carrying it. But I don't know if it's a forever kind of thing or >> I don't need a new bad habit. [laughter] >> You talk about a lot of cool things. Probably >> is Carl in town or is he uh he out currently? Do you know him? >> I was not able to get a hold of Carl. Me neither. I >> Yeah. I did hunt him down for the um to see if he but that took a great deal of effort. I felt like, you know, I detected three different people. I'm not having a cell phone. >> Yeah, I'm not going to bother him. You know, he's a big boy. Does that happen? >> Well, he already Yeah, he already knows. Will Craig be here or does he get off of work later than fire?
>> I don't know. Yeah, I don't know his uh just because of he was talking about how he was starting his new brown look up the simply potato hash brown recipe so I can find out the oven temperature cuz my cell phone signal is not working [laughter] >> simply potato >> simply potato cheesy hash browns >> that sounds I've been asked have to do all day today. >> Yeah. >> Okay, here it is. All recipes. >> Yep. I just see the temperature. I wanted I'm pretty sure it's 350. >> I don't know how much we're not get down to the >> They don't put recipes out like they used to with everything on the pop. preheated oven. So, it should be right up here. >> Yeah, I say it's 350. >> It doesn't have the
has the minutes, the cook time, and total time to yield. >> Yeah, they don't do it. It's like you have to read their whole little story about why they made that stuff down here. >> Yeah, >> we go on top directions. They have their own. >> No, it's not in it. 350. All right, you guys. It's 5:00. >> World crisis averted. >> All right. Calling this meeting to order at 5:' uh this is the board committee chairs meeting. Uh first thing on the agenda is the board collective privileges. Is everybody aware of these? >> Yeah. Yeah, it's the ones we did last year and approved. Correct. >> Any commentary on that? >> Collective commitments. Remember we had that meeting where >> Okay. I think they're there for reference. Okay. Uh the next thing on the
agenda is participation discussion and information. The only thing that I have about participation is I have a question. >> So, I've been watching or looking at like the section that's added for public comments like the verbiage we're supposed to read. And I think the committees right now are set up where I'm I'm not saying we're operating like this, but the verbiage is stating that they can only discuss agenda items that are on the committee. I thought that last year we had decided that they could come to the committee with any concern for that committee. It did not have to be an agenda item. >> It just has to be something that would be relevant to that committee. I think that would be the idea. Anything that would be agenda for that committee. So you don't
go to fiscal and talk about um a curriculum decision or you don't go to policy and talk about um you know something that really only makes sense for planning. I think that was the idea. >> Yeah. So, I'm wondering if we just need to adjust the verbiage that's in the beginning of um all of the committee meetings stating that public comments are only available for agenda items. >> Sure. Definitely. I mean, I don't have a problem for that. I think that would that would work fine by me. >> Joey, >> I'm good with that. David, >> that was me. >> Okay. Any further discussion? Okay, move to minutes. Okay. Um, we have a discussion about minutes here. Anybody want to start that off? >> Um, I think, uh, what we talked about last year is
is what should the minutes look like when we are reading them at monthly board meeting? Um, and I know that even at the very last one, I was kind of engaging in this, but really at the end of the day, you can say the minutes that are on the agenda accurately reflect the content of the board meeting and there's a video that anyone who wants to watch can watch it. You don't necessarily have to give a blowby-blow. I think sometimes we like doing that, but um, trying to keep it to like two minutes a piece is nice. And I say that as someone who probably did not do that at the last meeting. So, >> what do you think? >> I hold that. Well, I don't think it's wrong to have the highlights. >> Nothing
wrong with it. >> Most people aren't going to go and look at the minutes. >> They're not partic I mean, you know, how to navigate. It works great and because I'm not dissing what we're doing, but most people don't understand how to do all that. I've dealt with too many people in the past that find it difficult to navigate. So, I'm not post keeping it to two minutes, but I do think we should hit the highlights. of those. If we can do a board video in 60 seconds, we should be able to recap our committee meetings. >> David, what do you think? >> Yeah, I think that's true. from uh from a completion of the minutes or summary, the administrator connected to that group typically starts it, seeks uh opinions or feedback from the chair
before the group is live. Is that right? >> Is that a good system? >> I like that. Do you have but I what I would ask do you have any um input from the administrators that were doing so in a timely fashion they're they're good with our turnaround time >> I know sometimes we're working under a tight time frame >> especially later the meetings that meet that second week before the meeting >> and May will be tight so I think we're all cognizant of certain times of the year when it's just a little bit tighter >> May is like Christmas Jason everything happens within this like two to four week thing things >> yep Thank you. >> Action items. >> I think they work well. >> Yeah, I haven't had any issues with it. We've
done the past action items. I mean, it's good to have that if it's uh if it's something that we need to revisit. I think that's most relevant for if you like policy was where I was seeing most of that occurring. But I think it's got anything changes that we want to see reaction. Yeah. I think that's pretty good. Personally, I think it's pretty cut and dried. >> Yeah, I kind of when I first got on board, I I saw it and I thought I like that >> because we we did that some with Marinatha and really cut things down to the chase of what we needed to do. >> I'm good with it. >> Uh duration, >> comments on duration, >> duration of the meetings. I'm >> I think everybody is attempting to be as
efficient as possible in my personal opinion. So >> I I don't want to make anybody feel like they need to rush their meetings if board members feel like there needs to be more discussion. So >> yeah, the only stipulation being that like for me and Julian running the meetings in the morning and we already do this, but like whatever we're going to need direct input from teachers or administrators from setting those at the beginning of the agenda so that we can discuss those, get it out of the way so people can get back to their classes or their their daily work. >> In my experience is that's happened. >> Yeah, I I it's been a while. I think back when ed services and curriculum were a single thing, then the meetings would go quite long.
But I think that they are it's an appropriate division. I think we're I think we're aware that we can go too long, but we're not always doing it. So, we're we're effective, but not necessarily efficient sometimes. But I think we're aware of it. So, we like I think we're all thinking the same thing. And that is if something has been decided after a second read, let's not go over it all over again in the uh the major meeting. >> And uh I think that would help a lot too. So yeah, I I think we need to work on efficiency, but I think we're trying. >> And from Jason and Lyn's aspect on that part, what's your thanks thoughts? The [clears throat] meeting for pretty long sometimes we're aware of that. >> Committee meets >> committee
meeting. Yeah. >> I guess my perspective is that I think I agree with what's been said. I think that efficiency is is on the right trajectory. I also think that when the topics uh need more conversation, more conversations occur, right? So I think there's a balance of not of overefficiency at time right if that's the goal and not allowing those conversations, data, literature to be bushed out. I think um we'll talk Okay. Oral summary at the full full board meeting. I think we touched on this earlier. >> I think we actually covered that under. >> Yeah. Yeah. So, are we good with that? What we said before? >> Chairmanship. Um, I don't I mean I I think the last time we talked about this it was uh what do you expect? What are the norms?
I think generally speaking what we've kind of developed is whoever shows up let them talk about it. At the end of the day only the members of the committee that are going to decide on the recommendation but I mean as I've said before the point of committees is to remove some of the workload from the entire board not to restrict them from participating in that discussion. The earlier you discuss it the better it is when you get to the full board meeting where everything comes together. That's the bottleneck. So, and those are typically where we have our longest meetings. I think I think three out of the three out of six or four out of six of the last meetings were an hour or less committee-wise. So, I think that, you know, doing that is
good. >> Yeah, we're getting better at this. Yeah, that's that was my point. Yeah, we're aware we're getting better. Mhm. >> Well, some of that in in my opinion, your chairman also should pay attention to um the weight of the agenda, for lack of a better term. I know I've worked with Jenny because those course review guides can can be either short or long and so I don't like to load the agenda too much because um we may we may not get to it but also it may put a burden on people who are already trying scrambling to try to get things done to get it on there. So we put on there what's necessary and what keeps moving us forward. But [clears throat] I think it's incumbent upon good leadership to manage the agenda
with the administrator. >> Exactly. And the administrators are spending a lot of time preparing for the meetings. >> Then so we need to be be thinking of that >> so not overloading the agenda. >> Yeah. I rarely from my experience like Jason and Margaret are usually pretty prepared with the draft agenda. >> Yeah. I got one today. Um, and they're usually pretty forthright with me if I if if it's already loaded, like maybe we should move this discussion to the next month, so on and so forth. I Does anybody have a different experience? >> I think some of it has to do with the type of committee because curriculum can get it can get heavy in a hurry. >> Yes. >> And so I think it just has to do with type of committees. >>
Yeah. Time of year has something to do with too. >> Absolutely. >> Yeah. And like Margaret was saying today, there's a lot coming in this next meeting. [clears throat] So okay. [clears throat] Um action items. >> Okay. I just have updating the verbiage um in the public comment area of our committee meetings to reflect that the discussion of any topic related to that committee can be discussed during public comment, not just what is on the agenda. Correct. >> Yep. >> Okay. >> And that's it. >> That's it. >> We had two minute for the minutes. >> Yes. We already have that. >> That was already kind of on guidance, but depends on what you're doing. >> Well, uh, we discussed a two-minute recap for um the minute reports at the meeting of the hall. >>
So, we're okay with that yet? >> Yeah. I don't think that there's any need to adjust it. Anything else? >> No, I don't think so. >> Okay. >> Future agenda items >> for this committee. It would just be the next chair meeting. >> I think that they are every six months is the cadence like twice a year. I think that they're Lynn, right? There's tentatively one like around September, October. We did it the first uh first or second Monday in September depending on when um Labor Day landed and then again in in May. So So September to kind of see how things are going and then May with our new new chairs. >> Sure. >> So I don't know if you if you want to create this September one because actually I'll be hopefully this
week uh doing a um schedule for our next uh year of board meetings. So we could >> I'd say yeah add it. So it's already there for you Lyn when you build it out. >> Yeah. >> I'm going to put it in and have to add it. >> Yep. >> I'll add the se I'll add that to our action items to add the September um meeting date. Okay. >> Okay. Thank you. >> And then cover the next meeting date to be determined and we just talked about that. So we are done with our agenda. shortest in the history of the world. >> We were efficient. I like the way the committee run and as efficient as they can be without just hurting the rubber stamps. I think that's very appropriate. >> Yeah. So, okay. Meeting
is ended at 52. >> Woohoo. I'll get home before the freaking cheesy potatoes.
