that your summer is off to a great start again we are diesel that was correct we are the fuel that drives the cultural response for the district you may not hear from us often but know that that we have boots on the ground and we are making a lot of um progress with this work throughout the district so I want to start off let's see thank you I want to start off just by introducing the team so that consists of myself I am the DI consultant for the district for those of you that may not know who are watching the live stream we have Mr Tim hurt who is the de learning coordinator which was a newly introduced role for the district this year and then k r who's a social emotional learning coordinator who
is unable to be with us this evening and so the purpose of this presentation is to highlight our collaborative work in understanding the importance of putting Str strategy to action plans look great we work we spend time planning but how are we operationalizing those plans and so that is what I intend to highlight in terms of the work that diesel has been doing so in the role as a consultant driving system change management is one of my key priorities that is creating comprehensive um plans intentional approaches and processes to really address the equity gaps that exist in the district what is meant by Equity gaps Equity gaps are simply simply disparities and outcomes so that could be a range of multiple things whether it's disparities and outcomes across the buildings across the district at large
Staffing things that were indicated in our Equity audit which for those of you that were around um it's been about 3 years since we had the equity audit and we try to use that data to inform our practices moving forward so for the intention of our work this year our Focus has been on examining institutional biases identifying what are the systemic barriers or the root causes to um these disparities and then also applying an equity lens to our work but also guiding your leadership across the district and in developing the habit of applying their Equity lens to their work that includes decision making program development things of that nature so here this is just a um it looks simplistic but a lot of intentional effort went into this this is also featured in your diesel
reports that were provided for you and for the general public that report will be accessible to you on the website following the meeting we'll work with Communications to make sure that everyone has access to that so in the systems change management process this just highlights the intersection of diversity Equity inclusion and social emotional learning across departments and so again it's not the sole work of diesel but we are writing that work and it intersects across department so when we look at the key areas in which we have undergone systems change management again this being informed by our Equity audit through conversations through data Gathering about the key areas and components that we want to focus on so across Human Resources um communication and Technology central office um K2 as well as programmatic and we'll get
more into highlighting those examples but wanted you to kind of see the flowchart of how we're touching across all of those departments so system change management and outcomes a business philosophy that I hold dear is in order to change the system you have to change the behavior of the system I'll say it again in order to change the system you have to change the behavior of the system so it's really cultural change management is a is a significant portion of this work changing how our approach to our work is in the district changing our thought process in terms of decision making things and making sure that we are fostering a culture of making informed decisions um increasing our data fluency and things of that nature so we'll start off with human resources I won't elaborate
too much um Miss pedig did a great job highlighting some of the systemic level work that we're doing and so again when I say the word systemic think of root cost not just service and so there was an intentionality behind all of the things that we focused on this year in collaborating with HR including the recruitment process um the review and revision of the Discrimination policy there was some language that needed to be updated and that was shared with you as a board during the December policy review meeting if I'm not mistaken um Equity audit of job descriptions our job descriptions just needed to be updated to attract more diverse talent and skills and also we included the equity statement in our job description so that when people are coming to apply in this District
they understand what this work is about okay di recruitment of perspective Ive employees so the intentionality behind how job fairs in the places where we sent representatives were selective not just picking things at random but being intentional to meet those recruitment goals I know um Miss king would often ask how are we doing with our diversity recruitment right so we wanted to make sure that there were intentional events that were identified to help us reach those candidates that we were looking to solicit and attract in the district and then Equitable job employment job excuse me interviewing process so really formalizing that process so that everyone has a fair and just opportunity when they apply for jobs within the Garo height City School District so really briefly some of the data that was gathered from HR
you see the recruitment event so the intentionality behind those events and the selection of that um as reported by the director um miss pigr the prospective job candidates there were estimated 100 individuals that were in attendance at about all of these events so when we look at the applications for from the event that came that represents the gold area and then the green area represents where we're at in the screening process it's important to note that this was as of May 15th and so I'm sure that the sourcing process that number has significantly increased as HR is still conducting those interviews and so that's quite um an achievement compared to years past for those of you that have been a part of the district we'll move on to emis which is led by Dr stit
and her department and and so really this year focusing on the development of the data ownership process is a really key and intricate part of systems change and what is meant by that is really getting the the leadership across the district and building central office to own their data understanding Em's role as just being the entity that houses data but making sure that every person um every leader knows how to access and retrieve their data and how to share that out and to use that data to make informed decisions so so really systems change and creating that culture of accountability on proper reporting accurate data retrieval it is highlighted in your diesel report the work that Enis has done in terms of providing that guidance through professional development on training leadership on how to access
the data where it's housed and not that we're expecting everyone to be data analyst but being able to interpret that data to make informed decisions so an example of visel and collaboration with Enis prior to the new em team coming into their roles this work trickled in from last year to this school year so Mr hurt and I had some conversations with our emis department because we were very concerned about the discipline data and so what we discovered through our investigation and research was that there needed to be um a system in place one um to address the misalignment of emis codes and how discipline reported so we said that a systems issue is that with the cods being misaligned that leads to inaccurate reporting right and so we know that how that has an
impact on us the district this is an ongoing continuous improvement process but it's something that we had to come together to identify to begin to move forward right to put proper procedures and practices in place to accurately record discipline and again when it's not reported properly Miss Dr stit sees that on on her end and so we want to make sure that everyone has some support for proper um reporting so again ongoing continuous improvement process but we want to make sure that we are putting these systems in place so at least when the next time for the equity audit comes around we can see at least a slight movement in that communication and Technology our work intersecting with Communications and technology so this year in working with the communications team they have really elevated accessibility
recognizing the need for our messages to reach larger audiences that might have barriers for example the utilization of alt text Altex stands for alternative text if any of you have looked at our social media updates the weekly updates or bi-weekly updates with Dr Reynolds you will see the caption you will see the alt text utilized we're making sure that that's in all of our internal and external facing Communications with the community at large to reduce that barrier also the application of the equity lens in District Communications so if there is marketing if there's messaging that's put out through social media Etc working with the communication team to make sure that it's culturally appropriate r k through 12 this year we introduced the framework of equity action planning and simply put it's just a process to
guide buildings and to really being able to put language to the work that they are doing so to the members of the board when you're asking what are what are you doing to advance Equity those who completed the equity action plans are able to artic and share how they came up with their priorities and how they're tracking their progress so it really was a great tool I wanted to just highlight and Shout Out Elwood because I was really um taken back at the intentionality behind their Equity planning process so they convened as a building and again you can see everything that they identified being carried out when you go through their building and talking with them and again the purpose is not just that everything in the equity plan is perfect it's being able to
identify hey these are some of the challenges that we're having and the supports that we need a copy of their Equity action plan is also in your diesel report and I encourage you to read through it so that you can really see the intentionality behind the work that was taking place in that building this year so as we move forward we're going to share some highlights of embedded systemic changes transforming culture and I'm going to turn it over to Mr her good afternoon Community same board members board president Dr Reynolds uh dismantling of the learn Learning Center so when I came to the district last year the Learning Center had been in place for a while the bla credit recovery system for the district but as atmin changed the Learning Center lost its way it
became punitive it became a place where we just sent the bad kids and the re behind that is or the bad thing behind that is once these kids made it to the Learning Center they never integrated back into the school they were never invited back into their building they didn't graduate with their class they didn't get access to resources College trips experiential opportunities so it really became a Dumping Ground for subjective behaviors there was no intake criteria or exit criteria for the Learning Center so once you were placed there it was there so what happened to those kids though they were given a label they became the LC kids and with that label carried a prejudicial respon resp to them they weren't considered Garfield students they were taught down upon by their peers and by
sadly by adults adults label these kids the LC kids and were afraid of them and that was communicated to the kids so we had to dismantle this program because the kids deserve a enriching and rewarding educational experience in their school district so as a result thereof out of this Learning Center being dismantled we created the BART program as well the Bulldog academic Recovery Center that is the Credit Recovery Center uh system for the district and people ask me all the time why did we just manle the Learning Center and I think I can sum that up from an email sent to one of our phenomenal teachers Miss Carla Saunders who is not only a phenomenal um English teacher at the high school 11 to 12th grade she's also the bar facilitator and she's also a
former LC uh teacher she sent me this email because I've been working with her to make sure that the kids that went back to the high school really experienced the high school and had an opportunity to be with their peers and enjoy the same privileges that their peers enjoy so with your permission I'll read the short email good morning I wanted to share the list of students who were enrolled in the LC last school year and had great success at the high school these awesome young people embraced the change and succeeded despite the negativity some of them endured most of these students sought out either myself or Ashley Jackson who is also part of the bar program she's the guidance counselor of the high school who's absolutely phenomenal for a safe place to land we
were there to reassure them encourage them remind them of their worth and redirect them if needed they did the work attended classes and senior breakfast knowing they belonged in that building quite a few of them completed senior projects Ashley and I attended their senior prom and watching many of them with pride as they enjoy themselves with their friends watching and cheering for them as they reive their diplomas was the highlight of my year so this is why we do what we do it's about getting these babies to understand that no one could put limitations on them you can label me whatever you want but I will have the self fortitude to move forward so a wonderful story from Carla Saunders and I wanted to add when we speak of the metaphor of disrupting the school
to prison pipeline these are the type of courageous decisions that have to happen to create that systemic change and so again that decision was made with convening with intentionality and we see the successful outcome of creating opportunities for students thank you m all right Intercultural development inventory so last year we had the privilege of going through this training and what IDI or Intercultural development inventory is is a psychometric assessment that's meant to measure your cultural competence where you fall in this spectrum and the reason why this was important for the district is there are some biases that we all hold that influence the decisions we make every day and we wanted to give the central office leadership a baseline on where they stood from everywhere from denial always adaptation denial means you missed the difference
you don't see other cultures if they're not interacting with you you just don't acknowledge them all the way up to adaptation we're not only can you adapt to other cultures you can be a bridge for others to feel comfortable that so we thought it was important for central office leadership because they're making the decisions for the district to have a baseline on where they still on this and with the IDI program it comes with a comprehensive plan that you can work to move from denial to adapation but what it really did this first year out was put everyone at their Baseline so that you can understand where you are what we want to go with this initially or eventually is that this I assessment will be offered to everyone in the district this work is
too important not to make this available because if they are touching our kids they need to know where they stand in relation to our kids all right so programmatic highlights again creating access to opportunities for our Scholars which is also suspended work these are all partners that were introduced or continu of Partnerships um through the diesel program and it's important worth highlighting um with our Community Partners and our engagement that outside of operations we were able to go after some grants and so we were able to bring in um financial support for our program and I think that that is very significant because you don't normally see that across um in a school district and so this year we were actually awarded a $6,000 Grant from the MZ Museum respect for Humanity for an anti-bias
project where we were able to provide professional development and um some exposures for our students which I'll highlight brief in a brief moment also the south of ha writing contest and contest our students were able who participated in that they were able to win grant money for the school and so that was to support programming and then $5,000 for Joy joyful literacy award in which we were able to do program in our elementary buildings to support literacy skills and so um we didn't include myom so that would actually take these over to the $122,000 mark in terms of outside support for progaming so the anti-bias project Bridging the Gap between Educators neurodiverse and neurotypical students this was a project informed by some of our students who are diversity Champions at the high school known as
Mosaic um I took so much pride in being able to help shape a proposal for this award and really we had goals and objectives that we had to meet the goal for this intentionality behind this project was to gain a deeper deeper understanding of ableism and for those of you that don't know what ableism is it's basically discrimination against others with perceived um different different abilities such as those who are more the students Express that they would like opportunities to engage more with those students because they tend to be isolated from other the General ad population because of their learning differences where they are taught in the restricted environment and so phase one we were able to bring in um shaita Miller to educate our sta or excuse me our Educators on the importance of
addressing bias and ableism in their delivery of instruction and how to really help scholarship actualize their full potential and so some of the data that we had gathered from this project we're asking to really understand like their understanding of ableism how that inter intersects into their daily work so we focus specifically on these two aspects of the survey because as you see it neutral it shouldn't be neutral really um in terms of the intentionality to include elements around for differently able peers to demonstrate their expertise and strengths we want to see that happening more in the classroom environment because because again every student has the potential to actualize their full potential and then also using person first or neural affirming language that simply means and when a person is differently able having the appropriate language
of how to address your student right so that's very important for not just in the classroom but outside of the classroom and so some of the learning competencies competencies excuse me that were achieved being able to identify ableism or behaviors when they're interacting with I'm differently able colle colleages and also those in the classroom setting and then really understanding what are the different types of neurodiversity and being able to really interact with a panel that had individuals who were not neurodiverse represented on that to ask questions the students also had the opportunity to interact with the panel during their assembly as well and so that was good exposure for them so I just want to share some brief highlights in terms of empowering change we had to create actionable steps and part of that is
to actively create um a list of Community Partners that we can provide more inclusive opportunities for our Scholars on both sides so when we look we reached a total of 391 students which is significant that included the number of students that participated in our Mosaic sessions our general Ed um assembly as well as the peer models who signed up to participate in the experiential process um outing which was the third part of the culmination of the project and so when we look at the amount of sped students that participated you see that we had representation from each building and again these were students who are in the restricted environment these students don't normally have the opportunity to go out into the community on these type of experiential experiences so in piloting this um we had
success no issues we saw um from our data Gathering observations that kids that might need more support in the classroom setting once they got acclimated they were really engaged no limitations it was a sensory friendly outing and everyone had such a great experience and Dr riddles Mr her can both attest to it because they had the opportunity to come on site and engage so from our student um data that we gathered understanding the meaning of ableism so there definitely is some work to do and that significantly will impact the culture particularly at the high school environment because once students become more aware of the ableism that they hold it develops empathy and compassion and how they engage and interact with their peers and that's also part of the social emotional learning piece as well also
connecting to effectively form positive relationships that is an area why why creating exposure is very important so that we can dismantle those stereotypes biases and even fears when we had a chance to talk with the students many of them shared like they're just these are these are our peers they're just like us they just have limitations but we're here to help them and just to hear some of the conversation see how some of the peers would engage to help uh um some of their peers that needed extra support with the art activities and different things it really was just great to see what they were learning actually put into practice during the experiential experience so with this this was an actually this was an actually great effort with our kids the high school students that
supported this work a big component of these was teaching tolerance is not taught nowadays to our kids as our kids get older and that hasn't been a focus in their formative years it's not something they develop naturally so we have to put them in a position in a place to learn tolerance and I always talk about this antidote from this STP one of the kids from the high school um while they were interacting with the kids we were asking questions making sure they were learning the standards that they were supposed to learn and one of the kids said to me Mr her these kids are just like kids they just need support the the kids I thought that was amazing coming from a 10th grader that is the hope of projects like this and efforts
like these we have to teach these babies difference is great yes so I want to share just a video of the recap um so that you can get a visual of what took place and again we're so grateful to our partners at the M Museum respect for Humanity as well as we rock the Spectrum we're live here at rocka spectrum and I'm so excited yet it's a little Bittersweet that we're nearing the end of our project this is the culmination of our inclusion project Bridging the Gap between Educators neuro diverse and neural typical peers this space is such an amazing space for our students to engage in adaptive activities and really a place to Foster inclusion and at this point I would like to introduce you to Alex who's the owner of We Rock the
Spectrum Mayfield thank you guys so much for hting here at we rock the Spectrum Cleveland um a little bit of background so we are an inclusive play space for children of all abilities so really the goal was to create a space where our children could play and learn and grow and develop um and make connections with others in a population that's that's typically underserved so we are one of over 150 Loc patients um internationally actually so our mission here is finally a place where you never have to say I'm sorry and that just is a great model for all families with children that are neurodiverse we find a lot of kids come in here that you know aren't typically accepted in a normal playground or might have tantrums and behaviors and um not everyone fully
understands kind of what the families are going through so we really strive to be a place where our children can come in and just be their genuine selves and not have to worry about being judged so the excitement started when they came Indo see their faces they had to look around it's just a a brief look and they saw all of the things that they had access to and once they got out there they were running all over the place and it was okay because they encouraged them to go ahead and this is a safe space for you and have fun this is something that's very memorable to to folks like me who are watching them I want to make sure that we are providing these sort of opportunities for our students and have a
little excitement not only just for this place but also in the classrooms cuz our kids deserve this we want to continue to this partnership that this is awesome we've loved having all the kids here they've had an absolute glass so it's been a really cool experience and I just want to say a huge thank you to the Garfield highight School District Yolanda Tim just such an awesome Mission and love what you guys are doing so thank you so much truly thank you to our community partner we rock the Spectrum for providing this awesome space for our Scholars to engage in adaptive play and most importantly we would like to thank the M Museum respect for Humanity again for funding our our anti-bias project without the financial support this would not be possible so we say
thank you and it is our hope that as a district we can continue to sustain this project to provide more inclusive opportunities for our Scholars again thank you okay so just to give you um highlights it was a very meaningful project and so I'll pass it again back to Mr Herz Mr hert who's going to talk about from operational strategy to action thank you Miss samon so we talked about system change management this is actually the boost on the groundwork that we do with each department teaching and learning we partner with them to dismantle The Learning Center as well as create the Bulldog academic Recovery Center as well as Satchel Paul um sat p is our we'll talk about that right after this they we work with uh teaching and learning to make sure that
that's embedded into every standard content so in P Services we supported them with their discipline exposion hearings guiding that process for them as well as supporting them on their family and Community engagement events sped we were supporting them through the mtss with our own here rice our SEO coordinator in K through 5 the behavioral cultural task force was a task force assembled by Dr Reynolds and we were going into the buildings to identify areas of need and then actively work with building leadership to sh of those places all right teaching and learning satch paulse again here uh rice has done a phenomenal job this year on really implementing this with Fidelity um what you can see on the board Satchel Paul for those of you who don't know is an SEO curriculum adopted by the
district what it does it becomes intentional about providing that personalized um support to the kids using the five competencies the SEO competencies so if you look at tier one tier one is our teacher Le intervention to satal pulse tier two is intervention managers and tier three is guidance counselors tier one all students go through tier one tier two and tier three are specialized de more with the subskills under the competencies to drill down on those behaviors if you look at this is a distri DAT if you look we've had some movement from the tears I'm sorry wrong one we've had some movement from the tiers we've had kids move from tier three tier two down into tier one and that's the direction we want to go we've also been able to identify kids that need
a little bit more so they move from tier one to tier two or tier two to tier three this data this essentially shows how each building performed in their satal polls and district compies and fison each one of these colors represent a building but these are the competencies that were mainly focused on inside their buildings and District impact schools that participated five students screen this $23.99 represents all the students this subskill assessment completed 1362 are the tier 2 tier three kids and then you have the students receiving interventions 97 so again thanks to miss rice for doing a phenomenal job on inspecting what she expected this year okay moving on our next category of special education so as reported by the director of special ed Mr Jonah Forte um regarding demographic data we wanted to
take a look at the total amount of students in sped versus and compare that to the total amount of students enrolled in the scholarship so you can see those numbers again with the raal demographics these are this represents according to um cross racial categories as to which students are receiving um or classify as special education under our district and again we're always looking at those numbers looking at the discipline data looking to see where those disparities are how we may um lessen that Gap so with all of that being said we want to thank you for the opportunity to present before you um it's been a pleasure being a part of this work and at this time I would love for to entertain any questions that you might have for myself for Mr her what's
the r for in recovery okay and then um do you have data on how many students um completed you mentioned a lot of them completed the senior project the ones that came out of the LC you have dat provide that to the board and and then the other question is the the students the other students that weren't seniors in LC do we have data on where they are and how they do so in the presentation I mentioned Miss uh Carla Andre and Ashley Jackson they've been keeping a comprehensive uh spreadsheet on all our LC kids returning back to the high school and tracking their progress making sure they're not fall in all in their efforts and really support them do that work that was our 10 I sure can any any other questions for our

of the majority of the board present in voting agendas are available to all who attend the board meeting the section on the agenda for for public participation shall be indicated noted at the bottom of each agenda shall be a short paragraph outlining the board's policy on public participation at board meetings we have one person signed up for um that has a comment for um this section and that would be Joanie wock I like your word comment it's actually comments I'm just kidding Joanie wanderstock 10905 Mount viw Avenue um I've been to enough board meetings to know that sometimes um there's a tendency to like lump things together and approve and I just didn't want just like last time with Mr trer I didn't want that to happen again tonight so I had to bring something
felt compelled to bring something to your attention I stand before you tonight with a really heavy heart for just this morning I heard the heartbreaking news that our district is losing to resignation yet another extraordinary individual however and without being disrespectful to all the others that have left before this one strides very different for me I first met this person when she was about 16 years old she became a student helper with my special education students and one of my favorite NHS members of all all time I was absolutely elated when I heard she would be working in our district because her heart never ever left here she was a teacher and then administrator and she possesses far too numerous attributes worthy of recognition for me to express in a three-minute time frame but what
sets Amanda Sizzler apart from all the others is her genuine love of this district and the fact that she epitomizes what it truly means to be a bulldog her level of compassion and passion for this district is unmatched she eludes blue and old and she is everywhere whether it be an athletic event a National Honor Society banquet professional development engagements and list goes on and on and on Amanda is most definitely one of the most visible members and active participants within our school environment in addition she is highly regarded admired and respected by both teachers and students alike for so many things including her strong desire to motivate others and make a difference in the lives of our students and that she certainly has I can only hope that you as a school board take
this resignation for what it is and that is a huge and irreplaceable and I will repeat Irreplaceable especially for those of us that truly know the essence of who Amanda is it's an Irreplaceable loss to our district almost exactly a year ago today I stood before you as a board and spoke about the mass Exodus a phrase I coined of employees that left here I even recited a quote that I first saw in a concentration camp in Germany which was if we do not remember the past we're condemned to repeat it yet here here we are losing another wonderful person last year the number of employees exceeded 70 and I'm beyond concern about the total projected for this coming school year I've been a resident of this community for about 30 years I also believe
that as elected members of this board I think it's imperative that you Enlighten this community as to why so many individuals in our schools have left here many of whom had every intention of retiring from the school district I've never wanted to be part of the problem instead I've always chose to be part of the solution and I would welcome the opportunity to sit down with you and discuss this manner especially since I know for a fact that many of our colleagues as many of my colleagues echo my sentiments regarding this departure topic as a district and as a community I don't think we can afford to continue losing so many quality employees in the resignation of Amanda I most sadden most of all for our students who will never know a person of her
caliber just today I overheard a few of them at summer school talking so highly of her yet another tribute that speaks volumes as to the incredible person she is and she will truly be missed one can I see one with the board has to vote this I want to direct to miss Daniel i m with Amanda but I would like to direct something nice to miss Danel I knew Amanda as a student and in keeping with my student teacher theme I would like to take this opportunity to thank you personally Mrs Daniels from the bottom of my big heart I would like to thank you for raising a daughter that I have come to know as a student just a matter of about a day and a fact and a half in summer school she

always lag a year behind the importance of this is a renewal Levy no no no new increases to taxes it's $ 5.35 million which equates to 12% of operating revenue for our district um ramifications if it's not passed is significant programming Cuts it's impossible to do our job without um having 12% of the operating budget cut thank you Mr O is there any other discussion right that was moved by Miss Cox and second by Miss Morrison could I get R call please Miss Cox yes Miss Morrison yes Mrs Daniels yes Miss Thomas yes Miss King yes right we're on to remarks from the public regarding miscellaneous School items all meetings of the board and board appointed committees are open to the public in order for the bo Bo to fulfill its obligation to complete the
planned agenda in an effective and efficient fashion a maximum of 30 minutes of public participation may be permitted at each meeting each person addressing the board shall give his or her name and address if several people wish to speak each person is allotted 3 minutes until the total time of 30 minutes is used during that period no person may speak twice until all who desire to speak have had the opportunity to do so persons Desiring more time should follow the procedure of the board to be placed on the regular agenda the period of public participation may be extended by a vote of the majority of the board present and voting agendas are available to all of those who attend board meetings this the section on the agenda for public participation shall be indicated noted at
the bottom of each agenda shall be a short paragraph outlining the board's policy on public participation at board meetings we do have two people signed up the first is Lisa granter a grand Force Grand Force yes um thank you madam president board members Dr Reynolds Mr oo um at first I wasn't sure if I was going to speak but then when I heard all of the names um I just want to give a sh shout out to some of my former kindergarteners Tania Maddox an annia Sadler Miranda Banks Brian Miranda Hae and natica Davis um who all were receiving honors and accolades um they deserve it they were great when they were five and they're great when they were 18 also and um just as importantly I think that I have known Paul Blazer longer
than any of you because he was also one of my kindergarten students so very proud and congratulations to you worked hard to deserve it um the reason I did want to speak is because of the concerns that I've seen on the news um from Channel 19 and also WTAM 1100 I believe that's what the other person wanted to speak of um we heard from Miss Hamilton that in order to change the system we need to change the behavior and that's something that has got to happen not just with Dei seal but also with the student behaviors because I experienced it oh I'm sorry I didn't to the beginning Lisa gr Forest 13121 Darlington Avenue I've been a resident for 31 years and I retired from Garfield Heights after 32 years of service here 34 years
of Public Service so I know a lot about the city a lot about the um climate of the buildings and what's been going on this is not a new problem uh when Dr renold first came um he had a meeting on August 9th with the new teacher or not new teachers with teachers that wanted to meet and we spoke I asked you to be our KN in shining armor and I encouraged you to get the teachers on board because if you have the teachers the community and the students big things can happen but you need to to have a plan and I spoke about the one superintendent that we had that actually made that happen and that was back in 1990 where everybody supported we got levies passed people were engaged people wanted to best
and we haven't seen that since so um um I thought we were headed in the right direction with what is happening now in the schools it's not just at the high school it's in first grade it's in kindergarten and it's not being de there and when you don't deal with things in the lower grades they snowball and by the time they're in high school that's when you're having CWS and people um is that my T um so uh Mr hurt you said that kids deserve enriching and ening rewarding educational programs they can't have that if they're not safe and secure in their classrooms and how can you feel safe and secure when fights are occurring and you might become a part of it or your teacher might get hurt or a police officer is assaulted
and out um you have to have that Safety and Security First and the kids just need support is what a 10th grader said to you the teachers also need the support they need the administration to back them and to help out when these occurrences happen and to have a plan in place not to just say handle it in your classroom some things just can't be handled in the classroom thank you okay thank you thank you one last thing Harry EST Truman the buck stops here you guys are where the Box stops thank you thank you and our third person I'm not sure if he's still here bob la bob la okay make sure all right um as we close our meeting this evening our next Board of Education regular meeting um will be on July
