevant and time-based objective strategies and action steps are the key steps to obtaining each goal again i thought steve is as as new to his position here in indiana brought some a different not different but a different point of view from being in ohio for the last eight years and overall thought it was a very enthusiastic upbeat session just to wish it could have been

a person probably been a lot more engagement haven't been but that's my report thank you dr springer for the park board the riverside skating center is open it's open tuesday through sunday monday night is reserved for private rentals hope to have it open for another month they also offer private and semi-private skating lessons please enjoy shelter reservations for 2022 are open something new that the parks and rec is offering this summer at the celery bog nature area is six weeks of summer nature day camps so there are six one-week sessions and they will accept up to 50 campers per week and sessions include themes of insects plants rocks wildlife water and birds from glass our next glass governing board meeting will be tuesday february 11 o'clock am at durgan elementary school board teacher discussion from

january 20th topics that we discussed permanent subs at the elementary school in the intermediate school and what happens with class coverage at the junior senior high school health clinic update currently on hold awaiting data from anthem needs to get to our insurance committee lots of covered questions and missed all the changing guidelines from the indiana department of health possibility of esser funds for cova days and that discussion has resulted in what we passed this evening so appreciate all the discussion we had on that and then discussed house bill 1134 and senate bill 167 dealing with mandated legislation dealing with education thank you and mrs austin i'm going to take this off so i got my glasses while i'm trying to read um i got enthusiasts on the assessment we did and it's going to show

here um on the public school foundation of tippecanoe county dr greiner and i attended the meeting on february 1st and the spring grant cycle is open the application is online at psftc.org and i understand that the process has been streamlined so it should be easier for our teachers to apply for that funding than it was previously on the maximum award is two thousand dollars the community council will be reconvening someday um and i look forward to working on that um but the one i really geeked out about was the legislative update um as hair stood mentioned at our last meeting there have been several bills of concern in the short session i'm happy to report that sb 167 died thanks strangely to stephen colbert but unfortunately hb 1134 which is its sister bill passed through

the house i emailed our representatives to thank them for voting against it and for their continued support of public education i'm going to skip the explanation of it the house also passed hb 1072 which would require public school districts to share ballot referendum revenue with charter schools existing law allows school boards to choose to share that funding however this bill would make that a requirement in nonpartisan news hb 1182 which would have compelled school board candidates to declare their political party has died which i'm happy about because i can remain part of the surprise party and another relevant bill is senate bill 17 which would remove protections from school librarians regarding material alleged to be harmful to minors never mind the fact that these miners have the entire internet at their fingertips obviously they're being

corrupted in the library um and so i attended my first third house meeting which was the one i mentioned where uh representative klinker talked about vocational education um they had a speaker who uh was a former representative from indiana who had an economic forecast that was full of doom and gloom the education related bit in the presentation was that there's a lack of vocational education in indiana and that collaboration between education industry and government would help address that to which representative klinker jumped in and talked about the career center and that she continues to prioritize vocational education representatives campbell klinker and nagel gave updates on their legislative babies many of which are bills we've already discussed and not a whole lot of new information was presented aside from representative nagle asserting that hb 1134 would

only require posting of classroom materials if parents requested it and that the bill would continue to be worked on as it moved through the process but someone else pointed out a promise it wasn't me that the mechanism for parents to review curricula already exists but she didn't comment on that comment and finally um rachel and i will be attending state house day on february 15th and i've invited our representatives and senator to join us for lunch um we're fortunate that all three of them are friendly to education and i'm looking forward to building those relationships and continuing to geek out about legislation wonderful thank you dr yen uh yeah i i mean uh i'm on the community council and which hasn't met yet and i also went to the first uh saturday feedback in january

and with tom and and you uh and steve and so um you you wrote a very detailed very nice summary and so i i guess i don't need to after you don't say anything more about that but actually it would be nice if in some way that can be shared with the public and yeah i went to the training and tom and summarized it very well and i really don't have much to add and uh one thing i learned i found it interesting is about the summer retreat for board members so people work together intensively for a longer period of time and to collaborate and about talk about plans and so on i i wonder whether we will do that in the future which we i don't think we did last year right because of

coe and another thing is they also encouraged that he also encouraged that we listened to the community and listen to community members in small groups is also a good way which actually is kind of aligned with our saturday feedback meeting and so the he also in char uh encourage us to you know just uh keep in mind like where are we successful where do we perceive needs and where are we struggling and where can we do better and so i i totally agree with with came on that and and other than that and research shots to really summarize it very well and also we're encouraged by this new director and look forward to working with him more in the future you want to comment upon the summer retreat so the summer retreat that we will

do because okay we we will schedule and have an outside facilitator come in and kind of focus on looking at the current strategic plan and what goals will we develop which kind of align with what mr schatz said that would be aligned to that plan and move forward and of course be measurable goals too any other comments before we move on okay uh we have we're moving on to communication from the audience not agenda items and here's stu i'll cut quick to the chase uh hb 1134. if you haven't read the blog post by doug massen you really should i can't repeat part of what he said but nevertheless i would point out that i have brought some texts with me which i would like to share with you as a sample resolution potentially to

oppose hb 1134 this is from ista so i'll give you that and if you if you're willing to sign on and help out that'd be great i know that some of you are going to the state house next week uh for isba i appreciate that greatly and you are right we have three two representatives and a senator who are on our side but there's an awful lot of other people that need to hear from us so if you are at all able to communicate with some of the senators on the senate education committee that would be very useful i realized that they oftentimes don't listen to anybody but their own constituents but let's be honest we've got to do what we can try on that so i greatly appreciate your support and i will pass

this over to your president uh before we leave tonight thank you all right um move on to future meetings our next regular board meeting is for monday march the 7th at 6 30 right here in the lgi room an upcoming date of interest our next first saturday feedback is saturday march the 5th at 9 00 a.m at faith west and in their community room also just we want to be available to to individuals after the meeting but just so everyone's aware we are dismissing to executive session for training following this meeting so if we do not stay in this room for long periods of time we are not abandoning you we're just moving on to the next meeting okay so with that i will officially adjourn the meeting we'll see if i can do it

better than i started could i get emotion to adjourn the meeting moved by mrs austin second by mr marley all those in favor aye anyone opposed all right officially adjourned thank you very much everyone yes [Music] we do have documents to sign oh it was roberta come on we all know need
