technology this is so cool but i feel a little bit like bob barker so if i y'all come on down you have to come down and you have to guess if the price is right so anyway well welcome everyone it's so nice to end the school year inviting you into elmwood we have a lot to share and it's really nice to see so many guests here today so i'm very very excited to present um all right technology we're good ah okay so welcome and thank you ms bailey for um advancing the frames for us while we speak so thank you i appreciate it so this year was truly a remarkable year in so many ways um it's amazing that we started completely messed up completely unsure about what this school year was going to bring

for us what are we going to do we're coming off of a pandemic we're coming off of remote learning this was a year of a lot of flexibility a lot of needs and a lot of creativity for pretty much every educator that's in this room so we had a lot to talk about when we returned to school and tried to re-establish a sense of normal we had a lot of considerations about the social emotionally social and emotional needs of our kids as well as the academic needs because what we quickly recognized was that there are certain things that kids don't learn well um in an online platform they need to see us they need to see teachers and and manipulate objects and it's just such a different kind of way of learning when they're not

here before us so we had a lot of to think about while we tried to reestablish our norms and our routines so we had to come up with a game plan which we did and one of the first things that we determined in our game plan was that we really needed to focus quite strongly on the social emotional needs of our kids we did this by really implementing with fidelity our good behavior game our pacs pbis system we also needed to make sure that we were returning our kids to normal by reestablishing just routines rebuilding stamina rebuilding focus with a lot of our kids and also re-teaching our kids to embrace the productive struggle and we in education fields know that that productive struggle is what our brains need in order to grow and so

what we also needed to do was to become extremely efficient in our delivery of instruction so this forced us to really implement a lot of the academic initiatives that we've been working on for so long here in garfield heights so we knew that we were going to need to pay special attention to our acadians data our map data our regular assessment data and we were going to need to structure things a little bit differently in order to catch some of our kids up so what we did was implement a flexible grouping strategy for grades four and five and the reason why we did this was because we saw that we had a lot of kids with very diverse learning needs a lot of different gaps um based upon how they responded to online instruction so

i i'm going to share with you a little bit about what that process looked like and then also what our results are on the fifth grade level because that was the data that i had quick here so we'll share it with the fifth fifth grade data so map is a wonderful product that we use we benchmark the kids three times a year in the fall and the winter and in the spring and this gives us a lot of great information about what kids know well what they're ready to learn and where they're ready to develop and and provide some stretch where maybe they can uh start growing uh even a little bit more and so it's it's really kind of neat because um over time this helps us direct our instruction and then it helps

us to see where's a kid ready to go next so here's an example when a kid takes the map assessment it gives us this beautiful chart that you can't see and that's okay because your kid's name isn't on it this is you know a pretend school with pretend names and pretend data for illustration purposes only but what our teachers look at is very similar to this and what it does is it takes our kids and it puts them in groups based upon their scores and once we see this there's a nice little addition to this product that we can look at that gives us even more depth of information so if we can advance to that and it's called the learning continuum what the learning continuum does is it tells us where their strengths are

their challenges are and where they're ready to continue to develop so what we did is we took our little ones with our not so little ones they're fifth graders i apologize i take that back you are not little you are not little you are little in my mind but i know i know i've got one your age too i know but anyway um so then what the teachers do looking at this information is this helps them to devise their instruction it helps them to to devise what kind of intervention groupings that they're going to have and what we found because of the pandemic was that many of our kids had many more needs so we really needed to take this information and focus our classrooms to have as few intervention groups as possible that way

we could be more efficient with the instructional delivery for our little ones kids fifth graders so while we were doing this and trying to reestablish focus and normal and is waging fears because you know covet is scary and who likes masks and they're hot and kids the real little ones not fifth graders they chew on them and it's just a rough time so we knew that we had to do all of this and all of that and so yes teach measure and move but also have a little bit of fun along the way and we were able to achieve that pretty well yeah there are a bunch of kids in winter coats laying on the ground for kindergarten and first graders this is post zombie tag i highly recommend it if you have a little

kid in your life that is a student here at onward ask them about it they'll tell you all about it it's a lot of fun so i would like to share with you the results but first i want to show you a little bit about this graph so that you can interpret these results this is a quadrant chart this quadrant chart tells us where our kids are in their growth so you'll see the red quadrant are for our kids that have really the lowest scores and if you see dots there those kids aren't growing to their potential those are kids that we're very concerned about the orange chart directly above the red those are kids that may have low scores but they're showing amazing growth much better than expected growth that is highly encouraging we

love to see our little ones popping out of the red and into that yellow zone because our goal is to try to move them over to greener pastures and the green is where our kids are right is ring exactly where you want your kids to be these are the kids that performed very well on the assessment and they're also growing very well that's ideally where we want everyone to land and then the yellow where you see the two bots those are our kids who are also scoring high but we're worried about them because they may not be growing to potential and as we know as though as they progress through their grades if they don't show more growth eventually they could fall behind so we worry about those students too and so now the results

we want to show you where our fifth graders landed after implementing the strategy and i need to thank michael corey for helping us put all this data together all of these beautiful dots are because of him because i am not computer savvy with that and he's better at math than me so here's where our kids are so you'll see we've had some pretty remarkable games we have quite a few kids that are in that red zone but you'll see some of those dots are pushing up they're getting very close to the orange area and these were kids that were much lower at the beginning of the year with their scores so they're making progress and we're seeing a lot of of movement towards that orange where they're showing high growth you'll see we have many

students that were scoring low because of gaps from the pandemic that are showing a lot of really great gains what i'm also very proud of is we've got okay we've got a few kids in that yellow area i don't like that so well however the majority of the kids are either in the green or they're moving up towards the green so that is exactly where we want to be and we're very proud of of that achievement this this was a definite feat it took a lot of work it took a lot of collaboration cooperation planning a lot of um academic conversations with a lot of people and so we are extremely extremely proud of what we were able to achieve in just one school year with that said i would like to introduce my assistant

principal dr tom price and he's going to announce our students who we are going to honor today because they have shown the most growth in fifth grade and when we call you i would like you to please come up you're going to receive a certificate but i would also like your parents to come up to moms and dads you thought you're getting out of this because we have something for you as well because truly we couldn't do this without you i know that in a lot of the phone conversations we had when we were in online learning we joked and i said you are an honorary member of the online staff well i meant it and it's kind of like hotel california here you're not getting out of here that easy we couldn't have done

it without you and so we have a token of appreciation for you as well so um i would like to introduce dr tom price good evening so we're going to bring up uh each of our students and their parents can join them directly here in front of the school board uh first up is kevin arch [Music] elijah cruz congratulations elijah brian herbert congratulations brian jayden holmes [Applause] congratulations michael porter jr [Applause] congratulations michael dimitri jackson [Applause] congratulations dimitri thank you everyone thank you parents and thank you students i have to tell you just a little aside um uh brian didn't know why he was coming here his name and i have kept it a secret it has been bugging him for over a week like what are we doing what's going on what is going

on and i wanted to point out brian specifically not just to embarrass him because it's really fun right mom i mean we're good planners um but also because of out of all of the students in fifth grade brian deserves a lot of credit he grew the most so brian congratulations to you all right to conclude my uh presentation today um i wanted to tell you about one of the other initiatives that we had um back in december mr henke called dr price and i and he said i've got an unusual but maybe possibly cool opportunity for you we would like you please to um trial a new product that um we saw um during our conversations with other people in columbus and so we had the great fortune of meeting mr tom reed um that's

his caricature there he's called the kanish that is his superhero persona person he's he's a superhero and they asked us to pilot a game called heroes league heroes league is more than a game it really is a neat um game that is designed for students that reinforces a lot of different academic areas and also kids social emotional development they were really cognizant about developing a tool that was safe for kids to play that reinforced a lot of different learning strategies and so um we jumped on like why not this sounds kind of neat and our kids love gaming who doesn't like gaming right and so this really began a very interesting relationship because of it it took off it was really quite remarkable mr reed has been back a few times to visit to donate

swag which is really cool we've got t-shirts and posters and we're also going to be raffling off two brand new tablets um at the end of the year for to our gaming so it's been really a neat experience for all of us well a couple of months ago they approached us again and they said hey we've got a little project for you should you choose to accept and so we um graciously agreed and they sent mr fruits to us i think everybody in garfield heights knows mr fruits and knows him quite well and he asked for us to um to just sit down and talk and he videotaped and interviewed our students and mr poetic and me and the results were amazing so we are going to end our own presentation with the video that

mr fruits made that is being used at the state level um for other educators and other leaders mrs abraham if you don't mind me jumping in real quick this uh this company has a partnership with the esc of central ohio dr reed is a director there uh so we were able to well i moved to the district uh and that will be into perpetuity because we piloted it so they used extra funding to get this together so we were one of the pilot districts and i think it really has taken off here yes um uh dr reid i didn't use the correct moniker but dr reed um he was here actually last week and um his words were in educational circles our elmwood kids have gone viral so that is high praise indeed and yes

and very interestingly but not surprisingly to me um many of the students that you see in this video are here with the words in their hands tonight so we're very proud of them and so we would like to end with the video about heroes league thank you thank you i'll say that heroes league has had a really interesting impact on elmwood i've got kids that i didn't know are closet gamers you know kids that normally would fly under the radar i see them making friendships with each other i see them talking about their exploits in heroes league and during recess or other unstructured free time they're talking with their friends about where they're gonna meet up and what activities they're gonna do which is really great you know it's uh you know when the weather's

garbage and they can't go outside and play this is a really nice alternative where they can interact with their friends from home heroes league has been really interesting at first you know you get a program and you're not really sure what it all entails we got it right before we had snow days and i put out to the kids hey i'm going to play this game over the snow days let's jump on and play and i was astounded by how many kids jumped on i feel like it's given some of our kids the opportunity to express themselves in a different way and to be a leader in a just a different route because it's really a great product it's really a great game and what i like about it as a principal but also as

a parent is that it's a safe option it's really hard nowadays as a mom to navigate all of the different apps that are out there for the kids whether it's on a gaming system and oculus you know all of these different platforms and it's just nice that there's one that's a go-to that my kids gravitate to whether it's my own or my students they gravitate to that you know i can take a little bit of a breath that it's going to be something safe it's going to be meaningful it's reinforcing the same kind of skills that i'm reinforcing as a principal and as a parent for me as a teacher at first when they said you know take extra time to play this game i'm like where am i going to come up with this

time but the time goes fast for me at the end of the day i'll be play after school kids jump on and it's just a nice time to play i think it's a nice game because you can learn by helping people in the game by helping them do quests you can kind of help them out by like telling them how to do stuff well heroes league i especially like it because you get to socially interact with other people like you got friends in a different class you don't get to talk to them much it helps you talk to them more heroes league helps me feel connected to other people we have an island that the kids can build on and i said hey guys let's all go up there and start building something and i

didn't know what they were going to build i got kids building letters spelling out things like cool it was interesting seeing them communicate and work together when it's not just i can text or i can call i've seen kids decide you know just on their own that they're going to do a certain quest by the end of the week because they want to level up or get to a certain level by a certain time if you do a lot of question stuff you can become hero of the week at one point i was even on it it felt really good to be hero of the week because it just feels like you did something good and you're kind of being rewarded for it i think it's really different in the way that it offers a

lot of choice for kids a lot of the other academic games that we have access to for our kids it reinforces a specific curricula where heroes league is different it really does support many more areas of curriculum but it offers kids choice it's different from other games because the other games is they really is not exploring games or they're really games that just focus on one subject it's been the games like roblox and stuff you want this product this is a great game for kids but what's nice about heroes league is that they're interacting with other students that they know these are people that they know and so i don't have to worry are they interacting with somebody that may be a bad influence on them these are kids that they know from school from

within their their own little virtual environment it reinforces a lot of skills and strategies that really support great parenting and building leadership opportunities with kids so i would highly recommend it here's the teachers need to face my fears and never give up and keep on trying hairlessly helped me read and strategize it teaches you about never giving up for our kids to be a part of something that's kind of groundbreaking is exciting and i just encourage all our our parents to to get involved to take a peek over the shoulder and see what they're doing with it because i think they'd be amazed by some of the things they're doing heroes we can keep you learning and it is very fun i think it's a great socialized game and i think every kid should play

it seriously makes learning fun i'm a hero you can be a hero too right before we go to our next presentation thank you miss abrams for being amazing host to the board of education um we appreciate all the hard work that you and your staff here in this building has done to ensure that we see growth in our students so and i would like to congratulate again the students tonight you guys is you guys are the ones that make the garfield heights city school district you make this district equality district your hard work every day and your commitment to your education and so we we acknowledge you um we thank you for your hard work and your achievement and we're looking forward to you guys graduating and continuing your momentum here in the garfield heights

city school district i would like to ask my fellow board members do you have any questions of miss abram relative to her presentation this evening i just i do want to ask as we kind of look at the pandemic these um fifth graders that you presented this level of growth this evening were maybe third graders prior to the pandemic which is our most vulnerable age and stage in education so it is just very commendable to see that vulnerable group come back and now in the fifth grade making this level a growth so i just kind of wanted to acknowledge that and kind of put that in perspective that these were third graders pre pandemic and they're back and they're excelling and they are growing and i have faith that the garfield high city school district

will bridge that gap that our children have pla placed on them during the pandemic so thank you for sharing that information if there's no other questions relative to miss um miss abram's presentation mr hankey uh thank you madam president our next presentation i'd like to invite mrs yolanda hamilton we have a an update on project mosaic good evening everyone for those of you that may not know me my name is yolanda hamilton i am the diversity equity and inclusion consultant with the district one of my roles gives me the privilege of working with some exceptional scholars at our high school with project mosaic and tonight we are fortunate to have one of those exceptional scholars with us taylorville taylor's going to give a presentation over the um over the of year at a glance in

essence of project mosaic and share with you a bit of the activities and things that they've been accomplishing through this leadership group at the high school hi i'm taylor and i'm going to explain what project mosaic does can you go to the next slide please okay so project mosaic is a student group at the high school that dedicates itself to becoming the district champions for diversity equity and inclusion we gather monthly to explore different topics and to learn how to create a more diverse equitable and inclusive community so every meeting we open with our affirmation so i'm going to say it to you guys as a member of mosaic we honor and respect the humanity of all people regardless of their ability ethnicity citizenship status gender political views religious beliefs or sexual orientation we value

and affirm the voices of fellow mosaic members and we'll work collectively to promote peace practice inclusion and will work to make our school community and global society more just and equitable so here's our year at a glance at the beginning of the year we focused on the stop the hate experience the malt museum of jewish heritage held the stop the hate essay contest and we got to write some essays we held writing workshops with mrs rodney from lake erie inc which was covered by a grant and we got to talk in our essays about racism bias and injustices that we face our first field trip of the year was to the mulch museum and we got to explore the exhibit it showed us uh injustices that we know wouldn't normally see on the news like

yes we know about the holocaust and stuff but it showed us in-depth um many of the pieces in the exhibit were little kids clothing or toys that they that families were able to grab before fleeing their country in fear um it really shocked us to see about how bad it actually was last week was dei week and on monday we had our annual refugee dialogue mr mayelle and around five high school students came to the high school to tell us about what it's like as a refugee what their home country was like and what america is to them they told us about like culture shocks about how they came to america thinking they were going to get rich and then they came and they're like oh this is it they also talked about cultural differences

and respect about how they may look at a teacher in africa and they would get smacked because the teacher thought they looked at him wrong but here in america many of the kids swear at teachers they walk out of the classrooms and it's considered fine and okay so it was really shocking to see the cultural differences and to see what we may think is normal and how it's not actually normal for the rest of the world on wednesday we went to an empower empowering youth and exploring justice meeting we learned and talked about how we're going to be change makers how we want to change our community and our school and make it better towards the end of the meeting we had a project to do we wanted our project to focus on mental health

because many like high school students especially just get like put away like oh you're fine you don't know what you're talking about but mental wellness is a big thing that we need so we had talked about maybe having a mental wellness day at school and hopefully we'll be posting about it on our instagram we made a cute little video on thursday we had our dei night we had a community meal and we talked about including people with different abilities and we even had a special performance by the dancing wheels and then on friday the members of project mosaic got to go to maple leaf and to the middle school to see the special ed classes and to sit and sit in their classes for like a day to see what the differences were and how

it was i honestly think it was amazing and that all students should get an experience like that i got to sit in with mrs raka's class at maple leaf and i really enjoyed drawing with the students and going and playing tag with them at recess and just seeing like how they learned um so that's pretty much it for my powerpoint we have some special thanks to our advisors and technical support miss hager mrs ward mrs turner mrs sizzler mrs wilson rug mrs bailey mrs zack and mrs hamilton thank you thank you thank you taylor you did amazing out if you can just wait for a second um this is project mosaic and so i'm very proud of the work that they've been doing i'm proud of the skills that they are acquiring they are not

just emerging leaders but they are leaders in our present and it's important that we give and create spaces for students to have a voice because they are truly remarkable and what they're contributing not only to the school community but to our local community is fantastic at this time if the board has any questions or comments we'd be happy to answer those i have a question um how many high school students are in project mosaic okay so at the beginning of the year we had a roster of about 25 maybe 30-ish students i would say consistently meeting 15 to 20 one of the challenges that we have is that some of our students are cbcc students and also many of them are so active in other things like music express and other extracurriculars so they're not

always able to attend our meetings however um we're working with the advisor team to see next year what we can do to provide a date a day of the week in time so that we can solicit more student participation i think also with taylor and her crew this year sharing what they've been doing it has sparked interest in some students where they were able to actually we were able to bring a couple of students that were not regular regular mosaics to our leadership retreat and to participate in some of our other activities thank you you're welcome any other questions or comments from the board or central staff um i would just like to thank taylor for that amazing presentation and sharing with us the work that the students are doing to drive diversity equity and

inclusion um they are the ones who drive the work um we do the work for them but when they are the ones that's driving the work and showing their commitment it gives us faith that this district will be a district for all children no matter what their abilities are or what they look like we'll have an opportunity to have access to education um so i thank you this evening for sharing that i i just kind of want to ask you what was your what was the most impactful activity that you participated in this year with project project mosaic i honestly think the most impactful was friday going to maple leaf with the special ed classes because so personally my brother has learning disability so i know how it is but i enjoyed seeing the other

kids and how he's not the only one and how there are other kids too and i liked to see how they interacted with like every other kid because i know um normally like in the media and stuff you see like special ed classes get pushed away and no one knows about them so i enjoyed getting to see them participate in everything thank you thank you for sharing that miss hamilton how do students um become become a part of project mosaic is there any um is any students welcome is there a process the students may be watching this this evening and seeing the amazing impact that this group is having on the school district and they may have an interest how do they become connected so project mosaic is open to all students all students and

at the beginning of the year we actually have announcements that go out through the high school to encourage people to sign up and register there is a um consent form so we do have parents sign off on student participation and field trips but it's open to all students who are interested in being a part of thank you is there any more questions if there's no more questions again thank you miss hamilton and taylor for sharing this evening i am looking forward to seeing a greater impact next school year that project mosaic can have on our district as a whole so thank you guys thank you i wanted to add one last comment the board all the effort that you put together in the strategic plan in the dei pillars taylor represents a portrait of a

these awesome individuals thank you teachers that concludes my report thank you mr heinke is there any questions relative to mr henke's report this evening if there's no questions regarding mr henke's report our next item on the agenda is remarks from the public regarding agenda items do we have remarks this evening mr nolan signed up president daniels thank you our next item on the agenda this evening is can i have a motion to approve madam president wave items 91-94 in a second second discussion yes i do have a free presentation on the forecast did a little bit different type of um presentation with the forecast in may i call it the messaging versus just an overview and i think the the reason we wanted i wanted to change it up it said we need to message

exactly uh how we arrive at may updates because there's a lot of changes that happens from november to [Music] to may here so i kind of wanted to go in a different direction so where we where we've been and where we're going to kind of like highlight that to show just just how far we're moving forward so if we can go to real quick and i'll have this on our website for the public tomorrow morning but uh just to give a brief overview i have like revenue by chart and it's the revenues for the past 10 years and in most of our revenues i'm going to say most majority of our revenues come from the state and property taxes so and you could see that we've been the last couple years trending um pretty much

flatlined in our revenues down from 2019 but 2020 2021 has been pretty much flatlined and that is due to the state's two-year budget and they have flatlined our revenues each year that has changed with the coming year when the state legislators decided they're gonna institute the fair school funding plan so what the fair school funding plan it was two fold and i'm just what they did is that while they're giving us less revenues they've taken away an expense a big expenditure stream from us so it kind of like was a wash and we got a little bit while we got less money from the state we're paying out a little less money for the community schools and the ed choice scholarship would amount to over four million dollars to the district so while we see

less money this year for state funding we also see a big expenditure drop and i'll get to that here in a minute but in the next page we have where we're going with with our revenues and we can see here how our revenues have dropped in 20 and 21 but they didn't drop this year even though we had less state funding and that's due to the fact that we saw an increase in our property taxes due to the fact that we had a 23 valuation increase in the in the district and with a valuation increase the county fiscal officer would drop the tax rates well he was a year uh lagging and dropping the tax rate so we collected a little bit more money on our property taxes this year even though the board just

approved a major decrease in tax rates at the april meeting the only issue with that is a benefit to us is that those tax rates when they're implemented they won't take effect until collection year 2024. so we saw over a um a significant increase in our property taxes this year that increase will carry over the same amount of increase will carry over into 223 and then we will see you can see on the bottom we'll see a significant drop in 24 as the new property tax rates come into effect that was the that was the major change in our property tax forecast moving forward as far as the fair school funding plan um since it's a two-year budget those it's not on in presentation sorry it's just a more presentation like i said what i'm

talking about tonight will be up for uh for the public here tomorrow morning on my website so moving forward in in the overview is that the fair school funding plan is in place it's two years worth of funding the only issue we have is that it's a two-year budget for the state we don't know if the state's going to continue the fair school funding plan or not after two years depending on who the legislatures are forecast includes continuing it with a moderate increase of three percent whether that's comes to fruition or not we'll see in two years on the expenditure side um salaries and benefits have remember remaining steady and our purchase services have been remaining steady over the past few years but what we have done is that we've moved some of our salaries

and benefits to esser funding to offset and help the operational funds when using up the esser money which we're required to do by 2023-24 so we're maintaining our salaries and benefits but we're going to see a significant increase in 2024 when they bring those salaries and benefits back on the purchase service side which is a major expenditure area we have a significant drop due to the community school and to to the ed choice that's now paid directly from the state but we did see a significant increase in substitute cost therapy costs tuition to residential districts for special needs students utilities saw a significant increase this year and our legal fee saw significant increase this year while we're projecting them to go down a little bit in the following years it still was an increase that

wasn't anticipated moving forward so we need to mitigate the coast cost putting both of those together the main point that i always like to say is that our revenues for the year exceeding expenditures and that's what we call a balanced budget so for 2022 revenues exceeded expenditures by 1.9 million dollars revenues will exceed in the forecast revenues will exceed expenditures next year by 2 million dollars currently but beginning in fiscal year 24 the revenue deficit drops back down to 1 million deficit where expenditures will exceed revenues and then the following year when we bring back salaries from the esser funds expenditures will exceed revenues by 3.5 million in the forecast and then moving forward exponentially as expenditures will outpace revenues and that's the nature of the bees for schools so how do we sustain ourselves

well we have the balances to carry that negative revenue so expenditures over so we have a cash balance uh in 2022 2023 we'll have a cash balance 2024. it'll start being reduced significantly in 2025 and by 2026 we're seeing a negative cash balance so we have to mitigate uh as we look forward those five years lastly in there is is so what happened between november and may what happened is that are we collected more revenues tap property tax revenues the forecast was less by one million dollars due to the tax rates not changing we anticipated those changing but they did not we built that in there and then the other major portion was the and we knew this uh because we in november did not have the final calculations for the repair school funding plan

um that came in about 600 000 less than what we originally thought based on the final calculations of the plan on the expenditure side we saw salaries and benefits drop did not meet forecast expectations we overest estimated the amount that or underestimated the amount we were going to significantly move to esser we also underestimated the number of employees we would have to do some of the services and you could see by the next graph that purchase services exceeded estimates by 957 thousand dollars and a lot of it was i just mentioned the services that we uh outsourced versus having in-house most of those were services for students and lastly the bottom line is and i just have explanations the bottom line is if you're looking at the forecast in the first page you have the

simplified statement the bottom line is as i said before we will end the year with roughly a four million dollar carryover that grows in the next year as we have that two million dollar revenue over expenditures it drops down to 5.4 million all things being equal and then we'll start seeing that significantly a balance drop down to where we start deficit in 2026. one last thing i need to mention is in you will see that we have an emergency levy renewal coming up so we're not allowed to include those uh in the forecast that's a brief overview the board will be approving the actual detail forecast the meeting tonight so if you want more detail on the forecast and the behind the numbers uh that'll be also be up on the website tomorrow morning so

it provides a more detailed look at the forecast itself those are really the driving forces behind how all these numbers were arrived at those are what i call the assumptions for the forecast and those are significant uh events that i think will take place or have taken place that it directly impact the forecast itself all in all um i think that the forecast the district is looking a lot better than it did in november so as i like to say cautiously optimistic for the for the future so any questions on the forecast itself um [Music] um well well right now actually it's hard to say that because we still have a lot of outreach services that we actually were able to bring on board and use those type of services which if we didn't have

esser funds i think that we would be significantly [Music] challenged fiscally for those services as far as um what we're doing in the buildings moving all that esser now gives us the wherewithal and the balance to start looking at the strategic plan i mean this year we're just coming back from basically a coveted period so we're just kind of getting back into the educational process the strategic plan has identified where we can start targeting those areas this forecast and moving all those expenditures allows us the flexibility to start identifying what we need and being able to fund those areas the hard part with esser is it's once again like a grant anything else that's finite it doesn't last forever so we have to mitigate where we can you know use and what's sustainable but it's

right now i think teaching and learning is really working on targeting those such things as the pbis and some of the other areas that we're doing we're bringing in a lot of intervention people to to help out in the buildings we're bringing in a lot of therapy services to help out in the buildings and i think that we're able to do that now because we're able to offset those expenditures by moving some of the others not to mention a lot of the technology that we're purchasing the one-to-one we're able to purchase a lot of technology that enables that one-to-one to give every student a chromebook to give every student a lot of the educational programming and software that we're able to use and expand out and being able to access those resources that they really

didn't have before and i think that that's what the esser funds are allowing us to do student achievement it's like baby steps we're starting and it's like building blocks we're building on that and then next thing is what's the next piece of the services that we can do and i know that the the central office administration and principals are doing that and identifying areas that we can start start growing these programs and bringing those programs to the district and be able to sustain those programs and for the long term thank you mr saluta is there any other questions regarding mr seleuca's presentation this evening if there's no more discussion mr saluka that motion was moved by mr juvie and second by miss morrison can we have a roll call please mr jubie yes ms morrison

yes ms king yes ms thomas mrs daniels yes our next item on tonight's agenda i'm actually asking if i can have a motion to approve the personnel agenda agenda items 11.1 through up through 16.1 as presented second and is there any discussion i did have one question um if leann can just explain um the new positions um of the lead title teacher and the instructional coach title one yeah thank you just briefly classroom as well as working in small group intervention with students recently our literacy coaches went through a pretty rigorous training about working with teachers one-on-one developing their leadership skills developing their coaching capacity and from this we learned that this is in fact a full-time job on its own so we have taken some of our grant money and redistributed it and what

we will be doing is actually extracting these two major components of the literacy coach the coaching piece and the teaching piece and separating them into two different positions so that's what you see there we've just rewritten the literacy coach position one focused on that uh job embedded professional development that we spoke of with the you know working in the classroom in real time in authentic and genuine situations and then also being able to dedicate a full day's worth of time to work with students in a small group intervention type scenario so we're not taking away from any one component but we're actually going to be expanding the two [Music] or what grade levels so it's going to be we're going to start with the elementary schools okay and we have the instructional coaches there's one

in each building so they'll continue to do their instructional coach work in all five buildings and then the three elementary schools will be where we really focus with those small group reading and those title compliance pieces thank you leanne sure is there any other discussion relative to the items 16.1 i mean 11.1 from 16.1 madam president i apologize i just like to uh for um mr chuck grant he's retiring this year uh mr grant and i taught next to each other uh in the high school and he came on a year after me uh so um i wish him well in his uh in his retirement uh he uh just in my my humble opinion is a was a is a fantastic educator thank you thank you mr hankey and on behalf of the board

we do congratulate mr grant on his retirement if there's no other discussion mr saluka a motion to approve personnel agenda items 11.1 through 16.1 was moved by mr jubie and that was second by ms morrison can we have roll call please yes mr jubie yes ms morrison yes ms king yes miss thomas yes mrs daniels yes the next item on our agenda this evening president movement item 17.1 18.8 and is there any discussion if there's no discussion mr saluka that was a motion to move and wave item 17 through items 18.8 that was moved by mr jubie and that was second by miss thomas can i have roll call please mr jubie yes mrs thomas ms king yes ms morrison yes mrs daniels yes mr seleuca are there any comments from the public regarding miscellaneous

school items this evening no one has signed up present days okay thank you the next item on our agenda is a motion to adjourn tonight's meeting second discussion about a journey [Laughter] with no discussion mr saluka that was moved by miss king and that was second by mr jubie can i have roll call please ms king yes mr jubie yes ms morrison yes ms thomas mrs daniels yes mr seleuca allowed the record to show that tonight's meeting was adjourned at 7 11 pm
