001We will get started. I'll call to order >> forgot my pen so I got lost. here. >> Trusty Chambers >> present. >> Trusty Torres >> here. Trusty Taki >> here. Our student representatives will not be with us tonight. Superintendent Leel. >> Thank you so much. Um Trusty Torres, can I have you read our mission statement, please? >> Yes. Our mission statement, nurturing each child, educating all students, building citizens. >> Thank you. Can I get approval of agenda? >> That the board of education approve the March 9, 2026 regular meeting agenda as presented. >> Second move by Trustee Taki, seconded by Trustee Chambers. All in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? Motion passes. Can I get approval of minutes? >> I move the board of education approve the minutes of the February 23rd, 2026 regular meeting

002as presented. >> Second. Um, motion by Trusty Edel, seconded by Trusty Torres. All in favor? >> Any discussion? >> Oh, yes. Any discussion? Terra told me I had to hurry up. >> She's pulling you that way. >> I know. Any discussion? Not hearing any. Um, all in favor? >> Any opposed? Motion passes. All right, we will move on to recognition. Uh Trusty uh Martin, you know, we have lots of um recognition. >> We have lots of recognition. So, let me um make sure I have everything here. I'm going to try to keep it all straight. Um we will start with recognition from Marble Elementary. It says, "Marble Elementary School was delighted to welcome Michigan Opera Outreach under the direction of Jenny Rivierro for Opera 101, an all school assembly performance on Thursday, February 26th. Fourth

003grade classes enjoyed working with the teaching artists to create unique versions of famous opera liberttos during music class. Like to thank the city of East Lancing Arts Commission for supporting this event through a cultural arts grant. Thank you for supporting music education and the arts in our school. A huge shout out and thank you to Carla Larselier for filling out the grant, connecting with the Michigan Opera Outreach, and organizing the performance assembly. Sammy Tucker has almost single-handedly created the East Lancing Volleyball Club. She has recruited teams and coaches, organized a volleyball league for the teams to compete in, similar to Red Cedar basketball, and continues to build a youth volleyball program to to prepare our players for volleyball in high school, and I should say in middle school. So, way to go, S. from East

004Lancing High School. On Wednesday, February 26th, East Lancing High School welcomed visiting future Chinese educators from Beijing Normal University. The visit included a school tour, classroom visits, and a Q&A session with staff. The visit is part of a partnership between the university and Michigan State University's global engagement education program. Thank you to East Lancing High School English teacher Stephen Neil for supporting uh principal Ashley Schwarz in facilitating this visit. This is from Glen Karen Elementary. It says, "We recently opened our clothing closet uh that's open to all elementary schools. The fundraiser was organized by a group of K5 volunteers. So, it's like a clothing drive. It's a lovely space where students can shop and take home items they need. And we've also donated hundreds of nonp perishable food items to Ed Edgewood Village which was

005organized through our same committee which is called Glenar gives back a lot of information here so trying to make sure I get it all this one's from McDonald Middle School. Um, congratulations to the McDonald Middle School Math Counts team for their excellent showing at the regional math counts competition held at Michigan State University on Friday, February 20th. The team consisting of Marie Arman, Sever Anderson, Eloise Heden, and Walter Kellut placed third as a team. Eloise Haden placed seven seventh in the written rounds and advanced to fourth place in the countdown round qualifying for the upcoming state competition. Emmy Heden also qualified for the countdown round. Congratulations to Micah BS, Bixby Carlson, Shawn Day, Emmy Heden, Daniel Cult, Maddie Record, and Croy Sanders who also represented MMS at the competition. And then uh there is another

006congratulations to the Science Olympiad team that we uh recognized at our last meeting. And then the third item is the robotics team competed at the if it works, it works competition. It was the state competition this past weekend. It says, "Congratulations to Sean Anderson, Marie Arman, and Quinn Jackson on their accomplishments. um from Donley uh Donley Elementary This is from Miss Barton. I want to recognize Taran Tucker, second grade teacher at Donley Elementary, for her dedication to promoting literacy and creating meaningful opportunities for our students. Miss Tucker applied for Donley second grade cohort to participate in the Detroit Lions Tackle Reading event on March 4th, 2026 at Ford Field. Thanks to her efforts, our students were able to attend this exciting literacy celebration and experience a unique learning opportunity. During the event, students participated in

007engaging activities such as the Seuss Olympics. They listened to Detroit Lions tied in Brock Reed Brock Wright read out loud and took part in an interactive literacy experience designed to foster a love of reading. The program, which features former Lions players Aaron Stokes and Ross Weaver, emphasizes the importance of literacy through movement, storytelling, and community involvement. Thanks to Miss Tucker's leadership and dedication to literacy, Donley second grade students experience reading in a lively, memorable setting. Opportunities like this not only focus on the importance of literacy, but also motivate students to see reading as exciting, empowering, and connected to their community. Being meeting Detroit Lions players and running on the field with the mascot definitely adds to the experience. We appreciate Miss Tucker's commitment to our students and our ongoing efforts to create enriching learning moments

008that bring literacy to life. So, that's really nice. Um, congratulations to the students. participate in that. There also a couple of really impressive uh athletic individual athletic achievements that I think we should recognize. Um and the first we have a state champion uh in the gymnastics floor exercise, Tia Andrews, state champion, which is an incredible accomplishment. And um I know I'm not breaking any news here because it's been all over social media, but uh earlier this afternoon uh one of our boys basketball players, KJ Torbert, was named uh Mr. Basketball for the state of Michigan. It's the first time that uh East Lancing has had a Mr. Basketball winner. We have two previous Miss Basketballs, but never had a Mr. Basketball. So, we made a little history today and um congratulations to him and to

009uh his team and to all the students who are competing sports right now. >> Thank you, Trustee Martin. Any other recognition from anyone else? >> Lots of impressive Yeah, thank you so much. I always love hearing what's happening in our schools and with our students and teachers. So, thank you for that report. Um our student representatives are not here. They are busy with um the musical um and practicing for that. So, we will turn to our superintendent report. Um, so, Superintendent, >> thank you. I have fairly short one today. And I'll also add it's also Michigan's ever uh Michigan's first ever father son Mr. Basketball duo, 25 years apart. So, it was uh yeah, really kind of it was exciting to experience and only the fourth out of um the Michigan area um in since

010I think the inception of Mr. Basketball. So, yeah, a fun day for sure. Uh a little bit about kindergarten registration is open um for 26 27. If you or someone you know has a child who will turn five by December 1st, they are eligible to attend kindergarten. We also have free prek for all spots available for fall of 2026. And then when this goes out tomorrow and I have um the link on there for families prospective families um who are looking to enroll either a kindergarten student or a prek student. So we'll get that all out tomorrow. Um but opening and getting folks at least registered. We need this information early as early as possible because it helps um helps my team make a recommendation to the board for how many schools of choice slots

011we'll have available. So the best the better um data numbers we can get the earlier uh the more better accuracy we have with that. And then I've added in again it's been in the last um uh update or two about our new office since we're here now. We hadn't two weeks ago we weren't here quite yet. So, I've got the new address on here. Um, and what departments are over here and also just uh thanking the community for supporting our 2024 safety, security, and accessibility bond proposal. And the remaining work at East Lancing High School and McDonald Middle School is scheduled to be completed by the end of the summer. That's all I have today. >> All right. Thank you. Any questions or comments for superintendent? Now hearing in any we'll uh move to our

012public hearing. Um this is uh open the public hear. Do I do that by time? >> The 7:14 we're going to just do that. Um, so the public hearing is a recommendation of the sex education advisory board to approve the adoption of the revised 2025 Michigan model HIV and other STI unit to replace the 2010 2012 version for seventh and eighth grades. Um, we have uh Ann Scott here um if you'd like to come on up to give some comments. Um, she's the ELPS sex education supervisor. to see you again. >> Nice to see you again. Um yeah, so uh so what we have is a recommendation from the uh East Lancing Public Schools Sex Education Advisory Board for the update as described. I was here just a couple weeks ago to give an overview

013of that. Um but just to recap for anyone that um missed that or is listening um essentially what we're looking to do is update the curriculum that we're already using. Uh last year MDE did some updates to their um health education curriculum, the Michigan model. Um they used to have the sex education, HIV and SDI prevention as its own sort of sidecar um curriculum. And so what they did is they brought it into the Michigan model health curriculum. So now there's a standalone HIV STI prevention unit within Michigan model. Um and so what that means for us is that in the update there are three core HIV STI prevention lessons. And that in our curriculum we use right now, those same three lessons are there, although they're a little bit updated. Um and there were

014four additional lessons um that had to do with like healthy relationships, avoiding risky situations and those have been shifted into the social emotional learning component of the or unit for seventh and eighth grade. So essentially what the recommendation is is that the three core lessons are up to date. They're in a virtual format which um I know our educators are very excited to have access to. Um, and this will update what we've got in terms of content for our educators to use. And there any questions that I can answer? >> No question, but just appreciation to you for being here tonight and then also you came to academic tech this morning. Um, so appreciate your time and investment and we got to even more detailed um report out about all the changes well changes and

015just details about the curriculum. It sounds really great. So, thank you so much for all of your dedicated >> Thank you. >> Um this is time for public comment. I don't know. All right. So, we will close um public uh hearing at 787. >> Just for this I have public comment. Um all right. So that portion is closed and now we will move to our public comment. Um so this is the opportunity to address the board. Speakers are to confine the remarks to five minutes. If a speaker requires more than five minutes after all other persons who have requested to speak during this part of the meeting have spoken, that speaker will be allowed additional time. The superintendent or other district staff may comment to clear up or avoid significant misunderstandings. Um, and so if

016anyone has any public comment, I have two here. There are um blue forms over there that you can fill out if you would like to give public comment. And our first um is Sarah Wilson on White Hills ASD. >> Oh, you can come right over to the podium. >> Thank you. >> That was kind of a small. >> Yes. My name is Sarah Wilson. Um I have a son, Nick Tate, who's in the ASD program at White Hills. Uh we have had a lot of concerns with the programs at White Hills. He's currently in fifth grade. Uh his gened teacher is Miss Lions and his ASD teacher, Miss Zambova, recently resigned. We went to a parent teacher conference on Thursday that was being conducted by Principal Williams and Dr. Armstrong. We've been concerned about ongoing

017issues with the ASD program at White Hills. My husband Forest and I uh have have been in communication trying to uh you know we went to the conference trying to address the issues. I honestly feel like there's just a lot of smoke being blown around. We were not impressed with the idea put forth in the conference that the ASD room is suddenly doing amazingly in the sample's absence. Uh we were presented with extremely suggestive subjective evaluations that showed a lot of growth in three weeks. She left till the evaluation was done and we weren't really impressed with that. There seemed to be a lot of efforts to throw Miss Zambopa under the bus to explain any issues with the program that were not wellreceived and we believe show an unwillingness to examine the actual issues

018that have been plaguing the program pretty much since Nick's entire time there. This is the second time the teacher has actually quit mid year while he's been at the program. We were ever more frustrated when following that conference, we had a conference with his general education teacher where asking her questions about how he's doing and how often he's coming to class. Uh she said he'd only been there about three to five times total since Miss Samboa resigned uh in that whole month since she resigned. Previously, he'd been going every morning and most afternoons he does leave early uh to go to ABA therapy twice a week, but about eight times a week, he'd been pushing into general education, and he'd only been there three to five times since she left. Uh I arranged a classroom

019observation with Miss Williams, which I did on Tuesday, March 3rd. She had originally suggested Thursday, but I wasn't sure I'd be able to attend Thursday. I asked her to do Wednesday, and then she informed me that she wasn't available Wednesday. I wasn't really clear why her availability mattered. Uh I assured her that I've, you know, I volunteered. I've been there before. Like I I didn't really know why she needed to be there. Uh she was quite insistent that she would be in the room and it wouldn't be a disruption. And I just don't know where you find an educator who would think that the principal be in the room isn't an abnormal situation for both the kids and the staff who are in the room. You know, I want to observe the class like it

020is. Uh, I specifically had to tell her that I did not want her to be in the room. And I thought that was really kind of odd. Like, and I really arranged that observation because I found it odd that Dr. Armstrong and Miss Williams were running the conferences. There apparently was no staff who works in the ASD room. We wouldn't be put in front of parents to participate in the conferences. And where my biggest concern really comes in is the what seems to be an active effort to keep the actual staff working with the kids from having unsupervised contact with the parents. I asked for someone to contact when Miss Amba resigned because I need to contact someone for my son's daily needs. You know, if his boots get left there, if there's no snow

021pants, if he comes home with someone else's shoes, I need to be able to tell someone that that those things need to be addressed. I was eventually given uh Julie Rar. I'm not I say her last name right. I'm sorry. She's the speech therapist and she's been very helpful, but she's not in the room. She's not even in the building a lot of the time because she works in multiple buildings. I I don't know why someone who was in the room couldn't be provided as the contact. Uh I had brought up with Miss Williams that I didn't know who was working in the room and I thought maybe someone named Veronica was because at one point I knew there were two pairs named Veronica. Uh the only reason I know now that it's Veronica Loud

022is because I did the class observation. I still was never provided who was working in the room. When I was there, there were six kids present and five staff members. Uh which the uh observation was occurring during social work time where the kids are pretty much just watching videos, which is a fun activity to do together, but obviously going to be kind of an easy thing. And I really think I was set up to come either Tuesday or Thursday during that window because it was just going to be such a easy activity and there were there was going to be more staff in the room. So I know both Nick and another ASD student are in Miss Lion's class and the previous arrangement has been one parrot goes with both of them to general education

023with all the staff that was in the room. They were the third of the class. Why can't a parrot have been taking them there all this time? I I just I can't explain that at all. Miss Lions didn't indicate Nick's been having any sort of behavioral issues or anything that would bar him from being in the room. It's just not being done. Forest, as a teacher, I work in law enforcement. We're both aware of the realities of the world and budget constraints and personnel issues. And we have some understanding that things are in flux right now. But it's just charitable to say that that meeting was an active effort to put a very positive spin on things. And the complete omission that he hasn't been attending Jenna is just infuriating. You know, under Miss I

024feel has really blossomed. He's mostly nonverbal. I can't ask him what's happening every day. Uh to have Miss Ambboa suddenly gone and then getting the runaround from admin. >> It's five minutes. Um we have one more and then we can have time for you. I'm sorry. Thank you though very forestate White Hills ASD program. Yeah, Sarah's my wife, Nick's my son. I've been teaching for 22 years. I've known two educators who quit midyear outside of the two who've now quit in my son's ASD program and his kindergarten teacher who went to another school. She said it was it was a lot closer for her. I commute 40 minutes away to AASO every day because I know of a school where I fit in, where I'm supported, and where I'm helped. If you truly care about

025a building, you'll stay. So that's three teachers. He's in fifth grade. You should have had one, maybe two. We had four paras in the room at Christmas time. We're down to one of them now. Now, we have hired someone new as of last week. So, that's one step in the right direction. But why did three pairs have to quit and the teacher quit? I also don't know why the librarian quit, but that's total side note. It's just a lot of departures very suddenly, very close together and a repeated pattern. At the conference that we attended with Miss Williams and Dr. Armstrong. We were lied to. Why the first teacher left? They said, "Oh, no. She left to go join an ABA clinic." No. I spoke to the former teacher. She did not leave to go

026join an ABA clinic. She was frustrated with administration. What level of administration? I don't know. I know that it wasn't just for blowing smoke either because I f spoke with a former special ed director who said the exact same thing. Mind you, he put a different spin on it, saying that she had requested more help than was feasible and she wanted to run the room in a way that wasn't appropriate and it caused conflict. I can understand that it happens. But when you have two teachers leave mid year, I know Miss Simova was not complaining about the students and I know she didn't have health issues. The only thing left in my opinion is administration. I don't know what else it could be. This appears to be a recurring problem at White Hills. I emailed

027about this on Thursday, including Dr. Armstrong, Miss Williams, Superintendent Leo. I understand that things are hard. I haven't gotten a response yet. It's Monday night. It we are informed today we have a new long-term sub who's going to be in my son's room. That's great. That's wonderful. Why? It took over a month to get a long-term sub. So, he'll have Miss Smoba, dayto-day subs for over a month, a long-term sub, and then finally in May, they plan to have a full-time teacher hire. I'm all about that. I've been a long-term sub. I've been a day-to-day sub. I've been a teacher. One thing that does not help any student, let alone ASD students, is a lack of consistency. And so, instead, we have day-to-day subs. no clear idea who's doing unit planning, lesson planning, curriculum design,

028anything. So, what's been happening for the past month? Who knows? Who knows what the long-term sub will bring because we don't have their email yet, even though it was able to get rid of Miss Simobas before noon the next day after she quit. So, I don't understand how it can get rid of somebody very quickly and efficiently, but can't efficiently bring someone in. But that's it. They take their time. It's natural. One of the things we were told at conferences is that the room has gotten much quieter and the students are much more restrained. In autism, stmming, flapping, running, jumping, bouncing. These are done to regulate the body because of intellectual stimulation. If these kids are sitting still and silent, it's because there's a lack of intellectual rigor. that worries me. Uh, the sketchy test

029results, they apparently more than doubled what any ABA therapist, I know cuz I sit in on the ABA therapy sessions and his private speech therapist has ever recorded. I'm skeptical to say the least. So I go to a conference where I'm lied to. Evaded questions. Lots of blame is heaped on the previous teacher with no accountability. I'm not oppressed. The least restrictive environment is required by the Supreme Court. That is the law. So it's ethical. It's moral. It's understandable. Especially when you're trying to nurture every child and educate all students. We shouldn't have to fight for my son to be in genet. It shouldn't have to be part of his IEP specifically because there's days he shouldn't be in that room. And I want to be able to leave it to the teacher's discretion because

030he's disregulated. There's bad things going on. There's an event involving foods he can't eat. I don't want to put him there. So why do I have to have this in an IEP when this is the law? That's absurd. Uh the lack of communication is really bothersome. We have a daughter at Robert Green who has an outstanding school career. Outstanding. Constantly great teachers, great support, zero complaints, absolutely wonderful. Everything I've heard and believed about East Lansing School District. That's the gened program. Why is my son's ASD program totally different? I don't know. But that's worrisome to me. That's especially worrisome to me. We get emails from the principal from both schools. My email box is nothing but school emails, and I appreciate the amount of communication I get in that regard. But why am I lacking

031communication regarding the specifics of my son? Why do I have to wait Friday and all day today? And I understand time is tight and I understand there's 8 million emails and I'm just a teacher. I can't even imagine what you have to sort through this like that's a lot of emails. I couldn't do it. That's why I'd rather teach but well and never get hired as superintendent. But that's besides but my point here is there's a lot of things that are going on that don't add up in any way, shape or form. One sketchy thing I can spuds slide. Two, sure, it happens. But we have not my son not going to his legal required, least restrictive environment. We have wise outright wise being told to me at the parent teacher conference where I can't

032even meet with his room supervisors because there isn't one and there's no consistent parents who might know my son and how to actually work with him other than one remain. That's a serious concern. >> The time is up and I I know it was just you two but I wanted to >> Thank you. I tried to back. >> Yeah, >> it won't be long. >> Well, once we start hard this time, >> exactly sure where I left off, but basically, yes, my son is mostly non-verbal. You know, I can't ask him dayto-day what's going on. Uh to have Miss Zanoba Zamboa suddenly gone and then getting run around from the admin there has really broken my trust in them. While I know there are a lot of great staff working at the building and in

033the classrooms there, I can't help but think that their success is in spite of the administration there instead of because of it. If what Miss Zambo was doing was not in line with the goals of the school district, then the school district needs to change their goals. >> Thank you. Um, next on our agenda is board discussion. Do we have any board discussion? >> I don't know if this counts as board discussion, but since our student reps aren't here because they're in the pit orchestra for Mean Girls, I just wanted to shout out that Mean Girls is opening March 12th. You should all go to the show. It's incred books written by Tina Fay the um it's composed by her husband Jeff Richmond who's the amazing composer and it has some of the best like

034female power ballad anthems in it and it's really good. >> Do they have a Wednesday show where we can all wear pink? >> That would be amazing. I don't know why they didn't do that >> next time. So, I'm going Friday if anyone wants to come with awesome. >> All right, we'll move to um action items. Can we get a motion for uh seventh and eighth grade HIV STI education curriculum approval recommendation? >> I move that the board of education approve the adoption of the revised 2025 Michigan model HIV and other STI's unit to replace the 2010/202 version. >> Second. Moved by Trustee Edel, seconded by Trustee Torres. Any discussion? Um, all in favor? >> Any opposed? Motion passes. Um, can I get a motion for award bids for safety, security, and accessibility bond? that

035the board of education award the following bids related to the high school edition and middle school update as follows. Category 8A, high school doors, frames, and hardware to William Brankenbach Company, $326,950. Category 8B, middle school doors, frames, and hardware, Integrity Interiors Incorporated, $238,392. Category 9B flooring omega floors $327,777 for a total of 923,119. >> Moved by Trustee Chamber, seconded by Trustee Edel. Any discussion? >> Um, I just uh I was in the middle school recently and saw some of the Granted, this is all reasonably new with the sixth grade edition what, 10 years ago. Um, that uh had some duct tape on it. So, um, >> it's new. >> It It is new for that. And I was having a conversation with a parent um just talking about the door frames and hardware and making

036it so teachers don't, if I recall this correctly, have to go out into the hall to lock the doors to to secure them in in safety situations. So much needed, much appreciated to both the community and to uh superintendent and I think Rich Pew was on this in the beginning and Lisa Allen here at the end. So thank you all. >> And this is a question I think I've asked before. This is all work that we expect to happen before the beginning of the next school year. Is that right? >> Very good. That's it's awesome. All right. Um, so all in favor? >> Any opposed? Motion passes. >> Um, can I get a motion on award bids for safety, security, and accessibility bond bid for the high school middle school? >> I move the board

037of education award the following bids related to the high school edition and middle school update as follows. Category 23A high school building HVAC controls to train for 1 million 9,948. Category 23B, middle school building HVAC controls to train for $680,32 for a total of uh1,799,980. >> Second. >> All right. Um, that was motioned by Trustee Edo, seconded by Trusty Ferris Highland. Um, any discussion? >> My middle asked what was on the docket for tonight and I told him um middle school Hback uh bids and he said, "Oh, that is really needed. Please say yes because it's either really hot or really cold in there." >> So, he encourages us all to vote. >> Well, with that, I will definitely vote yes. >> Any other discussion? >> Okay. All in favor? >> I Any opposed? Motion

038passes. He will be happy. >> Let him know. He'll be thrilled. >> Okay, we'll move on to our committee reports. Um, Trusty Chambers, academic and technology. >> Yeah. So, we um talked briefly with uh Miss Scott with the sex ed update. We got a little bit basically the um update that we got tonight with a little bit additional detail. And the other thing was we talked briefly about our um curriculum um related to ELA and um yeah that was the bulk of our conversation some other miscellaneous items but our next meeting is April 6th um our next two meetings will be in the hub um because we have students on our committee um we'll continue to meet at the high school for the meetings where the students are present but our two summer meetings will

039have will be here and those for those meetings will be posted on the website. >> Thank you. Um facilities trustee uh >> my goodness, you know what I >> I know what you're saying. >> You know, >> um no report. >> How you feeling? >> No report, but we'll set a meeting within the next couple weeks to get an update from winter and into spring. >> Thank you. Finance committee trust >> trusty Taki is gonna handle this update. >> Yeah. Okay. All right. >> I met all by myself with Lisa and uh Mark on uh the second and uh uh let's see. We discussed the Chartwells contract renewal which is going to be um in our board packet I think for next time. >> As soon as we get the approval back from the state

040um we've got a balance of $800 that will need to be spent down on that. Um as Superintendent Leo has already updated the board. The um negotiations are still active between administration and the district's three bargaining units on um use of section 27 L2 educator compensation in the budget. Um uh we talked a bit about budget prep for next year and the governor's proposed per pupil funding is increased this year to 10,300. That's the proposal, but uh there isn't much additional planning that can happen at this point um or guesstimates to be made without uh hearing the Senate and House budget proposals. So, we're waiting on that for comparison. Um although the governor uh is promoting increased funding for literacy, so we're expected to see um uh increases there and upcoming board recommendations, Chartwells and

041the Doorbeds. And I failed to note when our next meeting is. >> It's April 6th, but I have a two o'clock meeting that date. So, or I might have a two o'clock meeting. So, I'll keep in touch with you if I that meeting does happen and we might have to move the finance committee. That's all right. Thank you. >> Thank you. That intergovernmental relations trustee Torres, we can meet tomorrow here at 11 a.m. Personnel Committee. Uh, Trusty Martin, >> Policy Committee. Trusty Edel, >> let me just ask >> this year. We did it last year, right? >> So, um, and it was a it was it was a I believe it was a highly favorable uh evaluation. So, I don't believe it's necessary unless >> superintendent wants to do it this year. >> Do we

042need to file something to say we're skipping new year? >> I'll check on that and get back. >> Thank you. >> I'll I'll let uh I'll let Trusty Martin know with all of you >> as we've done. Yeah. As we've done in the past, I think kind of a resolution. >> We're closing in on that time. >> Would you like to Go ahead and get the game done for an evaluation. >> No, thank you. >> Unless we can get the guy who did it two and a half years ago, >> trustee at policy committee, >> we did not meet. We will be meeting April 6 at 10:30 a.m. >> ina trusty tak. >> I see you closing the computer. I told you I've got a long one though. Um, so we met on uh March

0439 and we got a huge legislative update from Jennifer Smith with the Michigan Association of School Boards. Um but the items that were specific to the ISD again that the governor has released the proposed budget and per pupil spend is up. Um we've spent a little time talking about the the recommended move to weighted foundations and how um that will be good in hopefully providing better resources for our students with the highest need. Um, and also with the push for literacy, they expect that all ISDs will get at least one more uh, literacy coach hired um, next year, which would be great. Hopefully more than one. Um, we got an awesome superintendent update from somebody named Dory Lego. She seemed pretty cool. Um, she talked about how the superintendents are working to build a a

044strong network of middle school administrators, similar to the network they have of superintendent and also high school administrators. um gave an update on the work they're doing with Jason Russell of Secure Environmental Consultants to build common language for all our schools. Um when we have to work with law enforcement since in um situations there's law enforcement coming in from multiple districts, it's critical that we're all using common language to communicate with them. So they're working on that. showed off the updated uh education policy guide was very um and then I also realized that like these meetings we get a little update from all of our neighboring districts and I never include those in my notes but I thought I should start just so we can sort of I can share out what's happening in other

045districts because we don't ever really get to talk to them. So really quickly um Lancing sent some students to a leadership conference in Washington DC and they're also launching some improved branding to help unify all the schools in their district. Um Leslie said Business as usual. Stockbridge sent a robotics team to the Dominican Republic. They got some news coverage. Pretty cool, I know. Danville successfully refinanced a bond and saved $2.4 million there. So, that was good news for them. Um, students were able to participate in animal science and observed a bunch of piglets being delivered. Um, Hol is in the process of selecting superintendent candidates and they have a millage renewal coming up in August. Weberville, uh, similar to East Lancing, their basketball team is on a tear right now. Uh, in Williamston, they have

046a 97% graduation rate, which they bragged was the highest in the ISD, so kudos to them. And >> Williamson, >> and uh, they did a groundbreaking for a new building out there, too. We know what that's like. And uh and then the IST, it's competition season for them and they had a great showing at a regional demonstration and some students are going to go on to nationals and they had a particularly high showing in culinary skills. And our next meeting for ISOA is um May 6. So we don't have an April meeting. We meet on May 6 at 8 a.m. in person at the Thornberg Education Center in Mason. And May 6 is also the date of the next election where we'll all be voting um on the bond proposal to build a new Beakman

047Center and renovate the Hartwood School. Um and Ingam ISD Superintendent Jason Melmo will be at our next board meeting, correct? To present to the whole district on that proposal. So I recommend you all come back to hear that presentation because it's a good one. >> Thank you. >> Okay, now thank you for that update. It's always nice to other districts have going on. So, thanks for sharing that. >> Um, so our next announcements, our next regular scheduled meeting of the board of education is March 23rd, 2026. Um, any other announcements? >> I will unfortunately not be at our next board meeting. Uh, as Marcus has another Makeish and we will be at the Detroit Pistons Los Angeles Lakers baseball game in um in Detroit. >> That's cool. Speaking of basketball, is there a basketball game

048tomorrow? >> Oh, yeah. Right. >> Is it regional finals? >> It is the quarterinal >> at Don Johnson Fieldhouse. Is it 700 p.m. tomorrow? >> Yes. >> Against Ann Arbor Pioneer. >> If they win tomorrow, it's Friday. >> Friday. >> Okay. >> All right. Well, thank you everyone. will adjourn at 7:47.
