That's definitely So, we'll go ahead and start the March 11th planning committee meeting. Um, I don't see anybody here for public comments. So, Oh jeez. Sorry. >> Um, >> that's really rude. >> I will go ahead. We'll go ahead. I know it was I'm sorry. Um, so we'll go ahead and go into discussion 3A for the interimm co- superintendent goals. >> Thank you. >> Yes, thank you very much. Uh, just a reminder from last month that we connected, we I think we made a few decisions and that'll have implications for today. The first decision was that it was unanimous I believe that we would not use the dates process for this year. So that's something that is important to note. Second is that we would come with some draft draft draft goals and that's currently

content and really governing uh now to the end of June. And then the third thing we talked about was scheduling tonight scheduling getting some feedback about those goals but also scheduling some check-ins between now and June uh to have some conversation about the goals. And so with that um we have that the the document and added content. I do have paper copies if anyone like it. Anyone like it? Yeah, I'd like >> I'll grab one for you again. Um, and just a reminder that these particular goals are on top of the goals that we have as directors as well. >> Okay. Like what was set up previously? >> Yes. >> Still very much working through those pieces. >> Thank you. So the top there to Sarah's point, the first one there is that program goal

that I had set at the beginning of year and was working towards and will continue to do so. And so hopefully you've seen this before. And then the second page really uh outlines uh two intro co- superintendent goals. And the first uh really talks about that district of the future advisory committee uh bringing uh folks together really from every building including staff, administration, parents and community to really help us through think through and plan for really four things that I think we're thinking about. One is to help us acknowledge and celebrate uh the schools that um are have been identified for closure. The second is really think about plan for how to do some really great transitioning of those students and families and integrating them into the culture of the buildings that they will they

will land in. I would say establishing a new culture because we don't want to take away from the cultures of Leap and Lincoln. And when students do that transition into new buildings when school closures happen, it's about creating a new culture that embodies all of the students that come on in. >> Yep. The third thing we talked about is really helping have this team help us think about what environmental or agricultural and STEM programming looks like across the district. I think we've heard some uh really powerful statements about what that could look like. And then the fourth is really for this team to think about help us think about beyond uh beyond those two ident what is the future of our district look like whether it's buildings whether it's programming really get some feedback from

that group and so this really calls out that we we would have this committee up and running really we talked about by April and have several meetings two four or six meetings by the end of June and that work would certainly continue beyond June but again these goals are written you know thinking about now to June the second goal there is really thinking about we've talked about some data u our student driven and data informed culture this really aligns with that work and so the idea and the second goal there is that we bring together uh leaders leaders and leadership teams from every building and really walk those leadership teams. We really want to continue to think about how we could uh bring teams together to collaborate, think about student achievement and growth and the

professional practices that go along with that. And so the idea here, the second goal is to bring those leaders from each building and leadership together to do a couple things on on especially I think we've identified June 8th as the day and the the the time spent would be data digging right looking at longitudinal data from each school or on a lot of things uh things like attendance data behavior data data, uh, our school perceptions, our engagement data, academic data. And so we want to look at the full gamut of of data sets connected to each building. Have those teams really analyze and understand that data. From that, we really would be asking teams to identify some priorities. What are the priorities stemming from the review and understanding of data? And then that work would

really lead to the identification of three student goals and three professional practic practice goals. And we envision having three school uh student goals, one in math, one in literacy, one in engagement and then what are the professional practices? How do we help our adults grow in those same areas? So professional practice goals in math literacy and engagement that connect to those student goals. And so uh this is the work that we're proposing being the goals that really drive us now to June. >> So to recap, day-to-day identifying greatest area of need, crafting actionable plans, goals on those three different areas that then can be measurable and can be um provided to the board with updates. questions, pass concerns, >> sounds good. >> I just have a question. I'm assuming the goal one that was attached

like the outline of that was attached on the Monday poll session, right? That was >> Yes. Yes. Okay. Okay. >> That's really drafty, but yes. Okay. >> G gives you an insight of kind of what the work would look like. >> Okay. >> All right. Um so if there's no questions, then we'll go to B the referendum updates. >> I'm sorry. One question. Do we want to schedule a check-in for this for these goals specifically or do we want to just use planning committee as as a platform for updates? >> Sorry, guys. >> With the nature of the goals, I mean, I wouldn't mind just using planning. If we need to do a close session and it does get a little bit more close sessiony, I mean, sure, we can do that, but um I

think including it at planning is probably for now. to look at the agenda and just make sure it's >> okay. Perfect. >> All right. Thank you very much. >> Yeah. Melissa, can we turn it over to you to start? >> Sure. >> Yes. You want me to just pass one around? They can be given away until they run out this evening. Well, can they have we have buttons? that our reach students have made. These are our prototypes today. There'll be 300 more for coming. So, if you would like one, grab one. We will get you more. We run out is getting low. >> Oh, it already has. >> Thank you. So, our students in reach, which is our 18 to 21 year old program for transition students, um jobs, skills, other things like that. Um

they make the buttons. Thank you. >> Should we save the the video update for last because I know we talked a little bit about that this afternoon. Okay. >> Sure. So, um our March key messages, we have been sharing those. They are on our website just kind of as a culmination of where we are at this point in our referendum process and the need for the communication and the reason why we are seeking the referendum. The mailer one went out and I know it hit a lot of households. Hopefully, you all received it. Yes. >> Yes. Yes. Okay. Good. Have it here. Okay. >> I didn't get it. >> Are you serious? >> I know. >> Okay. >> I was waiting. >> Okay. All right. Okay. Okay. I haven't heard of too many people who

haven't received it, which is good. And it certainly brought a lot of people to our um presentation at the library on Sunday. They were all walking in with it, >> which was a good thing. Yeah. So, so that is out. Um, mailer two is a postcard and I will send around drafts. And if you want to look through it right now, that's fine. Otherwise, if you guys want to take it and make some edits and then let me know if we have changes tomorrow. >> What's our target date for mailboxes for that? March. >> Last week of March, but ideally we'd get it to the printer by Friday. >> So, it's front and back. figure it was easier to present it to you though just a two sheets of paper and this will be the

exact same size has the mailer >> really much of what we've seen before much of the content I think the big message here is this big red stamp here right is reminding folks to to vote >> we have gotten some um insights from our buildings uh through inquiries from parents about where or how do I vote? And so this literature at the top here is really a a reaction and stemming from that feedback. And so we've had some conversations as early as this afternoon or as recent as this afternoon about how do we continue to educate folks about where, when, and how to vote. And so that's just something we're thinking about because again, we've had some feedback saying people are asking >> Spanish. >> Um, I can have this translated to Spanish. It won't

mail out that way >> because we can't identify the households. >> Sure. >> But yes, everything that we've been producing, we've been translating to Spanish. >> Okay. Thank you. It's a great question. Thanks. >> Are you producing the postcards or are you sending it out to somebody? >> I sent that out to Prank because we have to run about 14,000 copies. >> Okay. I was just wondering if maybe we could get like half sizes, double-sided, and we could maybe take it to the um grocery store that's on Third Street there. Sure. Even if they're not postcards, like actual postcards, but like a half page that we can put there. That's going to go into the next >> what we talked actually, it's a great idea. What we talked about today, and Melissa is going to

help us with this, is we're going to make a a different version of this and we'll have we won't need this local postal customer piece here. >> Okay. >> So, we're going to fill that in with more stamps. So, vote, please, vote, vote, vote, vote, vote. And this will be literature that we can hand out. Okay. >> Another layer that's very similar, but we can start distributing those >> and we can print those in house. You have professionally done because it's not an extra grade, but we can print we can brand anything in house. >> Okay, perfect. Thank you. So, Linda, when you're talking about are there materials that you can, you know, walk doortodoor, this would be a prime example of that. >> Yes. Oh, so I was wondering maybe adding one line that

um span Spanish Spanish translation on our website and then you you know then you would >> sure >> that way it would site. >> Is that disclaimer going to be in Spanish though? >> Good question. >> Can the disclaimer be in Okay. >> defeats the purpose. I mean if it's in English then >> yes Julie sorry >> so Melissa when do you when are you thinking this is hitting homes? >> Our plan will be the end of March very early April. >> So the week is like the 30th. >> Yes. >> Okay. So the last day to request an absentee ballot is April 3rd. So, that's a real tight window. >> Um, that's also the last day to early in person vote. >> Okay. >> So, I'm wondering if you might want to add instead

of make a plan to vote and it's it's great to have the absentee ballot there if on there if they got a ballot. >> Okay. So, it could be it could be outdated by that point in time. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Okay. >> I'll I'll I'll try to work on that for you. I you'll work that correctly. Well, I got to think through how how to word that. So, >> we also do have a draft really draft message to our stakeholders that we looked at this afternoon that will go out uh next week, hopefully Monday, and it's very short on we have this thing called an operational referendum and big on informing folks about voting. So, here's three ways you can vote. Here's a link to learn more information. Here's the times when you vote.

So, it's really drafty right now, but we're thinking that that would go out early next week as well, which is good. So, it would go hand in hand. >> And we can there's something else you want to add there just to like keep the length of that bullet point kind of the way it is. We can add anything that makes sense that helps people understand when and how It looks good. >> So, we we had our Facebook live week ago Monday, I believe. Went great. Our stars did a fabulous job. We had fun. >> Yeah. >> And that is on our website for anyone to view. And we have our next one on the 26th. >> 26th of the 26th. >> And then we have yard science. So, I ordered 75 and I've um put

them at all the schools and a referendum volunteer team has been helping to distribute them. But I wanted to make sure that you all had the opportunity to take a sign. There's 14 here. There's three more in my car and then that's all I have left. So, you you want all of them, you may take all of them. I'm trying to have them in high visibility areas. And then um the uh testimonial video has gotten a lot of nice reach and a lot of nice response. And we've been uh toying with the idea of those short um referendum please vote videos that feature uh individuals from the community from the school district. We talked a little bit about them today. Um still interested in moving forward. We just want to make sure that if people

are being featured that um we don't want um negative commentary to to follow their their generosity and helping us. So we were we're talking about that. >> Next week we'll also meet with the referendum volunteer group. That's our final session because it's leading up to the election day and we have some they have asked for more literature and understanding about our tax bill. So we'll bring them some just understanding that security. They want to do some deeper digging and understanding about vouchers. So we're going to work on some literature so that they can just understand that. And then we're we'll we'll have two asks for that group. One is to take as many of these that we have yet to create but take stacks for us and help us distribute them. And we're kicking the

second ask is we're kicking around the idea of doing some door knocking over spring break. um couple hours for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday of spring break and uh seeking their feedback from the volunteer group if anyone's interested and then we would divide conquer you know areas of our city knocking on doors and stuffing these in doors if people donate. So it's very early in those ideas but we believe there's power in that work. >> When is spring break? It's the week of the 30th. >> Any questions or ideas around educating our community around the operational referendum >> on our community engagement spreadsheet. There's two tabs um at the end. One is for where literature has been distributed and the other is where the signs are located as far as I can keep track. We blanketed the

city pretty well with the literature >> question feedback. >> Sounds good. >> Thank you very much for all your work. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Yeah, she's everywhere. >> Everywhere I go is here. >> If you have changes to recommend to the postcard, if you could just try to get those to me today or by Friday morning at the latest. >> Okay. >> Thank you. Thank you, Melissa. >> All right, so now we're going to move on to the discussion about the board of education professional development. So, it's kind of been on hold, right? Some more pressing matters have arisen. Um, so really this is just a conversation if we want to start diving into that or if we'd like to even hold the discussion until after the April election cycle to go into

discussing more board professional development. Now, there is a professional development coming up that is offered by the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty. It is offered on April 24th. Um, so after the election, I do plan on getting an email out to the entire board, whatever that makeup is, to make them aware and see who would like to attend the Friday, April 24th session for the will conference that will be coming up. Uh, does anybody else have any would you like to add anything? How do you feel about holding off on professional development discussions until after the election is done and we know where we stand as far as referendum and stuff? >> I think it would be best for us to hold off on that personally. I think that would probably be it'll be

a little bit clearer after the referendum and after the election where we're going to go and I'd like to give, you know, any new potential newcomers opportunities to provide input. >> Okay, perfect. Anybody else? Hold off. >> Okay. Well, then it's decided we'll just hold off on professional development till after the election. Um, then we're going to move into the board of education survey updates. So, the survey copy that you see on here was the initial survey. The subcommittee did meet yesterday and they sent me an update. Um, Jason, I will get that update to you so it can be added to the monthly board meeting. Um, you're going to want to go ahead and look at that attachment when it is added to the monthly board meeting because there has been some adjustments made

to it. Julian, do you want to have there been a number of adjustments? >> Uh, sure. Yeah, there were a number of adjustments that we added. We add we tweaked some of the >> language in the questions that we put out originally and then we added a number of questions. >> Okay. >> And made the decision. Um, someone had said that anonymity may be important for return. So, we decided to leave it as an option. Okay. >> People can put their names on the survey or not. >> Okay. Okay. So, um, if you could, we'll go ahead and get that updated version sent to everybody. If you could look at it. Uh the plan is to at the monthly board meeting this month to vote on if we approve the survey and then move forward

with giving the survey after the April election is completed so that the we start a new cycle. Anybody have any questions, concerns? >> Sounds good to me. From my standpoint, I very much appreciate the questions about the onboarding experience um because I believe that that's extremely important. And so when I was onboarding several of you um throughout that process, it is something that we would be doing with any new uh board members as well. And so any feedback on that is greatly appreciated. >> Okay. >> All right. So, >> I mean, I would like to say I think that uh Linda shouldn't get out of taking this reven special edition just for her. >> It's going to be anonymous when I return it. >> Noted. We'll we'll figure it out, Dan. We'll get her in

the loop. Maybe she could be the test subject. Okay. And then we'll move on to action items present. I'm not sure we didn't get many from the meeting, right Jason? Just a few. >> Just have three. One is that uh Tammy will just share that the updated version of the survey and we'll make sure that it gets on the board agenda for March 23rd for our discussion. And I have uh Melissa will uh craft that disclaimer on our postcard relative to the Spanish version being on the website. I also have that the board of ed will forward any edits to that postcard to Melissa by I think Friday morning March 13th so we can get that to print. Those are the three things that I wrote down. We also typically today identify the uh person

that can help with the board update in 60 seconds. And so we typically do that on the Tuesday after the full board. So believe Dan did the last one. >> Who Who's available guys? I'm not available during the day. >> I could Linda, perfect. Thank you. >> Thank you, Linda. It would be a pleasure. >> And the only other thing I wrote down is as Sarah said, how important the board event on boarding is. We have some time, but we know we'll have at least one new member of the board. And so, I think planning committee really spearheads that work. Okay. >> Something for us to think about in advance. >> Okay. So, do we want to add it to a discussion that we have for the next planning meeting like how you like what

onboarding looks like, Jason, and then we can >> Okay, perfect. Would you have the survey results by that time? >> Well, it would be just us preemptively going over what what you guys think the board should take away from on boarding, right? And then >> Yep. I've got a I've got >> Yeah. And then we can send out the surveys and then you'll have a reflection of what you guys are wanting the board to take away and what the board is actually taking away after they've completed it. Right. >> Great. >> Got a hand. Oh, Craig. Go ahead, Craig. >> Maybe Craig can't hear me. Craig, >> but then I'll get feedback. >> Oh, I see. >> Um, let me see. Can I type in here? Can Angel, can you type in there or does

everybody have typing availability to see? >> I don't know if hearing us or not. >> He's unmuted. Yes. >> One one thing when we were doing the survey, we talked about adding an aspect of mentoring component for any new board member having volunteers on the board be uh willing to be a mentor. So that part would be added and implemented even before the survey would be out I would think. Right. I'm assuming everybody wants it. >> Whoever anybody volunteers >> Craig said yes. Okay, Craig can hear us. Okay. >> Does Sarah Jason do you want to dial Craig on your cell phone? Okay. Okay. >> Craig, we're gonna call you on on yourself. Oh, I got you, Greg. I'm going to put you on speaker phone, just so you know. >> Craig, are you there?

>> I know that if you're talking, we can't hear you, Craig. This is a world of high tech. >> Yeah, >> appears disconnected from >> I think he disconnected. >> Pick up the call. >> Are you there? I can't hear you, Craig. Something's going on with your sound. call back. Okay. He's probably calling me. Give him five seconds for it. Now we're playing. Okay, we'll wait. >> So there, >> right? Yes, we can hear you now. Okay. What was your question? >> So weird. Um, yeah. So basically and typically the board president is involved with the um with the onboarding process as well. >> Yes. >> So if there's a if there's a a meeting of like a like a subcommittee to go through that process, I' I'd be happy to be part of that.

>> And I think that board leadership including Sam would be a part of that as well. >> Sure. >> Okay. Okay. So just to reiterate just in case the eyes is not picking it up. Craig had called saying that usually board leadership the president is involved in onboarding and if there's a subcommittee created he he is happy to be involved in that. Perfect. Thanks Craig. While we have you on the phone is there anything else? >> No, not that I not that I can think of. >> Okay. Perfect. All right you guys. >> All right. Thanks. All right. So, anything else to f to action items? Oh, go ahead. >> Can I just ask a general question? Um, in compar I'm looking at Melissa because and Jason and Sarah would know too, but in comparison

to last year's effort for the referendum >> and this year's effort for the referendum from the district. >> Yeah. >> How did those things compare? Well, we didn't do a survey the year before. >> Okay. >> Um, we have hit up some more I would say congregation um things right now. >> There was one other piece that I was like dead last year. >> Literally congregations as in churches. >> Yes. Okay. >> Which is important. >> No, you said three things. >> I did. I said three things because I was I was on this other thing that I was absolutely bent on that we should have done last year and now it has escaped my mind. >> But we did it this year. >> Whatever that was, we did that this year. >> Okay, we're

good. >> We hope our messaging is just a little stronger than it was last year, too. Especially trying for me >> in trying to convey, you know, what really is at stake. >> That's what it was and the the need for it. I think it's just better understood. But plus, we've had a year of discussion out in the community which hopefully, you know, I hope there aren't a lot of people who aren't aware there's something going on regarding a referendum for schools. >> Thank you. >> Did you do it in Spanish last year, too? >> Yes. Everything that we could we translated to Spanish. It's just hard, like I said, with with a mailer because we can't target which households or or which language spoken, but yes. So, everything is always translated. And if you

go out to our website right now, our front and back flyer is there with a button to view in Spanish. >> Okay? >> And when we post our videos too, since we post them through YouTube, they automatically have a translation option. So whatever the end user's desired language is, it will they'll be close captioning in that language. >> Good. Okay. So then >> the word ubiquitous English people that's our word >> and we have buttons this year too. We didn't have buttons last year. So this is a t this is a tipping point for sure button. >> Made by students. Made by students. And and are they available for outside hire to your knowledge or how does that work? >> You mean the reach students? >> Yes. to make buttons in general. So, we actually

um had posters up in different buildings with a QR code to be able to download um pictures. We do them for sporting events and other things. And then um they create buttons, but right now they are busy creating vote buttons. >> Yes. >> And they can also make these into magnets. >> Yes. >> This reminds me of something. Every once in a while in one of our meetings, a program that this district has is mentioned. >> I didn't know about discovery. This is the first I've ever heard reach. So, I don't know if we as a board need a tutorial on all the No. And maybe I'm just plain ignorant and that is highly possible, but I I yay, we have them, but I didn't know. And so, um, I've tried to catch up on

those things. That's something that would be helpful for us to learn all about these various programs. >> Well, and what a wonderful opportunity for these types of programs to come on in and do a very brief presentation during board meetings to highlight the student impact um on programming and um growth and achievement. Perfect. All right. Okay. So, past action items, I think we've conquered them all, Jason. Right. There's nothing lingering. >> And future agenda planning. >> Yeah, I think that we uh will be talking about those goals um regularly. I think we'll be talking probably future about professional development of survey especially once we gather some data. >> Okay. >> Um and then um I don't know where on boarding will fall but I think that'll be a future item as well. >> Okay. >>

About the process and how we continue to refine it >> and referendum outcome. >> Yes. Yes. Absolutely. Great work. Okay, our next meeting is set for Are we going to do an April meeting, Jason, or are we skipping April and going to the May? Because right now May 6 is what's noted on the agenda? Do we want an April planning meeting to just discuss or do we want to skip April and just head right into May? >> We had added some in the leadup to the referendum. The typical cadence is every other. >> I feel like given the April 7th outcome, we could probably get back to the regular cadence. That's just my opinion. Okay. Of every other one. >> We we did have a board retreat scheduled early in I don't know if it

was in April or I guess it wouldn't be April. >> I saw it I saw it on some calendar recently for May sometime. >> Yeah. So, if we can, we may have to have a meeting to try to figure out what we're doing for that board treatment, you know. >> Okay. So, then have an April meeting so we can discuss the board retreat. >> Correct. >> Got it. Could it be uh April 14th, I think if we follow the same double check, April 15th, I believe. Yeah, April 15th would be the typical cadence if we wanted to do that. >> Okay, let's do the April 15th planning so we can discuss the board retreat for me. >> Sounds great. >> All right, then I'll adjourn the meet. If no, there's nothing else, guys. All right,

then I'll adjourn the meeting at 607. >> Too efficient. I think I think you lost.
