teaching at Gateway Elementary last year teaching staff received a much needed and well-earned raise it helped a little but School Employees are still struggling to make in meet and the raise wasn't enough to close the gap of the fight Rising costs that come with living in this area th this year we expected you to close the gap and we were highly disappointed to find out this wasn't the case please increase the board's contribution we were also told that more money was going to be coming for supplements numerous teachers myself included direct clubs and coach before and after school we are basically volunteering for example this year I held a 1hour art club before contract time 46 times this year approximately 30 students in each club and I was paid the grand total $22 now it
isn't written into our contract that clubs or team sports are required but it is an Unwritten demand that they are done admin parents and students alike all make this feel like an expectation next year if we don't receive supplements that pay us our worth there will be no Art Club at my school there will be no chorus or drums or run club either we can't afford to work for free imagine a year with no clubs no NHS no om no team sports it's not fair to the kids and it's not fair to us again please increase the board's contribution the district has money to spend but it is putting it in the wrong places for example money Wasted by purchasing yet another costly reading program oh and paying out Dr berer stop wasting money stop
giving us lowball offers you are here because we teach every day teaching is harder than ever before and we can't afford to stay put with being disrespected by you and students alike we are done we will quit there isn't anyone coming to take our places you want us to be a worldcast district act like it thank you good evening my name is Carrie Pucket and I'm a proud teacher of the Lee County School District for the past 28 years I came here tonight to have my voice heard I work for sterl high school currently and next year for the next school year we need a new principal and I here to tell you who I believe is the correct person for the job I 100% believe that Miss Jer celic is perfect for this job
I've known Miss celic for almost 20 years and I began my career with her as a colleague I was a kindergarten teacher and she was in third grade Miss celic and I throughout the years Miss celic saw something in me and encouraged me to go on and get my reading endorsement to be able to teach reading K through 12 so then I made the choice 11 years ago to jump from kindergarten up to the high school level today I am now estero's Reading Coach proud Reading Coach I'm a reading teacher and I'm also a key member on our academic leadership and all because Miss celic not only encouraged me but believed in me now I can't imagine teaching anywhere else Mrs celic is always there to encourage others to strive for more and is right
there to support us along the way she's a true Visionary when it comes to staff students Logistics of running a building Mrs celic will do all that she can to support all her students and her staff works works tireless hours day in and day out this is Miss celik's moment she has worked extremely hard in all the roles she has held over the years and I have no doubt that she will make an exceptional next well- kep principal thank you good evening my name is Connie edman and I've been working for the district for about five years and I'm just going to start with the last two and I'm speaking to the board collectively your leadership has just been plain sloppy and you have not been living up to the world class system that we
are striving to be I would argue the teachers are and I would highly encourage you if you get a chance to just come inside some of the classes that we teach and actually spend some time with us in the actual classroom please increase the board's contribution we really do need your help we need you to work with us and not against us and we need to work together what we're hoping for is a bit more equity we still haven't received our cost of living adjustment raise and this is desperately needed our supplements are not enough and I saw the beautiful representation that Miss Wilson put here today but I wonder if you know what it takes to make a program like this valuable many many hours and the $22 for our supplements are not enough
they really do need to be readdressed and again we need more of your help I want to speak to the lack of diversity that I see on this panel the student body that you are representing is rapidly changing and you do not look like it and I would like to see as a educator in this district for you to look more reflective of the student body you're supposed to be representing and if you did that your leadership skills would probably strengthen because there's always diversity there's always strength and diversity when the District employees actually make the time to reach out to you please give them an opportunity to dialogue with you and not put them on an unsubscribe list so I thank you Mr Fisher for responding to my email he did respond he did
put all of you on it so I appreciate that what I did not appreciate was the unsub the unsubscribe list email that I got back because if you're going to put in your email feel free to respond then please give me a pathway to do that was incredibly rude and that's someone who works for the district so if I take the time to email you I'm doing it for a reason I don't waste people's time another thing I want to speak about is the lack of the leadership that I see and I'm hoping that it gets better I want to talk about the severance pay for our past superintended I didn't like the way that was handled I didn't like seeing it on the news before I was told from the saint your time is
up thank you so I appreciate thank you for the following individuals please line up Robert rer Michael love Dr Paula Porter Michael borina Laura White hi there my name is Evelyn Kirby and I am coming to you both as a teacher at Estero High School and as a parent of past present and future Estero Wildcats I am here because next year we will be looking for we will be hiring a new principal and I wanted to stand behind Miss Jennifer seu because I think she would be the perfect candidate for the job she would estah would benefit from Miss cel's experience as an administrator she has written and received numerous grants for past Schools she's worked for she partners with local businesses for both to strengthen both student and employees a relationship with the community
she recognizes talent and knows how to get the best out of people she recognized talent in me outside of school she is not only a teacher and a mother but she is also she gives her time in the community we are both parents of USA swimmers USA competitive swimmers and she is a nationally ranked USA swimming off official and she has guided me along the way in that particular line of of of community service as well and she pushed me to get further along as well so she does that in the school as well as outside the school and I just would like finally to say that I am the daughter of a young girl and while we have had some very strong and wonderful male principles at Estero High School I think it's time
to have a strong female leadership a strong female principal at stero high school thank you so much hello my name is latata Starks and I'm a fourth grade teacher at Orange River Elementary School I am a mother and I am a proud member of my Teachers Association of Lee County this time of year as we're faced with that final six weeks of school I usually ask my students to do a 32 1 it's one of my favorite things to do because we kind of get to that point of the Year where we're like I'm tired I don't want to do anymore and I challenge them to hey let's reflect on what we've done let's move forward with my 321 I usually say hey what are three things that you love two things that challenge you
or continue to challenge you and one thing that you need from me as we continue so here's my 32 one to you saw it coming I'm sure one three things that I love I love my students I love that they're learning in a safe and nurturing environment I love that my administrators continue to be educated in the needs of students and also continue to work to support their staff I love that my colleagues are supportive and that we work together to increase Student Success two things that I find challenging supporting two children in Lee County with the salaries of two teachers both with at least 10 years of experience okay I find that extremely challenging I also find it challenging to supplement my income the hours are too late for me to get a second
job and honestly the supplements that we are allowed to get while we're helping continue our school Community are so little that we can do nothing with them I'm here because I listening to the bargaining I was slightly disappointed to hear that the team said that they were told not to come back and ask the board for anything any more money not to return to the board and that just feels very one-sided it feels very strange to have that Avenue closed so a lot of us are here today and will continue to come because if they can't make the ask then we will so guess what my number one is the one thing I need from you is to increase the bargaining authority authority so that those negotiating our contract can continue to address the compression
issues that are still disturbing continue to address the disturbingly low supplements where teachers are getting paid $6 $5 $4 an hour for the work they're putting in and to continue to help the teachers who are feeling extremely challenged just living in the county that they work in I went to college I got a degree I live with another teacher we can't support two children worth a DN on what we make okay that is unacceptable thank you so much for your time Robert roer no surprise I want to talk to you about a book tonight it's a book that according to Genesis Book of World Records is the number one bestseller of all time with an estimated 5 billion copies sold and distributed it's a book that archaeologists philosophers scientists Educators even National Geographic refer to
it this book was written over a period of approximately 1,400 years 40 different authors in three different languag on three different continents and its one story perfectly preserved for thousands of years folks from all walks of life contributed to the pages of this book Kings Farmers fishermen doctors government officials and Shepherds it's not just one book it's actually 66 independent books divided into two parts the Old Testament and the New Testament the Old Testament predicts a coming savior the New Testament fulfills Those Old Testament prophecies or predictions and it documents the time that was so valuable that it actually divides time I did a public records request to see just how many of this amazing how many of these amazing books we have in the Lee County public school system and I was astonished at
the result that there was Zero I'm talking about the Bible there were also no Mormon texts no Jewish Torah no Muslim Quran no Buddhist or Hindu text the result was a big fat zero 5 billion copies of the Bible have been sold 800 million of the Quran 190 million of the Book of Mormon some have pointed out that Within These pages of the Bible are scenes of violence and even sexual content funny when I point out the same thing for books that are in the libraries here and have been challenged I'm told that those are taken out of context you must read the entire book if the Bible is just a book why are we so afraid of it is there any danger given to a child for reading it if the book is not
true then what are we afraid of the obvious reason or response is an assumption of a requirement for the separation of church in state or government shall not establish a religion there is no such law many districts in the State of Florida have the book and some have defended vehemently just wanted to point that out thank you good evening Dr Paula Porter Lehigh Acres on Monday the curriculum advisory committee will re-evaluate the media access form but why does LE County Schools need such a form Destiny software accessible to the parents already provides full and explicit parental choice of all learning materials and books rendering the form unnecessary another fact about the media access form being unnecessary is there is no state law requiring that a school district have such a form the book challenge form
and process which is mandated by law has nothing to do with the media access form it's also been explained that the media access form is not connected with Destiny so how does it coordinate with Destiny when a student wants to check out a book to my understanding staff must check out not only Destiny but whatever the data from the media access form is stored since Destiny does not connect with the software holding the media access information this means an extra review of two different data sources or the media access form information would have to be entered by hand for the 100,000 students in Destiny this is a daunting and unnecessary bureaucratic task to ask of our Educators taking away from their primary focus of educating our children last year when the form was created some
board members explained that the media access form protected the students yet I have never heard an explanation as to how this form protects students or from what this form is supposed to protect them from the real answer is that the media access form does not protect students from anything nor does it give parents additional rights outside already available via Destiny in the field of academics we are required to provide evidence it's important in today's climate that evidence and logical reasoning are applied to provide students with a diverse and personalized choice of learning materials with parental approval the parents have full rights and Destiny to make those choices without the existence of the media access form the taxpayers have paid for Destiny its relevant tool that protects the rights of parents to make choices as well
as give children the choice for what they wish to learn let's cut out the confusing political rhetoric about protecting students and parental rights the media access form does neither and should be eliminated thank you will the following individuals please line up Robert Daniels Lisa Taylor Alan Dian Shapero Jennifer florac charotte Fox my name is Laura White and I'm a teacher with 23 years of experience here is a glimpse of what I do in my 47 minute planning period number one I go to the bathroom two visit the office really quick three a lesson plan with objectives key questions materials procedures ongoing informal and formal evaluations add supplemental lessons to the overall lesson that involves making quality exemplars and provide information on the Google slides for additional support number four I update the Google classroom and
that Common Board from my lesson plans number five I make accommodations modifications for students who have 504s IEPs and Li students in every class number six I grade those 210 assignments and make personal comments and enter it into the computer number seven I type into Focus any pertinent conversations I had with students and parent contacts I made so Administration can be aware number seven I have to prep materials number eight answer emails number nine send parent links or make parent phone calls number 10 email or call counselors about various student failings excessive absences or other concerns I have number 11 write my part for the IEPs for upcoming meetings woo all this without even doing any of the heavy lifting which is actually teach retach and run a well-managed classroom every single 47 minutes teachers
are always on the go go go and if we can't get everything done which we never do it waits until the next day because we're not taking it home to continue with this work that is unpaid we deserve to be treated as professionals with degrees who are compensated by the districts like other professionals are the tel bargaining unit needs more money from the board authority like last year to ret to retain the best and the brightest and then lastly I would also like to recommend Miss Jennifer seu I believe will be best sered as our next principal of a stero high school thank you very much Michael a bbina Jr the first thing I want to say is thank you for what you did with Bayshore the K through she appreciates it she loves going
there you did that not that long ago but I'm also here as a t building rep tonight and my teachers did ask me to address those supplements that it really isn't enough some of these people have been coaching for years and years and that never sees an increase and they're at the point that they're ready to just go work somewhere else outside of school instead and that hey it was I want to thank you for that last year too for giving us that boost that did help a lot but we are facing higher rents higher you know higher prices on buying a house higher prices on everything and we could use that much again to to get us through myself I worked in Regal in the cinema selling tickets on Saturdays and Sundays for 5
years when I wasn't in the classroom Monday through Friday to make things work and get it there then we got hit by the hurricane and I became a construction worker with my dad rebuilding our walls and floors and getting that all put together and some of you I told you about that recently and I think three or four of you wrote back to me so thank you for hearing me out yeah we just really we really do need the money to make it to be able to stay here I want her to be able to graduate from here I want to be able to keep working here and it's the only way we'll be able to do it is to to have that pay also on a last note as a teacher we're supposed to
be able there's a program out there where we're supposed to be able to go and get your down payment taken care of buying a house and your closing cost I found out one week beforehand that I wasn't getting it that when I had to get the house or don't get it I had to get it cuz where would we go at that point so if there's any millionaires or billionaires hearing us tonight and you want to throw me that 14,000 to write that I don't I don't mind I'm I'm not too proud I'll take it I thank you I had one more thing but it's lost thank you very much Robert Daniels I've been a teacher with the district for starting 13 years come this fall I've been coming to you for a long time
talking about the need to increase teacher pay in order to in teacher retention I started when I first came here by telling you the story of what was going on in Hawaii I'm not going to recount that story for the sake of time but on PBS if you go on YouTube and look up Hawaii teacher shortage you can watch a series of videos that sound very very similar to the situation in our district as their economy is very similar to ours what I do have here and I'm going to disagree with everyone else I'm not asking you for a raise I'm asking you to restore our wages to where they've been historically for the last 50 years in Florida we are the ninth largest District in Florida 32nd in the United States we'd like to
talk about that and we want to say that we're going to be a worldclass school district but we aren't even approaching the averages when it comes to these wages historically in 1970 average teacher wage this is adjusted for today's dollars 695,000 1990 average wage 70 A5 th000 2,000 average wage 68,000 here's the one I had to put in the calculator four times before I believed it 2010 average wage those dollar 65,000 today's dollars 935,000 that's St and pay for an AM minute straighter as our average teacher wage in Florida 15 years ago that's insane I make 58 sorry $58,800 after the raises priorly that's still over 30,000 short of that Mark it's incredible our average wage right now is about 56,000 somebody here earlier speaking in behalf of your committees said that our retention rates
are average for the nation do we want to be average I thought we wanted to be world class you know first class school system world class school system we can't be a world class school system with the biggest impact for any child is having good teachers in the classroom saying that we're content with average retention instead of excellent better than average retention the best retention ever in fact nobody wants to leave CU we pay them and treat them so good is like claiming that you're a genius while bragging about your IQ score of a 98 it don't make sense thank you hello my name is Lisa Taylor and I'm in my 16th year of teaching and I teach 8th grade science at g Middle School great school love my Administration by the way so I'm
coming today asking for you guys to give the board authority bargaining unit more money for our salaries and my concern is not so much the new teacher salary and I'm not saying that shouldn't be higher but as professionals with college degrees to come into a profession where your prospect to advanc your salary and your lifestyle and what you are working so hard for is very dim for us so I went back and I looked and I found the 2012 2013 talk agreement posted online and I went back and I found the steps and I looked where I would be in the steps if we still had steps and I would would be at step 11 okay and the pay for Step 11 in 2012 2013 was $ 49,679 okay for a teacher in their 16th
year which I will be next year because we're bargaining for next year right when I put this in the Bureau of Labor and statistics website calculator it tells me that salary is equivalent to 67,68 as far as today's salary you purchasing power and for me that would mean an 8% raise okay that's not what you guys are offering so I feel like we're taking steps backward and my concern is that when they took away steps they promoted to us as somebody who would go on an annual contract that we would have the ability to make more money be a Highly Effective Teacher and you are going to do better than these steps this is the way it was touted to us and it has not come to F fruition okay we are making less the
raises I mean I mean I've got 15 years in and if you take a new teacher salary to my salary without giving my salary away it's significantly under $1,000 a year that's sad I'm sorry it really is as a professional to think that 15 years in that I'm going to have a 10 or so thousand raise over 15 years of very hard work as a teacher someone just said how much we do every day and I hope I think and I hope that you understand how hard our job is and how how hard it's gotten in the last five years cuz it's gotten a lot harder okay that's sad and I know they addressed the compression in the last bargaining unit but was not enough because I this is where I'm still at I'm still
at less than $1,000 a year significantly less than a beginning teacher 15 years in and this is a problem with retention is that thank you for your comments your time is up ma'am thank you good evening thank you for giving me the chance to speak my name is Alan Dian Shapiro and I have been a resident of stero since 2005 and I have been a teacher in Lee County Public Schools since 2008 when I made a career shift from having been a scientist so when I first started I was absolutely flabbergasted and impressed by the quality of the teachers that I got to know both his colleagues and through my children both of my children went all the way through Lee County Public Schools graduated and are do now doing very well in life they
got an excellent education about half of the people actually possibly more than half that I met who were teachers were second career people they were people who had a wealth of experience from all avenues of life and then then added to that teaching experience very impressive group of people something different has been happening within the last 5 years within the Last 5 Years A lot of them have been leaving the school system I know this is a serious issue for the board because the board has addressed it before of teacher retention it's been a serious issue for a lot of the people who presented it today my daughter is now employed with by the Boston public schools in her first year of Boston Public Schools the rent she pays to live in the greater Boston
area is approximately the same as the rent that I see people her age paying here she makes almost my salary if we go with what the board contribution is now and no more money next year she will make more than my salary and I am still grandfathered in and paid for my PhD so this is a problem it is not the only reason why I've seen a mass Exodus of the experienced career veteran teachers with who have every so much to bring and some much to give to our children but it is certainly a major issue anecdotally I've have heard several of my friends say that they're planning to move to another state just so that they can get their retirements funded now you put a hold on this last year last year there was
enough of a contribution that people were starting to think that maybe this could happen every year and maybe we could catch up maybe we would not be the 48th in the country in terms of average teacher salaries what we need is not what you offered which the number bandied about was 5% but some back of the envelope calculations with all the set acides out of that it's probably about a three and a half to 4% raise so basically keeping even with inflation that is not going to catch us up we need many years of the same sort of commitment as last year the board need needs to allocate more dollars to the bargaining unit so that we could have a raise comparable to last year I'm not going to pretend it's the only reason our
teachers are leaving but it's certainly a major one thank you very much will the following individuals please line up Dr meline Stewart Lun naara Sara Braven Tim Rose good evening my name is Jennifer Floric I've been teaching for 21 years 3 years in Florida I had come here to speak about an Estero admin I'm going to divert really quickly just after hearing fellow teachers speak I don't work for Lee County I work for Bonita Springs Charter School Le County said I could not work for them because or I chose not to work for Lee County because my Master's Degree was not good enough to get the Master's pay when I moved here from Illinois I made $98,000 when I left Illinois with 19 years teaching I came here and what you pay teachers is embarrassing
it is half of what I was making when I left education there if I did not have a husband I couldn't teach and I'm just speaking for fellow teachers again I am not an employee of Lee County I also coached in Illinois and made $3,500 coaching soccer there is no reason teachers are making $22 to $700 to coach that is a lot of time that they spend outside of school but back to the reason I am here I am a parent of an Estero high school student he is a freshman I have two more children that will be going to a stero High School in the next 3 to four years I am here to speak to you about your next possible principal I think Miss Jennifer celic should be your next principal she has
gone above and beyond numerous times my son comes home on a daily basis and tells me she greets him daily she asks him how his day is asks him if he needs help with stuff he does not know by face who any of the other admin at that school are she goes out of her way to make sure to greet all the students she brings food to give food to children who do not have lunches yes I know you have a free lunch but extra snacks and things for the students she supports all of her staff as you've heard from a whole bunch who have come here she is definitely earn this position and if you want to keep the quality of Education you have at a stero high school because I love what I
see with my son in the Cambridge program please please please have Miss jonfer celik as your next principal of Estero high school thank you good evening board Charla Fox I am a proud result of the Le County School system born and raised here educated here I am a proud teacher in the Lee County School System but we have got to do something we say we are want trying to be a worldclass system we have to treat each other as world class I have people who have not come here tonight because they can't they're working their second or third job teachers support personnel people who cannot just live on their pay for doing what we do every day a teacher normally puts in at least 56 hours a week in order to do what we do
our support people put in amazing hours and time with our students we need to support them we need to show that we are a world class system we talk about teacher Recruitment and Retention onethird of CER County Teachers live in Lee County they teach in cure because they can get $5,000 more a year right off the bat we have got to make a plan to have the type of money that needs to be to thund our school system if we say the students are our most important thing then we've got to put the most important people in front of them whether they be support Personnel or whether they be teachers and we've got to pay them like we feel that they are important so they can live here I have fellow teachers that are leaving
this year not because they want to leave education because they can't live on it I have had teachers this year that cannot stay in the educational system they've already taken other jobs in the middle of the year because they cannot afford to stay in education I have others that are leaving the state because they cannot live in Lee County and teach I am asking you to go back and tell your bargaining agent that yes you will put forward more money and you need to be able to find a sustain sustainable way to do it even if it's not something that is always the most politically desirable at times we've got to step up and say this is what's needed I'm asking you to put forward more good evening meline Stewart first I want to comment
on the media access form but first kudos to Dr Savage and Dr Spyro for underscoring the need for evidence and data in decision making in our district while we wait for the data to learn how much staff time was needed to manage the media access form I want to go back to the very beginning and ask why do we need the media access form it is not required by the state in fact most districts do not have a form and see no reason for it you the board has in has in effect created have in effect have created a self-imposed unfunded unnecessary mandate unnecessary because there are three processes in place to meet our educational needs one we have highly qualified Librarians teachers curriculum Specialists administrators and parents all involved in the selection of the
educational collections for classrooms and media centers two parents through the use of Destiny and through direct contact with teachers Librarians and P principles are able to communicate their choices for their own students access to books as is their right and their responsibility and number three as mandated by unfunded by the state all educational materials in classrooms and library media centers are being vetted according to State criteria certainly these three processes are more than enough so that we don't have to have a redundant media access form we need to find out how much staff time was spent and how much that cost the district and the taxpayers so may I respectfully suggest that you use the data that is going to be provided to learn to learn the cost of the taxpayers of your self-imposed mandate
and then decide if the time of school district professionals could be better spent teaching students to read on grade level and love learning thank you good after good evening Schoolboard superintendent welcome back like welcome back cter good to see you back doctor and I have a suggestion I want to be a little phous here we'll put a chair with rollers so when you come back and then you go back it's been so sad with what keeps going on here with the district but I'm going to diverge from my speech because I see these poor people begging for money and they're not kidding shame on all you now you know I've asked to raise the pay to 70,000 used to be 65 however if we raise it to 70 you guys can make 70 you'll be
near the city council of tape Coral the mayor with 110 Grand and the council members with 81,000 see there is a silver lining to this it's very sad I'm I they're hum they're humiliated you know I want to talk about the books again I'm not even going to talk about the superintendent the old one I was going through my son's stuff he was a teacher here 5 years highly qualified he quit so as I went through his educational materials I found his library and lo and behold here was a book that I had with him in the library Mr n for check out it's a rocket catalog and I'm going to leave it here today I want Debbie Jordan my district lady here to bring it to miss Diggs and I want you guys to
put this in administrative lockdown by Mr osia books is it ridiculous yeah but I want you to do it that's how out of syn everybody is and I blame the politicians too anyway it's sad and it's sad when my son was top ranked here highly qualified when I got highly unqualified and he quit broke my heart but I also wanted tell you Dr Bernier wherever you are I've still got your challenge coin and I know you got what 20 weeks of advice what you didn't call me like I asked you to so if next time you call in for advice call Lou I do respect that man thank you help those teachers will you please this is awful you all sleep nights yeah have to B good evening my name is Tim Rose president of
the stero Mustangs football and cheer Association I also coach at stero High School football apologize I came from the field and I go right back there after I'm done I'm here to discuss a little different topic tonight all be quite important to the kids in Lee County School School District the district's plans for the for sports facility on Williams Road specifically I'm looking for a reasonable solution and inclusion into the conversation about parking on the mockups and the diagrams that I've seen for the shortterm and the long term as someone who spends as much time at that area between the high school field and the Park field that doesn't work for County maintenance I love what you're doing I'm elated that Estero is investing in something that isn't just for the retirees and snowbirds and
we're putting our kids there I love it I think it's important we run a solid program that's winning the battle for the children's character not on the scoreboard that's what we're focused on we support over 3 families from ages 4 to 14 boys and girls this lot that is in question seems to be the lay down area for the equipment in the upcoming build and it's going to be replaced by baseball field we support games there and eventually there'll be too much too much parking to get there without a solution to the parking we'll be faced as the parking problem we will somebody's calling me sorry we will not be able to run home games without the home games we won't be able to sponsor kids we won't have Revenue we won't have ability to
put these kids in the program these kids are not only in the school district that for us they're moving up to the high school so mostly Elementary but they're moving into high school and I see them at high school so without parking we want to have an opportunity that we will be forced to use probably the roads Williams Road bod Boulevard we'll be doing it'll be a massive traffic problem and some of the suggestions are put the kids or put the cars out by the high school it's almost a half a mile away it's too far for families with young kids we'll have to put another deputy that we pay for by the way for security I love what they do but they're not cheap most importantly if you forget anything else looking at that
mockup as somebody who's served overseas served law enforcement here you guys don't have not you the drawing does not have an adequate ambulance plan we have about five heat injuries a year that require a dunk tank one on average requires an ambulance just looking at the drawing and I know it's a schematic and we're early on I get it you don't have egress and Ingress for law enforcement we call cops maybe once or twice a year for something either an issue but if you don't fix that's a real issue we I'm just asking that we look at some sort of solution in interterm for parking long-term for parking we have a commercial thing going in I think chicken and pickle ball to the to the West we're going to get squeezed out we're the only
facility and with 300 kids we're the highest tenant user at that facility we're toast it's not only going to affect us it's going to be affect the teams that we play so all I'm asking here I spoke at County last week is I'd like to check in more have more comp more conversations as we go forward because like I said there's a major safety issue plus a revenue issue to thank you Mr chairman that concludes public comment thank you attorney debr Bruno Dr Savage or attorney debris Bruno is there anything you wish to follow up in regards to public comment tonight I actually do not Mr chairman U Mr chairman I certainly will have a staff member reach out about the Aero facility piece of the most recent the overwhelming comments today were on the
topic of the U negotiations and because we are currently in negotiations May would not be proper for me to make any substantive comments on that process okay thank you Dr Mr chairman I'm so sorry there is actually one person who would like to speak that was on the list but we didn't I didn't see her standing is Miss Sarah Braven okay sorry about that please proceed whenever you're ready I won't be long my name is Sarah Braun and I live in Bonita Springs and I'm I'm coming to you because I'm concerned about the upcoming qac meeting that's going to the scheduled for next Monday I had written to all of you about my concerns about the safety I think you got several emails about that and I did hear back from the School Board attorney
thank you that there will be security measures in place and that makes me feel a little bit better I really appreciated that my other concern about the meeting was the way that it was run I think it's going to be the same committee chair or the same person facilitating it again and unfortunately he had a really tough time managing a rowdy crowd and I'm wondering if it's possible to have somebody come in who knows Robert's Rules of order as a kind of parliamentarian I doubt there's time to train him in that so I just wanted to put that out there cuz I think going along with safety is you know being able to hear each other complete motions Etc so thank you very much for your time okay was there anything else to turn to
Bri that now concludes public comment thank you okay and anything else from either of you I don't have anything else okay I was going to follow up again like Dr Savage said we're in the middle of bargaining negotiation so it would not be proper to comment the only thing I can tell all of you in this board agree that we hear you we appreciate everything you do don't forget that so a couple other minor comments qak regards to that many of us did listen to the meeting with that and I know we will have people there and the I did discuss with the chair of that committee well with attorney to Bri Bruno just to make sure we're up on that we did listen so we're follow up on that last thing is I believe

was born and raised right here in Fort Meers I started kindergarten at pinewoods Middle School at Bonita middle and now the high school at Bonita Springs High during my years in the district I've noticed changes of course new schools are filled with so many opportunities andies along with different events or Expos within the district elective classes are no longer very selective but now it's so difficult to choose because of all the great things that are offered in schools along with this I can appreciate how the Lee County School District does more than focus on students enrolled within the school at that time but also prepare students for the next step with Advanced programs by partnering with fsw or FGCU to continue the district does a good job with communication about opportunities through email chains and
the website now moving on as a TV production director we're always striving to be the best however technology can be challenging and have implications that impede ease of use during the 2324 school year the school district disabled the feature of emailing other peers within the district with that said the absence of this functionality substantially impairs our ability to create new segments effectively a suggestion for the Lee County School District would be to allow students in specific classes the ability to email peers an idea would be a waiver process depending on your student role within classes in the district currently the Lee County School District offers an alternative to traditional disciplinary actions called the restorative practices restorative practices focus on resolving conflict and repairing harm in my opinion the use of circles and peer-led practices to
resolve conflict does not resolve the problem at hand my suggestion to the Lee County School District is to segue back towards Progressive discipline which uses increasingly steps or measures to resolve a problem excuse me as my time within the Lee County School District comes to an end with only 18 school days remaining until graduation I'd like to express my appreciation to all of you who have impacted my educational Journey a huge thank you to Mr essis the proud principal of Bas Springs High School and Mrs paig Mel a dedicated teacher at Bas Springs Middle School and of course my parents getting me to where I am today thank you once again for allowing me to come up here and speak thank you thank you Lucas we're going to stay at that end with Miss Morgan
there is nothing more I love than someone who presents a problem and offers a solution so that was that was terrific and I thought you asked two really good questions and I hope the administration can find a way to work with you to towards Solutions so kudos to you because this has been terrific thank you those are my comments Miz Langford Fleming I was going to make comments earlier but we went long so I'm going to go ahead and do that now first of all excellent job I agree with you completely I love whenever you all are up here and you let us know how can we improve what a student is dealing with dayto day so thank you and I cannot wait to hear you on like the voice of the Florida State seminal
or something sorry that was a plug but sorry Mr persons I did want to say a few things Franklin Park outstanding job this afternoon our music program across the district are just amazing I did want to reiterate how impressed I was about what we have to look forward to with our summer camps and I encourage parents listening to go on the district website and pull that information up this afternoon we were many of us were able to attend the foundation for Education graduate program and I my eyes almost popped out of my head whenever I heard them say 555 Plus ,000 in scholarships have been offered to these students who've gone through this program who've been committed they've got amazing mentors and a great parent support and support throughout their entire education when they walked
into this program so I would like to thank the foundation for one always being the backbone of this program and two so many people that I come across have no idea that this program even exists and we've got some amazing talented people in our district that I think would be wonderful mentors to these young men and women going through when I heard I mean I think I think Marshall said today we're not going to have a nursing s shortage because so many people are going into healthc care so I thought that was great the other thing I wanted to add was it's always such an honor to go to the golden apple and we had so many people or teachers there and people that I also used to teach with that became teachers of Distinction
and those people shouldn't be unnoticed at all the amount of public comment tonight regarding teacher pay which we can't really discuss has not fallen on deaf ears I can promise you that this board is committed to doing what we can and I'm sorry that I'm speaking for the team but I do really feel like we are we are going to come to the table with what we can and what you do truly matters and then I'll end on the note that one of my fa actually my favorite week of the entire school year besides graduation week is Teacher Appreciation week and that is coming up in May so I encourage our community members to partner with the school and treat our teachers really well in the coming month that's all I have thank you Mr
psons Lucas Gators I've already said all my other comments earlier in the other meetings but wherever you go I'm sure you're going to be a success and I also look forward to hearing your voice somewhere television somewhere maybe even from space you know they talk to that's all missord well I gave most of my things today Lucas I wanted to say congratulations on your graduation coming up thank you for being here and for what you do really appreciate that and having that voice I think is really important so thank you for that Franklin Park I was so excited to see them here and just knowing that these are the students that are going to be in the new school because they're third grade so they will see that coming up and then the only other
thing I wanted to do is I just wanted to pause for a moment this evening to pay tribute to the legacy of Mrs Emma Dixon troop and Miss Pandora Williams their esteemed retired Lee County educator Educators and memorable community members who recently passed away this week they were I think collectively 60 70 years plus so a lot of lives they touched their dedication and impact on our school Community and in our community Community will be remembered with deep gratitude I extent a heartfelt condolence to their families friends former colleagues and former students May their contributions continue to inspire us in our pursuit to excellent education and thank you for me letting me do that's it thank you Miss Patria like many of you I gave my comments earlier today but I do have a couple
if if I could get some more clear guidance on what is considered a oh my gosh I can't even remember what I'm asking for guidance on unfair Labor practice in terms of my response to many of the comments that were made tonight because some of what was said was just false and I'm not clear on why we can't respond in more general terms about what is said when it's not true you know what I mean yeah so you don't have to give me that guidance now you can write a memo or do something maybe in one-on On's I don't want to put you on the spot I just don't want to find myself sitting here again unable to respond when things are said that are not accurate yeah I what I can say is right
now because we're negotiations that's one of the things we want to be very very careful with but I will go ahead and talk about it in one-on ones I would appreciate that thank you that was one thing the unsubscribe list I had absolutely no idea what that meant I've had absolutely no idea what that meant so I was glad that you brought that up the Estero Mustangs the entire South part of this County will be hurting for football players if we can't find a solution for them I mean like every kid that plays football in in that part of the county goes through the astero Mustangs it's a wonderful program I didn't really understand what his problem is but I'm I'm happy that you're going to be working with them and finally Lucas Patriots Celtics
Red Sox Bruins any of them would be great I don't have any poll but I'll listen to you listening to you for the past four years has been a blast on that football field you put your heart and soul into it and you sound like a professional at the age of 17 18 when you were 14 you sounded like a professional as well you're an amazing kid and what I wrote here Miss Morgan is Lucas comes with a problem and a solution which is very rare for us sitting here we rarely get a solution especially a reasonable actionable one and the last thing I want to say to you Lucas is as a parent we look at our kids' friends and we are either comforted by who they are or we are scared to death
by who they are and you being my son's friend has brought me great comfort since you were in the first grade so there is there's just There's No Limit to Your Potential and I wish you the best of luck thank you Miss jelli and I'll just piggy back off you everybody said a lot of everything that we talked about earlier so I'll just piggy back off of you look us good luck and your and your next journey and it was a wonderful having you here today tonight and I appreciate I love that Miss Morgan pointed out the problem that you mentioned a problem and with the solution she's absolutely you're correct and we need more of that in this world today what people love to complain but they have no Solutions and so I respect
that you gave us a solution so thank you for that and I'm going to be real quick as well tomorrow is actually administrative administrative professional day and I just want to thank LTE Roman that helps us every day helps me often and I wouldn't be able to get here without you sometimes and as well as Lata Thomas who's not here I really appreciate both of what you do in our office because you keep us running to many places so thank you for that and I will leave it there thank you thank you Miss juven Elli so great job Lucas great like as everyone said I'm going to Echo for going over and bringing forward Solutions and I'm going to ask as everyone always do with every other student don't worry about the New England teams
they don't count come back here to Lee County we have you know somebody we have a great in-house announcer for ever blades that at one point I'm sure is going to retire so come for that spring training so the so great job great job Franklin Park this before this meeting the chorus that was amazing as well I definitely appreciate one of the songs in there more than others so Golden Apple congratulations that was an amazing event just hearing those stories just it's each time as I said I mean I'm I'm so thankful what our teachers do for our students I believe that is all I have right now so I'm going to ask attorney Bruno if she has anything thank you so Lucas normally I always like to say I can't wait to see what
happens or I know you're going to do great things and I'll be able to watch it but for you I'm going to be listening for sure somewhere somehow I'm going to recognize that voice and I will remember that I knew him way back when when he was in high school so good luck and I'm looking forward to what this great future has in store for you okay and I want to just jump in as well and just thank the administrative assistants who really do a lot of work for us because it's the work that we do is huge but without them we really could not do everything that we do so thank you to the board secretaries to the administrative assistant in the superintendent's office and of course the legal administrative assistance so thank you
very much Dr Savage yes chairman I gave my comments earlier during the workshop but just to make sure I respond to the board member questions one question was about the unsubscribe list we can certainly have someone look into that and see if we can come to understanding of what exactly the issue was I made note of it so will take care of that as well as you did capture the Estero Mustang piece just to get clarity of exactly where in the partnership that is and then just want to reiterate one more time you know administrative professional days and it's not just here at the central office in all of our schools the school could not run without them so just again thanks that's all thank you Dr Savage next scheduled meeting will be Tuesday May
