so moved we've been supported any additions or deletions all those in favor aye aye opposed motion carry 6-0 public requests and comments please state your name and your address hi can you hear me yep it's on my name is randy klein i live in mason michigan um i am the co-founder of the equity task force here in mason i'm going to read a statement that we published after the last diversity committee on wednesday night mason public schools diversity committee met for the last time until fall of 2021 the meeting began with a hopeful presentation from youth speak a program that gathers students for open and honest conversations about race and current events following this presentation the district's diversity consultant dr carlene tischner outlined a four-phase dei plan for the diversity committee to review while these

two presentations gave us hope for a better future for mason public schools the conversation that unfolded after was shocking when a member of the committee brought up the equity task force day of visibility on may 25th it became clear that though the task force had sought partnership with the district weeks ago the diversity committee had not been informed or prepared for the event a member of the committee requested that the districts the district prepare teachers for conversations around the t-shirts our black students matter it is unclear if the district will take this recommendation when the fact that some students are planning on wearing white shirts in opposition of the day of visibility was shared a troubling conversation started among members of the committee on quote respecting all sides unquote herein lies a foundational flaw in

the intention of the mps diversity committee they believe that all opinions even those that are actively racist should be treated equally allowing bigoted opinions the same consideration showing that even hurtful voices are to be respected and tolerated solely to avoid disagreement and uncomfortable conversations irrevocably damages any good the committee can do both the district and the diversity committee's commitment to neutrality prevents them from staying the one thing that should be foundational to their work racism is unacceptable let us be clear wearing a white shirt in support of white lives matter is an act of white supremacy and overt racism support of white supremacy in our schools should not be tolerated by any member of the diversity committee or administration of the mason public schools without a clear anti-racist focus the work of the diversity committee

at mason public schools is bound to fail the equity task force is committed to holding up a mirror to the diversity committee and the administration to keep it accountable to its important work and in addition to continuing the to ensure the school board reviews that work in a timely manner the creation of a diversity committee without follow-through from the board demonstrates an in-name only approach to diversity and is our sincere hope the mason school districts is truly committed to teaching all students about all aspects of our social systems we will continue to educate the community and provide a safe space for conversations around anti-racism and educate throughout the summer programs to include a webinar series on weight racism questions we're afraid to ask and the importance of anti-racist education reading time for for for kids

birth to five fifth grade indigenous craft time where we learn indigenous history of mason conversations on social justice moderated by task force members are offered to lend the vast resources and services of our 215 members to the public mason public schools stands we sincerely hope to be utilized fully for the benefit of all mason students and families thank you so much thank you any other public comment all right moving on with special reports of recognition as we do have our extended coven 19 learning plan for you this month for approval i'm going to turn over to mr stewart uh do we we'll still have it in june as well uh yes uh as you'll see um there has been no changes for the month of uh may so currently um the district is offering four

days of in-person learning with the exception of wednesdays when all students are fully remote and then we're offering the the fully remote option for our students so there are no changes to those instructional modes uh you'll see down at the bottom of the on the second page the two-way communication by building for uh the month of april and that there were actually five weeks um in april one of which i'll just note was spring break and so that was uh during week one so any questions for matt no but there's further discussion farther on the first one right okay i'll wait all right circle back to that later uh curriculum and instruction nothing no report communications we received just a few emails this month i think looked like everybody was copied on the ones i

got so um there weren't uh obviously quite as many as prior months but uh old business we have none uh can i get approval of the consent agenda i'd like to make a motion to approve the consent agenda including approval of minutes of the april 12 2021 regular meeting personnel report number 23 financial report number 24 including payment of general fund bills in the amount of 1 million 948 thousand six hundred twelve dollars and thirty six cents food service fund bills in the amount of sixty thousand two hundred thirteen dollars and ninety four cents student activity fund bills in the amount of thirteen thousand seven hundred three 3 700 and 3 cents and capital project fund bills in the amount of 839 502.89 support moved and supported any discussion all those in favor aye aye

aye opposed motion carry 6-0 uh committee superintendent reports finance and property uh mr baby's not here tonight so i will report out on what was somewhat of a long meeting um we've got two sets of notes we've already reported on the 412 meeting so i'm going to report on the 5'3 meeting um no public comment we had uh deb stewart uh from the city of mason talking about the deed on the library um there'll be a motion on that and i'll get in a little bit more discussion at that point um basically a city would like to put improvements into the building but before they put the improvements in we are in a roundabout way still on the title of that building and they would like us to release it over to them so again

i'll get into more when i make the motion um we've reviewed the owner represent representative reimbursable costs um it's kind of a routine thing that we do when costs exceed pre-approved levels um that we've given ron the ability just to approve on his own um steel structural concrete the original bid we awarded the contractor pulled out withdrew their bid and so that's been out two bit again we have some results there and again that will be later in tonight's uh agenda ron went through uh some of the recommended capital improvement projects um that we're doing and uh we've reviewed the stockbridge bus service agreement uh we've um had a contract for a long time with stockbridge to service buses and uh that will be again a motion tonight brought to the board um dm burr

supplemental custodial contract that is the company that did the the coed cleaning force during the school year came back to us uh the recommendation or not recommendation but a review of do we extend that contract out further and um basically the conversation the finance board had is just based on current updates from cdc and the fact that the contract would have to be renewed through the summer and paid for in july and august when there's no kids in the building to keep it as continuous contract we decided to not bring that to the board for approval at this time north aurelius has got some water leaks on it uh kevin outlined some uh metal panels that were recommended by gmb to re uh to be put up so that we could stop some of the

leakage um time frame for that really is not until fall uh time frame and that's they'll run through sinking funds we've also kind of requested a uh an update for the entire board on where our sinking fund balance is and what the you know scope of projects now let's see over the next 24 months on a priority basis uh so we can kind of see where everything fits in um we got the ingham isd proposed budget on the agenda to rubber stamp tonight we got our monthly budget update from tracy and uh everything pretty much remains on track at this point we've reviewed chromebook fleet management bids these are bids to um kind of process the incoming chromebooks clean them to figure out which ones we're not going to keep because of the age and

usage of them and then update them with the new chromebooks that we've authorized to be purchased and get those all set up and ready for the fall so we're going to outsource a lot of that work again that will be i think in motion tonight had preliminary discussions on general fund budget for 2122 uh just talked about on some of the assumptions that will be going into that budget as it's being prepared and some of the thoughts for uh additional support services and staffing that will be built into that budget uh when it does come to us we adjourn at 4 47 the next meeting will be june 7th 3 o'clock right here at the middle school any questions to start or you can hold them until motions are made whatever you like but any

general questions before i start motions i just had a quick question about the north aurelius piece with the water issues is that on old building or addition good to you old uh old trim area that wasn't replaced and so now it's going to be we looked at a couple different options uh whether it was metal or more of a composite material yeah they're on the media center you can see it from the road mr creamer just only because we're on northern relays real quick i just want to mention this a lot the last line we don't have any motions on this because it's not in front of us right now but this this idea that the committee requested a report on sinking fund priorities yeah i just wanted to highlight that because that is important

it's something we talked about before it helps us as i'm now on the finance committee but not being on it before it was always a challenge to not know you know we're voting on something big but we're not knowing what's coming down the pike right not that we don't trust staff it just helps us get a better understanding so i just wanted to highlight that thank you i know tracy's going to work on that all right uh along with the motion series one more quick question just just for clarity um the the leaking that was uh a question was asked that wasn't related to any i know it's old construction but there's nothing that was done recently that would have affected that because it hadn't it wasn't leaking before we started yeah that was my

understanding and that was okay it's just due to age that was asked and answered yeah it's kind of been an ongoing issue with some of the flashing as well and um you know we've we've we've patched it we've tried repairs and you know we've been able to fix it for a short period of time but the the real fix long-term fixes replacing the fascia with some metal panels and creating proper flashing and everything else so it'd be a long-term solution to something that it's just been you're not that's pouring in water by any means and we've fixed it and it's certainly uh doable at this point but we it's something we need to get taken care of here in the next year or two okay yeah thanks all right uh make some motions uh how

do you want me to do a city mesa one here all right i'd like to uh present everybody with the following preamble resolutions referring to 2 23 21 resolution quick claim deed and a motion to to approve the signing of that deed over to the city support moved and supported so here's the situation the library city library was donated many many many years ago and it's been through a few different deed adjustments but the way that it's set up is um the city of mason is required to maintain the building and it's in need of a lot of repairs right now to the point where it's probably not going to be a usable building if the repairs are not done and on that deed it said that if the if the cattle the capital area

library system ever decides to pull out and not have a library there that that building would then revert back to ownership between five mason public schools and the city i believe right or the county and the county county and the county so the city doesn't own it there um now there's no intention to not have a library there and so the city because they they have to come to the table with a lot of money to help fix it is only willing to put the money into the project if the title on it the deed audit is updated to say it is the city's property um so we've had presentations for a couple months now by dab we've asked a lot of questions a lot of back and forth on one hand we challenged her

to say you know music is i mean it's kind of an asset of the school do we just sign it over to the city does that make sense um is that fair and the bottom line is um either and and just so you know the county has already signed over the deed and vive township has already signed over the deep we're the only remaining party who was not actually signed off if we were to not sign off the building would not pass code and the library would be kicked out so and then we would own the building with so not up to code and not anything that we want to be responsible for kicking the library out of town and not that we have any use for the building whatsoever anyway so um you know

after a lot of back and forth and a lot of legal talk and the attorney's talking it's uh it would be the committee's recommendation that we do in fact sign off and follow the county and the in the uh va township's lead on this one so that's kind of where that's at so i guess any any questions i i assume journey has looked at this yes yes their attorneys are attorneys everybody they're all at the meeting so and they're comfortable with the way it's written and okay yeah yeah the resolution and before you is a joint effort with the city's attorney and of course true in law um looking out for the best interest of the district okay thank you including the deed as it's written was okay one one question though if if if

the city uh if if we did not sign off on the deed in the city no longer operated as a as a library what would the districts obligations be the district's obligation would ultimately be either um this in the city went as far as saying we'll sign it over to you you maintain it becomes your financial burden and then if you don't maintain it it won't pass code and the library will have to leave so i don't think we want to operate the library um it's about it's a two-phase project defer further alex it's phase one part a part b and it's roughly a half a million dollars some of that is grant money from the state some of it is fundraising but there's still a significant portion of that uh funds that need to

come from the city yeah so they're saying we're gonna put a hundred hundred fifty two hundred thousand dollars into it we're not putting it into something we don't own because that's not use of their taxpayer money so uh and cattle basically gets it for what a dollar a year lease or something like that indefinitely so in which yes most communities have a local library like that and and the city has um they anticipate cooperating with cattle to chip in for capital costs for improvement yes okay yep well yeah cattle won't chip in well they don't kettle won't chip in they just okay i thought that they were anticipating some participation from cattle's probably got the best deal of this whole thing because they get the the building with not a lot of cost because the

city pays the heat maintenance utilities cattle provides its own programming and its own staffing but the city provides the the nest for the library city spends about eight thousand dollars a year out of general funds uh to operate the building now plus whatever renovations need to be done over time right for decades they've been doing that for decades they've been doing it yeah okay it sounds exciting frankly i think that uh that's a fantastic building it is needs updates and it's a great resource right just the phase one a is uh handicap accessibility and some of the uh sidewalks and stuff outside that are in bad disrepair phase one b is uh renovating uh the first floor and then longer term planning they're just starting that about renovating the other floors there so they're they're

behind the project and they're doing it all out of general funds they don't want to bond anything one thing that struck me and i mentioned in our committee meeting is the intent of the this family a long long time ago was to have a library in mason and i think if we make this decision today we can support that original intent in the spirit of of that giving so correct um just wanted to mention that long time ago somebody thought library was a good idea here and we we can be a part of keeping that going with our decision was the intent of the gift it was to have a librarian mason and that was i don't know 90 years ago a long time ago so any other questions it looks like we've got a

roll call on this one liz i do mr creamer uh yes mr duane yes mr o'connor yes myself miss evans yes mr kelly yes and mr mumbi yes they will be happy to know that uh motion carries 6-0 uh next motion is to approve or disapprove um or not to approve the 21-22 isd general fund budget as presented again this is an annual requirement of all county school boards as to an ioc rubber stamp the isds budget that they present to us not sure what would happen if we said no but uh so move and supported any discussion there was one uh that was brought up at the isoa meeting last week and the superintendent did open that up for discussion and one of the things that he brought up was that the early college

program is being suspended um for one year to look at that their participation is down their capacity they're about half of what they would have expected or what they had originally planned for so they're actually taking a pause on that to look at some ways that they can make changes to that program um i just thought that was an interesting point to make considering that you know 90 of their budget is directed anyway that was one of the um sort of discretionary things um but they do anticipate supporting the kids that are currently in it and i'm not i guess what i'm getting at is what what is mason's uh participation in that um do we have any idea um no i don't have any idea but i can get you the information yeah but

it is something that participated in pretty actively in the past yeah we we do have some students in in the program yes um but not many but not many we do not have a high number of participants i know in the program so i would guess under 10 but i without confirming that yeah um i don't want to go on record until matt looks it up or gets that information from the high school yeah i'll get the the board the information but it is not very many students okay all right that's all i just wanted any other discussion all those in favor aye aye opposed well she carries 6-0 i'd like to make a motion to approve the 21 to 23 stockbridge bus service agreement as presented i'll support movement supported any discussion all those

in favor aye aye opposed motion carry 6-0 i'd like to make a motion to approve the bid from intercom tsg in the amount of 75 000 as presented support we've been supported in discussion again this is the outsourcing of our chromebook management through the summer as we don't have enough people to possibly process all of those laptops in and out there's a pretty wide range of uh bids that came in and so i'm wondering you know what the vetting process kind of teased out of that that i mean ultimately the lowest bid was is the one that's being proposed here so presumably it's okay but i'm wondering what the variation was well i mean it's not unusual in bidding process especially in the world we live in right now that there's always some high ball

players that throw it out hope that nobody else bids just to get it but there was a pretty big big range and and talking to to kevin he invented it out and was was comfortable with a little bit on it okay you know but yeah i noticed the same thing um any further discussion all those in favor aye aye opposed moshe kerry 6-0 that is it for finance and property community staff relations okay community staff relations met on april 19th we started with a public comment from noel dolan mr brooks provided the staffing update nice job notes were presented and discussed we talked about the national school public relations association communication award application which would be which is something mason submitted um around the mason teachers challenge accepted social media campaign which i think everybody's

seen and it's a wonderful thing so i don't know when we're going to hear back on that but an application has gone in matt stewart talked about the district's future proud michigan educator grant from the mde and some of these things are also on the uh policy and curriculum so between the two reports maybe we'll have a better understanding and i'll try and keep my section brief here um level up was presented by matt steward including discussing the expansion adaptation coordination of the district's level up programming which again we can hear about in a few minutes but it's this year's summer learning experience we talked about the extended learning uh covet 19 plan i'm sorry extended covert 19 learning plan training report from matt communications were discussed there was an update provided by our superintendent

uh diversity committee the administration provided an update on diversity committee activities including uh including efforts to formalize membership engage subcommittees and focus on goal development the district is continuing to offer the book study dei talks and staff conservat con conversations on d-e-i we discussed the live streaming of board meetings um including consideration of location technology public comment and recommendations and experiences of other organizations and schools we discussed the long-term mason public schools remote and virtual learning plans including considerations regarding student privacy and security staff resources and online learning strategies and delivery options there was a capital improvement uh project report given to us by uh our superintendent uh a reminder groundbreaking ceremony is planned uh next week at 5 30 at steele we adjourned at 7 50. and i welcome any questions or even additions

or comments from committee members that might want to add in case i missed something any questions for patrick do you have some motions we do have motion we also have the nice job notes i don't know if we want to do those before the motion i can't remember the the order that mr mumbi used to make this happen magically at our meetings but i'll start with nice job notes unless somebody turns off my microphone um i have a couple from april rachel huntley uh thanks for energy and time put into creating and see-sawing creating seesaw activities for students and that came from lily brown by the way for our worldwide audience listening and watching nice job notes are an internal thing that we do here in mason public schools recognizing um good deeds by others

and it's something that happens back and forth and it's always a highlight of our meetings each month to read these out um in march there was lisa berka not only was there for students but also for the staff with smile and chocolates kevin jones got a shout out for his quick ability to get tech up and running over at the middle school so those are three examples and we tend to go around the room um so i'll defer to the next person maybe steve yeah so i had um a couple on here that i thought were really noteworthy um nice job notes for uh stephanie keith and trevor bulmer in transportation um thanking them generally for being patient and accommodating with all of the bus changes and boy we've had a lot and these were

actually submitted uh in early march and so there was another round of changing all the bus schedules again even after that so that's a test they normally do once a year maybe tweak it a little bit and they've done it i don't know probably as many times as they have in the last decade uh this school year so outstanding work there accommodating one of the lesser known parts of managing this school year thank you very much to the transportation folks oh i'm sorry i'm sorry i'm sorry my my mistake um yeah i guess i just have general comment um i i appreciate the consistency with which these get submitted um it seems every every uh every meeting we have uh quite a selection um and again i guess um i i don't have any specific

to point out but i do um uh a couple caught my eye and that regarding um the ongoing um the appreciation of the support that the tech department's been able to maintain um it's not getting any easier um for them you know as we we tasked them with it seems like new new things to worry about at every meeting and there are notes to affirm that appreciation all right i might be taking somebody else's so i'm sorry if i did but it's hard to check the page numbers here but the couple i have i saw a familiar friendly face so i'm going to grab it uh emma doty uh and rebecca gunther both got recognition emma uh i know is that aled i don't know if that's the only place she is but rebecca's at

steel street and they got some extra recognition for positive public relations for mason public schools participating in the school's rule segment on wilx talking about the mason teacher learning academy for new teachers and you know our families personally experienced the um wonderful teaching ability and and style and just dedication by uh emma doty in particular and i have no doubt that rebecca is similar they're just great great educators and and great people so very appreciative of their actions and hopefully i didn't steal the somebody else's so uh you didn't steal mine so um a couple that popped out to me actually were written by uh cheryl and obviously cheryl's no longer here and i think it was uh a great gesture on her part to on her way out take the time to thank people

that she's worked with in the administration building and some of her staff and uh tell them what a great job that they've been doing so um you know i think that uh really you know for her to take the time shows that uh just how valuable those people were to her in her daily life so that was great all right so the couple that i got that jumped out to me is um higgs at the high school saying a big shout out to mr joyce for being able to do the cardboard boat races and being able to maintain that this year and to be able to engage the kids in that and i i don't have a high schooler yet but i love that's one of my favorite things to hear about is is being

able to do that the other one is chris devos saying thank you to nicole anderson michelle feist and brandi gentilly over at north aurelius for all the work that they're doing while one of the classrooms is in transition and that they're really going above and beyond for everything that they're doing so just recognizing that group trooper thanks everyone back to you patrick promotion yeah motion i would like to make the motion to begin live streaming of board of education regular meetings when possible beginning may 20 21. support moved and supported any discussion well we're successfully doing it right now so um we must be okay with it and i certainly want to continue i don't think there was any resistance yes well and i'd just like to comment that we we had full support out

of committee and there was a little bit of misunderstanding on my part in the next steps and i do believe it went to the school board president mr creamer to make sort of to weigh in on it so i thank you for your leadership on that i think it's the right thing to do and here we are with a worldwide audience watching live around the world right any further discussion all those in favor aye aye opposed motion carry six zero anything else that would be it thank you all right great thanks policy and curriculum we met on april 26th at 5 30. there was no public comment we had several presentations from the middle school with different courses mrs casalli was anxious enough to have three different courses that she was bringing to us but

it was a great diverse presentation of different courses that are going to be be presented tonight for first reading um if there's questions about those um you know we can talk about it once i'm done but they were all presented there were questions and discussion but they all sounded really good so just so that folks understand there had been the position of the family consumer sciences teacher and these courses are enhancing those elective hours that were provided from that teacher so at this time that teacher position and that role in the middle school is not being filled and so these courses will bring about the extra offerings for the students then we discussed mr stewart presented with the high school graduation requirements the standardized testing graduation or the standardized testing requirement for graduation it was

lifted for this year and it needed to come before the board to also be lifted for next year too so that it is not a requirement for graduation we did have some discussions about what impact that has and as far as statistics and things like that but the the committee didn't have any concerns with anything that has been also forwarded to the whole board for first reading we discussed um antigen testing so there's currently antigen testing going on thursday mornings that are super super effective and they are doing a very good job of getting the students in and out but looking to see how the antigen testing could be expanded further than the athletes ages 13 to 19 in the district for possible music students it had been used for one performance but could it

be used for more so that more middle school high school bands could could have a concert in some fashion or could it be utilized in any way for prom or other year-end gatherings so that was a discussion that we had mr steward talk to us about the future urban stem educators there was a grant that was received to open it up for stem topics to middle school students and explore teaching as a potential career path the high schoolers so the high schoolers will get trained and then the high schoolers go in and teach it to the middle schoolers so that is something that will help the high schoolers will be able to use that towards high school credit as well that is also before the board for first reading mr stewart again discussed level up

the summer program that is being done currently it's about 400 students we're hoping that there's going to be more um at this point we do i don't know the exact number but looking to see how we can um provide that to as many students as possible safely use the outdoors and really be able to utilize in-house teachers for that program over the summer talked about mr steward he just talked a lot the amplified science um for k-5 update um with everything going on this year some teachers have been able to have it in the classroom more than others but at this point we are going forward with it for k5 the course materials have all been ordered and received and ready to be trained and professional development for the teachers is already being planned there

was a brief discussion about the school district providing remote and virtual learning plans and what that will look like with some participation through the isd or how that's going to look it's not written in stone yet but there will be some remote and virtual plan for our district and that communication has already gone out to the families of the district as well we heard an update on the diversity committee there the big topic that was discussed at our meeting was the membership subcommittee was defining um duration and how to apply for the committee and goals and things like that and i'll tell you that we've already had another diversity committee meeting and those things were discussed further in depth as a diversity committee brief discussion of the capital improvement project mostly surrounding the fact that

we have the uh groundbreaking ceremony on may 17th and i know capital improvement didn't meet so i'll put that reminder out to all of everyone that may 17th and then the rainout day is the 18th if i'm remembering correctly and other than that we adjourned at 7 34 and our next meeting is may 24th any questions just uh maybe a comment or two uh we it's been a little while but we certainly heard from at least faculty and maybe a couple uh interested community members about the their um their belief that we needed to keep that kind of family consumer sciences kind of curriculum going in middle school and they were hoping that um that the district would reinstate that position so i just recall that uh being the case and i you know i

think these classes are great and exciting um i also think um there's a there's at least a group of our population that would very much enjoy and and benefit from that that other curriculum as well so i don't want us to forget about it i know mrs schaefer does a fantastic job at the high school um and maybe she'll have to rely a lot more on what kids are learning at home rather than what they might have gotten at the middle school if we don't put it back in place but these are great uh classes but i do think there's a there's a spot for for that too so i don't know this this kind of makes it permanent that at least for the next year or two probably you know are we gutting that

room i know there's some old equipment and other things in there but do these decisions kind of make it so that we'll never have that again does anybody do we know is that what we're thinking right now yes the the position wasn't filled for this school year um due to a resignation um for a couple different reasons one was if you can recall um back in uh well may of 2020 we were looking at a 500 to per pupil potential cut from the state of michigan so there was a few positions district right we did not fail that we're reinstating and as we looked at reinstating this 1.0 fte in electives the decision was made to look at uh something other than the the that curriculum to move into a more business-like stem-like delivery of

of content and offer additional electives kind of designed on what you see now and and potentially as we move into other opportunities down the road with some of our computer staffing here at the middle school um anything else to add matter pretty much sums it up so we would obviously be using that room for other purposes um and we do not have at least on our foreseeable future bringing that program back other questions well and i don't want to discount mr mumby's thoughts on that by any means but i did want to comment on how excited i am to see these courses um i frequently drift back to being a 13 year old in my mind and i uh 10 year old 12 year old middle school age kid these courses are great i mean

if i look at them and read through them you've got some exciting things happening things that i think the kids would get really enthused about pop sensation course sounds like a really wonderful way to take that that knowledge of music and understanding and trying to build it to something that's meaningful for a kid at that age certainly the leadership class how to start a business logo design that's right in the the wheel wagon of any kids coming out of mason high school later graduating having those skill sets um the myths folklore and fairy tales i do believe at some point they're going to talk about bigfoot so i know our superintendent might find some enthusiasm uh with that idea and the innovation workshop course proposal i think actually talked about um how they're gonna actually

have the kids help design a catapult so what i'm getting at is there's some fun embedded in this and certainly middle school years are challenging years for kids and and this is exciting this is created by our staff and um i'm enthused just again not trying to discount what mr mumbi has shared but just focusing looking just at these courses i'm enthused thank you great thanks any any other comments discussion um no motions no motion so is that it does it yes those are all first readings so all right we'll have them all back next month then moving on capital improvement committee did not meet although i'm sure we we all got updates in our other committee meetings um superintendent there's one item here that we've been uh addressing on a monthly basis here this

school year that's the extended culvin 19 learning plan matt presented a brief update on that earlier in the agenda and so now the board would need to take action on approving the the learning learning plan for for this month we get a motion i'd like to make a motion to approve the extended coven 19 learning plan as presented support move to support at any further discussion when's the right time to talk about bulldog virtual academy is that with this or is that something different it that's for next school year so we'll be bringing that up into all of our committee meetings okay um we're actually in the process of gathering data on that and um you know we've given some thought to what it potentially would look like but it's you know it's going to

depend obviously on parent interest and parent demand and so um i think our our planning will certainly morph as we look at the need in our community for next school year for for virtual learning so we'll give updates at the next well two committee meetings community and staff and policy and curriculum okay thanks there is a initial interest uh due date of tomorrow though for folks to uh say if they want to participate so correct we probably should say it to the world since we know everyone around the world is watching this meeting tonight deadlines tomorrow if you want to do bulldog virtual academy that's just tonight at midnight it's at midnight everyone just got an email telling them the deadline's tomorrow so check it out yeah tomorrow at 11 59 p.m so maybe not

expressly uh kova 19 learning plan related but um you know the the latest news is that uh there's no longer enforcement on the six-foot automatic quarantine rule i'd love to see us reduce that to three if we haven't already um to not automatically send close contacts home if they're within six feet since we don't have to that's just my personal opinion and again it's not necessarily related to here but i would certainly support us reducing that down to three feet um for um folks so we're not sending as many kids home it doesn't sound like we're sending as many kids home anyway but i would be in support of that well i would second that as far as uh maybe taking a closer look at that um and i do have i am asking for

a little clarification here too that we might need to adjust and it's related to our preparedness and response plan which i i think is part of our said learning plan or at least part that we have to approve isn't that correct something we revisit each month yeah what you're doing now is you're reconfirming the extended covet 19 plan and this is an extension of that yes okay so in our prepared and response plan which is related um and it's it's related to comments that were just brought up by some of the other board members here i just want to um in k5 it says for mask wearing it says that um our current approach based on that response plan which hasn't been updated since august it indicates that we they must wear facial coverings unless

students remain with their classes throughout the school day does that i guess in reading that i just wanted to clarify how that's being implemented um because it's it's it's not i guess it could um it could be interpreted a couple of different ways there but currently is how are we implementing that in our k-5 classrooms we do we do have the directives from the state and the county obviously that require us to wear those masks so while that may have been the conditions when we adopted if it was cohorting for example that was the issue we do have to obviously where the mask was the updated orders okay are there there i i'm not aware of any county orders at the moment that apply to mason um yeah there was direction provided to schools from

the county health department and that's an emergency order an order or is that recommend a recommendation not an emergency order it's in their guidance okay so let's just say i guess i just saw an inconsistency there it says must wear facial masking unless they remain within their classes i mean that there's an exception there and of course we do remove them from the class occasionally but when they're in the class i mean the assumption when i read that is that when they're in the class you know our current policy gives us some leeway gives our administration some leeway in that regard but i i guess i was looking at this from the point of view that in in my experience unless i'm wrong here but every time that we've had an outbreak in elementary school

we've essentially shut down the entire classroom um we we haven't selectively reported individual students um to the county when those occasions occur is that am i correct in that um every elementary classroom that's had a positive case does get reviewed by the county health department and a lot of it has to do with age and behavior and if kids are around each other if they are out of their seats and moving around throughout the day so every time we have a report we provide the conditions to that information to the health department and they help make that determination okay and and with the mask wearing policy in place every in every case we've been advised that the entire um classroom needed to be removed from that building yeah we haven't had quarantine direction from the

health department when those have occurred yeah okay and so to be clear then the the idea of six foot verse three foot is is not something that's within our ability to to influence that is the county making that assessment i'm confused direction on on six foot is the close contact standard right but when we have a positive case in a classroom are we pre-filtering out the people who are six feet or more when we report to the county or not yes we're we're working to identify individuals that were within six feet for at least 15 minutes got it with her without a mask and so so actually mask wearing and the distancing are within because their guidance so it's us in this room that set this policy regarding mass wearing as well as distancing i

think i think that's the same for both they're both guidances yeah but i was just i just saw this was brought to my attention and also as i was reviewing this we already have in our policy something that does suggest that we wouldn't have to wear face masks in those rooms in in k5 in our current preparedness and response plan that's the way i'm interpreting it i mean are you suggesting though that we should drop mask requirements um i'm suggesting that that might be something we could discuss given the fact that that we've had to quarantine entire classrooms every single time even though we already are are wearing masks in those schools in those classrooms since august every time we've had a positive case regardless of mass wearing regardless of social distancing um well no

i mean we just heard that if if that the district is pre-filtering out anybody who was not a close contact in the report to the county so the county would not provide a quarantine order on those well technically i don't believe the school district is is required to identify just close contacts i think our responsibility is and the word i believe is used is potential um and so i don't know how far we actually carry that um but if it's possible that that kid was a close contact we're we're our responsibility is to report that to the county and then the county in theory supposed to do a little investigation but it seems like they rely very heavily on the work that we do here as a district and we do quite a bit of

work they do a great job in doing that very extensive but again i'm just looking at how our experience in this community has been to this point that every time we've always reported every single student in every classroom k5 whenever there's a positive outbreak in in that classroom um so i don't see i'm not seeing much differentiation here as far as mask wearing social distancing um you know the symptoms i don't see any of that it just seems like we do the same thing every single time and my my question or my discussion point here would be is mask wearing in k5 classrooms something that that we should reconsider as a requirement well with five weeks left i would say no um but looking at the next school year absolutely we should look at it

because you're right if they're close contact it doesn't matter if they had a mask or not they're being sent home but with five weeks left i that's not something i would take up but i i would um i would be interested in trying to allow more kids to continue to attend class which is which is was my point reducing that close contact consideration really for middle school and high school because elementary school you're right every single time it's every kid in class middle school and high school it's not they they hunt and peck around who was around mary and those people are the folks that get sent home and it's rarely a whole class so i you know i would certainly um support continuing to talk about masks for next year but i'd encourage us

to look at maybe not um extending that close contact number to all the way to six feet so we could keep more kids in classes when we can um but i understand what you're saying i think with five weeks left that's just we're gonna make it to five weeks but if we can keep a hundred more kids in the classroom for those five weeks because they were five and a half feet away from somebody that tested positive i would i would let them stay yeah i appreciate that and i i think um just my point simply were this that that um we're not reporting just close contacts we're reporting potential i mean that's that's what the state health department says we do and so i'm assuming that's what we do we don't have to verify

that they're all close contact so the assumption is is not every kid in that classroom was a confirmed close contact i mean i don't think there's any way we could we could determine that we can determine that it's possible so that's that's the assumption i've been making i've asked that before in in committee meetings the only the only other point is that i would make it because there's only five weeks left that's why i think it's actually important that we do what we can to make sure because the days as we come closer to the end of the year are more critical than ever because we have less time to sort of make up ground so i i would i agree with you that what you know and i would support anything that we can

do to help keep our kids safely in the classroom even if there is just five weeks left and that's i i guess it doesn't sound like there's a ton of the mask wearing might not really be something that that's going to work here but i would strongly suggest that we that we consider that social distancing or explicitly state that um you know to be more in line with cdc and state um guidelines and recommendations but if the district has to go by the health department the health department is giving the guidance we don't have the autonomy in that decision and so the health department is giving that guidance what which help let the health department just let them give the guidance what health department are you referring to the county health department that we report

to that the district staff reports to why would we go against or do something different than what the county health department needs in order to provide the guidance based off of the positive the exposure the possible quarantine why why are we rocking that boat well we we actually did have a vote in one of our previous meetings that we were going to follow state guidelines on regarding we explicitly stated that not that we weren't doing it before so the district reports to the county the county follows the state guidelines that everybody follows the health department guidelines and the miosha guidelines the the the requirements i should say we choose to follow certain guidelines as a board and as a school district and and there are there are no social distinguishing requirements by the state by

the county by anybody else the only requirement that would be provided for social distancing would be created by us in this room that's why i'm saying that i i understand it's a guidance but we have to understand what what is guidance and what is a requirement and there are no public health officials so we need to let the public health officials do their job if they're saying the classroom has to get quarantined based off of this because this is what's reported from our district then we follow the guidelines and that's what they're doing well i'm not i'm not requiring about response necessarily i'm talking about um well i guess in this particular case i am but how we do contact tracing okay there is and we did agree that that we had voted on this

and i think it was unanimous as far as us um following state health and human services um guidelines in this regard and i do believe that those are currently at three feet if we had a policy that said we were gonna we were gonna report three feet potential close contacts within three feet to the county i'm sure the county would give us appropriate recommendations based on how we how we submit to them i i guess my question then is is to maybe mr brooks or mr javitski here on on do you need board's guidance on three foot versus six footer do you believe that you have the authority to make the best determination already for students there i mean there is some distancing requirements from dhhs um in in certain situations certain gatherings um our

state and you know the proctoring of assessments and all that included spacing in those situations the mask requirement still is in place for schools from dhhs as is our responsibility to report possible exposures as part of contact racing so there is that emergency order that does require us to do those things the distancing for schools we all know from discussions here at these meetings um we have the the freedom to go below six feet at a certain point um that's just on physical distancing but for contact tracing we're still following you know the guidance from the agency we have to report to per the dhhs order we report to the county health department their standard is six feet in 15 minutes still so so you're reporting every single student has a close contact i mean

how how are you i guess when that's staff works with teachers and other individuals whether it's an athletic coach or anyone else they worked together collaboratively to identify staff or students that were within six feet for a cumulative 15 minutes to a confirmed positive case so we are not reporting every student in every in every class especially at the secondary level at the elementary level we are looking at the conditions in the classroom what the students were doing and reporting that information to the health department who then provides the determination on any required quarantines and at the elementary level the the pattern has been um that i think they err on the side of caution the kid that's you know a group of 20 some kids in the same classroom all day together they're not

always in their seats they do interact a lot they do eat lunch together as a cohort and so often our experience has been that entire classrooms at the elementary level end up quarantined if there is a confirmed positive in their classroom so if we were to look at something like a three-foot standard how do we how do we implement that what what do we talk because we're already obviously we're already within six feet on the day-to-day operation of the school but if as some of the other board members had mentioned not in just in only this meeting but in previous meetings if we were to use a quote three-foot standard as part of our extended learning plan or our preparedness and response plan that i'm based on what you just told me it seems like

we would be implementing that when we're doing our contact tracing we would be a little bit more um a little bit less likely to report as many students if we had a standard that differed from the instruction receiving from the health department we would not be reporting per the health department's request for information or their direction regarding the six-foot standard so to my knowledge we're not able to establish a contact tracing rule separate from our local health agency however districts all over the state are currently doing that i'm unaware if any in ingham county are doing something different than the ingham county health department has provided direction on i think you're correct ingham county has been standing strong but the west side of the state and the east side of the state and the north

side of the state every place that isn't around lansing is moving in that direction so i just want to get my opinion out that i would like to find ways to keep as many kids in the classroom as possible and just about any um forced quarantine on kids based on close contact that has gone to court has been turned back against the district and the kids have been back in the classroom and back on the athletic team it has not stood up in court it wouldn't for us either if anyone wanted to fight it so i would say reduce that number and and follow the lead mdhhs has already said that they are not going to enforce that for any local health department either so i don't know why why we would well the direction

we have on the board now is to follow ingham county health department guidelines and so if we'll state guidelines which would then i think we call health department guidelines so if the board wanted us to do something different you would have to direct us to do something different well i would like to make a motion to uh a and the motion's already on and there's already motion on the floor so it's got to be voted on yeah i would i would make a motion to make a modification to the current motion i can do that right you can to to modify the extended learning plan to allow us to change our preparedness and response plan or are are reporting to the county to consider three feet as a close contact standard do you have your

verbiage yeah to adjust the motion adjust or amend to yes to amend the motion to allow the administration to use a three-foot standard for close contact say that again to use what a three-foot standard for determining potential close contact in reports to the county when reporting to the counties reporting correct positive case cases to the county okay so i'm gonna read it back to you to make sure you mr kelly made an amendment to the motion to allow the administration to use a three-foot standard for determining close contact when reporting positive cases to the county i say potential close contacts determining potential close contact correct and that is an important part of that because the state requires and miosha i believe requires um one of the three requirements in this regard to report all potential

or it could have been possible but i'm going to use potential here because it's impossible for us to identify every individual confirm every close contact that would be unreasonable um i think the term you used rick was possible i think possible and potentially pretty much the same thing the possible close contacts is the language in the dhhs order that we're required to follow so any likely close contacts and to my knowledge the miosha standard for employers was was still six feet unless they issued something different very recently no they haven't yeah that then in terms of a definition yes but in terms of how we implement reporting to the state which is what i'm trying to be very specific here um i'm not saying that that um you know i'm not saying that we overturn

that we change the definition of close contact i'm just saying that in the process that we undertake i think it's important that we consider something that that would be acceptable okay let's back up here for a second so we have a motion to amend the motion on the floor do i have support for that support okay move to supported now we can have further discussion on that as a practical matter i'm curious if we think that a reduction from six to three feet would reduce the number of students reported for an average elementary classroom it'll make a big difference in middle school and high school not elementary oh so it's only there that you're looking it'll only impact middle school in high school i think i think all elementary kids will still be considered close

contacts but middle school and high school it could have the number of kids that are sent home or more probably that's that's a guess based on having a high schooler and a middle schooler so further discussion well and i would point out too that we are on the sort of the declining again um stage where and and this actually i've revisited this myself just in terms of my own consideration on this matter as i've seen you know our testing results over the last three weeks um you know i've indicated that maybe maybe this is a time to consider this and again with the diminishing weeks in the school year i think every day is more important than ever to to be in the classroom anyone else and i guess just so i'm also clear on

this too what we're talking about is so the miosha requirement for would remain the same so any staff members anybody employed by the district would still be a close contact with the six foot rule but we're only we'd be using a different standard just for the students in the classroom then is that is that how this is because i don't know that we can by resolution change miosha requirement no but i'm not sure that miosha addresses the specific way that we report to the county i think they just have a definition of close contact uh maybe maybe they do maybe they use a six foot for employment for but but yes i would that would be my intention as well and that's based on our own experience here in mason in the in the rare

cases where we've had to report cases to the outbreak site we have not seen it continuing i don't think any of our schools have seen any ongoing cases which means that cases related to the initial report stay on that site after two after 28 days i don't think we've ever had that in mason yet to this point there have never been there's never been an ongoing case ongoing in what regard michael well when we report every case that gets reported to the michigan uh to the state it goes on that website the the sites that are you know cases two or more that are unrelated you know outside of the school there's a second section of that it's called ongoing cases and those ongoing cases are cases that are connected to the original cases um

that have you know that remain so they remain or they they they're ongoing basically that's the true outbreak is when you see an ongoing case it's related to the original report so i've not seen that um i've also seen you know positive results successful i guess um low positivity rates with our our testing that we've been doing which presumably would be a good you know gauge for for all young people in the community um yeah it was just the ongoing cases um so our own experiences here give me confidence that this could be a time to do this you know the the outbreak reporting for schools um when when there's a new outbreak or what's considered or a likely outbreak and that's associated cases maybe from the same classroom for example those get reported the

next week they move down to the ongoing list it doesn't mean that there's more cases associated with that if it gets reported with three cases initially and it makes the list um you know the next week or while those cases are active still while those individuals are considered positive it remains on the ongoing list whether or not there's additional positives resulting from that original group and in our case we've had a few make the list whether or not they transmitted here at school hasn't been confirmed some of the individuals did have associations away from school but my understanding of the ongoing list are just in the days or i'm sorry the week after the initial report the top of the that report is usually all the new cases ongoing are the ones that are still

active or they're still ill individuals and it stays on the list until those are closed yeah i don't have this it could be 14 days before they move down to ongoing i don't know but after 28 days i think they are removed in most cases kids in our case those kids that were originally on the list are back in school before they're even off that list and they'll have they haven't the ongoing cases i guess a better way of saying this i don't believe that those have increased like we didn't start with two and it doesn't go up to three or four when it gets down on or or new cases um are being added because of those original cases and that's a testament really to what we've been able to do um and you

know to this point and i don't think that this would um change that frankly i think that you know we're the ones ultimately that are responsible for educating our kids and and if we don't make these types of decisions nobody nobody else can all right we set the vote on the amendment not the motion but the amendment mr dwayne no myself miss evans no mr o'connor no mr kelly yes mr creamer no and mr mumby yes uh so amendment fails two to four so we're back to the original motion to approve uh the the cloven learning plan to any further discussion on that i would just uh on a different matter but it's related to this some things have changed since our policy and curriculum meeting regarding antigen testing and i guess i would like

to put out some as some questions of the administration regarding moving forward how that's going to be handled since the relative to the most recent health department would that would that be part of our extended coping learning class engine testing i would say no no but it could be right i mean if we want to put that in there is something i just want i just my question is how we're going to be handling that moving forward is there any are we just going to be following strictly the requirements the new requirements um you know what that's all but again if that's not part of it that discussion should come up under other matters i think the only part that might be related is if some if we have students that are fully vaccinated they

should they don't have to quarantine now is that correct do we understand that or do we have to amend this to allow them to exempt themselves from antigen testing and not be sent home i am aware that high school students that are completed with their vaccination have been instructed by some area districts i'd have to double check with ours if we've received that confirmation yet but they've been exempted from future antigen testing right and of course anybody who's vaccinated is exempted from the quarantine requirement so we don't need to amend this to allow say athletes who are two plus weeks past their last dose correct to skip those now okay that's already been instructed by the state that came out last week i know but i didn't know if we had to give them permission

to follow that because well we've given them permission to follow state guidelines period so they do have permission to follow that i guess that's a plug for vaccinations so more students and athletes that get to get vaccinated the easier the whole they dropped it to 12 years old today pardon they dropped it to 12 year olds okay so age group i believe there is a cdc advisory committee that needs to give it a thumbs up as well and then it's likely will be available very shortly so we're by the book in this regard at the moment we're what we're by the book essentially at this at this point okay which is fine i mean i i don't have issues with that um the only other uh aspect i would bring up would be again potentially

extending um and i'm i guess i'm asking other board members here if this is something that that would that we would be comfortable with and that's extending the option and the opportunity for quarantined families to participate in our energy testing program and i'm not suggesting that we bring them back early or anything like that just simply an access to a test um you know as a parent that's the first thing that goes through my mind when my child is when i'm told that they're a potential close contact so um you know are you asking for the students and families that are quarantined from our classrooms for them to have access to the antigen testing on thursdays yeah or or i i would i wouldn't suggest that they show up and get in the same line

as everybody else because there's places in the community that offer them perhaps my son was quarantined well i know that but i'm just saying the most convenient place for them is at the school that they're you know from the school district that they've just been you know um prevented from attending so i think that that would be a i'm not i don't believe that that would be a tremendous amount of you know volume it would really just be i think the right thing for us to do you know we're making i'm not going to say arbitrary decisions but we're making difficult decisions that could be you know um questioned um regarding quarantines but i don't think passing an engine test is going to do anything so you pass it you still you're quarantined until the

end of the time frame whether you pass it 13 days straight or whatever it doesn't matter well it would it would offer peace of mind and that you know it would offer that's where the community will come in because so my son and i'll just give my personal experience my son was was exposed on a wednesday we tested him five days later which is exactly what we were supposed to do in the health department said you have to finish out your 14. so it doesn't matter i understand that well the health department gave us guidance on that um and so unless it's part of an executive order from or a county order from that health department um or it's an adult or a work uh someone that we employ then that that quarantine is something

again that we're choosing to do that we could remove we could change to seven days after a positive test if we wanted to but we've already had that discussion and i'm not revisiting that okay because i don't think i'd have support for that here um but you know just all i'm just suggest i'm just saying offering the testing to me that just seems the right thing to do given the fact that that um you know we're preventing and in most cases if i'm not again if i'm not you know i could be wrong on this but every single time we've ever quarantined certainly in the elementary schools um there hasn't been you know how many of these i shouldn't say let me rephrase that i doubt highly that they're very that that there were um

a significant percentage of positive cases of kids that were quarantined um and so it seems like we're getting pretty far off we're getting way off topic i just want to offer i'm just suggesting and and again if if i'm not suggesting that we shorten quarantine or changed the plan to do that i'm simply saying that we offer another another time and place to offer testing to those families that we've that we've quarantined again i agree we should continue to look at all these things coming into the next year but i don't think we could even get that up and running in the next four and a half weeks and that's what we have left well we we test every week already i think we have a pretty pretty good handle on how to get that

done but i to me it's it's almost it's it's sort of an ethical issue for me you know we're telling kids that they can't come to the schools and yet we're not giving them access to tools that can that can help them even if it's just an assurance or a reassurance i see your point but i'm not aware of any instances and maybe you are where somebody has had trouble getting it and therefore the school would be like the basin of last resort for solving that it really sounds like a solution in search of a problem at this point i i don't i don't see it that way i just feel that we have a responsibility to do that that's all but i i i'm not going to make a motion we can move on

all right any any further discussion on the motions on the floor right now okay can we get a roll call mr o'connor aye mr creamer yes mr mumby yes mr kelly yes myself mrs evans yes mr dwayne yes hi your pirate over there uh motion carry 6-0 uh already hit on some of this but i guess introduction of other matters by members of the board just real quick good job on the joint recognition thing mr creamer and mayor whipple well done it's awkward because we're still in the zoom world but i thought you did a fine job thank you just wanted to give you kudos i much prefer face to face next year get back to our routine any other matters by members of the board i just uh clarific a point of clarification on

the um i know that out of the finance committee you had mentioned that that there was going to be some work on a sunking fund report um how would are you looking at preparing something in the committee and then bringing to the board or what how do you plan on approaching yes okay yes i mean like i think the kind of guidance we gave is where's our balance what are our inflows what are the projects that are out there kind of rated by most critical to least critical and so we can start to see maybe over 12 24 month period where things fall and no that will come to the whole board okay good any other items matters uh other matters by suit from the superintendent yes there's uh two on tonight's agenda one is

the ingham county isd board election um we're required to vote on their board members and that election is coming up in june here we have a a window unfortunately this board meeting does not fall in the window that we have available to us to select the representative which i think we designated already but to select that representative and tell that representative which candidate that we want them to vote for on first vote we don't even know the candidates yet the deadline was today at five but they have three days to rescind their application for a board member so by the end of the week we will know the candidates that are running for the isd board and but we have to meet again to make the decision as a board to select our first choice

candidate on the first vote for whoever we send to represent mason schools in june so we're going to ask the board president to call a special meeting um it has to be after honor after may 17th we've talked about a couple different dates actually we've talked about may 17 since we're all gathering together anyway or most of us for the uh ribbon cutting um we potentially have another issue that i think is probably in all likelihood going to be something the board is going to have to consider in relation to an expulsion so if that would be the case we would need a a little lengthier meeting which would be 7 p.m on the 17th which would be right after the community and staff relations committee meeting that starts at 6 pm that night so

if the board's so inclined now if we don't necessarily need the other meeting for the other issue we could pull together earlier at five and get this done ran in short order it's very quick you're just going to look at the candidates and select the so i would suggest um let's wait a few days and the meeting will either be at 5 00 p.m which would be a half hour before the ribbon cutting at steel or at 7 p.m here at the middle school if that if the board's in an agreement for that sound okay sounds good to me yeah i mean really the see they're gonna be a five minute or somewhat longer meetings depending on the time frame will plug it in where it fits best so okay so i'll get you notice

wednesday thursday of this week but if you could pencil in five or seven iran is chair of the committee i'm sorry community staff relations if we want to keep it just the critical issues that night for our meeting to to make sure we aren't running late the agenda looks like we'll be able to it's pretty much the staffing update so i think we'll get plenty of time to get that all done in an hour thank you okay we've also i've also called executive committee that that same day that same day as well four to five o'clock we'll be an executive committee to start to discuss groundwork for evaluation process correct yep all right and then uh get one other item on there that we'll need a motion on yes uh the choice concrete construction trades

um the policy and curriculum committee was updated actually the board's been updated via email in relation to this particular issue the the initial low bidder on the uh structural concrete project we could not perform so we did not enter into a contract with that firm due to a lack of performance like of the performance bond so we now have the option of going to the second bidder and chrisman has done that for us um they're holding their bid other than uh a few small items which uh is not significant in costs at all due to steel because of their the increased price and steel recently um we're very fortunate to uh um that they're able that they're willing to honor their bid that they submitted back in december and so we're recommending that we approve

um their their contract tonight um for choice concrete to um do that work its work is very time sensitive this is the first thing that needs to get done at steel their bid was a little higher than the first bid um i think it's about twenty thousand twenty thousand dollar uh uh up charge the contract itself is around six hundred thousand dollars so on a percentage basis it's rather low the close bids are pretty close um from the get-go um obviously this firm can meet all the uh requirements that they need to meet to to secure bid bonds and performance bonds and everything else and perform the work here shortly once once we start this work which would be probably even in may here if not super early in june because this is one of

the first things that we have to do out of the uh uh when we start at the uh starting line so you need a motion in motion yes i'd like to make a motion to award a contract to choice concrete for structural concrete in the amount of six hundred seven thousand five hundred dollars as presented support we've been supporting any further questions that you did you said upgrade but it it is the original second high it's their original bid yeah correct yes i assume that they held their bed yeah you are correct second highest um mr duane seconded any further discussion all those in favor aye aye aye opposed motion carry six zero any other items superintendent no other items all right public request for comments i see none i get a motion to enter

into closed sessions for the basis of negotiations so moved support we've been supporting roll call mr kelly yes mr dwayne yes mr mummy yes myself mrs evans yes mr o'connor yes hey mr creamer uh yes prior to going into closed session i'll just announce for the record that i do have to step out of the meeting at this point i have other obligation i have to attend to so i will turn it over to mr mumbi and we are entering into closed session at 8 30 and i just want to make sure you
