all if you need to order if you join me for the pleasure please take the motion to appoint Lisa Truscott as acting secretary's absence report aye interview I am here and Mr Bieber good motion without the generations so it's hard to believe but a year ago we embarked on our strategic plan and so I'm here to give you the state of the district and kind of an update on that plan over the last 12 months so the agenda or the overview that we'll be talking about is just a reminder of the mission and vision that we chose and then we'll go through the five different goal areas as well as Financial snapshot of where we are some celebrations and then finally some next steps so when we take a look at the mission that was
developed by a collective group last year we ended up with Horticultural Excellence we provide the tools and environment for all Learners to succeed and then our vision is students equipped To Build A Better Tomorrow we also had a DeWitt core values and they basically sum up in being financially responsible that we know that every learner is unique and that we're all teachers and Learners and that really it is the culture of Excellence from a community of Partners and then trust honesty and respect are essential to learning and last but not least not last but not least inclusively and Excellence are things that we strive for so these are the core values of our district and when we move on to the five little areas the first one is communication engagement you'll see overlap with the
academic ones as well but the way this works is you'll see the goal that we chose at the tgh planning meeting and then over the retreat the cabinet the first set of bullet points were things that we said that you can probably accomplish this first year so when you think of these goals the goals are for five years but we need to write them down to what's manageable for each year so we have the different the different objectives for each of the goals and then underneath the line for each goalie you'll kind of see some of the things that we need to accomplished so this first goal was talking about enhancing transparency by clear concise and coordinating communication so we set out to establish a PR team work with student representative develop building and Department
websites get those updated also deliver a state of the district so a year ago we had the state of the district based on our last strategic plan and then this will give me an annual report out to where we are on our strategic paying goals for the next five years and then also why why didn't our reefs are reached to get out centuni so one of the things that I was charged with in the evaluation meeting was getting Beyond just the parents how do we get to the Greater Community so obviously I won't go through every single thing that's up there with the Highlight a few things we have a phenomenal School District social media team so we have representatives in each of the buildings that are pushing things out each week so the community
can kind of see what's going on behind the brick walls also Panthers again we've updated our websites one of the things that you might have seen as we reached out and were advertising as well as putting some small articles and more more to your door so that way if non-parent community members can at least know where to access information and to get some additional information I distributed a hard copy District profile to area businesses that maybe have a elderly population that aren't necessarily parents or grandparents of the district we also have an ad in the chamber magazine this year we'll be reporting back out but our perception data we had our perception data review at the county and so that information will be coming out soon from the building principles and obviously the state of
the district we continue to live stream our board meetings and then also I want to highlight the fact that we have some districts National exposure so not only have I presented at the National Conference but we have Dr cavato from the middle school will be presenting at the national Elementary Middle School and Elementary and so at aesp conference in the summer as well and then our PTA has come back strong and then PT update has really revived themselves at the at the middle school so they have a new board and have been involved in partnering with the school there the second goal is around academics and programs and so the goal specifically for us was to expand programs support systems and diverse technical learning experiences for all students so this year we were focusing on
three different objectives to establish support established systems to support academic and behavioral transitions from building to building offer more diverse technical learning at the elementary and promote those options that we have as a secondary and then also create a hub for our gifted gifted and talented students so as you can see we have several things that we've been able to accompl to accomplish this year but one of the biggest highlights and they presented on it both Mike and Marie came to present on the mentoring program so that's been very successful and we're looking at expanding that and what that would look like to expand Middle School to Curtis and woods thank you we have meetings with several groups helping with building transitions so from students and plans and and also involved with that is just
kind of creating the awareness that student needs as they come from one building to another uh the gift that has come and help is up and then we're also piloting map accelerator it's a program through NES or nwea that helps to look at students risks where they are but then also take them and get them higher so our gifted students as well as struggling students can have information that challenges them to get them to the next level so for our third goal areas on operations and so the specific goal like that we want to approve and maintain our learning environments at our stage secure clean and future ready so this year the free Focus areas want to implement a Pre-K 12 safety plan to utilize building substitutes and expand and maintain technology so we do
have building level substitutes in each of the buildings with that and increasing those wages we have been very successful in filling a lot of those openings we'll talk a little bit more in the Personnel we have not been as successful with support staff but as far as teaching and teachers are going we've been able to fill those positions and not have classrooms go unfilled this year another thing is just really the Pre-K 12 safety plan so we've done safety training for all of our active shooter trainings for all of our staff and have really worked with what age-appropriate drills look like for the students as well uh so we've also been able to deploy stacked laptops and student Chromebooks we are really close to having a backup system so we've lost power and fiber outages
we've had a couple of different breaks uh this year and we've been without the internet so we're really looking to make sure that we don't have that disruption because we count so much on that now so really close to having the backup system and then also cyber training cyber security training has been ongoing and with the cyber attacks that's been really instrumental and then I think I explained in the update that all the administrators have been in our pantrying and they have supplies for our districts so it's a major accomplishments when it comes to school and District safety so the next one is learning environment culture and this one interplays really closely with the academic one so mentoring obviously is one of our successes here but the specific goal is to Foster an inclusive engaging
and supporting educational communities so our goals here were to grow the mentoring and body system create a positive climate that excites people to go to school each day and some of us willing to help focus on the attendance issues and then sustain effective social emotional and mental health supports so you can see here all of the things that we've been working on we work closely with the DeWitt Community Partnership for diversity Equity inclusion we've also developed a new student checklist so when new students come we can make them feel that they're seen they're heard and we give them supports to help them with that process we've heard from perception data and others that this is an area of need and so that's something that's been developed we've also trained our mental health screeners to be
more user kid friendly and then our building positive School climate teams and Leadership teams have been working really hard to make sure that our buildings are places where people want to be we're really excited to have more staff training for youth mental health first aid and it is a goal of ours to train all staff next year and so we're on the works with that so Mr investor has been working with counselors on that training as well as the Justice leaders collaborative to help move RIT I work forward and then our last one is Personnel so that particular goal was to attract retain and on board as well as cultivate qualify and diverse educational team so we set out this year to try to recruit and on board and retain quality staff as well as
attract the governor's applicant pool so we have been working through the Community Showcase and the um the township has an event where we were at so we're trying to be at an event and we've been at a football game trying to recruit but we've also but beyond the community outreach increased our scope so we're using LinkedIn we're using indeed more to try to get more people to our postings we have increased wages and we've also had additional handbooks and supported measures as well as trainings for new staff to help them feel that you know we're we're vested in them and we do offer paid training and certification for drivers so we did try with edu staff as the company that we use for our substitute teachers we did try to do that for our paraprofessionals
but we have not been as successful with that the most successful piece of that is we were able to hire the ones up or if you have one or two subs through there but they decided to come work for for us so we were able to onboard someone that way but this is definitely an area where we continue to kind of brainstorm and come up with ways to help the district so those are the five different Bowl areas now just kind of a financial snap snapshot we're doing really well and again I know I've talked about robbing instrumental in keeping giving us budget our budget rights and being responsible to that so some things that I want to highlight there is we really work to have long-term stability we're real good stewards of the district's
money and and 71 cents to every dollar goes to instructional expenditures and one of the things in the audit that was reported is that out of all the peers that we had that was the highest um followed by Mason which was at 66 percent I'm sorry Okemos which was 68 and then Holt and Mason tie for 66 in addition we have a projected fund balance of around 16 I think the state recommends um at least 15 percent Rob is that right at least 15 percent so we're right there where the state recommends we are as far as budget budget is concerned and you can see where balance between revenue and expenditures and that the other thing to highlight is that we've had the unmodified clean audits so in our audits which we're doing really great
as ours Finance their concerns this is also important because as people come to work for districts or even leave districts where they've been a long time they want to know that they're coming to work for a district that has Financial stability so we have a lot of celebrations um so as you know the safety the training and planning has been a huge undertaking for the last 12 months we do have supportive measures in place to support students we have k um 12 Student Success teams but at the K-5 we've kind of revamped that process and we're using our specialists in that capacity we're back to kind of this new normal and back to familiar we've talked about that a little bit before and then the youth Mental Health First Aid trainings again we've accomplished several
of our especially our support staff being trained and working to have all teachers trained next year both successful performing arts and athletic programs and we talked about my bribe being the ad of the year for for our region and then we've been able to really add some extra support so one of the things that I learned when I came in and did a lot of focus and one-on-one interviews with people is that we were asking people to do a lot so doing a lot with less and how we needed more support and more help so we've been able to not only have our academic Specialists but the AP up at the high school and you will see on the agenda Dean for K5 to help with Elementary area as well and then our technology and
devices getting those deployed and another celebration I think is the chair of the field and the progress that we've had so just as a summary I mean it's successful in academics Athletics Performing Arts and programming and Staffing so that culture of Excellence is really a part of what we do here and you can definitely see the panther Pride throughout the district as far as steps and next steps to moving forward so this is kind of a snapshot of where we are so we have to retreat this summer we go back to the drawing board to take a look at the Strategic plan all of the feedback from not only the day that we all spend together because we try to prioritize as bullet points as we have those things that we got the most votes
you know we could go around with our stickers but we're also going to be able to pull in the perception data from this year to you know have this ongoing data point to be able to kind of foster where our next steps go so we'll come up with new objectives for this year it doesn't mean the things that we've accomplished for this past year go away we continue do those and we start focusing on some new goal areas for for moving forward what questions do you have so you know I was I was kind of skeptical of the Strategic plan process and I envisioned it being something we did and spent a Saturday doing all day and then put on the Shelf somewhere so I think it's awesome to see you know I know you've
really worked hard with teams work hard to implement that kind of division that the community has important has that's great I really appreciate the FP I like the fact that I wonder if you know you could do some kind of a video update the community like what you just exactly when you're sitting right we just put this on well as I say we will definitely post this and push it out I was picturing something with my fellow Americans or something I would also add that you responded in the comments that we heard here live streaming the board meeting the policy thing that wasn't so I I feel like people listen to some public comments um I just wanted to note a few things you know when I'm sitting here listening to some of these schools
as well on communication and engagement I know that our board has also had a a desire to have additional conversation and discussion opportunities and so I would just hope that as a board you continue to explore those opportunities the ways that we can do that even if they're in informal way such as like a coffee hour or a in which of the public can have additional conversations I do know our policy committee is looking at policy language now and working on those things so I think that considers our communication and engagement I'm sure we're grateful for people to attend those meetings they're long and dry and we do appreciate the input and then in terms of you know as we look at academics and programs and operations I just want to make sure we keep
it involved on activities and programs there are alternatives for students who are better connected with maybe non-traditional sports or groups and making sure that everybody has a home within Public Schools are they buying what I always refer to the finding new people and who especially um against people they can make all the difference in the world to have that Foundation yourself and security I I really appreciate this I think it's I think it's great I thought I'll Echo everybody else's comments when I look through this list I guess I was I I was kind of surprised at how many new things there were and can you give us an idea of how many kind of new initiatives that have happened within since you've been here I guess since it is kind of the easiest way
we talked about social media last week and I think it's a stark difference from from where it was years ago uh great presence now online but there's a lot of other stuff that that's that's a part of this list how many of these things are new I couldn't really give you an American point on how how many are new but what I can say and somebody alluded to I think maybe it was you Brad but we have a great team so the cabinet has so one of the things that we do is um every other cabinet meeting we spend on the Strategic plan and so um you know we really worked this past week needing to talk about like all the things that we've been able to year so I would say some some big
things since you know I want to focus on big things because I think um the quality is much more important than quantity and so I think that the communication I would hope people would say they felt have has increased we've really made an effort to not only use social media and newsletters we do the points of Pride every other month but also extending that brighter wider reach out to the Greater Community has been really important and a focus as as well as as well as the transparency through the board meetings through the posting of materials the live streaming and things of that nature I think the other one is just really bringing on Specialists so the specialists in the curriculum team has been instrumental in a lot of a lot of the initiatives that we
talked about today like they wouldn't have been possible without a team of people really working to do that so I mean I think that you can probably list 12 things underneath the vaccine so those are some really good things and I think it's all great I I don't want you to think anything other than that and I guess my only question or if it's kind of recognizing is just sustainability just making sure that those those processes are in place that we can keep a lot of these things go and I know it's like New Year's resolutions by you know the end of January some people are you start doing them there's good intentions there but how do you kind of sustain that over a longer period of time so we talked about that as a
cabinet and I mean one of the things the feedback that I got was just having that time you know once at least sometimes it's once every other month but usually it's once a month so the other every other time in safety so we alternate between Street TV plan and safety scenarios and so um they had really positive feedback on the fact that it's been nice to be able to kind of keep keep the work in front of us right so it's not just in a binder on the Shelf we're looking at it pretty regularly to see okay this is what we said we were going to do you what have we done to do that and there may be some things that we'll have to continue on because we're not quite you know quite there
yet of where we want it to be so like as far as the gifted and talented and the technical learning like those are things that are started but they're nowhere near complete and they they stay on the radar and having those continued points of check-in will help us sustain the work thank you Communications coming in um [Music] oh sorry okay okay so we'll start even if you're an idea um so I'm thank you for the presentation I'm really happy to see that um um I have never heard of Youth Mountain Health per se I'm going to go Google it but if you have a chance to explain what that is I'd be really interested in finding out uh but I don't have anything to really prepared but I just wanted to touch on the policy
regarding the artificial intelligence speaking it's all new and it's kind of really you know ground that we haven't ever had to go into a foreign education and our policy is really Broad and I understand kind of capacity abroad but when they actually implementing Us in the schools I I don't know I think our special intelligence I think the Terminator um or Minority Report so which who knows but it just students will use the family use resistance and I'm sure my children have been guilty of that as students and I worry or I'm concerned about if they're using AI to write papers or do their homework where's the learning and one of the statements in here is that with respect to students it is the most policy that they are required to rely on their own
knowledge skills and resources and resources when I'm completing full work and that's great you know probably or it's too high level for that but I know it's going to be a challenge for school I'm almost done my Alaska as a senior I still love this District I love the kids and I really want to see to continue to achieve just be a source of Excellence so thank you thank you very much thank you human representative yep starting off with uh some miscellaneous items on uh April 12th the junior class will begin the testing process by taking the SATs defense that the act workkeys and on April 20th they will pick you up I think it's a problem or also on sale on red track now for 50 tickets from May 6th of the USU Gardens

Diss and uniforms the hard copy from this relates to some Renovations and construction project with representatives from DPS and PMC president March 30 2023 over the next few days the PMC prepared comparison bits it's not the recommendation by superintendent transferred approved from the 2021 building a set Capital project some of them support a little bit supportive discussion questions here and I just cut my way of a little more insight into this Furnishings is probably one of the more unique things that you'll you'll live throughout project because no one bids the exact same item and so the reason this is immaculate seed amount is we're still doing some comparisons of this person's table versus this person's table and we have the ability through the process to select this funders table but this vendor's chairs and we
likely will end up with probably three or four vendors through that process and so by improving tonight this resolution will be able to move forward hopefully within the next week with our official purchases to make sure we can get uh the Furnishings in by the start of the school year we just have a quick clarification question you said that it could be from a variety of different vendors so this is not a recommendation to improve so who who is held the process and there have been submitted and then no one's being awarded with it multiple people multiple people will be awarded the bandcast thank you was the staff involved at all in the exploring yeah if you look at the letter from plantaring crossov we evolve the building through the process and so the building
principle was involved with meetings with both myself and limero and the building principal also had Communications and conversations with her staff as far as it entice Furnishings that they would be looking at for their classrooms it's a little bit unique that we're not operating the entire building we have a couple rooms that are being renovated so those need a little bit more and then for supplementing for things that have either broken down or that just as teaching styles have evolve things that we need to tell someone like that but yes there was involvement at the building level and really that's the list was generated through the building versus coming from you know myself so there were walkthroughs and then addition we had to Showcase actually here where they brought Furniture there all right together thank
you our next one is the recommendation by superintendent Channel speaker at the Board of Education approved the contracts from principals identified superintendent speaker before and 2024 2025 school years of the authorization for the superintendent I think those countries it just remember it's kind of like a two-year rotating all right all right our next one is the School of Choice process program it's recommendation about super shows figure with execution School of Choice resolution for the following phrase 23 2024 school year kindergarten through eighth grade are limited and field s support will be supported just I mean to remember that we keep we keep each of our grade levels at the right size so we use both ways to do that um there are probably three grades that you might just be in our two so we
do use our current enrollment and apply what we have open I believe your predecessor awesome if you have an open CO2 on the bus we're going to fill it but we're not going to get another busy right now all right next one's related to that we don't offer a school of choice we do have a tuition potential for tuition process so it's a recommendation questions motion support move the supported new discussions in high school or something like that yeah or simulated circumstances yeah but it's just a dollar so it's not like they're paying a ton of time that is right yes our School of Choice does not require your home wow yeah I mean special ed comes into play too but that is correct and the other other piece of that is the School of
Choice is a lifetime whereas tuition at the beginning disciplinary academics attendance so it's you know it's you have a lot of truancy issues and you know if I say would be better at their home district and you don't extendation the next year all in favor please say aye aye our next one is on bylaws the policy updates the old representative Pat cruder excuse me review the 2023 policy of business information on speaker assistant superintendent respect new local technology services [Music] thank you Etc and uh that's good and then on April 5th the board policy Committee of arms he's a trust God Huber and that's to review the memory policy updates the first um further discussion anything the committee it's the first time you've had committee process anything you guys want to talk about well I
I would just say I think it was it was positive for a first meeting I mean it was three and a half hours so it was it was a good discussion amongst board members there were members of the community there so I was happy to see that and there was kind of the opportunity for a little bit of back and forth and some things to gain a better understanding of things um I think lesson learned is we need to do it a little bit uh further out from this meeting just to give Shauna and others some time I know there was some scrambling uh this past weekend so thank you for for getting that together so quick but um I think it was it was positive experience for the policies themselves you'll notice on some
of them we are we're recommending to move them through first reading but there is still some outstanding questions on those but we felt comfortable enough uh with where they were at to move them forward at this point to give but there's enough time between now and second reading to address those questions which which we can go over real quick so and some of the items I was able to get addressed in those policies are well and then others maybe some rewording of a couple of them ones around acceptable used and then there's the AI question so Lisa was the one that felt like everyone and the board should have these discussions and kind of decide okay I just want to follow up on Grant's comments there was really good discussion and um the people that
attended we did have discussion with them that there's more people at meetings we wouldn't necessarily be able to do that but in this case we had a policy that was disturbing to some to the people that were there and through our conversation and explaining the background and the reason that we have to have the policy we were able to come to agreement on what that policy should say and I think that's a huge you know so I was really pleased that that happened and with the AI discussion um we were some of us were uncomfortable with the language that was in the policy and then as we didn't want to prevent it from coming forward so um so the changes that were made were all okay I've had today and so the the visitor language
he felt like did not it did not um change the meaning and it didn't break the law I mean the biggest thing is unconstitutional to have blanket statements right um so they were just three little tiny tweaks now the the other ones you know that might have to not only go through Pat but also turned depending and and I I guess I can speak to the AI language specifically it is still included in the revised version um and I think we we have quite a lengthy discussion on it I would say um my my feeling on it is this is such a rapidly changing thing it's hard to make policy around it but I think the the other argument is with absent a policy we don't we have nothing to kind of guide decisions and
base uh any sort of disciplinary action if there needs to be so it might be better to have that in place rather than not so um but I I think it's an area that you don't need to to keep a close eye on in the in the future because this is going to change a lot of things and just the way that students assignments are graded or different things like that my my Approach was I don't I don't want to I wanted to be I want the policy to be helpful but not hinder in in any sort of way if it can be helpful to a student or a teacher in the learning process I don't think we can predict what that's actually going to look like right now so um but I think there's
time for more discussion on that and I'm interested to hear what what others have to say about it for sure I would just say it's not clear to based on what's in our packet as to like and we have very detailed discussions and notes about like these Provisions raise concerns this exact paragraph or we propose this language I can't tell by looking at things like it's not really red line it's like I just see the green and the I can't tell what change today um yeah I mean so um I can I can just go through the little tweaks there wasn't there wasn't much because we said they would go through for first readers there's just three little yeah it's not it's not a lot so policy 2623 um you you had questions about the
outdated MCL code it was left for historical purposes and so that was removed so MCL um 390.1451 was omitted um and policy 8400 the word was changed from Shell to may as far as the safety committee meetings and policy 9700 H and I were on separate lines and they were really one sentence so I cleaned that up I mean so I just cleaned up really small things and then we also changed the visitor policy with the language that you drafted Angelina so all the other policies are as you read them um at the policy meeting you know because they go forward that there might be something so how do you want to handle themselves I think we should go back and happy to kind of compile comments from those on the policy committee and then
have Shawna and I can send out Angelina took some notes too so we could make it yeah I think that'd be a good idea yep absolutely okay Nicholas foreign oh yeah so um I just want to put this out there um weekend at the May board meeting vote on a resolution but I wanted to see if you wanted me to bring the resolution or not so um right now uh France Law Group which is the Law Group who did the lawsuit or the jewel lawsuit they are now currently um signing up districts that are interested on a one for social media that would include media Twitter Instagram we've got them there but basically research has shown which I agree with that it really hurt our youth with more Depression more anxiety I think it's going
to be really really hard to measure any of that and I don't know necessarily be any money and I'm not even really the same thing when we got in the jewel lawsuit for the e-cigarette lawsuit it wasn't because we wanted to make money it was because we wanted to help change you know policy or being available to kids or you know so this is kind of the same thing but I just wanted to bring it for some discussion if you're interested in me bringing this forward or we're like but I don't know everybody's looking at me but okay go ahead oh um just after reviewing the various uh Public School entities that are engaging social media companies I personally wouldn't support their abbreviation at this time from my perspective uh I don't that does not
mean at all in any way shape or form that I don't believe that these companies my indications mental health issues or have taxed our school districts with having to respond to issues created unfortunately that's not it I'm just unclear as a public school districts how our involvement and limitation will change that or how it will be better for kids as a whole as a real call for the lawsuit if I were to support it it would be for anything any tangible actions I guess my so a couple of questions what so there is monetary amount tied to this is this similar to like the opioid settlements that the state benefits from that settlement money that then has to go towards specific purposes or is this like the jewels if at all I mean it seems
to me like if they win it's it's a it's not just something that's affected DeWitt Public Schools and who's ever named on this lawsuit it would be a collective kind of anybody that's used social media I think that's the reason the professional at least talk about it because I think they're not part of the class okay and and my other when I was researching this I noticed there's a lot of other lawsuits and it seems like there's a lot that are popping up around this and I realized Troon is recommending or at least supporting this one what makes this one kind of different from the other ones and I'm not asking you yeah I mean I just know that they've worked they've worked with the litigation against the uh for jeweled virtual and other electronic
smoking devices so um and I don't know if it's necessarily they're recommending it or they are kind of say um I did speak to one other term attorneys or if you're not interested in the monetary events it doesn't speak to you but she was saying if it's raining soup and you don't have your cup out you're not going to get any right so um and again we didn't get involved in the electronic cigarette lawsuit necessarily for money but you do have money that's coming back that's not only going to help support detection devices but also our mentoring programs right so so that's something So when you say bring it back in there so I'll bring back a resolution that you will actually see what the resolution is which you'll have beforehand but then um we
would vote on that resolution um and then we it would need to pass um that deadline originally was I know we have a board meeting before that but they are extending that and they did the same thing with the other lawsuit because obviously the more districts that are involved that's handling it here or um with the other one they put together a webinar that could be watched um so I can send you the packet of information that I have and then look in and see if Angelina based on the other schools that you saw ahead during the lawsuit um I think I'm having some hesitancy around so if you do the comparison between the jewel lawsuit I can make more of a connection for me uh the harm of students not things that don't use
social media in school but because it is also a speech and I think I understood social media companies I know a lot of the other schools are um you know administrators teachers and uh staff has been a broken amount of time essentially dealing with places otherwise in social media and that would put me invade of it right and so I think I just I again see very little so um I mean with the last one I gave then an hour and a half webinar I have signed you know put together with a resolution which is pretty much a skeleton Revolution so I mean for the jewel lawsuit it was maybe a total of four hours so not a lot of time and I just want to make sure that it was cleared at the time
that represents my confidence for time records were to oh I didn't think I just wanted to make sure to be misunderstood that I thought that it was taking an exorbitant amount of time I'll work on that Public Communication is for items Emily Hanks yeah thank you um so you have three minutes so I appreciate your time and I respect just like the moment so I believe what we've seen is a hurt person and now hurt people being hurt and that's down what you're not seeing a lot of is the excitement and the confidence and the exclusiveness of the kids and other clubs and I say close because um social economic versions some um lgbtq as many United disability like my son it's actually legally blind and what I so he has lots of sports the
kids he's an active kid but everyone put to them he came to it in sixth grade great year 2019 so he had covered with no strong pressures none so he locked down held really tough time and then they'll sort of came back and he was able to go and he found archery and he coached Jamie and coach Phil and the kids who made functions it was hard because they all were masses I didn't like it but he did and then fight 8th grade he was volunteering to his own suit of both groups to help high schoolers still renewed health middle schoolers over new kids receive something give me a little extra attention because the coaches were doing that because of our kids and it was a popular sport no but this year he got a
third place medal third I really don't know um and was so proud he does like the picture taken so he's actually mortified that I profited him but I wanted you guys to see um because he worked hard you say to both practices he put in the time you look extra extra hard to help himself and his teammates to get better I don't have a plan I don't um I trust I trust that between school superintendents the board the teachers and the coaches and the parents we can fix this we can in action however yeah so happy if we can't fix it if we don't Pennsylvania thank you thank you thank you Doug I'm here and I don't know if it makes the difference now but can you turn the microphone oh okay I'll try not
to tip it over okay um my name is Doug here I'm a parent of two Cubit archers um I'm here today to talk a little bit about Nas archery um there's been correspondence it's probably most of you are aware from Kathy garland from Michigan DNR saying that we are on a for the DeWitt archeries on an admin hold um eligible programs title for tournaments and uh as of May 15th that will occur so come May 15th uh herself or a representative from the Michigan DNR will come and pick up all of these School equipment because our district did not fulfill the terms of our contract for five years of archery um in the letter there's there's an excerpt here that says the DNR will evaluate the DeWitt Middle School and DeWitt High School archery program
plan and consider reinstating the program through active status if both the middle school and high school provide a full-time on-site teacher who will become Bai certified abide by the established NASA rules meet the program requirements of teaching the program in school for a minimum of 10 hours each school year and take ownership of the archery program and potential competitive events now at this juncture in time um we have the DeWitt archery has fulfilled three of those four requirements the fourth one being taking ownership of archery which has not occurred yet from the district uh the first item uh NASA certified teachers at the end of the night tonight we'll have both a High School substitute long-time substitute teachers in the district five acre would be would be eligible for that and Sarah Troutman from the
Middle School was supposed to attend her training this evening with the Bai certified so at this juncture in time the one thing that we have not fulfilled as a district is taking ownership of this program and and I'm here to to ask kindly to Let's explore those options how do we make this happen because just like Miss Hague said you have a lot of people that are willing to work really hard with this I think this is pretty evident by the amount of discussions calls emails we have support for this it just takes some activity on both sides of the table to figure out how to make this work um on a side note as we as we talk about these things words matter words really matter so the comment that I've heard many times
over and over and over from members of the board as well as uh Dr Stricker is that you know this is just like Boy Scouts doing Junior Panthers now our organization cannot exist without District support which is a sign off by both the high school invisible principal currently we have 28 archers that are eligible for something called the nas academic Archer Achievement Award that is an award that celebrates academic Excellence as provided by the guidance of Nas currently we cannot get those certificates signed by our principals so we are excluding our archers from that because our principles will not sign off on this because the comment made was I don't have to sign Boy Scout things why would I have to sign this so I would ask can you please please sign off on these
certificates so that our archers can be achieved Amy and Owen Trump I got this yeah our tree is the best sport okay we've got archery is the best sport and I want to learn and I want to practice and I practice at the MSU archery range and I want to about my coaches in the fall when they come back to archery like how much I did better um I like that the archery team has rules to keep everyone safe because I really enjoy rules it's one of my favorite things I've tried other sports as a player the other players are mean to me because I didn't do as good as them the other cultures the coaches were not very nice to me and they made weird faces and cringe when I missed a ball or
didn't slide to first base and I just didn't fit into my other my sports so I stopped playing sports even though I love sports I love watching them on TV is good for these reasons the coaches want us to do our best since we don't they're okay with it they just want us to have fun they make it fun they teach us and they teach us at the same time I really want the archery team to stay because I love it and so do all the other urges thank you very much [Applause] yeah I have something sure that was it we wanted to write it he wanted to come here today we need to read because so this is Owen this is his first year on the Dua archery team he's participated in two seasons
and as he said sports shoes didn't go well for him as a kid who tried and he tried and he just didn't fit in he didn't have the athletic ability he's afraid of balls he's afraid of getting hurt he has anxiety ADHD he has a hearing loss and it's a struggle for him to find a place that he fits in you never felt like you belonged on the other teams so he just gave up last year he was in fifth grade and he was fully so bad he felt he felt the kids hitting him throwing things at him attacking him on the playground for involved with his head pushing him over desks in this classroom but he wouldn't stand up for himself he wouldn't record it because if he did kids retaliated it made it
even worse I as a parent told the cat the school the principal the teacher and I was told I'm sorry there's nothing that we can do you have to report her for the same school day that it happens the school day has ended he can't do anything about it so he suffered all last year he lost his confidence in himself he called himself means he came home from school crying that nobody liked him that he was a horrible person kids would be friends with him just to turn around and Bully him he was breaking down and he was calling himself stupid and worthless and as parents we didn't know what to do and so we had heard about the new archery team I was just in fifth grade he's like going until he was in
sixth grade we had heard from other parents that it was great and was encompassing thing it takes everybody and they don't judge which is what he's experienced on his other team so we thought it would be a perfect fit after his first practice he came out like amazed he was starry night and he was excited he said the kids were nice the coaches encouraged me and best of all now they have rules I love rules so as the speaks in the months went on and he's on the archery team they started seeing the oven had confidence in himself he found a good group of kids at school to hang out with he is experiencing bullying in this school year but he stood up for himself he's recorded it as soon as it happens in the
school has taken care of it oh so uh go over the two seasons we've been watching him and he has improved so much his first tournament he missed the Target and arrows all went on the side of the Target and we thought for sure he's gonna come out and be like this is so stupid and I hate archery how he normally reacts to something when he's disappointed but no he came out and he was like Mom you know what I didn't do the best but I am so proud of myself because I just did it and my husband and I were just like oh my gosh like seriously and I credit this to the coaches and the team like it's the atmosphere on this team it is turning these kids around that are making them
have self-confidence in themselves uh so the coaches are awesome they encourage the kids to just do the rest and have fun and it's in the process you store you store good then that's awesome oh and it's so mad and motivated to be better than he was yesterday he owns his own goal now he started practicing at the downward Center and he said he's going to practice all summer and wants to come back improved he's even asked my husband and I to clean out the basement so that he can put a Target down there and practice shooting whenever he wants when he heard that the status of this team was in Jeopardy he didn't cry to break down he said you know what Mom I'm gonna fix this he put on his do it archery oh
his jersey and he's like I'm gonna go to school and I'm going to ask every one of my teachers if they will be a supporter of this team because we have got to find somebody around because this team cannot end and I was like okay you know I didn't think he would do anything but he did he found a teacher who said maybe I need some more information I might be interested in in doing it so he he was determined to fix this problem as a sixth grader he's finally got a team that supports an exception for who he is he's encouraged to do his best and it's okay if he has an update the deed has fun celebrations they've had bring your friend to archery and he got another person to join he had
bring your parents archery he took my husband and taught my husband how to shoot a boat like this is amazing so what this team was doing the changes that we've seen in Owen since joining this team is incredible it's a completely different hit I seriously cannot say enough good things about this team and the coaches they truly care about the kids and the team I don't expect you to fully understand because you really really understand you need to be there you need to experience the team you need to go to the tournament you need to see the Improvement you need to interact with these kids and see how they feel about this week I'm super sorry to cut you off I gave you the time for two people I'm sorry for and oh and I
just want to say it takes a lot of Courage for you to come here tonight and we really appreciate it thank you next up is Dan Carrero will you be okay by week last week sure thank you Jamie so I'm going to follow behind one of our archers and that this made it more difficult uh this is what I have written I actually wrote this afternoon because I knew that I would have stumbled over my words here because there are a lot of emotions behind them if I'm assuming the board is aware and ask for archery and do it is in an administrative home the decision to allow two programs to do it was allowed by yourself although on multiple occasions I shared my knowledge based on math and its rules no one considered this
information is accurate and without saying indirectly that I was lying to the superintendent in our district yet here we are I'm not asking for an apology but I am asking that the school board take ownership this decision and to further hurt and conflict that is it is US myself our parents and most importantly our student governors as mentioned on several occasions I have been directed by various individuals from the other program is a brand a king paint slander against the end of my program I can honestly say that I have become much more empathetic to students who are victims of bullying and harassment and what that does to the mental infant mental and physical health of the victim this program has affected me in both those ways and continues the student archers are due of
do it we're better together they were better mentally and better as a competitive team We Are One family enjoyed are tied together I do not believe that any student feels that we are better apart shared many special events and victories together in our program grew every year including through the pandemic how are we judging how are we judging success of a program the compa the campaign to remove my program and replace it with Deepak is ongoing as evidenced by the email sent by Mr Burr court today in response to Dr smicker's email this afternoon I received a call from Mr here asking if I was attending tonight's meeting and what my intentions and approach might be my position is of it is my position is that of unity if there is ongoing conflict and lack
of resolution we will never have a program for the students of do it it is evident by Mr ears response in Mr burkhorn's email that Unity is not part of their plan nor their intention Unity does not mean one program joining the other it means two programs working together towards success and peace can I just say what I read what my request is my request is that this board will consider the importance of this program for 70 students that this is their world more than it's my world and fit I want unity in this program I want you I want you to be between the two groups and I hope that through that Unity somehow instead of fighting back and forth who's going to be in control that we all work together including middle school
because that is what the DNR is requesting thank you to have a program thank you George firstborn good evening back in December the DPS board allowed the creation of a second archery what to win we took that in good faith and ran forward forming the panther Archery Club as Michigan nonprofit on December 20th since that time we formed an all-parent board of directors of 10 members got 21 parents certified as coaches through and asked three are actually going through training tonight had 42 area to an area students shoot with us including my daughter competed in four tournaments of two individual medalists to her program only about her son being one and our high school team is headed to Nationals in Louisville Kentucky next month we're thankful for this opportunity that was created back in December
and your decision at that time actually had the effect of expanding archery to over 60 kids into it between the two clubs more than were participating at any point in the past however as you've heard tonight Nas archery is in danger and DeWitt the Michigan DNR will suspend NASCAR tree unless the school takes control while there's disagreements surrounding the terms of what they require mice what is in the contract here we are NASCAR tree will cease to exist into it without board action 60 plus kids will lose the opportunity to shoot with this program starting this fall and at least 20 more kids that have expressed an interest in starting this fall will lose that chance many of these kids don't do any other sports archery is it for them this includes my own daughter
who's current soccer basketball volleyball and Tennis archery is the only thing that's stuck in fact she went from shooting in the 150s out of 300 and follow 21 to a 267 out of 300 in March her self-confidence is soared since she started archery 18 months ago she's been over the moon about her time archery wants to keep shooting on behalf of his with in addition we have many to it archers who are neurodiverse and they found a welcoming home in archery in the district across both clubs whereas they have not found that environment and other venues despite these facts and knowing these facts Dr spicker has communicated that the district will not support the dnr's request she also suggested that other clubs are in line ahead of us for support those clubs can continue without
School support our 60 plus kids lose this opportunity when the school looks the other way Dr spicker also suggested that archers could go to other districts to compete rather than send students away from DeWitt I would urge the district to evaluate the proposal proposal you've received to continue our training to win at no cost or added effort to District resources and do the right thing for these students and their families in the next 35 days these 60 kids can only be clear from both clubs I'm not going to stand here and defend myself from what you just heard but that 60 number is kids from both clubs these 60 kids are counting on you working with the people involved in doing archery to find a solution to this problem thank you thank you Kathy yeah
in a couple years you guys should know that I played soccer through high school and I was so good I got cut from a non-cut sport and those joyous moments have been those great skills have been passed down to all of my children love them to death but you put them on a soccer field a baseball field a volleyball court they're the worst one then in comes my sixth grade son we took a couple years out of the school district for covet and we come back and his birthday was in October and we're like let's have a huge party so you can get to know all your friends again and do all this he could come up with two names two kids they can even talk to in school his grades were not what they
used to be they're not bad but he got involved in archery under the D thank you he got involved there and he made friends okay we switched to the impact various reasons I'm not against either team so it's not about whatever bickering has gone on through all that all I care about is my son with ADHD and no friends and all of a sudden now he could list 30 kids into High School cardio faster and then come and there were times it's the most diverse group we've had so many diverse conversations from the diversity in the group about disabilities and you know transgender gay rights those kind of things like that that would have never come up because those are the kids that hang out with and he's found that group and because of that
group he's actually joined other clubs within them exactly but that's how it goes he needs this club he really does in order to succeed into it right now he needs this I haven't even told him that it's up for consideration so because he'll be heartbroken I don't care who who runs it I don't care how it works I don't care merging clubs separate I don't care but the school has got to take it over because they're not kidding the 60 kids that are out there are the ones that are susceptible to bullying so the kids who are susceptible to all the things that we're trying to get out of our school and the wealth their mental well-being I'm telling you I've met these kids they are not the kids who already have friend groups before
they got to this group I hate to say that but it's a fact and my fourth grader always talk about all year with his teachers how can we get into more friends guess what he's already expressed interest in which she could do it in fifth grade for archery because he's watched his brother go from nothing to constant thoughts I really think you're doing this service if you don't do the minimum of allowing the school to take the program over and let the coaches of both teams work it out and get the volunteers in everything they need in life thank you very much for coming at Stanford hear this thank you that's why foreign I saw kids in the past suicide because of things that they were host we try to help kids advocate for them
to give me something that they didn't have which was Arch they're real rules with archer and we were found I'm trying to explain archery and how the program ran but it decided to go in a different direction real questions what good came out of all this really I see her kids I don't really attend the school or around the school tell me this I explained segregation I say this is what's going to happen I receive sure enough the kids are saying stuff to other kids Dr Stinger's email even express them do not allow this to happen but it still didn't even with parents I'm an outsider I don't live in this District but I see them I see people that will backstab a friend to one of somebody it's horrible all the years that my
children have been to this school just to watch it even though with Unity page if you looked up her bullet you'll see it hundreds and hundreds of people with their comments so bad what goes on in this history it's horrible sometimes we've done our best to try to follow what needs to be done for a program and now doctor Garland now stated it or what needs to be done we've been trying to say that right from the beginning about how this Mass program runs it's horrible again I'm glad I'm tired of slander I'm tired of the Fall accusations to my family we did our best to help around here for this District in our part you want to know whatever happened to the litigation that we were all waiting for in December I would say
a good portion of people probably lost out altogether around a thousand dollars worth of income to watch a judge in two minutes decide dismissed what's your loss could not be explained so we got thrown out done I actually have one really a lot more but again what good really came out of this and unfortunately somebody else cut their papers thank you for your comments Thank You Next Step Anella Ender and Gavin March do you both want to speak or do you want to share the three minutes um yeah this has been one of the kids that defending um and a lot of communicable me but have been um addressed as him being in theater and and causing harm to other people yeah Gavin is eccentric he is he's having struggles throughout the years anybody who's
been part of the district knows that his name has come up you know he has um he has an idea he has any Bill issues um archery helped him to come even further because it helps him to focus um he has been able to overcome a lot of things because of just being on the line and having to take the time to focus and breathe in slow his mind down those are things that he can't get in the classroom and he can't get that in any other sport he's tried multiple other reports too go get his energy into and that that does not been something that he's been able to achieve um so this program like typing in Spotify I I honestly feel a lot um I don't care about the bakery I don't care
about the fighting I don't care about any adult's opinion honestly I care about how it's affected my children and how it is affected children that I know and and children that I can see throughout these years being into it that have evolved and grown and been able to become into their own because they're around the kid told them they're around kids that accept them and are okay with who they are um you don't see that in a lot of sports programs unfortunately I don't care what the sport is whether it's called for football or volleyball there's there's a hierarchy there's clinics and archery doesn't have that right it really doesn't because nobody cares if you shoot you shoot well and we're okay with that that they don't they don't go out and say it when
I like you better because you look this way or you wear these clothes and I feel like with the way it needing to be a diverse and inclusive community it is important to take into consideration these kids who are neurodivergent we have so many in this district and it did not offer them a program that allows that you're completely different a whole group that is part of your community but we really appreciate thank you discussion on that I just want to Echo that we talk about that we I don't know what the solution is but I feel like we need to find it I would hate to see 60 plus kids out from any activity that they feel are belonging with so I'd be happy to work on a solution if you need I haven't
I have an update from vnr I will check on with them today I'd like to before you do an ability I'd like to talk about okay let's start with some of the there are many reasons this action is being taken the main reasons to do with students failure to keep the students physically emotionally and or psychologically safe during times they are gathered to practice recent behaviors including protecting the mediator and following teams to high school s clubs are incapable of meeting the expectations for the clubs and harmoniously so that's that's why the DNR took this thing did they give examples I mean I didn't see any examples because I don't know what they face that on Sports and like how they've been failure can see so unfortunately what's happened is I think there's been more
of an adult issue that's negative an impact on the kids as it seems like an inability for somebody who else to get along I just don't want to do the kids I totally agree we've been trying to work with them I think Sean has spent more time with this with these groups than any other group combine them of course and I don't disagree with anything I think that the fact that we are in this situation and we have adults we haven't done what the kids need done to be made this program sustainable and to continue it's heartbreaking but what I don't want is all of these children to not have a place to go when I think there's a possible solution that the school could assist with archery archery and to keep it going but
it would require the adults who have engaged in that type of conduct to cease it immediately I mean we can't have a program where that happens because kids are not safe so so um because what's outlined in her letter is not interpreted in a way that I think some of the clubs are trying to interpret it as so when I spoke with her my first my first concern on rectifying is the fact that the team will not be eligible for Nationals unless we get the hours taught so um I was able to get it to extend beyond Nationals but we still need to do the hours so you know we have a plan in place I talk to them about that being in place so they know that we plan to try to make that
happen by the end of May which should keep them qualified for National so that's my first concern the other the other piece is I was I talked with Lori Burford who is the supervisor of Dr Garland to talk about what we what we needed to do how this letter was interpreted um and so basically she said that both groups need together bring a proposal to me because if both groups aren't in it together it's not going to work um and then I can go forward to DNR with that proposal if it has my support group does that address what your emotion is that you Angelina has had questions so but my emotion was so that Shawna could explore options to solve the issues by the DNA and I have inspiration we can't solve DNA but
it's amazing I mean the the solution has to involve all kids it can't be a or b or one or two honors capacity office so um again she she said that I could entertain a proposal that came from both groups collaboratively to bring to her what gives you optimism that doesn't happen I I don't know I I I I I don't know because from from December when the board decided that we'll have two teams all the way to March I sent out multiple reminders about working together um and so for this program to exist it's not one team getting you know or or each team getting their own staff member like this is a could be a collective bargaining issue as well right so um it's not about getting staff members it's about the two
teams working together um and then finding a staff member that will support both teams that's not what the last four months yes yes I mean I'm just asking the question and what would give you hope that something would change that they do it for the kids that they do it for the kids minor change the DNR wants us to take it as an in-house job that's not archery at school yeah I got clarification today so we have two private groups still running archery but right now there's no groups that can exist under our tree well I mean they expire after Nationals basically but if they want to continue on next year so they would let the two teams continue I guess that's what I think they would have to be one one they have to
work together with this one I don't know okay well that's that's the emerging interceptions yeah discussion on the motion I mean it sounds like Sean is already doing it but you move but I'm can you repeat your question to me again I think that um superintendent worked to resolve the issues I think that's too strong do we know let's go for sure that there's no anyone don't support a school district that doesn't support this yet parents of the opportunity parents are letting your children down not this board I want to be very very clear the fact that my children would be able to do a program yeah please better opportunities you all have had months to figure this out and you all have failed our children if this was the football team this would not
be a done issue and now it is and I don't support that okay thank you let's go so I have a chance to say I guess no they said you don't care it doesn't matter we're done with the district that's what I want to know hey I think what it could mean is there are no clubs I mean that this becomes like the football team or like middle school and track is now where we have but that's that's what I want to clarify with what you're saying because as it stands right now the wit does not operate an archery program like we don't we sign forms no we sign forms and that's what we have agreed to do in December we allow the coaches to operate saying that we are going to fulfill our responsibilities
as part of this what I and is what I want to make clear are you asking for Shauna to make this like the high school or middle school track program where we have a staff member that we pay as part of our collective bargaining agreement okay no I'm asking for her to work with the DNR to meet the requirements to have mass which is a National Emergency program okay the parameters that are spelled out in the statute of Grant programs program back in place the issue is is what Shawna just described was two teams coming together and bringing a proposal and I'm just unclear whether that will I mean they keep there is a dispute about whether there can be two teams we have friends we've gotten legal opinions there are multiple districts that have
multiple teams it's one program so what they're saying is that if a staff member were willing to take on and register the kids or programs right and then also oversee that the hours are done so the staff member doesn't have to be a part of the club has to attend the clubs but they would be the ones so it wouldn't be each team putting in registration it would be a staff member that would oversee registration um and so my main concern is is that I can't have I can't have a staff member be involved in and referring to teams right so if we're going to get this um hopefully this I've already gotten it enabled once it's been disabled once so this will be a second time that they're willing to entertain a proposal that
I support that comes to me saying that these things are in place but they're going to have to work I mean both the DNR I spoke to today and and I am saying they have to work together it has to really be a joint effort so thank you do they need a staff person like you just described to do that yes that was an information so employee who's willing to oversee the putting it into the system so registering for tournament so if you're asking the two teams part of that solution is identifying the staff person that's willing to do this as long as they're clear on what they need to do to come together and it can't be it can't be you know the only way because I talked to her this morning or this
afternoon the only way that could possibly even be a staff member for Wanda a staff member for another as if it's a middle school high school because that's a natural split um but then how would that work if they need one person to submit with those two but a middle school program can exist in a high school program that exists and and I think that it would be bad to even have two teachers right like that's just creative yeah no it would be I mean because I mean we already learned that it's hard to um register the kids for tournaments there are only so many flights I think is what they're called and so then the two teams are almost competing against each other to get flights right um so again the proposal that I
would have to support and that the DNR would support is that they are working together as one program the end of the motion is only to have Shawna work with the DNR within the parameters that they will accept to save this program yes not to make it like our football program I just want to I don't understand your emotional career are you saying she has to do everything possible to make this conversation because I'm just not sure that that's a task because I've been trying for a year and a half and so if the two teams will not work together as a no she cannot do that so that's my concern yes okay um if you've got better language to amend the notion and striking in service I uh well I'll tell you what I
was thinking was we want superintendent to to use best efforts or something along those lines to try to work to these to this school understanding that you've been trying to work with the school like that I want to show that this board understands the plight of these kids that are before us without the program and I don't need a trauma's fault at all but they don't have a program in any way the DNR was clear in their letter I mean they were embarrassed by Dewitt's Condos for the adults involved in this program and that is mortifying I mean it's not acceptable and it shouldn't have come to this but I just want kids to be able to do it here we go so would you entertain something emotional moment to your emotional answer she'll take
steps reasonable steps to try to look at these groups do in what time frame like what are we what are we talking about it yeah my understanding of the timeline is that like I mean September is when the new season starts up the equipment yes but I've got that extended until at least the end of the month because we need the equipment to do the in-class the end of next yeah I mean that's always been a springtime activity when we've done that so um and we had already fitted to do that part we did although you know the principal stuff that the the communication are like oh I guess we don't have to do this now but I said well so that's I got clarification because even even Lori had said no I think you're
okay because it's within the year but um Kathy confirmed that you be done by the end of this year for them to be eligible for them so what's that made one as a Target to have the groups similar proposal to you three weeks from today okay I do have one more question on the comment that the principles of scientist academic achievements there are reasons for that I think the the biggest thing was is that because we didn't it's not a district Sport and I'm not sure what the awards are they never came to me um that you know we were looking at what forms do we sign what needs to be signed so um I'm not going to take a look at that yeah it's part of Nashville it's part of the integrated program and
these students are eligible for those who work in academic recognitions the thing I assign it with the caveat of it we're an inactive program or it is somehow inappropriate to do that while we're in active and that would make sense but I don't know you have a motion on the table all up here for that motion please say hi hi any opposed Okay so so we had our county-wide safety meeting and our agreement renewal so this agreement renewals between the CC erisa all the districts law enforcement agencies and across prosecuting attorney so to keep schools safe I also attended a virtual teams meeting with FBI Detroit field office and representatives Walkin On the hopes of school shooting threats in the state of Michigan to learn more about that and then we had our policy committee
which you heard about and the calendar for next year has been confirmed so that is going to be uploaded on the website and emailed out to family so in tomorrow all right so um we'll have to start a school and open houses and things development CLT days you saw the Strategic plan the only other update I had was one to address the youth Mental Health First Aid question so youth Mental Health First Aid is training they actually have for teens which were a little bit right now we do for staff so we've had bus drivers paraprofessionals teachers coaches and they're trained on a process which helps them see warning signs of students who are experiencing depression trauma self-harm so they look for warning signs and then they really guide students to the appropriate support so
it's just like first aid when you're thinking about um CPR it's you know they're we're not saying we're doctors or capable of addressing the needs but we get them to the people who are so they have like a five-step program and it's basically making sure that staff knows how to identify it that they feel comfortable in approaching um and then listening non-judgmentally is a huge part so kids need to be able to speak as to what they're feeling and then it gives them a chance to say are you willing to get some help let's go talk to the counselor or let's you know make sure we talk to a parent so if that's what I don't know the last thing is that um our bus routes and alternatives for next year are being explored so
we are still struggling getting drivers so Transportation came to me with a plan of maybe having um less bus stops could prevent us from canceling routes so that I've given them permission to explore that we'll be combining both shady and herbison woods we're going to continue to try to get subs obviously but by reducing the number of stops we can decrease the amount of time to spend on buses and have less I mean I even looked into edu staff and they're like yeah we we say we can get you sub drivers but we can't we can't do something so um so they do have I think a good plan in place um and the nice thing is is by the end of this year we could potentially know what that looks like so we can
start communicating with families early on so they can think about what those routes look like so I didn't think it's recommendation by superintendent Sean has figured the Board of Education during a closed session to discuss negotiation strategy of a lot of intersection PC meetings Act do you have a motion promote support this will be a low cost your hands Baker Mr Hanselman yes for Stoddard yes that's good yes and Mr Weaver closed session now thank you all [Music] thank you um and Brad should be here for the 24th so the air um talked to him today
