001She good. Okay. Can I get a motion to go into work session? >> Motion. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> I. So carried. So today is a really exciting day. Um I love when people come out. We always have crowds for celebrations and when the little kids are presenting. So, I don't know that we've had a room this full and we're really excited um to celebrate the people that are here tonight. So, I'll turn it right over to Mrs. Cop. >> Thank you. Good evening everyone. And for those sitting in the back, there are seats that are available. I know we're in school, people like to sit all the way in the back row, but this is a great celebration. So, please come forward. There are available seats. And if not, we do have
002some chairs coming in. So this evening we are very very excited to honor a number of educators this evening that are going to be receiving tenure. So one of our goals for the Basher School District in human resources is to recruit, develop, mentor and retain highly qualified personnel to support the social, emotional and academic growth of our students. When people ask what is tenure, oftentimes people think tenure is the word 10 followed by the word year. They don't recognize that tenure is not tenure. So tenure is not something that you receive as an educator after working for 10 years. It's a tremendous milestone in an educator's career. It's awarded after a period of three or four years after consistent hard work, dedication, professionalism, collaboration, planning, evaluation, and reflection. It's the infusion of one one's own
003teaching philosophy with the district's vision and mission for the success of Basher's children consistently delivered to each of our students over a period of time. It's an accomplishment that is not easily met and is worth celebrating tonight with each of our colleagues, friends, families, colleagues, the board of education, and the entire beayhore community. Its offering and accepting tenure is a renewed commitment between the educator and the district to continue to strengthen our collective practices as an educational community. This evening, the board would like to formally acknowledge the 54 educators who are here with us this evening receiving tenure with a framed certificate acknowledging this incredible milestone in their careers. Because it's going to be difficult for you to see the certificates, I wanted to share with you what it looks like. It says in the
004quote below the name the following quote, "Engineers make bridges. Artists make paintings, scientists make rockets, but teachers make them all. >> Okay. So, what we're going to do is we're going to >> Can I just interrupt? I'm sorry. Go back. Go back. There's actually what Mrs. Cope put one more over. What Mrs. Cop did not mention, there's actually 55 people receiving tenure this evening. So, Miss Miss Cop has been a dedicated member of the Basher community for 27 years. Over the course of more than two decades, he served as an English teacher, tenured instruction or supervisor, non-tenured. Um, assistant principal, I think three different buildings, non-tenured, English director, tenured, um, principal, non-tenured, and currently as the assistant of the superintendent for human resources. A few years ago, Miss Cop established the employee recognition practice to celebrate milestones such as tenure and retirement of board meetings. So, congratulations, Mr. scope on tenure for the third time. [Applause] >> The slides were hijacked. >> Yes. She did not know that. >> She created the presentation was like, "Wait a second." And about and about a half hour before we were going into executive session, Mrs. Copa actually wanted to see
006the slides again. He was like, "No, they're fine. You don't have to look down." So, we did want to sneak that in on her. >> Thank you. Thank you. Miss Cassidy Ljablad, who is an English teacher at the high school, and Yoi Vargas, who is a social worker at Gardener Manor. We'd like to wish them congratulations as well. >> She's here. >> Miss Carney is here. Miss Carney, >> come on up. Congratulations. There she is. >> Miss Carney began her career in the Basher School District in 2001 as a special education teacher at Gardener Manor School. She has since transferred to Brook Avenue School to teach second grade in this new tenure area in 2022. Her patience, positivity, passion,

And how about another round of applause for all of these incredible At this time, we would like to take a photo with all of our tenur individuals. Normally, we have everybody come up, but we have such
048a large group, we're going to invite all of our tenur uh staff to join us outside in front of the hall of fame to take a picture with the board of education and then we will be returning for the second >> board's going to return. >> The board is going to return for the second portion of that meeting. So, again, thank you so much for coming this evening. Many congratulations to all. >> Just before you before everybody leaves, just a special thank you to Miss Miss Cop for this outstanding presentation to recognize our amazing teachers and your teachers. I also want to thank all of the family members there. You can see that there's parents, there's children, there's looks like grandparents, parents. So, I want to thank you and all of our administrators that are
049uh showed up tonight as well to congratulate the tenure teachers. Congratulations. And I know Mrs. Cop, your family is here as well. And Mark has decided to send you another card for the outstanding job you did today. So that's two cards he will be sending you with our new stationery. So we want to thank you, Mr. Co, for that as well. So thank you. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Okay. All right. Camera's on. We're still in session. >> It is. He gave me a thumbs up. Um the only other thing on the agenda is the resolutions. Um the truth of the matter is there was very little. Stephen, myself, Lquita, Jen were at the meeting. Jen is on the executive board. So she had some insight. This was the first time that we finished the
050discussion before dinner. It was the fastest meeting. There was very few um you know back and forth with um there's not too many that are controversial. Um the things that were getting get supported people were supported. The ones that were not very few um a couple they were still going to um support. So I don't know if there was any questions if anybody had a chance to review them. Um, in the interest of time, we were just here for a lovely celebration. If anybody wants to look them over, email us as a group and we can review. But we're going to kind of follow on the voting is next week. I'm hoping fingers crossed everybody that it's goes as fast as it did for the other night and hopefully it will be a not a
0515 hour online meeting. Yeah, we're talking but that's okay. You're allowed to be in here. >> We're in meeting. My wife wanted to take a picture with God. >> Tell her one second. We're almost done. >> I'll be right out. >> Tell her not with me. Tell her to tell her I'm insulted. >> Um, so if there's anything that there was questions or Jen as we review them, if there's something we want to highlight to anybody, we'll shoot out messages. Is everybody good with that? >> Question. Yeah. >> The uh resolution to give you insight goes through all these things and then they decide what they're going to be neutral on or affirm or support. So, at the meeting, the Nassau Suffach meeting, and maybe Jen could could share, they review all of them. There's
052a resolutions in the executive committee. There's a resolutions committee. They'll review the resolutions, and they'll say these are the ones that we're going to um support or not support. Now, them supporting or not supporting it doesn't mean that we can't vote yes or no in support of it. It's just showing what there. And sometimes somebody will say at the meeting at the bigger meeting of everybody for National SuffK they might say well if you rewarded it it's not it's too specific it's not specific enough. So they often or they have known been known to amend it right in the in the place in the moment. It's these words that make a difference. It's this word. >> So they'll say why somebody might say why wasn't that approved. It's it makes it seems like it makes
053sense. And they'll explain that it's either too much local control. There's already stuff in place. There's already policy in place. So sometimes people want things to happen and that's really you can do that at the district level. There's no need for a resolution because then you're going to divide energies of what you're you're advocating for legislatively too. So if there's something we could do as a district on our own, they're like we can't support that because you can handle that and make policy or practice right in your own district to handle that. Right. a lot of them this year that that we decided as a legislative committee and as the executive committee of NASA SUFFK was because either it was already things down that are coming down the pipeline with the graduation requirement changes um
054and a lot of them dealt with curriculum which is a local control and a lot of them dealt with things that we felt were already available to people to to deal with amongst their districts and when I mean these basically go to New York State school board and that's how they prior prioritize how they lobby for our education system each year in Albany. So for them to have 35 different talking points doesn't make sense. It's better for them to have five or six important ones to get things actually done. So that's kind of how we look at it. And there were a lot this year that just they I call them no-brainers. Like it was something that we absolutely as a school district could do. So I love that because it gives me some ideas
055of what other districts are like looking to do. Um whether or not I need New York State to tell me to do that is is kind of where we that those >> sometimes we try to not want that. >> So hopefully it'll be a short >> resolutions committee. What DEI? What is it that the same thing? The DEI. >> No. So there so there's like so NASA suffic I'm sure other district other counties do it also but then officially there's a New York state resolution committee and then there's um the DEI which is you know um diversity equity and inclusion and they have different priorities because they're looking at those three. So you'll see that in in the paperwork that we got that sometimes they a lot of times they'll they won't touch things that
056have nothing to do with DEI. So, um, but it is a completely different committee. >> Okay. >> All right. Anybody have any questions or things to discuss? >> All right. Very good meeting. Nice job, Christina. >> Congratulations to you. >> It's always a nice night. >> Yeah. Right over there. >> Um, can I get a motion to go out of work? >> Motion. Second. >> All in favor? I. I. So carried. Have a great night. This is yours.
