Um, I'm here with Jonathan Cohen, Jonathan Dunlap, Suzanne Carmichael, Andrea Folsam, Ambula Loma, Superintendent Amy Doyle, our BA Laura Taylor, our board secretary Jodie Condan, our student reps, Lucy Beardmore, and future Air Force Air Forceman Kip Hedquist, and our technology director Matt Stone. Could we could you lead us in the pledge of allegiance? >> Yeah. I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Okay guys, we have uh some sets of minutes to approve here, guys. We have the regular schoolboard meeting minutes for May uh 19th and we also have non-public meeting minutes for May 19th and June 2nd. Do I have a motion to approve all three sets of minutes? >>

So moved. >> Second. >> All right. Um >> May I'm sorry. June 1st. >> June 1st. Thank you. June 1st. My bad. >> Um do I have Okay. So we're going to keep it. Um any discussion? >> All right. All those in favor? I. All those opposed. Um, if we are at the first public comment portion of the evening, if you'd like to come up and speak, um, we ask that you state your name, address, and try to keep your comments to three minutes. >> Okay. Um, student reps, let's do it. Let's go, guys. >> You want to kick us off? >> Sure. Yeah. So, um, you know, getting to the end of the year, but still, I don't know, couple weeks to go. Um, senior finals I think are mostly >> Yeah, I got

>> two more, I think. >> Couple more senior finals and then finals for everyone else start next week. Um, so we're getting there. Um, but yeah, going back a while to May. Um, celebration of the arts was a few days after our last meeting. Um, it was pretty successful from what I can tell. Um, of course we had the art exhibit in the library and then the performances outside um, from all different age groups. And then there was also a faculty performance which might have been a first but that's always pretty popular. Um, our teachers are very talented as we know from Battle of the Bands. Um, so I think people were happy to see them performing and then yeah, it's just a great annual event um, that I think a lot of people really

enjoy. um security redesign video. Kip and I did a voice over um to uh slideshow that Mr. Kelly had put together um just covering like the main points of the redesign. Uh we sent it over to News Club for them to edit and trim down however they need it to broadcast and it was supposed to broadcast yesterday. Uh but I think it's going to broadcast tomorrow which is exciting tomorrow morning. Um, so we thought that would be good to do to make sure um, student body is informed on what's going on over the summer so that it's not a huge shock for anyone who doesn't know uh, when they come back in the fall. Um, last week we had the yearbook distribution assembly. Um, at our school yearbook is a class. I know in other

districts it's a club. Uh, we have a full year class. They always do a great job. Uh, I did not get a yearbook, but I've looked through it. Um, and it looks great. Um, >> why did you why did you get a yearbook? >> I was just waiting till senior year. I don't know. >> I only got a yearbook this year. So, >> really? Okay. All right. Sorry. Continue. >> Um, but yeah, this year's was um dedicated to Miss Bachman, the adviser for the your, you know, she teaches the yearbook class. Um, at the assembly, they also give speeches for teachers who are moving on. So, um, Miss Walker retiring, um, Miss Rosson moving on, and then they also gave a speech for, um, the bus drivers who it was also kind of partially dedicated

to. Um, so that's always just a great end of year event. Um, and then, yeah, Kip's going to talk about that a little more as well. Um, and then, yeah, class elections are next week. Um it seems like they're kind of being thrown together a little bit because we got the information about that this week. Um but yeah, that will be happening next week. Um I Kip and I are working on um a letter uh possibly to the conquered monitor, possibly to um politicians about our >> especially >> governor. Yeah. Uh state polit politicians about uh our perspective. um student perspective about the phone ban um working with a couple student reps from BO um who organized it um which has been pretty interesting um so we're hoping to finish that soon um but yeah

this is my last meeting of the year cuz I'll be hopefully in Vienna um for our next meeting so on the German exchange so obviously I don't know how the elections will go but I'm hoping to be back here next year but I've really enjoyed the opportunity this year thank you all I've learned a lot. It's been very enjoyable. So, hope to be back. >> We have >> We hope so, too. >> Okay. >> Yeah. It's pretty incredible how many foreign exchanges our school can put together. German, French, Spanish, South Africa, Costa Rica, and all sorts of other ones for a school of what 350 students in the high school. So, um quite spectacular. Um there's yeah, definitely a lot happening right now. I thought this week would be a very um chill and laid-back

week for me. Um cuz I looked at my schedule, I was like, "Oh, I only have two finals a day." But somehow I still been pretty jam-packed with everything. Um for starters, sports have really been quite spectacular. Uh to no shock to anyone, this spring, our girls track and field team just won yet another um state championship. Uh, Miss Missouri, if you know, is that three in a row for them? Three in a row. Is that three in a row? Yeah. >> I mean, we have some truly spectacular athletes on that team. You all heard plenty about Matty Lane winning three different disciplines at the state meet. Um, but then again, all of them, you have freshman who are competing and um helping lift team to yet another championship. Um on the boys side too,

they finished in a respectable sixth with some um really key performances from some of those like um Christopher Collie managed to secure um the win in high jump and then uh Hunter Era and Kristoff both finished top five in Javelin. Um but yeah, a lot of talent on both those teams. Um, additionally, our lacrosse teams both managed to finish um in a position with a buy. The girls um who finished second on the season, but really should have been first cuz they just played one less game than the team that uh got first and they happened to beat them by five goals. They have their first um quarterfinal game on Thursday. Um and then the boys team is also hosting a home quarterfinal game um finishing fourth on the season on Saturday. >> Um a

little bit obnoxious that is that the boys uh quarterfinal game is going to conflict with the girls semi-final game, but um hopefully I win that and then everyone can go to the championship game anyway. Uh and then in terms of um softball and baseball, both have had um solid years. We actually have seniors this year on our softball team. Um, which was not the case last year. Um, and they've had a solid season. And the boys baseball team um had a 500 um record and made playoffs for the first time in um I don't know, a lot of years. So, I know it's the first time that my class has made playoffs for baseball, which they're quite excited about. They'll play on Wednesday at Dairfield 4 PM um in the prelims which should be fun.

Um but yeah, sports again, Hopinson always has pretty spectacular sporting seasons, pretty motivated student body, so that helps. Um then since uh Lucy and I's school board, I would say oblig I wouldn't say obligation because it doesn't feel much like that. Um it's it's quite fun, but we still have some stuff to do. So, we are going to go visit um Harold Martin School and hopefully Maple Street 2 um within the next couple weeks before she takes off. Probably will be after I graduate, but hope that's still allowed. So, um h the main focus of those are going to be um some work on like maintenance appreciation. >> Uh especially after like uh Mr. Ziki came and spoke to us. um quite like impressed with how much our maintenance staff does and um just wanted

to make sure that we showed our appreciation and um recognition of their help. So over at the high school, we already um the help of uh class secretary for senior class, Julie Martell, she made a really nice banner um a thank you to the maintenance staff banner um that we got after the yearbook um assembly. We got probably over a hundred kids to sign. Um got up at the end of the yearbook assembly and said a few words about them just to really help drive home the um the work that our maintenance staff does, including how much they're going to be doing over the summer and how people don't necessarily recognize how late they stay and then how their work doesn't really end and the breadth of their projects. So, >> with the younger schools,

we're going to go hopefully do similar activities and uh just get that mindset and um recognition, understanding going. Also, just help kind of foster some awareness um in our student body. But overall, I think we do quite a good job at Hopkins just making sure that people are aware of their surroundings and conscious of what makes a difference. So, um, and then lastly, graduation coming up. Uh, it's interesting time. We had our first graduation practice today. Um, I'm Yeah, it's it's exciting. We've set everything up pretty much in the barn and I think um tomorrow is when we're receiving our cap gown tassels, but I've been told not to put my tassel on until before on Friday because >> uh apparently they are not attached and you people are prone to losing them. They're not

extras. >> True story. >> So, we're not going to do that. I know a lot of students, including myself, have decorated like a piece of paper to put on top of their hat things, caps. um did an all right job. Won't, you know, won't get any um art awards, but it got the job done. Couple stickers and some some little drawings, but it's exciting. Um this year I'm sure as you're mostly all aware we have a unique um phenomena where we have co- validatorans two girls in two really incredible um girls who managed to secure the exact same grade point average throughout high school helps their best friends too which I thought was pretty funny. So but we're going to get to hear from both of those and our class president. I'm sure all the

speeches will be spectacular. We have yeah quite quite a good plan for graduation. I see a couple people here who will be speaking and I'm very excited to hear those. But it should be a lot of fun. Um yesterday we had our senior parade. Uh again always struck by how much community um we have in this town in such a small town. Being able to set things up like that with help of the fire department and police department and just seeing how many people show out for that. So it's really incredible to see. definitely again shows that awareness um and community in this town. Um then the school board, thank you all very much yesterday for putting on the um the barbecue thing and getting to open up our time capsules. Uh safe to say

I wasn't the most impressed with uh who what I thought was the funniest in eighth grade and what I put into my time capsule. I looked at that and cringed a fair bit, but it was it was still a good time. My parents put a nice note in there, which that was quite touching. Other than that, I looked at it and I was just like, "Oh, man." Um, >> you get any cash? >> No, no cash. I didn't put anything important and find. But, um, I had a few friends who put some money in them. One of them put uh lacrosse stick head in his, which he usually at practice um and it was no good. I had another friend who put Snickers in his, and yeah, Snickers go bad after four years. So, uh,

but again, there's just so many instances of these fun tidbits and activities that we get to do at Hopington. >> I know I've said community a lot. I'm not trying to repeat myself so much, but especially in these last couple weeks, this the sense of that has really become apparent to me and it's really I feel impactful and meaningful and I feel like we do a great job at um showing our appreciation, support of each and every one of our seniors. So, we really appreciate it. Hopefully we can keep that up and look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at graduation. But yeah, thank you. Any questions, you guys? I know I said a lot today. >> You have any questions for Luzi? >> I want to know more was not funny

in the box. >> Oh man. Well, mostly it was like I wrote a letter to myself and I didn't exactly know what to say in it and I mostly just used like slang that I'd used in 8th grade cuz I thought it'd be funny to see what I like then. Um >> as a new student moving from Denmark. >> Yeah, it was it was brutal. >> Personal growth. >> What's up? >> Measure measured personal growth from then to now. >> Yeah, exactly. >> I don't know. I definitely feel like I've grown a lot. I feel like back then a lot of my actions were motivated a little bit more in terms of like what other people would think is funny. Um, not as much like what I found important to me. So, I don't think

I was a little bit disappointed that I didn't put in more material of substance to my life. Uh, I think it was more I just put stuff in that in a moment in eighth grade I strung together because I was like, "This is so funny." But um, but then again, it it was also a good experience to open up with my friends and a lot of them were in the same predicaments where we looked at this and uh, we looked back with fond memories from from that times and and a little bit of uh, headscratching as to what we were thinking, but nothing nothing too egregious. I'm making it sound like I did something terrible. It was just stuff that I thought was the funniest and looking back I just I shook my head at

it, but that's all. >> So, well, thanks guys. We all miss you. We'll come back. We'll talk about you guys in a second. Thank you. >> Uh, any other board comments? Jonathan Dunlap, Jonathan Cohen, Suzanne, Andrea? >> I have lots of comments. >> There you go. Um, >> can I do that one? >> Well, do you want to wait to do it? >> Oh, yeah. I'll wait to do that one. >> Fine, then wait to do that one until >> Okay, fine. I don't have any comments. >> Well, no, but do you want to do that one? >> No, that comes later. Never mind. I have no comments. >> Okay, >> you like you like me editing your comments. >> My comments will be old. >> Good. Fair. Well, you can you can uh you

can join in on some of these comments. First of all, um, just as a note to everyone who might be watching this, it is predicted to be 89 degrees on Thursday and 85 degrees on Friday, which means it's going to be not raining, but warm. So, I recommend breathable fabrics, as someone who has been up there a lot. Uh, Fun Fair, as you said, was a big hit. Uh, there are some people who were were working at it. Thank you to the PTA for putting that on. I'd also like to thank everyone who worked on Celebration of the Arts. If you have not been to Celebration of the Arts, everyone should go. Those kids are brave. It is not just recorders. It's singing. It is like dance performances. It is piano. It is violin. It's

amazing. Um, thank you to everyone who came out and clapped at the parade for the seniors. I think it is remarkable. Also, a big thanking up on what Kip said, to Reeds North who donated the barbecue, um, all of the food for the senior barbecue yesterday. It was delicious and we really appreciate their contribution. Um, and then last but not least, are we ready, you guys? >> You want to start? Oh, yes. Now I can say my comment. >> That's right. >> All right. My comment is about Kip. >> Yikes. >> So, I have two comments. First, I'm going to start with Lucy. Lucy, I expect you to be here next year so that we can say all sorts of delightful things. And you two will have to sit through this. >> Yes. I'll do

my best. >> I will shower you with >> Yes. >> love. >> Yeah. >> Um, so, yep. I think you just um displayed what I was going to lead off, which you have been a steady, delightful, insightful, and verbose presence on our our board this year. I really appreciated having you as a student rep. I will never forget the time that you decided to share with us all that midterms were your favorite when everyone else was like, "We hate midterms." And you're like, "I love them." I was like, "Wow, love that." Um it has been really wonderful getting to know you better and to get to see the district through your eyes. Uh I think that is really helpful not only for us as a board but for the community as well. Um we have

appreciated you being able to go to the other schools and get um your little inside scoop from your sisters. Uh that's always helpful. And then my recommendation for your cap is to hot glue an airplane on top. airplane just like pick the jet that you really want to fly >> and like >> Well, I would do like an aircraft carrier and a fighter jet on top. >> I mean, >> go 3D. >> Yeah, exactly. >> Yeah, I will go next. Um I will try really hard. I'm probably not going to look at you because as everyone knows when I talk about students, I start crying. I'm going to do great you guys. So, I know immediately. Um, I think there's a couple things. Andrea and I already provided some commentary at senior awards night for

which you had an outstanding appointment um, ceremony from the US Air Force that was amazing and like I think exceptional. Um, the things that I think are amazing is that this is I don't know if anyone knows but these meetings aren't always fun, right? In fact, we send 20 meetings a year, probably about two and a half hours each, which means that we spend an hour and a week with you guys averaged out, which is more than I think probably all of us spend with any other kid in our lives. So, it's really great to get to see you guys, to see your commitment, um to see your follow-up throughout the year. You've reached out, you've asked meet with Amy, you've asked to meet with Andrea and I to think about ways that you could

improve. Um, and as Andrea mentioned, you provide the color commentary, right? whether it's about apples being flushed down the toilet or devices or what is happening with a cell phone policy or sports or the other schools. Um we start every meeting not only with our student presentations which we are excited to hear from you guys but also from hearing from you guys about what's happening in the schools and it is a highly grounding reminder of why we are here and why we try to like pull together the resources and the people and the talent uh to do what we do. >> You're doing great. I'm getting there. Kip, you have been marvelous. I think that your color commentary is exceptional. I cannot believe that you're going to the Air Force. It is also remarkable that

you got into not just the US Air Force, but also the US Naval Academy. I literally don't know the last time that happened. Um, you have, I think, been truly committed. You were the only student that I saw come to every meeting for a good part of the year in a blazer and a sport coat. Uh, which is pretty remarkable. uh you brought it to the occasion and I think you take this role very seriously which I know you will take your future in the for the US military as well. Um we're going to miss you and I hope you stay in touch. You can be like Noah and come back, you know, when you're back for Christmas next year. Just come on by. We'd love to see >> probably will. Yeah. >> Okay. >>

Anyone else? Yeah. >> I'm the new guy at the U-shaped horseshoe table. And I will just say that the level of prof professionalism that you bring along with Lucy too and the depth you guys go to visiting the schools getting boots on the ground eyes witness what's going on is just it's stellar like it is something I don't see anywhere else and you guys do a stellar job and Kip thank you for everything >> Kip >> I have to say when we were doing the when at the senior awards night when you got your appointment it was at the very end of the meeting I I know some of us were there and I was standing um sitting next to Danielle Mazerf who is the counselor there and we were just it was like you

could hear a pin drop in that in that place and I had only ever seen one other appointment in my career in public education and there was just something really special and everyone saying all those wonderful things about you and out of the corner of my eye I saw your mom's face as you were up there and like mom to mom it's was just a really touching moment and I just hope you know how much your community is um so proud of you and as you're traveling the world you know we're here rooting for you and um all the time just keeping you in mind and you know you've done such a wonderful service here um being a student representative as Dolphie said like this isn't always a super fun time but it is really

important that students know that they have voice whether they're at the high school or they're at Gerald Martin and I'm just really thankful that the two of you take this role so seriously. ly. So, good luck. Um, as as everyone has said, we will really really miss you. >> Thank you. >> Great. Anything else? All right. >> Yeah. I I guess what what I would say first of all, I thank you both for your service, for being here with us. Um, you know, I I read a book that talks about um that when uh one of the biggest predictors of whether or not you're going to be involved in your community later in life is earlier community service and you both have decided to do that and taken the job seriously and done it well.

Um, and Kip clearly deciding to go to the Air Force Academy demonstrates a continued commitment to that community service. Um, we are lucky enough to be in a really fine community and what makes it great is all the people that grab an ore and pull and at such a young age to see you guys doing that is is very nice to see. So, um, Lucy, I'm sure you'll be back with us next year, and I certainly hope you are. And Kip, I wish you the best of luck. I'm sure you'll make us proud. >> Thank you. >> And then, can we do a picture with our student? I don't think we have one. >> Oh, yeah. Thanks. >> Can we get a picture with Can we do this? Is that okay? Are you taking? >>

Yeah. >> You're ready. >> Am I taking it or is Jody taking it? >> I'm not going to take it. >> Let's go. >> I'm sure. >> Can you guys push in a little bit? Three, two, one. >> Nice. >> All right. Good job. >> We're going to miss a tip, but you get to stay for the next two hours at this point. >> Here now. >> Yeah, exactly. Not done yet. >> All right. All right, guys. We are pretty excited about our student highlight. We have the best buddies from Happy to Middle High School. Do you guys want to come on up and tell you about tell us about what you're working on? >> Is there any way you can meet? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Sure thing. >> The tech director of the year

can take care of that. >> That is correct. He sure can. pulled up and ready. >> Yeah, >> I know. I know. Sorry. She wanted it. She's I know. Makes more sense. >> Yeah. >> Good thing. Sorry. >> Okay, cool. For those who don't know, LMA is also the starting pitcher for the varsity softball team. Is that correct? >> Yes. >> Yeah. She throws a lot of heat. She's amazing. >> It's pretty awesome. >> Sorry, >> Helena. You can put your computer down on the table. >> I'm happy to click through for you. >> It should. She's got something. She's bored. >> I don't know. All righty. Would you welcome? Would you please so much? >> All right. Hey guys. >> Hello. >> All right. So cute. >> All right. So, I'm Hannah and I

am the vice president of door activities. >> All right. Um, so Best Buddies is a club to celebrate inclusion, right? So Best Buddies is a global nonprofit organization and it has different chapters in based in high schools, colleges and then for adults as well. And so originally we because I have a cousin who was the president at her chapter and she's talking about it. She um she's president with Joe. So that's how me and Joe are also related and she's talking about how awesome is she like you have to do this. got to be a part of. And so that's kind of why we wanted to originally talk to this year officially starting. And then the pictures up on the screen are from this spring. It was the Best Buddies Friendship Walk which takes place

in conquer capital. And basically there are schools from all over New Hampshire that come together and we do a mile walk around and it's just a huge day to like celebrate inclusion and everything that we're doing. Awesome. >> So, in school we meet twice a month in the friendship. Every time we want to move um we meet twice a month. We like to have one of our meetings in the gym so we can get around and move our bodies and build and work on teamwork together. And then we have another meeting um that is often an art or craft. What we did recently this spring was we decorated flower pots and then repotted flowers to give to teachers just to show some appreciation for our teachers and we had a lot of fun doing that.

We're definitely bringing that back next year and I think it's just a place where a lot of people find community and everyone is welcome. This is no judgment. You can be um whoever you want to be. You can talk about whatever you want to talk about. It's just a true place of like judge free. Joe, would you like to say anything about your time in the club? >> Best ever. >> Oh, that's awesome. >> Amazing. That's great. >> Um, we really enjoyed running and I take it to the next step by attending a leadership conference this summer. >> Wow. Wonderful. to help us run the club a little bit better next year and we hope to continue this club and keep it at >> amazing. >> Where's your leadership club or where's the leadership conference?

>> Uh it's in Indiana. >> Yeah. >> Wow. >> Oh yeah. How did you guys get that covered? >> Yeah. Amazing. >> You guys did a lot of work. >> You did an awesome job and got the whole thing covered. It's amazing. >> Yeah, it is amazing. Wait, and are you both What year are you both? >> Sophomores. >> So, you'll be able to continue to grow the club for the next two years. >> Yeah. >> Great. Awesome. And how does membership look? How many other um high school students are members? We have around 25 members this year which was more than we expected for sure since our first year doing it. All of our members mostly are sophomores or freshman. Yeah. Because what we found out a lot since they don't stay which is

whatever last year is kind of expected and then we have a couple of juniors as well. Yeah. >> But it's mainly a lot younger which is good because we're going to be able to grow a lot. >> Awesome. Cool. >> Okay. Great. Any questions for Best Buddies? >> This is amazing. I um did a lot of work with Best Buddies when I was in college and I think it's an incredible organization. Um I'm really excited there's a chapter in Hawkington. I'm also really glad that there is I think uh communication amongst um the clubs in New Hampshire and that you guys are going to the leadership conference. It's incredible. Um and you should be really really proud of yourself. >> And also thank you to our wonderful advisor who's in today, Miss Mcdana. She was

a huge part in getting this club up and running and has helped us with meetings, emails, communication, activity planning. She is just such a rock and a milestone this and unfortunately our other advisor on the stage couldn't be here but weird but she's also truly amazing. >> Awesome. >> Cool. Thank you. >> Or M. >> Okay, cool. >> What has been your Oh, sorry. >> Oh, no. I was just going to say you had said college and I know that there are college chapters so this will be great to see >> uh if you continue your involvement once you leave us here exciting that there are these opportunities. >> What has been like your guys favorite activities so far all three of you? >> Um we did a little holiday celebration where we decorated cookies

in the cap and it was so much fun. It just like it was right before break. So, we all just need that like little time to decompress and it was fun. It was delicious and I think it was just like a relaxing time. >> Yeah. >> Oh, mine would probably be there's so much work to go into it and like get everyone there. But once you're actually there, even though it's like torrentially down the do it, it's still so much fun. They have ice cream lunch and it's just like everyone there is so excited and they just they love being there and it's really like >> amazing. >> Just all of it's the best time ever. >> I love that. That's great. >> Cool. All right. Thank you guys. >> Keep up the good work.

Can we get a picture with you, too? Is that okay? >> Yeah. >> Oh, yeah. >> there more photos >> at the end. >> Stand next to you again. supposed to be my buffer. >> Yeah. Make sure there's space between you and Andrea. The two reds. >> Um anyway, we can come in a little bit. A little long. Yeah. Get in there loose, please. All right. Laura, a little Yeah. Aim. Go to towards Kip a little bit. Thank you. Perfect. >> Thank you. I have two videos. >> Lucy, so I put the two videos for hot news. Do you want me to show the one that you and Kip >> are the voice over? >> Um, if it might be a little redundant. >> Yeah. Like I think you all obviously know it might be

a little >> Okay, I'll just You spent a lot of time. >> You've heard our voices enough. >> Yeah. >> Thank you, Best Buddies. >> Thank you. We really, really appreciate it. >> All right. Do we want to show it? >> Well, they just said um that it's in the folder. >> If you want to hear. Absolutely. Um most of our stuff just came from what we've been told from you guys. >> Can we link Oh, we can't throw it out. Can we link it publicly? >> No. Nope. >> Okay. So, for board members, there are two Hawk newses that are in the folder. One of which is just like the latest and greatest, which includes updates on prom, amongst other things, and all of the athletics and everything else, as well as the security

redesign project from Kip and Lucy. >> It hasn't gone live yet. >> It has not gone live yet. >> Unreleased. >> Yeah. So, we don't necessarily want to >> preview it, you know, >> but you're going to do that tomorrow. >> Tomorrow morning >> in front of everyone. it. So, >> it'll be on every single screen in every single um classroom like on the projector. >> That's great. So, >> okay, cool. >> Yep. >> Amazing. >> Great. Any questions for our students? >> I think so. >> All right. Uh director's reports. Who do we want to start with? >> One. Do you have somewhere else to go? >> Do you want to come on up? Come on. >> Yeah. >> He was coming in hot. >> Yeah. I apologize. >> So, uh, that will say

I've got a report. I think Jim covered just about everything. Our games are going for softball. want to throw tonight 109 and nonward to a crazy week and stuff like that. Two wars coming up schools next Monday night schools follow Monday night at 6:00. Couple quick notes. Uh they have destroy the bathrooms of the >> demo demo the bathrooms construction days and second baseball was done they were greater and getting stuff going the other ones I mentioned um so I talked gave a lot about impact for middle school kids questions that it's really one of those things. It's just I'm sorry I don't have time to test my school kids so many kids to get through things. Um how are the school nurses who stepped out the summer so organizing it and we had two

sessions one today as well as the first one back and we have more sessions set up. We're trying to get as many graders rising seventh graders. >> Um, no. Um, I should know this because I know we talked about the plans in the bathrooms. Is there still going to be a concessions window? Do you know? >> Um, so they have four separate bathrooms. And within the storage closet, there's no interior stuff right now, but there is a place where you can put >> Okay, cool. >> Awesome. Good luck with all the games. If people have not gone to see all of the high school and middle school games, like it is like our teams are really good and like enthusiasm is high. Um, it's really, really fun. Uh, Kip is really good lacrosse as it

turns out also. So, it's good. Any other questions for Dan, Mr. Merve? >> Okay. Thanks, Dan. Appreciate it. Good luck for the rest of your season. >> Appreciate it. >> Gonna be great. U Mandy like standing at the mic. So come on over. >> So I also want to do a quick shout out to Laura because she did her little magic in technology and created like this wonderful visual that's going to allow me to use touch points a whole lot nicer when I give my report. So I'm just saying thank you to her. I literally got it 10 minutes ago. So I'm very excited. Anyway, so you know, it's the time of year we're trying to wrap up one year, start the next, figure out what what, you know, all the work that needs to

be done. So, I kind of want to just give a brief overview of where we are with ESY, what my summer is probably going to be um consisting of and and and go from there. So, ESY this year will be from an extended school year is what ESY stands for this time. Um so, it'll go July 6th through July 3rd. again just like the last year's well since I've been here it's been 4 days a week um so we'll do Monday through Thursday um for those and as you saw in the report some students will attend age 12 a 4-hour session um because that's what their need is they just have more reading or more math they need some social skills that are needed fitting in their speech and language and OT services and other

students just need to come in for their targeted instruction so some may be here for an hour some may be here for four um so we're working through all that now I met with a teachers actually this morning and we you know we started getting that list together. We're starting to group our students. We're starting to figure out who's going to cover where, how are we going to make this all work. Um and then getting the information we need to finalize some of those in the next couple of weeks. So that's exciting. Um I want to send a huge thank you to to Jim and and his staff as well as the ESY staff. Um last year due to uh construction here the Maple Street and Harold Martin kids were together and everybody loved that

model. So, because of the redesign, we're doing everybody at Harold Martin this year. Um, so Jim has a task of making sure we have tables that a high school student could sit on because the biggest kid is in third grade, so we don't have big enough um seating for them. So, they're going to work with us all summer to make sure that those are taken care of. Um, and and they have what we need there. Um, but it's also very exciting because now our OT or our speech path doesn't have to travel between buildings. So, there'll be some really beneficial things from that. But but just like last year, what we saw from the consolidated model, that flexibility in student grouping, really being able to target the kiddos, even if they're not in the same

grade level, from the skills where they're at, we were really able to do some really fun flexible things within that. There might have been one group for reading, but there was a different group for math. Um, things like that. It also allowed some of our kiddos just opportunities to have some leadership. So, if you have a third, fourth, fifth grader who just wants to build some confidence, well, they're going to go help out prek. and they were reading stories to the preschoolers and things like that just to so it provides those opportunities that we wouldn't have had otherwise. But at the end of the day, it also allows us to use our resources efficiently, right? So if I have everybody in one building and one student doesn't come that day, I could use that IIA

or whoever else anywhere. So it just allows for some um allows us to use those resources more effectively. So, and then you know, as I shared a little bit, especially at our Herald Martin and Maple Street students, what we're really trying to do over the last two years before they used to come in and kind of do a review of their grade level just to get and to maintain that know that content knowledge before they were going into the next grade. Last year, we just we moved that model and we're really I I literally take every student, I look at their IEP goals, who's working on what, and now we're grouping them. Obviously, we're not having too many grades spans between anybody, but it allows us to group and then whatever that lesson is, the

lesson is based on the IEP goals, not just a skill in third grade. Um, so we really could target there. In addition to that, they're also getting pulled for their specific IEP service. So, they're almost getting a double dose um throughout the week of those services that they need. And it's it's been impactful and everybody really enjoyed that. We even had great feedback from the students for the same. So, we're excited to continue that this year. Um, a big portion of my work, I've already started it, but a big portion of my work this summer will also be completing the um the multi-tered systems of support guide book. Um, so the draft that I've created so far that is meant to be completed with the rest of the team. I took six different schools school

samples from different schools. Um and then I also went to our branching minds is who we have the software place that they have resources. So they have an entire MTSS like resource for us to how do you build a guide book to make it have all the information you want. So I've utilized all those to make sure that those components will all be covered within our guidebook. But it would really just help us um come together and just do like it's a place for us to document all the things we know we're doing really well >> and it clearly articulates where we want to go and how we're going to align what's happening at tier 1 and tier 2 and tier three and it's just a it's a place where everybody can go and it's

clear where if we're just talking about it there's going to be those differences between buildings that doesn't allow for the consistency that we really are looking for. So, I'm excited to be able to to work through that. And, you know, I know some of the people that that I have in mind to work with me on it, I just know how pretty they're going to make it because I'm not techsavvy enough to make it pretty. I know what I want. Um, but I'm really excited to to have this roll out and to be able to continue progressing that work forward. Um, it's going to be a lot of work, but it's it's exciting. Um, the other part will also be working on um creating a a resource binder and updating a resource binder for my

case managers. It'll really just serve as a place they can go to. I have a referral meeting coming up. I need to make sure I have all my paperwork. Where can I go check that I need all the things that I need and also provide them with some exemplars and some expectations of what I expect to see in each of those things. Again, we have everything is solid, but you can also when you go to the different meetings see the nuances between the same. So, if I'm seeing them a family that's then tracking through each building and it's like, well, Harold Martin, we did it this way. The document looked like that. >> So, it's just bringing it all together and saying we're all using this and here's what the expectation is moving forward. Um,

with that will come some training to you just to talk about to be able to work with them through >> what's in there. Um, because I don't want to just hand it to them and say good luck. I want to make sure that we're talking about it and um making sure that we're bringing all of those pieces together on that end. So, I've already started the work. It's just a matter of wrapping it up and and >> amazing >> getting it out for them. Um and I think, you know, the reason this summer that I can spend time on the MTSS guide book or this procedural compliance piece is because I know we have an added district case manager and LEA rep coming to the table. I can't tell you how important that is. It

doesn't just I don't mean it from a lessen my load standpoint. I think it just allows us to expand our capacity overall, not just for me. Um, so I'm really excited to be able to add her to that team. So, I want to thank you guys and thank all of you, but thanks to the community as well for supporting the addition of that position uh to to adding that position in. I know it wasn't added to the budget, but it was a different it was a new position. Um, but it's going to be impactful for sure. So, I really can't wait. >> Great. >> Amazing. >> Thank you. >> Questions for Mandy? >> I'm just excited about the direction. >> Yep. >> I'm really excited about We've been talking about MTSS for years and like

h the fact that you're going to have both the resource in place >> and the bandwidth from having um a wonderful person join join the team who's going to be able to take this load off your plate. I think is going to be incredible in terms of like the structure, the thought, the implementation you're going to be able to put in into place. Um, you have seemed marvelous this year, Mandy, and I really like you seem like you've got some pep in your step, and it's you're it's translating, I think, into like you're bringing your work to the next level, and I really appreciate it. Thanks. I think I think it goes to my role encompasses so many facets of things. So, when you have to just do your job, there's no time to actually

lead. So I think that's where the pep comes from is I'm okay with managing like every we can I think we all do that really well but that bringing in the leadership portion of it I'm just really excited for the opportunity. So just excited I've got a lot to learn because there's pieces that I know but I I never I don't like we were talking this morning with Amy. I have a master's degree in curriculum instruction but I don't do that role on a regular basis. So there's just those pieces of training and knowledge based things that I just can't wait to like wrap my brain around and >> bring back. That's exciting. >> Other questions for Amanda? >> I'm excited about the the ESY. I remember last year how successful it was. Like a

happy surprise finding out putting, you know, Harold Garden and Maple Street together. And so I'll be really interested to see what happens when you bring in middle high school as well. >> I don't I read through your report, but some reason I didn't realize that it was like everybody was going to be doing everybody. So that'll be great. That'll be really interesting. >> Well, thanks, Mandy. Thanks. Appreciate it. >> Nice work, Mandy. Thank you. Thank you. >> All right, Matthew Stone. Cool. feel like. >> So I divided my report into two years and then realized afterwards that I really should have done three years because of course you're already planning for next year's budget because >> working with vendors you know you have a very little time before uh that budget process starts again. Um

it it is interesting because our the tech world changed in terms of budgeting. Um prices went insane in November, which is suboptimal when you submit your budget in September or October. Um but that's the world we live in. So uh working hard with vendors to figure out how we're going to handle that situation. Uh a lot of great conversations. We uh had an opportunity to go down to connection at Marramck uh last week and chat with a bunch of vendors there. Uh some really interesting conversations about sort of where the market is going. And then getting ready for an exciting summer. Um, you know, it's a little bit quieter in terms of huge projects. Uh, you know, definitely working on upgrading that classroom Wi-Fi. I was thinking of the start of school and the student

suddenly defending descending on your network sort of like a hurricane hitting the shores. Um, and you'll find out if your preparations were adequate very quickly. Um, so that's always fun. And then, uh, working on some cyber security projects. uh hopefully agov migration so we'll have some additional protections through uh state grant program which is fabulous and uh yeah looking forward to it and of course greatly enjoying working with uh my new staff member so thank you again for supporting that position um Zach has started really well he's gotten great compliments for his ability to both solve technical problems and also uh understand teachers he's never worked in educ education before and I had to tell him education's a little weird. Teachers are both wonderful and sometimes very harassed and busy and you may not be

their priority when you walk in. So, uh, working around that, but it's been an excellent start for him. >> Yeah, I will real quickly add to he came into one of my classes, my AP computer science class to help out with that and was super super useful, not only at helping set things up, but also helping to explain things to the computer science students. So very glad to have him. >> Thank you. >> He's great. >> And you as well. You're all so awesome. Thank you. >> It came three times. So you know, >> amazing. And can I say something really quick first? So first of all, you know that I'm a lady that loves metrics in the opening of your director's report, which is like a new ad for you. Honestly, was like amazing

being able to see the number of devices that you have. I loved um how many tech tickets there are. That's insane. I mean that's what like five a day. So, the interesting thing is if you look at them, um I can tell that my Cody at the high school is not always great at getting people to actually put in tickets. He'll just solve the problem. And then because if you look at the average tickets per day, the high school is way down here and the elementary schools are both okay. So, uh so I'm guessing it's quite a few more than that that actually gets all but >> I think it's great. I also think your your goal does tie into communication. Parent Square was used for more than 1,700 posts, 15 alerts, and 140 class

permission slips and 4,000 attendance notices. Uh, so like one of our goals, as you know, is communication. And Parent Square, I think, has really been picked up and run forward by a lot of people, including Amy Doyle sending out the first, you know, messages directly from the superintendent. And also, I love the shout out from Miss Beckwith, who just demolished Dan Meser, who's not here, but like just totally crushed it. So, I think this is huge. I would also say as a board member, and I've gotten texts from board members who have inquired about fishing schemes uh on behalf of me as a chair, you do a really nice job, I think, of responding to incidents when they impact either the board or uh staff members, what have you. Um so, thank you because that

that often is like at a random time of night, honestly. So, I appreciate it. >> Thanks. Okay. So, I get to finally congratulate you for something that I've known about for quite some time and I've been so excited to say congratulations. So, I'm so they let me say congratulations because I've been really excited about this. So Matt won um he was named 2026 New Hampshire CTO of the year for his transformative 22year commitment to educational excellence. Um, and I'm just going to say beyond modernizing district infrastructure and cyber security, Matt is a vital collaborator within the New Hampshire K12 community, mentoring peers, and translating complex state guidance into practical implementation. His leadership balances technical expertise with a student- centered approach, ensuring technology serves as a sustainable, inclusive tool for learning. Known for his integrity and

calm, steady guidance, uh, calm, steady guidance, Matt exemplifies the qualities of a true technology champion. So, we are so lucky to have you. I am so proud to have you as our technology director. Your report was great, but super congratulations, tech director of the year. So, >> thank you very >> if I could just say one of the wonderful things about being involved with the NACTO council when it first formed was of course when I started here in Hawinson I had so many wonderful mentors uh teachers and administrators who helped me be a better professional work better in schools but I didn't necessarily have that technology mentor u and when the NHCTTO formed as a group of where tech directors could meet, discuss and and plan. It was sort of like water to a d

a drowning man or to a dying anyway, excuse me. Um, and it was, you know, wonderful to have the district support going to those things and taking part in the activities over the years. And then as I grew in my career, I joined the board there and was able to, you know, participate more. And you know, for them to sort of say one of the reasons they chose to recognize me this year was for mentoring some of the newer tech directors really felt like I'd come full circle in my career and was extremely gratifying. So I do want to thank everyone for supporting me uh in doing that work. I think it has really helped the district and certainly helped me in terms of knowing what's going on in the state being sometimes being able

to influence what's going on in the legislature with regards to technology and law which sometimes they listen to us and sometimes they don't but I think everyone has that experience with the legislature. Um but certainly uh being aware of those things being able to respond in the best way to protect the district and also take advantage of opportunities has been wonderful. >> Well, that's great. >> I think it's congrats Matt. And we get to go to the yetis which Yeah, the Yeti. We're really excited. And Matt's table filled up in about five minutes. So that's just let you know all the people that wanted to go to celebrate with him. And it's not the fillet that they're serving, right? It's >> Yeah. >> Many things about the man are good at the dinner. >> Not

as much. >> Pasta all around. >> Any other questions for Matt? Accolades. >> Congratulations. >> It's really great. You should know that you were spoken of very highly across the state and it's remarkable. You are a great asset. >> Thank you. Great work, Matt. >> Okay, guys. Uh thank you, Mandy. See you later. Uh next up, we're going to talk about school lunch pricing. Just to tee this up, as you guys remember, um we have seen trends and increases in revenue over the last couple of months, but traditionally we do lose money every year in school lunches. Uh we have tried to close the gap with a couple additions to our menu and also um being able to have the online forms um for free and reduced lunch. Uh but uh there are some recommendations

that we want to talk through. >> Yes. So in your board packet um I met with Tracy Barker, our food service director, and we discussed thoroughly what we thought we should do. And our recommendation today for prices for next year are um to increase milk that is purchased uh alak cart um by 25 cents to bring it to 75 cents and then uh we are requesting a 10 cent increase to all meal prices over breakfast, lunch and adult sales. And the reasons for this um last year we did 25. I gave you a couple of options. The reason there's no options here is that I did um some I did some analysis of I certainly I talked with other districts. We are one of the higher paid meal prices per district um or in the

districts around but also that the benefit of our program is healthy meals but also time for parents and we don't want to price ourselves out of that time benefit for them. Um, as I did some research and the cost of preparing homemade meals is cheaper than our cost. So, it really is the time benefit that I think a lot of parents find. And so, we want to make sure that we are balancing um our prices with sales and still getting the numbers. We have some abilities to set these rates for next year and then we can work through our alle cart sales which I'm very happy to say we have $27,000 more in aloc cart sales this year than we did last year. >> So we have sold 4,000 more items al cart than we

did last year >> but our meals are down. So we I do just want to be cognizant of the fact that alakart can be fluctuated based on our costs while lunch sales are set by the school board. >> Okay. I'm happy to answer any questions. I've got a whole bunch of um backup information and data over here if you want to know anything. So, so I'm just going to um say that this is a subject that we have been discussing in finance that we have not yet come up with specific numbers that we would recommend in finance although we have talked around them and I'm going to recommend that we um hold on voting on this until finance gets a chance to meet on the 15th to continue our conversation about this. I think it

would be appropriate for finance to weigh in, make recommendations, and then for it to come to the board for discussion and vote. >> Yeah, that's fair. I think I I think the only thing that has me a little concerned about it is the 10-cent flat is the same for an elementary meal, which works to be like a five or 6% increase, and the adult meal is 10 cents, too, which is a 2.4% increase. I think I think the only thing we want to discuss and hash out is is that parody fair. >> Yeah. Jonathan and I were having a little side conversation about >> Okay. We um I just want you to know that for adult meals, elementary lunch meals for adults um for last year was 282 as opposed to student lunches of 28,000.

>> It's a drop in the bucket. >> It is. Um, we do find that we don't have as many adult meals sold as we would like. >> Our Yeah, our staff don't participate too much. >> I I still think we're meeting >> I think with finance on the 15th and then we meet as a board on the 16th, I think. >> Yep. >> So, I don't see a reason not to um just let us have continue that conversation before it comes. Anyway, that's that's my recommendation. >> Okay. >> For the full board, if I may add, our breakfast sales are down 1.2% 2% from last year and our lunch sales are down um 5.2% from last year. >> In units or revenue >> in um actual numbers of sales and the number of lunches sold.

>> The number Yeah. units. >> Y units. >> Yep. >> Um from my position, I think we're all on the same page that >> we're closing the deficit. >> The deficit is getting a little better this year, but we see the headwinds of the economy, food prices, gas prices, fertilizer prices. like we're going to have to do something to close that gap further. >> It's just how big big of a hatchet do we take and >> how far do we go? >> But also to your point in looking at our numbers versus area schools, we are on the higher side. >> We are >> and we are on the lower side of free and reduced numbers as well. >> Yeah. Yeah. And I don't mean to suggest that we're I mean I think that we've

been pretty consistent in the finance committee that this is direction that we would recommend, >> but I think it's appropriate procedurally for the committee to come up with a recommendation whether it's for these exact numbers or some tweak of these numbers to come to the board. I just think that that's the purpose of the committee. >> I I agree that you know this certainly can go back to the committee. I also think that it's helpful um it's actually helpful for us to preview it here since we will only have >> we're only going to have one meeting to be able to discuss this and then vote on it as a as a board. Um so being able to >> for us as a group to start thinking about these I think is actually really important.

um and to get any clarifying questions um you know because to have to ask those questions and then think about them and then vote all in one meeting can be challenging. >> Yeah. And I think >> I totally agree with that >> 100%. And I think it's important to call out as you did in the milk like the milk costs not our self price. Forget the self price. The milk costs >> gone up astronomically. >> Yes. >> Sure. And we certainly have talked about as John said, I mean diesel is up, fertilizer is up thanks to many international pursuits. So it's something we need to be thinking about and anticipating as we think about our budget. >> Next question. Yeah. >> Um and maybe you just said you did just share lots of numbers. So

perhaps you did just say this, but I see that milk costs have increased um from 51% uh to 66%. What is what is the amount of milk that is being purchased? Like what are we seeing for milk being bought? Like our kids buying milk separate from hot lunch. >> Lots of chocolate milk. >> Yep. Um >> because it's the best. >> Yes. >> Delicious. >> To answer that question. >> We sell about 8,200 cartons of milk h by themselves. >> Oh, great. >> For breakfast and lunch. Separate. separate >> hot lunch. Yes. Perfect. >> It's a lot of milk. >> It's only 45 a day across the district. It's actually not that much. >> Not that much at all. >> So, like it's not it's a lot, but it's not. >> Yeah. >> Um my

only considerations for the finance committee would be that I do care about trying to stick up with inflation. Um >> I think that that's important. I think also the weighing the benefit and I think it's hard to have a losing program, but also it's an It's a it's a sticky wicket to try to thread and also trying to understand what is the you guys get to do a lot of fun pricing discussion of what is the price elasticity and sensitivity amongst parents if we raise the prices too much will volume go down um so that's it I would thanks Kipling >> um thank you good luck >> if we don't see you >> should be you next >> okay great I mean you'll have graduated thank you um but I would just try to like

thread that needle and and thank you for the pre-work work and if the finance committee can pick it up and make a recommendation, I think that'd be great. >> Yeah. And it it may even be helpful to have like two options as far as recommendation goes. Like it could look like this or it could look like that. >> Yeah. >> Cool. Great. Okay. Are you good? >> Great. >> Terrific. Thank you. All right. Next up, >> I have one one more question. I'm sorry. Kim, >> do we want to make food are are we going to be looking at food service costs? Like so we looked at this last year as a board. Is this something that we want to look at on an annual basis? Like is this something that we would like to

adopt as like the cadence of our board? So just something again I would say maybe for finance to consider um like adopting as part of something that finance does on an annual or by annual basis. just >> adopting as part of >> Well, do we vote every year on the pricing? >> Yes. >> So, we vote every year on the pricing. >> Okay. Yeah. So, >> so that might be a good thing then just to to adopt then um into the the cadence of the committee. >> Y >> would also be helpful. >> Yep. Super. Thank you. >> Next up. >> All right. Also in your packet tonight is a memo about unassigned fund balance potential projects. Um at the last um finance committee meeting we continued to project an the available fund balance at

the end of the year uh which is approximately $135,000. And so what is usual in customary the last couple of years is that we've brought forth some projects for you to consider. Um you can also as Laura has reminded me return that as tax relief. So she has some information there. Uh but we've put together projects um across facilities and safety operations uh curriculum and music um athletic needs uh for you to consider. The majority of them are either one-time investments um that have either come up over the course of the school year facility maintenance and you'll notice some of them are also safety improvements or the purposeful replacement of aging equipment. >> Uh so we can walk through the different buckets if you will. Um the first uh table there is about facilities and

so um met with Jim and and Laura and looking at you know what are the uh projects that are really needing to be done. Um you'll notice that there are some exhaust fans and there was a heating issue at Herald this year. Um so he has done Jim has done some some quotes and some preliminary uh costs to be able to complete those projects. Um, we've also had um an increasing issue with the NPR storage door there. If you've been at Herald, it's the door when you come down the stairs to the right. Um, that door has continued to deteriorate. Um, we had a request uh from some high school students to provide some privacy film at the in the counseling office. Um, sometimes students are there in moments of distress and they're looking uh

to provide some privacy there. Um and so we are moving uh some the learning centers uh to other locations uh as part of the security redesign. Um so those doors should be fire rated and have um a a window that you can look into. So there's a projected cost there. Um and there is an need to provide some acid neutralizer in a tank um at the middle high school. So, those are the areas of facilities. Um, in the area of athletics and and Dan was here of talked to him about it was replacing some batting cages and some aging soccer goals. Um, and then we had a really great project this year with students where we're looking to uh renovate and revise the the high school weight room. Um, they use it in PE classes,

but also our athletes use it. And so, um, we spent some time going through and getting rid of disposing of all of the broken equipment. Um, and then there were students that met with Jim and Chris, uh, to talk about what kind of equipment they might want to see used, um, in that or available in that space. And the senior class has offered, um, to purchase a new piece of equipment as one of their gifts uh, to um, the school. So, you'll notice there the estimated cost. There's no limit of what we could buy there, but um at least looking to balance uh what the senior class is is offering. Um and then moving into music, um the chorus risers that we use at the elementary level, um we have six sets and three of

them were replaced a couple of years ago and the other three really do need to be replaced. Um and then we have students that borrow instruments from um Mr. Leverg Good um and Mrs. scatty as they're learning to play instruments and we often don't either have enough instruments or the instrument itself has been aged. Um so looking to make a euphonium, a baritone saxophone and perhaps a timony drum available for student use. And then in the area of curriculum instruction, replacing some uh textbooks. Um and then also there is a need I we are in our second year of Amplify um but every year you do purchase some um replacement materials and for grades three, four and five um the new version of Amplify, the third edition um does a much better job with word

study than the second edition. Uh so we would be looking to up um update some literacy materials just for those grade levels. So not K1, two or six. um it really to target spelling which is decoding and encoding. So those are the buckets of things that you can that we can discuss. Um of course there are other you know needs. So if um this totals about 110,000 of that um unassigned fund balance. >> Thank you. It's a great list. This is something that in the past uh the fund balance as you guys know is a little bit of a moving target. We usually present it. Everyone should sit with it, ask questions about it. Uh, finance, do you want to discuss this also on the 15th and then come back to us with a recommendation?

>> Sure. Does >> that make sense? >> Knowing that we there still could be some >> is amplify uh just a specific question. Is that um >> what materials? Like are we talking about uh electronic materials? Are we talking about >> a little bit of So we would buy um the teacher online uh licenses anyway. So this is a replacement of of physical materials that would be used in the classroom. >> It's a book. >> So it's for teaching teaching kids on Chromebooks. >> It's no physical actual book. Yeah. It's a consumable book. >> Yeah. It's the consumable. Well, there there are, you know, for lack of a better word like readers. Yeah. >> That they use. So, these are the physical readers that they will hold in their hands and read as part of

their work. >> Amy, is there a way for us to see some of these things um like references to to doors and things like I just want to make an educated >> Absolutely. I mean, if you want to come to Harold Martin, you can take a look at the door. the kitchen heater. I don't think you would notice if it was, you know, that really happened in the winter. Um, and he did, um, Jim was able to repair it to a certain point, but, you know, it's the newer that the MPR, the kitchen is, you know, one of the older parts of the building. Um, the counseling office windows is where you're passing, you know, that is that >> area. I look up like film and it's you can get you can get suitable film

for, you know, a couple roles. Mhm. >> It's not $2,000. >> I just throw, you know, I'm curious about how like if we're going to say that we're going to spend some of this, like how how do I prioritize without see? Absolutely. Um if you just want to let me know, Suzanne, what you'd like to look at and we can arrange for you to come by either Herold or the middle high school. >> Um I don't know about the neutralizer tank. I don't know that you want to go down there. Just take it take Jim's word for it that it's smelly. >> Got it. At least I will. Yeah. >> Yeah. Laura, was there anything you wanted to add to this? >> No, I think as of right now, um, May financials are not complete,

but we are tracking along the lines of the 135 that we spoke of last month. Um, so it is the board's decision how you like to handle that. Okay. >> Um, so happy to meet in finance. We'll also have May financials completed at that time, so we'll have even a closer picture. um of where of where we stand. Okay. um if the board has any feelings about where you might want that number to land at the end of the year. Also, um in terms of suggestions on return, that is always helpful for the finance committee to talk about >> where where do you think the weight room falls the equipment? Is that under the CIP? Is that not under the C? Like what is >> every I mean every item is going to be under

$10,000. So, >> okay. So it's the aggregate is 28,000. >> Yeah, it's the Yes, it's the aggregate of all item takes it out. Okay. The free elliptical number I'm wondering about. >> Yeah, I was thinking about the same thing. >> Yes. And and we can take a look at what the students have brought forward. I can ask uh for that list because some were looking for kettle bells as um Laura said, free weights um some you know requests for other machines, a lat pull down machine. >> I did take some pictures of the weight room at the beginning of this year. It is in tough shape. Um, I do not think it has been updated since Deli and I were in school and the, you know, there are, it certainly needs some work. >> That

feels like it might be an opportunity for fundraising on the kids behalf because as a parent who sent a kid to the school who played three varsity sports, the wait room was not heavy use by her. It's certain teams that tend to use it and especially where we're bringing in football and it's free for those kids for what? Maybe that's a place for them to fund raise. Um, you know, it's this isn't a college program where we provide, you know, where you get your uniforms, you're getting your transportation, you're getting all your stuff. If you want to work out on the school's property, maybe we could fund raise for that lap. >> It also just point out the PE classes and health and wellness, they use the the they use the way room as well

as part of their curriculum. So it isn't only used by by athletes but there are you know certainly as you mentioned >> I will make a note of that using it more than others. >> Yeah. >> Um do we have any potential um costs that could eat into this like upcoming cost that could eat into this 135? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Yep. So this I mean there's alwaysend could still change. >> Um transportation I think is always you know a wild card. Um and Laura certainly can talk more about the fuel charge. >> I mean we've all seen the way that gas prices and diesel have gone up in the past for student has not provided us with a fuel search charge. Um thank you to Herby and our our team. Um but they

have every legal right to do so and if they feel that they need to they bill me for that at the end of June. Um, so, >> oh, at the end of June, you would find that >> they would reconcile. >> I remember we talked about this. Okay. >> Yeah, >> I do have the money in, you know, h held right now, but I also it >> it's up a lot, >> right? It's not a lot. Um, because they haven't build us in the past. So, I don't want to hold 50 grand if I'm not going to use 50 grand, but this year we might. >> Y, >> we've already seen a fuel search charge with one of our out of district placements. >> Um, they have started to give us a fuel search charge

on their invoices. >> Yep. for just vans. >> Yeah, we're up quite a bit. >> I was going to say I've seen many fuel charges coming through. >> I'm sorry, Jonathan, I cut you off. Would you? >> No. No. Okay. >> And the number >> I was saying it could be a big number. >> Yeah. My back of the envelope calculation in terms of the tax impact of 135 is that about >> It's about 10 cents. >> 10 cents is what I calculated. Is that right? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, for every $100,000, it's about $8 >> on, you know, a 500. Yeah. >> Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Great. Okay. >> It's about 10 cents. >> Y, >> that's nice. Thank you. >> All right. Any other questions or recommendations for the finance committee before we

come back with our final recommendation and discussion to vote on the 16th >> or additional information that you might want or need? No, I I guess the only other thing is um I just wanted to confirm we we have also already voted to return $400,000. Correct. >> Yes. >> Right. >> Yes. And that is already um >> accounted for. >> Yes. Accounted for as that's already been a decision. Yes. >> Okay. >> Super. >> All right. Great. This is a lot of work. Thank you for putting this together. It is nice to also see the priorities that you guys are thinking about. I know you've been talking about textbooks at the middle high school for a while. It's a lot. Um, I also don't really want them as a neutralizing tank to heard now. >>

Yeah. >> Uh, cool. All right. Thanks, guys. If there's anything else that people would like to see, uh, please feel free to direct your questions to, um, Amy and I or Amy and Jonathan. Uh, and we'll make sure the finance committee is able to review it and and get what you guys need. Okay, cool. Thank you. The memo. Um, next up, we have our final read of our non-union administrators nominations. As a reminder, uh we can talk about the process. If you have a specific question about an individual, we do need to go into non-public. So, which is totally fine. Um but we just don't want to talk about individuals um in a public meeting for reputational risk. Um any questions about that or does anyone want to go into non-public? All right. Great. Do

I have a motion to approve the non-unit administrator nominations as presented? So moved. >> Second. >> Okay. Any discussion? All right. Um, all those in favor? >> I. All those opposed? Right. I would just like to say there's like a few people in here who have multiple decades. Um, you know, which is amazing. Dan is Yeah, I can say their names, right? >> I don't know. >> No, maybe not. There's a few people who I think have really given us a lot of years of service. Uhu. Um, and we're we we it's it's a remarkable district that we have that we're able to I think retain staff. Um, and it's it's great. Thank you. Okay. >> I don't think Dan would mind though. >> I don't think Dan would either. Think. Yeah. Okay. Cool. All

right, guys. Next up, calendar agenda. So, we have the We had preed this at the last meeting, but we want to finalize our schoolboard meeting dates. It's partially because um we need to get on everyone's calendars for travel awareness, spring training, all the things. I did ask if um and Jonathan had a budget committee meeting last week or two weeks ago. They have not set the calendar for budget committee going in through the fiscal year, the fiscal review process. Um so I think we'll just keep the asterisk for that January 3rd meeting. If everyone just keeps it there, I think it's good just in case they want to have us up right away. >> January 5th. >> January 5th. Thank you. Yep. Uh we all know coming in hot from vacation can feel a little

scoochy. Um but as long as we are all aware, then we should be good. Uh any other questions about the calendar? >> So we've got astrices there and on March 30th. >> Yep. which is um to make sure we have sufficient room for Laura to be able to do start doing our nominations ahead of our our shipping contract state so we can get all the reads in. >> Thank you. >> All right. Okay. >> Do I have a motion to approve the school board meeting dates for the 2026 27 27 school year? >> So moved. >> Second. >> All right. Any discussion? >> Looks great. >> All right. All those in favor? I. >> All those opposed. Great. summer permission to hire. >> Do you want us? >> We need your permission. Okay. Should um

the you will not be meeting much past uh June 16th unless we call a special meeting. So um I would like uh the chair to give us permission to extend uh contracts to um individuals as they become available. We don't have any um postings right now aside from instructional assistance, but you know that that could change if um someone chooses uh to take their talents elsewhere. So, >> and I sign on behalf of the board and then we review it at our meeting in August. >> Yes. And we all >> have to sound good. >> Yeah. >> Do we have permission? What's the actual motion language? Do we have a motion to grant summer permission to hire to the administrator and to me as a signator for the school board? >> So moved. >> Second.

>> Okay. All those in favor? I. >> All those opposed. Terrific. Policy squad, are we ready? >> Yeah, we don't we don't have much. We just have a whole bunch of second reads. So, we talked about these last week or I'm sorry, last meeting. Now, these are in second reads. Um, we had to hope to bring some first reads, but that that didn't happen. So, you just get second reads. >> Great. Amazing. They'll come final at the next meeting. >> Yep. Amazing. Uh and if you have any big thoughts and feelings about them, please direct them to our amazing policy committee. Okay. Uh with that, I'm pretty sure that's the end of current business. Let's move on. Yeah, we don't have to approve. All right. Can we move on to the consent agenda? Sure. Great.

>> Yes. Why? >> Um for personnel report tonight, new hires and resignations, it is your extended school year slate. So these are our extended school year teachers, nurses. Um and as you can see we have somewhat combined them as they as Mandy said they will be sharing space this year and sharing the program. >> There any question about that? >> Yes please. >> Um this is something that I think we we we talk about at the end of your all hands and also at the start of your all hands but um as you guys know teaching is 180 days. And there are teachers, a lot of teachers, as you can see here, who continue to add uh their talents over the course of the summer, which is a big recharge time for a lot of

people given the intensity of the school year. And so, thank you to every teacher who is doing this and providing the service for our students. It's massively appreciated. >> Next up is Do I Do you mind? >> Sure. >> Okay. Um our 26 27 schedule B slate. These are for the co-curriculars, not athletics. Athletics go in different groups, but these are our adviserss um that have requested these positions over the course of next year. We do have one vacancy right now for a freshman class advisor and um for the kindness club and student council at Harold Martin. Those are currently vacant. So, we will be looking to fill those this summer. Uh cool. Okay. Big opportunity. I mean those kids I heard there was basically like unanimous applications for third grade student council. Uh yeah,

lots of hearts and dreams. Okay. Also, thank you to all of the faculty that do this. It's a lot of our and you know, we hear about this, but a lot of the richness of our schools does come in through extracurriculars. Um my son moving up from third grade to fourth grade said he was really excited to apply to be in the Maple Street Crocheting Club. Oh, >> I was like, I don't think you have to apply or run for the crocheting club. He was like, really? He's like Friday afternoon. Just do it. So, >> that is a well attended club, I have to say. Yes, it's it's popping. We've got Yeah, >> it's good. Okay. Got a lot of kids. >> Yep. >> Okay. And then lastly for me tonight, uh we have a

donation. The Hop and PTA is donating 700 or excuse me $976 to cover the first grade field trip to the C science center. Um they are going I believe on Friday I want to say um >> 8:15. >> You happen to know >> I think you have an in >> second time. >> Really fun >> and so we thank them for their donation. >> Mhm. Is awesome. >> Okay. from the superintendent. Um, from my uh report, I have our first ever uh capacity report that's required as part of policy JF. Um, it is there is required information that's captured in that policy. So, you'll see the capacity report there. I'm required to submit it to you before May 31st, but you can request additional information or revisions or updates. Um, so if there's something that

else that you would like to see um, reflected in the report, I can certainly make those changes. Um, I looked at current and projected enrollment data. Either that is real from the last, you know, information that we have from the town reports and, um, I think I gave you an enrollment and projection memo earlier in the school year. Um, but we also, um, have uh, NESD gives us enrollment projections every year. Um, so we've included or at least had those inform um some of the information um that's in that report. So take a look and let me know what you think. Um there on the last page are the recommendations that you know just essentially we're going to continue to monitor our enrollment. Um they still at the legislature have not made a final decision

about open enrollment. So, as we continue to navigate um those waters, we just want to be clear about, you know, our capacity. Um and as you all know, we have some grade levels that certainly have more need than others. Um so, we will continue, would be my recommendation is to continue on a case-byase basis when you're considering um enrollment of non-resident students. Um and also, if we were going to um increase our capacity in a particular grade level, we would want that to go through the budget process. um we are pretty um lean based on our class size policy um across the board. So we just want to be cognizant u if we decide to in increase capacity in any in any way. We really don't have the space uh for more specialized programs whether

that is similar to a CRTC offering um or even a more um specific program for students. So just keeping that that in mind as well. >> Correct. >> As a note uh two things here. One is open enrollment HB751 is up for a vote uh um Thursday. It was amended in a non-public committee of conference last week really under the radar. It's allowing it's recommending that districts be able to send and pay for have to rather than not recommending but that we would have to send and pay for 10% of their students. Uh we have talked about this extensively. Um please call the governor's office. please call our representatives depend, you know, um uh this would be really expensive and hard for the Huffington School District uh to manage, especially given the fact that this

would go into effect for next year and we just do not have the budget. So, please tell your friends, tell your neighbors, do all the things. >> Selfishly, it's important to us locally, but every school district is gonna struggle with this to implement if it goes through. I mean, it's a nightmare everywhere. Yes, it would be incredibly incredibly incredibly hard. >> Um, >> depends on what your motive is. >> Yeah. >> Um, alongside that, I would love for you to just think about the number of pages that you have created in reports that have to be submitted to the state this year as part of various other things in your first year of being a superintendent because it is no joke. We have never before had to do an enrollment uh capacity report. Uh, I

really appreciate all of your work tying all of this out. I know that you do a lot of this work on weekends. Thank you. >> You're welcome. Thank you. Okay. Um, also in your packet is a request for an overnight field trip. This coming to us from Rob Roth would like to take uh the I'm going to get this wrong. Nordic >> Nordic. Thank you. The Nordic team to Craft Craftsberry Outdoor Center. He does this every year. Um he'll take the small bus and um they will stay there for essentially what they're calling a training camp. three days, two nights an intensive ski camp focusing on conditioning and technique for high school Nordic team athletes. >> Mhm. >> And then um finally, I've been working off of this list of all the things that are

coming up. The coming week is a lot of field trips. I sounds like we're going to the Monshire, we are going to Strawberry Bank, we're going to the Chris McCullof Planetarium, we are going to the Science Center. Um and then we have field days. We have field days at Herald and at Maple. Um and then as Kip said, uh graduation is this Friday >> and Kimble Cabins on tomorrow. >> Yes. >> Art and science field day for the third graders which is separate than >> there's a lot happening. So if you would like to be um have some kind of engagement, there are opportunities, >> but you need fingerprinting. Yes, you need to be fingerprinted at least once every three years if you would like to be a parent, chaperone, or a volunteer in in

our >> So, if you're thinking about partaking in this next year, go ahead and get fingerprinted now. >> Which I can say is a very quick turnaround. >> Yes, it was this year. They they've really loaned it. It doesn't go as quickly for new teachers, but for parent volunteers, can we get my fingerprints from the other school district? >> No, you cannot. You would think that you could um but they the DOE and the department of safety have very specific >> All right. Where am I going to talk today? >> You were going to the Department of >> It's not the main >> You can't You can't use other stuff between It's insane. >> It's not the main DMV building. >> You need to have your prints done, Suzanne. >> If she would like to

volunteer or check >> if she wants to be a field trip person, >> I'll send you the instructions. >> Okay. Thank you. I was actually going to put a pin in that that that whenever we do our next newsletter. >> Yeah. >> A reminder that parents need to get it redone every three years. >> Yeah. >> So, >> yeah. >> Right. >> That snuck up on me. >> It did. Yeah. >> Um it's going to be busy. Uh >> graduation is awesome. Um it should be really good as Amy's first speech as superintendent. >> It should be good. >> I'm not nervous at all. >> Not even a little bit. >> Yeah. I'm terrified. Thank you. Thank you for tell Jonathan Dunlop he had to wear his full Ravenclaw uh PhD regalia. Yeah, >> it's

not a PhD but yeah >> Ravenclaw's PhD. Obviously all Ravenclaws would get PhDs. Yeah, >> you have a PhD now. >> Yeah, right. >> I get an honorary doctorate now. This is awesome. >> Y >> All right, cool. >> They don't just give this. >> Anything else for consent agenda? >> No. Thank you. >> Do we have a motion to accept the consent agenda as presented? So move. They don't have PhD. No. >> Uh any discussion? actually do stuff. >> All right. All those in favor? >> Awesome. All right, guys. Let's hit it with committee. I'm going to pull these up. Okay. Let's start with policy. Anything new happening with you ladies? >> No. >> Got a meeting next week. >> You have a meeting next week. >> Okay. Okay. Let's see if I can

go to that. >> Okay. Cool. Um >> CIA. Um, we had our we have not met since our last meeting and we will not meet again until the fall. So, nothing new to report there. >> Yep. Cool. Okay. CIP, >> we have not met and I we probably set another meeting, but it's not for a while. >> I don't think we meet again until the fall. >> Yeah, I don't think we have until the fall because we're sort of quarterly. >> Yep. Okay. Um, safety and security. I think we already talked about this last time. I meant to talk about this with I will just include a shout out from Mandy's report where she was talking about the multi-tered uh system of support in the guide book. Again, just tying back to what the Homeland

Security um representative said that being able to think about multi-tered supports for students is actually highly highly highly impactful in terms of safety in the schools and being able to help students before they um are are there's an escalation to violence. And so really reinforcing that that is ongoing work for the board. It is ongoing work for the district and we're really thrilled to support it and it was really reassuring to hear that. Um we will need a new safety and security chair um because Carrie is is moving on but we'll pick up that work next year. We already have our first meeting scheduled so that's Jazzy. >> EMC we talked through a few goals for what we would like um uh what we would like um the our goals to be for next year.

Um, just as a quick note, we are thinking that we're going to focus on um, really what's happening in terms of food and sustainability in the cafeteria because that does produce quite a bit of race. We're really excited and proud in terms of the work that we have done and we have a we're going to do a final presentation about our our progress this year uh, in a couple weeks which is good reminder to me. I will say somewhat related, I forgot to mention during my student comments that the greenhouse door is on and we're working on getting the panels on by graduation so that it's not like a mess while everyone's >> Well, we have them. They just need to be put in. So >> amazing. But still, graduation's like >> I couldn't quake

your say one more time, Lucy. I'm sorry. >> The greenhouse door is installed. Y >> so it's has not been installed for three years. Yeah. >> Yeah. And then we're going to think about curriculum. Um, and there was something else, but we'll do a final report uh in two weeks, which is great. >> Yeah. Like attached to a bunch of things. >> Yeah. Um, we're really excited for hopefully the third and final read and approval of our first ever sustainability policy. Um, finance budget. >> So, we're meeting on the on the 15th. >> 15th. Great. Awesome. Uh, wellness. We had our last meeting in May and we're working through um a summer bingo card for students to and thank you Suzanne for putting the draft of the bingo card together um for students to attend

the farmers markets and local grocery stores and things and identify healthy foods. >> Awesome. Great. >> I was we farmers market. So that was like all the foods that are available currently in which was be like your system. >> Yeah. Um and then last but not least, uh the uh the security redesign is almost wrapped on design. We've gone through MEP. We've gone through layouts. We've gone through um structural review. We're really excited. The team has been doing a really good job. I think Jim has been working really closely. Um and we're we're turning the corner. It's going to be a true summer slammer. Um, but it should be a great addition to it should be a really nice uh entrance there. Um, that's it. Um, with that we are at our second public comment

portion of the evening. If you'd like to come on up, please state your name and address and we ask that you keep it to three minutes if possible. Okay, thank you. Um, any other business or old business? All right, guys. We do not have need for a nonpublic this evening. So with that, do we have a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:08 p.m.? >> So moved. >> All those in favor?
