Okay. >> Is Linda not going to be here? >> Well, >> [clears throat] >> going to do a call to order. Um Welcome to the Taylor School District regularly scheduled Committee of the Whole meeting for May 6th, 2026. Where our mission statement is to educate with purpose, engage with passion, and power the future. And our vision statement is that we will create a welcoming and innovative learning environment that nurtures the whole child, embracing or empowering every student to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Um call to order is at 6:00. Um Ms. Shufelt? >> Here. >> Mr. Westfall? Here. Ms. Block? >> Here. >> Uh Ms. Fields? >> Here. >> Ms. Morris excused. Mr. Modarski? >> Here. >> And Mr. Morris is present. Can everyone please join me and stand for the Pledge of Allegiance? >>
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Okay, moving on to good news starting with Erica Smith and dealing with the Special Olympics. >> Um I don't see her, so we'll >> Oh. Okay. >> We have other good news if >> We do have other good news. Um if we could have Mr. Adam Brown uh join us talking about uh student representatives in at Holland. >> So, thank you very much. My name is Adam Brown. I'm the phys ed teacher at Holland. Um I was asked by my principal to share some good news, and it kind of took me off guard. So, she said, "I want you to talk about Kids
Heart Challenge." Uh those of you that were born before 2000, uh Kids Heart Challenge used to be called Jump Rope for Heart. So, it's a fundraiser that supports the American Heart Association. Um, this will be our 14th year here at Holland that I've run Kids Heart Challenge, um, raising over $50,000 uh, by the students at Holland. So, this year, um, we had a total of $3,381 raised, and all that money goes to the American Heart Association. So, uh, just a quick history, uh, Jump Rope for Heart focused on physical activity, and it always ended up in the gym for obvious reasons. So, Kids Heart Challenge, um, took over in 2018, and focused on more of a holistic approach of wellness and health. So, the students learn, uh, through a 2-week unit, um, about eating healthy,
uh, big push now for hands-only CPR, um, taking care of their lungs, so we talk about vaping and tobacco use and things like that, being kind to others, drinking plenty of water, and getting enough sleep, and also physical activity. So, we do a jump rope unit, and a PACER unit, if anybody remembers those days from phys ed, uh, which the students at Holland have really gotten into. So, um, this, like I said, this is our 14th year. We missed 1 year for COVID. Um, so, in the banner of the gym at Holland, we have banners streaming almost across the entire wall. The students, uh, get really excited to hang those banners. We have a little promotion each year that the class that raises the most money gets to keep our Kids Heart Challenge banner in
front of their classroom for the rest of the school year, so they really get in excited about that. Top fundraisers get to have Subway lunch with myself and our principal, Mrs. King, each year. So, over those years now, I'm excited to say I'm having lunch with siblings of, uh, for previous years, so it's it's pretty exciting. So, [clears throat] um, that's our good news from Holland. So, we, uh, are excited each year, right around February, we, uh, get geared up for Kids Heart Challenge. So, if you ever want to come by and take a look at the gym at Holland, I tell the students that when I get down to the end, I can retire, and I'm getting pretty close. So. >> [laughter] >> Like I said, uh just over $3,000 this year, and over
the 14 years, $50,000 has been raised for the American Heart Association. So, that's our good news from Holland. Thank you very much. >> And thank you for sharing that. >> [applause] >> Okay. And now we have good news from Erica Smith, uh director of special education. >> Good evening. Our good news from special education tonight is our Special Olympics, our Unified Day has changed just a little bit. We're focusing on our um more intensive classrooms, allowing those kids to get out and have a great time. We have a lot of wonderful volunteers that are coming. We've been able to get everybody shirts, and that has been covered by SO MI, um Special Olympics of Michigan. And we are just going to altering things. We're not having it be all day like we've done in the
past. It seems to be a little too overwhelming for many of our students, so we wanted to make sure that we were meeting the needs of all of our kids, and we pretty much have almost 100% of our students that are that were invited are coming. So, I think we're only missing maybe two or three whose parents chose not to send them, which is unfortunate, but they're going to have a great time, and we can't wait to send send you pictures. >> Awesome. Thank you so much. >> When is um Special Olympics? >> May 21st. >> Okay. Um moving it over to Miss Shufo. >> All right, moving on to um the revisions. Are there any revisions of the agenda? All right, motion to approve the agenda. >> Motion by Ms. Ms. Fields. [clears throat]
Is there a second? >> Second by Mr. Westfall. Mr. Westfall. >> Yes. >> Ms. Block. >> Yes. >> Ms. Fields. >> Yes. >> Ms. Morris, excuse. Mr. Medarsky. >> Yes. >> Mr. Morris. >> Yes. >> Ms. Shufelt is a yes. That passes 6-0. >> Okay, moving on to discussion item, starting with overnight conference, Special Olympics. And if you want to go right into the other one as well afterwards. >> Perfect. We can do that. All right, so back to Special Olympics. We are requesting an overnight trip. It's over the summer, so we don't need any subs. Um the cost is pretty minimal. It's a $35 donation per person. And for the most part, um Special Olympics of Michigan covers the hotel rooms. Um we are actually bringing a crew this time. Instead of about four
or five of us, we have maybe about eight, nine, or 10 of us. And the hopes are to increase the inclusion and the activities within the different buildings within the district to get those peer relationships going, get some great ideas to include everybody in different um activities. And to make sure that we got so close with inclusive um basketball. We really want We were there. We were having practices. We just didn't have enough kids. So, we want to make sure we've got some better ideas to get kids, you know, involved and included in those sports right from the get-go when school starts to get those teams rolling. And I also wanted to just give a nice little shout-out to Chris Symons, who was wonderful in helping us get our basketball started by um you know
making arrangements for practices and making sure all of our kids had uniforms too. The second one is for MACE. MACE is Michigan Association of Administrators of Special Education and um my assistant director Marissa McCray and I are planning on joining this professional organization and what MACE does is every year they put on a um kind of like a summer institute and they provide opportunities for leaderships leadership and collaboration and advocacy so we can really fine-tune our admin skills here in the district to really work and be beneficial for our students even more so than we are. Um we are looking at an overnight again with that one as well in Traverse City. Um this one is a little bit pricier. Um but it would just be the two of us and we are really excited
because one of the opportunities that we have is during this trip we one of the keynote speakers is Jimmy Kassis which is one of our keynote speakers for our opening days and I'm very excited to see how he's going to connect with um MACE on administrative special education and we're looking at attorney presentations um Department of Ed updates that will really keep especially in special education to help us keep updated and looking into looking at networking um and getting the most out of our our dollar that we can and bringing it back here to Taylor. >> Okay. Does anyone on the board have any questions? Uh I just have one actually regarding the, um, the conference. >> Which one? >> Um, the MAASE one. Thank you. What Is this your first time wanting to go
to it, or you've been previously, right? >> We have This is our first time. >> Oh, first time. Oh, awesome. Okay, well, >> So, we have to register to become members yet, so we wanted to make sure that we were good to go, so we can make sure we make that investment. >> Okay, well, if this board approves it, would you mind giving us a little update once you're done and all the the wonderful things you've learned? >> Yes, we're very excited because we heard it's been great in the past, and we wanted to join in on that and get what we can and bring it here, not just having other people around us in other districts have all the information. We wanted to. >> Awesome. Thank you so much. >> Thank you. >> Okay.
Moving on to mandatory HIV instruction curriculum. >> Thank you. The Michigan State Board of Education mandates that all public school districts provide annual instruction on HIV AIDS and the blood-borne pathogens at the fifth grade, middle school, and high school levels. This requirement is entirely separate from any curriculum that the C Ed may recommend regarding any sexuality or any maturation education. Today's focus is solely on the state-required HIV lessons. I had the curriculum materials with me. They were available for review at each of the last two school board meetings. Um, and I'm happy to bring them back out if anybody would like to see them today. Um, this is This curriculum is created in Michigan in accordance with the Michigan laws and a state-approved curriculum for teaching this specific content. You may also arrange a private
viewing by contacting your school's your child's school directly, and then they will, uh, schedule you for a time to come in and view the curriculum. While this curriculum is state-mandated, parents retain the right to opt their children out entirely. Any content in the curriculum that you prefer your child not receive can be excluded through a Taylor School District opt-out form. Taylor has also added a permanent opt-out option for our district form, which will be honored and maintained throughout any child's entire enrollment in Taylor schools. So, once that opt-out is created, unless it's revoked by the parents, it just remains in effect. I'd like to close with this. Taylor schools depends on parent community involvement to move forward effectively. We genuinely welcome your suggestions and feedback. I look forward to hearing from students and parents through
all of the upcoming surveys, and I encourage anyone interested in shaping our district's direction to consider joining one of our committees, including the CIAB. So, for tonight, I am asking the School Board of Education to approve the state required HIV curriculum, so that we can comply with Michigan Department of Education requirements. Thank you. >> Okay. Are there any questions from the board? Thank you for that update. >> Thank you. >> Um moving on to RISA budget. >> All right, good evening, everybody. Uh in your packets, board members, you do have uh the preliminary budget from Wayne RISA. Um I know we've also sent out information to your email accounts uh of different uh documents that they've sent to share along with the budget, and that they are having three upcoming meetings for school board members
throughout Wayne County, that if you wanted to ask uh RISA more intensive questions about their budget, uh you would have that opportunity to do so. So, essentially, how this works is um we have to, since we are all members of RISA here in Wayne County, uh we do have to take a vote, a resolution as a board, to approve uh the agenda that they have put forth. So, tonight, I'm making sure you have the information for it, making sure you're aware that you have those opportunities to go to those three meetings, and essentially, uh in 2 weeks is when we will actually bring this resolution forward for a vote. That way you have the opportunity to review the materials. Like I said, it's not like we set the budget for recess, so if you do
have those specific questions about their their budgeting, please attend those meetings and ask away and get the information you need so we can take that vote and move forward in two weeks. >> Just one question. If we do have individual individual questions as a board, was there a contact email to us as well that we could reach out to like a liaison? >> I I can get that to you. There is a specific individual Drew who is the person who oversees like the financial pieces and works with all the cooperating districts on anything financial, so I can get you that contact as well. >> Okay, can you get that to everyone on the board, please? >> 100%. >> Thank you. Any other questions from the board? >> Okay, moving on to student reinstatement number 1-04302026.
>> Thank you, Ms. Marshall. >> Okay. >> [snorts] >> I believe everybody got in their packet a review of the reinstatement of student one. Student one was expelled [clears throat] in March of and was recommended to go to Grand Alliance and counseling. During the time that student one was off, the um >> [snorts] >> she did enroll in counseling in December and has only been going to school for a month. So when she came to the reinstatement, the panel decided that first of all, student one is no longer a Taylor School District student. And when someone's expelled, they can apply for reinstatement at the district that expelled them or they could apply for reinstatement at the the district that they would go to. So those they chose to apply here for the reinstatement. So because
she is no longer our student, we wouldn't be taking her back, but the panel did vote that if we to recommend conditional reinstatement so that if she did move back to Taylor, the condition would be that she could only return online. However, at this point she's she's no longer our student, so it would be up to the next district what they chose to do. >> So, we're voting on a a what if situation? >> Well, you you can vote conditional reinstatement or you could vote deny reinstatement. >> Okay. >> Any other questions? Thank you very much. Uh going on to uh workers comp uh insurance renewal, uh Dr. Hill. >> Thank you. I am requesting uh board approval for our workers comp support of our claims administrative services and medical management services. Uh this is
not not anything new. This is how the district is supported. And so, I'm bringing it forth to the board for approval. >> Okay. Are there any questions? Nope, thank you very much. Okay. Moving on to public comment agenda items only policy number 0167.3. Is there anyone present here that would like to address the board about any of the agenda items at this time? There will be a moment for general public comment later on. Is there anybody online? Okay. Moving on to action items. >> [clears throat] >> Action item number one is the mandatory HIV instruction curriculum. It is recommended the Board of Education approve the mandatory HIV instruction curriculum which has been presented and reviewed reviewed during three prior public hearings. Is there a motion? >> Motion by Ms. Fields. Is there a second? >>
Support by Mr. Morris. Ms. Block? >> Yes. >> Ms. Fields? >> Yes. >> Ms. Morris excused. Mr. Madarski? >> Yes. >> Mr. Morris? >> Yes. >> Ms. Shufelt is a yes. Mr. Westfall? >> Yes. >> That passes 6-0. Number two is the overnight conference request for policy number 6550. It is recommended the Board of Education approve the overnight conference request to attend the MACE conference in Traverse City, Michigan August 9th through August 12th, 2026 for Erica Smith and Marissa McGraw. Is there a motion? >> Motion by Mr. Morris. Is there a second? >> Second. >> Supported by Ms. Block. Sorry. Ms. Fields? >> Yes. >> Mr. Mor- or Ms. Morris excused. Mr. Madarski? >> Yes. >> Mr. Morris? >> Yes. >> Ms. Shufelt is a yes. Mr. Westfall? >> Yes. >> Ms. Block? >> Yes.
>> That passes 6-0. Number three is the overnight conference request for Special Olympics policy number 6550. It is recommended the Board of Education approve the overnight conference request to attend the Special Olympics conference in East Lansing, Michigan from August 3rd through August 5th, 2026 for the following employees: Erica Smith, Samantha Banas, Janice Robinson, Stacy Masters, Zachary Odell, Natalie Rinaldi, Daniel Williams, Kyler Goose, and Lauren Hughes. Is there a motion? >> Motion by Ms. Block. Is there support? >> Support by Mr. Morris. Ms. Morris excused. Mr. Madarski? >> Yes. >> Mr. Morris? >> Yes. >> Ms. Shufelt is a yes. Mr. Westfall? >> Yes. >> Ms. Block? >> Yes. >> Ms. Fields? >> Yes. >> That passes 6-0. Number four, student reinstatement number 0104302026, policy number 5610.03. The review committee is recommending the Board of Education
approve the conditional reinstatement of student number 0104302026. Is there a motion? >> Motion by Mr. Morris. Is there support? >> Support by Mr. Westfall. Mr. Morris? >> Yes. >> Ms. Shufelt is a yes. Mr. Westfall? >> Yes. [clears throat] >> Ms. Block? >> Yes. >> Ms. Fields? >> No. >> Ms. Morris excused. Mr. Madarski? >> No. >> That passes 4-2. Number five is the workman's comp insurance renewal. It is recommended the Board of Education approve the renewal for insurance coverage for workman workers comp through Gallagher Bassett in the What? >> Bassett. In the amount of $46,230 through general fund for the 2026-2027 school year. Is there a motion? >> Motion by Ms. Fields. Is there a second? >> Second by Ms. Block. Ms. Shufelt is a yes. Mr. Westfall? >> Yes. >> Ms. Block? >>
Yes. >> Ms. Fields? >> Yes. >> Ms. Morris excused. Mr. Madarski? >> Yes. >> Mr. Morris? [snorts] >> Yes. >> That passes 6-0. Moving on is the consent agenda, policy number 0161.1, policy number 6470, policy number 8640, and policy number 2304. Minutes from the regular board meeting from April 22nd, 2026, consolidated items, payment of current bills, certified, non-certified, and administrative reports, out of state overnight field trips, and out of state overnight grant-funded conferences. Is there a motion? >> Motion by Ms. Fields. Is there a support? >> Support by Mr. Morris. Mr. Westfall? >> Yes. >> Ms. Block? >> Yes. >> Ms. Fields? >> Yes. >> Ms. Morris, excuse Mr. Nadarski. >> Yes. >> Mr. [snorts] Morris? >> Yes. >> Ms. Shiflett says yes, that passes 6-0. >> Okay, thank you so much for that, and
now we're going to move over to the superintendent's report. All right, thank you very much. Um, I just got two things I'm going to mention tonight. Um, I know we've heard a lot of feedback, and we've had a lot of concerned community members coming forward uh with plans for how we are going to uh work on the redesign of Taylor High School, and particularly concerning uh the swimming pool at Taylor High School. And I know when we brought it up last meeting, we stated that uh the board is going to see options on that, and that is essentially going to be a board decision in the end when we get to that point. So, I do want to clarify that I spoke with our architects, I spoke with our construction management firms, and their plan
is to come before the board, uh present those options on June 3rd at that board meeting. Uh not that that we would need to take a vote that night or do all those pieces, but you will have that information in front of you uh June 3rd to to to get moving forward and know where we're where what's best for your decision-making. So, the second thing I want to talk about real quick, and I know I put this plug in every year, and I feel like I I just have to every year. Um, I mentioned it a little bit last meeting, but uh one of the things, the truly great things that uh was a bright spot that came out of COVID, is our celebration of our senior students uh at Heritage Park with the senior
parade, the farewell parade. Um, and the reason I always like to bring it up at a board meeting is because it is that one true opportunity where anyone from the community can come out and celebrate our seniors and their accomplishments. You know, for graduation ceremony, because we're at the Sportsplex, there's a limited amount of tickets, so there's not much to go around where just general community can come out and be part of the celebration, and that is the beauty of having this parade at Heritage Park. So, I encourage everybody to get out there. Uh the only complication I notice is it's 2 weeks from tonight, which is also a Board of Education meeting night. So, um it is on the 20th, and uh I think it starts early enough that if we were over there
and we rushed our ourselves back over here, we'd we'd be in time, but um it is uh a week 2 weeks from tonight is when the parade is. So, I just want that out there for our community to be aware. >> And when does that start? >> I believe 5:00, but let me double-check. >> information on the website? >> Yeah, there should be at this point, but if not, I'll make sure it's up there cuz we want people to come out and celebrate them. >> Is there like can we adjust the board meeting so that we could go? >> Well, that's part of where I think if we report in time and we were to um like alter back an hour or something like that, I think we have that ability to do so, but
Mr. Cava probably can answer that real quick. >> Yes, so you have because you have a regular scheduled board meetings including the 20th you would have to make a motion tonight to amend that time when that board meeting starts and then that that for that meeting would have to be posted on the website. So if you take a motion tonight you can amend that time. >> Okay. Anything >> We would do that one during at the end of the meeting or now? >> Whenever I'm okay with you doing it right now during my superintendent's report. >> Well, I'll make that motion. >> I just want to know when that's all. Okay. >> So are we thinking 7:00? >> I would like to amend or make a motion to make an adjustment to the next board
meeting so that board members may attend that event. So I think so. To 7:00 p.m. >> So your motion is to amend the May 20th regularly scheduled meeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. >> Correct. Yes. Thank you. >> Second. >> Okay. I guess I will facilitate the vote. Mr. Westfall. >> Yes. >> Uh Ms. Block. >> Yes. >> Ms. Fields. >> Yes. >> Ms. Morris is excused. Mr. Medarsky. >> Yes. >> Mr. Morris is yes. Ms. Shuford. >> Yes. >> That carries 6-0. Next meeting. >> that's the first time we've taken a vote during my superintendent's report. >> [laughter] >> Hey, I'm totally good with it and that's all I had for >> And please make sure we communicate that it is an hour later to everyone in the district. Thank you so and
thank you for >> And we still have our legal reporting requirements that we'll have to meet and make sure that that's posted out there. >> Absolutely. Can we send that out on like parent connect and stuff too? >> Oh yeah, definitely. Okay, moving on to items scheduled for next agenda. Wednesday, May 6th, 2026. Good news and student representatives. Moving on to general public comment policy 0167.3. Is there anyone here that would like to address the board about concerns in general, questions, comments, praises. Let me just read my little thing here real quickly. Thank you for being here this evening. We value your participation and appreciate the opportunity to hear from our community. Public comment will begin with those in attending in person followed by our online participants. In-person speakers should come to the microphone and
state their name and address. Online speakers should use the raise hand feature to be recognized and please register via the barcode that is list that is shown on the stream right now. Uh please be respectful, avoid personal attacks, and limit comments to 3 minutes so everyone has an opportunity to speak. We'll provide and assist with time keeping so each guest will be able to monitor their own time and know when to conclude so all who wish to speak will have an equal opportunity to do so. If questions arise, uh the superintendent or his designee will work to provide answers in a timely manner. Please note that comments made by individual individual board members do not necessarily reflect the position of the Board of Education. Um this meeting is held in accordance with the Michigan Open
Meetings Act and is being video recorded. After you. >> Um Courtney Prout, 9846 Katherine. Um first of all, I just want to say that the QR code on the like sheet doesn't work. >> Okay. Thank you for clarifying that. >> there works and the one on the agenda works, but the one on like the extra sheet back there does not work. >> Thank you for clarifying that. >> Um and then also to Emily really fast, do you Is that going to be part of the like emergency card? Like the auto opt-out where you can opt out of everything? >> Nope. That's actually a good idea. I don't know if we can do it like in the MyStar or anything like that so they can do it right away. This would just be when you get
the opt-out form home, you can select if you want it to be just opt-out for this event or a permanent opt-out. >> Okay. Awesome. And then the other question that I had was um just in general, on the back of the emergency card, there's like that acknowledgement and consent. Um, there are three things there like to sign your name on. Um, the first one just says that the TSD doesn't need the following information as directory information, student name, date of birth. >> Courtney, sorry, could you slow down just a little bit? I was having a hard time hearing. >> Yeah, I was just reading that. It just basically just explains that you guys are deeming all of this stuff as directory information. And that's it. And it says like your students photos, videos on the
district's website, like a whole long thing. But it doesn't say and this is my question and I was just trying to figure out because I reached out they my daughter they had red day at school for um the autism awareness and my daughter was in red and they did not take her picture because they were giving it to you guys to be posted. And they said because I didn't sign that initial one that that's why. Um, and I was a little bit confused because at the very end of it it says that parents and guardians must give permission and those who do not want to give permission must submit in writing to the building administrator or superintendent and I didn't do that. So, that's why I'm just a little bit confused. I was trying to
figure out like that portion of it. It's obviously very misleading cuz I as a parent I didn't sign it because I didn't want to opt out of all of that. Like I want her picture taken. I want her on the website. And then this says I did and the teacher said that because I did not sign this that she was not allowed to be on the website. So, I guess I'm just trying to figure out what that exactly meant. It's on the back of the emergency card. It doesn't seem The other two actually say I authorize and I authorize as a parent so I signed those two. The top one doesn't say anything about me authorizing anything. It just says basically this is what we're saying and just so you acknowledge it. >> Could I
ask a clarifying question? Are you talking about like the yellow emergency cards, the paper cards? Okay. So, and then um you you did not opt in to have your child's information included in the directory but it was not an opt out for anything like any photo or picture. >> about opting in or out. It just says like just like basically just so you know the TSD uses this information as directory information. >> Okay. >> I thought it was just like for my FYI, here's your information, like this is what's happening. >> Okay. >> So I didn't do anything there. And then the other two I signed, but then that top one I did not. >> Okay. >> Because it doesn't say anything, like it's no authorization. >> During the re-enrollment process, you will sign a
specific technology photo release portion. >> that. >> So I'm not really sure that we are phasing out the emergency cards, so this is good information to make sure that we're capturing everything. >> Yeah, I just I just want to let you guys know because it my daughter was super upset when she came home because they were doing all the red stuff in her picture. What they made her sit in the classroom and not get her photo taken. And I was like I did not opt you out of anything, so we'll have to figure out what happened. And they said it was because of that emergency card. >> Okay. >> So just so you guys are aware of that. >> I just had a clarifying question real quickly. Um is so do you have students at
one school, right? >> Yeah, one school. >> Do we um do we think this is maybe just a one school not catching up situation or is that form going to all the schools that are confusing people? >> online stuff that wasn't in there at all. The online stuff like she said I filled out one that was a release of her photo and I filled out like a handwritten release of photo to the school on a separate occasion that she can get her photo taken. She's been pictured numerous times in other events. So I don't I don't know where like the but then they sent me that photo specifically, which does have an absence of my signature there, but again I didn't know I was supposed to It says on the bottom to fill it out
and give it to the superintendent if you don't want your child's photo released. And I did not do that. >> Okay. Okay, well we'll make sure we're all on the same foot, but thank you for bringing that to our attention. >> Yeah, no problem. Thank you guys. >> Thank you. Um anyone else would like to address the board? Come on up. >> Hi, I'm Ashley I live in Wanakia 6-year-old 53 McGuire Street. Um I want to thank the board there was some progress I noticed at the high school things getting done. Um I drive by there a lot just to see if anything's being done and I did notice like the gates being torn down and stuff like that. So I want to thank you for that and I also want to please encourage you
to keep going with it. Um, please, you know, let's keep moving it. The progress is is really important for our landscaping of the high school. So, I do see it and thank you and let's keep let's keep going. So. >> That's the goal, hopefully. Speaking it for myself and not the board. >> [laughter] >> Is there anyone else that would like to address the the board? Please come on up. >> Hello, I'm Lynette. Um, it's 7287 Mayfair Street. I just wanted to say thank you to Mr. Wager and Ms. Scope. Um, they did sign the co-op. There was like a time restraint on that, May 1st, and um, they did get that done. It was kind of down to the wire, but I really appreciate it and I'm excited that they get to swim um,
next year um, at their pool. And I did send um, Mr. Wager some information on grants that's specifically for athletic buildings. Um, that, you know, if they really wanted a gym, like that's something that they could use for that. Um, and I don't know if it's a gym or a big space with hoops, you know, would be more practical for you could use for a lot of things, for testing, for, you know, if it's a big space, for wrestling, for cheer, like just a big space, um, and then possibly for, you know, basketball or like volleyball, but it's a big space and it can be used for a lot of different things. But if you look at that, um, a lot of those, um, grants that I sent, um, I just feel like we should
look at that option before trying to take things away, um, from stuff that was not originally being taken away. >> Yep. >> Um, with the bond and and just to raise a concern that, you know, I was told that like we can't build on, but like in the big sports thing, you know, I just kind of said, you know, some of my concerns to Mr. Wagner is like, you know, some things we didn't have there. So like if we use our land and we don't have a gym, like can we build that? Cuz if they really wanted that with the athletics, I'm not sure why that wasn't included in the big um request. >> It's a good question. >> request. So, but I do want to say thank you. Um and my son is very
appreciative. He's excited. He was very worried that he wasn't able to swim his senior year. So, I just want to thank you. >> Thank you for bringing that up. I meant to say that in my superintendent report, but I forgot that part of it. So, I appreciate that. >> Thank you. >> And and thank you for sending those resources. If you guys ever see something like grant wise or some other fundraising mechanism for the school district, please send it our way. The the worst that we can tell you is, "Oh, we're already doing it, but thank you for being diligent." Um is there anyone else that would like to ask a very large donor to make that happen? >> [laughter] >> Is there anyone else that would like to address the board in person? Please
come on up. >> Hi. Uh Courtney Sutton, 23245 North Line. Just a quick follow-up question. Mr. Madarski, did you ever get the copy of those polling questions from last time? >> Yes, I did. >> Okay, cool. Are they publicized somewhere? Are we allowed to see them? >> Um they are public. I can I'm not Did we ever put them on the website? I'm not sure. I did not catch what the first part of the question was. >> The from the polling questions, cuz I know that you it was just a small sample of the population that was polled. >> I'll have to review. I don't see why we couldn't, but I'll have to review with the vendor who did that work before I can say that. >> Okay. Anyone else in person would like to
address the board? Is there anyone online? Going once, going twice. Okay. Uh moving on to board member comment. The views and opinions expressed by individual board members during this meeting are their own and do not necessarily reflect the official position or consensus of the entire Board of Education. Um, is there anyone that would like to make a comment? >> I do. I just want to reiterate on what Miss Snyder had mentioned about, um, you know, taking steps into, um, you know, taking away from our students. Um, and I am speaking on this, but just from speaking with my other members on the board, our goal is to never take away from our kids. We are moving forward with our district. We've continued to say over and over, like, we can't take away. We have to
give them more. Um, they can't have less than what they have now. We have to give them more. So, in no way, shape, or form, with this, um, renovation or anything, is our goal to ever take away. The pool was never up for discussion for us to be taken away. Um, it just wasn't part of the plan. Um, and I do want to thank you for sending those grants because, you know, any kind of grant that we can get for any athletic building, whether it's our current gym or, you know, whatever, a storage athletic building, anything, is, um, beneficial to us. So, thank you for that. >> Thank you. Well, and the whole thing with the with the pool scenario as well is Barton Malow, our our owners rep, they will present it's their job
to pre- so, everybody not panic, they will be presenting plans with a pool and without a pool. But, it's up to this board to decide which set of plans they're going to go with. So, when they come and present, you may you may hear or you may see, here's the plans minus a pool, but here's the plans with a pool. So, the board's given an option. And I have to agree with Stephanie because some of us have discussed. Our goal is not to take anything else from these kids. >> Okay, any other comments? >> Yes, I'd like to encourage everyone that's here, everyone that's online, everyone in the city of Taylor and surrounding area to come to the senior parade. It was born out of necessity. Um, but it's a wonderful event. And I think
the more support we show, the kids will have more fun. It's a time for them to be as loud and proud as they want. >> And thank you for that reminder. >> I also just want to touch on that that our senior parents need to encourage their kids to go. Um, you know, we have a lot of seniors that graduate and they don't all participate, but I really encourage our parents, um, faculties and members, if we know a senior, to definitely encourage them to participate in the senior parade. >> Okay. Any other comments from the board? >> Yeah, I just wanted to uh say what a great job the Taylor Foundation did today with their uh tea event. Um, I had the opportunity to attend it and it was uh way better than I thought
it was it could have been. So, they did a great job. So, a great job to them. That's all. >> Okay, glad to hear it. Uh no comment for me, so uh we will kick it over to Ms. Shufelt. >> Okay, moving on to adjournment to close session, policy number 0137.2. Pursuant to the Michigan Open Meetings Act, as amended, I move the Board of Education to convene in closed session to consider materials exempt from public disclosure under Section 8C negotiations of the act. Is there a motion? >> Motion by Ms. Fields. Is there a second? >> Second by Mr. Morris. Ms. Block? >> Yes. >> Ms. Fields? >> Yes. >> Ms. Morris excused. Mr. Madarsky? >> Yes. >> Mr. Morris? >> Yes. >> Ms. Shufelt is a yes. Mr. Westfall? >> Yes. >> That passes
-0. I move the board into closed session at 6:40 p.m. >> Mhm.
