Good morning, Maple Leaf. Welcome to the third annual fourth grade poetry slam. My name is Miss Bartlett. I will be your host this morning. Fourth grade students throughout the building had just finished a poetry unit in their language arts classes um around a book called Love That Dog by Sharon Creech. They've read and written a variety of different kinds of poetry um and as a culminating activity, they participated in this competition and were chosen from peers in their home room to read their own original poem here for you today. Special thanks to the ELA teachers, Miss McConnell, Mrs. Herman, Mrs. Fabita, and Mrs. Mner for making this possible. Staff and students, after you listen to all of our poets this morning, I invite you to vote for your favorite on the Google form that I

shared with teachers and staff. At the end of the day today, a winner will be [snorts] announced and will receive a small prize. Participants will all be receiving a certificate for their participation. Let's get a quick look of our poets. Come on up, guys. Say hi to your family. Wave at your teachers. Tell them hello. [laughter] >> All right, go ahead and head back to your seats. Without further ado, let's get started. First up, we have Micaia. Ma, what's the name of your poem? >> Anxiety. Micaia with a poem called Anxiety. Anxiety by Mica Wall. I hate my anxiety. It's really, really bad. It really makes me sad and mad. It doesn't make me glad. I just want to be alone in my room at home. I hate my anxiety. And I told you in

this poem, the loud noises makes me want to throw up. I don't know if it will ever stop when I grow up. My heart beats in the gym, my head thinking if I'll ever win over this anxiety. My stomach hurts. I feel like I'm going to burst. Please get me out of this horrible curse. It's getting worse and worse and worse. I just hope it goes away someday. I hate my anxiety. >> Very nice. Thank you. >> Was a good one to start with cuz I think we're all feeling a little anxiety right now. Um, next is going to be Cadence Taylor from Miss Wisblat's home room. Come on up. Her poem is The Wild Robot. The the wild robot is my favorite book, but the movie is not my kind of hood. I love

the adventures, but sometimes in the movie, her voice makes my head hurt. I love the goose, but the fox is when the fox is around, the goose acts like a moose because he wants to eat the goose. And the robot killed the goose's family on accident, but he has a new parent. I don't think he knows his parents are dead. That would be a total toll on him. He think and then he'll think robots are bad and that would be kind of sad. >> Very nice. Thank you, Cadence. Next is going to be Skyl with a poem called Love. October 20th, 2025. Love by Skyler Morgan. Love. You know, I've always thought you were passing by. The little selfish scheme around your eyes, the way you look when you say bye. But then there's me,

the little trying to be perfect girl. Everyone thinks it seems silence. You hear that? Nothing. Exactly. You hear nothing because it's not really true. The bad things that people tell me to do, sometimes you lie, but I lie, too. So what is there left to blame? My cat, my dog, the scary creepy Halloween days of the month when I icy fog. The movie that's made Princess in the frog. The wet love. The red love letters you give me that are filled up with lies. The messed up tie you don't even know how to tie. Sometimes I see fear when you tell me to look up into the sky. You say that you get hated on, but so do I. So there's nothing that we don't have in common to say the things that you tell

me to obey. You say stuff, but you don't mean it, but people hear it as a seat. You act like you eat perfect out of your bow. The way you stare deep into myself, including the lies I've been told as I then as I watch as he turns into a big beast. He ran north as I ran east. Hiding in a locker. As I fear, as I notice and feel my eyes water, as I tear, then gunshot as I I heard the screaming cry outside the door. But then I thought, you are not the person I thought you were. The person who I thought I could I could trust. And would it throw me under the bus, but I guess I was wrong. Then that's when I heard silence. No screaming, no crying, just blank.

So I got out and stepped with no pep in it. And I did not I kept and kept. Then when I was about to turn, he was right there standing with blood on his shirt. So I standed there in as in fear as I quietly stepped cautiously looking at the floor as I stepped scared that I was going to step somewhere that would make a noise. Finally, I got back surprised that he didn't catch me. It took a while for me for him for you to walk away. But then and then the matter of time I thought and I kept thinking as I realized love can't be handled by hiding it. It can't be handled by fighting it either. It can be handled by trying. And that's my poem called Love, illustrated by Skylie Morgan,

directed by Skylie Morgan, and writed by Sky. Very nice guys. Make sure you get close to the microphone, okay? So that it picks up your voice. I hope you guys can hear us. Okay. Next up will be Camille Grant with My Teacher. My poem My poem is about my teacher by Camille Grant. My teacher is the best. She never ever wears. She works hard every day and night to make me bright. She teaches me new things every day. And there is always time to play. She is like my mother to me. That is why I'm not afraid to be me. One day when I will grow up, I would like to thank her for never giving up on me. >> That was great. We should mention that her home room teacher is Miss Herman. Is

that about Miss Herman? That was so nice. Uh Ava Dan is up next with a poem called Life Can Be So Relaxing But Sometimes Not So Relaxing. Okay. >> Life can be so relaxing, but sometimes not so relaxing. Life can be so relaxing when people use kind words, not bad words. Life can be so relaxed when bad people don't bully good people. Life can be so relaxing when people use good objects, not bad objects like objects like guns, knives, and other dangerous objects. Life can be so relaxing when people treat other people like they want to be treated. Life can be so relaxing when people is is honest. Life can be so relaxing when life is honest with your actions. Life can be so relaxing when people Life can be so relaxing when you are

truthful and don't tell lies. Life can be so relaxing when people like you and I get along. Life can be so relaxing when people can talk to each other and don't have to go back and forth. Life can be so relaxing when everyone can have happy moments, laughing moments, crying happy tears moments, and not bad moments. and to the point where someone has to raise their voice then. >> Very nice. Very nice. Next is Corey Lumbus from Miss Roger's home room with my gray black cat. >> The gray cat by Cory Lus. The gray black cat is going to bed. I walk into the room. The gray cat wants to get pat his head. I love the gray cat. The gray cat is so cute and soft. She is so cute even when she coughs.

The gray cat loves me and I love the great cat too. The great cat is my favorite best friend and I love the great cat. I got the great cat when I was 4 months old. I named the cat Sprinkle and she has a cute. I used to have two cats but some other cat named Sparkle. I was crying for hours but on my birthday I got a dog and some flowers. My dog Nova and she's a big lover. Thank you for listening to us. >> Very nice. Next we have Cody Smith Seen from Miss Dunbrook's home room with my household. >> My household by Cody. I feel good at home. I play my game, eat dinner, watch movie, and spend a lot of times with my family. And going to parks and going over

loved one houses. Playing with my dog, he makes me feel happy when I'm sad. My mom, she makes me so happy. I love her. My dad, every time I need him, he always there for me. Him and my mom. My brother, we play football together. We play basketball together. And we ride dirt bikes together. Very nice. Thank you. And lastly, we have a poem from Halo Hundley from Miss Mner's home room. Unfortunately, he's absent today, so his friend Cadence is going to go ahead and read that for him. And you can still vote on that poem if you so choose. Come on up, Cadence. This is the poem called My Brother by Halo Hungry. My brother is the best. He make me food. He let me go with him everywhere. He take me places where

I like. He like to play with me on the game. The things we do together. It is fun. We help he help a lot with everything and I love him so much. This is the reason why I chose him because I love him so much. The end by Halo Dun. Thank you guys so much. Every year these poems get better and better. I'm so impressed.
