001I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Next item is roll call. >> Rebecca Chamblas >> here. >> Carlos Harp >> here. >> Mary Harp >> absent with notice. >> Cindy Holder >> here. >> Mark Kimell >> absent with notice. >> Pstera McAlpine Taylor >> here. >> Gloria Thompson >> here. Next up, public fundamentals. Public fundamentals of the fundamentals with public comments. Public input is a vital part of how Madison school Madison district public schools operates. The board of education values hearing from the parents, staff, and community members because these perspectives help guide the district towards achieving its mission. A period known as public comment is set aside at every board of

002education meeting. This time allows parents and community members to share their thoughts, ideas, and concerns about school related topics directly with the board. Anyone wishing to speak must complete a request form and submit it to the board secretary before the meeting begins. Each speaker is allotted three minutes. Comments that follow these guidelines are accepted and considered by the board. Public comment is more than formality. Is one of the ways the board gathers input to make decisions in the best interest of students. Community voices help shape policies, programs, and priorities that support student success. While board members cannot respond to comments or engage in dialogue during meetings, concerns may be referred to the appropriate administrator for followup. The board also works with district staff to ensure the community questions and suggestions are addressed. This collaborative collaboration

003between the board and the public strengthens our ability to fulfill our mission to provide a rigorous curriculum that engages every student regardless of their current academic level in a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for all students. Um, I'm going to open this to anyone on the board. Do we have any public comments? >> No. >> All right. None have been submitted. Very good. Right. Next up, presentation of awards. Good evening. So, tonight is the last board meeting of the 2526 school year where we will have kids in session. and we want to take this opportunity to honor staff and we're gonna start with honoring our retirees. So, if I could have Megan Gates and Brian Morowski please come to the podium. So, first we would like to honor Megan Gates. So, in recognition of your

00429 years of service here with Madison District Public Schools, we want to take this opportunity to say thank you for the lives you've changed, the lives you touch, and also for just being here and being for our students and our families. So, thank you for all you've done. Thank you. and to Mr. Morowski. This marks 39 years of service with Madison District Public Schools. Mr. Morowski started out as a coach and he has been here with us through the thick, thin, and everything. And we just want to say thank you for your commitment, not only to our students, for educating them, but also being that softball coach that they've always loved and admired. So, thank you for all you've done for Madison. Thank you. And go. >> I'll fix it. I'm sorry. >> Pictures. >>

005Can we get a couple pictures of the retirees? >> Okay. Horse. Come on in. >> Yeah, you guys in the middle. Yeah, >> we're we're in the middle. >> Congratulations. Thank you. Early childhood center. All right, I fold Sarah. >> Um, it's my privilege to recognize our staff member of the year, Sarah Willilhoy. Throughout the year, Sarah has consistently demonstrated dedication, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to student success. Her positive attitude, willingness to support colleagues, and ability to create a welcoming and engaging learning environment have made a lasting impact on our school community. Whether inspiring students in the classroom, collaborating with fellow staff members, or going above and beyond to meet the needs of others, Sarah exemplifies the quality of an outstanding educator. Her passion for teaching and unwavering commitment to excellence serve as an

006example for us all. And I won't go through everything. I'll just take a couple sentences. Um she's an incredible asset to our early childhood center as she brings a rare mix of professional excellence and genuine heart to our GSRP program. She has a wonderfully gentle patient approach that instantly puts both children and parent anxious parents at ease. Um Sarah is the epitome of the Madison motto of daily striving to be 1% better than the day before. Sarah is a loving, supportive, respectful, dependable, dedicated, and responsible person. She's grateful to work with you. I bet you couldn't guess who that is. Sarah's passion for early um childhood education, her dedication to her students, and the positive influence she has on everyone around her make her truly deserving of employee of the year recognition. Sarah is the

007definition of a team player. I've taught with her on the GSRP team, teaching for the past eight years. She's always willing to to go along with my projects and crafts, even if it's not her favorite thing to do. And there's more, but you can read that. But so congratulations and thank you for your exceptional service and dedication. Next we will have Madison Elementary School. Good evening everybody. I thought it was only fitting that uh as she leaves us this year that she goes out with a bang. So our teacher of the year at Madison is none other than Megan Gates. Come on up, Megan. It is my honor and a privilege to recognize Megan Gates for her extraordinary contributions to Madison Elementary and to public education in general. Throughout her nearly 30-year career, Miss Gates

008has demonstrated an unwavering belief that every child can learn and succeed. She is known for building deep, meaningful relationships with students, families, and staff. Creating an environment where children feel safe, valued, and capable. Whether working with students who need additional academic support, helping children navigate social emotional challenges, or celebrating even the smallest victories, she consistently meets students where they are and helps them discover their potential. What makes Miss Gates truly exceptional is the sorry is the combination of her expertise and her heart. She is a master teacher who differentiates instruction to meet the unique needs of every learner. She uses data thoughtfully to guide her decisions and continuously seeks opportunities to grow professionally. At the same time, she approaches every interaction with compassion, patience, and genuine care. Students, parents, and colleagues alike describe her as

009someone who makes people feel seen, heard, and loved at all times. The impact of her work extends far beyond her classroom. She serves as a mentor to new teachers, a trusted resource to all of her colleagues, and a valued leader in our school community. Former students return years later to visit her and get hugs. Parents speak of the lasting difference she's made in their children's lives. Her current students describe her as someone who never gives up gives up on them and always helps them believe in themselves. Simply put, Megan embodies everything we hope for in an educator. Her dedication, professionalism, expertise, commitment, and deep love for children have left an indelible mark on our school community. Madison Elementary is a better place because of her, and we are honored to celebrate her as an exceptional

010as the exceptional educator whose influence will be felt for generations to come. Thank you. Now we will have Principal Jones from Wilkinson Middle School. Evening everyone. Um, it's a great honor to be here to celebrate our staff member and our teacher of the year, Miss Nicole Damalier. So, it is my distinct pleasure to really recognize Miss Damalier. She is a veteran and a long-term employee of Madison District Public Schools. Um, but this honore here standing before us embodies everything that a Wildcat should be. Yet, she is very patient. Um, she has boundless energy. She teaches the youngest group in the building, our sixth graders, which is no small feat, Max. Um, and she has a lot of patience and an unwavering belief in the potential of every student. Every time Nicole and I have a

011conversation, it's always about how much she loves or how much she really and truly cares for the students and want to see them succeed. um she doesn't just teach them um lessons from the textbook, but as a social studies teacher, she tries to bring everything to life. Um she has an extraordinary gift for seeing a unique spark in every single student. Um and she's tried to nurture it, always seeing the good in each and every student and turning self-doubt into determination. Whether it's the extra hour she spends helping students grasp a difficult concept or listening ear they provide when a student just wants to be heard. Nicole is that leader for us. Um she consistently goes over and beyond. This year we had the pleasure of the county had the pleasure of honoring her as

012well as our Oakland schools outstanding teacher of the year. One of the candidates for that and so we're just really really um grateful to have Nicole in our midst. Um, so Nicole, thank you for all that you do for our students and our Wildcats each and every day. We simply adore you and they love you. They do. And so this was presented to you. Congratulations. Thank you. Last but not least, we have Principal Collie from Madison High School. Everyone, um, Miss Smiley, um, was our Oakland County Teacher of the Year. She could not be here tonight. She has class. So, I will just read a couple of things. Um when when um you nominate a teacher for Oakland County Teacher of the Year, um the nomination form is like 32 pages long on a Google

013form. It is amazing. Um it's such a privilege to go back and really look at everything a teacher has done and does throughout the year. Miss Smiley sponsors so many of our activities for our students. um our drama club, she does our NHS sponsor, our student council sponsor, um she she does so so so much just beyond the classroom. So you also um get to reach out to parents and students and those are some of the statements um I'd like to share tonight. Um so one of them um a parent of one of our seniors um Bradley Davenport uh Mrs. Dampport said, "Teachers have one of the most important jobs in the world, educating the leaders of tomorrow. This work can be challenging, but it's also deeply rewarding to see the lasting impact such great

014teachers can have on students lives. Miss Smiley is one of those teachers. She has taught my son Bradley for AP US history and has consistently demonstrated high moral standards and a genuine commitment to student success. our family truly appreciates the positive influence she has had on our son Bradley's education and personal growth. And then um I was going around and um uh grabbing students, you know, I'm like, "Oh, you know, let's write a statement for Miss Smiley. Um students I I know that um she's had and um one of our uh seniors as well, Colton, came up to me and he said, "I have to write a statement." And I said, "Absolutely." And so I'd like to share his. Um, he said, "My experience with Miss Smiley has been over the past four years, not

015only as a teacher, but my class sponsor, my sponsor for student council, national honor study, and drama club. I've also had her as a teacher for three classes, including AP US history when I gained such immense knowledge to take the AP test to gain college credit. Miss Smiley has genuinely and drastically improved my academic career and improved my life. And I know many of my classmates feel exactly the same. So to Miss Smiley, that is all we have for our presentation of awards. >> All right. Thank you. At this time, we'll go ahead and take a fivem minute recess. Uh if anyone wants to stay, of course, for the rest of meeting, more than welcome to. If anyone needs to go, we definitely understand. So, we'll go and take a 5m minute break. is 7:23.

016We have all returned from break. At this time, we're going to move into the administration report. >> Good evening. First, I want to start by saying congratulations to Madison High School and the class of 2026. We had our graduation last Saturday and we had a class of 50 50 students and the total scholarship was 9 million over $9 million. So I think that has a lot to say about our Madison High School staff, our students, and our families. And I just want to say congratulations to all of the graduates. Also, I do want to take this opportunity to say congratulations to a junior who we had placed into the states for track and field this Saturday. And I'm just pulling up the direct information because I want to make sure I'm telling you where this

017individual plays. So, we have a junior by the name of Tristan Wallace. He finished fourth overall in the 200 meter um at the division state final meet this past Saturday. We he also broke another school record running 21.9 seconds in the 200 meter. He will also be competing in the Nike outdoor nationals in at Oregon University on June 21st. So, congratulations to all the students at Madison High School as well as to Tristan Wallace. Also, I do want to spread the news today. We officially received our grant information regarding summer discovery. So, if you can take one agreement and pass it down. So last week when we had our board meeting, I did inform everyone that the grant amount went up because the number of students went up. Today we received the official documentation from

018United Way and in this documentation is is a total of 13 pages. It has the final amount that we are going to get for our students. So this year for our fiveweek summer program to accommodate 650 students, we are getting 1,248,000 for grades K through rising K through nine at Madison District Public Schools. Thank you. And in addition, we have enrolled everyone today. We send out. So, if you're watching and you know someone who signed up, all of our kids should have received an email today talking about the logistics of the program. We are having four virtual orientations. They will be listed online as well as information regarding busing, early morning latch key. We can start as early as 7 a.m. In addition, I did send out permission slips. We are taking the kids on

019five different field trips. We're starting with the Detroit. No, we're starting with the movies during the first week. We are going to the Detroit Zoo. We're going bowling. We're going skating. And we are taking all of the students on a riverboat ride on the Detroit River during Fourth of July week. So, we're so excited because we know some of some of our students have never been on a boat. They don't usually visit downtown. So, just to see the downtown area, we were able to charter four boats. So, we're going to have two boats for the early childhood center as well as two boats for the Madison Elementary School. We are still looking for pair professionals. So, if you are a professional, if you're an adult and you love working with kids, we would love to

020have you guys a part of our summer discovery program. We do have postings online. We also need about eight teachers. However, we are going to take the time this week. We do have enough applicants, but if you're interested in joining our summer discovery program, please sign up. So in addition to the grant, I also made copies or printed out the official budget that was approved as well by the bomber by the United Way Foundation. And so when we submitted the grant application, we had to submit this budget. So the first page of the budget tells you the expense category and what we can spend everything on. A good thing about this grant is that it's not going to cost the district any funding. So the first category is for personnel. It also talks about how

021they want the ratio of students to be 18 to1. The second category is fringe benefits. So this will allow us to not have to pay those costs, those FICA retirement costs, so on and so forth. The next budget item is contracts and consulting. The next one is advertising, media and communication. Then we have supplies that are not pertaining to the curriculum. Then the next category is curriculum supplies. Next category is equipment. Then we have enrichment services, transportation, other direct costs, and indirect costs. And then if you go to the second page, it'll give you a breakdown. This was also emailed to everyone on May 5th, but the breakdown of the budget is as follows. In order to house 650 students across the district, especially the Ryzen K, and make sure they're safe because some of

022our classrooms are going to have two staff members, we allocated $485,000 for personnel, including $161,000 for fringe benefits. We are not contracting any services out. We are doing everything in house. We allocated $40,000 towards media, advertisement, communication, supplies. These are things that we're going to use for incentives as well as to get the kids to come to school. We allocated $66,950. Some of the things we're going to offer are we're going to do a bike raffle once a week for five students with like perfect attendance. We're also going to we cannot buy gift cards, but we did partner with Zenos where we're going to offer families dinner. So if you come for five days in a week, your name will go in a drawing and then you can go to Zenos's, you can have dinner

023for your family and in return we will be charged for the district. And then we have curriculum materials for the lvvenia. So the lvvenia is the the literacy materials that they recommend that we use. We also have $187,000 allocated for additional equipment such as computers because we need those for the online platforms as well as learning tools, um STEM activities, STEM lab supplies. Then we have enrichment services, $45,000 that is for the field trips. The transportation cost is the $10,000 that would replace the fuel that we are going to use for those buses. Then we have $30,000 allocated for snacks. So during the day, all the students will receive free lunch. However, students will also receive an afternoon snack that consists of a juice, a water, a chip, and something sweet. So we don't want

024any families to worry about sending anything. We want to have everything that the students need here. We order those directly from Sam's Club because we can put those on repeat and they can just deliver it to us. And then last but not least is the indirect operating cost. So this is the funding that can reimburse us as a district. So this can reverse reimburse us for our electrical bill, our water bill, anything that we use during summer discovery, those five weeks of camp, that $187,000 can go back and reimburse us for our facility usage. And we are so excited about this program. We are overwhelmed. Um but we are excited. And that is all I have for my report. Are there any questions? >> I see campus. >> Um I was just wondering is the

025program completely full or are there still available spots? >> So we have a wait list. We do have 650 registrants already. Um the number now is I'll tell you exact >> no for the Google form. >> Oh >> yeah. Uh one second I'll tell you so far for the Google form. We have 670 students who apply or families. So, we are going to make sure that all the kids show first because we don't want to be where we don't have enough room for kids and just look so unorganized. So, after orientation, I sent out an email today to all the families to confirm that they are still attending and I'm having families come um send me an email and say like, "Hey, maybe I can't make it so on and so forth." So, after June

02615th, we have our orientation. I will have another number. So, if you did apply, the application window is still open. However, I will not be able to add anyone until after June 15th once we see who exactly is coming. >> So, I had a question and as far as which one of these budgets are we're like moving some of the things to the ECC, I know that so that is going to go up under the equipment services where we are >> perfect >> moving things and getting things ready for that. So that can go up under debt. >> Thank you. I appreciate that. >> No other comments. I just want to say this is incredible. >> I'm so excited to to, you know, see the pictures that comes from this and and um hear how

027the the kids how they feel about it. Then I'm excited to see how the end of this wraps up. So this >> so exciting. I'm so happy for this >> and we will welcome any board members if you want to shakar on a trip we would love to guys have you guys on board I'll send you guys the list of the trips and um this year so every trip every summer discovery we get special color t-shirts so when we're on a trip we can know oh that's a Madison student so this year I think we have neon yellow t-shirts so if you would like a to chaperon and earn your neon yellow come on a board >> I don't know about everyone else but I'm sold Let me plan some vacation days. >> Yeah, I'll

028send out the field trip days in my newsletter this Friday. >> Thank you very much. >> You're welcome. >> Next item, consent agenda. All matters listed under the consent agenda are considered to be routine in nature by the board of education and will be acted upon by one motion. There will be no separate discussion of these items if any member of the board or any citizen requests discussion of an item. That item will be removed from the consent agenda and will become the first item of business under the board of education action items portion of the agenda. All right. Approval of minutes of the board of education for the regular meeting of May 26, 2026. Approval of the May 2026 expenditures amount of 1,58,238.81 and approval of the personal report submitted by human resources. It

029is recommended that the board of education approve the consent agenda as presented. Mr. President, >> Trustee Thompson, >> I'd like to make a motion that the board of education approved the consent agenda as presented. >> Thank you. Do we have support? >> Second. >> We have support. Any discussion? No discussion. All in favor say I. I. >> Anyone oppose say no. The eyes have it. The motion carries. Next item, new business, our purchasing document. Awesome. Thank you. So for this one, Trustee Hoger, would you like to speak to this? >> Yes, please. Um, I did find this. I know that we had adopted a Neola thing in 24. Um but the thing that I had said to all of us had uh this was our existing policy and um we are going to be hiring

030a position and we're going to be doing um potential consulting our old policy addressed that specifically. So I would like for everybody to read this and maybe have a discussion in our next meeting and look at we just simply adopted the Neola policy. We did not look at what our particular parameters were that that were there and I think going forward let's not have any potential problems. That's just all it says is it needs to be presented to us and we need to vote on it not just in a check register but if we could do that and have it on the next agenda next regular agenda please. >> Very good. Thank you. >> Thank you. Right. Is this board goals? It's been a moment since we have revisited this one. At this point, I

031assume everyone has had time to review the board goals because it's been a moment. Is that safe to say? All right. Do we still agree with the board goals? >> All right. Um, Trustee Campless, and I don't want to put you on the spot if you're not ready, but did you have anything you wanted to discuss or bring up about the goals or the next steps? >> Um, I think that we I like that we we made the goals together. We made them um very achievable and very defined in how we would achieve them and monitor that we are doing. So um I just want maybe we should set um periodic review to see if we are getting there instead of just having the goals and then at the end of the year finding out

032we failed to meet some of them. So if we could add um maybe quarterly um just every you know three months on the agenda we review them and make sure that we are on time for achieving the goals that we did set for ourselves. I just feel like we have a tendency to make goals and then we don't necessarily always go back and look at them and make sure that we're getting there and then at the end of the year we make new ones and it's you know what I mean? So I would like to see us really follow through with monitoring that we are on track. completely agree with that. Uh when should we make the next followup on that? We're basically wrapping up the the first half of the year now. We maybe

033plan for July. >> Yeah, I would say July and then again in October. >> July and October. All right. I'm going to ask the board to again review the board goals and then in the July meeting, we can review each of them, see where we are, see if we want to take any next steps or next actions from them. And um I will ask the our superintendent to see if we're aligned with with the school goals as well on that. >> Can you repeat the date that you want me to put it back on the agenda? >> July and October, please. In our regular meetings, >> July. >> Yes. July. Yes, thank you very much. Thank you, Trusty Chamblas. Any other discussion on the board goals? All right, awesome. Everyone's good and clear. I like

034that. Next item is board of education procedural ma manual. Is there any feedback on that at this time? >> Mr. President, Trusty, I I just think at this time we need to just maybe table this. Um I think it came at a time when emotions were high and some of the stuff that was in there we've already addressed. You've been looking at on boarding and stuff for a year and a half. So some of it's repetition. Does she need support to table? >> So if we going if we are going to table it, could we possibly come back up and look at it or design something because we have the election coming up in November and we have been talking about on boarding but we haven't created anything. So we don't have to use what

035I created. If you guys can send me like things you guys you think the new board members should know or things that you wish you would have known when you became a board member, then could we possibly create a manual for these upcoming seats that are coming on in the event that we have someone new? So, we don't even have to use my document. I just want to design something because I mean when you guys came aboard I don't think I had that much experience and all I gave you guys was a huge binder that says hey here are are the bylaws and policies. So if we don't use that one, are you guys willing to say, "Hey, what categories do we need every board member that's coming on board in January to understand and

036we can create our own new one for the incoming board members?" >> Um, real quick, uh, so as far as on boarding, I definitely have something already drafted. I'll give you what I have so we can use that. Um it was but I know there was more to the document than just the onboard and part of it. So I'll update the onboard and with what I have and the board has already been sent that previously a while ago. Was there any other feedback on any other parts of the document? Trusty Holder. >> I I just think maybe it could be a collaboration, not necessarily just something that was given to us so we all have input. >> We work on it in our policy, the policy committee. Do you guys want to switch gears and

037work on an onboarding or procedural manual since we're pretty much updated with the policy? >> Go ahead. Or could we break it down and just do one little section and not make it it doesn't need to be a three-hour discussion, but maybe we can just take parts of it at every regular meeting. You want to have a skeleton like what you've seen in other districts? I mean, because what I presented was what I saw what I got from three other districts. So, is there something different that anyone has? >> Chamblas. Um, what if we just to kind of like respect everybody's opinion on this and everybody's viewpoint on this, what if we add this to the next meeting's agenda, all of us come in with either an idea of how to improve what Miss May

038Miss Perry gave us or what input we might be able to offer. Um, Carlos, all of us should review the email you had sent us previously and we come in to the next meeting with a suggestion of how to move forward while being able to do this. Because I do think when I first started the board in January of 21, I was given a policy book which was already outdated. They had not been reviewed since 2008 for some of them if not or actually some of them were 2000 and 2001. They had not been reviewed since then. And so it was already 21 years later. Um, and that was it. I wasn't told the history of the district on things that we would speak to legal about with, you know, court cases. I was not

039given history about many of the things of Madison. And so I do feel that new trustees coming in should have a set list of what they're given so that they are the most informed and you know able to do their due diligence when entering um voting because they do start this board get sworn in and immediately start voting that night. Um just so for respect out of them into a new seat but also to protect the district. I think the best thing is for us to have a clear-cut plan of what every new trustee should receive. And so if all of us come at the next meeting, everybody bring your ideas or suggestions of how you would you think maybe we should go forward um to be able to provide that >> good with that.

040Any other discussion? All right. Very good. Next item, board of education action items. Approval of Bridg's math curriculum adoption for grades K through five. Administration is requesting approval to adopt the Bridges math curriculum for kindergarten through fifth grade beginning in the 2026 2027 school year. The district has successfully utilized number corner for the past three years through previously approved section 35A grant funding and already owns enough materials to support implementation. Bridges is a researchbased curriculum widely used throughout Oakland County and aligns directly with the number corner number corner resources currently owned by the district. The proposed adoption includes updated curriculum materials and student resources with a quoted total cost of $29,592 including chipping. administration also plans to utilize bridges as an instructional math resource for the summer discovery program rather than purchasing an additional summer

041curriculum. This approach creates consistency for students and staff while also providing cost savings to the district. The use of bridges for summer discovery was reviewed and approved by the district's grant manager. It is recommended that the board of education approve the adoption and purchase of the Bridges math curriculum for kindergarten through fifth grade in the amount of $29,592 for the 2026 2027 school year. Trustee Mccelpine Taylor is fine too. >> Now you tell me. I recommend that the board of education approve the adoption and purchase of the Bridges math curriculum for kindergarten through fifth grade in the amount of $29,592 for the 2026 20227 school year. >> Support. >> Thank you. We have support. Any discussion? >> Trusty Holder, >> you supported. >> Um, >> thank you. Trustee Thompson has supported. >> Any discussion? No

042discussion >> uh for this one. Let's do a roll call vote, please. >> Rebecca Chamblas, >> yes. >> Carlos Harp, >> yes. >> Mary Harp, oh, sorry. Uh Sydney Holder, >> yes. >> Chrisa McAlpine Taylor, >> yes. >> Gloria Thompson, yes. Motion passed. >> Thank you. my sticky notes. Next item, approve of superintendent vacation day cash in request in accordance with section 7B IV of the superintendent employment agreement. The superintendent is requesting requesting board approval to cash in 12 vacation days equivalent to 96 hours of acred vacation time. The agreement states that the super superintendent may request to cash in up to the total number of vacation days in her bank at any time with the approval of the board which shall not be unreasonably withheld. The superintendent currently has 100 hours of vacation time

043available and is unable to utilize the vacation time prior to the June 30th rollover deadline due to ongoing district responsibilities and operational needs. The superintendent's daily rate of pay for the requested vacation cash in is $58846 per day for the total payout amount of $7,6152. Approve of this request will not deplete the superintendent's available leave balances as the superintendent will continue to maintain 152 and one quarter hours of acred sick leave for emergency purposes. It is recommended that the board of education approve the superintendent's request to cash out, excuse me, request to cash in 12 acred vacation days total in 96 hours at the currently current daily rate of $58846 per day for the total amount of $7,000 60 $7,6152. in accordance with section 7B IV of the superintendent's employment agreement. >> Trusty Taylor. Thank

048are local to the community and surrounding areas that will be performing. Uh there will be food trucks, a ton of fun for family. 050>> All righty. Um to um Miss Gates and Mr. Moroski. Um I've been around almost as long as Brian and maybe a little longer than Miss Gates. um they truly have been dedicated to our kids in this district. So, I would like to say congratulations on their retirement. I wish them a happy, healthy um retirement all their days ahead. And to the graduates, congratulations. Um good luck moving forward. A lot of them had big plans ahead. So wishing them all well. >> So I have to say going to graduation is my very favorite part of being on the board. It is just filled with hope and dreams and joy and I absolutely am so honored to be a part of that. And um it was a beautiful ceremony. You guys did an amazing job and

051I just couldn't be more thrilled for all of our graduates and thank you for all the teachers and the parents and everyone that was there to support them along the way. Um, I just wanted to I have a couple things because I missed the last meeting because I was off with um the volleyball team, but I wanted to say I was able to attend the May senior decision day. Um, I believe it was on May 14th where it it's an it's a tradition that Miss Perry brought with her when she came to Madison High School as principal back in 2022. And it is one of the most beautiful things I've seen. We all see that the the star athletes go on ESPN and they have the hats of the different schools in front of them

052and they get to like surprise everybody and grab the hat that they're going to go to and they put it on their head and they're like, I'm committed to Florida State. Well, this is a way that every senior gets that moment. Every senior gets to feel that way. And so they all get there and we have the whole um auditorium decorated for them and up on the stage they call their names at random and the kids get to run up and their picture goes up on the big screen and the kids get to say you know I am so and so and I am going to Florida State for cosmetology or whatever and the whole auditorium erupts. They clap. They cheer for them. And if you watch Madison students, it is something so unique to

053this high school that I have not seen in other high schools. And I've I've been to many. The student body at Madison, for some reason, it magically blends where it I've never seen a student that has their name called or that sits alone or ever just seems like they're not the most popular kid. When these kids are called, it does not matter which kid it is. when their name's called, they erupt and they're all putting their hands out and they just run down the aisles clapping or slapping hands and it's just a beautiful day where every kid gets to scream out loud, I did it. I've done it. This is where I'm going. This is what I'm going to do. And everybody cheers like they made the best decision they could ever make. And I

054think it's one of the most beautiful traditions. So, thank you for bringing that. And then I was able to also attend the senior pinning which I believe was on um May 20th 21st. No, May 21st. I I don't know. Anyways, and it is one of our smaller senior uh classes. This is another um tradition that Miss Perry brought with her in 2022. And um the students get to go up and they win all the different awards that they get from their teachers, you know, student of the year and different subjects and different, you know, achievements for groups like NHS and student council. Um they get to get various trophies and their little uh cords. And um I when we started this and I say we as a district, not that I had anything to do

055with it. Um the first year in 2022, I think our class was a I think they raised like 5 million and then everybody was shocked and that class was like near 90 kids and then they were shocked in 23 when they were able to raise like six or seven million and then to get to 9 and a half million in one of our smallest senior classes is phenomenal. And the way that's done is that is something I will champion and stand behind every day of the week. We have one of the most dedicated and amazing counseling and principles and assistant principles at Madison High School. Bar none. I have not seen another high school where our where they have one dedicated person who sits with every single student various times of the year, brings in

056what 30 colleges that came in building, I think she said, um to meet these students. They went on field trips. Miss Helchowski stands behind these kids and pushes and forces them. She makes them do the FAFSA and does challenges and they get raffles and prizes. Who does it first? And these kids are pushed and pushed and pushed. And it used to be the million-doll scholar club because the kids were encouraged to get $1 million in scholarship offers, but it's no longer that. This year, their goal, they were all trying to get three or five million because Miss Hchowski does her job so phenomenally. So, I truly believe if you have a senior or a high school student, Miss being at Madison High School will give your child opportunities they won't find anywhere else because the

057scholarships that I've now had two students gra well three students graduate now because Colton is a class of 26. And I'm going to tell you, the scholarships my children applied for are things that I would have never thought of or heard. And I just think that speaks volumes for Madison High School. So, thank you for that. I was also able to attend prom. It was gorgeous. gorgeous small budget. These kids fund raise most of the money themselves and it was absolutely gorgeous. It was a casino night in Vegas and the dancing and the happiness and I've again gone to proms for 5 years. I do photography at them. I help with the decorations. This year was the rowdiest and I say that in the most beautiful lovely way, not anything bad prom that we have

058had in forever. Last year we had one student who wanted to get on the dance floor and then it was teachers partying and this year those kids took over that whole dance floor. It was just amazing. And I wanted to say congratulations to Miss Gates and Mr. Morowski. Um they have taught my students. Miss Gates at the elementary and Mr. Morowski at the high school. Miss Garowski has also coached my daughter at softball. Um he's one of the most amazing teachers. These kids relate to him in a way um that many of them need. They come to him with their problems and they come to him with when they need advice. And he has been there for some of these kids in ways that they don't teach you about in college. when you go to

059get your teaching degree, I guarantee they don't tell you what you're signing up for. Mr. Morowski's always been there. And I wanted to say um congratulations to the boys volleyball team. This year was the first year Madison High School has ever had a boys volleyball team in the history of Madison High School. This team fundraised the money for their jerseys for uh $900 in volleyballs for over $4,000 in equipment for um the $200 every home game refe because the district said we would love to have a volleyball team but not this year right now because at that time when we needed to sign up for it, we were still at the time where we thought we were going to have a deficit. And what ended up happening is this team said, "No, we've been asking.

060MHSA finally offered it. we're gonna get it. And they fundraised the money for everything. And I'm just so proud of them. And also, it was the first time a Madison re um a Madison volleyball team has made it to regionals in 26 years. So, they they did amazing. Oh, and they ranked 16th in the state of Michigan for about six weeks straight. And so, that's insane. Insane. Um and I wanted to say congratulations to our teachers of the year, Miss Gates, Miss Lamealier, Miss Smiley, and everybody. Um, you guys are phenomenal. You're doing a great job. Sorry, I had this all from last meeting and this one. So, thank you so much. That's it. >> Thank you. >> I would like to again congratulate the retirees, Miss Gates and Mr. Machowski. Machowski. Um, I'd like

061to congratulate the teachers of the years that got awards tonight. And especially, I'd like to congratulate the grads. I didn't get to go to graduation, but I have been in past years, and it is a good experience, and I just hope that everybody going forward has a good summer. >> Thank you. All right, bear with me. I'll keep it short and sweet. I promise. Don't give me that look. Um, as always, I want to thank Well, congratulations to our graduating class. It was such an honor to be on this board during the time of of that of this class. So, it was very special to me. So, uh congratulations to them. Uh congratulations to everyone recognized tonight as well. And I always like to thank the board members. We don't always agree and that's okay.

062We don't always get along. That's okay. But we can respect each other and we can work professionally. keep in mind the goals that we're doing this for the students. So, thank you to the board um as well as to our awesome administration. Um we couldn't do this without you guys. The the hard work that y'all put in every single day is amazing. Um I am still at all about the summer discovery program. So cool. I'm definitely going to take you up on the on a chapron opportunity there. Um, I think that's it. This is going to be a great year as always. All right. Uh, last item adjournment. Do we adjournment? Do we have a motion? >> I motion that we >> support. >> Trustee Mel Pine Taylor makes a motion for adjournment. Uh, Trustee

063Chamblas. uh supports any >> I do. >> Any discussion? No discussion. All in favor say I. >> I. >> Anyone oppose say nay. >> Nay. >> The eyes have it. >> We will for you. >> We are adjourned. >> Don't leave. I have your kills me in those chairs. Thank Liz.
