hi casey thanks for your patience okay you are recording and streaming to youtube so you're ready to go and get started jay you get to get this off right yes i do sorry cleaning up cleaning up the from the last meeting all right good evening it's 7 27 and i'm calling to order the regular and reorganization meeting for the dresden school board and the way this will work is i will ask for nominations for chair after which we'll nominate a new chair and once that person is approved i will gladly turn over the reins of this this meeting and uh and hand over a rather lengthy agenda to that person so without further ado do i have any nominations oh i see rick's hand up before we begin i nominate kelly mcconnell oh no i'm
just trying to move us along thanks um according to robert's rules of order we do not need a second on a nomination are there any other nominations all right so i will do a roll call vote on the nomination of kelly mcconnell as chair of the dresden school board beginning with the nominator rick johnson yes kim art minis derek palm yes mcconnell oh definitely yes all right john yes kelly hirsty mercy yes any yes lisa chris diaz tom and yes neil oh dale yes marcella iblasie yes brittany joyce yes congratulations kelly thanks guys we happened to that vote as my husband stepped out so he didn't hear the enthusiastic yes um all right so next order of business i will take an appointment for a vice chair are there any yes tom i nominate neil
o'dell any other thank you tom any other nominations for vice chair seeing none i will do a roll call vote starting with rick johnson yes uh kim yes john what yes kelly hersey percy yes ben keaney yes lisa christie yes tom candy yes neil odell yes the enthusiasm i like to hear marcella you've lost the yes britney joyce yes and i'm so sorry i always forget the things that garrett gets to vote on and doesn't get to vote on here is this one that he votes on or not sure garrett vote just in case i'll just confirm yes okay thank you uh an appointment of secretary rick i will just point out that brittany is now secretary for two boards so probably not a third board it's a lot of signatures right any other nominations
i nominate john hunt all right any other nominations for secretary see none i will take your roll call vote starting with rick johnson yes garrett uh john sure uh yes hunt yes kelly percy yes ben any yes lisa christie s tom candy neil yes marcella yes britney joyce yes okay thank you so much everybody and just for members of the public who may be wondering why the secretary vote is always a bit of a laughing matter it's because we have these wonderful note-takers who help us out with our minutes and so our secretary is largely ceremonial there are a couple required signatures over the course of the year but it is a more entitled than anything else so um congratulations john on on that important role for us uh and moving on to committees um
as we have done in the other uh in the other boards sorry i just lost my screen there we go if you would like to volunteer for any of these committees please let me know i don't see oh just one question there's a note in here about teacher and support staff negotiations i believe we do need that this year correct jamie yes okay that's what i thought so yes because we're doing hannover which means we're also doing dresden okay um and but those are two separate negotiating groups or is that one those are two separate negotiating okay yeah for the hanover board kelly we had two separate committees and uh ben volunteered for one of the two i can't remember which one okay i remember that okay um and so all together we will have
four negotiating committees am i interpreting that correctly two in hanover and two in dresden or no it's the same okay so that's what i thought so total of two okay super thank you for the clarification um i don't think i had any other questions on the board committees um yes if anyone's interested in joining a committee let me know and we will move right along uh agenda review are there items that we need to add or strike from the agenda amy's waving her hand jamie the reason it's confusing sorry there's a little delay there the reason it's confusing is because normally we have one hanover board member and one uh norwich board member on each of the committees gotcha okay thank you at least sometimes there's three people on each one okay super thank you
um jay i did have a question on the agenda are we going to be doing the board survey this evening or are we going to push that to a future meeting is that a push it yes thumbs up or is that a do it thumbs up that was we're pushing the the survey reviews to april okay that's what i thought that i wanted to confirm um yes jay kelly while we're clarifying tonight's business i'm wondering if casey needs some additional um uh peers to join her for her portion of the meeting yes which we are coming up to soon i think we'll probably move them over after the um public addressing the board okay all right and josh is aware of that i think we'll pull them over so thank you um any other agenda
items to change or remove okay moving right on then we will go into public addressing the board i will remind everyone that we're just going to stick with our two minute policy and i'd ask you to address only items that are not already on the agenda since we will get to those when we get to them so are there any members of the public who would like to speak at this time on items not already on the agenda going going all right we will move on then to the report of the hhs council and um as many of you have probably seen council has done a tremendous amount of work um gathering all kinds of data about the mascot and um everything i mean from they've done the history and the financials and everything so
they will be sharing that with us this evening so casey go ahead and take it away and josh if you wouldn't mind moving those um additional presenters over that would be great hi everyone it's nice to see you all together again um i want to introduce riley uderwick and zane schiffman who are the two co-chairs of the mascot subcommittee or mascot committee um which has the six subcommittees i told you about last time i hope some of you or all of you have had the chance to look at the report but hopefully the presentation um can help just give more information also be a chance to ask questions of them so they are going to screen share um the presentation now hello um i'm sorry my name is riley i'm a senior and this is
the presentation that we gave to council last week on the work that our committee's been doing for the last um three and a half four months so in the interest of time we've cut down our original report um so some slides will be skipped over but all of the information is available in the report um so this is our full committee overview um it was to determine the process or place the mascot the six subcommittees um as you heard about last time um this is the dressing process and the first thing we're gonna get into is the finances um so that was done by our financial subcommittee and they looked at all of the different places where the mascot is found on campus from clothes murals websites and they interviewed and talked to a lot
of different people who have positions of authority and their opinions you can see a quote below what they did most importantly was the different financial figures that they found um you can see them here uh one thing that they really want to note is that the cost of changing the mascot could be at zero additional cost if everything is phased out in the normal cycle but there's also a world where it could cost a lot more if we choose to do all of the replacements at once and in addition to that they did research on some different methods uh in which to get more money including potentially working with the burn foundation or having a committee dedicated to fundraising money so the next group we'll be talking about is the history committee who work to
understand the history of the word of both the word marauder in general and our marauder so some general etymology from one of the professors that they talked to there's a couple of slides these are all in the report but most importantly these are the two definitions you've been working off of about how what the marauder came from was a time about colonialism and about you know plundering and going and searching um and these are two more definitions and this is the use over time and it kind of came to peak in 1860 um yeah moving on and these are some of the general themes that we noticed came up throughout all of the professors particularly from the middlebury professor of linguistics um and how mascots are kind of symbols of and values of characters in
history but also how it like this professor asked how would you feel and also and what that means um and then this is another theme which talks about masculine similar violence um and these are some of more professor interviews yeah this is just a quick curse review of the history of the mascot at hhs um early on years we referred to as the red raiders in the maroon uh in 1951 it is believed that joan william harrison harriman designed the mascot although there's no record in either the dresden school board records or town district meeting of this mascot ever being adopted by the school administration in any way there were a couple changes to the mascot in past years i saw once again um we also talked to a member of the le the community
who changed the lebanese mascot here's their whole history and there's a time we're going to skip over that um but one important connection that we found is some merrell's marauders and their connection to hanover um so the merrell's marauders was a group of soldiers um 3 000 volunteer soldiers in world war ii um and one of their commander the commander frank merrill moved to new hampshire in 1948 and became the highway commissioner in 1949 and that's background but the reason this is important is that nancy hayward mitchell who is one of the people we interviewed class of 1951 wrote that they were known to many students and would have been known um to joan harriman when she designed the mascot um we would likely have been known um in addition the remaining meryl's marauders were
given the congressional um gold medal of honor of honor in october of this year um and we've noticed this we just want to note that the the merrell's marauders have come up in multiple conversations with different alums none of these none of these mentions have been prompted by our interviewers although much of whether or not this is these marauders are actually connected to arm rotter is um speculation because we were unable to act we weren't able to find a lot of the documents um from the time the mascot would have been created this is just a historical timeline recapping all of what we just said please take a look at it we'll put the link to this slideshow somewhere so you can all take a look at it um our next committee we're really talking
about is the community outreach committee um and they decided that to interview i mean to survey the richmond middle school students um went ahead and this these were the results so all of the richmond middle school students um they would send out to their parents they need to get permission um there were 200 students given permission 109 responded there are about 300 students in richmond middle school they were given would you want to change the marauder yes no no opinion um and here are those results uh the process for actually replacing the mascot is a two-part process first the current motion being debated in council which reads i moved to remove the marauder as a mascot of hanover high school and the second portion is replacement which was done by the new mascot decisions process
committee they more or less found out what people are interested in and they will be opening up an ability for students to submit ideas and then they will be voted on by the entire school through a new referendum's motion that was passed by council a couple weeks ago um thank you so much representation we really appreciate your time um and we also just want to mention that we our committee was made up of lots of different people of various viewpoints even though the motion that was brought by our committee was to change the mascot that was brought by zain and i not by our whole committee um the information is we'd attempt we tried to make it as unbiased as possible um and while our research is not perfect we looked at multiple different sources
and unless it's been otherwise noted all of our sources have corroborated with each other and been verified by more than one okay yeah thank you guys very much um and there is just so everyone's aware i know the board members have had a chance to look at the um report that was submitted um it is available to everyone in board docs there is a tremendous amount of supporting information as well you can drill down into those survey responses that they shared there's some really great open-ended responses for a lot of different things so just a lot of data available um casey did you have anything else to add to that um no that was it riley and zane did a great job um and we really appreciate all of their leadership on this um and
also just all the people who were involved with this process and we'd love to hear any questions that anyone has great and i will take board number questions tom thanks kelly uh and thanks casey riley and zane it's there is a lot of great work here so i encourage anyone who hasn't had a chance to go to that uh report that was prepared i think uh my main question really is more on the timelining of it and i'm not sure who to direct that to but my understanding from the report that's online is that at your april meeting you're going to take a vote of counsel then if that passes counsel then you go to principal logan from there before the end of this school year and then if principal logan agrees what's the next
step in terms of coming to decision processes with regard to those financial amounts that you focused in on you know most significantly the field and basketball courts seem to be the highest price items there and how would it play out in terms of uh thinking through a timeline on that should everything proceed in the affirmative of uh changing the mask and then before i before sorry to cut you out saying one more question too uh and then where in that timeline would you decide upon another mascot yeah so the process uh if you rather can go back to the slide if you would like but the process is it would be voted on within the council body and if it's passed uh mr logan would sign off on it um as we talked to the
school board chair chairman mcconnell we did get confirmation that this doesn't have to be passed by the school board so it will not come to you directly as a motion that needs to be passed but uh the school board will have to sign off on all of those major expenses as part of the budget for hanover high school the current plan is that those budgets those expenses will just be put in throughout the next 10 years is the current planned rollout such as uniform changes almost all uniforms will be phased out in the next 10 years and the replacement of the turf and the gym floor the gym floor is i believe possibly planned in the next year 10 years and the turf is actually a smaller procedure because it is merely just removing the
mascot in the center which has a figure that riley may be able to more layout um yeah so the sorry i'll just go back um so for in terms of timing um we're all hoping to vote in april but it we're not entirely sure it all depends on how the debate falls out that being said if this were to pass by the end of the year i'm assuming that the new mascot would not go into place until next year and if our committee still does exist in some form or it would receive an extension from council to continue the work that the alternative the other design committee worked on and then in terms of sorry in terms of um finances i'm just going to skip back to my other side um the turf field while
there is the five hundred dollar cost i think it's um it's about half i think um riley knows more yeah she knows more i can't speak that one i see your hand okay so in order to just remove the middle of the turf field it would probably be between 16 and 24 000 depending on whether we just bring it back to solid green or whether in it would include a new mascot that would determine what the cost would be the middle logo in the basketball court could be done when we do our normal resurfacing um for probably i think the figure to just redo the logo because you have to sand all the way down to the base would be an additional 2700 i think it's two 2 60. if we did it at the
same time we do our normal resurfacing so those were the just the spots that we have to change jamie can you remind us because this came up in my conversations with the committee um can you remind us the the timeline the life span of the turf that was just laid down the turf itself it's more like 15 years right 15 to 20 years is that right or am i misremembering that oh you're a mute i don't know if you mean to be on mute sorry my screen went big and i lost my unmute button so the um time frame of a turf field depending on the amount of use and how well you maintain it um runs anywhere from 13 to 15 years okay um and then the basketball court to resurface you know when
you do a full resurface all the way down to the wood that was just done five six years ago right before i started because we actually had a flood where they had to take it all the way down and that's only done every 10 or 12 years okay that's sort of what i thought i didn't want anyone to be too alarmed when they saw the 2029 time frame because that that worried me a little it's shorter than i was anticipating so okay excellent thank you um tom did that answer your questions yeah that was good i wasn't even as interested i mean i'm obviously interested in the dogs i just was wondering too what the council was thinking in terms of the timeline but i think zane answered that with regard to it being a
phasing just a natural phasing out of where we are right now um the mascot though i guess i think riley was saying that they might try to have one another committee would uh come up with one next year if it was voted to [Music] end the marauder um yes it would likely be an extension of this committee and it would be the the process the alternative design committee has laid out for us great yes thank you very much ben i see you're unmuted did you have a question i was pondering it i'm not an attorney but if it's designed by the committee and we sell products is there any sort of trademarking issues that would accrue here depending on what they chose to use um i mean if they use donald duck that would certainly
cause a problem right but i don't i think it would depend what they chose to use well i mean i mean if it was created by a student which would suggest as a possibility of it being zero dollars oh uh jamie normally if a student and or staff member do something on behalf of a school district it becomes the property of the school district you would typically then you would typically just sign a licensing agreement for a perpetual license okay that's why make sure everything is buying the book in that front especially if it's an underage student right yes and and we did talk about how even if a group of students were to create something there would probably be some cost associated with making it you know usable the high resolution imaging and all
all that sort of stuff so there would be some process with that uh other questions for council members okay um do did any members of the public have questions for counsel and i i will just um state that i i have told council as is the case in all of our meetings that um they can feel free to say we don't have the answer to that right now but thank you for your question thank you for your comment um so please don't be surprised if you don't get a response right away because um they may need to take some time to think about it so all right seeing no comments from the public all right we will move on then thank you very very much casey zayn and riley for all of your hard work
and the whole council and we look forward to seeing the next steps thank you and we will move right into the high school principles report good evening um i'd also like to commend riley and zane and casey for their input on the presentation and i'd like to also thank linda adonti the advisor for for counsel um she's been working with them every step of the way and i want to thank her for all the time she puts in also um school-wide i i just want to thank everybody it's been a tough two fridays at hanover high school with our covid um positive cases the first case on march 5th we had 66 students that we had to quarantine along with three staff members those students returned on monday thankfully all the quarantine students their tests
came back negative and then this past friday we had another covet positive student we had 22 students that we had to quarantine and we had two staff members that we had the quarantine they'll be returning to school on the 22nd it's funny with this every situation is different we think that we have it all nailed down the nurses the administration we meet with the teachers that that the student the classes that the student was in and we come up with lists and then the lists grow and it's just it's a lot of work the one piece that that is crucial is the communication um when we had to quarantine the 60-something students two weeks ago i received a few emails about the communication and so we're going to try to ramp that up as we
move along hopefully it's not going to happen again that's i i remain hopeful um but we're working through and again it's it's a it's a group effort it's it's a lot of work and i can't thank everybody enough the staff has been great with with working with those students the counselors are on it um the teachers are communicating with them and the students are being proactive too a lot of the students are reaching out to their teachers letting them know um so it seems to be working um it's not perfect but we're getting through it course requests we're finalizing our course requests right now in fact the departments are going to be working on it tomorrow having scheduling discussions and then i'll be meeting with the coordinators next week just to look at staffing on
april 1st we'll have our tentative teacher assignments and then we'll build our master schedule on the 24th march intensive what we're calling may intensive is is moving right along um they're meeting with the students now the individual instructors for those courses uh they're having group meetings and things that seem to be progressing nicely with that um we're having discussions on the end of the year activities they met today at the kova task force i mean we're vetting everything we're doing through the covert task force in those discussions and then you just heard the council discuss the marauder subcommittee we'll continue that conversation as we move forward um cpp the subcommittee on the decision-making process at hanover high school um we're presenting um to the staff on that next wednesday and we're hopeful that we're going
to have some resolution moving forward with that but that will be coming to the board at some point in time um for that the one policy amendment athletics uh meegan she's in transition right now they finished up everything um with the winter season um you can see that we won four team state championships boys nordic scan girls nordic skiing boys alpine skiing and girls swimming and diving congratulations to all those students and their coaches and you can see the the results from all the other older winter sports right there beneath that spring sports starts practice on the 29th and the competitions begin on april 12th and then she put in some pieces about the the volunteers that that help us out with the teams it takes a lot of people to help us to get
it going when you go to a game at night or you see the volunteers helping out with tickets it goes they help out in every way um so i just want to thank everybody for everything they're doing i'd be happy to answer any questions and thank you thanks very much jim uh are there any questions brittany sorry i'm pressing all of the buttons um to unmute myself um mr logan thank you so much i um this was a great report and it's good to hear that things are going well at the high school um this is a very random comment and um and i i don't know what it's been like um in the high school on a daily basis since our son's been remote learning um but my son ran down uh our stairs
this afternoon and said hey students are starting to come back to school from quarantine and like why are they back um and it struck me as funny um because he heard from a friend and we are all familiar with cdc and covid plan guidelines but i don't know if all of our high schoolers are so it may just be worth a reminder to the student body so that they're not asking each other about their testing and where their health is or where their family's health is at that point that if students are back at school this is the reason why or just a reminder about covid guidelines um so that we're not asking each other hipaa violating uh questions on school grounds i can certainly communicate that with the students okay thank you so much
for what you're doing i appreciate it thank you thanks very much brittany casey um i just want to agree with the previous comment that was made i know that there were people that came back this week and um just among students people were like why are these people back in school i thought they had covered um and so i think just generally as these roles are changing so much a lot of students are kind of unsure what the actual rules are um and that uncertainty makes it so that there's more kind of more of a gossip stream within the school just wondering what's happening with that so um just like having it in the principles weekly or friday updates um just so that people can kind of know and it's not as much of a
mystery so thank you for bringing that up thanks very much casey other questions all right thank you very much principal logan and um principal boyle i apologize it looks like i skipped you in the agenda we usually do high school first so my apologies for that no i'm good going second that's entirely fine i'm going to try to keep it short because i know we've all had long meetings so rms has spent the last year consciously and relentlessly focused on the future on what we could control in our building and on each other's emotional well-being and our buildings connections within the community because of this focus and i know some parents were interested about this as a school we had no commemorations or remembrances this past week choosing instead to recognize all that we have
gained instead of some things that we might have lost during last year um i would be remiss however in this environment not to mention what a year it has been one year ago tomorrow we sat in this board meeting all confused by this thing called zoom trying to figure out what was coming what school would look like how it would all fit together i would just like to acknowledge the incredible work dedication and most importantly faith in each other that has allowed us to provide a unique educational experience to the students of our district the entire community took to heart our call to stay safe be well and take care of each other we learned that wearing masks washing hands chasing changing lessons to build community rather than academic skills and extending grace to those
who struggled were all ways that we could take care of each other we adapted and re-adapted and what our students and families both inside and outside of the building needed but we kept the well-being of our students central to our mission thank you to the board and to the administration and to the community i can't say this enough without the people who have shown the courage to do what was necessary who are on this screen and i think in the audience we wouldn't be able to do what we've done this year so thank you very much uh in terms of building updates this will be rather short it's only been three weeks believe it or not since our last update uh last month we worked on transitions for our eighth graders uh as they move
toward the ninth grade um we're continuing to try to do all these things as sort of a process rather than a this is february this is where you're gonna go so we're engaged in sort of an ongoing dialogue with the high school next week we'll have meetings with all of our parents from both the ray school fifth grade and marrying across sixth grade to sort of see what uh the richmond school will be like we're hopeful that uh by the end of the year or at least in the summer we can have those people in for in-person tours of the building which we haven't done in quite a while but it would be nice to do that um we had our professional development day yesterday and it was a wonderful time to sort of refocus
inside the building um and look at the lessons that we've been teaching the things that we've learned this year that have been brand new we've done a lot of things that are different this year some of which we want to hold on to i think some of which we're happy to let go so we have a number of uh staff members who are going to complain at some point about the calluses that have built up by spraying the desks uh eight times a day um but other than that i think there are some things that we really want to hold on to we've formed and convened our hiring committees we have a fair amount of hiring to do at the middle school next year um and we wanted to make sure that we took this
time to sort of look at what our ideal candidates would look like and to reevaluate what we have been doing to make sure that we're doing what we need to um this takes place especially within our tech position uh josh and i had a long discussion last week about what i think the tech person should be and what he thinks the tech person should be and i'm glad to report that we're mostly on the same page so that's really helpful going forward um that's the extent of our update for right now so until next time we will continue to try to be safe stay well and take care of each other so thank you very much thanks very much tim are there any questions for tim at this point seeing none you know it did
it has occurred to me though as as frustrating as masks and spraying and everything has been my kids at least have not had a single cold knock on wood right a single cold a single flu there are there are some advantages to those to those processes for sure yeah counterintuitively our attendance is through the roof it's way higher than it's ever been before i don't it's just bizarre but it's true all right thank you very much um then we will if there are no questions for tim uh we will move on to sorry no one spot again there we go uh we're skipping the board evaluation survey or pushing that to april so we are on to school calendar jay i believe this is yours yes it is and we have a couple different things
to talk about we hope to bring you account a calendar to actually vote on uh next next time around uh in april and in the meantime we're looking at a 2122 calendar as presented and available on board docs and there are a few things we we talked in i believe it was the hanover meeting about voting day and this coming year it's going to be on march 1st and we began a discussion at that meeting and of course it was in the context of its impact on the elementary school but it's something i think that warrants a little further discussion before we go back to the drawing board and potentially change some dates after the short time i've been here we've had conflicts with a variety of different events on voting day most recently we
had obviously the pandemic and all the concerns about having people from the public come in uh in a prior year we were concerned because there were worries that people were going to use their their rights under new hampshire law to carry guns into the polling place which is antithetical to federal law which i learned oddly is kind of unenforceable so there have been a number of problems with students being in session on the day that we have the public coming here to vote to coming to hanover how to vote so um one suggestion that i had heard was that like many schools we have we make that a non-attendance day so i want to continue that discussion here what you have to say people have had another week or so to think about that and
i think we do need to make some decisions about that and get some guidance before we go back to the drawing board and do a final revision of the calendar any thoughts um one thing that i i'm just noticing that i didn't notice at the hanover meeting i'm not sure why um march 1st would be right on the heels of the february break according to that current calendar which concerns me personally a little less i was i think i made the comment at the hanover meeting that i'm concerned about how choppy march becomes and it is a fairly choppy month with um the the teacher conferences and um other in-service days and whatnot in there um but i'm less concerned if it's on the heels of what is already a vacation week and it's simply
going one day longer that concerns me personally a little bit less i remain concerned about working parents and the impact that breaks have on working parents and that non-attendance days have on working parents jay yep if it would make it any any easier um one of the things we well traditionally we have used days instead of hours to calculate our instructional time during the course of a school year that that builds that actually creates a foundation for our calendar we have the option to start out um counting hours we've done it in the last these this year and the previous year mainly because of covid and because of the impact on the on our regular attendance that the switch over to remote last year caused and some of the the challenges that we had the
beginning of this year if we begin as lebanon does with us doing the hours calculation we we would have more latitude we could still add days at the end for snow days to make up any hours that we would miss but we we could accommodate a few more days and i want to thank tim for bringing that to my attention we typically haven't consulted with lebanon in fact lebanon and many of the districts in the in the region really build our calendars around hartford career and tech centers calendar [Music] especially for our major vacations but but in lebanon's case they actually have students begin uh first week of september next year and they make all their hours and have extra built in and still have the latitude to have some of those days off ben
thanks i want to echo kelly's last point about the working parents i still maintain my concerns that it's just one more day where parents have to take a day off depending on their age or their kid that's not related to a holiday or not related to something else where parents already have the day off so if it could be tied into something pre-existing like you mentioned could it could an in-teacher service day be that day so instead of allotting another day parents have to take off could it be okay we have to have students out of the building okay but then can it be a function where the teachers are still there doing something they'd have to do anyway or something similar thanks ben i know that's a question that had come up at um
at the hanover meeting as well um and i think that you guys are going to go back as a leadership team right jay and and suggestions yeah and we'll absolutely talk about that one ben if if we can kill two birds with one stone we will other questions it was just brought to my attention too that we've got some some errata in the draft calendar i'll remind everyone it is a draft and we'll go back and fix that i think i think we've added several leap years worth of extra days to february so um make sure that that's all cleaned up time for april as well that's one way to get extra days in right other questions on the calendar jay you mentioned we had a couple oh sorry tom go ahead i i was
just gonna ask um jay is a discussion with him we've also discussed with hannover too about just moving the voting site and last year it obviously went to uh i think it was leverone is that something we want to pursue as well or are we just going to say that it's going to be at the school and we just need to work around it um i'm going to ask for jamie to help on this one too because both she and i haven't been in conversations with the town it's a really touchy subject this this past presidential election we were fortunate to be able to use leverone i don't know that we can count on that as a steady polling place it's a pretty steep tradition yeah i'm not sure either i mean the voting's always
been done you know at the high school obviously you know for the school district voting um that's separate from the town voting they don't vote at the same time so i don't know what the good answer for that is i know that if we went to ask dartmouth college about potentially using one of their locations i think i don't even know i hesitate a guess i would imagine they might charge us so that's an additional expense although i'm not sure of that you know so we can inquire the black center is just not big enough it doesn't have enough you know good flow and parking um you know and it still comes down to the fact that the town of hanover doesn't really have a central location that's large enough to accommodate you know what
their needs are i don't have a good answer or history yeah and i'd say the other the other thing that we need to consider too we originally when we were thinking about potentially having that day off we were thinking it would make sense to have it for the entire sau i guess we don't necessarily need to do that we could have the high school students off but i do like ben's idea of potentially having an in-service day reschedule we typically do have a day in in the spring devoted to professional development we could look at that that's a tuesday so that would mean that monday perhaps would be an extension of the the vacation um be odd to have kids come to school on monday and then be off for an in-service day on tuesday
but again we can have that discussion and bring back uh another draft for your consent your consideration in april like schedule wise this year the schedule has been so such an evolution that it may not surprise families too much to have you know a day in and day out when we need to do that um garrett i was just gonna ride on jay's coattails on that one it can maybe be combined with another day off from the other schools and again i haven't really i guess i didn't really pay attention to this until our middle schooler is now in the middle school um but it did it hit me a little odd this year how many days it seems that you know mcs students are in and you know the middle schoolers are off and
the middle schoolers are off and the mcs students are in and i'm thinking the buses are running around you only carry half the kids so you would think maybe we could do this voting day even on you know one day when everyone's off or something like that because there does seem to be a little bit of scheduling mismatch between all the schools just a thought thanks any other comments on the calendar yeah jay garr reminds me i did want to mention too that we have changes to the our existing calendar for the current year and i did put in a message that i sent out to the community yesterday that we've calculated that right now absent any additional snow days jamie we're looking at a last day of june 14th for students and then each
each school or not each school but vermont and new hampshire a little bit different in terms of teacher requirements so we're working through what the last days will be for our support staff and our teachers but it looks like around the 17th will be the last day for staff um and again that's based on the fact that we're counting hours uh we've checked and double checked them uh ran into a mistake last year and and we're uh well poised to not have that happen again this year but it means that we've got very little buffer should we have any more snow days so if that happens we'll we'll change it accordingly and push it out but uh but as it stands now we're looking at june 14th thank you jay was that the other calendar
item that you wanted to point out okay super uh jamie or we just hold school and whoever can make it makes it right that's what they do in canada they used to do it here i'll just i'll just go ahead and say that they used to just cancel the buses and whoever can make it made it but that wasn't fun for the teachers i'll tell you that hey you gonna go on record is campaigning for that one no not at all i got too many people driving over goosebumps that it would be bad yeah all right any other questions for the calendar so hopefully we'll be voting on next year's calendar at next month's meeting so uh keep an eye out for that uh covet update i believe this is going to go to robin
yes the covet situation has been keeping me very busy as you can imagine jim talked about our most recent case last friday we hadn't had one other than these past two fridays since december so i'm holding out for this friday hoping nothing happens um we also have over almost 400 people on our staff signed up for our our vaccination clinic on march 27th now and that's staff from hanover and treason schools so that's working out quite nicely it's at a great time we've had lots of changes in both states regarding covid guidelines as many of you know they've changed the travel guidelines for new hampshire now so that's having an impact on our schools and um we did meet with the kobe committee today and we did begin discussing some of our spring events such
as the musical graduation prom so we're putting together ideas about all of those things potentially being outside i have contacted the town of hanover to get their feedback so once we have that then we'll know more about what can happen this spring and again it's evolving so quickly i feel like any of the decisions that we make now really will change in a week two weeks three weeks from now but i'm happy to answer any questions you might have lisa thanks robin you're welcome yeah um thanks robin i know the past couple weeks have kept you hopping so thank you so much for that um i am i'm just wondering a little bit um at the norwich meeting last week the pto chairs report said that the sixth grade celebration could not take place that
the dinner could not take place and that the dance could not take place um because the kova task force had said that that couldn't happen i happen to have a graduating senior i happen to be one of the volunteers to help with those senior events and i noticed that as far as it looks right now everything is on the everything is on the board for planning as if there's going to be a prom and there's going to be a graduation and there's going to be all these other activities and i just wondered if you could talk a little bit about why the marion cross 6th graders got a very different message than what the seniors parents seem to be receiving and if it's just that new hampshire is more strict than i mean vermont's more
strict than new hampshire i understand that but it just struck me and i i've had a couple other parents ask the same question about why the high school seems to be going full speed ahead and and marion cross has been told no no no yes we had this discussion today because the guidelines in vermont and new hampshire are so different from one another and so there have been many more limitations placed upon the marion cross school than what we are seeing in new hampshire now we have been talking about these things for seniors but honestly i'm not sure that we are going to be able to do them based on the guidelines right now in hanover so we need to see more changes happen for all of those events to occur one of the things
that we had been looking at at marion cross was doing the play outside again because they have looser guidelines for activities like theater but we can't have people travel from new hampshire into vermont so we have to look at all of these nuances related to each of these issues and it's very complicated because it literally is changing on almost a daily basis in both states so i wish i could give definitive answers honestly that's the most difficult thing about this physician and um you know just with the changing guidelines for quarantining for travel in new hampshire that place a lot of stress on our schools but really it's something that we can't control and it makes the teachers uncomfortable and it makes everyone in the schools uncomfortable because we worry about you know more people
contracting covid so i just keep saying hopefully these vaccines happen sooner rather than later and that will help us in the long run thank you thanks robin uh i'm not sure who raised their head first to principal boyle oh okay go to principal logan first okay thank you i just want to be clear that we're not going full speed ahead at the high school we're reviewing our options we're having those discussions with students and um i could tell you that last week we were on a state of new hampshire principles conference call with high schools all around the state to see what their plans are and i think many of the high schools are still in the discussion stages we'll be the first to communicate it with everybody once we nail everything down but i
think it's important that the seniors have input in this conversation um and brainstorm their ideas it's their graduation and you know we're going to try to honor that but at the same time we're going to adhere to everything that we have to adhere to so we plan on meeting with them in a work session on on a wednesday to brainstorm some more ideas and see what we can do and then we'll present it to the task force and and robin will take it from there so thank you thanks jen tim yeah i would just reiterate what robin said and one of the things we did at the covid meeting today was to try to plan ahead uh with the idea that maybe the plans wouldn't come to fruition but if last year showed us nothing
it was the trying to plan everything within three weeks makes it a little bit more difficult so trying to come up with a plan that we could implement if it comes forward and i will say too that the uh totally understandable and i in some ways i'm very sympathetic but the the cross state uh school district becomes very difficult especially if you have uh teachers who teach in new hampshire and live in vermont so they're basically living under two sets of rules which don't seem to really make any sense toward each other so um i think everybody's sort of doing the best we can and robin's done a great job in calming everybody down because every time there's a change everybody gets a little bit almost not quite as panicked as we were in august
but you can feel the energy level raising every time there's a change uh in one of the uh in one of the state capitals so um i think it's a it's a really good thing that we've kept this going all year and i'm happy that we've sort of stayed the course and have been pretty consistent with it thanks tim jay i want to urge patients too if you think back to last spring i remember working with the the committees that were working on graduation and so forth like right up till the events everything was in flux and like robin said things change very quickly vermont is sort of on a relaxing kick right now and in vermont we really don't move until we get guidance in writing from secretary french and um he's been very
kind with us in allowing us to defer to new hampshire regulations on most things uh but they are very careful when it comes to things like um large groups and that that sort of stuff so um we'll keep watching the guidance we'll be all i mean at our principals meetings at our superintendent's meetings these these are hot topics and they will get hotter as the weeks progress and we'll have information and we'll like um just as jim said we'll let you know as soon as we know great thank you very much everyone uh are there other questions for robin on the covet update robin thank you so much for all of the work that you're doing into the whole committee um the fact that it lands on a friday means that it impacts your weekend
too so and this this time i think it was actually a saturday morning right so i was out on the ski slopes well thank you very very much you guys for for giving up your weekends to keep us all safe we really appreciate it all right moving on to business requiring action are there any comments on the expenditures or the minutes seeing none i will take a motion to approve rick move to approve items b c and d by consent is there a second kim thank you and a roll call vote starting with kim yes brittany joyce yes kelly percy yes john hunt yes rick johnson yes tom candon neil delius ben keaney yes marcella lassie yes and lisa christie yes and mcconnell yes excellent thank you everyone uh committee reports john do you have
anything to share with us i see you in our agenda tonight is that a pullover i do no i do we we did have a meeting since um since our last dresden meeting um and to let folks know that we do have another meeting next thursday the 25th at 8 15 a.m um but to give kind of a brief update we um a lot of our conversation focused around fundraising uh more specifically booster clubs um and larger item fundraising and kind of what that looks like moving forward towards you know potential major projects someday or facilities and and trying to get a really good handle on everything that in the world of fundraising for um public schools and one of the the big items that we wanted to bring back to the board was um
the discussion on uh regarding policy around fundraising um for our schools and you know kind of what the policies are around that um and you know how the board feels in terms of allowing um this group to ex the committee to explore um potential fundraising avenues um and i i'm probably not as prepared to explain this as well as i should be but i think that's kind of the gist of it you know making sure we have the blessing of the board to continue to research um fundraising proposals whether it's through friends of athletics programs or you know kind of looking at our booster programs in the way they currently exist so i think i'm kind of just looking for a head nod from the board to approach the policy committee to help us look
at the policies that potentially could affect this and i think i do see tim on here and i know he was heavily involved in this and then he's actually been great about um kind of drafting a proposal for kind of what the program might look like um and that is in board docs under our in in our minutes um from our last meeting um but it you know tim if you have anything to add i think you know just getting an idea from the board if there's a taste for us to discuss this yeah i i think the idea came from it it sort of came out of a couple of different ideas one of which was the numerous booster clubs that um exist um within athletics um that do raise some sort of questions
i think megan has brought them up very well about equity and you know some teams get a lot of money from outside sources and some get none um which seems a little odd but then also um is there a way to sort of more streamline that process and help in the budgetary planning process in that there are always not always but there seem to be a number of large ticket items surrounding athletics that come up on a regular basis whether it be the track or the field or refurbishing football equipment etc and would there be a way to sort of create a fundraising body around the friends of hanover athletics writ large um that would help with that sort of budgetary planning process and fill in some of the the gaps that seem to come
about every year in a more equitable way sort of equitable and centrally planned way um so it wouldn't be just you know whomever had the parents who were the most organized that year got new uniforms and somebody else didn't um so and and to say also to sort of ask megan to come up with some sort of a plan whereby things would be more equitably funded on a regular basis without it having to go through the budgetary process which i think having just gone through it all of us know can be kind of an up and down um process a lot of it not having to do with the school at all right so if something happens somewhere else tax rates can go up tax rates can go down um so if there was a
way that we could do this but we wanted to make sure that that would be something that people would be willing to at least talk about before we went forward the plan is honestly based on um athletic programs at division one collegiate institutions that are almost all supplemented by outside funding sources which are raised outside of the institution but controlled by the institution itself it's something that's a kind of a weird uh synchronous relationship but it exists almost everywhere so we wanted to put that out there as something that might be possible um to be perfectly honest that we haven't done a whole lot of outreach to see if there are people willing to give money we think there are but other than that we don't have a whole lot of research going forward i
think that covered most of it i think i think generally it's more just um is there is there approval from the board for this committee to go forward with this research in these discussions um obviously understanding there would be no decisions made without um coming back to the board i i personally i'm looking around and i'm seeing some yeses it sounds like it may need to be a discussion a broader discussion at some point once you guys get to that point but i think this sounds like a good first step um and i guess i would just add and i'm kind of looking at kim it seems like this she loves when i say her name like that out of the blue um i think this needs to also happen kind of in conjunction with
thinking about the budget process as well and i know that's something that your committee and meegan more generally is looking at sort of how that budgeting process happens and you know should helmets for the football team be included in that or is that an individual or a booster expense and how all that kind of comes down seems like something that we may want to work towards getting a handle on as a full board at some point too so thank you guys i know you have a lot to tackle in that committee you could probably meet every day and still not get through it as fast as we'd all love to do right but thank you so much for that work all right uh other committees um i did just want to note that dan rockmore
was our csdc central staff development committee representative and so we will need a new liaison for that so if that is something that interests someone that is a committee that i believe looks at proposals for sabbaticals proposals for um help me here guys proposals for funding um enrichment grants enrichment grants yes um so it's kind of a fun committee i think because you get to see all the wonderful work that our staff is doing outside of their um day-to-day teaching jobs so uh a little plug for that one any other reports from committees kelly yeah i'm just i wanted to give a brief update on the um harvard area career and tech center we had a meeting last week and there were just a couple of um of highlights i wanted to raise um number
one their enrollment um applications are significantly down from last year and they were they've been um nervous about that they've consequently changed their recruiting process from originally going families and then doing community advertising they're now reaching out directly to families um that was one main point that that arose um the direct family outreach they're hoping will um give them a boost for the um the turnout in the fall even though the the current application process hasn't um submitted as many as they had hoped um the other point that was um that seems quite relevant to us is that they are um doug heavysides noted that their transcripts from the h actc include far more detailed information than a lot of the transcripts from the sending schools and so they're going to be reaching out to
the sending schools um certainly to ours to talk about how what they include um might be either pared down or what our data includes might be beefed up so that theirs is more in line but those are the highlights from that meeting thank you thanks kelly and it occurs to me that i did not see the tech center on our committee's list or our liaisons list for dresden but it does fall under dresden so we just need to make a note of that for ryan to maybe add that for future reference thank you kim kind of on that note and i probably should have brought up at committees is the high school our council liaison if we want to include that as well yes definitely and rick i think you were the council liaison at
one point i still am you still are okay um great so you can let me know if you want to keep doing that if you want to pass that off um i know i've done that one in the past and it is again a wonderful opportunity to see what is going on in that in that group they run a very well-oiled meeting as you can tell from how they present themselves here so all right any other committees moving on then to the report of chair i have nothing else to report at this time um lots lots going on lots going on at the state level so um nhsba i am i guess officially the liaison for that too there's just a lot of bills going through i've kind of gotten to the point where i
sit down in the morning and look at the paper and then look at what bills are coming up this week so um just a reminder to everyone that you can log your opinions um for board members you would enter yourself as an elected official and speaking uh for yourself unless we have taken a vote so on hb 544 should there be an opportunity to state your position on that you can now state your position as representing the uh position of the board for that one um but please uh keep an eye there's lots of ed related bills coming through uh and i'll turn over to jay thanks kelly i've got a few things to share um the the first one is just kind of addressing this whole issue of the board taking stances on legislation
i think and i hate to burden the policy committee but either the policy committee or a newly constituted committee could be formed or policy could be tasked with the idea of like reviewing um legislative proposals we get notices and summaries from both nhsba the school boards association and the superintendent's association i'm sure the principals get them from the principal's association urging us to take stances on everything that comes down the pike and just today i received a request from carl ladd from the new hampshire school administrators association to oppose house bill 609 which is about something called innovation schools the day before that another reminder to weigh in on uh senate bill 130 which is one of several voucher bills that are out there and um and i'm sure you as board members are solicited
the same way and and many of these things do have a real real potential impact on our work in public schools so it's tough to keep up with and we don't necessarily have a big stake in every piece of legislation that's proposed but some we do and it would be really helpful if we had maybe a small group of folks who who would take that on um i guess i would look to ben as the chair of the policy committee to to think about um if that's something that we could handle given the pretty big task we've got just managing our existing policy go ahead yeah i would say that is a that's a big ask given what the policy committee currently does that said i do think it makes somewhat intuitive sense i would
think that the current if we were to go down that road i would first envision that our representative to the nhsba which i think is currently kelly mcconnell would kind of obviously would be involved in that as well so whether like that role would then become part of policy or that person would work with policy or or what because i also can see like while what we did tonight and last week was extremely important there is a real time concern if you go down the rabbit hole of going through every single bill and um so i think perhaps looking at a policy to start with in terms of like how involved should we make a policy of when the board should step in or not um but that can be a a hard tight rope
to walk sure i'm happy to bring up the opponent policy i think it'd be good discussion so um that was that was one thing that's been taking up a considerable amount of my time lately um is sort of uh doing the background work on these various bills and listening to folks that contact my office to weigh in as well um and and i myself will often log in to register my opinions on these individually so um another thing i wanted to share that i think is maybe one of the most important things i'll talk about um for quite some time is i i was i was able to sit in on an iep meeting um last week and in the same day i had a meeting at the request of some parents who wanted to
talk to me about some issues they were having and i won't go into the details of either of those those meetings other than to say that um it's it's easy for us to get caught up in these sort of abstract conversations about equity in fact about diversity equity and inclusion and it's another thing to to um actually be in situations where it's time to apply those principles and in in both of the meetings that i had there were occasions for me to sit back and think okay first of all we're the big bureaucracy and we've got parents that i'm sure feel intimidated since i've sat in their their seat before sitting in an iep meeting with a bunch of experts um with with only their best interest for their child on their side and and
this bunch of folks who possess all the knowledge and all the power over their child on the other side of the table or on the zoom screen and i was really sensitive to that that dynamic in that meeting and i really felt that that uh we we needed to listen to them as you know they are experts on their child um and i think that when we push further into this work and start to actually apply it that we need to be thinking that it's this is not just awareness about differences about about race about gender issues it's also people who have disabilities it's um to me it's it's anyone who's on the um maybe the lesser end of that power dynamic that exists whenever you're dealing with with an institution right um and uh
and and for us where we don't have a whole lot of racial diversity um we do have a lot of diversity in this in this system and there are a lot of people that aren't heard and the second meeting i had was with a family who who brought back up this notion of the the kid in the middle and and it's maybe i don't know if ironic is the right word but um when we're talking about inclusion one of the issues that we need to deal with and i've heard this articulated by so many parents who aren't getting together and comparing notes that one of our biggest opportunities to improve inclusion in our district is those kids in the middle and normally we're looking if we're looking at a normal distribution we're looking at the
tails of that curve right to to make sure that we're including all those folks and treating them fairly but i'm continually faced with questions situations complaints about that middle and maybe it's because we're in an exceptional area where normal distributions don't exist whether it's income or educational attainment or s.a.t scores whatever you want to call it um i think we really have to be mindful of having as inclusive a definition of inclusive as we can and there's real work to be done there and i'm excited to to continue pursuing it last and certainly not not the least significant i want to take this time publicly to acknowledge the great work that i think jim logan has done this year in his role as interim principal at hanover high school [Music] jim took almost one of
those extremely dangerous missions that i think about in the military where it's unlikely that you might come back i think of the uh the bombing sorties where the the old b-17s come back with holes in the wings and smoke coming out of the engine and barely landed on on broken landing gear um we started this year with such uncertainty in a building that was in the middle of a leadership transition jim agreed to be the interim principal with about a week to prepare if that and has absolutely done a phenomenal job given that and um i just want to thank him in front of everybody because he's done a great job given the task he was given and uh in the same breath i want to say that jim has informed me and and the
staff that um he intends to devote his time next year to his family and and won't be uh sticking around in that role next year and so we are continuing to move forward with our principal search process and um and jim i i can only thank you and and uh just to really appreciate all that you've done uh your grace in a really difficult position and um and really wish you well too and i know we still got a lot more work to do together so i don't want you to think that this means put your feet up by any stretch but uh thank you now and thank you um you know hanover high school is a great place it's got great students it's got a great staff and it's a great school community um
i certainly learn a lot i'm gonna i'm gonna miss it um but it's in good hands so thank you thank you for all your support sure and uh with that um just to let folks know we we are pursuing um a search and it's a tricky time to be doing a search um in fact i was talking to robin who said that normally she'd have over 100 applicants for her position that she vacated in lexington and they've got about 20. right now we we have a very small candidate pool and so we've extended our advertising we've broadened the reach of our advertising we're seeking all sorts of candidates we're going out to organizations that that are representing individuals who are typically not our applicants here in the upper valley and we're going to convene the
team to begin thinking about how we're going to process the applicants that we already have and how we might um come up with options for what we're going to do for for leadership for the coming year and uh that's dropping that heavy one out there for everyone to think about um that concludes my report i'm happy to answer any questions thanks jay a meaty report for sure are there any questions for jay all right i think everyone oh i see one garrett i was thinking so how do we make sure that we get the as far as the advertising for the principal out broadly just beyond i mean i think it's definitely something that you know is worth spending a little bit of money on to to get that advertising out there because i i
understand that you know it's there's not a lot of you know you're what you just said about the lack of of applicants in various positions but you know there's also a lot of people still moving um and i know if the property and whatnot says anything about this area still you know there's a lot of people trying that want to come to this area and leave you know make a lifestyle change i'm just wondering how we make sure that we get that out there and because it could be really interesting if you bring someone in from you know far away as well just to you know a whole new perspective on our school right and maybe we already do that well so be helpful for me to explain what we do what we are doing
we we um we advertise and we are advertising nationally internationally actually and um i've entered i've um placed an ad through our we have a a program that actually uses school spring which is a service that is used very widely especially in new england and then it the posting that we put on school spring is picked up um by web crawlers by any number of monster.com and all the other uh indeed all the other job search sites but uh we also um are advertising in the national association of um secondary school secondary school principals and ed week top school jobs is is the one i mean that's how i found this job um and uh we had a significant number of candidates the first time around much greater number of candidates the first time around
than we did this time and i really think there's a covet effect um there are some folks who've posited that that um people are intimidated by the the prospect of being a principal at hanover high um i don't know how how you know outside of our immediate area that's a factor but i guess it could be the only other thing we haven't done that some districts do and some private schools do is to employ a search firm for this this level of a job and um many of the places where we're advertising are the same places you'll see the advert advertisements for hazard young and some of the other education search companies but what you get with one of those is a little more of the head hunting aspect of it so if if we
end up in an interim situation again and we and we reopened the search post covid we may want to consider doing that all right thanks i figured jay you have your have it covered as you always do but i do think if we need to get to that point we should spend that little bit extra money because this is something that's super important and it it you know it lasts right so it's gonna you know whoever we find we want someone here for a while absolutely thanks garrett um and jay i i have heard some questions i know you're still trying to figure out the committee and such but um there will be student involvement in the committee right we plan to have two students we have we were hoping to have one student from
council and then another student from the student body at large and we're we're going to be pulling together an organizational meeting very quickly um and we may not have our students chosen for that it's we we want to make sure that we build the process and make sure that we're not putting students in an awkward position for some of the conversations that occur in that process and and also to um safeguard the applicants as well in terms of issues that sometimes arise especially with internal candidates super thank you all right we will move on to jamie teague thanks jay i'm hoping that someday in my last year here maybe i can go earlier than later i always have to go last and everybody's tired you saved the best for last jamie oh yeah sure okay
thanks um so this is kind of our in between month right we're just coming off the high of the budget season hopefully when everything passes and we're not quite yet ready to tell you what the end of the year looks like so we've been working with the principals and the bookkeepers to get all the remaining funds that they may need for this fisca for this school year fully encumbered while we normally give them the deadline of the friday before april break i think it's really important this year and i'll be sending out an email after discussions today to try to get all those funds fully encumbered by march 30th and i say that because i've got a bunch of transfer requests coming in uh that for the most part unless it's to purchase textbooks um
or other in-class materials we're holding off on looking at we need to make sure that we meet our commitments for the next fiscal year so by the april meeting we should have a really good idea of what our end of year projections will look like barring any unforeseen emergency situations along with the third quarter reports which will encompass the month of march the audit i'm telling you right now will be finalized for dresden and added for discussion um there were a few uh questionnaires and things that were you know they're holding it hostage the audit's done they just don't have all the little subsidiary pieces in order to release it okay um but i'm pretty sure they have them now so we're also working on finalizing the uh rfp request for proposals for the upcoming
technology project uh josh has sent that over to me for review to a bunch of us for review my section of the review would be to make sure that you know we're complying with all the requirements of the laws and liability and risk we're getting ready to put out an rfp for the financing as well i really want to try to have an idea of what the numbers look like before we go out to the banks although we don't have to have you know solid numbers we can go with what was in the warrant articles i've also been working with richmond middle school and a couple of their fundraising projects that they want to embark on one they already embarked on but um you know as covid hit you kind of change the balance of
numbers and we're finding that in order to finish the plans for our outdoor classroom and put out an rfp for that as well we may need to do a little bit of fundraising as you know materials are way up right now due to many different reasons we'll also be meeting we'll we meaning me and tony i think will be meeting with the sustainable hanover crew to discuss upcoming projects and goals whereby they will want to maybe help us for the hanover high school richmond middle school to procure potential grant funds that may be coming out for net zero initiatives in the near future uh you'll recall those of you who've been on the board forever we looked at some potential solar projects for richmond middle school back about three years ago i think we held
off due to the need to update you know some infrastructure roofing things of those nature um so it'll be good to have conversations with them to see you know what kind of help they may be able to lend us with regards to you know working through some of those projects whereby the savings could potentially fund the project itself um what else is going on the good thing to note bus monitors bus drivers are also included in the um scheduled vaccination for all of the new hampshire schools for march 27th up at dhmc i believe is where it will be held so they were very excited some of the drivers have already you know gotten theirs because they were able to be in the first round food service is plugging along um there has been um
has there been changes no no changes for you guys at dresden uh tony and i did walk the whole dresden fields property this morning i have to tell you was a bit chilly out there in the woods at 9am this morning i think i'm still a little bit frostbitten but that's okay it was good exercise we're taking a look at you know what's available over there potentially to help out our sister district and maybe move forward with the portion of that dresden fields softball field project that was not completed right as i got here five years ago which was the safety pavilion um so we took a look at the the lands out there um and i must say if you haven't ever walked through and around and out the trails at the dresden fields
property in norwich it's very interesting um and it was very enjoyable i hadn't done that so that's what we've been doing moving forward with maintenance projects and um yeah hopefully going to make it better for everybody thanks jamie are there questions for jamie this evening all right looks like you're off the hook thank you jamie you picked the wrong morning by the way it's supposed to be a lot warmer the rest of the week well so there i um it's probably better to go when the ground's frozen than when it's you know thawing out yeah really mucky out there otherwise though and i have to report that even though we forgot to bring our creepers nobody wiped out so that was good good you could have led with that all right thanks jamie uh we
