to order. If you please stand and join us in the pledge of allegiance. >> I aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands one nation indivisibley andice for all. >> Excellent work. All right, Mr. Starter, will you please call the roll? >> Yes, sir. Angelina Barnes. >> Janelle Brazinski >> here. >> Carpenter >> here. >> White >> Here. John >> here. >> Brad Weber >> here. >> We have a >> great Thank you very much. Uh, adoption of the agenda. We do need to make a slight adjustment. So, if someone could make a motion perhaps to put the approval of the middle school curriculum guideline, I would appreciate it. I will make that motion. Okay. So there's motion seconded. Any further discussion on that? Okay. All

those in favor of approving the amended agenda, please say I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. All right. We'll start with our first of three presentations tonight from CC REC superintendent Scott Ken. Scott, welcome. Thanks for being here. >> Great. Thank you everybody. I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to share some information with you regarding CC REA. But before I do that, I want to introduce one of my board members. This is Ken Amish maker Ken that is joining me this evening for the presentation. He actually sat in your chair for six years. He was a do board member before coming to represent at Clint County Reese. So Ken, thank you. I appreciate you joining me. >> So I brought some information to share with you this evening uh in a couple of the documents

you've already seen. I'll just draw your attention to them. I'll try to walk through them pretty quickly. Uh the first is an updated what we call a summary of services report for 2025. you saw this document last year. Uh along the left hand side in the red is our contact information. There's some student population information there uh by district broken down. I won't go through each one of these data points. Uh the third column in really summarizes and provides a number of data points around our special education services that we provide. And if you know a lot about REIA, that is the bulk of what we do. We provide services to about 1400 kids across the county. So a number of data points there. Uh below that early childhood. We have a number of child

programs as well. In some instances, we're working with little ones uh within days after being born depending upon the nature of their disability. Uh some budget information uh and then at the bottom right some instructional services information regarding supports that we provide. I'm going to talk a little bit about them uh later on. On the back, a lot of information data points around CTE and I would be remiss if I didn't draw your attention to the bottom. As a father of five kids, uh last year there were 844 college credits earned uh by students at Mid Michigan College and 47 credits earned at Lancing Community College, saving Clinton County families over $217,000. So, we're proud that we're able to uh to offer that. And then one column over uh we have an early college that

works in conjunction with three of our career and technical education programs. Uh same thing, if you go to the bottom down there, uh 24 25 students were able to earn 1,080 college credits. So, we're proud of the work that we're doing in those areas. Uh second column, our third column over business services. We provide some business supports for smaller districts. Uh and then below that, technology and then on the far right, statewide impact. This office is right here in DIT, actually downtown DWIT. It's called the Office of Innovative Projects. And there's a number of data points there where we're supporting other ISDs. So it's county recent employees for us providing supports across the state to other ISTDs. Most ISDs don't do that. We were fortunate to watch that office over 25 years ago. So I

wanted to share that with you this evening as an update. Uh we are focusing on communicating communicating communicating. So we have a brochure that really breaks down kind of a mini version of what I just shared. I'm not going to go through that with you. Uh and then the final document that I'd like to share is a strategic plan update. When I was here last year, um I shared what our strategic plan was. Uh and this is year two. And so if you look at the one side, the mission, vision, and core beliefs did not change. If you flip it to the other side where it says year two, the five goal areas all stayed the same. Our first goal area is services, programs, and partnerships. Second goal area is communications and community engagement. The

documents I shared with you. Third is organizational culture. Fourth, operations, personnel, and finance. And is teaching and learning. What did change in some instances are the bullet points underneath. The bullet points are the objectives. Um in in some instances if we accomplished an objective, we took it off and replaced it with a new one. Um some of these objectives would be the same ones you saw last year because this is a four to five year strategic plan and we can't get everything done in one year. So I did want to provide this to you as an update. Um Ken can attest to this because four times a year I give a presentation to the board each quarter documenting the progress that we have made as an organization. according to the strategic plan. So I wanted

to share that update with you and then draw your attention to the second second bullet under the first goal expand the work of the district profiles and that's uh what this brief presentation is going to be about. Last year we provided um the DHIP staff with what we call the district profile and it was a number of data points specific to Dwit um from a variety of areas. uh we had certain uh meat scores, we had NW NWDA scores, we had enrollment, we had suspension by grade, we had attendance. So a number of data points and then sat down with your staff and helped them uh plan or identify areas uh that they needed support and we provided those supports. So this year we have the same data profile with updated data and we shared

it with uh with the local districts in October, but we really took a different angle with the this year and we worked with your district and the other five to uh walk through some continuous improvement. And so this is a slide from the October meeting. We had all six local school districts uh join us uh at that meeting and we really spent the day talking about continuous continuous improvement. Uh that's what innovation is. It's about the reality that continuous continuous improvement is the reality. And on that particular day, uh we sat down with your teams. Uh we facilitated uh a number of conversations. The first the first part of that was for the districts to ask themselves where are we at now? Uh what current initiatives are are we taking undertaking? From there, they do

dove into the district profile and took a look at their data uh and really identified what they what they call what we're calling their northstar. I'm going to come back to that in a little bit, but really what's the area that they want to focus on improving? Um, and so that was identified by your team. I'm going to come back to that. Uh, and they asked why they were struggling in that particular area or why they wanted to improve in that particular area. And then finally, we ended that morning with some action planning where teams got together and said, "All right, now what are we going to do about this?" And then we ended up with a gallery walk so each local school district could see what the other districts were working on. Uh, and

it created some kind of kind of because a couple of the districts are working on similar things. So that was a snapshot of the day and at the end of the day uh what did we come up with? Uh the districts came up with again a shared understanding of their northstar, a clear set of priority goals, uh a root cause hypothesis that explained perhaps why this was challenging and then an action plan as I shared. And as we were uh facilitating this, we really wanted to focus on the why. And so this was one of the prompting questions that we asked the DIT team and the other teams is picture one student staff member or community member who comes to mind when you think about why our efforts of improving our continuous improvements matter. So

Ditz Northstar you actually chose three of them. Um so you have staff that are working on this now. Climate culture and belonging uh attendance and engagement in math and so know that that work is going on in your buildings in your district. And we as a supporting that, working alongside your staff as they are continuously improving in those particular areas. And the next steps uh are to bring the teams back together in March on March 5th. If you see the top, that's that October 22nd date where we had all the locals in to begin with. Uh between October and March on the right, you can see that your district teams have been working on these things. Uh we will bring folks back in on the 5th. Uh do a check-in. We've got a number of

facilitated activities and then continue to support the local districts throughout the spring and summer and then we'll we'll do the same thing again next year. We're going to become a cycle continuous improvement cycle for our local school district. So, I did want to share that that is new this year. Um, and I will stop there and answer any questions you may have. >> How is the progress going in strategic plan as a whole? >> Um, Ken, you want to grab that one? I can answer as a board member and then I'll answer as a superintendent. How's that? So, uh, as Scott mentioned, four times a year, he gives a board a an update on the strategic plan and the progress we have made. And as a board, we're very proud of the number of items

we get to cross off each quarter. Um, and we've really made great progress. And uh you know, one of the goals we set as a board is we wanted Clinton County Reset to be more visible to the local districts as well as the local communities. That was one of our goals we set as a board to attend local local school districts and just show our support for everything you guys are doing here. >> Yeah, I'm pleased as well. It is not a document that sits on a shelf whatsoever. And I think folks in the organization know that. Um again, I report to four or four times a year on it. Um we have a strategic plan core committee about 15 to 20 staff members um that sit down and we review those objectives. We review

the progress. If you go to our website, we've got a dashboard. Should have brought that. But we have a dashboard that every quarter as we accomplish things, we move it either from yellow to green or from red to yellow depending upon where we're at with that. I'm very pleased with it. >> Thank you very much. >> But I've got to head up to St. John. That's my my next stop. And I'd love to hear the little ones do their presentation, but unfortunately >> Thank you. >> All right, we will move on to our next presentation from Scott Elementary. Welcome. >> Good evening. Um, my name is Deian Schwarz and I am the genetic social worker counselor at Scott Elementary. I have been in the district for about 13 years now and I'm very excited to

showcase some of the really great things that our staff and students are doing at Scott school. So um just a little quote as we go through um from Flip Flippen who is the founder of Capturing Kids Hearts. If you have a child's heart, you have a child's mind. And so we want to keep that in mind as we go through and talk about some of the pieces that we've had in place for before I got here. But we capturing. So, we do something um as many of our buildings in the district do um called positive behavior interventions and supports. And these are some of the foundational principles that this is based on. And what we really want to do is look at not reacting to behavior, but really how are we proactive and how can

we teach kids what our expectations are. We can't just assume. If a child doesn't know how to read, we're going to teach them. If a child's struggling to behave, often historically, we would go into more of a then we want to hold them accountable or punish them. But what we know and what research has told us over the years is we need to teach. We can't just assume. And so, um, it's really what we want to do is teach expected behavior and then how are we responding to that? And again, we're constantly responding by teaching those expectations and helping them to learn. So um what we also do is we provide behavior interventions and supports matched to those student needs. And so PBIS has six um big ideas. So the first one is sorry I

do care if I walk I don't stand very well comfortable. I do dismiss at the end of the day. Um so some of our um big pieces that we do the first one is we identify and define expected behaviors. So these are are three big ideas. So at Scott school, we're respectful, responsible, and safe. The next piece is we teach those expectations. What does it look like to be responsible when you're waiting at the end of the day? When you're in the hallway, what does that look like to be respectful? How do we make sure that we model that we're being safe? But what specifically does that look like? And so that those are the pieces that we do that we spend a significant amount of time doing right in the beginning of the year.

The next two are we monitor expected behavior and then we also acknowledge and encourage behavior expectations. If any of you have had children who have gone through I'm guessing you've seen or heard of our panther prize at Scott school. Every building has a slightly different acknowledgement system, but it really is about catching kids doing the right thing and telling them you're doing great and we are so proud of you because that's just who you are and that's fantastic. And The last two pieces are establishing a continuum of responses to behaviors that include teaching and retaching that I spoke about a little bit earlier. And so for example, what we have here under number five is something that we call a theme sheet. Back in the day, even recently three to four years ago, kids felt

that this was like more of a punishment. And that's not what the intention is. The intention is that it's a teaching tool. It gives a child an opportunity to sit down and this situation happened, what was going on, and then let's think of a plan. How are we going to do it better next time? So, it's not meant to be an I got you. It's meant to be a hey, we know you're learning and growing because even as I tell the kids at school, even us old people are still learning and growing. And that's what we want to help them to do as well. And then the last um key component is using that data for decision making and that's where we keep track of that pop up. So, if we know we're seeing a

lot of issues happening in the hallway, what do we need to do as adults so that we can set our kids up for success, which might look like we need to have more adults in the hallway when kids are all coming into school? We actually had that last year. We shifted a few things and it smooth things out in a really, really great way. So, this is a really quick snapshot, but let's get to the best part of the presentation, which is our kids. So now we're going to talk a little bit more about caption kits and how this is integrated into our system that we have established. >> Now the microphone is on. >> Um hi I'm Ellie. I teach third grade at Scott School and I am so excited to have my five

of my students um be able to share and present some of the amazing capturing kids arts processes that we have started. As you can see on this picture uh we call this our heart wall. So we have all our PBIS systems but also our capturing kids heart systems as well. and my students are going to come up and share about the eight initiatives that we have really started to implement and focus on this year and they will introduce themselves as part of their presentation. >> Hi, my name is Claire smile and our name so we feel welcome when we come into class. We focus as you and others. Great job. starting >> Mr. R. That's good. >> Yeah. So, a great thing for me today. Well, I'm going to share something I did this weekend.

So, it was just a great Saturday. >> Mr. playing dress up. As a matter of fact, I have a tattoo explain to people all day long. Why do you have that? >> Thank you. are respectful that help and confidence. Oh, respectfulidence. This is an important life skill we use when interacting with adults. interviewing interview. >> Hi, my name is Taylor. Questions help us think about our chases and remind How to solve problems and make good decisions. The social contract is a list of agreements we made together about how we want to treat each other in our class. Help

us communicate without talking so we can stay focused and respectful. students means giving us voice and responsibility so we can grow as ownership of our lesson in a fun and meaningful So we know what we are learning and why this is class and would like would like you all to participate after I dare to dream. >> I will dare to dream. >> I am enough. >> I a world a better place. I will make the world a better place. >> Every day is a fresh start. >> So board members, thank you again for listening to my amazing students and how well they did. And if you have any questions, either me or the kids can answer questions. >> All right, I have one. What is your favorite part about capturing kids arts? What's the best

part? Of all of those things that you told us about, which one do you like doing the best? >> Making friends. That's a pretty good one. How about everybody else? Anybody have a different favorite >> was anybody like scared when they first started doing some of this stuff but now you're like awesome. >> Thank you board members.
