administration of rockwood school district had to make the difficult decision to remove the thin blue line flag patches from the baseball uniform hats of eureka high school while we believe the patches should not have been placed on the hats to begin with we support dr miles and the administration and having the patches removed not only did the patches not adhere to misha guidelines but this flag has been misused to stand in solidarity against black lives in striving to create an environment where students and staff feel seen heard and validated we must recognize that a symbol which causes division confusion and hurt is not meant to be placed on uniforms representing the school we are encouraged to hear that there are constructive conversations occurring and we hope that they continue to occur the conversations regarding race
and the meaning of the thin blue light flag are conversations we have to have we are hopeful that the current discomfort in our district allows for growth to occur within the district as a board passionate about equity we look forward to conversations continuing within the rockwood school district district as we navigate hard topics together thank you from the board members of rockwood reel my next patron comment is from sloane cowell hi i too i'm a friend of two children in the rockwood school district and i just came to say congratulations to tammy romberg and jamie vase that's it thank you thank you very much two minutes and 48 seconds left just in case there was anything thank you all right next step is superintendent and board comments dr mark miles thank you so much i

team [Applause] in rockwood we are committed to addressing the social and emotional needs of our students particularly during a time of uncertainty with the covet 19 pandemic our district and school staff members are eager to listen to and collaborate with students as we all work together to find ways to continue to expand the support and resources for our students staff and families to ensure the safety well-being and success of our entire community an example of this collaborative spirit can be found at marquette high school where students and staff work together to create a web page devoted to social emotional and mental health resources on the marquette website that page has now been replicated for the communities at all 10 rockwood middle and high schools our student services department in response to the thoughtful and passionate
presentation by our mission mental health awareness student representatives at the february 4th board meeting has also launched an all-in community conversations webinar series that seeks to build connections between educators students parents and community members by featuring speakers who've thought deeply on issues of mental wellness in our education system we held our first session featuring the chad's coalition for mental health on tuesday night this is ex is extremely important work and we will continue to seek input from all corners of our community as we do our best for all of our children and finally tonight this week is national library week and i wanted to take a moment to recognize some of the many ways in which our rockwood librarians are going above and beyond to expand resources and services to meet the needs of all
of our students in person and at home during the covet 19 pandemic whether it be virtual book talks and tastings implementing processes to ensure sanitizing of books or providing curbside checkout for at-home learners our librarians have been truly innovative when it comes to making sure our students continue to have access to reading materials happy national library week and thank you to all our librarians for all that they do for our school communities round of applause for our librarian that is all i have this evening all right open it up to board comments and if i could make a quick comment i would like to just thank director mandel for her past several years of excellent service to this spot up here as president of our board you have led us through a lot of very
challenging times and you have done it very well and i would like to thank you for that and um also do you live in during your time and you're continuing on but i will be leaning on you no doubt to uh learn this role to hopefully do it as well as you've done it so thank you thank you very much thank you any other board comments yes we have four great donations tonight the next part that's not on this one no we're still talking about comments okay i will take that back worth my weight no other comments i would like to graduate you jamie and tammy for your uh win i guess we would say at the with the four elections but i would also like to thank our community for getting out and making
their voices known uh it was i don't know 18 is a strong turnout but i perceive that it is and um i think all those who who voted and expressed their desire and and the conversations that we heard during the campaigning process that will help us help guide our thinking thank you all right other comments we will move to uh item 7.01 could i have a motion to approve the consent agenda items as submitted motion and a second any discussion yes we have four once again four great donations tonight the first one is for child nutrition donation is from caps caps and i had to look it up but here's what caps is is the industry leader in its custom automated plastic systems design and manufacturing services for providing injection molded dispensing closures and custom
plastic packaging they're located in bridges in missouri they've given one thousand dollars monetary to help pay for students meals r-a-o-k funds to help pay for students meals the second one is another great donation this is from the green pines elementary pto for technology twelve thousand four hundred and nineteen dollars and seventy five cents to replace and upgrade our projector and screen in the gym kcav installation and all products associated with adding a rear-facing project an automatic screen in our gym third one is another great donation from evan coonrod non monetary three thousand dollars 2020 jv winter guard show time and services donated for show design choreography rehearsal and camps for lafayette 2020 jv winter guard show and the last one seemed like a recurring one every time from rockwood summit this time from the rockwood
summit high school pto monetary eight thousand eight hundred and forty three dollars to support staff and students at rockwood summit high school over the 20 21 school year pto is allocated 8 843 to the renaissance fund student opportunity funds alumni fund veterans day celebration conference dinners staff support staff recognition days scholarships library and all kinds of other assorted things we thank all for these for the donations really a nice really a nice group thanks thank you dr kinder any other discussions about these items the motion is already to approve the consent agenda items as submitted all those in favor say aye aye anyone opposed okay that passes next up is bond issue purchases and related contracts over 150 we have two uh different motions as part of this piece of the agenda the first is
a motion to approve the bond issue purchases and related contracts over a hundred and fifty thousand dollars from burns and jones construction for construction of a new soccer field roadway at babler elementary we have dr northington wait we need a motion sorry so good motion in a second all right now we have you good evening uh this is a request coming from facilities it's part of our 17 2017 broad issue cycle maintenance proceeds at the last meeting christopher and brought to you paving projects that we're doing at the wildwood transportation lot in green pines elementary this request here is for paving at beverly elementary school it'll be paving improvements to the rear side along shepard road they'll also expand some of that along the track to help prove improve traffic flow and patterns improve safety
in that area we'll also pick up about 24 additional parking spots so there's a there's a traffic initiative safety initiative and then additional spots involved with that we had good bitter turnout vernon jones was a low bed that as you can see there at 535 000 we had five other uh very respectable bids as well uh we've had very good experience with bernie jones and uh we're excited about getting this project done this summer does that mean that when parents come in to pick up their kids in the afternoon on that backside they'll be able to drive all the way around the soccer field yeah so it's going to be very similar to what you kind of if you've been to ellis field to where they kind of make that loop around we'll be able
to loop around that track and get more in there and kind of keep the foot in car traffic give them another another 50 spots on it yeah 50 places in line that's good yeah during the summer be ready for the fall excuse me it'll be done during the summer and be ready for fall yes it'll be done this summer ready for that school year start of school exactly that soccer field be off limits in the summer will that soccer field out there be off limits in the summer uh for a period of time okay yes couple of weeks all right any other questions about that one the motion is to approve the bond issue purchases and related contracts over 150 000 from burns and jones construction for construction of new soccer field roadway at babler
elementary is this a roll call no so all those in favor say aye anyone opposed okay that passes thank you next we have a motion to approve the bond issue purchases and related contracts over 150 000 from haddock education technologies for promethean flat panel displays move motion second and we have mrs deb catrin this evening and i'll just say i'm very excited about the parking lot uh renovations at babbler so um this is being brought to you it is a renewal of a contract that we submitted last year for approval we do one-year extensions so that we're not outpace are being tied into the existing technology if something changes drastically we are still very happy with the promethean flat panels and they are still working well for us so we're going to continue to install
those for our schools i mean this this says 350 000 but non-issue is only worth 250 000 is that right if if i had scrolled down farther you would see up to a hundred thousand dollars from school funds or outside funds sometimes a school will want one in an area that we don't cover and their pto is generous and we'll donate money will this be a every year occurrence like that until we get where we want or is it ever never ending cycle this is part of our cycle maintenance just um just like we do cycle maintenance for other things with facilities so they last about five to ten years and so we just have a constant refresh going thank you questions right so the motion is to approve the bond issue purchases and related
contracts over 150 000 from haddock education technologies for the promethean flat panel displays all those in favor say aye aye anyone opposed and that passes next we have the proposed agenda for the april 22 2021 board of education meeting we have a few more items at that one than tonight an awards assembly george march 6th and then they'll be virtual again so it'll still be here okay may 6 sorry let's not go backwards 86 may 6. you say that will be virtual yes so we'll still be here all right no other discussion on the agenda we will look at 9.01 future agenda presentations and events to attend which we are hitting the busy season of spring and and wrapping up the school year so it looks like we've got uh sunday may 2nd the rose
awards celebration at lafayette high school from 1 to 4 30. i think that's divided into a couple sections so there'll be two groups one to two thirty and three to four thirty okay and i sent out an invite so anybody who hasn't responded if you could respond so i can let communications know how to plan for that because part of it will be inside and then they'll have refreshments outside for each group jane at the board will be there the entire time though or um if you can't be just let me know when you can be okay you know they just want more um presents there as much as they can so it's basically going to be like a board awards sort of concept where there's just refreshments outside there's not yeah similar no meal
and stuff again yeah okay [Music] and then we have the four high school graduation ceremonies coming up back at the powerplex rockwood summit on june 1st lafayette high school june 2nd marquette on june 3rd and eureka high school june 4th each will be next the following week yes as soon as i get those dates i'll put a tentative on there so that you'll know and i just wanted to put these on here because originally we were wednesday thursday friday we were wednesday thursday friday saturday but now we're tuesday wednesday thursday friday so your calendar should show that i changed the appointments around for the graduation ceremonies could be similar to last year yes all right so you'll keep us posted i'm sure by email and our calendars if anything else comes up um so that
is all we have in here tonight and we will be returning to closed session to close out our meeting so thank you all for being here
