Hi everybody. >> Um, can I get a motion to go into work session? >> Motion. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> I I so carry. It's always exciting. We're in the back and we hear all chatter and the kids are here. So, we're going to hop right into it. Our first agenda item is the kindness keepers leadership conference um with Mrs. Lentini and Miss Padilla. >> And again, just before they start, we actually were invited um over Mr. Pashkin, Dr. myself were invited over to Mary G a few weeks ago and we just saw some outstanding students doing some amazing things and we said it would be a great thing for the board to see. So, I'm gonna turn it again over now to Miss Padilla and Miss Lentina just to talk about uh

our beekeepers. >> Kindness keepers, excuse me. >> Kindness keepers. Keepers to make yours. Okay. So, good evening and thank you so much for having us. Uh, as you already know, our Mary G. Clarkson second graders have partnered with the fifth grade gardener manner mini marauders to work on building relationships, confidence, and leadership skills. Uh this year our assistant principal, Miss Kaylee Navara, has also introduced the Mary G. Clarkson kindness keepers who are sitting behind me. Uh these are exemplary second grade student leaders who promote positivity and peacekeeping within our school community. This partnership continued this year. The Mini Marauders and the Kindness Keeper held their first leadership conference at Mary G. Clarkson last month. This experience empowered our students to take on leadership roles, build connections across schools, and learn from one another in meaningful

and engaging ways. To begin the presentation and learn more about the leadership conference and the vision behind it, you will hear from the Mini Marauders. And is my great pleasure to introduce the adviser of the Garner Manor, Mini Marauders, Miss Ashley Pate, and Miss Amanda Jackson. Hi, how are you? >> Hi. Um, what? Thank you so much for inviting us. We're really excited to tell you more about what we've been doing. Um, we're glad to be back and hope you enjoyed everything. So, first we just wanted to give you um just like a little recap just like again of who the mini marauders are. You can say hi to them. They're over here. All of them are here. Um, this is a leadership um, ambassador program that Mrs. Paid and I started at Gardenner Matter,

Gardner Manor. And it was a way for students to have a voice in our building, a way for them to be a part of Gardener Manor, not just be scholars, but help make decisions, help um, encourage inclusivity. It help encourage kindness and they're being a part of it. not just hearing it from adults and not just hearing it from teachers, but hearing it from their peers and telling and showing the other scholars and being role models to other scholars. Um it gives them a voice. It helps um build leadership skills with them. Um and they're role models for the younger students as fifth graders. It's a way to give them a voice and help them grow into leaders. And we do fundraising, we do volunteer work, they're um making cards, making bracelets in the library

helping out. You can see them all over the school if you come into Gardener Manor. Um, they helped run school events recently. They helped out with the book fair. Um, they supported the younger students at dismissal arrival and they helped reinforce expectations at Gardenner Manor. Um, and last year we had went to Mary G. Clarkson as part one as part of one of our volunteering experiences and our many marauders helped out in the STEM lab and volunteered in some of the classrooms. um they helped teachers and supported the students there. And really the idea behind it last year was to build a bridge between the schools. We didn't want students at Gardener Manor to feel like they're just Gardener Manor. We're not just Gardener Manor. We're beayshore. We're all a community. We all connect with

each other. We all help each other out. And this is what it's what being part of Beayshore is. So we wanted them to see that too. So that was one of the reasons why we went to Mary G and letting them know we're part of something bigger than ourselves. And even though you're just in fifth grade, you're just a 10-year-old, like you're not just that. You have a voice. You you can lead. You can help out. You're more than that. And hopefully they'll continue that later on. Like I'll check back with them and hope hopefully they're doing that still. Um so that kind of helped lead what this leadership conference was. Um when we reached out again to Miss Navara to see if we could and Miss Latini to see if we can come to

Mary G, they had brought the idea of the kindness keepers and we thought, "Oh my god, this is perfect. This is another way that our students can show leadership. Another way they can help out, another way that they can they can see that what they're doing like matters. That's right. >> So that's >> Oh, sorry. Okay. >> Sorry, I forgot it was my turn. Okay. So, um the idea behind the conference is to give the students leadership experience. We wanted to um give them confidence mentoring younger students because they do that a little bit at Gardenner Manor, but we wanted to see them do it beyond Gardenner Manor and then give them an opportunity to collaborate and lead as a team because a lot of this conference was really them. They were really the mastermind

behind it all. We just like started the idea and then they took it on from there. >> To piggy back, hi, I'm Ashley. Um, on what Miss Jackson is saying, um, when we sat down with our many marauders, we asked them, "What do you think these second graders need to be leaders, to help Oh, I'm sorry. to be leaders and to um help them solve problems uh independently and to help them feel as though they're part of a community as well. So that was where the idea was born and we collaborated with Miss Navar, Miss Lentini and we created the uh leadership conference and our goal for that day was to um for those kindness keepers to leave with skills that they would then be able to apply in their school. So solving problems respectfully

and responsibly um knowing when to get help from an adult and ways to show kindness and leadership at their recess. So who participated? Um our second grade kindest sorry our um the second grade kindest keepers participated in the conference as our learners. Um while our fifth grade mini marauders took on the role of leaders and facilitators. The kindness keepers rotated through a series of interactive stations that focused on kindness, communication, and problem solving. And at each station, we had many marauders guiding them through guiding them through activities, modeling positive behavior, and helping support these younger students. It was really amazing to watch them take their role and embody it and just really do an amazing job at it. Um the structure of the conference not only gave our second graders some meaningful experiences but it

also empowered our many marauders and to know that they are truly leaders in life in beayhore and to take that beyond. Um to begin to kick off the conference, we started with an icebreaker activity. As you can see, this gave the mini mini marauders and the kindness keepers a chance to get to know one another and in a fun and a relaxed way. And right from that moment, we saw the connections forming. We saw some laughter and a sense of excitement for what the day was going to hold. So um some of the students will talk many marauders will talk more about the stations but these are the four stations that were chosen for the students to go through and these were stations that were built on real life situations that the kindness keepers would

encounter in like during recess during their school day. So one was tattling and of course everything is be themed so uh tattling versus reporting big problems versus small problems kindness and action how to keep recess safe and using a kind and confident voice. So, first up, we'll have um Bennett, and he'll explain what tattling versus reporting was. >> Hi, my name is Bennett and I helped lead the ting risk reporting station. At this station, we taught second graders the difference between ting and Reporting means telling an adult when someone is hurt, unsafe, or needs help. We read different scenar we read different scenarios at the and the students decided if it was ting or reporting by holding up colored cards. It helped them practice making safe and responsible choices. >> Our next station was big

problems versus small problems. And as you can see in the pictures, we didn't do anything. They led everything. >> Hi, my name is Grace Niles and I helped lead the big problems versus small problem station. At this station, we help second graders learn how to tell the difference between problems they can solve on their own and problems they need an adult. Students listened to different situations and decided if the problem was big or small. Our ne next we'll hear from Jacob and he'll talk about using a kind and confident voice. Hi, my name is Jacob and I help lead the kind confident voice station. At this station, students practice how to communicate respectfully using kind words, eye contact, and a calm voice. We gave them different situations and they practice how a leader could respond

in a kind and confident way. Next we have keeping recess safe. I helped lead the kindness and action station. At this station, we taught students how to keep REA safe using the safe strategy. See the problem, act kindly, find help, and everyone matters. Students practice using these steps to decide what they could do in different RESA situations. So next we're gonna hear from Meline who'll talk a little bit about um what she felt like having leader a leadership role during this conference. Hi my name is Meline. During the conference we served as role models for the second graders. We guided the activities, explained different scenarios, and helped the younger students practice how to respond with kindness and leadership. Next, we have Clea to do um leadership and action. Hi, my name is Clea. This experience

gave us the chance to step into our leadership roles in our school. We led activities, explain directions, and help guide the younger students through each station. It was exciting to take on the role of a leader. >> And then we'll have um Bradley, Bethany, Clea, and Kalsta. and they'll talk a little bit about the impact on the students. >> One thing I really liked about the conference was helping the younger students practice these skills. We showed them how to solve problems, include others, and be kind leaders. It was really fun to see them thinking about how they could help others. It felt good. We It felt good knowing we were helping them be kind leaders at recess and in the classroom. Through this conference, we helped lead the second graders learn that they can be

leaders in everyday situations. We show them that how they can solve problems, include others, and show kindness during the school day. Hi, my name is Bethany. We also practice speaking in front of others, working together as a team, and mentoring younger students. This experience helped us build confidence and grow as leaders in our school community. >> So, Mr. Dvar is going to tell you a little bit more about the kindness keepers. Good evening. Thank you so much. Um we're so proud to introduce our second grade kindness keepers. Um so I'm going to talk a little bit about this new initiative that we're bringing to Mary G, but also um where it originated from our be kind project. So our mission, I'll just read the mission straightforward. Um, the Be Kind Project is committed to fostering

a culture of kindness through social emotional learning, empowering our school community to come together for a greater cause. Um, we strive to really promote this inclusivity, um, student leadership and create meaningful connections to support the growth of every student. Um, so if you remember last year, I believe we were here talking about our be kind project. And so that was a school initiative that really um was based on promoting um community, growing community, being kind to each other, being kind to our environment, and really finding opportunities for our school um to thrive with each other and and beyond. And part of that was creating connections beyond uh Mary G. Clarkson. So with Gardenner Manor as well. Um we did, as Miss Jackson and Miss Pete mentioned, we did have the mini marauders in last year

as well. um to again continue a mentorship. So this year with Mrs. Lentini um she really um something important to her was creating opportunities of leadership within our building and so the be kind um project continued and now we're um launching our kindness keepers and Dr. Mr. Maloney, you understood the assignment. They are beekeepers. Um, but yes, our kindness keepers and and their role is really um it's a it's a big job. They um they were nominated by their teachers to um as just leaders in their classroom every day. And you know, they have a big task of of keeping that kindness um echoing throughout our our hallways and our building. So, we wanted to kick this off with we we like to go big at Mary G, Mrs. Lentini, right? So, we wanted to

have a celebration, a ceremony to celebrate the hard work that these students are putting in each and every day. You know, um a lot of the time we celebrate academics. Um but when do we really get to kind of sit students down and tell them that they're good humans? And I think that's so important to us and so important to bring our families on board as well. and for them to know how truly great um their children are and how they've done a phenomenal job raising them. So, um we had a big celebration a we called it a kindnesskeeper leadership conference and so that not only was to highlight our students, give them a certificate, a fancy badge, some of them might have slept in them. We're very excited to wear our fancy badge. And

so, you know, we brought this idea um to the wonderful Mrs. Jackson and Miss Peyton. They are truly phenomenal. Uh we went to them for guidance. We know how great uh the Mini Marauders are. We know how phenomenal the news cruise is and how many great things they're doing at Gardner Manor. And again, we want to build that connection um across Beayshore School District. not keep the great things at Garner Manor, Mary G, but really give them opportunities for that mentorship, that collaboration. So, we went to them and just said, "We have this idea. We want to kind of copy you. We we think you're doing great things." And and just like snap of the fingers, this this leadership conference was born. This ties also to our social emotional learning goals for our building. Um,

we've worked really closely with our brand new social worker, Miss Galindo, who has been doing a phenomenal job at really bringing social emotional learning to the front. Um, we do things like our mindful minute where we start every Monday with a kind of a pause and a reset. And so, we're going to start using our kindness keepers as um a way to incorporate that more in our building and spread awareness. So one of her initiatives that she did was being the eye in kind and what that means. So we have a physical representation but also um we really at that leadership conference talked about what does that mean to be the eye in kind every single day making that choice um and and it's an important one. Okay. So we have our kindness keepers who

received their wonderful certificates and they're ready to go. Um this mentor, the mentorship from the Mini Marauders, um was just truly phenomenal. We have amazing fifth grade leaders. Truly. Um you guys are really talked about throughout our entire district. You're like Beayshore famous. Um so to have you come in and teach our second graders um was truly just a full circle moment. And so the district is so proud of you. You took on this role with just just beautifully. and you were really able to uh make an impact because our second graders, they're ready. They're coming to Garner Manor and they're ready to join. >> Okay. So, I do have some friends who were brave to speak. So, we're gonna have them anxious. We're going to have some all of them come up and some

of them might might want to just share their name and who they are, but we'll we'll start a line. So, Liam, >> you don't want to do this? Huh? >> Ready? Follow me. >> We're going to give you some exercise tonight. >> Hi, I'm Liam. Okay. Okay, let me do that again. Oh, that was embarrassing. That was embarrassing. Hi, I'm Liam. What do I say next? >> The mini marauders taught me how to use kind words. If some someone is hurt and I see the I see the problem. I know how to help them because all about safe. I see the problem. Act kind. Find help and everybody matters. >> Hi, I'm Olivia. My job as a kindness keeper is to be kind and a role model at my school. I help others when they

are feeling sad or hurt. I know if how to decide if it's a big problem or a small problem and to tell the a teacher. Hi, my name is Clara and um the reason why I'm a kindness keeper is I show people how um it's how you you treat people how you want to be treated and kindness keep leads you to a good place. >> Hi, my name is Flynn. Um, the mini marauders taught me that um, work things out on your own but on my own. But to know when to tell an adult and to help others. Hi, my name is Denny and I learned that things can be a big problem and a small problem and sometimes others have big feelings and it's important to listen. Hi, my name is Fley and the

reason why I was supposed to be a kindness keeper because um you're such a >> Cuz I'm such a good friend to everybody. We're going to go. Hi, my name is Leila and the reason I'm a kind the reason I'm a kindness keeper is because I'm a good friend and I help others who need it. Hi, I'm Zara and the reason I'm a kindness keeper is because I spread positive energy in my class. >> We have some extra kindness keepers. um Kian and Julian. So, give a round of applause for our amazing kindness keepers. All right, what's next for our kindness keepers? Okay, so we have some really special things planned for our kindness keepers. Um ways that they can continue to lead in our building. Um morning announcements. Uh we really do we have

an idea where we can share um kind reminders or even kindness challenges each day um whether that's at lunch or recess. Um every Monday we start off with a mindful minute which is typically read by um led by our school psychologists but we're hoping that our kindness keepers will take that on. Um kindness keepers lunch bunch which um Mrs. Lentini came up with this wonderful idea where it will be an opportunity for our kindness keepers to um have a meeting with us and sit down and talk about ideas to strengthen our school community. Um coming right from the source. Um so kind of like a little school government. Um our lunch and recess trophy voting which is positive lunch and recess behavior. So our kindness keepers are keeping a special eye out and promote and

grow the program. So, you know, uh, some students already have noticed our kindness keepers with that fancy badge and have asked, "How do I become a kindness keeper?" And part of their role is to recruit others, right? We're hoping the whole building will be a kindness keeper. So, we're going to keep our eyes out to promote and just grow this message uh moving forward. We're back. Okay. So, for many marauder, this is just the beginning. This is year two. wait until year five. So wait, we have big plans for many marauders. So um we're looking to build and expand the program in many different ways. One of the first ways that we thought of for this year is we're going to hold camp kindness. So a kindness theme, think camp kindness, friendship bracelets, I don't

know, rocks, I don't know. It's still it's still in the works. But what we were going to do is we're going to invite the kindness keepers to come to Gardener Manor since many of them will come next year. And this is a way to get um familiar with our building and see how our building runs. And we'll continue this kindness >> initiative. I don't know, just everywhere. Kindness everywhere. >> And then our many marauders will get to lead again. Another thing is um we're going to the middle school soon. So in May, we're going to be meeting with the middle school sixth grade student council. So our mini marauders can see, okay, so now you're mini marauder at Gardenner Manor. You're leaving Gardner Manor. It doesn't have to end here. It can still continue in

the middle school. So, they'll learn how they can be a leader in the middle school and the different opportunities they have there and learn from the students there. So, we're really excited about that one, too, cuz it's all about like consistency and keeping this up and not just being okay, you were put on your resume mini in fifth grade. Like, no, you got to keep it going. Like, this is these are the things that >> you can continue doing past gardener manner. So, we'll start small and build up. >> Keep building those bridges. >> Um, we're also going to within Gardener Manor keep developing our student leader uh our students leadership opportunities. Um, something we're really excited about is adding our fourth grade uh cohort to um our already existing fifth grade. So, we have

our fourth graders starting to train and and get ready to to be full-fledged mini marauder uh members. um with our mini uh marauders current, they're going to be mentors. So, we trained them how to be a mentor and what that means and gave them some tools and strategies to use so that now they can mentor our fourth graders. And then in fifth grade when they transition from fourth to fifth, they'll be ready to continue on in the mini marauders. Um and then as always, continue to strengthen our school community through kindness initiatives. Upcoming we have our autism we have autism awareness month which oh autism awareness month which um we'll be doing something very special um and then we have it's um and um we also have officers now in uh mini marauders. So we

have like uh secretary and we have captains and co- captains which also gives our many marers additional leadership opportunities within many marauders. >> That's it. So thank you so much for listening and hopefully when we I don't know maybe we'll be on the news. I don't know. You'll see it. We'll come back. >> But thank you so much. Thank you for your time. >> I I I'll tell you, if there was a golden buzzer for this, I'd be going it'd be going down right now. >> Well, I envy >> the comment I want to make, Mr. Navaro had said, you know, with a snap of your fingers, they were ready to go. >> And the thing is, I'm I'm pretty sure it wasn't just a snap of the fingers. Um, while it you're making it

look really easy, I can see the time and energy that went into this across both schools and starting with you guys and Honestly, on behalf of the board and like thank you for your time and commitment to not only the school but the community like we really appreciate it. It means so much and I see the energy and um it's really this is great stuff and this is what you know it does spiral. I'm like listening to it I'm like oh my god that's so exciting. That's so exciting. It's it's just great. So thank you both schools for the time and energy you've put into this and certainly your creativity with these activities. It's really exciting. Isn't this great stuff? Yeah. >> Speechless. >> Did anybody not get to say anything that they wanted to

say? >> Anybody? >> I had a I had a feeling. >> I had a feeling. Go ahead. Tell me. >> You could say whatever you like. >> Go ahead. Thank you for having us to come to the like Bash High School school to how to explain how we became kindness keepers. >> Thank you. >> Fabulous. All right. No. All right. We're gonna go on. You're more than welcome to stay. Um or you could get some ice cream or something. I don't know. So, it's up to you or your parents. That's where I'd be going. >> Started the problem. >> Thank you so much. >> Thank you guys. Great job. >> Thank you. >> Amazing. Take pictures. Come this way. We're going to take pictures now. >> Come this way. Come this way. Come this way.

We'll go take pictures. I'm sorry. >> Thank you so much. I know I know a lot of them. >> It's amazing. You know what? They should say something about the parents. This doesn't stop here. You keep this going. It's contagious. >> Mr. Leech has got to follow that. >> I know. Good luck with good luck with that. >> All right, next up, I hope you have some dancing, you know, animals or something here. >> Yeah, we can skip you. Uh, Mr. Leech, come on up for the steam night celebration. >> We should know better to bring some friends. I don't know. >> You know, next time next time you go after Mr. Pashker. >> Exactly. >> Some some snakes you could bring. you know, right? >> No, that was that was amazing. Um, hi. Thank

you for for having me. I'm really happy to be here tonight to share with you a little bit about our Steam night that just happened uh this past Thursday at Beayore Middle School from 5:00 to 7:30. Um, it's a community event where our our community members and our students are provided opportunities to engage with steam related activities in meaningful, authentic, and fun ways. And it's kind of a create your own adventure. So, if you walk into Beayore Middle School, um I have a map just to give you an idea of the layout. We took over the 600 and 700 hallway as well as the two cafeterias and the two gymnasiums. And the idea is just go to whatever draws you in. There's no uh flow. There's no time commitments. Um each of these rooms is

designed to take about 5 to seven minutes to be in. Um it's overseen by a teacher who then uh has a team of student volunteers from both the high school and the middle school. And um they are the ones the student volunteers are the ones who really are doing all of the work. They are the ones interfacing with our young scientists, our K to5 target demographic and bringing the uh the stations to life. Um so again it's a really just free flowing event and we had 22 different activities. Um we had the cafeteria, a couple of comm community partners. So, to give you an idea of the activities that our community members were able to partake in, I'm just going to tell you what was in each hallway um and then show a couple of

highlight pictures. So, in the 600 hallway, we had create your own cloud dough, which is very similar to Play-Doh, but it uses cornstarch and uh hair conditioner. Um, we had dry ice and liquid nitrogen demonstrations, a spy lab, which was uh learning how to use invisible ink and develop that a little chemistry act chemistry reaction um and uh using night vision goggles uh deciphering uh secret messages with cipher wheels. Um, we had our fingerprint detectives where students were able to analyze their own fingerprints. Uh, and see our high school students, our high school forensic students demonstrate how to lift fingerprints from everyday objects. Um, we had the Beayer Brighters Rescue ambulance. I'll show you a picture of them in the hallway, but they had an ambulance out there where students were able to go. I

didn't go and see it, but I heard them because the students were on the intercom on the loud horn. Hi, Mom. Hi, Dad. It was so cute. I was in the classes listening to that. Um, we had the Suffach County uh K9 section there with two of their uh partners. Um, we had Scar and Axe were the two dogs who came with their handlers. It was really great for the uh students to learn about all the training and hard work that goes into fostering that relationship. Um, we have the hovercraft hovercraft design station which was using balloon powered air to float a CD and have it glide across the table. And then we had our science Olympiad winner bring his hovercraft that he created and went to competition with uh recently. And then a boat

challenge where they were provided a piece of aluminum foil and they would craft a boat and see how many marbles they could hold. Um so just a couple of highlight pictures. The top left is some students who are decorating their hovercrafts. The top middle is our liquid nitrogen demonstration room. Uh freezing flowers and um you know freezing balloons, mini marshmallows, really fun stuff. The top right are some students who are analyzing their own fingerprints. The bottom left picture is of the Suffach County canine section. Uh the bottom middle is our dry ice. And what's fun about those bubbles is when you pop them, little condensation comes out. Little smoke bubbles come out. Uh and then the bottom right picture was the Vayore Brightwaters Rescue Ambulance. Um they had set up in the hallway um some

CPR and first aid demonstrations and then families were invited to go outside to the ambulance. So, lots of really fun stuff happening in the 600 hallway. In the 700 hallway, we had our Quag Wildlife Refuge um animal uh encounters where students got to meet a Paul a ball python, a box turtle, I believe it was, and a bearded dragon lizard. Um had a line the entire night. Always a fun draw. >> No, you couldn't. Okay, >> I skipped that one. uh fossil discovery uh which uh Miss Jacqueline Morales actually had that idea to uh bring in fossils which are always a really fun thing for students to take a look at. Uh they were given air dry clay and they were able to take dinosaur toys and put footprints to create their own trace fossil

trace fossils that they could then bring home and keep. We had paper airplanes in the flight zone. Our augmented reality sandbox. Northwell Health came with their um lab department from Southshore University Hospital. They were looking at blood smears underneath the microscope and learning how uh you know the story that your blood tells in relation to your health and then sensory science using your sight uh your sense of smell uh touch and hearing to identify mystery objects. Um and so we had some pictures the top two are our Northwell Lab department um ambassadors showing the microscope and some pictures that they took on their higher powered microscopes. The top right is the augmented reality sandbox where the students will sculpt and manipulate the sand and then uh in real time a projector projects down on top

of it a topographic map. They can simulate rain to see how the rain will fall down the sides of the um the mountains uh and even pool up and if you create a little hole then you'll see it drain out. Um so that's really great. The bottom left is Miss Grimmo with our students taking a look at some fossils. And then she had a great idea to create these little collector cards, uh, which are in the middle there, kind of like a baseball card that students were able to take home and learn more about, uh, these fossils that they looked like looked at. >> And then we had the paper airplane station in the bottom right. Lots of airplanes flying through the air. The kids had a blast. Even just learning how a little tweak

would allow for uh, you know, the the airplane to take a different flight path. Um, in the large gym, we had pom- pom cannons created by our high school principal of engineering students. They were highly uh impressive. And I'll show you a picture of that momentarily. Our mechanical marauders robotics team with one of their competition robots. And then drones. Drones is always a really big draw. It's super fun to fly them, try to get them through the hoop. Um, it was absolutely amazing to watch that. The picture in the top middle is the air cannon, uh, the pom pom cannon. And I have to tell you, these students created prototypes. They designed everything. Even the pink handle and the pink and yellow handle that the students hold on to. They designed 3D printed put all

of the electronics for the um the the button that they had to press to fire the cannon. Um they thought of all of this uh and it was a huge hit. Students loved it. They got to see how the launch velocity, launch angle affected the flight path of a a projectile. Um, and then on the bottom left is their competition robot um, shooting balls into the game piece, the target that they had to uh, try to get as many balls into. In the small gym, we had Star Lab. Uh, there's a series of small short films that we found called the One Sky Project, which is a bunch of planetariums that came together and um, the idea is that we all live under one sky, but different cultures look at that sky through different lenses.

And so the film that we showed was on Hawaiian wayfinders and how they use the stars to navigate the waters around Hawaii. Uh it was a very immersive, very fun and educational um and visually stimulating. It's a really great uh tool to be able to show that in our planetarium. In the large cafeteria, we had our code and create which is a variety of different um activities as well as our laser engraver in the hallway where students were able to walk away with a personalized keepsake. That's the top left. We even set up a Smartboard with a camera so that they were able to watch the laser engraver engraving their their um their name or whatever they chose to put on it. In the large cafeteria, there were so many things for the students to

do. I've heard that there were it was a hard time for parents to get their kids out because they had fizz, they had symmetry art, bracelets, all of our robots, the Sparro, BBOT, Indie, and Dash. Um they had Osmo, which are the iPads. They had brain flakes, ka planks, Legos, uh, magnet maze. So, there were so many things that they did um that our K2 steam teachers put together. They did a phenomenal job and it was really hard for parents to get their kids out of there. Um, in the small cafeteria, two staples, make your own slime and liquid nitrogen ice cream. It's a dangerous room to stay in for too long because you just keep eating the ice cream. Um, but our high school chemistry students were the ones that were mixing that up

for everybody. Uh the the create your own slime um is just you can see they're they're mixing up their blue slime. I saw lots of kids walking with colors all over their hands and no surprise where that came from. It was slime. Um so really really fun stuff over there. Uh so as an overview for the night, we had 22 different events and activities that students were able to participate in. Um we had in the cafeteria all of the activities that I just listed before. So 20 22 events plus the cafeteria, 19 teachers helped to bring this to life. They were instrumental in everything from planning, meeting with the students, organizing and preparing the supplies. Um and then when they met with our students, we had 111 student volunteers between the high school and the

middle school that really helped to facilitate and run the entire night. And it would have been impossible to do this without them. um our four community partners uh the Basher Brightwaters ambulance uh rescue ambulance um Northwell Health's Lab Department, the Suffach County K9 unit and Quag Wildlife Refuge. Um and then our final tally for the night was 1,031 participants uh who came from the community. Now when we did this three years ago, we did it at Gardener Manor. We anticipated there were about 400 people. We moved it to the uh Beashore Middle School last year and had about 7 to 750. I forgot what that number is. Um and then this year we're at 131. So it seems like every year it continues to grow and it wouldn't be possible without we're at the movie

credits at this point where it's just a list of names because the truth of the matter is there's no way that we could do this without the support of everyone. And so, first and foremost, thank you to the board for all of your support and uh allowing us to bring years ago the the steam program to our K2 buildings and for always supporting um you know, community events. To district administration for all of their support, helping us to find the funding for this. To the middle school building administration, Mr. McDougall and everybody on the team for helping us with the logistics and planning the night. They were involved in the process from the very beginning. They were there throughout the night supporting us. um buildings and grounds for all of the the transportation for our

supplies from the K2 buildings from gardener matter from the high school to the middle school and then back again the high school uh the sorry middle school custodial team who are ninjas at what they do. It was amazing. By the time I turned around the entire uh all of our spaces were ready to go and it made it that much easier for us to be able to uh move forward with planning and setting up the night. um our security team for all their support. Miss Herrick and Miss Rock in OIS for helping us to secure the grant funding and for helping us to uh order all of the supplies which was a behemoth task. Uh Miss Campa for all of her uh help in securing the supplies and the logistics logistical planning. We had a

steam committee uh everyone's name is listed there. They met numerous times in the months leading up to um uh Steam night and allowed us to um bring to bring this to life for everybody. Miss Ponte, Miss Nukeower, Miss McN, our K2 steam teachers who helped in the technology showcase with all of those things in the cafeteria. Miss Cox, Miss Melendez, Miss Sabatino who brought the drones over from Gardener Manor. Uh and then we Miss McCarti for the technology and logistics and all of our science teachers, Miss Coler, Miss Eglund, Miss High Totower, Miss Ferrante, Miss Clow, Miss Need, Miss Chico, Miss Pagan, Miss Greo, Mr. Tom Fory, Mr. Claybourne, and Mr. Malikica. Um because again, without their leadership in helping to facilitate and and um have our student volunteers take the leadership roles that they

did, we wouldn't have been able to do this without them. and of course our our uh community partners, Bishop Brightwaters Rescue Ambulance, Suffet County K9 unit, Northwell Health's Lab Department and Quag Wildlife Refuge. But I thank you again for all the support and I look forward to um Steam Knight in the future to see where it goes and uh you know see what great uh interactions and steam related activities we can bring to our students and families. So thank you. >> I'm sorry I missed it. I have to say I think I talked to you at like 5:45 and you were like I don't know are we going to beat 700? And I mean you well this this is like the most amazing night. Well maybe not the most amazing night. Graduation is pretty cool

but um it's I it's amazing what you guys pull off and how well you do it. And what I love the most about it is seeing like K through 12 in in it together. And like that's really what Basher is all about and and and learning and having fun. And it's just it's such an and it was so nice to see all the administrators working together and it's it's amazing. >> Good job. >> Thank you. It was a team effort for sure. >> It's just uh I'd like to just thank Kevin. You know, putting this together is like putting it's like a wedding and a carnival at the same time and and as you can imagine leading up to it, he's trying to navigate a lot of moving parts and um obviously there's a tremendous

team working with him. Uh, but again, I just want to thank Kevin, all of the staff, all of the people who were helpful in securing the the the items. It it's quickly becoming the night not to miss. >> Yeah. >> And you can kind of feel the energy and it's great because of the hands-on nature of it and the fact that it's trying to train our kids to become future scientists, engineers, creators. Uh, I think it's a fantastic thing that we want to keep going. So again, thank you to Kevin, the entire staff, and everybody was involved. >> Thank you. >> All right. Those are two tough things to follow. Moren, >> sorry. >> I'm gonna have Liam present the budget next time. >> Was he cute as a button? >> He was cute as

a button. >> Adorable. My goodness. Okay. So, I think we need to reverse the order of this next year. We go first. >> I was thinking >> followed by the children's. We end, >> you know, with the family. >> The budget's just as exciting, especially when we're talking about staffing and human resources. So, um just for your consideration, this is the same as what we have on the slide up here. Um, we wanted to just bring to uh the board's attention just a reminder of our faculty and staff that will be uh moving forward with their own career uh in terms of vacating positions whether they're retiring or moving on to another experience. Uh we have four administrators that will be retiring at the end of this school year as well as 15 teachers that

are retiring or moving on to a different experience. Um as we're taking a look at staffing, we're looking at our numbers. We're looking at uh student enrollment. We're looking at all of our district programs and additional registrations. Once we have a a strong sense on where we are in terms of student student enrollment and programs that we are moving forward with the district, we will make determinations about the retirees that you see listed on the page and whether we're going to move forward with replacing those retirees in the positions that they are listed andor migrating those positions over to other assignments um whether through transfers, through requests or expansion of student programs. So, um, at this time we're we're sharing with you that these are the staff members that will be moving, uh, moving on

and we'll be taking a look at all of this information and using that to make determinations about staffing for the 26th 27th school year. If we specifically when taking a look at special education to uh ENL and other expanding programs that we have here in Beayshore, if we find that we are unable to uh meet the needs of our programs with the retiring staff members that we have or transfers that we are are honoring, we have a number of uh faculty and staff that are interested in transferring into a different tenure area, a different building, a different experience. So once we've taken a look at our staffing, our enrollment, our programs, if we need to come back to the board and request any additional positions specifically in the programs that I mentioned, we we will

definitely come forward an additional meeting to discuss those with you. Okay. >> Hopefully not. Okay. So this is the this is the big one, but I don't really have a lot to say today, even though uh I'll skip right to the end. So, if you remember at the end of budget presentation four, uh I told you I had exactly $2 million left that and anticipated uh revenues for next year that I could distribute. And I can now show you where 100% of it went. Um on the list of professional salaries, $1 million went to special education teachers. And on the list of non-certificated employees, $1 million went to special education Paris, the whole thing. Okay. Uh so, as Christina said, we are going to work really hard to limit uh the hires or or the

rehires um due to retirements. We did look quickly, if you remember, during budget presentation number four, at sections and class sizes at the elementary level. And I remember I said that you had some room there. Uh I will be going over those numbers again. Here's a funny story. So I asked them all in the K2 buildings to tell me where their kids are going. Three, three, five. Well, from second grade into third grade, which building are they going into because they need to know that information. I need to know how many. They need to figure that out. So they call transportation and they ask Cheryl and Cheryl calls me and she's like well you got to figure out how many kids are going from second grade into third grade and where they're going and I

was like oh my god all right that's full circle Marine. So yeah so at some point I have to sit down and actually see if I can figure that out myself for myself for my own purposes. So I will definitely tighten up those numbers. Uh and we will look at at the next presentation we'll look at um distribution of sections at the elementary level again and we'll see how many uh positions we can uh potentially uh reallocate at that level and then cope has to work her magic on the board um and see if and see who we can shuffle around. But we're done. We are we are balanced. Here's your summary sheet. So this these codes we have uh 51.7% of the budget right just in salary. So that's why when we tell you

that salaries and benefits are about 70 to 75% of the budget about a little over 50% is uh just salaries. All right. So, unless you have any questions, that was pretty straightforward this year. >> Anybody? All right. >> Is is the idea that we're going to have have the same number of sections? I know you need to know what school they're in, right? But, um, is is that the working thesis? Um I think no the idea is I will try to pull some sections down and then where we have extra teachers she'll try to redistribute with people who have dual certification >> because where the the need is going to be in special ed again. >> Yeah. >> It's just where the need is. >> So we just keep reallocating resources to the best of

our ability. >> Yeah. >> Okay. It's good. >> Okay. Uh facilities policy I don't have a page on that, but I think you guys have it. I think it was in your packet. So, the only thing that I changed, remember we had a a little um actually it was a really good substantive comment at the end of the last work session on section four prohibitive prohibited naming. Um, I pulled out elected public officials uh out of the list of prohibitions in the uh first sentence and I added a second uh or I added another sentence at the end of the paragraph. Uh so I have additionally no school district facility, building or portion thereof shall be named in honor of any individual currently serving as an elected public official. However, this provision shall not be

construed to prohibit the naming of a facility in honor of a current or former member of the board of education based upon distinguished service to the district. So hopefully that kind of covers it unless you want me to work on the wording there a little bit. But I thought that that was pretty clear >> and that was the only change between the last meeting and tonight. >> Okay. That's it. >> Right. >> Okay. Can I have a motion to go out of work session? >> Motion. >> Second. >> All in favor? I. So carried. And does anybody need a second? >> Okay. I will take a motion to go into public session. >> Motion. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> I. So carry. >> We get stand for the pledge. Start it. I pledge

allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Okay. Well, we always like to start the meeting with something positive. So, tonight we have the opportunity to recognize um somebody for a tremendous act. And I'm not surprised in the least that it it's somebody I know and I know would step up when needed to and has just proven that she's capable of doing that. Who's going to explain what happened? Uh >> Miss Gluchi. Yes. >> Everyone's like, "What is she talking about?" Miss How are you? >> Good. How are you? >> Good. Thank you. Good evening, everyone. My name is Marielle Galuchcci. I'm the assistant principal at Behore Middle School and I am here

to recognize a heroic act uh by one of our security officers, Miss Meredith Wen. If I may, >> on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 27th, a lunch period at Beayshore Middle School was suddenly interrupted. A moment that would call for courage, instinct, and unwaver resolve, came about. In the cafeteria, students stood near a garbage can, clearly in distress. In that critical instant, when seconds mattered most, Miss Meredith went, a vigilant and dedicated security guard, recognized the gravity of the situation before others could fully comprehend it. Without hesitation, she sprang into action with calm precision and determination. Miss went interveneed, positioning herself to administer the Heimlick maneuver. Her movement was were swift, guided by both instinct and preparation. When she when the obstruction did not immediately clear, she persisted and began began firmly patting the students

back. Then relief. The obstruction was dislodged. Thank you. What could have escalated into a terrible emergency was turned into a moment of triumph through Miss Went's decisive action. In a moment where fear could have taken hold, Miss Went, who chose action in a situation where time mattered most. She became the difference. Her bravery, quick thinking, and commitment to student safety did more than resolve a crisis. They reminded our entire school community of the quiet heroes who walk among us each day. Thank you so much for all that you do. >> Thank you. >> We'd like to recognize you and take a photo. It's really tremendous um to be able to act that quickly >> and just know what to do and not panic. >> But I'm not surprised. >> Thank you. >> We're very lucky.

>> Yes, very truly are. Thank you. It's my pleasure. I know I'm false. Thank you. >> That's my neighbor. >> What did your kids think of that? >> Oh, they're so excited. This is awesome. I have the other certificate from the middle school on my frame. >> They should be very proud. very excited now works in the bank with my daughter. >> Have a good time. I'm sure she appreciates that. >> She does. She does. >> Those kids that I'm here with them. >> Enjoy this when I did it. My son was in the cafeteria. So, >> wow. >> He was proud. He was like, "That's my mom. >> There you go. >> Thank you very much. I have a good night. Um, you look, I'm sorry, I just want to interrupt. The the idea

that we had presentations tonight and now this of that just shows what a strong community we have. It just really dynamic and uh spells out what Basher is all about. So, thank you. >> All right. Again, how do you follow anything? >> I feel like we should just wrap up and go home right now. I'm going to just do one of each. >> I'm I'm working. We're going. We're going. This is fast. Okay. We're going to get right to business. Um have a good time tonight. >> Thank you. >> Enjoy. >> Um can I get a motion to approve A1 board of education minutes of the executive work and public sessions of February 25th, 2026 and executive and work session minutes of March 10th, 2026.
