Mhm. >> All right, sorry for the delay everyone. We're going to start the meeting at 5:33 p.m. We were just waiting to get a quorum with three people. Um the first thing on the agenda is public comments and I'm not seeing anybody in the room, so we're going to move to the uh the discussions for the Board of Education Survey Data Dig and uh Jason's going to go ahead and start that off. Thank you very much. So you should have uh two paper copies two two paper things. So yes, you know what this is. One is a Board of Ed Data Dig Protocol so I can check here that you should have. It was also in BoardDocs. The second piece that is not in BoardDocs because uh we just closed the survey is the actual

data starting from the survey. Just a reminder that the survey was developed by a subcommittee of the Planning Committee and uh this is our executive uh attempt at doing a survey looking at some data. Uh the data I think the survey closed yesterday with folks uh having the opportunity to give some feedback, reflect, and then Lynn pulls it out in the Google and puts this chart together for us. Um the data protocol that you see here is something very similar to what Chris Malloy and I use when we engage with like the district data team or administrators looking at data or teacher teams looking at data. So, this is very similar to what folks across the district utilize as a platform to analyze data pretty quickly, identify some trends, identify some gaps areas that we

could do things differently better, and then share their thoughts. This is very similar to many people across the district. And so, when Tammy and I were preparing for today, we thought that we could use this protocol as a way to frame our review of the data and then our conversation, and also to think about what the June retreat agenda might look like, and if there's any professional development opportunities coming from the data that I would think about for the June retreat. Any questions about that yet? And so, typically what Chris Malloy and I do is have people work in partnerships. That was great to just think about it as a partnership first, and then share with a large group. So, I guess things we can either do this independently and write down some notes, or

if you're more apt to work as a partner, that's fine as well. But, give us some time to look at the data, understand the data, and then either as an individual or a partnership, write down your thoughts and using these kind of guiding questions on the side as a guide for for what you're writing down next. Does that make sense? Yes. Yes. Uh I added up the minutes. If you look at all the minutes on the side, it adds up to I think about 15 minutes. Is that right? 4 8 2 12 13 15 minutes, so we usually start with about 10 minutes on the clock. Just to again to allow people to really dig into the data, look at the questions, write down some notes. We'll do a check-in in 10 minutes. People need

more time, we give it. And then at the end, we're committing to uh walking through these pieces and sharing our our thoughts. That make sense? Yep. All right. You want me to set a timer for 10 minutes? Please. Please. >> Hey Siri, set a timer for 10 minutes. Thank you. And so then 10 minutes counting down. Yeah, individually or partnerly, take a look at the data, write down some thoughts. Thank you. Thank you. All right. Thank you. He was not online when we started. I think I had the wrong link. Sorry about that. We're just making sure that uh you're in a spot to uh engage in the activity that we're engaging in, Craig. I'm trying. I'm I'm assuming I'm looking at the scan that was sent. So, yes, Angel should have should have received

an email from Angel, and that is the data. Okay. And then I shared the protocol via Google Docs, but it's also in Board Docs. Okay. The same protocol. So, we're just taking 10 minutes to take a look at the data and use those guiding questions as uh a guide for writing down your notes. Okay. So, I'll do the best again. All right, thank you. No, that the top one's down and the other don't other person who put something down was me. You and I were thinking of the same thing, I think. Where where are we Where What's going on? >> I'm on the third page. I'm not sure that the middle column had a word in it. At the very top. Oh, no, that was not me. >> [laughter] >> That was definitely Dan. >>

[laughter] >> I just skipped it. I just didn't add any commentary to it. >> So both of you did it. >> [laughter] >> Thank you for your part. We thank you, too. What about the thing about the grill out? Oh, that's definitely Dan. When I read that, I was like, Dan's the only person who would use expressions like that. I'm the only one that knows that Dan. I think it's now legal. Oh, no. Well, at least he didn't call it the yard dirt stand. You know, those can be risky. >> [laughter] >> You know the original ones? They wouldn't stick well enough, so my dad sharpened them on a grinder. Well, I mean, I miss the original ones, honestly. The flimsy Yeah, the flimsy little plastic >> Oh. >> Your time's up. Anyone need more

time? Yeah. Yes. What time do you need more time? I haven't figured out who's who here yet. Who is it? Is that what you need time for? >> You're on the top of the next one. Well, I don't know if I should do this actually because people that put their names down I would feel guilty. I'm not going to say it because some people did, but I don't know who did. David, you need more time to look at the data? Yeah. How much time, ish? Well, I'm on the last page, so I know what I answered. I just need to get these other About 2 minutes. Okay. All right. Could you put some more I'm row 16 if that helps you. Okay. I put my name on the survey, so Yep. Hey Siri, can you

set a timer for 1 minute and 30 seconds? 1 minute and 30 seconds. Thanks, Siri. >> Starting now. Of course. You really talk to yourself, aren't you? I always I'm always pleasant to Siri. I thank her for doing my tasks for me. >> [laughter] >> Yeah, you're you're wrapped around their non-existent digital finger. You know, there's been studies done and the people that run stuff on AI say that you get better answers and AI is more helpful when you do add pleasantries to your conversation. Now, I say please and thank you just cuz that's how my parents raised me, but >> Are you ready to go? I believe I am. All right. Well, uh typically we uh just ask for things that stood out to you, but another route we could take is just go

uh row by row. So, I'm wondering if anyone had some things to share in the section about what did we notice? What stands out? Celebrations or gaps? Anyone willing to share? Yes, please. Uh I thought that the biggest recurring themes that I saw in the data were about uh having goals in literacy and math improvement. I'm not as surprised. This is something we've talked about for the last year. Um and there was also another really big uh priority, I think, pretty much across the board, talking about making sure that we clean up and verify curriculum and instruction more broadly to make sure that it's relevant, that it's uh that it's thorough, and that it's free of things like indoctrination. Um I also saw that there were good responses about onboarding from more recent members. It

seems like the farther back we went, there was less positive responses. I'm looking at you. Um and uh what is the other one? Um it seems like the sentiment is that meetings are increasingly efficient, um and always people want uh want us to remember that we should respect each other's time and each other's effort. Thank you. Anyone else from that section, what did we notice that you uh want to share? Guys? No? No. Great. All right. Uh Craig, what about you? All right. Um I don't see his hand raised, so I'll say I agree with Sam. It seems like most of the board is saying that they really want to focus on curriculum over the next year. Whether that's getting the curriculum guides together, looking over the curriculum to make sure it's valuable and being

utilized appropriately in the district. More like we don't want Well, I guess I'll speak for me. Like me, I don't If we we have a curriculum or tool we're using or paying for, but it's not being used efficiently, like it's not worth the expense, then we need to have discussions on if we're not utilizing this, should we be still paying for the service? And I don't know how many of those. I'm not saying I know of some in the district, but I think those are things that need to be looked into. I also wrote I also saw those patterns. I think some other things that I wrote down is that I think that it's pretty clear that there's a desire to continue to get know principals and to be in classrooms, being buildings. >> Yes.

I also wrote down that I think it's clear that the elevation of the voice of parents and community and partnerships with parents and community is important. And then the other thing I wrote down is that I think there is a pattern that folks see themselves as contributing and appreciation for others' contributions on the board. What do you see, Sarah? I would agree and I also think that there was a theme in here of just talking a little bit about board governance. There's some people that are interested in learning more about being a board member and it might be new people that that have filled it out. I don't know. I was thinking about the establishment of a new team. Like you. >> [laughter] >> But just understanding some of those policies, understanding just perhaps Robert's

Rules or how to function on the on the team or whatnot. And so that that's another great component to is just the personal growth of the board, too. Yeah. Thank you. All right. Carl, anything? I'm listening. All right. Uh what about the next section? What does it mean? What might explain what it needs? What do you want to learn more about? Any reflections there? Yeah. Uh outside of some interest in maybe having tutorials on how to use uh computers more effectively, it seems like uh the needs are fairly low outside of, you know, people saying like, "Hey, let's make sure we respect everyone's time." Um the uh I don't know. Overall, it just seems like it's a board of people who have different particular passions that don't particularly I don't know, conflict with anyone else's.

That's very different from previous board surveys I've seen. Thank you. Anyone else? I guess what I'm taking away from it is that there's a desire to get into the buildings more and to grow rapport with administration. Yep. Yep. Anyone else? Well, and Sam pointed out which guy I am in answering these. Um I would appreciate um a tutorial in using the computer. Yep. Um I'm always afraid of it cuz I'm afraid of losing something. And Sam comes over and does a few things like this and everything disappears, which I guess is okay, but I'm afraid I'll never get it back. So, so, you know, and I sat with Tyler, but uh I'm a real slow learner when it comes to these things, so You do have a problem letting go of your tabs. >> [laughter]

>> Damn. Mr. Goldman I would like to show you my task. All right. Yeah. >> They're organized. There you go. See. I think that kind of leads perfectly into kind of the next section about actions, professional development, any differences that always stood out for you. I think something that we should do uh right away and this would this is going to lead into the overall next discussion anyways, but uh professional development on state statutes and parliamentary procedure. That seems to still be something that people want. I know we did a little bit of that last year, but I think that re-upping it for the new board member and having maybe a more thorough discussion would still be good. I agree. Yeah, and one of the comments in here mentioned about potentially um partnering with the

city to get somebody to come in to teach both the city and the board appropriate parliamentary procedures. Like somebody had mentioned that in here. Ooh. That sounds fun to me. Well, it'd be fun to meet with the city, too, and have a look at you know, common needs that we could double up on. So, I think that's a good idea. >> Yeah, I'm not opposed to working with the city. I like Robert just fine. Cuz they they've got nothing to do in the evenings. Just like we don't, I'm sure. >> [laughter] >> Any other pieces that stood out regarding possible professional development or needs? No, I don't think so. I think it was really just focused on parliamentary procedures, Robert's Rules of Order. Yeah. I did write down technology, parliamentary procedures, and state statutes as

well. Think that I saw one about just learning more about data. I would also do that, and I don't know it was I think it was a one one piece rate. Any interest in that? I'm open to it. I mean, I'm always open to learning more about data. What is it What is it called in data when you pick out the piece of data that appeals to you the most? I'm just kidding. No, I think [clears throat] that would be cool. Yeah, sincerely. All right. Any other uh pieces from the data conversation? All right. Thank you uh for your time. I think Cammy and I had talked about doing this twice a year. Is that right? Correct. Yeah. All right. Thank you very much. Okay, so now we're going to move to the Board of

Education retreat that's going to be coming up in June. So, it is going to really kind of focus on results of our surveys. Uh that's what the agenda's going to be built around so we can potentially try to plan upcoming professional development based on the survey results that we've gotten. Um we don't have a location or anything yet. Uh if somebody would like to work with me on that, like we did last year, I can do it on my own. It doesn't matter to me. I'm open to whatever. I'll work with you. Thanks, Dan. So, we're planning a board retreat for June. Now, are we going to have an outside person do it? I know I thought uh when Linda had Linda and I had met with um Tina Crave. I don't remember Linda remembers

seems to remember that she would say yes to doing it. Well, we can definitely look into that. Um Craig and I briefly discussed uh cuz he knew the board retreat was coming up and it was initially May, but then we pushed into June to give everybody time to fill out the surveys. Uh and he had said that Drew might be a possible option, too. Nobody reached out to Drew yet or anything. We We're still in the planning stage of all of that, but we can go whichever direction. If you and I are planning it, Dan, we just got to get all our ducks in a row and get it on the calendar. I know Jason and I discussed in the meeting about getting 3 days out. I don't know if you have those three dates.

I did ask Lynn uh just to look at all the events that are currently on the calendar for June and look at for a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday dates. And she gave gave us three possibles. The first one is Tuesday, June 9th. The second is Wednesday, June 17th. And the third is Thursday, June 25th. And those are just simply dates uh from Lynn looking at, you know, all the other events and committee meetings. And these are three days that she gives that she believes are clear for PM events. Okay. So, the board will get an email shortly to weigh in on what date works best for the board, and then Dan and I will move forward with planning it after we have the date. Now, uh Jason and I discussed in um the collective Lexus

user room for free, the library is a potential option. Uh there was one other option, an MATC will allow us to go there with no expense to the district. Uh Jason and I briefly discussed like maybe we could have dinner, but my intention with dinner would be like our board the board would purchase their own cheeseburger if we ended up going someplace. We wouldn't be uh billing the district for the meal, essentially. But again, that's totally up to the whole board as to in which direction they want to go with that, if they would like a meal with the board or treat or if they just like to meet to discuss the survey and align with our net our next couple professional developments if we're able. So, you and I are going to meet and

determine what's going to happen at the retreat, correct? Correct. Well, with Jason, I'm assuming he'd be helping us get the agenda together. So, we might not need to have an outside person. For the purposes of the this retreat, it might not be necessary. I think that for future board developments, that more would would become relevant. You would bring Drew in you know, he was fantastic. He's I'm sure he does much more than just what we've seen, but Drew did like board priorities and cohesion and things like that. You could have someone come in and do parliamentary procedure or talk about like cell phone usage or electronics in the classroom or something like that if that was something we wanted to do for board development. Although, that might more be something uh I don't know. So,

for this I don't know yeah, you guys should talk about it first and see if that's even something that you feel like you need an outsider for because I do think that we're at a point where we can probably govern our own retreat when we're just talking about what do we see here and what are our plans for these things. Just uh picturing Drew in the pool. You know, what chicken Yeah, so Is the pool in this scenario or is it cold water because like >> You've never played that with a guy on his shoulders? No. Oh, no no okay, no no I know what you're talking about. I thought you meant like an actual chicken fight. Like in the bottom of an emptied out pool. I was like this is so morbid. Where are

we? Uh I don't know, 1940s in the United States. >> States. We don't do that stuff here. We do that. >> the United Okay, go ahead. Yeah, um we did when we the one retreat that we did with uh Drew Halwick last year was focused on collective commitments. Not I don't believe that much of that has probably changed with this board, but I do believe that one of the one of the sessions that we wanted to get to that um that we didn't was uh roles um like the roles exercise by which it you know, it it's really defined by the board as far as what those roles and responsibilities are uh that the the board would feel comfortable with and it was just a a means of of communication so that we're all on

the same page when it comes to that and then make a commitment about those particular roles. For instance, um you know, one of the exercises that he did was uh you know the he would have a number of different scenarios and is that a is that an administrative role? Is that a board member role? Or is it both? You know, that sort of thing. And um considering that we have um uh co-interim superintendents and that leadership has certainly changed as a board. Um it is not an exercise that the majority of the board has gone through in quite some time. Uh and I I think it would be really beneficial to do something similar to that. Um and Drew Drew Halwick Halwick did a good job with with that. Okay. >> I'm sorry, Craig. I'm

just taking a note of that. Please go ahead, Jason. Go ahead. I think Sam is spot on regarding questions of that, whether we need an external person or not. And what I mean by that is if if there's interest and we'll plan the agenda accordingly, but if there's interest in professional development around technology, we have people here that could come in and do a tutorial, right? If we want to learn more about data and dig into some data and talk about protocols or understanding data sets, Chris will likely come and do a 30-minute or whatever, right? If we're talking about parliamentary procedures or roles and responsibilities or state statutes, it's likely someone that we're going to connect with from outside the district. So, I think really it's my topic will govern who does the PD.

So. Please go ahead, Carl. What do you want to know about state statutes? We want to know if the state statutes that govern the board. There are certain chapters. Yeah. They talk about >> I got my state statutes at home. I got I got them all at home. I I look at them constantly. Okay, well, handle it internally then. Well, I I'm not going to give a class on it. >> [laughter] >> Well, I mean, I have I have I have the books at home, all the books. I think the purpose of the statutes The purpose would be to talk about exactly what the authorities and responsibilities of the board are because there's a lot of discussion that happens on the board as well as off the board about what should the board what shouldn't

the board do things like that and going back to state statute is the best way to kind of cut through some of that noise. >> Yeah, but the problem is them statutes just continually change. That's the biggest problem. I think education statutes don't really change very frequently. I mean not saying never, but it's not >> Those have been pretty standard for a while. There are certain chapters that are very stable. There are certain chapters that um through case law will then change a state statute. I think the topic also will govern the person, right? Drew Hawlick has certain things that he is really good at. Um Brian Waterman is the reason so and there's the names are long, right? So the topic will also govern the best person to reach out to whether it's internal

or external, so. Definitely. Craig, go ahead. Yeah, if it's about state statute I I wouldn't say I wouldn't be putting it out there to to say that you want to learn about the state statutes, but rather um to have a more of a thorough understanding of what the state statutes are um in in relation [clears throat] to board members roles as a refresher and possibly even uh the superintendent's roles and the roles of a school district in general as a as far as state statute is concerned. So there's a lot there to unpack. But um certainly having a very thorough understanding of uh state statute and perhaps maybe there needs to be a more defined scope in that discussion because I that's probably a lot to cover for uh whoever we have come in whether

it's Brian Waterman or somebody else, but uh uh definitely I can understand um a desire for that discussion. Okay. It's from my notes. It sounds like I I don't have clarity yet who is going to do something with the dates. That you or that or Lynn, do we want help with? We're going to survey everybody to see Who is going to do that? Well I mean, I'm happy to send an email to the whole board, but I would CC Lynn so Lynn is a what you know, like so And then the second thing I wrote just for you know, come back to it, but Dan, Tammy, Mike, and Jason, maybe Sarah would be developing the agenda. Correct. All right, does anybody want to discuss anything further on the board retreat? Outside of there will be

an email going out very shortly letting people know what dates we're looking into and we are going to choose the date that has the best availability for all the board members. And you and I will find a venue or decide on a venue. And all that, yeah. Yep. All right, so then we'll move to the district data digging action planning update. Thank you. Just a reminder that for the last several years we've challenged our principals and their leadership teams over the summer to really do a comprehensive look at data. And so each summer those teams look at math [clears throat] data, literacy data, behavior data, attendance data, engagement data, the whole gamut of data sets. And from that data we have asked principals and their teams to write three uh goals, one math or literacy,

one student engagement, and then three professional practice goals, the adult goals. And so, uh based on some feedback uh last summer, some of our principals said, "Wouldn't it be nice to do that as a large group?" And so, we're going to try that this year. On June 8th, we're doing a district-wide day to dig and uh goal-setting uh event. And so, we'll have uh leadership teams from every every school representing every school. And those will be comprised of primarily staff, administrators, some parents, and some students. So, we're excited that you know, we'll have all parts of the learning community there. And the goal is for those groups to walk out of there at 3:30 with some really really less drafty than that, right? student and professional practice goals. And so, we're just excited about that.

We'll just continue to keep you in the loop. That's awesome. Yeah. Questions? All right. So, we'll move on to planning committee cadence moving forward. So, Jason and I discussed this. Um so, we just need to decide as a committee if we want to keep the monthly cadence for planning or if you're comf- if we're comfortable moving to bi-monthly uh cadence now that we're outside of a referendum cycle and so on and so forth. So, the floor's open for discussions, views, opinions, thoughts. I could go either way on it. I think that of all of the committees that we have, it's probably the most flexible one because planning tends to be more like long-range. I will say that if we want more professional development and board retreats this year, we would be better off keeping this

as a monthly meeting so we can keep on talking about that unless you're going to do like just little subcommittees where it's like Tammy meets with Dan one one of the odd months, Tammy meets with Sam one of the odd months, Tammy meets with Craig to like develop those retreats or something like that. You know what I mean? Um Jason and I did discuss uh the board retreats. Um so we we thought that if we did if the board if the committee chose to go to bi-monthly, we didn't think that it would be any problem to just add a committee to an agenda even if it is to discuss the just the next board retreat. Again, I'm not attached to monthly or bi-monthly. I'm cool going whichever way the committee wants to go. Well, we

used to have it bi-monthly and then we had a need to have it every month. We could do the bi-monthly and then say if we need to meet this next month, let's meet. Make it that flexible. Okay. So I guess um in the perfect world, how often would you guys want to do board retreats? Go ahead, Craig. Um part of the reason I think uh rationale behind a monthly uh planning meeting um was because of the upcoming referendum operational referendum at that time. And we're talking about going back almost 2 years, right? Um of uh regularly meeting for planning. I don't know that there's that level of work that still needs to be done at at the planning level, but that's just my opinion. Um I'm I'm comfortable with meeting every other month until something

changes. Okay, I'm not opposed to that at all. So what if we did go back to an every other month schedule, but because we want to get these board retreats in like really focusing on the off month of planning, we try to get a board retreat in even if it's mini, like a mini parliamentary procedures training that we would normally have in the cycle for the planning meeting or you know, like if we're really focused on trying to get board development, then our off months we can have our time already kind of chiseled out. Yeah, we can have a development even if it's a small one on off months. Yes. How do you feel about that, Craig and Dan? If we have less turnover than we've had recently the board retreat become a bit redundant.

You know, I mean same thing I said last, you know, last spring. Right. So, the board retreat this month I'm assuming the goal's going to be to go over the board survey, which is the first board survey this board has taken. Um not that a board has taken, but this board. And then maybe we could line up two professional developments that we want to get in for um it would be July or August. If we're It would be July. With July would be our next planning, so then it would be August would start our professional development and then September we'd have a planning meeting and then October we'd have a professional development, but to do that I think that we'd have to at least try to have two lined up at the board retreat so

we can try to find somebody to fulfill whatever that class is. Go ahead, Sam. I was going to say I hear what you're saying about it's like okay, parliamentary procedure and board norms. Like okay, we've talked about this before, but once you get past those assuming that you have less turnover, you can start getting into more interesting things. You could have a whole lot of board development that's just about like bullying in districts, what that looks like, what boards can do to most effectively curtail that issue, what are the most effective responses. You can go You can do a whole board retreat, like I said, that's about like technology in the classroom and the positive or negative effects of that, um and how to best handle those things, about changing nature of relationships. I know

Bill Hughes, we talked to him a few times. Uh he was big on coming in and talking about uh long-term trends, which would probably fit into data a little bit. You I think you'd like Bill Hughes. I don't know if you've met him before, but he's yeah, he's he was really he was great to talk to. So, there's a lot of different people that we can that we can hit up for these things. Um but yes, setting up ahead of time is important. I would go ahead. I'm sorry. I'm just going to real quick just say like like say um for example, I think Ed Services asked for more detail or different look at AIMSweb. So, that's an example that you know, we can dig into. We can say, "AIMSweb, let's just dig into that

one piece of data that's really interesting." As an example. Okay, Craig, go ahead. I think we're getting I think for the nature of board retreat, it's we're getting off a little bit of behind like what the intention of board retreat is because those awfully solemn a lot like Ed Services discussions. You know, um and if it's not Ed Services and we want full board engagement, then perhaps maybe um strategic discussion like a little vignette uh that that's that discusses those particular topics at the at the full board. I guess I'm not following what you're saying. What is an Ed Services discussion? Well, where you where you do um a deeper dive in any of those one particular topics of I don't know um a everything that Jason just mentioned about data or um you know,

how Sam was mentioning uh you know, the effects of >> [gasps] >> um you know, technology in the classroom. Those are those are all Ed Services style discussions. Those are the types of discussions we've traditionally had at Ed Services. Um it the board retreats should be surrounding like trying to trying to get the board on the same page or professional development for for board in particular areas um of governance and uh that sort of thing. Uh but uh that that's just my thought on that. Uh I did want to expand on my other comment about the need to uh to meet bi-monthly. I might want to consider you might want to consider walking that back a little bit because of um the situation where we have kind of put on pause for a short term

um superintendent um administrations evaluations and check-ins. Do we find it valuable to continue discussions with a with um with uh co-interim superintendent check-ins? And what does that look like? How is there an evaluative process that we're going to continue to employ in that respect? Um those are those are probably discussions we should continue to have as a planning committee um along those lines. I guess I was under the assumption that the planning committee had decided that we were not going to have an official um like process at least until the next school year because the co-interim superintendents already had their goals set for this year. And my understanding is that we were going to uh Now, I do think this would be an appropriate discussion to come August right before the September school year to

see what we're transitioning to, but that would be on the bi-monthly cadence. Is right? We'd have another opportunity to discuss that. Was that Was I misunderstanding that? I I thought that's what the the board agreed or was that a misunder- Is it a misunderstanding on my part? I feel like that's a pretty accurate representation of where we were. That that is what we have been told and believe to be true. Well, I mean, discussing it like in July maybe because we're in May, then we would be off June, we would talk about it in July. Um I think July would be a good time to start having that discussion, and then we could potentially have another additional discussion in August if necessary about that topic, too. And I guess, Craig, my question is to you,

are you Would Do you think it would be advantageous to have monthly check-ins with the co-superintendents once we once we get on a more formal process or Go ahead, Craig. >> I I feel that it's important to have a check-in with this with the with the with the uh super co-superintendents as a board cuz um I'm not sure that we've had that level of check-in as a board with the current leadership in place. Um perhaps maybe as a full board, we should have that discussion sooner than later. Craig, that seemed kind of cryptic to me. I don't If you could explain that further, I Um, so we haven't met as a board um, in closed session with the superintendent uh, the co-superintendents to have discussions as a full board. Ever. We haven't had to be

We There's uh, board members that pass feedback back and forth to um, to co- co-interim superintendents, but if the board isn't passing feedback collectively to co-interim superintendents on on matters that is that are important to the board, I think we're missing an opportunity there. Please go ahead, Jason. Two things. One is that um, one idea would be for Tammy and myself as uh, collaborating around planning. We are scheduled next for July 8th. And we could certainly talk about uh, co-superintendent check-in there. I mean, that seems like a natural time. A full board check-in after planning? Yeah. Okay. Yeah, yeah. If that's I just made that up, so that's one idea, right? And the second thing I'd say is I don't think Craig is wrong at all relating to the board retreat and the topics, right?

Like roles and responsibilities part. And I just want to be clear that like from my standpoint, I circled uh, five different topics that this group serviced, right? Technology. And when I think about technology, if that if we were to decide technology was a component of the board retreat, that would be a component, right? A small professional development tutorial about one thing. And when we talk about data, again, that's an opportunity. We would use I think there's value if we say we're going to learn more about data to dive into actual data. So, that's why the AIMSweb piece was an example, right? We're learning how to dissect data, understand academic or behavioral data by doing it. Right? It's still like I think there's value in if we're going to dive into that piece about understanding data

to do it with with real data. That's my point there. And I think like parliamentary procedures, roles, responsibilities, state statutes, by their very nature are different than technology and data. But, all in my opinion could be part of a part of of of the agenda for a board retreat. That makes sense. I completely agree with you, Jason. I I don't have a problem with doing like I think that it would be great for Chris to give professional development to the entire board on how to use wisely it to pull data from there, right? Like cuz it some people might find it very intuitive intuitive and other people might have a problem clunking around in the system. Um I think it's fair to say that anytime Chris talks, people learn things, right? There's value. Um as

far as um I do not know if we want to push this out to July. So, how would it look to have a closed session after this month's board meeting to do a superintendent closed session check-in? In May? In May. I got it. Fine. Whatever the board is. Yeah, I this is just a suggestion. So, If you guys are okay with it, I mean, I'm okay with anything. I think sending it out to the board and seeing if there's anyone who has a distinct reason that they would prefer to wait until July. Um otherwise, I don't have a problem with that. What do you think? Yeah. Let's do it in May. Yeah, I say let's go let's go ahead and put it on May. If we can put a closed session in May to do

a uh co-superintendent check-in after the monthly board meeting, and then that will bring us to July to discuss if um how we are going to execute a formal uh plan moving forward for the next year when you guys do not have like your primary role goals anymore that are Sounds good. Unless you guys have some suggestions or concerns about that, so. No, but I do think that Jason and I collaborate a lot, and so we can come up with um some ideas and and bring something to that session as well, any ideas that we would have. Okay, perfect. So, just stemming from this conversation, what I heard was that Tammy and Jason will uh will will be planning for the July agenda. That agenda will have kind of thinking about check-ins for the co-superintendents for

next year. Correct, yes. And they will also uh working to have a a closed session after the May full board meeting to uh give some feedback to the co-superintendents. Correct. Perfect. Thank you. As a brief throwback to the previous discussion about uh or the three topics, one of the thing that I would like to throw on there because I think you you mentioned it to me just like in passing recently, but I think this would be beneficial especially for new for a new board member. Discussions about I guess legal boundaries, where board members can say things, where they can't say things, and like what is the boundary of a quorum and stuff like that. That as a refreshing point, maybe we could have Brian come in for part of the board retreat. I think that

would be good for especially with Kristina being new on the board. I think she'd benefit from that. Okay, so likely the email that I send out will have the dates. Um as well as any Please provide any topics that you'd like to discuss. Dan and I will try to fit it in. Please go ahead, Dan. Yeah, I agree with Sam that there's little topics that'd be great at a board retreat. And I agree with Craig it'd fit better in Ed Services, but Ed Services is already you know, like this. So, if we have time and planning, why wouldn't we do that? So. Well, I just feel like what's presented at Ed Services is really data being delivered to the board on what's happening in the district, and I think what Jason was expressing was more

giving guidance to the board on how to use the tools that the district utilizes so we have a better understanding of the back end, how that data feeds in, not so much a presentation of the data or outcomes specific to the district, just learning how to navigate the systems the district needs and I think I just totally agree. I think Ed Services, if we think about bullying as an example, right? I think Ed Services the conversation is updates, what are our schools, right? What's the data? How's it going? What are we doing differently? I think the difference at the board retreat would be learning about uh bullying and how to prevent bullying, what are other boards or districts doing about bullying? Oh, I agree. And if that was a topic that we would go and

find someone that could speak to that. Sure. >> It would be more of a what could we do conversation versus a what are or will we do. Yeah, good stuff. But yeah, I I think the list right now is I'm trying to keep track of the list of possible topics is technology, data, parliamentary procedures, roles and responsibilities, state statutes, and then legal boundaries of board members is the latest. Is that right? Yeah. And we obviously are worried that all of this will not fit on Monday. That's right. This is more just like maybe there's some good topics for the near future. >> That's right. Okay, perfect. We also have to keep in mind that uh Christina can't make Wednesday nights. Okay, so um well, there is Tuesday or Thursday available, you know what I mean.

And um I think because it would be Christina's first board retreat, um I guess I'd like to make sure that she does attend the first board retreat, so we want to accommodate her the best of our ability. A Monday or Tuesday works. Lynn's got Tuesdays or Thursdays, I think, just because we were worried about conflicting with any already board meet meetings, and there's almost always a board meeting on a Monday. If we need more days to do more days, this is the first first attempt. I also believe that I heard that for now planning committee will be every other month, knowing that the off months we can fill with PD opportunities or if there's a topic that comes up like a referendum, we're open to adding them. Okay, perfect. Having a standing meeting date might

be a good idea. I kind of like what we talked about policy. All right, anybody else have any questions, concerns, commentary they'd like to add? Nope, okay, then we're going to go to the Board of Education in 60 seconds. Carl, are you our man this month? Board of Education. Yeah, you'd come in you'd come in the day after the main monthly board meeting and you give like a 60-second recap of the meeting of the day before and we post it on Facebook. I don't want to be on Facebook. >> [laughter] >> What do you want to look at an old guy? Anyone not done it yet? I have not, but I work during the day. I cannot. Sure. Well, I mean, they we've adjusted. We've adjusted before. You could You could still come in. You

can do it directly after the meeting. Oh, could I, Sam? >> You could. >> [laughter] >> It's only going to go until 10:00 p.m. If you don't want to do it. All right, I'll do the next Board of Education in 60 seconds. If you don't want to do it, I'll do it. I love being on the camera. I hate being on camera, so if you want to do it, Sam, by all means. Sam's going to be the next one doing it. I'm writing it down. Okay, write it down. I'm fine with [laughter] that. All right, thank you. You guys can Thanks, Sam. >> stream the camera to me. We're on a 24/7 live feed. All right, and then action items. So, I'll give you a second, Jason. Uh here's my list. Uh Uh Dan, Tammy,

Jason, Sarah will work collaboratively to establish uh at least a draft of the board retreat agenda. Okay. Tammy will send out a communique keep us uh Lynn, Sarah, Jason in the loop about retreat dates and possible topics. Perfect. Can I just verify those dates with you I have written down? Yes, hot topics. Yep. I have Tuesday, June 9th, Wednesday, June 17th, and Thursday, June 25th. Okay, perfect. Thank you. >> Okay, good. If we need more, we'll just give them to you. The next uh action item I have is just a reminder that planning committee will be every other month. Knowing that we could fill in on the off months with either PD retreats or hot topics. Uh Tammy and Jason will collaborate on ensuring that the July agenda has uh some conversation about the co-

uh superintendents uh check-ins and planning for next year. And perfect. Uh Jason will make sure that we have a closed session at the at the conclusion of the May full board meeting. And the focus there is feedback to the interim co-superintendents. Okay. The last one is that Sam will have a camera with him every day, all day. >> [laughter] >> But he's starting after the full board meeting. >> with Tyler about it. I was thinking the same thing. Sam's going to do the May board updates. Most definitely. >> [laughter] >> Those are the things that are on the agenda. All right, and then we have the past action items. We don't need to go over that if that's not necessary, Jason. Uh and future agenda planning. Uh I think we kind of already discussed future

agenda planning with the with the action items quite frankly. All right, so our next meeting date then is July 8th of 2026 at 5:30 p.m. unless something springs up in June. And we're going to adjourn the meeting at 6:35. I guarantee you Sam's going to come up
