Uh, now can you rise for the pledge of >> allegiance? I aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Okay. Can I get a motion to approve the consent or the agenda, please? >> I make a motion to approve the agenda as written. >> Support. >> And Madame President, I have a uh a removal part of the agenda under close session. If we could please remove the 8H to consider material exempt for from discussion or
002disclosure by state or federal statute. It's that end part of the closed session to remove it. >> Uh Heidi, can you amend your motion? Do you want to amend your motion? I make a motion to uh approve the agenda with the removal of with 8H close session. Retain support. >> Any other discussion? Roll call, please. >> Yes. >> Becker, >> yes. >> Fox, >> yes. Uh, okay. First special order of business, student of the month. We're going to start with United Oaks first due to a scheduling. >> Thank you. >> Leasia, come on up for me. Le Asia, you're going to go through and then you're going to shake hands. All right, Leasia, this was written on behalf of um actually Miss Ray wrote this for us, but we all fully fully fully support. I
003am honored to recognize Leazia Summers as the HP student of the month. She has been the picture of perseverance, dedication, and resilience in my time knowing her at United Oaks. Personally, I've had the pleasure of growing with Leasia for the past four years, one of them as her second grade teacher. Since then, I've watched her blossom into the radiant young lady that she is today. She works hard through challenges and never gives up on herself. She takes pride in her progress and helps to support and lift others around her. She deserves this honor immensely. I we are so proud of you and are truly grateful for your presence in our school community. Congratulations. Thank you. Okay. I don't believe my kiddo is here. Isaiah Hayes is our student of the month at Advantage School. He
004is a hard worker. He is eager to help his peers as well as staff. He has a positive attitude when facing challenges in and out of the classroom. He goes above and beyond basic requirements and truly cares about the future of his education. He's not I am here to honor the Jardan student of the month. He is not here. Um but James Connor continues to serve as a positive role model for his peers through his strong work ethic both at school and at his work-based learning placement at Meyer. He is consistently demonstrating respect toward his peers and staff and has continued to strengthen his vocational skills throughout the month of January. We are proud of his growth and dedication. Way to go, James. Come on up. There you go. We are proud to recognize McKenna
005Menses as our student of the month at Hazel Park Junior High School. McKenna consistently demonstrates what it means to be safe, responsible, and respect respectful each and every day. McKenna shows that she is safe by following school rules, making thoughtful choices, and encouraging her classmates to do the same. She helps create a positive environment where everyone feels comfortable and secure. She's responsible by coming to class prepared, completing her assignments on time, and always putting forth her best effort. McKenna takes ownership of her learning, and sets a great example for others. Most importantly, McKenna is respectful to her teachers, peers, and staff. She listens attentively, uses kind words, and treats everyone with fairness and consideration. Congratulations, McKenna. Thank you for representing Hazel Park Junior High School. Okay. Uh from Web Elementary, we have Josiah Hall. We're
006just going to ignore that sweatshirt he's wearing tonight. Um, Mrs. Samborn says, "Johiah demonstrates so many characteristics of leadership. As a fifth grader, he shows integrity and kindness everywhere he goes. Josiah is patient with his peers and goes above and beyond to be helpful around the school. As a learner, Josiah participates consistently in class discussions and puts his full effort into his work. He challenges challenges himself to try new math strategies, checks his understanding, and completes his work with detail. He is inquisitive, curious, and a critical thinker. Josiah is well-liked by his peers and is looked up to by many. We are truly enjoying having Josiah as a web wolf this year. Great job, Josiah. Good evening. Unfortunately, our our student is not here, but I'm very excited to tell you about Akira. Akira McNab
007is our student of the month from Webster. Akira has come out of his shell so much since the beginning of the year. His inquisitiveness and love of friends has allowed his vocabul vocabulary to explode these past few months. Akira comes to school with a huge smile on his face, ready to have fun. Um, he follows the expectations and loves to laugh with all his friends. Akira has shown curiosity in trying um new foods, which is a really big deal. Um and playing collaboratively with friends. Akira shows kindness, empathy, and concern to all he encounters at school. He has so shown so much interest in taking part in class activities as well. We love hearing all the new words, Akira says, and for his love of school. So, I'm going to step in for a few
008of our friends and I'm going to um do Hoover first grade. Aurora Donnelly Aurora is an absolute pleasure to have in class. Her excitement to learn new things is contagious. She's truly a little sponge soaking up every bit of information she can. As we studied and wrote about owls, I was constantly impressed. not only Aura's passion and desire to learn more and more, but also the way that her writing skills have developed and improved. She wrote an exemplary book, formational book that I will keep as an example in the future. In addition to being the hard worker, she's also extremely kind, courteous, and generous. She gets along well with her classmates and is always the first to offer a helping hand when one is needed. She is wonderful, well-rounded student, and we are so lucky to
009have her a part of our class. Congratulations, Aurora. I additionally have uh the high school Connor Thomas, 12th grade student at the high school. I don't see him here tonight. Miss Broaddsky says, "Conor is a strong, silent leader. He strives to do the best in everything that he does with the conscientious decisions. Connor is always willing to do whatever it takes to do the job well, and his integrity is strong. He consistently does the right thing, even if no one is watching. I cannot think of a more deserving student." Mr. Rubin added, "Conor is kind, thoughtful, and respectful. He's hardworking, organized, and a pleasure to be around." And finally, Miss Shirley writes, "Oh, Mr. Shirley, sorry. He might not like I said I called him Mrs. Um, Connor is always on time to class and
010ready to learn. He's a great student and a great person. Absolute pleasure to have in class." Let's give a hand. I'm gonna do Edison uh William Callahan. Nope. Okay. When thinking of a student who exemplifies what it means to be a student of the month, someone who works hard and perseveres through challenges comes to mind. William consistently demonstrates these qualities. He works very hard and is always willing to help others when they need support and does a great job advocating for himself by asking for help or requesting what he needs. William has recently transitioned to the middle school starting at level two. He was incredibly excited to begin this new chapter at that level and he set a personal goal to continue leveling up while in middle school. His determination, positive attitude, and commitment to
011growth truly make him deserving of the student of the month and I believe that is it. Oh, okay. Yeah, I just Um, >> do we have the junior high representative? Are they here? >> Nope. Okay, moving on. How about the high school representative? >> Nope. They had a practice. >> Advantage representative. >> We're about a thousand today. Um, let's hear it. Says high school representative here. All right, we're on to item F, web presentation. Welcome, Web. >> Hi, everyone. Um, I am going to turn this over to Khloe Heron. Khloe is our promise navigator and a former web wolf who has come back to join us as a promise navigator for community schools and she's doing a great job. I don't know how we would be implementing community schools without her. Her enthusiasm and organization
012has been tremendous and we wanted to kind of highlight some of the things that we're doing at web with community schools. So, I'm going to turn it over to Chloe who's a little nervous. Hi guys. Um I just am here to talk about what we've kind of been up to at Web with community schools. Um so, kind of just as an overview, we have eight active clubs going on right now. Um and then we have four active clubs starting soon. Um to date we have 175 kids that actively participate in all of our clubs. Um additionally we are also planning our next event which is books and burgers. Um that will be on March 25th if anybody wants to come. Um uh we're reducing barriers for families and kind of h guiding them and supporting
013them through it. Um we're supporting growth in learning, making sure families have their basic needs for a healthy and happy life. constantly checking attendance and coming up with ways to support families to get their kids to school. Um, and we're constantly stocking and providing items in our care closet. And we just want to give students a safe, fun, and supportive environment so all students can thrive. Um, so jumping in our to our science night that we just held, um, we had Cranbrook set up 14 interactive stations all around our gym. We had about 90 students in attendance, so about 45 families. Um during this time we also showcased our student projects all around our school. Um and families were able to eat dinner, look at their child's hard work, and do activities related to what
014they were learning in class. So first for our clubs, we have our first club that started at web, which was running club, which was about first and fifth grade. Um it was run by our amazing PE teacher, Miss Blumkey. Um she used a kids marathon software, so it tracked their miles and their times. Um we had 25 students actively participate in this every week. Um and she is also doing right now a girls running club and a third grade running club. Um Play Labs was also one of the first clubs we started at web. Um we partnered with Michigan stage. Um and students were be able to create their own play. So there is no scripts allowed for more room for creativity. Um we had 11 students participate in this and their performance was on
015December 19th of 2025. Um, next we have recorder club. So that was ran by Miss Fox. We have 15 students that actively participate. They performed at our holiday concert and they put together some birthday songs for our Monday morning meetings and some other stuff. That's really nice to see all the students hard work. Um, we have life clubs. So that is run by Miss Tomkins. Um, we have 23 students in the third through fifth grade life club and 11 students in the K through 2 grade life club. Um, this is where they are able to learn about the Bible freely, do crafts, and sing. and it's honestly a really fun time for all the kids to enjoy. Um, next we have reading clubs. So, this is also run by Miss Tomkins. Um, we had 10
016actually join the first half and then she opened it up again for 20 students in total. Um, they do independent reading in the med media center and Miss Tommpkins kind of conferences with students and helps them if they struggle and this this way they're able to gain reading log hours while also getting help if they need it. for our talent show that we do every year that is run by Miss Platt and Miss Wilkins. Um we had 11 students join and participate and their performance was on February 12th which was really cool and they showcased all their talents from singing, dancing, magic, we had it all. So, for a culinary club that is run by Miss Sap and Miss Krill from Chartwells, um 14 students actively participate every week and they learn how to cook
017with hands-on experience and learn how to safely use kitchen equipment and properly clean spaces. For our zoo club, um we partnered with the Detroit Zoo and it was also kind of paired with um Miss Bolinsky and Miss Tommpkins. We had 22 students join and they all really loved it. They learned all about birds and they did crafts. They were watching videos, reading books. They even, it was nicer outside at the time. They were going outside flying their little birds. It was pretty cool. Um, next we have kind of tutoring. So, our first session was run by Miss Hazen, our fifth grade teacher. Um, and now we have a new tutoring starting up ran by Miss Litridge, which is our CI teacher. Um, we have about five students in each session to kind of target more
018of the kids um with exactly what they need help with. Um, and it provides more on one more one-on-one time to promote growth. Um, they really find it helpful. They're really getting used to it and um, seems to be working and thriving and having them thrive in their classroom. Next, we have YMCA Sport, which is in collaboration with Y on the Fly Metro Detroit. It's every other Thursday and there's about 25 students every Thursday that switches rosters. Um it keeps the students active while having fun. And this runs throughout the whole year and the kids absolutely love it. So just kind of more of how I'm helping families. Um I was able to give four students from Web Elementary School um the opportunity to shop with a hero. So we partnered with partnering with um
019police and fire all around the um surrounding cities and they went to Meyer and got like a $100 limit and got to spend it on whatever they wanted. Um, I'm also actively stocking our care closet and web with hygiene, um, clothing and everything that you can think of just so I have hands-on stuff to help with families. Um, I also do a lot of flu food delivery. Um, some of our families really that struggle or have a food insecurity also don't have transportation. So, I willingly go and drop off some food to to them just to get them by for the week. Um, I'm also able I have a lot of families who also struggle with transportation. So if they're in Hazel Park district, I am able to get them on the bus. Um and
020I'm overall I'm just really helping families with any barriers that they may face and also just guiding them through it. So next thing our big is big on our list is attendance. Um we meet with a small team um to brainstorm ways we can support families to get to school. Um, we come up with ideas on how to support all three attendance tiers and we're rewarding perfect attendance for the first half of the school year with a donut, breakfast, certificates, and ribbons. Um, I'm also actively supporting for attendance, supporting families through any barriers that could stop them beyond transportation and showing families that we love having their kids at school and the importance at of school. And that is it. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Thanks everyone. And as you can see, Chloe's doing
021a great job at that. She's a busy girl. >> Okay. >> Um, >> may I ask a question? I mean, say something. This was a wonderful presentation. Thank you so much. Thank you. >> I was just wondering um if this since it's so wonderful if this could be placed on their website under the web somewhere where um you know where it could under a quick link or something because it's was well done and I appreciate it. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Um I have no one for public comment on anybody. All right. Moving on to the consent agenda. Can I get a motion to approve the consent agenda? >> I move the board of education approve the consent agenda as written. >> Support. Any discussion? Roll call, please. Deon, >> yes. Um, new business item
022A, teacher and two prayer professionals at Webster Early Childhood Center. >> I move that the board of education approved the hiring of a teacher and two prayer professionals at Webster Early uh, Early Childhood Center. >> Support discussion roll call please. I'm sorry. April. >> Thank you, Fox. Yes. >> Yes. >> Fortress. >> Yes. >> Um policy second reading. Can I get a motion? >> I move that the board of education approve the second reading of the policies provided by Miller Johnson as presented. >> Support. Uh discussion. Um, I'm going to vote yes for this, but I just want to noted that I'm I I still think there's work to be done on the policy for the fund balance. I reviewed um other districts fund balance that Miller Johnson does and they're very detailed. So, I
023just I'd like to revisit that, but for the sake of moving these forward, I'm going to vote yes. Any other discussion? >> Um, I do think that there's more work to be done, but I also think policies are kind of a work in progress because there should always be changing. So, um, roll call, please. >> Yes. >> Item C, salt purchase. I move that the board of education approve the purchase of 50 tons of salt at a cost not to exceed $17,50 as presented. >> Support discussion. >> I just I wasn't here at the committee of the whole so I was not part of the discussion. I'm just curious um 50 tons of salt is a lot. Are we storing it here? Are we storing it at the city? >> No, that this is truly
024our we offered to go in collaboratively. that was not um agreed to. So, this is behind web. Um and it takes about five tons each time we do our whole district. >> Do we have do we have somewhere to store it? >> We do. We have a salt salt shed back there. >> Awesome. Thank you. >> Yeah, that was fast. >> All right. The enhanced millage resolution. >> Wait, we didn't. Sorry. >> Roll call, please. >> Yes. Yes. >> Yes. >> Now the enhancement village resolution. >> I move that board of education approve the enhancement mill resolution as presented. >> Second. >> Do we need to read it? >> We do. >> Do we have it? >> Yeah. >> Yes. >> Like grab a grab a drink if you need. >> Who wants to read
025it? >> Uh I can read it. It's just long. Uh the follow oh >> the following preamble and resolution were offered by member >> routine and supported by member >> fortress. Uh whereas section 705 of the revised school code of 1976 as amended. Section 705 provides for the levy of a regional enhancement property tax by an intermediate school district at a rate not to exceed 3 mills for the purpose of enhancing other state and local funding for local school operating purposes. if approved by a majority of the intermediate school district electors. And whereas Oakland County residents deserve the opportunity to provide competitive educational opportunities and similar resources to those available in the neighboring counties of Wayne and Mcome. And whereas the board of education has determined that it is in the best interest of the school district to allow voters an opportunity to consider a ballot proposal that enhances educational opportunities by requesting the Oakland Schools Intermediate School District Oakland Schools to submit a regional enhancement mill proposal to the electors at the school election on August 4th, 2026 in accordance

Five, all resolutions and parts of resolutions in so far as they conflict with the provisions of this resolution be and the same hereby are rescended. Any discussion? Um, I just want to point out that this is just to go on the ballot. We're making resolutions to say that we would see it on the ballot and people still get to vote for it. Yes. >> Uh, roll call. >> Yes. >> Eaton. >> Yes. >> Fox. >> Yes. >> No problem.
030>> Yes. Motion carries six to zero, which they all did. I didn't forgot to say that all time. Um, item E, secondary grading and report card task force. I move that the board of education approve the $19,440 for staff compensation to support the work of the secondary grading and report card task force. support >> discussion. I was a little a bit confused when I read this over because I don't understand why we're paying um I understand why we're paying teachers additional but I was concerned um why we're paying counseling staff administration and curriculum instructors because to me this is part of should be rolled up into their job and we're paying based on the amount that was given in the summary uh 6750 per hour with benefits to these employees. is >> sorry I was
031bit confus >> I'm I'm going to let Dr. to ask answer that. It's >> okay. >> I'm sorry. It was confusing about administrators. So, no, our administrators would not be getting that amount. >> Okay. >> It's really focused on our teachers and counselors are part of the HPA contract and for any work they do outside of the school day, they are um required to pay for that. So uh given the fact that having this work done during the school day is quite challenging because our guest teacher uh situation it's always challenging to do that. Plus we want those qualified professionals in front of students during the day that we try to do this outside of the school day and during the summer. >> Any other discussion? >> Roll call please. >> Yes. >> Becker. >>
032Yes. Yes. No problem. >> Uh, no. I prefer this get pushed off a little while, but motion carries 5 to zero or 5 to one, sorry. Um, we have the audit services item F. >> I move that the board of education approve the payment of the UHY audit fees in the amount not to exceed $124,537.50 50 cents for the 2425 audit as presented. >> I second the motion >> discussion. >> Yes. Um unfortunately Monica is not able to be here this evening as she had a medical procedure that needed to be taken care of. Um so this bill was sent to me. Uh this bill is because things weren't done in a timely manner and uh they had to go back and redo and redo uh adjusting the accounting um items uh which we discussed
033about along the way which is why an additional person was requested before. Um unfortunately um also Monica did not get the information that she needed until the June time frame. I wasn't quite aware that it was going to be this much. They did write off another 30,000 but this is something to consider as we are looking at a auditor and and the cost um I was asked what the cost was last year and what was given to me is um 1214 oh wait a minute >> last year being 2324 >> 2324 we have to hold on this is so 2324 what were you getting ready to say was it wrong same amount um oh I don't have that okay and then plant manoran And we have 73,000 for the year 2223. What was it? 121
034for 232 24. >> That's what I thought it was, but I know it was for two years with plant man. The way I ran it. >> Well, plant maran wasn't here. Um, uh, did our audit last year, >> right? Last year. I don't have the total amount in front of me. I thought I did. We went over this Jamie over because it is confusing, right, when you're running these time frames. So, um, I thought it was about the same amount, but I'll have to get back to you. I thought I had that. I do not. >> Okay. When you say last year, you mean two years ago. >> Um, yes, >> We're approving last year's and then the other one was the year before. Yes. >> Okay. >> So, we're approving 2425. >> Yes. >>
035Any other discussion? >> Um, some of these invoices are quite old going back to September. I'm just kind of curious on the delay in getting them paid and processed. >> Uh they weren't set. Um I'd have to go back to look to see. I received this just a couple weeks ago with this total item here. They weren't sent to me. I'd have to look to see if they were sent any other places. And so Amber reached out to me to make sure that they were paid. And thus I then had a a follow-up conversation with her about the cost. And she explained that why. Um and uh yeah, so I just received this overall bill and uh that it was not paid in time. I know last year we had a lot of conversation about
036the cost of the audit and this is well over double if you consider the fact that they wrote off $30,000. >> Yes. We were we were advised that this was not going to happen and I I just there's concern there on why it's happening still. Uh well, I can give you several reasons. First of all, I was not here when that went through, but I did go back and review the contract and the contract said additional hours will be at an additional cost. So, the contract that this board approved and that was in the packet simply stated that I wasn't here during that time. But unfortunately, preparation for an audit has to begin well before June to have things finished. And that's why we also asked for that position several times because we needed somebody
037to reconcile. That's something that came up in the Oakland schools. It also came up in the Donobe and we now have additional person per person. These are things I think that you want to look into the contract that you sign uh when we make a recommendation for an auditor about how that's done. they at no point in time said, "Hey, this is going to be double the amount." They called to say, "In order to get this done on time because the items weren't reconciled um that we were going to spend additional money. Um but that happened several times where the books had to go be back and get corrected. So um while I think it's very unfortunate and you're absolutely correct, it's much more money. Um, we've got to have the right staff in place
038in order to do that. And Monica really needed the books in J in January to get things going in the right direction. >> So, are you telling me that the bookkeeper has been hired? >> Yes. I think you weren't here for that. The bookkeeper has been hired and he's been here three weeks. >> Yes. >> Oh, I didn't see him on the hire list in the last meeting. >> I think he was last. last one in June. >> Okay. >> Uh in January. >> January. January. >> Yeah. >> June. January. Same thing. Middle. >> I know. I'm just >> Yeah. So, he's come in and um I think we we talked about it. He uh is doing a great job. >> Really getting acclimated. Has some good experience and uh is very incredibly positive and
039brought donuts his first week afterwards. Thanking us for making it through the week. >> Any other discussion? Roll call, please. >> Yes. >> Fox, >> yes. >> Beaten, >> yes. >> Becker, >> yes. >> Brown, >> yes. >> Uh, softball overnight action item G. >> I move that the board of education approve the overnight softball trip at a cost not to exceed $5,022 as presented. >> I second the motion. >> Discussion. >> Yeah, I apologize that this wasn't to you to the committee of the whole. We got this afterwards, but given the time frame, it's important we approve this now. And so we bring this uh before you um for the dance team overnight. >> This is for the softball overnight. >> Um >> discussion. Sorry. >> I would like them to um fund raise
040at least $2,000 towards this. We asked that the drama fundraised towards their event. Um, so I would like to do the same for the softball team. >> So it was $100 per student uh for the drama. Could we consider a change of that so that it's equal in the same $100 per student? >> Well, this is 130. If you divide, if you take out the um chaperones and just factor in the students, it's about $2,000 is about $133. I don't see that would be a difficult fundraiser for them to do. I have to say that this is a little amount compared to some other things like we paid thousands for football jerseys and things like that when we had so many of them. And this is like an amazing experience to go to a college.
041>> Yeah. But >> I'm not saying that we shouldn't have them fund raise if they can, but I don't think putting a dollar amount like I think we should ask them to try and fund raise just like we did for football. We asked them to try and fund raise to help lower the cost. We didn't give football an amount. >> I agree. Going forward, I maybe we can write into the proposal that uh the expectation is to hopefully do some fundraising with the thought that we will cover the rest of the cost. Um but yeah, I'm I'm I don't know about setting a hard number on that what they need to fund raise, but uh I'm not opposed to promoting fundraising. So did because I don't remember that long ago. Did we set a hard
042number for for drama or did we just say >> we did it was $100 per student of which they raised and I transferred I sent a letter and we transferred out of their activities account into the general fund. >> Mhm. >> So are we asking or when you started to talk were you asking that we request $100 this student >> um this one as well? My suggestion was $100 per student to be equitable to what we did with drama on their trip. >> I just feel I'm just I know this might sound mean, but like I just feel like the drama club is different than our sporting. >> It's not. It's still an extra activity, extracurricular activity. I don't think $100 is unreasonable. >> So then we would have to change the motion. Correct. >>
043I'm not changing my motion. I would I think it would be great if they could fund raise. I'm not willing to make it mandatory. I mean, we have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on things that don't touch students at all to tell kids that we're not going to pay $5,000 for them to go on a school trip. I I think it would be great if they could fund raise. I would love for this amount to be less than 5,000, but my motion isn't not to exceed. If it's lower, that's great. If it's not, that's fine, too. I'm not amending my motion. >> And and my question is, what are they going to fund raise? can't do candy bars because that's against the rules in the schools. Um, you're not doing fruitcakes. Uh, oranges aren't
044there anymore like the band used to sell or the nuts. >> That's all still there. Darren, there's a lot of fundraisers. You can do a restaurant fundraiser. You can do a bottle drive. My son when he went, they did a bottle drive to for his trip overseas during CO and three kids participated. They got over $4,000. Well, that's why I'm asking because I just >> It's easy. It's just making them put a little effort into >> I I just don't know the fundraising. >> It's making them accountable. >> So, I just That's what I just asked, you know. >> Yeah, there's a lot of fundraisers out there that they can do. >> Okay. So, the motion on the floor is asis and it's supported. So, we're going to vote on that motion since she's not
045changing it. So, can I get a roll? Any other discussion? I don't mean to copy block. Nope. All right. Roll call, please. >> Yes. >> Fox, >> yes. >> Becker, >> yes. >> No. >> Yes. I move that the board of education approve the dance team overnight and travel to the national competition in Cincinnati, Ohio as presented. >> Second the motion. >> You can have it there. >> That's it. All right. Just so I write it down correctly. >> I for discussion just that there is no cost associated with this. We're just providing the permission. >> But why not? It's our kids. We have dancers. Why are we not giving the money to
046because the parents pay for it all year round. That's part of the uh program that that they have figured in the cost. >> Well, it's not part of the program to send 15 students to a camp for for um baseball. I mean, >> and we're supposed >> We want to give them money. Let's give them money. >> Madam President, I think there's a motion on the table. >> Yep. I just Any more discussion? Did you say uhhuh or no? >> No. >> Okay. Um, roll call, please. >> Yes. Motion carries six to zero. Item I, the football helmet purchase. I move the board of education approve the purchase of uh football helmets not to exceed $10,691 as presented. Support >> discussion. >> So, it's important to get this in front of you ASAP because there
047is a discount uh till the end of the month on these helmets. So, we wanted to get to you. Um, I while I would like you to approve this, we also found out today that they actually may owe us a a refund and this may cost us nothing, but I need to double check some paperwork on that first. >> Nothing is good. >> Nothing is always good. Free is good for me. >> Now, this is just replacing helmets that we have to, correct? >> Yes. >> Any other discussion? All right. Roll call, please. Gorgeous. >> Yes. >> Beaton, >> yes. >> Becker, >> yes. >> Fox, >> yes. >> Um, item J, 2026 MP annual conference. I move the board of education approve the attendance of the 2026 MP annual conference March 4th through the
0486th at the Double Tree Hilton and Bay City Riverfront not to exceed $795. >> I second the motion. >> Who's going? >> This is for um Chuck um for the communication uh conference. >> Okay. Any other discussion? >> Roll call, please. >> Yes. >> Motion carry six to zero. Item K, CTE training overnight action item. I move the board of education approve the estimated budget of $2555 for one staff member to attend the 2026 ITW welding instruction conference >> support discussion. Um this is I I think I outlined this um in much detail in the memo, but this is something that our CTE instructors are required to do on an annual basis and all of this is funded through the CTE grants. They are required to do this type of training to keep their certification.
049>> All right. Anything else? Roll call, please. >> Yes. Fox, >> yes. >> Richie, >> yes. >> Item L, MSBO conference. Can I get a motion for the MSBO conference? >> I move that the board of education approve the attendance of the conference for Bradley Wilkins, Monica Papazion, Crystal Mer Merbart Murb. Oh, I'm so sorry. >> All right, you tried. >> Uh, Christy Kales at no at cost not to exceed $4,880. support >> discussion. >> Oh, did we second? I'm sorry, I missed it. >> I think Monica said it. >> Okay. Um, so, uh, this is the conference where they continue to work on their certifications in that area. I just got a little whisper from the side that Julie Drew will be going as well. She got a scholarship to attend. So, guess again,
050Heidi, free is good for me. >> Yes. and um and so we're excited to continue to grow our staff and make sure that they're up to date with all the current uh information and current certifications through MSBO. >> I have a question. Uh could I receive a uh report back from Bradley Wilkins regarding um where he went and what he did? >> Sure. >> Of course. Of course. I'm just joking. >> Only Brad. >> He's super Oh, I was going to say he's super excited in order to do that. Of course. I'm just joking. >> I have a quick question. Since now more people are going, >> is the hotel going to Oh, it's so the overall cost going to increase. >> Will there the separate rooms? Julia be rooming with me and she goes
051off. So, no. >> Okay. I just wanted to make sure that we keep our motion or change it accordingly >> because our motion originally was for three admin at the same cost. One, two, three, four. >> I know, but our original motion says three admin to attend >> and then we got a thing to add >> add one but the price didn't change. So we just for >> Is that what you're trying to clarify, Debbie? >> Yes. That the cost is going to be 36.60. >> It's 4880. >> 4880. >> Yep. >> Okay. So I have the old one. >> Okay. So the motion is for 4880. >> Yep. Any other discussion? >> Yeah, it's a great conference. I've been there myself and it's very helpful. >> Perfect. Anybody else? >> All right. Roll call,
052please. >> Yes. >> I'm always all in for training. So, yes. So, uh, motion car 36 to zero. Close session for 8C. Can I get a motion? >> I move that the board of education recess into the close session 8C for strategy and negotiation sessions connected with the negotiation of a collective bargaining agreement. If either negotiating party requests a closed hearing. Anybody supporting it? >> I support. >> Thank you. Any discussion? >> Roll call, please. >> Yes. Motion carries 6 to zero. >> Um move to go to close session. I make a motion that we go into full session. I was going to say ON THE PAPER AGAIN. >> YOU KNOW, YOU had me confused there. It should not be that long. I don't want the motion return from full second. >> Second. >> Roll
053call. >> Yes. >> Fortress. >> Yes. G. >> Yes. >> Okay. Request for future agenda items. >> Actually, superintendent report >> that's down here. I'm sorry. The paper you gave me, it was down here, but okay. We got a superintendent report. >> Is that all right? Okay. So, I did give you some enrollment pictures again. I know you liked them before to kind of show you the ins and outs that are happening within the district. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. And I also will continue to encourage you uh to come and set up a time to meet with me personally with any questions you have about what we're doing, how we're going about it, contracts, anything along those lines. I'm happy to do it. I already have one member
054that is meeting with me shortly on that. Um the fundraisers are in there. We also want to acknowledge our MASB 2025 individual board award recipients. Bev Hitten has a level five Master Diamond Award. Bev Hitton has a level four master board member award. Heidi has the data skills specialty award and Monica Rerti has the data skills specialty award. So congratulations to our board members who continue to take classes and um grow and and learn and and challenge all of us. So thank you. Um, our ADK uh grant winner for January provides um ADK provides a $50 monthly awards to support innovation in classroom projects and enhance student learning. Sue Watts was the winner this month and so congratulations to her for her dedication for creating an engaging supportive learning environments for Hazel Park schools. I'm
055going to go down a list of things that we have going on and another list of some items and if I miss some then uh I think my partner on the right is going to jump in to grab them because we've got a lot of great things going on with our community schools and and in Hazel Park schools. First of all, there was an ask about um the pay for Don Soie that um will go in next week when we pay bills. We pay every other week and last week we had several people out of the office on mid- winter break. Um, our yonder pouch parent meeting is tomorrow night at 6 o'clock. Um, as of next week, uh, junior high and high school will be using the yonder pouches. So, we have a parent
056meeting tomorrow night and of course, uh, that we're ready to answer any questions you have. Um, Dr. Kaminsky and Mr. Deus has been working collaboratively to set up a a system to put in place. I talked with them today and they're really taking charge and Dr. Domage has been working with them as well to guide through and make sure those items get where they need to be and and we move. There will be hiccups. There will be some difficulties, but they'll get through it. There will be kids that will bring a second phone and we will find it when we wand them and um there'll be some things to go along the way, but for the most part, I think what you're going to find is what we found at Advantage. And in these stories
057that we're hearing across the country where removal of technology is really helping. As a matter of fact, there was an article this week about a school district up north that's removing all technology and going back to paper and pencil and not having uh technology and Chromebooks back in the in the classroom. So, we'll see where that research kind of goes. We in education, we swing to one way and then we always swing back another and sometimes land in the middle. Um the semi-truck is at the junior high, the STEM truck. Um you've probably seen that when you went by. We're really excited uh to have that out there. Thank you, Dr. Dolman, for getting that through the teaching and learning again for us. It's always exciting to see the eyes of our kids when they
058go in that. It is a multi-million dollar uh semi that Oakland schools has put together to help kids imagine and dream about what what it can be in the future and what it is. So, it's pretty wonderful as well. Um, community school night at Longfellow this week, Thursday from 6:00 to 7:00, we have an African-American reader that'll be super excited. So, everybody's welcome to come and join and be a part of that and and come visit Longfellow. Um, so that's our community school one. We also have the Promise Zone annual auction, Race to College at 5:30 on March 3rd. I hope you've bought your tickets and ready to join us, if not a basket. Um, but we're really looking forward to continuing to raise dollars to do the great things that we're doing for kids.
059And um, it's about time for Fernando to come back and share some of the great things that are happening as well. And I'm hearing a lot about students getting accepted into college and where they're going and what they're doing. And love for some of them to come and share that with all of you. Beetlejuice is already sold out for Friday night and uh Saturday night on the 6th and the 7th. So, the only date we just opened up March 5th. So, if you haven't bought your tickets, you better buy it for Thursday because the other ones are gone. Um I know I bought uh I was able to buy Friday night um this morning and then I saw later on that they're sold out so there was very few left. Um so, jump on those
060now if you want to go see Beetlejuice. It's got a lot of kids involved and um I'm always thrilled to see the exciting new things that they continue to do. Want to remind the community and all of you as well that the strategic planning survey is out. Um I'm hoping Chuck will be able to get out another um thing on uh website and out um on our social media. So like a QR code that everybody can go in to try to if you haven't done it. We're kind of stuck at 99 individuals that have responded. So if you haven't done it, please do it. If you need information, send me an email. will get you that link. We also have April 25th the strategic um planning day uh where we'll be developing the three girl
061three goals, not three girls, um and the mission and the vision and see if there's any changes. Um if you're interested in participating, please let me know. We're at about 25 and I haven't added my administrative staff yet and so we're about at the number of of what he's looking for, but if we've got some other people, we do have some community members and we have teachers and we have some administrators that are there to join us as well. So, that's some really great stuff going on. Um, this Saturday, our senior class has vendor and rummage sales. Um, it's by our 2026 group at Web. So, if you are looking for some things or looking for some arts and crafts, I think they are filled up as well. This is kind of their final push
062to help balance um some costs for our seniors, for the all night party, for the senior breakfast, and and also for prom. Um the only thing is I would like to make sure that um uh folks know that we are open Monday from at Longfellow open from 8 to 2 for walkers. So the miles without mittens um if it's it's starting to get cold again. Um and we've had a couple walkers come through. Be nice to get a walking club going over there. Um, it was Monday it's 8 to 2. Wednesday and Friday it's 8 to 4. We also have cards uh senior cards, but you don't have to be a senior. If you're home and looking for something to do, that's on Tuesday from noon to 3. We had a rousing game of King's
063Corner. We learned a game named 7 or called 7 um and played. It was big fun. And so, um, come on over tomorrow at noon to to 3. And, um, if you're looking for something to do, our welcome area is also open if you, uh, want to bring a some some knitting over or read a book or do a book club with a friend. Um, come on over to the welcome area. And, um, that's all at Longfellow. >> We'll be bringing, uh, to you next month some recommendations for room rentals. you have people that are wanting to rent to the gym and some of those other community spaces. We also will be bringing you some conversation about a philanthropic um medical organization that treats families or treats adults without insurance that is interesting in leasing
064space there and redeveloping that space for um for a clinic in there as well. So, some pretty exciting stuff happening. >> I had a question. Somebody asked me about the walking club. Where do they walk? Do they walk around the gym? Do they walk the halls? Do they walk in the rooms? I'm like, I don't know. >> Um, actually, they've been just walking the halls. You know, the hallway is very long, so you get a nice brisk pace and they've been walking the halls. I did have um a couple parents bring kids over. >> Oh, nice. >> Um during the break and they they, you know, kind of walked the gym and played around. So Oh, nice. Um, but mostly they walk the halls back and it's unfortunately it's not a circle. It's it's an
065L, but you can get a pretty good pace going um if you're walking. They're very long hallways. >> So, good question though. >> Thank you. >> Hours of the welcome area. >> Um, uh, same as the we're open um on Monday 8 to 2 only because I have a meeting here and I can't be there to open the door. um 8 to 4 on Wednesday and Friday, Monday. Um and then I am there on card day. So, Tuesday from noon to 3. >> I might want to bring my crochet. >> Please. >> That's awesome. >> That'd be great. Grab a friend. >> And we know over time as we develop this and have rentals that we will have more that we do. So, that's it from us. All right. I'd like to make a motion
066to expedite payment to UHY and school municipal advisory services to have them paid by the end of this week. We have contracts with both of them and uh is majority is over 60 days old. So I would like to see those expedited. >> Is there support for the motion? >> I'll support Um, I just want you to know that uh the net pulls our staff off of the other things that they're having to do on those opposite weeks when you're asking to run special runs and this is the kind of stuff that distracts them from what they're doing. They received Don so just I believe at the beginning of last week and I had been asking for it monthly to give us a monthly one like the board of education had directed me. So it's
067it's not been delayed. It's in the normal run. So and uh they know that it's coming as well next week. Any other discussion? Okay. Roll call. >> Yes. >> The problem. >> Yes. >> Um, uh, is a billion dollar corporation that I'm not necessarily inclined to take our singular staff off of their regular work for. No. >> Uh, yeah. I don't think that It's our role to nitpick every payment. Um I'm confident that our staff will get it taken care of. So I'm also in fact >> no. >> All right. Motion fails. Two to four. 4 to two. Um all right. Where am I at now? Request for future agenda items. Could I just for a moment we do have a um a workshop next week. We don't really have a topic unless the board
068has a topic. Um that would free you up to only have two meetings instead of three this month. >> Oh no, that would be great for me, especially with next week. >> I'll miss you. >> But that I leave that to the board. >> Okay. >> So, >> do I have to make a motion because it's on our calendar of events? >> Probably. Should I make a motion to cancel next Monday's workshop? >> Support. We don't have a topic. There's no need to come in. >> There's a motion and a support. >> I remember. I'm sorry. >> Okay. >> Any discussion? >> Roll call, please. >> Fox, >> yes. >> Deon, >> yes. Becker, >> Yes. Motion carries six to nothing. Um, >> calendar dates. >> I think we gave you those. >> All right.
069I have nothing in public comment, so we're good. Okay. And now we did the superintendent report. Any board or member or administrative comments? So, I know um Dr. Wilcox said a lot of things I probably was going to say about the Promise and some things coming up, but I do want to remind everyone the Promise Zone dinner is next Tuesday at 5:30 at the gazebo. We do still have some tickets available if you're interested. Um our some of our drama students are going to be MCing, which I think is super awesome because they have their play also next week. So, they're taking time out. They've been meeting with Fernando and I. We gave them like some fun facts and some little things to play off on. Um, so I am super excited to see how
070that turns out. Um, let's see. Oh, um, I did want to say so today, um, there was a beautiful service for one of our, uh, principal's husbands, and I just want us all to keep her and her family in our thoughts and prayers. And then um last Thursday I emailed President Hinton about the close session that got pulled today because I kind of feel like some of us are blindsided and I still have had zero response from her. So I'm just struggling with whether hidden agendas or things being not to the whole board. And I would really like that to be more known out there. We can't be together as seven if no one's going to be honest with each other. Um, and dance comp is March 7th at states and it's their last home
071competition and it is all day long. So, if anyone can make it that would be amazing. >> What day did you say? Sorry. >> March 7th. >> Okay. >> That's why the play is at the junior high because >> have some conflict. >> That's it. >> Uh, as always, I love seeing the students of the month here. They're they're great. Uh you can tell some of them are more comfortable than others, but we it's great to see them recognized and you know we're proud of them. Uh I'll echo a strategic plan survey. Please do that. Everybody, staff, community, students, everybody do it. Be honest. Please. This is this is important work that we're doing. Try try and move forward. Uh the web presentation was great. That was It's great to see all the great, you
072know, activities and extracurriculars that uh are being provided to our students. Um that's all I have. >> Can I say one more thing real quick? I'm sorry. Um he talked about the strategic plan. So like a week week and a half ago, Nate and I were the only ones that showed up for the community day and we do want to hear what the community has to say. So whether you don't want to come in or not, please fill out that survey. We were the only ones here for the community tonight and it's very important like our voices aren't the only ones and we want to hear from you. >> I hear everything. Um I wasn't here last meeting. Um so I'd like to thank the staff for um board appreciation gifts. Those were very nice
073and very unexpected. So I appreciate you guys and uh see you in a couple weeks. anything? >> I would just like to thank uh the Promise Zone, the school board, Dr. Wilcox, and Monica for doing the student of the month program. Um I think it's a it's a well-deserved program for the students. It just takes me back every time I see it back in the old Hazel Hero time when we used to do that in the in the studio. Um, and also thank you for everyone for participating tonight. I appreciate it. And I know most of you are at home, but still nice that you're there and the few people that are here. Thank you. >> Um, I would just say because now we know that we're not coming back until the 9th. Um, it
074is February, but it's the end of February. March is reading month. Uh, check with your school, check with your library. Um, everybody has some really great presentations that are going on, really good opportunities for, uh, free books to learn more about, um, things that are happening, readalongs. U, I'm sure it'll be in all of our newsletters. But we are nothing without literacy and comprehension. So, take advantage of those really cool things that are going to be coming up. Read 30 minutes every day. Uh, okay. And I'm just going to talk about I went to Washington DC a couple weeks ago and uh I learned a lot. There's some stuff coming down the pipe that may or may not pass for law. Uh one of the things that I was idea funding which is a 50year-old
075law that they said they're going to fund 40% and they fund like 15 >> 13. Okay. it changes worsely. >> And so, um, the push was always for that, although I never think we're ever going to get that. Um, there's a new law about that the schools have to provide home-cooked meals and um changes to the you can serve whole milk. However, the calories in whole milk will make the meal far exceed the calorie limit that you're allowed to have. I didn't know there was so many regulations. Um, and many schools are not equipped with kitchens to make those meals. So, we're asking um we asked for additional funding of a dollar per meal and longer time because if some schools have to build kitchens, they can't do it by September. Um, what else? There
076was like five or six things that we discussed with our representatives and our senators and it was very educational for me. I had a wonderful uh experience and I would do it again next year and and I have been sending staff to the board because I don't always have a good memory. Um anybody else? Motion to adjurnn.
