[Music] mike are we good to go [Music] okay great uh we will call this meeting to order and um start with the pledge of allegiance i pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all thank you um for roll call this evening we have all of our board members present with the exception of julie stefanski as well as our student representative is present as well and jeff would you like to um identify our guests for the sickening and the agenda manny is on the screen some of us have met manny he's going to talk about our elf can program a little bit amber wilson is on she's going to do a preschool report and

i believe jenna is also on and she's going to do a quick food uh overview or right at this point and then of course mike is here so pat i believe patty roth is going to join manny uh for his presentation if not i did well she's here he's here oh there you are thank you there you go um i tried to email that out to you the report the written report hopefully you had an opportunity to at least see it and if not um they'll walk you through it so those are our guests thank you are there any changes to the agenda this evening no no changes okay then we will move into the consent agenda which includes the minutes from the january 11th meeting the financial report and approval of the agenda i

move we accept the items in the consent agenda thank you amy do we have a second oh go ahead i heard stephanie all right so we have a motion by amy a second by stephanie to accept the consent agenda are there any questions or discussion there's just a slight typo i sent it to jeff at the bottom of page one i have we can adjust it it's nothing big though guys it's just a typo okay thank you all right all those in favor say aye aye aye aye opposed all right carries unanimously thank you and that takes us to our first opportunity for public comment mike i believe you said we do have one okay um i could be getting a superintendent's report error i can whatever works fine okay that's fine yeah yep it

pops in that's great so well good evening everyone um era once again congratulations to your son um i cannot imagine standing on a ski hill all day today so i think you look better than i would so well done okay january february uh once again it's continuing to meet with uh health department end of the first semester has taken place i've been in a conversation or on an ad hoc committee with the isd about special education transportation trying to cinch that up a little bit where kids are not on the bus quite so long to center programs that's what dean transportation uh present we did work at a district leadership team meeting i'll have a brief comment on that in a bit a superintendent's meeting is scheduled for this coming friday and those are always

interested in trying to keep up with the continual changes and then we have a professional development day a staff day really that i'll talk about in a bit and then also on the 22nd we'll have a benzie county safety meeting i had a three minute conversation today with jeff miller he's the sro for benzene central schools and tiffany wright rsro and they're working on a couple different plans with rebecca hubers and i'll get you up to date once i know what those are one has to do a reunification plan that we're working on and then our crisis uh plan that we're just adjusting a little bit so once that's in place i'll bring that back to you uh to take a look uh district leadership team uh i mentioned last month that we're working on

a new process my kip and i think the key word to that is continuous and the needs and the plans to match the funds and that will be more conversation as we go forward i know there's some conversation amongst the board as far as goals and i think this will fit in very well when i bring that back to you i don't think we have anybody on the screen that attended our vaccination clinic last friday i i have to say i am glad we had a snow day there were a lot of people here for round one and it was really to our advantage i know amy volunteered some time as well and saw how that all worked out uh at cop tune today there were 252 uh people vaccinated and that included community members

busy central teachers frankfurt alberta teachers and then we'll be back again they will be back again on march 5th for round two and we'll figure that out with kids beating the builder and we'll go from there here right here um our professional development day will be monday a week from today and we're going to talk about a a number of things in both buildings matt will have his staff and anne will have her staff in separate in their own buildings this time and a lot of it will be looking at trying to gauge where our kids are at not only academically but social and emotionally and starting to have those conversations as we start to put plans in place goal setting potential extended learning for summer possibly and we're all starting to put that and

work towards that and i'll have another report to you when we get back in march the series bond update that's it was in your packet that was one of the colored pages in your packet uh we're just about completed with uh series two funds and that might be mentioned a little bit in the finance report but the long and short of that that pot of money is about to be gone and i will be working with paul stoddard soon to look at how to sell the bonds for series 3. people accounting report um thank you so much to margaret evans um by the time she gets this one all wrapped up because we had a a an audit this year a field audit for our november count and audits are kind of challenging anyway but

when you have them in the in the midst of a pandemic and when we do virtual learning and remote learning and face-to-face learning uh she did a remarkable job pulling that all together we did have a few minor things as it says in the report those have already been taken care of and believe it or not our next count day is wednesday february 10th so this one isn't quite as extreme but there's lots to do and she spends a lot of time getting ready for that as well and finally putting the november one um in the books there were on page 17 uh this is kind of our fall count data and this gives you a little bit of a snapshot of all the things all the boxes she needs to check and all the

records she needs to go through and and it's quite a process but one of the items that came up and i'll get to that in a minute you can see that our enrollment was 472 it broke down 396 for face to face and 76 virtual we had what we have we have one student working in early middle college program we have students enrolled at nmc english learner students a couple in personal curriculums and that are economically disadvantaged is 250 and that's usually based on our free and reduced lunch accounts we have 60 identified homeless students and just to clarify what that definition means most of our students that would be what that would fit that category means they're doubled up they're usually living with grandparents or a couple families living together they're basically displaced from

their own residence we have 504 i'm sorry 22 section 504 kids and those are kids with some challenged uh learning situations that they have specific accommodations and then we have 60 special education students that range anywhere from speech and language to a number of different categories and then we have 67 title 1 students that have qualified that number is a bit higher than we've had in the past and i have part of that i believe is what we're dealing with and that's going to be some of our topic and topic of conversation uh next monday on how to continue to work with these students but one question that was brought to me was the what qualifies as an at-risk student that's called 31a risk qualifiers and i think i've been through that before but i

think it's important because we have a couple just some review and i know amy had a question as well so these risk qualifiers a student can have more than one they kind of overlap for instance one risk identifier might be economically disadvantaged but they may also be an english learner or they may be a parent that may have not completed high school so i'll read through these quickly and if you have more questions we can talk another time so those risk qualifiers are economically disadvantaged an english learner which language is a english is a second language absenteeism greater than 10 percent of the enrolled days victim of a child abuse or neglect pregnant teen or teen parent family history of school failure incarceration substance abuse did not complete high school and did not achieve proficiency

on ela math science or social studies in those content areas of m-step and that risk of not meeting district court curriculum objectives it's a lot but i think it's it's really important uh yes we have a lot of students but they cross over to different categories and once again it only takes one of those factors to be beyond that 31a at risk qualifier so with that uh then we also as we move forward there'll be an extended covered learning plan a report and there were some questions on that and that will be in our next item and i'll look at our goal setting report a training delivery report and then a reconfirmation learning plan that we have to do every month and then the school board workshop we've had kind of conversations about this from

at the from a board meeting or individual board members and right now we're still in this type of meeting until at least february 21st not to say this is my thinking not to say we could not have a board workshop virtually but i think it is a little more challenging so we can either kind of hold uh we can start to put plans in place and then hopefully we can meet face to face so that's just something i think we're going to have to continue this conversation down the road so i'll stop there a minute before i jump into the true law notes is there any questions so far i have a couple um the first one was um for the series three um bond and um when you said that franken that you and

frank have done initial conversations regarding projects are we going to have i'm on the building site committee are we going to have a meeting for that oh absolutely yeah we're at the very initial conversations definitely um and then my other question is uh the school safety meeting um the fact that you put that in here kind of reminded me that we haven't heard from tiffany basically since we went or officer right sorry since we went into virtual meetings i think i'm just wondering if we could get an update from her no problem i'll i'll add her on for next month cool um and then just my last question is just um i don't i don't remember the we have 76 virtual students is that pretty much 50 50 with elementary in high school or is

it weighted one way or the other oh mr tysworth is on the call he can probably answer that i mean i can by the time we'll find that he's probably on top of his head because he does this every single day um mike do we do we have a little bit of proportion which would end it goes okay i'm sure thank you and then just real quick you said um 252 total people were vaccinated at the clinic on friday roughly yeah she didn't have the exact numbers but i called her this morning and that's that's about what she where they're at right now awesome and they also i got an email today that i sent out to people that may have missed it on our staff there's a couple more clinics this week that they're

going to leave that open um we can apply to the our people who miss the vaccine that are on our staff can apply to get that shot this week yet that's good to know that was going to be my next question is if they have a follow-up time that they can make it we do and i i'm just going to say this out loud um the health department has been absolutely amazing it was very well organized they answer questions very quickly so we're just very fortunate to have our uh their help them helping us so thank you to them amy you had a question yeah um the fall count data how does that compare and and we don't have to answer this now but maybe um down the road like how does that compare over

the last few years in those categories oh and those themselves um as far as the at-risk categories you mean yeah i mean the student count number and right and the at-risk economically numbers are going to be pretty similar we'd have to go back through and i i can pull that report or margaret can help me pull that report from last year and i can at least compare this the 2020 fall back to the 2019 i might be i'll go a little bit further if i had to guess and just kind of off the top of my head i would say the title numbers are a bit higher probably the economically disadvantaged numbers are a bit higher homeless is pretty pretty pretty much the same i think those are the two that would come to mind

but i will double check that for you okay cool okay so with that being said mike we've already had some kids come back since count day then so and that's good any other questions i'm sorry okay i'm sorry katie go ahead no that's great um i was just thinking about that those data points as well and it might be really helpful to have some of that information when we do our school board workshop it might be an area to look at in terms of goals and kind of just thinking of our district as a whole what makes up our district now and how could we direct goals to really support the greatest number of kiddos that's a great idea okay i'll add that thank you and i think with that said katie i think we'll

i'll have some more information for you as well after our student i'm sorry after our teacher work day on the 15th and that and are going to have some more information for us as well anything else before i move forward on page 18 is just an agenda um of our district leadership team just kind of having a little idea how that what we do there uh one other question i had uh looking to review our vision and mission statements that is a yes um that was just that we dusted off um our every student every classroom every day that's been with us pretty solidly that's a quick you know a quick of what we really want to get accomplished and how what we believe in the frankfurt of birdier schools in partnership that section that's

going to be revamped a little bit it's a little wordy and this one it probably goes back quite a ways so we are going to revamp that a little bit through that process okay and then um also in your packet i did send you the capital bonds report and we have about um 33 000 or so left in series two so moving to the true law notes there's really little oh i'm sorry sorry i just um because aubrey had asked about a meeting for series three right um hasn't most of that money already been allocated for series three yeah i mean it's the gym floor the doors well not all of that that that series three in my memory is correct there's going to be about 750 thousand dollars in series three so that's going

to go away um i believe you know i'm talking with and i know frank's on the call and we don't need to dive into this right now but there's a couple of roofs that we need to take a close look at um a couple other projects gym floor is one although we may have enough we'll see what's left out of series two uh the doors for that gym project are are gonna be that's gonna be a hefty price but we'll get that bit out as well so as far as that goes next um and to go back to your question aubry that's the conversations we will begin to have you know and the whole other piece remember at a series three um the whole technology world comes out of series three as well and mike

i'm glad you brought that up era mike and mike tyson and i have a conversation with sarah easter scheduled i think it's thursday to just start having initial thoughts you know we've learned some things through our remote learning our virtual that maybe we could do some things in our classrooms um hopefully we don't have to do this again but it could add to the instruction of our kids from kids on trips or sick or a number of things so we've learned a ton and we just may see what other things we might be able to do with just standard practice in our teaching thank you for that i'll move along to the true law notes um as i said there's not really a lot that really stands out for our district at the moment there's

some vaccination things we're kind of moving through that there's a couple items uh one would be a page 22. it's a student safety zone that's been repealed or changed a little bit and i'll talk with tiffany officer wright on this as well but i think it's important if you go to page 23 despite the student safety zone abolishment the revised code still prohibits schools from employing or hiring individuals who have been convicted of a list of sex offenses in addition school officials may still implement reasonable rules and regulations to safeguard students so it did not take away local control it just changed the designation of how many feet and so forth and i'll work with the officer right on that as i said count day is wednesday again that's amazing already and i'm sure more

amazing to margaret um and then there's some liability type readings in here there's a 2021 election dates and deadlines uh were set there and by biennial elections i'll need to check with the isd to see where we're at with school boards and i know wes that's an area you always help us with if we need to get up there and vote for uh for school board for isd board members excuse me i'll have to check with uh dr sogleric on that and then once again the last item on this is we are still meeting electronically for board meetings at least through the 21st of february and then we'll go we'll see where we go after that there is a piece on policy but that doesn't relate to us because true law does have a similar

program that miola has but we have not um taken that up quite yet i would say there's a few districts in our local isd who use troon but the majority still are using neola and that's all for true law notes mike any word on our caller here is this a good time yes that would be great thank you i am here can you hear me awesome can you hear me now i love it this is great well i just want to yeah um board thank you so much for having me um this is andrew miller and i'm your new uh district 3 county commissioner so it represents frankfurt and chris lake township so i don't have any news for you because i'm a brand new committee member and so i i'm just brand brand new

and i'll be bringing you some great information but i didn't know if you want me to take anything to the county because because tomorrow we have a commissioner meeting well andy thank you for your service and also thank you for participating in the meeting and uh i don't know jeff is there anything you'd like me that's not off the top of my head no um andy you know you and i can have some further conversation once you get your first meeting under your belt and maybe go from there that would be great perfect that sounds great i'm definitely let them know that you uh you're happy with the health department though so that was good oh yes please that's off yes yeah yeah definitely that that's i think that's great news but yeah if you

guys need anything um my information is on the county website so um all of you are my constituents anyway also so if you guys need anything just let me know um you'll know how to get a hold of me so if you need anything else just give me a holler thank you andy hey thanks sarah i appreciate it all right did anybody else have any uh additional questions for jeff all right then i think jeff we can move into the extended copied uh learning plan update all righty i'm on page 30 of your packet this talks about the it's not really in the right order but this is the training on delivering access this is all of the things that uh mike ty's worth and others but but really especially mike has led us through

a number of these trainings as we went into virtual learning this was brand new for us and you can see there's a number of trainings that took place in a number of different ways from helping parents with panther virtual orientations uh how to manage schoology seesaw and then we also went back and then training for students i've i've set in on a couple of mike's uh panther virtual orientations and google meets for parents so these are all the things that we have done um throughout the while since march probably uh for sure to start getting in to get us up to speed with us and as i said uh to matt and ann and um mike tysworth and especially the the staff staff's willingness to teach in a teaching a world that they were not

trained to teach in um and they've done a nice job with this so this this report is on our transparency page of our website and this is one of the requirements uh through the extended code learning plan that we need to put out in front where everybody can see that so i didn't know anybody had any questions on that and we have mike here thank goodness if i can't answer it but it's pretty straightforward really it's just to identify what we've done with our training i i don't have a question on we're talking about just page 30 right now right now right now yes sorry yes okay okay the next page is our goal reporting page and this is one of the other requirements and this has to do with our assessments with nwea and

the first one is our growth growth on the benchmark and that will be how we how we move forward and then we will reassess this at the end of the year that's one area to look at it so that would be the growth so that really doesn't give you any numbers until you know we've grown this this stage from spring i'm sorry from fall to winter that percent of our kids have grown and then we'll do another benchmarking in the spring to compare our spring data to the february first data so that's called our growth benchmark measurement the second page page 32 that has to do with achievement where our kids are at a percentage of our kids that are at their grade level and one of the questions i i had our ex is

there an expectation to move those numbers higher before the end of the year and absolutely and that's some of the conversations we have been having as a district and will continue to have on monday and how do we get those numbers to move um that's just that's that's where we're at and this is our benchmarking here um note um that's how we had to do this report so and i can't give you much more than that except um we'll have to see where where we land um in this in the spring one thing i should mention because that might be a question the bottom box does not have statistically significant this aggregate what that simply means is we're such a small school our subgroups are not large enough to do any of that the rest

of this report and that's pretty common in the world of small schools and then the the final report this is i'm sorry let me ask you a question on that so those the growth benchmark assessment that was strictly done for the first time um this year because of covet or is this something that we've done oh we we do nwa benchmarking we have forever okay this isn't new this is just the report that i i wanted to show you that i have to submit because of our extended learning plan because in our extended learning plan we we do say that we will you see our goals are our goal category yeah over our goals and we have to assess our goal and then we'll assess it one more time okay and certainly benchmarking we've done

that and this isn't the only benchmark information we use we use delta math at the elementary use aims web uh nwa here um sat nes isn't necessarily a benchmark but it gives us really good data and psat as well okay well this is not done just because of our extended learning plan but is a requirement of our extended learning plan to report this okay and do we look at the trending data so we know like whether you know this year's by february 1st is in line better than we're behind we will yeah okay and and i can say just off the top of my head um through this process across the isd if there's been any dip kids have dipped probably what their expectation would have been in math but not reading uh jeff the

third grade reading program uh so they can pass the thir at a certain point does that end there it's not here wes at this point um i haven't in fact ann and i started we'll have this conversation tomorrow from our elementary principals group i think the front page of the record eagle on sunday had a little bit of if this is even going to stay in place we're not sure yet okay there's a little bit of jumping around is the third grade reading law going to be postponed one more year um there's a little bit of conversation in the spring assessments what those are going to look like i think spring assessments will stay i'm not sure of the three third grade reading law isn't going to be postponed okay yeah um if anyone's interested

that that uh cover article uh on the record eagle yesterday was called holding back on retention yep federal testing waiver could stall third grade reading law so that was just on the front page of the record eagle yesterday and that's one of our challenges offer all schools across the state or across the country is you know there's this kind of this moving target this change we're not really quite sure what we're going to be held to and what we're not going to be held to so we're just basically focusing on our individual kids and moving forward so jeff what's the difference between how you're assessing you like the difference between the benchmark assessment and whatever assessment that you're using to determine achievement by grade level well one is you're you're comparing the growth on the

benchmark assessment you're going to compare the amount of growth for instance from students there's a difference i'm right now let's say i'm a student a and reading 78 percent those 78 of my of those students in that grade have shown growth what we're hopeful is that by spring we're going to have 90 percent of those students have shown growth so you're using the same data it's just called a growth measurement okay alternatively to the next page that's telling you where our kids what percentage of our kids are at grade level growth does not mean you're necessarily at grade level means you're moving forward and the second the net following page is percentage of kids that would be classified at grade level so of course our ultimate goal is to make that number go up as

well but students that show growth may be well above grade level they can still show growth or they may be well below grade level showing growth gotcha okay thank you yup you're welcome moving on the the next item is our reconfirmation of our learning plan and this is an example of what what i submit on our transparency page these are actually january december numbers excuse me um i worked with margaret today and i'll forward you the january numbers but when we talk about are we approving our extended learning plan you're approving the plan you're not necessarily approving anything of the numbers but you would if we changed our plan then you would have you would have to reconfirm our plan but our extended learning plan is the same so when you look on page 34

just so you understand where this is coming from these are called two-way interaction rates and these are for our virtual well all of our students so if you're a face-to-face student you have interaction a lot of it based on attendance and knowing those kids are here our virtual students and that's we haven't we have at least five staff members that work with our virtual kids to make sure that two-way communication takes place between the parents two two-way communications a week and that's sometimes tricky because our our teachers can reach out but it's only becomes logged as a two-way communication when there is actually two-way communication between the parent the child and vice versa the other tricky part with this report is that if you look down on week three junior senior high school you see

a very dismal number that's very it's a very misleading number partly because the week don't ask me who makes these rules up but the week runs from wednesday to tuesday it doesn't run monday to friday so if you're wednesday to tuesday and you have a break in your week or whatever happens maybe because of holiday break or whatever your numbers are skewed now the good news is that the other measurement with this counts as our attendance day we have to have 75 of this for all students in in communication whether it be face-to-face or virtual to count the school day the beauty of this is we've we have counted every school day rather in our virtual land of covet when we get the january report these numbers will look a lot better it's just how

the week falls and it's as i said i think a meeting ago when i when margaret showed me how this is all configured and the analytics that go with this i thank my lucky stars we have someone to do this besides me because it's very challenging so these are also posted on our transparency page and they're on the front page of our website and then they're also on our transparency page that the state looks at so as far as moving forward with our extended learning plan this doesn't look any different i reported this on friday last friday we're in the same place we were as far as our plan we have some students as mike mentioned still remote virtual we have more of our students face to face and that may change as we move

the only difference would be as i'm not changing the plan but if we're totally remote like we were around thanksgiving time i have to report that to the state as well um because our learning has are the mechanism how we're delivering is a little bit different but right now we're fine so as far as the reconfirmation of our plan um i'll recommend we do that when we get to that action item so i had a quick question about this or maybe it's more of a comment but maybe you know why so what i notice here is that the 100 remote kids have on average lower percentages than the 100 not remote goods absolutely and that's where that trickiness comes in there because we can't count those percentages we can't count those kids as a two-way

communication unless we have two two-way communications the teachers may be doing everything they can do to get those kids to engage but i will be honest with you we have we have very few but we have a few kids that were very unengaged through virtual learning and now we're trying to figure out how to help those kids get caught back up and so forth so yeah that would yes that would be accurate observation aubry because when we have those kids face to face we have them engaged we keep better track of them and so forth and part of that is just attendance that they're here yeah and the only way we can tell their attendance if they're virtual is by the two two-way communication yeah but who went to what that's kind of what i

thought but i wanted just to hear some clarifying yeah that's what it is and you know ideally we would love to have that higher um and we're working on it but we have to get kids to engage with us as well i guess one of the questions that i had too was um since we're just looking at december would just be like the trend like i just would think you know because like a pandemic fatigue that perhaps it'll be interesting what our january numbers look like because i think the risk of fatigue is like anything else as we get closer to a holiday break or a break in the action so to speak we all kind of just go yeah i'll get to it tomorrow and we don't get back to it so we'll see

how our january numbers are but your observations are correct any other questions or comments on the go good learning plan mike do we have anybody in for public comment regarding the covert 19 learning plan okay thank you okay then we can move into reports and discussion and we'll start with the finance committee i think stephanie was going to give that report this evening yep i'll cover that report for julie thank you um jeff uh gave us the updated breakdown of how the esser and covid relief funds have been um have been spent and and ben from the isd has done a fantastic job of keeping that organized for us um very grateful for those funds that we've had to be able to help us with the additional expenses um we discussed uh our future need

uh for ap lit uh ann has done um a wonderful job of assisting with uh with that this year it was it was going to be virtual ap lit this year but the students really requested that anne continue to teach that and and she has graciously given that extra time to do that um and so there is going to be a stipend for ann uh going out this this semester uh as a as a thank you for for for doing that to recognize that time that she's spent but uh this is the last year she'll want to do that so we will need to um jeff is working on ap replacement for next year um discussed uh the junior high gym batting cage and moving forward with that it sounds like jeff has found a

way to make this a very very affordable project it's been something that's been discussed for a very long time um and the time is right to take advantage of it right now while we while we have some available funds to do it and um and there's some there's some benefits to the gym and the the players to be able to to do that um also moving forward with uh junior high gym completion taking place this summer again there's using up series two funds uh that that are going into that which jeff alluded to earlier um and and starting into series three it's something also that needs to be done the the floors and the doors specifically and and it looks like the timing this summer will be very good to do that and then again

um we've alluded to this a number of times in the past but it's something that just needs to be more and more in the forefront um the next bond going through you know bringing bringing planning for the next bond series and when we're going to go out and and ask for that is something that um we need to we need to get planning for and that is it thank you stephanie does anybody have any questions and just for everybody's information the finance committee meetings have moved from tuesdays to thursdays so they're now the first thursday of the month so we'll move on to the technology committee report okay thank you um and just a clarification too on committees um we don't really have a technology committee anymore as a standing committee so as we discussed

as jeff discussed previously we now have three standing committees they are building in sight or whatever then future planning building in sight future planning building inside thank you jeff finance and policy so those are our three and jeff's got the committee assignments for each of those and then we have um stephanie serves in the ex official role representing the board uh for the education foundation and then we have some some representative board representatives in various organizations such as panther parents the frankfurt alberta commun chamber foundation um and then wes represents the board at the isd and also um the planning commission so um but if we need a committee for something like technology mike for example um you know as we're getting into the series three and there might be technology needs if you would

like to convene a technology committee an ad hoc committee for a period of time to accomplish a specific goal by all means we can do that uh just let jeff know and um you know we can we can create an ad hoc committee other examples of ad hoc committees would be um you know if it's time if there were a personnel issue that needed to be addressed we would convene a personnel committee to deal with that um same with negotiations things that are sort of specific and not ongoing and um so those those ad hoc committees will be formed as needed and then we also have a couple board representatives on health uh reproductive health as well so um but so that that agenda item i will change that to say technology report thank you

yeah i've already crossed it off perfect great thank you um okay moving on to the food program report all right hello everybody hi john hi um so i think i can speak from all the ladies and myself we are very happy to be in person bagging meals gets very old very fast um and my daughter probably especially is number one on the list dude i was mean teacher lady and trying to pack lunch at the same time so we're all happy to be back in person um the last shutdown we had we probably we packed a lot less meals than the last like the huge shutdown starting in march um because we only did pick up for meals so our numbers were a lot lower this time around the christmas dinner meal delivery thing was

very successful that helped our numbers for december um when i put the claim numbers in for the month of december we were right around where we were for last december and we were not even in person the entire month so i thought that was pretty good um we still fed preschool and there were still um almost 20 kids in our high school building we fed every day for lunch that needed help with school um so currently uh mde has extended the they call it the extended summer meal program which we're a part of so that means all kids regardless of the income their families make they get free meals so they get free breakfast and lunch we're allowed two meals per day um so everybody can take advantage of that and through the end of

well through this whole summer program so it ends end of august um so we are collecting free and reduced forms still just for i need the um free and reduced numbers to qualify for the next year's summer food program and then margaret needs the data for other like title programs and other things so we're still collecting them but we're not really using that data right now um i kind of wanted to go over our changes in the lunch line we usually have this pretty salad bar with all of our local vegetables and kids get to pick whatever they want now it's all packaged condiments and pre-made salads and so it takes a lot of time they are coming out with more products that are pre-packaged already which makes it easier but a lot of them

are hard to come by i've spent lots of order times like last friday or this last friday i was in on the snow day trying to get pizza to come in and i tried ten different varieties of pizza and i'm like i finally had to email my wrap and say i need pizza how am i supposed to get this pizza and he finally got me a coin he said hurry there's only a few left so i hurried up and got him so it's tricky for everybody and he told me that since the schools are all coming into person now the companies aren't projecting the numbers the way they should so they're low on some supplies so it's frustrating all around for companies for us but we're all happy to be in person um also we

have we're trying to have the students touch as much items as possible south elementary there's pre-packaged silverware we have staff handing out milk and staff handing out all the food items so we're just really trying to keep the contact down as much as possible and then the one thing i miss most is making soup we can't have soup out for the high school kids to get themselves it's kind of sad i wouldn't have time to make it now anyway getting like 50 salads every day so um the the numbers overall i believe are if we stay in person i think they'll be higher than our normal school year um we're not even quite two full months in yet in person so it's hard to tell but the breakfast at elementary school is all in the

classroom and there's we're feeding like 208 kids a day over there for breakfast um so that's higher and the high school is kind of low but we're working on maybe increasing that a little bit maybe trying to get the kids in a little bit earlier or something um the lunch numbers at the high school are higher um i think because it's free and because they're just i'm encouraging them to take the full meal to get the full free meal um we also got the farm to school grant which i'm working on they're getting slowly started on that process so i have a survey to do this month and have to start putting invoices in um right now we're still packing meals for pickup but they're really light for the virtual students i probably have five

or six families do it a week which isn't very many but every little bit helps yeah so i think that's it for me jenna i just have a couple quick questions if i can when you say that we got the farm-to-school grant is that the ten cents a meal or is that something yeah okay it's the ten cents a meal yeah so we have i think we're allowed twenty eight hundred dollars it's a matching right now for the rest of the year or can that be retroactively used too retroactive yeah it started beginning the school year it just approved it late and you know cool so i guess one of the questions i had is that you were saying that in general all of the um ordering has been harder is it specifically harder also

with 10 cents a meal or has like with local stuff or has that been okay the local items have been okay i just haven't wanted to purchase a lot because then we shut down and then it just sits to waste so it's frustrating um yeah hopefully now i've been getting a lot of the um frozen fruit that i know will last and like vegetables so yeah that's great my other question so you said that breakfast is up and that they're eating those in the classroom do you think that that's a correlation do you think that's potentially why like that if those kids are in the classroom anyway during that time that they're they then go home and say hey we're all eating this at the same time like or do you think it's not at

all that do you think it has to do with it just being free and i think it's because it's it's offered in the classroom and they see their friends eating it it definitely helps and then they get to school late they still can have breakfast in the bathroom and not feel rushed to get to this their class yeah that's kind of how i took what you were saying but i wanted to make sure that i was understanding what you were saying okay thank you uh jenna like apples and things like that do they have to be pre-wrapped or wrapped individually or are they able to be uh we have them unwrapped right now but in smaller sizes like enough for each lunch group instead of a big bulk amount okay and i keep track of

it more okay they'd have um packaged apple slices i can get so i do that a lot but they just grab them okay does anyone else have any other questions for jenna thank you jenna and i hope you'll be back back to making soup sometime thanks i'm sure the students miss it too thank you okay next up is the preschool report yes amber is here to deliver that thank you amber yeah good evening everybody um i wanted to start by just recognizing the incredible group of early childhood educators that we have at frankfurt they have been exceptional through this tricky time they have only closed two weeks um for face to face and it was just one classroom at a time um and that includes the time that k-12 was virtual they provided some school

aged care for those families that couldn't um that needed to work so i just have to recognize them they've been flexible adaptable and really dedicated to all the children at frankfort um next we um were able to get a lot of grants this year uh we got 59 793 dollars in grants of that about nine thousand dollars went directly to families to uh support tuition and that included both our summer program and our preschool programs uh we were just able to secure five maybe six uh more gsrp slots than we originally had so we had 16 and as we said right now we have 21 i'm hoping tomorrow i can pull off a miracle and get one more uh so that's an additional 35 to 42 thousand dollars uh which actually means when i was

looking at it 26 of our 36 preschool uh children are receiving state or federal uh funding so that they can attend preschool for free which is pretty incredible and it's really good for the funding of our program um let's see we're working on we have our license renewal that's coming up that'll be the first time that we've had the program that licensing is going to come in and take a look at all the things we're doing make sure we're following all the laws um and we also have our quality rating that will be renewing at the same time and that quality rating right now we're at 4 out of 5 stars and that gives us priority so that our teachers can go back to school for free using the teach scholarship which is really amazing

we have two taking advantage of that right now um and then it also helps with families that receive a child care subsidy that gives us an extra dollar 25 an hour that we get for reimbursement which is really incredible that actually covers what we would charge in tuition um and i think that covers about everything what questions do you have i'm sorry i was taking notes on the grant when you were talking about the what did you list a number yeah we got a total of 59 793 congratulations that's really impressive that's fantastic yeah and then did you say the additional gsrp slots would generate 36 to 40 thousand dollars yeah it's 35 to 42. so it's 35 if it's five and then seven thousand more if it's six wow it also allows us to

uh we have an excess of gsrp funding just because historically we've been at about 50 gsrp so we started out with eight two years ago and now we're up to uh 21 or 22 so that allows us to dip into some of those funds we haven't been able to use and we'll be able to go back to the beginning of the school year and get reimbursed a little higher for those nice job this is all really exciting news it's been a tricky year a good one i'm sure it has uh anybody else have any questions for amber thank you for being with us and for the update appreciate that absolutely have a good night thank you too thank you amber thank you jenna okay then we have our local college access network update some of

us met manny just prior and i'd like to introduce uh manny and patty is on the call as well um i'll let i'll let maybe patty talk a little bit about elkan where it's come from it's a grant program and then manny is paid through that grant to help our local college access and i know manny's going to say this but i just want to reiterate a lot of times people think it's just college not necessarily it's programming once you get out of high school i think that's so college is kind of a generic term so turn it over to manny and patty thank you yeah so i think we spoke to this group or perhaps not or jeff has just to um inform you on the local college access network and that's a that's

a group here in the county that covers the entire benzie county with the ultimate goal of increasing the the college going environment in benzie county and so that group can have goals that revolve around early childhood all the way through um through elementary high school and even adult education too and so it's basically just kind of promoting and doing anything that we can as an organized group in promoting education and in particularly that post-secondary um education and so through this group we um applied for a grant which was called um advise michigan and that's how we received the the funding to support a college advisor who is manny and we do share with benzie central so he's at frankfort high school two days a week and he's at benzie central three days a week so

he has prepared a report for you a lot of the things in the report that those are required for him to collect and research and then report out and then share with everyone so as a part of his position he's required to do those and then he's also very ambitious very enthusiastic and he i think he's done a really good job of listening to the collective voice of benzie county and what we're looking for but then also making sure that frankfort high school is getting what frankfurt high school needs and benzie central is getting what benzie needs um and then he's been really great too about sharing it with with both of our schools as well so um i will let him share his report with you and then if you have any questions we

will answer those when he's done uh thank you patty um first of all thank you so much for having me here i'm a little bit nervous because i have a lot of parents here who might have seen some of what i'm doing but yeah uh i want to start um as you might have seen i'm just going to glance over some of the things that i've seen um first of all i'm going to go a little introduction of who i am in kind of a background um my name is manuel gordon martinez uh you can call me manny some students call mr lamarczy but that's a little hard sometimes and that's okay um i graduated from saginaw valley about two and a half years ago um a degree in public health the irony of this

so i've been very critical with everything when it comes to policy because i really am very curious about how different places implemented both especially frankfurt and bensey and living here in traverse city which yes it is kind of a drive to go there but i still do it proudly it's a beautiful drive um it's kind of interesting to see the differences of how each school has implemented uh depending on what the resource they have available and the sizes the schools um the way this position works is that as patty mentioned i'm funded by different places i get my program get funded from state federal uh donations both schools so i'm serving it's not really a job it's a service because i'm through americorps so i have to complete a certain amount of hours uh paddy

is very kind and very flexible in the way um my hours are administered my main goal is to promote college in general college i describe as any post-secondary education plans that is your certificate program so it can usually be a couple weeks for a couple of months or a year to your associate and bachelor degree anything after that i unfortunately don't have my masters yet so i cannot really advise too much on it i will definitely have the conversation with students but once i get there um the way i collect information is to a program a website called grace um i usually collect uh four main points throughout the year which i kind of point out on the report at the end but i want to make sure that we all have the same idea

having this conversation i collect the amount of people who register for the sat which uh ben sorry frankfurt is doing very well only have one student who recently sorry two students who one of them recently joined the school system who have not been registered for the sat uh my program is not looking for people who complete it the sat or got a score but rather they registered after that is more on the student rather than on us the second point is the amount of applications or they apply for college um the third part is the amount of students who complete their fafsa which is my biggest uh pet peeve right now i'm sure you've heard this for years and the last one is enrollment and my goal and my job is kind of to make

sure everything goes smoothly to the whole process um i want to point out a couple things that in the report that they have the gpa the usually the more applications the better the grades sorry there they hire actually the scholarships they get so that's usually pretty straightforward and also the higher gpa most likely they're going to computer fafsa i have noticed that uh in both bency and frankfurt and that's something i want to point out because those who do not have a high gpa means titles usually the ones who require a little more help um i will mention bency so you have a point of comparison when it comes to my program right now uh in my opinion we are doing very well at frankfurt um uh we have a lot of support and it's

a small school so that kind of helps me to kind of just tackle students very directly i'm able to talk to every student one day if i had to which i have before um been seeing the other hand is a bit of a struggle i have their 109 seniors so about three times the amount of seniors having uh frankfurt so is can be kind of interesting so i'll be honest with you this job was a little hard at the beginning um there has now been an advisor before so i had to kind of start from scratch um having patti has been amazing she is great support uh however she's still kind of new in the school system so uh the amount of resources that i had not only from frankfurt and bensey were a little

limited but the support from the school's staff was there uh i cannot put i have to put that up front everyone was always willing to help me so one of the first thing i did in september was organize virtual visits for students i organized about 40 in total uh one um you know one for frankfurt one for bansi so about 20. most of them were colleges uh your sec two years or four year universities however sorry community college and universities but however i had two uh presentations one about um what's it called um michigan works which usually promotes tracer apprenticeships and the other one was for uh welding school unfortunately uh only the first week was very successful uh students didn't seem to really enjoy the virtual idea of having a representative just talk to

them which is the same thing they kind of been doing for several months however um i just do want to have the opportunity i knew that some kids are not going to show up but i'm like here pushing through email uh literally go into the classes and advertising them um send emails to parents in some cases because i want to make sure they know that it is available uh in october was the most stressful month of all between all the presentations and i started the month with uh fafsa night um it was very stressful i'll be honest with you having all those things in the first month however i was able to learn everything i needed to not only prepare myself with the other college advisor that comes next after me all the resources they're

gonna need and also for the school system so in case i have to do this again i can do within a day i can make sure i have every information ready uh i only had two people show up for the fast tonight again that was on march 1st sorry uh october 1st um yay um but besides that i also had a college gear day which i promoted basically wearing a college attire it wasn't very popular in other schools when you had one student each school who really said like hey i'm wearing college outfit and i'm like here gift card right away um [Music] in both schools are as you probably those who work in the school system i have seen i created a kind of a big poster where i put the schools that the

staff went and their little picture um cmu was the winner apparently a lot of teachers went there there you are so my goal with that is to show that not only you can go local but also out of state and bring that information back i'm a bit prominent of going out and bringing information back however some people like to promote what they have there here and keep it here which is also a great idea as well um some of the challenges that i've seen i'll be honest and so i usually listen to the uh board meeting for the past couple months can gonna know what's going on uh same thing that you have mentioned before students uh who are virtual engagement is definitely an issue and i noticed that some of the students were virtual

like you mentioned before grades are slipping and those are students who mostly have not completed their fafsa as well second there's some correlation there um they don't check their emails as often as i would like to i can be next to them like oh i don't think i've got an email had the laptop there have not opened a single one however to my extent i'm okay with that because they have all the emails that have sent them with all the information they need to it once they decide to go through the process it is right there it's kind of a collection in a way and also is get in touch with some of the parents and some of the seniors this is mainly for bency because i have there about 25 of the 109 students

i've not talked to at all have not gotten any kind of messages i've talked to every student every senior but one in frankfurt so i think that's a pretty good number which i'm going to go more later on um another challenge i faced in this position was a slow start with the schools uh and also my lack of knowledge in the position per se um being here twice a week kind of made it a little harder to connect with students at first but uh you are so blessed to have uh jamie smith as the life skill teacher she is in my opinion one of the best assets you have when it comes to the college one experience uh she definitely has none of the program that she has but also the resource that she provides

to students is incredible uh she made my job a little easier at first she kind of knew what's going on and she gave me the confidence that i needed so i want to give her a shout out um the only thing i would like with the program is uh to follow through more i appreciate the fact that they talk about debt which kind of follows through a little with house before college in some cases uh also i would like to see the program just uh kind of follow through more in january february to make sure the students are getting that little reminder like hey finish up um one last thing i want to mention with my position kind of the challenge is that like i mentioned there wasn't much an infrastructure of what the school

board or the principal itself no principle but like the school itself required from me it's more like what it was gonna just written down but i had to do so it's more like the personalized uh characters what you expect from me what you want to see from me it would have been great however they trying to impress everyone really forced me to kind of try to figure out the best ways to connect the thoughts i guess um in conclusion i want to say that i have sent and i've been able to communicate with every student that needs the information right now and i'm just going to start listing a couple little things that i have been putting together so not only yourself the community or any person comes after me has this information so i

have sent by email already list of the universities in michigan uh with the representative links to their mission page and requirements to apply this remains very important because i'm sorry a college website is the most confusing thing in the whole world and i took my time and i took that 15 public universities and i created an excel spreadsheet where you can just go to each one you can apply and everything you can have the representative they can you can email them if you have any questions that seriously took quite a bit i also have pdf files about general information about company the fafsa common mistake the tuition incentive program uh regional local scholarships and tips about how writing essays and creating your fsa id not only that i also got i was able to get

links to videos to all of those because some people are more visual and i understand that some parents in a survey that i did did not finish high school or college so i want to make sure that uh reading is not really a problem or like an issue when it comes to that so i love videos it's my personally my first my best way to communicate um i i heard that some board members wanted to know the most popular colleges that students have applied um and it's obviously michigan state and um very popular especially uh this senior class is a very good gpa like the top 10 are very high up there so they really can get into mostly any college but also central western davenport ferris nmc and grand valley are the most popular

ones it makes sense because uh the location that where they're at and how popular they are um [Music] i will mention a little later uh some of the numbers that i'm sure you're super interested in um i've done several workshops and i will still be able to do them just send me an email um now let me hear for the students in frankfurt i'm here for the community as well so if you know anyone that is in their mid 20s or 30s or later on who wants to go back to school and they need help doing any of the following i'm here for them no matter what i have a lot of free time right now um i have workshops about how to create your fsad how to complete a fafsa how to get your

transcript sent through parchment and just simply how to apply for school and read your offer letter some people call them a war letter i'm sorry they put their debt and loans i don't call them awards i call them an offer uh personally i don't ever want a student to take any debt uh if it means to go to college but again it's up to the student to make the decision so moving more like now and this year it's actually been kind of busy to a certain extent i presented in frankfurt to all six spanish classes between middle school and high school about studying abroad for me it's a big deal as you can hear me speak a little funny i just uh study abroad here in the united states my senior year in high school

and i also studied abroad in valparaiso in chile uh english is my second language so it was a little easier to go to a speaking spanish country for that i share my experience with someone's students um and i wanted to break the ice in some cases because it was the first time they saw me and i didn't want to say hey knock knock you going to college it's more about this experience that i got because i decided to take this path um also i in part of my college one curriculum i also talked to seventh and eighth graders which honestly they're a lot more fun than some of my seniors i'm sorry uh about just common college vocabulary location of the public fifteen universities and just talking about some myth um if i'm a second

hoover is the english teacher she was very nice to let me be in her classes and kids were excited they were participating um they really wanted to know more and i like that specific time and i really want to work more with some of the younger ones because reality has not sitting too much where they have that passion that dream that ambitious of doing whatever they want um and i want to keep that that light possible uh as jeff mentioned yes college is more than just what people usually think and i noticed that most students style college watch just for whether you're rich whether you're smart whether if you can do a b and c and i'm like thanks to the uh fast push of online school right now anyone literally anyone can go to

school uh colleges have been very proactive with their online education so transportation right now is not even a barrier usually it comes to finances and if so there are ways to get through that uh lastly i want to mention about the activities that i will be doing um obviously the most critical ones are my high schoolers uh 9th 10th and 11th grade are coming up next uh with patti we're working on several presentations and games that i want to have with them and at the end of the semester it's going to be more to celebrate the accomplishment of the seniors again i have not gone there yet so if you have questions about that i'll come back to you um let's go back on the numbers uh which i'm sure some of you are a

little interested in uh this information is of up to today uh i will change uh for the positive in the next couple of days so we have 33 seniors sorry 34 seniors and i've talked to 33 of them one-on-one one-on-one means that i whether it's a five-minute conversation two-minute conversation an hour conversation i sip with them and i'm like what do you want to do in the next couple years and how can i help you even students who have told me i do not want to pursue a post-secondary education i'm like okay they need help with your resume do you need help finding a job that interested you and someone say i would like to do the welding i mean that's post-secondary education okay where do you want to go i don't know okay i

have places for you come sit down with me and after that it's more on the student i do hunt them down every now and then but i would like to be respectful of their decisions and they can come to me whenever they feel comfortable um 30 like i mentioned before 32 out of students have registered for sat so we're doing very good on that and the fun part right now 26 out of 34 students have submitted at least one college application this is because uh like i mentioned jamie smith uh has an assignment where they have to apply for college so that really helps our numbers and how quote unquote good i look when it comes to that part um 19 out of 34 have submitted three or more applications and 12 out of 34

has made more than five applications for different colleges um and in total uh frankfurt students have have submitted 134 applications according to my record um benzy has a a little more than that i don't remember the number right now but obviously they do have a large amount of students uh over there five out of 34 seniors decided that they're not going to pursue a post-secondary education and i have this little bit discrepancy there in the six five or six that said they want to go to college however they have not applied yet um some of those have ieps so it is definitely a different process and i have other resources for parents as well i'm not sure how familiar you are with a fafsa follower tracker it's kind of like the public information about how

many students have completed their fafsa um according to that seven out of 34 so 50 our students have completed fafsa and one other question that was before is how many students have enrolled i still do not have that information uh students right now receiving their award letters i do i'm helping them kind of understand the terminology and parents too so i'll come back to you in about two months probably with a little more information um generally speaking we're doing very good uh i will show you i will share my screen right now something that might be very uh enlightening kind of fun but faster rates are dropping all across michigan and we're not an exception unfortunately but we are above a lot of other schools proportionately speaking of course um i will continue to support

my students and i will be going eventually to the elementary schools to try to have some fun games i'm not too much of a younger younger kids but i will sure do my best and get the idea from the educators um which i heard super great um something i'm very proud of is um i decided to put a little notch in what i'm good at i guess and i created a resource a website um for not only parents but also students and i also i'm doing one for spanish speaking uh persons this one is very important for me because um i know that in bands in frankfurt there are some parents and there are some people who may english may not be their first language so i'm kind of getting through that um i'm not

good at this presenting things so i'm going to try to share a screen quick um so we can kind of know what's going on okay so are you able to see this right now not yet okay share let me see so i'm not can you see this right now this here okay uh we're gonna go here frankfurt hey manny this is patty i'm sorry to interrupt but i think we're running short on time and so i don't know if there is um maybe a website or a link that we can share with the board so they could um look at it on their own and then maybe get back with you or me if they have any questions on it okay um it's gonna take one minute i think let me go quick i just

want to point out if you're able to see this that we're right here up top i don't know if you see the red line um compared to other schools we're doing pretty good and this is just fifth about so many not many schools are in that site okay so let me just stop presenting here so i just want to point that out a little quick um so you can see that we are above many other schools proportionally speaking but that's basically is the report that i have i know i talk a lot and i talk a little fast sometimes but let me know if you have any questions or anything i can get for you in the next couple weeks thank you very much does anybody have any questions no thanks manny you for the

update i have a quick question sorry um so manny i know that i read in your report that um juniors and seniors were invited to the college visits are there any other times that you're working with the juniors or is that going to happen this spring or is that not going to happen at all uh yes i will definitely have a conversation with them um it's a little tricky because we want to make sure they're getting their in class time that they lose about two weeks in person so we're being uh very conscious about that and we're trying to do our best i also was uh out for about almost two weeks um because of covet so i lost some time there as well once i have my 9th to 11th presentations and resources given

to them i will report to you thank you and and patty um just for clarification this is always a one-year position of an americorps or is it longer than that ten months it's uh we have the we have the grant for three years um and then as an americorps member they have the option to complete a year and continue or just complete their one year and then we would have to look for someone else awesome thank you anything else okay we can move on to ann with the elementary school principles report hi everybody um i shared my report with you we celebrated martin luther king day and we had a beautiful reading as part of our champs assembly with uh miss caitlin the local celebrity from bunsen shores district library and it was a beautifully

read story for our students and then there was a short presentation that i did about what the civil rights movement was and why martin luther king jr was important and then some of the classrooms did additional activities and you can see some of those listed there we're celebrating our chapter book challenge right now um and as of last week we already had over a hundred um books that have been read and i shared a picture from the bulletin board uh there uh that we're putting the spines of the books that students have read shout out to sue hammond for organizing that and getting prizes and uh just really promoting it for our students our ski program our recreational ski program this year has 35 students and that's a record for us and probably it was

a little bit because there weren't winter sports or going on at the time but we've had great participation amy summer has done a really good job of organizing it and getting people involved and then being there on the very cold slopes on wednesday nights um we have nordic rocks going on right now as part of our physical education ryan jeros and beth major and a bunch of of her volunteers are coming to the school and they are doing uh cross-country skiing with our students and we just got more snow so that's very exciting we have our second set of testing completed our benchmark testing that consists of aims web which is a reading assessment delta math and then the nwa that jeff was talking about more we had 70 percent of our students showing growth

in one or more areas uh classroom teachers did a great job of getting nwa testing done our title team peggy mick tammy zimmerman lisa ruff did a wonderful job getting all of our aims web testing done and then becky miller helped with our makeup test so great job for all of them we're celebrating black history month at frankfurt elementary school uh with daily announcements about achievements for african-american members of our society today we focused on ralph ellison it was his birthday and talked about writing him writing invisible man we had a successful lockdown our first of the year because our other two were canceled um i have attended some trainings this month high quality iep training that was two sessions uh confronting history in real time that talks about having difficult conversations i also participated

in the regional elementary administrators meeting and district leadership team among many other meetings uh the first round of formal observations are completed with pre and post conferences also done i'm beginning the second round of informals my goal is to have all of the second round of formals completed before spring break just because it's really nice to have that done so that is my short and sweet report any questions okay great thank you ann thank you and then matt with the junior senior high school principals report hi everybody hello okay you should be able to see my screen now um i try to go through these uh as quickly as i can i just i wanted to give some updates first on our code uh situation we had some cases uh two weeks ago at this

point we do not have any current covered cases open in our building so i wanted to make sure the board was updated on that um also uh to my knowledge we only have one student in quarantine at the time um and that actually wasn't from a school related case um which is which is great so now we have you know our students back in the building um we had a little bit of uh um you know what we estimated was would be a couple cases here once we um ended up back face to face but um that happened and and uh but we you know we we our quarantine numbers were much lower than they were in the fall for the couple cases that we did have and uh we're hoping that will continue to

be the trend um etc and uh so as mike mentioned earlier too i wanted to give a panther a virtual update you guys talked about number of students first semester we finished the semester with 33 kids um taking 100 um you know panther virtual classes um the second semester we're very close to that we're at 30 right now now we started with a much bigger number in the fall about by the end of the semester we ended up with 43 and then the 30 that we have taking second semester 100 virtual we feel pretty good about those kids you know continuing and finishing and uh and being able to take on the responsibilities that come with 100 virtual we also have face-to-face students taking at least one ingenuity class the first semester we had 28

different students taking 35 classes in the second semester we have 25 students now as of you know a couple weeks ago when we started the first semester second semester and then they're taking 32 classes and so the numbers are are similar with how we finished the first semester i do want to give a shout out to our mentors haley mike tysworth emily stevenson tristan pencil mike zimmerman trina brown marta shabazzi dale townsend rangeros and kathy all those all those mentors worked extremely hard not only learning the program but as as jeff mentioned earlier and what's so important with margaret as she does her pupil accounting that two-way communication is essential and all of those mentors were part of that so i just i want to make sure to give them a mention and a shout

out i haven't done that in the past and i wanted to make sure i got that and especially as we get into the push going into second semester before i go on to the next couple data points does anybody have any questions about panther virtual okay i'll continue uh end of first semester data we're i think i want to say oh well so here's what i'm going to say about end of semester data um what we're going to be looking at here for the next few weeks is how our semester ended as most of you know and we talked about in the last meeting we had a lot of kids when they transitioned back from remote we're way behind we had about 94 uh students failing uh roughly about 200 classes at some point when

they came back from remote that's not how we finished so we're sorting through that data right now our teachers did an outstanding job working with kids as they transitioned back trying to get them caught up and trying to try to make sure that um they they were able to at least try to make up some work that maybe they missed and everybody's situation was a little different especially when taking into account uh maybe their um you know their access to connectivity their family situations you know the fact that they were maybe they were helping take care of their siblings et cetera so um staff has just done a really good job and this semester we've given a number of kids incompletes to end the semester so that they can still try to finish up a

few things to maybe get the the gray that they had um um you know hopefully desired or if we had some kids that hadn't passed uh maybe they're they're working on a few things to get uh tied up um where do we go from here that's a big discussion for us next monday we're looking at expanding the school year into summer school for kids that are now behind in some credits again this is a this is something that is across the state uh and across the nation trying to get some kids caught up that maybe fell behind during the pandemics especially during a remote so we'll be talking about those students and and and where do we go from here we're trying to get students caught up and get credits caught up and these are

these are continual questions that we have a lot um patty's doing a great job in the office working with senior students especially in junior students trying to get those students caught up and at least in some type of plan to make sure that they still graduate on time as ann mentioned classroom observations continue we're really trying to take advantage of being face to face and get into as many classrooms as possible tonight was the first night for uh the return to play for contact sports um our building opened up for a middle school game tonight and uh so we had uh just parents only in attendance tonight um for our first game back and that limited attendance will continue um you know for the for the time being um all students uh are still and

spectators are going to be required to wear masks etc uh the one right now exception to that is as our um for a contact sport is wrestling um there'll be a steam program set up for our wrestlers uh where they have to take over tests and that'll be monitored by not only we'll have an outside doctor but also by our trainer alexis and we'll be within the mhsa guidelines but also the um the health department guidelines on how making that work and uh so we're working with them closely that was just down i think and uh so there'll be a transition to that uh we have a big uh work together panther clothing and food pantry um emily stevenson and uh chris hollenbeck really worked hard in our clothing uh pantry and then now we

expanded that to a food pantry chris working with emily and jamie smith and uh we're we're really trying to build some of that up to help some of our students who might might not have the support they need at home uh and we're trying all these things with integrity and get kids what they need so that they can be successful in the classroom um pd dave mentioned a lot of focus on our pd day next monday also we have some isds coming in uh from one of our uh consultants that works at our special ed team he's gonna be talking to some staff about accommodations looking forward to that uh support from the isd and then i wanted to give a shout out to margaret patty um chris uh jeff and mike zimmerman last week

for helping cover me while i was in quarantine and uh i just appreciate all their help etc uh that's it for my report um does anybody have any questions i have a couple questions um my first two questions are for both you and ann matt um so have report cards been mailed or they have for both buildings okay and then um you talk we're talking about the um panther um clothes whatever that was i didn't remember what you called it but um have we been uh able to take advantage or utilize mrs mullen's closet for some of our student needs great yeah we do in both buildings um he and shaking her head um carrie and ann worked uh um with mrs mullen's closet uh chris salimbic works in our building mrs mullins along with

um emily stevenson so been a huge supporter and they've been great as far as reimbursing teachers and and helping us support kids yeah great thank you just mrs mullen's closet recently um purchased over a thousand dollars worth of shampoo and conditioner for um lice issues for benzene central and for us we placed the order and shared it with the rest of them that's great thank you for sharing that um and then matt my other question is so just on the going back to the f now that athletics have resumed so are you saying that both our boys and girls basketball programs will be wearing masks while they're playing the game okay yeah they they will there's there's been discussion and lots of talk about um if there's students testing and this and that and right

now that's not a we have not been given that information um you know through the testing program right as of today everybody's wearing masks and and uh we're moving forward with the dhs early excuse me the health department statement that came out they talked about uh where we're unable to wear mass and then as long as they were part of the testing protocol right and so that might be something that's down there coming down the road for all students but right now like we're going into tomorrow night's opening games both teams wearing masks and and wrestling right now is the only contact sport uh that won't be wearing masks and being tested okay because that's how i read it in the epidemic order was that all contact sports had the option to if if you

couldn't wear masks you could choose this testing protocol and apparently there was more information was supposed to come out yesterday about that but i i didn't look into it but yeah and it didn't come out yeah okay not yet okay thank you anybody else have any questions wes matt i just want to basically thank you for having chris in the office to help families and children in need for heat and food and with their living space uh during this time of need and reaching out to the community to help you know get the funds out yeah she's been great at connecting a lot of resources yeah yeah thank you for that comment anything else thank you matt very much so that concludes the reports and takes us into our business items the first one is

the reconfirmation of the extended copit19 learning plan thank you uh this as i said earlier this evening this is very uh similar to what we've done in the past i won't take time to read all of the verbage because it has not changed it's the recommendation of the superintendent to reconfirm the extended covet 19 learning plan for january of 2021 phil moved thank you amy leave a second attack nope go ahead all right all those in favor say aye hi any opposed hearing none that motion passes and we will move on to all right let's look to the next one the approval of our spring coaches thank you the list of spring coaches are there for dave jackson our athletic director i won't go through and read all of those if you have any specific

questions i'm happy to answer but it's my recommendation to approve the athletic coaching assignments for the spring season for the attached list be a list of excuses i'll make that motion to approve the list motion by stephanie is there a second second oh you know what i i should abstain sorry yes anybody else on here oh second thank you katie so we have a motion by stephanie in a second by katie are there any questions or discussion on the list of coaches that have been presented for spring sports i just have a quick question jeff just more from a procedural standpoint but i was just curious i guess why the motion to hire the travis and am i pronouncing dream trying to believe yes how was that why why i was just curious why it

was a separate motion from the approval from the list of it's like seems like we're doing it twice are you talking about the next uh i'm i'm confused are you talking about i was curious why there were two business items to hire the same person for the same position he's already on this we're gonna be honest with you it should have been reversed we do have to hire our baseball coach so i guess we could go back and once he's hired to go back and amend this but he will be our us in the next item he will be our baseball coach if approved so i guess i did those in reverse well i'm sorry i'm not asking my question very well then so when you present the motion that we're on right now that

gives this list of coaches is that not sufficient i to me i feel like we're hiring these people by making by approving this list we're approving the hiring of these coaches you you have done so that is correct it's just like yes i haven't brought i haven't brought um mr trims uh official hiring but i guess in that sense we did hire him that is correct is it because he's new or anything he would be a new hire and if you would like we can simply amend the motion and not approve the baseball coach at this time or i mean add or we can put this on hold and go hire the baseball coach and come back to this it's really whatever you i guess i don't understand why we have to hire the baseball

coach separately from this list of coaches that's what i'm trying to figure out any new employee that comes in the district we've always hired whether it be a teacher a preschool teacher or anyone we've just hired them for anybody that's a new employee travis would be a new employee because of the resignation of derrick jackson but aren't our coaches aren't they all one-year contracts yes they are so basically what i would do typically what i've done in the past is i give you a background of why we that we've hired a new baseball coach just as i've given you a background we've hired anyone so yes technically you have just hired your baseball coach and we can we can we do not need to pursue item 2021 10.3 but i think maybe two it's part

of the protocol for making sure that they've done the proper background checks and everything else for a new hire versus the the sheep that has all the coaches would just be like uh you know it's a renewal well and also because before before two years ago we didn't do the full list like two years ago he only brought us the the new right and then two years ago we decided that we should be hiring everybody once a year but the reason we did them all in one patch as far as what i understood is because like what amy is or what yeah amy was saying is that they're the first small ones the procedural mistake i made is i have these two board action sheets in the wrong order okay well pardon my not knowing

the proper procedure here but could we do 10.3 first and then do 10.2 absolutely yes i would i would and that would cause this as i just said that's my error in putting the packet together i have them reversed i should have had 10 point i should have had the hiring of our baseball coach and then approving our spring coaches list okay well we have a motion and a second so can we put this on pause and go to the next one hire the baseball coach and then come back and complete the vote on 10.2 yes and i apologize for that i will make sure the minutes reflect that all right thank you so let's move to the next business item which is the hiring of the head baseball coach yes thank you um okay

with that said uh dave jackson received a resignation from derrick jackson um as our varsity baseball coach in the past fall this past fall during that then once that was determined he we posted the position three candidates were interviewed by david jackson and mike zimmerman uh following three interviews it was determined that mr tram was the best candidate for the job he has a passion for mr jackson he has a passion for baseball and has played ball at the college level most importantly he has the ability to build relationships and motivate his student athletes he has been in the community for five years and has a long-term commitment to continue with the baseball program so that that is the background and then it's my recommendation uh to approve the hiring of mr tram as the

varsity baseball coach okay would somebody like to make that motion i'll make that motion thank you stephanie for a second wes thank you okay so now questions or comments on the hiring of mr travis train does he have coaching experience jeff he has it at um not at the college level but he has coast athletes in the past yes yep but not a team he doesn't have any team coaches he has team experience um i'm not sure at the varsity level but i know he has team coaching experience and and right now we don't have any assistant coach for him right we do not at the moment any other questions comments all right then we'll move to a vote since this is a hiring we'll do a roll call vote wes yes katie yes aubry

yes amy yes stephanie yes and my vote is yes all right so thank you for that and we'll go back to 10.2 and um again so we have a motion by stephanie a second by katie and then is there any um are there any questions or discussions on the list of coaches that have been presented i have a question um do um are all these uh folks they've all been coaches before for us every one of them with the exception of the person we just hired okay i just was one i wasn't sure about so okay thank you thank you thank you any other questions all right we have an extension from yeah i'm going to do a roll call so yeah all right exactly thanks um stephanie yes amy abstain aubry yes katie yes

less yes and my vote is yes okay thank you very much that concludes the business section of our agenda takes us to our last opportunity for public comment mike do we have any no there's no other public comment no thank you all right our next meeting will be monday march 8th and depending on the outcome of the update on february 21st uh jeff will keep us posted we'll either be virtual or in person and as we get closer to that you and i will probably need to discuss with of course conversation with the board venue distance you know where we're at so we'll wait until we see that next order because my understanding jeff is it won't be it's not our choice if they tell us we have to meet in person we have to

meet in person right we do have to meet in person but i think we can meet in an area that's comfortable for all of us as well yes yeah perfect thank you okay we are adjourned at 8 49 pm thank you all very much for your time this evening everyone have a good evening you
