001you. Good job. Thank you. Add set date and time for public uh budget validation meeting uh to new business and then add overnight field trip request one at plays to new business. That'll do it. Just add an extra half hour to all of your evenings. You didn't get all that root. >> No, it wasn't. >> Okay. Action to accept the board meeting agenda. >> Any questions? All in favor? Celebrating excellence student and staff in the spotlight. Mr. Duth, are you >> Good evening everybody. I have the honor of presenting two groups tonight. One a little little had a lot of good stuff going on. So, making sure we had had some exposure here. So, first off tonight we have Susan Kell and the middle school high school robotics team presenting their experience this year and
002how they competed with states. We'll start there with Sue. >> All right. This is uh this is our season recap. Um, we just had our state competition last this past Saturday. Oh, do the thing. Do the thing. This is how it goes for me, guys. Anytime I actually have to make technology work for me, it doesn't. I'm also using a student Chromebook right now. And um I'll tell you that I am definitely more uh sympathetic to them right now. There we go. Gosh, finally. That's embarrassing. All right, so this is our season recap. Um this year's game was called Pushback, and I'm going to have Bryson explain it in a minute, but real quick, we had 35 students participate in robotics this year, 612. Um, we had about 20 students who attended at least once
003a week or more. We offered practices 2:30 to 4:30 Monday, Wednesday, Friday almost every week. Um, Bud Rivers is my co- coach and I couldn't do it without him. We had six active competition teams this season. One of them kind of fizzled out midway, but um, the other five made it to states, which is that is like really pretty amazing. Um we attended monthly qualifying uh tournaments throughout the season and um on Saturday we were down in Portland for states. In November we hosted our first regional uh qualifier where we were the ones running the event. We had 38 teams come to Searsport and um several of you guys were there and helped set up and break down and they really appreciate that. Uh it was a serves as a fundraiser for the program and
004also just a really awesome like we have a really good space to host it and we have definitely been in places that did not have good spaces to host it. So we're going to be uh doing this again uh November 21st I think is that Saturday. So we're going to do it again and um it was a pretty great time. Uh and I think that was the tournament where 1738C took tournament champion on the home ground. Um and uh 17380D won a judges award which is right here. These look like um we had a great time at states. Uh it was a really jam-packed multiple hours. We uh you know, you arrive at 2:00 on Friday, you load into the pit, you go to the driver's meeting, you review all the rules, you tinker with
005your robots, you run going through inspection. Um and then the next morning we get there at 7:15 and we were there until I think the everything wrapped up around 6:00. Um, and it is going every I think the middle school teams had matches like every 10 minutes it felt like with some gaps just because there are 24 middle school teams at states and 48 high school teams at states. Um, so it's it's really kind of a very very busy kind of um day. Uh, before we get to Patrick, Bryson, can you explain how push back works just really briefly? Um so in this year's game push back the main object of the game is to use these main scoring objects. Um we call them blocks. Um they're octoahedrons. They have 18 sides and you can
006score them in long goals, center goals, and um you can also score points by parking. Um you also can get points by um capturing the control zones in the long goals. Um as well as there so they set up the blocks on the field at the start of the match. Um, but there's also on the side there are um match loaders where you can um so you can have blocks outside of the field that you can put into the match loaders during the match and your robot can take them from that and put them into long goals like one of our main strategies. Um, you can also double park. So, if you park just one robot, it's eight points. And if you park two robots, it's 30. Um, >> these matches are 2 minutes long.
007>> They are very, very, very fast >> and intense. >> Yes. And at the start of the match, there is a 15-second autonomous period where um your robot per um does actions entirely based off coding done before the match. And that can cause some problems if like your coding is messed up and when it gets to driver control, like sometimes if you don't do it correctly, you won't be able to drive during driver control. Uh, but driver control makes up the majority of the match for 1 minute and 45 seconds. It's entirely driver controlled and um you use the mechanisms on your robot to um score as many blocks in the long goal as possible, capture as many control zones as possible and try to and eventually toward the end of the match trying to
008park. So these robots were completely designed and built by student groups. These are not um that is like one of the core tenants of the VEX program is that it is student driven. So Bud and I are there to do things like ask them questions that will lead them down other roads or help them figure out, you know, how are we going to use this band saw to cut this piece of aluminum and to um feed them snacks in the afternoon and order them parts when they need them and things like that. But these robots are the result of weeks of design work, tinkering, refinement, um crazy last minute fixes between matches. Uh and they all of them I think all all of the robots we took to states can pick these blocks up, can
009score these blocks in all of the different layers. Um and it it's just I don't know, it's really awesome. Anyone wants to come to states next year, we are going. Um, Patrick, will you talk a little bit about coding? >> Mhm. >> So, coding is one of the main parts of VEX V5. So, you need to code your robot by controller inputs so it knows to drive forward or spin a motor to allow you to score. But that's also you use coding for the autonomous period. You have to code it before, like Bryson said. And if one thing is wrong, it could mess up your whole autonomous. Like one degree turning more than what you need could ruin the entire thing. So most of the year I spent time coding with blocks which is just
010Python but easier. And halfway through the year, I switched over to C++, which I think benefited our team a lot because it allowed us to not only fix our problems faster because the error system, which would just tell you what was wrong with your code and how to fix it, which was really nice, but it allowed for design on a robot as well. Like, so um Oh my god, sorry. on the brain when driver control is happening. I coded the logo onto the front of it just for fun. But that's besides the point. No, it's just I really like it. Um, but yeah, no, without coding your robot will not do so well. And I find it to be one of the hardest parts of just Vex in general because you got to problem solve
011on your own. There's not really anything to help you. And it's basically never done cuz there's always something to fix. >> Awesome. Thank you. All right, Lily, will you talk a little bit about what it's like to drive and have the fastest pit stop in the west during stad? >> Yeah. Um, so driving is like the funnest part of VEX and showing what you know and what you've coded, what you've built, all the skills you've learned and stuff from it so you can score in all of them. Drive and driving. It also can sometimes be stressful but fun at the same time. And when you don't have something built all the time, it can mess up your driving and you can always score. But usually a lot of the teams can easily get it done
012under pressure and we can be able to score. >> I will say that um these this is this is Girlybot, by the way. Um Girlybot has some pretty fantastic decorations on the back. I don't know if you can see those. Growot had was it a whole wheel that came off? Yeah. So, there are all these little things to keep it from falling apart. And um one of the things that's really amazing about this team, you guys are also great, but this team is uh the all girls team that we have right now and they are so calm under pressure. Watching them go boom boom, putting the wheel back on, getting it ready to go when they had they had just finished a match and they had another match coming that they had to go get
013in line for. Um, and so the the skills that this teaches, not just about like building robots and programming, but about flexible thinking, thinking on your feet, being calm when you know things are going crazy. Like this is one of the best um ways for students to have that real authentic learning around like when these skills really matter. Um, oh, Bryson, sorry, your picture was supposed to come earlier, but there's your picture. Um, so high school team 7 uh 38C did not uh you were 33 of 48, but it's important to note that they brought home this season um five different trophies over the course of the season. So for innovation, for the tournament champion, um you get two innovation awards or was was >> Two design awards, two innovation awards and a tournament champion
014award. So, um, really solid solid performances all, uh, season. Um, 17 380D brought home a judges award at our home tournament. Um, in our league, VEX high school and middle school is all together in Till States. So, at every regional tournament we go to, you have sixth grade teams who are brand new going up against high school teams who have been doing this for 6 years. So, for a middle school team to win a judges award is really a pretty big nod. And that they actually were the first of our teams to get their nod to states um because of that. Um Decode, you ended up sixth. Yeah, sixth. And then Asteroid Destroyer was 10th, Girlybot was 13th, and um the last team is Big Boy. And they were uh 14th out of the out
015of 24 um teams in the state. So um overall a pretty good showing. Um, what's coming next? The new season starts in May, so I have like 3 weeks to just breathe. And then, um, the game will drop at Worlds. We're going to be offering a summer camp in July to expand access and get some other kids who maybe want to get their hands into robots. Um, there'll be a preeason for established teams happening in August. And then we'll be doing the Turkey Bowl again in uh, November. So, that is our very long presentation. And does anyone have any questions? I just want to say thank you. Mrs. Kappell shared um the link and I was able to watch you guys on Saturday a little bit. I didn't know the scoring, but I was screaming
016for MY we do need to get either matching sweatshirts or t-shirts so I can pick you up because when there's like you said four different teams, it was really hard to know. Now I know what to look for. I was looking for something with Vikings. >> So we have these are the these are the state this is the state march. We have um our the Mid Coast Maniacs robotics team symbol. That's been the one we've used for robotics um since robotics started. It's your sport. Uh and our t-shirts are usually black. So, it's I'll make sure I'll make sure you get a t-shirt. Next round is done. Anyone else would like a t-shirt? I can. >> All right. Thank you guys so much. Before you guys, can you just tell me what grade each of
017you is in? I'm just curious. >> I'm in seventh grade. >> Okay. >> I'm also in seventh grade. I'm in eighth grade. >> Wow. >> We do not know what we're doing right now. So, well done. >> I also didn't give them any time to practice this. I was just like, this is what you're talking about in 5 minutes. So, what happens at the event? Literally. Yes. >> Thank you. And then next up we have I'm sorry guys, thank you for indulging us. There's a lot of great things happening. um and our high school team to talk about so the showing crew of the water. Uh we won our division and states high school. So some of you may be familiar with how the one competition works. It is kind of like the playoffs of
018theater which is a little weird but it uh we have 5 minutes to set up our stage. We have five minutes to take it down and we have 40 minutes to perform. Um anything over that point geted um there's a scoring system for overall production impact costumeing lighting sound acting all the parts. Um and it really does take a team to make it work. So, I'm going to have the kids talk a little bit about some of the recommendations that we received in addition to our first place win states. Um, what I wanted to say is if you don't want to go all the way after to see the show, if you haven't seen it yet, we will be doing a performance for the school uh Tuesday morning the 24th at 8:45 a.m. So, it's
019I bet you we can find seats for you. Uh, why don't you start with costumes? Hi there, everybody. I'm Kira Sable. I did all the costumes for the one act of the water spout. And I will say it was a little hectic at times cuz I'm really bad at procrastinating. But I also didn't know we had a budget budget. I didn't. So I kept on just pulling everything out of all these trunks that we had in the costume closet. And I was trying to go for 1870s sailors. They've been on the sea. You know, they're scrubbing decks. That's what I was going for. So most of the cast got slacks. And for all the girls, that was actually the funnest part. We got to work with dresses and I love looking at like oldfashioned dresses.
020So, I was in the costume closet like putting on different fabrics on myself, seeing what would match well with their skin tones and what I could do with their hair and makeup. And I just had a ball with it. Um AJ specifically, he has two different coats. One is a rain jacket that he used in this storm. I don't know if I should spoil it, but it's a shipwreck. You know, it's a ship. >> It's a shipwreck. But he has this rain jacket at one point and it was made so on the fly I completely forgot about it and I had to take apart two jackets and the like the bottom end of one ended up on her shoulders. It worked. And she got she got a special commendation for costumeuming. So the uh the
021judges get to decide what they give. They have all festival cast which is like the MVPs and then special congations go to whatever they feel like is important for them. There's no set list. Um so we also had uh special commendations for duo acting. I don't think any of our duos are here tonight but um trades and um got a special commendation for their comic comedic duo skills. Um Rosa I have to say stepped into the role what 2 3 weeks ago um less than 2 weeks ago. So we we lost the main character so we had to move people around and she just ran with it. Um we also have um another another student who stepped into her leading role in the game um who won cast a little character. Come on down. Okay,
022so originally I was playing the role of Alexander. Bit of a smaller role, comedic relief, not too serious. And then we lost a lead and I had to step in, learn all of those lines in less than two weeks. Um, so that was really, really, really scary. Um, and I I think that I did go into the festival with a bit of anxiety. So getting an award was really nice. THAT was really nice cuz I did not I wasn't feeling too good. Got on stage, did my best. So it felt good to know that my best was good enough with only like less than two weeks to learn it. So that was really really special to me. It's been a hectic oneact season, but it definitely has been fun and it's been very special. SO
023ANYBODY else want to say anything? Okay. Um, I do want to give a shout out to Rick Decoy who did our t-shirts. Uh, let's see. We're modeling yours complete with complete with >> Am I the only one wearing it? >> Well, cuz I've been wearing mine for two days and it was enough. But yeah, they love the fact that the logo was small in the back so they could get lots of uh lots of autographs from us and others. Yeah. Um, so you might recognize the uh the statue. Yeah. Um, and so just found this out today. Um, the Ponopskot Marine Museum has asked us to do a performance this summer, July 1st, as a part of the ramp up to July 4th activities. Uh, so we might be the closer for the evening events.
024Um, I'm hoping I'll have all these kiddos plus the other half to come back and do that. So, we'll, you know, we'll have to, you know, do some brushups now and then, but uh they would like us to TO OH, YEAH. THEY WOULD like us to share that this summer. So, I'm pretty excited. Um I don't know. Do you all have any questions for us? I don't have any questions, but I'm so glad you hear that about the museum cuz I was going to say that we need to get in touch with them and hook you guys up. Um, and I just I think it's really impressive that you told the story of Searsport and so just congrats for figuring out how to bring that to life. A lot of it was the was the
025interview. So Oliver Winsow Park had this amazing interview and you can find it in the archives. Um, you know, a lot of what he says is in there. I didn't have to change a whole lot. Had to add a couple of things, you know, imagination wise, but yeah, a lot of it was already there to start with. So, thank you all so much. That's all I >> consider consideration of minutes from the board meeting of February 10th, 2026. That's in the form of a motion to accept it. >> I will second that with just one little change. Uh I think it was number four celebrating excellence law. Any other comments, questions? All in favor? Thank you. No action required for the consent agenda. Public participation. I think there's a list there. Miss Brown, >> first
026one. >> That's us. >> Oh, that's you. Oh, you guys sign in. >> Okay. Is Nelly with you, too? >> Okay. Is it Belinda? >> Is it Kira? Um, I'm not really sure. >> Okay. So, I think Kristen's the one that >> good evening. Um, I sent to board members a letter. I have one here if you would um like to view it as I read, but I'm going to read along. I realized late that um I didn't attach it in the first place. So I apologize for this. All right. Um, so dear RSU 20 school board members, I'm writing you today regarding the recent decision about the Searsport District High School varsity softball coaching position. I have dedicated the past 9 years to RSU 20 and had every intention of returning for my 10th
027year as um for coach and as communicated by my letter of intent in January of 2026. I was informed on February 26 of 2026 that new standards were being set forth requiring all candidates to be interviewed for coaching positions. My interview was completed March 2nd, 2026, and I was notified the following Wednesday of a determination. I'm feeling a great deal of shock, heartbreak, and confusion following the decision not to reappoint me to the position. I've been eager to continue working with our student athletes and community. Coaching this program has been far more than a seasonal responsibility for me. It has been a commitment to the growth, development, and well-being of the young women in our district. I've taken pride in representing our school with integrity, building relationships with athletes and families, and creating an environment
028where students can learn and grow. For nearly a decade, I've devoted countless hours to this district. on and off the field, organizing practices, supporting students academically and emotionally, communicating with families, and working to ensure that our athletes feel valued and supported. Because of that commitment, I'm struggling to understand how my coaching dedication and continued willingness to serve our program is not considered what is best for the district and its student athletes. While I respect that difficult decisions sometimes must be in vain, I would appreciate the opportunity to understand this one. Now that you have this information, I'd like to request that the agenda be amended to and include an executive session to discuss a personal matter of when MSR 4056A before a final determination is made about the varsity softball coaching position. Thank you for
029your time and consideration of my perspective. >> Thank you, Kristen. Do you think I think she asked us question? I know it's not on the um it's not on the agenda and I don't know if I can add it at this time. >> Yes. >> I believe but I'm not positive that that's for employees. >> Mhm. >> And a coaching position unassigned is not an employee. So, just so I can ask a clarifying question since it's not on the agenda, the only way we could do this or either way would be that to request to follow at to to um Miss Aubrey had asked for an executive session. You're saying that because um that only applies to current employees. So, we can't according to the rules go into executive session. That's my understanding, but I'm
030not sure. I'm not positive that I'm incorrect, but I believe that that statute is for employee personnel conversations about employees. >> It's about a coaching position at which I would have an opportunity to be about. So then it would be a personnel matter that would need to be discussed. Do >> you know how to look this up? >> Yeah, I'm looking up. I'm looking it up now trying to figure it out. >> Thank you. >> So the question is whether or not this this statute is applicable to current employees which would occur then that would make this a personal master. >> Okay. So if it does not apply to c current personnel >> correct it would not be allowed. >> Would you cons sorry may I ask a clarifying question here? Would you consider a
031coach to be an appointee? You can it it's for discussion and consideration of appointees or employees. >> Okay. >> So, it qualifies. >> So, I believe it qualifies and we we have before had the issue of wanting to adjust. I'm just putting this out for people's information, not I'm not doing this. I think if we want to adjust the agenda after we've already done that part of the meeting, there has to be a motion specifically to say we want to adjust and we have to discuss that and then we have to vote on that and then we have to add the adjustment. So that's how we've done it before. >> I think yeah um I I would question if she's considered an an appointee when she has not been chosen for the position. She doesn't
032right the but currently right. So a coach would be an employee an appointee if they were chosen for the position that would be considered. >> Can I read what it says and then let you see? >> Yes. >> Disc discuss. Okay. So this is per what's permitted deliberation. Discussion or consideration of the employment, appointment, assignment, duties, promotion, demotion, compensation, evaluation, disciplining, resignation, or dismissal of an individual or group of public officials, appointees or employees of the body or agency or the investigation of hearing charges or complaints. Obviously, that's not relevant. Um, I mean, I don't know. I'm also the soccer coach for this school year, fall season. So, if that accounts for anything, then I guess technically I'd be an employee cuz I'd get a W2 at the end of the year. >> I think
033it's a double prong because reading that dismissal that would I think >> It's not a dismissal, but >> the policy says that coaches are hired seasonally, annually, and once the season is over, the position is over. >> Okay? Okay. >> They're no longer considered an an appointee of the district only during the season that they've been hired for. >> So, I'm just just make sure I have more because I want to make sure we go through the process. So, um because it's not soccer season, >> Mhm. >> she's not technically still considered an appointee. >> Correct. Or >> any any coach once their season is over. And could you speak and I don't know if it's if this is you or you Dr. Miller um as to just to make sure that like Miss Aubrey
034understands that like the board does not vote for like Okay. >> So per procedure per policy the school board does not vote on coaching appointments. The coaching appointments are brought as a recommendation from the interview committee to me and I make that determination. I hire coaches. So that's already occurred. Um there's already been an offer to the coach for this position who's already signed a contract. Um and it comes to the board as notification only, not for voting purposes. And is this a practice that we have started since July 1st and we're all positions? I believe we So I went back and checked. I had a great conversation with some student athletes this afternoon. Um it did not start July 1st, but it did start with basketball season. As you'll recall, I came on in
035July, as did the athletic director, and we hadn't quite aligned for soccer season. So soccer season did not take place that way but there was an alignment and it began in with the basketball season that um you have not voted on coaches since the actually before I started. So prior to hiring for soccer prior to July 1st um they've just come to you as notifications um for appointment >> and that is a procedure not a policy. >> Correct. And so we didn't actually vote on that or did we? I'm trying to remember what the process was. We did vote on we did vote to accept the procedure to not >> approve or be a part of the voting process. >> Voting process. >> Okay. Thank you for refreshing my memory. I knew we discussed it
036but I couldn't remember what the exact process was. So we did vote for that procedure to change from us approving the superintendent's decision to us not being a part of that decision at all. So that that was a procedural change new this year. we no longer >> have any say on those positions. >> I can tell you it um really hits home and um I do not feel welcome here after I've put so much into this district and you guys have been here and sat through other conversations that I've had and I've tried to be here. It feels a great deal like retaliation for other appointments that I did not accept be for the well-being of myself and my family. Um, and you're going to have these girls suffer. There's no goodbye period that we
037receive. Um, so I guess if that's it, then thank you for your time. Thank you for your what you have done over the years, Kristen. Um, do you girls need a break? Do you want to step out or you need to talk? >> Do you need to go out to talk? I'm going to move then report from the administration. I think with this that's justformational. Does anybody have any questions on these? I know I know. Does anybody have any questions regarding these four reports? >> Just a comment. I think that I I emailed all of you and I just want to make sure that you uh I also included that didn't make it into my report. The data on for winter assessments um and I'm happy to speak to anybody if they have any comments
038or questions about that separate >> I I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to read the assessment thing. Can you just give us a quick recap of that? >> Sure. Um grades K to 5 at the elementary school participate in um using the new main throughear assessment. um to benchmark where kiddos are at, where the growth is at, and then to make instructional decisions about next steps for the for instruction, which is really helpful. Um where you see the highlight on the last two columns, those were the grades and um either reading or math that show significant growth that shows that we're moving kids in the right direction. what we want to see from fall um to winter and then again from winter to spring. We want to see those numbers in the fall reduce
039on the red, yellow, and red, orange, and yellow bands and shift to the yellow, green, and blue bands. And you can see that um third grade is a great example. David and I were emailing, chatting about this. If you look at our reading, uh in the fall, we had um 14 out of the 20 students that were falling, you know, in the 50th percentile. I even went a little bit deeper this year. uh this winter and looked at the RIT range which says where kids should be for the time of year and you can see 20 out of 20 of the the third graders um all fell with where they're supposed to be in reading for winter season in the reading in the math we're not there yet and David and I had that conversation
040Tenny was part of that email conversation too it helps us to recognize where do we need professional development where do we need instructional conversation so that's what this data is used for it's not to suggest that um you know teachers aren't doing their job. It's not it it gives us important data about what kids can do independently on their own >> and and that's a large classroom as well. It's a good size. >> You should bring those numbers up. I think isn't there nine kids in there? 20. >> So yeah 20. >> So you can see that um reading we're doing well. Grades 3, four, and five. Again, we don't use the NEAS for K1 and two in this district, but for grades 3, four, and five, reading is definitely something that's really has the
041emphasis has been put in. I think the program that was selected, the magnetic um reading, which is going into magnetic literacy that will go into next year that um is working well for our students. The data is showing that it's working well. Math is something that Tenny and David and I need to talk more about and decide what that PD will look like. Is it is it the program? Is it just more PD about math instructional practices and things like that? So, it gives us a really clear picture of what we need to work on. >> Are they following a a program online or is it more on hands with books or is it a combination of both? >> I would say it's a combination of both. I think that there's teacher instruction. I think
042that there's work with manipulatives and and lots of different instructional techniques that can be used and then there's practice that can happen with the iPad or the the computer to practice those skills to be fluent. >> Is that the eye? >> Mhm. >> So, I was tickled. I was pretty happy with the results and I I I like looking at data. So I was pretty excited to share with David as soon as I finished and he had data to share from another source that they use which is right out of those programs that they can also do mid-year assessments. So it's kind of interesting to see how those the the results but this is based on state standards which I'd like to see as is I'm sure I think the other one is as well
043but just a different kind of source but the kids are doing well. So thank you. Any other questions before we move on? Thank you. Committee reports finance meeting. You want to do it or you want me? I know you wanted me to. Um, we we met um this is on 210, but it's basically the same wherever we go. Um, towns are up to date. We are going to present to Searsport and the 17th with the selectman. On the 23rd, we're going to Stockton Springs. Um hopefully tonight we're gonna bring forth a a budget to to show them um we're right on schedule with um um budget or how much we spent, how much we have left. Um it's all looking great. Um pretty much that's it. Can you think of anything else? Okay, that's that
044one. How about policy? That would be yours. >> Yes, that that is mine. Uh February 24th was our last meeting date and we um the notes are in your packet there. Um we looked at a number of different policies, some of which we uh Dr. Miller had discovered had um gone to first reading and then uh not a second reading. But somehow we determined that they don't need to come back for a second reading. And why was that, Dr. M? >> Because they weren't actually changed. They were just reviewed. I remembered. >> So they were remarked on the agenda as first reading when they um should have been just reviewed with the date and that would have suff sufficed. >> Yeah. And so we had a review of just a few other policies, not all
045that are on this list I don't believe in our notes. >> Correct. >> Um we got >> reflected down agenda. The other agenda. >> Yeah. Okay. >> And then we had some conversation around grading and conversions. uh between the different types of grading systems. And we do have some policies that we're bringing to you for a first reading as well as a second reading. I don't know if anybody has any questions about those, but we'll get to those when we get to that section. Did you want to add anything, Ruth? Nothing. Okay. Curriculum Julie. Um the curriculum committee met on March 3rd and we reviewed um the K12 draft for music library and ELA. Those um curriculums will be brought to the board at the April meeting. And in the meantime, Mr. Toothacre is also
046writing up a summary of what the high school and middle school use which is the Rubicon Atlas and so it's slightly different than what they use at the elementary school. So that way he can do a presentation and explain it all. >> Okay. >> Same standards just a different different house to >> I I noticed we kind of left off the Wald County Tech Center. Um I thought they met. >> They did. Um, is it can we can we do an adjustment to the agenda so that we know what's up to date? >> I'm sorry. >> No. >> Make a motion to add it. >> Second. >> All in favor? I'd like to hear the update. Julie, um, Julie, come on. So, um, Brunt Boots donated 200 pairs of work boots to all of the
047students that are in their shop program. >> It's called Brunt Boots. >> Brunt Boots. Okay. And then any remaining boots were offered to other students that that are not in shop classes. Um Travis and the principles have been working to update their attendance policy. Uh let's see. Many of the students have had opportunities to have tours throughout the month of February um to Dennis Food, the Gulf of Maine Institute, Mount View School where they heard um cook owner, author Aaron French give a presentation. Uh several students have started to take dual enrollment classes which will help them be ready for post-secary education. All of the sophomores here in Searsport have had a chance to visit Waldo County Tech and so far they have had 77 applicants for next year. The deadline is April 1st. >>
048Uh let's see. >> And what day is she coming for? >> Um the April meeting. >> Yes. >> April April 14th. >> April 14th to do a presentation. >> Yes. >> Yep. the draft budget was submitted to the board. Um, but it looked like what we were presented and what um was presented to Shandra was a little bit different. So that's good. Yeah. Yeah. Um there will be some increased costs um for new IT things and um new equipment that's needed for the culinary arts program and supplies and furniture for welding and auto collision. Cameras are all being moved to a new server to provide better viewing and security. Uh let's see. The board voted to approve um an increase in subpay and add a CIP program for the 2027208 school year as well as
049adding a cosmetology program for the 2027 2022 program year but it would be housed here in Searsport. So that was exciting >> at the school here. H >> yes I found Mr. newspaper has been working with the tech center to try to bring some collaborative >> courses toward this high school. One of the other mic >> the other thing that um I'll just interject you that we are working on the possibility we talked about this last year the possibility of an early childhood program. Oh, Mark just put on his headphones. I pushed my button. Sorry. So, good good check. Um, we're looking at the possibility of housing a three-year-old program. Maybe not next year, but maybe, but perhaps the following year at the high school and it could be part of the early childhood tech
050center um work that they could do internships there. So, that's something that Josh and I are also Yeah. working on and pretty excited about. >> I can sub at the cosmetology one. I still have a license. The board also approved digresses. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Approved hiring a facilitator to help with community visioning. Um, so that will be moving forward. Now I'm done. >> Julie Julie, do you know if there's you said there was 74 that have already applied for next year. Is that average? Is it up? Is it down? >> Okay. Thank you. Thank you. I will share though um Miss Ruth that um Searsport gets accolades for um the support from the principal and the assistant principal that encourages all students to go and check it out. >> Um the other two
051districts are not quite as open and um and make it easy for kids to go check out what's going on at the tech center to to be able to sign up. But Bill and Josh are avid supporters and encourage kids and and that gets mentioned. That's probably the fourth time just since July that I've heard the tech center comment on sir sport and the support they get from the administration here. So that's kudos to Josh. >> Yeah, I think that's so important because I know for a fact you have students attending that if they hadn't visited they would never have known what it had to offer. And I think it's just one of those pathways that we continue to keep open for our students. So, thank you for encouraging them to check it out. Thank
052you. Any other comments? Okay. And then new business, Walder County School Safety 2026 manual 8 agreement. >> So, this is mutual. This is a um an agreement that is signed I I um assume annually um by the district and I think this one is a 2-year agreement. I think they've changed to go for between 26 and 28 if I'm not mistaken. Um Lori and I and Mark attend this monthly meeting. um it's been very helpful as we're working toward completing our emergency school district and school emergency action plans. But this is the agreement that just says that um RSU 371 and um 20 as well as Winterport because they're also the the other school that's in Waldo County that if any of us needs any kind of mutual aid between each other and police, fire,
053ambulance, um that everybody comes together. And one of the examples if we needed um if there was an emergency and we needed buses for whatever reason that other districts without any charge to our district would be coming to our aid and vice versa that we would you know if something were happening in Mount View and they needed buses or whatever it was that um Sher and I would be contacted and we would arrange for that. So that's what this >> that's been going on for quite some time. >> Yeah. So it's just I need approval for to sign it. I didn't want. >> So, do you want this as a 2-year or is it going to go just as a mutual aid? Just as you wrote, >> I think it can go just as it
054is. If that's if you're fine with that, >> I'll make that in a form of a motion. >> Second. Thank you. >> Any more questions? All in favor? >> Thank you. >> Informational the staff evaluations. Nobody has any comments, questions. We'll pass that one. I just actually I just want to say thank you for updating and making sure that these are you know being used effectively and so on. So >> so again thank you to the the admin team the directors. Um you know one of the things that when I came on board I was having conversations we didn't have a real clear consistent form of evaluation pretty much districtwide. Um so we've been working really really hard. Principal said that you know they didn't necessarily have a handbook. So that's what you're seeing is
055you're starting to see us try to create these systems and put things together. Um there are more coming. There's a teacher handbook coming. There's a librarian. I had to pull out the librarian only because um the educational association wants to take a look at some of these documents a little bit more and make sure they go through their processes. Nothing's really changed except that we put it in handbook form and added a couple other documents like goal setting and things like that they just want to view. But these this is showing you that not only for our directors and our principles but also for central office staff, food service evaluation um we have maintenance we have lot you know you'll see custodians all of those things it's all there. So >> thank you very much.
056103 director's recommended for renewal. Um is this for the 26 27 year? It is for the 26 29 >> and on 114 would it be just for the 20 is that the six months that it goes to? >> Yes. Mark and I had spoken upon hire and knew that we were going to go in six six month increments and get to the first year and then we talked about what that would look like. So back to you in J. Yes. >> I'll make a recommendation to accept Matthew Littlefield as director of special education. Second. As with personnel, there'll be no conversation. So, all in favor? Unanimous. I'll make a motion to accept Josh Brady as director of maintenance. >> Second. >> All in favor? I make a motion for Tina Cook, the director of food
057service. >> Second. >> All in favor. And I'll make a motion to accept Mike Hancock, director of information technology for six months. >> Second. >> All in favor. Thank you. Next page, the first reading. We'll take a vote for JKAA physical restraint. That's in a form of a motion. Second. >> Any questions, comments? All in favor? Make a motion to accept JKA R procedures on physical restraint and seclusion. >> Second. >> Any questions? All in favor? Thank you. Make a motion to accept IKF graduation requirements. >> Second. >> Any questions, comments? All in favor? Thank you. Reviewed policies. No action needed on IKD honor roles. >> Could I just note that if that's going to come back before us for action? Um I couldn't open it. So I don't have that. I I don't know.
058The Google access isn't right. So if >> it will come back. It's just showing you that the committee reviewed it and no changes needed. >> But I'll change. We'll make sure that we'll link it. >> Any other comments? Next. Coachesformational. The high school softball coach will be Julie John Con. >> Chan, I was right. Chan, you're trying to get me all screwed up. Ruth, there's no action requ seven. FYI, budget vote. I'm going to make this in a form of a motion to approve the 20 7 budget amount for 12,400 >> 12. I like my 12,000 better. 12,41, how come that looks so different? There's an extra >> col. Is that the right number? 12,415,31.36. >> Okay. I knew I wasn't wrong. There was an extra thing about it in a really funny way. >>
059400 what? >> 15,000. >> Yep. >> $31.36. >> $12,415,31.36. And that's in a form of a motion. >> Second. >> Any questions, comments before we vote? All in favor? Thank you. God, that that really threw me, Laura, on that one. Thanks. >> Me, too. You started reading something. What is that? >> Um, set date and time for public budget validation meeting. Um, make it a form of motion for May 19th at 6:30 at the cafeterium. That's in a form of a motion. Second. Can I have the date again? >> May 19th, 6:30 at night. Any questions, comments? >> Tuesday. Tuesday. >> It is a Tuesday. >> Um, so, uh, our is that board me meeting after that then? >> Yes. Replacing the board meeting. >> Yeah. But usually we meet the next night on Wednesday.
060>> Um, >> good question. Yeah. To approve the >> Well, we'll approve this first. So, >> we have to come back and Yes, we do. Yes, that's what we usually do. We usually have this and then we meet the Wednesday after for our board meeting to approve it. >> Or is that in June? >> Is that the June? Sorry. >> Okay. Sorry. I can see she gave us a little puzzle Monday. >> Okay. So, we'll go Tuesday, May 19th, 6:30. All in favor? >> Did you get a second on that? >> Ruth did. Got it. >> Ruth did. Okay. I was just jumping ahead, Shandra. Sorry. Um, overnight field trip request one act plays. Make that in a form. Do we know when? Yeah, it's in our packet. 10.9, right? >> Yep. >> That's in
061our packet, right? >> Yeshua. >> Yep. >> Did you do that in a motion? >> Not yet. I was trying to figure the date out. We'll approve the overnight field trip in form of a motion. >> Second. >> Any questions, comments? All in favor? Thank you. Old business. I have to make a motion since I talked out of turn last week to resend my motion to appoint Shandanda Hodgen as the finance director, >> bus transport, >> transportation director, and food service director. I'm going to withdraw my motion. >> I will second that. >> Now, I'm going to make it in a form of a mo Oh. You're withdrawing your second. I'm withdrawing my second. >> Correct. I believe that we have to vote on that or we all set with just withdrawing it. >> All
062in favor? >> Not for withdraw. >> We don't. >> I think you can just say >> I didn't think we had to, but that's all right. >> Just want to make sure. >> Now, I'm going to make a motion to accept Shandra Hoden as the finance director and the transportation director. >> Second. >> All in favor? Thank you. Thank you. And that was to extend our contract. Okay. Anything else? Date and time and location. >> Wednesday, March 11th, budget work. Uh, >> yes. So, yeah, that's tomorrow. We're going to take that away. >> Correct. >> Go on. Tuesday, March 24th is a budget uh, sorry, no, a board workshop. >> Thank you. um wondering at start time that so we're doing strategic planning. We talked about this like in January about the same day of
063the Stockton meeting. >> No, that's the 24th. This is Tuesday the 24th. >> Tuesday we started >> if that's an ask from you. I'm suggesting 5:30 for a workshop, but I don't know if that works for people if we can do 5:30 or you'd like to go six. Microphones off. Okay. Um, but um, it's not. Let's see. >> I absolutely cannot get here before 6. >> Okay. >> I don't we have policy that night. >> I was going to say I policy on my calendar. >> I do now that I'm looking. >> And I think policy is going to take an awful long time. So 6:30. >> No, I meant >> H. I just meant we'll put it all together, but that's all right. >> Cancel policy, but we've been >> I know. Let's just
064keep policy. >> So 6:30. >> No, that's okay. 6:30 >> central office. Sorry. Um >> the focus is strategic planning setting goals coming up vision and mission. I'll be sharing an agenda. >> Okay. >> All right. And Tuesday, April 14th, finance at 6:00 and board at 6:30. Um March 17th, um select men's 6:00 is it? >> Yes. Would you like me? I don't need to put that on here though for our meetings. No, but I just want to make sure we got them all. >> What time is the Stockton one? >> March 23rd at 6:00, isn't it? >> I have 6:00 for Stockton, your town meeting. Is that correct, >> Marshall? Is that right? >> 6:00. >> Yes. Yes. On March 23rd. >> Yeah. 6:00. >> 6:00. >> And the same thing on the 17th
065Ruth, I believe, at 6:00 for Searsport as well. >> And that's it over here, right? Okay. Anything else we could add to this that we know? Motion to adjurnn. >> Second. All in favor? You >> I'm going to copy cut and paste all the way down to this. Denise. Denise. Denise. >> Okay, that was a good Masha. Do you need any more of these? Good job.
