Let's see. So, is Aubrey taking notes? >> She's just gonna take >> the recording. Okay, >> great. In this >> I know. I'm just trying to find the agenda. Here we go. Right on top. All right, great. Um, thank you all for coming. I'd like to call the meeting to order. If you would please rise and we'll start with the pledge of allegiance. And the flag is over there. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. And we have all board members present except Brian who's probably coming in after some kid event I would guess. Um a welcome to Griffin Chisum who is our new student rep. Um and then are

there any other people you want to welcome right now? >> Uh we have couple parents. We have some past parents. Hans are here and then we have our SRO's and I think we're good. >> Great. Okay. Um a review of the agenda. We do have a couple of additions. Um one is will be accept. Well, we'll discuss Jeff's res letter of resignation. Um or retirement, I should say. Letter of retirement. That sounds better. >> It does to me. and more appropriate. Um, and then, uh, we'd also like to add, um, discussion and approval of a search firm. Um, and then discussion and potentially approval of the salary schedule for OS reporting. >> Just from my notes, where are those going to go in here? Will that be like 7.10 or >> they go 8 8.3?

>> Okay. 4 8.5. >> Yeah. Okay. Thanks. >> Yep. And I I'll make sure I take some notes on that, too. >> Okay. Any other changes to the agenda? Okay, great. Uh, with that, we'll move to the consent agenda. >> Brian's here. >> Hello, Brian. Um, so I would entertain a motion to approve the consent agenda. So, >> Liz, >> second, >> Megan. Any discussion on consent agenda items? Hearing none. All those in favor? I >> I. >> Any opposed? Great. Okay. At this point, we will open it up for anybody in the public who'd like to say something. Um, anyone interested? No. Okay. Great. Uh, superintendent report. >> All right. quickly because we have pretty full agenda. Um just a number of meetings at the top of the page ranging from superintendent meetings at

the ISD to meeting with Jeff Hogan and Annley and Amber Wilson regarding early childhood. Met with Heather uh Sauls at the ISD for budget review. Uh Niola conversation uh updates we'll talk about a little while staff development day took place. Um couple things with our projects. Uh the new signage for the parking lot uh should be here uh around November 20th. Lights, they're going to get there. Uh we did receive $147,000 in reimbursement from a grant from the Benzy District Le Department that we put that right back into the bond for uh our wellness project. Uh which has been completed by the way. Um new new updated staff room. uh very nice nurses area office and then we added two counseling offices or switched some things around. Uh high school hallway carpet and furnishings will

be here over the winter break and then at some point I'll send an email out tomorrow. I think we're at that point. We need to set our long range planning committee meeting quickly uh to have some of these conversations. Our early childhood update is there. I kind of mentioned that to you and I'll continue to have that conversation with our long range planning committee uh state and federal budget. Uh Heather put some things together. Uh Brian, you had requested she's going to come to our next finance meeting and go through it because it's a little harder. It's easier to explain. Uh right now I believe we're in good shape. Uh as far as we know, uh we haven't seen anything that uh would counter that. Uh action priorities that is uh included in your packet.

That'll be an update during 7.6. And with that said, before I move any further, I would like to have Deputy Maul and our new SRO, uh, Megan or I'm sorry, uh, Miss Cook to stand up and introduce yourselves. And I want to take a minute before I go any further uh, to thank I really want to thank Suzanne for her time with us. Uh, it's been awesome. Uh, we will greatly miss you and I know the kids will miss you. Um, so I'd like you to kind of take it away for us. >> A nice and fuzzy one. >> Yeah, thank you. Um, so I will miss the school for sure, but I'm gonna pop in here and there. Um, so I'm going to be moving tonight, um, 5:00 PM to 5:00 am. Um, and

I'm taking a mental health deputy spot. So I will be trained in, um, different mental illnesses, uh, substance abuse, uh, suicidal individuals, and how to handle those. And then, um, I'll help on the road wherever I'm needed there. Um, and so this is Deputy Morgan Cook. She I'm going to be with her the next two days. She was with me today. She was introduced to a lot of the kids and um kind of shown around uh the buildings and she has Do you have Do you want to tell them your background? >> Um so Morgan Cook, I've been with Benzy Sheriff's Office for a total of four years. Uh two of those were corrections and then the last two were um on the road as a road patrol deputy. Um, super excited to be in

the schools and get to know more about all of you. Um, and to build those relationships and rapports with all these kids and to just kind of be a part of this this community because I don't see much of this from my spot on the road. So, I'm excited to be here. Um, thank you all for letting me have this opportunity. >> Yes. >> I'm just curious, was this a position that you requested or >> Yep, it was. Um, so they needed to pull her pretty quickly to keep the CH position. Um, and they we had a quick meeting kind of spur of the moment and she said that she wanted the CH spot and they asked does anybody want the school spot and I had talked to Deputy McKinley about it previously so I

had been thinking about it and nobody else said anything so I raised my hand. So >> well welcome. Thank you very much and thank you D. >> Big shoes to fill there. And do you like dogs? >> Well, thank you very much. And you are more than welcome to stay and and more than welcome to leave when you need to, too. So, thank you very much. >> Uh, moving along. At your table is the long legal sheet that's colored with uh schools of choice. And I think that's a very interesting uh read if you start to look at that and we won't go any more detail. It's pretty self-explanatory. It talks about number of incoming students we have and the number of exiting students we have from the district. And as you can see there's

a really large variance between who we bring in and who we exit. So that's good information to have. I think it says a number of things for our district. uh and that number of incoming continues to go up and actually our release is about actually it's a little bit lower uh or the same. So, but we're releasing around 21 about 21 and we're bringing in 242 as of the count from uh Margaret's work and she's continuing to work on some other uh items that she's happy to share uh with the board primarily in a workshop. Um all of the pupil accounting she does, but more importantly, uh what those var variables are from at risk to free and reduced to 504. There's about 10 uh probably eight of those, but each one of those come

with different caveats and she's happy to discuss that with us at a board workshop. Uh Thanksgiving holiday dinner, I'm sorry, Thanksgiving holiday. Uh we dismiss on the 26th at 12:30 and we'll be out of school for 27th and 28th. And also uh in a couple pages back uh we have the priority standards that we'll talk about in a little bit. And then I wanted you to see it's on page 21 the IDP process that's now on our website. Thank you Mr. Tisworth for doing that. Uh he's also adjusted our website a little bit and I did a lot of nice things with it. I encourage you to take a look at that. It's very uh you open that up and the first thing you see are students and kids and it's a very positive message

to those who open that site up. All right. True law notes. I am I guess before I go through any of these, does anybody have any specific questions on the true law notes? >> I do email you. >> Okay. >> Fair enough. That sounds good. Uh just a a quick comment on our GSRP uh great start readiness program that's part of early childhood program. uh we do get we do receive grants for that and it's a per pupil and it really totals to around $461,000 that comes towards our early childhood program which is obviously very helpful and then we have the tuition based. So any other questions >> and I'll wait for your email. Thank you. >> And then Oh, that >> Yeah, we'll get to that. Yeah. >> All right. Great. Any questions for

Jack? >> All right. >> If if they pop up, uh please give me a call and I'll try to walk you through the best I can and if I can't find an answer. If I don't have the answer, I'll make sure I get it for you. >> Uh one more quick point. Sorry. Uh the competitive bid threshold is now at 31,321. Uh when we're out bidding work, uh that makes it a little bit easier, but there is still a purchasing process we follow. Just helps us not to have to do formal formal bids. Uh okay, that's all I have. >> Finance committee report. >> Yeah, thank you. Uh not too much to report um in the spirit of Jeff's point that we have a lot to get through today. Uh the main discussions from our

uh finance committee meeting last week were centered around um the updates uh to our budget for the year coming out of the sort of finalization or near finalization of the state funding. I if you guys recall a couple of meetings ago, we were a little concerned about how the state budget was going to come out. things like as we said last time things are mostly positive and Heather is working on sort of refreshing our budget with what we now know the numbers to be. We don't have final numbers there but based on what we have in the budget we think our end of the year fund balance is going to land somewhere around 33%. >> Mhm. >> Um and that is to be amended to be clear. We're waiting for sort of final tieout numbers

but relative to some of the potentially bad scenarios we were looking at that's a that's a good outcome for us. Uh the state funds are down from where they uh were, but it's like 100 grandish, so it's not so bad. Um uh we will uh eat into our fund balance still this year as a result. We knew we would. Uh but I think we were hoping to have some numbers from Heather on that for this, but it sounds like we'll do that next time to sort of look. >> We'll have a more extensive report in December. >> Yeah, here's how it kind of looks now that we've got there was so much uncertainty around some of those numbers. So we'll we'll finish that up. We also spoke about the the remaining bond funds. You guys

have the bond fund worksheets here at your table. And you see the little summary in the lower right hand corner. So in series two uh 2024 series 2, this is the the large amount of money we have remaining. There's just over 2 million uh unspent on on account. Um most of that is spoken for with planned projects and there's a remaining balance of just over $400,000. uh that is the portion of money that we at all planned and agreed to spend on the uh or a lot of which we plan to spend on the storage building concept that we talked about uh in the spring but that we didn't get to during the summertime. So um we spoke about sort of getting the wheels turning again on finishing out some of the projects that are

still hanging around related to that and other decision points on these items to be completed. Um some of them are scheduled like uh flooring or a large portion of the flooring anyway for the high school. Uh and some of them have yet to be kind of decided like uh we need to make a firm plan for the lighting upgrades for example. Um so we spoke about that and I think part of that is what Jeff mentioned that we want the longrange planning to get back together and um start to help make some of those decisions basically. Uh and that's essentially it I think. So >> great. Any questions for Brian? Finance committee. All right. Technology report. >> I don't have very much. Just had updating the website a little bit especially the board page felt

like it was a lot of stuff going different directions. So tried to segregate it out. Let me know if you guys see anything that isn't quite right or any changes. We are having our monthly AI staff tech meeting this Tuesday and Thursday. Um I feel like I'm getting a better understanding of the direction that we need to go. So if anything I can say myself benefiting from the situation and um hopefully that gives a better idea of the direction. >> Great. Thank you. Any questions for Mike? All right. Thanks, Mike. >> Uh, Neiola, >> our Neola policy update is volume 40, uh, number one. I sent that, uh, information the packet. I'm just going to go through this quickly. This is considered our our first read and Amy and Wes are on that committee and

if we need to pull that committee back together and then come to the December meeting to make these final approvals. So, I'm going to go very quickly and um spot overview and once again if you have questions on anything, take a note and give me a call. That would be the most efficient way to do this. So, this was set up into two different sections. There was the regular Niola updates and then there was a se separate update on um non-discrimination oops um equal employment and anti-har anti-harassment. And I'll get into that. It's really the easier part of this because a lot of it was just language and consolidating some things that I'll get to. So, policy 2210, it talks about uh county manual and instructional time. That's uh and the revised ones are very

easy. Uh the sec 2266. Uh the main the main part of that is language change because the office of civil rights office it's it was in Neiola was referenced to Cleveland. that office is now closed and it's now in Washington DC. So, we had to do some address changes. The um language for 2412 that has to do with homebound instruction diagnosis and that has to be submitted uh to be considered homebound by an MD or a DO doctor to make sure that is correct. 4162 that has to do with a little bit of revision on who a person would have to go through on a return to work especially if it was a substance abuse issue. 5120 uh it talks about uh a school building within a school building which doesn't affect us as an

example. Um let's say this was a Traverse City conversation and they have multiple elementary schools. It has to do with how you can determine which elementary school you go to. Since we have two buildings, ours is very easy. The uh 5120 uh excuse me 5460 uh this has to do with a FASA good faith effort uh participate in the universal fastest challenge and our school district our school did do that and we did very well. Uh so we have a number of uh families and students uh participating in that. 551701 uh includes um some changes not changes but more definition to anti-bullying policy for an example that what's the differentiation bullying versus harassment and there's a whole about a through F that talks about bullying or harassment and there's some definitions because all issues are

not always bullying some are harassment sometimes kids just aren't nice to one another but it's always not necessarily bullying so that defines that a little bit better. Uh policy 75402 uh talks about district web content especially for those um that need to access the uh content to uh with a disability and Mike's been working uh trying to put that in place and has a some information there. Uh policy 7541 is we're going to resend that policy simply because it was taken out and dumped into policy 8300. 8300 is language to include a continuity and organizational plan regarding cyber security safeguards. Uh that's obviously been a concern and that's puts a little more meat to that process. Then 8305 is more security safeguards for cyber security uh especially if there was a breach and the bottom

line is if we ever kept any notice of that we automatically call our insurance company and our lawyers and we let them we don't respond. We let them take it from there. Uh section two, this is the non-discrimination equal employment. Remember in our policies, 1400s are administration, 3100s are professional teachers, and 4,000s are support staff. If you ever have trouble sleeping and you want to read policy, um a lot, as I said earlier, a lot of this change has to do with change in the O OCR offices and just consolidating some information. uh policies. Note I put 1422, 3122, 41-22. They are all the same policy. They just go to different groups of people. Uh this was a language u cleanup, nothing major. Uh the next one there was a delete and rescend and uh

a second delete and rescend. It was some technocor technical corrections. So what this essentially did is it took about eight policies and combined them into three uh to clean it up. So there wasn't so much information. So if there is any specifics here and you would like more information and Amy, I'll talk with you later. We want to pull the group together and go through them with more detail. >> Okay. >> But this would be considered our first read >> and then we'll go from there. >> Questions >> through the website. People can go into the policies and >> read them in more detail. >> Yep. >> Okay. Any questions on that? clear as mine. >> Some of them are and some of them are pretty easy. So, >> all right. Uh, schoolboard workshop dates.

>> Turn that one over to you. >> Okay. Um, so we are penciling in um per the calendar email December 1st um time to be determined, but it's probably going to be a a little bit longer meeting like maybe a 5 to 8ish or we'll see. We'll figure out schedules for people, but we'll aim for December 1st. >> Is that going to be here? >> Yeah. Well, I'll ask. We'll figure out where to see where what space is available. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Is that more consolidated to the board? I'm I believe. >> Yeah. >> Okay. That was that was more of a question for me at Nan. >> Yeah. Yeah. That'll just be board members. >> Okay. >> All right. Um and strategic plan priority goals update. >> All right. Um on

page 20 in your packet um has the goals, the priority goals. And I was just going to walk through these to kind of let you >> in front of you >> or they're in front of you. Excuse me. Where's my There it is. So you can use all they're easy to look at. So this was uh student focused learning. This was the first area that we've been working on diligently. Uh we have a very active curriculum committee at the elementary school. Uh they've been working with CQLA and math expressions and along with some reading strategies. The middle high school uh been spending time looking at curriculum and we'll we'll have more of that conversation especially after the first of the year as we'll already start planning for the 26 27 school year. Uh we meet

monthly with Northwest Ed. They're in our MYKIP meetings and our next one is Wednesday. Uh that is all designed to talk about curriculum structures uh curriculum review adoption and the processes put in place and we're working to finetune that a little bit better as one of our goals. Uh as Mike mentioned, we have monthly AI discussion groups um from both uh looking at from the teacher perspective. We want to start having some conversations about students perspective and Mike's had done a really nice job with some tools, but we have to have more conversation with staff as far as the big picture and I we're all learning as we go and believe it or not, um I know for some this feels like it's a slow process, but when Mike has talked with his tech group,

uh we're actually moving along better than most. So, we're trying to get going with it, but it is it is difficult. As far as a district, our teacher clarity uh work for guidance and instruction alignment and classroom methodology. That was a big part of the middle school high school PD uh last Mon Tuesday and and we this is what we do all day is work on that process. Uh um I think it's really important that this is this isn't like done in isolation. This is a flow of a number of activities from instruction, assessment, curriculum, and from formal instruction. I'm sorry, from formal and informal observations and lots of conversation with staff. So, it's kind of hard to exactly define, but I think we're doing a really good job at this point um meeting uh

the goals of our plan. Uh culture of unity and well-being. That's the second major part. Um >> can I interrupt for a minute? >> Yeah, sure. One question I have and I should have thought of it when Mike was talking tech too. In addition to discussions with staff and and shared learning about what's working in the classroom with AI and then new tools is there discussion with students to kind of say what how is AI impacting their learning or their >> two parts to it. Part one is we want the staff to have discussions in all their classes. But um I just talked to the about incorporating students into the Tuesday Thursday meeting kind of get a student perspective bring them in and hear what they have to say. >> Oh, that's great. We also

want to bring in some kids that um graduated in college and kind of share their AI experiences with us as far as what they're seeing there kind of a leader in that people that are state. >> Great. Thank you. >> Okay, that's fine. Uh the culture of unity and well-being. Um as you know, all of our handbooks are in place. Um, our physical and emotional safety, that's always our priority. Um, we're working really hard with those operational guidelines. We've added some support at the middle high school to help with that consistent communication with parents and staff. Uh, both buildings have completed social emotional learning surveys to gather data on the on the building cultures, uh, feedback. Uh, the data also track behaviors and help us review any major areas of concern. And this would be

a good conversation at a schoolboard workshop hopefully after the first of the year with some more data. >> Okay. >> Uh the empowered passion educators for staff. Um following this page, which I'm not going to go through all completely, I'll have you go through that on your own and feel free to give me a call back. The next four pages I believe after this page has to do with our uh collaborative work with Brad Rey and Chris Baker Donan and the association is how to set up um our observation processes and our observation plus evaluation. So they're they're highly involved with that with that work with us. Um all of our support staff uh now have job descriptions and responsibilities. Uh, I presented that to uh the the people who such as Ann and Matt

and Frank and Jenna um who they oversee. They read through the job descriptions, gave me some suggestions, and then they met with all of their people that they oversee to read the job descriptions and make sure they were very clear in what their responsibilities were. And that's been completed. >> Jeeoff, >> yes, >> thanks for that work for Ann and Matt and you. I mean, I that was a big desire, I think, from a lot of staff. That's awesome. >> It was really helpful and I'm I'm glad it's I'm glad it's done, but I think it's a great tool to use whenever we well, one for evaluation purposes, but more importantly, when we're out looking and shopping for new staff, we know exactly what we're looking for. >> Awesome. >> Yeah. Thanks, Scott. Appreciate that.

Uh the principles also have created an onschedule off-schedule list of teaching staff. This came out u during the summer in our conversations. Um there's part of the staff are on that schedule to be formally observed and evaluated while the others still receive observations and conversations and feedback. Um, but we put that in place on purpose so we could It's very difficult having done this to have 30 plus staff that you needed to get through in a year. It's and I think it this is going to be more meaningful I believe and I think it's going to be better for everybody including my two very busy principles and it puts some more light on we're going to talk to six seven eight people this year and we'll dive in deeper with another seven eight next year

and so forth. So >> So that worked out to it got organized to split it because >> Yep. >> Okay. >> Yep. It's up. >> So it wasn't like everybody who had three years of exceptional and that's what is off the >> No, that's what we did with um the the association too is they helped us sort through that. >> Okay. >> From the aspect of >> they understood that we wanted to split that out. >> Yeah. >> So we could do so just more meaningful. >> And how did that go with rolling out to the people that are going to be observed? They they got notified in time and everything and everything worked out. That's great because that's a a lot of moving pieces there you guys are figuring out. Yeah, they man they

have done a really nice job getting that set up and then moving through and and once again if you're not on schedule that doesn't mean you just get to coast. There's still lots of conversations and dropins and how's it going and so forth. The formality is not for everybody this time. >> So about how many get are going to get evaluated in each building? Uh >> that's Matt Nan's question. Uh >> sorry I don't mean to take And while they're looking, keep in mind um all of us um especially men and they have some support staff as an example and has some classroom aids. Matt has some classroom maids. So it's not just teachers, right? And though that group does have conversation every year. They're not on off schedule. They have that every year. >>

Wow. >> Okay. That's a lot more manageable, isn't it? >> Yeah. >> That's good. I think, you know, better quality than quantity. >> Well, the nice part I the and you were in those conversations with Scott and I, they recognize that that if we're going to put some substance and have good quality conversations, it's got to be manageable. >> Cool. >> So, that was nice. Thanks for doing that. >> Great. Yeah. Thank you. Um thinking uh >> fe student feedback. >> Yeah the student Thank you. I was draw drew a blank for a second. One of the other areas we're working on how do we get some student feedback and we already know that some teachers do that. uh we're going to try to encourage um set up a system where everybody takes that as

not an evaluative piece of that. It's for their own self-reflection and growth as a as a teacher. And we have a number of people who do that already. All right, that's a lot. And then the teacher observation and evaluation process follows what I had just talked about and I'm happy to take an email or answer those questions at another time as well. Any questions? Okay, great. Thank you. That's a lot. That's great progress. This is really helpful, too, to be matching it up to what at least for me to be looking at what's going on as we're rolling through the year. >> Well, as I said, it's it's not a check system. It's a flu and everything kind of runs together, so to speak. So, we're just trying to keep it channeled and keep our

conversations with our MYIP group on a monthly basis. And where are we at? What do we need to do next? >> Yeah. Um, district projects and planning update. >> All right. This is pretty quick. Um, the middle school, high school, I mentioned, those are completed. Our our our money back from the Benzy District Legal Health Department was very, very wonderful. Um, I think both Amy and I were wondering where that would land and it was great to receive those funds as promised. Parking lot, I've mentioned the track entrance is completed. The old school sign is now gone. Um, yay. Um, the high school project is underway with the, uh, high, excuse me, carpet and furniture early childhood program. We're continuing to really work diligently with that. Had some really good conversation with Jeff Hulk from

GMBB and Anne Waltney was there, Amber Wilson, and that's another long range planning uh, conversation. As far as long range planning, some of the things I've listed, and this is not inclusive by any means, I don't believe, but these are kind of the areas we keep focusing on. At least that's my impression. The site and facilities plan, I think that's going to become really important. And I know one of the questions was who could we find to do kind of a bird's eye view and where you at and what are your options on this site for a variety of reasons. This site doesn't have a lot of space. High school site has a little more space. So, what do we want to do with that? So, we're working on that as well. early childhood project

um is still there which goes along with the site planning a maintenance bus garage same thing and then our Hall Street property for housing uh that email came back so that is still on the table to continue those conversations and then Brian mentioned some of our next projects and one of those areas as we go down the road no timetable who knows when but there will be a point um that we'll want to look at most likely renewing the bond we're on. Uh depending on what the next projects are, that's been a really good um tool for us. Um I'm exciting excited for Brethren Calvin Norman Dixon. They uh just put a bond out and it passed. Um, and they were excited because that bond is an early childhood center and a playground and some

additional space and and they was I'm very excited for them and Amber and I are going to and Ann, of course, we're going to reach out to that superintendent and kind of have some really good dialogue. We've seen what they've done with the planning. It it's it it's a really good starting point, I think, for us. >> Jeeoff, just a couple things to add to that list and also question that I have is um >> Sure. We had those guys that were doing that audit and I don't feel like we've gotten the results of that, >> the train audit. >> Yeah. >> No, I I have talked with them. I haven't got to where they needed to be and I want to bring that up, but our long range plan. >> That's what I mean.

That's that's what I want. I want to add I'm just giving you things to add to to that to that. >> Yeah, that that was on my list, just not here. >> Cool. The second thing is um the property and we had talked about and part of the issue I think I already told you guys is that um >> our sort of ally in that was the Benzy Leeloff Forester and she has taken a different job and I haven't heard yet if she's been replaced. There's a new Benzy Forester. So we need to find that out. I can send another followup but I've sent I've sent a couple emails. So >> yeah. Yeah. These are what you mentioned were not off the list because of non-importance. It was just these are kind of things that

keep bubbling up. Cool. So, any other questions? And then following this page, uh, Brian referenced already at your table is 2022 capital project bond series 1 that will close out. And then Brian referenced the 2024 series 2. Um, it still has uh revenue available, which is great. And um, we'll continue working that through with the long range planning committee and then coming back to the board with suggestions. Great. Any questions on district projects and planning? All right. Ann, elementary school. >> Um, so I provided my report to you. Um, we had our fall data days and they were very successful. Um, we met with grades one through five to talk about our fall data and then work on intervention groups including extension groups. Um, and huge thanks to Amy Torak and the two Tammies on

her team um, for all of the work that they did to prepare for that. That's really a powerful uh, week. It's exhausting. Um, but there's so much good work that goes into planning what to do for students to try to help bridge those gaps. Um, we had between 93 and 94% attendance for uh, parent teacher conferences. We actually followed up with one conference this afternoon. So the teachers have to work really hard to to try to meet with all of the uh parents. Um we had our October child study team meeting. Um we do this once a month. We invite in our ISD staff and they commit to a day of helping us to problem solve for students. And so we met on seven students. Again, that's about a half hour per student and really

just working to see what we can do to help them be more successful. our professional learning day. We did not go to Traverse City. We stayed here and we did a reboot of the teacher clarity. Last year, if you remember, we were very involved in our 35J grant and our literacy essentials. And so this year, we've gone back to the teacher clarity and we started that, but we also started our math essentials for elementary. And so, um, that was very, uh, interesting to start something new there. Um, I did a day of walkthroughs with Samantha Toreé, who's our math consultant from the ISD, and we went in to use practice using a new tool the ISD is developing to go in and look and see if you're seeing the essential things that you need for

our math curriculum. And I always learn when I'm with her because um, she just knows the curriculum inside and out and she really is helpful to me um, as an observer. We had some local field trips in October and we began the evaluation process and that starts with beginning of year meetings with all staff who are on and off schedule. Um, and then we had the uh growth plans that were due to us by the 1st of November as well as the sterning student learning objectives. And that really has to do with teachers choosing something that they want to work on for the whole year. Um, and what they do with their pre-data and then hopefully in their post data they see a lot of growth and they have to think about what strategies that

they want to use as they go through that. It's a really good process. Um, and the first formals are scheduled. I have my first formal on Wednesday. Um, and I will be pre-conferencing with all of the teachers and then postconferencing with them. And I'll be starting with all of the on cycle teachers. And one of the things that's really kind of cool related to our I'm going to go back to the top to the data days is we have our extension groups and our fifth grade extension group is taking on kind of an interesting project where they are interested in composting and raised beds and building some batous and birdhouses. And so they're doing a lot of studying and surveying right now about how much waste do we create and how do we work on

composting that. And if you drive past Leland, you'll notice that we have brand new beautiful gates that are going up in the courtyard. And that's going to be where we have our student garden and where we have some other projects that they will be working on in addition to our amazing flower ladies who keep everything looking beautiful back there. If you notice, there's always something in blue. Um, and they do a really nice job with that. So, um, that's going to be a new project and that's the result of that extension based on student interest and student voice. And, um, so I'm very excited about where we're headed with that. And that's being headed up with volunteers who are going, okay, we've got to do some work here. We've got to figure this out. And

when we get closer to spring, we'll look at how we build those raised beds and then look at what kinds of plants we want to put in there. They've expressed wanting to do some vegetables, but also pollinators, some native plants. And so stay tuned because it should be an interesting work in progress. So um then I gave you guys the um color copies of the alpaca surveys. So on the front where you have the two surveys. These were the October surveys and the teachers, staff members, anybody who works here just picks up their phone, they follow a link and they go and they just choose the words that reflect how they're feeling. And so then the survey shows on um my dashboard, Matt's dashboard, where the things that you see the most are the bigger

dots, the greener they are, the more positive they are, the darker they are, the the more red color they are. Those are kind of the negative feelings. And you know, if you notice that we had about 74% positive in October um for the elementary, 63 uh percent in the high school, and this could change based on a day. Somebody might go back in and change their idea uh based on the the day they're having, but we're doing lots of things to try to make it um exciting and fun to come to work. So, our culture committees are doing things in both committees or both buildings. We have a sunshine committee, they have a culture committee. Um, but we do a lot that involves food because people like food um and games and and things like

that. So, um you can see there are some of the things that we've done and that's across both buildings. And then you can see on the back this was a copy of the national. So this is all of the people using alpaca. >> And so we're kind of like in the same area as most of them in terms of how they are um feeling. 74% positivity overall in about 21,000 recipients. So um just interesting and we can keep you updated each month um as you go. the alpaca bags. People really like those. Um and we draw tickets and do giveaways and um that's really fun. Um and we played a pumpkin game here and we had a lot of fun with that. So, we're working really hard to try to make this a fun place

to come to work. >> Great. >> Yeah. And I I'm assuming like the trending date is what's going to be the most >> relevant, you know, than any point in time. Over time, what do we see as consistencies, negative and positive? >> Right? And then in the survey, does it give an opportunity for people to put in ideas of like how would you move from pink to green, you know? Okay. >> And you know, some people always chose choose more food, but some people say, you know, some of the comments were things like um you know, my my feelings are more related to my outside life than my inside life. >> Okay? and you know things like that. I had someone who thanked me for getting this started and giving people a voice in that

way. So um it's been I think it's been accepted positively at least especially in my >> what was your response percentage? >> Um I'd have to log back in. Let me see. >> I mean 80s 90s. >> Yes, it was high. Okay. >> It was a high number of responses. It wasn't like four. >> Okay. Um, I sent out the November one today on a Monday because I'm brave and I had already gotten 13 responses by, you know, I sent it out at like four o'clock. >> Okay. >> And I'd already gotten 13 responses. So, it really is a really quick dip. Um, and so people can put in, you know, what do I need more of? And generally it's food. But >> well, and if if there's I mean, I don't want to speak

for everybody, but you know, I'm sure as a board we'd love to know if there's things that we could be doing to support people feeling valued and appreciated. And >> I I will say >> what they need in the classroom. >> The the you know, starting the year with a stocked lounge, that really was a wonderful just coming back and feeling like, you know, that emotional eating part of our lives was was there. Um but also um the culture committee at MAPS uh building, they stocked our lounge one day >> with treats, which was also really nice. So um you know, the more that we can collaborate too, we're we're four blocks away from each other, but we don't have a lot of contact with each other on a regular um basis. And so, you

know, if we can support each other in in some fun ways, that would be great. >> That's awesome. Thanks for doing that. I do. I think it's a great thing just as a tool to see where the feedback and and where the trends go. >> Any questions for Ann? >> Sorry, guys. That was really long. >> No, it was great. >> Thank you. >> All right, Matt. >> So, good. >> High school middle school principal's report um also was submitted early, so many of you have already had a chance. A couple of highlights in there. of course uh where our testing and then uh we're in the middle of our child study u meetings uh they've been happening over the last three weeks and they will continue the next three uh and then our data

review committees also with quarter 1 data including grades uh behaviors attendance and then all things NWA and the insight which is the old uh cell web renamed and for us we also have a a third assessment called the SSIS that we utilize as well. Um couple couple uh points of interest that you'll see on the list of information. There's everything in there from uh you know reference to conferences to our where we went for RSDD. Uh but you did I want you to see that our seniors attended Miss Roth and Miss Chisum took our seniors to this is the second year they've had it at Crystal Mountain but the career expo was great good really good function for our uh seniors to be part of Benzy seniors were also there. Uh we always get complimented

on our kids and how professional they are and um kids had you know resumes, kids had, you know, opportunity to talk to some people. Um and then we do our own version of that in the spring when we do our interview practices and some other things. So it was pretty good. This was more of an expo, but we had a few kids that were, you know, playing to see for jobs, which is awesome. Um our eighth graders head to Crew Tech Center this week. Um they'll be headed there on Thursday, and that's always a great trip. their their first opportunity all the eighth graders to see um what Tech's all about and they get a chance to get into like three programs kind of peak their heads in there. Then we send them back as

sophomores uh to have a chance to to go through and do it and um you know trying to plant the seeds early if that's a you know option for them in their high school years. Um you see the senior trip information right now uh it's our biggest turnout or sign up that we've had which is uh just amazing. um community has been amazing with the senior raffle and uh so we're really pleased that uh the progress there. We always have a few students drop for different reasons, but um to to capture that many of our seniors is just really incredible at this point. So really excited about that. Um last year we took 26 and we have 37 signed up right now. So you see our ERW update is on that list as well. Um

give a shout out to the band, fifth and sixth grade band. They did their Halloween concert uh a week ago on Thursday which was just a really a fun uh concert number one to see where the fifth graders are at now and then hear the sixth graders play and and kind of get that feel like wow this is where those kids were just a year ago and uh all the progress that they make. So last year we had the choir as part of that and we look forward to doing that in the future. We just don't have the numbers for it this year. Uh you see the transition as Jeff mentioned about the SRO. Um see the pantry surveys and communication. We're doing a lot of that right now with regards to trying to get

the word out as far as people that need help, especially if uh they've been affected by any um government shutdown stuff, especially with SNAP benefits. Um and then um just trying to offer some uh help for Thanksgiving as well as we approach the holiday season. You see some more upcoming events on the bottom. Our drama presentation is in two weeks. Um you see Whistle Stop is the title of the play. It's not a musical in the fall. It's a play in the fall and a musical in the spring. Um you see the dates that are listed there and the show times. Uh we have a big senior uh uh financial aid meeting uh on Wednesday that's offered to any of our senior parents. Uh our 10th graders tomorrow, they're headed to CMU for a college

visit. We're packing them on the bus and taking them down. Um we we'll have almost all of our juniors or excuse me, sophomores um go on that trip and then we'll probably be at Grand Valley also this year. We'll take a second trip as well. Um and maybe hope it's it's hard to say if we can depending on what we can fit in. So, we're trying to look at uh different experiences and exposure for our kids uh in in nth 10th, 11th grade uh before they uh get into their senior year. Uh tomorrow is our big Veterans Day breakfast at the high school. Uh shout out to Emily Stevenson and the NHS. They put that on every year and it's it's a really nice event. Um and you know, I hope we do with the

weather, but we've had a lot of veterans in the past that have come and and uh had a chance to be honored and it's been great. Uh and then you see we're also hosting Malibberry just like we do every year. That's a big undertaking. That's uh the Saturday of uh Thanksgiving weekend. So, and that's it for now. >> Matt, just curious and maybe it's not worth doing, but I would be curious to know like with the eighth graders and then again with the 10th graders when they go to Career Tech, >> do we do like a little survey with them that says what caught your interest? You know, what would you like to do? And then if they don't end up doing the career tech like why did their interest change or was it the

distance or you know understanding what the hurdles are and maybe seeing if we can offer some things here if it's transportation I don't know. >> Yeah I was going to say more or less the same thing. So they go in eighth grade for a full day and they go again in 10th grade. >> It's just a couple hours like >> couple hours in eighth grade and then they go again in 10th grade. >> Yeah. Um, so I think I've told you guys before, but I serve on the advisory board for the writers portion of CTC and I was just there last week actually and that was one of the big questions was like um recruitment and was about and like we're talking about um because it's so fast is what I've heard when they get

up there and it's hard to like stand out because there are so many different programs up there but also about um if the distance is an issue and you know so >> yeah and something like writing you'd think we could zoom >> yeah well and one of the really cool things about the writing program that we heard because there were two alumni there who are now going to NMC and they're um both working on they have like I don't know six or eight of the students who work on their on the student paper at NMC are actually from that writer's program and the two two of them were there and they were saying how um it's actually interesting in their in their normal NMC classes. They've noticed that there isn't as much there aren't as

many students who are good at constructive feedback, both giving it and also receiving it. And part of that is they think that the the way that that classroom works because there's so much feedback that's always given in that writing class and just like how and it was just really interesting I guess to hear about that process and about how they felt like their peers were not as good at that as they were because they had had this really controlled environment where it really felt safe and I just thought that that was an interesting part of that as well. So yeah, it just be nice to know what what the kids are interested in, what hurdles are, and maybe with especially with eighth grade if that could tie into maybe some of our afterchool enrichment if

we find out, hey, a whole bunch of kids are interested in automotive. Can we do how to change your own oil or something, you know? I don't know. Just a thought. Sure. >> It's all great. And I I can ask Patty if they do anything uh as an exit, you know, ticket or survey for this visit that they'll have Thursday. when they're 10th graders, they actually they have to pick programs to visit like so they go so this Thursday they get to see the whole place and kind of tour kick their heads in and and go around and as 10th graders they'll actually visit specific programs that they they want to see. But that's that'll be easy to ask and get some feedback on. That's awesome. >> And we've invited them as well, like their

assistant principal plus their um some of their uh counselors to come down and actually panel our kids like to sit in front of our they would like as juniors or sophomores, excuse me, to to say, "Hey, you know, you if you have questions now, we're here. We'll answer any questions you have, any interest that you have just because it's always hard because you could even if when you go see three programs, you don't know what boy I wish I would have, you know, saw three different ones, but right, but at least um have a chance to do some Q&A. And so in the past, they've been willing to come down and, you know, get in front of our kids. >> That was something that the writer um you know, the person the teacher in that

class was talking about too was potentially going and visiting like taking former students and current students and visiting schools. And I thought that was a good idea. No. >> Yeah. >> Cool. >> Good. >> Matt, is that the Are we the only school? >> Thank you, >> Matt. Are we the only school that's going at this particular time? >> Yeah, it's a good that's a good question. I don't know how many. I mean, they have a they block off a number of days where they do this. Same thing with the sophomores and uh like there'll there'll be other schools there while we're there, you know, just because the way they have it set up, they they they're expecting people to be popping in. And they usually break them up into different groups and then uh

like you just spread out throughout the building and so that way you know they're intermittent. You know we spend five minutes probably in each classroom maybe a little longer and then go on to the next one. So but there's other schools there while we're there. >> Can you remind me Matt how many slots do they give us for our kids? >> Well so they they don't say they have a cut off. I mean they try to say at least one in every program. I mean somes we'll have 14. Our average is anywhere from 10 to 14 kids going. Okay. So, like on average, but um they tell us we don't have a cut off, but sometimes we can't get as many in that we'd like to. That's my way of being really politically correct. >>

Would you agree with that, Miss Bley? Thank you. >> Great. Any other questions for Matt? All right. And then do you want to introduce Griffin or did Griffin you want to introduce >> Griffin? Um welcome. Uh known Griffin for quite a while. same in many different uh areas at school. Uh the interview process went well. Griffin did a really nice job. Uh he stopped in today and said I have some questions and it was wonderful and I invite him back to do that um to sit and visit with me and say what's coming up next. So Griffin was not sure if Belly Bella was going to be here tonight. So you are both here. Um and Bella, I am going to say up front that when you uh do your report, you are welcome to

head. >> Yeah. Bella had surgery, right? >> Bella's had a very long day and I know that one of the reasons she is here is that that's Bella. She's very committed, but also in support of Griffin because this was his first day with us. So, we'll let you lead. I think that might be easier. >> All right. Um, we have a right now we're kind of chilling right now at the high school because our fall sports are all done, but we're starting winter sports up uh this week and next week. So, that'll be fun with basketball and wrestling. Um, like Stap said, uh, seniors went to the job expo at Crystal Mountain. That was a really cool experience just to talk to the people there and hear about their jobs. I met some people that

I didn't know the job like that was a job. It was cool. Um, Kilwins was there talking about chocolate. I was like, "Wow, that's cool. They make really good chocolate if you don't stop." Um, also in life skills, they've had quite a few speakers come in talking about their jobs. So, uh, Zim does a good job of getting us to be more well-rounded in that area. Um, Patty's come in quite a bit to talk about Common App and FASA and help us out with that. Um, the end of quarter one was last week. Yes. So, we're we're rolling. Um, we're getting there. And oh, uh, for Halloween, we did like students donated a dollar. this student council did this. Um students donated a dollar to dress up and then student council matched that and donating

that to the Grand Travers Land Conservancy. Um so just little fun thing and yeah handed out candy. >> That's cool. >> And you guys did NHS. Did you guys do the haunted hallway or >> Oh yes. Oh my gosh. How how could I forget about that? Yeah, that was fun. >> Cool. >> I think >> No tears. >> Uh >> I was afraid of that. >> Just just a few just a few. I I remember this well. It's like, "Oh boy, I don't think you don't want to go in there." >> Did you hear good feedback? >> Um, mostly. I only had a couple traumatized commands. >> They were like, "We tried our best." >> I think I think I was working at my desk and I kept hearing boom boom and then screaming and

I was like, I have got to leave. That was fun. >> Uh, good evening. I want to say a quick thanks to Bella for showing up, not leaving me empty-handed. And I want to say thanks to you all for having me here. I'm really excited to be here and uh represent the students. Uh, so a few more things we did. Uh, during October, the physics uh, class had a field trip to the Soolocks. I'm on the physics class. It was really fun. Went to the Soolocks. It was great trip. uh blood drive. NHS had their blood drive on the 15th of October. It was successful. No one died. No one looks like a raisin. >> Lives were saved. >> Yeah. >> Uh another quick note is we took PSAT tests during uh about mid-occtober. Those

came out recently, started November. I think it went very well. Um a few things coming up. Stapes talked about most of these. We have the Thursday field trip, eighth grade at the CTC. Veterans breakfast is tomorrow, as is the CMU trip. I will be going to CMU. I'm very excited. Uh I know a lot of people are a lot of people are excited just to have the day off from school, but um yeah, and then veterans breakfast. I have talked with a few friends who are in NHS who are going to be there. I won't be there because I'll be at CMU, but they're excited to serve the veterans. Excited to do that. >> Um not much else to say. Great. Any questions for our student reps? >> Can I ask? >> You're in 10th

grade. >> I'm 11th grade. >> You're in 11th grade. Okay. >> And can I ask what interested you in joining the board? >> Um, I'm very interested in representing people. Um, I have a lot of practice representing from model UN is an elective class I take >> and I have a lot of practice representing people. So, I'm very interested in doing the best I can to represent students. I think it's very important they be represented properly and also feel I'm well qualified to do it. >> Great. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Any other questions? >> Great. Well, thank you guys. Um All right. And we are going to move into business. And I mean Matt, I know you've got a the uh football banquet, too. So it whatever you guys need to do is

is good. Um okay. So the first item on business on the business agenda 8.1 approval of kitchen staff hire. >> Thank you. Um this was due to a internal person moving to a different position in the district and we posted the position u actually a couple times and working with Jenna Knobser. Um the position was also posted internally with no takers and so we went outside and we came up with and we're recommending candidate Nick Spencer. Uh he's been with us for a month probably. Um, and it's been a really good uh way to do that from the aspect one, we just had to do it this way, but secondly, um, it really got him feeling how it goes and answer a lot of questions and I think he's really comfortable and I I know

he works well with kids. So, I think it's a it's going to be a good re a good hire. Um, so it's the recommendation of the superintendent and Jenna NSer as a uh to as a full-time kitchen employee uh pending all background checks are approved to hire excuse me um Nick Spencer as a full-time kitchen employee. >> I'll make that motion. >> Brian seconded. Any discussion? I think it is great. I'm glad to hear that he's been working here for a month because I was kind of looking at the resume going there's been a lot of jobs in a short period of time, but it it's nice that he's >> knows that this is something he wants to do. That's great. >> Well, we were we were very transparent asking him that question and he

was ready to settle. So, and not settle for the job, but settle into one and get comfortable. Andy might be able to help do some of the audio stuff over at the >> for the plays. >> He very well may. Right now we're getting him used to doing this. >> He shows up. It's an early morning job. He shows up. So that's great. >> Oh, that's great. Okay, so we have a motion and a second. Any other discussion? All those in favor? I. >> Any opposed? Great. Well, we'll welcome Nick. >> All right. Thank you. I'll let him maybe Anna will let him know that in the morning. That'd be awesome. Thank you. The second item, uh 8.2, as I mentioned earlier, closing out the 2022 bond series one. Um talking with Heather, we need

to do that and zero that out for auditing purposes and so forth. And it's going to be a lot easier to work out of one series instead of two. Um so the recommendation is to close out the 2022 bond series 1 fund. >> I'll make a motion. I'll second. >> Okay. So, Brian and then Scott seconded. Any discussion? All those in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? >> Great. All right. Then 8.3. Um >> I'll let you take it from here. >> Yeah. Yeah. So, um, everybody received Jeff's announcement that at the end of this school year, he plans to retire after 40 years of service. Um, and I promised I wouldn't go into per his I had a much longer speech that he has forbidden me from. >> I I have eight I I

am privileged to be here eight at least eight more months. So, I still have we still have a lot to do together. Thank you. >> Um, >> in other words, you get to give that speech later, Amy. I just save it forever. >> Put it on the shelf and you get to give it later. >> I'll leave that up to her. >> That's what I heard Jeff say. >> Yes. >> What I really said is we have a lot to do yet. I'm excited to do that. >> You'll get to add on to that list. Right. Exactly. The accolades of the year. Um, so with that letter, um, I would just like to say thanks to Jeff because I know that it's hard to make a formal announcement to retire from a place that you've

given your life to for the past 40 years. Um, but you put us in a better position to start a search and I really appreciate that. >> You are more than welcome. Thank you. Um, and unfortunately what I'd like to do is ask for a motion to appro approve Jeff's letter of resignation >> of retirement. Sorry, retirement. Oh my gosh. >> I so move >> Megan in a second. >> We have to procedural. >> I Well, right. I just I looked it up and it said that you should do a you know a board vote to accept the letter of retirement. I don't know. I'm just dotting eyes, crossing tees. >> Aubrey, will I I do know this. Um it will be important to make sure this is in the minutes, which it will be.

>> I was going to say formality of the >> Yeah. >> So moved. >> Yes. >> Again. >> All right. Second. Any discussion? >> Second. >> All right. >> I'm sorry. >> You're you're good. All those in favor? >> No. No discussion beyond just everybody gets to say thanks to Jen at some point. >> Yes. Now is now the time for >> Yes. But not making a big deal out of it. >> Without making it. >> Thanks a lot. >> It it feels either it's an resignation or obituary. I'm not sure. >> So, >> hey, I think >> I'm just >> I feel much better than I did last week working through this. So, I appreciate everyone's support. It's a cherry on top of a stupendous career and one that is leaving a huge legacy

and big shoes to fill. >> So, >> don't worry, Jeff. You'll be busier next year. >> Yeah, >> that's what people keep saying. >> And I don't know if I'm over for mal whatever, but all is in favor. >> All is opposed. I mean, emotionally >> notwithstanding >> um 8.4 for approval of the search firm >> 8.3. >> Well, technically I just did this as 8.3 8.4. I'm moving it too. Um, >> so because Jeff has been wrestling with this for a while and and had given early indication of his intention to retire, uh, it did give us an opportunity to reach out to a couple of search firms. Um, and I sent you that information um, via email. Sorry, it's not officially in the board packet, but everybody received that. And um, again, my

my whole spiel was a lot longer, but Jeff said no. >> If you really must read it. Um, but I will re-emphasize that, you know, although Jeff is retiring as superintendent, he is always going to be a valued member of the Panther family, and we look forward to seeing how he engages with our school and our community um in retirement, kicking his heels up a little. Welld deserved. Um but yeah, we have a lot of school year left and the impact he's going to have in the next eight eight months is also something we're really looking forward to. Um so hopefully everybody had a chance to read it. It is my recommendation based on the proposals as well as outside recommendations that I reached out to references and the fact that we worked with Steve

Joel as a school board um as a facilitator of our board workshop. It's my recommendation that we hire McFersonson Jacobson to lead our superintendent search. >> So move. >> All right. Motion from Liz. >> Second from Megan. Any discussion? All those in favor? >> I have a discussion question. So, how how would the process go from here? >> So, um once this is approved, then I'll reach out to them tomorrow. Um and I had kind of tentatively, you know, said, "Hey, December 1st, let's mark that on the calendar. I'll make sure that that's going to work for them." Um, and then they would be here December 1st to get input from teachers, staff, students, admin, and the board to then move forward with making a posting for the type of superintendent we think we need.

>> So, they'll the firm will meet with a lot of representatives of the community. >> Yes. >> Get an understanding of what who we are. >> Yeah. uh and not just hear from the school board about the kind the kind of superintendent that we think might have a chance of filling Jeff's shoes, >> but uh but uh what the district and community thinks of itself and thinks about what leadership, you know, key leadership points are best suited for us. Right. >> Right. >> Yeah. I mean, that's that's the really great thing about Jeff, you know, making the announcement now is that we will have >> the opportunity for anybody in the community who wants to engage in the process to give their thoughts. Um, in addition to potentially meeting in person with them, they have

also in their proposal said that they could do um surveys too so that people that don't have time to meet with them could still >> give input. And then of course it would be our responsibility as board members to also be listening and asking and >> of course >> hearing. >> And so we'll build some sort of a profile and based on that they will begin a search process. >> Yes. And the the goal, the ideal timing goal would be to have something posted before most schools go on winter break so that candidates have time over a winter break, assuming they're at a school someplace, that they would then have that time period where they could dig into our school online and submit an application. And of course, we may get some internally as well.

Okay, great. Thanks. >> I just wanted to say um I just wanted to send a big thank you to you for doing um a yman's job at doing all this research and leg work. >> Yeah, >> was really appreciated that you took this upon yourself and I know you had a ton of phone calls and conversations. Um it's just one of the many things that you've done over and above and beyond. So, I just wanted to >> recognize you. >> Yeah. Thank you. >> Thanks. Well, I mean, the hard part's coming up, so >> Big shoes to fill. Okay. So, we have a motion from Brian and a second from Megan. >> Sure. >> Was that it? >> Other way around. Okay. Um, any other discussion, questions? All those in favor? >> I. >> Any

opposed? >> Great. Well, we will we will get that show on the road. Um, and 8.4. Thank you again. >> 8.4. Um I don't want anybody to feel rushed on this but on at your table there is um so by way of background the office of retirement services is asking with this is something brand new is asking that boards approve um a shortterm like they're not saying go out more than a year or two um but a historic and then a couple year future salary schedule for all of our non-unized. So our basically our admin group um I've taken a stab with Jeff's help at um level one. So they want it by levels. So they'll be like level one is superintendent, level two will be principles, level three will be directors like of maintenance

etc. um they get more complicated as we go down. But anyway, so I took a stab at level one superintendent and the the way that you can box things is how the base, you know, your rationale for what the base salary increase will be and then you can add to it longevity, merit, and annuity. And the rationale that they had for this is apparently they were afraid some districts were trying to boost people right before retirement um so that it would hit OS but not necessarily hit your district as much >> um leading up to it. So what you have in front of you is what I would recommend either for discussion or approval tonight for level one superintendent. Oh, and the other thing important to know is that it's really going to only be

valid for this year because when you hire somebody, you start from scratch. So, um, but the rationale that is reflected in this is that for for this position, we really have not given very much in raises over the past three years, four years. Um, and we did do a pretty significant raise for our top-end teachers. And we also did, and Brian and I sat through um, a compensation study that shows, and this is where you see this piece of paper, where our superintendent is compared to other superintendents. Now, some of these districts are not the top end is like teac. So not really a comparable district, but the the bottom end certainly it's like a Leland and you know small school district Northport small school districts. Um so you can see that it's been pretty

low. So the rationale for is a uh 5% increase in base longevity is something we've been given giving to others in the district >> and you see the rates at which we give a longevity bonus. Um so that's just putting that superintendent position on par with that. And then merit is when we have accountability as one of our goals. Um merit puts a lot of responsibility on us. We have to be very clear on what earns merit, what the goals are, and the metrics are for achieving merit. Um, but I'm recommending that 3% at the end of the year up to 3% could be based on merit, and that would be achievement of specific goals. So again, I know I'm just putting it in front of you, so I we can wait and approve it

at the next meeting, but I thought given Jeff's news, we should probably make sure it's on a discussion earlier. rather than later. >> And and I could chime in on this as well, guys. We've spoken spoken about this in the finance committee for kind of on and off a long time. It's a requirement that has sort of been percolating and bouncing around um uh uh in the finance committee. Um I think we we need to do this uh given Jeff's planned retirement. Um it's a requirement from OS that this exists when he retires. in essence. And again, it's new, which is why we haven't had it before and why it hasn't been negotiated in the process of our negotiation uh group with the admin team previously. It's something we're have to start to have just

in general. Um, but the timing, I think, is important relative to to Jeff's plans. Um, and I I I would just emphasize Amy's points in terms of the the the numbers here for this year where we are suggesting we give Jeff a slightly larger raise than we have in the past. Uh, I think it ties to everything Amy said in terms of comps from other districts as well as what we've done for our teachers. Um, my suggestion would be that unless anyone's gotten substantial objections here that we go ahead and approve this. I think it's useful just to get it done. Um, it would be nice to not have it be an agenda item in the finance committee anymore. Yeah. >> Uh, so we stopped talking about it. Um, >> don't worry, we have all

the other levels to there's plenty more to do. Um, but that's that's my and when we spoke last week, I suggested that we present it to you guys for approval. Um, unless there are substantial objections or people want to stop and think about this a little bit, which is fine as well. >> So, I take that as a motion from Brian. >> I'll make a motion that we approve this schedule. Uh but happy to take any feedback or defer if we want to have some more in-depth discussions offline. >> I'd second the approval. >> Second from Scott. Any discussion? >> All those in favor? >> I. Any opposed? >> Great. Awesome. Thank you. All right. >> Ju just to thank you. But just to follow up, of course, thank you for many, many years of

working with everyone. as I said, more to do. But to Amy's point, uh, this the OS piece is just not geared at superintendent. It has to be done for everyone. So, I wish we were done with this conversation, but we're not. But, I think Amy's starting to put a nice system in place. I think we can fill it in and make it work well for everybody. So, thank you. >> And thanks, Amy, for your >> Thank you, Jeff. >> You're very welcome. >> Big year. Way. Do you see those goals? >> We get to present the rocking chair. >> Yeah, exactly. >> It's on my kids porch. >> That's a better idea. >> All right. At this point, uh we would open it up for public participation if anybody Great. Um so you probably have

done this before. We have a threem minute limit. Uh we we do request that you give your name and address. Um, and then just so we don't appear rude, this is your opportunity to speak, our opportunity to listen. We don't generally engage in a conversation. >> My name is Richard and Mary. We live at 1290 Main Street. We uh had the opportunity to have two children graduate from uh Frankfurt a few years back and uh look forward to having some of our grandkids be able to come to Frankfurt. Uh some feedback would be uh uh I have a difficulty hearing >> but I turned my hearing aid up to 10. Oh >> and I can hardly hear anybody. >> So I look at I think you got to improve if you want to have participation

from the audience. It's got to look at improvement. But uh one other thing is one of the things that I think uh we recognize in our kids is that uh home is something that uh people got to cook. If they don't cook, they go out and eat and they don't eat healthy food. We've got that situation with some of our graduates. And I I think I'd recommend that you look at having some maybe already have it, but have a home appetite where kids can learn how to do some of the basics and not have to go out to eat every meal. So appreciate the opportunity to come and listen to you got a lot of things going on. Congratulations, Jeff. >> Thank you. Great feedback and sorry we we could get closer to the mic

and then be heard. Sorry. Thank you. Good feedback. Anyone else? >> I'm Brook Wright. I live at 923 Elm Street. And I just wanted to say thank you. I came um toward the end of the summer, voiced our feelings at my house on some curriculum needs or requests from us and they were wholly met. And my seventh grader is really loving her new classes. It's been a really great um just addition for our Thank you. >> Great. Oh, Brooke, thanks for coming and saying that. Appreciate it. >> Great. We'd love to have you. All right. Anything else? All right. our next uh well tenative workshop on December 1st. Uh date and location will be announced probably we'll figure that out tomorrow or in a couple of days. Um and then our next regular meeting is

December 8th and motion to adjourn. >> All yours. >> Liz motions. >> Wes, you support? >> I support. >> All those in favor? I >> thank you. Thank you. I know. >> Oh.
