It brings me great honor to present the awards tonight for our scripts spelling bee champions. Every year, students from all walks of life had the opportunity to participate in the scripts national spelling be program. The National Spelling Day began in
0061925 when nine newspapers joined together to host a spelling be at their schools. Little did they know that almost a century later, their literacy efforts would reach millions of students each year, including here in Waldin. We all know the importance of developing children's spelling and vocabulary comprehension skills, but this competition has also proven to increase competence, communication abilities, and all the skills that are necessary for our students in the real world. This year, all five elementary schools, Clinics, Brookside, Plaza, Steel, and Meadow, along with Cland Middle School, first took part in a classroom round where each student had to spell various words in front of their class, which sounds easy, but it's not. Two winners from each school went on to represent their class in the school level spelling week. It took a lot of
007hard work, resilience, and bravery to get up on stage in front of their peers and put their spelling skills to the true test. Tonight, it brings me great pleasure to recognize our school level champions and award them for their great success. So, our first student I would like to recognize is Aisha Aken Bodi from Brookside. And at the end of the ceremony, all students will receive their certificates in the commons area. Come on up, Alan Alexandre from Lennox. Congratulations. our very own Helena Williams. a medal alumni but middle school winner Genesis Aliveres Martin from Plaza and Esbar Nazair from Steel. Congratulations. And now we would like to recognize and welcome our meadow future problem solvers, Dr. Emily Clark and Miss Priya Doas, the coordinators also at Meadow School. And the certificates will be in the
008back at the end of the ceremony. Congrats guys if you guys today. We recognize the achievements of our students who have gone above and beyond. Their project this year will be especially meaningful as they focus on spreading cultural awareness throughout their school community. Through their dedication and fieldwork, they earn first place in their division. It is with great pride that I draw the following students. Let me hear your name. Please come forward. Zan Wars Liam Sing Kushiari Stoans Carrie Hans Charlotte Friedman Sophia Singon Sarah Bia Maxwell Reichart and Harvey Sherman. You want my gloves? >> She was so nervous that she had on the the wings. I am so proud of our students for their hard work, creativity, and dedication as global problem solvers through exploring bigger challenges and developing thoughtful solutions. They demonstrated teamwork,
009innovation, and a commitment to making the world a better place. Our team came in first place at the New York State poll for their presentation of action plan. I walked in to find the entire room covered in blue and gold decorations, my stuff everywhere, and wrapped in blue and gold wrapping paper. and honestly look significantly more organized and welcoming than when I was in charge of it. But the best part
023was they wrapped my state and somehow stuck it up high on the wall. Uh which meant I had to climb onto a chair just to get it down. So nothing makes you reflect on your clear choices. Quite like standing on a chair in dress shoes trying to retrieve your own stapler from the wall of your office. Uh they did leave me a note though that said, "Please don't expel us. Uh don't worry, David. you're graduating so your timing was excellent. Good evening and congratulations to all the recipients here tonight. The girls basketball team once again had an amazing season. Every year is a different season and poses different challenges. This last season, so many people counted on this team. On paper, there were a lot of questions that had to be answered. Last year's team won the New York State Championship. We graduated six seniors who all went on to play college basketball, and we lost four out of our
049five starters. Those communities would have been doomed the following year, but not Baldwin. last year, exactly this time, the preseason rankings and all the high school social media pages had public schools ranked over Maryland, specifically SASA and Red Whitman. The girls took that personal. The girls went on to have an incredible off season that started last April, two weeks after the season ended. Fast forward to the 2025 2026. The squad went on to win the conference championship, the Nassau County Championship, and the eighth Long Island Championship in program history. And by the way, they got to play SASA in the semifinals and they won that game by 33 points. We then got matched up against Whitman, the preseason number one team from Suffach County, and beat them by 10 in the Long Island Championship. Eventually,
050the season came to an end against eventual state champ private school, Albertus Magnus. I'm biased, but I think we were the best public school in the state again this year. >> I couldn't be prouder of this team. Our slogan this year was to protect the tradition. And not only did they protect the tradition, but they actually themselves amongst the best Ladyborn teams to ever walk the hallways. Congratulations, girls. You made all of us so proud. Congratulations to Miss Luke in my 26 years. This is one of the most specialist groups I ever coached. In September, we face some adversity. We lost our starting seven preseason in October. We lost our starting third man and horizon preseason national player of the year. In January, we lost our six man to an MCL. Despite all that, this team is unbelievable. We won a conference championship for the 18th year. won the Nasser Academy Championship for the 11th year in six straight. At one point in the season, this team won 16 straight victories. They finished 21
052and three. They finished number 15 in the state. I couldn't be proud of this group. None of us, all those players, people took them for granted. They're in. But these kids show that they wanted to be our next group. Congratulations. Oops. Congratulations. >> Now, I'd like to introduce the girls bowling team who are conference champions this year.
