001All right, good evening everyone. We're getting ready to uh start our meeting. So, first [clears throat] we're going to go with the pledge of allegiance. So, if those that wish to participate, they're invited to stand, face the flag, and remove any hats and place your right hand over your heart. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Great. Next up is our recognitions. >> Yes. And please uh bear with me on names. We got lots to read here this evening. >> A lot. >> Yes. That's great. All right. First item is the uh 202526 seal of biiteracy recipients. The Missouri seal of biiteracy is an official recognition awarded to graduating students
002who have demonstrated high level proficiency in English and at least one additional language. This honor celebrates academic excellence, cultural awareness, and readiness for a global workforce. So the board of education would like to recognize the following students for their dedication to multilingualism. Last year's recipients uh Ivan Kilkovich and Lydia Alsafar and this year's honores Adil Azim Bonner Valerie Leang and Yagut Algra you'll come forward. Okay. Ivan Kilkovich, Lydia Alsafar, >> Adil Azim, >> Valerie Leon, Pan Yag. parents, after Gina takes her picture, you're welcome to come down, too. Please make yourselves comfortable if you want pictures. >> Yeah. [clears throat] Hold still, guys. >> [applause] [applause] >> Okay, so you guys can be seated. Oh, she stay okay while I say my 10 words. Good evening. I'd like to take just a moment to share
003an update on these students earning the Missouri seal of biiteracy for both last year and this year. But first, I would like to give honor where honor is due. [clears throat] The high school foreign language department, counseling office, office of Dr. Ray and Dr. Welch, Gina Zervos, and Missouri S&T's Rebecca West have all been instrumental in making this event happen. So I ask them to be present along with our recipients. My deepest gratitude for all the advice, assistance, purchases and neverending questions and above all else your patience. The Missouri syllabi literacy as he has mentioned is an official recognition awarded to graduating students who demonstrate proficiency in English and at least one additional language. This honor highlights not only academic proficiency in English, but also valuable real world skills such as communication, cultural awareness, and
004global readiness. Earning this recognition provides several important benefits. It strengthens college applications and resumes. It may qualify students for college credit at certain institutions. And it signals to employers that students are prepared for a diverse global workforce. I also want to recognize the dedication behind this accomplishment. These students have committed years to developing language skills, and our staff at the high school and beyond have diligently supported them through instruction, assessment, and guidance. This achievement reflects our district's commitment to academic excellence, multilingualism, and preparing students for success beyond high school. Moving forward, we hope to continue growing participation in this program and expect and expanding access so that more students can pursue and earn the seal of biiteracy. It is truly my desire that the Missouri seal of biiteracy not be viewed as award exclusively to
005English language learners but rather to recognize all students who are developing proficiency in more than one language and intentionally pursuing the path of biiteracy. These students have demonstrated their proficiency through approved assessments, coursework, performance aligned with state guidelines, and heaven and help us all, the language assessment. So, thank you for your continued support. We appreciate you. [applause] Next, we'll go on to StuCo Rala Junior High. The board of education proudly celebrates the RAA Junior High School Council Student Council and their adviserss for earning the Missouri Association of Student Council's Gold Honor Award at the 2026 State Convention. These accomplishments highlight the excellence of our programs and the invaluable guidance of our talented adviserss and sponsors. We're incredibly proud of these young leaders and look forward to their continued success in the bright futures ahead. So, I'm assuming these are the RA Middle School contestants, award winners that are here this evening. together. >> No. Just walk. >> [applause] [applause] >> Okay, next we're
008going to have the Raleigh Junior High students come down. >> I need to I need to be sitting down here. >> It's good. Right there. >> Maybe take a step forward so we can make two rows. Oh, maybe it'll fit together. Squish. >> Hold your plaques up. >> It's not in front of your face. >> Nice try. >> [applause] >> a little rough. >> Thank you. [applause] Now we have the students from RTI that are going to come down for their certificates and photographs. You want to keep that baby? >> Chelsea. >> Hi. >> There's a baby. The board of education is proud to recognize Valerie Leang for exceptional natural achievements in creative writing, journalism, and poetry. Valerie's dedication to her craft has earned her prestigious honors across multiple disciplines, marking her as one of the top young writers in the country. I'm not going to read all
010her all this, but congratulations, Valerie, on these incredible acco accomplishments that continue to bring pride to the Rala community. Try new things with it. [laughter] >> You got it. [laughter] Congratulations. [applause] >> Should I go out there? >> Okay. Very good. >> Yeah. I just want to point out what she what she won. Sorry. Sorry. >> Okay. Okay, sorry. I just wanted to mention that um Valerie won the National Gold Medal in speculative fiction. That is a pretty big deal even though she doesn't want to admit to it. Uh it it means that she has merited an invite to attend the national ceremony and uh the National Awards Week in New York City. So, it means that she's one of the best writers in the country and um she's pretty amazing. I think we'll see
011her name on the cover of a book one day. So, >> wonderful. >> Thank you. [applause] A, that's the best. >> Okay, she's genius. >> Junior. >> Okay, next, the board of education is proud to recognize our very own student representative, Ashton Stony, for his outstanding achievement in the M Missouri Youth Tour Essay Contest. After navigating a rigorous blind judging process and a competitive interview evaluation on cooperative knowledge and leadership, Ashton was selected as a top student from Raleigh to attend the prestigious Washington DC trip this June. We also celebrate Monae Lefas and Wyatt Stowe for their impressive performances earning earning them well-deserved honors at the state capital in Jeff City. [applause] I thank the board for honor me for this uh amazing uh position in the trip that will definitely stay with me for
012a lifetime. I also like to thank my uh not this wasn't just accomplished by my own writing ability but also many other people who helped me achieve this such as Mr. Brooks helping me, guiding me through the this writing process and my parents who gave me insight on what to write about and just the amazing judges and people who and the electric co-op who put this all together. I thank everyone who gave me this ability to go to Washington DC and just learn and advance in who I want to become as a person and I'm excited for the opportunities ahead of me. Thank you. >> Congratulations. [applause] >> Okay, >> I'll turn that back over to you. >> All right. for just a little bit. >> All right. At this time, any person wishing to
013speak on any question previously discussed through administrative channels and not on the agenda will be granted three minutes to make a presentation to the board. >> I don't [clears throat] have any cards. >> Have anybody? Okay. Seeing none, we're going to move on to presentations on agenda items. Any person wishing to speak on any items on the agenda will be granted three minutes to make a presentation. >> Seeing none, we are going to move on to the acceptance of the election results. >> Do I need to do this part? Okay. >> The board of education had uh three three-year positions for director. An election was held April 7th of 2026. The results for director are presented for acceptance by the board. A motion was Okay. So, I guess we need to make a motion those
014results. Do we need to disclose them or >> uh they're they're available publicly. Um and uh do note that we did receive notice from Dent County that there were no votes cast in Dent County. So, that is um those those pieces are in there as well. >> Okay. All right. Then can I get a motion to accept the schoolboard election results? >> I'll make a motion to accept the schoolboard election results as presented. >> I second that motion. >> Right. All in favor say I. >> I. Those opposed say no. >> All right. Now, um, do I Okay. Can I get a motion then to adjourn the meeting? >> I'll make a motion that we adjourn the meeting. >> I second that motion. All right. All in favor say I. >> I. Okay, we supposed
015to know. >> All right. >> Okay. [clears throat] So, first up, uh we will administer the oath of office. Uh board secretary Amy Lubbert will do that to the three newly elected members of the board. So, you guys will go down front. Carla, [clears throat] Sue, and welcome Miss Musadakus. [applause] Okay, if you'll raise your right hand. I state your name. I >> do solemnly swear >> domly swear >> that I will support the Constitution of the United States >> that I will support the Constitution of the United States >> and the Constitution of the State of Missouri >> and the Constitution of the State of Missouri >> and that I will faithfully and impartially >> And I will faithfully and impartially >> discharge the duties of school director >> discharge of director >> in
016the Raleigh School District. school district >> to the best of my ability. >> According to law. >> That's it. >> All right. [applause] >> I got time to make it official. [clears throat] Congratulations [snorts] all three of you. >> Yes. Congratulations. >> [applause] >> it. So, okay. Uh, temporarily acting as chairperson while the board reorganizes, uh, we will conduct, uh, the election for the office of president first. So, at this time, I will open up the floor for nominations for president of the board. >> I make a nomination for Jim Packard, president of the board. I'll second. >> Nomination for Jim has been seconded. >> Any other nominations? Seeing none, I would entertain uh acceptance of Jim Packard as board president by vote. All those in favor, please say I. >> I. >> Any opposed,
017please say nay. >> And the eyes have it. Congratulations, Mr. Packer. >> Thank you. >> Ready to meet me out? >> I'm ready. >> Okay. [laughter] You're ready. >> Let's make this happen. >> Play musical chair. >> Switcheroo. >> Oh, they're not going to mistake me for you. >> Just in case. >> For sure. [laughter] >> Okay. Next. Uh uh nominations for uh >> Go ahead and call your meeting to order now as president. All right. >> And you can take back over. >> All right. Do I have a motion? Oh, I'm calling the meeting to order. >> Yeah. >> Okay. And then uh I'm asking for nominations for presidentelect. >> I would like to nominate uh Charlotte Jameson. >> Okay. >> Is there a second for that? Thank you. >> Are there any other
018nominations? If not, all those in favor of that motion, please say yes. All right. I I >> opposed. Okay. Um, >> and you can do treasur and secretary. >> We need to do treasurer and secretary. So, uh, yeah. Um, next is treasurer. I need a uh motion to appoint a treasurer. I'll make a motion to appoint Sue Udy as treasurer. >> Okay, >> I'll second. >> Okay, thank you, Larry. >> Are there any other nominations? Hearing none, all those in favor of appointing Sue Dailyy as our treasurer. Say I >> I >> opposed. Okay, that motion carried. And I need a motion to appoint Amy Lubbert as our board secretary for another year. >> I make a motion to appoint Amy Lubbert as our board secretary. >> I'll second that. >> Okay. All those in
019favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. >> Okay. You're with us another year. >> Whether you like it or not. Next on our list is the exeicio committee appointments and [clears throat] an action to uh put those into effect. So we'll look at the list now going through uh Mark cells was our A+ committee representative. So we'll need somebody there. Uh I don't know if we want to go through these one. I think it'd probably be easier to go one by one. >> Yes. >> Uh somebody want to be on the A+ schools committee. >> Very often I don't know that they Larry. >> Yeah. Put me down for do that >> core board. Sue, you served that last year. >> Yep. And that's your >> You want to continue or? >> Yeah. I think
020we decided we do two-year terms. Okay. We >> It's It's annual, but you can be on it. >> It's every year, but you can keep going if >> Oh, >> we've been over the course of the last few been doing it >> couple years. Yeah. >> I'll go ahead and continue it for more year. >> Okay. Uh the crisis management team made up of the board president, president-elect, the [snorts] third member, which was Larry last year. So, uh, that would put, uh, >> you and Charlotte. >> Charlotte and, uh, Larry, you want to continue on that? >> Yeah, maybe we'll get in a a an emergency crisis issue. >> No, I'm kidding. I really wish, >> Larry, [laughter] if you jinxed us. >> I didn't mean to. >> Don't do that. >> I'm jinxing. for
021our ESSA title foster care and homeless leaison. Dr. Welch has served as that person which is fine. >> Still me. Still you [laughter] >> this is good. >> Audit committee. >> Uh you could take me off and maybe if Sue wanted to be there that usually the treasurer is on that. >> I'll do it. [snorts] >> All right. I'll stay on there. >> Tracy, you want to stay on there? >> I'm good with it. Yeah. [snorts] >> Okay. MSBA delegate and alternate. That's the board president and the presidentele. So that's uh myself and uh >> Charlotte [snorts] and the policy committee. Charlotte and Larry >> I would like to stay on if that's all right. Um >> and then Christina >> and Christina. >> Yeah. Yes. new. >> That's and the meeting next week. >>
022You're welcome to attend if you'd like. >> Okay. Uh >> since you've read all those policies, right? >> Well, I we did I actually was texting Charlotte about some of them. So, yes, >> please come. >> Don't let that work go to >> go to waste. >> Yeah. The residency waiver committee, >> Dr. Welch and then Sue Udy and I have served on that. >> I'll continue to serve. That's okay. >> Sure. Uh Christina, would you like to do that by chance? The >> the >> residency waiver committee with Dr. Welch? >> Yeah, that's it. >> Okay, I'll give that up. Been on several years. No, no issues working with Dr. Welch. [laughter] >> That calendar committee that has been uh Tracy and Mark. So Mark's not not around. So we need somebody else to
023put on the uh >> calendar committee. Okay. >> We've already done the calendar for next year. So I don't know what that committee is going to do. >> We're going to do it for the next year. >> Okay. >> So that's So I'm sorry. That's gonna be Tracy and Carla. >> Carla. >> And then the student representative committee was Larry. >> Yeah. I don't mind doing that with you. >> No. Yeah, that's >> okay. >> All right. So >> that's Carla also. >> That be Carla. So, uh, do I have a motion to, uh, well, yeah, might as well do that. Do I have a motion to do the, um, exeicio committee appointments? >> I'll make a motion that we accept the exeicio committee appointments as discussed. >> And I'll second that. >> Okay. All
024those in favor say I. >> I. I. >> Opposed. >> Okay. That motion carried. Next are our building assignments. And we're going to draw names somehow for this. >> They're in a cup. >> They're in the cup. The name of the schools are in the cup. >> The name of the schools are in the cup. So, if you'll pass that down, we'll start with Christina. She didn't go first. >> I said in the cup. >> We are going to have uh eight schools instead of seven next year. So, there's only seven names in the cup. The A school is the early childhood center >> and we'll all be sharing that. Who did you get responsibility twice now? >> You can you can go again. >> What did you get? >> I've got Mark Twain. It's
025>> like one of the two. >> I just had RHS just this past year. >> Just pick what you want. Make sure you put them all back in. >> I will. I will. RJH. I haven't had them. >> Okay. >> Oh, I've had those other two also. >> Oh, okay. >> So, I'm junior high. >> Junior high. >> Okay. RTR 2C. I've had them once before, but I'll take them again. >> Is that what you wanted? >> Trade. Trade with whatever you trade. No, no, no. >> We can trade. There's one other building I've never had. >> If I get it, then we can trade. >> Okay. Why don't you just say what building? >> I have elementary. >> I've had them all before except high school. So, this is good. >> Okay. No, I
026don't want yours. I've had yours. We'll let you keep it. Nothing wrong. None. Okay. Don't want that. Oh, I got Ra Middle School. Have you had them? >> Yeah. >> You've had them before? No, I haven't. Oh, good. >> I have the high school. >> Okay. >> Did you have that this year? >> No, I had middle school. >> No, Sue had them this year. >> Is that okay, Dr. Ray? I'm just going to come over and see you guys. >> Weekly hang out. >> It's going to move in. [laughter] >> I just had Wyman this year so you and I can trade. >> Yes. >> But I had RTI. I'm okay. >> I like RTI. >> Okay. I do too. Okay. >> Okay. So, >> so Tracy's taking RTI. >> Yes. >> RTM and
027Charlotte took >> W. I do love my Wyman though. So, you don't >> I know. I'll take good care. I promise. >> I never get anything PTO related. I don't >> I don't think we have to uh >> make a motion for that. >> Approve that. >> No. >> All right. So before we go to the consent agenda, earlier in close session, we accepted some retirements on our staff side. I got to get to the page. Excuse me. [snorts] >> Doesn't feel very comfortable. >> Switch. >> So first on the list is Robert Martins. He's the lead custodian at the high school who's retiring at uh the end of with uh 16 years of service for the for the school. And the second is Alice Lamb, cafe worker at Mark Twain who's retiring at the
028end of the school year with nine years of service for Rala Public Schools. And the third individual is Cheryl Ledllo who's [clears throat] a par professional at the junior high with 26 years of service for all the public schools. So we congratulate them with for all of that service to the to the public and the students here. All right. We have a consent agenda which is utilized by the RA board of education as a means of dealing with routine matters which must be considered by the board of education but require minimum of discussion. [clears throat] All board of education members receive and review written information supporting the items listed on the consent agenda well in advance of the meeting. Well, any board member uh is welcome to remove any item from the consent agenda for
029separate consideration or discussion for any reason. Normally, all items on the consent agenda are approved in one motion with a minimum of discussion. So, it's recommended that items A through D be approved. And I think we're going to talk about Go ahead. >> Yeah. So, uh Dr. Welch, would you mind to start and talk about the math? You bet. Peace, please. >> Yeah. So you'll see in your consent agenda, we have a quote from McGra Hill for the selection of our core curriculum math material materials that we would be implementing next school year. Uh this process of review actually started two school years ago. So during 24-25, myself uh along with Lydia Ross, our instructional math coach, and then we have three um curriculum specialists in the different grade spans over math. So we spent
030some time identifying math resources that um would potentially meet some criteria that we had outlined. Uh we had probably, I would say, eight initial uh vendors or products that we reviewed. We spent some time visiting other school districts that were utilizing those, asking questions, getting to see teachers teach lessons, uh look through some of those materials. We did some consultation with some outside resources at RPDC as well as some university professors um in elementary and secondary education just to kind of help whittle that down. We ended up looking at four um products this year. We brought those four products to the larger committee. That committee was made up of a variety of individuals. So, we had teacher representation from each grade level and all of the content uh areas at the high school. Um we
031invited administrators to be a part of that. We had special education teachers at each of the different grade spans. Um as well as our title math teachers at the elementary and middle level. those individuals um just due to the size of the group and based on the way that those materials are packaged. We brought in our kindergarten through fifth grade teams and they spent two full days with vendors doing I would say probably two to threehour demos where they were able to really get a good in-depth sense of the product, ask lots of questions. Um so two days for the K5 staff and then two full days for our 6 through 12. [snorts] They utilized a a rubric essentially to help them kind of guide through questions looking for key features uh and essentially evaluating
032each of the products in those different areas. We used that along with their independent um survey feedback to kind of help us narrow that from four vendors to two. Once we had identified the top two vendors, we then invited all K12 math um teachers to join us for an additional follow-up demo. Uh that took place in February. So this was basically between November to February. Uh in the time in between there, Lydia Ross, our instructional math coach, she actually taught lessons in classrooms with teachers who expressed interest from both of those series just to kind of get a better sense of what that might look like, get their feedback. Uh we sent questions along the way back and forth to both vendors as teachers were using like the demo codes provided and just better understanding
033things that they might want to know more about. Um all of that was compiled and provided to both of the top two vendors and then during that final demo where all K12 teachers were invited to attend, they answered those questions and highlighted the things that the teachers really wanted to see in that final piece. And then we gave um all of our K12 teachers an opportunity to provide feedback through a survey. Uh based on those results, we saw that 68% of teachers were in favor of the McGraill as the the top selection. And so that's when we started working then with the vendor just to kind of lay out a quote. What would that look like? What are the things that they offer that we would be interested in? Some of the key things that
034came back from teachers that they really liked. Um, in particular, I think the way that this particular series was laid out, the scope and sequence, the pacing, um, the appropriateness, the rigor of the material, teachers felt like it was aligned better to our Missouri standards and would meet their needs. Um, they also identified some of the pieces along differentiation and modifications that they felt like were appropriate. Um, in math in particular, teachers are always concerned about having enough problems for practice. And so that was something that was highlighted uh as a a quality that they really appreciated. We also, you'll see in that quote there is um an um like an adaptive learning piece, an online tool called Alex that all of the teachers were very excited about. Um it's comparable to what we have
035an exact path, but it's very math specific and focused and it's aligned to the actual curriculum. Um, so they'll be able to have assessment data be integrated and create kind of personalized learning paths for students. It'll provide opportunities for differentiation. Um, if students need remediation on skills or if they need enrichment. Um, so they're very excited about that component. So this will serve as a core curriculum. So like what we would consider tier one, all students would utilize this K12. Um it is the core curriculum for math and at the high school level it includes in junior high algebra 1, geometry and algebra 2. Um we are still in the process of finalizing a review of what I would call a tier 2 or tier three curriculum. It is also from McGra Hill. uh this
036was something that we reviewed through this process and if we were to select the McGra Hill for the core curriculum we knew we wanted to see more of that uh component and so on Monday at our PD day we'll have our final uh demo of that it's called number worlds and it is specific to like a special education or title classroom um some of the things that the teachers have noted there uh the text level so the text level's already been modified um to make that uh at a level that would be easier for students to read, provides more space on the pages, uh fewer problems. So things that teachers would be doing to modify the core curriculum, it's already done for them. So the sped teachers, title teachers expressed a lot of interest in
037that resource. And so you may see that on a future um agenda as well for selection and that would be what that component would serve as. So, >> does this curriculum serve our higher level math? The calculus advanced >> goes through algebra 2. Uh, McGraill has other resources that address some of those needs. But in just communication with the classroom teachers, those were the three that they felt like since it serves the majority of students wanting to ensure that we had appropriate sequencing um between those courses. We will specifically look at the high school um about how we specifically implement those over time so that they have an opportunity to start students in the algebra 1 content uh and then make the transition in year two of our six-year adoption to the algebra 2 and
038the geometry course. >> And is there extra professional development for math teachers as we get ready to >> Yeah, we include that in our contract. And so they have a variety of courses that we can select from. Uh they have a whole catalog. They will make recommendations in regards to what they propose in year one. Um in your the quote you'll see that there's essentially enough professional development there to be um delivered over the span of two years. In year one we'll have what I would say will be probably three uh sessions uh in person with facilitators. They'll bring in two different trainers. One will be specific to K5, one will be specific to 612. Um they'll do targeted professional development just to help teachers better understand how the resource is laid out, how to
039navigate it, how to find all the different components. Um there will be additional professional development that we can engage in around the assessment components. And then we did specifically ask for additional sessions on the Alex piece since that's uh another part of that product that we're adding on to our um quote. Um they also put in some uh virtual sessions. So sometimes as teachers have those in-person sessions with someone there to help them, then they go back and implement some things, have some questions, and we just need some of those smaller touch points along the way. And so that's what those virtual sessions will be for. Okay, you answered all my questions but one and that's just to give our public an idea of the commitment that we're making with this in terms of cost
040for this. >> Yeah, it is a huge commitment. Yeah. >> So, the resource in particular um it's a it's a commitment for sure, but we want to make sure that our teachers we've talked a lot since I've stepped into this role about the resources that we select. they are not our curriculum, but they're kind of the vehicle to help us achieve that. Um, and ensuring that we're hitting all of those standards with our students. Um, having a consistent curriculum and having teachers do the work of working through that to see how it aligns to our standards and committing to what pieces we will use consistently. Um, really help us to feel confident that we have a guaranteed viable curriculum that all of our students have access to. So, and we have students that move between
041our elementarymentaries. We want to make sure that that looks comparable no matter where they go and that when they get to fourth grade and transition that all of our elementary students have had that same exposure and just with each transition that that's true for all of our students. So, yep, we're we're making the investment and we'll work and do the hard work to bring everybody along together. >> It is nice though to see that there's quite a bit of free material as well. >> Yeah, >> that's included. >> Yeah, they they definitely work hard to try to do some things. I I will say um Celeste is our um salesperson and we did go back to the quote she originally provided and I talked about the fact that in some of our other adoptions, one
042of the things that I hear frequently is what we select is for those regular education classrooms. Um and our special education teachers often find themselves lacking in terms of resources that are available to them. they can get a code and get access to things online, but in terms of physical tangible um items that's often not included. And so she did throw all of those additional things in for those teachers. I just had to let her know how many special education teachers I wanted copies for and they did not charge us for any of those. So I would say those are truly free items. Um they bundle everything in a packaged price. So while it says free on the quote, really it's a it's a bundled product. Here's the things that you're getting. One thing that
043we're not purchasing or we didn't include in the quote um are the manipulatives that go along with it. We have a lot of existing manipulatives in our classrooms um that have come with previous um you know textbooks that we've purchased. They're pretty comparable across the board. There may be some minor things that we need to purchase, but we can do that in a more fiscally responsible manner through another, you know, purchase through building um funds. And so that wasn't part of this that helped to minimize our cost. And Dr. W um is this a six-year commitment? Is that what you said? So at sear seven, are we is this get renewed? If we decide to continue, >> we'll go through this entire process again and if the committee determines that it's still meeting their needs,
044yes, it could be the the product that we would select again. I would say in that manner of time though, most publishers have made updates to their resources. So it might still be the same curriculum, but they've probably got a new addition available. And so we would be purchasing that newer addition if that's what the committee wanted. >> Would the would the cost be similar or would it be then because we're it's things haven't necessarily changed there would be a lesser cost or we just basically we're renewing at whatever their price is at that time. >> It's whatever the price is at that time and you know how that works. It just gets more expensive year after year. I will say most of the vendors work to be pretty comparable in terms of their pricing.
045So even when we've asked for quotes from two at that top level, they generally come in around the same. They're aware of what other people are charging and they know they have to be competitive. So >> thank you. >> Yeah. >> But it's more than a half a million dollar. >> Yeah. Investment. >> Yeah. It's a little over 500,000. >> Yeah. >> All right. I'm >> Dr. I think wanted to call one for you. >> Buses. Yes. >> Sand. You will notice in there there is a um lease agreement in there for Sand Tander. Last fall, you approved us to per to pursue five buses for our early childhood program for transportation, and that's what this um lease agreement is for is for those five buses. That is a three-year lease that we have agreed
046to with them. Need you to approve that tonight so we can move forward with that. The buses are ordered. Now, this is the paperwork time. Those are 38 passenger buses that will allow us to have car seats and all the things necessary for those. >> It comes with the car seats in certain rows or >> Uhuh. It does. And the price. >> And the price. Correct. >> The price. >> And and just as a reminder, we're leasing because we can be reimbursed for a lease. We cannot be reimbured for purchase. So we're trying to be >> mindful use useful of all the resources available to us. >> Correct. >> That's good. >> It had a a mileage limit. >> 50. >> I was just looking at that. >> It seemed low to me. I don't
047know. >> It will be fine. Okay. >> Okay. >> Yeah. These won't be taking trips. >> These won't go on trips. They will just literally take kids to and from school. Okay. >> Okay. >> All right. >> I need a motion for the consent agenda items A through D. If if nobody else has any questions, >> I'll make the motion >> to um uh to accept items A through D for approval. >> Is there a second to that motion? >> I will second. >> All right. Thank you, Larry. I heard you first because you're closer. >> Yes, you did. >> All those in favor of that motion say I. >> I. >> Opposed? That motion carried and we move on to old oh old business the long range facilities update Dr. Bolton, [snorts] >> March
04814th. >> What' you say? >> March 14th. >> Reading the >> March 14th. It was, you know, >> Oh, the tornado. >> 14 months ago. She's reading the tornado. I'm like, "Okay, where are we at?" >> You've already forgotten. >> No, have not forgotten that day. By not at all. [laughter] Yes, I remember it. >> Um, I have several things for you tonight. We're going to start off with this part and this will get quite confusing. Um, but we are making progress in everything that we do. So, we are excited. Um, if you and you will see later this evening, if you look in from the front doors, the picture on the right is what you will see. Stairs are gone. There are walls going up. It's really exciting. Picture on the left is on
049the first floor. That is what was in Pup's Plaza. So that is going to be the um in that area a mix of the nursur's office and the process coordinator's office. So you will see that later this evening whenever we go visit. Very exciting times. Um again this is the kitchen area. Um so you can see the pipes that are there. See all the concrete is in. And if you notice all of those round things that will be our um it's what looks like a tree. That's a paw. That will be in the middle. be our welcome area and our gathering space for kids and for parents whenever they come in. So exciting. So you were up on second floor looking down on what was Puffs Plaza in that big open area. So um it
050looks kind of small down below when you get up top and you see that um and you will see that you know getting ready you're getting ready to see the whole basis of that floor of the second floor come in. Questions about that? There's steel there's walls. It's exciting. And a playground. So outside they have leveled and worked on the ground to for the base of the playground that's getting ready to come in on our uh athletic field and our turf. You may have noticed that we have not had a lot of work there for the last couple of weeks. We have um we had some long discussions about the drainage. You know, we were addressing drainage issues. So the um Archer Elgen had called for 18inch solid pipe to go in. The turf company
051wanted 18inch perforated pipe. So, um, we bargained. You will see that in a change order in a little bit. Something I had to approve on the immediate list because we needed 18inch perforated pipe. Um, I'm a squeaky wheel. It'll be here tomorrow. So, it's supposed to be two weeks. [laughter] I I don't know how else to say it. I have been the squeaky wheel. It'll be here tomorrow. Um, what you are looking at though is all of the redo of In front of the bleachers. So, um, that's really exciting. All of it is is set for the drainage. You look at it and I stand in there today and I'm like, why is it wavy? Well, it's wavy because every little circle that you see up there right there is a big drain. So, it
052is designed for all the water to go down. So, that is very exciting. And you've seen pictures of the wall on the other side. So, that is very, very exciting. That field is due to be done June 1. I will probably be majorly gray by the time we get that done. Um, but that is our that is our date and that's the date that I've been a squeaky wheel on. >> Yeah, it looked like they put some lights up. >> We did. We have all most I would say we have 90% of the light heads all changed everywhere. So, the LED lights are in um and the last time you approved um the conduit and all of the change for the gear being out on the street to inside the conduit is in um that
053is there. The wiring hasn't been has been run. You are looking at the softball field. All the heads um at the softball field have been changed there. Our light poles were not damaged. So, we were we were able to replace all of those very easily, which was very exciting. Took away everything else, but also you can see the second floor of our concession stand press box. So, a lot of a lot of good work going on there. >> Can I ask you a question? >> Yes. >> Is that the back like is in the foreground? Is that >> uh the field? >> That's the over over where the lights are is the field. So, we're looking at it from so back. So on the other side, is there a window from the concession stand to
054see out to the field? >> There is not. The concession stand is on >> the side. It is on the side. >> Questions? This one will be done on time. We didn't have to argue about pipe for that one. So [laughter] Mark Twain Elementary, if you have driven by there, you are seeing a lot of good progress moving forward. We just need the rain to stop. Um, we were looking for some uh for some CMUs or some block to be going up, but it's been a little rainy to get the rest of the concrete. Um, so it's it's very exciting. But you you were seeing the footings go in and all the rebar there. And on the other side, they have been working diligently on that side as well where the two classrooms will go.
055Questions about Mark Twain? >> It just looks giant. >> It does, doesn't it? >> That's cool. >> Very exciting. Uh, you asked me at the last meeting, you approved um change order three for the lighting gear to be relocated. I told you it would be no more than $15,367. That price has been reduced to $10,472. So, you asked me to give you that update. They saved us about $5,000 there. Wonderful. Okay. So, tonight I will have for you multiple change orders. So, within this, all of the change orders have the same numbers. So, we're doing this differently. Normally, we give you one. We have three essentially three projects going on, so it'll be three different um things. You'll see the same numbers. It's been a little confusing, but we're getting there. So, at the softball
056field, when they started digging um around the footing for that concession stand press box, we found a um storm line, 30-inch storm line. So, we hit it, but it has to be rerouted. It can't run through the foundation of the building. to do that and reroute it is $21,000. I'm arguing with insurance, but I still need you to approve the purchase order. So, um, working on that with them at this time, um, with that, but that is $21,000. So, with that, we had some items at the football field under policy FE1. I am allowed to approve things so it does not impede the progress. and I had to approve these three um p or purchase orders um change orders in order to keep the construction going. That is where the extra um almost $9,000 comes
057in for the perforated pipe. And then it was necessary to back fill under the grandstand. So when they started excavating some of the back some of the fill came out with it underneath those grandstands on the edges we needed to back fill to ensure their safety and reconnect a storm line found on the south end of the field to the tune of $11,000. Overall we had a contingency for both of those projects at 50,000. We have used 34,000 leaving us um 15,000. Sorry I have new contacts. Yeah, $15,415. Sorry about that. >> In contingency. in contingency. We That's It's all covered under the project. >> Yeah. >> Yes. >> Shall we stop here and do this project and approve these change orders or you want to do it at the end? Okay. >> We're going
058to stop and do this because it's going to get confusing if we put them in one. A lot of these numbers are the same. >> All right. Okay. >> So, real quick though, um out of that contingency, what else do we have left to do? >> The um >> Well, we still got to buy the Yeah. >> Yeah. We have some things to finish and we'll see what happens whenever they bring the turf in. I think we have found most of the items so far. There are a few things out there, but not a lot at this moment. >> At this time, we should be past most of the surprises. Yes. So, we're out of the ground. We've got most of the things done. So, we should be past most of the >> most of
059the surprises, >> the major things. >> Okay. What how much of the old field is still left on there? The turf >> right now? >> None. >> Is there not? >> Oh, it's still there's some still there. It's less than 50% on the field or something. >> And you mean turf on the football field? >> On the field? >> Yeah. There's less than 50% there. When the company comes in, we will pull it all at the time. Right now, it is still the rock base allowing that area to drain >> in what is currently there. When they come in, they will immediately go to work, pull everything, and then put everything back in. >> So, right now, that's why we're holding. We need to get the drainage um in with the perforated pipe. That will
060hopefully rain's got to stop, start next week. They're going to start digging tomorrow in anticipation of that pipe coming in. So, um, we're hoping hoping not much when we get in there. >> Okay. >> So, yes, I need a recommendation to approve the KN&S potential change orders 7814 and 15 in the price of 3251. >> Will somebody make a motion for that recommendation? >> Make a motion that we approve the KN&S potential change orders 7814 and 15 in the amount of 32,591 and8s. >> I'll second. >> Okay. Any other discussion? Hearing none. All those in favor say I. >> I. opposed. Motion carried. >> Okay. Potential change orders two. These are for Mark Twain. Um we needed to add a gate to the northeast fence um in order to allow big equipment and people in
061and out. Um most of the all the workers additional steel fabrication and they found some live conduit in the demo area whenever we were inside. So with all of those things at Mark Twain with 100,000 contingency, this is 60 $6,6787. >> Okay. >> Recommendation number two. >> Is there a motion on that recommendation? >> I'll make a motion to approve the change order for Mark Twain. Potential change order 145 in the amount of $6,6787. >> And I'll second that. >> Okay. Any discussion? Hearing none. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. That motion carried. >> Okay. These are the potential change orders at early childhood. I needed to approve these change orders to get some things moving while um between our meetings. So I approved PCO7. We needed to change the kitchen
062hood from a Captiva to an Acurex. That was at the district's request. Um, we were, um, it should not be an F, but a cold form metal framing, wall modifications, six inch studs to 8 inch studs to hold up for what they were in their building and putting in. And then changing some door frame hardware modifications. So, it was literally changing the door swing. I approve those, but you will need to approve them tonight as well. >> What is the difference between the capivo? Is it >> It was district preference for what we work on and what we have in the district. It matched to what we have. There was also a timing piece of that. >> Yes, >> we can get that one. >> We can't get that. >> Yes. Thank you. >> But
063but that is the brand we typically use. So it's it's more consistent with what we do >> when uh Mr. Kelly asks and he works on it. We kind of we listen. So right >> Absolutely. [laughter] >> And consistency [clears throat] is >> absolutely. So tonight bringing to you lots of change orders and I have I have lots of explanations here. So, um, PCO1, changing new urinals to toilets. That was the teacher's request that we not have urinals for the little boys to use. They they use a toilet everywhere they go. So, we we were honoring that. Um, that also included some plumbing issues. Don't know just the toilet. So, that's plumbing as well. Had to do a little bit change. >> How many is that? [snorts] Do do you know just >> It's all
064of our new restrooms. So, all of our new boys. So, that's upstairs and downstairs both. So, um, conformance set drawing changes. Along with that came a lot of other things. That is one that just puts lots of things together. That was because I questioned the $40,000 there. So, within that, there were a lot of changes that came in with those things. Uh, acoustical and architectural revisions. So, we were looking at the type of acoustical material to help the sound not transfer between the floors. We found that out there whenever we were at Wyman West that the sound transfers between the floors. We were trying not to have that happen. So, we were taking some preventative measures with that. Mechanical filters. The filters um in the uh in the units had not been changed in a
065while and we they didn't they had something up there that wasn't right. So, they wanted current filters. So, we're getting a current correct filters. Mechanical revisions, duct locations due to some changing of some walls. water line coordination um that is outside um unsuitable soils that happens all the time. Fire dampers and duct relocations due to some of the changes that we made within the walls. An existing uh toilet room with new new partitions. So the existing toilet rooms upstairs and downstairs had it would have had the old partitions in them. So we did these to match. Any questions on this page? Okay. electrical changes in PCO8. We've talked a little bit about those things where they the company has been really good at when they find things that aren't up to code, they have switched
066it out. And then um flooring and finish revisions, we chose in the classrooms to go from tile, vinyl, our VCT, which is our vinyl tile like we have in the hallways to a luxury vinyl tile, a luxury vinyl plank in there. So the additional cost is $33,26.80. bringing this total today to $329,358.36 with a $500,000 contingency. I will be bringing more to you. Um along with this came a list of things that I that we will need to do, but they don't SM Wilson has some of them. They're just not priced out yet. So know that there will be more coming. They are keeping track of these totals as well. Also, some of these some of these items on here will be paid for by the grant. >> So, know that. >> So, a lot
067of those items, the the structural pieces and the a lot of the duck work changes and some of those things. Uh, anytime you're doing renovation, there's surprises. >> Uh, and so even working off of the plans as they expose some of the walls, we found places where I'm assuming probably when it was a church, they went in and put in like wind extra windows and different things. And so there were headers and things in places that were not shown on plans. And so all that had to be accounted for. Duck work had to be moved. Some different structural beams had to be brought in, moved. Um there were just several pieces. And that's that's pretty typical with renovation. You're going to find surprises. [clears throat] So >> okay. >> So I need a recommendation to
068approve the PC PCOS for the early childhood center. >> Will somebody make a recommendation? I'll make a recommendation to approve the early childhood center PCOS. Don't name them all off, but one, four, and all those in the amount of $329,350.36. >> I'll second that. >> Okay. Discussion hearing none. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed? >> That motion carried. Okay. >> Amy, can you give me the next please? So, tonight I'm bringing back to you a um presentation that some of you will remember um from 2018. It is time to go over our long range facility planning document from 2018. We will be starting this process next fall in conjunction with our architects and with committees. But at this time, let's look at what progress we have made since 2018. So, I
069didn't recreate the will. I'm just going to be honest with you. I pulled the presentation from 2018 and modified it. So, just know that upfront. Okay. Back in 2018, >> give Kelly credit then. Huh? Let's give Kelly credit. >> Let's give Kelly credit. That's right. So, um, in 2018, you can see all the community member committee members that served on this committee to Dr. Ray and I are here tonight. So, we served on this committee back in the day. >> Jim did too. >> And Jim did too. >> and so did Charlotte. So, you know, that's why I'm saying some of us will definitely see this and know what this is. So back in 2018 the general recommendations um we um our quality facilities should be maintained, upgraded and updated through planning um we should
070consider facility upgrades and additions based on projected enrollment and programming needs. I believe we have done that and are doing that based upon what we're doing currently with early childhood and all of the additional additions we've put on. planning facility improvements or upgrades, pay attention to the safety and security of students courtesy of the 2023 bond issue. So, we have done all of those things. I'm not reading it word for word. So, other general recommendations um identified uh consideration of facility upgrades related to food service spaces in all three elementary buildings. I will say that is something that we made better at trimman through through the building in the 2020 bond. Um, thanks to a tornado, we're getting a new kitchen at Mark Twain. Not really kind of what we planned, but it did it
071for us. Um, and then we will be addressing this summer additional storage and things at Wyman with the move of early childhood moving out of that building. >> So, we we are doing that um through the evaluation of current buildings including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, sewer, etc. All of those conditions should be considered when planning to upgrade. We have done a lot of those. As you know, we just did the big HVAC upgrades throughout the district with the 2023 bond issue, as well as our tech continues to upgrade our infrastructure all the time and electrical with all of those things because we have an electrician on staff. Co-curricular needs um warrant the consideration of improvements um to practice facilities and notice, band, drama, vocal music. We just finished the auditorium project within the last year and
072a half as well as PE and the activity programming at RA Junior High and RA High School in addition with the new band rooms, choir rooms, drama rooms. Co-curricular needs warrant the consideration of multi-use performing arts facility. Oh, we have that. So, some good things. Um, and with that maintaining of all athletic facilities, focusing on specific updates. Some things that are there is the high school gymnasium, the locker rooms and support spaces, high school practice gym floor and seating. We did upgrade the ceiling, the seating, the flooring. We have not done junior high practice gym floor. We have not done you did the high school. >> We did the high school practice gym >> first thing. >> The floor. >> See, I wasn't there then. I know we didn't do the junior high. That one
073I do know. Sorry. That one I do know. I do know you talked about doing the bleachers, so that's good. and middle school gymnasium floor and seating. Um we uh continue to evaluate property that lies adjacent to any facility whenever it comes available. We are still working on that as well. Always keep our eyes open. Transportation and maintenance. Um so with this one, I didn't put a lot of check marks. We still have a lot of work to do here. Um need for additional parking and buses and staff thanks to Mr. Clark's creativity. Um and the and the fact that Patrick Phil cleared off the the big field behind us. We have been able to do some of those. They didn't mark it off because it's not where we want it to be, but they
074have made some things there. Need to replace the underground storage fuel. We still need to do that. Um need for additional bus repair space for mechanics, equipment, supplies. That is still a need. Um safety training room for them. That is a need because right now when they meet, we clean out a bay and we put them in there. Um, and then a need for additional space for maintenance, workspace, equipment storage, and staff for renovation of the current transportation building. And need for warehouse space for district shipping, receiving, districtwide surplus, and inventory. Those are all still needs. RTI, RTC and 2018 did not have any recommendations at that time, but in during the 2020 um bond issue, you did do the addition out back with the um with the egg program as well as did the
075bathrooms and did some renovations, some upgrades there. >> And isn't that when we added some of the storage space for was that at RTI? >> RTI. Yes, at RTI. So that was RTC. additional warehouse space that we added. >> Correct. For our food service. >> For food service. >> Correct. So at RTI um we you know the additional shop space improved supervision students for auto tech that was addressed and completed in 2023. The need for the a program updates addressed in the 2020 bond issue completed in 2023 and relocation of a masonry classroom. We did not relocate that but they did some things to improve that space. So, I put question marks there because it wasn't a relocation, but those areas and issues were addressed. RA High School, there were multiple options. I went with
076option two because it really met our needs. There was an option one, option two. We're not covering all of them. Phase one was renovation of the existing band, vocal music room, existing stage area due to current as well as um projected participants. Well, we did that. We renovated. It's now a stage because they got their own rooms in in the storm shelters. Um, again, 2020 bond issue completed in 2025. As I wrote, renovated BA band, focal music, and existing stage area as part of the new auditorium. Phase two was construction of a new gymnasium with circulation spaces, locker rooms, seating for 2,200 spectators, and the renovation of the existing gymnasium into an auditorium. All completed thanks to Dr. Dar's guidance on that. That is absolutely beautiful. Love that facility. And then the construction of a
077new fieldhouse on the Bray complex serving as locker rooms for outdoor events and renovation of existing first floor locker rooms in the high school. I didn't check it. We are using Bray as a visiting locker room. We are trying our best to do some things there. It's not, I believe, where we think it needs to be, but um we are doing something there as well as we have worked on some renovation of those existing first floor locker rooms at the high school. Still probably not where we want them, but we have made some strides there. Questions on RA High School and option two. Continuing the need for additional rehearsal space for band and choir, additional storage space, additional and but all of that has been met with our additions. Um the need for additional space
078around the main gymnasium floor for safety of participants met with the addition of our gym. Um additional gym seating. um an auditorium at the high school that provides permanent seating and stackable seating. We didn't have stackable, we have permanent seating. It's wonderful in there. And the need for improved spaces for art, drama, vocal music and band programming. I checked it um because of the vocal music and band and drama. Um art they we have they have done some improvements down there. I'd say there's need for more. We met with an art teacher the other day when we did a walkth through. I know that they need some more spaces, but again, drama um has a really nice space. Auditorium is great. Need for additional classroom spaces within the existing facility. It says four. We did
079add a written enough room whenever we did the addition down there. That is that outdoor classroom area that is actually meant for addition additional classrooms um down the road. And the need for locker rooms located at the sports complex for all outdoor events. We do not have that. Raleigh Junior High School. Um the need for additional classroom and storage for both band and vocal music that was um completed in 2023 with the uh band uh choir and drama storm shelter as well as a multi-use room to expand the current PE curriculum with weights agility aerobics. We have that we took the old band room, renovated that into a weight room. It's very nice and the need for renovation. We still have not done the renovation of the locker rooms or the existing restrooms in the
080building with that. There was also the need for two they we they wrote in the need for two science classrooms um as well. Um we have not done that either and the need for a secure supervised entrance on the east end of the facility. >> Yeah, I remember that discussion. >> I still feel very strongly about that. I want you to know that was one I think I led back in the day. I still very strongly >> we bring all of our public into that east end and is not the not not the nicest end of our building. So >> still >> Rola Middle School, the need for additional classrooms and additional vocal music room and storage. We moved the seventh grade um to Raleigh Junior High which eliminated that need at that time. Um
081and then upgraded all the HVAC system in August of 2024. We replaced 77 units and we replaced 17 in 2026. I don't know what to say. [laughter] Um, they wrote in there a need for an additional set of restrooms to upgrade the gym floor, conference room space. They have taken some spaces and actually made them conference rooms. The nurs's office has not been renovated. Still a need. And then I marked on here and highlighted the need for some site work including traffic flow, sidewalk, and some playground improvements. They have done some of that. I'm not sure what the years were. We're looking at um looking at some playground improvements this summer as well for them. It'll be something we need to come back in and reassess, but there have been some traffic flow and sidewalks
082been installed there as well. Mark Twain Elementary. I really don't know what to say here except um the tornado helped. I hate that, but it did, but we did it. Need for a secure main entrance that was addressed in the 2020 bond issue. The vestibial was completed in the 23. Um need for access to the gymnasium during the day without passing through an unsecure lobby. Well, we I didn't mark it off as not as being completed, but I think we will. Um, we do have that secure vestibule there that parents can come into. People have to check in there. Need for uh small groupoup instruction spaces. I think that need is I know that need is still there. They are full. We are adding two classrooms, however, so that will help. Um, the kitchen addition
083and renovation, we are doing that now. Um and the need for a kitchen addition for renovated ice for dry storage and walk-in. All of that will be completed um at by the [snorts] end of this year, early next year. Need to renovate existing restrooms. The older section of facility still needs to happen. A conference room space still needs to happen. In the 2023 bond, we did upgrade the chiller and the and the other things. Um we actually put a new unit on courtesy of the 2023 bond just at spring break. It is up and running as well as the one we put in right before the tornado. So all of that has been addressed there. Trimman, a lot of these things were done with the 2020 bond issue, the renovation or relocation of this existing
084library with the storm shelter in 2023. Uh small group instruction spaces. Some of those movements helped with that. Um I know that they always need more space there. So I marked that we did something but didn't mark it as a green check mark as completed. Need for additional um space in the main office controlled entrance. Um, I did should have put a check. All right, there was a check mark. It's just not by the dot. Did all of that with that 2020 addition and the need for renovation of the existing cafeteria. So, there was a cafeteria facelift done with the ceiling, the lighting, the additional storage with that 2020 bond issue. It is it is night and day difference. So, >> and the office space, it's it's that whole area is so spacious. >> It
085it is >> very nice. And with that, um, we talk about the kitchens and all of that there, but the needed to upgrade the HVAC systems. We've upgraded the chiller in there in 2025, and we put a new one on at spring break as well. Wyman Elementary, um, need for small groupoup instruction spaces, moving ECSE and pups to our new early childhood in August. We'll take care of that issue. So, we'll mark that off. Kitchen addition and renovation. Um, it's tight. It's very tight there. We are looking at getting additional storage for them. Um, Mrs. Heftlin is working with us on that as well as in in a classroom that's right now ECSC will use some of that for storage in the room right next door. So, we are working on that to improve that
086space. Um, >> and the addition Yes, >> that back room >> I would say probably across the >> There's a room that they use as a walkthrough that the teachers were using for some of their stuff. We're going to wall that off. Um, it's right beside the kitchen and goes into the cafeteria. So, it walks through from their work space. So, we're going to wall that back off. We're going to take that back for some storage. >> And then we're going to take another room over there for storage as well. >> Gotcha. >> We're going to work on that as well as some plans to improve the cafeteria or to improve the cafeteria as well. So, we will bring that to you whenever I talk about um the facility improvements next time. If if you
087do that, what would it take out of the existing? I mean, because that cafeteria is just so like the kitchen is just so tight in there. >> I think it's the storage. >> It's really the storage and the ability to put things. They just don't have anywhere to put anything. >> And so, we've talked about that. If we can get some of the things that we store in there and on top of things and things, then they would be able to move. Talked about being able to um renovate some of the serving areas out front. What would that look like? We're talking about what can the electric can the electric hold that? Do we have enough power to run in those areas? Just talking about ways that we can improve that space without a lot.
088>> Gotcha. >> And we have some ideas and some thoughts to help with that. They are just tickled that they're going to get more storage space. >> Oh, I'm sure. >> And it doesn't have to stay in that kitchen. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um again, additional storage space um for for Wyman. Um, again, moving ECSE and pups, we've talked about with you before and we'll talk about it here in a few minutes. With moving them, we're going to have some additional empty spaces. They can look at renovating some of those and putting different things in different spots. So, it will help. [snorts] And then the need to upgrade the HVAC systems. We actually we also put a new unit on there as well at spring break and it's up and running as well. I remember
089Wyman had an issue for a while because I remember Dr. Rake talking about it with the electricity and there was something that would happen and you'd have to go down and there was a little switch you had to >> flip and then it would come back to >> I don't remember exactly what the switch was that you had to flip but >> the master switch. >> It was the switch [laughter] >> the chiller. Yeah, it was something that turned on. It had to Yes. So I think >> yes any questions? That's a review of what we had in 2018. Yes, sir. >> I have a question. So going back to transportation maintenance. Um talk about the underground uh storage fuel tanks and that need to be put above ground. Um is that something we're being
090pushed by EPA, OSHA, any I mean is that and if so is that need where [clears throat] is that on the horizon because I got to imagine that's not going to be inexpensive to remove underground fuel tanks. um is can be pretty um >> um expansive as far as what they have to remove with it and everything. So, just curious on how how soon are we going to be pushed on that? >> Well, >> so our tanks are at the end of their >> life. Y >> um we do have to have them inspected uh annually. >> We do. >> So, they're passing inspection. We've had to do a few things to uh to take care of them. We had to have them cleaned. We had to do some patchwork around the top. We had
091to do some things, but they're still passing inspection, but they are at the end of their life. >> Okay. >> And and probably about five years past that, to be honest. So, >> they're above ground. >> They're underground. >> The current I don't even know if they'd allow us to leave them underground right now or if they're going to hit a point where they say they have to be moved above. >> At at this point, if we put new ones in, they have to be above ground, but they're not telling us we have to take the existing ones out yet. >> So, they're grandfathered in as far as >> grandfathered in at least at this time. >> Yeah. Mhm. >> But do we I mean do we think in the next five years? >> We
092we've talked about lots of plans and there's lots of moving parts there, but yeah, we've got some ideas and it's something we we will have to do sooner than later. >> Is that going to make our space even tighter then? >> Uh we are hopeful to maybe move maintenance out of there. >> Okay. >> And and rearrange some things, but >> Okay, good. The plan was at one point to move transportation out, but we think it might be easier to move maintenance out. >> Okay. >> There has been some talk with that and if it was up to Leo, I'd have it done tomorrow, but we we are talking and we're going to bring Mark and Melissa into that to actually do some to do some studies about where does it go. That'll be part
093of a big part of our next plan. the uh I just want to comment about looking at this and seeing all that we got accomplished off this plan >> and looking at the last >> Yeah, it took a lot of work from everybody but >> it's really a lot of improvements were made >> and this provided good uh guidance support from the community >> a lot of support from the community to pass the bond issue >> SS as new board member and I know Christine is going to be in this too is I wasn't part of any of this when this is all being put into uh place and um as you were going through that it is uh fairly impressive what's been accomplished since uh that was all uh put in in 2018 and
094then that bond issue in 2020. So absolutely you know congratulations to the district and the leadership that we have to get those things done. >> The process was pretty interesting back then too. um you know, we would go meet in one of the buildings a tour and hear all of the things that needed to be improved and then that would come to the board then just as a presentation. So it it wasn't like you know Jim and Greg and I were the only ones who were a part of that. We were all a part of it. So um you know the the plan came together just a little chunk at a time. >> We will be mimicking that process again. >> That's great. I thought it was >> and part of that process you have
095to know is input from everybody. So all of the staff will will take a survey to have input into that and look at >> all of our meetings. We had Honer and Associates there to help us know >> they know a lot of our buildings already and they could give us drawings pretty quickly of oh hey what if we did this to the Mark Twain entrance and then the next meeting we'd have drawings. So >> correct >> cool stuff. >> And we're going to work with um Honer again. Um a lot of our pictures and all the things we have are PDFs and they are very hard to edit. They are very hard to work with. So, they're going to work with us to try to make these easier to maneuver and easier to work
096with and make it, you know, I mean, this is a paper document. We want to and this is it says in there that this is a living document and it is because it's something we refer to all the time, but to make it more visible for people as well. That's one of my goals, make it visible, make it out there, put it on on our plan so we can a have it there all the time. One thing he didn't talk about because it was more maintenance items, but in that document there is a a roof plan for each building. >> All of the roof there is how how old they are. >> It gives the dates of installation of each piece of the roof. It's identified. So, [snorts] and that's been updated as we've uh
097>> done a uh a roof project over the years. >> We had another one last year. >> We did >> more than one. [laughter] >> We did more than one. >> More than one. >> And not and not the one that needed to go. I'm just saying there's still one at Wyman that needs to be replaced. I mean, it hit the good >> part of the crisis management. So, we can figure something out then this year. >> I promise. >> Not Larry. [laughter] >> No more crisis. >> No more tragedies to do that. So, so with that, that is our plan. That is a good review. We will be coming back asking for for some of you to sit on this committee um coming in this fall. As soon as we finish the um fields
098project, Melissa and I from Honer will start working on this with Mark's guidance as well. And we will be going through this entire process kicking off in August when we come back to school. That's that's the plan. I keep asking her, she's like, "Can we just finish one of your projects first, please?" So, I will respect her. I mean, considering she wasn't planning on a tornado and happened to draw a building real quick, you know, I don't know what the problem is. Okay. All right. >> All right. I think I'm up again. Item B, reszoning action. >> I am. >> It's freezing in here. >> It's a crisis. Could you light a fire in here? >> Just kidding. Don't [laughter] get better or that hot and humid. >> Um, if you were in here by
099about 3:30, you would have been like sweating by this point. It was It was that bad. I asked for it to get cold. I didn't think it would get this cold. I'm not also not calling him back in to readjust. Sorry. >> Nope. Okay. So, this presentation will look very similar to what I presented to you a couple months ago, bringing to you again the proposed school attendance boundary change. Um, again, you as you know, we've talked about Wyman currently houses nine early childhood classes. We are moving them in August of 2026 to our new early childhood center making room at Wyman for the expansion of K3 classes. Why do we need to reszone the qu and those reasons are to number one balance enrollment across our facilities because there is a a difference in
100all of our buildings especially with Wyman moving out. They are basically they are a prek building um nine classes over there. So, and then all of our Truman is full and Wyman and Mark Twain is full. Um, the primary um and then we also because of the early childhood center had the opportunity to review our boundaries when we did this and all three of us sat down and looked at and we looked at every area of the district. What could we do? What makes the most sense and how could we do that? We've talked about the enrollment imbalance. Um, with that, Mark Twark Twain will stay pretty stable. Um, Truman is full and but Wyman losing nine classes leaves a lot leaves room for growth. Last March, we reszone the McBride subdivision on 72 from
101Mark Twain to Wyman to prepare for future growth with the 500 homes that will be going in there over the years. Again, that is not going to be a great impact. I think there is one home done at the moment where a family has moved in. Again, not a great impact, but could impact us very greatly as the years go on. Um, Mark Twain and Truman will continue to operate at capacity. Wyman would be closer to 68% capacity, leading to inefficient staffing and facility use. But updating our boundary allows us to optimize our resource allocation, reduce class size imbalances, and create equitable learning environments. The proposed moves will still allow for the growth at Wyman with the addition of the McBride subdivision. And we've talked about enrollment stabilization to um reduce the capacity at each
102elementary building to allow for future growth and resource equity, realigning boundaries so that specialized teachers are utilized similarly and effectively throughout the district. So, our proposal for you tonight um has not changed from when I was there. If you look at this map, and this map is hard to read, everything that is in purple, so you see the red line and the purple area, that's what we want to reszone. that takes in um the area north of Bishop Avenue to the Mary's County line and east to County Road 8010 and 8360 and just east of 8050 north of 8360. So the houses and the properties on 8050 that are north of 8360 will stay in Truman. And I have actually gone through the map piece by piece and parcel by parcel. Where is the line
103currently for Wyman? Is it the lighter purple? >> Right in that area, that lighter blue. I don't know why they put these colors so similar, [laughter] but this area I can see it before. >> And we are talking about expanding it this way. >> Yeah. If you kind of go up the line of the where it says reszone this area to Wyman, the left side of that. Yes. >> For the people that are looking at it. >> Correct. >> Yes. >> North and south there. Yes. Up and down. >> Mhm. [clears throat] where the line current >> and we sent notifications out. >> We So yes, so let me keep going. So we identified 48 students within grades K through two and that is current K through two. So let me clarify that that is
104not incoming kindergarten. Okay. Uh again 15 first graders, 12 second 2 graders and 21 third graders. That and again this does allow for our growth within the McBride subdivision. So of that it will allow us easily then to just change bus routes. Bus routes 30, 39, 40, and 63. Not that that means anything to you, but for our public it will because they all know their bus numbers very well. If they are adopted, all of those properties will receive a letter in the mail. They received a letter in the mail. Not only our families, but I got into the Phelps County GIS and pulled all of the properties. Everyone got a letter in the mail. In your packets, you will have the responses that we received. There were nine. There were some emails that came
105in that were very specific. I've I've called them. I did not answer in that we called. We had some calls of some concerned people. We know that within this there may be requests for people to stay at Truman. Um and Dr. Welch and the principles will look at each of those independently. So, um we have done that. They all had the had the chance. I even I should have brought this to you in March, but I actually extended the deadline for that. So, >> thank you. >> You're welcome. Um, again, all properties were notified by mail that the changes were shared on the district website. Mrs. Zervos sent it out on Parent Square. Um, they started February 20th. They had a month to even longer because I didn't shut the comment period off. Um, the
106pro proposed changes presented tonight along with the comments. they are not public due to parent names and things being on there, but you have them. And then the other part of the process is whether you vote to adopt the proposed changes or not. Um, public comment again started there. There were nine comments. Those who left email addresses or phone numbers were contacted. Questions [clears throat] about this before we move to the next part. Okay. Tonight, I need from you, if you approve, the recommendation to amend the Wyman school attendance zone to include all of the area north of Bishop Avenue to the Mary's County line and east to the county road 10 8360 and just east of the 8050 a east of 8050 north of 8360. I will have to go meet with the assessor's
107office to make sure this is done right, but I will. >> Okay. Is there a motion? I'll make a motion uh recommendation to amend the Wyman school attendance zones to include all of the areas to the north of Bishop Avenue to the Mary's County line east to County Road 8010 8360 and just east of 8050 north of 8360. >> And I second that. >> Okay. Other discussion? All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. That motion carried. >> Thank you. >> And we move on. Thank you. >> Thanks. >> You can sit down now. I think [laughter] No, you can't. Oh, >> new business. >> I not I don't need those papers for that. How's that? >> Okay. >> Oh, yeah. [laughter] Yeah. It's kind of my show tonight, unfortunately. Oh, yeah. I
108I'm going to come and ask for things. >> Mrs. Atkinson will gladly trade with you at this point. That's >> right. I don't want to trade with her at this point. I'm just going to be honest. I really don't. I I don't want to trade with her. Okay. So, no, she's the specialist. She's the expert. We're good. So tonight I come to you with requesting for additional positions for the 2627 school year. Um due to enrollment needs that have happened within the last few weeks more like nine nine students enrolled with some severe needs as well as I think 20 other students at another school. We are in need of two special education teachers, one at Wyman and one at the middle school. And those are both due to special education enrollments and IEP needs
109>> and you had said we had enough paras, special ed paras that can help with that or is that >> we do at this time. If we find that it enrollment goes up, we may come back with paras, but right now they believe they can make it work with what they have. >> We ask those questions. We have enough >> positions. My open positions, >> right? >> We have a lot of open positions. There may not be filled right now, but we right now they believe they can fill it with what they have. If they don't, we will come back to you. I promise. >> Okay. >> Are are these new positions uh positions that have been here previously and we cut them or these are just addition because of the numbers? >> These are
110addition because of the numbers. I will be honest, we all sat there in the meetings whenever we went through it. They come in and there are there are names there. I mean they they are here and they are in classes and it's just there's just the need is there. >> Okay. >> Again budget impact. You have seen this screen a lot. It has not changed. Again 2526 salary schedule. That is the same numbers we've been using for all of our requests this year. >> [snorts] >> I need would like a recommendation for a special education teacher at Wyman and a special education teacher at middle school. >> I will make a motion um for a special education teacher at Wyman and a special education teacher at RA Middle School. And I'll second. >> Okay, other
111discussion hearing none. All those in favor say I. >> I opposed. >> That motion carried. >> Thank you. >> Okay, now you can sit down. All [laughter] right. Item B is the fiscal year 27 budget and legislative update. Dr. Darren do and Mrs. Atkinson will provide a comprehensive update on the budget including an analysis of regent recent legislative developments and their projected impacts. We'll start there. >> Okay. Going to start with revenue considerations for next year. So right now the SAT is flat at 7,145 per weighted ADA for the next few years. So we know that to be true. It's been that way for the last two years, four years. I've lost track. However, in the state budget right now, they're proposing only paying at 6,740 due to higher waiting thresholds. Um, in addition to
112that lower SAT, I'm anticipating about $330,000 less than the current year actual. N Sue and Charlotte in last night's presentation uh with R31 Academy, you heard me say vastly different amount. That's because in last night's presentation, the number that I used was based on the calculation for this year versus the calculation for964, >> but I budgeted a little less. So anyway, um it won't be as vast of a difference based on current year actual, but we think we're going to get next year. >> Also, transportation, um we've already been told will be paid at the rate it was a couple of years ago, which is about 300,000 less than current year. So total revenue loss from the state anticipating about $630,000. I got a bunch of question marks there because we simply don't know enough
113to really know. based on what I know today, that's how I will build the budget. I'll finalize inputting all that data first part of May. Um both Dr. Darren and I based on what we've heard are questioning whether or not we'll actually even receive the 6740. Um as you all know, if the money is allocated and budgeted at the state, that's one thing. They have to receive those funds for us to receive our funds. So if they don't receive them and if tax cuts continue being triggered so on and so forth um that could be a higher number. So right now that's what we're rolling with. >> Does this include or exclude the impact of our additional students at ECC? >> Good question. So it does include that. There is some question as to whether
114or not we're going to be able to receive that for next year. I'm working with Desi. The only reason we would be able to receive that next year is if we're able to um estimate our ADA. And they've told me I that I can't do that for next year based on our ADA. It actually even with those numbers isn't growing enough to estimate which means we won't receive that next year. Right now that number >> it's not in the it's not in the number >> 300,000 less. >> Right. >> But that didn't include the >> correct >> and we would get that a year later than >> a year later. Okay. >> Yeah. So, it does include our um calendar incentive payment. Next year is about $188,000. So, that does include that calculated in there
115because it's kind of part it's all the same. >> Okay. >> Revenue code in any case. >> Okay. Other uh revenue considerations for next year, local revenue. It is a non-reassessment year. Um I am anticipating a lower tax rate because um Propscy revenue this year increased slightly over last year. I would anticipate that our assessed valuation will increase slightly due to new construction. Those things combined will result in a higher Propsy roll back amount further reducing our tax levy. So, but with increased assessed valuation, which I don't know yet, of course, I'm plann to budget no change to local revenue at this time and then correcting that once we do know. So, revenues review just high level here um fiscal year 26 projection versus fiscal year 27 budget about two and a half million less
116in revenue. The majority of that is due to the fact that hopefully we will still receive the 1.9 million um PCCF donation in this fiscal year. If not, I'll have to carry it over to a third fiscal year. So, [laughter] keep rolling it. So, hopefully I'm fingers crossed we're going to get it by June 30. Um but that's the the main reason why um less revenue for next year. Now, I'm going to pause there and pass it over to Dr. there to update you on all the fun legislative stuff. >> Well, Kinder probably summed it up. We should have just put a big slide in here with a big giant question mark because there's so many unknowns. Um, and I was sharing with her earlier. I had built some stuff out and was planning on
117sharing some stuff and then the Senate met last night and changed some things and then uh in appropriations committee today they changed some things and quite honestly um it's a lot and it's hard to see what happened because they took some things out, they added some things in, they adjusted some things, they shifted some things, they took some money out of career ladder, they put some money back in. So, um we don't know yet is is really the gist of that. the the the state side. Um obviously that income tax piece is concerning uh because that is the lion share of the state revenue and so it going away uh raises questions. Obviously, the conversation is around it being replaced with something, but at this moment, there's not been anything identified to replace. And so,
118uh, that was passed out of the Senate last night about 12:15 a.m. And so, um, at this moment, they basically stripped everything out of it and, uh, left it to future legislatures to figure out if it passes the will of the voters. So, um, that's scary because we just have no idea what that means. Um the state budget outlook >> [clears throat] >> um I'm old and I've been through this before uh where the state has overcommitted and underperformed. Um it's likely that next year is not the worst um year that we will see out of this. It will take a three to five year cycle for things to start um to to bottom out and start to correct. So it's a little concerning because uh there's a there's a couple things happening. As Kendra
119mentioned, money has to be allocated. And so, uh, one example that that has been shared with us for this year even are what we call the send taxes. Um, we often joke with our staff, uh, it's the lottery, the casino money, the cigarette tax, uh, some of those things that we get a direct payment off of. Uh, we encourage our people to go do all those things. Um but uh the state the state budgeted a certain amount of money but they're underperforming by um substantial amount about three-fifths. And so the the budget says we're supposed to get that money but then there's no money to give us so we're going to be shorted. And then the opposite is happening on the Prop C side. Uh there's about 190 million in sales tax sitting there but
120it wasn't allocated. So, even though the money came in above what they thought, they can't give it to us because they didn't budget it. And so, uh, it happens. It goes both ways. Um, those two things together would plug about half of the hole that we've dug ourselves into here, but, um, they certainly won't fix things. So, something we will keep a very close eye on. Uh and as Kinder mentioned, the the the true reality is is compared to what we should be getting next year, uh about 1.1 million short of what we should be getting. Um and then that's the state side. The secondary part of that is all the discussions around the local taxes. And there's a myriad of bills that have been filed, a myriad of approaches, all dealing with real estate,
121personal property, sales taxes, and uh like all of it in some form or fashion, either with caps, restrictions, reductions, uh limitations, you name it. Any one of those would have an impact on us as a public government entity. We rely on taxes. It's the reality. So any one change would have an impact. Um the fear is that there will be multiple things pushed together and layered and um a real chance for um impact there. The one the one good thing that's a weird way to say that um it's unlikely that any of the local tax changes would impact us for next fall because quite honestly they're not going to be able to pivot in time for the assessor and collectors and all those folks to to make those adjustments. So those would likely be pushed
122off for implementation in future years. Um, our hope, uh, and I think Kinder is going to talk about this a little bit too, but our hope is that we have been conservative in the past. We've built good revenues and and and reserves. Um, our hope is that we have built enough of a conservative budget that we can weather the storm and make calm, reasonable, rational decisions rather than have to overreact to immediate um, pressures. So, that's the approach we're taking is to uh just keep our close eye on things and make sure we're keeping the best data we can, but it is literally changing every 15 minutes. It seems like we're getting new information. So, right now it's very volatile. We'll know more once the legislative session ends and the governor signs the budget. Uh
123we'll at least have some factual information to further true up the budget at that point, but that's likely May. Well, it'll be May at the earliest um likely June before we >> budget due on May 1st or the 8th. >> Uh the budget would be due I believe the 8th. Okay. >> And then the governor of course can line item and stuff after that. So typically the governor has 30 days I believe after the session to sign that if I'm remembering right. So it's usually sometime in June before we know for sure. >> Any questions for Dr. Dar with legislative update? >> It's very happy positive stuff. That's great. >> Okay. >> Very. [clears throat] >> All right. So, moving on to expenditure side of the house. So, just a quick health insurance um review
124and update. So, March 31st, our self-insured fund balance is at 4.7 million. It was at 4.7 million in October. That was with keeping our um premiums flat. We didn't change them in any way this year. So, we're not to the end of the year. The end of the plan year is September 30th. But I am not anticipating making any um adjustments to the insurance premiums or the plans themselves for fiscal year 27. Um that being said, I have been working of course with Mrs. Grieven from BPJ and we are anticipating a fairly large increase to our stop loss fees. But I do think that our fund balance is capable of absorbing that without it being too damaging. And so we can weather that for a year and see what those really will be because we
125won't know those for a while yet. So um for the budget, that's my uh anticipation for right now. Then looking at uh salary proposals. So for certificated staff movement plus a 2% increase is what we're going to ask you for this evening. That it amounts to about a 3% overall pay increase for certified staff. That total cost is $818,000. That would bring step uh one, so bachelor's plus one, so first year teacher from $41,76 to 42,540. Looking at our salary um schedule survey in comparison of those roughly 25 surrounding districts, that would put us at number 14 on that list. And of course, this is assuming they don't make any changes, right? Um, step nine, bachelor's plus, sorry, bachelor's was step nine, number five. Bachelor's uh plus 16 um credit hours at step 14, we're
126at number one. Master step 10, number seven. So, and then for support staff, again, uh proposing movement plus a 2% increase. That also is a roughly 3% increase for support staff. That comes at a cost of $430,000. It increases the lowest of our pay scales from 1587 an hour to 1603. To put that in an annual rate for you, a 12 month support staff, that's a $332 pay increase. For our 9-month staff, it is $222. Couple of change or one change to a salary schedule. It's actually an additional salary schedule that we're proposing tonight. It's in your packet. I've added a director of nursing schedule. We've looked at that director position over the last few years. And that person is definitely qualifies to be an exemp exempt position. So, exempt from overtime rules under the
127Fair Labor Standards Act. Um, also qualifies to be exempt based on current salary. Um, we're propose adding 10 days to their contract, if you will. Again, support staff don't have contracts, but to have that person work 215 days. That's primarily due to additional training requirements of all of our staff. So, uh, nurse Wanica is now in charge of CPR, AED, and stop the bleed training for all the staff. And I believe we have to do that annually. Is that correct? >> We do. Required by that's a a fairly big um >> responsibility that she's taken on. and we're grateful for that. So, we are proposing to add a salary um support uh salary schedule for her that is a director schedule similar to assistant uh sorry transportation director um food service director and so on.
128So, with adjusting that as well, sorry, I should say this, it's based on the BSN schedule. It's a factor of that and so it's at a cost of about $9,900. And then additional extra duty uh positions for next year. Uh two changes to the schedule. We're going to move the color guard sponsor from category four to three. So moving them up. Moving the junior high head cross country coach from category five to four. And then we're going to add four extra duty positions. Two video board producers, one junior high assistant wrestling coach, and one junior high assistant cross country coach. That all combined comes with a cost of about 13,600. All of those from what I understand, if I remember correctly, say if I'm wrong, are due to the numbers of students that we have
129um in those activities. So all together with all the salary uh schedule proposals, the uh new schedule, and the additional extra duty positions, just under $1.3 million for next year. So expenditures review anticipating about 2.9 million more in expenditures that is based on movement plus 2% base increase 1.1 million in additional staff 3% increase in supplies and a 5% increase in purchase services. So all of that I want to be very clear is not set in stone yet. I have not entered anything into our financial system to run those full reports. Okay, this is just based on assumptions and and Excel and um trend data. So that's where we stand with our expenditures for for next year. At this point, we're looking at a projected um ending fund balance for this year of 31.82%. It's
130a $ 1.6 million deficit. That deficit is after transferring 2 million to the capital projects fund. Okay. And again, we still have a bit more time to go with spending money, but also having some revenues. And we'll see where we actually are in another month. I'll do another analysis. I'll come back to you. I think the second May board meeting is my plan for a current year budget update to approve an update for this year. And I'll have more um accurate numbers by then. And then with all of these changes that we just discussed, next year ending fund balance of 25.8% 8% that does not include any transfer to the capital projects fund for next year. Think that we do have plenty in there for right now. Um and again as Dr. Dar talked about,
131we talked about last night at the R31 Academy. We have been budgeting for years very conservatively. So as we enter into what we think are going to be fairly lean times, I think that we can weather this storm. I think we can still take care of our staff and do the right thing by them and make sure we have high quality staff, not just our teaching staff, but our support staff. So, I would like for us to continue to tighten the strings a little bit, look a little closer at what we are spending where we can reallocate some things that uh we have in the budget that we're maybe not spending. And so, I'm doing some more analysis of that as well. So certainly with those fund balances, we're able to for next year, I
132think comfortably propose this to you this evening for these salary schedules and it will allow us if we need to to make more thoughtful changes as we move forward. >> So are there any questions? >> I'll give others a chance first. So my only question has to do with this early childhood center and the delay in getting our funds for the first year operation. So that's included the impact of that is included in the $3.1 million deficit. >> Yes. part of that money we're going to get back >> because of early childhood special ed >> because of early childhood >> and if you're not able to change the uh water due to those students attending next year. So [clears throat] that impact's not in there. So that we would get that the following year. >>
133Correct. >> Yes. We will eventually get all of that. Yes. Right. And we were talking >> $700,000 or >> Oh gosh, Jim, >> I think that's true. Is I think that's what we had in our worksheets before. I apologize. I did I didn't think to write that down. >> Here he goes. He's got it. >> He's got certain. >> Give him a minute. >> Save the day here. >> Well, because it's changed. >> Yeah, you can look at it if you want to. [laughter] Okay, that's the second year number. So, uh, yeah. Anyway, that's not included. That's the important part. >> Correct. >> This is not continual. Year two is going to be different than year one if we didn't do anything different. >> We reduce that deficit. >> Yeah, that's good. Good point. >>
134Any other questions? If not, >> is there a motion to adopt the salary schedules as presented? >> I make a motion to adopt the salary schedules as presented. >> I'll second that. >> Okay, other discussion. All those in favor say I. >> I. I. >> Any opposed? Okay, that motion carried. >> Okay, thank you very much. >> Thank you very much for all your efforts. >> Now I made a mistake. pulled all those papers out. >> I put all those papers on top of my other one what I >> don't lose your job. >> All right. [laughter] >> Next on the list, item C, board meeting dates for 2627. We need to set that list and uh >> that list was attached. >> The only thing I would say I would call your attention to
135November um >> 19th. I'm trying to get mine to pull up here. We shifted that to a I'm sorry, December, we shifted that to a Tuesday. >> Uh the meeting in November is a little uh later than normal. Uh we tried to shift those to accommodate for um >> bills. >> Yeah. All kinds of things happening and and the the things we typically run into conflict with. Um August is a little off as well. Um if you look at that date uh it will be the night before our commocation. So uh but we couldn't move that one. We'd looked at moving that just to give us a little more flexibility, but uh with the tax hearing and the and the time requirements for that uh we couldn't go earlier and to go later would throw
136us off for several months. So we tried to go through this very carefully and look at MSBA convention all the things and try to make the best judgments. Obviously, we can adjust as the year goes on if we need to. >> The spring March dates um is that spring break, the March 25th, which is not okay. >> No. And I adjusted those because like this year we had to move that March to a Tuesday because of the what NASA >> conference, I think. And so, no, I looked up [snorts] as many conferences as I could that they were going to and tried to work around that, but I also looked up spring break and all that. >> Great. Okay. What about um homecoming and all of that? >> Um yeah, I'll take >> as long
137[snorts] as that doesn't get moved and Okay. >> Yeah, we try to take all in consideration. >> Okay. >> Um >> back at what we had to move for last year. [clears throat] Okay. >> Try to avoid moving for all those things again. >> Good. >> Um the other thing I would say about November, December, that's typically when we have the principles come and present to you. So if you looked at your early list, we had moved those we had adjusted those times. we're going to bring a presentation to you and talk about adjusting that in a different way and so we may not need to adjust those times. So I would suggest just leaving the normal times at this point and we'll adjust if we need to as we go through. >> All right.
138I don't know any comments. I know that the only meeting that I will not be here for is the January 7th meeting. So, you're on the hook for that, >> Charla. >> Is that on your calendar? >> And then June 30th, you're going to have to do without record again. >> I know. Two years in a row. >> Two years in a row. I'm sorry. All right. Is there a motion to adopt the meeting dates as presented? >> I'll make that motion. >> Okay. Second. >> Second. >> Okay. Any other discussion? Anybody other want to Okay. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. >> Okay. Okay, that motion carried and those are our dates at this point. >> We're going to set a special meeting date next to a date. >> So,
139this is somewhat of a selfish request, but um I'm going to be out of the country for my daughter's wedding uh for the next meeting, which I'm sure you will handle fine without me. However, there are a few more salary pieces that we need to wrap up prior to issuing contracts. So, I would like to ask if you're available and willing to do a special meeting next Tuesday at 5:30 uh close session only to review those salaries and uh so we can get that wrapped up and get contracts out uh by our statutory dates. [snorts] So, that's the community conversation night. Um that presentation starts at 6:30. So, if you want to attend that, we should be done in plenty of time for that uh if you're available. >> So, meet in the boardroom. Uh,
140I would >> we'll probably find something at the high school. >> All right. Okay. Great. >> We'll get you information on that. >> Okay. >> Do I hear a motion on that? Setting that. >> I'll make a motion we set the special time. >> I'll second that. >> Okay. Thank you, Carla. >> No discussion. I don't think so. All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Opposed. All right. [snorts] We brings us to comments and uh Ashton, you're up. >> I'm excited to talk. Okay. [laughter] First of all, I'd like to say um how much appreciation appreciation I'd show to the board for honoring the fellow students to um of all grade levels and of all the public schools for their achievements and commitments they put into the education and their own personal p
141passion. you really make students voices and achievements feel heard and I want you to know that their continuous effort is appreciated. >> Thank you. >> Then I'd like to talk about um and past events of the FBA state competition that that we all went to last um this this last Sunday to Tuesday. I was part of one of the fellow people who went on it and uh of uh I believe we had over like 14 members go two of them made it made it to nationals and wow in San Antonio, Texas. That includes Jake Green and uh Aelin and so I'm very excited for them. It'll be a great time. I hope they place highly and um represent Rally well. Then I'd like to talk about um the honor honor society ceremony that that happened
142last week. Um, I'd like to congratulate Mr. Luna on his uh achievement for being the most influential teacher. And then I'd just like to say that we that me as a junior, we have big shoes to fill fill for the next the senior graduating senior class. And I have confidence that we'll be able to make fill in for them and ex and exceed. >> So congratulations to you for your congratulations. And then to talk about the future, there's a there's the upcoming spring drive-in for movie movie drive-in that will be playing Zootopia. That that's an event hosted by I believe leadership coming up soon. Then we have APs and finals come up and coming uh in May like start of May. That's a big uh mind on a lot of um junior uh for high
143schoolers. And then prom that's that's that's a big one coming up May 2nd. Everyone's excited for that. >> And then I'd like to end this by saying that I this this time of year is is really um hard and strainous with all the such um reoccurring events and testing and not just for students but also for teachers and and especially officials in Raleigh public schools. And I'd like to thank you all for your resilience and um your your dedication to helping us students. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Dr. Der, >> just a few quick things. We had our last full session last night with the Citizens Academy. Um, and Miss Atkins Atkinson and I presented on the budget process. Uh, we were a little worried that we were just going to have everybody in tears,
144but uh, they were great. They asked a lot of great questions and and engaged with us. And so, um, I'd like to say how much I appreciate that group of people uh, and their participation this year. They've been really engaged, ask really great questions. they provide good feedback uh as we work to make improvements for the future. Uh we have one more meeting with that group, but we'll recap the year and and do a little celebration with them as our inaugural group. Um and then I would also mention Gina and I presented about that pro uh program at the Massa Mosper conference a few weeks ago. We had a full room uh and lots of great feedback from that. So um everybody's looking for ways to engage and and that one's uh gone really well.
145So, >> have we thought about presenting that at the MSBA [clears throat] summer summit? >> We have not, but we surely think about it. >> It would have to be fall, I think. >> Is it fall? >> Well, or which one? >> I think summer summit >> summer is probably too late now. >> Yeah, >> but definitely that would be a good one for fall. >> Yeah. Okay. Um, if you have not seen the social media post from yesterday, we're very excited to announce the reformation and reorganization of the Ozark Conference uh beginning with the 2728th school year. Uh, I do want to acknowledge Dr. Ray's here, but uh, Josh Smith at the high school and cabbie. Uh, we've all been working diligently for several months and years to find some path for us. Uh,
146so as excited as I am about the conference reforming, I'm excited to be done talking about it, um, quite honestly. So, uh, we do need the year delay just to make sure we can fulfill some contracts, work with the other schools that are going to be involved. uh and not trying to be cryptic there, but uh some of the schools are still in the process of formalizing some things and we don't want to get ahead of their announcements. So, we'll have more details coming out in the next few months. Uh being a part of the conference again though does mean some better competitive balance for our programs, a little less travel. Uh we're renewing some u long-standing rivalries and uh I think it's going to be a great thing for our kids. So, super excited
147about that. Uh and again, we'll have more information coming out. very pleased with the direction we're going and um we have another conference call scheduled on Tuesday and I believe at that point we'll be able to make some uh more announcements. So uh Dr. Falton, Gina and I are presenting at the MSBA Center for Education Safety inaugural Missouri School Safety Conference next week. Um it's a mouthful, isn't it? >> Uh but we're sharing our experiences for the T tornado event and recovery and helping others in planning. Uh we also presented that at the Masser conference. We didn't have a full house, but we were in a much bigger room. Uh, but we did have a good group. Um, good conversation, good connections, and um, appreciate their help in that process, too. And then, as Ashton
148mentioned, we're entering the testing world. So, uh, everybody's testing, MAP test, EOCC tests, AP tests, uh, you name it. ELLL tests, gift, I don't know what all. We're just testing everybody. All the things, >> all the letters. Yes. All the acronyms you can imagine. >> Acronyms. And so, uh, I do I do want to echo Ashton's, uh, piece and and and thank our staff for their flexibility and and accommodations [snorts] and making all those things happen, the schedule changes that have to occur and, uh, it's a lot and, um, but it's it's necessary and and appreciate everybody's cooperation in that. So, that's all I have for >> What is the that last date for the community? >> Uh, is it the >> 20th or 13th somewhere in there? >> Yeah. No, >> no. The citizens
149academy. >> It's May 13th, isn't it? >> May 13th. Yeah. >> Okay. >> And here. Okay. >> Thank you. >> Did I say something? >> Yes. >> Okay. Just want to throw it out there. The core uh golf term is August 3rd. So, you golfers get ready. Um and then September 19th is the casino night for the Marina Grace 4A. It's a little bit different this year. Should be a lot of fun. So, get that on your calendars. Okay. >> Um, I also want to bring something up. So, uh, the last time that we had the legislators here, we talked about having another meeting with them, uh, in May. Um, I think they said Friday would probably be a better, uh, time for them. Are you guys interested in wanting to do that? If so,
150I will work to get something set up. >> Yeah, sounds good for you. >> I thought it went really well last time. >> Yes. >> Maybe Ashton can even join us for it. Would be great. >> That'd be perfect. >> Great. Yeah. Is there um a better location or different location that you would like um to try this time instead of RTI? Um any ideas? Think about that. >> Is there somewhere we'd want to showcase or? >> Yeah. Something that keep that in mind. >> Okay. >> But in the meantime, I'll go ahead and email them and see when they >> Do we know which Friday or we just >> I'm just going to ask for whatever availability they have and go from there if that works okay with you. Unless you have a particular
151>> no >> day that you'd like me to >> stay away from or >> I think I'm good in May. >> All right. You're >> What about you, Jim? Are you good in May? >> I'm good in May. >> Okay. Anybody else? >> I'm not here the 1st or the 8th and the 22nd is our closing ceremony. >> You're not here the 28th. Okay. 22nd. Okay. >> So, maybe the 15th. >> 15th. Okay. >> That'll be their last day of session. >> Yeah. >> Oh, they probably can't do that. Do you have >> to be done at five? Yeah, they'll be probably be up there on that. >> Yeah, they'll probably be up there. >> Um or I could shoot for like the first part of June. I don't you just tell me what you
152guys think. >> Yeah. Okay. I did get uh you finished. >> I am. >> I did get a email with the dates for take a stand. So, put on your calendars July 10th and 11th. >> Yep. >> For our stands. I have to do anything contact for that. >> Uh I can just drop a message to PCB and ask for our same spot. >> Okay. >> At the Walmart or No. >> Uhhuh. >> Yeah. >> It's a high volume spot. >> Yeah. >> All right. And then we had requests for signups for the summer summit. So, uh, >> I don't know. >> Got everybody's stuff in, so I'm going to start booking. >> Great. >> Okay, >> that's good. >> Are we all Lake of the Ozarks? >> Lake of the Ozarks. >> All seven
153of you plus myself and Dr. >> Great. Beta. >> Yeah, that's beta connection early this year. >> Are you going to try to get us in the main building? That's what I've been told. >> Okay, if you don't mind her only disadvantage advantage we have is the uh attendance will be less than the annual meeting. >> That is true. Right. >> So somewhere close. All right. Are there any other uh comments? If not, I'll uh uh note the written reports on attendance. the substitute list, the financial report, excuse me, cafeteria report. I'll need a motion then to go into uh return to close session. >> I'll make that motion. >> I'll second. >> Okay. How do you vote? >> Yes. Yes.
