Good evening all. Thanks for your patience. Uh it is 601 and if you'll stand in join [clears throat] to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you. You may be seated [clears throat] school board of trustees on November 25th, 2025. And we will start our meeting as we always do with public comments. So if you'd like to address the board, uh please um [clears throat] go to the podium if you would state your name and address. Please keep your comments to five minutes or less of a personal nature. Any takers? >> Okay, thank you. We'll move on. Item number three on our agenda tonight is our consent agenda. It does not include our

claims report, which we approved last week in a special public meeting. Kind of includes everything else on the consent agenda as normally submitted. fun report, a personel report. Few things on there including early graduation request that you've had a chance to look at, some out of town professional leave coming up, sale of some mini buses. Um anyway, I would entertain a motion to approve the consent agenda as submitted or one with any amendments to approve the consent agenda. Thank you, Mr. Brooks. >> Second. >> Thank you, Vicki. Um, okay. All those in favor by saying I. >> Any opposed? >> Motion carries. 5 Z. Moving on to item four, our reports. Dr. Haw, we have a we have a student presentation. >> So, happy to introduce Mr. Troy Davis, our longtime DECA sponsor, and he

comes, I think about once a year, and gives us update on their program. Davis, it's all yours. Um, good evening. Um, if you don't know me, I think most of you do. Um, I realized at the table that almost every one of you either has a kid in DECA, a kid in PCC, couple three kids that have been in DECA, graduated, gotten married, and done all that. So, we we we kind of covered all the gamut of that. But, um, I am Troy Davis, and I am the adviser for Yorktown DECA. Um this is Isabelle Gibbs. Isabelle is our chapter president this year for Yorktown DECA. Um we always a part of our DECA month is we like to speak as you know to our board and um Dr. Henshaw and folks about what we're

doing with our program. We have some exciting things. Um just on a personal note um my DECA kids and um Yorktown Community Schools has been extremely supportive to me and my program but particularly this year. Um I lost the best codec adviser I ever had is my wife this year um um to Ilmas um she believed in this as an entrepreneur herself in this program extensively um and these kids took everything we showed them and they hit the ground running from last December to to March including me not going to state conference with them and handled things presented themselves well um went with some you know other teachers that normally don't jump in and help with DECA but as timing and things were and I did get to go to ICD DC with them. But

I it's just appreciative to work in a community um and live in a community that where um people come together. Um you know, I just can't I can't say more about that. So, just to kind of show you where we're at, what we're doing, we've got some some big things going on. We're going to kind of um give you an overview of that. Um as I said, Isabelle's there. Mrs. Kelly Miller is also my co-sponsor. Kelly also operates in the capacity of the Indiana DECA um state officer advisor. So, she works with all of our state officers um puts together our programs for the year and I'm also on the Indiana DECA board um as well. Um we uh going to go over tonight just a little bit our current membership, our program work, what

we have going on this month for DECA month and an update um on the Tiger Cafe and some exciting things going on there. Um, our current membership is 64 members. Um, that is is virtually unchanged. Um, we're we're kind of working on changing our recruitment. We'd like to have more, but sometimes you have to look at what's manageable, too. Um, as well, so we're we're kind of there. Um, Indiana DECA itself is in a huge growth phase. Um, and we're we're we kind of have capped out just a little bit. Um, that growth comes obviously from those donut schools who just absorb almost everything that's out there right now. Um, and when you have a school like Fisers that didn't have a chapter 5 years ago and there are 200 members, you know, now you

kind of we only get so many slots. We're in a smaller district for competition things, but we we do real well. We took um 56 students to state competition last year and 11 to ICBC and um last year >> I think it's been a minute. Um we um our our program of work was to membership of at least 50 members. And what we're really working toward is having members that are actually all going to to do something and participate. Um we uh to complete all six project management events for YEC and I'll talk about that more in a minute. These are kind of a special event. They're much larger projects and um they are unique in that each chapter can only have one of each of these six events which ends up being a paper

and a presentation but you've actually managed an entire project. So it's kind of a level playing field but they're really really um more intense as far as the depth and the scope. Um we want to increase our number of students qualifying for ICDC. ICDC is our international career development conference. Um that is kind of the the Olympics of DECA. Um very similar to what FFA just did down in Indianapolis a month or so ago. Um, we want to grow our current operations to accommodate a second school-based enterprise. And we'll elaborate on that in a minute. Um, and then improve our member training efficiency with regard to our business operations. Some of that was a um a brainchild of the what has been the last year. Um, we got to school started this year and I

had all these great eager kids and my seniors that all graduated and they're, you know, IU Kelly scholars and Notre Dame and all over the place. Such great kids. Former state officers. Um they did a good job of keeping mind in the store, but they didn't train anybody. Um so we're we're kind of running into we've got a great group of younger people, but we've got to really roll our sleeves up and get them where they need to be. And that's that's a good thing to learn that, you know, things can go real efficiently, but you got to make sure you're you're paying it forward, too. Um our DECA month activities, these are our project management events that we're working on right now. We've got a group that's working on animal rescue and shelter community

giving project. um our project management sales project is a way to bring in additional um money to um our chapter for our development and our growth. Um and the the key event to that was last Saturday we had a turkey trot um and that was very enjoyable to watch with these this group of kids because this is a group of very quiet kids um that um they this is very new. They're they're 10th graders, they're 15 year olds. They're putting on this big project and they're they're kind of realizing that that some of the things that they they needed to do, which is great. Um, they had about almost 40 participants altogether, but they they said, uh, well, we didn't know there was a sporting event. I said, well, that's because you didn't ask me

to put in a facilities request for you and and that's why the parking lot's full of cars. So, they're they're learning the process like, well, we need to meet with you more next year because when I said, "Yeah, I do a lot of paperwork with you guys for DECA. This is exactly what we're talking about." So, they've already learning from how that to be an annual event as part of our of our project management event. So, if we can do that, that's great. Um, our deck involvement, other um ECA events. Last week was a busy week. Um, we were open all three nights of the play. They had tremendous um showing at the fall play. We do the fall and spring play. Um, we're doing home swim meets again this year. Um, we've done um

slushies and meet and greet with every single freshman during kickoff day. We did that at the very first day of of that over the summer. um our our tiger preview night. We're set up for that and and bringing in and talking to parents and getting a vibe of all that. Um a lot of teacher and staff recognition and then we last Wednesday also we're at Butler all day with 30 students um doing our fall leadership. So last week was jam-packed. I wasn't really too disappointed that Tuesday got cancelled because that was the start of our week and it it kind of put a little breath into the schedule. Um so students um are busy working on their competitive events for the second semester inside and outside of class. Um we have our district competition in

January, our SEDC, our state career development which is March 1st through 3rd and then this year we're in Atlanta um April 25th through the 28th. So um we hope to have a good contingency kids to be able to do that. Um so the Tiger Cafe for those of you who don't know we um had a brainchild in about 2017 and Mr. Simpson's um youngest was part of that group that that did all the ground work and we finally got our Tiger Cafe or SB off the ground in 2019 um only to be slapped square in the face with co and so it was very interesting um how quickly we had to learn how to pivot with something we were still getting getting new at um and so that was was kind of a a crazy

year. Um we got through that and were able to in the following year after we were open for a year become a DECA gold certified um school-based enterprise. Um we are going for our fourth reertification this year which means next year we have to fully reertify and that certification process is 10 competencies written in a 50-page paper um and submit it to DECAT which gives us the opportunity to send two students to ICDC to present um at that national level for that SPE. Um so right we have we've pivoted um we started out as a coffee shop. We're much more of a more of a a um stop and go. Um we see our product mix evolving all the times while working within the guidelines outlined for the um um smart snack compliance and things

like that. Last year we did um almost $41,000. We are open two hours a day, 170 days a year. Um and our sales for 2324 were which was um a pretty substantial increase. Um we're on track. We're not up as much this year, but again we're we're kind of in a growth figuring some things out. We've got a lot of new ideas of things, but I've told the kids we're going to slow down on new things for a minute and wait till second semester because we need to get some training under our belt and we can't go willy-nilly with everything. Um, we provided over $18,000 last year for our students. It cut our costs for our state conference. Kids didn't pay to go to district. Um, many many of our students last year, and Isabelle

can attest to this, um, paid little to nothing to go to ICDC other than airfare. That's one thing we won't buy for you because if you cancel a ticket, we're stuck with it. So, we feel like you got have a little skin in the game. But, just doing that by working on on different things. Um, so we we they got DECA swag, they got meals, they've got um we're all we always pay for um um a couple thousand dollars worth of meals for them at our state conference and that most kids that if they go from all from the beginning of DECA all the way through ICDC, it can get upwards of $1,500 to $2,000 in a year. Um we're also able to out of out of those proceeds. We did not charge a single

chaperone to go chaperon for us. We paid for their housing and and registration and their while they were there. We're asking parents to come monitor 60 kids um and take time off work to do that. Um we didn't used to be able to do that. We had to beg for parents to come help us and we have to have eight parents to every um one parent to every eight kids. So it's a pretty good group of people. Um and we appreciate that very much especially this last year. So um our looking ahead what we're really trying to do we're looking at new opportunities to partner with businesses in the community with our diplomas. um our new diplomas really have the state of Indiana has listed their CTSOs which are DECA FCCLA for us other schools

um you know FFA and such um that have these school-based enterprises as a platform where kids can get these hours for the SEALs we've got a group of kids that are working with um Miss Brewer and Dr. Henaw right now on putting ways together to do that. That's our career development project this year. So we're in the throws of that which is very exciting. Um increase opportunities to network and develop with our DECA members from all the United States. We um presented to the um chamber last month I think it was um and were able to to start doing a little local networking and and be able to have those a lot of the things we do in DECA require us to work with with businesses and business leaders. Um and then just to continue

using development of skills that will help our students be better college students and career experts. That's really one of our major major goals. Um the last thing I want to talk about is we have something very very exciting that we have in the throws and as Isabelle's our chapter president, but she's part of this. Um her and and her partner, we're just at Menard's picking up lumber. Um we are in the midst of putting together our second schoolbased enterprise, which is going to be we don't really have a name yet. We're working on that. Um but we took the um We we kind of got we'd wanted to do this for a long time and we were talking with um Mr. Heinenright about the needs that we have in the community for um Yorktown gear

and we also talked very much about all that's been put into implementing the new branding. And so we took the new branding guidelines and we took them to a local um printer that we've used for a while as our starting point. And these kids are putting together um our our second SP. We've already ordered um our initial line, it's about 12 pieces, quarter zip, crew necks, shirts. Our goal is to to be mobile so we can go to every sporting event possible. So this kiosk that that is being built by this group um to go we'll go to football games and basketball games and all the things we go. It gives us a broader scope because it's not just this three hours a day that the cafe is open. We can put more kids on

it. We hopefully would like to have a a a standalone shop, but we don't know that we're going to need that. And if you know anything about the high school with everything, we've got a lot going on, but we still don't have an extra room closet. So, I don't know where we [laughter] put it. I don't know where we put this point. I am out of the tiny room this year. And I'm pretty happy about that, let me tell you. Um the uh so we're we're very excited. They're going to we should get things off the ground and be able to get get some stuff in um in December and January before they have to submit their project and then move forward with that. Um, so that's very excited. We're we'll be happy to get

that, but we we were very stringent with our with the companies we're working with about meeting all the guidelines of that new branding. Um, and we want to and we're going to have a lot of the same things that as far as the quality and the brands that you see with the online stuff, but we don't have to have quite the margins that they do. So, we're able to be able to offer that. And we really want to address our youth markets are not being tapped very well in Yorktown. Um, so we want to be able to hit that youth all the way up to adults and larger sizes and get some cool things, um, spirit wear and and and novelty items and such to get that going. So, we're pretty excited about that. That

really will will take us a different we can have two SBS. One we have now is food. This one will be retail. And so, we'll be able to to get it gold certified and to be able to compete with it as well and offer more opportunities to our students. But we couldn't do any of that without the support of of this great school corporation. Um I tell people all the time with the other organizations I'm with that we don't really have any real world problems at Yorktown. I really feel strongly about that. I said I don't I don't think we understand sometimes how lucky we are here and we don't ever want to take that for granted. So thank you very much for taking time to hear about what we're doing. DECA we're going to

continue to to carry on. I think I've got at least seven more years. Stacy Brewer has told all of us that that we can't go until she says so. Um, and you know, what would we do with our time if we didn't with that? So, um, we we appreciate that. We appreciate the support. All your kids that are involved in DECA, your kids that are coming up from, um, you know, the middle school, we want to we want to bring them into DECA. Um, it's it's a great it's a great thing. So, um, do you all have any questions or or comments or >> I do. >> You do? >> Yeah. Not for you yet. >> Oh, okay. Well, thank you, Tom. I appreciate that. >> So, Isabelle, tell us why did you get involved

in DECA and how has being involved in DECA changed you? >> Yeah. So, I had a lot of older I'm a swimmer, so a lot of my older um friends in DECA and were very successful in it and really like have lots of good stories to say about it. How it helped their networking skills, how like they learned a lot about the profession they want to go in and business. So, I would be a really good helpful way to start even in high school because I feel like freshman starting out you don't have a lot of business opportunities. I know you can get into the internships junior and senior year that's not quite a thing as a freshman. So being able to like get into and figure out some things about the business world and

such as networking and entrepreneurship and just learning things about marketing has been really really like helpful for me. Now I'm in an internship with a software company under marketing. So I My foundation has helped me a lot get to the place that I am. >> That's awesome. >> Congratulations. >> Do you know where you're where you're going to go after your >> I think >> on your new enterprise. Are you guys an online store? >> That that will be in in there too. Got to slow down a little bit. >> Or somebody's project probably. That that could be, you know, our next point. The nice part about too is there's a lot of things you can do um that deck up cruise as an SPE. Um some have even done vending machine businesses online regular

retail too. Um it it you know just whatever's going to fit to the needs of what what people want, but we'll certainly have to have an online presence. I don't think you can I don't think you can get away from that. >> Okay. Thank you. We love that. So I can say thank you. Obviously my I appreciate your enthusiasm, creativity, but I work in downtown Indies. So, I always get to see you guys come down and take over the town every year. So, we like that. So, we're trying to negotiate right now. Um, we may have to shift some dates, but we're out of room. India deck is out. We've got a big problem. We're out of room. So, we had a big you you know how it is being on a board me deck

board. This last board meeting like we had, we got the point we had to make a decision. And so, I think we're going to shift our our dates a little bit, but we can pick up 16,000 square foot at the JW and let's do what we need to do to accommodate all this tremendous growth that we're having looking forward. So, you know, like a lot of organizations, we're you face those growing pains and what do you do and how do you how do you make it best? But I think too, particularly with with the things in Indiana and the new diplomas, they're very much recognizing how important these CTSOs are and these these entrepreneurial experiences and the hands-on experiences. You know, that's kind of the core of the the new diplomas that we have. Um,

so giving these kids a chance to to to experience the real world business, you know, I think would be it's just really really um something to watch and to watch the growth I think is is incredible as well. So, >> when did you take over the program? >> 2011, I had three wishes. I wanted a decade chapter. Um I wanted to do all the interns. I wanted to be the prom sponsor. Be careful what you wish for. last year was I finally I finally retired from being the prom sponsor last year. I'm still doing all the interns. We have 60 interns in workbased learning this year um as well and we still have deca going very very strong. So those aren't going anywhere for for a little tiny bit. But yeah, it's a it's been

a it's been an interest as a second career as someone who was an entrepreneur for 30 years. Um it's it's been a pretty rewarding second career. So, and and with the SBES, that's my one way to still have my foot in the door of running a business every day. Um, and with and still be a teacher at the same time. So, so I'm going to brag on Mr. Davis for a little bit. So, the the program really was really not a program. Troy took it over and uh, you know, you fast forward to today, you know, my kids, my two kids both went through the program, both with ICDC, both And you know my daughter finished in the top 10 IC in the world. She she found herself through deca. I mean she was not

very confident when she came in and she didn't like to public speak and you know that changed her and then she went to state and went into the sales program which program there graduated with a degree there and both of them my son and my daughter both in sales both doing extremely well and it all started with the program when you go to state like many other things you're used to especially caramel is the gets cold all the time for the winter or you know is it still top three qualifying? >> Yeah, it's top in in in written events and professional selling that that Megan was in um that it's still top three and that's one of the things that growth get to the point where we're going to be able to probably have one

more allocation which is very >> but every winner or every top three was Caramel or a beltway school very few from outside and all of a sudden Mr. Davis started winning awards down there and and Yorktown name started getting called more frequently. has a has a big presence >> for the size we are. We had I had a kid I didn't even think about it that it's been a few years ago said something about where are you from? I said yeah that's the school that kept winning everything on Sunday night and that year we had in almost every written event professional selling we were we were one and not one two and three and everything. So it's pretty good but um no we we've been very very lucky um to have the success. It's it's

funny that Tom says that um 8 was the first group that I ever took to to ICDC. Um I had these three boys and we went trucking to Atlanta. Had no idea what we were doing. Um I got there and got involved very quickly with their new advisor program and have went on to the point that I have been the Indiana DECA adviser of the year and I have been a um a advisor presenter at ICBC um for the past 12 years. Um I have camp, which is their specialty conference where they bring in folks um to speak um to do all their workshops for them. The last one was at 2018, which was kind of crazy because I did it two days before I closed on my house in Yorktown when I moved over

here um and got stranded in Miami on a bad Southwest flight. Was trying to get home to close on the house, but um was fortunate enough to do that. So, I' I'veworked with a lot of people um and and really we we've been so fortunate to be able to do what we're doing. And we're not done. There's there's there's a lot to be done. I think sometimes it's nice when you hit a little bit of a plateau to be able to be reflective and I I think this new SB and some things like that. Um and it's changed too. Um not by anybody's um fault, but we've kind of had to change what we teach in our department because we've had to adapt um with our new diplomas and things like that. Um Mrs. Miller

and I now have every single ninth grader taking computer science um We're making them problem solve and making their head hurt. They're not always happy about it, but we're we're we're almost through the first semester of it. It's been a good experience for us, but so we're having to we're having to um recruit in a little different way. They're not all in marketing. They're not all in accounting. Um so we're we're finding out ways to make sure that we can get them and make that connection to them um and how to use those tools that we're presenting to them um as well. And I think DECA will evolve with that, particularly with AI and things like that. going to see events that are driven by that in probably the next three or four years because

that's that's kind of the direction that everything's going. >> Well, thank you for all you've done. Congratulations. Best of luck. [applause] We'll hang >> on your um animal rescue shelter. Do you just provide funds to like the animal shelter? >> Well, they're they're going to see how they do and then dec They're gonna it it started out as ARF and then we decided we probably better venture out to whoever needs that. Um it will be probably purchasing items and then it will be donating funds. So a lot of them have wish and we're just trying to cover all those that's project all these projects are coming at me right now like we had a meeting because everybody's got one going on and They're they're trying to manage them. But yeah, >> I know sometimes, you

know, animals are picked up here in Yorktown and I don't believe that we are serviced by the animal shelter. There's probably somebody else in here that can answer that question a little bit better than me, but they house them down at the street department in Yorktown. Um, and some of the town employees just purchase dog food. Um, you know, bring things in out of their own pockets. >> Well, I I will very much to them. I don't think we were any of us aware of that. And we, you know, it's with this community our size, we want to keep as much as we can here. And sometimes we have depending on what the what the project is or what we're doing, we have to branch out a little bit. That's good to know that. And

that's just one more initiative that we can look at as well. You know, that we like it when somebody puts a bug in. That's okay. Absolutely. >> Okay. Thanks, Dory. >> Okay. Let's move on to item 4B. Dr. Henshaw, teacher eval evaluation ratings under IC 20-28- 11.5. >> There there's a little irony here that it is no longer required by statute that you give teachers ratings in the four categories, but you still have to report on. So, here's the report from last year, and the statute specifies it has to welcome to look at that number. >> Okay. Any comments or questions on on that? >> Okay. Item 4 C is an update on software. So just this week I heard back from Fred Prazo contine project and we don't need absolute clarity about every wish

list consensus how far down the list [clears throat] as the base approach and the ch You know you see number one is natural versus synthetic. So that's going to be kind of driving soon. So I don't know if you want to try to put this in for our December meeting session through some of this invite to be here probably. >> How about um the last group that met kind of a committee. I think it was Ryan, Rachel, maybe Fred. Um, when you guys got together, >> there was a meeting at the end of the summer. I know there was driving Yeah. Okay. Yeah. >> So, how what if that group got together again since you guys met the first time and make a recommendation to the board of like do you need it or do

you want it? I think we went through essentially this list correct me if I'm wrong. The big decision is obviously number one. The rest was like we definitely need sports lighting. The expansion of the parking lot was a question of like you want all paid. I think there was a consensus meeting and really number 10 and 11 were if we can afford it. I think the restroom expansion off I think most of the rest was like these things. There were some question like how much do you need? I think that's a guess where does it go? How much do you need? I think we settled on We have a list that I think >> I think we can reconvene. Okay. Okay. So, I just wanted you to know we're still still in process on that.

He has [clears throat] that was on his list. me for a moment. Were you guys going to go and look at some of the projects that were completed in surrounding areas? >> I don't know. I think we played at most school. >> Okay. >> So I think they had a pretty good indication of you know where their thoughts were in terms of what were necessities. So we had played at most of them. So I think that they had a pretty good idea of that. >> I think had pictures a lot of here's what you would get in a regular dugout. Here's this mugout. So examples for most of those options. One of the last meetings that we were talking about, the concern that I have is that there's other needs, right, for other projects that

we've discussed. And will we run into a title line situation if we provide synthetic surfacing for softball and then we don't provide it for baseball that might be on the docket 5 years, 10 years, 20 years from now, but is there a situation? I want to make sure that that's not a problem. >> I reached out to lawyers had And from my understanding in her experience, it's not surface is not a title issue. Equity and access to um facilities issue. So for example, right now we don't have our own batting, we don't have our locker room, we don't have concessions, we don't have things that baseball has access to. So I mean it was couple of short conversations, but it's not a surface issue that's title equity. Title Nance. 100%. I would just wouldn't want

it to if we move forward with one and then there be a little >> somebody, you know, raised a concern that now we have an issue. Yeah. >> And we don't have the funds to be able to proceed with a baseball facility. That's a larger as that question. Is it a comparable cost? [snorts] >> Answer it, but we never got a We'll see if we can get that group together. >> Okay, thank you. [snorts] Item five. Oh, I'm sorry. Item 5. Let's move on to business. 5A is permission to pay end of your invoices. >> This is something that Mrs. so that we can pay bills between >> I [clears throat] um 5B is the first reading of the proposed 27 calendar. I think we have two options, right? >> Yes. So, Muny adopted their

calendar probably last year and initially in consultation with our principles talk about just adopting or just presenting one draft and then well Mr. Cooper found an error in my calendar date was a problem on this the first reading or the first option the the second one maybe now >> well >> or maybe you corrected it >> so anyway there are two options here typically you see this invest my is planning a later start in 2026 so draft students come back on August 11th. In draft two, students come back on August 5th. And if you have an earlier start, your seme break. I've tried and it's not possible. So there are tradeoffs here and one of the things that principles talked about was if we did consider draft one option to build to take input. We'll

push this out for I did specifically ask Miss Brewer if she had any concerns about the variation between semester. So she wasn't against this concept and I know there's lots of philosophy out there. definitely has a philosophy that they would prefer later starts rather earlier starts. So there's an option to do that again start well on draft two it has the start date like or the finish date I'm sorry how date is May. Sorry. >> It's like draft. So look at draft. >> It's like a like four days before it shows the end of it. >> Says May 24th would be the teacher's work day and then it doesn't show school closing until the 31st. So would that be the 25th? yellow. >> Yeah, but see the red. >> The red is one more day.

>> So, it's just on there as a holiday. >> Okay, I got you. I thought you were saying that was the last day school closed. Okay, gotcha. Sorry. >> Wouldn't be safe for me. >> No, I think that that's what I was worried about. I was like, um, the County Fair has been moved back one week um this year due to some scheduling as well as next year it will still be another week later July 13th and then it doesn't end until July 23rd. And then state fair this year they did push it back a week. So it's not starting until August I believe 10th or August 8th something like that because of a lot of the county push back for some conflicts they take projects on the third. So you know I did not

>> band will not probably be the seventh this year. >> I would assume it would be everything would be pushed back days. I know the third is static products or projects and the 10th is project. So, does the bill are getting push? It would just be nice to not have meet the teacher night before we have meet the teacher night and back to school nights or whatever that first week there or that last week of July. I prefer >> weather is changing. We used to kind of adapt it to like less heating and cooling of the building. Typically the weather is a lot >> of historic window >> and they haven't looked at it yet. still necessary. Um we had a discussion around that at the principal level. Um we have typically kept that on

um election day general elections and we did get word that there will not be a polling place at the middle school because I don't know about high school. So we were trying to determine that and so that we did have a discussion might not need to be that day. We did also have some discussion principal level about whether or not something >> it's probably not super popular. [laughter] You are permitted to do And the original behind it was teachers don't like >> Yeah. So that can be a discussion. >> Is the high school still We don't know yet for sure. >> I'm double checking. >> Okay. So, we're going to submit these and >> back in December or any other questions before we move on. Okay. Item 5C is the awarding of bids for the

roof replacement. >> I have done quite a bit of due diligence on this this week and I going to recommend table this additional couple. >> Do you want very briefly don't want to say a whole lot >> just so >> um >> trying to be sure that our bids are responsible and responsive and I've had several conversations with Steve Murphy who's our local attorney for property matters and I've also talked to Skill Corporation to get their opinion on such things today and I also spoke with Eric Longer and felt felt like we were all on the same page in Steve who is experts. So I had a call with him today of that and I said so what is your recommendations and basically I finally said I think I hear you saying it best. So

the short version is the low bidder is very provisions that allow us to bid. So December, >> are we on a time constraint like the bid? [clears throat] >> No, not not that tight. And again, the only expense we have in this so far is the is the expense of a legal ad. It's probably >> I'll make a motion to table item. I have a motion and a second expect when we come back. I do think regardless the labor group is our biggest risk that maybe next lay by saying I >> any opposed cars 5 item um where Ashley comes into >> she read them all last night policy updates into the record if you wish. >> Okay. All right. We're at the finish line. Item six on the agenda is closing comments. First, Dr.

>> We have several people I want to recognize by name and we'll try to invite all these individuals to be here next month to be recognized by this. But I was able to go down Friday to the Indiana School Counselor Association awards lunchon where Michelle Cooper who's our longtime one of our longtime high school counselors was named the Indiana School Counselor of the Year. We previously found out she was high school counselor of the year and they choose from elementary, middle school, high school state for her. Paul who's our high school athletic director received the NAA the national interastic athletic administrators association award of merit from the state association. Each state association can give out one of those a year and Paul was the recipient this year last week that mostly large Stacy Miller who's

our elementary music teacher received notice that she is the state elementary music teacher That's the Indiana town chamber of commerce always recognizes one teacher to receive the excellence in education award and the winner this year she knows it's not a surprise we'll invite all of them to be presell yesterday morning and talked about some of these kind of Stacy Brewer I think was regional principal of the year of our people but that doesn't happen by accident certified staffed buildings every day. I don't want to pass by our fall sports season volleyball maybe a little down this year came I said if there had been a sixth set they might have won the semiate a great season for them I was there to see that last touchdown catch and I think >> if there But that's

that is our first 4A sectional win and got the opportunity to host the regional and just seriously almost had it and heard a lot of compliments. I saw people I knew from other places, but people were super compliment. I think I mentioned cross country last month. First time in over four years has gone to the state finals as a team. That's a big win. Also, um certified net, we have that. We have a growing in your town. I know the town is excited about that, too. And it does make life a little easier when your at least on the government. That's good news. I was able to attend the opening night of the high school play last week. So, that's always fun. And one of the things that philosophy that I adopted a long time

ago was to try to make literacy and numeracy as rigorous as possible to get those foundations right off. But that's really to me the test of good experience is offering things for everybody, every kid, every middle school, middle school is that we still want to try to foundational subjects, but also overall almost through the first semester. It's been a good start to the year. Appreciate everybody's support. >> Thank you, comments. I'm start award. That's pretty cool to hear all of those. Thank you to the team for presenting. Proud of those accomplishments. Thank you to those in attendance. I appreciate you coming and yeah, awesome season. Happy Thanksgiving. >> Thanks, I would just like to say thank you to the school admin and teachers who do the extra things that go above and beyond. Um in

the last month I've been able to work over at um chicken and realology project. That's not something that they have to do. And so it was um fun and exciting to get to go in and see the kids excitement every single day when I was there. So um can food drive and thank you to those people that go the extra and promote that and um put that on. The veterans program was very nice. Again, one of those other items that not a must and or a have to and it's they choose to spend their time to put those programs on and I was able to actually bring my 95 year old grandfather and participate in that program. So, the same for our choirs. They got to sing last night at the Ball State Women's sing

the national anthem. So again, thank you to Mrs. Miller for that. So all those little extra things, they add up and they make a difference. And I feel like those are those items where you can really find a kid's strength. You know, they might not be excelling at something at school, but they can find something outside. So you have a happy Thanksgiving. >> Enjoy your break, teachers. >> Okay. I think ultimately we've got some really good kids. I We had to play kids show up for that time. I think we were leaving the basketball. Sue that was walking out. She was ready to open the door. Like Sue, don't open that door. Talk about you shouldn't [clears throat] be opening doors. I got you. So we just have things and she's like you got really

good man. Yeah, my mom. So it's things like that just in the community. So that's just kind of cool. Even the decenc I think people can disagree on decisions we make. We can disagree amongst ourselves. We got a group that is involved trying to make a difference. Thank you. >> Well, I think everybody said about everything I was going to say, but um thank you for everything and thank you for coming and speaking and thank you teachers and all of our admin and everything that you do and enjoy your break. >> Okay. Well, that takes even more away from me to say, I guess. So, um, I just want to add just a couple of things again. Thank you, Troy. Congratulations on your accomplishments so far, and you're right. >> Ask Tom about the nine

adults on a minivan trying to get chicken in Atlanta. [laughter] Sounds like the beginning. >> In my mind, I almost forgotten about that. Scott Smallstick was involved, too. Does that do I need to say anymore? >> It was It was something. It was It was something. >> Yeah. Murray Bar. >> Yeah. And Murray. It was It was just It just the hits just go on with this group. They were just trying to feed these [clears throat] kids. Okay. >> I have an update on the voting location. Northtown is not a voting center. It's been moved to the Y. >> Okay. >> So, none of the buildings will be >> No. Oh, that's great. Great. Thank you, Steve. >> Um, [laughter] so um but again, thank thanks for all you're doing in the program. one of

many that were really successful in um you know my three kids are are all long gone from Yorktown community schools but they all had a great experience here and I've got a granddaughter that's a first grader this year in Mrs. Austin's class and she's having another wonderful experience there last year and it was fantastic so um really warms my heart that another generation my family is going to get ready to rule that's away from that. But um really appreciate all of our teachers, uh our administrators, all of our staff. Uh as Dr. Henshaw said, it doesn't happen by accident. We got really, really good people. We don't have a perfect school corporation. We don't uh but it's way better in most areas than virtually every other school in this area in central Indiana. And it's

one of the best in the state for a reason. We have really good really good staff and people that invest in our kids and I'm thankful for that. Um before this meeting, uh Ryan and I had a chance to meet with some folks from the Yorktown School Foundation who partnered with us on the football project and we're discussing what's next on the horizon for 2026 and beyond. I think there's some really great opportunities that are partner uh to help move us forward not only in facilities but in programming. to come on that and it marries well with we're very close to having the strategic planning uh at least first draft done probably uh sometime next month. Um and we already have a facilities plan uh that has been in existence for a while. So I

think when we marry all those things together uh we're going to have a really good plan our our staff and our students and the community when it's all said and done. So other than that and thankful to schools and have my family be part of it. Wish everybody happy Thanksgiving. That's it. Have a
