001going to call the meeting to order please rise for the pledge of allegiance of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all i have a motion to approve board of education meeting or i'm sorry motion to approve the agenda for tonight's meeting [Music] motion and a second all those in favor please say aye anyone opposed that passes could i have a motion to approve board of education meeting when it's for june 24th motion and a second any discussion all those in favor please say aye okay anyone opposed abstain and that passes as all well since it looks like we have quite a few patrons comments we're going to uh probably try and move those so i'm going to make a motion to move

002the patrons comments towards the end of the meeting so that we can get through our business section first please [Music] 5.01 patriots comments to follow 8.04 proposed agenda for the august 5th meeting ocean and second a second so we have a motion and a second all about any discussion this is not patron comment time right now i understand all those in favor please say aye hi anyone opposed that passes all right so the next item on our agenda is the approval of consent agenda item 7.02 through seven point one six so we'll move on motion and a second any discussion right here yes we have two items tonight equitable foundation for rockwood summit high school monetary one thousand dollars professional development opportunities and falcon football boosters again rockwood summit high school 9 299.99 falcon performance

003account thank you very much great donations donations all right any other discussion the motion is to approve the consent agenda items as submitted all those in favor please say aye anyone opposed and that passes next is item 8.01 could i have a motion to approve the review of policy one five one zero records retention destruction we'll move on motion and a second misstep catching thank you we request the ability to go in and review the current policy 1510 records retention and destruction it does not have a department specified to oversee our records retention in addition the managed manual is not always the most current version and so we'd like to review that please any questions or discussion all right so the motion is to approve the review of policy 1510 records retention destruction all those

004in favor please say aye all right anyone opposed and that passes thank you thank you deb next 8.02 i have a motion to postpone approval of revisions to policy 0412 public participation at board meetings until the august 5th 2021 board of education meeting motion and a second ms lepak is here oh hi uh so for first reading we looked at a number of different items that we wanted to address in terms of patron comments who can comment does it need to need to be a resident of the district a student or an employee how long people can comment whether or not there should be a dedicated portion of the meeting for patron comments addressing the open session is not necessarily the time to talk about individuals either students or staff and whether or not topics

005should be limited to what's on the agenda for the meeting also addressing the use of profanity or disruptive behavior and whether or not the board should be responding to patrons after they comment i did share notes with you about what other school districts are doing because that question was raised last month and a number number of suggestions that have been reviewed by our attorneys too so mary i did read all of the comments from all the other districts and i did send you my questions so i do want to make them public tonight one is i do have a concern about limiting limiting the patron comments to 30 minutes because i think every patron in the district patron in the district resident in the district has a right to come and speak their piece and

006this is their forum too for us to hear them so that that it is on public record and so i very much think we should not have a limited amount of time did it say in there that the president has the option to extend that time i i think it should just be a public record that they can as many people show up should have the right to talk and then i'm not done so the other thing in there that i that i questioned was if only the board president can ask for follow-up that doesn't give any voice to any other director to ask for any follow-up i think the idea is that it would it would technically be the president but if another board member wanted follow-up but if it doesn't say it it

007isn't policy we consider that so i think that that's another consideration and certainly i think we could direct it to the president to direct to the superintendent but how would she know that i have a concern and want something followed up on i think you would have to bring that up right i think it's similar probably if you look at how we handle emails and that channel of communication and and the reason for all of that is that you know providing as much consistency to our responses all the way through whether it's an email response a patron comment however we're receiving information that we follow a protocol and that there's consistency there so however you know we come up with it just making sure we're following that and we do have a written protocol for

008following that this states that only the board president can ask for follow-up and i have i disagree with that um there are also a section about submitting and writing if there's not enough time and i think that is another section that again takes the voice away from our patrons from being allowed to present an open forum and have it recorded um the other thing is one of the other things that we might want to consider is just as we've done tonight with if there's a large number of patron comments that we can move it on the agenda and i think it's part of the policy then there's less confusion with the public as to why what we're doing and why we're doing it so those are my concerns i just want to make sure that

009they're voiced very one thing i noticed when i read through it is on both there's two different documents and there's a definition of the word patron on each of them and they weren't exactly the same so i just want to make sure we get it the same on both i mean i printed it at home but i believe that the word parent was missing on one of them um so if we could just check that and then the other thing that i was curious about uh for opinion from you all is on the form that patrons fill out there was not a place for them to put their email i didn't know if that was something that we felt was important to ask for if that was might be a preferred way of communicating back

010to people um you know along with their phone number that we've asked for so not to mention i mean i've watched a lot of board meeting on youtube not ours just everybody else's across the country and something else that they do is they have the patrons that speak state their address so we know that they live in the district do you say tom i couldn't catch it i'll state their address when they speak that way we know they live in the district okay and so i think there's really good thank you for doing all the research you did among other school districts to see what places do um you know i don't know what what did you find if you could just verbally state this um in terms of comparing how we've done patreon comments

011and how we do them to other districts do other districts do patreon comments at every board meeting or our mo you know some of them only doing them once a month or setting specific time for that so the board the business of the district is not interrupted and can be completed most school districts do set a time um but what was the first part of your question um if they allow patreon comments at every every board meeting or if they have a work session where where it happens or i know in some other districts uh work sessions they don't but anything that is a regularly scheduled meeting would include patron comments okay i think it's worth mentioning um this policy is your policy okay one two um our the meetings of the rockwood school district

012board of education are meetings in the public not public meetings there's a difference three school districts across the region and across the state across the nation do everything no demand different in all of these kinds of areas so some districts even with our neighbors do beginning of the meeting public comments on agenda items at the end of the meeting public comment on anything else that the uh public would like to comment on but still in a time in a time frame okay and and i think that's that's key uh some of the things that we're in here are pretty standard like what can be said what cannot be said what can be covered what can't be covered civility language um all of those kinds of things um but it's really what you all believe you

013want your meeting to look like and what you want your meeting to accomplish and so it is a business meeting and if in fact we need public meetings then that behooves mary and i and others to help set those up for public comments in public meetings based on public are based on content based on topic things of that nature because you have important work to do like a town hall or or a listen and learn or learn and listen everybody you know present some information then hear from the public kind of a thing and a series of those uh we've also seen that done with uh focus groups um yeah those kinds of things any other comments or questions for mary okay so the motion is to postpone approval of revisions to policy zero four

014one two public participation at board meetings until the august 5th 2021 board of education meeting all those in favor please say aye anyone opposed and that passes thank you next is 8.03 review of the august 5th 2021 and november 4th 2021 more board meeting dates this is just a discussion so we have some conflicts coming up in early august as well as early november um i know you all responded to janet uh with some possible dates in august to reschedule the august meeting to um our regular our second august meeting is august 19th is that correct yes this so um looking at the other dates in august to potentially move that meeting by this tally it looks like um either the 11th or 12th would draw the most is the most um available for everybody

015so just double checking on those two dates with everybody one two three four five one two three four five um if we did it on thursday august 12th is their availability to move that earlier in the day it's up to you okay so that's one possibility uh we we could have six people at otherwise if we do it on wednesday august 11th we would have um the the availability of five people to be at and could have it at our regular time i don't know if you all have any thoughts on that this would be better i think six would be better six people so if we do on the 12th i think that works better then i'm good on the 12th okay so could we move it to like uh is three o'clock too

016early to move that did you have a chance at all to check with cabinet or alt or anyone to see how that is looking um i don't think it'll be a problem for cabinet to be there so we could just try to move it to like three o'clock what's that technically right um does that work for you i'm out on the 12th i can't make that one oh you're right i'm sorry that's okay oh you're on here as a yes i thought i said no for the 12th okay then that doesn't even matter no matter what it'll be five so why don't we do it on the 11th then regular time and i have uh keith lynn randy tammy tom you're unavailable right on the 11th okay and laura i know you're unavailable and i'm

017available so we'll have five on the 11th and we'll do it at our regular time oh you can't yeah i could do this okay then that's incorrect so you've cleared that's 12. sorry it's okay so the 11th at the regular time the 11th at the regular time and then the november 4th meeting uh conflicts with the um conference so the msba conference that people are attending so how do we want to handle moving that one i think there's even presentations and people leaving the day before we have a meeting on the 18th in november is it feasible to have one november meeting or do we need to keep a second for business purposes if it's far enough advan in advance they can do it okay you know because then we'll let finance in hr no

018okay i mean it's um anybody want to make a suggestion on november do we want to move that or do we want to just have one november meeting since we will be attending that conference that first week and there are events going on veterans day is the 11th um and our meeting is on the 18th followed by thanksgiving week i would suggest we have just one meet yeah okay all right then we'll plan on just the 18th in november and if something comes up between now and then janet you feel like or dr ricker you feel like there's more business to get in from a financial standpoint just let us know and we'll figure that out okay sounds good all right 8.04 the proposed agenda for the august 5th board of education meeting is up

019on the screen if everybody wants to take a look at that and give any feedback if you have any all right otherwise we will move back to patreon comments so item 5.01 i have a statement to read before we begin patron comments this evening thank you all for your flexibility in allowing us to get the business portion of our meeting conducted this evening which is the purpose of us being here making sure that the district has things approved that it needs to maintain its daily functions and keep our buildings and our people moving forward so next we will handle patron comments and i'm going to read this for everybody's listening purposes before we get started during patreon comments citizens may address the board of education concerning issues related to the school district each speaker will

020be limited to three minutes please note that at the board's discretion the board or superintendent may respond immediately to an issue raised during patron comments for clarification however our general practice is to respond to the comment at a later time via a phone call or written message if a response is needed we have a podium with microphones ready so both the board and the audience may hear the patron comments clearly this evening we do have a number of patron comments and we are allocating up to one hour of time for this portion of the meeting agenda if anyone does not have an opportunity opportunity to speak a member of the administrative leadership team will be following up with you personally within a reasonable amount of time the board appreciates that you have taken the time

021to come this evening and we value both your input and your perspective i would like to remind everyone that we expect that you will remain civil and respectful in your remarks and if anyone becomes disruptive we reserve the right to cut those three minutes short for your convenience our three minute time clock is ready and i think we're collecting the patron comment card so give me one second and i will let you know who's first all right so the um first comment is marjorie rolling you can come on up oh i actually didn't want to be here tonight i kind of hope that the pandemic would fade away when case numbers in this country were going way down i had such hope that enough people would get vaccinated that it wouldn't matter um if kids

022were required to wear masks in the fall but i'm here tonight to ask rockwood to follow at a minimum the cdc guidance on masks which would effectively require them among elementary school students so basically there aren't child size and 95 masks that can effectively protect children enough that whether or not other people wear masks is irrelevant basically masks protect other everyone needs to wear masks um in order to protect my child i called my child's pulmonology office at cardinal glennon and i said what do you think about masks optional school you know will my kid be fine is there a special kind of mask he can wear that will protect him better he said no we strongly support the cdc guidance which requires masks among the unvaccinated in indoor settings and to have people laughing

023um is just kind of very upsetting to me if you've never had a child in the hospital with a respiratory illness if you've never watched your child struggle to breathe well on oxygen uh heart monitor and iv fluids um i hope you never have to endure that and i have and um basically i'm asking the district to follow the cdc recommendations the cdc is the scientific body that our country entrusts with making recommendations like this it's not a popularity contest it's not something that can be solved with the survey we need to follow the science and a top school district which is highly rated for all of its programs including science i mean we teach the scientific method to our students and who are we if we say well we know better than the cdc

024simply put we don't and when i filled out the survey about um whether my kid would go online school or in-person masks were required i made that decision back in february and now my child doesn't have the option to go online and so basically until my child is vaccinated two weeks past the second dose if uh masks are not required i'm gonna have to withdraw and homeschool him and his sibling and then re-enroll him which i don't actually think is the best option for the district and i just the stuff that's against masks is junk science the stuff that is against vaccines is junk and i just it's very upsetting for me that we are in this situation when i have done everything in my power to end the pandemic i have gotten vaccinated i

025mask i distance and those who don't shouldn't be allowed to put my children at risk thank you next we have elizabeth cohen in the united states the number of deaths attributed to covid for individuals who are ages 0 to 17 from march of 2020 until now which is approximately 17 months is 331 out of over 600 000 deaths which is point zero five five percent approximately one half of one tenth of one percent to put that in perspective during the 2018-2019 flu season which is only six to eight months long flu deaths in the same age range of zero to 17 was 477 so more deaths than half the time because this was out of 34 000 deaths which comes out to 1.4 percent or 25 times higher than the death rate in children for

026covet i have asthmatic children and nobody masked for them because the flu can absolutely put my child in hospital and i wouldn't have asked people to to mask for them i'm not diminishing the death of anyone death is a sad fact of life especially the death of a child but do you realize how many kids die in the year in the united states in 2020 according to the cdc 28 171 kids under the age of 14 died only 134 of those were coveted and they likely had underlying conditions as of right now anyone ages 12 and older can be vaccinated against covet 19. this includes the teachers we masked our kids to protect last year as parents we are the only people who have the right not only the right but also the responsibility to

027make decisions related to the health education and welfare of our children rockwood school district does not legally have the right to make decisions about the health of any of the children enrolled in the district schools parents must sign waivers for risky activities to go on a field trip to play sports and even for the school to give them a tylenol and parents will make the decisions as to whether their child will wear a mask to school or not all summer parents have been making decisions about masks for their kids you can't possibly understand what covering the face and knows that each child means to that child giving families the choice to mask their children or not will allow all families in the rockwood school district the ability to make decisions that are best for their

028kids and their families only this will allow rockwood to meet the needs of all kids moving forward which is something that was lacking last year my son will not be wearing a mask when goes to high school in august where everyone students and staff alike have had the choice to be vaccinated he will show up ready for the education he has a right to as a citizen of the united states of america and you do not have the right to take that away from him and by the way my son's language arts class spent weeks in the cultural identity lesson teaching him that he is privileged because he is white uh this was actually part of the lesson and about how to label people according to factors such as their skin color and sexual orientation

029i'm not sure why it's okay for an adult to ask my child about their sexual orientation especially in a public school it goes against everything our family believes and have taught our children about not judging people for skin color religion sexual orientation or anything that isn't the content of their character meanwhile my son's reading score went down i expect more from rockwood this year thank you next we have jessica risen hoover the evening so interesting that the last speaker talked about parents having the right to make the best decisions for their children yet we are currently in a position where parents are demanding that the school district banned books because their child isn't ready for those things so they want to make a unilateral decision for all of our children so interesting that that's okay

030for math but but not for academics so i would like to speak tonight about language arts curriculum and the hiring of a replacement for dr fowler my son is a 9th grader actually he'll be in 10th grade next year i'm sorry same school as the previous speaker he has a verbal iq of 130. he stopped checking books out from the library by third grade because he was academically beyond what was offered by fourth grade he was reading at a 12th grade level in eighth grade his star test was so high that the ela teacher hadn't seen his score before they thought it was an error code on the test it was just higher than they had seen so unfortunately as he was coming up in the lower grades rockwood didn't have a good curriculum for

031him and we had to provide most of his books um dr fowler actually made really good changes and and we didn't face that any longer um so my son needs a challenging curriculum i recognize that not everybody's at that same level right dear martin would have been an appropriate book for my child in fifth grade whereas it was too much for a child in ninth grade last year and that's okay like it's okay that they are academically different so but that doesn't mean that my child shouldn't have that book just because somebody else's child isn't ready for it so i hope that as you look to hire somebody new for dr fowler that um first of all that they're committed to diversity equity and inclusion but secondly that they have experience developing ability groups because

032i just don't know that was really well flushed out previously and and then that way also children aren't in classes that are far too complex for them because that sounds like maybe what happened to that ninth grade student and i do advocate that parents be provided with a class reading list and a consent form for more mature content content i think that would be fair to everybody that way excuse me if a parent does not feel their child is ready for that content the child can be moved to a class that's more appropriate for them so that way you're not holding oops that way you're not holding my child back but then that child's not education isn't disrupted either they don't feel uncomfortable um and if i can have just a couple more seconds because

033i was interrupted um i did ask my son what the uh curriculum was in ninth grade uh language arts like i said at the same school as the previous speaker the readings were romeo and juliet to kill a mockingbird fahrenheit 4-5-1 and tuesdays with mori excuse me y'all answered we are about five seconds the meeting i would like to be the speaker right now this is the only time i'm going to say this we have patrons at the podium who we have welcomed to speak in front of us as the board we ask that everyone in this room remains quiet and civil while that person is speaking if you're not able to we ask you to wait outside and wait your turn because if it's your turn at the podium and people are treating you

034this way you will not appreciate it either if we cannot hold a civil meeting we will be finished with this meeting which is why we've moved patron comments where they're at i apologize for the behavior of the room miss rosen hoover and thank you for your comments tonight anyway that would have been banning the classics next comment is a patron comment is adam whittington this week a survey was made available to parents of rockwood students the survey included questions regarding their children's experiences under covet 19 regs in rockwood schools including contract tasting contact tracing masking and social distancing we're here to report on the results of the survey in the three days the survey was circulated we collected 341 responses represent students and every grade level and every school in the district here are the

035questions and the raw data did your child test positive for covid during the 2021 school year nine percent said yes 92 percent no if your child tested positive for cova during the 2021 was the affectionate result of contact while at school 6.5 yes 76.8 no 16 i don't know was your child contact traced by rockwood for covet during the 2021 school year 30 percent yes 70 percent no after your child was contact trace do they test positive for covid as a result of contact in school five percent yes 95 no how many times was your child contact trace by rockwood 65 once 22 percent twice 6.7 three times four percent said four times how many days of school did your child miss as a result of being contact trace forced to quarantine the average was

036nine days and the most was 31 days for the students who missed between 20-31 days of school only one ever tested positive for covid at some point during the school year and that person reported that the student contract to the virus outside of school healthy students were forced to miss significant amounts of school and other important events parents reported that their healthy children miss events such as birthday parties sports standardized tests theater band performances awards ceremonies and homecoming and prom as a result of contact tracing one parent wrote that her daughter missed picking a lunch table so she had to sit alone for the entire year [Music] my that this is the end of the survey i'm going to use the rest of my time my daughter missed the last three weeks of school because

037of a sinus infection not because of covet couldn't wear a mask my daughter was fatigued from wearing a mask after track your medical professionals said that she was drugged went to the hospital no drugs two days later it felt fine came back to school with the mass fatigued your nurse said that my daughter had neurological damage potentially i don't think a nurse can diagnose a student like that so when you make your decisions based on medical authority i'm the medical authority of my kid i pulled my son out of your school district my daughter i let her stay but there's a very good chance she's not going either so keep up the good work next is jennifer weston i'm going to continue the survey that adam started um we asked did your child experience any

038of the following symptoms as a result of wearing a mask at school select all that apply 85 kids increased anxiety 81 fatigue 48 coughing without illness 70 increased allergy symptoms 12 asthma attacks 17 respiratory illnesses not related to covin 10 strep infections 104 experienced headaches 59 skin rashes 8 had dental decay 45 depression 75 irritability 29 sensory issues 42 impaired listening comprehension 22 impaired speech language development 23 impaired reading skills development 39 reported impaired social skills development 59 inability to connect with peers 9. confusion 40 slower physical activity 34 reported feeling faint four had suicide ideation and 15 had something other than that we asked what would you like the mass policy to be during this coming school year 45 send masks optional for everyone four send no masks at all 29 said mass required

039for everyone 20 percent said mask required for the unvaccinated if masks are required for your child during the 2022-21-22 school year will you consider removing them from rockwood schools 42 said yes if contact tracing and quarantine is required for your child during the 20-21-22 school year will you consider removing them from rockwood schools 36 percent said yes should the covet vaccine be required for all rockwood staff and students when available by age 53 said no 31 percent said yes 15 said yes but allow religious and medical exemptions we asked if the covid vaccine is required for your child during the school year would you consider removing them from rockwood 44 said yes and if your child is discriminated against based on medical choice will you consider joining a lawsuit against the rockwood school district 44

040said yes thank you swastin thank you would you be able to share these these survey results with the board at some point um yes okay we'll take a paper copy if you have one thank you next we have becky i'm thank you viola and teresa roach coming up as a team so that i can give my time to her one of these stories is very personal to me it's not my story but it's my child's story and it's not my story to tell but i think that it's important that you guys hear a lot of what is going on if we're not careful i truly believe that our next public health crisis is going to be mental health and i'm a part of the survey as well the question is did your child's mental health

041deteriorate during the 2021 school year nearly 49 said yes do you believe your child's mental health deteriorated as a result of covert restrictions in rockwood schools 33 said yes 11.6 said it was one of the factors among many please describe your child's experiences related to the mental health and covert restrictions in rockwood school here's just a sample of the responses the full list will be provided by email and to all the parents via social media here we go my child would not get out of bed and withdrew from friends and family my daughter had severe anxiety and i have been taking her to a counselor since february weekly my son became very irritable and depressed he cried every morning about having to wear a mask my child cried every day and was filled with anger

042and easily agitated lack of more social interaction was a key contributing factor his grades were affected as well as outlook on school research says that children under 18 contract the least amount of symptoms thus no need for a mask i believe all children who fear not wearing a mask should be asked to step down again that's a parent's remarks next my son was new at rockwood last year and already has bilateral hearing loss making it hard for him to hear even without masks covering his mouth then add the stress of trying to make new friends and learn as a combination just for disaster masks should be optional or we will be forced to go elsewhere my child can't afford to use another entire year of learning and flourishing my daughter has asperger's she cannot read

043non-verbal communication we've been able to teach her how to look for facial changes in order to help her socially when the masks were introduced she fell behind at least two years in her progress she became withdrawn depressed and reclusive it has been a long road trying to reverse the effects of quarantine and masks please do not disadvantage the disadvantaged again it's abuse exclamation my daughter is seven years old and very shy with lots of social anxiety about making new friends wearing a mask completely eliminated her ability to read social emotional cues from other children she freaking frequently was upset at night because she didn't know how to make friends and she didn't have any the masks 100 percent had an impact on her mental health she's a rule follower and would not be comfortable going

044to school without a mask that was required if that is the case we will elsewhere i believe i have two more minutes because this is a group they told us we had five minutes my daughter loved school until this last year she was anxious due to people making fun of her for her allergies and feeling like others would think she had coven she was sad often not hearing being able to her peers be able to relate to her peers she had frequent headaches also now my son is on a low dose antidepressant lonely isolated anxiety terrible grades sadness stress next it is like they have forgotten how to play with others she's sad a lot because they were not allowed to play with their friends and eat lunch with others next restrictions not allowing her

045to properly socialize with friends see faces emotions give hugs caused feelings of severe loneliness and depression threats of being sent to the office for not wearing her mask above her nose cause friction and anger principles measuring for contact tracing caused huge anxiety and fear of being sent home to quarantine with no social interaction she feels she's lost everything and she's in counseling i fear we will be dealing with the mental effects of this long term our school put the kids in pods my daughter was with three boys in class and lunch with only the three boys for the entire semester my daughter cried every morning going to school her entire personality changed she hated school but she always loved talking to the teacher did nothing but summer break has been amazing she's her happy bubbly

046self again kids need normal school this year masks must be optional and kids need to be able to play freely on the playground and lastly he was depressed because he was not able to play football with his friends in order for him to play football we all had to go to the next county so they'd where they didn't have to wear masks when he came home from school he was more tired than normal his allergies were worse and they lasted longer he started getting nosebleeds and lastly we are not against you we are for you we are expecting you to do the best for our children we are praying for every one of you and we hope and pray that god touches your heart and tells you the right thing to do for all of

047us thank you i mean that your time i love you all thank you your time is up even you lauralee next we have rachel wood and amy krebs we're also told that we would get five minutes as a group of the ability to change that to five or okay that might be most helpful then it's not interrupting anybody sorry if that's a okay all right thank you last year when i spoke with my children's principal about covid policies he said that all the kids at school were doing great and weren't bothered by masks when my children met friends on public playgrounds however every single one described the masks and roles at school as miserable who do you think i believed well i decided to find out how other children felt and that's why i created

048the survey which i will provide to you in full based on the survey results we have seven key takeaways rockwood's coveted policies have harmed children academically physically socially and emotionally the narrative is that every life counts but what about these lives they are being ignored and destroyed and the negative impacts of restrictive breathing impaired social skills and disrupted learning will have long-term ramifications these policies should never return to rockwood the negative effects of masking reported by rockwood students are consistent with findings in peer-reviewed research which i brought to your attention several months ago three rockwood's coveted protocols are discriminatory against special needs students who require facial cues and unimpeded speech for comprehension and i might say that maybe the reason that my daughter's principal didn't understand that children were suffering is because their faces are

049hidden four rockwood risks a drop in enrollment if parental choice is not honored parents know what is best for their own children's health five the community is definitely split and many have forgotten that other perspectives and world views exist there are parents who like the coped restrictions and you will receive their comments in the full survey many were incredulous that these questions were even asked one wrote it's ridiculous that someone is even even asking this well these responses show why the questions needed to be asked because nobody else was doing it life is nuanced different people have different experiences and struggles and many of the people in this district have absolutely lost the ability to show true tolerance and empathy for anyone who disagrees with them it's time to see that there are more realities

050than your own escape the echo chamber we're not trying to control what anybody else does for their child they can mask they can vaccinate that is completely their freedom and their choice we want the same freedom and choice for our own children we don't want their perspective to be controlling us six dr ricker was appointed to bring calm and unity to the community based on the survey results it doesn't look like that will happen if half the community feels ignored and if they feel that their children are being targeted and abused at school there are real children who are hurting covet is not the only threat that they face in school for the survey and all available data covid is an extremely small risk for children and for any healthy adult the only solution to

051the divide in the community is choice parents who want to mask and vaccinate their children should be allowed to do so parents who want to protect their children from such measures should be allowed to do so and the only intervention on the part of the district should be to cultivate an environment of respect so that all parents and children feel welcome and secure no matter what their individual beliefs or choices are and lastly well seven last year rockwood blamed most of their decisions on the recommendations of outside entities such as the cdc washington university or the missouri health department but rockwood also ignored some of these recommendations for example they opened school when the health department advised against it therefore we expect rockwood to make their own decision about what's best for our children we

052know that legally they have the authority to do so so we reject any recommendations that aren't about parent choice unelected officials will not strip us of our parental rights and neither will the board please do what's best for all children by leaving masking and vaccination up to the parents and with my last few seconds i will also ask the board not to approve any budgets until the website is backed up back up and the proposed budget is made public for everyone to review there's a rumor that the district may be accepting new federal funding in exchange for following cddc cdc guidelines and many parents are against that we don't want to be sold out to the federal government especially one that flip-flops every few weeks on their opinions and lastly the science is settled is

053the most anti-science statement that there is thank you next comment patron comment is greg mclean steven thank you for the opportunity to speak here this evening my soon-to-be kindergartner attended preschool last year for the entire entire school year without a mask he put his books in his bag in his little cubby next to his little buddies he interacted with with his friends inches away from each other without there being one case of kobe uh in his classroom he had a normal happy pre-k year so fast forward this year right um my five-year-old has sensory issues he doesn't like having dirt or marker or pain or anything on his hands he's he's a crazy kid for being so clean right and now there's a possibility that our district might mandate putting a mask on his face

054by mandating masks you're asking my child to enter a building he's never been in before with people he's never seen before and then to cover his face so no one can see his his smile or clearly hear his little voice last year my eight-year-old was ridiculed and given a hard time for wanting a mask break and not wearing his mask correctly by the end of the year he didn't even want to go to school i saw his confidence diminish school school made my usual happy-go-lucky eight-year-old good-hearted kid sad and it broke my heart what happened to building character and concern for our kids mental development i typically don't get involved in these things i've never attended one of your meetings and i've always watched from a distance but enough is enough my kids have suffered

055enough this is my child this is my choice you stick to education i'll stick to making medical decisions for my kids last fall dr miles went against the narrative and did a great job getting our kids back to school last year do that again do that again go against this ridiculous narrative make masks optional and give these kids the normal education they deserve thank you thank you next patron comment is camille subramaniam thank you for giving me the chance to speak to you all tonight this is i'm glad you allow patrons to come speak that's true diversity you get to hear about diversity of thought as a parent i have a right to advocate for my children with regards to medical interventions like masks and experimental vaccines that rockwood school district considers i live with

056my kids so i can assess their health and well-being on a daily basis it's important for you to know that your policies in the past year were damaging to my children's health and well-being online learning negatively impacted my kids but you eventually allowed them to do in-person learning so i think that was a good policy change i'm glad you you changed that but what really upsets me is the potential for forced vaccinations i read in the eureka news leader that superintendent miles said the district is considering whether to require vaccines the fact about these experimental vaccines is that dozens of doctors and scientists are warning about the short and long-term effects of them death infertility miscarriages paralysis bell's palsy blood clots cancer inflammatory conditions autoimmune disease convulsions anaphylaxis heart inflammation specifically in young men and

057antibody dependent enhancement which leads to death and that's just what we know so far we don't know what we don't know the cdc's own vaccine adverse events reporting system vares has posted 10 991 deaths in just seven months previously from 1990 to 2020 december 30 years that number was 2 000. we're at 11 000 just for the covid vaccines so the mandatory masks also gave my daughter headaches and my son a face rash now that they're out of the masks there's no more problems with their medical stuff some people want to believe that the mask kept kids from getting sick this year but that's not true my doc my daughter was sick three times not with the coat not with the covid diagnosis i gathered information about the safety and efficacy of mass to make

058my own decision a german study of school kids showed that mask wearing caused irritability in 60 percent of the kids headaches for 53 percent difficulty concentrating impaired learning and other negative side effects the danish mask study proved the difference between the infa infection rates of masked at 1.8 percent and unmasked at 2.1 percent was not statistically significant the marines found that soldiers without mass actually contracted the virus at a slightly lower rate than those who were masked in social distancing i reviewed the data shared it with the board and did my own analysis i want you to stop forcing these experimental medical interventions on our kids without parental consent we have rights thank you next patron is sudakur supermania how you guys doing um i usually don't attend this kind of meeting this is really

059uncomfortable for me but um i'm here um a lot i think a lot of people talk about statistics so studies have shown that children are not drivers of this confusion uh they also are not feared by adults as super spreaders also well accepted that children have statistically zero chance of dying from covet cdc data shows point zero zero three percent kids die again we know all the core mobility all the other issues walk around with it um from 2020 for 2020-2021 during this pandemic case age account for following statistics is from cdcs of yesterday 337 kids out of kobe plus 400 plus case died of uh influenza and pneumonia and 50 000 kids died you know this whole time um so what i'd like to bring is you know few i've been reading some books

060about the group thing right um the definite group from wikipedia about the group thing requesting to be able to avoid raising controversial issues or alternative solutions the laws of individual creativity uniqueness and independent thinking the dysfunctional group dynamic of this in-group produces an illusion of inver vulnerability that's what our government is doing scaring ourselves and inflated certainty that the right decisions have been made does the in-group significantly over its own abilities in decision-making and significantly underrates the abilities of the opponents the art group furthermore groupthink can produce a dehumanizing action against the art group members of the group can often feel peer pressure and go along with the crowd i've done that long time in fear rocking the boat or of what speaking will do the overall view of their teammates perceive them the group

061interaction tend to favor clear and harmonious agreement it can be can cause a concern when little to no new innovations or arguments or better policies outcome structures are called the question my concern is that we will make this decision we will groupthink how our society talks about this covet situation the other one i'd like to talk is the uh confirmation bias confirmation bias is tendency to search for interpret favor and recall information in a way that confirms or supports one prize belief or values confirmation by the cost previous medication to go to market it flows and then drastically consequence public health all because there were too many yes men in the project for for example merck developed a medicine called vioxx retreat arthritis it ended up causing hundred thousand of heart attacks fda failure to

062recall it made 50 000 premature deaths the fda failed again i'm sorry and then now we have zantac lawsuit and then we also we believe as best is good for construction and we're dealing with mesothelioma at classical lawsuits so what i'm you know we are still learning about this long-term photography i think people talking about we don't know what it is but vaccinate it but we don't know what is the long-term effect of this vaccine we've been producing we've been administering it for less than a year now so let's give it some time i am doing same thing collecting all the data giving some time to make a decision please do so thank you next is david hinson i don't have a pursuit prepared speech but i'm gonna tell you guys that i already pulled

063my kids out of your school district i graduated from rockwood school district i got kicked out of my house at 15 years old by my father i got emancipated i went to the ilc which you guys are now closing down for some reason what the hell's wrong with you people like this is what sir i'm gonna stop you right there please is the hell of an oh well i i'm a i not i apologize apologize not threatening not accusing and using good language that you're closing the ilc yes that's not true it's it's being researched this year but carry on okay you're going to restart my clock when you interact you can have 15 extra seconds yeah i think go ahead i hear a lot about the covet talk listen i'm not here because of

064culpit like covets been done for six months i'm here because you guys are trying to push upon critical race theory and you're going to try to teach my children that they're racist they're not i use my vacation every year of my life to go on mission trips to third world countries i'm a plumber i'm just a guy that tries to do right by god and by right by my children and if you guys are going to try to teach my children that they're born little white racist that's unacceptable unacceptable and i already pulled my kids out of rockwood i bought my house because i wanted them to go to rockwood you're the one that's talking the most that's why i'm looking at you what would have happened if my kids were growing up in the

06590s i'll tell you their favorite tv show would have been family matters their favorite tv show would have been fresh prince of bel-air that's what i grew up with i had busting kids from the city as my best friends as my wrestling partners as my football partners and you're going to teach my kids that they're a little racist looking to you two of you i didn't vote for in this last election it's unbelievable that you would allow this what happened to martin luther king's dream don't judge me by the color of my skin but the content of my character i got 15 more seconds do something you know who i didn't look at next patron we have is uh sorry i'm trying to read this name i'm gonna say mike and the last name starts

066with the g i'm so sorry it's not mike melissa okay and if you just state your whole name when you get up there think that would help thank you thank you you're welcome thank you for having me um i just wanted first i agree with him that was pretty good in a lower in a lower voice but i agree um but i'm here i'm here today to talk about mask i'm very against mask last year i understood i didn't agree that mask was going to prevent covet in any way shape or form but i understood some people were living in fear so i went along with it this year teachers are vaccinated supposedly my kids aren't but i have two children they're both 10 and last year my daughter had headaches she had respiratory problems

067she has allergies and i suspected that it was the mass but her doctor did confirm it and he re he said stay away from the mask from coals they're terrible what happens is the allergens are getting on the mask and they're going right down her throat her nose is covered she that's where the headaches were coming from so it was pretty bad then my son he went from a happy little boy very sociable to not wanting to get out of bed very upset saying i don't want to go to school it was a horrible year but this year i said it's over okay you lived through it you're okay let's move on it won't be that way this year and now here we go all over again next year is there going to be another

068variant and then a year after that when does it end if we're going to wear a mask and you won't stop and you won't listen to parents then i think that it's only fair that you provide surgical masks because the doctor said that those are the best if you're going to wear a mask then those are the best but he said nothing is healthier than natural oxygen so put the mask on and i think you guys should pay for it from the coke funds i think that that's fair but one of the big problems is i think that they should change them and the doctor agrees at least every hour and a half because food and all kinds of stuff that's why kids are getting sick and it's going to continue to happen so you

069can't parents should have choice in the health of their kids these are our kids they're minor children and their health matters and everybody's health matters but we have to use some common sense and i don't know how much rockwood really believes that mass work either considering last year my daughter was exposed to covid and she was quarantined her twin wasn't and i called the nurse and i said well does does her brother get to go oh yeah we don't care he's fine i'm like well okay so what does that tell me something's just weird going on and i just think that parents should have the choice and i don't think rockwood should be going down this road at all i think that a lot of kids are gonna have some emotional um detrimental effects from

070it next patron comment is johanna bodine sir this just isn't a place where we do that that's okay but you're disrupting people while they're speaking this is how many times have i addressed specifically you okay that's it thank you for listening to our comments tonight i'd like to talk to the board about the concept of dehumanization and the dangerous line that we're walking walking in our school district right now we relegate non-human creatures our pets for instance to a lower position on these scales and we've seen this process play out throughout history as it relates to groups of people and it's sad in the not so distant past slavery the jewish people japanese and other minorities in world war ii were dehumanized it continues today with victims of human trafficking however we are also walking

071the line as it comes to this discussion related to vaccination and masking in our schools those who disagree with an individual's rights call those who don't wish for their minor children to be vaccinated with an emergency youth authorization vaccine that anti-vaxxers anti-science idiots stupid dangerous and numerous other names we aren't those things we're parents and we as parents when we're labeled that way less than human we are being dehumanized our children are being dehumanized government agencies are now encouraging the school leaders to protect their populations do you recognize who those populations are made up of my five-year-old who's going into kindergarten who has a speech impediment who would now be if you decide wearing a mask dehumanized we also know that rockwood is intending to accept a 7.8 million dollar grant that requires you to

072follow cdc guidelines we know missouri deci has provided suggestions as to how to use these funds to incentivize vaccination of our minor children we literally have no idea of the long-term impacts of this vaccine on our children will we have grandchildren we don't know if rockwood takes a path to remove the rights of parents to choose whether or not to mask or vaccinate um are appropriate for our children or treat these children differently based on that criteria you are participating in this very dangerous path of dehumanization thank you next patron is jennifer spencer [Laughter] hi i was not even planning on speaking today um but i felt like i needed to i the first thing i want to say is according to the illinois association of school boards i liked their definition what is a

073school board and what does it do they say the basic function of these of school boards today remains the same to provide local citizen control over education at a point as close to the parent and child as possible i don't think that's what any of you are doing at all i think the disdain that you have for parents is evident and obvious especially you jamie when you the way you spoke to my friend amy a few meetings ago stood up pointed to the door and yelled at her to get out was disgusting the way that you went over to this man and censored his speech before this meeting even began was disgusting this is a public building this meeting hadn't begun yet the way some of you sit here the way you're looking at me

074now actually the way some of you sit here and act like you're so bored slouching in your chairs you can see on the video when you're watching at home you can actually see the eye rolling and the little glances at each other it's gross it's disgusting i don't think you know what you're supposed to be doing as a school board if you don't think that you can tolerate parents and their opinions maybe you shouldn't be on the school board maybe you should voluntarily step down the last thing i want to say well the second thing i want to say is about masks when we breathe it is respiratory waste that we are exhaling it is bodily waste that we exhale forcing children to rebreathe their own respiratory waste and that's what it is waste is

075equal to asking them to drink their own urine lastly i think that all of you need to be very familiar with the court case clark versus democracy prep i don't know if you've heard of this case or read it or studied it a black mother and a biracial son in nevada are suing their publicly funded school because of crt social emotional learning a court recognized expert said that is what they're teaching in schools across the country and it violates eight civil rights of children next featuring comment is jessica jessica viola julie pfeiffer is next no sir sorry next we have julie pfeiffer then we have paula sheldon show sheldon i believe okay thanks thank you for your time thank you for all the hard work that you do and as a grandma i'm up here

076i just had a question about a twitter on june 27th by dr terry harris who is the head of student service i just ha as an educator former retired i don't understand it i thought maybe there can be some clarity for that the goal of education should be to allow students to show up authentically speak their language and have liberated souls and i didn't see any learning goals in that and i was just wondering how would you measure that thank you thank you next comment is katie becker i'm short um thank you for having me and allowing us to speak tonight i actually wasn't really planning on speaking it's my first actual meeting i've attended in person and um i want to talk to all the members here tonight about um parents choice to mask

077and vaccinate i'm not here to talk about the efficacy of either i'm not here to argue the pros and cons what i am here to state is that as parents as a parent of three children in the rockwood district it is my right my privilege my honor to make those decisions for my children just as somebody who has differing opinions than mine it is their right to make those choices for their children with the utmost respect i say this it is not your choice okay you have no rights over my children's medical decisions their health that is my right as a parent and i just urge you to remember that as our taxpayers as your constituents as as the parents these are our little babies these are our children and it is our right as

078parents to make these decisions thank you thank you next patron is krystal domigalski hello um i also have never been to a board meeting before i actually was not going to speak i i wanted to come in and there are actually several of us we wanted to come in tonight and just listen be a part of a board meeting i have two daughters and one going in ninth and one going into fourth grade i wanted to see what it was like i'm a taxpayer i have two daughters but i wasn't allowed to come in unless i spoke i had no idea until i got to the door and i think we should change that i think that our community should be allowed to come in and set down i heard several ladies say they wanted

079to see you they if they had a chance they wanted to meet you so i think that um we should all get to come in and sit down and listen again i didn't want to talk i wanted to come in and just see what this was all about but i had to come in and make up kind of do a few things just so i could get up here and come in but while i'm here um so again i think we should talk about maybe changing that let's let more of our community come in and be a part of these board meetings even if you don't agree with what they have to say we should all get to hear um what everyone wants to say secondly i too would like to say something about masks

080we all wore them last year the moment that rockwood said that they were going to be optional over the summer both of my daughters were like yay they did camps this summer they did volleyball and basketball camp nobody was wearing the mask we were all healthy they were all fine there was we were fine and i will tell you that i was in the gym for volleyball at summit picking my daughters up every day and given the choice there was hardly any kids wearing a mask so i will tell you that most parents did not have their kids at mask at least at summit they did not so maybe if you really want to know when maybe you don't want to know maybe send out a survey but again if you don't want to know

081you don't have to do it but we have time we have time to get a survey out there to the parents see what their choice would would be as far as masking the kids i think like what many others have said we just want to have the choice for our own kids if there is a parent and they're they are adamant about masking their kid they absolutely should do it anyone should have the choice whether or not they want to mask or not mask their child and we should all be on board with whatever a parent wants to do but we just want to have the choice you know we just want to have that freedom this year my daughter wants to enter high school and show her beautiful face okay thank you thank you

082next we have terry mclean good evening and thank you for having me speak i actually am one of the people who came uh just to sit in on a board meeting i'm a grandparent of a couple kids who are in rockwood one was removed from rockwood and goes to a different school but i actually came tonight i live in eureka i grew up in eureka i went to eureka high school as did most all my family went to either eureka or lafayette so i have a long history here i love this town i love this school and i came tonight because i've been very disappointed in what i have been hearing and seeing i'm very aware of what's happening nationally at all of the school board meetings across the country so i know that it

083is very stressful and probably not what you bargained for when you ran for a board seat so i appreciate how hard it must be for you i appreciate that you're volunteering your own personal time and giving up so much of it but i have been very disappointed in rockwood honestly in reading the letter of you know one of the teachers sent that was not transparent to the parents and you know tonight i came because i wanted to meet dr richter and i was very excited that i looking at your history your background your resume um i'm very hopeful that with his experience and his background that he's going to bring a fresh look at what is happening in rockwood and maybe help support those teachers and the parents and get back to what we're all

084here for which is the children and i think we've lost sight of that and i hope that um that all of you could stick take a step back parents are very upset and it shouldn't be this way rockwood was never this way it is a great school there are great teachers i'm a very active grandma volunteer and i'm just so saddened by this and i really hope that with new leadership with fresh eyes you know sometimes that helps us just take a new look at things and maybe make some changes and maybe even you know i was very disappointed that you're not allowed to come in i pay a lot of taxes if you live if you live in eureka you know how much taxes all of us pay um and you know it goes

085to the schools and i support the schools and i vote every time for a school board amendment to pass so you know i think we should be allowed in we're interested we care and we're here for the children so i thank you for all your time and i'm just hopeful that we have a new fresh start so thank you thank you next is sandy wengler are you sandy you're chris chris rehnquist i today i received a text from sandy who's who we were we weren't prepared to speak today i have children that have been in the rockwood school district for 12 years and i too don't want to steal anyone's i feel like everyone has preached what i'm going to say and that is i came to listen tonight and i just wanted to share

086with you my experience of coming because when i pulled up there were two cop cars on both sides of the stairs we entered into the building and obviously i i appreciate the security but then people were coming outside with signs and sitting back into their cars or sitting on the steps and i i was confused i was like well i and then i was handed this thank you for attending the board meeting after i get in the meeting there are some reminders on the expectation for the patron comment portion of the meeting which is the only i couldn't come in here unless i had something to say and that was really disheartening 12 years that i've paid taxes in the rockwood school district which we've been for the most part pleased with the education that

087our kids have gotten but there's definitely room for improvement so it talks about how we'll be allowed three minutes to complete our comments so please plan accordingly thank you for your cooperation i just feel like it's so important to realize that as i went outside and i was actually with the metal detector three times and in doing that i was talking to people outside because i've never been to a school board meeting neither is the friend who invited me and so i asked around and was asking people there were six of us on the steps i've never been to a school board meeting and then i went to the little probably hear them in the van they're parked with food and six of them have never been to a school board meeting there are 12

088of us here who are having to say things to stand before the school board that's not right 38 seconds so i just wanted to share through my eyes what my experience was because i didn't anticipate tonight to go like this at all so maybe you should rethink that you've got some good parents out there who are concerned about their kids and i think we just need to make some little tweaks and work it differently so thank you for listening to me i was certainly not prepared to say anything thank you chris next is sandy wengler okay next his last comment is danielle morgenthaler so like many of the people that you've heard from tonight this is my first time attending a rockwood meeting and i had no intention of speaking and i've never met any

089of the people who were here this evening i had no intention of speaking but like our children i don't learn well on zoom i like to be in the room um i think that this exercise of allowing 11 people in is a thinly veiled attempt to keep the people of rockwood that you serve out of this room and at arm's length it's easier if you don't see us my children are older but i hear from parents every day that the decisions being made by bodies like this are crippling their children and actually just as i was sitting here this evening this made me rethink how i feel that covet has affected education i originally thought it was awful and now i'm beginning to think that it is an enormous blessing because it has unmasked what

090you are doing to our children i know a lot of people in private school and home school and they feel like they can outrun what you're doing here and i'm going to make it abundantly clear to them that they can't and that they are going to need to start showing up here as well finally as i was standing out there listening to some parents someone was talking about a ninth grade literature choice that has been made by somebody that evidently has themes and language that would make a sailor blush and yet the plumber was chastised for his tone and his language so i just i just think that there's a lot of things here and that um people other than public school families need to start paying attention and showing up and letting you know

091how they feel about the way you're using their dollars thank you all right so that concludes patreon comments for this evening and next is item number 9.01 sir we are no you may not thank you for being here please step out of the room we're going to finish our meeting thank you next we have 9.01 future agenda presentations and events to attend i don't think there's anything up there but we do have the couple of things coming up and we have um the msba conference coming as well we also have a superintendent and board comments which i believe i watch right past at some point so i apologize so dr ricker would you like to speak this evening and welcome and thank you for being here tonight thank you madam president uh just a few

092brief comments um first of all thank you for the grand welcome that i've received from the 22 days that i've been officially in the district um i've been talking and listening and many different voices in our community i've gotten hundreds of emails several phone calls more emails than phone calls and i really look forward to listening and hearing what people have to say based on the issues in the district now and well into the future but i think we have a wonderful school district i think we have great educational opportunities for our students and i think that uh there's a lot of good going on on our district we just are in some challenging times over many many issues and i think people who have been with the district people who are in the district

093the administration the district office team the administrators the wonderful teachers that we have and and the wonderful students that come to our schools i personally can't wait for school to start to be real honest with you we've got next week our two days of our administrative conference and i'm excited is i'll get out to get uh just to know more people more quality leaders that we have in our district the past month we've been working on forensic with forensic specialists as you all know and the fbi to investigate ransomware in our internal systems through that investigation the forensic specialist determined that the district's systems were subject on unauthorized access as a result some student employee information have been affected at this time we have no evidence of any misuse of student or staff information out

094of an abundance of caution anyone's information that was presented at the time of the incident we will be receiving notification those people will be receiving notification via the united states postal service mail with details as to what information related to them may have been impacted safeguarding the confidentiality privacy and security of our information is one of the highest priorities we have in our district we remain committed to protecting the information in our care and will continue to take steps to continuously improve and further enhance the security of our systems i want to especially uh recognize our outstanding technology team who's been working 15 to 20 hours a day to help us deal with this issue and i want to reassure the board of education in the community that we will take whatever steps needs to

095be taken to make sure that we secure our information but we know we're in a world today that technology advances on a daily basis as well as nefarious individuals who try to get to the information that we have so we will have to continually update our technologically uh enhanced security systems and continue to do to do audits to make sure that we're safeguarding the the data that we have that we're uh privileged to to keep um the next thing i'd like to mention is that we it's kind of not the same subject as covid vaccines but school vaccines and back-to-school vaccines are something we have to look at on an annual basis that's required by law but we have on august 23rd the ability for students to get their shots if they don't have them

096yet and we would hope that the visiting nurse association will do the shots on august 3rd at salvage and august 9th at eureka high august 16th which is mrs mandel and my birthday uh at rockwood south middle school from four to six and we would encourage everyone to look to see if those vaccination dates fit for them to get their students in line with the immunizations that are required by the state i would say because comments were made earlier tonight that there are state mandated vaccines mandated vaccines but there are also situations where students can't get those vaccines that are are under law as well and i don't believe that i have seen anywhere in the 21 days 22 days that i've been in this district where anyone in rockwood said we will be doing

097mandated coveted vaccinations so i wanted to be clear with that the other thing i wanted to be clear with is i haven't seen anything in the uh recovery acts one two and three esser one two and three are the various other recovery acts where funds are going to the school districts that are requiring anything related to cdc although mitigation some other situations that are best practices are required as well as uh transparency and reporting how that money is being spent and and community engaging community engagement with those dollars so i don't i didn't want to let that pass because it sounded like we were spending money getting money spending money on things that the community the public doesn't know about there are we will publish uh web pages that show where that where those dollars

098are what they're used for and how we will be spending them so i wanted to to just take the time to to make sure that people understood where we were at and then finally uh i don't know if she's here or not i don't think so but i had the opportunity earlier in the week to go to the teacher of the year uh celebration for ed plus for all of the teachers of the year if you will in our area and boy eureka was a high school and the rockwood school district was well represented by a lauren shellhorn and she will i'm hopefully she will become competing for the state teacher of the year she's a wonderful teacher i had the chance to meet her principal again i had a chance to meet her husband

099which was even more fun because i had to thank him for letting us take all of their time uh to help the kids at eureka high school and it was fun it was a fun occasion it was fun to hear from all of the regional winners but that's our winner and i'm so proud to to announce that today so i would like it to you to give her a round of applause and great achievement and with that being said uh i think you're gonna find that i like other superintendents that have done their superintendent comments they sometimes read i'm better not reading so bear with me until we find our way i found my way on the superintendent comments but uh thank you very much for the opportunity to speak up yeah thank you for

100your flexibility and thank you for being here we're happy to have you all right any board comments this evening yes i have two comments one i want to thank dr ricker for one of the things that he's already instituted if anybody noticed is that in our agenda and items now are tied to our way forward which keeps us very focused on our goals and missions and i i thank you for doing that it really keeps us on track that's the first thing the second thing is i i would like to make it publicly known we're admitted still mitigating which is one of the reasons we can't have a room full of people all over uh we're limited on the number of people and spacing that we can have in this closed area it's not that

101we don't want parents here not that we don't want them to participate in our board meetings but we're still mitigating under cobin restrictions thank you any other board comments i mean i'd like to bring some good news um we received an email this week my son is in percussion um mr peter rep announced that the summit percussion ensemble has been chosen for the missouri music educators association 2022 conference they are one of one they only select one and that includes collegiate uh applicants you know this dr rigger so they've been chosen for the first time in history in school history so this is a big deal this is like state for you know like a football championship this is their state and they and they've won so it's a huge honor for them to go

102these kids uh mr rep they've all worked so so hard and uh it's it's a big honor and he also stated that their old homie the uh rockwood summit symphonic orchestra was also selected so we have two summit uh groups going down to mmea so that is a big honor for rock with a huge honor for summit so congratulations to those kids it's awesome thanks for ending on a positive note randall any other board comments all right we will adjourn the meeting
