Hi, good evening everybody. We'll call the April 13 school board meeting to order. It is now 6:16 and to advise you for the pledge of allegiance. >> I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Okay, that brings us to >> here. here. >> here. Thank you. And we've established a forum for tonight's meeting. For the adoption of the agenda, I do have a proposed um update. We do have district um admin here for district spotlight for academic services. So it support we would add that before um number eight to seven items a motion for so move >> any discussion having none >> yes >> treasure Gilmore >> yes >> trusty Sager

>> yes >> sher >> yes >> trusty will >> yes >> president re yes motion carries that brings us to gratitudes and I would open up the too. >> I'm just thankful for the awesome weather. That ability to garden, get outside has been awesome. So grateful for that. >> Just grateful for just the team coming back after spring break to sometimes be a challenge and a rejustment for students and uh and staff. So just appreciate all the hard work to make that as smooth as possible. Great. >> I'm grateful for the work that the facilities team did last week on projects across campus and also the technology group. They also worked on several things getting a jump on the uh summer work. grateful that people are back uh safely from their break and I'm grateful

that the hoop house arrived today uh which gives the facilities and maintenance team one more project to work on the assembly of that uh space. We're excited about that space is a neat opportunity for students building. >> Moving on, we have the high school representatives and we'd like to host the podium. Please for your updates. Share with us what's going on in high school. >> Hello. Um my name is Brley. Um right now we're only working on graduation and prom. We have prom on the 21st >> 24th 24th of April, sorry. Um that is going to be the theme. Um a night studded in stars which is more of a red carpet kind of old Hollywood um theme. And then you want to tell them about graduation. Okay. So for graduation we have um um

basically we're just moving with the we have a brand new stage. Um this is the first year that we're going to use that. Um, yeah. >> On a fun note, senior assassin started today, so that's why we have goggles. >> Yeah, I forgot mine at home. So, it's going to be fun. >> I saw that in the parking lot. I pretty soon. >> Yeah, I promise. I try to tell them to follow the rules, but some don't move them. >> Um, couple more things for graduation. Uh, we kind of talked about um flower arrangements. Um, we've talked about uh I mean we have our what's it called? Senior portraits on April 22nd to um prevent a big lineup after walking the stage. Um so those pictures are going to happen um during school hours on

the 22nd. Um that's when we're receiving our announcements. >> Yeah. And then um we are going to have a little something for um the lives that we've lost for um kids that were you know supposed to walk to stake with us. Um but our goal is to obviously um h hold them in our memory and um still show them as a part of our class um but not let it take away from the entire graduation ceremony for you know all those kids who are walking in still their graduation too. Um so we're checking in on that and then we just or we finished ticket sales for prom on Wednesday I think it is or Wednesday or Thursday. So then we'll have our final numbers of the total people coming. Is there any questions? >> Um

you should be hearing from me and Miss Kevy. Uh we do have a proposal coming for you guys. Um just a little bit of uh kind to get your guys' brains running. Um it's we want to um have like you know how they used to have dragon movies um where you go and sit in like a little thumbs up. >> Okay. Well, I'm just maybe um >> so our plan is we would like to have something like that except obviously they won't be driving. Um we'd want them we want to try and host it in the stadium. Um, that's something we're working along with Moffet, maintenance, everything like that. Um, and so it'd be a fundraiser. Um, and it' just be a good way to honestly get also our school out in the community. That's

one of our biggest things that we've been trying to do this year is getting our community more involved with our school and our school more involved with our community. So, we want to put on more events that can allow this community to be a part of our school and see what we do. Um, kind of get an idea of our culture as well. So you guys should be hearing us soon hearing from us soon about that as well. >> All right. >> Thank you very much. And prom is at the Pinnacle Center in Huntington, correct? >> Yes. Yep. Yep. So and that is at 8 until 11. >> So >> Yep. And then we've already finished guest forms. So that's been the or we've had the cut off for that. >> That was April 1st.

It wasn't a joke. >> No, it's so. And then um like I said, we'll finish prom ticket sales on Thursday. >> Thanks for your leadership. >> Yes. Thank you. I appreciate it. >> Thank you. >> All right. You guys have a great day. >> Thank you. Thank you. >> All right. Moving on to consent items. I would entertain a motion for as presented. >> Secretary K. >> Yes. >> Treasury Gilmore. >> Yes. >> Trusty Slayer. >> Yes. Shar. >> Yes. >> Bullet. >> Yes. >> President Reed, yes. Motion carries. That brings us to our for this meeting with Academic Services. >> Thank you. >> Sorry. >> Oh, wow. >> You mean younger age? >> Just I don't know if you could hear that. He said age before beauty. He's actually about six months older than

me, so just to set the record straight. So, uh, thanks so much for, uh, having us tonight. Um, just wanted to give you a few different, uh, updates regarding elementary academic services and then Ron will, uh, update you on some secondary academic services information. So, our elementary schools just wrapped up March's reading month. Uh, I know Cedarview did their annual Battle of the Books uh, during the month of March as well. We have the MSTEP window that just kicked off today. Uh, believe it or not, that you know what everyone wants to do after returning from spring break, take the old MSTEP. Um, and then that runs through May 1st for grades three through five. Uh, it's ELA and math for grades three and four and then actually all four subjects for fifth grade. So,

they they're the real lucky ones. Uh and then we have Acadians and the USNS window for young fives through fifth grade coming up May 4 through 8. And I Ready uh for literacy and math for grades K8 is uh May 1 through May 21st. So lots of testing going on in the in the coming months. And then uh for summer opportunities, we're going to do something very similar to last year where we're going to have um the kids read now program. We'll have some family engagement nights and we've added a camp invention which is a um that one's one that parents would pay for their students to attend. It's a week-long event and it's a STEM style camp. So um we'll be interested to see how much interest there is in that. Um but it's

a pretty cool thing. I've seen it uh in a previous district. So I think uh our kids that attend will have a good time. Uh, and then we're going to be putting together some plans for the dyslexia law, which goes into effect in 2728, but we have to begin planning for that this coming year. And so, Kristen Albert is leading a K12 vertical alignment team, uh, which is reviewing all those requirements and the gaps that we have, uh, where that new legislation exists. So, she's working diligently on that along with some of our teaching staff. So, I'll turn it over to Ron unless you have questions about elementary assessments. All right. Thanks so much. >> Thanks, Dan. uh secondary as well is kicking off their time the testing not only the MSTEP but PSAT 9

and 10 um 8 n and 10 actually um along with the SAT and then the ACT work keys went away this year as far as the actual test is now called the wind test and if you're following along some of the legislation they're actually trying to remove that test alto together so we'll see if that happens in the future Um, but I want to wish my very best to the students as they set to take those assessments that they just do their very best on them. And uh I also want to thank uh all the people who work behind the scenes to get um everything orchestrated for that. There are a lot of regulations and just planning that has to go into that for it to take place. So from administrative staff to support staff

to um student services with accommodations and 504 plans and also Erica Makulla who um is the district coordinator for the testing of of all of our students. So um a lot of work done in that but I hope most importantly again that our students take them seriously and do very very well on them. Uh I had the opportunity about three four weeks ago now to uh go to the a science CTE advisory committee meeting and uh had a wonderful opportunity there to present them with the plans for the hoop house and then also our thinking around um the tractor purchase and uh actually had a representative from the alumni group there as well who um all those Both of those groups fully support what is being planned for and looked at for that area. Um

I'm excited to say that the hoop house was delivered this morning and um Dick and Diane and all the maintenance facility staff did a wonderful job over spring break uh prepping the site for it. So now, weather permitting, um they will get on that this um coming week uh to start erecting that and get it in place. It'll take a little bit of time to do that, but it is a quality hoop house um that will, you know, serve our purposes um immensely. And then with the tractor part, also um refined some of the purchase on that and got the numbers for that. So, we'll be moving forward with the next steps um in that process probably um doing that this week. Uh middle school, we have talked a little bit about this in the

past that the science department is looking at some changes of our curriculum provide or excuse me, our textbook provider. We follow the state science curriculum in that um in GSS. Um and we're at the point where we're looking at some um areas to pilot um amongst the two that we've narrowed it down to um just a unit out of each one of those uh each semester and an area that isn't going to be something that uh is of concern with anyone um to make a final decision okay from their site visits. as you might recall that they went to Sparta and Kent City uh where both of those curriculums are implemented one each. Uh we're also looking at Naviance which is our career college and life readiness online um program where students record their EDP

choices. they're able to take various assessments as to their aptitudes and uh skills and abilities that they have and kind of lines it up to different careers. There's a lot of videos on there about, you know, what does this profession do and all, but um there is a better product out there that we're looking at very closely which is supported by our county CTE director and um we're taking a a really close look at that. Um, and right now so far it uh is appearing that it'll be a better product that'll actually help the district save some funds as well because the CTE program um can help cover some of those costs for us. AP is having a few changes that have come through here and most recently um which may necessitate a textbook purchase

for our AP statistics program and uh we are working on that to and may have to come to you with that um in June or even July to have ready for our program this fall. Um another major change is in the area of world language. they're actually are going to have a portion of their examination which will be like a projectbased uh research piece that they provide all the resources and the students then have to put it together that is really more of a training for the teacher that uh Mrs. homes um for that component of it. And then we of course at this time of year we already have um SL supply budgets out to buildings and uh people are pulling together all the needs for the 26 27 school year um as that

process will get started here um after July 1 and making those orders um once we have a final budget and materials and that. So, um, that's in process and then some summer curriculum work in some areas that we'll be taking a look at and planning out for that. So, that's the secondary report. Um, oh, I one last thing is this Thursday we have the Celebrate Cedar Springs event for our students, our senior students, and uh, I appreciate all the support from our community and and helping with that. uh the city of Cedar Springs um especially in the in the district library helping us with some space that day. So I uh want to make sure that I recognize them for all that they're doing too and helping us. All right. Any questions for me at

this point? >> Just picture that. Is that going on that slab that's over next to the coar is where it's going to go or is going somewhere else? No, this is actually going to be located um just outside the egg science room. >> Oh, yeah. Okay. >> Um you can see it prepped there from the cafeteria. We're actually going to try to return that to the natural green space that it was at one time and um looking at uh moving those buildings and the recycling piece that's um also out there um to get it in a more appropriate location and all that. But the greenhouse or excuse me, the hoop house will be there. Um it is the style though too that as we the program develops the students u saes develop and we're ready

to have more space then we will take a look at the actual rigid structure of a greenhouse and all that that entails up in that space and then possibly move this hoop house over in that location as well. But that's future planning that you know the program and the needs and that will drive what we need to do. So yeah. >> Can I ask just out of curiosity >> if the vision is to go through the hill area by the cold storage? Is there a reason we not to where it could eventually end up? >> It sounds like that's your explain. >> Yep. It could eventually end up there. The reason why it's being placed where it is right now is at teacher request. Yep. Just to have it at that location um for ease

of um getting this started out cuz there is a lot to starting out a hoop house too. Um and so that is the the reason why it's being placed where it is right now. There wouldn't be anything though that would hold it back from going up by the other space when that time comes around too. So >> on demand the second group house going up >> you know by the egg farm would also be an option. >> Thank you. >> All righty. Moving on to go to our agendas for discussion. First up we have financial update. >> All right. uh attached are the uterate budget reports for the general fund on a cash basis. Um I also did uh last month I mentioned I was working on the bond expenditure report. So that has been

uploaded. Um that's really kind day from the 2020 series one bond through what we spending as of March 31st. So it includes all the uh projects that we ran through triangles as well as owner purchased items and go shows you which building which project those expenditures went through. So pretty small print had quite jam it all in. Um but have any questions please let me know. um for regarding the 2026 refunding bond results. Um back when we started discussing this I think in October that the initial estimate was around 100 $130,000 savings for the the taxpayers of Cedar Springs public schools. uh that kind of eb and flowed as the interest rates changed over the last five to six months, but we actually uh the actual net savings for the district were about twice as

much as the highest projection. So it actually came in at just under $286,000 net savings for the taxpayers. So, um, a pretty good result on the the refinancing of the 2006, uh, rebunding bond. Um, and then finally, just an update on the two ongo ongoing court cases that we're keeping an eye on. Um, the section 31A mental health. Uh, the court of appeals did hear oral arguments on that last week. Um, and Scott just shared with me earlier today. It sounds like um the plaintiff which would be the school districts did not win that appeals court uh ruling. So it is quite likely that the districts will be uh trying to appeal to this Michigan Supreme Court. Then the final if if districts were to lose that appeal um then the federal lawsuit would federal

courts would look at a federal side of it. Um so it's not totally uh dead yet. It's moving up to the potentially the Michigan Supreme Court and then depending on what they do it would move on to the federal courts. So uh we're still kind of waiting and seeing on that. uh that a lot of people have advised the districts that did opt into receiving the 31A like I know Greenville opted in know they were probably allocated half a million dollars initially while they ended up receiving about $ 1.5 million but they had been advised do not spend above that $500,000 because and depending on how this plays out in courts the district might put themselves in position position where they have to pay back a million dollars. Um obviously think that it would be

a tough pill to swallow. So, uh we we'll see how it plays out. Uh the next one I keep on our radar is House Bill 6053. Um, back in March, the Michigan Supreme Court did issue an order uh to schedule oral arguments this coming May um following the ruling that the lower court ruling that all bills which included that the the House is currently holding on to uh all which includes House Bill 6058, all those bills must be presented to the governor. So if the Supreme Court hears those arguments and ultimately rules that those bills have to be presented to the government, there's a few options that would happen. But um if the governor were to sign that, there will be a pretty significant impact on our um 20 well potentially 24 25 26 and

definitely our 27 or 26 27 budgets. um our health insurance costs would go up roughly potentially around 10% a little over a little north of 10%. So that'd be about a $450,000 increase to our uh insurance expenditures and then it would likely result in um more of our staff members opting into select health insurance. So instead of electing cash in loom, they might say, "Hey, this is now a better this is a better deal than my spouse's health insurance. So I'm going to forego that $6,000 $7,000 cash in L. I'm going to elect full family and then that's really a pretty big jump in our health insurance expenditure. So we want to keep a close eye on this one. My gut would tell me that the governor would not sign it because it not only

impacts K12, but that House Bill 1658 impacts all state employees and the state doesn't have the funds in the general fund budget to foot that bill. So, the likelihood of the governor passing it is pretty low. but she is also will be turned limited out uh at the end of this year. So it' be somebody else's problem to deal with. So I have to keep an eye on that one as well. Any questions on that? >> Yeah. Yeah. It makes the budgeting nice and clean, right? Moving on discussion item B, we begin with some board policy recommendation. >> So over break, I had the opportunity to meet with our NEOA rep. Um Niola is a is a big corporation, big company has regional representatives. Typically, it's a retired superintendent or someone who knows the region

and and knows the policies. anytime a new uh set of recommendations comes down from a giola the rep always sits down with member districts and just talks through the different policies. Uh one of the things that I did ask him to do during that meeting was just to review the language um that in our proposed student expression peaceful assembly and demonstration policy proposal and um he didn't see any concerns with it. Um, I shared with him, you know, ideally we'd love to be able to take some of the wordiness out of the policy and his response was, you know, if you look across the board in policy language, typically there's more language than less language uh because that's the the hook or the nature of the legal documents that are referenced in it. So, um,

you know, he he was going to continue to review it to see if he had any recommendations, ways that we could fit it out a little bit. Um, but his initial take was that it was solid. Uh, I also included a draft of some administrative guidelines. Those would be the rules by which we would uh apply the policy. Again, it's a proposal. Um, those would be the things from which we would build the language of our um handbooks. uh handbook language uh from the administrative guidelines. Um and also use the administrative guidelines to help uh train our administrative staff and our teachers around how you would implement how we go about implementing uh that proposal or that policy if it was supported by the board. Uh a couple things in regard to the actual policy

language. Uh the policies themselves as recommended. There are four policies um that are included in this this spring's collection. Uh one is 2417 that comprehensive school health education policy. 2418 which is the sex education policy. Um 5336 care for students with diabetes. That's a new policy. And then the last is 8655 which is the specialized transportation for students with di with students with IEPs. Those are all for information only. None of them are required for districts to adopt them. U and what Kevin said is the he doesn't know of any districts who are accepting any of those recommendations. And so you know um from my perspective I've been looking in that direction as well. um the uh care for students with diabetes. We already have language around the administration of medication uh that's applied on

a on a daily basis and working well. Similarly, the specialized transportation policy, you know, the the rules are already spelled out in an IEP if the student has specialized transportation needs. And so, you know, Kevin's perspective, what most districts are, uh, kind of landing on is why have additional language if it's already covered in another another app. Um, so other than that, um, are there any questions uh, regarding the content of the spring update? Um, again, we would hope to maybe uh, consider approval moving forward uh, with these recommendations in May. Uh, unless there are further questions before table uh, if you would like some additional information. We'll have the April 203. >> Thank you. >> All right, moving on to item C 2026 27 student handbook for vision proposals. So, uh, in that bundle

of proposals, I did add a new, uh, uh, handbook. Uh, it's item seven. It's the Cedar Springs Virtual Academy handbook. Um, and so that's not up for action this evening. Um, but we do have um the campus kids handbook proposal, the elementary handbook proposal, the middle school handbook proposal, the high school handbook proposal, and the new beginnings handbook proposal up for action this evening. uh as long as the board doesn't have any substantive questions regarding any of those five documents. Uh the other two uh the other three documents the early childhood center preschool handbook there are no proposed changes from 2526 26 27 uh similarly the athletic handbook code of conduct no changes are proposed and then the transportation handbook no changes have proposed. So, are there any questions around the five the campus bids,

the elementary handbook, middle school, high school, new beginnings, um that we're seeking approval for tonight or you have any questions about the virtual academy uh handbook? That's a body of work that um uh Kristen Warden has been uh Kim Warden, sorry, Kimberly Bordon has been working extensively on and doing an outstanding job. uh she's uh reached out and established partnerships with several other districts within West Michigan um who have virtual programs. She's got a great relationship with West Ottawa, another really solid relationship with the team in Hamilton. Um, and so they've been very free to share their resources. And so it's really put him on a good trajectory uh to put some quality work out there uh that's clear uh that's uh inclusive uh that will really help guide our students and families as they

consider um the Cedar Springs Virtual Academy for their options in fall 2026. >> Yeah. My only question is going to be did you add that later because I don't remember it or I thought I missed it. So you already >> Yeah, I don't have it on for action because I didn't want to. I just got it and so I just got it added to the or this is the first time you've read it. Had an opportunity to look through it. >> Keep moving on. Thank you for that. Item D, the 2026 bond refunding ratification resolution. >> I'll let Marti take the lead on this if this gets this finance this pulse uh really jumping. Um >> yeah, so kind of as I discussed earlier, the bond sale went very well. This is a formality already.

the the board has already taken action uh on a number of resolutions authorizing the sale of the uh 2026 refunding bonds. So this is essentially uh accepting the results of that bond sale last month and allowing the district to accept bids from uh it is a brownstone investment group was the purchaser of the bonds. Um total purchase price was just just north of $4.5 million. um proceeds being used to um essentially repay the 2016 refunding bonds as well as to cover the cost of the issuance. Um and then the net savings is that $286,000. Any questions? >> Moving. We have the facilities update. Yeah. So, um, like I said, over spring break, the facilities team was on on campus throughout the week working on a variety of projects. Um, they, uh, worked significant put a

significant amount of energy in to draining the lake. Uh, that was also known as a catch basin over by Cedar View. Um and the team and Diane acquired a a large pump and actually physically pumped the water out uh so that we could actually get in there and and take a look to see why the drain wasn't working as it was originally intended. So, um we've got some clarity on that. We're hopefully going to be moving forward with a good solution um because that was not intended to be a catch basin uh that retained water for a lengthy period of time. I don't know if they caught any fish while there was draining the pond um or the lake small lake uh but they definitely were headed in the right direction and and seeing some

uh improvements in that area. Um the other piece that is included tonight uh in the facilities update is um some numbers uh regarding cost of demolition uh to the hilltop building um and uh triangle construction. We received seven bids uh total and um or excuse me, six bids total and um they vetted through the candidates. uh their recommendation um is to move forward if we are going to go in that direction um and accept the bid um for a total of uh from Beerline uh group uh their total uh cost of demolition is uh $363,000. Um, if you jump down to um the next page of the triangle uh package, uh, excuse me, two pages down, uh, it talks about some additional, um, costs. Actually, on the first page, I apologize, on the cover page,

uh, it goes through some additional costs that, uh, triangle is factoring in for the total, uh, cost of the project. So, um, allowances for curve, gutters, and sidewalks. uh to replace and and to clarify some uh some pedestrian travel zones through that area. Um they provided a utility allowance, a shut off allowance, an unsuitable soil allowance. Uh and so the projected number um you know that the triangle is looking at is $813,000. So the total cost of the project would not exceed $813,000. Um if again that's the direction that we go. Um it's interesting you know you the information that Marty had shared earlier tonight where it talked about the the total cost for the beach project was $21.3 million. Um, so you put that in perspective, uh, brand new, beautiful school, um, state-of-the-art design

really built and intended for, uh, a K5 student uh, in 2026. Um, going back to information that we shared back in February and reviewed again in March, um, you know, the cost of the projected cost of renovating that hilltop building. Um if if we use the numbers that we used with Red um and just apply that same square footage multiplier to the square footage in Hilltop, you know that number is 16.9 million. Um assuming that both buildings were of the same uh initial state, both buildings are not of the same initial state. And so, you know, projections or the actual projections that Triangle is is kind of putting out there and GMBB is supporting is somewhere between, you know, 22 and $25 million just to bring that building up to se. Um, and so just

it's just a good reminder, a good reflection that, you know, if if that building is one that we do want to renovate, um, when we do go to the voters, uh, with a proposal for a bond vote, which is what we would have to do, um, know that that number is going to be, you know, 22 to $25 million to renovate. Um, and the reality is we really don't have an intended use for it at this point in time. So, um, you know, even a if the community would support the bond, um, it's just a it's a big ask. So, um, we're going to, you know, provide you an opportunity if you've got questions tonight. Um, you know, I walked through the building with Heidi last week. If any of you want to go through

a building, I can set that up. You can walk through it. Um, um, yeah. And then we would hope to look for some action uh at our meeting on 23rd of April if possible. We don't want to wait too long. We can wait as long as we need to, but if we can get this approved, you know, within the next couple of weeks, uh then we'll be able to um so a secondary part of the work is replacing the road that goes from the intersection uh by beach outpass ID rehab to Northland Drive. that's going to be a heavy traffic zone uh if and when a demolition at Hilltop is going to be part of the action plan. So, we don't want to rebuild that road and then put a lot of heavy construction uh

equipment on the roads. So, ideally, uh we would start doing the demo at Hilltop if that's the direction that we want to go in, uh mid to late May, early June. Uh so that that would the project would be right in line with the other paving projects that we're doing on campus. Uh Beerine thinks that you estimate it's going to take three to four weeks total to take the building down and then get the site uh graded back out. Um so it's not going to be a an all summer long project. They can definitely take that space down and we can get to the roads and and tidy that package up nicely. Um but we would need to have some action with this money debt in order to get that out in the city. No,

I I think uh a lot of the uh contractors that we we will have on site for the phase two uh work this summer, they would be able to they'll already be on site and they would be able to do some of the the curb gutter the sidewalk allowances which if they don't have to redeploy it's cost savings for the district. They're already here on campus. So, um, if if that's the direction the board decides to go, we would have some cost savings associated with that of utilizing some contractors that they bid on it work already. We could do a change order to increase their contract and we would have some savings because they don't have to read their their people here and equipment. So, >> yeah, I think my my only like concern is

maybe communication with the community. I I know you've talked about it before, just making sure we're communicating. Um, I think for those of us who have been in conversation, it was pretty clear what needs to happen. Um, but I would anticipate a lot of questions and potential push back with the community. And I'd love to see an information video or something that would be easily sharable or could go on social media or could be emailed or texted out. I just I I would anticipate a lot of questions and I just want to be equipped to respond with facts and numbers. Um because again I think once you see them it's it's pretty clear. I don't think it has to be I don't think it has to be a controversial topic, but if you don't know

that information and you're just hearing about the demolition, I think there is the potential for it to become a big topic. >> Yeah, it's it's difficult without a local media outlet. Um I did meet with the editor of the book. Um, I had six uh virtual uh community forums uh specifically looking at uh facility updates um back in March. Um there's a recording of one of those forums on uh our district YouTube page. It's been viewed 40 times. Um over the course of the six nights, I had probably 30 individuals who uh tuned in. It's a small sample size relative to the uh to the entire population or the community. >> Well, and I guess that's why I was wondering about even just a short video clip because I I know the turnout is is

generally low. >> Yeah. And there's a video clip already out here. Um it's already online, >> but it's the full medium, isn't it? >> It's about a 30 minute clip. >> Well, that's what I mean. I mean, I'm just suggesting is it possible to do a twominute video, a 30 second to two minute video with those highlights? >> You bet. I think that's a really good idea. Even if it's a a voice over or a PowerPoint >> Yeah. >> presentation with just some numbers and some >> wonderful music in the background. Even if it's not a voice, just here's the hard data facts we want because you're right. Yeah, you don't want blindsided people. I feel like they'll feel blind side even though this has been public. >> Yeah, it's tough. I mean, we've been

talking about this for two years. >> Yeah. Um >> Yeah. >> So, there'll be some who are blindsided. I mean, I I do agree. We need to take every step possible to get the message out as much as we can. >> Yeah. Well, again, I I mean, I just think we're helping ourselves. I mean that >> could be approached for >> I mean I've already met him once but >> no >> there was a good article about community on the back side of the vehicle this month was really good >> maybe that was a hint get involved but Um, >> yeah, they can publish at any time now. Got the online. >> Yeah, I can reach back out. >> That's right. Sorry. >> We actually reached out asked if anyone usually has any like share

with you. So, There's going to be there's going to be emotion. Remember that because of the facts of how old everything is and we have all that >> but again the photos are show it can be very emotional in social media for sure. >> Absolutely. Is there metals? Oh sorry we had talked opportunities about reclaiming some brick things like that. Um I think some of us were bouncing off some ideas of like the old hardwood floors. That's could some of that be saved and used in wood shop and >> things like those be really neat. >> Yeah. >> Yep. >> There might be some wood floors but walking through it there's very other little architectural thing that stands out. If you look at school houses that have been redone for housing and things, this is

pretty straight and narrow. There isn't a lot of things there. So, and the other if it comes up in any of conversations that you might get with community members about housing, this building is too far off. And an easy thing to do would be to um search uh apartment buildings in Corona that have been redone in a building similar condition to this once redone. is not experiencing severe loss and some of those go well but you have to gauge what that building is at this point has a lot of that we are looking to take action on the 23rd we that's Thursday meeting we put some business items on there because we had an expulsion meeting added on in there anyway So do you think that the board is so comfortable with that? >> I

would be a video a short truly no more than three minutes of just the facts. So I think one board meeting there was like options. You could do this, you could acquire this, you could do like before I was here I think watched it. >> Yeah. >> Just to reiterate some of those things but for all the hardbacks of costs with it. I think that's what needs to be seen. >> And even the frequently asked questions, why can't we do housing? You know, just I mean, I think it can be very simple and brief. I just >> Yeah. I really think we're helping the whole district by just just giving some of those questions and answers. But yeah, but I I I mean I can appreciate Yes, we have been talking about it for years.

Um but I think the general community is not aware. They're not searching for it. >> Yeah. >> They just wonder. >> Okay. >> No. Cool. Thank you. >> Okay. All righty. Moving on to discussion item F. K County Sheriff's Office video sharing user. >> Uh so this is the document that I shared uh with you uh last month. Um, it's just the agreement, the language that, uh, we would put into place between the district and the Kent County Sheriff's Office, uh, for them to be able to have access to our camera systems in the event of a mass casualty emergency or a curriculum incident. So, um, they had kind of a a boilerplate draft. Uh, our team looked through it, made some recommendations. Um and then we also worked with Marshall Gray from Park Hill.

He reviewed it uh and also agreed upon the agreed with the recommendations our tech team made. And so your blessing, we'd like to move forward um with this agreement um working with Kent County Sheriff's Office to get that system implemented and up up and running for Cedar Springs Public Schools. Any questions? See that on action moving on field trip request 2026 FFA regional office or retreat. >> Yeah. So there's a second read on this. Uh it's the FFA officer retreat. Um it's very straightforward. Uh our students have participated in the past. Um so we're just seeking your support and your blessing on questions. We move on special Kent Intermediate Association of School Boards Directors Ballot. >> Yeah. So, um the Kent Intermediate Association of School Boards has a board of directors. Um there uh currently

are um four members on the board and they have two vacant seats. Um so they're they have a new uh election coming up. Uh there are four individuals running and um the each board uh within Kent County is being asked to vote for not more than four of the individuals uh who are running for the board of directors. This group is uh the group that works to put together the um dinners the awards uh event that we went to a couple weeks ago back in March. Um so it's just a a group that kind of functions within the county uh that has representatives from each uh or from each region uh within the county within those individual school boards. Um, and so they're just seeking your support for uh four. They're asking for you to

choose the four candidates from the list of four individuals. Uh, and this is not up for uh action this evening. It's just was a first read. We'll seek action at the meeting. >> Any questions? So the first document is the ballot itself. The be the second document is just some bio information for each of the four individuals. All right, we'll move away from discussion and we move to a time in our meeting where we have public comment. This would be a time the public can address the board of education. We wouldn't be having a discussion. will be listening and superintendent Smith will be following up at a later date. Mrs. Best, do we have anyone asking to address the board? >> No. So, okay, moving we'll close public comments as answered. Moving on to action

for this evening. Our first action items for this evening are the handbook. Exactly what he hadn't seen before. Do I have the objections if I call that handbook? All right. So I would entertain a motion for approval of the 202627 student handbook revision propulsions for campus kids handbook, elementary handbook, middle school handbook, high school handbook and beginnings handbook as presented. >> So support. >> Any discussion? Having none, Secretary Patt? >> Yes. >> Treasure Gilmore. >> Yes. Trusty Schneider. >> Yes. >> Trusty Shner, >> yes. >> Trusty Willlet, >> yes. >> President Reed, >> yes. Motion carries. >> That brings us to action item B, which is the 2026 bond refunding reification resolution. I believe that it's explained in the title. So, I'm going to call that as presented. Do I have a motion? >> Any

discussion? Having none, Secretary Gen? Yes. >> Treasurer Gilmore. >> Yes. >> Trusty Slagger. >> Yes. >> Trusty Schoffner. >> Yes. >> Trusty WLED. >> Yes. >> President Reed. Yes. Motion carries. >> Action item D. The Kent County Sheriff's Office video sharing user agreement agreement. Again, that stands explained within the title of the motion. I would entertain a motion for as presented. >> Support. >> Any discussion? Having none, Secretary Ben, yes. Treasury Gilmore, yes. Slagger, yes. >> Sher, yes. Trusty Willlet, yes. >> President Reed, yes. Motion carried. Our last action item for this evening is the field trip request for the 2026 FFA regional officer retreat. Again, that is fully explained within the title of the motion. I would entertain a motion for as presented. >> So move support. >> Discussion having none. Secretary Pattley. >>

Yes. Gilmore. >> Yes. >> Trust Swagger. >> Yes. >> Trusty Shner. >> Yes. >> Trusty Willlet. >> Yes. >> President Ve. Thank you for those. Okay, that brings us to communications for this evening um for the board of education. Here is an actual letter that was received like to read it about the correspondence that we also had in our board packet. if you wanted to. Um, the two things I forgot to mention on health talk is we did have a community person ask about a time capsule and we did have a passport present and Bren, thank you for that. That took a metal detector and purch and I do believe too we do not have any corners. Why don't you call me Jeff as board member? We don't have any cornerstone. I mean there's nothing

anything there either. Well actually >> yeah from um my desk there are two items to our facts that are linked in board books. One is a copy of the letter that Heidi received a hard copy of. Uh and then there's also an article or a second document um included in your board book which is the uh response from Matt Moffett to uh the Michigan high school budget association. So you can see uh that Matt is on it and working with MHSA uh in regard to the emissions. All righty. Moving forward with planning, we have our special meetings started as a disciplinary hearing on April 23rd, but it's broadened because we have some district business to attend to. >> Um, so that's on April 23rd and we're moving it back here, not correct. Correct. It will

not in the administration do here. >> And they've been published on Wednesday. >> Uh, 6:15. No. event. >> And then the other piece uh in the um list the calendar events is the list of district events that went back to the beginning of the year. So you'll see as we wind through uh there's a lot of things that have been crossed out uh in this next stretch of um there's a one page left of events coming it's going to be fast and furious as we launch through the second half of April and May is going to whisk away like that and it'll be 256 will be in the books. So just the main things coming up though you want to be a part of any of the events and activities >> and remember does anyone

else welcome representative staff to ask goodby and having no more business before the board don't have a light on the sun with us danger
