so we'll go ahead and get started with our agenda for tonight's meeting for the august 23rd [Music] with me indivisible thank you he's excused slater here vice president shafner president here thank you and we have a standard form for the meeting next on our agenda we have new options [Music] yes i was grateful to see administrators out front this morning i saw penn and chris out at the middle school as i was dropping off here so i know many more are involved in outside the buildings too so i just really appreciate helping them make that process go smoothly and just welcoming our students i have to say um also with that but then orientation last week my daughter for freshmen and it was so smooth and the rules were explained very clearly um and so
that was really nice and then also just a gratitude to put out there that we have a couple of graduates that are actually serving over the school right now so we can just keep them i'm grateful that we have people in our community that are so passionate about their kids that they're that we have so many people here with us [Music] it was very nice thankful for all the staff and support staff and administration for just a good kick um it's very exciting to see all the kids um get to know our faces and that this is the bus i'm on and go forward i thought that was really cool i'm grateful to have students uh she just graduated last year and she said we can't we set her up very grateful for those men
and women [Music] yes all right so thank you um this was a continuation from last meeting uh if you had the time to look in the court book i included an email exchange i had not only and so this is just an assurance that this there's no cost for the district to join this litigation there's no there's no if there's no recovery the district will pay nothing and then any recovery the fees and costs so again assurance that the district if there was a recovery would use this these funds toward some kind of some type of movement to help curb you know smoke [Music] if there's any other questions just be clear there's no chance that there's an expense in the district correct that is what that's what i'm assured of here and i put
this i gave everyone a little packet tonight because projector thank you so you can see i kind of pasted my email communication that i had here i'll do that as part of an 11 hour day or 12 hour [Music] right so um also as part of that package i have a bid recap and then i have the actual uh project cost approval document from triangle here so we can look through those uh but basically this was the high school renovations and then the construction of our new eight classroom link on the northwest side here which will actually begin within the next month i'm going to have kent to jump in and help me on this uh as we move through it so the first few i would say slides but pieces here on the on
the bid recap show i highlighted the different parts so on the first page you can see the new um the new space that will be right outside of the cafeteria that's going to be a multi-purpose space and then the new classrooms where the existing office currently uh the next page you can see it's again these are small right off blueprint where the new eight classrooms will be four on top four on the bottom uh and then the next page shows the new sidewalk and kind of the landscape out there around that edition and then finally the fourth one um shows where the media center is now that's going to be the new counseling center and offices so just a little look at the blueprints there there's a lot more that we can certainly share everybody
has interest and wants to see that uh but then the next pages show all the different work categories um the bidder that uh has we'd like you to to approve this evening those are all businesses that are local here what our budgeted amount was what the bid amount came in at and then the delta the uh over or under what that budget projection was so in aggregate we were under our pre-bid budget [Music] this is a 8.9 million dollar project before contingencies and other fees that are factored in and we're in the bottom so the total amount for the board to approve tonight is on the triangle bit package excuse me that award amount would be nine million nine hundred and sixty nine thousand dollars and again that's under the 10.2 million dollars budgeted for
this very large first series project high school so there may be some things as you look through this that are not included that were in the scope of the bond [Music] interview process with each one of these companies to assure that everything was understood they knew what we were doing what we needed then we were going to get products on time if there's difficulty in getting them we wanted to order asap we don't want delays we want to keep the headlights that was a very very good news one comment that did come through today from one of the contractors over the weekend at the trails project they complemented chris and ken and the team for all the work that they did ahead of time back in january to make sure that we had the necessary
equipment to be able to complete that project at trails there are very there's a significant number of districts around west michigan around the state who are not in a place where we are with completed projects and acquire the equipment and store it as we did so that we could meet our deadlines and open today so chris and ken the triangle team as well as the gme team for that foresight and the ability to delays i know some districts that are having to open certain schools a few weeks later as a result um there are concerns out there right now and so to what ken said you know we're issuing these and we might not we might not need some of this equipment until you know early next year february march and april but we will
we've given the clearance as soon as we have more people to purchase those items of the uh of the bid recap college concrete work by purchasing your your budget and your bid amount are the same but you're showing uh 32 000 under budget not assuming that's um fourth line down on the bid recap polish concrete yup that is a typo so is the 32 000 under budget the correct input yep so if you jump over to this triangle bit package yes fourth one down basis let's see cross country third one down here uh burgess a little bit more difficult to read [Music] yeah i'd have to pull up so 168 is the bit amount so the i'm going back to my page now um 193 094 was the budget 168 is the bid amount of
kind of math that's right and that's to that point um you know what what we're approving tonight is this big document this is the official one and it does show the contingency cost this was just more of an informative just because this is difficult as long as i get the right numbers on there thank you i appreciate it jeff a lot of that sometimes it's different there's very little posted process for requesting them on what they fit and how they put it so we get all that straightened out and then we get all of this stuff the money-wise that comes right down move on to the discussion so after a meeting on the 9th of august we submitted the draft of the document that you considered on the night they got back with us towards
the end of last week so we did not have a lot of time to make their recommended corrections and then give that back to them and then get back to us and so tonight really is just an update we're still working with our legal team to make sure that we dotted our eyes and crossed our t's and have everything appropriate for the mind but i would anticipate us having a cleaner document for you to consider for the september um [Music] there or is just fix it um ready to go and we do have only um one person who sees one and i keep my little three minute timer here and then [Music] here this evening is elizabeth um [Music] are focused on them we recognize that you are the top position of the health department
[Music] we [Music] yes is [Music] which is political action it's based off population models that are based on assumptions [Music] is [Music] speech [Music] [Applause] so for a point of record the recording the equipment that we use to record the board meetings it's a very simple uh microphone that you can use in a conference call and a camera that we use the two systems work together uh when there's a loud burst of sound in the room the mic shuts down similar to a surge suppressor in your home and so last week the two weeks ago we were accused of editing [Music] that was not the case we simply when we do the recording i draw it in and i push it out to youtube so if you're watching the recording there's a cut from the
sound after noise like that please know that it's nothing that we're doing it's simply the system doing the work that the system was designed to do so the next person who's going to share about china is melissa but i want to pose a solution to part of the mass mandate and i don't know how to start it except for starting it here so from what my understanding is [Music] okay we don't make the rest of the general public do something because johnny has do something to the rest of the [Music] so let's write a box not everybody else what i'd like to know is how can we can we maybe have classrooms [Music] and kids that do not want to through six is [Music] can you see his language um uh um [Music] you so
yeah [Applause] foreign [Music] the worst [Music] um [Music] there is no good reason for the breakdown [Music] i'm not looking for a magical one-size-fits-all solution to this matter um it doesn't exist that's why you're nasty [Music] um [Music] staff neighbors family and friends we need your help [Applause] okay [Music] everything i'm james streeter i [Music] the [Music] high school [Music] is [Music] but we're starting to turn around at the prospect for a long school year in person without mass the faculty would be involved in classrooms orientation and orientation that's all probably over from 1987 people attending [Applause] [Music] my fourth grade [Music] three times [Music] when she she i'm not yeah i'm going to read an email from jessica martin that came in she writes the rewards as a parent the child in cedar springs
district as a school of choice parent i wanted to send this email out to you and hope you'll pass along to other board members please note while i send my child to school today it's not my first choice to send her due to the mass mandates i know the school and board members have been sent a bunch of information from fellow parents that show that wearing masks is not good for the kids i picked my child up today and even after having the mask off for almost 10 minutes already her poor face was still being read from heat and mass we're in today and then it was cooler today than it will be later this week it took it took an hour for the red to go over i heard that you were stuck between
a rock and a hard house guess what so i discussed this with my child that masks were getting required at school she was disappointed that she would have to wear one yet she still wanted to go to school i did honor her request but told her that i'm going to fight so that she doesn't have to wear the masks i know that they don't work to or protect our kids i follow many subject matter experts kenny clark kristin megan kelly and stephen bennett here's a link to students and i encourage you to listen to that i would love to be able to home school or find another school that aligns with my beliefs my medical issues that i have and finances in order to take care of my family i first have to take care
of me for the last 18 months of the pandemic i've had to sacrifice my own health and try to do so for the better good of everyone else i canceled or had appointments canceled for me i've really needed to do that what i had to do for my child while others had to make decisions that felt that they were better for my child i didn't help me and it didn't help my child we are all doing our best but i feel no one is listening to our voices as parents i will be attending the school board meeting this evening to support my fellow parents who want our kids unmasked why are we still doing the same thing over and over and expecting the same results is the school board is the school looking at engineering
controls so that we don't need masks in schools for any reason you've got code money to spend on these things why aren't we doing it in each building i'd also like to ask why it is okay on muscle or for multiple bus drivers i saw today at various schools and times appearing to be empty buses not have to wear masks covering their face isn't this a rule that needs to be followed first ac guidelines maybe someone has the medical exemption or it's not my business if they do but what's good for one should be good for all right one example is being sad thank you all for your passion for our kids we as parents just want our choices back please stand with sparta area schools as they are fighting against enemies this is my
actual district and i'm a graduate spartan i've always been proud to be a redhead with my three other kids who graduated and my current student but parents want you to stand up and fight for i'll be watching closely at what happens i look forward to seeing you tonight every winter mr john wood [Music] is [Music] for so many teachers i was never communicating that by anybody about that i pulled two children out of school they were also exposed to critical race here we need to do something about that let's say nothing's writers there's no reason why a teacher should have plenty of the most controversial thoughts available something is wrong we all know [Music] teacher [Music] two or three chapters it was obviously another thing i said why did you choose this book the teacher
recommended it she says five copies of this book and these five of the students three years ago who subject this pornography look up the definition of pornographic literature there's a term in the state's literature [Music] if anybody wants any information thank you very much [Applause] she shares mask wearing should be the parents choice school districts need to start standing up for our children any restraints such as mass is against school code law to breathing this virus is an aerosol virus so a mask does not stop the virus from spreading through the masks our kids mental health is being negatively affected by wearing a mask we haven't even begin to see the long-term effects negative effects of this four wall the virus has a 99 separation okay i decided um uh you guys [Music] that is
[Music] jamie albert um in third grade [Music] foreign she was dizzy both teachers is [Music] due to migraines and then she started developing cluster minor so this year she [Music] is going [Music] so now that was really hard [Music] thank you [Applause] [Music] from michelle [Music] um [Music] if [Applause] uh um [Music] is [Music] but it should be a choice um [Music] um [Music] um [Music] last week the health department reported that um [Music] um [Music] um [Music] um [Music] um [Music] he's is um [Music] a matter of release this is not an option for our k through six students to attend classes without a message [Music] if you the absences choose be excluded all right so let's be clear my kids do not have the right to attend free public education because all right
let me tell you what the letter didn't say scott didn't give me any options didn't say hey how about i get home what about we're gonna the second thing i'd like to ask and i know you guys stand this time but i'm sitting there like everybody else wondering the same thing is there anything that could be said at night anybody getting up here this is gonna change your mind that's outside of the kent county health department says true sarah mitchell [Music] is [Music] that you are not doing anything [Music] the um to contact the county commissioners and encourage them to send the fake company networks in how many commissioners voted [Music] um [Music] under all circumstances including emergency situations letter h of any restraint that negatively impacts freedom thank you um uh [Music] um one
that with the masses here and one that is [Music] i'm not saying you're not doing something but are you doing that [Music] sports have a good i think at this point there's enough people here about 200 people that have considered foreign [Music] wherever you go but at some point you're going to lose followers which i think at this point is if you look at statistics since the beginning 38.1 million people in the u.s [Music] is thank you [Music] so this is all on the second choice [Music] so michigan department of services [Music] i'm going to [Music] the public schools of the state serve yeah you guys serve the needs peoples of the cooperative people's parents legal guardians that develop people's intellectual capabilities and vocational skills and positive environment that basically says so the solutions [Music]
stand [Music] why don't you guys i've given you all this information for months and you look at us and disrespect us on a daily basis crt so somebody sent me a thing [Music] but the crt is here and we need to pay attention there's a group called stand up here's friends and we're on there can you help monitor what these four members [Music] so please everybody hold these officials we yes um the community conversations [Music] i come in education for 20 years [Music] is appropriate dimensions to reduce research is [Music] our children matter to us is nice that's costing is um [Music] um [Music] the health department [Music] and the michigan department of education have both given the right to each school district to decide in advance and now with one member okay i appreciate
every single one of you up there [Music] is [Music] okay [Music] to make sure is [Applause] um [Music] if [Applause] bad boys [Music] um actually started playing together um [Music] um [Music] foreign [Music] so here's something else the world has changed [Music] because two years ago because they were like okay [Music] is [Music] so if we don't play together [Music] neither liberty [Music] slavery [Applause] nicholas [Music] is looking from here not a single one of you believe that code is very dangerous [Music] okay and take us to the next level with you so it's up to you when you stand with us because if you stand against us [Music] for the last two months which is [Music] as an adult this is done cannot [Music] is [Music] the next generation there's a lot of studies
out there [Music] and again tonight you guys are all sitting here talking about all these different things [Music] emotions i'll be a better teacher [Music] [Applause] lisa is i want to say that you guys [Music] on [Music] um [Music] is [Music] kids need to be exposed to germs to have an immunity and that's what immunity and some god and you take your vitamins see you think do it it's spiritual [Music] emotionally their mass holds moisture there's a lot of kids getting snap infections more asthma [Music] at all [Music] i will not be told as an adult what i can't [Music] do um [Applause] [Music] is um [Music] um is did you know that screens and windows reduce the airflow they're weighing up by 70 when you take the screen out of [Music] the mask does
the same thing it reduces [Music] think about what it is stop please [Applause] hey good evening um [Music] the sports the extracurricular activities and that's what i think most [Music] this is [Music] they go we say anita this is not my plan i came to sports but um [Music] and to really listen to what you feel the lord is my cousin this is community of faith and then there are a lot of people here [Music] because there are people all over this world who are having to sacrifice who are losing not just their jobs but their loved ones they're losing their physical abilities because they are [Music] and we will stand behind [Music] you guys can do this [Applause] hi i am [Music] um [Music] um [Music] um [Music] this is [Music] i [Music] this
[Music] that was amazing [Music] please follow them so forth support us and let me tell you one thing nobody was in my voice put [Applause] so even if this still goes away that is is [Applause] hello i was not expecting to speak from um all the way up through my cpu i have four children in each school district two second graders my second grade [Music] so let me ask you one day so we've been discussing all well let me discuss law by state is the lowest level of ethical reasoning where [Music] and let me ask you another thing [Music] [Applause] uh [Music] so i'll just read lisa's comments [Music] um [Music] um [Music] what is [Music] breathing [Music] [Applause] um elaborate um [Music] um [Music] um you know themselves to mitigate the issues themselves and
stand up and say you know what we're getting some majority of our days outside because the point here is that your job okay our jobs are to be speaking for children speak up for our educators and go to bathroom um [Music] [Applause] everyone that's here okay and um i know you've said this before but the message is simple everyone deserves a choice and it's our to make that choice happen um we um [Music] we will we are together are we [Applause] sean [Music] i want to talk to um about your rights and i want to talk to you about the fact that we need to stand back for ourselves [Music] you know [Music] after eight months my daughter loved it she loved that everyone else was covering up her face and they her see her
face and she can just kind of forget it and it's taken a small summer to get her back to being fun smiling and careful and i'm thankful that she graduated i'll [Music] services at the hospital in new mexico he was mandated to get the vaccine so that he could continue to receive services immediately [Music] because now it has fda approval and the fda approval was granted without even the clinical trials the long-term there's no way that we should be offering this to the period swine fluid the back seat of the swarming crew was pulled off the market after 26 the cdc itself admits that there's 12 000 and there's a whistleblower that has revised their estimate to thinking that 100 000 to 200 000 deaths and we should stay well away from this because the
cdc just released broadcast in general when you go 16 minutes into it a cozy little sentence that says [Music] on thursday and you should always [Applause] all right let's kayla percy thank you support yes is yes um legal even though so um there is the kent county commissioner's meeting please share um stories and mr morgan is our food commissioner from earlier this week um commissioners um people getting to have their conversation with the first week there were recommendations from the department the second would mean with the substance abuse are there other districts um so that conversation is happening and the other thing that i spoke with andy about is supportive based on the legal advice um [Music] um if there's one thing and i did share this is [Music] but you know realistically it took
four months to do that work last year with minimal if you looked at satisfaction from a parent perspective and from a student perspective there was minimal satisfaction yeah and so when we did survey our families back in the spring a very few number of families indicated that they wanted for one reason they weren't satisfied with the experience that they had last year and they wanted that in-person experience and you know i think it's important to recognize that you know for adults turning on a zoom camera and having a meeting with people in different locations is relatively reasonable it's a reasonable thing to do to engage with a five-year-old or a six-year-old or eleven-year-old or a fifteen-year-old over extended periods of time through a lens or screen has a minimal you know little positive and so
you know this device does amazing things but it doesn't work so at this point you do not have a solution that would be families we do have an option for students in sixth through fourth grade through my school kent so the hybrid program some of the content is delivered via technology they in addition to that it would be important to note that we don't have intense flexibilities that we appreciated last year so if we were to go fully promote for a day or an extended period of time those would not count as days of school for us according to the people accountable um so the health department issues an array of orders that public places for example when you go to a restaurant you expect that the person cooking your food and serving your food
is required to wash their hands after that's a health department this is the same type of instance and this is [Music] a lot of those um complexities because so much just because it's in order and i never said through on right now is the exemptions you know currently there are two exemptions that exist within the public health corridor one is around students who have a learning disability that's documented the order doesn't dictate one way or another and so we we're working on some strategy and we recognize that our families want choice we hear it we know it we're doing everything we can to work within the letter of the law i sent a unique style of waiver to one of our terms this afternoon and i'm waiting to hear back that's approaching the requirement within
a medical reason uh similar to how we're approaching some other things with medical records in regards to 2019 so you know we are thinking outside the box but we just need to make sure that our thinking outside the box does not jeopardize uh and put our parents into a conflicting situation uh nor does it jeopardize our own capacity you know the mandate is very clear the health order is very clear it doesn't hold our parents accountable to wearing basements it doesn't hold individuals wearing a face mask it holds educational institutions accountable to ensure that people kindergarten through fifth grade freaking heard from fifth grade wear basements they put this on our back it's not on individual families it's not i think it was very strategically them [Music] um [Music] um so what you guys need
to do is [Music] me thank you [Music] face [Music] is positions so there we have it um thank you you
