foreign today call the meeting to order we all rise for the same pledge I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all right first off um at this time I want to honor we just had a reception um celebrating our retirees that have dedicated how many years 247 and a half 147 and a half years of service to Batavia City School District um so I'd like to read off their names and uh thank them for everything that they've done for our kids and our district um Suzanne Buckley Frank Ferry Amy Hathaway Suzanne Lang Paul Miller Eileen agaveen Evelyn Oliver Jane Palladino Nick Pelton Kristen Prospero Suzanne richenberg and Brenda shefflin um My head

goes off to all of them for all the years that they put in here it's fantastic so thank you very much for all that um public to be heard I believe we do not have any at this time um so next up it's still me I get to say some good news um first off from the high school Tracy Grover a shout out to Janet Steves for her collaboration with the operation graduation process over the last couple of years she has been very helpful and supportive to our students from Jensen primary and Robert Morris satellite Marine Notaro Lindsey Daly has worked well with our young students by bringing over her MBK students to be book buddies with our Jackson students she has arranged a meaningful interaction and their students truly enjoyed seeing their MV book

Buddies thank you Lindsay for making a difference and then from the district facilitator group at the high school his therapeutic skills are top-notch each week I am so impressed with his skills and how he connects with students he is amazing and then uh one other thing uh from Mr Eric Knapp I'll read it basically how he wrote it to us good morning from good afternoon um Gavin Fowler a current VHS senior and former JK student completed the final day of his work study here at JFK yesterday Gavin did a great job with us thank you Mrs McCarthy Mr maniacci and Mr clipple for being part of his JK work study team I would like to send a special thank you to Gavin's aide Mrs Volpe who did an amazing job with Gavin on those work

study days pray to Gavin leaving yesterday Mrs Pearl Mrs Knapp and Mrs Jensen's kids May Gavin thank you parents and gave him a sweatshirt and a box of Chip Away cookies the box of Chips Ahoy cookies will be needed because Gavin has been hired to work for the buildings and grounds and will be at JK working this summer he will need the energy to make sure the rooms are already in September for the kids congratulations to gammon's family and all who have been part of Gavin's educational and athletic Journey P.S did someone from the high school who is out of this message please share this with the appropriate High School staff that's fantastic so thank you very much for that um next up presentation time we have our school resource officers Officer borsha Porsche and

Officer Stevens take it away folks all right it worked for the TV office Department it'll be five years coming up in August um so not as many years as some people but we're getting there and I've worked to be four years coming up in August this is my first year as the SRO and this is currently finishing up my second year I just wanted to start off our presentation um with giving the pretty much the overall definition of what a school resource officer is and what we're kind of here for uh we're carefully selected specifically trained and properly equipped Law Enforcement Officers with sworn Authority training school-based law enforcement and crisis response and assigned by an employee law enforcement agency to work collaboratively with one or more schools using a community oriented policing concept so

essentially with a lot of the questions we get from people are you know what so what do you do are you just like school security and I always tell them we are exactly a road cop and we're just placed in the school we do everything we would do on the road and more we get to build relationships with students we get to kind of act as counselors in certain situations and I actually think we'll get to that later every year per agreement with the schools we go to a training from the state state of New York police juvenile Officers Association um so we are members of this and basically they just help us stay up to date on juvenile laws that change or any other information that we should need to know so the roles

of an SRO who are many different hats as you all may know but typically the goals of a well-funded SRO program include providing safe learning environments in our Nation schools providing valuable resources School staff members fostering positive relationships with you you developing strategies to resolve problems affecting Youth and protecting all students so they can reach their fullest potentials this is right off of a national school resource officer website and then down here the best practices the Triad concept so the school resource officers are Educators informal counselors and mentors and law enforcement officers and we did include a link down at the bottom if anybody does want to check out any other resources that they have um so we just added in some events that we participated in this year uh we go to open houses

we go to uh every October around all the time we do the careers in candy at Jackson and JK uh we are truly grateful for the partnership with bcsd for our shop weather cop program because normally uh Julie wazelewski is actually the one who helps us find all the students that we uh that get to participate in the program with us um the Polar Plunge we the police department officially has created their own team this year so we're excited to be part of that we go to family reading nights we help deliver food at the Thanksgiving food drives we do bike Raffles normally the bikes are donated from our police Union we 've been a part of the golisanos hospital toy drive Community Night Out is always a huge partnership from bcsd I'm sure some

of you have probably been in the dunk tank before were you in the dunk tank last year um and then we also just had a line club's Lions Club day of caring where they asked for our assistance in helping students receiving bikes that they actually um fixed up themselves but we just like to put this at the bottom because we're always looking for ways to connect with students you know we're definitely looking for more opportunities to get in the classroom like anything that so the kids know our names and we know their names is truly Hospital so just for some extracurricular events uh sporting events Maya and I have done numerous I mean I think all the sporting events that uh Potato City Schools offer football soccer volleyball wrestling basketball hockey lacrosse like football baseball

softball team track and field uh we're at all the school dances definitely at the highest goal I think you've done some of those cool ones right um Sports Banquets school plays and musicals the mesopotavia competition and graduations and I didn't put this on there originally but also moving up ceremonies not just graduation itself I just came um we just put up some examples of different things that we've done in the school year you know some of this is police jargon it's what we would consider a call um you know dealing with we do a lot of community policing assist citizens can call from anything to doing like lockouts for somebody in the parking lot to having assisting somebody with a personal problem um but basically we have a large range of different types of things

we handle like I said pretty much anything that we would handle out of the road if it involves the school in any way you know it just creates a partnership where now if students get into an altercation outside of school they are now coming into school and a lot of the times those problems come with them so it kind of gives the school another resource we get to be that liaison where they can say hey we heard so and so was involved in an incident you know is there anything we should be on the lookout for and then I can either go back and either I'm getting an email from one of my um co-workers or I'm going back and looking at the call log and reading the call and being able to say okay

this is kind of what we should expect from this student didn't realize what slide this was I'm gonna take over this slide again because talking about the benefits of having a second SRO I was here last year by myself and truly grateful for having a second person this year because it is a lot more work than even I thought it would be um just some examples of things that I've had this year we just have more coverage four schools last year was a lot for me even if you know between all of the events that we talked about and then just building the relationships it's kind of impossible to build a relationship with 2100 students at a time um so adding a fifth school to that on top of it you know I think currently

right now so I handle officer working handles the high school and JK I handle the Middle School Jackson and Robert Morris um and in each of those school buildings we now because we have more coverage we have more time dedicated to each individual School building so we know the school feelings better um I can still tell you sometimes I have a hard time finding my way around the middle school because I forget which room I'm going to um but basically you just have you you know more staff I probably doubled the amount of people that I actually know their name and faces this year um and just a more feasible workload I think last year between the high school and middle school you know one of the first questions I think I got asked um

was like how often do you get to the younger schools and honestly my answer was whenever I can um it's easier now to build relationship with the school Community we have a lot more positive interactions with staff and students which is really the goal and that's really what we're looking for um you know I've had so many more people come up to me this year now that they're used to seeing my face and just saying like oh my God I'm so glad you're here today and and then when they get to see both of us and we're both walking around the football games and we're both handling prom you know I had multiple parents come up to us at the end the other night while we were at prom and say like I'm so thankful

that you guys are going to be here all night because it's just in this era it's just it's an easier solution to have kind of help right on hand so goals for the 2023-2024 SRO program um like Oscar Steve was saying increased classroom lessons just kind of being around the students more so they to know us better at least you know them better um the Dare program I am not dare certified but Oscar Stevens is um yeah I love you guys uh it's a standard response protocol to any situation any emergency situation in and around the school and then to continue to enhance proactive communication uh between the school district the police department and the community I think we already have to do a good job at communicating with everyone but just to you know

enhance that and make it more positive um so down here we just wanted to mention the Genesee County threat assessment management team tan for short it is a threat assessment team ran by the county and has players from every law enforcement agency James County Mental Health probation pretty much anyone you would think about being in I guess a public service in Genesee County is on that that board businesses also yep um and that board is you know if you have someone that you may be concerned about whether it's uh making statements or just the way they're acting you can bring their name to us the board and then we can make a threat assessment Case by case basis and that everyone might go to the board but it's a case-by-case basis right and the reason

why we mention it um it's just because our Department's going to be really heavily involved with it but a lot of the calls Monroe County actually started it it was a law that was put into place by Governor Hogle saying that every County in New York state had to have some sort of a threat assessment management team so pretty much if we find any you know any situations we go into this meeting we don't give any information about the person whoever's bringing the situation is pretty much speaking all facts and you bring it forward to the board and they talk about you know positives negatives maybe there's a way that this person is is leading and it's not limited to children but a lot of the complaints that do come in are from schools around

Genesee County so we pretty much would just go over look at the whole situation give all the facts and then see if there's any other uh things we can put in place to help redirect them or other supports you know maybe we know that they really it's a student at the high school who really gets along with this certain teacher well maybe we can have this teacher check in with them once a week just to you know see where their mindset's at so it's just kind of another level um that we have or that in place a resource that really we have and we just added some pictures we're not always the best at remembering anything pictures so we borrowed them okay that's the bike that was from our press conference beginning of the year

Shop with a cop and Fuller Plunge any questions much better you know it's been a very good year I mean you know especially this time of year everybody's ready for summer but I mean overall it's been a great year I mean I'm having a second one I mean I pretty much gave all the examples but I can't say enough how much it's helped having a second one because it's there's now well no way we could do it with one person specifically you know I talked to a lot of the other sros from around the county and you know they have less schools than we do and less people and there's certain opportunities I think that I have more so than they have because of like the closeness of all of our schools but it's just

a benefit and I can speak just having two like work in the road we have multiple officers working at one so you can bounce ideas off each other so now there's two of us in the school it's easier us to bounce the ideas off each other and help a good team yeah and that's a huge partnership too because you know the two of us even though we might not be in a school directly we're kind of constantly keeping track of what the other person is doing because if he's not here one day I'm here and we might have another officer coming off the road just to kind of help be an extra person for the day but they don't know the kids the way we do they don't know the situation like we do so

if we're keeping in contact and staying on top of things it just kind of helps us over twice a year we've been gathering with Connor and Maya and our admin team and the pvds two high Bush and Deputy Felix detector Sergeant Moody yeah you know we meet twice a year kind of talk about well we have to set some goals for the following year that needles coming up in a few weeks the poor person Israel and myself our two sros and represent ative resources with the required conversation open all the time anybody else well I just want to say thank you very much for doing a great job for us thank you thanks so I'm nuts but I can speak to what they do I work with them on a daily basis having two of

them this year has made so much of a difference we have so many events going on multiple sometimes five or six home things at a time and they've done a good job moving around being places that we view them tough situations they show up so it's been very very good yeah fantastic thank you thank you next stop pcsd Athletics update from A.D Mr Mike Brown all right so my biggest problem is going to be what am I doing here there we go okay so I just want to give you a little um update of what we've done athletic wise this year we've had a very very good year this is my 24th year our record I think was six sectional titles in a year and we got five so we were really really close um

and we did get a bunch of seconds if you remember you know in boys basketball and track we lost the last race and then just in Flight football the other night I have a slide up here I was hoping I was going to change it to sectional Champs but they end up facing a very very good team and the team that beat us beat the the A's the next day um 18 to nothing so we didn't lose to a bad team we had a great season so this is the first team that were sectional Champions we're our football team and obviously we went to the state semifinals and then our track program is just one of the best in the state no doubt about it our girls want to endure our boys want indoor our

girls went outdoor and our our softball team second time since I've been here had an unbelievable run towards the end played very very well and they got they won a sexual title as well so it was very heartwarming to see what they did they did a great job and then this was our first flag football team there were 7-0 in the regular season and then they they um you know played a sectional game and they won and then we got beat in the finals so they're young the team that we played a lot of seniors so I imagine this is going to come back that they're going to be pretty strong and I imagine you're probably gonna get can we have a JV team that's what's going to go next because we had 24 kids

in the team you play seven at a time so we really did have enough but I imagine now that the eighth graders there are going to be 9th graders saw what happened you're gonna have can we have a jvt so nobody in the section has that right now but the talk across the section is you know watch do we have 50 kids got to have a JV team so that's what we're going to be looking at in the future um individual successes we sent 23 kids to States and track um our bills probably going to be pretty high but Mr rozanski has Deep Pockets so he'll take care of us um so um if you remember we had a wrestler do very well so a lot of our individual sports did very well um and

I don't have them out there individually so this is what we offer and you can see that we keep growing um we have all of these programs we have one unified team and we have roughly 84 coaches that we try to hire each year always a challenge to hire coaches um probably 50 percent are not teachers so you can imagine trying to work those in trying to get them going um but we right now I think we're in a good shape I think most of our coaches are doing a great job and we'll keep trying to get better so that that's my goal is to get better hire good people and and support them so that we have good teams so I always show this I showed this forever I got this years ago in

Saratoga so we have 52 of our kids play at least one sport many of them play multiple Sports how much'd you play this year yeah and that that's a School record in itself right so we have kids doing a lot of different things and I always get this number from Mr rosanski we have that many kids doing that and it's only 1.23 of our budget so you're getting a lot of bang for the money that you put into it uh this is the one 52 of our students participated many multiple um we've been anywhere between 39 when I started up to 57 and we're at 52 right now so we're pretty much between 52 and 57 most of the time and many of our athletes have taken advantage of Dual Sport um I think we

had 19 or 20 this spring to dual Sports so you know that brings its challenges but we just work through them and try to give kids opportunities um a couple things I don't need that I shouldn't have put that up there we did survive covet um I think we got better and started doing things better and one of the things I just wanted to talk about and reason that's there is our huddle TV channel like you can watch almost all of our sporting stuff and we never did any of that until code came so you can watch anything that happens in our high school gym you can watch anything that happens at our Stadium on huddle TV and it's our own channel now the other piece of that's going to be is in the spring

we're all going to be one of the prototypes for softball baseball so we're going to get the equipment and we're going to be able to try to do that for next spring we also thought that maybe we could take that to hockey currently we're paying somebody else to do the hockey but we might be able to get there at some point so more more opportunities in the future mergers incomplete teams um I know this is something that I was asked about a couple years ago so I just updated that girls gymnastics has pretty much stayed the same JV and varsity ice hockey right now we have three schools in the last two years we've dropped off Leroy and um Alexander we have a senior next year at Alba and a junior from Oakfield and two

years from now we'll just say um Batavia and Notre Dame one of the good things that's going to happen out of that is we are now a b-school so next year we'll get to playing b-sectionals because we lost a couple of the other schools so that should help us the only bad part about is Victor moved down as well so good the bad right um boys and girls swimming we can combined with Notre Dame if you follow them we've had so much success at the swim at swimming it was a great move for us to do that wrestling we combined with Attica we're one of the top teams every year and Lacrosse we had more Notre Dame kids this year than we've had in the past so just a little bit about lacrosse is our

mate program was the most competitive it's been in many many years um we really have to keep building at that level because we have that group of Youth Lacrosse kids I think there's about 100 of them that you know Joe Hustler's running a program for I think they're only going to get better so we need to really focus that lower level to make sure we're getting good experiences this is ERS sorry we are a school of excellence which means 75 of our teams are scholar athlete teams to be a school of Distinction you have to have a hundred percent we were pretty close we were 26 out of 28 teams our averages in the fall were 94.84 winner 9361 and 94.59 in the spring the two teams we didn't have make it had an average

of pretty much 85. so I think our kids are doing a good job both in the classroom you know we're trying to make them be responsible citizens and you know obviously doing well athletically so that's that's the three things that we're trying to get so we're pretty close in the spring we had 100 which is pretty cool all right Dipper so I Emily helped me do some things and I put a lot of stuff out there I never had anything other than a Twitter account now we do Facebook Instagram and Twitter and there's a way that you know just push a button using Gipper it sends stuff out and it looks professional so I told you about that last year I think that's been good um with the expansion of everything we've done for the

support of the board looking forward to the Athletics program assistant that can help with some evenings weekends and some of the other duties to try to learn a little bit of the job so I think that's going to be a great move and that Jason wanted me to bring this up that's a sportsmanship initiative can't read it I'm just going to quickly go over what it is so for many many years if you were a coach or an athlete and you were thrown out of a contest you had to sit the next contest mandatory and you'd meet with the athletic director we put a plan together and if it happened again it would be two contests and hopefully we don't reach that very often well they're doing something like that for parents next year I

don't know what that's going to look like I'm only going to tell you that we have a lot of work to do so I'll be working with other athletic directors I'll be working with Section Five in New York state to make sure that we are in line with what other people are doing and one of the things is when they go back they may have to come back and take a class on the national Federation of high schools and one of the classes is about being a spectator um there's there's some other ones as well it doesn't listen enough but there's a couple classes that we could say first of all you can't come back until you've taken that class and you've met with somebody to talk about what happened so I'm not sure what

that's going to look like um probably going to be fun but um but we're going to put that in place and hopefully we get some support from the state with more ideas of how that's going to work and this piece is let me see if I can do that okay I like to always just show you this to remind you how to get information so if I go here and I go to Athletics this has everything that you possibly can need um this is our if you click there it shows every practice everything with a gym or so many things being used so we always have that there um you click on this it shows all of our contests where the numbers are you can get to our touch wall you can get your huddle

TV station and all other information around the left side so um I can take you to our touch wall and I've showed you that before this is outside the gymnasium and this also can be done this is a good view of it but it lists our day's activities photos we have our Hall of Fame in there we have all of that stuff in that in the computer so everybody can have access to it from a computer or from the wall outside the gym it's neat seeing kids go to lunch and looking back and they're seeing somebody from them you see it right yeah yeah so we're doing a good job with that um there you go it finally popped up so that's what I have for a presentation does anybody have any questions yes I

can't tell you how have told me they wish they had flag football when we were in high school yeah I'm sure it is really fun to watch my stepdaughter is going to play next year she can't wait like it's one of those things that I think is going to really go I would have to say our girls programs have really come on strong they're doing they're doing a nice job Julia we're we're getting better in certain places we have to improve but we're doing pretty pretty well increase the number of sports that are uh be because I I can't last forever and the next person is going to need help as well all right so that's it's a good move by this board to be able to to look into the future to say that

and you know I've lived here right so yeah good thing my wife loves sports because she's had everything with me um but because that's what people ask me the athletic director here and I look around and I'd say yeah he's here but do you realize there's probably six other events he could be at and sometimes I'm doing the clock because it's tough finding workers so every fly football game myself in the booth so nobody really saw me but I was trying to do some of those things to make it happen well I appreciate your effort thanks I appreciate you acknowledging that just a quick question yeah you've got a fall Sports they're gonna start yep very quick whatever you think the 20 the football the 19th and everybody else in the 21st modified on 28.

just put that together today yep um looking good coach wise and everything I mean I know you said because sometimes you struggle with yep I've got I've got probably four positions to fill almost 30. yeah I've got four to film so that's one of the deadlines was today to get information in so I have to look through that and interview and do those things yep we're okay you know sometimes it's they got to know people to ask them to coach because you know it's one of those things that's tough It's 3 30. that's tough for somebody that's not a teacher right or even if you're a teacher and live in Buffalo or Rochester that's tough so thank you all right next presentation is strategic Plan update Dr Molly Corey take away that of course I

don't know where the clicker went yeah all right go grab him I got it just hit it all right so doing is a really good month to reflect on what's happened in the year it's fresh in our mind and we just finished the first year of our strategic plan and it's exciting to come to you and share some of the highlights from what's been happening our mindset really is on continuous School Improvement improving systems and it's slow and steady it's not any silver bullets it's going to change things it's working together in the full court goal areas to show that the first goal area is about safe and orderly School environments that really looks and sounds very different in each School environment and it's important for schools to take on what they want to do

in their school so the what we do is we use the SEL teams to really help bring that to life and we have some highlights from all of the schools with that though we've broadened our definition on what safety means within the schools and there's many entry points within the plan that schools could choose from so while the SEL is important from day to day basis we want to keep people growing and learning and this year we had some professional development related to diversity equity and inclusion we have the Lavelle Brown series we had an expert come in and talk about etiquette bloopers for the lb lgbtq plus environment and the emoja club honestly it was an entry point where kids gave us some ideas of what was important to them here at the high

school some highlights and accomplishments can be seen in all the things that happen on a daily basis the um Jackson and John Kennedy had a special event each this year on the SEL family nights it was very well received families learned about the circle process and how we use that with kids to really engage in conversations and we'd like to bring that to a wider audience that's shared as a highlight but certainly all schools have things going on hearing the student voice to help broaden that definition has helped at the middle school and the high school we use survey information and we want to just keep building on the strengths Chris Murrell is the director of the school of violence and extended day school programming soar program she's working with the SEL teams to do

survey information across stakeholder groups and they're using that to help with their summer planning uh we have monthly survey from our Baseline that's telling us that we are trending in the right direction if you look closely at the numbers you can see that in nearly every category we have more strongly agree and agrees than we did in our Baseline information we'll continue to add ask these questions across the stakeholder groups and we actually break it down by building so each school can use the information to help guide their planning and our next steps for next year some things that we're considering we want to find ways to report more on the sdl those competencies are so important are the kids doing what they should be doing so they can get to the academics so they

have asked if we could have a report card committee that would look at ways to infuse that into our report card systems and also broaden that to parents we want to just keep that school to Home Connection going so that the language is consistent in both places and helps people really achieve and attain their best goal area two is the collaborative culture the shared decision-making teams had all of this stuff come to life they really helped with that we're working at communicating with all other stakeholder groups and you heard a little bit about parent Square that's going to be the communication tool that we hope really helps so that we're really streamlining all processes of communication from every team at the schools on out e-school through their plans they wrote goals this year moose had

about one or two goals I'll connect those into the academics it's important that they stick to what's going on and what we found is most teams when they realized that they could do more they wanted to add on to their plans mid-year so as we meet in the summer I think they'll reflect on how they can broaden what they were doing in all four areas clear and accessible curriculum we dedicated the May 12th professional learning day to really anchoring in on where we're at every grade level or Department met and talked about their grade level expectations and updated that document they have what we call a year at a glance that Paces out what we they would like to be doing and what we'd like them to be doing and then they also did an

audit of some resources we started with 7 12. we are pretty um well underway with everything that is happening in k6 but we wanted to know from 712 who's ready for a new textbook adoption process and then they ultimately submitted proposals for some curricular work we have things happening in every school and it's exciting that we will we uh we're going to be working on everything that we do in the summer and um with the instructional leadership team to document what we have it's going to be an internal web page that lists by content where curriculum is and then by school so that each grade level will have a page this is just the start to what it will look like um we've had a lot of turnover in the last few years new teachers

coming in every school is hired some have new programs like the preschool program at Robert Morris and then other schools just you know we it's just the nature of the Beast right now in education the new hires when they come in they'll hear from their team leader in their principal where things are at and then they'll meet some colleagues so the reality is we're trying to put all of the resources into one place so if you teach kindergarten we want you to be able to go here for this infernal page kind of get to all the nuts and bolts of kindergarten it's going to be cross-referenced not only with the grade level but also with content so that we can continue in the plan with the vertical alignment it's exciting to think about everything being

here it's going to take us a little bit to get it going but the shell is here we've never had anything like this and then we just think it'll grow over time and really be a valuable resource not only for new teachers but for each school team as well back to my presentation our survey data here again tells us that we're trending in the right direction are feeling like we're moving in the right way with the resources that we're using and how it's documented and then we'll continue to populate on the website and what anchors Us in with that curriculum is the instructional Focus the last goal area is effective teaching in every classroom and the research tells us that the number one factor that impacts everything that we do is the skill set of

that teacher so we want to always be working on anchoring and to make sure that they're as strong as they can be this year we had a book study anchoring in on the effective elements for teaching Mike schmoker is the expert in Guru we did a lot of professional development with teams grade level teams faculty meetings in different places so that you know they were reminded of the important elements that we want to see in every lesson plan from there it really sparked a lot of conversation of what else can we do circling back to our goals they can all grow a goal from that was based on my Smoker's work a lot of it was getting ensuring the kids had time to read in the classroom every day we're doing well and we're excited

about the data that will be coming out from this year all right again we're going back to that monthly survey data to see what else what do we need to do to improve and the teams from the shared decision making teams and the instructional leadership team met and they talked about adding on to the smoker work by really focusing in on key strategies that you could use within that template in each school has ideas of what they want to do we're allowing them to really start where they know their staff is at where they want to go with it and ultimately they'll turn that into a plan this summer when they meet together the PLC work that we're doing will also enhance everything that's happening and improve the conversations to ensure that things are truly

becoming actionable in every classroom so that we can really be excited to know that we have the highest quality teacher in every single classroom questions might you have how how did you find the absentee did it improve this year so every school really did have a goal with absenteeism and I think each kingdom is a little bit different it didn't change as much as we had hoped in some cases covid still was a factor this year for one and I think that when you think about how parents their comfort level at different times in the winter with that you know it's hard to know what exactly happened with that ever I think it's improving in some places but we still have some work to do in others well I just remember um the middle school

had the um goal of each of the teachers making a contact yep and and you know how successful was that well and I would say every school has gone out of their way to do something having social workers in the schools is really helping so they're connecting with families in different ways one we want to uncover what's happening with why kids aren't coming but also provide supports that might be needed to help get them here we know that if kids have a trusted adult that really matters when they come into the school and we've really tried hard to make sure that we know who that trusted adult is there's good systems in place in every school for that we really track and are doing all that we can the one thing that on the social

workers an idea that they came up with that they want to make happen is to have some positive interactions during the summer so they've scheduled to have home visits we have about 100 people coming together on July 31st and they're going to work in team to go out and visit homes they're working on the lists every school have visits there's teachers there's administrators and we have our our neediest families kind of targeted with who who do we know needs a visit we bought some things just to make it exciting if the little pull string drag backpacks with bar um water bottles for each school so that we could take something personal just to try to start with that positive connection so that when things break down we call the family to say hey what's going

on they're willing to work with us there's a lot of research to support that that will help think over time we're going to have to keep watching seeing what we can do I mean some of the high schoolers I think they have the hardest time coming back from Colvin because quite honestly although they wanted to be here they liked the freedom I'm sure not being here every single day I think it's going to be challenging to see what can we do to add to from covid what we learned that kids want and find ways to be respectful with balancing coming back to normal but and we're constantly reading about um how covet has affected our students in all of the schools and I'm sure they're at the times of standardized testing and and how do

you and then there's always the comment about all the federal money that was given you know to improve the education in schools after covid how do you think that's working um so we're very fortunate here we have a lot of opportunities for the kids in the summer and we're using that as a time to Anchor them in our numbers are looking quite healthy in terms of who is committing to being here in the summer we have some preliminary instructional reports that we're allowed to use to help make decisions that you will hear more about it it shows us we're trying to get in a positive direction okay okay good to hear very good thank you very much all right next up it's uh report time and uh first on the agenda is um thank you

just do a show or tell um this week receive verification from Utica National and we are going to qualify for the school safety upsis award uh we're at the titanium with Amazon which I believe in the highest level you can handle everything Scott for his team our best press release that's going to be our short date as well as a fact that we've seen as well I think Scott and his team are forgetting that doctor you know you know someone we should say that the process is practices want to recognize that and that you have to speak in the newspaper uh what I want you to thank our retirees for the 247 digit service for our schools for our students a special thank you for our four principals Brittany and Trisha as well for making

this event and hoping this new tradition possible to move forward you heard my talk about track so I mentioned a couple things about our Athletics we did have 23 students qualify for the New York state championship which is the largest amount we have we have 17 composed with medals and eight top ten finishes from track so that was a very well done I'm sure you heard American Girl might mentioned girls softball also winning section five it is an academic the last day of school for High School is tomorrow the biggest exams begin Wednesday we had the prom this past weekend I was scarred Facebook there's a lot to great pictures of the kids all dressed up as a as a very very nice event uh this is a ceremony season we had an eighth grade

year David University David for physical therapy okay speaking of um the girls track team one sectionals go Devils as well as the softball team so that was really exciting especially for the softball team going three consecutive years to the sectional final and finally coming home with that trophy I know they're super excited about that and they all deserved it they have been working so hard since most of them have been on the varsity team since eighth grade freshman year so they've really come together and rally together to earn that we had our award ceremony recently here at the high school where there were 80 plus awards given out Awards and scholarships to our BHS students so everybody is very well deserving of that and I'm so proud of all of them our flight football team

as everybody has now spoken about did very well they reacted very well to the season like interacting with each other because it is such a wide demographic of girls on that team coming from Cheer soccer softball whatever it may be because it is new they're all just kind of testing the water trying it out they all responded very well to each other working as a team coming together as well as the coaching staff like I know several of them have now they're a little nervous to coach Boo at first they were like I don't really know what to expect but now they all love him they rally around him and it's just great to see that growth that they've had throughout the season how did it work with um flag football being let's say a

second sport if you went you had your primary Sport and then you hit you went how did that work did that work all right yeah a lot of flag football practices were later in the day so many of the athletes could go to their primary and then their secondary or like game days coach boo worked it out and Coach Boone coach fix worked it out so they wouldn't have to be to the field until 5 5 30 so that way they could still make to most of their practice prior and then still be there for the game this is good good um and then I want to talk about prom I know Mr scheiner and Mrs Chua did a great job with prom I know they were very nervous about it from the start we

were all bugging them we want blob we want this we want that we don't want this and we are on their case a little bit about not having it at bandana they weren't sure exactly how it was going to work out because we didn't miss out on that two years of fundraising for covid and where was it held wood Smith Estates okay so they did do a very good job of putting it all together I couldn't have asked her a better senior prom especially after everything that's been going on with Covenant and all lack of funding that stuff but it was a really great job and I am very happy they're able to come together and do something special for us um moving on to track our boards four by one went to States and

they also broke the school record for that so that was really exciting for them they and then the boys 4x4 also went to States they broke the school record in state qualifiers and then they broke the state record again at States I mean they broke their School record again it states so that was Ryan villam Cody harloff Nate Canali and then cam garfolo and then we sent all three of our girls relays to States and we sent individuals Campbell Riley Nate Canali and Sheldon sovereign and I'm pretty sure all three of them metal if not two of the three but either way they all did really good there welcome Peyton you are going to grades very outgoing kid I was in mock trial with him he's a hoot I love him so you're gonna do

great I'm so excited for you and I just wanted to thank you all for having me this year Britney you have been nothing but amazing towards me making sure that I have all my stuff in on time or being generous when I do have to leave early or whatever maybe can't come whatever the circus does this may be and I wanted to thank all of you for welcoming me in and just having open arms because it's scary at first a little bit intimidating but just sitting here learning and knowing that all of you are really here because you want to be here and you want to see us all be successful it really helps me embrace this role it makes me feel a little bit more confident confident and comfortable so thank you all thank
