Heat. [music] Heat. >> [music] >> Heat. Heat. [music] Heat. >> [music] [music] >> Heat. Heat. Heat. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Hey, hey, hey, [music] hey, hey. [music] Great fe there by man. [music] Heat. [music] Heat. [music] to go in. [music] Good evening and welcome to the big gym at Exit High School for tonight's matchup between your Exit Blue Hawk Basher girls basketball team and the Bishop Girtton Cardinals. The Blue Hawks are five and three entering tonight's matchup. winners of five of their last six, but coming off a tough loss against Bedford last week. The Cardinals started slow, but have won their last four. Um, so they come into tonight looking to ride that hut streak. I'm joined tonight by Exit High School's Carson Curtis. Carson, what are your keys, one or two keys to

tonight's matchup? >> Well, exit really fl thrives and they really feel confident when they're good on the boards. So, if Exiter can get good box outs on both sides of the floor on the defensive and offensive side and keeping um Bishop Gurn to only one attempt per drive and have maybe having two, three um on offense, then I think they can really feel confident and get into their groove and start worrying a lot about about like uh the little things and really start getting into their game. >> Absolutely. Hawks feature a balanced attack. Their starters tonight will be junior guard Lexi Rogers, >> junior guard Maya Denine, >> sophomore guard May Atley, and then the seniors Jess Melik and Nicole Melik. For the Cardinals, they feature four seniors in their starting lineup, including Olivia Baker,

number three. Talia Drapo, number 11, Madison Long, number 14, Kaden Rio, number 12, and sophomore starter Haley McGawan. >> And starters for the Blue Hawks, number 10 Rogers. Number 14. Here you see the Hawks getting announced. >> Good crowd tonight here for a Friday night at the big gym. Got the new floor. It's my only my second time calling a game here this season. It's uh it's really neat to see what they did. >> You liking the new floor? >> I I do. I like it. >> We're going to step aside for one minute for the national anthem. [music] Heat. [music] Heat. [music] Heat. Heat. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Carson, to reiterate your point, most nights uh the Hawks really do have a size advantage, but but tonight I think Girtton will have them

a little bit on the height, so rebounding will be extra I mean, yeah, especially with Olivia Baker at Bishop Gern at 6'1. That's uh that's an extra inch at exit. And that's not only their tall players, they also have Laura Marino at 5'11 and Talia Dropu at 5'112. So, they definitely have a good height advantage on exit. So, I think the key important is boxing out because getting rebounds isn't all about height here. >> Good point. >> It'll be fun to see who wins tip. We have Melik and Baker taking the tip >> and BG will control >> shot up and there's that first rebound for the Hawks. [cheering] Lexi Rogers takes it out to Melik down low. Reverse layup and good. [cheering] That was Nicole Melik and the Hawks are going to put pressure

on the Cardinals right off the bat. Yeah, it's a good layup by Nicole. Now on the defensive side, >> that's going to be an and one attempt >> and that is Drapo, the 5'11 senior forward. >> And the foul will be on Lexi Rogers, number 10. >> So, she'll convert on the three-point play the oldfashioned way. And here the Cardinals are going to press as well. Melik will take it up. That's Denine. Denine inside to Melik. Good pass. >> Nice pass inside for the layup. >> The exit did a great job there at breaking their press. >> Here you have the pressure. >> Looking for the signal. It's going to be Cardinals ball. Last touch by the Hawks. Haley McGoen will take up the ball. >> Cardinals set up their offense. That's a three-point attempt

off the back of the rim. Tipped around. Rebounded by the Cardinals. That's Baker inside. Back outside to Rio. Rio resets, uses the screen, kicks it right, driving inside [cheering] is McGawan [screaming] and gets it to fall. >> Good take. >> Hawks [screaming] pass right into trouble there. They're going to have a jump ball. So that possession will stay with the Hawks >> and Coach Rogers is going to sub early here. >> I think Ava came in for a quick play on offense and then got subbed out. >> Yep. >> Maybe for that press break. >> Yeah. [cheering] >> Good guard, good dribbling. That's Rogers from the corner. Short rebound to Girtton. The Hawks will press even after the miss. >> And they reset on offense. BG swings it around. >> Good ball movement. >> Here's

McGawan out top >> to the corner. That's a three and that's going to be long. Tipped out of bounds. Cardinals. That'll be Bluehawk ball. Looks like BG is going to stay in that press. Let's see how uh exit breaks it. >> That's Atley to Rogers. They break it quickly. They have numbers going the other way. Short rebound. Cardinals going back the other way. >> Fast break. BG. >> Converts. [cheering] >> That's Drapo. Atley has some room. Puts it up back rim. Rebound. Melik can't get it to go. Tipped loose. [cheering and applause] Touched out of bounds by the Hawks. Nope. That's a foul on the arm. That's going to be on Atley. And Coach Rogers is going to want a quick timeout. So uptempo early. Both teams pressing. Both teams kind of really trying to

break out. um >> fast breaks on rebounds. They're getting the ball and they're pushing it both sides of the court. >> Absolutely pretty even so far with the rebounding matchup. We've seen each team get second chance opportunities. >> Coach Rogers seems to be gesturing about maybe that that press break. Didn't like the way it was set up that last time. coming out strong for Bishop Girden. We have uh Talia Drapo uh on Bishop Girden. She has five so far in the first three minutes. Good start for her. Rio will bring it up. Right hand dribble. Kicks it to the corner now. Finds a man inside. back out for three and side rims it outlet to Atley. Atley to Melik. Melik with a jab step. Left hand spins >> to her sister in the corner. Now

she drives [screaming] baseline. Step back. Nice job. >> That's Jess Melik. And the Hawks will pressure again, but they're willing to give up that open three. >> And that's Rio who gets it to go. >> That was some great ball movement by Bishop Dur. I don't think anyone on that possession held the ball for more than a second. >> Here we have Denine driving in and draws the block. >> Drapo doesn't like the call. And so we'll have baseline out of bounds play for the Hawks. >> Ava Camarado will be subbing in >> for May Atley. >> Inbounds Melik. She'll pull up the three. Camarado with the rebound. >> Good pass. >> Jump shot. That's Nicole Melik. >> And that brings it to 8-10. Girtton. and >> they set up the half court offense. >>

Drives off her leg to the Hawks and they'll push it back the other way. >> Rogers thinks about going inside now. Drives herself left hand gathers. Kicks it back out to Camarado [cheering] inside. Last touch by Girtton and that'll be another baseline out of bounds for the Hawks. We have Maya Simeone coming in for Jessica Melik. >> Exit seems to be subbing a lot early. >> Coach Rogers will use a big chunk of that bench for sure. >> I like to see it. That means they got a strong depth to their game. No matter who they put in on the bench, everyone's been performed well so far. It also helps if you're going to put pressure, you can really expend that extra energy knowing you have that full bench to work with. >> Yep. >>

Here's Melik out top. It's Camarado. Camarado. Nice give and go to Melik inside. >> Great vision by the junior there. >> Here's Rio. to the corner. >> That's Bridget Hill back out top now inside. >> Tipped away. >> Good defense. >> Great hands by the the junior Lexi Rogers there. >> Bishop will take it out of bounds. >> Dangerous pass inside and it is tipped away to the Hawks, but the Cardinals get it back. Rio pulls up. That's long. We're going the other way >> right at the top of the the net. The string. >> Oh, is that what it was? It hit the little support thing there. >> I wondered. I was looking for a foul off the ball. >> The side and the top of the backboard are actually in play now. It's

just if it hits one of the strings supporting the hoop. >> Right. Hawks will break the press. Melik inside, pulls up short, gets her own rebound, goes up again and draws the foul. >> And there's that second point opportunity just getting rebounds and using their height advantage and their strength down low. And now they get two shots to go up by two. >> [applause] >> Melo converts the first and the second and it's a two-point Blue Hawk lead. Rogers steals the inbound, left-hand dribble into traffic, kicks it back out. Camarado from the corner. That's a two-point foot was on the line and now it's a four-point lead in the Hawks will press. >> Good shot by Camarado. >> Good take. >> Oh, Euro step inside. Haley McGawan. That's a pretty take. >> Breaks the press

fast again. Exit >> and all the way down. >> That's Jessica Melik who gets that to go. Great touch at the rim >> and we have a full timeout by the Cardinals. So, we're really seeing your your your key right off the bat here. Second chance opportunities, using their strength inside, using their height to really break that press. The Hawks getting out and running, using that full bench um to sub in and out and get fresh legs. You got to like what you see this early quarter from the Hawks. And besides for the deep two by Ava C by Ava Camarado, all of their points have been inside or in the paint jump shots. So like like I said, the the paint their paint game is really they're well established in what they like to

go do. >> Absolutely. And it's not your classic like boxing uh excuse me, posting up in the paint. It's really like coming off of cuts and giving goes and finding that that cutter through the lane for the quick for the quick layup. So, you got to like the ball movement um out out of the girls tonight already. And they're they're quick out of the huddle. They they want to keep this momentum going. >> Girtton will sub off the timeout >> and it's going to be Rio bringing the ball up. She's met at the half court. Kicks it down to the corner. That's McGawan trapped in the corner now by Melik. She gets it out to Long. Long across to Rio. Rio to the opposite corner. That's Drapo inside. And now Girtton will back off that

press. try to set up in the half court. I think that's probably a response to how how they were breaking that with ease early >> and how quick too. >> No trouble there. >> Camarado across tipped but out of bounds. That's going to be off the Hawks. >> Cardinals ball. McGawan will inbound to Rio. >> Atley at the scorers bench ready to come back in at the next whistle. Pump freight across. >> Good in and out. >> Just can't get it to fall and it's Melik with the rebound. She's going to try to push the pace. >> She finds Denine out top. Good doubt. Good D. >> Now Melik from the corner. She'll take a three. What a shot. Gets it to go. >> Nicole Melik >> for three. Gives the Hawks a five-point lead

here now with a minute to go. >> Great work by Melik. >> Rio out top. Dribbles once now inside. Set shot there using [cheering] the glass. That's Alena Scrogggins. and Rogers will push it back the other way. Crossover dribble. >> 40 seconds left in this corner. >> Uses the screen to Melik on the baseline. She's doubled Rio. And we're going to get a quick jump ball call there. And that'll go to the Cardinals >> as Atly subs in for Camarada. Girtton will inbound. The Hawks will press >> right into traffic. Gives it up and back out top to Rio. Rio to McGawan. Back to Rio. Hesitation there. Reverse the ball to the opposite corner. >> Then back across to Rio. Open look out top and she swishes the three-pointer. Nana with 8 seconds to go.

>> That's her second so far. >> Melik peaks up at the clock. Sees how much time she has. Kicks it to her sister. Just a bit long. So, we're going to end the first quarter here at the big gym. Tied at 19. >> Pretty even game. >> About as even as it could get. Uh rebounding, I would say, pretty even as well. Both teams sort of have that same look trying to give a little bit of pressure. >> Right now the two Melik sisters have 17 of Extor's 19 points. >> What a great showing from them in the first quarter. We have Jessica Melik with eight and her sister Nicole with nine. >> And as you mentioned, aside from that three from the corner, a lot of those points coming off cuts in the paint.

um using the glass, using their size, getting offensive rebounds. >> She had the nice give and go with Camarado. >> And on the other side of the ball on Bishop Girtton, we have Talia Drapo with seven of her own leading her team. >> All around, it's a great game for basketball. 019Can't get it to go. Rogers will rebound. >> Offensive rebound. Here we go. >> Stuck underneath. Tries to get it up. Can't get it to go. And Girtton will push back the [screaming] other way. Rio with pace. Takes to the lane, then kicks it out. And that's a three by McGawan. Melik inside. Short rebound. Girtton >> to the corner. Good take. And that's an and [cheering] one. >> And that's Drapo. >> Looks like the foul's going to be on Jessica. >> Maya, sorry. >> Denine with the foul. Yep. >> [cheering] >> Drapo has been huge for for the Cardinals offensively here. The Hawks are going to have to find a find an answer for her. >> Inside now to Rogers. Atley, nice rebound. >> Offensive rebound >> and Rio will take it the other way

>> in the corner. Rio >> McGowan up top >> back to Rio >> inside. Give and go. Nice pass, but the shot was just long. Atley will push it out. That ball tipped by Girtton. It'll be sideline out of bounds for the Hawks. Girtton will use the opportunity to sub. >> Exiter will stick with her starters. >> Here's Jess Melik to her sister short for three. Baker pushing it back the other way. Loses control for a minute. Puts it up. Can't get it to go. It looked like it looked like we were going to break out for the Hawks the other way, but it's kicked and now to Girtton. And that's going to be McGawan with the right-handed laying in. >> That'll be nine for her. So far, >> it's really been Drapo and McGawan.

So far for for Girtton. >> Definitely. If there was uh someone I'd want to guard or put my two best defenders on or keep an extra eye on, it'd be McGawan and Drapo. >> Nice scoop layup. just strong and the Hawks can't gather the board. Rio to the corner. McGawan loses her handle. Atley scoops it up to Melik. Breaking up fake. Can't get it to go. And now Girtton will push back the other way >> in the corner. >> Rio's shot is short. >> Nicole pushes it back the other way. Okay, Rogers >> uses the glass, but strong. >> Oh, board. >> That's where they like it. >> There's Nicole Melik with the put back. >> That brings her to double digits. >> Here's McGawan. Uses the screen, picks up her dribble, kicks it over.

That's Rio. >> Rio out top to Longside. We'll have subs coming in. >> Ava Camarada and Ella Campbell. >> Long's going to shoot two. That foul was on Atly down low. I couldn't tell if it was on the floor or on the shot. They called it on the shot. >> That's Atley's second. Here's Lexi pushing the pace. >> Long a pest defensively. Camarada inside now to Lexi. >> Revision by her. Can't quite corral it. >> Kick out to Rio >> inside to Phil Brick and >> that's going to be an and one >> by Baker. >> Olivia Baker strong inside. >> Girtton's on a little bit of a run here. They're now up nine. 3021 with a chance to make it a double- digit lead if Baker can convert on this three-point play. >> And

she does. And just like that, a tie game has gone to a 10-point deficit now. And the Hawks are going to have to regroup here a bit. >> Up top, Ava Camarado. And we have a push by Madison Long. >> Yeah, Long is tenacious on defense. You saw her really giving Rogers a hard time the last time down the court. Little too handsy that time. >> Atley inbounds to Melik. Melik in the corner. Thought about it. Now drives back out to Deen. Dean will get it to the paint. She kicks it out to Ella. >> Ella back to Dean >> trying to get it inside to Atley there. >> She gets it back and out pass the >> Denine will shoot the three. That's long. [cheering] >> They're going to have a foul on the

Hawks. >> Ella Campbell, the freshman. >> I have to say from my perspective, that looked like a a clean a clean steel, but the ref saw something we didn't see. Good attempt by Camarada with the rebound bringing it up the court. >> That's Atley now. She'll pick up her dribble. [screaming] Going to need some help here. >> Melik Campbell with the shot. Rebound. Campbell offensive rebound and the foul. Second chance points. You got to love Atley seeing Campbell setting that screen, curling around her and getting that good look. Just fouled. Atley's first shot is long. >> Lexi Rogers subbing back in for Camarada. >> And the shooters touch gets the roll. And the Hawks have down to single digits again. now looking to step up on D here and see if they can continue to

cut into that lead. >> That's Philick with the drive. Nice layup. Think those are her first points of the game. Atley now breaking out the other way to Lexi. Lexi dribbles away from the double team. Back to Atley to Rogers. Rogers left hand through the lane. Little strong there and Girtton will rebound and press back and push back the other way. Long can't get the rebound to go. Campbell with the rebound. Atley sees Lexi pulls up at the baseline for two and the Hawks will retreat. Girtton now setting up in the half court. That's Rio. Rio to Philick. Philick inside to Baker. Melik gets a hand on it and that's going to be a jump ball to Girtton. Ella Campbell will come out for Maya. Bishop Girtton to take it out down low. Long inbounding

it up top. Rio kicks it out to the wing. Drive. Nice drive by Baker there. >> Really using her height through the lane. >> Like I said, Bishop Gurn has some height to them. >> It's definitely going to be top tough on the drives. Here's Melik inside to her sister. Jess a little strong there. That's Drapo coming down hard. You really got to like the strength with which she goes to the hole. >> Allley on the wing now up top inside. >> Steal by Rio. Jump ball. >> Jump ball. Possession. Hawks on that now. >> And Atley's going to catch a breather. Camarada back in to inbound. Inbound to Roger. >> Blocked by Baker. >> Blocked by the 6-1 Baker. She drives the other way. Little bit strong, but there's Drapo with the rebound. She

can't get it to go. >> Loose ball controlled by the Hawks. No touch last by Girtton. and Girtton will press. >> That'll be a foul on Philbrick. >> That'll be her first. >> Looks like the Cardinals are going to stay in their press. Luhawks running their inbound play. >> Inbound to Melik looks to her left, sees Denine in the lane. Turn over the other way. >> Philick back to Rio. McGawen back for the shot. McGawen. Rebound by Roger. >> Bringing it up the court. >> Denine had an angle inside the Camarada for a minute, but then the >> curtain defender closed quickly. Exactly. >> Good sportsmanship by Maya. >> Picks up the foul on the other end. That's going to be McGawan from the line shooting two. And and with that, McGawan is in double

digits with 10. >> Good performance from her so far. >> She plays with excellent tempo. >> Here's McGawan second shot >> and gets the shooter's touch. Melik takes it inside, dribbles it off a Girtton defender, and it'll be a baseline out of bounds for the Hawks. >> Camarada to take it out. >> She sees Melik at the free throw line. Jumper is long. Gets her own rebound, though. Now from the corner out top to Atly. Atley to Nicole Melik. Sees Rogers in the corner for three. Back irons rebound inside. Atley >> second chance points. >> Tough foul on the other end. >> Girtton will go to the line for a chance to convert another three-point play here. You know, Atley is listed at 56 and a guard, but she certainly plays a lot bigger than

that down low. That's the second or third offensive rebound where she's really boxed out and gotten herself another opportunity. And >> with the foul from Jessica, she comes out of the game for Ella. That ball knocked away by the Girtton defender Philbrick. >> We have 10 seconds left in the second quarter. >> The Hawks will set up something here to likely try to get the last shot. >> That's Melik drives, kicks it to Atley open on the wing for three. Back iron rebound inside. We're going to have a jump ball with 6 seconds left going to the Cardinal. >> See Exit decides to get up, make sure they don't get any easy shots. >> So, what was a tie game at the end of the first quarter has turned into a 4226 lead for the

Cardinals. and and that quarter was just really about Bishop Girtton taking momentum, getting some turnovers, converting some three-point plays. The Hawks by by no mean feel out of it momentum wise or effort or or or talent-wise. They just have to kind of regroup and come back and get back to doing what they do best. >> I just really think the difference between that second quarter as we went into the second quarter tied both teams at 19 was I think the Cardinals were just converting on a lot of a lot of their shots. uh a great high percentage shooting rate from all around the uh court. I saw most of their threes went in. >> They had a great show from uh McGawan. McGawan was making some shots outside. She was making some shots inside. Another

great quarter by number 11, uh Drapo. Um but yeah, looks like those two on the Cardinals are going to be the ones to stop if Exad wants to keep them from scoring another 42 next half. So, let's see what coach Kaen Rogers can draw for the Hawks at halftime and will step away will rejoin at the start of the third quarter. Wow. remind you contest. World back home. We also love basketball and All right, we're back here. Just a minute to go before we resume action here in the third. Carson, what's your take on the first half and what adjustments would you like to see the Hawks make in the second half here? >> I think uh both teams are having a great game as on offense. Uh exit in two of their last three

wins put up 46 and 52 as they have 26 in the first half of this first game of basketball. So they're on track to score the amount of points which they usually score. So they're having a solid uh game at offense. Uh looking at the Cardinals on the other hand, three of their last four wins have been 44 points, [screaming] 45 points, and 42 points with 42 in the first half in this game. They're having an incredible game. And I think it's been a little tough as I would like to see a little bit more pressure on McGawen and Drapo as they've both put up double digits, both at 12 points as I think those 24 points combined with both of them are half of the points of uh the Cardinals. So, I think if

we can slow them down a bit, we can keep out in their roll cuz I mean, so far in the first half of this basketball game, they have more points than three of their last four wins the entire game. So, yeah. >> So, in other words, Exit is doing what they do and Gerten is just playing above and beyond what they would typically do offensively. So, maybe, you know, maybe uh things seek their level here in the second half and the Hawks can get back in this. >> Yeah, XR is having a solid night on offense. I think they're good. They're getting their second chance point opportunities. They're converting on most of them. Uh yeah, I guess I would just uh like to see the pressure on those two girls. >> Absolutely. >> And here

we have Rio, certainly the court general for the Cardinals. >> And Rio herself has six. >> She's going to get an open look here from the wing. Back. Rim Zippa McGawan with the rebound. Second chance opportunity for the Cardinals. >> Back to Rio. Corner. Baker. >> Baker drives in. Another rebound. >> Can't get her second opportunity to fall and Lexi will push it ahead. That's Maya Denine. Oh no, sorry. That's Melik. Melik with the crossover dribble into the lane. Back out to Atly. Thinks about the three then drives. >> I think uh Exod got lucky on that last one. Second chance points with Baker down low. Usually she can convert those, but yeah. >> Atly inbounds to Rogers. >> Screen by Maya. Corner. Melik. >> Melik's going to drive baseline. Fouled and will go to

the line shooting two. >> As you noted in the first half, that really is where the Hawks like to get their points, right? points in the paint. >> They've been to the line themselves a couple times here. Looks like they're pretty good at converting, too. >> Melik will convert on the first >> and the shooters touch gets the roll, converts on the second. Here we have McGawan now taking it up to Long. Long inside to Drapo. They're going to get [crying] Nicole for the foul there. >> Jessica Melik's four for four at the line so far tonight. >> Great showing there for her. >> Inbound to Rio. She's going to shoot the three from the wing. Front rims it. Lexi Rogers with the rebound and pushes the pace the other way. >> Yeah. And >>

Rogers drives. Nice screen by Denine. That ball off a Girtton defender. >> Rio for Bishop Girtton. All of her points have come from three-pointers. So, it seems like that's where she's most comfortable. Uh, as the general of the field, as the point guard, she likes to bring it down and then a good pass and kick and she's there for a spot-up shooter. That's Melik using the glass. >> Rio pushes the pace the other way. Baker lowers the shoulder, drives across the lane. [cheering] >> And that's going to be another shot in the foul for Girtton. >> That's three for Maya. Two more and she's out. What do you think should be one? >> Another thing I'd like to see for uh this exit team is besides for uh Melix uh the rest of the team,

they've been a little quiet today, but I know each and every one of them can put up some big numbers. >> Nice job on the press break. Camarada there >> forces it inside a bit to the double team and we're going to have a jump ball. Possession is going to go to Girtton. That's what that fullcourt pressure will really do. It just speeds things up a little bit. Now the decision making isn't quite as crisp. >> Leads to the turnover there. Here's Drapo. She lowers the shoulder inside. >> She's strong. [cheering] >> And that's another second chance off of a drive. And the the Hawks are trying to match physicality here with Girtton really with with Baker and Drapo their their strength inside and instead it's it's turning into fouls. >> Yeah, I just feel

like they're getting to the hoop pretty easy. Drapo. She's using her strength and uh ability and agility to just take one dribble and really drive in and either I mean so far the only way they've been able to stop her from scoring is with the foul which ends up with two. >> When she lowers her shoulder in the lane, there's really not a lot you can do so far here tonight. >> There's Melik. Left hand dribble in. Baker takes it away. She's going to push it out. Long to Drapo. She gets it to go again in traffic. >> Hawk's going to get it across the timeline here. We're going to have a timeout. 20 seconds. >> The Rio uh defense by Rio keeping Camarado from getting past half court causing Exo to call a timeout.

That'll be their second. >> [snorts] >> So, we're really seeing Girtton strength inside here in the second half. >> And as much as the Blue Hawks are trying to match that, you got to be able to batch it without fouling. >> Indeed. I think Rio has had some threes like I've mentioned before, but besides that, I think their game style to exit has been pretty similar as they like to score a lot of their points with their big man uh between Baker and um Baker and Drapo. I think those two have been in the paint and they've been strong. So, I think if we can keep them out of the paint, it'll definitely keep away most if not all of their points this uh this game so far. >> Here's Nicole over to May Atley.

May out top to Jess Melik. Jess crossover dribble. She kicks [screaming] it to the corner to Lexi Rogers. Rogers stuck here without her dribble. [cheering] And that's going to be a turnover. >> 5second. >> What I have like seeing is I don't think there have been much turnovers by either team this game. So far >> has been a clean game. >> I think maybe besides for fast breaks or maybe like good looks. So like a give and go or a cut where the pass was there but then it wasn't there anymore. I think besides that, I think the uh turnover game has been going great for both teams. That's Baker inside. >> And with that, Baker gets their her double digits. So now we have three players on the Cardinals for double digits. >> Do

you have fouls over there for the Hawks? And we know we have Denine with three. >> Denine's the only one in foul trouble. Yeah. >> No one else has. The only other player with two fouls for the Blue Hawks is May Atley. >> Okay. The Hawks will press. Girtton will break it and Rio will take it out top. >> Signals to Drapo that she'd like the screen. That's going to be a little pick and [screaming] roll play. Drapo bodies inside. >> Atly pulls it away. >> Good rebound. Like you said, she's small, but she's mighty. That's her what, fourth, fifth rebound on the game. And I don't know if there's many players on the court that's gonna that's gonna muscle the ball away from Talia Drapo, but May May Atley did it there. >> We

have a warning on the Hawks there that they touched the ball. I thought it was inadvertent after the basket. >> Who scored that last one? >> That was Rogers. >> Rogers. Looks like a foul on Melik. >> Yeah, her momentum just took her into Baker there. You saw her apologize. >> Great sportsmanship by accident of this game. >> I saw Maya got a foul earlier in the game. She helped the Cardinal player up. >> Plenty of green banners for sportsmanship hanging in the extra high school gym. That's certainly something that the Hawks are known for statewide. >> Love to see it. >> Scrogggins fakes it, kicks it. That's going to be McGowan the sharpshooter [cheering] and Ella Campbell with the rebound. Lexi wants to push the pace. >> Ella outside now to Atly. Give and

go attempt and that's going to be a kick. >> Rare miss from McGawan down in the corner. >> [snorts] >> Melik will come out. >> So baseline out of bounds on the kick. >> The Hawks will start in their box inbound play. >> Nicole, sorry. That's Jess inside. And there's another rebound from May Atley. >> McGawan calls out the play. >> Kicks to Rio. Rio back around out top. Sets up at the free throw line now to McGawan. Reverses the ball inside. Scrogggins. Scrogggins back out to Rio. >> Great ball movement from everyone here. >> Scrogggins now setting the screen. Pick and roll. >> Little slip screen there. >> Good poke by Maya to the corner. McGawan >> inside back to Scoggins shot. She She thought about it and then it looked like she was

going to dive and then she couldn't dive and then almost was there. >> Yeah, almost saved it. So, here's where you'd like to see this the Hawks really get a good shot selection here. >> You know, you had the stop off uh defensively. Now, let's see if we can convert that to some offense. I mean, so far from what I've seen this game so far, um, out of all the starters, the sophomore, uh, Atley, I think a good reason she starts is her aggressiveness on offense and defense, getting down, um, on the ground, getting boards, um, taking it to the hoop, picking up fouls, >> and that was the freshman Ella Campbell with the rebound, kicks it to Atley. >> So, some some good contributions from the underassman there. Atley now shooting two >> first

attempt is strong. >> See if she adjusts here for the second. >> Strong again, but Hawks with the rebound. Lexi uses the glass. Can't get it to go. [cheering] >> Quick jump ball. >> That'll stay Blue Hawks possession. >> And that was another offensive rebound by Exiter to kick it out to Roger. Atley will inbound. Hawks set up in a box >> in the corner. Roger. >> Good block by Rio. Hawks just a little late in the passing lane there. There's Ella Campbell with the steel. >> Kicks it out to Lexi. Lexi, nice job with the left hand. >> That'll be Rio's second. >> Lexi here shooting two with a minute and a half to go here in the third quarter. Roger >> inside. We have Melik and Campbell. >> Converts the first, but not

the second. Rebound to the Hawks. >> Offensive rebound. >> This is how they're going to get back in the game tonight. >> And this is their game. This is why they're having uh a solid game so far for both teams. They're having a great game. I mean, they're the exit Blue Hawks right now are doing what they've been doing all year on offense and the record is 5 and three and showing that um getting inside and these second point opportun second point opportunities have won them games so far this season. >> Absolutely. >> Now they're going to be in the bonus here. So, they're going to shoot shoot for the rest of the way here. Rogers converts them both from the Hawksville pressure. >> Rio gives it up to Baker >> and Bishop Girtton. Coach

Olivia Orlando a little frustrated there calling the foul or excuse me calling the timeout. She wants to talk it over. This is going to be a full timeout. So we we've seen a little run here by the Hawks. It's really, you know, converting defense to offense, offensive rebounds. Anything else you're seeing as part of this part of this little run? >> Uh, third quarter itself, they were down by 20, now down by 11. A nine-point lead. Another one of those and you're down by two. >> There you go. See if we can keep some of this momentum. I'm wondering what the exit coach is talking about is now they're in bonus. Do you think they're going to drive a lot more and I guess try to get to the line more knowing that they're in

bonus and they can get some easy free throws here? Yeah, I was just kind of thinking the same thing. When you do the the sort of calculus of the score and the time remaining, best way to get a comeback is with the clock stopped. So, if you can get to the line Yeah. >> Um and chip away at a lead without the clock running, that that really could be the key here tonight. >> Indeed. >> Rio Rio >> up top togg [screaming] here. And that's going to be a foul on Ella Campbell. McGawan's going to go to the line >> for her third time at the line this game so far. >> Ava Camarado checking in >> for Melik. McGawan converts on the first. Now shooting her second and gets it to go. Rogers. >>

Fast take. >> We're going to have a push. >> And here we go again. She's at the line with the clock stopped. Rogers here. And it seems like with her speed, she can she can almost draw those fouls almost at will. Both teams now in the bonus, so we'll see who can win the free throw battle here. >> Rogers converts. >> That is going to be Rio's third foul. >> Keep an eye on that as Rogers hits the second >> as she's been an important point guard for this team. The Hawks will pressure but not press. >> Camarado on Rio. >> Rio to Baker. Back out top to McGawan. McGawan to Rio. Scoggins in the corner. Up top. There she is. Strong drive but great defense by Ella Campbell the freshman. Picking up the rebound

is Ava Camarada. And coming in, Simeone pass back to Ava Camarada and Ella Campbell >> just can't corral it. >> I I really love that no call down the other end. You know, you you had uh Drapo just, you know, thundering through the lane. Campbell sets her feet, >> doesn't doesn't reach in. Exactly. Hands up and puts pressure without without fouling. >> And Ella Campbell, the freshman, she is 510. 510. She is the second tallest on the exit Blue Hawks after Jessica Melik at 6 ft tall. So I think her as she's uh getting older as a freshman she is right now. I think she's going to make a big impact as she continues to uh grow and improve her game. >> That's a real dagger there by Philick banking in the three pretty much

as time expires. And we're going to have a 15-point lead for the Bishop Girtton Cardinals. 5641 here as we start as we take a break here between the third and fourth quarter. >> Indeed, >> Carson, you've done some officiating >> in in your past. Uh if you want to stay involved in the game and make a positive impact, becoming a high school sports official is a great way to continue being a role model. >> Interesting. >> Officiating helps you demonstrate key qualities like impartiality, fairness, and courage while ensuring the integrity of the sports we love. >> Yes. As a high school sports official, you play a crucial role in teaching and enforcing the rules of the game, helping athletes and coaches maintain a fair and safe playing environment. Plus, new officials have the chance to

make an immediate difference in their communities. If you're ready to get started, learn more about becoming a high school sports official at www.nhiaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.org. So, I've seen you officiating what in the 3v3 league this uh this uh fall for EBB. did some officiating for um exit junior baseball leagues on the diamondsdeed throughout the district. >> What's your what's your favorite sport to officiate? >> I'm going to have to say basketball. I mean, I've always liked basketball and the sport itself a little bit better than baseball. I like the fast-paced games. I think there's a little bit more physicality. Um, and I like all the momentum is you're constantly sprinting and running and shooting and getting low and denying and just the IQ in basketball. >> All right. >> I feel like you're also um when you're

on the court, you're always involved, which I think is a nice part about basketball. So, I think it almost uses more of my brain power uh refing basketball games. >> Fair enough. So, I guess it keeps me more in like I guess baseball sometimes I'll go and I'll look at a cloud. I'll be like, "Oh, the cloud looks good today." What is that dog man up there? >> I'm going to pretend that you're not rage baiting me knowing the baseball guy that I am. I'll let it slide. >> Here we go. >> Just giving you a laugh here. >> Gen pushing [cheering] it the other way inside to Baker for the two. >> I can tell Baker doesn't like baseball. >> There you go. Melik drives to Atley. Atley back out top to Melik. Jab

step. She goes baseline. Uses her strength. Can't quite get the one. >> Great take, but that's an offensive board by Melik. >> Andine. >> Good. >> She rips it away, but the ball's loose to Girtton. >> And that's going to be fouled. The Blue Hawks. >> That's a loose ball foul. I think that's going to be on >> Atley. >> That's her third as they said. So now she is in foul trouble alongside Maya Denine. Only at three though with seven minutes left. They seem to be good. See, look at the defense here by Atley. >> Yeah, she is tenacious >> guarding up their point guard. >> That's long shots long. And that's a good box up on Maya. I don't know if you saw, but after uh here after Madison Long took the three,

she immediately got behind her, which means she couldn't get her own rebound, which helped her teammate get the defensive board there. >> That's a good pickup. >> Jab, step, Melik through the lane, draws contact, and she'll shoot two. first team first >> strike one. >> We have a score update from the boys over in Nshawa. Bishop Girtton leads the Hawks 3524 with 5 minutes to play in the third quarter. >> Lowscoring game over there. It is the defense. >> Love a defensive game. Meanwhile, a somewhat high-scoring game here. Certainly Girtton scoring above their average. >> Exit right about at their average. >> Yeah, exit just about a little less than 10 points off of their average. >> Certainly can get there. Solid game. >> Drapo can't get the turnaround jump shot to go. >> Rebound

from Melik over to Roger who will take it for two. [cheering] Roger for two and that'll get her to double digits in herself besides the Melik. She will be the first player on accident to get into it away inside to Rogers. >> Rebound Atley again. Melik driving. Kick to her sister up the top of the key. Screen by Maya on the right side and a three-pointer and that'll fall short. >> Aggressive attempt by Maya, but that'll be a foul on the Blue Hawks. Camarado will sub in here for the Hawks. Atly get a breather >> and the Hawks will pressure the ball. >> Drapo thought about it for a minute. >> Picks up her dribble. Baker in the corner, gets it back out to Rio and she's going to reset things here. >> Roger honor

screen by Baker. Rio driving to the basket in the foul. Looks like it's going to be on Melik. Rio goes to the line here shooting two. >> Swishes the first. >> Brio's first attempt here at the line today. Looks like we have Atley coming in. >> Rebound Camarada >> out ahead to Denine. Denine lowers the shoulder. Rio tips it away but off her own leg. Out of bounds. That'll be a baseline out of bounds for the Hawks. >> And Atley comes in for Maya here. >> Atly will take it out of bounds down here below the rim. >> Trouble getting it in. Tipped away. And they will reset. I think Bishop Garden has done a great job here on the defensive end on the Melik as in um after the first half both of the

Meliks went in the game at 10 and N. And here going into the last 5 minutes of the fourth quarter they are at 13 and 12. So I think great defense um by Bishop Gern on the Melik uh the second half of the game. I think really understanding that they also like to go to the basket and knowing that the Cardinals have the physicality that they do. I think just putting a wall up and getting I mean look it right here. I mean great defense by even one of their smaller guards Madison Long keeping her hands high and making the shot tough for Melik. >> Nice job. That's that's Melik inside. >> Tough force to stop. I mean, Girtton, as you were just saying, they did everything right there, and she's still just kind of

imposed her will. >> And there's somebody who's been imposing her will all night. That's number 11, Drapo. >> Who other >> Lexi with the floater draws another foul. She'll go back to the line. >> She's been great at getting to the line this game. >> She This is her fourth time to the line. and she will be shooting her seventh and eighth foul shots just right on that one. It's actually your first miss of the day. Great free throw shooter. >> First miss from the line. >> You jinxed her, Carson. >> Just going to say >> Girtton now back the other way. >> Maybe I should talk inside. There you go. Melik with the rebound out to Lexi. >> Roger driving. >> Good block by Baker up ahead. McGin >> and McGowan's going to convert.

[snorts] Melik picks up the dribble and we're going to have a quick timeout here. Full timeout. Coach Kaen Rogers going to talk about it with the girls. >> We're about halfway through this fourth quarter and we got four minutes left. Full time out. >> It's looking like it's going to be a Cardinals game here tonight. >> The Hawks just they really haven't had an answer for Drapo. She they haven't really had much of an answer for for um for Olivia Baker number three. Just that that real big height advantage inside which which they don't typically find themselves on the short end of that matchup, but tonight they certainly have. And I mean here we have McGin coming in at 16 points so far. That's a great showing from her. Baker in herself. She has 12.

And then we have Drapo with 18. So three very very strong players for the Cardinals here tonight as all three of them been having a good game and all at the same time has been hard on exit defense. But I mean, they're up 46 with four minutes left in the fourth quarter. And I mean, like I said, they're averaging 4652 a game. So, they're right about where they have been for some of their wins these last couple of games. >> Yeah, it really just has been not having an answer on the defensive end for some of those some of those Cardinal high scorers. >> I mean, I think you know the saying, defense wins championships. >> Cardinals come out in a press. Deep ball stolen by Long. Stolen back again by Rogers. Driving to the

basket. >> Camarada to the basket. >> That attempt is short. >> Jump ball. >> Way to get after her rebound. >> Ball. Absolutely. >> Thought she got hit on the arm on that drive. Melik to Rogers. Rogers uses the screen left on the three. Dean with the rebound. Nope. Sorry. That's Melik with the rebound to her sister inside. She gets it to go. [cheering and applause] >> Which one are you talking about, man? >> That was Jess. They have such good chemistry between those two. >> I mean, it makes sense if you're living with the one another. >> Rio uses the screen from Baker, pulls up, and it converts. >> Nice shot. >> She is at nine herself. >> How's your chemistry on the court with Cross? >> Oh god. >> Here we go. for

the Hawks inside. >> Tipped away. >> Melik. >> It's a foul. >> That one's on the floor. >> That'll be Baker. Her second. >> Melik will inbound. >> Set up behind. It'll be a three-point shot. I know that play very well. >> Inside. Melik with the rebound. Puts it back. Almost like a almost like they drew it up that way. >> I think they did. >> The drive by Baker >> with Pace. >> Nice touch at the rim. >> 14. >> And Girtton pressing with a 17-point lead. No letting up for these Cardinals in the drive by. >> Yep. >> Melik. >> Going to be another jump ball. I think great aggressiveness by both teams. There have been many jump balls these games. >> Quite a few. >> Looks like Exit will be in a

press unless they thought they were on offense. Drive by Long. >> Can't get it to go. >> Rebound by Melik. >> Pushing it back the other way with Pace. Out ahead to Denine. Denmine through the lane. Tapped away. Lexi grabs it inside. Nope. McGawan with the rebound. She's going to push it back the other way. >> Coming down with two minutes. McGawen with the good fake and the layup, bringing her to 18. Foul. >> Got to love the intensity there from Nicole. >> Drapo. A little upset with that one. That'll be our third. >> Fourth. Correct me. >> We'll convert on the first. That'll be 16 for her. Same as her sister. >> There you go. Now she's one ahead. >> But you'll talk about that with her tonight. >> Tough reach in foul. >>

So equal with how they play. I think they both have such a good game down low. Baker lowers the shoulder. >> Foul. Melik >> and Olivia Baker will go to the line shooting two. We are just about with a minute and a half left. 69 for Girtton. 56 for the Hawks. Excuse me, 54. >> Shows 52. I I thought it was 54. They just adjusted that. So now we have 70 to 52. >> We got Baker at the line. >> Converts again. >> 16. What a great game from these three from >> Bishop Gern. >> It really has been the difference. >> Drao doesn't like the call, but it's going to stay Blue Hawk ball with with the out- of- bounds play now. >> Got to love the intensity. Still up 18. Up 19 here.

>> Yeah, up 19. A minute left. Frustrated with the call. Hey, I'd love to see the love for the game. >> Exactly. sticking the same thing. Melik for three. That's going to be short. Rebound Rio. She's doubled. Loses the ball to Rogers. Rogers banks it in. Using my ref instincts. I think that went off exit too from our angle up here. Baker back to Rio. Rio bringing it down. Setting it down with 50 seconds to go in the corner. McGawan. Bang. >> And she hits the three. >> And that will get McGawan to 21. >> Is she the high scorer tonight? >> Indeed. >> That'll be a blocking foul. And that is her fifth. >> That'll be Drapo's fifth foul. And she has fouled out of the game, but nonetheless with 18 points. >> A

really, really strong showing for her. second highest scorer on the Cardinals. Such a great game from Dripo. I mean, just her size and just her agility and the way she got in to the paint that quick, [snorts] even with her being uh bigger and stronger than everyone else. Great great game, great intensity, >> great quickness, great intensity, and she was the difference in the first half. We didn't call her name quite as much in the second half, but we they didn't need her, quite frankly. >> They didn't need her. McGawan stepped up in the second half. Baker stepped up in the second half, up by 20. I'm pretty sure the intensity died down a little from the coach. >> Denine short on the second. Rio out top. Rio to McGawan. McGawan to Long Baker. I

think I know everyone's names now. >> That's going to be on Jess. >> And we're in the bonus. So, Baker will be shooting two here with 21 and a half seconds to go. >> She's been good from the line herself, too. She has converted on five of her seven free throws so far. >> You got to love that from your center. >> God. And that is 18 for Baker. We have 18. We have 18 for Drapo when she fouled out. 18 for Baker and 21 for McGowan. The showing from these three girls today I just think is unbelievable. I think like I don't know. I haven't watched too much exit high school women's basketball, but this was a great showing and I think one of the three best I've ever seen so far this season.

>> Yeah, I mean it really has been an up and down affair. Highscoring game. Um >> good offensive showings from both sides really. Uh both Melik sisters in double digits. Um do we have a third? Lexi Rogers in double >> Roger with 15. >> Yep. >> 16. But it's not going to be enough tonight for the Hawks and Girtton >> even with themselves. 16 from Lexi, 16 from Jessica Melik, and 17 from her sister Nicole Melik >> and G will dribble out the clock here. >> What a great game. I mean I just want to mention again exit had above average from their average this season as their average this season is around 52 points per game. They had 57. So a great game on offense as we see from both the Melik sisters and

including uh Lexi Rogers. A great game from her and all around her a bunch of her teammates uh with Atly. She had five herself. Great game from her. But all in all, I just think the three on the Cardinals, a great showing. McGawen, like I said, 21 points. We had Baker with 18 and before she fouled out, Drapo with 18 herself alongside people like Rio who put up nine, almost double digits. Then we had Phil, [snorts] Gabriella Philick on Bishop Gurn also put up eight herself. So, I think all around I think what a great game of scoring for Bishop Gurn as a lot of their players had I think one of a great games. Um, one of the best of their seasons. I mean, it just all happened at the same time. You know,

when I'm I'm having a good game over here, then my buddy Dan's having a better game over here. And I mean, it all accumulates and here we go. 76 points from the Bishop Gurn in this game. >> Yeah, big offensive outpouring for them. That's going to wrap it up our game coverage for tonight with the Blue Hawks going down to the Cardinals losing 7657 here from the Big Gym. For Bluehawk Media, I'm Dan Provos. This is Carson Curtis. We're looking at potential 3-day weekend here, Carson. What do you think? That's what I'm hoping. What's your snow prediction for Sunday into Monday? >> I'm going to think snow. I mean, >> give me a number. >> 99.47. Give me give me a number of inches that that will be that will fall. >> Oh, I'm going

to say 10 inches. >> 10 inches. [clears throat] You heard it here. That's the prediction here from from the big gym at Exiter. We'll see if there's school on Monday. >> Do you know what I'm going to do uh during those 10 inches on Monday? I'm going to sleep. >> Yeah, there you go. Catch up on your sleep. All right. >> Probably till the one. >> Have a great weekend, everybody. >> Thank you. >> Good night.
