[bell] >> [music] >> Hey, hey, hey, [music] hey, hey, [music] hey, hey, hey. >> [music] >> Heat. HEAT. HEY, [music] HEY, [music] HEY. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Great there by man. [music] Heat. Heat. [music] to go in. [music] Good evening and welcome to Exit High School and tonight's Division One basketball game as the Exit girls take on the Trinity High Pioneers. I'm Bill Taylor and I'm here along with my co-host >> Timothy Hollster >> and we're ready to bring you tonight's game. The ex exit girls come in with a record of eight and four. They're eighth in division one. They're on a three-game winning streak, which the games were all away as they defeated
002Spalding, Winnacana, and Nasha North. Trinity comes in with a record of seven and five. They are 11th in division 1. And they're also on a twoame winning streak as they beat Alvin and Keen in their last two games. Well, Tim, you have some keys to a victory tonight. >> Yeah. Uh my keys to a Blue Hawk victory, you know, I think it's going to be the same as we talked about in the Pinkerton game. I think it's going to be using their speed on defense. You know, they're really good at bouncing around, active hands, and getting the hustling for the ball. Uh, and then also it's just going to be >> keep it close. Kind of don't let Trinity run away with the game. Trinity, they love highscoring, blowing you out kind of games. They're
0030 and3 in games to side by less than 10 points. I'm not saying Xer has to keep it close on offense, but I'm saying defensively they got to make sure they don't let Trinity get to their spots and make their shots. They got to make sure they're limiting turnovers. And yeah, that both these defenses are very good. I'm not expecting a very highscoring game. Exit themselves have held five opponents to 35 points or less. Trinity, six times they've done that. These are two fantastic defenses. I can't wait to see how this game goes. >> Okay, the exit starters. Number 10, Lexi Rogers. Number 14, Maya Denine. 24 Jessica Melik, >> 25 Nicole Melik, >> and number 33, Emmy Keys. >> Eileen McDonald from the Cancer Center at Exit Hospital. Eileen. >> Hello everyone, and thank
004you for having me. And a big thank you to the Exit Bluehawks for their fundraiser tonight for the Exiter Hospital Beyond the Rainbow Fund. If you take a look at your program, it will tell you a about our Beyond the Rainbow Fund and there's a QR code in the bottom corner where you can make a donation if you wish. The Beyond the Rainbow Fund was started years ago to help cancer patients with expenses while they're going through cancer treatment. Uh this helps them with rent, mortgage, utilities, and other expenses that people need just to get by um while they're in their cancer treatment. We spend about $120,000 supporting our cancer patients every year. So, this fundraiser is very important to us. We're very grateful. Our patients are grateful. And thank you to this community. Thank
005you. [applause] Once you have folks who have lost the battle to cancer, this moment before we have the national anthem, just a moment of silence for all those who have lost the battle of cancer. >> Thank you. And now the national anthem reported by Ella Miller. Oh, say can [singing] you see by the dawn [singing] early light, what so proudly we [singing] held at the twilight [singing] last gleaming, who brought stripes and bright stars through the >> [singing] >> us fight or the ramparts we watched were so gallently [singing] streaming and the rockets bursting [singing] in gave proof through the night that our flag was still [singing] there. Oh, say does that star spangled B away? Or the land of the free and the home of the brave. [applause] >> Okay. [cheering] for Trinity. Their
006starters number zero Perez, number one Merry, number three, Aurela, number 11, Monahan, and number 13 Mosher. Well, I'm looking forward to tonight's game. The exit girls have played a good brand of basketball changing defensives up and uh they can run if the if the game gets that way or they can play a slowdown game. >> Yeah, they are very versatile group of girls. I mean, they like you said, they can play the quick pace bucket forbucket game, but they can also make you slow it down. And they don't they're not looking to just put up point and point and, you know, put up 50 60 every game. They're just looking to win. They'll play however needed. And, you know, man, coach T, we talked about at the beginning, the first game we did for them,
007they were 0 and2. They played two top teams. They're 8-2 since what a start or what a stretch [cheering] they've had. Five game win streak. Currently 6-2 over their last eight. Great great team. They've really ascended as this season's gone on. [cheering] >> Okay, Trinity comes out and man-to-man tight man >> and Melik gets fouled. Now, if you think you're seeing double out there, yes, you are. There's Jessica Melik and Nicole Melik, twins, number 25 and number 24. [applause] >> You know, uh, the Mel Twins and Lexi Rogers, they lead Exod scoring their top three. Lexi Rogers averaging eight, uh, 14.8. 8, which is eighth in D1. And then the Twins, Nicole is at 12 points per game, 20th, and Jessica is at 11.6, 23rd. Nice steal by Nicole Melik on the pressure again. Trinity
008comes out in manto man. Good steal by the Pioneers. >> Good hands there. Just really applied pressure on exit. Made them get a little sloppy with the ball. >> The Blue Hawks coming out in man also. >> Man, great footwork there from Nicole Melik. She did a great job shuffling across. Emmy K's >> his foul was on. >> Exer's defense already. I mean, they looked so suffocating on that possession. Uh, number 11 Moan had a great chance in a corner to get a shot up, but Nicole Mel just immediately suffocated her. >> [applause] >> Jessica Melik. >> The Blue Hawks in a trap half court. [applause] Lexi Rogers with the ball, walking it up the floor. Bluehawks get into their man offense. Some screens inside. Like I said in the pregame, both defenses already showing
009that they are not going to give any bucket up easy. These offenses are really going to have to do a good job of picking and choosing high percentage shots. >> Let's see Rogers inside off the out of bounds play. Just like that right there. Lexi Rogers getting inside off the glass. Close shot. Perfect. Who walks in a switching man? Oh, good hands. [cheering] >> Nice shot. >> Offensive rebound there by the Pioneers. Moahang just great job getting inside. >> Six to four Blue Hawks as we have begun the basketball games. >> What? >> Jessica Melik. >> Man, great job there just getting inside and again a high percentage shot and she, you know, almost hit the defense with a I'm too tall. cut it over two defenders. >> The Blue Hawks in a 221 press.
010Nice baseball pass. Oh, twin to twin >> from Nicole Melik to Jessica Melik again. Double team. Good double team. Picked off. >> Just great defense here from Exer early. >> Nice pass again. Oh, [cheering] >> Lexi Rogers. >> Timeout, Trinity. >> Quick. >> Good timeout. >> Time out. >> Yes, good time out. >> Yeah, very well needed. >> Well, you know what? Again, you know, when you teach how to play defense on a zone press, you want to invite the ball into trapping areas. And the trapping areas are along the baseline and the corner and right once they get over half court on the sides. And the Blue Hawks are doing a great job of inviting the ball into trapping areas where they can get deflections and then initiate their running game. And you know
011what I mean? Exer's defense only allows 44.8 points per game for a reason. They're a great defense over this three-game stretch. They've only allowed 96 points while scoring 165. They have a plus 69 point differential in these past three games. Their defense is >> dribble [cheering] discontinued dribble certainly. >> Okay. Rogers with the ball again. >> Trinity staying in their man. actually does a great job of moving when they don't have the ball. They have screens and everyone's kind of moving around trying to get open, not sitting still. Great job right now. Oh, nice job keeping that pivot foot planted, not getting a travel. That was a tough situation to be in. Oh, >> not a good foul. >> It was a good job though finding the open guy, trying to get a high percent
012shot up. Just think go. But you keep getting shots like that. You know, you're going to get some of those to go. I'm very happy with Exit's ability to pick and choose where they're shooting from. And they're not just hucking up shots. They're doing a great job of finding the high percentage shots. Okay, the Blue Hawks in a 22-1 press. >> Oh, nice. >> They beat it long. Monahan number 15. No good again. Exit is just getting Trinity off of their game. Just making them have to put up any open shot they can get cuz the defense so good. >> Rogers was fouled in a drive to the basket. Everybody second. >> Oh, great job by the training defense there forcing a turnover. Whoa. She just launched herself into the exit defender. I think she's
013hoping for a foul call, but she did a great job just getting that ball to go in. >> Oh, great hustle there by Trinity. >> Oh, good steal. What? Oh, >> Rogers again, >> man. Good job getting her own miss, but great steal, too. >> Oh. Both these defenses playing very well right now. [cheering] >> Oh, you know, I I will say Extor's got to slow it down a little bit. I think they're a little too amped up from that quick start doing the, you know, they did great job off the off the rip, but they just got slowed down a little bit. They're a little too antsy right now. That's where you're seeing they're trying to make a quick pass to get a quick bucket and that's where that turnover happened. Get back to
014playing extra basketball and, you know, they'll have as much success as they had early on. >> Okay, they're in a two3 right now. Number 25, Nicole Melik with the three-pointer. The Blue Hawks in the press, >> man. Exer is dominating the boards right now. >> Number 12, uh, 20 May Atley was just in the game and she just got fouled after she grabbed the rebound. So Trinity was in a high 23. They're pressuring and maner just great job. They're not turning the ball over. This is a This is a great job from Exer though. They're taking open shots. They're taking good high percentage shots. You saw uh Nicole Melik hit that three-pointer. That's how you beat that zone is you hit the three, make them pay, find pass the ball around till you get that
015open shot. We'll see if uh Trinity stays in that zone. It's been working other than that three-pointer. The Blue Hawks come out of a miss with man. Trinity throws it away. Good swarming defense by the Blue Hawks. Number 21, that's Maya Simeone in the game. >> You see Exer slowing it down. Nicole bringing it up slowly letting the offense kind of get into their rhythm. >> Nice passes. Ah, >> just a little low on that pass there, but you know, it's going to happen, but you won't limit the turnovers. Like I said early in the uh before the game started. Got to limit the turnovers. Right now, Trinity turning the ball over more than Exit. So Exit still doing a great job of, you know, controlling the game and controlling the pace. >> Ella Campbell
016in the game. 156 Bluehawks with the lead as the first quarter is nearing an end. Uh, >> you know, the biggest difference in this game right now, I think, is Exit's rebounding. They've gotten more second chances and they've gotten they've limited Trinity to almost always having one shot every possession. I mean, their first bucket was on a second chance points, but other than that, I don't know if they even have any. They've, you know, X's done great job of controlling the boards. Blue Hawks in a zone now. Two-3 zone. The Pioneers trying to find an open shot. Picked off by the Blue Hawks. >> Oh. Way to take it strong to the basket. That was Nicole Melik. >> Good job drawing the foul, too. >> 5 seconds left. 156 the score. >> [cheering] >> Trinity
017hustles up the floor. They do get a shot off. No good. And that's the end of the first quarter. The exit of Blue Hawks 15. The Pioneers six. >> You know what? Good job there from uh Fern Fernando just getting the shot up cuz you never know. could go in. We've seen some buzzer beers this season, but man, what a great first quarter from Exit. If they continue to play like this, they'll be coasting to victory. I mean, they are just they're dominating the boards. They're getting inside for some easy shots. They're getting open shots in general, just giving them an ability to take that high percentage shot. And man, their defense just, as we've talked about a lot early in this game, and we talked about a lot when they played Pinkerton, their defense
018is just amazing. >> Yeah. >> And you know, the uh Pioneers, if you look at it, they're not getting many shots at the basket. >> No, >> you can't you can't score points if you don't shoot the ball. And right now, they're turning the ball over in transition. Uh when they do shoot, they're basically getting one shot. >> Yeah. And actually, you know, they uh they just have such great hustle. All these girls out there, they're so fast and they're, you know, they don't take any play off. They're not looking to put their hands on their knees and take a little bit of a break. They're hustling to the ball making you make a pass when maybe you don't want to. It's I mean, they're just absolutely suffocating right there. Perfect. Good to get caught
019though. You can't allow a offensive player. >> Yeah, she had a great cut there. >> She did. >> Free rain under the hoop. I was just about to talk about how great they were pressuring number three, uh, Aurela. So, good job making me have to bite my words. >> Okay, the Blue Hawks. Let's see Rogers with the ball. Trinity's in that zone again. Rogers wide open, >> but the Blue Hawks get a second shot. >> That's huge. Just again controlling the boards. >> Oh, nice job poking it out. But they'll stay t the ball. >> Okay, let's see what the Blue Hawks come out in here. Timeout. 30 second timeout. >> Okay. Well, I think Coach Rogers is going over their zone offense. >> Yeah. and they they're looking to get a a little better
020shot than what they they've taken lately. >> Yeah, I at the end of the first quarter I was talking about how great they were at shot selection, but the second quarter, you know, Trinity's already started to make them kind of get off that those open shots and force them to take a shot that maybe they're not as comfortable with making or just, you know, contested very well contested. Triny already playing great defense, way better defense and great defense in this second quarter. >> Okay, the Blue Hawks come out in man. >> Great job here from Exo just giving no easy lane. >> Ah, you don't need that pop. You're doing a great job defensively. You don't need to reach in. >> Yeah. >> Saw an opening for a steal. Got a little too close. >>
021Honestly, if they just make Trinity hold on to the ball, they're going to feel like they need to force up a shot. It's all you need to do. >> Good job from Treny here being patient. Oh, [cheering] >> good reaction time from the coaches over there. >> Man, Xer just on defense. They do such a great job of not react overreacting to pump fakes and not giving you many lanes to cut when you do make a fake. These teams have played six common opponents. Exer is five and one against those opponents with the only loss coming against Bishop Girtton. Good job getting second chance points here for >> Nicole Melik with the uh rebound off the miss by her sister to pass it inside to Emmy Kay's pass. Nice pass, >> Jessica Melik. >> Blue
022Hawks come back in that press. Good hands. >> Ava Camarada. Good quickness, good hands. >> Good hustle, too. It's not easy to sprint in the full court. Nothing easy. >> Blue Hawks playing man on the out of bounds. Oh, good contest there from Melik. >> Trinity. For the most part, it's one shot and done. >> Yeah, >> they're still playing that high two three zone. >> And you know what, exit when they when they do put a shot on offense, they're not missing a lot, but when they do, they almost always have a second chance opportunity. That's really the difference here. They have to watch on the crosscourt passes. >> Yeah. Triny. I mean, they have some great hands. >> Oh, nice. >> Ava Camarada. Good job getting to her spot. That pump fake was
023nice. She got the defender flying like she was an airplane. >> Nice job. Nice pass. Again, [cheering] the pressure is getting too far up the court. Yeah, >> that back man has got to be able to play defense. >> Yeah, just leaving their leaving their guy, leaving their person um to cover. They're just Treny's taking advantage and making that cut, getting the easy basket. They're not forcing up even an open corner three. They know just drive in, take the easy layup. >> 19-10, four minutes to go in the first half. Oh, >> rebound. >> Good job from Camaretta getting up there. Not to toss on the court, but she almost secured that rebound and extra gets possession after a jump ball. Again, I like Exit there taking the ball up slowly, not rushing anything. Oh,
024>> I think maybe uh Jessica there wanted a foul. A little bit of contact on that shot, but couldn't quite get. It was a clean play in my opinion. Good defense there by Trreny. >> Okay, the Blue Hawks come out in man. Oh, >> nice defense there. >> Action. Oh, jeez. >> I I thought maybe there would be a uh blocking foul there, but man, great hustle there from Exeler. Great job diving on the ground to get it to get that loose ball. Ended up not getting it, but didn't allow Trinity to get out of that pass. >> Thought the refs missed one there on uh >> Yeah, >> Lexi Rogers was definitely fouled trying to bring the ball up the court. >> Yeah, I I thought that should have been a blocking foul, but
025>> ends up going down as a turnover. >> Oh, nice. 19-10 just inside of three minutes to go in the first half. Trinity going fullcourt pressure now. Looks like fullcourt man. Exer's defense is doing a great job of making no pass easy. I mean, Trinity is having half the time to huck it over their shoulder because they they just are trying to get the ball out of their hands. Great job here from Exiter. Nice bucket there. >> Nice bucket by Merry. >> This Trinity pressure is getting to Exit there. Exor's got to find a way to break it. Turn over there. >> Trying to go touchdown and it didn't work again. And I think the difference in this game will be the rebounds from Exit. Just great job limiting to one opportunity for Trinity. Trinity
026found something in between the first and the second quarter. It's the pressure and playing that full court super tight pressure to get Exer kind of off their game. It's rattled Exer a little bit. They haven't had as much success in this quarter that they did last, but they're still doing a great job. Oh, jump ball. >> Yeah, red position. I'm >> trying to decipher their rules on the man cuz they they do a good it's a good switching man. >> Yeah. And you see sometimes they they double the ball. They'll run up. They'll come up quickly and double it. It's very interesting. But it works so well. Good hands there. Number three, Urela. >> Trinity and a man. >> Oh, nice pass. Nice pass by Emmy Kay's. >> That was just great ball movement. Emmy
027Kay's inbounding it to Melik. Then Melik back to KS and K's to uh Nicole Melik for the bucket. Great job finding the open guy. >> That's what I've I I've really loved seeing this game that I can really point out and say it's really working for our offense is we're getting inside and we're taking open shots. Our ball movement is allowing us to take almost wide open shots with no coverage. Great hands there from Lexi Rogers. Lexi Rogers coast to coast. Ah, >> no good. Good rebound though by Melik. >> Oh, thought she was maybe going to hit a Kobe. >> Good steal by Emmy Kay's. >> Nice job passing the ball. [applause] Jessica Ma, good job. She was originally looking to shoot. She kind of got blocked up there. Found Lexi Rogers who is
028open who draws a foul. >> Trinity and their man out of the stack. Oh. Thought maybe XR could almost get the ball back, but >> Oh, nice job. >> Emmy K's will go to the line shooting two. >> Great job by Emmy Kay's there. She she did a great job of seeing that the pass was kind of lazy and slow and she stole it and then drawing the foul to get the free throws. [applause] >> Kayes makes the first. >> Oh, good job. >> Good hustle. She gets the rebound. Jump ball. It's white possession. 2212 with 39 seconds to go in the first half. The Blue Hawks. >> Right now it's the Twins for the Blue Hawks. Uh Jessica has six and Nicole has seven points. So great job. >> Breakaway for Monahan. Basket. [cheering]
029>> MK's almost had the chase down block there. looking like LeBron in game seven on the finals, but not quite. Good job from uh my hand getting the getting the bucket up. >> Blue Hawks slowing the game down. Oh, >> nice dribble move. Oh, didn't go. >> Good hands. >> That was a nice move from Nicole there. I That would have been awesome if she made that. That was an ankle breaker. >> [cheering] >> gets a shot out. >> 2214 Bull Hawks. >> Man, what a first half from Exador. They did just such a great job. You know, they they dominated the boards. That was the story of that first half. Um trying to see the numbers here. The app is really not working with me right now, but the the rebounding for Exod has
030done a great job. They've dominated the boards. They're getting second chance opportunities and they're limiting to one chance for Trinity. So, that's just that's the biggest part of this first half. And then obviously the high percentage shots we're getting. Exit is just driving inside. No one co no one covering them. If they, you know, they'll pass it to the open guy inside. Great job. And then you know right now we're seeing a little bit of sloppy basketball with some turnovers but exit has less than Trinity. Trinity has been turning the ball over almost every hour of possession. >> You know right if I don't think the Pioneers have an answer to the Melik Twins. >> No. Yeah. Not all. I mean, they're like I said, they both are leading exit in scoring with, you know,
031um Nicole has seven and Jessica has six. So, the twins are working that chemistry. >> That's 13 out of 22 points. >> Yeah. I mean, they [screaming] >> better than 50%. >> Yeah. And you know what? Nicole has done great job of getting to the free throw line. She shot four free throws in that first half. That's just a great job by her. Okay, ladies. Well, we have uh Brentwood Wreck and Exit Wreck. Look like they're getting ready to play, but they've got to speed it up here and get him get the game going. You can't wait because they're not going to be able to hold the clock for that long. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Well, we're going to uh take a break. We'll watch the action and we'll be back for the second half.
032Right now at the end of the first half, exit with an eight-point lead, 2214. Stay over. Back on me. Back on me. [cheering] [cheering] >> [cheering] >> Make sure you box out. >> [cheering] >> Back up deep. Back up. >> Back up. >> Hold on. Over. [cheering] Over >> behind me. Over. [cheering] Find your question. [cheering] >> [cheering] >> over [cheering] the wall. Six >> step [cheering] everyone. I got >> for her. Back up. Back up. >> [cheering] [cheering] >> pressure. Yes, heavy. [cheering] All the way. All the way. >> Come here. Come out. Break >> break. [cheering] [screaming] All the way. >> Please join us tonight. earlier tonight hospital assistance for expenses like housing children already The score is the exit of Blue Hawks 22, Trinity 14 as we uh await the start of
033the second half. K, if you're Trinity, Tim, what are you telling your players? You know, in that second quarter, they found something and I think what it was was the pressure. They were applying a lot of pressure on exit. I mean, that fullourt trap where they were just right. I mean, they were on the inbounder. If there was someone within 2 in there, I mean, there was no breathing room for any extra person to be open even for the pass, let alone dribble up the court. So, if I'm Trinity, I'm keeping up the pressure. I'm continuing again. They on defense um they have kind of gone more man-to-man today and I think Exador is kind of beating them on that. I would maybe try a zone, but a zone's tough when you're a fullourt pressure.
034So, >> well, it's actually not all that difficult to go from fullcourt man to then get in and into two a two-3 zone. And that's Trinity's doing an interest. Usually they play a two-3 zone top of the key, but Trinity is extending that zone farther up the court. >> Yeah. >> So, you're right. It doesn't give them room too much room to breathe. I agree with you on the man-to-man press. That worked very well for Trinity. The problem is you don't get in the pressure until you score a basket. Exactly. >> And they haven't scored many baskets. >> And you know what? That's a good point there. I They might have not even They might have been doing that in the first quarter, but they didn't they only scored, you know, eight points. They only
035scored four baskets. Not a lot of opportunity to see that kind of trap and pressure. And you know when they did score, Exiter was quick to get the ball out and they were quick to just pass it and get someone up moving up the court. But you know offensively the biggest thing is they got to unfortunately time is not on their side. Exit is up eight points. You're in the second half. There's no shot clock in high school basketball. But you kind of got to be patient with your shots. In the first half, we saw them rush a lot of those shots. And that's where we saw Exer dominate on the boards, limiting Trinity to one shot per possession. Typically, that shot was not the best shot available or the best shot maybe they could
036taken if they were a little bit more patient, but we saw when they got patient and they had someone cut, they did a great job. Now, a lot of that is on that transition where Exit is kind of playing a high zone. and they're playing it high like you were saying and they have a person in the corner cut to the basket, get the easy bucket. But yeah, Trinity be more patient and they got to get some rebounds. They absolutely have to. That's the only way they can get back in this game. >> Okay, the Blue Hawks come out, man. >> Great feet from Emmy K's. Good job not biting too hard on any of those dribbling moves. >> Good rebound. Perez had really nice dribbling moves and handles there, but Emmy Cage was not
037biting on any of it. Good job moving her feet. Good block. Jessica Mel got her hand on that. The Melo Twins are just they're having a almost as good of a game as you can have it. It's they're both playing so amazing. It's been a great game to watch. Nice cut. >> Right there again. Exit controlling the boards. couldn't get a basket there, but it's they're going if you continue to let them get second chance opportunities, they're not going to miss every single one. Blue Hawks and they press. Good steal. Oh, don't throw it away. They did. Oh, double dribble. Little bit of frustration there from Trinity after that double dribble. just, you know, they had an opportunity, they got a turnover, couldn't capitalize on it. >> Here we go. Lexi Rogers with the ball.
038Looks like Trinity's in their man once again. >> Rogers takes it to the hoop and is fouled. onion. >> That's Aurela's third foul. >> That's [snorts] >> She's in foul trouble. >> Rogers with the first one. I mean, exit their speed and ability to just quickly cut to the basket. That's why they're getting so many free throw opportunities and drawing so many fouls. They're just they're doing such a great job utilizing their speed to get past that man coverage. Great job. >> Good rebound >> again. Another one and done for >> Rogers. Yep. >> Nice ball. >> Uh not a good shot, but good cut. Nice rebound. >> Good hands here. Barilla, great hands. Popped that ball out a couple of times at Lexi Rogers hands. Another rebound for Exit there. Man, >> nice. [applause]
039>> They given up baseline. Take advantage of it. and she overtakes the Twins as a games leading scoreer with eight for Lexi Rogers. Just overall just I mean it's the rebounds like I said at the beginning of the half. If Xer continues to get these second chance opportunities, they're going to capitalize and that's what they just did right there. They miss one shot, they missed two shot, they get that third rebound, that third chance. Lxie Rogers great dribble move to drive inside and get open close shot. And that's what we talked about in the first quarter, those open close shots. They're taking high percentage shots. Just doing a great job of playing overall a great game of basketball. Nice cut there. Good pass inside. That was >> Monahan. >> Man Monahan. Yeah, >> she made
040a great cut there to get that basket. I >> think maybe uh number zero Perez got a hand on that. Looks like maybe the shot was altered a little bit. >> Blue Hawks in that zone trap. >> You know what I'm liking from? >> One, two, two. >> Oh, good rebound. >> Another one and done. >> Exit is doing a great job of keeping their foot on the gas and keeping the pressure there. Great pass. Oh, >> good rebound by Emmy K. >> Man, >> she was in the mix. >> Two jerseys around her and she just still gets the rebound. >> Man, just great job there. >> It's these second chance opportunities that is absolutely killing Trinity. I cannot say it enough. He K's two foul shots. 2716 Bluehawks. Bluehawks back in their man.
041Oo, no moving screen there. I looks like uh one of the Trinity players kind of was moving their feet while saying a screen. Kind of surprised there by the no call. [cheering] Merry going to the foul line. >> Emmy K is by the way 75% from the free throw line today. She's three for four. Great job. She's taken the opportunity uh taken advantage of the opportunity she's been given and obviously can't talk about her defense enough. She's one of the main reasons why the extra defense is so good. >> I agree. One foul shot by Manuri. >> Oh, great speed from Lexi Rogers. Good rebound, Melik. >> Oh, man. [cheering] >> Lexi Rogers. >> Just >> time out. another, you know, another offensive possession where, you know, they're getting more than one chance and they
042capitalize. I feel like I'm almost saying it every single time. They're even getting a shot up. These rebounds are absolutely winning them this game right now. They're getting two, three chances when they do miss, and they don't even miss on the first attempt every time. >> I agree with you. The rebounding is as definitely made a huge difference. >> And again, keeping in mind that Trinity every single time they come down is almost always one and done. You're almost always getting one shot and Xer is getting the rebound or they're making it. And you know, it's it's tough when you know you you can't make every shot. That's why second chance opportunities are so big in basketball. No matter what age you are or you know second chance opportunities are bas in my opinion the
043biggest part of basketball. If you can dominate the boards typically you win the game. You know you see uh exit you know like we said at the beginning of the game they're absolutely hot right now. They're eight and two over their last 10. This is exactly how you want to go into this last stretch of the season. You're playing your best basketball. You're improving every single week. And man, they are just absolutely dominating right now. >> Okay, Blue Hawks back on man. >> Oh, nice drive. [screaming] Pick and roll. [cheering] >> Pick and roll to Jessica Melik. Nice executed really well. Lexi Rogers and Jessica Melik. >> Yeah, just that was picture perfect pick and roll. Great pass. Great catch. Made the shot. Great job. Oh, nice pump fake. Oh, >> by me. >> That's
044her first. Her sister also has one. >> You know, Exer has also played a extremely clean game of basketball as a team. They they don't have a single person with more than one foul. I mean, they're just playing a great game. Five total fouls for the team. Meanwhile, Trinity, you got some players in foul trouble, some player, some players with multiple fouls. Just Xer is dominating on all sides of the ball right now. >> Oh, great pressure here. Merry shooting two. >> 32-9. 3 minutes and 25 seconds to go in the third quarter. >> [cheering] >> And one follow. Good rebound by Jessica Melik. >> Thing about the two Meliks is they can handle the ball also. >> Yeah. >> So if you put a big girl on them, >> they can handle. If you
045put a small girl on them, they're going to post her up. >> Yeah, they do a great job of using their size to their advantage and also their >> nice passing. [cheering] >> Emmy K's >> draws another foul. These will be her fifth and their sixth free throws of the game. >> But as you were saying, coach, they they do a great job of using every single advantage that they have and aspect of their game, their size when it comes to rebounding. Typically, they're the ones dominating the boards for exit. I mean, typically they're the ones in there, you know, getting the ball over multiple defenders and then you obviously have their mid-range game, even their three-point game we've seen tonight. And then their IQ of just how to play basketball, get to the open
046guy. Just great job here. >> [cheering] >> Two foul shots by Emmy Ks. Bluehawks back into the man. >> Oh, Perez. >> Three-point shot by Perez. Oh wow. >> Let's see if Trinity can get some momentum going here. Keep going. >> Oh, nice drive. That was Monahan. And the Pioneers have cut the lead to nine. >> Good timeout here by Axel. They need to kind of slow it down a little bit. Again, we're seeing a little bit of what we saw in uh in the beginning of the second quarter where they got a little too hyped up and a little too antsy. And you know, um I'm sure that's what uh Coach Rogers is telling them right now. Just slow it down. You guys have a nine-point cushion. But Trinity right now, they found some
047momentum in that three-point shot. Got a stop. Capitalized on the opportunity. Maybe they start a comeback here. >> Well, we'll see. I think I agree with you. That was a very good timeout by Coach Rogers. >> Yeah. >> Settle him back down. Bluehawk ball and Trinity coming out in a zone pressure now. >> Oh wow. >> One, two, two pressure. Oh, good job forcing a turnover. >> Oh, another turnover. >> Exo's turning the ball over and hurting themselves. >> Yeah, ex right now they have the lead. They really just have to play not to lose in this game right now. They cannot give this game away. >> Oh, nice steal from any case. Nice pass. Good look. >> Oh, nice close out. >> Ah, you got to block out the shooter. >> Yeah, we're starting
048to see travel. >> Oh, nice jump ball. No, they already >> they shouldn't have allowed that sub. >> The girl wasn't at the bench. They had already handed the ball to the inbounder. You don't allow that sub. >> What Trinity is doing well right now is the boards. They're doing a lot better job limiting X's opportunity to rebound and forcing turnovers. >> That's what they're doing better. >> Yeah. and Trinity just turned it over. It's >> a lot of what we saw in the first half that allowed Exer to get away. Trinity forcing a turnover but giving it right back in that first quarter when they get a little sloppy. Both teams are kind of turning over a lot. That was what would happen. Exer would score a bucket. Trreny turns uh Treny turns it
049over. Exer gives it right back and then Treny can't capitalize off the opportunity. good jump stop. Nice rebound, Jessica Melik. And you know what I mean, right as I was saying, Trinley starting to do a better job on the rebounds. Exer said, "Nope. We're going to get some rebounds ourselves right now. Continue what they've been doing all game and dominate dominating the boards." >> Oh, little bit of a backwards shot there. [applause] >> 40 seconds to go in the first third quarter. 3625 Blue Hawks. You know, as we were talking about that that uh Trinity run that they went on that fivepoint streak, Exit has done a good job of not letting Trinity outscore them in this quarter. They're keeping their lead and keeping that cushion. >> Number 20 May Atley handling the ball and
050she's fouled. followed by number. >> That's the fourth foul on Ailla. >> I don't think that's right. She's not in the game. >> Okay. I was going to say I I [laughter] don't think I saw her in the game. That'd be rough to pick up your third while you're on the bench or your fourth while you're on the bench. >> Good offball movement here. Oh, >> 15 seconds. >> Nice shot. Nice job. [cheering] >> That was May Atley. [applause] >> I don't know what they did. >> Um, >> did you see it? >> I did not. >> They must have stepped over the line on the inbounds because >> seconds to go. Shoot it. >> Oh. Uh, >> so at the end of the first quarter, the Blue Hawks 38, the Trinity High Pioneers 25.
051And that that ended on backto-back buckets there for Exit. And man, I'm not quite sure what that last turnover was, but it was almost three straight buckets. Um, but >> Exiter has just done a great job of capitalizing on any opportunity they're given, whether it's an open shot, second chance points, a turnover, just a great job overall. I mean, they've outscored Trinity in every single quarter. They outscored them by seven in the first, one in the second, and five in the third. I mean, like I said, they when I said that they've kept that cushion, they actually extended it. You know what? Trinity gave had a little bit of a spurt that three-point basket, good drive to the hoop, >> and then the bugaboo came again. Then they turned it over. They would cause a
052turnover and they give it right back to the Blue Hawks. >> They lose all that momentum that they built as uh it's tough for Trinity. I mean, exit, they, you know, can't talk about enough the turnaround they had. I mean, we even said on in the first game we did when they were, you know, 0 and2 or one and two, sorry, they had beaten Portsouth before uh Pinkerton, but you know, we had talked about how they played two of the toughest teams off the jump and that's extremely difficult, especially with how young their team is. So, you know, it's not easy that start, but they have definitely come to and they know what team they are. They know [screaming] their identity and you can see it in the in this stretch of games. >> Perez
053with the basket. Nice pass. Good cut. That's Jessica Melik. >> And she's now the game's leading scorer with 12 points. Just what a mid-range shot. >> And the rebound. And the rebound to her sister Nicole. >> Oh, just a turnover there. >> And Trinity throws it away. You know, I like Nicole Melik bringing the ball up, but they speed her up and she has got to learn to slow down. Change of speed. >> Oh, another rebound. >> Emmy K's. >> Yeah, you know, Exer just as a whole, they sometimes the pressure kind of makes them speed up too much and they try and move push the ball up court when when no one's ready. But just uh >> now, you know, I'm going to say something here. And what I'm going to say is he
054let a big bump go. The referee let a big bump go down in on in the exit front court. >> Yep. >> And then he calls a tickytac foul on the girl. >> If you're going to call a tickytac, then call the big bump that goes along with it. >> Yeah. And that was the one that you and me were both kind of shocked that no blocking foul was called. I mean, she completely blocked Lexi Rogers path. And you know, right there. >> That might have been >> That's a foul, too. >> I mean, holy mackerel. >> That might have been a ball don't lie kind of shot. Same with that one right there. >> Ava Camaretta the basket. >> And they just >> they just teed uh Trinity. >> Oh man. >> Well, you
055know what? And the coach took a seat after that one. I think he was >> Well, he has no choice. >> Yeah. >> Once you get teed, you have to sit down and you're supposed to keep quiet even if you are the head coach. >> You know, I can still see you got some of that fire in you from when you were a coach. You know, those the refs [cheering] really getting it's like almost like I'm still in football on the sideline with coach ball. It's like still the the refs, they just they get the coach out of you. >> Camaretta with the two foul shots and a basket and the Blue Hawks get the ball. So now you the T has just turned into a it's it's already a four-point swing. >> It could
056be a six-point swing. >> Yeah. >> And right now you're down by 17. >> Yeah, that was a >> that was a big technical and you know Exer scored a basket before it. >> Yeah, >> he I guess might have been upset. must have thought maybe Xer took an extra step or I don't really know. I didn't see what he >> I think he was upset with no call on there was no call on Rogers where she got steamrolled. >> Yeah. >> And he probably argued that she traveled or >> whatever. >> And it's like >> well they can't. But you could be talking about a three straight back baskets here for Exer, which would already extend their streak to an eight-point streak if they score a basket here. And oh, I thought maybe she
057was going to pull that three, but Exer just took what was a 13-point game and they took advantage of the opportunities and made it a 17-point game. And this game is slowly slowly getting away from Trinity and then a point of no return. I mean, you look at exit when the when [screaming] a player doesn't have the ball, they're still full sprint trying to get open. But good hands there from Trinity. >> Okay, exit back in. >> Let's see. I think this is about as best of a game as you can ask for to have a pink out kind of game and have a game that has some extra meaning to the people of Extor. That's a, you know, a cancer awareness game. This is about as best as you can do. I mean, this
058is almost a perfect game from Exit. Nice pass. >> Oh, nice cut. Great strength there from uh Jessica Melik. She did a great job. She was on the ground. Didn't have the leverage, but forces the jump. >> 4427. 5 minutes to go in the basketball game. >> Now that's a better job. Nicole under control >> now. Takes it to the [screaming] hoop. >> She gets the ball back. >> Emmy Kay's >> good rebound. [cheering] Jessica Melik >> 14 for her tonight. >> Oh, just Trinity trying to get something to go, trying to get some momentum, but Exader just not letting it happen. absolutely dominating the boards and limiting Trinity. I mean, the as you said, uh, Exit is fifth in rankings. They're tied for fifth with about six other teams and, uh, Trinity is 11th,
059but they're only separated by one game. But Exit is showing that they're one of the top teams this year to look out for and they might raise a banner or add to the banner this year with just how great they've been playing. >> Good pass, Trinity. Uh nice job on the twoonone and a foul. You know, that was a good job there from Emmy K's getting in between the two offensive players, but unfortunately they did a great job of taking advantage of that twoon-one and kind of spreading out too far, drawing the foul and making the basket. >> I I am shocked by that call. I thought maybe I thought she played that pretty cleanly, but I don't know, maybe a little push in the back. >> That was a tough offensive possession there for
060Exer. They did. They had a great pass, couldn't get to go. Great followup opportunity, couldn't get to go, and then they had another miss shot, and they got a fourth opportunity, which is rare, but even tonight, but they couldn't get to go, but that's more than okay. You're up 15. All good. >> Good defense here from Trinity. Good timeout. >> Full time. >> Just slow it down. Nicole uh Melik right there was kind of in a bad spot. She's right by the boundary line and she's got someone right up on her. So, great job by Coach Rogers taking that timeout, getting her player out of danger and uh just being able to maybe get a good um inbound pass here. >> 330 to go. 13 point lead for the Blue Hawks. Do they put it
061on ice? She's telling them to settle down. Do they put it on ice or did they keep the pedal to the metal? >> I wouldn't put it on ice quite yet just because Trinity is on a six-point run. They've scored six straight points, both of them being and ones, which gives them extra momentum than just scoring uh three straight baskets. They've forced some turnovers here. They got a great defensive possession where they didn't really where they didn't allow extra capitalize off of three rebounds. Uh, so, you know, I would maybe score another, you know, basket or two. Um, make maybe take it to a two-minute mark. See how that how the game's looking there and not trying to think about playing it on ice. >> Yeah. They're putting it on ice. She's Oh, >> are
062they cool? They call 5second call. >> Uh, that was I don't even know if Flexi Rogers had the ball for 5 seconds. >> Blue Hawks in their man. >> Great offball movement here from Trinity. Nice pass. >> Good defense there from Camaretta. >> Yes, it was. >> Oh, nice steal. Rogers. I think she felt the defender on her back and didn't want to get blocked. shortened her shot a little bit. >> Merry >> cuts it to 11. >> That makes it eight straight for Trinity. >> Great defense here from Trinity. Absolutely suffocating exit right now. Two and a half minutes to go. >> Fourth for Urella. >> Oh, I think number four Howy got a got a hand on that shot. Trinity's got some momentum right here. They can extend the run to 10 points
063if they get a bucket here >> and they can cut it >> and cut it to uh >> to out of double figures. >> Yeah. And that would be huge. They've almost been double figures this entire second half. And even if you don't end up winning the game, this is just huge for your team as a whole. you know, momentum wise, bring it into the next game. You know, you have some some positives to bring out of this. >> Oh, that's four run Jessica Miller. >> It'd be a shame if she fouled out. Oh, great job. >> Nice play by Nicole Miller. >> Fourthhand turnover. She's got her sisters back and they're just going to slow it down. Take their time. >> Oh, good job not letting that ball get away from her. >> Oh,
064nice defense here from Emmy K's. Trinity kind of burning a little bit too much clock here. >> Possession red. >> Time out. a minute >> and and a half >> 4635 >> right now. Trinity's just, you know, they're they're doing >> they're hanging around. >> They're doing a great job hanging around. And you know, um I said it, you know, at the beginning of the game, Trinity's 0 and three in games to side by less than 10 points. So Exit's done a great job of, you know, not letting Trinity run away with it. But right now in this fourth quarter, we have seen Trinity themselves do a great job of not letting Exit run away, be able to, you know, take the starters out and have to, you know, Trinity's done a great job of
065not having to wave that white flag. This game is not over yet. If they can get a three-pointer here or just a quick bucket and then a quick turnover on the other end, this game could get uh spicy. Bluehawks in a zone. Nice fade. >> Oh, nice pass. >> I thought maybe she'd pass it over uh the person who's cutting his head. Number 12, Gonzalez. Oh, >> cannot turn the ball over here. Got to get it past >> travel. >> Took a little stutter step. >> Ah, that was that was tough. Right on Q. They call that commentaries jinx right there, but >> Blue Hawks back in man. If >> I'm trendy, I'm trying to find my three-point shooters right now. >> Oh, nice hands from Emmy Case. >> Emmy Case >> and great hustle
066to pick up that ball. Ah, MK's smart foul there. Do not let Trinity get a quick basket or get a uh >> Yeah, but now the shooting foul shot. >> They're in the bonus. Just a a tough pass there from Lexi Rogers. I think she she didn't see the defender. Bounce pass. Great defensive play by uh number 12 Gonzalez. Just great job. >> Great job. Great hustle. Get that pass. And you know, Exiter, they luckily she hasn't she didn't make that free throw, but Exer's done a good job of managing this game in this fourth quarter. >> Gonzalez makes one. Timeout. 46 seconds to go. It's a 10-point game. >> Yeah, you know, as I was saying, Exit has done a great job just managing the game. And you know, in this fourth quarter, they
067the main focus has just been not to lose, play not to lose. Um, in the fourth quarter, when you have a double- digit lead, that's more than okay. You're just looking to come out the game with a victory, come out the game, you know, healthy. So, they're they're doing a great job. And I mean, it's been all night just defensive pressure and great job on the defensive boards in this um fourth quarter. Trinity has done a better job on the boards, but at the end of the day, this 10-point difference is going to come down to how many rebounds in the early game Xer was able to get and Trinity's, you know, turnovers. Exer's done great job. They've had a they've had more than a couple, but they did a great job limiting it more
068than Trinity. And, you know, um there will be some things that Trinity can take away from this fourth quarter. They've played a great fourth quarter. They've gotten back into this game and you know what's the best thing to see is they haven't hung their head. They didn't wave the white flag. The And if I'm the coach, the best thing I'm seeing is the players didn't give up. They continued to try to win this game and that's all you can ask in a game like this. >> Touchdown passgers. >> Tyler Ree out there. Nicole Melik. She saw Tyler in the crowd and had to impersonate him. >> 42 seconds, 10-point lead. Melik inbounding. And >> another great pass from one of the Melo twins. That time it's Nicole or no, that time it's Jessica. Sorry. >>
069Bluehawks. The Blue Hawks called timeout before the while the ball was still in the inbounders hands. 40.8 seconds to go. 10-point game. >> Yeah, the a basket here from Exit just you know any sort of if they can get this under 30 seconds on this possession, that's all she wrote. even 35, it's tough to come back from 10 points when you know there's no shot clock and you know you're going to have to start the foul game and exit's been fantastic from the free throw line tonight. I mean as a team they only have three misses on 14 attempts. 11 of their points come from the free throw line. And you know what? That's one of the differences tonight. They're winning by 10 right now. If they don't have a couple of those fouls, this
070game's a lot closer and they could even have this game in the bag for Trinity. But Xer just dominating on all phases of the game right now. Good hands there by uh Perez. Just could not quite just kind of forced it out of bounds. So Xer is more than okay with that. Good job by Lexi Rogers not trying to grab it, not trying to reflex and just causing a turnover. Great job from Mexer here down the stretch. >> 36 seconds to go. Still a 10-point game. Trinity's going to try and foul. Yeah, >> if they don't get the pass. >> Yeah, and they do have a foul to give, I believe. Oh, nice move from uh Nicole Malik right there. 30 seconds to go. >> Exer's doing a great job of uh you know having
071a play for the inbound. >> Perez will pick up the foul there >> and now it's a foul shot. But >> as that as as we were inbounding the ball back to back to back, what I was noticing was Exer has some great plays from the inbound to just get someone open in these situations where you can't turn the ball over. Oh, MK's almost had another rebound for exit there. Oh, >> travel. That's right, man. This has just been I mean, exit from the get- go. They had that quick start where they jumped out to a 12 to a four-point lead. And man, just great game here from Exit. I don't think they've trailed once this entire game. And that's a game. >> Wow. Final score, the Exit Blue Hawks 46, Trinity High Pioneers 36.
072Now, before we get to our players of the game, I just want to remind everyone the next game on TV is Tuesday night. The Exit girls play the Marramac Tomahawks. >> So, you want to make sure you tune in for that one at 6:30. Well, I have my player of the game first for Trinity. >> Yeah. >> What do you think? >> I would give it to uh you know, Monahan. She did a great job 10 points and she was the one making those great cuts that was get uh getting past Xers's you know pressure and getting those open shots. She was really the only one on the offensive side that I could see that I felt was making a extreme impact. But I'm interested to hear who you said. >> Well, I thought it
073was Merry >> Merry. Yeah, she drew off fouls and she had a couple and ones too >> and she had Yeah, exactly. So they >> Now what about the Blue Hawks? I have two I have co-players of the game. >> I think Yumi might be somewhere on the same path here. Um I think the Melik Twins did a both a great job. I am going to give it to uh Jessica Mel number 24. She scored 14, led the game in scoring. Uh, and you know, she dominated on the defensive side of the ball, dominated on the boards. She just overall just had probably a perfect game in my opinion. >> Yeah. And you know who my other one is is not the other me. >> Oh wow. >> My other one is Emmy K's. >>
074That's >> And the reason good foul shooting >> Yep. Five for six. >> If you notice under pressure, she was the person who always took the ball out of bounds. Yeah. >> And inbounded the ball. And as a coach, you really value that. >> I was just about to say that is a that right there is a coach's point of view. You're not just looking me sometimes. I'm looking at, you know, who's making the impact, who's, you know, scoring the most points, but you you're looking at the unsung hero, the people who are doing the little things the best. That That's awesome. >> Yes. So, we had co-players of the game for the Blue Hawks, Jessica Melik and Emmy K's. So, this is Bill Taylor and Tim Hollister >> saying thank you. And don't forget
075next game, Tuesday night against the Marramac Tomahawks, the Exit Girls back in action.
