Miles, I'm sorry. I was going to say the wrong name. Miles is here to help us with the Pledge of Allegiance. >> Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you, Miles. Um could I please get a motion to adopt tonight's agenda? >> I move to adopt the agenda as presented. >> Second. >> All those in favor, please raise your right hand and say I. >> I. >> All right, the agenda is adopted. Uh next item up will be the superintendent's report, Dr. Buck. >> Thank you, Board President Myers and Board of Education and everybody that's here in person and online. So, several good news things to share even though

it's only been a few weeks since we had a board meeting. Um so, all three uh high schools here in the district had wrestlers race uh wrestle at the state wrestling championship. This is the last year that the boys and girls wrestle in the same weekend. Next year, they'll be on separate weekends. But, we want to congratulate the medalists. So, Clara from Lee's Summit High School, who was the very first female to ever get a state medal in school history. So, congratulations to Clara. Um to Kaylee, to Barrett, and to Avery from Lee's Summit North. And Kenley, Grady, and Noah from Lee's Summit West. So, congratulations to these students and all their coaches and teammates. Um several LSR7 students have been named National Merit Finalist. Um so, congratulations to Ella and Paul from Lee's Summit

High School, to Braden from Lee's Summit West, and from Carson, Leo, and Reed from Lee's Summit North. What a distinction. So, congratulations to them. We have eight students, which I don't remember having this many before. This is amazing. You make it to Missouri Scholars Academy. Um so, congratulations to them. This is a a program for the 330 brightest kids between their sophomore, junior year of the state of Missouri. Um, they do it in the month of June at MU's campus. So, congratulations to Elizabeth and Nadia from Lee's Summit High School, David, Darcy, um, Bennett, and Isabel from Lee's Summit North, and Braden and George from Lee's Summit West. Um, congratulations to the 21 individuals who won the Lee's Summit R-7 annual award. So, we had our 12 excellence in teaching award winners, our three, um,

teachers in distinction, and our six finalists for support staff of the year. If you want to come join us on April 2nd down at Green Street where we will celebrate every single one of them and unveil our teacher of the year and support staff member of the year. Um, congratulations to Bernard Campbell sixth grader Beckett Griffin. For the second straight year, she's getting to go to Washington D.C. to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee contest. So, good luck to Beckett. Um, that's awesome. Uh, as they won the Mid-Continent Public Library Spelling Bee again. Um, congratulations to our students from all seven of our secondary schools who will be recognized at the Kiwanis Artist of the Year banquet on Tuesday, March 31st at The Meadows in John Knox Village. Um, we really appreciate the Kiwanis

partnership and support of our student artist. Good luck to Lee's Summit West Titan girls basketball. So, tomorrow night they're in the quarterfinals, uh, and they play in Joplin, Missouri. They play against Kickapoo High School. So, we were Lady Titans, we hope you do well tomorrow night. And you can watch it, uh, on a video link if you want. Um, you don't have to go in person. You certainly can go down to Joplin in person, but if you want to watch from your computer screen or TV, there is a link through Mid-Continent, you can watch it. Um, last before I get to a couple updates, it is Missouri School Board Association month. So, thank you to the Board of Education members. They get zero dollars for doing this. They are elected officials and they give tons

of their personal time and energy, um, to our school district at, uh, for no, uh, financial benefit. So, we really appreciate their volunteerism. Uh and then please come out uh for our fourth annual 100 people who care event. This will be next week Tuesday at 6:30 at East Trails Middle School. Um so, if we have 100 individuals come with $100 checks, one of our nonprofits will walk away with $10,000. So, how this works, we'll have about 50 nonprofits who wrap their arms around our community and help people out uh all over community, and we'll highlight them. We'll pick three at random, they'll give a pitch, and then we'll vote and pick one. So, if you want to come, please do so. It's at East Trails at 6:30 next Tuesday. And last but not least, there

is an election April 7th. Please vote if you are eligible and and and able. Um also, if you want to do it ahead of time, you certainly can. My college kid's home for spring break and took up the Independence on Monday cuz obviously they'll be in college on April 7th, so you can vote um with an excuse now. There'll be 2 weeks beforehand, there'll be no excuse. Um once it's 2 weeks ahead of time, they'll switch not just the Independence Square, but they'll be also the uh location on Woods Chapel. So, um we encourage you to vote uh wherever you live, whether you live in our school district or in another area. And that concludes my superintendent report. >> All right, thank you very much. >> [clears throat] >> Excuse me. Our first uh presentation

this evening will be spotlighting Lee's Summit Elementary School. >> My name is Tracy Sanders. I'm the principal at Lee's Summit Elementary. This is my 15th year as principal at Lee's Summit Elementary. And we are so excited to have our Cougar leaders and their buddies here tonight. With me I have Mrs. Megan Ringel. She is the assistant principal at Lisa Middle Elementary and I have Ms. Daphne Hack who's hiding in the back. She is our school counselor. So we're super excited to present to you tonight. >> Hello. My name is Ignacio Salazar and I am a fifth grade Cougar Leader at Lisa Middle Elementary. We are here to share with you our Cougar Leader program. At LSE fourth grade students must apply at the end of each school year to share why they feel they would

be a good Cougar Leader or mentor for younger students at LSE. The application letters are reviewed by LSE team to determine who will be matched with with younger students that have been recommended to have an older mentor. This year we have 15 Cougar Leaders matched with 15 students in grades K through five. K's through third grade. >> My name is Daisy Foster. I am also a fifth grade Cougar Leader at LSE. As Leaders we undergo two initial days of leadership and mentorship training before being paired with a younger student. Once that training is complete and the students are paired they meet each morning for the remainder of the year. >> Hi, I'm Dylan and I'm a Cougar Leader. >> My name is >> Leah Taylor. I am a fifth grade Cougar Leader at LSE. Cougar

Leaders coach the students we mentor for about 15 minutes after morning announcements. The Leaders are also available during the day to celebrate accomplishments with their Cougar buddy or to simply check in. >> My name is Philippa Twyman and we love being Cougar Leaders because we can help our buddy solve any problems that they're having. And we can help our buddy feel safe and have someone to talk to. We can also get experience working with younger students this way. >> Hi, my name is Hi, my name is Ellie and I'm a Cougar Leader. >> Now we're going to introduce our Cougar Buddies. These are our kindergarten through second grade and a few third grade students that have older Cougar Leaders. This is >> Kingston? >> And I'm Bella. And I'm Kamaya. I'm Emily. Madison. Gabriel. Harry.

My name is Lera. Uh Crane. We love having our Cougar Buddies because we love having a friend in older grades and they help us be successful. >> Hi, my name is Amala Burns. I'm a fourth grade Cougar Leader. We want to thank you for service to the Lee's Summit School Board doing School Board Appreciation Month. Thank you for letting us showcase our Cougar Leader program with you tonight. I cannot wait to be a Cougar Leader as a fifth grader next year. >> We're so proud of them. This is our third year having Cougar Leaders with buddies. They do an amazing job. If you ever want to see something that fills your heart, come to LSE about 9:20 and you will get to see all of these friends spaced out all over our building mentoring their

younger students. Great job, my friends. All right, at this time I want to recognize an individual that has been an amazing volunteer for LSE. Mr. Nathan Edwards, would you come on up here? He doesn't know he's getting this, so I just told him LSE was presenting tonight and he said, "Well, I'll come support that." This is Pastor Nathan. That's how we refer to him. He has started a church that meets at LSE in 2023. You're getting ready to have your third year meeting at LSE. The amazing thing is is that they volunteer for our PTA to help run booths, to run tables. They make cotton candy at our carnival. But, they've also started doing some other really amazing things. They send people from their congregation that are retired teachers and they come and volunteer with

our students um to help them with reading and math. And then it even got bigger. They saw we had a need and so every month they do, instead of what you would think of as a collection plate, they collect snacks. And those snacks they send to our classroom teachers every single month. Add on top of that, at Thanksgiving, they offer free turkeys and pies to all of our families. And now they've started serving a hot meal open to any family from LSE that wants to come and eat on Sundays. Pastor Nathan, we could not do what we do without the support of all of you um and your leadership. So, thank you so much. >> Thank you. Thank you. Thank Thank you. >> Okay, this month's secondary spotlight is Summit Lakes Middle School. >> Good

evening. My name is Carrie Harden and I'm principal at Summit Lakes Middle School. This is my first year at Summit Lakes Middle School, but we're very excited to bring to you tonight our group called Peer Inclusive Environment. This is a really cool program, very near and dear to my heart as a former special education teacher actually. And what these students do, they've applied to be in a program that helps assist and support our life skills students in our Summit Lakes building. We've brought along our teacher, Ms. Peck, and I'm going to let each of these students introduce themselves and talk about what they love about the program or something interesting, okay? >> My name is Eli Aarons and I helped the kids. I took them to elective classes and then we went swimming with them

every Friday. One thing I learned while doing PIE was I learned how to be more patient. >> My name is Peyton Dahmer and every Thursday we like cook food and one thing I learned is like how to help them without doing it for them. >> My name is Claire Knapp and I help them with coffee cart and one thing I learned is that like they're actually really funny and have a great sense of humor. >> I'm Emmett Lameth and I help with PE the PE class and I learned to let them learn and not just do it for them. >> My name is Rylan Arnold. I help restock the snack shop with the life skills kids and I've just learned that they are amazing and they're really really funny as well. >> My name is

Molly Ford and I help deliver packages and mail in the front office and one of the things I've learned is no matter how different somebody may seem they deserve to have somebody to relate to. >> My name's Addison Arnold. I helped with electives and one thing I learned from um like being with the life skills kids is um like no matter how how many times you fail like always keep going and that's what they truly showed me through their work. >> My name is Miss Pack and after starting PIE so this is our second year in the school having this program. Um the social skills with our life skills students has really improved and our community within the building has also improved. So just seeing the kids in the hallway interacting with our students is

super special and um our kids feel like they have more of a purpose within our building. So it's really great having these PIE kids and being part of the program. >> We're really proud of these guys. One thing I personally have noticed this year like I watch you sit with the students that you mentor sometimes. I watch you sit with them at lunch, and walk up them around, and um we're just really proud of this program, and I thank these kids for what they do, and uh the service that they're offering. So, thank you. And our next um spotlight is on our volunteer of the year. Um I would like to call up Sharon Corzdorfer. Sharon is Well, I'll wait and talk to her after talk about her when she's up here. I know she'll

want to be in the spotlight, right? Yeah. So, Sharon, here you go. Sharon's our volunteer of the year at Summit Lakes. She has been our PTA president for three three years consecutively, um and I feel really really blessed to have walked into that um hey, we went to high school together. Um but, B, she does uh she just does an amazing job of coordinating everything. She PTA's new at the middle level, relatively new, and I feel like what she has done is help give us a really firm foundation. She's got all of our spots filled for next year, so we feel very well supported with that parent teacher partnership, and we're very thankful to have such a powerful partnership um at Summit Lakes. So, thank you, Sharon. Appreciate you. >> Okay, our next presentation this

evening will be from our student board representatives. >> My name is Nora and I'm from Lee's Summit West. >> I'm Hudson. I'm also from Lee's Summit West. >> Okay, I'm just going to be honest, Dr. Buck already said like half the things that we have on our list. But, to start, um our co-ed cheer team won first at Nationals and our girls team also won first at Nationals for cheer. Um our women's basketball team is going to dis- or is going to state quarterfinals tomorrow and they are district champions. Um Trisha Carney and Hannah Mannequin were selected as finalists for teacher of the um for teacher of excellence. Um Rhonda Ireland was the Learning for Life winner. And 44 students are going to state for FBLA. And four girls plus our medley relay placed at

swim and dive for state this year. >> Additionally, uh Braden Cantrell was a National Merit finalist this year. Uh the debate team just won districts this past weekend and are taking 12 competitors to state. Uh robotics has its first competition going on this weekend and is looking to qualify for worlds yet again. The Scarbrough team placed third at conference and is going back to nationals for a fourth year in a row. Uh the student senate is organizing a mental health week centered around the You Matter night on Friday. There's a different spirit day theme each day this week. And at wrestling state, Kinley Harker placed fourth, Grady Mortenson placed second, Noah Patton placed fourth in their respective weight classes. >> Thank you. >> [applause] >> My name is Lindley Osborne. >> And my name is

Jackson Weed. >> And we are from Lee's Summit North High School. So, first of all, for the first time in school history, our speech and debate team won the gold conference championship and took first place in debate sweeps. Eight of our LSN basketball special Olympians will take part in the state competition on March 21st. Jayden Bailey will compete on individual skills, Max Burian in three on three mixed high school, and Brooklyn Moses in five on five mixed high school. This year, we have a dedicated LSN Broncos three on three unified partner team that will compete at state and is currently the only undefeated team in our region. Our three on three team includes Jeremiah Shelton, Jayden James, Andres Stratton, Peyton Tucker, and Ryan Christian. >> Okay, and our last few things tonight. Um our LSN

DECA team students are competing this week at state, um and we have already uh we already have two national qualifiers, Logan Wyant and Elgin Crawford. Um they received the uh school store of gold certification. Um and then our last bit of news tonight is that Jeremiah Menges was recently recognized as a para track and field all-American, and you can find out more about his story online at KCTV5's website. >> Thank you. >> [applause] >> Save the original Lee's Summit High School for last this evening. >> Hello, my name is Sierra Kiefer. I'm from Lee's Summit High School. Dr. Buck also said a lot of what I was going to say, but I am going to make note that all five of our choirs earned gold ratings at districts last weekend, which is a big achievement

and reflects the hard work and dedication of our students and directors. Our debate team also has had an incredible season. Four students are heading to state tournament, Maddie Pressnell, Phoenix Medaris, Evie Latman, and Reina Cadena. In addition to that, Grayson Helm and Evie Latman have qualified for the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions, also known as NIETOC in Minnesota. Uh this is a very prestigious national tournament that brings together some of the top competitors from across the country. Uh students at Lee's Summit High School have also been making a big impact in our community. Over 2,000 pop tabs have been collected for the Ronald McDonald House. Um for our student council, we'll be going to uh the state convention next weekend in Branson. And lastly, Mr. Muckey wanted me to add this on. Yesterday, we

had our power go out for about 2 hours, but we got it back um up in time to make it a Friday schedule. Our staff worked diligently to make sure all students got to where they needed to be. Staff stayed calm even without access to walkie-talkies or without knowing what was going on. Thank you. >> [applause] >> Sierra and Jackson, the rest of them already ran out, so I had to ask all of you. You want to just come up and talk about your trip to Jeff City at all? I know I'm putting you on the spot. You're not prepared for that. >> We should have put it on the paper. We'd have We would have had something to say for it. Um recently the um student representatives to the school board went up to

Jefferson City and talked to a bunch of legislate Excuse me, legislators as well as the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and I'll let Cia go in. >> Yeah, so like Jackson said, we met with a lot of legislators and elected officials. I knew some of them, so it was great to see them again. I got to meet John Patterson. I'm a big fan of him. Um and it was great. We got to see how the progress or like how the kind of it worked. We got to see the floor. Um we went to the Chamber of Commerce. We talked with them. I saw my my old friend Shawn Smith and his campaign director. Um and it was great [clears throat] seeing I didn't really know much about the Chamber of Commerce and what they did. So

now I kind of got a little grasp on what they actually do and the impact they make on us. Um yeah, it was it was a great it was a great experience. I'd love to go there again. Um yeah, thank you. >> I'll go ahead and one more thing. You hear a lot about experiential learning in the district and this was one of those things where it might not seem like that kind of thing to begin with, but being able to talk to leaders all over the state and that kind of thing was really informative to a lot of us students. So it's a great opportunity and we're hoping to see it again next year. >> And they did it with all the chambers in the Eastern Jackson County. So all the city's chambers went

with them and they got to ask questions and they were trying to learn about leadership and engagement. And when the Commissioner of Education and both deputy commissioners of DESE came, all the questions came from the kids. I think they asked about 10 of them. And at one point the commissioner looked at me and said, "Do you want to answer that one?" I said, "No, it's for you." Uh so thank you. I hope it was educational for you. >> Thank you. >> [applause] >> Okay. Uh we will jump on down to 5.01 board committee reports as we do not have a public comment this evening. So, with that in mind, board member Haley. Thank you. The since we had the last meeting, I attended dinner with the board, got some pizza, got to talk to some

nice folks about prop C, and then earlier this week we had the finance committee meeting as we always do on Monday. Dr. Nickens. Since our last meeting was actually just a couple weeks ago, we haven't had any committee meetings since then, but I did go to dinner with the board and um, that's it. Oh, I Oh, yeah. We uh, we went to Jefferson City on Tuesday uh, with Missouri School Board Association, um, and got some great information about education legislation, and uh, we're able to visit with uh, Speaker Patterson again. Board member Garrett. Thank you. Um, I too attended dinner with the board and got to speak with several constituents about prop C, and um, of course, I sit on the uh, Lee Summit Educational Foundation committee. So, the Taste of Lee Summit went off

without a hitch. It was great to see everybody there. And then just the robotics open house and that's it. Thank you, Dr. Johnson. No committee report from me. Board member Dawson. Um, yeah, you've already heard about all the things that I went to, which was um, the finance committee meeting on Monday. Thanks again to everyone who prepared for that. The advocacy day for the consolidated school districts of Kansas City. I didn't go Tuesday, I went to the prior one and got to meet with six of our LSR 7 legislators uh and talk about um school legis- education legislation. Um and then of course uh dinner with the board and our work session and um and I also went to the robotics uh open house. It was really great. So. >> As President Miller. >> Yes.

I attended the finance committee meeting this week as well as business round table and some of the other things that have already been mentioned as well. >> Well, thank you very much. Uh so, this 2-week window of time on my committees was quite busy. So, we know that I'm the one with the list tonight. Um so, in no particular order uh I did attend the dinner with the board at least Summit North and um I too attended the Missouri School Boards Association Advocacy Day this week in uh Jefferson City. Being a former government teacher, I always love going to the state capital, so that is no hardship there. Um government relations meeting um was we were the topic of discussion this this month. Uh Dr. Herzog came in and made the Prop C presentation for

um um for that whole that whole group, which is actually a Chamber of Commerce sponsored group. Um attended Taste of Lee's Summit um and then uh the business round table this week as well. So, thank you. Dr. Nickens. >> I apologize. Um I also was on the Teacher of the Year Committee along with board member Dawson um and I just wanted to say first of all, shout out to our excellent communications department for putting such a great thing together. We had over 100 um nominations and they were all remarkable and we just have a lot to be proud of. It was really fun going um after after whittling it down to 12 uh teachers who will be educators of distinction, right? Excellence in teaching. All of them will be eligible to interview for teacher of

the year, and then three teachers of distinction. Um and it was hard to it was hard to narrow it down. It was really hard, but it was a lot of fun going and surprising them at their schools. All of their students and colleagues were so supportive. It was just a lot of fun. >> Excellent. Thank you. Thank you very much. Okay. We will move on now to item 6.01. We need to approve the transfer of funds. Please, could I get a motion? >> I move to approve the transfer of $4,382,936 from the general fund to the special revenues fund. >> Second. All those in favor, please raise your right hand and say aye. >> Aye. >> All right, motion passes. Uh next step to approve the treasurer's report and payment of the bills. >> I

move to approve the treasurer's report and the payment of the bills. >> Second. All those in favor, please raise your right hand and say aye. >> Aye. >> Motion passes. Thank you. Uh next up is the consent agenda. >> I move to approve the consent agenda items as presented. >> Second. All those in favor, please raise your right hand and say aye. >> Aye. >> Okay, the consent agenda passes. Okay, items for decision. 8.01 is the Winrock contract. So, could we get Hang on, sorry. I'm trying to scroll. Um could we get the motion, please? It's It's way It's got to scroll. >> Yeah. >> I see it. Sorry, it was a long thing to scroll through. Sorry about that. >> Yes, the administration recommends that the Board of Education award a five-year contract with

a three possible five-year renewal options for RFP 2425-21 to Ornarak Holdings LLC. >> Second. >> Any discussion? Okay, all those in favor, please raise your right hand and say "Aye." >> Aye. >> Okay, motion passes. Item 8.02, the Network for Educator Effectiveness. >> I move the Board approve the renewal of the NEE agreement for the 26-27 school year at a cost of approximately $54,305. >> Second. Any discussion? Okay, all those in favor, please raise your right hand and say "Aye." >> Aye. >> Okay, motion passes. >> Aye, sorry. I was late. >> Okay, item 8.03, the Honest Game contract. >> Okay. Okay. >> Okay. >> I move that the Board approve the Honest Game contract for the 26-27 school year in the amount of $25,000. >> Second. >> Board member Garrett. >> Um I just

had a question. Hold on. Sorry. All right, with with this um contract, so the administration clarified that there's 1,357 students that are currently opted in. Um the contract itself is based on an estimated 5,000 students at $5 a student. Um if only 1,357 students are using the service, why is the district paying a flat fee that covers 5,000 students? Could this contract be renegotiated to a per user fee to save roughly around $18,000 annually? >> Good evening. Thank you for the opportunity to speak about this. Uh that is a marketing piece on their paperwork just to show how low the cost is per student. It's not necessarily an offer of a $5 per student to access this specific piece. Um it it it's marketing within the contract there of of all their offers. >> Thank

you. >> Okay, with there being no further questions, all those in favor, please raise your right hand and say I. >> I. >> Okay, motion passes. Thank you. Um okay, item 8.04, the compensation package for the 2026-2027 school year. >> I move to recommend approval of the compensation package for the 2026-2027 school year as submitted. >> Second. >> Okay, all those in favor, please raise your right hand and say I. >> I. >> Motion passes. Last but not least, you have written items of information, a building report from Hazel Grove Elementary, as well as a building report from Lee Summit High School. This will conclude our monthly business meeting. Thank you.
