011you I think it's important something everyone needs I would never want anybody to feel left out like they can't have fun at our school everyone should feel like they belong no matter what no one should be left out and we should all include others no matter if they are different because we deserve to be treated right everyone at the school should feel like they belong matter in school is a safe place for them everyone deserves those things no one wants to be left out and it's important to treat people fairly I don't want I don't like seeing people sad we've been thinking about what would help kids feel safe and included at Cedar Creek some of the things we came up with were making sure kindness is all around them if everyone is aware of
012inclusion when they don't feel included they will know how to ask for help or can ask the play with someone at recess decreasing bullying less drama to support Kids in Need knowing that we can help make kids feel safe and lastly having a way to talk to older students for advice hello I am Leah Dixon and I'm here to talk about some of the things we do at Cedar Creek some of the things we've done is we've made welcome posters that are hung all around our school we've helped we've helped we've helped welcome kids by sitting by by standing in the halls and and waving and saying hi to people we find ensure kindness and belonging quotes to share during morning announcements many of us many of us are mindful mentors that help provide calming

016you uh I think we do need to acknowledge that we had two canines within 10 feet of each of each other and they didn't bark at all I mean that's they're they're well-trained animals um about three years ago we revamped our uh student council and Miss Young took it over and she expanded leadership and contribution opportunities for our kids part of our club and advisory program so it's really taken off we've had more kids involved in student council than ever before um and we use them for like I said leadership and contribution but we also use them as a a way to gather uh student voice and choice so I'm going to have them uh speak they're the most important entities not me for certain so they're going to take it from here good evening
017we are proud representatives of Bernard Campbell Middle School about four years ago Campbell recognized the need to not only have a space for student leaders but to create cultivate and Empower as many students to be leaders as possible with that goal in mind our student council has built a solid foundation of student leaders by focusing on three areas of leadership Community involvement and school spirit and engagement each of our officers are for this eighth grade year Kayla molinasi Kate Steffes Lena Scofield and Bailey Burke will further explain our pillars in leadership we practice those skills that help us to become better individual leaders opportunities for public speaking with monthly visits to advisories Elementary School visits and events like tonight teach us Poise we practice our interpersonal skills and organizational skills when planning for events like
018Spirit weeks and dances as well as fundraiser fundraiser events and interacting with the community or student body but most importantly we get to have experiences that allow us to build our confidence where did I go and who we are from sharing our ideas and concerns with administrators and our sponsors to generating new ways to help our school these things allow us to carry that confidence into our everyday lives Community involvement encourages us to think outside of our own needs from having monthly Community projects and regularly partnering with organizations like Meals on Wheels to organizing a volunteer event with all four middle schools at the local food pantry these opportunities help us to grow awareness and how we can create change and make in a larger sense this helps us to be inspired and continue to
019be a part of our community focusing on school spirit and engagement is important because school pride only truly comes from its student body so we work hard to come up with creative ways to encourage excitement and fun in school we organize our spirit week days and school-wide competitions as well as put together our pep assemblies and coordinate selling and delivering candy grams to keep kids motivated and energized we also work to support as many different aspects of our school as possible the majority of us are involved in numerous school activities in extracurriculars and are often found to other school events to show our support over the last four years our student council has also worked to bring elementary schools that feed into bcms in our relationship with Lee Summit North closer to fulfill our goals
020of creating cultivating and empowering leaders we doubled our size to more than 50 students in our Council we added a leadership club for sixth graders and we commit to spending our advisory time three days a week to allow us to be as involved and effective as possible as Leaders of Mustang Nation to end tonight we'd like to leave you with a final thought about what the opportunity to lead gives young adults without student council I'd never have I never have the opportunity to show my brothers what a leader looks like and help them become great leaders as well the opportunity to work with so many different organizations I would have never been confident while public speaking about something I am passionate about I would have never known how to run a pep assembly and get
021my school involved thank you so much for your leadership fantastic all right now we will move on to item 3.03 and we have a recognition for our Missouri Scholars 100 for Lee Summit R7 school district seniors earned recognition for excellence through the Missouri Scholars 100 program Missouri Scholars 100 is a state Hunt is a Statewide program that honors 100 of Missouri's top academic students in the graduating class of 2023. 023evening as we do each month providing you with timely metrics but based on the schedule that we outlined and this month if you look at that right timed Matrix timeline includes NWA and Panorama as board president Kimmel mentioned it is also worth noting that as a reminder we have taken to each month providing an update on the csip action plans 2.3 and 2.5 with regard to those areas in the csip that we felt like we were maybe not quite On Target so how each building is doing that that will be coming on April 27th that usually comes the week of the board meeting but with the two board meetings being a little off that was the best timing for that to arrive so let's take a look first at nwea Spring 2023 data it's important
024to note that when we're talking about this particular nwea data we are talking about the map growth data map measures for academic progress right not our state map everywhere but the state of Missouri calls nwea map we call it nwea to avoid the confusion so map growth in grades three through eight in algebra when we think about what is taken through the company nwea in grades K1 it is important to note that that is not the same assessment and does not produce aggregate results so that's why we're looking in this 3 8 look so when we look at the 3 8 let's take a look at our math results and there are a couple of nuances to this particular piece of data as you can see we've got data listed three four five six seven
025eight in algebra noting that our eighth grade class does not include those students who would be taking algebra instead of 8th grade math you can see with the spring in that First Column spring of last year's writ was that was the 29th week of instruction due to our mtss process we adjusted the timing of giving our assessments this year so spring nwea this year that middle column was our 26th week of instruction and you can say despite that we really hung pretty well in terms of root score with regard to those couple of three weeks of instruction not drastically impacting that however when we do compare to the National percentile please note that that which is that far right column please note that that is based on the 32nd week of instruction so quite a
026bit of difference between the 26th and 32nd week of instruction as we make that comparison you can look to the right and you can look again at that 22 to 23 comparison of writ which is the increment in which nwe is measured similar to measuring like inches on a ruler and you can see that we have been relatively consistent and honestly if we extend past those two years it looks very similar when we move to reading same format same structure but I think here's a place to really celebrate because again we're looking at that 26th week in that 30 second week when you look at that middle and that far right column and look at that even though we are not all the way to the 32nd week we are at or above on most
027places with our reading scores in comparison to the National percentile data at the 32nd week despite us testing during the 22nd week or 26th week so quite a bit to celebrate there and you can see again looking over the course of the two years similar data one of the questions is to determine you know we had this little thing that we thought a couple of years ago might have caused a delay for some of our students and so we want to track our cohorts of students and take some consideration as to where we are in terms of growth and making progress you will see the asterisk at various places on that that was the spring in which taking nwea was not an option because we were in closure at the time of spring on WBA
028but when we look spring to Spring through the various cohorts those who were in fourth grade in 2018 those who were in fourth grade in 2019 those who were in second grade in 2018 we can look at the different cohorts as they're listed there and you can look and see what the mean writ of our district was at that grade level in comparison to what the norm is for that grade level and essentially what you want to do is essentially say are we staying on Pace essentially as a fourth grade cohort we were at 207 in comparison to the 204.8 right and we had the year or the spring in which that group couldn't take a test as fifth grade Raiders so then what happened did we lose ground in comparison to the National cohort
029well no we came back when they were sixth graders and they were at 2 15 and the nation was at 2 15 as well so there's lots of ways that you could look at this chart in more detail but it's a nice way to take a look to see did we stay in step with our national cohort as and what would be expected of us in terms of norms as we move through our cohorts as a group of students in comparison to the National norms Dr Barger I know it's not a slide but you shared some data today that was kind of exciting about Algebra 1 versus amped up to algebra can you just touch on that real quick I'm really glad I knew what you were talking about um the uh some really exciting
030um news uh came out of our ampdown algebra so as you guys know amdon algebra is the program in which we have business in algebra combined and a new new and unique way to to learn algebra and what we found today is that when we look at our spring nwea scores of our students who are in Mt on algebra versus our students who are in regular algebra our amped kids actually outperformed the other algebra students really speaking to the testimony or to the value of that program in year one you know you might have expected an implementation dip but we did not and any question as to whether or not you can achieve algebra Mastery in that format was really left resolved great all right so then we'll make a little bit of shift to
031the other uh item of data we're going to take a look at which is our spring Panorama you know that our assessment and Survey Windows move and sync those three times a year so this is also time for that survey data we look at Panorama in staff and student so we'll start with student and we have two grade ranges they do not take the exact same assessments so we've broken them apart we also report their data differently we have grades three through five and six through twelve and the surveys are climate equity and social and emotional learning but our Littles do not take the equity survey so let's look first at the the group of the littles the three through five grade students and when we look at spring fall Winter Springs so starting with
032last spring and moving until this spring we can look at grades three through five when we look at the general overarching category of school belonging and school safety we can see the these percentages are the percent of what they call favorable responses so if we want a kid answering yes to the question yes is a favorable response if we want a kid answering no to the question no is the favorable response right do you encounter conflict the school no that's a favorable response so that's what measures these percentages but what is worth noticing is when we go to the far right that puts us in the 90th percentile Nationwide with regard to the data you will see these are round numbers with regard to percentiles because nwe I'm sorry Panorama reports all of their data
033to the nearest decile essentially when we continue to look at grades three through five and we move to that social and emotional learning survey we can see that we have again those percentages of favorable responses 81 79 65 and 70 and again the 90th percentile in each of those areas in comparison to the nation very pleased with grades three through five grades 6 through 12 we do have some work to do when we take a look at the social climate and Equity survey that our grades 6 through 12 students take you can see that in the spring of 2023 we had 50 favorable responses to school safety which puts us at the 30th National percentile so we'll come back to that one 77 favorable for diversity inclusion which puts us at the 60th National percentile
03459 for cultural awareness and action again at the 60th percentile and a sense of belonging at 41 percent the 20th percentile so we're going to take a little bit deeper look at those two that are significantly low in terms of percentile rank this is the breakdown as we take a look at school safety and sense of belonging so why did we break them down well there are the two that are in you know below the 50th percentile we wanted to take a little look at what what exactly are we saying when we we look at those percentages these are the questions so for example how often are people disrespectful to people at your school responded favorably okay so that would be a infrequently that are mean to you know it's the opposite thinking how often
035do students get into physical fights at your school How likely is it that someone from your school will bully you online how often do you worry about violence at your school if a student is bullied in school how difficult is it for him or her to get help from an adult at your school how unfairly do the adults treat the students so that's the safety side the question is that form that 20th percentile score on the right with regard to sense of belonging how well do people at your school understand you as a person how connected do you feel to the adults at your school how much respect do students in your school show you how much do you matter to others at your school and overall how much do you feel like you belong
036at your school so we wanted to take a look at those individual scores those individual questions as those are what guide those areas where we have low scores and we know that some of the work to be done there is being guided through D teamwork we do also know that there is some work to be done at our secondary schools probably more so our high schools than our middle schools in terms of reiterating value and purpose and and answering the questions taking time to answer the questions being thoughtful with the questions there is probably some survey fatigue with some of our older kids involved in this process when we look at that same group of grades 6 through 12 and we're looking at the social and emotional learning component that brings us back up into
037where we would be hopeful to be or higher at that 80th percentile for self-management 60 for social awareness 70th National percentile for growth mindset and 50th National percentile for self-efficacy so that would then lead us to our teachers and our other staff Panorama gives teachers meaning actually in the classroom teaching teachers one survey and all other staff another survey when we look at our teachers in the classroom teaching survey we are looking at that column spring 23 and we're looking at student mindset at 79 percent they didn't have enough to do a national percentile at that point teaching efficacy at 78 putting us at the 60th National percentile the belief in their ability to effectively educate all students at the 50th National percentile belonging at the 60th National percentile climate at the 60th National style
038and then professional learning that they are provided around social and emotional learning topics at the 70th National percentile when we move from teacher to non-teaching staff look at school climate they're at the 50th National percentile and belonging at the 50th National percentile I will say that a number of our school D teams I think we've even heard a little bit up here have goals centered around reconciling differences between non-teaching and teaching staff and ensuring that those scores become more in line with one another to enhance that sense of belonging as it relates to some of those differences so while we've taken two very different looks at two very different sources of data collection I would be open to either questions on either and if need be we have Dr Siegen and Dr Wright on standby
039if we need to to get to some questions that may be beyond my understanding as well members do we have questions vice president for cheap okay um we have we have talked about panorama scores before and I think in other settings perhaps talked about um testing fatigue that you mentioned um and from I want to know have other than a survey have we talked with our students to see if they are actually taking these Panorama surveys seriously you want to take it so for the last two years I've asked superintendent student councils at each three high schools they say of course they do but their peers do not um of course I always love that answer but they say people rush through them um uh and and so that is something that we're concerned about
040right I will say that what D teams have done schools have done and Shelly Sanders can correct me if wrong if they find a lower thread then they start doing dignity interviews and they get a lot more detail and that's one-on-one and so that they get that's high quality there so this is a thread to find what thread to start pulling and they start doing those dignity interviews and that's where the building principles and their and their teams dignity teams really started performing their action plans for the for the next year I would also say there have been some structural changes made by building principles in response to some of that feedback thinking about am I taking this during advisory time where I feel like I'm trading off the ability to get some homework done
041and so I might hurry through the verses as they're dedicated time some of those ways I know that Dr Siegen Dr um Ms Sanders have put together sort of a video and we're working on expanding what that might look like sort of the why should this matter to you look at the dignity work that's coming in your building as a result of it because we know you know students will will value what we communicate that we value but also they will value what they see impact in their buildings and you know it's tough to compete with homework time too so sometimes changes okay thanks for the answers remember Sparks just a quick follow-up to the answer that was given to um vice president Richie's question is the when we're digging in if um for with
042those particular students is it mirroring the percentages that we're seeing before us so it's like the conversations there's the information of our digging in is it kind of now that I I have not been doing this firsthand but I know Miss Sanders hand so I'll let her speak to that okay thank you I appreciate that question because I think that's where like the heart of the work is and so what you all saw were overall percentages what buildings are able to do is when they get the question with the percentage next to it they can click on it and what it does is break it down by gender race ethnicity 504 IEP e-l free and reduced lunch and it allows to see do we have discrepancies Within These groups and so then we're able to
043Target what students are we talking about where is the belonging Gap Within this group and that's how several buildings got to support staff when they were able to break it down and look and figure it out like you know it it could be this group over here or that group it does allow it or if a percentage of the population is less than five we won't be we can't see those because they're identifiable so it could potentially pull some groups off of there so we aren't able to see them but yes they do drill down to those thank you and I I think I heard where we do identify areas that work is going through the D teams to be identified resolved discussed D teams and I think also just good principal leadership too right
044we're going formally through D team goals but even if it's not written in the D team our principles I mean there have been many a principal or a lead learner meeting in which I've seen a principal after this has come in grab Dr Kenny or grab Dr Potts and say look look what's happening with spring it's going up since we did X or since we did y so really just digging into what they know to be their building data board member Murdoch I wanted to ask a couple questions about the safety piece on the 50 especially where we drill down into the actual questions um two two parts of this number one is the third question down How likely is it that someone from your school will bully you online in the past we have
045had I would I would argue some probably not enough of the education nights where we have gone over some of the online platforms some of the signs to recognize the online bullying that might be going on do we have anything scheduled to maybe reintroduce those things have them more frequently than we currently do that would be my first question so I'm kind of looking at I don't know that I know of any unless instructional text got something I also I mean we can certainly get something scheduled I also think you've got something you know what's going on there you're right maybe she's got something planned I think in the past um also um at least some police department has helped with some of that and maybe Lee Summit cares as well I may be overstepping
046there but are there some events planned that you're aware of I mean I that the the impact officers work on that with the students I know the school counselors work on that with the students they work on that at the beginning they're required to train on it for a semester and and just really digging into that question I want to be clear that the percent favorable so that particular question How likely is it that someone from your school will bully you online the only person favorable is not at all likely or somewhat likely so if it says or slightly like likely if it says some somewhat likely then it's not a favorable person so you're in the red automatically so it's only a favorable percent if it's not at all or slightly likely okay so
047all right this this always happens to me okay so that brings up a separate question then right so now when a student is taking this particular survey and they're actually answering in that regard how are we asking students to differentiate even between what they would feel is slightly likely not at all do we help them understand how that question is even formulated that that's a really great question we just had a training from our Panorama representative last week with principals and he went over that with them and that is something that we're going to work on um we didn't realize that we could really break down and identify what those descriptors mean for students and so that is a plan that we have in the future for when we roll out the fall survey and
048then we will describe what those frequencies mean and detail so the students understand them better I think that would be very helpful um then my last point to kind of around the same realm is and and Dr Buck you can correct me for mine we've also had parent um times where we've helped parents understand some of the different platforms that continue to crop up right where we go okay well here's the top three four five kind of platforms that are currently being used by students some things to watch out for if your students are using those particular platforms on their phones whether it be you know Snapchat or Facebook or all the other things that I guarantee I don't know about are we investigating continuing to do things like that because I also think that
049those would be valuable so I'm about ready to volunteer Katie here so I'm wondering if that might be yes we could do an an evening event but I'm also wondering if that might be a speaker series option of someone's capacity because then it would be have a panel have it recorded and into some conversation earlier you know I I if I can't get up here on a 6 p.m on a Tuesday I have it readily available with experts on the panel so we can maybe put that in the mix in some I just think I I think the more that we can try to connect what our kids are seeing um on um especially their phones which typically is um where they are getting a lot downloading app after app after app that kind of
050thing I think that that could be quite beneficial shout out to Tiger news at plms who recently just did a quick little kids are saying these words and this is what it means kind of thing right because I would have just been well I would have been completely embarrassed right because I would have been like I have no idea right about what you're actually saying so I think those kinds of routine kind of things could be beneficial and could help even with some of these particular questions because it might spark conversations and conversations are good um in this in this particular regard then the last thing I this on these same on these same questions the bottom um question at your school how unfairly do the adults treat the students is that the same level
051of question that we just had on the previous one the slightly not yes it is yes it is so um the only person favorable there would been not at all unfairly or slightly unfairly if a student marked somewhat unfairly it's automatically in the negative okay yes that is correct I'm glad to hear that we're going to help out with how to interpret some of those particular things just to talk to your the parent conversation um I know that my middle school counselors have already said that they realize that that is a need as well and they are willing um to Dr barger's point if that's something that we start up that I know our middle school counselors would be able to help with those conversations okay okay and into Dr Buck's point I wasn't going
052to actually say it a lot but that's true right I mean I hear slightly and I hear some what and I don't see much difference right in terms of how we're going to Mark um an answer and stuff like that so I think so some more clarity around this is going to be necessary if we're going to continue using these particular surveys to actually glean meaningful information well that was one of the reasons we wanted to list the number of questions that were here as well I mean do the same with our two five and two three where we're measuring measures by it right these are all the percentages to these questions but when you get a certain you know when you get a low enough n for your questions that is driving the overarching
053then it only takes a few somewhats to begin to alter the overall score as well right okay thank you right any more questions [Music] I remember wrestling actually have questions about the nwea data um so I'm looking at slide seven that one okay so um the spring 2020 math and the reading um is that saying that's what the Norms were before covid or that year so nwe does not do live time norming meaning it is not the spring of 2022 we we kick it out what was the mean Across the Nation for that testing every handful of years I mean really that's about as regular it is every handful of years they will Norm it based on the data that they have at that up to that point and the last the best norming the
054last Norm they had was at that spring 2020 in comparison to reflecting Data before that so that is not a measure of the of the spring we were in pandemic that is the study that they did in 2020 that developed a set of norms does that help and then from that point until the next study happens we use the 2020 Norms because it's an aggregate of multiple years now given a pandemic that's a little weird right because because it doesn't necessarily account for what's happening after that but just from a research standpoint that's how they do it okay that is helpful um I don't really have a question but more a comment about when we view this data in the future I think this is is good to have a norm nationally I think it
055would also just me maybe I'm the only one but I would love to see some way we're presenting how our students are growing like I kind of see you know we're doing the cohort grades but I mean like is there a percentage we could tie to it or something because this data is so relative to the test itself I don't really have an anchor other than that national average to really understand are our students growing because that's what this test is supposed to measure right and the writs aren't necessarily incrementally grow and grow in incremental framework however I will tell you that there are two ways we can measure growth in NWA we measure you know how as an individual student growing we can also look at the percent of students who meant their growth
056Target so if you and I are the same age and you start at one level and I start at another level we have a determined rate of improvement that we would be expected to grow given our age and our Target our age and our current starting point and then it will tell us how many of us reached our Target even my target might be different than your Target or the other way around and it will count us both as long as we hit our growth Target so we have appropriate amount of growth and rate of growth for students so we absolutely can get you some of that data and should we move forward again later conversation in which nwea was a measurement that would be what we would the growth would be one of the
057ways that we would have to report to the state for accountability purposes okay yeah that would be great to see thanks I think we talked about too last time maybe seeing that year over year right having that track with the student yeah more closely so so to see what percentage so this chart but instead of status percentile growth percentile okay we can get that together remember Sparks both Ryan just said it quietly but I would say both okay um and I think it would be to um board member Essex point I think it would be great to have that data soon and only reason why I say that is because those are things that we can Champion as a board of being able to see our kids actually making progress versus this is not it
058can be difficult to really see if we're making progress because we can look at some of these numbers and we can say oh it looked like we kind of you know after you know we're taking a back seat or we're going backwards when actually our students individually are actually making progress and so I think that'll be great for the board to have thank you absolutely no other questions all right thank you Dr Barger all right we will move on now to item 3.05 and my child's will share with us the update on the lshs renovation project hello someone mentioned that it looked like a tornado crossed the front of it at least I'm at high school tornado it was a plane tornado how does Dr Harrison feel about that that's what I want to know
059right now I want to give context it was an insurance adjuster and a meeting in another state and his wife said I drove by and a tornado hit at least some high he said no no they're renovating it I'm sorry principal Harrison I'm sorry um man you got me thinking now because I worked on Tyndall Air Force Base when hurricane Michael hit it and I'm wonder if it's me all right well anyway um I want to start thank you to the board thank you for your service thank you for caring and thank you for taking action I appreciate you all I gotta give a shout out to vice president Richie my Junior High Principal I'm gonna say thank you for your encouragement through all this it has been awesome thank you having my Junior High
060Principal encourage us through this project so thank you very much but thank you to all the board for your service and all you do all right update the gray is the complete stuff you can see a lot of it is turning gray and it's it's just been an amazing process over two years of construction and finishing up here in four months it's just unreal I mean seeing the seeing that light is is awesome for everybody particularly the staff and students that are going through that every day but major Milestones um just hit us uh and I want to share some of that with you I'll keep that overall plan so you can get bearing um 50 Highway would be along the bottom of the page and then 291 would be up on the right this
061area here um if you can see the mouse that's Edition two so Edition one is what we completed first and that's what administration has been in and there's been the temp wall here um through this year you know through this semester and and in spring break that temp ball came down and we now have students walking across the addition to to get to the B building inside so that is a huge milestone and we are super excited about that um and the learning stair is is developing right there when that opens up um when they come back next year and all that is open on the first floor they can come out the cafeteria with some nice glass there to let some daylight in you know it's kind of been dark down there for many
062years and then they can go out onto this first floor outdoor space where they can see the fields but they can walk through the classroom into that learning stair area that's open and that library is up on that second floor it's just it's a very nice inviting space and it's going to be a great hangout for those students so we're super proud to see all that coming together you can see some of the classroom finishes as we turned over that spring break area so there there are people learning in there right now we just walked through uh the other day and and it's great to see the kids and the staff already utilizing all that space moving in using the library and its new location you see up in that this is that this is
063one of that new those new addition areas there and you can see that plastic up and that's that's protecting where that learning stair is still finishing up you can see this polished concrete here on the right picture and and you can't get you have to go out and look to get the scale of how big this Corridor is but the you know that was a big part of this project was to put that spine where you can have connections it's such a long campus to have that connection where you can have the a building the C building and the B building all connected and seeing that hallway is is just like you can't get the scope of that until you go out and look at it so I'm excited for y'all to get out there
064and see that because it's really neat to see how big it is and I I can see a lot of indoor practices I mean I I see people just wanting to run sprints down that hallway and and maybe some indoor tracks there in the future who knows um you can see the uh the store that just turned over uh cat corner and you and there are students in those classrooms as well so all the classroom spaces that we had in those additions are now being utilized so that's a huge win um you can see the picture down at the bottom you can see it's starting to come together but we've been showing you this rendering throughout and if you drive through now you can start to see what those metal panels look like and those
065gold fins look like and you can start to see um this all taking shape there's the Terrace so they walk across on the second floor that space is now open they're using all this inside now we're still finishing up the exterior and we're utilizing this space getting all this pavement poured and getting all this building skin on but this will be an outdoor Terrace space that they can they can access off of the library it's going to be very nice and the best view in the house uh I think Dr Harrison would agree uh right here in this corner when you go in the library and then you hit that corner it's all curtain wall and you can see the tennis courts and you can see into on the football field where that is and
066it's just an awesome View and it's just neat to see all that done and complete and they can access that now uh where that front entrance is um all this curtain wall behind is shaping up that's installed this in front here you can see this this panel uh kind of in this rendering here but you're going to have a metal panel in front of that you can see on the picture the steel that's going to be supporting that metal panel that'll go in front and then highlight that main entrance when it's all complete so that addition to that south portion the classroom spacer being occupied and we're finishing up that remaining Corridor and flex area uh the front of the building the tornado so uh that 1950s portion all that stick frame stuff went down
067um and that's that's all gone back to starting where that that a gym uh um the end of that AGM and so that that's the new that's the new end of the building and you're gonna have uh the another metal panel uh display in front of the building to give you that look off of the highway you know kind of it's got some fins in it and it'll kind of move with you as you're driving by and looking at that on the highway so it's going to have a nice effect when it's when it's all done but this in the pictures what it looks like now so that is planned and that is okay and it'll all get cleaned up and then we'll build something pretty right in front of it so um so all
068part of the plan um just highlighting some some more finishes and areas you can start to see some progress shaping up in in some of the remaining addition areas so they're looking good getting close uh more construction update there so we're in our last um we're in our last areas now um demoed out in the in the second floor West half of area B be building up here last area and then L the old library now that we've moved them out or demoed out in there and we're starting to put back finishes for our last remaining classrooms that'll give us all of our space that the students need so when they come back next year they'll have their you know they'll have their their final classrooms set up it's been a great undertaking and like
069four months left and Counting there's a lot to do you try to come out there this summer uh there's going to be site work like crazy so good luck trying to get around that maze because we're gonna we're gonna take over that site they're going to be moving those trailers out we're going to be doing a lot of Paving utilities all around that that campus so it's pretty exciting stuff and um I didn't know Dr Harrison was going to be here she surprised me but I do want to say her staff and her team and the students have been amazing I mean just watching the students just walk through and and just be so flexible and the staff um Dr Harrison you've done an amazing job and I I really appreciate her and all the
070coordination that they've done um it's been it's been a great a great effort uh from all of us and I just really appreciate our flexibility and all that she's done because it's hard to you know be in construction meetings and still go do your full-time job and and still coordinate with us and uh I just I want to say thank you for all that you've done because it's been an incredible effort and the staff has been awesome to work with so with that I will open it up for questions right board member Sparks no questions just comment outstanding thank you absolutely a wonderful job to your point I'm Dr Harrison and that entire teaching staff and the student body out there at least something have uh have to be flexible and I will tell you
071that they should be very proud of their new high school and that Hall is just imagine literally going to the Independence Mall and literally just seeing every all the stores shopping but that's just how wide and open it is and to be able to keep our kids in the building if that's what they choose to do instead of going outside and the other areas that they're able to explore is just awesome and the taxpayers should be proud we as a district are proud and you all as construction giving leadership to this project should be very proud of your efforts thank you appreciate that thank you vice president Richie Mr Childs thank you um I was up there last Friday night I'm helping set up for the Lee Summit High School Hall of Fame on Saturday
072night so um we got a little sneak peek someone offered to take us down the hall so got to walk down through the spine it was amazing it was just amazing I was just getting chills walking down there and being so happy that after all those years there's never been a walkway I mean even the old Breezeway between the cafeteria and what used to be div one at the bottom of the hill never been anything like that I'm calling it super highway it's just fantastic but I've got to go to the get to the bottom of those stairs and see the new and it was exciting to me the new journalism rooms because that's what I taught at least someone high school was journalism and English and and to see the new tiger broadcasting facility
073and the Yearbook and the newspaper staff rooms and everything was just uh our kids aren't just going to know how wonderful it is I mean they just don't know how lucky they are they just don't in all of our schools we have fabulous facilities and opportunities for our kids and you guys are making it happen so and thank you to our voters who voted to make it happen because it's it's just amazing yeah I gotta say my heart hurt uh as I almost I said I drove by and I said you're killing me Childs uh when I saw the front of that building uh torn off because that was my old classroom up there right on the front so anyway but it's gonna look fantastic absolutely fantastic I keep reassuring all of my classmates from
074the class of 19 you know 77 okay anyway it's going to be great thank you so much board member Murdoch he looked at me because he knows what I'm about to say on one on one end I was born in 77. um the uh first off thank you appreciate it I think it looks fantastic thank you to the staff teacher students I do want to voice just to make sure that we understand this is wonderful for the students it's wonderful for the staff but the chaos that has been created for two years I think needs to be acknowledged right to deal with the stress ever-changing situations um whatever sometimes the weather brought that then made them even have to change patterns again based on construction all of those kinds of things automatically added tension for
075students add stress to students to staff too by the way obviously and I just want to acknowledge that that has taken a lot for everybody to over for everybody to overcome I'm excited for their students and stuff to be able to call to have a little bit more peaceful and calm atmosphere starting this next school year and excited what that leads to so thanks Future Ready fantastic all right thank you very much all right thank you all right we will now move to item 3.06 it is April National volunteers month and I think is Katie going to show the pictures we've got some pictures of the volunteers I'll read a little um is it in there okay um tonight we honor and recognize all of the volunteers in our buildings or throughout our district you
076honor our staff and students with your service providing and extending our educational and engagement opportunities for every one of our students many are in the classrooms hallways district offices homes working hard in legislative advocacy fundraising activities Athletics readathons flipping Flapjacks feeding teachers and staff giving grants or reading one-on-one and that's just to mention a few loving on students engaging students and helping educate students you make this District an even better place for our students making them feel valued and ensuring our staff feels valued and bringing expertise and ideas that expand our district joining you all with 23 years of volunteer work and I know there are many many more in our district that have many more years of volunteer I'd like to ask you to stand if you've been a volunteer in our district to
077be recognized and acknowledged even if you're at home so happy month and I will add our seven build zones we still have volunteer spots out there I saw Kevin Whaley out there last week on Thursday volunteering out Woodland that we we could we still have some volunteer spots to help fifth graders build birdhouses nice recruiting Ed thank you 4.01 and that is our public comments and board member Murdoch can I ask you to share the notes with public comment absolutely for public comment tonight we do appreciate your attendance and willingness to speak to the board please remember that while this is a public meeting this part of the meeting does not contemplate a conversation between speakers and board members the board does not respond to public comments during the meeting but may ask clarifying questions
078your comments will be noted by the board and if appropriate we will direct the subject to administrators who are responsible for that particular subject matter pursuant to board policy bddh we will be limiting all comments to no more than 10 people with a limit of three minutes each your allotted three minutes will be counted down on the screen and please conclude your comments when the timer expires only those who have signed up prior to the meeting will be allowed to address to address the board this evening please refrain from using the names of any students or staff in your remarks remain respectful and ensure your comments pertain to District Operations we also ask all audience members to remain respectful also in a pursuant to board policy bddg profane language or comments that constitute a threat
079to the safety of others is prohibited lastly when your name is called please go to the podium and clearly state your name and organization you represent if any thank you and tonight we'll start with Aaron Gregory hello my name is Aaron Gregory and I am just a parent in the school district I'm here tonight to offer my full support for the District Library department and its mission and vision the recent review process for optional Library checkout books has been cumbersome for teachers and staff and a misuse of already limited resources those requests forms were something else calling for literal book burnings and one person wrote that books should not be allowed in our schools a-l-o-u-d to Echo a quote from a book removal supporter we overplayed our hands with the books heard no on book
080banners all day that day was April 4th when voters in Lee's Summit made their voices heard due process and due diligence have been served with a long list of books having been read reviewed and ultimately recommended to be retained student Choice staff expertise and critical thinking prevail this speaks volumes and it's time to listen among the rights of readers in our school district students have the right to read whatever they choose they have the responsibility to respect the rights of others to read whatever they choose I choose for me you choose for you what a novel idea word policy has specific guidelines for removal of Library materials none of which are personal beliefs political opinions religious views or individual preferences as a parent in the school district I am flabbergasted that people who don't even
081have kids in the district especially if they choose homeschool or private school which is fine but are trying to choose what books are available in our Public School District what's being taught and how our teachers do this job it doesn't make any sense anyone who has questions or concerns should check out the lsr7 library media services website for factual information and I ask you all let's trust and Empower our library staff with all their education and experience to do their jobs as we turn the page on this attempt at censorship thank you for all that you do next we'll have Lori beds is Lori here with us tonight okay we'll move on to Jacqueline Clark okay then we'll move on to Adriana Paez okay move on to Reuben Mitchell they brought some water I'm dry
082now so good evening I'm Reuben Mitchell I'm a dad in the district young family I'm not represented in the organization just by myself so my opinions are my own they're rather unique because I have an interesting career I've been in the administration of law since 2004 in various capacities uh at the local level on up and um in those 19 years I've come across a plethora of spectrum of cases from illegally fishing with corn to transcontinental criminal organizations trafficking um well so I need anything and everything in between and so as you can probably imagine the most disturbing cases are those with children and um of a particular nature just go with that it's been interesting that there's a commonality between these cases is uh there's a secret kept between the perpetrator and the victim
083usually goes along the lines of you know we have something unique between us and they're not going to understand many of these victims they never reveal this and you have to find out through other means some of them carry the secrets until um well until the very end anyway so when I hear about Seekers being kept between adults and children it raises the hair on the back of my neck and get the heebie-jeebies so that's the reason I'm here tonight is just to provide an alternative perspective the idea of of School staff withholding information from parents about their child and specifically for gender and orientation type of subjects so anyway like I said a very unique perspective one for you to consider thank you for your time you can have a minute next we'll have
084Morgan ball good evening my name is Morgan ball I have been a resident of Lee's Summit for the past 20 years and attended School in the LSR 7 District K-12 I have come here today to speak on the rhetoric that has been used in the frequent conversation surrounding books the past few board meetings particularly focusing on all boys aren't blue I've seen a lot of fear-mongering a lot of misinformation and a lot of behavior not conducive of adults in a public forum and quite frankly what I see frightens me as I have been keeping my finger on the pulse of this community I thought it necessary to actually read the whole book to see what would cause such a commotion and justification of terminology such as indoctrination which is a very big claim in doing
085so I read a book focused on a queer affirming family unconditional love and how to navigate trauma in a world that is stacked against black and queer people I saw a lot of myself in this book and I can't even relate as deeply to the material as a white person who experiences a lot of privilege that being said I related enough that had this book been available when I was the target age 14 to 18 years old I wouldn't have felt so alone I find it interesting that there has been such a focus on the sexual experiences of the author in two chapters of the 16 which were included because quote my greatest fear is that queer teens will be left to trial and error in their sexual experience it is worth me feeling a
086little embarrassed so that you all are a bit more prepared end quote I don't recall any pushback from parents about the literature my peers and I read growing up in elementary school about drug cartels and the violence surrounding them the dangers of possessive and toxic relationships surrounding a love triangle between a vampire and a werewolf or the sadistic killing of children for sport two of those should sound very familiar this book is not included in any curriculum it is available in the school library no one is forcing any student to check it out it is necessary to allow lgbtq plus students the access to material that they can relate to and it is their constitutional right according to Lambda legal restricting access to books or other materials simply because they deal with lgbtq themes is
087unconstitutional courts have held that restricting access to lgbtq materials such as requiring Guardian signed permission slips unconstitutionally burdened students schools may not Target lgbtq themed materials for the removal from library shelves members of the board I implore you to remember who your client is all students we must not put the comfortability of parents over the safety and well-being of our most vulnerable students from a boy who isn't blue thank you very much for your time next we'll have we'll have a slee whisker whisker Wesley whisker lsnea president tonight I'm here to speak about our teachers that are not currently placed in the salaries schedule step equal to their years of service and education I am here tonight to ask you to please reconsider this decision and make these teachers whole the fact is that gcba
088creates a scenario that two teachers teaching in the same hallway with the same years of experience in education can be paid differently this is inequitable when we identify and call these inequities out they should be remedied another fact is the plain language that was communicated for two years about phase one and two some of these situations have been pointed out by previous speakers I personally have never heard or seen any exclusions around phase one or two until the denial email started coming out the plain language of this phase one and two resolution clearly states these teachers should be included throughout the grievance process we were told that gcba keeps District admin from placing these teachers on their correct years of service we were told specifically by HR and the superintendent throughout this process that they
089could not make this decision even if they wanted to and that the board was the only ones that could if you read gcba in its entirety it allows these teachers to be placed anywhere in the salary schedule that the school district wants them to be which could be on their correct salary step for their years of service so we appealed all the way to the Board of Education then you decided not to hear it I must say we were extremely disappointed you should have been listening to our members facts so you could have heard all sides and made an informed decision it is heartbreaking to an employee that if they wish to grieve a decision which is our only formal way our only formal process to disagree you would have decided not to hear their
090facts I encourage you please hear our members grievances if they appeal to the Board of Education board policy GBM should be amended to reflect this furthermore gcba has not always been applied to everyone in the same manner in fact it is only recently that gcba has not been able to be waived when most of these teachers were hired some of their peers did get gcba waived a common argument to these teachers getting their years of service is they signed their contract when they are hired and accepted it that is true I offer this think about the scenarios who these teachers were in they wanted to come to Lee's Summit and teach our wonderful kids and be a part of a district that is being touted to them as the destination District I do not think
091any reasonable teacher should anticipate that there was an inequitable policy especially in lsr7 a reasonable teacher trusts that lr7 board policies are fair and will be applied to them equitably I am also sure that most were not aware that could even apply to have gcba waived or that others were getting it waived these teachers have done nothing wrong they have just continued to stay in our district teaching our great kiddos phase one and two applied to admin and most of all teaching staff this subgroup that phase one and two has been denied has been they have been marginalized and deserves the same as their peers and grubs hi my name is Kristen Grubbs and I'm here to address the importance of policies klb and klb AP these are the districts policies outlining the procedure for
092reviewing materials available in the district I recently received letters in response to my complaints over books that are available to students in our school libraries in these letters our superintendent stated that the board may consider revising these policies to establish a deadline for appeals to the board after the Review Committee issues a recommendation on reviewed materials let me share with you my concern with placing a deadline on appeals our first amendment declares my right to petition the government for a redress of grievances the Missouri Constitution Article 1 Section 9 States people have the right to peaceably assemble for their common good and to apply those invested with the powers of government for redressive grievances by petition or a monstrance revising policies klb and klbap to add a deadline for appeals truncates the grievance process that
093our federal and state constitutions afford citizens in this District it allows unelected committee members who are selected by District administrators to make the final decision on materials if the deadline is not met if the board is to reassess these policies and consider revisions I would suggest that the revised policy allows any citizen to file an appeal as it stands only those who have filed the complaint filed a complaint about a material are allowed to file an appeal to the decision made by the committee this essentially takes the power from the other citizens who may not have even known about the material until the review process began all community members should have the right to appeal a decision made by a committee of unelected members our elected school board members should have the final say in
094materials being reviewed within this within the district as our state and federal constitutions prescribe anything short of this depraves we the people from redress of our grievances I stand before you tonight to voice opposition to this idea of adopting a deadline for appeals I hope all board members those who will continue after tonight as well as those who will soon be sworn in will consider all ramifications of such a choice before going through the laborious process of revising District policy thank you all right we'll move on now to item 5.01 our board reports and meetings attended and let's start on the right side tonight so board member essling thank you well I actually don't have too much to report on the board report because I actually had a lot of work travel so I actually
095missed a couple of meetings so um just like most of us here I attended teacher of the year and support staffer of the Year ceremony yesterday last time sorry it's all Blends together it was great um I really enjoyed being there I thought the district and the staff put on a really wonderful event to celebrate our teachers and our support staff and I think um probably the best part of the the whole night was seeing um our lease it was at Lee's Summit North and I don't remember her name but she was a cafeteria that one yep Lee's Summit High she was celebrating and raising her hands and it was just it was amazing I was just so excited for her and I just thought that the new recognition program with support staffer is clearly
096long overdue and it seems very much appreciated so I'm just really glad we're doing that um and because I don't have any other meetings other than finance committee which I will talk about I just want to take this little moment to to thank board members um Kim fritchie and um Kathy Campbell for their service I don't know if there's gonna be another opportunity to do it but from me to you I appreciate your leadership you were wonderful mentors for this new board member and I just appreciate your service so much I hope you both continue to stay involved in the community because you are very valuable and I appreciate immensely everything that you've done so thank you remember Murdoch um one one item from me on Tuesday um I was in Jefferson City on not
097only City work that I do but also School District in regards to the possible landfill across from Summit Point Elementary and I just wanted to highlight principal Brooke Morehead who went down and kind of essentially proves what it be what it is to be a public servant and an advocate not only for her building her but for her parents her students she did an absolutely fantastic job testifying in front of the senate committee and so I really wanted to thank her and obviously a lot of the parents within our district who have been helping within that particular issue it was it's it's been it's been an uphill climb but I really appreciated in Dr Buck it was nice to see you down there too um as well I know that we each had kind of
098multiple things going on down there at the same time but it was nice uh and I appreciate you allowing principal Moorhead to come down there as well uh meant a lot and so that was fantastic fantastic the only other thing if we're doing if you started the the parade um so oh it's all good it's all good um president Campbell it's been a pleasure it's it's an honor um it's been great this past year thank you for being a leader on the board grounding especially me a lot of times on multiple issues including policy oriented oriented items processes that we need to make sure that we are following I really do appreciate it board member fritzy it's been a trip I mean if somebody had told us in 2018 when we started serving together what
099we would be going through in 2023 and the things that have happened in the last five years we could write a book and I think from our relationship as being board members it would be an awfully positive one and so appreciate you very much and I'm going to miss you so that that'll do it for me thanks remember Spark works I'm going to take the Liberty at this time not to report on any committees but my colleagues know that this last few weeks have been pretty rough for me and so I appreciate the support the latitude of the flexibility of allowing me not to be here and also District staff for the support the cards or whatever may be that you've done I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart and then to my
100colleagues president Campbell and to vice president Richie being a I'll call it a hot head coming on this board it was it was a pleasure of working with both of you and one of the things that we all run a race and in the race many people don't understand what is the most important things in a race it's not winning the race it's not even finishing the race the most important thing is the time that you have during the race and so I appreciate the time that you spent I mean the sacrifices that you've made to serve lsr7 in this community it you have to sit in the seat to understand the sacrifices that are made to do this job and so I appreciate what you both have done thank you remember Foley thank you
101this month I had the opportunity to attend a few notable events at the CAC legislative breakfast we had the opportunity to engage in small groups with our elected officials we discussed several Hot Topics that are trending at the state level and shared our perspectives while also hearing directly from our state senators and state representatives about their positions on the proposed legislative changes at the parents of struggling readers meeting one of our talented reading Specialists showed the parents techniques on how to work on Words that do not follow the typical phonetic rules we received some goodie bags with elkinen boxes and Little Gems to practice with I took them home to my second grader and she really enjoyed practicing with it as well board president Campbell and I attended the msba's legislative day at the Capitol
102we met with several legislators and and discussed issues facing our district yesterday we celebrated the awards given to Stephanie renty 2023 teacher of the year in Demona Williams support professional of the Year congratulations to all that were nominated and today is our final meeting with board president Campbell and vice president fritchie I want to thank both of you for your service to the district it's been a pleasure to get to know you and an honor to serve beside you thank you vice president Richie well thanks for all of those great comments you guys I'm trying not to cry don't mind me um I do have some reports from some several this has really been quite a busy month um and I'll start with March 17th was right after the board meeting we had our legislative
103breakfast at mic with our legislators and we had a small group conversations there that was great March the 20th was another opportunity for me I served as the school board representative on the international Baccalaureate evaluation at least I'm in high school with Dr Harrison back here and it was an honor to discuss our support of the IB program with the international Baccalaureate representatives from the United Kingdom and Africa that was like a I almost a Google meter what it was but how we connected but it was amazing they asked us questions via that and and we were able to tell them about our IB program at least some at high and this is actually the third time that I've served because I have served Lee some the one at least Summit North and the one
104at least somewhat West also so I just might to my colleagues when the evaluation time comes up again for IB uh you know ask lots of questions prior to it so make sure you know all your IB stuff I mean you know how we support financially and support of the programs but yeah but they'll be asking some good questions in March also I had the opportunity to read a lot of scholarship applications from the Lee's Summit Educational Foundation and score those to help some of our high school seniors get scholarships for next year so that was a great experience as usual March 22nd was the Business Roundtable meeting at the Missouri Innovation campus and during that meeting Dr Buck served as the facilitator for a discussion on the new law allowing topics to be added
105to board agendas input was sought from the Roundtable members regarding things like number of topics speakers per topic time limits and any other specifics on that so he's surveying lots of different groups on that and there will there will be a committee that works on that um March 31st um it was my honor to be asked to kick off the greater Kansas City Regional robotics competition at Lee's Summit North High School by welcoming all the schools present including two teams from Brazil it was really exciting the broncobots there from Lee's Summit North earned their trip to the Nationals in Houston from that particular event our other teams went to other robotics events um and they're all going to Houston Texas as Dr has Dr Buck mentioned so congrats to the Bronco Bots from North team
106driven from Lee's Summit High School and team titanium from Lee's Summit West um let's see April 8th was the Lee's Summit High School Hall of Fame induction ceremony I know it was also Lisa in high school prom night but that's why we always have the induction ceremony on prom night because nobody's at least I'm in high school that night I serve on that committee we inducted five graduates uh Lee's Summit High School you have to be graduated at least 10 years to be nominated to be on the Lee's Summit High School Hall of Fame Russell Weaver class of 1970 was inducted Anthony canops class of 1982 and that was the very first class I taught at least I'm in high school and he was in my newspaper staff he was inducted Dalton van class of
1071984. our first African-American inductee into the Lee's Summit High School Hall of Fame Von Baker class of 1985 who by the way if you read in our board packet and items coming up on our agenda for stratagos international for safety he is the president of stratagos international Von Baker class of 1985 and finally Alicia French class of 1993 in both of her parents were teachers in the district so it was quite an awesome night and lots of really wonderful graduates honored at Lee's Summit High School and then finally today was a kind of a long day because we had teamly Summit today from eight to two and team Lee Summit met today we dove into the comments submitted in the fall of of 2022 for on the teamly summit survey that all of our staff
108members I hope not all of them but hopefully as many as possible take that survey obvious mostly weren't able to dig deep into those today there will be another meeting in May of which I will not be there but board member Sparks will be there to participate in in May and they will dig further into those comments and those are about quality of life issues for the staff members in our district and so we want to be sure and hit those issues and understand those issues and then convey the top concerns to our Administration so we can take some action on those issues the other item that we discussed at some length this morning was a board policy GBM and I'm that's all I'm going to say about that because there's a confidentiality issue there
109with that but we did discuss board policy GBM this morning too so thank you very much and that's my final report but I do have to say if we're making comments I want to talk about board president Campbell I don't think you're ever going to find somebody who takes more notes than board president Campbell this woman takes copious notes on everything that's the first thing I noticed about her when she came on the board uh she is so thorough she I I you must have file cabinets at home full of notes for president Campbell but she is so thorough she researches she does her homework she calls msba gets guidance and has really strived to be a good leader for the board this year and I can't thank her enough for all of the time
110and the effort that she has put into it she has put her heart into that this year and so thank you board President Kimball thank you I appreciate that and many of the committee meetings have been mentioned many of the celebrations this time of year have been mentioned and so I won't go into detail other than to just say this district has a lot to celebrate and it's exciting to see these end of the Year celebrations happening and congratulations and going to Worlds and going to State and going to all of these activities just it's exciting to see our students and our staff recognized locally Statewide nationally it's an amazing District I will mention one other committee I did go to the government Relations Committee this last month and today we had the CAC steering
111committee and I know Elaine blemel is out there in the audience and I just want to acknowledge Elaine blemel and Stephen Hill that lead that CAC steering committee and Lead that CAC committee and have worked so hard for so many years celebrating this District championing things for this district and just continuing to engage our community in meaningful conversations and input around this District so thank you Elaine for joining tonight and then um I will say vice president fritzi it's been an honor to serve with you and I appreciate all of your hard work and knowing what you and board member Murdoch certainly had before my time and what you've certainly had as we've worked through during my time but it's been an honor to know you and to serve with you and I know especially
112in these final months as you've seen your career throughout lsr7 and now you see your board service ending at lsr7 you have a lot of accomplishments and a lot to be proud of thank you for your service all right now we will move on to that fun finance committee report item 6.01 board member essling are you sure you don't want to do one more go you go girl making sure okay um so I I'm gonna cover the ones that were we discussed in our meeting that are also items for decision uh just for some clarity so um from our first uh contract that we're looking at pure ozone and Hilliard Inc uh Universal paper products so these are two contracts that are just uh for paper products and then our dispensers for the district and
113they're two separate ones simply because no company provided both in one so they're just two separate items within this uh within this line eight well sorry I lost it 8.09 thank you sorry okay the next two um that I'm going to talk about are um they actually fall under the contract that we discussed last month which has to do with our phone conversion system so there's intellipere phone system sip Services um so this is one element of this that I'll just highlight is that this uh portion of the project is bringing um a phone into every classroom which I think is really important because that's not unified across the district right now from a safety standpoint I've certainly heard teachers say that they don't have any phones in their rooms except for their cell phones
114and I think this is a really important upgrade for the safety of our students and for our staff and then we also have converge one phone system and user training so again this is part of a larger contract that we approved this is just we're going to see these come in incrementally throughout the the lifetime of this project but this is just training on the new system that our staff are going to be able to use and uh just a couple of highlights from that as well um because it does have some really great features that I just kind of wanted to throw out there our staff are going to be able to use these systems to basically call from their computers like essentially have a phone number that they can use from their computers
115like for example if they need to have an Ami day they're going to have that flexibility to be able to have a phone number that their students could call or they could call out on and it appears that they're calling from a building so they don't have to use their personal cell phones in that capacity so um uh next on the list National School of Public Relations Association Communications audit we spoke a little bit about this in our work session and this is um a part of our csip requirement as well this is something that we laid out in our strategic plan that we wanted to audit the way that our district communicates with the public so this uh the most recent audit that we have done as a district was I believe prior to
116you Dr Buck in 2018 so um typically something like this would happen around the time that we have a leadership change or every three years or so so This falls right in line with that so we are due and from this there's going to be a lot of stakeholder engagement which I think is really important quite a number of focus groups and feedback that's going to come from the public to determine how we're doing as a district and what we can do to improve I'm very supportive of this so I think this is great um next personal assistant services this is our EAP program I will just highlight that for one thing we have very high utilization in our district of our EAP program so this is very valuable to our staff clearly they use
117it a lot they rely on it and it's very beneficial and just as a a note of appreciation for our staff who were putting this bid together they were able to put out for competitive bid for this service and save the district almost 17 000 which is great I know that maybe seems like a drop in the bucket but I think it's wonderful and I appreciate the amount of hard work that goes into leveraging these contracts that benefit staff and also support our taxpayer dollars being utilized very well and appropriately so those are our one more major contract to discuss is our Stratego since uh vice president fitchie mentioned that this is a organization that we've been partnered with to do our acert training which is our active shooter violent intruder training and we've been
118partnered with them since 2015. so though this is a new contract it's not a new relationship so this did get competitively bid but we determined our staff determined that this was still the best option for us to move forward with so those are our major contracts that we're going to be reviewing in addition we will be approving a transfer of 4 632 665.85 cents from the general fund to special Revenue fund excuse me second I wasn't making the motion yet I was just reviewing my notes Jump Ahead okay but we can do that that's fine I moved to approve the transfer of four million 632 665.85 from the general fund to the special Revenue fund now I'll second yeah Mrs can we do a roll call vote please board member Eslick aye board member Foley

121to accept the unofficial results of the April 4th 2023 no tax increase Levy ballot in shoe second we have a motion in a couple of seconds Mrs can we do a roll call vote board member Murdoch hi vice president Richie aye board member Sparks board member Foley hi board member Eslick aye president Campbell aye motion carries unanimously and thank you voters that was a good one okay item 8.04 conferge one oh thank you item 8.03 Intel appear phone system sip services can we get a motion in a second I move that the board approved the contract with Intel appear in the amount of 109 920 dollars second motion and a second mrsmer vice president Richie aye board member Sparks aye remember Foley I remember Eslick aye board member Murdoch aye president Campbell aye motion carries

123remember Sparks just one question for Katie and that question is on the deliverable do we have a date set that the board will receive the results of the audit the plan is for the Board of Education to receive those results a comprehensive report in an in-person presentation from the auditor at hopefully our December 2023 Board of Education meeting thank you all right any other questions we'll move to vote board member Sparks aye board member Murdoch aye board member esslick aye remember Foley aye vice president Richie aye president Campbell I motion carries unanimously we'll move to item 8.07 Benchmark Incorporated Roofing Professional Services oh we did thank you 8.06 we have a go back personal assistance Services the employee assistance program with pause I move at the board approves personal assistance service and the relative contract
124employee assistant program EAP Services begin in July 1st 2023. second we have a motion and a second any questions or discussion all right mrsmer board member Murdoch aye board member Eslick aye for member Foley aye vice president for T aye board member Sparks President Kimball hi motion carries unanimously we'll move now to item 8.07 Benchmark Incorporated Roofing Professional Services I move that the board approves the contract with Benchmark incorporated as detailed in the agreement in the attachment sorry second we have a motion and a second any questions or discussion all right Mrs mert Board member Eslick aye remember Foley aye vice president Richie aye board member Sparks aye board member Murdoch aye president Campbell aye motion carries unanimously we'll move to item 8.08 stratic goes International with the assert training contract I move that the
125board approved the contract with stratagos International LLC as detailed in the attachments and then a second member Murdoch just wanted to make a comment related to this particular item stratagos has been in business for quite some time now obviously in terms of providing this training even to the point that I went through their training still as a teacher at Raytown South um it is a outside of outside of the obvious of what we're doing it for it's a tough training for staff I mean I I think that people need to understand that I hope they understand that um not only are you processing mentally why you're going through the training which in and of itself can be a difficult thing um to to understand and process but the actual training itself and then the simulation
126that comes at the end if they're still doing it in a similar fashion it looks like they are um is tough um and and so I hope everybody recognizes that in this particular case we're trying to bring in professionals they're very well respected obviously in the area um to take what we know is a low frequency but as we mentioned in our previous meetings Dr Shelton low frequency but high impact um if something like this should happen and so anything that we can do hopefully to provide strategies and plans for our staff to understand what to do in these particular situations I think is absolutely critical um so I just wanted to make that comment on this item thanks appreciate that board member Murdoch right so we have a motion and a second any other
127questions or discussion then we'll move to vote please board member Foley aye vice president Richie aye board member Sparks board member Murdoch aye board member Eslick aye president Campbell aye motion carries unanimously we'll move to item 8.09 purozone Inc and Hilliard Inc Universal paper products I moved that the Board of Education approved the purchase of universal paper products from Pure Zone Incorporated in the purchase of dispenser from Hillyard Incorporated second we have a motion and a second any questions or discussion all right can we move to vote please vice president Richie aye board member Sparks board member Murdoch aye board member Eslick aye remember Foley aye president Campbell hi motion carries unanimously we'll move now to item 8.10 resolution for lsr7 to participate in the success ready Network demonstration project and as you'll recall we
128had a work session on this March 14th we get a motion in a second I moved that the board approved the resolution for the lsr7 for for the Lee Summit R7 school district to participate in the success ready Network demonstration project as presented second we have a motion and a second do we have we do have discussion and questions board member essling uh so one of the the questions that I had asked in uh board comments before the meeting was regarding stakeholder groups um feedback and um actually Dr Barger had referenced uh that um Dr Bucky had met with some stakeholder groups and I was just curious what that feedback sounded like and the reasoning being I just have some questions about how this is going to impact our staff this change of taking away
129an assessment and kind of asking them to do something different what that looks like to the staff members and the buildings and our building leaders what was that feedback like yes so we had both classroom teachers and we also had a different group of Administrators and I see ones in here right now it was unanimous and emphatic please do this um you know as you know map testing takes a lot of time once you get those parents you know I got the schedule for my kids today my fifth graders a map test for next week um it does take a lot of time but they don't see the results so my daughter will take her fifth grade map test next year or next week and the week afterwards and teachers will not get those results
130until next fall when my daughter's in a totally different building map tests are not very meaningful to our staff in that respect NWA as you just saw earlier that's what we use to help pull threads and and and and do interventions and and and find out where we need to make changes on the Fly that's what's driving our instruction that and as well as progress monitoring once we have kids in intervention so uh you know map test data is helping out the state not us um so this is to want to explore hey can we help you state with using something that also helps us it is also going to require our federal waiver so even state says yes doesn't mean map test goes away by the way because the federal guidelines when No Child
131Left Behind came in at a certain point we had to go to every single grade three through eight those of us are old enough to remember teaching it used to be you had a different test you had mmats then you went to a grade span test for map tests you gave it once in the three through five span once in a six to eight spans and once in high school and then I think it was 2004-ish we went or maybe even later in that I went to every single grade test so it's hey can we can we explore and use University of Missouri a Marzano group to explore the Fidelity of using NWA to meet your bucket state of Missouri thank you appreciate that um that's very helpful so I agree though map yeah I
132mean if they don't I don't think we got ours until December maybe so agree the following year it's not very helpful um so were there any um concerns at all I hear emphatic support that's great were there any concerns even if it was a minority that we should consider as far as the impact of this program the only concern was that NWA be included because there is a national Norm you can Bank yourself off to see you know as a classroom teacher you can see all right I have 25 kids or I'm teaching algebra one and I got 95 kids how am I doing against National Norms having a system that you can compare to National Norms or a bigger group Norms was important to the teachers NWA does have that so that was that
133was the big piece if if the state said yes we'll approve waiver and they don't include an assessment of that nature they wouldn't be in favor of they love their homemade assessment something wrong but they want to have that temperature check against a national Norm okay one more Dr Merrill am I doing okay with your group too feedback yes all right one more one more short question I have a it's around funding so one of the other questions that I had was um that this success ready design zones right now is funded by the Kauffman Foundation it has not been funded by Desi yet so are there any concerns or implications if we say we want to go this direction and then we don't have this program funded by the Kauffman foundation and Desi doesn't
134improve funding either is there kind of a concern about any back and forth you know not at this time right now the Kauffman Foundation is really paying for the facilitators uh and who are organized organizers across state and I know Missouri school board association's also been involved so one of those facilitators actually was working part-time for Missouri School Board Association as well as being paid for by Kaufman foundation so no we're not our district we're not receiving any funds from that it's more about the state coordination facilitation right I just mean if there's no funding to support that and that goes away that was more my concern and then does this program like kind of fall apart we're already paying for NWA so if we're using NWA there'll be no costs involved for us okay
135thank you if anybody else had had things here um these are kind of rhetorical questions and these are things we've talked about in work session but I think they're bringing up um map testing in and of itself would be a good indicator if map testing results came back in the same school year to be able to allow the students to make improvements and or teachers get ready to set up students for success in the following school year as it stands now we get the results to your point right what seems to be later and later actually in this particular regard and that's not to say that grading the map test is not an exhaustive and it's actually a highly expensive process for us to score them but to to that point not getting the scores
136to where they can be of benefit not only to students but to staff as well to make the necessary improvements to where all of a sudden you're in the second semester of the following school year before you would ever make an improvement is disappointing I guess is at a bare minimum in terms of what we're getting out of the map that being said I don't necessarily disagree that the map is important right it's a test that that does measure against the learning standards that the state that the state is doing but kids don't receive a grade for taking the map test right at least as far as I'm aware my kids aren't getting a grade for the map test and as a result sometimes motivation can be a little bit lacking whereas sometimes even in
137the high school level your eocs and stuff like that can have some scores associated with them and might actually provide a little bit of motivation for taking those particular exams the map tests are not com comparable to other states because we developed the questions so our test is different than any other state to your point of trying to find these National noise we can't do that with map because everybody's state test is different everybody's benchmarked for what is a proficient score an advanced score they're all different and so trying to find those particular ways to make proper comparisons I think becomes really really difficult as a result of this the nwea and this is one you could correct me if I'm wrong but it would look like based on Research or you could too obviously
138that it is a good indicator of essentially what how well you would do on a map test as well not only that it measures growth which is something that we're kind of trying to look for anyway and we get the results essentially in real time which I think is probably the biggest Point here in terms of us trying to make the corrective actions for students that they might need within that particular school year and I think that that becomes really really important here and then lastly you know we don't have a way um to and it's a hard it's a hard communication message to say because we get our scores back on map and they flat outside don't compare them to the year before everybody then goes and Compares them to the year before now
139we can try to take the cohorts and stuff like that which some people have done and I respect that portion of trying to make those particular connections um but again to the point that when we receive them seven months after the fact then even those comparisons have made it hard to get those particular students caught up we take tests in April kids may actually learn some of this information in April and May we never go back to see if they've actually then gotten some of that information in the spring and summer which is another reason why the NWA is probably a a better test for us at this particular point so all that to be being said and being very long-winded about that sorry because it's been a decade-long problem essentially with the map getting
140more and more delayed throughout the state and US experiencing it as teachers even when I was still giving those particular tests I think this is the right way to go I do 100 agree with you that we need to keep an eye on the funding aspects of it to make sure that the program itself and then the recommendations that we get as a result of it right are able to be funded properly the resources given properly so that it actually serves its purpose I think that that becomes something that we have to make sure that we follow through on on that I think that that was an excellent question in regards to that so I'm very supportive of this thanks I'm right no other questions or comments I will share I'm excited to support this
141um you know Dr Buck all year long we've been talking about um we are the sixth largest District in the state of Missouri we expect our students to be leaders in this District in this state we expect our staff to be leaders in this District in our state and and we expect our district to be a leader and to come out and be a part of this pilot and to help develop msip seven going even further to that next step to be a leader in developing M sub seven I think is a huge honor and a huge acknowledgment of both you Dr Buck and you Dr Barger so I'm excited to support this tonight and thank you for your hard work and getting us into this pilot and and looking to the future with our
142students okay with that no other questions or comments we'll move to vote so Mrs board member Sparks aye board member Murdoch aye board member Eslick aye or member Foley aye vice president fritchie aye president Campbell hi motion carries unanimously and we have no presentations tonight so we'll move by item nine two items of information our written reports item 10.01 building level engagement with board priorities vice president fritchie last one guys the chef hear me do okay the building level engagement is is always unique and interesting because we have our schools weighing in on how they're following our board priorities and this month it was it was the turn of Prairie View Elementary and Summit Lakes Middle School um I just want to say to Prairie View Elementary I loved hearing about the Buddy lessons focusing
143on character traits and belonging it's fantastic to hear about opportunities for our students to investigate their strengths in Real World Learning that's going on at Prairie View also enjoyed hearing about the one read one school initiative with their chosen book A Boy Called bat so it's fun to hear about those little tidbits about each of our schools and these reports so don't neglect on reading those reports folks Summit Lakes Middle School it was packed with information and um on the on the three goals and I will just highlight three number one high quality experiences with access and opportunity for their students um two fostering a responsive caring and inclusive environment in their school and three school choice literacy in all of those areas they have done some some good work and I thought I knew
144a lot about Summit Lakes Middle School but I really learned quite a lot in this report because they put quite a bit in there so thanks to Prairie View Elementary this month and Summit Lakes Middle School board member Sparks I appreciate the reports I just wanted to acknowledge this you know when we talk about utilizing an equity lens there was something that really stood out to me and I think this is important to highlight refix with buddies and donuts with dear ones uh you know when we were growing up it would be you know with dads or with moms and our community is made up of students that may not have mom may not have Dad or grandma is Mom or a neighbor is the one that's filling in those gaps and so I appreciate
145our districts actually utilizing Equity lands in the decisions that they're making thank you thank you board member Spark's excellent point all right board member Murdoch 10.02 moving on to the 2023-24 athletic activities handbook remember Murdoch okay um I do have a question on this one um and it's because it's something that I worked on four or five years ago as a result on page 23 of the athletic handbook is the lettering criteria for athletes within our district and one of the things that we worked on a few years ago was to make sure that there was language included in the handbook among the lettering policy for those students who are participating in sports that are not offered that they cannot participate in with their school but are offered by their school obviously my personal example
146is wheelchair basketball and so they're participating on a wheelchair on a certified wheelchair basketball team they obviously can't participate at their building level but they we had developed the the wording and stuff like that I thought it was actually in um so I would really like us to investigate that promptly because we have multiple students in the high schools right now who would benefit from those whether it be track and field who disabled kids who are participating in that our vipers are doomed right we have lots of examples of this I want to make sure that that policy which I'm sure I can find the emails of what the final policy read it needs to get put into the athletic handbook so okay thanks good catch we'll do that thank you board member Murdoch anything
147else there okay to move on okay item 10.03 our bond budget update questions I will just share a final thanks you know I know that Kyle has worked hard to keep that report to create that report to keep that report and all of that was to keep all of us as board members up to date on where we were at as we were signing and approving and agreeing to new initiatives that we're going to be coming up for payment all of those things so I just want to appreciate all the effort and at the end of the day it was about our voters and it was about keeping the promises we were making spending those dollars that they so graciously voted yes on and making sure that we were accountable to the to the voters

151wants to Mike first foreign I just want to say um it really has been an honor to serve these last six years um you know it's it's bittersweet I have loved serving our students and our staff and this whole Community every time you know somebody says why did you do it and it's like I just love our school so much that's why um uh you know at the time six years ago I felt like it was important to step in and step up and help you know and um I feel like yeah it's been rough it's been there's been some rocky Waters the last six years and there's my husband knows I I have to thank my husband you know if the Academy Awards Diego oh I thank my husband or I think my wife
152or my husband has been he's a quiet man actually very quiet man but he has been so indulgent of all of the time that I have spent in service to our schools and I tell you what the highlights are graduations and the Teacher of the Year Awards and going into the schools and walking through all the schools every single school and Department in the district I walked through and talked with everybody and just going to the special events and activities like the Royals game last week to see the Longview choirs sing the national anthem just things like that just just participating and being a part and feeling like you were contributing to something that is so worthwhile because it's this school district that helps hold this town together and we have an obligation to do
153that we really do we need to do everything we can to support our kids and make them wonderful Prof you know beneficial citizens to society and help them along the way as much as we can and so thank you foreign gratitude I'd like to say uh just thank you thank you for the opportunity to serve as a board member and this past year as the board president it has truly been one of the great honors of my life leading and serving this district and Dr Buck you kind of stole my thunder because 18 that almost 18 000 students and their families over 2 900 staff members we are the largest employer in the city of Lee's Summit and this District covers six cities two counties 18 elementary schools four middle schools three high schools the
154alternative Secondary School the secondary Technology Academy that serves over 31 area districts and one soon to be two Early Education Centers and our special education day treatment center and I share this because at no moment did I take this service and this opportunity lightly but in meeting the Excellence that we ask everyone in our district to do it was also my goal to always bring Excellence my Excellence to this opportunity and I thank you for that I'm so proud of the things that we've accomplished as a district and as a board including that voter approval with the 2020 Bond initiative and then collaborating and moving strategically forward with all the Future Ready facilities and the hard work and then Dr Shelton all the work you did building the comprehensive long-range Capital plan ensuring that we
155have that future lit look to our district and to our facilities for our students and then fiscal responsibility and accountability for a district and to our community and then in parallel Dr Barger you building on educational opportunities in instruction and the approach to instruction building an incredible building and creating incredible educational opportunities for our students a few of those we heard tonight amped on algebra the construction geometry that's coming up this next year our biosciences roll out that'll be at Paradise Park and building on that real world learning you know from the start of when Kaufman began discussions with that and Shannon booth and her team and where we're at today on that looking at at the elementary level exploring thinking about what our students like what are their strengths and then in the Middle
156School the ignite program and asking our students to see themselves in different themes and what different career opportunities might look like for them and then my gosh at the high school level with the real world internships and the projects and the experiences that our students are working with businesses all around our city and our community on it's incredible and the pipelines that are being created and built so that whether a student wants to be College Bound or career ready that we are helping them with those next steps in their life and their success and then as board member Sparks mentioned Equity throughout our district throughout policy and practice and it's seen in so many ways throughout our district focused on belonging with our students and our staff with dignity or our D teams and the
157work that they're doing to change things in their building and make sure that we have belonging and dignity across our district and also thinking about how we're working to remove barriers and increase student participation in belonging in all the activities and Athletics with our strategic activities and Athletics plan and then things like the AVID program our multi-tiered systems of support and being data driven as a district really focusing on that nwea and student surveys and schoolology the schoology the the triangle of data that every teacher and every principal has around students to help get that full picture of the students meeting each student where they are and ensuring they have the rigor and the support for their success and that's incredible progress we focused on student well-being adding Burrell Mental Health Services in our buildings
158and ensuring that our staff continues to have strong benefit offerings and employee assistance offerings like we voted on tonight we've worked so hard to improve Communications and engagement seeing Dr Buck and Katie both and create many new avenues for our community to be engaged adding webinars podcasts providing all that outgoing Publications and info Nation all that provide great information to our community and I'm so excited to see this the future around two-way communication and engaging our communities as we move forward many of the new strategic initiatives this next year we have amazing staff that are full of experts in their field and you have been so trusted by me and such a service to me as a board member and I've appreciated every step of the way in your service to our board as well
159as your service to our education of our students every one of our students every single day and I'm so thankful that our voters approve that Levy transfer so that we could make significant changes to our staff pay this year I'm also proud of the things that we've accomplished as a board and I want to say thank you for that true collaboration with our superintendent Dr Buck a focus on governance with our book study that we did and the shared mentoring opportunities and shared learning keeping the focus and the decision making on what best serves our students being respectful and building our relationships and discussions to ensure that as board members we each had the information we needed to make good decisions and I've shared many times with each of you I've learned so much from
160each of you and it has helped me be a better board member and I want to say thank you for that my thanks to everyone who has supported me along the road these last three years we are a community that supports lsr7 and I love being a part of this community to our students you have an amazing District full of amazing opportunities and I wish you great success and this district is on such a great trajectory for the future and although I won't be serving on the board I certainly will continue to cheer on this district and the hard work of this staff and the community in all the service to every one of our students delivering on our mission that we prepare each student for success in life so I want to say thank
161you to my fellow board members I want to say thank you to Dr Buck Dr Shelton Dr Barger and all of your staff and thank you to our students our family and our community thank you so much [Applause] there will be a five minute break for new board members to be sworn in and then Dr Buck will oversee the reorganization of the board and thank you all foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] please raise your right hand and repeat after me I do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the constitution of the state of Missouri and that I will faithfully and impartially discharge the duties of School director nn4 the reorganized School District number seven of Jackson County state of Missouri to the best of my ability according
162to law [Applause] I'll take these so you can take a picture with so yeah foreign yes I could thank you all right if the board can return to the dice the three new board members pick a spot that there's not a computer name tag at so for our three newest board members your name tag has been ordered is not in yet and also you'll get your computer from Miss Linda very soon but you won't need a computer anything for this one but do find a spot that's open there's one here on each side of me and one by Jennifer so we have three spots for you to choose it doesn't matter which spot you choose it's one of the things a new board president gets to choose is where everybody sits all right so one
163over here next to me and one right there you have both sides all right so we have four agenda items and so I would like to call to order and move for adoption of agenda if anybody would like to make that motion yeah I moved to adopt uh the reorganization agenda as presented second we have a motion and a second all in favor say aye any opposed any obscene okay we have three items here um the first is gonna be election President and then second one vice president I'll run those and then whoever the president is President becomes will take over 1.04 I have a little script I'm gonna read before we go into president but first let me congratulate Camille Johnson Erica Miller thank you Regina Garrett on their election to the Board of
164Education we all look forward to serving with you and we congratulate you uh board policy BCA requires that I act as temporary chairman to conduct the election of a board president vice president but the policy does not spell out precisely how to do that nor does Robert's Rule of orders so I'm going to write a lawyer came up with this several years ago so I'm reading what a lawyer wrote so with that in mind the board attorney and I adopted these procedures the same procedures will be used for both electing a board President and Vice President except that of course the person elected board president cannot be nominated obviously for the office of Vice President can't be in two places at once we will go through the process for electing a board president and repeat
165the same process for electing vice president nominations in a minute but not yet I'll ask for nominations any board member can not be nominated by another board member or board member can nominate him himself or herself nominations do not require a second once a board member is nominated he or she is eligible for the office unless the nomination is declined so if somebody nominated uh Mrs Smith I'll say Ms Smith do you accept or decline and if they accept their nominated once it appears there will be no more nominations I'll ask uh if there are any no more nominations and if there are are none that would declare nominations are closed once nominations are closed if there is more than one nominee each nominee may speak for no more than two minutes in support of
166his or her candidacy the order in which nominees speak we returned by a blind draw I went since we had an update on tiger High grabbed a tiger high hat for the blind draw and we'll draw names a blind drawing and the first one drawn out we'll go first okay I'll do my best to reorganize board members in any order they ask to be recognized I'm using buttons on their microphones but just know the buttons and names no longer match so if you push the button I'll do my best to figure out who you are voting all voting will be a show of hands and determining the winning candidate the winning candidate must ultimately be elected by the majority of the board that means four positive votes have to be uh for someone if it
167was three people nominated it was three two two we don't have a winner we have to go into we have four or more yes votes for for a candidate and the winning candidate must be uh elected by the majority board so I will now open nominations for the office a board president I nominate Roderick Sparks for president of the board do you accept I probably accept any other nominations all right all those in favor say aye congratulations President Sparks [Applause] and foreshadowing you're in charge of 1.04 so be ready all right so 1.03 election of Vice President I'll open up nominations I would like to nominate Jennifer Foley for vice president do you accept thanks any other nominations for vice president hearing none I moved to vote for vice president for Miss Foley all in
168favor say aye opposed abstain you can vote for yourself motion carry 7-0 [Applause] congratulations President Sparks and vice president Foley president Sparks I turn over the agenda to you thank you before I can give some remarks and we go to that last Point vice president Foley do you have any remarks before I give mine just want to say thank you in times of a device and Strife community it is always easy to forget what unites us but I believe that school board leaders have the dually sacrifice to be able to set aside our differences and to work together and promote the best interests of our students and all of our families recently we have seen how partisanship and how politics can divide can divide us and also how we can separate us as a community
169however it is up to all of us to rise above the partisanship and to work together to achieve our shared goals and promote Student Success we must put aside political differences and focus on the common good that is to educate all of our students the outcome of the recent election reflects the community's desire for our school board to work together for the interests of our families from all different backgrounds it is our responsibility to heed to the call and to work to create a more inclusive and Equitable educational environment for all students we must promote diverse diversity equity and inclusion in all aspects of our work including curriculum development hiring practices and student Support Services we must also be proactive to ensure that all students have access to the resources that they need to succeed
170and thrive effective School Board leadership requires good faith open communication collaboration and the willingness to listen to different perspectives we must be proactive to build Bridges and to find Common Grounds to create a better future for all of our students by unifying as a board we can forego and we can be a strong partnership with our all of our colleagues also the external government colleagues private sectors and also the broader Community all working together towards our common goals so let us commit to working together towards a brighter future and for all of our students let us set aside our differences and focus for the needs of our community let us embody the values of service collaboration and Leadership that have made us the great District that we are together we can create a better future
171for all children and for the generations to come thank you it is my pleasure to serve this community and this Board of Education thank you [Applause] at this time I now ask that we have a motion for 1.04 I would like to move that the board reappoint Linda ismert as Secretary of the Board of Education reappoint Nathan holder as treasurer of the Board of Education and reappoint Hannah Pruitt as assistant secretary and reappoint Sharon Garcia as our assistant treasurer do I have a second next second can we have any discussion roll call please board member Eslick aye aye board member Murdoch board member Miller aye board member Garrett aye board member Foley I board member Johnson aye president Sparks aye this meeting is now adjourned thank you [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music]
