with the current status of changes between resignations and hires and things do you have a feel as whether we are higher or lower than budgeted on salaries for next year I would say it's probably about the yeah it's yeah so no no big switch no no we have some veteran staff members coming on board uh but we're balanced that nicely with uh candidates who are new to the profession what came out as the uh Top Choice in the interview process great thank you so I just wanted to say that Trevor Duval sent us a really lovely email um he sent it to the superintendent but asked it to be shared to the board I think I sent it to all the board members um Tim has pretty much summarized um the trip that the We
the People um kids went on and that's what Trevor did so I'm not going to read the whole email but it was a lovely email kind of just kind of laying out what the kids did on the We the People trip which Tim sumarized in his principal's report so if the public wants to read that they can see that um but it was lovely is the letter publishable sense that the public can have access to it I don't know I mean I can read it if you feel like it's not so much getting it but I I think this is the kind of good news that so I'll read it how about I read it and that way it can go in the minutes because once I read it then I can send it to
Dawn and she can put it in the minutes okay so after five long days of competing and sightseeing and lots of walking the students are heading home the level of knowledge that these young men and women demonstrated this past weekend was truly remarkable while we did not place or win any best unit awards their Poise articulation and knowledge were on full display and wow I do wish you all could have seen it these are not just my words but words from parents alumni and other guests that got to witness them compete they also got to explore many of the sites in DC and the surrounding areas a Civil War battlefield Bull Run man man Manasses an example of the ultimate lesson of what happens when government fails monuments to Great individuals and movements that shaped
our nation Washington Jefferson Jackson Lincoln Franklin and elanar Roosevelt MLK Lafayette memoral Memorial to events great and tragic that shaped our national identity and remind us of the importance of good governance and the character of its people Arlington National zeter Marine Corps e Memorial which I said wrong World War II World War I Korea and Vietnam memorials to the things we should never ever forget the Holocaust Museum Pentagon 91 911 memorial places that preserved our history for future generations to see and discover us Botanical Gardens library of con Congress the National Archives after all a government class can't do can't go to DC without seeing the Declaration of Independence the Constitution or the Bill of Rights right and finally to the seats of the three branches themselves from being outside of the Supreme Court as
they hear arguments on a case that can impact the next several years way too crowded to get in unfortunately to the halls of Congress watching members of the House debate legislation and just what the rules of Congress are and seeing well-known Senators conferring on the floor of the Senate to finally touring the west wing and peering into the Oval Office itself with all of this going on many of these students also attempted to to make time to study for other exams do homework and continue to do the things that make them such successful students I feel truly lucky to have gotten to spend this time with such a great group Trevor Deval so for sharing that with us yeah no thank you jtim so that will I will forward the email on to Dawn so
that she can put it in the minutes so that if folks want to read it from home they'll be able to see it from the minutes thank you that way it's there um and then finally just in terms of um us I do have committee work that I want wanted to assign to us um Tom you pointed out that we don't need to approve it so I thought I would just do it during correspondence is that okay or should I wait and do it during deliber deliberations it's interesting Don included something in the U outline that it should be deliberate says that we have a policy that says that that they do get um all right nominated and subject to Bo so we'll do it during deliberations then iust better than m on to so
that's great so that's it that's all I oh and one other thing sorry um our scheduled meeting date for June is on the same day as well it's not our I think we were scheduled for June 12th but Gina texted me and said are we June 12th or June 19th June 19th is the 3D um Wednesday Wednesday so I thought we were June 19th but then I saw on another calendar we were June 12th what does the board have what are you you have it as the 19th so we have it on the calendar now the SAU wide calendar is the 19th if it's on the 19th it means that we won't have both of both of our our superintendent assistant superintendent we will just have one of them but that's fine um because Brook
line is also on the 19th um so but I didn't know what you guys had scheduled so I wanted to be sure that we were all okay with the 19th I have the 19th down but okay is everybody go with the 19th gentlemen I the you have the 19th the 19th okay so we're going with the 19th okay I'm all done with all my business now I have to move on um approval of minutes okay I'm just like all right so uh at the we have to approve the minutes from April 10th um so I have one Amendment page 12 line 33 answer is following it so I need a motion to accept as amended the um Regular public minutes moved by Tom second second by Rob um any questions or comments okay all those
in favor that would be five I wasn't here right so I got you five any NOS any extensions one so it's 51 motion carries and then I have um non-public minutes there's no there's no um amendments so I just need a motion to accept as written moveed by Tom and I need a second second by Beth um so I need any comments all those in favor I've got five any opposed any abstentions and one so 51 motion carries and then I have minutes from the public hearing oh do we have a public hearing that day in theory mhm we did okay so we have a motion to accept as written the minutes from the public hearing I need a motion to accept as written the minutes from the public hearing mooved by chrisa second by
Rob all those in favor five any extensions Cindy zero 5 Z1 motion carries okay moving on to public input at this point I will open the floor for public input um residents who would like to speak are asked to State their name and address for the record um we we ask that you focus um public inut on items on the agenda um this is not a period That's intended to be for back and forth but rather an opportunity for the board to hear for from residents before acting on agenda items we will open the floor for public input and then um we will keep the floor open for a half an hour if someone were to come in during that half an hour we may ask them to speak at a later time um but
we will once the floor is closed then they won't be able to speak um so I'm opening the fourth for public input at 7:03 okay all right so the floor is open for public input but we're going to move on with our board agenda you guys aren't speaking right you good okay just here all right principal reports so we'll move to the Athletics report yep I'll do that tonight first who's doing that do my best uh start with with the HB campus cleanup uh the baseball and softball team participated in the cleanup on Saturday May 4th uh Cavalier Court back parking lot of the high school uh as well as surrounding areas for the focus uh thank you to the HB athletic booster club uh for supporting this initiative or sorry the HB helps initiative
uh hbhs Athletics uh seasons are well underway uh currently all high school teams wow sound like they're on track uh to have secure a spot in the tournament at the end of the season uh and if things stay on track several of them will host the first round boys and girls tennis both sit in fifth and sixth respectively uh in the division two uh in division two boys volleyball continues to remain one of the top teams in the State uh one loss of the record to date girls lacrosse team sits in third place having recently secured a win over division one exitor while the boys team looks to continue to build off last year's growth softball team is currently in a three-way tie for fifth place and while the baseball team got off to a
slow start working on uh working their way up the standings uh with each game played the outdoor track team has gotten off to a hot start as well with several athletes earning first place spots and meets and breaking several long-standing school records our unified track team had a great first meet in nashaa South and looks forward to hosting their own meet on Tuesday May 14th which was yesterday and it sounds like it was a great event great uh Middle School update uh baseball teams look to defend sorry the baseball team looks to defend their Championship from last year they're still undefeated this year uh our softball team continues to improve pulling off victory over West Running Brook uh the other day uh lacrosse teams have had a handful of games so far uh each School
each team is very competitive uh and looks to make the tournament for Tri County this uh end of the year uh but uh last but not least the outdoor track team 91 student athletes involved this year uh has been hard at work and looks forward to hosting their own meet on May 22nd uh end of the year sports awards for the high school are June 10th at 6 PM in the auditorium looking forward to fun and celebratory night for our seniors especially uh and possibly some state championships and runner-up teams uh to cap off a great year of hbhs Athletics uh some recent coach or a recent coaching hire High School Boys Tennis assistant coach James torpe and there looks like there are some openings at the high school and one at the middle school
for next year thank you thanks so much yep and I'll just go right into my principal's report uh so we went to Washington DC and so far Turf for 2 we went down with 175 and came back with 175 that is awesome for the win for not 176 that not things to think about today all sorts of different changes but um it it was a great trip uh I think just a couple of highlights are mentioned in there but uh the the uh refling ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier uh we got to participate again four of our students and it just really is uh a really powerful experience for our students we actually had um a relative of one of our eighth grade students meet us there and it was a really
great uh kind of debrief after we all left the national Arington Cemetery uh he walked back with us and our students just had a lot of questions and uh it was a nice uh addition to the trip uh but overall the students did a really great job continue to hear amazing remarks about how well behaved they are respectful at all times um and it really is just such a every year things get busy in the spring and this is just a great way to end the year with our eighth graders um and we wish them the best next year at the high school or wherever uh they end up next year uh the greenhouse uh continues to make uh gains thanks to uh CLA delay our seventh grade science teacher kathern Ransom student services administrator
and Danielle Barby our nurse um and we'd like to give Rick Hardy a a really big shout out he's been unbelievably helpful as well as the Rotary Club in supporting um getting the greenhouse kind of back up and that is a picture from just last week um and I don't know if you guys remember three years ago when I first came on it was kind of a bike storage just because of covid and all the other uh things that we were all going through um but it really is starting to make uh real progress and Claire delay our seventh grade science teacher has some really great plans to get into the seventh grade uh science curriculum in classrooms as well as rock um but again I really can't thank Rick Hardy enough um I've just
recently met him and he's a really great uh resource for us but just a great Community member and very involved he's he's here frequently now helping with the update uh to the greenhouse so thank you to rck hardi uh our guest speaker who was a holocaust Survivor kotti Preston um another great powerful experience for our both seventh and eighth grade students um she's an 85-year-old uh pretty pretty cool lady uh I was telling Tim about her uh she just had a really unique story to her survival um and just different experiences uh when she was living through the Holocaust and our students did an amazing job being extremely respectful during that presentation um and some students hung around after school just to talk a little bit further with kti um and we hope to bring
her back if not next year the year after uh I didn't put this in the board report but I did want to mention the renovation if you had not had a chance to Senate uh see the uh main office uh I just really want to thank Andy and Gina our maintenance uh crew as well uh just for for making that upgrade or update renovation over April vacation it happened in three or four days um it mirrors the high school and I think the most important thing is the school safety has really uh improved and increased with that renovation um it's also nice because now in the co-op I think not that it's hard but when you go into a school new school it's pretty much the same entrance as the high school and uh makes
things easier for parents to understand procedures when entering the building a few shout outs to our band and chorus performances there's been uh quite a few over the last month or so um not just in the building but outside of the building and these are the students um who are putting in quite a bit of extra time for these honor band honor chorus um in different recital throughout the state um so just wanted to give them a big shout out and thank you uh Nancy Spencer and Liz null for all their extra work um with our our Bandon core students as well I have included my hbms course request numbers for next year and average projections um I always kind of make a joke with Tim that this is a little bit quicker for me
just because it is pretty generic dry how about before we do that we'll just have any comments or questions on the um on the report itself and then we'll move on to the numbers because maybe people want to dig into your numbers so um are there any comments or question questions on the principal's report before we talk about class sizes yes Tom uh two items on the greenhouse update yep I I don't know the details of what you're doing or who's doing it but it sounds like there's some some new technology introduction possible I was wondering if there's any opportunity to open it up to students in the co-op I'm thinking maybe some like robot robotics kids or something who might want to plug in and learn it's got if they're doing like programming of
controllers or something it might leverage off some of the stuff that kids are doing in robotics or or or elsewhere um so I just wanted to put down the radar maybe there's a chance whether it's happening during the school year or over the summerun and the I think that's pretty much it my I have a question so the guest speaker have you been having guest speakers regularly I mean this is great I just didn't know uh we had one in the fall uh the gentleman who was the boxer uh okay kindness through boxing uh we've had this guest speaker uh we had another guest speaker I think in one of my board reports uh from Sudan Refugee yes yes I've just noticed that is that just a new initiative is that um I think we're
trying to find ways to uh continue on with the diversity equity and inclusion and bring in different people with different backgrounds so that is something that we've tried to do a little bit more of this year that's great that's awesome that's lovely and then I wanted to make take a moment to just I'm not going to say all these kids' names but to you know I hope if there's anybody out there in the public that they'll take them minute to look at um how many kids are on this list um in terms of getting honors um in terms of the band and chorus performances and congratulations to all of them that's great remind second was I know previous uh meeting we had some conversations about band and the numbers and stuff um we it sounds
like we've got some tremendous perform was here at the middle school has there been an opportunity for them to get introd any they get get introduced to the high school prematurely yeah so um Mr Rogers has come down here the last a couple of years uh with his students uh performed and also had an opportunity to Q&A with classes down in an effort to recruit yeah you use that word I'm even maybe I don't know if if there's any chance for any of them to go up to the high school so they do the Summer band camp before school starts in August every year so that's a k should say K12 that's a u elementary middle and high school initiative that um they started a couple years back in the same effort so they get
to play with the high school kids y we actually at our uh concerts we do usually have students that come down to support uh for a number of different Reasons I'm thinking going the other way I know you are but it is still an opportunity that they come down and and still somewhat recruit but build that connection with uh incoming students to the high school it's close it's great to see so many so many kids involved at such a high level that's great so I think the way I want to structure this tonight is to do um Grace's report Tim's Tim's principal's report and then we'll talk about class sizes that make sense I forget to mention just during the DC week uh we did have day trips for students that weren't able to attend
uh and those were also great trips for our students uh the last day they got to go to Parker's Maple Barn in the morning and then uh went to another uh Monument or Memorial that day so just wanted to throw that we back they came back so and I just wanted to extend my thank you to the to the chaperons of both of all those Endeavors because I have chaperoned a bunch of students for 27 days 24 hours and um slept on the floor of a high school and um yeah so I get it it's really a lot of work so I really appreciate it thank you so Grace first of all um congratulations to you I hear you're headed to South Carolina so for college Charleston good for you um and I wanted to
take a minute to thank you for your efforts this year coming and attending all of our meetings and giving us great reports we really app appreciate it I assume you're not going to be here at our June 19th meeting because you'll be you'll be you will be at graduation on the 8th I hope to see you there so um so congratulations and thank you for your time and service and we would love to hear your final report and then you are welcome to stay for our long meeting or go home and I don't know maybe relax before graduation so go ahead all right so I guess jumping right into it um first off we have been working a lot on on or not a lot this past week working on Teacher Appreciation Week stuff so
each grade was assigned a day to do just something mini to show teachers our appreciation from student council so freshman did tissues with notes sophomores did baked goods Juniors did I think ice cream and seniors we did sticky notes on all of the doors in the building just saying like thanks for everything you do and then Starburst um so that was that then after seniors have been extremely busy we just had our prom which went very well it was very exciting everyone stayed almost the entire time yeah most people left around 9:30 and ended at 10: so it was honestly I mean I went it was very very fun so it all went well um and then also just wanted to give a quick shout out to parents for organizing our senior barbecue that was
a really nice surprise we had two food trucks come to the high school during I think fourth period a couple weeks ago um and all students just got to have either tacos or Burg or mac and cheese whatever so that was very fun and there was yard games too um next seniors have also been busy planning senior trips um so that we're going to Brownstone this year which is a Adventure Park in Connecticut so it's like kaying ziplining paddle boarding like a whole bunch of different stuff that you can do um there's really activities for everyone so we're very excited about that um and just planning our senior week and everything and last but not least as a whole we've been talking about walk for change which is really run by CWA which is community
Wellness ambassadors Club um but student council has a small part in it we're going to be organizing the yard games it's essentially kind of like a field day but for mental health awareness um so yeah student council is doing yard games and just doing I think we're doing a 50-50 raffle for everyone who bought our student council shirts so that's pretty much it but yeah thank you thank you so much thanks for all busy I know very busy busy time busy busy time thank you thanks so much all right does anybody have any questions for Grace no good luck thank you thank you so much exciting enjoyed this I am actually gonna go but you don't want to stay Gracie no I totally would I actually do still have homework to do I was hoping
you didn't but okay me too and good answer all right Tim you're up just principal report and then and then we'll go back to Patrick's um class sizes then we'll do your class SI as last awesome all right so um first I wanted to highlight just one of the many um extracurricular clubs that we offer and this really cool um uh project that Mr McFarland ran through our Latin club uh he ran this Roman coin restoration project with uh an individual student called CET um they were able to um uncover uh not only the era came from the Roman Emperor who was um in power at the time and uh they actually found um the mint where it was U where it was first minted uh in the year about 330 which aming totally incredible
was um and obviously this is really incredible really cool experience for the um you know everybody that was involved the club members uh the student in particular but just one of the many examples learning experiences our students engage in through you know the rich co-curricular offerings we have um so I just wanted to mention that our advisory update I know it was a separate item but I do have an update in my board report so I just I think it's a separate I put as to put it on the agenda I just think if as a board we need to kind of talk a little bit about if you're going to make any structural changes to the day in the schedule I think we might need a a board approval on that I think so
we need to talk about that a little bit okay I think I think we need to talk about that so I also I think if there's some actual curriculum that we'll talk about later supposedly the school board supposed to approve curricul changes right so just kind of that's why it's that's why it's there okay but you can go through this now it's fine all right so uh The Advisory uh instruction of practice advisory committee continues to uh meet develop structure and content our advisory program slated for implementation in Fall um just kind of a current status update um Continue to update our staff G feedback from them throughout the process we've also added some students to our committee to ensure we're thorough in our program development um we have professional development uh days scheduled now
uh we are working with uh the Parker charter school and we have a a full um day visit to Parker uh at the end of this month then we have a team from Parker coming uh for a full PD sorry half PD Day in June with our full staff uh obviously our staff in August will look different with new hires uh so and we'll also gain the feedback from our staff in June uh for an August um professional development day going into school year uh and then the goal will be also to have uh monthly coachings for that advisory leadership team that was identified in theou that advisory leadership have monthly coaching sessions with u members from uh the CH the Parker Charter School uh so um guiding the work uh for the uh for
the school for the year so just an update uh where that work lies right now you had already gone through the We the People DC trip uh so I won't get into details on that but I wanted to thank Mr dual um and his hard work not only on the trip but also throughout the year and preparing the students for um our state competition and then obviously advancing to Washington was really exciting super proud of uh the work that those guys are doing wanted to congratulate uh junior Bailey Dunn who was selected to represent New Hampshire at 2024 Al newarth uh free spirit and journalism conference in DC and she'll she'll attend that in June um bayy was awarded a $1,000 scholarship for her uh winning the journalism competition for New Hampshire soing very very
excited and happy for Bailey who um is uh one of our student journalists um in our journalism class lastly I wanted to bring your attention to the social studies international trip proposal so if you recall we had a trip proposal earlier this school year for spring of 2025 for Spain uh our goal will be to have another international trip the following school year uh this one being put on by our soci Department specifically for students uh in world studies and um AP World so uh students who have um completed their uh US History course and um advancing on to their M history studies so if um I can get into details the the plan would be to um travel to Ireland Scotland and England uh in the spring so April vacation of 2026 and uh
we have our two lead chaperon in attendance tonight if there are questions specific to the trip that either I can't answer to discuss the trip okay does anybody have any questions for Tim regarding the um well first of all regarding the principal's report um I think the coin story is really cool I hope if listening out there you should take a minute to read his story in the principal's report and um I'd like to obviously thank Mr Deval but finally congratulate biley Dunn because that's pretty incredible um and there's a whole bunch of dates because the end of the year is just not busy at all it's just nothing nothing happens between now and June 19th nothing so that's great thank you um but does anyone have any questions on the principal report okay does
anyone have any question questions on the trip to um the British Isles Ireland and London and looks fabulous looks pretty cool to me but Tom you have some questions um what do you what is the process fording on destinations generally speaking for the school or for the the individual trips in general for these for these trips the foreign language sometimes do with the social studies I'm just curious how they arrive at where yeah I mean I think it might be uh specific to you know so World Language you know they obviously it's cultural wonder is it tied to to does the curriculum change and therefore the connections change or is it just something that has some level of overlap I think there's definitely overlap uh I don't think the curriculum is is changing to adjust
to the destinations necessarily but at the same time I thought I don't know if it goes the other way whether the curriculum changes like does does the world world studies or whatever it is have a different like theme from year to year or is it pretty much the same year to year I think pretty much same year to year that would offer um on a more specific note I'm seeing the of these trips is is increasing a lot is there any mechanism this is sort of perhaps more to the board to create some sort of a scholarship fund if we're going to be continuing these Trends so that we can um make sure that uh Financial uh wherewithal doesn't become a uh limiting factor for qualified students to attend is there a mechanism whether it's
getting um HBL involved or or some other organization to help us with it but these are these are amazing trips amazing opportunities but four to 5,000 and sometimes even more can just be an absolute no go for kids I would say that the same mechanism exists for the DC where we can put it out there and make it available to the public generically as we have but also um putting it out there in newsletters so individual parents can be identified of a specific need meaning this trip as opposed to just you want to donate in general um but I I just want to go back and clarify the curriculum piece so we're looking at apus history there's a connection there and then all world history students so so that's who it's open to it's open
to okay yeah just and just just a curiosity do the um adults um have to pay their own way or they are they subsidized out of the the cost of the trip typically the chaperon are covered within the cost of the trip full yes do are these paid days as well you want us to clarify okay go ahead to so regarding the cost yeah it is it's it's I think um because we're waiting in we initially wanted to go next spring um but with another trip going out we thought it to um until 2026 that's why it's up a little bit more um and EF we have they sent us a whole pleora of information about fundraising that the kids can do that this is something new that they've introduced since we went last with
them um so there there are fundraising mechanisms that they can do and helps them to set those up um and then what we clarify uh Tom asked about adults so um the GR so EF for every six kids a Shon goes for free that's covered by E not through the kids but we also sometimes parents will want to come and they'll pay their own way they won't be so they have a student rate and then an adult rate Tom you had asked the dates too the proposed dates are April vacation with the potential to leave on that Friday right it says there's potentially two days that that it might School curious and it was more the thing I I wasn't sure if it's if it's considered work or often times when we have a field
trip if they go to Boston for a field trip it's a school related apps so so they don't have to take vacation that's correct like to inv yes on the thank you thanks oh maybe just one more thing that this is a trip that was approved by the board for the spring of 2020 could herebody said that so it was previously approved and then right so yeah I don't have a motion but I guess we should probably just for safety sake approve it again um even though technically we approved a trip to londonengland um but it's not in deliberation so we can either do it under deliberations which would mean an agenda adjustment or we can do it right now a lot of times we do these right during principal's report so they do it
right now okay so can I have a motion to approve um the trip to Dublin edinberg and blundon for April vacation 2026 moved by Cindy second by Rob is there any further discussion just uh when we get a little closer to it we get confirmation that it as oros okay all those in favor confirmation you want it as a what do you mean like that a in a year you do it can we come back and say is it still the same trip right okay all those in favor five zero so mosha carries so that's travel places go out of business that's true lots of lots of things can happen Co obviously not again but please great thank you thanks guys thank you thank you for the presentation on that seems like it'll be really
fun so that's awesome all right moving on oh Tim are we still on your principal report where are we uh I am through my principal report and I think um we and you're done with foreign travel you only have the one trip right it's that's it right now right that's correct so my plan is we have Spain next year this did we approve Spain already yep we already went yeah you guys keep track of everything I can't remember so that'll be the first international trip since Co so I wanted to do that one that's our one next year and then okay and then that one will be in 2026 so yeah so we are way out it's two years okay okay PR okay great fantastic okay so Patrick back to your um I know we're
bouncing around but it just felt like it was easier to do to talk about course requests and average projections kind of all at the same time and I didn't want graci to sit through all that so good so Patrick go ahead course projections give us your summary again I think I was starting to make a little bit of a joke that this is uh a little bit e easier process sounds like a lot of bit easier of process than the high school um as ours is pretty cut and dry uh we receive the requests which you see under the requests column um and then once we have those finalized numbers uh we try and keep our average class size projections obviously uh per policy under 25 uh for most classes we know there's a few
that have some different numbers there um but we do go through and try and look at if there other classes make more sense to add or cut one um but we do try and keep numbers uh as ear as possible for our average class sizes in the fall when you get the actual class sizes they might be a little different just because of the way the schedule Works um but what you see for the middle school is is pretty straightforward so I will leave it open for questions so the only thing that stood out to me and I guess maybe I don't know if you can answer this but I noticed that reading for eighth grade had 13 requests and reading for seventh grade has 45 and so was there only like 13 or 14
kids in Reading in seventh grade this year the numbers in seventh grade this year were were really light like that cuz cuz I was just trying to figure that out cuz usually that's a class that okay okay that you take you take for two years you take it like you know you can't bounce into Spanish or you can we are trying to uh move in that direction like more flexibility in that way okay because sometimes uh we do just need another year for students to get closer onto grade level reading um and then giving them that opportunity to have a little exposure before they get to the high school but uh one thing that I run into is um there is a common misconception out there that world language is required in middle school and
Tim correct me if I'm wrong I don't even think it is required at the High school but colleges correct do really like to see it it's not required to graduate it's not a graduation requirement yeah elective 45 a big number for yep yeah actually I think I think it's kind of good because at one point it was it was almost viewed as um a lower level approach and I'm guessing that these are the numbers it's viewed as as a viable option someone's preference some of us actually encouraged our kids to take reading instead of language in in Middle School um as an idea that it was a great idea to keep doing reading for a few years so that was I know we did the same thing and the kids my my kids got one
of them got caught grief for it too yeah they were discouraged actually right I think uh Katherine bransom um has done a nice job of communicating with parents but also the elementary schools about the importance of finding the right class for students in middle school and not taking on too much because it is a big transition um and trying to establish that healthy balance of really trying to get students to to learn uh to to love learning because sometimes when we take on too much in Middle School like a world language class band algebra geometry uh it adds quite a bit of stress and pressure to these 12 13 14 year old kids okay um do you have more I all done uh geometry 8 uh 15 what's the current methodology for choosing qualifying to
take geometry as anth grade student do it does it require a recommendation or qualification or something starts uh just starts early on in our elementaries So It Begins um in a couple weeks with the um accelerated grade six placement exam that that students can opt in to take so if they um are successful there then they take accelerate grade 6 math which is six and seven combined if you successfully complete that you can be recommended for algebra in grade seven there are um some students take an alternate path but if you take uh if you are successful in grade seven algebra then you are then recommended for geometry in eth grade some students take seventh grade algebra and then decide they need a stronger foundation and so take algebra again in eighth grade um you
know some students take that six7 combo and decide that they need a stronger foundation and they're going to do the pre-algebra in seventh grade and move in that so every year there's an opportunity to look at what the the plan is but in order to take geometry in eth grade you need to be um successful in um algebra why uh because after geometry it's Excel Algebra 2 and so if you weren't successful in algebra then you can't be successful I'm just wondering why they couldn't go a standard algebra route with starting algebra in a high school you you can take geometry earlier because it's a different my impression is it's a different skill set kind of it is however the way we teach geometry Inu 41 is quite different from most schools because it does
traditionally it's Algebra 1 geometry Algebra 2 and you lose all those algebraic skills so our geometry is um very much dependent on a solid foundation in algebra as it's Contin continuously intertwined and that's intentional so they don't lose those skills and the 15 draws from both teams I'm assume is that a small a relatively small number it is smaller than and um you know it ranges 24 is usually our Max I think 25 was our largest size two section of it no we always want run just one um usually it's around 20 but it's really based on um you know the the cohort and and who's in there and are we seeing that it's we're getting the same results as taking algebra in high school as far as the program itself uh I think my
first year here that and I was probably the lar group I think it was their 25 group uh those guys are still Juniors High School yeah so they're just completing AP Cal as Juniors this year but my point is if we're not seeing that the the kids who take out uh geometry and algebra at the middle school level are having difficulty when they get combined with um students who have taken it in the High School uh no and that's part of what land looked at last year when he did that full year analysis um you know there's always there's always a bit of a struggle when you transition from elementary to middle and then middle to high so there's that like learning curve of oh my goodness I'm in a high school class and I'm
a freshman and I might be in class with a junior so that's a whole social piece that kind of plays into itable yeah and so this year we've we have um a new hire this year um who has taken that role and has worked very closely with the um coordinating teachers up at the high school so it is lock step okay any other questions for Patrick on his class sies thank thank you Patrick all right so I will go in the order uh of the departments as they are listed in the report so the first one is um computer science and engineering and you'll also notice um on this report I did decide to include some courses that we chose not to run this year uh we had had uh discussion about these particular ones
uh these courses were taught by uh a staff member uh who had left um just prior to the start of this school year uh they did not run this year we wanted to look at request numbers and have that discussion here uh so the decision was made as as you can see the computer science principles course we had nine requests uh and again uh being mindful that the request doesn't necessarily mean where that course ends up uh it can fluctuate typically uh downward uh sometimes you get some kids that pop in depending on the course but oftentimes the requests uh are higher than the number of students who actually end up in the course uh so with those um numbers being uh for starters in the single digit computer science principles uh we did not
feel the need uh to uh advertise recruit and hire uh someone to teach some of these lower enrollment lower request courses video game design had nine requests web page design had 12 requests again keeping in mind those those are requests that doesn't mean that's how many kids wind up in the course the computers and Technology course uh that was one that um we did have 29 requests that's a semester ised course so you're talking you know maybe 15 and 14 students per semester in a perfect world um and One Singular course um did not make sense for us um the personal finances finance courses that were also taught by that individual um to kind of supplement um the computer science classes uh we were able to find um an individual in a different department this
year um because we had reduced um some courses in that particular Department we had fewer requests and uh someone uh eager willing and able to to pick up that personal finance class so and I'll talk about that in a little bit when we get that Department AP Computer Science was taught by uh Mr photo this year the plan will be for uh him to pick it up again next year um and the requests remain healthy in that course as well I do want to point out one error here engineering Technologies uh in the spring that shows 31 requests um that number will the number of the in the class size will be based on the number of um devices available and it's not 31 I want to say it's actually 21 um devices available for
that particular course so um but outside of that um that wraps up the engineering in computer science department moving on to English uh a couple things I just wanted to highlight we've got the Business and Professional writing uh looks like about six classes down that's that new course uh we had talked about last year incorporating um and uh we've got we had about 49 requests uh and we're going to be running two sections per semester of that course dual enrollment College composition uh that's our running start course the name just changed it's the same course um that's our sophomore um uh writing uh kind of option that students will choose to um to take and and receive college credit for as soft yeah wow yep uh so we have it's been around a long time
I didn't realize was soft course yeah so the that required writing course that we offer for sophomores um we have some students opt to take it uh in this format uh I mentioned the personal finance course earlier uh that was going to be taught by a member of our English Department um we had an opportunity um within the department um because of the number of sections we were offering the enrollments uh where we did have uh a window uh where someone could uh and we were fortunate enough that we had a member of The English Department who was uh willing able um and eager to step up to to pick that up so um that personal find those the two sections um one each semester uh will be taught by somebody in English the fashion
uh I'm sorry the um the uh food family consumer science uh numers there those remain healthy uh foods and nutrition one one of our more popular courses remains as you can see those requests are high hard to get in there um uh our math courses uh not too much uh has changed there you'll see the dual enrollment language change that's the running start Algebra 2 the running start algebra 3 uh that that new language is just um from the University system um our numbers remain healthy uh On Target there mid- teens in most cases um with some rare exceptions where um like as an example the essentials for algebra that's specifically designed to be small the Fus math those numbers are incomplete at this point in time um we will have students enrolled in that
class uh imp the individual math same thing uh those numbers are uh those courses are designed to have um small enrollment numbers um and really healthy uh teacher student ratios for uh individual student needs the uh PE section there uh our numbers remain uh healthy in there unified PE enrollment numbers uh will remain uh smaller uh we do have mentors that add that course um in the add drop period uh that's a nice opportunity for students to um take on that role with our um with our athletes and we do have um a class that ran this year uh as a as a first year class intro to strength and conditioning that's running again next year those numbers look pretty healthy 19 the wellness and fitness numbers that's based on straight enrollment similar to like
Patrick's uh there there'll be 10 sections of those classes uh those are standard based on what the freshman class uh sizes moving on to science um nothing uh too noteworthy there everything pretty much status quo in science numbers remain on target um pretty much across the board which brings me to our social studies we have a couple new courses there the anthropology class the archaeology class those are both running uh with healthy numbers those are semester IED courses each of those running in the mid- teens and and oh we also have the music in American history the and project startup those are two new offerings this coming year as well uh and we chose to run those um with 15 and 12 uh requests respectively uh start it's like an entrepreneurial uh course um Mr
Belo had um uh proposed it and uh you know we wanted to get off the ground and give it a give it a chance to um gain some popularity I'm optimistic that that will uh that will be a a popular class in the coming years we have the visual arts department there um you can see those numbers um remain um on target with where they were in this past year and previous years our AP art class uh we chose to run with uh seven students uh that will um stand out as a you know a single digit number running uh that course but um we did choose to run that that is uh for students in that uh in that realm that is their Capstone opportunity that's their um typically uh senior um uh opportunity
to um finish out their their art career and um we want to make sure that opportunity was present for those guys similarly uh with our Performing Arts um section here uh we went back and forth on a number of different different um possibilities uh the decision uh in the end I want to bring your attention to the Jazz Band so we chose to run jazz band with eight students specifically uh because the um the students who sign up for that class uh it is a um is a very specialized course uh without running the course those even though that number is small those eight students would not have that opportunity through the public education system uh to get that um to get that experience um we we are remain optimistic that these numbers uh will
rebound I will remind uh you know that you know this is a um this is a difficult uh decision for a lot of students entering high school with uh the required courses that they take um and having seven periods uh there's not too many opportunities for electives um and um it becomes a challenge uh to um to maintain uh the the music aspect of of their education so uh we want to make sure that remained available for our students and we did choose to run uh these courses um with knowing some of them uh will be small um but we didn't want to remove that opportunity for the kiddos and lastly we have World Language here I want to bring your attention to French four we had five requests for French 4 we chose not
to run French 4 students um who are in that boat would have the opportunity uh to take it as an honors course um which we are running that is currently sitting at 14 each individual student who had signed up for French 4 uh has met with their counselor has made decisions um that um some did move into French four honors French 4 um some are choosing CTE and were dropping World Language altogether um but uh each individual student was um uh was counseled uh through the decision-making process after we decided uh that uh French five I'm sorry French four with only five requests uh was not going to was not going to run the senior quest number uh you'll see that's four um we see that as a result we have uh seen an increase
in our um our students choosing to do elos uh through uh Dr Don bro uh and while it's not necessarily a full your experience like the senior quest uh those are very individualized um special interest type courses that um DA's done a really nice job um orchestrating um some off campus experiences for kiddos uh so the senior Quest numbers uh did not um dictate that we run we run that course next year so we opted to um to remove that from the offerings for uh the 2425 school year and as always I'm open to any questions uh about my course enrolling numbers projections I should say are there any questions for Tim is there any is there any questions from anyone besides Tom I I would just say a comment that I find these um
these average class sizes very uh reports very helpful and enlightening it's nice to see that in general we're kind of targeting between 15 to 20 yeah polic seems to be The Sweet Spot yep policy dictate you know dictates kind of where the target is with outliers depending on on needs whether it's AP or whether it's um Singleton course or um you know specifically designed for you know maybe students with special needs needs um and I think the decision a couple years ago to do the May projections and then the followup in the fall does paint the picture decision making why we ran this why we didn't run that and then uh I think there's a little bit more transparency in where things ended up in clearly looks like it took a lot of time to
put together so I appreciate both um reports middle school and high school thank you great moving on okay so oh oh Tom has a question he's got a notepad we're in trouble so I wouldn't interrupt during the middle of it okay Tom let's move on go ahead questions are there prere for AP Computer Science know what they are because the reason I'm asking is we've eliminated some of those other ones I'm wondering if there's a defined feeder or if it's just people have interest in it I can answer that for you if you give me a second um personal finance is that a state dictated curriculum or are we able to develop our own uh it is required that we offer the course um the specifics of what are in that course are vague at
very bag bague sorry just a com I'm not looking at this for I'm just really curious is there some place I can go I'm just curious to see what the curriculum is for that ABS on the yeah is it is it well detailed okay you don't have to answer that's where I look I just curious about it so Tom your question about um the pathway to AP Computer Science the prerequisites are a grade of b or higher in Algebra 2 or permission of department chair okay so it's it's math math require yep um don't find one thing I just don't understand is how are the algebra classes so you''ve got you've got the two different twos and how do people choose what they're in all right so find math here so you've got the standard
Algebra 1 that would be your college prep algebra you've got algebra 1A and 1B that's a those are two separate courses that it would take a student two years to complete all the requirements for algebra so you would take one a one year freshman year you would take one B your sophomore year and fulfill the graduation requirement of algebra but it would take you two years to cover the curriculum so it's a slower Pace but it fulfills the math requirements without having to go above algebra you would continue on the path would then be General geometry as a junior I mean we talked about they have to have X number of years this would be a way to get the math experience yeah your four years math experience those would those would all qualify as
a singular math experience do the do the teachers or Administration or counselors have any um say in who can and can't take it I'm wondering are you at risk of kids who are on a fast track taking something that might be viewed as a lower level slower paced class and therefore impacting it for students slower Pace you know what I'm saying I think I know what you're saying and I think how I would answer that is our teacher recommendation um which is the beginning part of our scheduling process uh is very thorough uh includes uh individual uh conversations meetings with students and oftentimes a counselors uh counseled in a decision if it's not clearcut um but there's often a track if someone's going to get get off that track because they're um for whatever isas
demonstrating that that're inappropriately placed then that's a conversation and that could be upwards or yep yep that you can you can certainly move y difference between dual enrollment and regular Algebra curriculum uh so our the dual enrollment is the running start Algebra 2 um and that's offered at a um similarly um uh developmentally appropriate pace and and depth of content so is it a different pace than the regular algebra do but is the content the same um I would offer that the content is the same but not necessarily as um as deep or as uh as I was just trying to figure out how people would decide how to take one versus the other again it's going to be a teacher recommendation okay yeah okay thank you um are we seeing people using that that
option for outside experiences for PE credits much the flex PE yeah where if they're doing something that can submit and request getting credit I'm not talking about necessarily just the sports teams but yep I think you had asked this question last year and I uh I did uh I went back a couple years and I provided that that data it's on Pace with what we've seen the last several years um the last question is does the recently announced resignation for physics impact our ability to doing these classes are we dependent on a new prior to be able to offer these class the schedule you see here the science he's talking specifically with science yeah this is based on uh us being fully staffed my question is do we have to accomplish a hire or do
we already have the staff um hired to teach what you have we have three science positions that are currently vacant two chemistry and one physics and this got to Andy's Point earlier with the permission to hire yes these are very competitive positions and the only the last thing is um CTE do you have a any information you can bring us next meeting or whatever on what the enrollment is for that how many kids are doing CTE programming uh I'm curious what the impact is of knocking mil out of the mix I will bring as updated information as I can about CT next month that would be great to to fct that I just thought of a question myself um you're not allowed Tom took all your time about the hiring and making sure we can
execute to this plan do you feel like you have the tools necessary to attract uh and compete with uh maybe other districts Andor how can we assist to improving it otherwise I I think we have the tools it's just the sheer number of bodies that are being asked across the state for Math and Science that's going to be the problem so we're working diligently on that um I think the recent passage of the contract by our our communities has really helped us be competitive from a S point of view M and um will'll continue to to Market I know we did do some interviewing uh we're just not as you saw tonight we're just not at the stage where we're recommending people yet okay U we'll keep you posted and uh figure out Alternatives if
we have to come up with something okay thank you are we do you think we're getting back into the status of being a receiving District I I think we've seen uh general pools go up I think math and science uh foreign language would be another one uh a very uh difficult and special ed yeah Special Ed is probably the most difficult right now because all of us are competing for the same individuals across the state are there any other questions for Tim on the I want to thank patience pleas thank you Tim for everything thank you Patrick for giving us providing those numbers um I do find the October meeting when we get to see the how the how the requests turn into actual enrollments is always interesting to me so that's why I don't
have a lot of questions right now because I can see that you went through and you know diligently made decisions so and I agree with a lot of the decisions that were made thank you so thank you um all right so moving on we are at discussion yeah I think we're at revenue and expense because we did the IR Ireland trip yeah so if you could pass those this way and pass those happy to do that yes well it's it's a uh a memo regarding the packet so in your board packet uh Linda was kind of enough to pass uh along the information she is at a family commitment tonight so on the expense side we're projecting $1,129 n6 of underrun of expens and a 100 $1,181 carryover from FY 23 so that means that
our underrun right now is 1,130 277 we still have $ 6,791 and 541 that are incumbent so we do anticipate the um expenses potentially that Surplus growing we do don't necessarily believe it will go in the other direction according to my discussion with Kelly on the revenue side we are projecting $1,659 in excess Revenue the majority of that is related to food service so if you look at the um bottom we have total expenses as I outlined of 1, 13277 we need to do the accounting transfer of the revenues that come in for food service to actually the Food Service piece so you'll see there's a a deduction there of 136,00 47 and that's uh made up of the three food service lines above uh which are local federal and state those three numbers the
09912938 the 16691 and the 10 16418 from the revenue lines above are where I get the 13647 so I add the revenue balance of 151 659 and that gives me my unreserved fund balance before finding the items that were approved by the voters so from the 1,145 1889 the voters approved 300,000 to the maintenance trust $125,000 to the contingency fund and uh historically the last few years we've been doing 340,000 to the to retain fund balance so that would be a total reduction of $765,000 so we're projecting a fund balance as of tonight of $ 38,8 189 what I passed out to you was a memo provided by Kelly uh and we're not asking for action on the memo we'll come back in June if we're looking for action but we wanted to give you
an um plenty of time to process it so we had told the tax payers we would give them back $200,000 to offset the tax rate so when I take the fund balance that leaves me with $8,888 Kelly is proposing to potentially do the items one through six on the bottom of the memo that she provided which would be to do the cooldown rooms at the middle school to do the pre propane conversion oil tank removal for 60,000 to do more active flant panels for 31,500 to renovate the it office for 19 to do the sidewalk from the waight room to the stop sign and to do the duck work as you'll notice much of that is construction related projects and we'd really like to get the jump on those so those few weeks in June
from our meeting to uh July would be a huge help to move those forward the second purpose is to kind of um clear space for two potential items number one we are closely looking at special ed services for 20125 and uh because of some movein and some things going on we are a little concerned of what those expenses might look like but we'll know more by June the second piece is by doing this potentially with the FY 24 budget we would uh free up funds to be utiliz for the Middle School uh pipes that we have to do uh next summer by doing that we would reduce the cost of what would have to be budgeted uh for those pipes and allow us to get ahead of that we are as a facilities committee which
we'll talk about shortly also looking at potentially needing a boiler so it's just kind of trying to free up some money to make that happen because although we don't feel the boiler will fail um we would like to uh really start moving in that direction with the completion of the high school boiler system this summer and the middle school next summer so again we're not looking for any action but we do believe that this number of 38889 will grow and we would like to utilize some of that as uh funds to do some of our Capital Improvements that we've done in the past and I'm happy to take any questions either about the revenue expense report or uh Kelly's mem I'll start okay um first question on the um report I'm just curious what is
did something change with u the Medicaid that we are 25,000 below what was budgeted Rue Revenue okay reue 20 2 27,000 um Medicaid is a a process that is student generated I know uh so if student services during the year don't need to be fulfilled for the student then obviously the Medicaid uh reimbursement would go down so that's is that the case or is it that we were eligible for stuff and couldn't get it convinced to apply for it because I know there's a bill going through or there was a bill that allowed districts to essentially not force it but take a proactive thing to we've talked in the past about you had don't the parents have to the families have to apply for that oh those are those are two different processes okay y
so those are two different pieces so we we've had um there's been a a huge change in the process of billing Medicaid that's across the entire State um so there's been some system changes and some student need changes that have impacted it for this year we're expecting it to go back up again for next year it sounds like it's actually a good thing that we didn't get it which means we didn't have to provide certain Services yeah sort of it's a balancing act it's both it's both yeah um what on on Kelly's memo yep I'll start with a big question first if if you would like to get a jump on these things that are facilities related would it would action tonight be important in order to get on contractor schedules or can can we
do it and make a decision in June and still get it done in the summer um action tonight would be greatly appreciated because it would help us to accelerate it but many of these projects have been in discussion with contractors so they so they're aware of them so uh they've already been out they've already started their work it's just the the sooner we can get the ball rolling the better because when I look at well I guess get a question is is it going to be done this summer regardless of where the funding comes from or is it dependent on approval to take it from the current year funding in order to do it the summer it's going to be done no matter where the funding comes from okay so you're so us not acting
on it tonight doesn't impact your schedule that's correct and I didn't want to necessarily put you in a position where you're acting on something and it's the first time the public seen it and it wasn't by the time we got through another look at the budget uh it didn't make the packet so I'd rather almost wait because I think we'll be fine because Lance has done a great job of setting up the contractors uh and this way anybody in the public has over a month to kind of see the memo process it and you have a month to think and the other thing that may happen at 380 could be 500 and we may have some other recommendations I have a question were any of these items listed as potential items for the maintenance trust
all of these items were in this fy2 budget so they were in the fy2 budget as items in the budget they weren't listed as potential spending from this year's maintenance trust okay could you tell us what the itm office Renovations are something doesn't make sense to me so if they were if these items were already in the budget why are we using or or recommending that we're using the free up the money which was talking about to get the funds ahead of time for the boiler oh so it's not it's not double counting or no we're just I'm not suggesting that you are I'm just trying to connect the we're just accelerating the process okay so that the um money that was freed up could either be used by the facilities committee on they're planning
our borders okay or if Lauren comes to me and says that things have changed a little bit in special ed then we will need to make some adjustments in that budget okay thanks thanks for the clarity um my question the it Renovations the it renovations if you were to look well I'll use the high school because that's the easiest one if you go into the library the it room is there on the right and it's um it was a hod Podge created of a uh well I'll cut say a couple smaller spaces and it's not really appropriate uh for for what we're doing now with it infrastructure and the amount of things we're running so this will allow us to to renovate that in more um closely align with like how things should be done
with regard to uh all your hardware and software and wiring so it's more a hardware room than an office correct it's also where um our Tech resides it but it's also the the hardware room okay yep good okay all right so are we done with that yes we are any other questions on that all right so moving on to the next thing sorry I just have to close this for a second I need a budget committee update the budget committee has not met since February we'll have our first meeting of the since since the district meeting I mean meeting will be next week so okay great thank you all right and then I need the facilities update so uh we didn't meet in April due to uh in climate weather and so forth so we
we this was our first meeting uh earlier this month to get together in several months uh since before our our annual meetings uh we went ahead and rescheduled the board uh or the committee um Lance will be taking the lead as the chairman restructured restructure what I Sayed I'm sorry I meant restructured um and I'll be assisting them with any agenda you know work putting agenda together um we did receive a very interesting um highlevel study because we we we're starting to move into alternative um energy options and things like that um and this somewhat of a high level study looking at both buildings um it it's not just a single discussion about a solar install or anything there's a lot of other things I think more more particularly this building than necessarily the high
school that really needs to be considered because there's a lot of different things that um kind of coupled to how we move move forward with any kind of Alternative Energy Solution so um I I expect that you know we had a very interesting discussion and and kind of talking about the different systems one thing that kind of jars in my memory is that we have I believe they're either Air Handlers or there're some kind of units that are almost out of out of their end of life but they have some life left in them but they're not necessarily used because they're noisy and the so so teachers will turn them off because they're just you know distracting to to during their uh delivery um so we have these systems but they're not being used so
I I found that's kind of an interesting thing and that I think the committee needs to be aware of and so it may not be just an end of life discussion on different entities or you of of systems in these buildings but how easily are they to be used and used effectively right so um we're going to get in a lot deeper content uh I think in June and more so in July because there's it's the work is ongoing currently right now so it's going to take a little time to gather that information put it together and something that is consumable by the committee so I I I expect a lot of interesting stuff be taking place in June and more specifically in July great but I like how where we're moving and the pace
at which we are moving um and uh Andy and Gina I don't know if there's anything I may have missed but by all means or Tom jump in I think it was great great thank you the only comment I have is I was really the presentation that Mike gave consultant one thing he really pointed out really two approaches there is shortterm and is longterm is what's best both what his recommendation from a both a cost and a functionality standpoint long term requires a high potential initial investment but if you make the commitment there's a potentially a whole bunch of federal money available but the concern is how do you sell something to the to the public when even though the net tax impact baby zero the amount you put in your budget for it is
a huge number yeah and it's always that thing I it's like when when people object to a warrant article to get reimbursed right how do we deal with the Optics when the reality is so different interesting it's going to take a lot of communication I think and a lot of explaining and far more than you can do in a evening at town meeting so that that's going to be something that we're going to have to lean into as a committee as well great well thank you thanks so much um so the reason advisory is on here is because I had questions about the process for implementing an advisory for the fall and I wanted to be sure that if there were any approvals that the board needed to make um in terms of proposals that
Tim was aware and you know if there was something that um by policy I would think like T Tom said it's like a little bit of new curriculum it's also potentially a schedule change and I believe the Board needs to approve a schedule change even if it's a minor schedule change is it do we y yeah so I mean in some cases it won't be a scheduled change because the schedule won't change but there should be an informational piece that you know that if we're going to add another session uh during the week right and that because I would say from a from a looking at the master schedule the master schedule isn't going to change but there may be components within that uh overall schedule that might be tweaked sure I can do that
yeah I just feel like it would be safer to make sure that it's presented to the board and and and approved by the board I think that gives it also makes sure that it just it's a board approved program too so that's better for you in the long run as well so but I just think well I wanted to make sure we laid it out now in may because if you want to implement this in September we need to do that soon so that that's the schedule um I can very easily uh clean up and and have that in a presentation format the um the curriculum like uh I alluded to earlier is a work in progress and continue to develop through our professional development and through the instructional practices committee which will eventually evolve
into that advisory leadership team so um the goal will be to have um you know that in place uh for the fall um and I can continue to update you on where we're at as we progress through the summer but the schedule is easy I can certainly bring I think maybe if we just have a something to approve maybe in June or July would be great for for your sake and for the sake of the of the public because they need to know that it's like a board approv I think it's my opinion that it should be a board approved program what's the name of the gentleman the staff member who's leading some of the discussions Griffin yeah he's doing amazing M Mr Fletcher yep he's new this year uh he teaches in our math
department yeah this guy he's the enthusiasm he brings to it number one and then his ability to her cats is phenomenal great good good feedback okay and then um so one of the things that we uh decided to do in terms of the stip pens is um make sure that we review them yearly as per our policy and we were going to approach that by having a committee I think that we talked about in negotiations right and include members that would include a member of the board um potentially a a member of administration um athletic director uh member of the SAU business office obviously sa build leadership team um so I just today I don't want to create one other element which is we are going to invite staff members to voluntarily participate do not
have to be there but if they would like to they can so um so do we need to make a motion to create a committee or is that just uh if the committee does not exist I believe we should my my suggestion would be hearing the elements that Holly outlined we should bring you back a um formal a formal Proposal with the you know who should be on it right okay and then kind of what the charge is so everybody joining it and then I would recommend you approve that in June and that gives Tim his guidance and you could approve it to you know go on for a year or it could become something that you incorporate into your yearly appointments to the stien committee so I just know that by policy we're supposed
to look at the stiens every year like and and the board's supposed to approve them look at them every year so it seems to me like this wouldn't be something that you'd have to meet every month but it's something that would have to happen every year so I thought having a we thought this was a a topic of conversation in the with the with the cont within the car I didn't know combine I think in the fall there was something on our we put on the calendar to list the advisers who's advising things right that's one of that list that we're working on that you know right the annual calendar is what I meant to say um right do we want to combine that conversation at that point to yeah we just need to make
sure we do it once a year I think we talked to the staff about possibly doing it in may obviously May has passed but we need to do it yearly so that I don't think they can be combined because I think they're sequential right you establish the stiens yeah and then that will affect right people's interest in doing it potentially so so one of the goals in doing this is if you see that you're having difficulty getting um advisors it may involve changing their the position of those activities on the stien table then you can get advisor so I isn't we don't know chicken egg egg chicken but we do need to just establish a committee um establish who's going what what positions are going to be on that committee and then I will need
once we once we establish it a member of the board to volunteer to be on it so that will not be appointed until we know once we've established it yes we have a policy that states that we will review them I don't think we have to put this into the policy for any reason do we this is more like a procedure no this is a procedure this is how we want to do it the the work of this committee would not necessarily be inputs into a policy committee no it's really just the the the work of this committee is just to make sure that the the review is happening and to bring it back to the board yearly to make sure that we here we have to actually approve the sement table will be used
to pay advisers so this committee is carrying out policy correct exactly got it exactly right so I'll bring that back in June thank you yep thank you and then um so there have been a couple of meetings related to I wouldn't say it says Farley building on the discussion it's more related to the um the the I don't know what else it called the land swap swap land swap so Andy you can cover that a little bit um Holly and I met with the representative of the select board in Gina uh to look at the um the land swap as you know we're trying to swap a small portion of land uh that the middle school property resides on and the co-op would give them a small portion of land uh at the rear of
the parking lot to make that work um that has been underway and and goes well in the midst of that discussion a lot of questions came up because uh these Arrangements go back many many years so there are many rideways there are many easements there are many Shar pieces so we're looking at trying to do the land Swap and then capture all of these elements uh of water electric parking rways bus routs it's just a host of things and then once we capture those pieces we then feel we can have a a productive discussion with at our board to then have discussions with the select board now the select board has uh created a new liaison to uh the schools and that uh is is Tom whan so Tom will have regular interaction so that
he can bring back the message of the Cooperative school board and the holla school board for things that relate to them um and kind of close the loop on um community communication or rumors or things that car get carried away that aren't necessarily accurate so Holly and I just wanted to make sure the board was where aware that you know we intend to proceed with the land Swap and bring it back to the board at some point for a formal vote then bring back um kind of an understanding of everything that takes place and also have a discussion around it to make sure we're not missing anything and then going back and then talking through those pieces and establishing what I say like a master memorandum of understanding for how these two properties work no
matter what is in that building and no matter what is in this building and we communicated that the memorandum of understanding that was brought to us already from the select board or the town was something that I said the consensus of this board was that we weren't interested in that one so we're interested in a more Cooperative one is what we've communicated to them so that one is not really in play as far as we're concerned it's more just let get the land swap done and then we can move on and have a better more Cooperative conversation so has the um do the princip Sur done I'm sorry has has Meridian done the new survey yet Meridian is in that process and obviously that that is kind of what brought up a lot of the
other concerns and it was whether we were going to try to put them all together in one package or do them as separate pieces and I just from my point of view and I could change if the board wanted I just felt it was too much to digest in one Fel swop because I think um right now Hollis would be involved because Hollis owns the water system the co-op at the Middle School receives their water from Hollis and so does the fol building we have the the bus loops in the parking so it really I think we need to go Case by case because you know one of the questions the town asked about was about water and I was honest we've done a number of surveys and have not found a well here on
the middle school and I don't know you know how far down you would have to drill or what the benefit is of that because the the Hollis well uh is a very strong well you know and it's and it's worked for many many years so it's kind of those type of discussions uh but now what we are we're doing with this new liaison from the selectman Holly will join us and G and I will represent the SAU uh and if need be I would invite the chair of the holla School Board uh because again they're the owners of the water but yeah I'd be I'd be interested in um any kind of studies around the capability of that of the rocky pond on pump house to supply any added capacity that that a community center
is going to need right and you know it's the schools first right and you know yep whatever capacity that's left over okay but but the survey to support the potential land swap is that a a phase of your in your multi phase yes we the chair myself and Gina would like to see that be phase one will that survey output the the plan the the plot plan that comes out of that identify right of ways and things that that are on within the scope of that land that's that's the intent okay so we don't have to wait for all the phases to be done correct to get that information that's correct I I think most of the information is existing we're just trying to iron out some details around uh you know easement versus right
away you know and where some of the components sit like there's my understanding in our front parking lot here underground is a is a I'll call it electric juncture that's pretty critical from this building to that building uh when you say that building what's thaty building yeah so um so a lot of those things to to be looked at do you think the principals still need to be here the principals don't need to be here but we're going to be licky split so they okay this is interesting being here for this one okay all right all right so are there any other questions on that all right moving forward um we're at deliberations I have a few um additional I'm just going to do the few items that we have first so Cindy I need
you to what did she say what was this thing she said she had to do yes Cindy I need you to state that you agree to adhere to policy BCA board member code of ethics just to repeat that just say I agree to I agree okay there we go that's good is that good all right great um also I need a motion to accept the following I'm just going to read the entire slate of appointments and I'm just going to ask for a motion to accept the Slate of appointments it's going to be repetitive because we did this sum of it last month but I'm just going to read them all and then I just need a motion to approve so I need a motion to approve the following slate of appointments to committees um
policy Holly Christa and Rob budget committee Tom IPC steering is Christa Holly and Kate advisory subcommittee is Tom and Kate grading and assessment subcommittee is Christa and Beth manifest Robin Kate with Cindy as alternate facilities Robin Tom SAU policy Cindy spec Cindy and Holly is alternate SAU budget committee Cindy your Beth raise your hand Beth okay SE Wellness Beth Hessa negotiations Christa Kate and I need a third person you don't need a thir I don't need a third person well we were saying just in case one of us I'll do alter if it's or is it expected to be there is it an alter of somebody it dep is that Hessa negotiations Hessa we don't need three but it is better to have three if you're going to do it you do have to have
to be you have to be there yeah and it's like afternoons so if it's afternoons that's okay morning okay okay yeah afternoons after school Christa K and Beth there we go great um building Administration compensation meetings that's not really a committee but Tom and Rob have been doing that stiens to be determined because we have to do the committee so I I need a motion to accept those nomin those appointments so moved moved by Beth second second by Rob any discussion did I miss anything all those in favor okay zero motion carries um we now we need something for Dawn um you may recall from your SAU board meeting we had a request from the recording secretary Don McMillan um which we approved at the SAU and we will take that to each of the
boards regarding her stien for doing the minutes uh we are requesting that her hourly rate go from $23 to $25 an hour Don does the minutes for our budget committee uh every meeting within our district uh Linda outlined um typical hours and it was 47 uh hours at the SAU level which is probably typical um of the SAU and probably multiply that by probably two times because of the different number of meetings the to a co-op board I would think that she the the budget committee too thank you a lot I bet it's way more than that so um I am recommending that we proceed with the increase at the co-op uh School Board uh for her to do the minutes uh she does an outstanding job she really does she does plus she did
all of that work on our policies this year so so um I need a motion to approve the superintendent's recommendation to increase the recording secretary um hourly rate to $25 per hour so moved by Beth second by Rob is there any discussion just thank you Don yeah thanks thank you thank you amazing and let's keep her happy we love you all those in favor 60 motion carries with like energy okay yeah well you have to come up with something okay next next on my little ability to hire I can you give me the motion yes I'll give you the motion Don sent it to me thank you um not something that's in our no these are these are agenda adjustments to authorize the superintendent to hire accept resignations and terminate staff until the August board
meeting and require notification of the board of such actions I need a motion for that moved by Beth oh second second by Rob is there any discussion do we usually do this in May or June we usually do it in June we typically it's June uh the last couple years actually we have done it early only because of you know I'm I'm concerned about science I mean if somebody walks in and Tim picks up the phone and calls me and says I have somebody we'll go from zero to a full offer probably within that hour for anyone listening if you have a chemistry or a physics back come on down all right all those in favor all those in favor 6 we're still going to be here for another half hour 6 Z yeah that's
motion carries oh yeah I was I like three times I meant to do but I didn't interrup to me yes public input has been closed now it's now technically closed at 8:37 it's been open for hours well it's better to be open longer than to be shut early so all right and then that's that's all that's all the special ones all right so I need a motion to approve the recommendations of the superintendent regarding compensation is that what it is regarding compensation as per our non-public moved by Beth second second by Rob is there any well we really can't really further discuss discuss this is this was the amended yes that's good all those in favor five all those opposed any extensions one so 501 motion carries okay so moving to policy to see what
action the board will take regarding policy GC QC resignation of staff member I'm going to put the motion on the table and then we can talk about it I need a motion to accept the second reading wave the thir and adopt policy GC QC resignation of staff member moved by Beth second by Rob okay so um all those in favor I guess not yet do do we yes okay there we go is that it yep next one okay there was no discussion so I forgot to say any discussion because we don't say okay fine so now I need not going to remind you well that one was good and carried okay motion by member to accept the second reading of policy EAA use of video and audio systems moved by Beth second by Rob okay
um is there any discussion on this one does somebody want to cover this um I can cover it we didn't change anything um as I recall Tom was concerned about um students videotaping well more General Does this does it impact recording maybe personal devices by anyone because I reading through it it it talks about the the locations of the cameras are approved by the superintendent so it it infers that this is only talking about recordings from those equipment but in nowhere do actually state that so is it we had a policy for students or is it in the student handbook they the student handbook we couldn't find a policy that governs students use or generally speaking recordings right couldn't find it in um the school board either so it is in the student handbook that
they are not allowed but I guess one thing I if you're going to exclude I items from this policy I would state that this does not include videos brought to the attention from uh people who have record on their own or something to that effect just I well this is saying our use and how we use our cameras and how we use our live streaming it does not say that it's stuff that have only come from our cameras that's my point you might want to say in the opening line This policy pertains only to videos obtained through District's District's recording device equipment okay District are you making it is someone making a I'm does that make sense yes no I see what you're saying okay got it yeah I got Gina did you did somebody
Gina's got it the other comment I have is uh in the first section the third I don't know paragraph all persons will be responsible um screw was caught on tape by cameras I would just say recorded by cameras where is we're just recorded instead of caught on tape oh okay okay might be recorded on District equipment or something District equipment let's kind of generalize yeah the device that's doing the recording because you know it's just going to create snags I think okay did you catch that last comment you okay so can I just get a a a vote on this one this is second reading we'll take it back to policy unless somebody else has any concerns okay all those in favor 60 okay next one trying Andy okay um great I don't like when
she does this okay I know but the motion she puts in here is to amend the title of section B by adding end or the can I just do motion as presented okay oh I'm just curious did we make the motion on the previous one to um wave third and adult yes to wave and okay very first one yeah I didn't pick up on that QC is second and adob E EAA is just second reading right so can I just do except second reading of of e a r yeah so I need a motion to accept the second reading of policy oh it's not policy to is it policy it's regulation e EA a-r as presented so moved moved by Beth second second by Rob okay so this one we have some changes too um
all right so who's talking about these changes I oh I'm sorry I know I'm not I was just looking at it so yeah no so we con we um definitely take took a look at the minutes from the last meeting and the feedback from uh board members so try we went back and forth trying to replace things and we undid them and anyway so we sort of came to the addition of that one statement before we hit AB C and D video and audio systems include but are not limited to security cameras and live streaming video and audio systems so um we're we're trying to identify what it is that we're doing a still really just referred to security cameras B is what we would do for getting information on security cameras and or other
recording devices such as if we were live streaming let's say um some sort of event and then something occurred what we would gather from that live stream could be used the same as potentially a security camera so we're trying to be a little bit more inclusive and then looking at C just viewing of recordings so regardless of if it's direct from the security camera um that's how we would handle viewing and utilization of recordings so we just kind of got rid of the security camera and made it more inclusive that's it any questions or comments on that one all those in favor okay great um that was 60 motion carries D thank you and then the last one is jici I need a motion to accept the first reading of policy jici weapons on school
property as presented second thank you moved by Beth second by Rob all right so who's talking about this one is that mine am I talking about this one I can can you do I don't remember so um you know every few years we look at this in May but anyway um this was brought before we do look at it the committee and uh we made some um clarifi clarifying statements if you will so in the beginning weapons are not permitted on school property in personal vehicles on school property is also a location where weapons are not permitted um they're not permitted in school Vehicles not um or on the roof of them so it was in we're clarifying that like inside a bus or one of our vans Etc and then we wanted to clarify
the suspension statement so suspension up to 10 days because that's what the school administrators is allowed to do legally um referral to the superintendent because if a suspension is um 10 days a referral to the superintendent allows the suspension to extend for days 11 through 20 because that's what the superintendent is legally allowed to do um so referral to the superintendent for suspension up to 20 days or expulsion from school may result so it's clearly stating what the consequences are and like the range um under which those consequences um could be um given out and those were the this like I said clarifying statements to the policy after reviewing it are there any comments or questions discussion on this yes Tom I think it's important somewhere in it that we make the statement that this
applies to students only because it does apply to students only so technically though the weapons that are not Firearms apply to adults as well okay but so weapon adults are not adults are allowed allowed to have firearms well and it's a j policy what it's a j policy is a student policy it's a student policy I I I called and talked to Barrett about today and there's we based on the new New Hampshire laws um we do not have the ability to regulate uh firearms for a else right and it's and it's even unclear I would I would potentially disagree with Barrett on that and talking with the local police department so I'd like clarification second he he said he he said it's it's already been challenged in the state but I I don't know
if the ruling has has completely come down but I yeah I understand the challenge but I think I think there's a difference between us accepting somebody to bring it on property as the owner of the property and the ability for that person to carry those are two different things to me um what he said is he and he was and you can check with them but he was he was reading the law from the RSA that um I forget what the term is is it political subdivisions or whatever whatever it is that a district is or or a town is is not allowed to regulate firearms and it lists a variety of things that that that overlaps and he says and so we don't New Hampshire you no longer have to have a permit for
concealed carry so it's it's not even it used to be you could that would um pertain but it doesn't anymore um he said it's even being brought to some legal in some of the districts in New Hampshire they're they're asking whether it impacts teachers and that's a bit of a gray area but he said in terms of member of the public it's been very clear that schools cannot um cannot stop it so um some guidance that we've received is that the carry is what we we cannot control that caring but um the I guess emotional state combined with the caring anything like that any perceived threat we absolutely can can call for support and um based on the circumstances but but anyway this is a j policy for students it's a student policy it and
also it is clear that we also can say that other weapons are not allowed on school property and adults can't have they can't have knives they can't have n numchucks or blackjacks or daggers or whatever but I guess they can have asked them specifically about about things like pocket knives he gave the example of Leatherman tools have a knife blade they are not um they are not prohibited by the rsas that are stated unless they are used in a threatening manner so so if a student has a has a a Swiss army knife that in and of itself is not classified in New Hampshire as a weapon unless they use it as a as a in a in a threatening Manner and in that case even scissors or a pen be viewed as a as
a weapon so I think you all right so we will we will do a little more research and policy a little digging on that okay because that I was warned that this one was coming up and I thought I kind of anticipated that we were going to get public input on this um so I wanted to understand where we stand don't get me wrong I'm not advocating that we should be allowing stuff but I want to make sure that we don't step into an area that puts us on the wrong side of New Hampshire New Hampshire law we are definitely in agreement there I just think there are nuances to the situations um but I think the reading of the law is correct but the situation that may occur in a main office may be
uh something that we view differently so perhaps we can capture that some way in this I think that's a great suggestion we will figure it out we'll go back to policy with it he U Barett said that if here will um can be of any help please let know okay we'll call Will or okay so all those in favor this is first reading right first read it was first read 60 motion carries so we did the other things that are on the agenda looks like we did the committee assignments we did I don't think we do this because some just did that so I just need a report out by the process Observer okay so uh we came out of non-public and entered into a regular agenda at about 6:40 we had several agenda adjustment
nominations and resignations but it's typical for this time of year uh we received great uh correspondence from Trevor Duval regarding the uh the Washington Trip um sections enf were chock full of report reviews and committee updates and Fin financials however it was uh good work that we needed to get done um but we got into our deliberation sections approximately 37 minutes behind our schedule however we did make some uh nice traction and gained a considerable ground getting our policy stuff deliberations completed so here we are at 8:53 so we're doing we're doing okay I think we're going to finish before 9 that's depending on you let's make a motion do I have a motion to adjourn move by Christ seconded by Beth all those
